- 1:55Speaker 2: I hope you've enjoyed watching.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Yeah, we're the stars, you're the birds, you're the boys.
- 2:17Speaker 2: We're here to have fun.
- 2:20Speaker 2: We're here to enjoy.
- 2:21Speaker 2: We're here to have fun, yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Yeah, wooo.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Welcome to another podcast of the Scotchy Bourbon Boys.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Yeah, we've got Supernash and Studio and we got Paul Letko.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Are you in Evanston right now?
- 3:00Speaker 3: Evanston in the home office Welcome, paul.
- 3:10Speaker 4: And we have Tiny.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Can't forget about me.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Right, Everything for few spirits, You've got a team, but as far as what you wear very many different hats, you know, correct?
- 3:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm the founder and distiller, but we really have a really fantastic team where we all can kind of rely on each other, so we all kind of do a little bit of everything.
- 3:41Speaker 5: At this point I'm kind of the face of the brand, but creative appearance, sales, marketing.
- 3:49Speaker 5: We've got some friends down in Louisville that take care of a lot of the stuff for us at this point, but it's pretty fun to be able to just focus in on making cool stuff, which is I like to make cool stuff.
- 4:06Speaker 3: And you got to give a shout out to Susan because she's the one that hooked us up, so that was really kind of cool.
- 4:10Speaker 3: From the Galena Whiskey Festival.
- 4:14Speaker 5: Susan's awesome, isn't she?
- 4:15Speaker 3: Oh yeah, she's wonderful, there's no doubt about it.
- 4:18Speaker 3: We have the fantastic year for you guys.
- 4:23Speaker 3: I mean, we were down there in March.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Now we're here at the end of the year and I think, with what you've been releasing and what we've been seeing, you, kind of from a creative Whiskey standpoint have been killing it.
- 4:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean we've been at it now for well over a decade and we've had some opportunities to kind of keep on learning and keep on improving and the whole team that's always the approach we've always taken is just get a little bit better every day.
- 4:54Speaker 5: And so I think at this point some of the Whiskey that we're putting out is just absolutely mind blowing Whiskey, and we keep on doing that creative thing where we're just going to push the edges and do stuff that we think is really cool and gets us excited, because you know I always talk about the Whiskey.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Business is tough because our competitors make really good stuff and so you got to make really good stuff and do stuff that is cool, even if it's just cool to you.
- 5:25Speaker 5: And that's where we focus, like do it on stuff that we think is going to be cool and it turns out a lot of other people think that it's cool too, which is yeah, more than it's, more than a few this time.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean there's, no, there's.
- 5:42Speaker 3: You can see the just I belong to a couple of Chicago Whiskey groups.
- 5:47Speaker 3: You can see some of the excitement that happens within the groups.
- 5:51Speaker 3: It's like you see few being mentioned more often and people searching for it and it's really kind of cool.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I think it's cool because you know, once we discovered, you know, once we came in and we're at your place and had such a good time and we're able to sample your spirits and see how you're going about it and what you're doing and the uniqueness of some of the stuff your attitude towards is that you're going to do you like to do what you want, what you like and what, like you said, and it's kind of cool, but you're not as far as when you put it out there, it's just what you're going to put out, and when you start to get more and more people excited about that, it's kind of cool to see that come.
- 6:47Speaker 3: You know you've been doing it for 10 years and now that's you're like cool guys on the corner.
- 6:54Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 6:55Speaker 3: And before and it's, I really enjoyed seeing like the little bit of the bump that you're getting.
- 7:04Speaker 3: And then the marketing aspect of the.
- 7:11Speaker 3: You know the collaboration with Allison Chains.
- 7:14Speaker 3: That particular bottle is good whiskey, there's no doubt about it.
- 7:20Speaker 3: And it's like you don't get the feeling that you know, a band just came in and did a whiskey.
- 7:26Speaker 3: I mean you get the feeling that the whole yes, it's marketing because it's a band, but there's quality whiskey behind it.
- 7:33Speaker 3: It's a finished, you know it's finished.
- 7:37Speaker 3: And then also just the name and your whole labeling.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Everything kind of comes together where you feel like it's just.
- 7:49Speaker 3: You know you see some celebrity whiskies where you feel like nothing was together.
- 7:53Speaker 3: It's all four parts.
- 7:55Speaker 3: You know marketing is the big thing and then everything else kind of goes behind it, you know.
- 8:01Speaker 5: I'm not much of a.
- 8:03Speaker 5: We've got a marketing team right now and I'm really just.
- 8:05Speaker 5: I just want the whiskey to speak for itself and it's really fun to be able to let that whiskey speak for itself.
- 8:11Speaker 5: And yeah, you know, he has a band collab where we see marketing and that's a band collab, because that's what it is, right.
- 8:19Speaker 5: But we don't really just want to slap a name on something.
- 8:22Speaker 5: We like to have something to do with it and we want to.
- 8:24Speaker 5: You know, for me.
- 8:26Speaker 5: I just want to let it out to you.
- 8:27Speaker 5: We want to do cool stuff and one of the people try it.
- 8:30Speaker 5: Come, get on board with us.
- 8:32Speaker 5: If you like what we're doing, fuck yeah, man, let's have a good time and drink a few.
