- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Everybody? Welcome into another edition of to check O Daily.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's Andrew Dichecko here from inside the Birds dot Com.
- 0:17Speaker 1: And the Eagles.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Monday morning, around seven thirty struck another trade with the
- 0:22Speaker 2: Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins trade edge rusher Jalen Phillips to
- 0:26Speaker 2: the Eagles in exchange for a twenty twenty six third
- 0:30Speaker 2: round pick, And for those wondering, that's the Eagles original
- 0:36Speaker 2: third round pick.
- 0:37Speaker 1: So Jalen Phillips.
- 0:39Speaker 2: He's played nine games this season, seven quarterback hits, three sacks,
- 0:47Speaker 2: and the big hiccup with him throughout his career and
- 0:51Speaker 2: even dating back to college at UCLA and Miami, has
- 0:54Speaker 2: been injuries. And in twenty twenty three he played for
- 0:57Speaker 2: VIC Vangio and he suffered an achille tear. But in
- 1:00Speaker 2: the eight games that he played for VIC Vangio, he
- 1:04Speaker 2: had six and a half sacks and twenty seven pressures,
- 1:07Speaker 2: remarkably productive. Has a good relationship with VIC, and now
- 1:11Speaker 2: he gives the Eagles a twenty six year old pass
- 1:13Speaker 2: rusher with upside six foot five, two sixty three.
- 1:18Speaker 1: He liked the size.
- 1:19Speaker 2: There and they finally have a headliner who can compliment
- 1:23Speaker 2: what the Eagles already have with jay loox Hunt, Noan Smith,
- 1:27Speaker 2: Brandon Graham who's joining the team shortly, josh ushe and
- 1:33Speaker 2: Patrick Johnson Let's not forget his Heizo jilaris on injury
- 1:36Speaker 2: reserve with a hamstring injury, so they have sort of
- 1:39Speaker 2: a crowded house there. But it's I think that they've
- 1:42Speaker 2: done a really good job of piecing it together where
- 1:46Speaker 2: a lot of the players who they've been really reliant on,
- 1:49Speaker 2: like a jay loox Hunt, can now slot into sort
- 1:52Speaker 2: of a reduced role, which I think is going to
- 1:55Speaker 2: help him from a production standpoint. Nolan Smith, the way
- 1:58Speaker 2: that he plays the game very physical. He's good at
- 2:01Speaker 2: setting the edge and at two hundred and forty five pounds,
- 2:04Speaker 2: as I mentioned, that lends itself to being nicked up.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Now he doesn't have to necessarily take on the Lion's
- 2:09Speaker 2: sheriff snaps when he returns. Josh Usha has been productive
- 2:13Speaker 2: and he can now flourish with even fewer snaps and
- 2:17Speaker 2: keep everyone fresh. And this rotation going moving forward, and
- 2:21Speaker 2: going back to my stance before the trade deadlineers this
- 2:26Speaker 2: was just my opinion, but I was of the belief
- 2:29Speaker 2: that edge rusher was the most crucial need for the
- 2:31Speaker 2: Philadelphia Eagles, and it had to be addressed because it
- 2:35Speaker 2: helps all levels of the defense, especially the secondary. But
- 2:40Speaker 2: they needed someone who could really headline this group, and
- 2:45Speaker 2: they found that in Jalen Phillips. There was a lot
- 2:49Speaker 2: of smoke hovering around the Eagles and the Miami Dolphins
- 2:52Speaker 2: and Jaylen Phillips and Bradley Chubb. It seemed that, you know,
- 2:57Speaker 2: Chubb would make some sense because he's played with Victor
- 3:00Speaker 2: with the Denver Broncos and the Dolphins. But Jalen Phillips
- 3:03Speaker 2: has more upside. So they're getting a player who has,
- 3:08Speaker 2: you know, twenty six career sacks, sixty one quarterback hits.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Injuries have been an issue.
- 3:14Speaker 2: He had the achilles in twenty twenty three, and he
- 3:16Speaker 2: had the acl in twenty twenty four, and that sort
- 3:20Speaker 2: of trends with what we taught, what we've seen from
- 3:24Speaker 2: him in college.
- 3:25Speaker 1: But I liked him a lot coming out of college.
