- 0:56Speaker 4: of you, dog, Thank you. I feel like we had
- 0:58Speaker 4: a front row seat to your sension.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I was trying to work here down here in Atlanta
- 1:02Speaker 1: from got.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Work, yeah, god work, because if you would have got
- 1:07Speaker 4: the Atlanta job. I don't think, well, what happened that's.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Why I wasn't hired. I'm gonna just say yeah, because
- 1:14Speaker 2: at first I was tight. I'm like, why wouldn't they
- 1:17Speaker 2: hire me?
- 1:18Speaker 5: Isn't that radio?
- 1:19Speaker 6: Though?
- 1:19Speaker 7: That's a radio work. I'm new to radio, so yeah,
- 1:23Speaker 7: that's how radio works. You normally, the job that you
- 1:26Speaker 7: want to get, you don't get. It is the job
- 1:28Speaker 7: that you don't get, and then you get the job
- 1:30Speaker 7: that you're really supposed to have.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I feel like that's just favor. That's like any industry.
- 1:35Speaker 2: It's just favorite, God's favor. Not to say there's anything
- 1:37Speaker 2: wrong with Atlanta because I love it.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah, we know.
- 1:42Speaker 4: I text you in the morning because I get up
- 1:43Speaker 4: until I'm so tired now because I want to sleep
- 1:45Speaker 4: late and I get up early in the morning. I
- 1:47Speaker 4: take my kids to school.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Okay, every time they say something funny. But you be
- 1:52Speaker 2: laughing with them at me, and you'll text me to
- 1:56Speaker 2: laugh because you be going in back here. May be
- 2:00Speaker 2: like you ball here. He'll text me like bay here,
- 2:03Speaker 2: like all right, but you be good morning.
- 2:06Speaker 4: You really be on ten though, like you be ready,
- 2:09Speaker 4: you be ready to get right back.
- 2:10Speaker 1: At like what's on?
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean somedays sometimes I'll be like I don't
- 2:14Speaker 2: even want to, Like your feet are swinging when you
- 2:16Speaker 2: sit down. It's okay, I don't even feel like because
- 2:19Speaker 2: people will be feeling like they'd be like, why you
- 2:20Speaker 2: won't never go back and forth?
- 2:21Speaker 1: I'm like, he is, like four eleven. I can't sometimes.
- 2:25Speaker 5: So it's because you have you really got jokes, is
- 2:26Speaker 5: what you're saying.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Not because I really got jokes.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I just really don't be feeling like it sometimes, Like
- 2:31Speaker 2: and sometimes it'd be funny, like he says something the
- 2:33Speaker 2: other day, I was like, all right, you ate that?
- 2:35Speaker 1: All right, twin you ate that?
- 2:37Speaker 5: So what what time do y'all have to be on?
- 2:39Speaker 1: Like they start the show at six am?
- 2:42Speaker 4: So what time you have to be there?
- 2:43Speaker 2: So we're supposed to be there, like my on my
- 2:46Speaker 2: team on my side, it would make more sense if
- 2:48Speaker 2: we're thereby like the latest five thirty am, five fifteen,
- 2:51Speaker 2: but the show goes live, like the talent is live
- 2:54Speaker 2: on the radio at six am, But my first tease
- 2:57Speaker 2: is at like maybe like twenty twenty five minutes after that.
- 3:00Speaker 7: So, now did do you did you feel any pressure
- 3:03Speaker 7: when when you first started doing radio, because I know
- 3:06Speaker 7: you came from TMZ.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Correct. Yeah, it's a big difference.
- 3:10Speaker 2: When I didn't even think about the difference. Like I
- 3:12Speaker 2: feel like now I'm getting more into like, oh that's
- 3:15Speaker 2: a radio thing. Oh you would do this in TV,
- 3:19Speaker 2: but you don't do that in radio or as a personality.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I didn't think about it. I just did what I
- 3:23Speaker 2: knew how to do, like, which is talk about news
- 3:26Speaker 2: and you know what I mean, Like I really wasn't
- 3:28Speaker 2: thinking about it. Now the stylized like you know, all
- 3:31Speaker 2: that stuff, it's starting to come in because I feel
- 3:33Speaker 2: like I'm learning how to be a radio personality or
- 3:36Speaker 2: just a personality in general. And I know, I like,
- 3:39Speaker 2: I have my own personality, so I'm learning how to
- 3:42Speaker 2: incorporate what I naturally like who I just am naturally
- 3:45Speaker 2: with what you have the time allotted to do on air,
- 3:47Speaker 2: and the fact that like people come to hear conversation
- 3:50Speaker 2: and news, like there's like so many like nuances that
- 3:53Speaker 2: now I'm thinking about that I didn't think about over.
- 3:55Speaker 4: So I was saying off air and I would say
- 3:57Speaker 4: I can't wait till you get here because I wanted
- 3:58Speaker 4: to say this because I know it's gonna be a
- 4:00Speaker 4: a clip, thank you, because New York. You need it
- 4:05Speaker 4: to be on the radio in New York in that
- 4:07Speaker 4: slot because if you really think about it, it's been
- 4:09Speaker 4: the same people on the radio in New York for
- 4:15Speaker 4: like decades.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah, the show is like what fifteen years old.
- 4:18Speaker 4: I'm just talking about the whole I mean, yeah, the
- 4:21Speaker 4: same people new York full time. Yes, I don't know, know.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, I mean it depends because the other stations
- 4:30Speaker 2: be doing things you just might not might not care
- 4:33Speaker 2: as much.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Face, I know, your radio in New York full time,
- 4:40Speaker 4: full time, I know, except for my guy. What's my
- 4:43Speaker 4: guy named ninety seven? Oh Merror, that's the name maryl.
- 4:48Speaker 2: But like but see, like my homegirl Mia Bells over there,
- 4:51Speaker 2: she's young, she's new.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yeah, she works. She's on the same show with Merrow.
- 4:55Speaker 5: She does.
- 4:57Speaker 2: She does like their news and stuff, like she anchors
- 4:59Speaker 2: up the story and stuff on that show. But also
- 5:01Speaker 2: she worked with me and her did the BT show together,
- 5:03Speaker 2: the BT Talk Shows.
- 5:05Speaker 4: That's two. Then you that's three. Name somebody else because
- 5:09Speaker 4: Andreie Martinez from Flex and you know what it is.
- 5:14Speaker 2: If I'm being honest, I feel like the days of
- 5:16Speaker 2: like really having like the celebrity radio personalities. It's been
- 5:21Speaker 2: a while since there's been an explosion in the conversation
- 5:24Speaker 2: around that, So you wouldn't know these people because they're
- 5:26Speaker 2: still they're there and they're working, but they're still going
- 5:28Speaker 2: on the name for themselves. So it might not have
- 5:30Speaker 2: traveled outside of New York or you know, to a
- 5:32Speaker 2: certain happy to.
- 5:33Speaker 4: See you because new face, and it was somebody different
- 5:37Speaker 4: than what you normally see. I just and you're younger.
- 5:40Speaker 4: You know, a lot of a lot of the you
- 5:41Speaker 4: know has no no disrespecting tenent, like they're a little older,
- 5:46Speaker 4: and it was good to see someone a lot younger
- 5:49Speaker 4: new on radio in New York.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yeah, being ready on being on rady on New York is.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I never even thought that that would be, Like you
- 5:59Speaker 2: have fans, which is and I'm still like you particularly,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I don't even subscribe to all that type of stuff.
- 6:08Speaker 7: But what about when you were covering the Diddy story
- 6:10Speaker 7: and then the situation with the lady running up on you.
- 6:13Speaker 5: I know you was like, what the hell?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Which one?
- 6:15Speaker 2: Oh crackhead Barbie. Yeah, I mean I'm not worried about that.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Like people in real life, they're not they're not on
- 6:21Speaker 2: that like, I'm fine, liked that's her name person, Yeah's
- 6:28Speaker 2: she goes viral like that's.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Like, oh but no, I mean and I don't know.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I just I really don't be worried about a lot
- 6:37Speaker 2: of the stuff that like good people be worried about,
- 6:39Speaker 2: because I mean, you know, I know I'm covered by God,
- 6:41Speaker 2: but also like I'm fine, I can I'll figure it
- 6:45Speaker 2: out if ever that time was to come.