- 8:36Speaker 5: If you don't like what we're doing, cool man, I'll drink this, you drink yours.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Let's have a good time and share some hopes and dreams together we don't need everybody to like our stuff, we just need a few.
- 8:50Speaker 3: There you go.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Well, also, you say that.
- 8:55Speaker 3: But at the same time there's the you understand and it's obvious, meeting you that what whiskey is and what you're in it for, it's the people that you're working with, it's the people that drink your whiskey.
- 9:12Speaker 3: It's the friendships I mean realistically.
- 9:16Speaker 3: The other day someone mentioned you know it's like you're doing, you know you're, you know it's all about the bourbon with you and I'm like, no, it's not about the bourbon, that's not what this is about.
- 9:30Speaker 3: It's not about bourbon, it's about the people you drink the bourbon with and you meet and you go around in the friendships that you make and bourbon is the connectivity to it and, yes, it's hot right now.
- 9:44Speaker 4: It's about like seeing your passion and it's about meeting other people with the same passion and just you know getting together.
- 9:53Speaker 4: And just before you know it, you have a creativity that's just unprecedented.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Did a did a GSM a couple of weeks back and a friend of mine who's in the liquor business, pretty successful at it as well, heard it and he basically cut me off like three quarters of the way through the GSM.
- 10:15Speaker 5: It was like you're fucking this up, paul, you're doing everything wrong, you're talking about all this stuff and no one cares about that.
- 10:21Speaker 5: You're whiskey as personality and character.
- 10:24Speaker 5: Lots of whiskies have character, few as a personality, and I think that's a really.
- 10:31Speaker 5: I thought that was a really cool way of talking about it because I do think few as a personality and there are a lot of whiskeys that have character and great character.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 5: But I think the personality of everybody on the team at few comes through that package and, as we're all getting together and sharing the good times with your friends and family or commiserating over bad times with your friends or family, I think that personality matters.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Absolutely 100%.
- 10:58Speaker 3: And the person, like you said, the personality, is the people that you guys are putting yourself available out there.
- 11:08Speaker 3: You're doing podcasts, you're, you know you're, you're accessible at the distillery and so that's where, like you know, it's a small craft distillery but you guys are putting a decent amount of whiskey on the shelf, there's no doubt about it and but, like you said, to sit and do that podcast from your distillery, where, where you enter into the distillery and where it is and the location and it's just it has so much personality and so much you know, character that it's an experience that you're not going to forget.
- 11:47Speaker 3: It's like you know, there's a lot of big guys doing stuff and, yes, those people can be accessible, but they're not accessible to like everybody that's coming through, and I'm not saying you're always there, but, at the same time, the accessibility is something that's really you know that.
- 12:50Speaker 3: That that part of it is, I think, where the personality of you, you know, comes into it.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, like I said, we have a team that everybody loves what they do and you know, I try to be accessible, I try to be there.
- 13:03Speaker 5: I'm not there all the time, but if I'm not there, maybe you know.
- 13:07Speaker 5: Maybe you get Riley yeah, right, it's amazing, right, it's not there.
- 13:10Speaker 5: Maybe you get Sydney, or you get Stuart, you get Aaron, or the next couple of weeks you can get Jared, but he's sadly leaving us.
- 13:18Speaker 5: Yeah, that's, that's what we are Like really.
- 13:23Speaker 5: We're all just people that.
- 13:24Speaker 5: Really, we all for the like whiskey and we love making it.
- 13:30Speaker 3: And it comes through.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure, that's for sure, really yeah.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Awesome.
- 13:36Speaker 4: And Jack Burgardu says Paul in the house, you know a Jack Burgardu.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Oh, what's going on, jack?
- 13:46Speaker 3: There you go.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:47Speaker 4: So there he's on the street.
- 13:53Speaker 5: We got Jack in the house.
- 13:54Speaker 5: There's a lot.
- 13:58Speaker 3: There's, there's.
- 13:59Speaker 3: There's a lot of people passing through tonight, so that's good yeah.
- 14:03Speaker 4: So you want to.
- 14:04Speaker 4: You want to start talking about how we got to talking about this Allison Chains and all secrets known, and how I mean, you got to talking and got this podcast set up tonight.
- 14:21Speaker 5: Tonight.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, Susan set up a meeting with us.
- 14:25Speaker 5: You guys saw it was March.
- 14:25Speaker 5: I didn't see it was that long ago.
- 14:28Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, it was at.
- 14:30Speaker 3: It was at the Galena whiskey festival.
- 14:33Speaker 3: That was when we first and then I called her.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Yeah, so it was probably April when we got together late April, if I'm not mistaken.
- 14:40Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, we just came by, we hung out, we had a good time and from that mistake and you guys are friends, you guys are fans of the band.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 14:50Speaker 5: We're talking about, we're getting we're getting to a re-release of it, which came out in when it came out it was like September.
- 14:59Speaker 5: It came out might have been October.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it was.
- 15:02Speaker 4: October is when it came out.
- 15:05Speaker 4: And I unsurprisingly, I asked yeah, I asked you to send me the link and for when it went on sale.
- 15:12Speaker 4: And so that day, at like 1130, 12 o'clock, as soon as it went on sale, I immediately ordered a bottle of it.
- 15:22Speaker 4: And then it's like at 545 pm I'm driving home from work and I got my phone up there on a mirror stand and all of a sudden did I get this message.