- 3:26Speaker 2: He was drafted in the first round, I believe, eighteenth
- 3:29Speaker 2: overall in the twenty twenty one draft. And it's never
- 3:32Speaker 2: been about ability. It's been about availability with Jalen Phillips.
- 3:36Speaker 2: But he gives Eagles, a lengthy player. I think if
- 3:39Speaker 2: you look at what if there's one area of his
- 3:42Speaker 2: game that you'd like to see a little bit more refined,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and I think Vic Vangiol can get that out of him.
- 3:47Speaker 2: It's finishing. He's often around the quarterback. It's like it's
- 3:50Speaker 2: like a shark in the water when they see blood.
- 3:53Speaker 2: But he hasn't been able to finish this season. Getting
- 3:56Speaker 2: with Vic Vangil, getting with Jeremiah Washburn, who coaches the
- 4:00Speaker 2: outside linebackers, I think that that's going to help him
- 4:03Speaker 2: take his game to the next level. So yes, it
- 4:07Speaker 2: does count against the compensatory pick formula. That's a question
- 4:12Speaker 2: that I've gotten a lot since the trade was initiated.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So the Eagles, it may look like a steep price
- 4:20Speaker 2: a third round pick for a player who has an
- 4:22Speaker 2: expiring contract, his positioned to be a free agent after
- 4:26Speaker 2: the season, But this is the type of player that
- 4:28Speaker 2: I could see Howie Roseman assuming Jay when Phillips is
- 4:32Speaker 2: able to stay healthy.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And perform well.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Granted, that's a player that I could see them trying
- 4:38Speaker 2: to sign long term. He's young, as I mentioned, and
- 4:42Speaker 2: he can grow with jay loox Hunt and Nolan Smith
- 4:46Speaker 2: and he could maybe you know, maybe Josh Uche will
- 4:50Speaker 2: be around for another season or two.
- 4:52Speaker 1: We'll see what happens there.
- 4:54Speaker 2: But it gives them sort of a nucleus of pass
- 4:57Speaker 2: rushers that you can build upon, grow with, and maybe
- 5:01Speaker 2: precludes the Eagles from having to address that early in
- 5:04Speaker 2: the draft. I know we're getting far ahead of ourselves,
- 5:06Speaker 2: but when you look at the trade, I think if
- 5:08Speaker 2: you're looking at it, and maybe you're not especially high
- 5:12Speaker 2: on it, you're looking at the compensation and it is aggressive,
- 5:16Speaker 2: but that's the going rate for pass rushers. The Eagles
- 5:18Speaker 2: did what they had to do to really bolster this group.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 5:26Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there, But when it comes
- 5:29Speaker 3: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 5:34Speaker 3: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
- 5:38Speaker 3: with plenty of free parking. You'll be in and out fast,
- 5:41Speaker 3: no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care about convenience.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Camden Apothecary is all about the guest experience. Their staff
- 5:49Speaker 3: makes sure you feel taken care of every time you
- 5:53Speaker 3: walk in. Plus They carry only the best quality cannabis
- 5:56Speaker 3: at the fairest prices, so whether you're stocking up for
- 6:00Speaker 3: the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating a big win,
- 6:03Speaker 3: you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying. They
- 6:07Speaker 3: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 6:12Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros cammed in apothecary, top quality cannabis,
- 6:17Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 6:20Speaker 3: one and up.
- 6:22Speaker 2: You have to commend Howie Roseman for leaving no stone
- 6:27Speaker 2: unturned to boaster the roster, and they're not. He's not
- 6:32Speaker 2: afraid or averse to parting with the player, whether it's
- 6:36Speaker 2: a John Mechi that didn't work out, and you can
- 6:40Speaker 2: kind of look at, you know, the cornerback situation. We
- 6:43Speaker 2: don't know yet what we don't yet know about Jacory
- 6:47Speaker 2: and Bennett and how he's going to factor into the plans.
- 6:49Speaker 2: But that didn't stop Howie Roseman from addressing the room
- 6:52Speaker 2: and having two more dart throws strategically strategic dart throat
- 7:00Speaker 2: to try and give some optionality and flexibility. It also
- 7:05Speaker 2: makes it so the Eagles don't have to be overly
- 7:07Speaker 2: committed to either Kiley Ringo or Dorry Jackson. If they
- 7:12Speaker 2: don't pan out, you have now some flexibility to work
- 7:15Speaker 2: with and we'll see. I mean, you have to always
- 7:19Speaker 2: wait and allow trades to play out. You can always
- 7:22Speaker 2: have your initial thoughts and opinions on it, But until
- 7:25Speaker 2: we see any of the three on the field, there's
- 7:28Speaker 2: going to be reasons for optimism and there will be
- 7:30Speaker 2: reasons for skepticism. I think of the three players that
- 7:33Speaker 2: the Eagles acquired, I'm most skeptical of jay r Alexander,
- 7:38Speaker 2: most optimistic about Jalen Phillips.