- 6:47Speaker 4: I like how you're as authentic as ever on the
- 6:49Speaker 4: show too, because you talk about your relationship. I guess
- 6:52Speaker 4: Charlata Magne kind of instigates it. You don't have a choice.
- 6:57Speaker 2: The reason why, I mean, I keep a lot to
- 6:59Speaker 2: myself because of just you know, I just feel like
- 7:02Speaker 2: now as things grow, I love to share and I'm
- 7:04Speaker 2: very vulnerable, and I feel like you should be because
- 7:06Speaker 2: I think, especially because were young and people are trying
- 7:09Speaker 2: to figure things out. Everybody always trying to make it
- 7:11Speaker 2: seem like they got everything figured out, and I'm like, no,
- 7:14Speaker 2: you don't. Like you might have the job, the card
- 7:16Speaker 2: or whatever, you're still trying to figure something. I think
- 7:18Speaker 2: it's important to share your story. But when I was single,
- 7:22Speaker 2: I was very open about that cause like I don't know,
- 7:26Speaker 2: like I didn't know, like, okay, you're get on radio,
- 7:28Speaker 2: Like there's millions of people listening. Until I was talking
- 7:30Speaker 2: about in that single phase and I would literally go
- 7:33Speaker 2: out in New York and like I might be in
- 7:35Speaker 2: a restaurant and somebody's walk up to me, like my
- 7:37Speaker 2: son is on face time.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I'd be like, yo, people really be listening.
- 7:41Speaker 2: So now, yes, But when I was like when I
- 7:45Speaker 2: first came back onto the show, I remember being out
- 7:49Speaker 2: and about and like I'm like, oh, like radio is
- 7:52Speaker 2: like instant. Like television is different because like you have
- 7:56Speaker 2: to become like a big star for people to really
- 7:58Speaker 2: care about you on TV or in movies, right, But
- 8:01Speaker 2: like on radio, if people listen to you daily, do
- 8:04Speaker 2: you become a part of their routine the way that
- 8:06Speaker 2: they lock in with you. It's like almost like cult
- 8:09Speaker 2: like you know, and it's a great feeling to have
- 8:12Speaker 2: because you can really connect with people. But it made
- 8:14Speaker 2: me be like, all right, I'm gonna share and I'm
- 8:16Speaker 2: gonna do everything I naturally do. But like that's when
- 8:18Speaker 2: you start thinking about, Okay, the responsibility of it a
- 8:20Speaker 2: little bit versus Yeah, like I look back at some
- 8:23Speaker 2: of the clips and I'm like, oh, Lauren, why did
- 8:26Speaker 2: you even say.
- 8:26Speaker 4: That this is learning in real time too?
- 8:30Speaker 2: No, one hundred And I never ever want people to
- 8:32Speaker 2: think that I be upset about the fact that I'm
- 8:35Speaker 2: learning in real life.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Behind the scenes, I might be going through it.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I might be beating myself up about something having to
- 8:41Speaker 2: learn in real time or having to talk myself through it.
- 8:43Speaker 2: But like, I think that a part of like because
- 8:45Speaker 2: I always try to figure out like what the purpose
- 8:46Speaker 2: is and what the wire is, and I think a
- 8:48Speaker 2: part of my purpose right now in my life and
- 8:51Speaker 2: for a while has always just been like people need
- 8:53Speaker 2: to see it be done and know that they can
- 8:54Speaker 2: do it too. So when you're watching me on air
- 8:57Speaker 2: learn radio, learn how to do segues, and they'll say
- 8:59Speaker 2: on edit, that was a horrible segue. In real life,
- 9:02Speaker 2: I thought I was killing it, like you know what
- 9:03Speaker 2: I mean. But like, so you're learning, and as I
- 9:06Speaker 2: get better, you kind of grown with me. I think
- 9:08Speaker 2: like that kind of creates that like we're locked and
- 9:10Speaker 2: feeling as well.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So it's I don't know, radio is just so different.
- 9:14Speaker 7: And if well you also in New York. Yeah, so
- 9:17Speaker 7: it's like you that.
- 9:19Speaker 4: I mean, we do.
- 9:22Speaker 5: About it.
- 9:22Speaker 7: We both started and ready on in smaller and smaller situations,
- 9:27Speaker 7: smaller markets.
- 9:28Speaker 5: You starting from going to high school straight to the NBA.
- 9:31Speaker 6: Yo, So it's I can't even imagine doing something like
- 9:34Speaker 6: that said something like that to me before did Yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 6: he was talking about how like, you know, shout out
- 9:39Speaker 6: to Van Leathan, one of my big bros that used
- 9:41Speaker 6: to work at TMZY.
- 9:42Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, the end was like I thought about
- 9:44Speaker 2: him today, I'm gonna call him. That's the second time
- 9:46Speaker 2: I thought about him. But they were talking just about
- 9:49Speaker 2: kind of like because I feel like I'm going to
- 9:50Speaker 2: through artists development a little bit sometimes and it'd be rough,
- 9:53Speaker 2: but I'll be like, I know I need this because
- 9:55Speaker 2: God is like preparing me because you know, but he
- 9:57Speaker 2: always had he mentions like when they talk they talk
- 10:00Speaker 2: about the fact that like I got thrown into the
- 10:02Speaker 2: pros and a lot of the basics of the game,
- 10:04Speaker 2: I'm learning as I'm.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Playing the game, you know.
- 10:07Speaker 2: So yeah, and to be honest, I feel like sometimes
- 10:10Speaker 2: like with me and Jesz, that's the beauty of it
- 10:13Speaker 2: is that we're learning while.
- 10:14Speaker 1: We're playing the game.
- 10:15Speaker 2: But then sometimes when you're in it you feel like, yo,
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'm not doing this right, Like what the heck is happening?
- 10:21Speaker 5: Y'all really feel like that some days.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Some days you get off air and I'd be like, oh,
- 10:26Speaker 2: they hated all my stories And they will tell you
- 10:28Speaker 2: like why did we talk about it? Like you know,
- 10:30Speaker 2: and you get feedback, and the feedback is constructive, but
- 10:33Speaker 2: it like if you're not if you're not in the
- 10:36Speaker 2: right posturing. That's what I pray about, is that my
- 10:38Speaker 2: posture is always good so that I can receive things
- 10:41Speaker 2: and I can also know when to like not take
- 10:43Speaker 2: things and hold on to them too.
- 10:44Speaker 1: But when you receive certain.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Things, you're just like, oh, like cause also too, it's
- 10:50Speaker 2: like a I can't mess this up. Like I got
- 10:53Speaker 2: a lot writing on this, Like this is not just
- 10:54Speaker 2: like a cute little job for me. This is my career.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I worked a long time to be Yeah, I worked
- 11:02Speaker 2: a long time to be in this space. I didn't
- 11:03Speaker 2: know what the space would look like, but I knew
- 11:05Speaker 2: that this is what I was supposed to be doing.
- 11:07Speaker 2: So I'm always like, I can't mess this up. So
- 11:09Speaker 2: when you mess up, you feel like it's the end
- 11:11Speaker 2: of the world.
- 11:11Speaker 7: Sometimes, So when when you saw like when you started
- 11:14Speaker 7: going on the show and you became like a favorite
- 11:17Speaker 7: with the fans.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Yeah, they hated.
- 11:21Speaker 7: But what I was gonna asks us with when you
- 11:23Speaker 7: when you see the comments, right, and everybody is like, yo,
- 11:27Speaker 7: we need.
- 11:27Speaker 5: Laying on the show, we need laying on show, we need.
- 11:29Speaker 7: Laying and like, does that cause friction with like at
- 11:33Speaker 7: that particular time, like with everybody else on the show.
- 11:37Speaker 2: No, I mean at that time it was just me.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Jess was on maternally was me and being charlam Mane.
- 11:42Speaker 2: So no. I think the thing though, that will begin
- 11:45Speaker 2: to happen is like you're you see that and then
- 11:49Speaker 2: one wrong mistake, it's the complete opposite and you're like, yo,
- 11:53Speaker 2: wait so you get used to like now you don't.