- 15:37Speaker 4: It says here comes the rooster and it's from Paul and so me and you started messages back.
- 15:46Speaker 4: You said you'd went in to check the orders to see how the sales were going.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Yeah, and the sales were going wild and I get an email every time somebody orders off of our retail partner online and they just send me the order and I get to see what do they buy.
- 16:02Speaker 5: And I like looking at where the state is, like where people buy it from and what do they buy, because it's a little market research, right.
- 16:10Speaker 5: Yeah, where people buy it and I can't see orders when it goes for a retailer or a bar.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Yeah, you don't get that so cool to have that kind of direct access.
- 16:20Speaker 5: And when we released it, we were getting an order every I don't know 15, 20 seconds, somebody else's, but was another order coming through, hundreds and hundreds of orders that first day, and so I wasn't out looking at all of them because I just wanted so many hours of the day, but I probably looked at like 15 or 20 of them just going ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding ding and for whatever random reason, your order happened to be the one I thought to.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I'm like oh, I know that guy.
- 16:52Speaker 4: That was wild.
- 16:53Speaker 4: I couldn't believe it when that message popped up.
- 16:56Speaker 4: And so yeah, exactly that's what she came back and told me, and so then my next thing was was like well, I got to thinking.
- 17:09Speaker 4: I was like well, I knew Chris would like a bottle of this and because he likes to kill the finished Burbans and whiskies.
- 17:18Speaker 2: So I was like, and so you told me well, you better hurry because it's selling pretty quick.
- 17:23Speaker 2: So, then, I got to think yeah.
- 17:25Speaker 2: So then I got to thinking I was like damn.
- 17:28Speaker 4: what would be cool is if I got Jeff and Chris a bottle of it.
- 17:32Speaker 4: So I did, yeah, yeah, but then.
- 17:35Speaker 3: but then you tell me, he tells me what happens.
- 17:38Speaker 3: And, as you know, I probably messaged you like the same kind of time that you sent here comes to Rooster, and I was like, hey, you want me to taste that on the podcast?
- 17:49Speaker 3: And you're like, yeah, I'll send you one.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Yeah, so, given that, I'm going to go ahead and give this to him, yay, and then we'll talk about the next thing that we got.
- 18:01Speaker 3: What's really cool is I got the bottle and did a good.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I promoted the bottle right.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I put out a lot of stuff.
- 18:09Speaker 3: I love the label.
- 18:10Speaker 3: As an artist, I really absolutely love that label and you know, and then when we were at Kentucky, when we were at Bourbon- what.
- 18:20Speaker 3: The.
- 18:22Speaker 5: Ohio guy does the art.
- 18:23Speaker 5: He's actually at Tennessee with his agents out of Ohio.
- 18:27Speaker 3: So when we were in Bourbon on the banks we were all together like once or twice a year, like we all get together, Just three or four of us or two, but it's rare that all five of us are together.
- 18:38Speaker 3: So we went, we did that at Bourbon on the banks and I brought that bottle to open up and I think that night we drank half of it.
- 18:46Speaker 5: Yeah, it's good.
- 18:46Speaker 5: The problem with the bottle they come with that little hole at the bottom where it just drains out.
- 18:51Speaker 5: Yeah that's what happens.
- 18:53Speaker 3: All right.
- 18:54Speaker 4: So I'm going to drink it all.
- 18:55Speaker 3: So I'm opening this, so let's see, all right, here we go.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Oh, amazon Prime.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Yeah, we already do something for Amazon.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Other side before it all falls out.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Okay, so there we go.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Oh my God, awesome, check it out, it's signed.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Thank you, song Song.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Excellent, that'll go up there.
- 19:24Speaker 4: So after I jumped back on, I ordered those other bottles.
- 19:27Speaker 4: I happened to message Paul back because I was like, hey, I was able to get those bottles.
- 19:32Speaker 4: I was like is there any way that you could order, because this was a pre-order.
- 19:39Speaker 4: So I was like is there any way that you could sign the bottles before they send them to me?
- 19:46Speaker 4: And then what was it exactly?
- 19:50Speaker 4: The green legs or the have got them, already got them, or green, what was it that's saying that you told me the green the mark, the distributors for the, you know.
- 20:03Speaker 4: You said something about.
- 20:05Speaker 5: It, shipped it.
- 20:05Speaker 5: I think we shipped them all out in the market Down to the distributor.
- 20:09Speaker 5: We shipped them out and it just kind of get.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Then it goes into like a whole distributor network and I don't know what they do with it and yeah, so as far as like signing a bottle, yeah, that's not gonna happen.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what he had told me.
- 20:21Speaker 4: So he said the green legs or something like that have already got them and there's no way I can sign the bottles, because they were like down at the distributor.
- 20:29Speaker 4: And then we got to talking about it and he just so happened to have some labels or something.
- 20:39Speaker 5: So that's a good that's sent out a blank label.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Yeah, and sent me up.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Do you like on your blank?
- 20:46Speaker 3: Do you frame your labels?
- 20:50Speaker 5: No, I do have a little bit of a.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Art collection oh.
- 20:58Speaker 5: So the top two layers.
- 21:01Speaker 5: There are stuff that I did.
- 21:04Speaker 5: I got this one, oh yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Nice.
