- 0:19Hello, and welcome to episode 254 of the All Systems Go Sports
- 0:25Betting podcast powered by Rhythm.
- 0:28I'm your host Josh Applebaum. What's going on everyone?
- 0:37Happy Thirsty Thursday. Our work week rolls on almost
- 0:41over almost a big Friday coming up and then of course, a big
- 0:44weekend ahead. And we're going to get right
- 0:46back to it with Major League Baseball today, guys.
- 0:49And I tell you what, last night about as bad as it gets, man, I
- 0:53don't remember what's a golden sombrero O for four, what's O
- 0:56for five, Something even worse. But that's what happened last
- 0:59night, guys just could not catch a break O and 5 -, 5 units.
- 1:03And really, that was a test case of just baseball being cruel.
- 1:06Again, looking at the games we played, I would still play quite
- 1:09a few of them. I mean, I'll give you a perfect
- 1:11example here with some of them. You look at the the Cubbies
- 1:14there early in the day, got the Cubs at around -165.
- 1:18They closed at around -175 some closing line value.
- 1:22They get rolled 6 to 2 by the Texas Rangers.
- 1:25The Athletics, I bet them -120 we talked about them on the pod
- 1:28-125 they closed at -135 -, 140 CLV.
- 1:34They lose 2 to one, can't do anything offensively.
- 1:37Hurts even more that we had the over and of course the the first
- 1:41losing over. Finally went under at Sacramento
- 1:43Ballpark, but couldn't get any bats going there for the A's.
- 1:46And then the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta Braves bet them at
- 1:49around -135 they closed around -145 -, 150.
- 1:54They took the lead there late on a Austin Riley home run and then
- 1:57immediately gave up a bomb to Bryce Harper and then Trey
- 2:00Turner and couldn't get anything going in terms of a comeback.
- 2:03So the Braves lose 4 to 3. So Cubs, A's and Braves all CLV,
- 2:08all losses. Again, closing line value.
- 2:10You're going to have, you know, long term debates on Twitter and
- 2:13some people say it's meaningless.
- 2:15I think the truth about CLV is that it doesn't guarantee a win,
- 2:18but it does tell you you're betting better numbers and
- 2:20beating the market and reading the market correctly.
- 2:23So long term, if you have two betters who one better, you
- 2:27know, is always getting beat by the market, you know, betting a
- 2:30-, 165 and the team closes -150 and then another better who's
- 2:35beating the the market getting COV betting -150 and it closes
- 2:38-165 you know, any day single, you know, in day one day in
- 2:43particular, you know, the better without the COV Michael 3 and O
- 2:47the better with the CLV Michael O and three.
- 2:49But we're always playing the long game guys.
- 2:51If you can consistently get better numbers than what they
- 2:53close at long term, that better is going to be much more
- 2:56successful than I would argue the lucky betters here who
- 2:59again, just, you know, didn't have these sharp plays come
- 3:02through, which is always frustrating.
- 3:04So the other one that was frustrating to me was the Red
- 3:06Sox. They lose 2 to one another game
- 3:09there where a little bit of CLV, you know, Red Sox around -125
- 3:12closed around -130 but the Red Sox couldn't do anything in
- 3:16extra innings. They had a guy on 3rd with one
- 3:18out. Trevor Story strikes out.
- 3:20So it's tough. You know, Braves, Red Sox, A's,
- 3:24all these were one run losses. And then again, CLV and these
- 3:27plays didn't come through. So I think that to me is why
- 3:30baseball can be frustrating. Like we've been off to a pretty
- 3:33good start and MLB and then at the back of your head you're
- 3:36always like, oh, you know, whiskey and a revolver.
- 3:38That's what people joke about, how baseball can be so
- 3:40frustrating. It's a long season, so we're not
- 3:42going to try to overreact. Obviously, O and 5 -, 5 units is
- 3:46pathetic, embarrassing, disgusting, terrible, awful.
- 3:50You know, we can, we can harp on it, we can cry all day.