- 11:55Speaker 2: That's something like I don't even subscribe to all that stuff,
- 11:57Speaker 2: Like I really appreciate people who support me. And I
- 12:00Speaker 2: tell you, if I meet somebody like I'm running around,
- 12:02Speaker 2: somebody stopped me, I stop, I talk, I do whatever,
- 12:04Speaker 2: because I just appreciate the fact that you even care
- 12:06Speaker 2: enough because I know, like two years ago things were
- 12:10Speaker 2: so different from me.
- 12:11Speaker 1: You know what I mean.
- 12:11Speaker 2: But when you learn in real time that like girl,
- 12:14Speaker 2: they be with you on Monday, hate you, boycot you
- 12:16Speaker 2: on Wednesday, and love you'll get on Thursday.
- 12:19Speaker 1: You know what I mean, that's what.
- 12:23Speaker 5: That's ready.
- 12:23Speaker 1: That's what those comments will do.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Like, it's not even about the friction that those comments
- 12:28Speaker 2: will teach you real quick at don't don't don't be too.
- 12:31Speaker 7: Like okay, yeah, don't feel yourself too. It's like basketball,
- 12:35Speaker 7: like you'll see you if you look at basketball social media,
- 12:39Speaker 7: you look at the comments, they'd be.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Like, why are we playing this defense?
- 12:42Speaker 7: And then then it's like you look up, it's the
- 12:44Speaker 7: next quarter, and then the Hawks will win and they'd
- 12:46Speaker 7: be like, hell, yeah, that's how we sposted.
- 12:47Speaker 5: To play it.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It's like people are.
- 12:49Speaker 5: So wish washing on that internet, like you don't know
- 12:51Speaker 5: what you're gonna what you're gonna get nowadays.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Now, my question to you was when when Jess was
- 12:56Speaker 4: on maternity leave, and because I felt like you got
- 13:00Speaker 4: you and the guys had a really good chemistry. But
- 13:02Speaker 4: then when Jess came back and I was gonna I
- 13:05Speaker 4: can't wait to ask just this question. I just want
- 13:07Speaker 4: hurt input. I want to hear you.
- 13:08Speaker 1: You should come here because she's promoting her book.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Yeah, she is coming. We're gonna grab her because she's uh,
- 13:13Speaker 4: she's coming. She's coming to Atlanta.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Her book week? When does this? When does this drop?
- 13:18Speaker 5: TC?
- 13:19Speaker 4: This will probably drop next week.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Okay, well her book may be out by the time
- 13:22Speaker 1: people see this, but do we parents? So she should
- 13:25Speaker 1: come here? Go ahead.
- 13:27Speaker 4: I felt like when Jeff Jess was on maternity. First
- 13:29Speaker 4: of all, when Jess wasn't even hired and they were
- 13:33Speaker 4: just rotating people, obviously, I felt like, you had a
- 13:37Speaker 4: very very great you did a very great job.
- 13:39Speaker 5: And then that's.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Crazy because I was I don't know, I felt like
- 13:44Speaker 2: I couldn't you couldn't really tell, like I don't know,
- 13:46Speaker 2: it was it was like the responses was like, oh
- 13:50Speaker 2: that was new.
- 13:50Speaker 1: The responses are all over the place.
- 13:52Speaker 4: But when you were somewhat of a permanent and they
- 13:55Speaker 4: kept you for a very long time, I thought that
- 13:58Speaker 4: that was great for you, and I think like you
- 14:00Speaker 4: guys were coming up with a chemistry. But then when
- 14:01Speaker 4: Jess came back, I felt like the chemistry got messed
- 14:04Speaker 4: up because now it's almost like a player getting hurt
- 14:07Speaker 4: on the basketball figure out you got to refigure the chemistry.
- 14:10Speaker 4: What did was there a conversation.
- 14:12Speaker 1: What did you guys, how did you conversation with who?
- 14:15Speaker 4: Was there a conversation period about okay, how we're gonna
- 14:18Speaker 4: figure this out? Or did just just come back? And
- 14:22Speaker 4: then that was it.
- 14:22Speaker 2: We had We had conversations like I mean, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 2: you plan for stuff like that, like there're you know,
- 14:27Speaker 2: number one morning show, Like you can't just you know,
- 14:29Speaker 2: like so we had conversations I think where And then
- 14:32Speaker 2: I know I wanted to make it a priority that
- 14:34Speaker 2: me and just actually got a chance to like talk ourselves,
- 14:37Speaker 2: like outside of everybody, because we had never met in person.
- 14:39Speaker 2: We had never even really talked to each other too
- 14:41Speaker 2: much for real, before we started working with each other.
- 14:43Speaker 2: We had talked a little bit through DM and like,
- 14:45Speaker 2: you know, when she got the job, I had sent
- 14:46Speaker 2: her some stuff to the station, a congratulator, but other
- 14:48Speaker 2: than that, we had never even really talked. So I
- 14:50Speaker 2: was like, you know, before we go back to work,
- 14:52Speaker 2: I don't know what day she's coming in, but like
- 14:54Speaker 2: I would love to be able to like talk. So
- 14:55Speaker 2: we sat and talked just us too, for like a
- 14:57Speaker 2: couple of hours, taking shots, drinking just kind of like vibing,
- 14:59Speaker 2: you know. And then before she came back, we had
- 15:02Speaker 2: team meetings whatever, I think where things get jumbled at.
- 15:06Speaker 2: It's like she you got to think about it, like
- 15:08Speaker 2: she's coming back into a space that was completely different
- 15:10Speaker 2: before she left. Correct, So she's coming back, she's getting
- 15:13Speaker 2: orient reoriented into things.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Just had a baby.
- 15:17Speaker 2: It's new for me because I've gotten used to doing
- 15:19Speaker 2: it where it's like you know, it's yeah, so now
- 15:22Speaker 2: and that even that was like such a learning curve
- 15:25Speaker 2: for me because I had never done radio right, so
- 15:27Speaker 2: I'm learning so much now I have to keep learning,
- 15:29Speaker 2: but like learn it and learn how to like it
- 15:31Speaker 2: before people. And then we got to figure out, you know,
- 15:35Speaker 2: like who's comings and where where, like what everything is
- 15:37Speaker 2: going to be. I think in real time that was
- 15:39Speaker 2: another thing in real time that people got to see
- 15:41Speaker 2: us figure out. Like it ended up you know, getting
- 15:43Speaker 2: to where it got to, and I think it all
- 15:46Speaker 2: ended up working out. But all of that in real
- 15:48Speaker 2: time we were yes, we were talking, but like it's
- 15:51Speaker 2: one of the things that you're figuring it out, because
- 15:52Speaker 2: I think chemistry is not you can't really plan chemistry,
- 15:55Speaker 2: and like some of it we just had to kind
- 15:57Speaker 2: of like get in it to do it. But there
- 15:59Speaker 2: were conversations that ever been had for sure.
- 16:01Speaker 5: So who idea was it to say I'm not leaving?
- 16:06Speaker 1: Who like me?