- 21:12Speaker 5: Those are nice and you can probably guess who they are.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Yeah, we know who those are, so did you Now those?
- 21:18Speaker 3: Did they sign the labels or the bottle for you?
- 21:21Speaker 5: They signed the labels and then they sent me we should have them blank labels.
- 21:24Speaker 5: They signed them and they should have them back to us and then we label it.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Okay.
- 21:28Speaker 5: So we did that with like a flaming lips.
- 21:30Speaker 5: We did that with Black Roll Motorcycle Club, Alph chains.
- 21:34Speaker 5: We'll do it with our other bands, the other band collaborations we got coming out next year.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Okay, now do you get to meet them?
- 21:42Speaker 3: Do they actually come to the distillery and talk to you or ever taste the that we did a little more remote, so kind of done remote.
- 21:52Speaker 5: Some bands come into the distillery, like we're with a band called Evanescence.
- 21:57Speaker 3: I know Evanescence, I love Evanescence.
- 22:00Speaker 4: I'm sure they'll go to.
- 22:01Speaker 5: Whiskey in the alley, just talking to them about what they wanted their whiskey to taste like, which has been really fun Like they're just cool people.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Did they want it to taste good?
- 22:15Speaker 5: No, the whiskey that we did with them is awesome.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Okay, I can't imagine having it like them trying to describe to you what the whiskey should taste like.
- 22:25Speaker 5: It's got failure.
- 22:25Speaker 5: What do you like and like, what would mean something to you musically and artistically and what would your fans like and what can we do to make a cool whiskey that isn't just slapping a name on a label, like that's not Right, that's not what needs to reflect something about you as a musician and as an artist and that's reflected something about us too, like it's not just we wanted to be a collaboration, not just that's what I.
- 22:51Speaker 5: I mean, look you like y'all can change, buy their whiskey.
- 22:54Speaker 4: That's what I was just about to say.
- 22:55Speaker 4: That's what a true collaboration is.
- 22:58Speaker 4: It's getting together like that and just trying to pull what they want out of them and then put in your input and then when you come up with a finished product, it's amazing.
- 23:12Speaker 5: Through a motorcycle club, just on back down.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Yep nice.
- 23:16Speaker 5: I'm thinking we were talking with them that we did that during COVID, so that was all via Zoom.
- 23:21Speaker 5: But we just kind of talked to them about how they drink whiskey and we ended up with the concept of we wanted a whiskey that was gonna taste like riding a motorcycle through the American South and driving by a barbecue joint.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Wow, that's what we set out to create and I think we did a pretty damn good job of it, because when I drink that whiskey, that's what I feel like.
- 23:46Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Obviously it's gotta have some char right.
- 23:50Speaker 3: There's gotta be a little bit of char in there, that's for sure.
- 23:53Speaker 4: I was about to say now I need to find a bottle, because that's what I do, is ride a bike through the South.
- 23:58Speaker 4: I was just on mine just a couple of weeks ago.
- 24:02Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's fine.
- 24:03Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, that's the idea, that's like the philosophy or the concept behind it.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Yeah, did you get?
- 24:09Speaker 3: No?
- 24:09Speaker 3: No, you don't add the bugs in, do you?
- 24:15Speaker 5: No, but it's called motor oil because when they're on the tour bus they drink whiskey.
- 24:18Speaker 5: But they don't talk about whiskey, they talk about giving you another shot of that motor oil.
- 24:22Speaker 5: Oh, wow, whiskey, motor oil.
- 24:25Speaker 5: And now we did not just put 10, wait 40 in.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I hope you.
- 24:30Speaker 3: I've had some pitted scotches that actually do taste like motor oil.
- 24:38Speaker 5: Yeah, and we had a funny.
- 24:39Speaker 5: We were getting ready to release the black rebel in Europe and they would not let us call up motor oil in Europe because they thought people would be confused and either put it in their car I mean, that's a bad idea to put whiskey in your engine.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Oh wow, what?
- 24:57Speaker 3: But wait, I mean they sell it at the convenience store.
- 25:03Speaker 3: I mean, come on, it's like.
- 25:05Speaker 3: It's like, yeah, that's what I do.
- 25:07Speaker 3: I always get my motor oil from the liquor store and make sure OHLQ gets its taxation on it.
- 25:13Speaker 3: It's bizarre, right?
- 25:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't see how you make this Interesting, interesting stuff right there In the actual whiskey business.
- 25:22Speaker 5: You get used to the bureaucratic inanity pretty quickly Because they're like, really that makes no sense, but all right, whatever.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we'll do what you want us to do, even though it might not make.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Well, you got to pick at you sometimes if it makes absolutely no sense and it means something to you.
- 25:41Speaker 3: You kind of got to fight a battle here or there, but that is not a battle you need to fight, yeah.
- 25:47Speaker 5: That's the thing I used to say.
- 25:47Speaker 5: I used to say I used to say is that enough?
- 25:49Speaker 5: You know, we first started doing it.
- 25:53Speaker 5: One of the people we were talking was like well, you can't put the word motorcycle on a bottle of whiskey.
- 25:58Speaker 5: People think it's OK to drink and drive what?
- 26:02Speaker 5: No, no one's going to think that.
- 26:07Speaker 3: The only way.
- 26:08Speaker 3: So what you should have called it is please drink and drive.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Now they could think of it on that one that you're asking them to do it, but about wow.