- 3:53We can go, you know, smash a glass window and take out our
- 3:55aggression. But that's not going to change
- 3:57the outcome. So we're just going to stick to
- 3:59it, keep grinding, not get too low after a bad night like that,
- 4:03and see if we can bounce back and post a winning day for
- 4:05today. So that's my little, my little,
- 4:07you know, Doctor Melfi's couch, Tony Soprano with panic attacks
- 4:12when you know, we're not catching a break and having a
- 4:14bad night again, it's it's, it's easy to say it's harder to do,
- 4:18but we just got to keep grinding and not let a bad night faze us
- 4:21too much. But with that being said, the
- 4:23beauty of betting is that you can go O and five and have a
- 4:25terrible night, but you still can wake up.
- 4:27The sun shines and you have an opportunity to bet on more games
- 4:30and hopefully have a winning day and claw your way back.
- 4:33So that being said, 3 plays today in Major League Baseball,
- 4:36we do have a smaller than usual slate with only six games
- 4:39overall, but I did find 3 of the later games here all offering
- 4:43some value. So a three pack.
- 4:45I got one favorite and I got 2 totals for you.
- 4:47Couple totals here, Hopefully we can get at least one of them.
- 4:50Well, that being said, let's strap up, strap in so we can
- 4:53bounce back after a horrific night last night.
- 4:56So first one on the board that I want to talk about.
- 4:58This is a 3:10 PM Eastern Time first pitch, the Milwaukee
- 5:02Brewers visiting the Colorado Rockies.
- 5:04So going into it, let's set the stage.
- 5:06Talk line movement and I'll give you my play for this one.
- 5:09Now the Brewers come in seven and five on the year.
- 5:11They've won the 1st 2 of this three-game series.
- 5:13They won the opener 7:00 to 1:00 as -165 Rd. favorites.
- 5:17They won again yesterday. Should have taken them, should
- 5:19have taken the over 17 to 2 as a -, 145 Rd. favorite.
- 5:24Almost a football score right there.
- 5:25You know, a couple scores and maybe it maybe a safety.
- 5:29But anyway, in this late afternoon series finale up in
- 5:31the Rockies, we have the Brewers starting Quinn Priester, who was
- 5:34making his 2025 debut. I'm aware of him because he was
- 5:37on the Red Sox and he just got traded to Milwaukee.
- 5:40Top prospect here. Hasn't really broken through in
- 5:43the majors yet, but the Brewers are down a lot of starting
- 5:46pitchers, so I think that's why they made that deal.
- 5:48Meanwhile, the Rockies 2 and 9, they're going to go with the
- 5:50fellow ready, Ryan Feltner, O&O 3.6 OERA.
- 5:53So what have you seen across the market here?
- 5:56Will this game open with Priester on the bump?
- 5:58Bit of an unknown here with Milwaukee, a very, very short
- 6:01favorite just around -110 across the board.
- 6:04And it's always notable to me when you have a guy making his
- 6:06debut, MLB debut, season debut, debut on a new team, you know,
- 6:11where's that initial move, especially when it's a very low
- 6:13number, You know, are the wise guys saying, hey, you know, we
- 6:16like this spot for this, this new guy because maybe he's going
- 6:19to surprise some people with the lack of familiarity with the
- 6:21opponents in the batter's box. Or, you know, do you want to
- 6:24fade this guy because maybe he's in a tough spot, maybe doesn't
- 6:27perform very well. Well, looks to me like sharps
- 6:30are saying let's ride Milwaukee and Quinn Priester in his debut
- 6:33because the Brewers after opening around -110 have now
- 6:36gotten steamed up to -120 -, 125, some shops even -130 so
- 6:41pretty clear steam move there in favor of Milwaukee.
- 6:45Now if you look at the bet split, Brewers only half the
- 6:48tickets at Circa, but nearly 2/3 of the money.
- 6:51So good low bets, higher dollars, bet split in their
- 6:53favor. We got a lot of system matches
- 6:55here on the Brew Crew. One system that I call kind of a
- 6:58value play is when you're a non division favorite -135 or less.
- 7:02Again, it kind of it's a short price here to lay, but this
- 7:05season it's 36 and 2955 percent, 1% ROI.
- 7:09Nothing crazy, but since 2019 this is a big sample size play.
- 7:13It's a grinder system, 1683 and 1339 with a 3% ROI.
- 7:20So it's been a pretty good system historically.