- 16:07Speaker 2: Yeah, well, behind the scenes, behind it, behind the scenes,
- 16:11Speaker 2: the conversation was going to be like it was just
- 16:14Speaker 2: me being a producer, like they knew like on the
- 16:16Speaker 2: like news in and like you know, figuring out what
- 16:19Speaker 2: to talk about, how to talk about it. There was
- 16:21Speaker 2: like a void there that needed to be felled, like
- 16:23Speaker 2: with helping a producer. So once just got the job,
- 16:26Speaker 2: Dad asked me, like, you know, would you be down
- 16:28Speaker 2: to come back as a producer even if you're not
- 16:29Speaker 2: on air? And I was like, yeah, that's fine with me,
- 16:31Speaker 2: Like I needed a job, and I was like, you know,
- 16:33Speaker 2: if for me, it's always been about the learning. I'm like,
- 16:36Speaker 2: if I'm gonna be anywhere, i'd rather be with the
- 16:38Speaker 2: best people doing it. So even if I'm not on air,
- 16:40Speaker 2: I'm getting to watch y'all and hear y'all every day,
- 16:42Speaker 2: Like I'll figure out on air somewhere else. I got
- 16:45Speaker 2: Instagram because at the time, my whole focus was like
- 16:47Speaker 2: I wanted my own show and I wanted to build
- 16:49Speaker 2: my own platform. So I'm like, all right, bet I
- 16:51Speaker 2: could take this produce, get to see it in real
- 16:55Speaker 2: time every day, be in the presence of greatness, and
- 16:57Speaker 2: then be able to pay my bills so I can
- 16:59Speaker 2: focus on, you know, my platform on the side. And
- 17:02Speaker 2: then things just evolved once I was actually back on air,
- 17:05Speaker 2: And I think a lot of it too, was like
- 17:06Speaker 2: I wasn't personality wise, I wasn't really the best radio
- 17:09Speaker 2: personality when I first came back in, like I was
- 17:11Speaker 2: doing well and I was keeping up, and I think
- 17:13Speaker 2: for a lot of people it was like, oh shoot,
- 17:15Speaker 2: because you've never even a lot of people didn't even
- 17:17Speaker 2: know who I was. So for me to come out
- 17:19Speaker 2: the blue and be like somebody that people were like
- 17:22Speaker 2: actually like, oh okay. Even if it was a little
- 17:25Speaker 2: bit of people, it was like where did this girl
- 17:27Speaker 2: come from? Like she's not a name that we know,
- 17:29Speaker 2: she's not a big influencer her like, So I think
- 17:31Speaker 2: people were more into it because it's like you're watching
- 17:35Speaker 2: like a fire start in real time, Like you're watching
- 17:38Speaker 2: me kind of get the fire under my feet and
- 17:39Speaker 2: learn everything that kind of put me in the position
- 17:42Speaker 2: I'm in now, and people like to watch the journey.
- 17:44Speaker 1: So yeah, I think that that's what happened.
- 17:46Speaker 2: But we had conversations though, Like we had a lot
- 17:48Speaker 2: of conversations behind the scenes, because there's no way you
- 17:52Speaker 2: can bring back your that's at the end of the day,
- 17:54Speaker 2: Like there's three seats that were given. You can't bring
- 17:56Speaker 2: back your third seat and have a person there and
- 17:58Speaker 2: not have conversations.
- 17:59Speaker 4: So now for sure, because yeah, because it was always three,
- 18:02Speaker 4: but now it's four.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Well technically it's still three seats. I'm technically not a
- 18:08Speaker 2: co host of the Breakfast Club. I'm the senior news
- 18:09Speaker 2: producer copy, but I'm there.
- 18:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, but visually it's four of y'all.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Visually, yeah, I mean you you know what I mean.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I think I think with the with the new iteration
- 18:24Speaker 2: of the Breakfast Club, like the vision is there are
- 18:27Speaker 2: like you have Nyla and you know Nyla's pocket, Nyla
- 18:30Speaker 2: coming with all the new fly music, the new artists
- 18:32Speaker 2: you should be listening to. She's gonna tell you where
- 18:34Speaker 2: you should be in the city or other cities because
- 18:35Speaker 2: she's DJing and she's there.
- 18:37Speaker 1: You have me. I'm the man on the street, you know,
- 18:39Speaker 1: I'm bringing in like the.
- 18:41Speaker 2: News, like you know, it's different now, I.
- 18:45Speaker 4: Know, especially here in Atlanta. If it's coming from you,
- 18:48Speaker 4: you done checked every source possible.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I can't even tell you that, but like that's like
- 18:56Speaker 1: such a vague.
- 18:57Speaker 2: So I got one major, like god, so that I
- 19:00Speaker 2: call about every story. No, Yeah, y'all need to get
- 19:07Speaker 2: better at sending me y'all exclusively.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Yeah, she got on me because remember we had interview
- 19:12Speaker 4: Tip first.
- 19:13Speaker 5: Yes, were the interviewing everybody first?
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yes, But the way that y'all released the content, other
- 19:17Speaker 2: places will get it.
- 19:17Speaker 1: And I'm like, we can support y'all.
- 19:19Speaker 4: We don't have we don't have a big team like
- 19:21Speaker 4: the Breakfast Club.
- 19:22Speaker 2: But you can interview somebody and literally just call me,
- 19:25Speaker 2: just send me the clip. I'll tell you what I
- 19:26Speaker 2: want from.
- 19:27Speaker 5: It, Okay, cool, Okay.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Yeah, we're gonna get TC all right because literally we
- 19:31Speaker 4: went viral for Tip because he came straight to us
- 19:34Speaker 4: because he cut his head.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's the thing like sometimes, because you know,
- 19:38Speaker 2: when you're in a newsroom, like being at TMZ, doing
- 19:41Speaker 2: exclusive news is like you do that or you don't
- 19:44Speaker 2: have no job. So like if it's a sixth day,
- 19:46Speaker 2: a seven day work week, right, maybe five you got
- 19:49Speaker 2: five days that you're preparing you gotta you gotta get
- 19:52Speaker 2: at least laying at least minimum two three exclusive stories,
- 19:56Speaker 2: and some of them may be used uring the week.
- 19:57Speaker 2: The rest of them might be used on the weekend,
- 19:59Speaker 2: as all those that go up automatically over the weekend
- 20:01Speaker 2: when you're not at work. But like, you can't just
- 20:03Speaker 2: sit on your hands and not figure something out. So
- 20:06Speaker 2: a lot of times my exclusives might not be I'm
- 20:08Speaker 2: telling you some news first.
- 20:09Speaker 1: It might be oh, t I pulled up.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Yo, I got the audio, it's gonna air this date
- 20:14Speaker 2: like that listen first is an exclusive, or you know
- 20:18Speaker 2: now I'm learning. Because radio is about personality and experience,
- 20:21Speaker 2: POV can also be exclusive, like just point of view
- 20:24Speaker 2: and being at something and being able to bring people
- 20:26Speaker 2: in that world. Like, so y'all need to get better?
- 20:28Speaker 5: Yeah, because I.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Need I need help.
- 20:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean so much.
- 20:35Speaker 1: I should do.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Send me your interview schedule, because if y'all are getting
- 20:39Speaker 2: people that like, we might not have got it or
- 20:41Speaker 2: people that are news relevant at the time.
- 20:44Speaker 7: So this guy, I'm gonna give him his props. Every
- 20:48Speaker 7: new artist that has broken in Atlanta in the past
- 20:50Speaker 7: two years, he found them before anybody.
- 20:54Speaker 4: So all the.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Music that people are listening to from Atlanta.
- 20:57Speaker 7: He found these people two years ago, the Belly Gang coulds,
- 21:01Speaker 7: the YK needs the the It's a new guy y'all
- 21:03Speaker 7: gonna hear about him in a couple of months, hard
- 21:06Speaker 7: hard like, And I'm like.
- 21:09Speaker 4: They cleaned the song for me. It was no clean version,
- 21:14Speaker 4: but I just that's what I like to do.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Yeah, But I love that though, because I'm like.
- 21:17Speaker 4: An Envy a little bit.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I was about to say that reminds me like when
- 21:20Speaker 2: you hear like I've read Angie Martinez's book two times
- 21:23Speaker 2: before I ever worked at the breakfast club, right, So
- 21:25Speaker 2: when you know like careers like hers or Envy's or
- 21:28Speaker 2: like whatever.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Like I remember the first that met MV.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I was like, you mixtape DJ Envy, right, and he
- 21:33Speaker 2: was like yeah, And I'm like, why no more people
- 21:35Speaker 2: know that? But I know it because it's like I've
- 21:38Speaker 2: always known of the mixtapes and the things that he
- 21:40Speaker 2: was doing, right, Like, but like when you think about
- 21:42Speaker 2: back during those times on radio, that was such a thing.