- 26:19Speaker 5: TTV would not and the TTV would not allow us to have, and I remember the exact thing that we wanted to put on the back, but it was.
- 26:26Speaker 5: It was like raise hell freely, but don't drink and ride.
- 26:31Speaker 5: And I go no, you can't say don't drink and ride.
- 26:35Speaker 5: I'm like we got you talking about.
- 26:37Speaker 5: We can't say don't drink and ride.
- 26:40Speaker 4: How does that?
- 26:41Speaker 5: Wow, that sounds like you're promoting safety right there, you know and they won't let you put it on there Drinking and ride what the fuck are you talking about?
- 26:49Speaker 5: Yeah, what the hell what you do that either, Chris.
- 26:54Speaker 3: There he is.
- 26:56Speaker 5: Don't drink and drive him bro.
- 26:58Speaker 7: You know, I'm not, can you even?
- 26:59Speaker 3: see me.
- 27:00Speaker 7: Yeah, we see you.
- 27:01Speaker 7: Yeah, we see you now.
- 27:02Speaker 3: There he is.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Ct is in the house.
- 27:04Speaker 7: I go to the road Lighting is amazing, isn't it In this 2012 Toyota Tacoma.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Did you take?
- 27:10Speaker 3: Did you take that specifically for the lighting?
- 27:14Speaker 7: Yeah, Well, no, I took it specifically because this is what I drive everywhere so you know.
- 27:21Speaker 5: If you say it, man, don't be driving and zooming.
- 27:25Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm just driving down the road.
- 27:27Speaker 7: I got a package in here to unwrap or open, but what, what, yeah, what kind of package are we talking about?
- 27:37Speaker 3: CT, you look down.
- 27:40Speaker 7: Well, I'm looking over in the seat because it's next to me.
- 27:43Speaker 7: It's this package.
- 27:45Speaker 4: All right, pull the top off without looking.
- 27:51Speaker 7: Pull the top off without looking and drive.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Yeah or pull over.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Yeah or pull over that's what I thought you were going to do.
- 27:59Speaker 7: Listen, if I can eat breakfast and drive down the road, I can definitely open a box.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Oh God, Don't make sure there's no cop next to you.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, you don't want to pull this out.
- 28:14Speaker 3: next, to you, dude, are you in Springfield right now?
- 28:19Speaker 7: No, I'm actually in deep.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Oh, so you don't have quite the.
- 28:22Speaker 7: Is this the Allison chainspot?
- 28:25Speaker 3: Yes, it is, but look at what it's.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Oh yeah, look at the label.
- 28:31Speaker 7: I'm trying to get all the Saran wrap.
- 28:33Speaker 7: I'm guessing Nash and his normal.
- 28:37Speaker 4: Well, I had to shift that up there, so I had to protect it from leakage.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Is that why you needed?
- 28:44Speaker 3: You needed to your town here.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Cutting Saran wrap off?
- 28:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:52Speaker 7: So that's, great.
- 28:52Speaker 7: Oh heck, yeah, yeah, it's so cool.
- 28:57Speaker 7: Thank you very much.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Yeah and Paul, there you go, you got your signature.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Hey, there's the man you need to be thinking right there oh thank you so much.
- 29:08Speaker 7: And then this is awesome.
- 29:09Speaker 7: I missed out on what you guys have been talking about.
- 29:15Speaker 7: What have you guys been going over?
- 29:19Speaker 3: Just going over what, what's been happening at at few, what led up to this, this bottle?
- 29:28Speaker 4: How this bottle came about and the and the sign labels for you guys and and all that's freaking sweet yeah, so they appreciate that, paul.
- 29:41Speaker 4: Paul, just like I say, I ordered the bottle and then Paul just happened to be checking emails and he saw mine.
- 29:50Speaker 4: He says me a message here comes the rooster.
- 29:53Speaker 4: I was like what?
- 29:54Speaker 4: I was driving down the road when it popped up.
- 29:57Speaker 4: So, there's like, oh my god.
- 30:01Speaker 4: So we just got to talk it and then I was like well.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I need to order.
- 30:05Speaker 4: Chris, one, because I knew you would love this tequila finish.
- 30:08Speaker 4: And that's before I knew, that's before I knew Jeff had got one to taste.
- 30:13Speaker 4: So.
- 30:14Speaker 4: So then it was like well, then I'm going to get another one for Jeff.
- 30:18Speaker 4: And then I was like well, how can I get these signed?
- 30:22Speaker 4: And next thing, you know, paul helped me out and we got the label sign and all that.
- 30:28Speaker 4: That's how it all come about.
- 30:31Speaker 7: Thank you, that's a nice Thank you, so you're welcome brother, that's freaking sweet.
- 30:37Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm anxious to get to get home and have a quarter of that tonight, so that's awesome so.
- 30:48Speaker 4: I just want to say cheers, because that's what we're sipping on right now.
- 30:54Speaker 7: Cheers, okay, great, thanks a lot yeah.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Yeah, put that down.
- 30:58Speaker 3: You have to light on oh God, you're in.
- 31:02Speaker 7: Yeah, so I have a question, paul, because when we were there there was another lab you were working on and you talked about it.
- 31:16Speaker 7: Maybe they were still working on finalizing the barrel pick, but it was a band that I am very fond of, I love, and did that ever come to be here?