- 7:23Non division favorites with Steam $0.10 or more, 37 and 18
- 7:26this year, 67 percent, 13% ROI. We also have the road favorites
- 7:31with Steam who missed the playoffs the previous year.
- 7:33That's around 60% this season. So we got quite a few games or
- 7:37quite a few system matches that are lighting up here on
- 7:39Milwaukee. Now, the Brew Crew, I'm going to
- 7:41hope that their bats continue to to show up today at the Colorado
- 7:45big edge at the plate, they're hitting 246 on the air, 15
- 7:48homers, 66 runs scored. Colorado is only hitting 232
- 7:52with eight homers and 33 runs scored.
- 7:55I did notice and again, I didn't play it, but I got to admit it's
- 7:59always difficult to play an under at course field because,
- 8:02you know, the ball travels further because of the altitude.
- 8:04But it does look like sharps lean under 10 1/2 total open 10
- 8:081/2. It's really juiced under -115 -,
- 8:11120. And you do have some shops that
- 8:12are down to 10 DraftKings only 38% bets, but nearly half the
- 8:16money is on the under. And we do have the wind blowing
- 8:18in a little bit. Mid 60s, five to 10 mile per
- 8:21hour winds blowing in from from right center.
- 8:24We add it all up here, guys. We got Milwaukee rolling first
- 8:27two games of the series. And even though we got a new guy
- 8:30on the bump for the Brew Crew, got a sharp line move here on
- 8:33Milwaukee with a lot of system matches.
- 8:34So I'm going to back Quinn Priester, shop around.
- 8:37I got Milwaukee at -125 now couple totals for you.
- 8:42Let's go to another afternoon game here today, 4:10 PM Eastern
- 8:45Time, first pitch, the Blue Jays against the Red Sox after the
- 8:49Sox let me down last night, couldn't do anything
- 8:52offensively, which is frustrating.
- 8:54Anyway, we have the Blue Jays coming in eight and five.
- 8:56Blue Jays have taken the first three games of this four-game
- 8:59set. They've won six to two, six to
- 9:01one and two to one. Red Sox 6:00 and 7:00, again, a
- 9:05good start to the year. And now they are are at risk of
- 9:08being swept at home against the Blue Jays.
- 9:10So in terms of the side, you know, not a ton of movement.
- 9:13You know, Red Sox open, you know -115 -, 120, they are down to
- 9:17like -110 at some shops. So it looks like a little bit of
- 9:20money is actually maybe leaning here toward Toronto.
- 9:23Just saying, hey, maybe Sox are scuffling and just keep playing
- 9:25the Jays because they're hot. But I'm going to bypass Toronto
- 9:28and I'm going to play the under here.
- 9:30I like this game to the under. Hopefully we can get a, you
- 9:33know, an under to hit, but first thing I notice is the pitching
- 9:36match up now. We got Chris Bassett going for
- 9:39the Blue Jays. He's one and O 0.71 ERA.
- 9:42He's been really good to start the season.
- 9:44Walker Buehler has not been great one and one 8.68 ERA, so
- 9:48he struggled. He's also facing Toronto, who
- 9:51he's never really faced before. So maybe that's an advantage to
- 9:53Bueller and hopefully the under. Now, one thing I noticed about
- 9:56the total is that it looks really sharp toward the under.
- 10:00It open at 9:00, which is a relatively high total.
- 10:03We have seen that nine get juiced up. 9 under -120 not only
- 10:08that, but it actually fell to 8 1/2 at a few shops earlier today
- 10:11and came right, right back up to 9.
- 10:13But off the opener, it's been nothing but sharp under money.
- 10:16I got under 9 -, 120 at Caesar's and the two other angles I like
- 10:21for this under 1 is the weather. I can tell you, you know, I'm
- 10:25on, you know, the outskirts of Boston here, but it's kind of
- 10:27cold. It's like 45° and the wind is
- 10:30blowing in from mostly right center at 10 mph.
- 10:35So it's cold, it's a bit raw, the wind's blowing in.
- 10:38Typically that is a windy under system match.
- 10:40Wind blows 10 mph or more. We see that under cash and MLB
- 10:43upwards of like 55% historically.