- 21:47Speaker 2: It was like what people were doing. I feel like
- 21:49Speaker 2: some of the lost art stuff we can get back
- 21:51Speaker 2: too easily. And that's why I be so like when
- 21:53Speaker 2: people be amazed by like certain things I'm doing. I'm like,
- 21:56Speaker 2: this is what the root at the root these are,
- 21:58Speaker 2: this is what it came from. You get on the air,
- 22:01Speaker 2: like you think about the Wendy Williams of the world,
- 22:03Speaker 2: or you know, the Miss Jones or whatever. Like the
- 22:05Speaker 2: personalities were. They were taking you into things. They were
- 22:08Speaker 2: telling you things. First, Angie Martinez was getting interviews that
- 22:10Speaker 2: like people was like, yo, she don't want nobody, want
- 22:12Speaker 2: to sit with nobody but her. She was to go
- 22:15Speaker 2: to something happens they picking up the phone and calling
- 22:16Speaker 2: her us getting back to that and radio is just
- 22:19Speaker 2: like returning to what it was. But everything always goes
- 22:21Speaker 2: full circle.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Like I agree with that because you know, because I
- 22:25Speaker 4: think nobody has a song with t I and I
- 22:27Speaker 4: have one that's dropping. It very hard to get to
- 22:32Speaker 4: do a song for you, and I got them to
- 22:33Speaker 4: do it. Let's go, you know, just putting that out there. Listen, man,
- 22:37Speaker 4: this guy's connected like the Wi Fi. But you know
- 22:39Speaker 4: what Ray Daniels uh he he talked about something about,
- 22:43Speaker 4: you know, the lack of superstars in radio, and I
- 22:47Speaker 4: really don't think there's a lack of superstars. I think
- 22:49Speaker 4: that there's superstars on the way.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Mmm, I think that I think that it's about oh
- 22:56Speaker 2: my god, I really be sounding like unk now. But
- 23:00Speaker 2: Charlotte Mane always says that radio is like the best amplifier,
- 23:03Speaker 2: and it's true because if you think about, like what
- 23:06Speaker 2: what they had the genius to do with the Breakfast
- 23:08Speaker 2: Club once you left? That's why I'm like, there's all
- 23:11Speaker 2: these faces of the Breakfast Club now right, Like what
- 23:14Speaker 2: was genius about that? Is they amplify people who were
- 23:17Speaker 2: already moving and grooving. They just needed the amplification. Nilab
- 23:21Speaker 2: ben fire Like, that's not true. They the platform is
- 23:25Speaker 2: just there now past the office her segment, so you
- 23:27Speaker 2: see it just been doing what just is doing. She's
- 23:29Speaker 2: just on Breakfast Club.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Now. I can't.
- 23:31Speaker 2: People feel like I came out of nowhere, but I've
- 23:33Speaker 2: been doing the same job for a long time.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Nobody comes out.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Of the Amplifying is important, I think the best, not
- 23:41Speaker 2: even just radio, but like anywhere right now, the way
- 23:44Speaker 2: that content is going, people want to be working for
- 23:47Speaker 2: themselves as much as they can. Ye, everybody's not gonna
- 23:49Speaker 2: be good at it, but the people who figure it
- 23:51Speaker 2: out in this content space they smart because if you're
- 23:54Speaker 2: doing it the right way. People just want to come
- 23:56Speaker 2: in and partner and amplify what you're already doing and help.
- 23:58Speaker 2: And you help them solve a problem, they help you.
- 24:00Speaker 2: The days of it being like just ownership and like
- 24:02Speaker 2: whatever I think those days is out the window. And
- 24:04Speaker 2: I think that's why you feel like Breakfast Club is
- 24:07Speaker 2: like leading the charge of like breaking these new faces
- 24:10Speaker 2: because they're just Envy and Charlottete are really smart. The
- 24:12Speaker 2: leadership there, Charlotte Theda really smart and like being like,
- 24:15Speaker 2: you know what, let's let's see who we can look
- 24:18Speaker 2: around and like let's put this like melting pot together
- 24:20Speaker 2: like the best to ever do it in their perspective situations,
- 24:24Speaker 2: you know. And then use the fact that the breakfast
- 24:26Speaker 2: Club is such a platform. And that's another thing too.
- 24:29Speaker 2: I don't think people understand the power of radio, and
- 24:31Speaker 2: I don't think people understand the power of the breakfast club.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I think those two things people The breakfast Club is
- 24:39Speaker 1: one O six in part people don't they don't job.
- 24:45Speaker 2: I was on like only entertaining people will understand this,
- 24:48Speaker 2: But I was on television every single day, prime time
- 24:51Speaker 2: and daytime TV. That is a serious slot. To be
- 24:53Speaker 2: in in LA which is the number one market, on
- 24:55Speaker 2: a huge show with TMZ. Granted the start of the
- 24:58Speaker 2: show is Harvey, right, but like you're on that show
- 25:01Speaker 2: and it was great, and I'm there, I'm working whatever
- 25:05Speaker 2: being on the Breakfast Club just in the six to
- 25:09Speaker 2: seven months I was there, feeling it for just the
- 25:11Speaker 2: way that my life changed, the way that my income changed,
- 25:14Speaker 2: the way that like my like I literally can't put
- 25:18Speaker 2: it into words sometimes because it's like like y'all see it,
- 25:23Speaker 2: but like I can. I'm like, I can't even show
- 25:25Speaker 2: everything because I don't got enough posts on Instagram in
- 25:28Speaker 2: a day, Like it's it's so like like no, but
- 25:32Speaker 2: as guide. But also people don't understand the power of
- 25:36Speaker 2: the platform of the Breakfast Club.
- 25:37Speaker 4: That's why I always take the time to tell you you're
- 25:39Speaker 4: doing a great job. I'm proud of you, because it's
- 25:43Speaker 4: very difficult. What we do in media is very difficult.
- 25:47Speaker 4: We have to we can't even be late. We have
- 25:49Speaker 4: to be early. You can't be on time, being on
- 25:51Speaker 4: time as late in our job, in our line of
- 25:54Speaker 4: the work, we never get award. There's no awards for
- 25:56Speaker 4: what we do.
- 25:57Speaker 1: And your job is your life. For real, for real, we.
- 26:00Speaker 4: Don't clock out. I don't know how many times.
- 26:03Speaker 5: We never clock out at all.
- 26:05Speaker 4: It's always something going on twenty four hours a day.
- 26:09Speaker 1: And if you're not there, you're not on the post.
- 26:10Speaker 4: There you go. If you're not on the timeline, you
- 26:15Speaker 4: ain't on the timeline.
- 26:16Speaker 5: You ain't on the time. Damn. Like you don't even.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Exist out of sight, out of mind.
- 26:20Speaker 4: So that's why, for example, him and I we blanket
- 26:24Speaker 4: our market very well. We're in the streets. He does
- 26:28Speaker 4: a R and B party, I DJ, he hosts. I'm
- 26:31Speaker 4: putting out songs with artists, big artists. We have a podcast,
- 26:35Speaker 4: The Ballert Show, but we also have our show for
- 26:37Speaker 4: our NBT. We're in multiple markets. We're doing as much
- 26:40Speaker 4: as we can to stay in the algorithm all day.
- 26:44Speaker 2: But I also think too, like even outside of the algorithm,
- 26:46Speaker 2: because I feel like you can be in an algorithm
- 26:48Speaker 2: and be going nowhere in the.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Algorithm is also true, like people just.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Be putting stuff out there and it's like, okay, cool,
- 26:53Speaker 2: But like I think it's the substance of the content, right,
- 26:55Speaker 2: Like it's like, all right, your interviews is here, But
- 26:57Speaker 2: people not just feel like they need to come here
- 26:59Speaker 2: because y'all on a radio, like people feel like the
- 27:02Speaker 2: conversations actually garner them something in exchange. And that only
- 27:05Speaker 2: happens when you know what the act, you know what
- 27:07Speaker 2: to talk about. You know, you know what I mean.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Like when I be seeing y'all clips pick up, I'd
- 27:10Speaker 2: be like, yeah, Like cause a few years ago, when
- 27:14Speaker 2: I first graduated, I came to Atlanta for like six
- 27:16Speaker 2: seven months, and I was thinking about staying here, And
- 27:18Speaker 2: the reason why it was because I was like, yo,
- 27:20Speaker 2: Atlanta's media, I feel like it's such in a bubble,
- 27:24Speaker 2: like it doesn't make it out of Atlanta.
- 27:25Speaker 1: And I was like, I know, I talk about that
- 27:27Speaker 1: all the time that couple years ago.
