Transcript
- 0:11Hello Marvel fans, comic geeks, and all the nerds in between.
- 0:13My name is Megan with Vigilancy vibes where I talk about Marvel
- 0:16Comics, MCU, Marvel Studios, all that Marvel goodness.
- 0:19But sometimes I talk about other things and today I want to talk
- 0:23about something that's very important to me.
- 0:26That's very, very important. And I think we've all seen the
- 0:29argument go around this holiday season and I'm here to tell you
- 0:34the truth about it. The thing that bothers me is
- 0:38when people do not think Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
- 0:41Die Hard is a Christmas movie. I don't care what you say it is.
- 0:46I know a lot of people will say it can be any holiday, it can be
- 0:50anything. Any other day you can put it at
- 0:52a different holiday party and it would happen the exact same.
- 0:56But you're wrong and I'm here to tell you why.
- 0:59So before I get started, be sure to like and subscribe so you
- 1:02don't miss anything else I put out.
- 1:04So starting with this could have been any kind of holiday party.
- 1:10The movie happened because it was a Christmas party.
- 1:13So to say it's not integral to the movie would be very, very
- 1:16incorrect. Even like he comes into town
- 1:20because of it's Christmas, he's coming in on Christmas Eve, his
- 1:23daughter is there, he wants to see her for Christmas.
- 1:25He goes to his wife's work because it's a holiday party.
- 1:29It's a Christmas party. Like he doesn't just fly in on a
- 1:35whim. It's because it's a Christmas
- 1:37party. The robbery happens because it's
- 1:39a Christmas party and the ability to take hostages and the
- 1:42police would be less active because it's a it's Christmas
- 1:45Eve. To say this movie would have
- 1:47happened on any other day. I doubt he would fly in for an
- 1:50Easter party or a Halloween party.
- 1:52Like come on, that's just not true.
- 1:56And it's like even the movie opens up with Christmas themes,
- 1:59music. So it's like the soundtrack is
- 2:01even Christmas theme. And then you there's Christmas
- 2:05themes that like like a child waiting to be born, like
- 2:09Powell's wife or a hunt for a lone survivor, which is more
- 2:13religious theme. I'll give you that.
- 2:15But it's still there. But also adding to that
- 2:19Christmas religious theme, John's role is kind of like a
- 2:22Christ like Figure 1, who's put under trial by forces of evil in
- 2:26his attempts to redeem everyone. He's barefoot.
- 2:30He's cut with glass. These marks correspond to the
- 2:32marks on Christ during the crucifixion.
- 2:35You know, the hands, the feet. John also complaints often of a
- 2:39headache, the pain in his head like Christ's crown of thorns.
- 2:43I know that's a lot more religious than I meant to go,
- 2:46but I am telling you at all, I need you to know it is a
- 2:50Christmas movie. This whole story wouldn't have
- 2:53happened if it wasn't Christmas. And you can say, oh, it's just a
- 2:57a movie that plays around Christmas.
- 2:59This movie came out like in the spring, I think like, come on.
- 3:05And so do many, many bigger movies did that were Christmas
- 3:10themed movies. So that doesn't really have
- 3:12anything to do with anything. But let's be honest there.
- 3:17There's I think people who want to say it's not a Christmas
- 3:20movie. It's not.
- 3:20You can think what you like, but it is like the whole point of
- 3:25the movie is he travelled to see his family for Christmas.
- 3:29Many people will say he could travel to see his family for any
- 3:32reason. That's perfectly fine and true.
- 3:34But he didn't. He travelled for Christmas.
- 3:36He arrived on Christmas Eve to be there Christmas morning.
- 3:40He brings a giant stuffed animal with him for Christmas.
- 3:43A lot of people say this movie could have taken place any time
- 3:45of the year and it would be the exact same movie and that's just
- 3:47not true. But also I feel like if you have
- 3:51to change details to fit your narrative then you don't have an
- 3:54actual argument. Like I you could say that about
- 3:58so many movies and it still would not change the movie.
- 4:03Sure you could change it to happen around Easter.
- 4:05Then it would be an Easter movie instead of a Christmas movie.
- 4:09So yeah. Also, even if it wasn't about
- 4:14Christmas, there's a really big Christmas theme here.
- 4:17It isn't just a Christmas movie because it occurs on Christmas.
- 4:20It's also a Christmas movie because it has a social
- 4:23obligation with a family member that you didn't want to
- 4:25participate in, but spirals into this never ending nightmare that
- 4:30you just cannot get yourself out of because it is the holidays.
- 4:34This whole argument came up with a vengeance as it does every
- 4:37year, but this year it came up super hard because Macaulay
- 4:40Culkin said it is not a Christmas movie.
- 4:42And it's like he's not the king of Christmas.
- 4:45Why are we believing anything anyone says?
- 4:47I know Bruce Willis says it's not a Christmas movie, but the
- 4:50director says it's a Christmas movie.
- 4:52He said he didn't intend on it being a Christmas movie, but it
- 4:55actually is 1 now. So are we really going to say
- 4:59that we know more than the director of Die Hard?
- 5:04It's a Christmas movie. John Mcclane is a Christmas
- 5:07character now because of this movie.
- 5:10Well, not because of the other Die Hards, but this one in
- 5:12particular 100% is a Christmas movie.
- 5:15And if anyone disagrees, that is perfectly fine.
- 5:18I really don't care that much. I just wanted to, I guess,
- 5:21insert myself into this argument because I love to argue.
- 5:25So yeah, if you also love to argue about if Die Hard is a
- 5:27Christmas movie, just let me know in the comments so we can
- 5:31argue about it. But other than that, no hard
- 5:34feelings and I hope you all have a lovely holiday.
- 5:37With that being said, have a marvelous day.