- 10:46But then also I was digging in to both these teams in
- 10:48particular when it comes to totals and both are pretty good
- 10:51under teams. Toronto, believe it or not, is
- 10:5310 and three to the under this year.
- 10:55It's actually the number one under team in baseball.
- 10:58The Red Sox are 8 four and one to the under that's the 4th best
- 11:01in baseball. So we have a total at 9 really
- 11:04juice to the under. It even touched 8 1/2 at some
- 11:06shops. It's cold and the wind's blowing
- 11:08in. And we have a series where the
- 11:10under is, I believe 3 and O this series.
- 11:13And we have two teams that are really good to the under overall
- 11:16this year. So you can make a case for
- 11:18Toronto. Maybe you want to make a case
- 11:20for the Red Sox avoiding the sweep.
- 11:21I'm going to bypass the side, see if we can get a lower
- 11:24scoring game. I'd like the Sox to win for my
- 11:26over 85 1/2 win total, but I'll take any game that stays below 9
- 11:30runs, so give me the under 9. Red Sox and Jays under 9 -, 120
- 11:36last night of the night. Philly, Atlanta.
- 11:38Of course, Atlanta put them on the list of CLV plays that came
- 11:42up short by a run yesterday. But anyway, we have the final
- 11:47game of the series in the pitching matchup.
- 11:50Let's start with that. We have Jesus Lizardo, the lefty
- 11:53going for Philly. He's 2 and O 1.5 O ERA this
- 11:56year. He's been great and Spencer
- 11:58Schwellenbach the ready going for Atlanta.
- 12:01He's also been great one and O 0.00 ERA.
- 12:05So what are we seeing across the market?
- 12:07Well, I mentioned I'm on the I'm on the under or I didn't know
- 12:10know if I mentioned that yet, but I am.
- 12:11But anyway, in terms of the side, just so you know, it has
- 12:13dipped a little bit toward the toward Philly.
- 12:16You know, you had the Braves open at some shops -125 -, 130
- 12:21you're downwards of about -120 I see a -, 119 out there.
- 12:24So has moved a little bit toward the the fills in this spot.
- 12:28But the under is jumping out to me now.
- 12:30It opened at 8 immediately got that down here to to 7 1/2.
- 12:35And not only has it fall and a half run, but it's not like one
- 12:38of those, you know, falls where you fall down and then you get
- 12:40juiced to the over. Like it may rise back up.
- 12:43No 8 down to 7 1/2, and now 7 1/2 is under -120 some shops
- 12:48even -125 so it's fallen and it's still showing liability on
- 12:52a lower scoring game. So tells me we've got a lot of
- 12:55smart money coming in here. It's really just the under.
- 12:58It's fallen. We have DraftKings pretty good
- 13:00splits here. 49% bets, 67% dollars on the under.
- 13:04If you look at these two pitchers again, Lizardo's made
- 13:07two starts. He went 5 innings and gave up
- 13:10two runs against Washington. He went 7 innings and gave up no
- 13:13runs against the Dodgers the last time out.
- 13:15And that's a great lineup. And Schwellenbach has been great
- 13:18as well on his first start, 6 innings, no runs against the
- 13:22Padres. His second start, 8 innings, no
- 13:24runs against Miami. So we got 2 good pitchers on the
- 13:27bump. We have good sharp bet, split
- 13:30liability and movement under and two pretty good under teams.
- 13:34Not quite as good as Toronto and Boston, but Philly this year is
- 13:377 and four to the under. That's the fifth best under team
- 13:40in baseball. And the Braves are 6, four and
- 13:42one to the under. They're the 9th best under team
- 13:45in MLB. So can we get a four to
- 13:47three-game, 5 nothing game? Again, I don't care who wins
- 13:50this one, but see if we can maybe get an under, which would
- 13:53be nice between not the Phills and Atlanta.
- 13:56So Long story short, I'm rooting for another lower scoring game.
- 13:59Here I am on the under under 7 1/2 and I got that at -120 I
- 14:05believe it was either Caesars or FanDuel.
- 14:08So Atlanta, Philly under 7 1/2, Boston and Toronto under 9 and
- 14:12the Brew Crew. Can we find a way to maybe catch
- 14:15a break today and and go 2 and one that is the goal and try to
- 14:19claw our way back from the hole that we dug last night, which
- 14:22again, I can't get over. What a frustrating night.