- 7:41Speaker 1: He's a player that I really liked.
- 7:43Speaker 2: But until you see how he fits into the system,
- 7:45Speaker 2: until you see how they're able to allocate the snaps
- 7:48Speaker 2: and and what that all looks like, you know, there's
- 7:51Speaker 2: going to be questions and some deliberating about how the
- 7:56Speaker 2: puzzle piece WI ultimately fit into the grand equation here.
- 7:59Speaker 1: But I think the Eagles did what they had to
- 8:01Speaker 1: do to add.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Some key pieces on defense to really take it to
- 8:06Speaker 2: the next level. Now, three moves since last Wednesday, I
- 8:13Speaker 2: would have to think that Hollie Roseman's finished.
- 8:15Speaker 1: But if he's not, we'll be doing another podcast.
- 8:18Speaker 2: But I always want to remind everybody, not only did
- 8:20Speaker 2: they acquire defensive back Michael Carter last Wednesday, not only
- 8:24Speaker 2: did they trade for Jerry or Alexander late Saturday afternoon.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Not only did they trade for Jalen Phillips on Monday morning,
- 8:33Speaker 2: but they also have Brandon Graham returning. And eventually we'll see, how,
- 8:38Speaker 2: you know, if it's in the short term, it should be.
- 8:41Speaker 2: They'll have Jacoreyan Bennett, who had his twenty one day
- 8:44Speaker 2: practice when to open on October twenty second, and they'll
- 8:46Speaker 2: have Noan Smith, who hasn't had his practice when to
- 8:49Speaker 2: open yet but is widely expected to return in November.
- 8:53Speaker 2: So they have six I guess you can call it
- 8:57Speaker 2: reinforcements on the way to already uplift what they had
- 9:02Speaker 2: to uplift what they already have in a six and
- 9:04Speaker 2: two team that is trending in the right direction, seems
- 9:08Speaker 2: to be building some momentum. But I think that they
- 9:11Speaker 2: were able to punctuate this trade deadline with a big
- 9:14Speaker 2: splash and adding Jalen Phillips. And I'm curious to hear
- 9:18Speaker 2: what Vic Vanjo has to say about Jalen based on
- 9:21Speaker 2: their time in Miami. My understanding is that they had
- 9:23Speaker 2: a good relationship and he played well under Vic. But
- 9:27Speaker 2: I want to hear what he thinks about the fit
- 9:31Speaker 2: or basically what he really likes about the player when
- 9:36Speaker 2: we hear from Vic when the coordinators speak next. Also,
- 9:39Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to hearing what Jalen Phillips has to say.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Uh and Jayira Alexander and Michael Carter will hear from
- 9:45Speaker 2: them this week. So the Eagles, it could the bye.
- 9:49Speaker 2: We couldn't have gone better for the Philadelphia Eagles. They
- 9:52Speaker 2: had some some timely losses from NFC opponents. They added
- 9:56Speaker 2: three players at positions of need, and they're getting healthy
- 10:01Speaker 2: at the right time. So there's plenty of reason for
- 10:04Speaker 2: optimism surrounding this football team. But Howie Roseman should absolutely
- 10:08Speaker 2: be commended for being aggressive and making sure that he
- 10:12Speaker 2: wasn't resting on his laurels. That's never been his m
- 10:14Speaker 2: to be clear, but he sees the window of opportunity here.
- 10:18Speaker 2: He's very well aware of what the shortcomings are where
- 10:21Speaker 2: the Eagles are thin on the roster, if you will,
- 10:23Speaker 2: And that was edge rusher, that was corner and corner.
- 10:27Speaker 2: There's a number of names there. We'll have to see
- 10:30Speaker 2: how it all shakes out. Who emerges from that?
- 10:33Speaker 4: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm
- 10:36Speaker 4: not always in the mood to drink. And that's why