- 27:30Speaker 2: But I mean from my outside, I don't know they're
- 27:33Speaker 2: gonna be mad at me, but I don't live here.
- 27:34Speaker 1: I'm leaving a couple of days on matter.
- 27:35Speaker 2: But from the outside looking in, like it's better now,
- 27:38Speaker 2: it's it's it's changed now like one hundred percent. But
- 27:41Speaker 2: a few years ago, literally the reason why I was
- 27:44Speaker 2: going to move here is because I was like, I
- 27:46Speaker 2: know how to I know how to get out the
- 27:47Speaker 2: bubble so I can be like big fish, small pond.
- 27:50Speaker 2: And that's why when I see y'all go viral or
- 27:52Speaker 2: like getting the interviews, I'm like, that's I love to
- 27:55Speaker 2: see that because there's so much here in Atlanta. But
- 27:58Speaker 2: for a long time, it wasn't getting the like conversation
- 28:02Speaker 2: outside of Atlanta.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Well, you know, that's that's good for them that they
- 28:06Speaker 5: didn't figure it out. But you know, the good thing.
- 28:07Speaker 7: But we figured it out because we started our podcast,
- 28:10Speaker 7: the ball Alert Show.
- 28:11Speaker 1: It just happened.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Well, Ferrari was one of the original This is the
- 28:15Speaker 4: funniest story. The original Ball Alert Show was me be Simone,
- 28:19Speaker 4: this girl named Eleven, and this guy named sticks Malone.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Because it was just to be like a big round.
- 28:24Speaker 4: To tell you, I'm gonna keep it quick. And then
- 28:26Speaker 4: we stopped because someone blew up and got like super big,
- 28:29Speaker 4: and then we stopped. So then Kenny Burns restarted it
- 28:33Speaker 4: me Kenny Burns solo, and then Octavia. He got hired
- 28:36Speaker 4: of you one the three said he'd be busy, and
- 28:38Speaker 4: he got super busy. So then I had got I
- 28:42Speaker 4: had went from doing nights on the radio to doing afternoons,
- 28:44Speaker 4: which is a big deal. Long story short, I'm on
- 28:48Speaker 4: the phone with this guy and he's talking hell and
- 28:49Speaker 4: ship on the phone. I was like, you perfect, I said,
- 28:54Speaker 4: come do the show.
- 28:55Speaker 1: He came on the show. Friend is here.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Okay, what's on? She pic right out there in front.
- 29:02Speaker 2: She's short, you'll see her.
- 29:03Speaker 5: Okay, we're still rolling right, Okay.
- 29:07Speaker 7: But the good thing is that when he called me,
- 29:10Speaker 7: I was already doing grown Up pip Hop.
- 29:11Speaker 5: So I was on the reality TV show called grown
- 29:13Speaker 5: Up Hip Hop. I was doing this, Okay.
- 29:16Speaker 1: So when I first met you.
- 29:18Speaker 7: Everybody always say that, Yeah, so I was three seasons
- 29:22Speaker 7: of growing up p You.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Know what's crazy.
- 29:23Speaker 2: I was working for Angela Simmons on nj IMTV early right.
- 29:27Speaker 2: She was trying to start a platform before platforms was
- 29:29Speaker 2: really on YouTube. She I got the job fresh out
- 29:32Speaker 2: of college. I'm like, all right, I'm lit. I'm about
- 29:33Speaker 2: to move to New York. We're gonna do this thing.
- 29:35Speaker 2: She was like, I got a TV deal offer, I'm
- 29:37Speaker 2: gonna just put her show on PAUS and I'm gonna
- 29:39Speaker 2: come back. It was grown Up pip Hoop. She never
- 29:41Speaker 2: came back, but she went off and then grown Up
- 29:43Speaker 2: pip Pop Happy and they like did the whole show
- 29:45Speaker 2: and the whole thing.
- 29:45Speaker 7: Yeah, because they had like grown up hip hop la
- 29:49Speaker 7: in Atlanta. Of course we had the best one, and
- 29:52Speaker 7: that show really helped me a lot in like the
- 29:53Speaker 7: media space because now it already gave me national recognition
- 29:58Speaker 7: with like everybody because a lot of personalit of these
- 30:00Speaker 7: in Atlanta was just like local talent.
- 30:02Speaker 5: So then on top of that, this nation called me.
- 30:05Speaker 7: So now I'm doing this nation with the Brad and
- 30:07Speaker 7: Porsche at the time, and then Roy called me like, man,
- 30:11Speaker 7: man just come by and do baller.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Talking ship the phone and I was like, man, just
- 30:16Speaker 4: come do that on camera. I remember we went viral
- 30:18Speaker 4: because of the Chick fil A guy He went and
- 30:21Speaker 4: wrestled someone who had a bad order, and I was
- 30:24Speaker 4: just like, remember we.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Went yeah, I remember talking about it.
- 30:26Speaker 4: That's the first time we started going viral. And then
- 30:28Speaker 4: we just started consistently going viral. Remember we went viral
- 30:30Speaker 4: for Tucy saying he likes regular girls. It was it
- 30:33Speaker 4: just started happening.
- 30:34Speaker 5: But you remember what I over I said.
- 30:36Speaker 7: I said, Man, I said, I want to change the
- 30:39Speaker 7: landscape of media in Atlanta, because I said, I want
- 30:42Speaker 7: us to be able to talk about something and it
- 30:45Speaker 7: goes outside of the bubble.
- 30:47Speaker 5: The same thing you was talking about.
- 30:48Speaker 4: I also had at the time, I was in between
- 30:50Speaker 4: radio contracts and I took a job with Warner Records,
- 30:53Speaker 4: so I actually was a national executive on the radio
- 30:59Speaker 4: I was. I was on Motions Warner Records. So what
- 31:02Speaker 4: happens is I start. I saw that they would have
- 31:04Speaker 4: these PR meetings label meetings on Thursday, and they kept
- 31:08Speaker 4: naming all these big podcasts and interviews, and I kept saying,
- 31:12Speaker 4: when they went to Atlanta, it was just two radio stations.
- 31:15Speaker 4: I said, Hey, ball Alert, what y'all doing? So Ballert
- 31:20Speaker 4: just started getting on the list. So what I did was,
- 31:22Speaker 4: I said, I called every label rep that I knew.
- 31:24Speaker 4: I said, hey, bro, baller Alert, when an artist or
- 31:26Speaker 4: whoever you got comes to town, bring them the ball Alert.
- 31:29Speaker 4: And then that's when we started blowing up. We started
- 31:32Speaker 4: going viral. Everybody.
- 31:34Speaker 1: This is like full circle.
- 31:36Speaker 2: And I got a chance before to talk to Robin
- 31:38Speaker 2: like some months ago, not months ago. It was like
- 31:40Speaker 2: two years ago now, I said, months ago, My first
- 31:45Speaker 2: like ever ever. The first time I saw a blog
- 31:48Speaker 2: on Instagram was ball Alert just before shave room here.
- 31:52Speaker 2: And I remember they used to do like in the
- 31:54Speaker 2: club where the ball Yeah, because at that time, I
- 31:58Speaker 2: was like internet kid, trying to figure out how to
- 32:00Speaker 2: make a career off the internet. And I started seeing
- 32:03Speaker 2: these blogs and I'm like, oh, I could do that.
- 32:05Speaker 2: But like I was like, everybody's doing entertainment, maybe I
- 32:07Speaker 2: could just do fashion. So I'm watching ball Alert and
- 32:09Speaker 2: kind of watching what they're doing, and I'm trying to
- 32:11Speaker 2: figure it out in fashion. And when I first graduated
- 32:14Speaker 2: from college, Stephanie eleven eight on Instagram she was working
- 32:19Speaker 2: with ball Alert and I just hit her up and
- 32:21Speaker 2: was like, Yo, I'm just trying to get some experience.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Can I like shadow you? She was like, yeah, I'm
- 32:25Speaker 2: going to the Revolt conference. Om and did you used
- 32:26Speaker 2: to do the Revolt conferences in Miami. She's like, I'm
- 32:28Speaker 2: going to the Revolt conference.