- 14:25But hey, that's sports betting. It ain't easy.
- 14:26You got to have thick skin if you want to play this game.
- 14:29Anyway, that about does it for episode 254 of the ASG Pod
- 14:32Powered by Rhythm. This is the part of the pod, of
- 14:35course, where we wrap things up. I start first by saying thank
- 14:38you. Thank you for taking the time
- 14:39out of your day, out of your busy lives to pull up a chair to
- 14:42the virtual bar and sweat some sharp data-driven betting
- 14:44breakdowns with me means even more to me.
- 14:47Like it's easy when we're winning people TuneIn winners.
- 14:49Yeah, we're hot. But I almost, you know, love you
- 14:52guys and respect you more after a bad night because it means
- 14:54that you're you're in it for the long haul.
- 14:56You see the forest amongst the trees.
- 14:58Bad nights happen, but you value the insights.
- 15:00The insights are there. The closing line value was
- 15:02there. We kept these games pretty good.
- 15:04We just had a kind of a a no luck or unlucky night, which
- 15:09sometimes that's going to happen.
- 15:11But anyway, you guys, if you do enjoy the pod, if you want to
- 15:13let me know, let me know you appreciate the insights.
- 15:15Do me a solid give this podcast a five star review.
- 15:18If you're listening on Spotify or iTunes, If you want to leave
- 15:21a nice comment under the review section or click the follow
- 15:24button. That way you get alerted as soon
- 15:25as it drops each day. They'll be much appreciated as
- 15:28well. If you want to recommend the pod
- 15:30to A to a friend, a colleague, someone who might might might
- 15:34value or you know, respect or need the insights, maybe maybe
- 15:38the flat bedding approach, maybe something like that.
- 15:40But if you want to do that to word of mouth is always a great
- 15:42recommendation. Next, if you enjoy the style of
- 15:46betting breakdown. I know you didn't enjoy the
- 15:47results last night, neither did I, which is an understatement.
- 15:51But if you value the insights you want to learn more about
- 15:53data-driven betting, whether it's you letting me know you
- 15:56appreciate the pod or gifting some knowledge to a friend or
- 16:00colleague or coworker or family member, you know what you should
- 16:03do. You should go to Amazon.com and
- 16:04type in the Everything Guide to Sports betting.
- 16:07Pick up a copy for you or for a friend.
- 16:09It's got everything I've learned in the industry.
- 16:11It's my baby. First book I ever wrote.
- 16:13How lines are set, how and why they move, how to read line
- 16:16movement, how to locate sharp action, how to place a bet in
- 16:18person or online, how to shop for the best line, how to set up
- 16:21a bankroll management plan. It's all included in the
- 16:24everything Guide to sports betting.
- 16:26I also have a new book coming out, the NFL Sharp Betting
- 16:28Playbook. If you want to pre-order a copy
- 16:30on Amazon, I would very much appreciate that.
- 16:33And when you bring either the Everything guide or the NFL
- 16:36Sharp Betting Playbook to the sports book, I'll sign them both
- 16:39for you. I'll buy you a beer.
- 16:40I'll buy you a beer and a shot after last night and we'll sweat
- 16:43some games together at the book next.
- 16:46Have you downloaded Juice Reel or Rhythm yet?
- 16:48My two favorite sports betting apps.
- 16:50They help me win. They're going to help you win
- 16:52because they are all data-driven, no opinion, no
- 16:55bias. They help us to basically
- 16:57breakdown games with the cherry on top of, hey, you know, these
- 17:00are kind of sharp numbers and predictions.
- 17:03Let's look for discrepancies between what the betting market
- 17:05is offering and what the AI models are predicting.
- 17:07So Rhythm is great for their game bets and player prop models
- 17:12for pretty much all the sports. We have MLB live right now, NBA
- 17:15pretty soon we will have WNBA here coming up this summer.
- 17:20But then also Rhythm also a juice reel I should say, where
- 17:24you can follow the all systems go.
- 17:25Best bet plays for $4.99 a week. Again, it's a tip jar.
- 17:30Enjoy the pod. Let me know by by tipping your
- 17:32podcast host and signing up for those 499 plays.