- 31:29Speaker 7: What happened that?
- 31:31Speaker 5: Not sure which band that was.
- 31:32Speaker 5: We got two more co-labs coming out next year.
- 31:35Speaker 4: I just had a chat today, I think Evanescence.
- 31:38Speaker 4: I knew he was talking about.
- 31:40Speaker 5: About next fall.
- 31:42Speaker 5: I think we're working on the label art with them, and is it another one too?
- 31:50Speaker 7: Yeah, she absolutely rocks that one.
- 31:55Speaker 7: I got to have too, for sure we were talking about that.
- 31:58Speaker 5: She's been amazing to work with.
- 32:00Speaker 5: She's so cool as shit, she's funny, she's kind oh.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Is that a cop behind you, pulling you over?
- 32:14Speaker 7: No, it was a cop going through somebody's car.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Right, so you got.
- 32:21Speaker 4: We saw the oh my God, yeah, mine got the biggest pancakes.
- 32:25Speaker 4: I was like, oh no.
- 32:26Speaker 3: So, paul, do you try and get the bands to do special?
- 32:31Speaker 7: Podcast.
- 32:31Speaker 7: First, if I got pulled over during the podcast, that would be kind of like a big equipment.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Yeah, because then you.
- 32:39Speaker 5: It's so easy to hear.
- 32:39Speaker 5: It's closed and sealed, by the way.
- 32:43Speaker 4: If you're a gossip it's an open.
- 32:49Speaker 7: If they know, they know there's no way I took all the sand wrap off in the car.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Well, well, it's just Nash was.
- 32:58Speaker 3: He sent it up and it was wrapped.
- 33:00Speaker 3: You saw that.
- 33:00Speaker 3: And he's like, well, we're going to be doing this podcast, so I'm going to need to unwrap it while you go upstairs.
- 33:06Speaker 3: And then I got to get it because I got to do some things to it.
- 33:10Speaker 3: He was like acting like he was going to stick the label on or anything, and I know the label already was on.
- 33:16Speaker 3: He was basically getting the saran wrap off because he probably had triple what he's got on your CT, so that I would have to just keep unwrapping, because that's what he does to me.
- 33:26Speaker 3: So that's, that's what it anyway.
- 33:30Speaker 7: I did.
- 33:30Speaker 7: I did a video of the unboxing and the bubble wrap that was in that box.
- 33:36Speaker 7: I was just constantly pulling bubble wrap off of the green yeah, but it's great because it's great for future packages.
- 33:51Speaker 3: I don't.
- 33:51Speaker 3: I have not.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Ever since I met him, I have not had to buy any bubble wrap.
- 33:55Speaker 3: I just save it in a couple big boxes and I've always got enough bubble wrap, there's no doubt.
- 34:02Speaker 7: So so, paul, can you send me other?
- 34:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I send up a bunch of those to him too, but the thing is is even when I get the bubble bag Paul is all saran wrap, the top of it and probably the whole bottle.
- 34:19Speaker 4: I'll put tons of that saran wrap on it just to make him go through the hell.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Hey, it's worth it.
- 34:26Speaker 3: It's usually the bottles are worth it.
- 34:30Speaker 4: Gotta protect it, gotta protect the whiskey.
- 34:32Speaker 3: So go ahead, CT.
- 34:34Speaker 3: What was your question?
- 34:36Speaker 7: No.
- 34:36Speaker 7: So when Paul said he had a couple, are you able to say who the other one that you're working with other than in essence?
- 34:44Speaker 5: So yeah, we're going to say Chicago band by one of the bigger bands that ever came out of Chicago.
- 34:49Speaker 5: I should probably tell you about who it is, but yeah, save for that one.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Oh my God, there's three that just come right to mind.
- 35:04Speaker 3: And all, that's three to three.
- 35:09Speaker 3: What Did you say?
- 35:11Speaker 3: Name the three.
- 35:12Speaker 3: Yeah cheap trick, cheap trick, aria journey.
- 35:19Speaker 5: Yeah, it's the pumpkins.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Oh, smashing.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Oh my God, that's even better.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Wow, that's good.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Wow, so you're working on the club.
- 35:28Speaker 3: What's it like working out with them?
- 35:32Speaker 5: The label is coming out, awesome yeah man, that's going to be freaking awesome.
- 35:38Speaker 5: They're like Billy's well, they're now married.
- 35:41Speaker 5: He actually sponsored the wedding, but they just got married and Chloe is super creative.
- 35:49Speaker 5: It does like really cool.
- 35:51Speaker 5: Really I can really out there.
- 35:54Speaker 5: There's kind of a I don't want to call it gone, but like it's really ornate art that's just dark and awesome.
- 36:02Speaker 5: And so I can't wait for that label to hit the market, because it's so cool.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Now no one, no one.
- 36:10Speaker 4: What I've heard and we've talked about already tonight, and the way you've been working with the collaborations with the rest of them Now I can't wait to hear about and taste the whiskey that you've done with them.
- 36:25Speaker 4: Now after hearing about the label, so I can only imagine what the whiskey is going to be tasting.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Like I'm not going to do anything.
- 36:32Speaker 5: that's not great whiskey?
- 36:33Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly.
- 36:34Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Yeah it's going to have to be great.
