- 0:17Speaker 1: couple of touchdown passes. And then Wednesday live edition of
- 0:20Speaker 1: the Men's Basketball Coaches Show, the only only live show
- 0:24Speaker 1: you'll get this year from coach Early as he and
- 0:27Speaker 1: Mike Crispino preview the twenty five to twenty six season,
- 0:30Speaker 1: which is coming on really close. And our first Geno
- 0:33Speaker 1: show is a week from Wednesday. That's also across the
- 0:36Speaker 1: street over at iHeartRadio. Mike Kavanaugh, who dined at at
- 0:39Speaker 1: Cafera last night, I did with a couple of recruits.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We can't, obviously just divulge who those guys are, but
- 0:45Speaker 1: it's gotta be fun to just go over there and
- 0:47Speaker 1: then what you're regular over there?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Right? And you and the missus, Yeah, well she didn't
- 0:52Speaker 2: come with me last night, but no, we do We
- 0:54Speaker 2: go over frequent there quite a bit. My daughter's a
- 0:57Speaker 2: hostess over there. So oh but no, I love the restaurant.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I think it's fantastic. So anybody in the area you're
- 1:05Speaker 2: looking for a good meal, head over to Cafe Ara.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and we'll do some genos, a lot of geno
- 1:10Speaker 1: shows from there.
- 1:10Speaker 2: After you go to Bears.
- 1:12Speaker 1: After you go to Bears for Bears is the appetizer
- 1:15Speaker 1: and cafe of course. There you go. H you mentioned
- 1:19Speaker 1: all these different leaders. How different are they from a
- 1:23Speaker 1: leadership standpoint? Are they kind of on the same page ones?
- 1:26Speaker 1: You know, you have various roles for each leader or
- 1:29Speaker 1: just how they how they roll and help you out
- 1:31Speaker 1: from a leadership standpoint.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's interesting. I think they they all lead
- 1:41Speaker 2: in different ways. And you I think the most important
- 1:46Speaker 2: thing as a coach is you can't be you can't
- 1:55Speaker 2: be opaque with your players. They have to know exactly
- 1:59Speaker 2: what their role is. And Tabor he slips a very
- 2:04Speaker 2: vocal leader. Joey Muldowney's more of a leader, lets his
- 2:09Speaker 2: play do the talking. Viking is he's a little bit
- 2:17Speaker 2: of both. You know, he doesn't say a whole lot,
- 2:20Speaker 2: but he lets his play, do the talking, and the
- 2:23Speaker 2: way he is on and off the ice is exemplary
- 2:29Speaker 2: for our players. And Ryan Taddle just wears his emotions
- 2:34Speaker 2: on his sleeve, which is also important. You need a
- 2:40Speaker 2: mix to have great leadership. You don't want four guys
- 2:44Speaker 2: that are very vocal or four guys that just lead
- 2:48Speaker 2: by example. You need a mix, and I think we
- 2:52Speaker 2: have a between the four guys that we have. I
- 2:56Speaker 2: think that's a really good, you know, leadership group that
- 3:01Speaker 2: we have going forward this season.
- 3:03Speaker 3: When you talk about Tabor being maybe the more vocal
- 3:06Speaker 3: of the four, did you expect that out of him?
- 3:10Speaker 3: Or in this role, has he maybe even been more
- 3:12Speaker 3: vocal than you might have been expected.
- 3:14Speaker 2: No, He's always been that, and that's the thing. You
- 3:16Speaker 2: have to be authentic with who you are. You can't
- 3:21Speaker 2: pretend to be someone that you're not. And that's the
- 3:23Speaker 2: thing I like about our guys. Tabor's always been very
- 3:28Speaker 2: vocal and demonstrative, and he brings a lot of energy
- 3:33Speaker 2: to practice. You know, Ryan Taddle brings energy to practice,
- 3:36Speaker 2: but it's more in a water bug or want to
- 3:40Speaker 2: beat you type of way every day, and in Viking
- 3:44Speaker 2: and Joey kind of just go about their business and
- 3:47Speaker 2: do things. They all do things the right way, it's
- 3:50Speaker 2: just how they lead as differently different.
- 3:54Speaker 1: You know, everybody's competitive, but some players like to take
- 3:58Speaker 1: it to another level, both on and off the playing field.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I am aware of that. Gino's players like that, and
- 4:04Speaker 1: some of them are in the Hall of Fame. Now,
- 4:06Speaker 1: what about your guys? Are they ultra competitive?