- 17:35It would really mean a lot to me.
- 17:37Hopefully they'll get some good numbers and hopefully they'll
- 17:38come through, you know, beating the closing lines only half the
- 17:41battle. You can also get the robo
- 17:43Jackson best bet picks the sharp mush indicators, the arbitrage
- 17:46plays as well as shopping for the best line futures and
- 17:50betting breakdowns for bets and dollars on all spread money line
- 17:53in total for all the games based on people have synced up their
- 17:56sports books to the app. Next, if you're betting on
- 18:00sports, you got to have a live odds page.
- 18:02If you don't know what the what all the First off, what the
- 18:04games are the games that are going to be played today.
- 18:07You know what can I bet on? That's your first question and
- 18:10then you got to know what the line opened at, how it's moved,
- 18:13line history in between to kind of give you more insight into
- 18:16the matchup. You know, where is the point of
- 18:18buyback? Did it, you know, if the total
- 18:21stayed the same, did it really stay the same or did it go up
- 18:23and come back down? These are the things you got to
- 18:26know and then be able to shop for the best line and get the
- 18:28best price. So if you're looking for a live
- 18:29odds page, I would highly recommend Odds Logic.
- 18:33If you just go to oddslogic.com/josh 123, you will
- 18:37then get a 7 day free trial and 50% off your first month to give
- 18:41it a shot and I think you're going to enjoy it.
- 18:44Lastly, that about does it for today's pod.
- 18:47As always, you know, win, lose or draw, we're going to keep
- 18:50grinding here, but I will always tell you that I will see you at
- 18:54the sports book. Whether I see you at the Borgata
- 18:56in Atlantic City, Twin River in Rhode Island, the Brooklyn, New
- 18:59Hampshire, Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun down in Connecticut at the
- 19:02Encore in Boston, or Plain Ridge Park Casino or MGM Springfield
- 19:05in my neck of the woods in Massachusetts, or of course, the
- 19:08Nash. Or I'm sure I'll bump into you
- 19:10guys at some point. My new local book.
- 19:11I never thought I'd. I live 1515 minutes away from a
- 19:14sports book. That's pretty cool.
- 19:16Or of course, out in the desert where the true grinders get
- 19:18down, where Billy Walters sends his number runners with lowest
- 19:20juice possible is found at the South Point.
- 19:22Or sweat and sharp contrarian plays jumping in the stadium
- 19:25swimming pool. When you catch a big ticket at
- 19:27Circa, wherever it may be, you're going to walk up to me.
- 19:30And sadly, we got no winning tickets to show to each other.
- 19:33You're going to show me those five losers with COV losing by
- 19:36one run and we're just going to shake our heads and and if we're
- 19:39not going to cry, we're just going to laugh.
- 19:40We're going to recycle those tickets and get back into it
- 19:43today as always, O and 55 and O2 and three, three and two, four
- 19:48and one, one and four off a great night or a terrible night.
- 19:51We just continue to grind. Never get too high when we're
- 19:54winning, never get too low after a night like last night, we've
- 19:57got to stick to the model, stick to the blueprint and play the
- 20:00long term system. And you guys know by now that
- 20:03system is a data-driven approach where we can?
- 20:05Simultaneously back games with our head and not our heart,
- 20:08against the public, with the house, with the pros, flat bet,
- 20:11avoid parlays and ideally get that CLV.
- 20:14Even the last night it did us no good, but it's still a sign that
- 20:17hey, we're reading the market and doing our job.
- 20:19The players on the field are not doing theirs.
- 20:21So what are you going to do? Anyway guys, hope you guys have
- 20:25a great night and we'll see if we can get back at it tonight
- 20:28and hopefully get into the weekend here with a big Friday
- 20:31as well. I do want to let you know I will
- 20:33be on VSON Live tonight on SiriusXM with my buddies Patrick
- 20:37Maher and Dustin Sweetlson tonight at 8:00.
- 20:40So look forward to seeing you guys there.
- 20:42And I'll be right back at it tomorrow for a big Friday
- 20:44edition of the All Systems Go Sports Betting podcast powered
- 20:48by Rhythm. I'll see you guys tomorrow and
- 20:50good luck.