- 32:29Speaker 1: You know, just if you can get there, you can
- 32:31Speaker 1: work with me.
- 32:32Speaker 2: That was the first That was one of the first
- 32:33Speaker 2: yesses I ever got, was working with Stephanie for baller
- 32:36Speaker 2: Alert at Revolt. So now when I see like kind
- 32:40Speaker 2: of like, all right, I'm glad that they're like balllert
- 32:43Speaker 2: is occupying its own space because I feel like, at
- 32:45Speaker 2: one point there were so many other blogs that took off,
- 32:48Speaker 2: and ball Alert wasn't at the forefront, and now I
- 32:49Speaker 2: feel like, not only are they back in the conversation,
- 32:52Speaker 2: but I think what y'all are doing with this podcast
- 32:54Speaker 2: makes it so different than what the other blogs are doing.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Even if they have shows, I mean share, they have
- 33:00Speaker 2: content that they do.
- 33:00Speaker 4: But our boys and boy, yeah they have.
- 33:03Speaker 2: They have content that they do, but like this is different,
- 33:05Speaker 2: like and and it's because y'all come from radio and
- 33:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 33:09Speaker 4: They yeah, they do. I think one of them right,
- 33:12Speaker 4: sometimes they do separate things.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm proud of you guys too, That's
- 33:16Speaker 1: what I'm saying.
- 33:17Speaker 7: You and you killing the man. We had so much
- 33:20Speaker 7: fun in Vegas at the iHeart View.
- 33:26Speaker 4: They lied to me. They lied to me at work
- 33:30Speaker 4: and I didn't go because.
- 33:31Speaker 5: They all you missed out.
- 33:35Speaker 4: I was supposed to go, and I had a remote
- 33:38Speaker 4: to be remote.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Okay, got you like the show?
- 33:45Speaker 5: She said, what's the remote?
- 33:48Speaker 4: You know funny thing I wanted to always tell you.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Do you remember when I called you and we was talking.
- 33:52Speaker 4: I forgot we was talking about and oh you was
- 33:55Speaker 4: was coming to Atlanta and I was like, We're not
- 33:57Speaker 4: gonna be here, We're going to born to show.
- 33:59Speaker 5: He was like, to go to the morning. It was
- 34:01Speaker 5: so fun.
- 34:02Speaker 4: I stopped.
- 34:02Speaker 5: It was so fun.
- 34:04Speaker 4: You're on the you're on the platform. We want to
- 34:06Speaker 4: be at No, but we're new the I was like,
- 34:12Speaker 4: don't listen to him.
- 34:13Speaker 7: You should have went because it's a couple of guys
- 34:16Speaker 7: that we're doing mornings.
- 34:18Speaker 5: And then now those guys.
- 34:20Speaker 4: Now, yeah, definitely, it's August sixth, it's gonna be No,
- 34:25Speaker 4: it's gonna be in Cleveland this year, just six in Cleveland.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I'm asked about it, but yeah, when you told me that,
- 34:30Speaker 2: I was like, I said to them.
- 34:32Speaker 5: Like why, just like why why ain't And it was fun.
- 34:35Speaker 1: That was like, because it's like it's school for morning radio.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Why wouldn't send us?
- 34:40Speaker 4: But damn, that's crazy. I was gonna say, when you go,
- 34:44Speaker 4: should you go? It's just everybody like us in the
- 34:46Speaker 4: in the room, we were talking all day.
- 34:51Speaker 7: A lot of people was being transparent to like. It
- 34:53Speaker 7: was like people was really speaking their mind.
- 34:56Speaker 4: I was like, friends, and we got friends, but they
- 34:58Speaker 4: don't really understand us. When you go to that, yeah,
- 35:02Speaker 4: everyone understands you. It was the dopest, dopest moment.
- 35:06Speaker 2: That's the only thing sometimes that I wish that like
- 35:10Speaker 2: we kind of had. I feel like y'all are like
- 35:12Speaker 2: entrenched in radio and like, you know, the personalities and
- 35:14Speaker 2: stuff I'm meeting because I go to I go. I
- 35:17Speaker 2: don't call them remotes, but I try and do all
- 35:19Speaker 2: the events that I can do, Like someone invite me somewhere,
- 35:22Speaker 2: because I'd be wanting to meet the other people, like
- 35:24Speaker 2: even the people within our station across like the other
- 35:27Speaker 2: time slides. But I feel like y'all are intrenching because
- 35:29Speaker 2: y'all came up and radio, so y'all know personalities here
- 35:32Speaker 2: and over there or travel. It's like that with me
- 35:34Speaker 2: and TV or like just journalists people like we travel.
- 35:37Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, we travel a lot.
- 35:38Speaker 7: So and then when we travel a lot, what you
- 35:40Speaker 7: have started realizing a lot of people actually want to
- 35:43Speaker 7: meet you because these people are looking at certain people positions,
- 35:46Speaker 7: and I'm like, man, do y'all go through this or you know,
- 35:50Speaker 7: do you have to deal with that?
- 35:51Speaker 5: Or what do I do in this situation? And how
- 35:53Speaker 5: do I get past this?
- 35:54Speaker 1: So it's feel comfortable talking about all that across the.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Yeah, because it's like it's like he's on the actual context.
- 36:01Speaker 5: I don't give a damn if you need some advice,
- 36:03Speaker 5: I'm gonna give you some advice.
- 36:05Speaker 2: I mean general advice, but I mean like y'all in
- 36:07Speaker 2: there talking about like what's happening at your station, like.
- 36:11Speaker 7: Because like I'll no, but people people would tell you
- 36:15Speaker 7: like some of their struggles that they're going through, like
- 36:17Speaker 7: like hurdles, and then that'd be like damn, like what
- 36:20Speaker 7: did you ever go through that? Or you might be like, yeah, hell,
- 36:23Speaker 7: y'all went through that? How do I deal with this scenario?
- 36:26Speaker 7: That's like that's how the Morning show bootcampt Like a
- 36:28Speaker 7: lot of personalities are in smaller markets, which.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Is a lot of them in smaller and then they
- 36:34Speaker 4: go there to you know, for some fellowship.
- 36:37Speaker 5: Got you that's a good that's a good way they
- 36:39Speaker 5: go for fellowship.
- 36:40Speaker 4: No, it's really real, Like I never met so many
- 36:43Speaker 4: radio personalities in the same place because BT Awards were
- 36:47Speaker 4: around each other.
- 36:48Speaker 5: But everyone's working, but everybody's the big fish, Like.
- 36:54Speaker 1: I don't like that type of stuff.
- 36:55Speaker 4: Are you gonna be there?
- 36:57Speaker 2: But like see, I'm I'm still like a fan of
- 36:59Speaker 2: every thing. And I'm always like that because like I
- 37:02Speaker 2: really am fascinated at like watching people and like their
- 37:06Speaker 2: growth and like things that they're doing. So when I
- 37:08Speaker 2: got to the media room, I'm like, yo, like I
- 37:11Speaker 2: want to meet that was my first time meeting like
- 37:12Speaker 2: Bootleg Cav for real, And I'm like I watch all
- 37:14Speaker 2: his interviews, like nice to meet you. Then like I'm
- 37:16Speaker 2: seeing like you know, Cosmic Cav And these are people
- 37:19Speaker 2: I grew up on the radio listenings and I didn't
- 37:22Speaker 2: really understand the importance of like the personalities and the
- 37:24Speaker 2: shows until now I'm on radio and I'm like, oh, okay,
- 37:28Speaker 2: So when I get with these people, I'm like, it's
- 37:30Speaker 2: a whole different level of respect now because I'm in it,
- 37:33Speaker 2: so I understand the how hard it is to really
- 37:37Speaker 2: establish a name that has lasted across generations on a
- 37:40Speaker 2: radio station.
- 37:41Speaker 7: Like you know, my favorite thing when we do go
- 37:44Speaker 7: to places like BT is like telling people we collab
- 37:47Speaker 7: because I feel like a lot of people in radio
- 37:49Speaker 7: are afraid to collab for whatever reason.
- 37:51Speaker 5: But when you see streamers or podcasters, everybody's collabing.