- 4:11Speaker 2: I hope so. I think anybody we're bringing into this program,
- 4:14Speaker 2: they better be ultra competitive. If they're not, you can't
- 4:18Speaker 2: compete in this league. Really, I equate Hockey East with
- 4:23Speaker 2: like SEC Football. When I look at SEC football, there's
- 4:26Speaker 2: five teams in the top ten, and Hockey East is
- 4:29Speaker 2: very similar. Between BC and BU and Providence and Maine
- 4:33Speaker 2: and ourselves and Lowell and New mass it's you don't
- 4:37Speaker 2: get a break, and that's okay. I think it's fun
- 4:40Speaker 2: playing in a league like that. You know, at the
- 4:43Speaker 2: times Gino and I have had these conversations. Listen, there's
- 4:48Speaker 2: games that he could not play his top two players
- 4:51Speaker 2: and they're still going to win the game. It happens. Yeah,
- 4:54Speaker 2: you know, that doesn't happen with our sport. And we've
- 4:59Speaker 2: talked quite a bit about it because I've said, geez,
- 5:01Speaker 2: I'd like a few games like that. He goes, I'd
- 5:02Speaker 2: kind of rather have more what you have where because
- 5:06Speaker 2: when you play South Carolina, when Gino plays South Carolina,
- 5:09Speaker 2: or he played Tennessee back in the day, or Notre Dame,
- 5:13Speaker 2: those are the games you get up for, and those
- 5:15Speaker 2: are the games he gets super charged for, and those
- 5:17Speaker 2: are the games you want to coach in. You know,
- 5:21Speaker 2: I haven't had as many as him, not even nearly.
- 5:25Speaker 2: It's close to as many, but there's been a few
- 5:27Speaker 2: games where you're up six nothing, or you're up seven
- 5:29Speaker 2: to one and he just rolling lines. It's not as
- 5:33Speaker 2: fun as when you're in the fight. So I'd like
- 5:37Speaker 2: to have a couple more, but a few like him.
- 5:40Speaker 1: The old Biggie is used to be like that. Yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 1: late two thousands, it was really good.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Yeah, right, looking at this past Saturday, Tray Scott did
- 5:51Speaker 3: not play in that game, and so just looking at
- 5:54Speaker 3: the roster there you've had basically a consistent group, with
- 5:58Speaker 3: the exception of Brendan Dunfey sat out one game. Houston
- 6:03Speaker 3: Cartman's filled in once for him once portray So bumps
- 6:07Speaker 3: and bruises, where where's all that.
- 6:09Speaker 2: We only have three extra players, so I've told the
- 6:13Speaker 2: team that they're all going to be counted on to
- 6:16Speaker 2: play at some point, and there's lots of ups and
- 6:21Speaker 2: downs throughout a season. I don't want our players to
- 6:24Speaker 2: ride the roller coaster. Just show up every day and
- 6:27Speaker 2: if your numbers called, then we expect you to go
- 6:30Speaker 2: out there and compete. And I'm really fortunate that I
- 6:33Speaker 2: have a team that does that, and when their numbers
- 6:37Speaker 2: not called, I'm even more fortunate that they act professionally
- 6:42Speaker 2: and all they care about is the team winning. Owen
- 6:46Speaker 2: Simpson hasn't played yet, but I'm telling you right now
- 6:49Speaker 2: he has as much respect as anybody on our team
- 6:53Speaker 2: right now, the way he conducts himself and comes to
- 6:56Speaker 2: compete every day in practice.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Freshman Cam Hendrickson made his debut on Saturday, and we
- 7:02Speaker 1: have a listener question asking about will you'll be sticking
- 7:04Speaker 1: with two goalie rotation or do you expect how to
- 7:07Speaker 1: handle most of the time and net this season or
- 7:11Speaker 1: is it way too early to even speculate that.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I think it's way too early to speculate that. You know,
- 7:18Speaker 2: Cam got his first start, and one of the things
- 7:20Speaker 2: I really like about Cam is he has the certitude
- 7:25Speaker 2: of a three year veteran. You know, he's got so
- 7:29Speaker 2: much confidence as a goaltender, which you need to have.
- 7:34Speaker 2: And you know, I thought he gave us a chance
- 7:37Speaker 2: to win on Saturday. He played pretty well on Saturday.
- 7:42Speaker 2: He gave us a chance to win. Now, Tyler, you know,
- 7:46Speaker 2: has certainly got a lot more experience and has played
- 7:50Speaker 2: really well this year. So going forward, we haven't decided.
- 7:54Speaker 2: We evaluate all week in practice and make a decision
- 7:59Speaker 2: on third. But it's a great, you know, problem to
- 8:04Speaker 2: have when you have two really good goaltenders and Ryan Sanborn,
- 8:07Speaker 2: who I didn't know admittedly, you didn't know a whole
- 8:11Speaker 2: lot about going into this season before Vince left. Vince said,
- 8:15Speaker 2: I really like Ryan Sandborne. I think would be a
- 8:17Speaker 2: good addition to our team. And he's been great. He's
- 8:21Speaker 2: really competed hard in practice. He's a kid that I've
- 8:26Speaker 2: been very surprised by. So he's done a nice job
- 8:28Speaker 2: for us as well.
- 8:29Speaker 3: All Right, we'll take a break.
- 8:30Speaker 1: A little later on. Jake Percival and Tristan Fraser will
- 8:32Speaker 1: join us on the Coaches Show. We're live at bear
- 8:34Speaker 1: Smoke House Barbecue. You cut hockey Coaches show here Onlearfield.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Stay with us,