- 36:39Speaker 3: So when are you going to get them to do, like you know, small, elaborate concerts for the opening, Like where you invite specific people, like that, wind tickets and stuff like that?
- 36:52Speaker 3: Just, you know small, that's what you got to do to finish that you know.
- 36:56Speaker 4: I think I see one thing.
- 36:58Speaker 5: They just played a 50 person show at his coffee house.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Well, yeah, exactly.
- 37:03Speaker 3: I mean, that's the kind of thing that you got to.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Maybe you need to get a venue, or because you're going to become the collaborating distiller, the way it's going, I mean it's got to be fun for you.
- 37:17Speaker 3: It just has to be these.
- 37:20Speaker 3: The bands you pick are so creative, you know.
- 37:22Speaker 3: So you're talking about creativity and whiskey.
- 37:26Speaker 5: I'm a foreign musician.
- 37:27Speaker 5: I love music.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Music's always been a huge part of my life and it's really you know, a huge part of my heart and soul and so the work with bands like these that you know I'm a big fan, it's really fun.
- 37:40Speaker 5: And, like you know, I can't write music the way they do.
- 37:44Speaker 5: They can't make whiskey the way I do, but you kind of get together and you talk about it and really, you know, creating a new whiskey and writing a new song, they're not that different, it's both just different forms of art, right and so.
- 37:58Speaker 5: I'm not good at one, they're not good at the other form of art, but working together and equal and kind of come up with some cool stuff that you know.
- 38:07Speaker 5: They don't know what you can or can't do in the world with whiskey and they're not bound by their biases of what whiskey is or that you can just talk to them about.
- 38:17Speaker 5: You know what would be cool, what flavors do you like and what would make sense for your fans.
- 38:25Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, this is coming from the distiller that proofed down his rye with Oolong tea.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Right, I mean I've got it, I've got it, I love that bottle.
- 38:37Speaker 3: I do yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Yeah, we're just talking about that before we started the show so you know, that's where creativity comes in and, like you said, you're dealing with, it's not people within the industry, where they wanna like we were talking before with marketing they wanna stick to rules, they wanna tell you you can't say this or you can't do this, and they want if you're gonna stray from bourbon, let's just say, or rye, the general thing that everybody wants.
- 39:06Speaker 3: They're probably not saying that's the greatest, let's just stick with that.
- 39:11Speaker 3: But when you're talking about doing these collaborations, there's no sticking with anything.
- 39:16Speaker 3: You basically it's open for you, right?
- 39:19Speaker 5: I mean marketing guys wanna just like pigeonhole things and put things in this, like okay, this, this wig looks like that, this gadget does this and that's cool.
- 39:28Speaker 5: Now you know it makes the marketing guys job easier.
- 39:30Speaker 5: You know, certainly like have the marketing guys job easy, but it makes my job unfun and well, well, but then I don't know how much easier it is for marketing.
- 39:44Speaker 3: You get to do what you wanna do with the band, but then their name's attached to it, and then that makes it easy for marketing.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I mean, I just, you know Alice in chains, ever, ever, as Evanescence, evanescence, and as you keep going, you know what you're doing.
- 39:59Speaker 3: That in itself, I mean, it just sells the bottle, even though what's in there is great and creative.
- 40:08Speaker 3: So you've got the best of both worlds, I mean-.
- 40:13Speaker 5: And it brings people to few right.
- 40:15Speaker 5: I mean they're working with Alice in chains.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 40:18Speaker 5: And there's millions, of hundreds of thousands of Alice in chains.
- 40:20Speaker 5: Fans yeah, never heard a few.
- 40:23Speaker 5: All of a sudden they're like oh.
- 40:26Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, yeah, I need to buy that Now.
- 40:29Speaker 5: You've heard a few and maybe now you buy it again sometime, yeah, and it's more than a few of their fans.
- 40:35Speaker 5: No, I see yours.
- 40:38Speaker 5: Like I said, it's more than a few.
- 40:39Speaker 7: I know-.
- 40:40Speaker 7: So, Paul, other than the special release stuff like Alice in chains, how many labels are you producing, like between the American blah, blah, blah?
- 40:52Speaker 7: How many do you actually have out for sale right now?
- 40:57Speaker 5: We've got our core products, which are what we call our core products.
- 41:00Speaker 5: You get a street bourbon, we got a street ride.
- 41:03Speaker 5: We got our bib bourbon, we got our bib ride.
- 41:06Speaker 5: And then, on top of that, we got the cold cut, which is proofed with cold brew coffee.
- 41:14Speaker 5: We got the immortal ride, which is proofed with Oolong tea, and then we got the Awesome, let's eat, so we.
- 41:22Speaker 5: It's funny that we have all these different skews, but it really kind of comes down to bourbon and ride yeah and they go every little single barrels.
- 41:32Speaker 5: We use single barrels.
- 41:33Speaker 5: We got it all here.
- 41:37Speaker 5: A few spirits come join us there you go.
- 41:40Speaker 5: Awesome.
- 41:43Speaker 7: I mean, if you've been to Chicago and I'm just gonna say, if you go to Chicago and you go to you, do not rent a.
- 41:51Speaker 3: Ford Mustang.
- 41:52Speaker 3: If there's more than two people, A GTL.
- 41:56Speaker 7: That is literally the worst car ever to take three guys that are six foot and over.