- 37:56Speaker 7: Yeah, if you really think about it, radio personalities are
- 37:59Speaker 7: the only talent that don't collapse.
- 38:00Speaker 2: That's what it's because, right, I mean, I don't know,
- 38:03Speaker 2: but isn't it because like you have your like we're ieheart,
- 38:06Speaker 2: We're like, so we're here.
- 38:08Speaker 1: But then it's a lot of competition, like you, I.
- 38:10Speaker 7: Mean, but everybody has like I feel like everybody has
- 38:13Speaker 7: their side show, right, Like everybody has like something on
- 38:18Speaker 7: the side.
- 38:18Speaker 5: That they're doing for content.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Okay, so you see what I'm saying.
- 38:21Speaker 7: So like when we meet these guys, I'm always like, yo,
- 38:23Speaker 7: let's collapse, let's do something like.
- 38:26Speaker 5: That's how I always think.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Now why I really rock with Envy though you know,
- 38:29Speaker 4: I've only I haven't really got a chance to really
- 38:31Speaker 4: sit down and talk to Show the man, because every
- 38:33Speaker 4: time I see him it's in a very rushed, such space.
- 38:37Speaker 4: But we've always we've had a lot of time to
- 38:39Speaker 4: talk to Envy.
- 38:39Speaker 5: So Charla cool as hell too.
- 38:42Speaker 4: No, no, yeah, it was cool. But the times that
- 38:45Speaker 4: I've talked to Envy, Envy be giving us the whole
- 38:48Speaker 4: give you the game. I appreciate it.
- 38:52Speaker 1: When I tell y'all, like it's like artists development two
- 38:55Speaker 1: point oh.
- 38:56Speaker 2: I don't even think they look at it that way,
- 38:58Speaker 2: but like I always look at it like you're not
- 39:01Speaker 2: like an artist, it's signed to it at.
- 39:02Speaker 1: All, not at all, But they care about that they.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Care about their show though, right, And also I feel
- 39:07Speaker 2: like they've been able to amass a certain level of
- 39:10Speaker 2: success that like it's unheard of it for black people
- 39:14Speaker 2: at the forefront of certain radio shows. They they're really
- 39:17Speaker 2: big on, Like I want to make sure you're able
- 39:19Speaker 2: to do that too. And here's everything that like I
- 39:21Speaker 2: experienced that if I had known this, I would have
- 39:24Speaker 2: done this. But here's also everything I did well. So yeah,
- 39:27Speaker 2: like they're so honest about that, and that's the biggest
- 39:30Speaker 2: thing that I appreciate too. Like I feel like I
- 39:31Speaker 2: didn't just get a job, I got a family.
- 39:33Speaker 4: Okay, now, question I have not how did I have jokes?
- 39:37Speaker 4: Why does Charla Bay keep saying Envy is Dominican.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Because he is no for real, you know, he'd be
- 39:46Speaker 1: DJing at the parades and stuff.
- 39:50Speaker 4: But MV says he's one hundred percent black. His mom
- 39:53Speaker 4: and dad are black.
- 39:54Speaker 1: You know how that go, like when you're a little mixed.
- 39:56Speaker 1: So he's it just depends on who Dominican. You never
- 39:59Speaker 1: met been around people and depend on who they around
- 40:01Speaker 1: the claim, right.
- 40:04Speaker 4: Yeah, but so you know for a fact, Envy is
- 40:08Speaker 4: like part Dominican.
- 40:09Speaker 1: It's somewhere there. Look at him.
- 40:11Speaker 4: It's somewhere in there.
- 40:13Speaker 1: When he's dressed up, he gives he owns.
- 40:15Speaker 4: Like you'll stop, you gotta stop. He said he's black.
- 40:22Speaker 4: If he's black, you got to go off of his word.
- 40:24Speaker 5: He's just like skin.
- 40:25Speaker 2: But you know how we all grew up in like
- 40:27Speaker 2: black Dominican I mean growing up in the same community,
- 40:32Speaker 2: so it kind of like, just.
- 40:34Speaker 1: No, he's black. Okay, okay, okay, It's crazy that people
- 40:37Speaker 1: really believe.
- 40:39Speaker 4: Yeah, believe the topic.
- 40:41Speaker 1: People know, but people really believe it.
- 40:43Speaker 4: Okay, okay, all right, Well listen, man, we just want
- 40:45Speaker 4: to give your flowers. Man, you're doing an amazing job
- 40:48Speaker 4: out here. Let's talk about Brown Girl Grinding because he
- 40:50Speaker 4: just yes with your podcast.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Yes, So my podcast is Brown Grinding is the production company,
- 40:56Speaker 2: and we have a you know, a presence online. It's
- 40:58Speaker 2: kind of like a blog space like the Chat but

- 41:15Speaker 2: and stuff back i'd be like this, many people are
- 41:17Speaker 2: listening to me.
- 41:19Speaker 1: The power of the Breakfast Club.
- 41:20Speaker 2: I'm trying to tell you, like, yeah, now I'm trying
- 41:22Speaker 2: to like get more consistent on the video side.
- 41:24Speaker 1: That's my goal within these next like two to three months.
- 41:26Speaker 1: And ain't nobody in my way.
- 41:27Speaker 4: But you got to work though. You got so much
- 41:29Speaker 4: work you got going on.
- 41:30Speaker 1: So I can figure it out.
- 41:31Speaker 4: Yes, I can figure it out.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Nothing is impossible. I can figure it out.
- 41:34Speaker 2: But yes. So the Latest with Lorna Rosa it's a
- 41:36Speaker 2: Monday through Friday show. We drop every morning between six
- 41:40Speaker 2: and seven am and six am on good days, and
- 41:43Speaker 2: it's a it's what I do on the Breakfast Club,
- 41:45Speaker 2: but it's just me, so you get to really hear
- 41:46Speaker 2: my personality. I kind of like podcasts like a vlogger
- 41:50Speaker 2: because you know, by nature, I'm a vlogger. That's where
- 41:53Speaker 2: I was doing for so long. So like I feel
- 41:55Speaker 2: like I take my listeners, I call them the low riders,
- 41:57Speaker 2: like I take them on the.
- 41:57Speaker 4: Journey with me.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Yeah, because they know because to begin into the podcast,
- 42:01Speaker 2: when everybody was coming for me, like all the old
- 42:03Speaker 2: aunts that like sit back and just you know, when
- 42:06Speaker 2: they was mad and like whatever. They were like, no,
- 42:10Speaker 2: like this our nie, and you ain't about to play
- 42:12Speaker 2: with her. And I'm like, yo, y'all be riding for me.
- 42:14Speaker 2: And one day I was asking the asking the audience
- 42:16Speaker 2: like YO, tweet me and let me know what y'all
- 42:17Speaker 2: want to be called.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Somebody was like, what about Lowriders?
- 42:19Speaker 2: And I'm like I like that because they really be
- 42:21Speaker 2: coming to my defense.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Like certain things I don't even have to like address.
- 42:25Speaker 2: I don't address up anyway for real, but they I
- 42:27Speaker 2: don't have to because my audience is so like, this
- 42:30Speaker 2: is godshawd, you ain't about to play with her and
- 42:32Speaker 2: we ain't even about to go to war about It's
- 42:33Speaker 2: nothing to even talk about. So yeah, So the Low Riders,
- 42:36Speaker 2: it's like eight million plus downloads on the audio side now.
- 42:39Speaker 2: So that's why I think it's important to build out
- 42:41Speaker 2: the video because I want I want people to like
- 42:43Speaker 2: visually see it more. I feel like that's like such
- 42:45Speaker 2: a great marketing tool for podcasts, and the video podcasts
- 42:49Speaker 2: are like we're on Netflix, like you know, a market
- 42:52Speaker 2: for it.
- 42:53Speaker 4: So I'm like, and the facial recognition that you get because.
- 42:55Speaker 1: I got to build this video up.
- 42:57Speaker 4: Yeah, the facial recognition that you get from the clips
- 43:00Speaker 4: to Netflix and all that. Man, we're just proud of
- 43:02Speaker 4: you man, because I actually saw you start on the
- 43:06Speaker 4: Breakfast Club and to where you're at now, it's just amazing.