- 42:02Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 42:04Speaker 4: We put.
- 42:04Speaker 4: I rented a Mustang when I came up there, Paul, and we put CT in the back, because we're the two biggest guys, so we were out in front, but he had to sit sideways in that Mustang to ride over there and all around Chicago while we were there.
- 42:20Speaker 5: I still love that cramp.
- 42:21Speaker 5: Isn't that roomy for the bigger gentleman?
- 42:24Speaker 7: No, it's not, I mean my side.
- 42:27Speaker 7: It still hurts.
- 42:28Speaker 7: I can't get the cramp to go out that got in there when we got in the back of that thing.
- 42:32Speaker 5: Well, at least it's-.
- 42:33Speaker 5: Yeah, they used to drive a little Alphas Blader.
- 42:35Speaker 5: Ooh.
- 42:36Speaker 5: Six foot to 20 and it started to fit in there.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Oh, my God yeah.
- 42:46Speaker 3: He wasn't having any, probably driving.
- 42:48Speaker 3: It was the back seat that we had to peel CT out of.
- 42:53Speaker 3: We actually did a reel of that of him getting in there and then getting in.
- 42:58Speaker 4: It did pretty well, I thought we were gonna have to have a can opener to get him out of there If I had been a few years older you know they called the fire department.
- 43:08Speaker 3: Ha ha ha, all right.
- 43:12Speaker 3: So I mean you talked about what's coming up.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Anything else like going forward, any do you have?
- 43:20Speaker 3: Anything that you're working on is not just as collabs but you wanna promote.
- 43:25Speaker 3: You know, right now going out.
- 43:28Speaker 5: Yeah, we're always talking about.
- 43:29Speaker 5: We always talking about bourbon and right.
- 43:30Speaker 5: Talk about our own bottles and bonds.
- 43:32Speaker 5: I think one of the cool things that we've gotten and sold out immediately is we started doing this project that we call a serial killer.
- 43:45Speaker 4: And to see this model.
- 43:47Speaker 5: You definitely gonna wanna check that out.
- 43:49Speaker 5: Super, super limited right now, but I think it's one of the coolest whiskeys we've done, because, instead of using a molten barley for the sacrification, we're using Kovo G, and so it's a really, really fun, cool project that you really get these cool flavors that you're not really accustomed to and whiskey and so but that's just coming out little germs and drabs because, um, frankly, you don't have that much of it.
- 44:24Speaker 7: And Jeff saw that name and he's like wait, chris has got to have that much.
- 44:28Speaker 4: That's what I was thinking there.
- 44:30Speaker 3: What cereal would you eat with Paul?
- 44:33Speaker 3: If you had to pour that over some cereal, which one would it be?
- 44:39Speaker 5: I'm a golden grams guy.
- 44:41Speaker 2: I don't even know what you're doing with golden grams.
- 44:44Speaker 4: I think that was the first one that he did was with golden grams, right.
- 44:49Speaker 7: Cinnamon toast crunch.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Cinnamon toast crunch yeah.
- 44:52Speaker 5: That's a good one.
- 44:52Speaker 5: I'm also partial to frosted mini-weets.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Yeah, but you'd have to have the right whiskey to go over frosted mini-weets.
- 45:02Speaker 3: It'd have to be, maybe it'd have to be a weeded whiskey, a wheat whiskey, to go over the mini-weets.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:10Speaker 5: You can get a sweet enough ride, you'll be all right.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Okay.
- 45:14Speaker 7: I'm going to try that cereal rye over top of some golden grams and I'm going to rock it.
- 45:21Speaker 7: It's going to handle it.
- 45:23Speaker 3: He does this, he's done it, my favorite was.
- 45:26Speaker 4: He does that on the reels.
- 45:28Speaker 3: Oh, just to watch it is enough to make you vomit.
- 45:31Speaker 3: It's just like it was EH Taylor.
- 45:33Speaker 3: And what?
- 45:34Speaker 3: What was EH Taylor over?
- 45:36Speaker 7: That was the cinnamon toast crunch.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Oh God, I just I couldn't even imagine that.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Oh.
- 45:42Speaker 7: That was a little hard and it kind of hurt.
- 45:44Speaker 7: My ambirona finished tasting buds because it fried, so now ambirona is like super sensitive for me.
- 45:56Speaker 3: So that's just like amazing.
- 45:58Speaker 3: You pour EH Taylor over cinnamon toast crunch and then you'd no longer like ambirona whiskies.
- 46:04Speaker 3: Finished whiskey, no that.
- 46:07Speaker 7: When you take cinnamon toast crunch and you amplify it like that and already if your on it has that cinnamon toast crunch kind of thing, cinnamon toast flavor, it definitely puts it in a different platform and now it's like it's just I drink it and it's like I'm not really fond of it as much now.
- 46:26Speaker 3: There you go, all right.
- 46:29Speaker 3: So yeah, everybody.
- 46:31Speaker 3: Thanks so much, paul for coming on the podcast tonight.
- 46:35Speaker 3: We'd love to have you, you know.
- 46:38Speaker 3: Have you on, keep us updated and then anytime we get exactly anytime we get in the area, we'll let you know.
- 46:46Speaker 3: I mean, we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with you last time.
- 46:51Speaker 3: And it's just you're.
