Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Baby, get the book.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: That's how it started.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Mom would say it from the bed.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: And I'd stand there because I didn't know which book she was talking about.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Liza Nicole, and this is Heart Copy Journal.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Today, my grandmother, a book I didn't know how to find.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: And a psalm I read out loud to her over and over without understanding a single word.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: When my grandmother was in hospice, I went to see her every day and it or as close to every day as I could.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: And every time she'd say, Baby, get the book and read to me.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: The first time I had to work it out like the book.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, the Bible?
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Like I took it down and she said, Read Psalms 91 to me.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: I knew nothing about the Bible.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: I didn't know a psalm from a proverb.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: So I'm flipping through it again and again.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Where is Psalms 91?
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: I went to the table of contents, I flipped, I flipped, and finally found it.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: The room is kind of cold.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Smells a bit because we were like in this twin single bed hospice room.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And here's the thing.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: I had no idea really what she needed.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And really what I was reading about.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: But it meant something very important to Mama.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: I could tell even without knowing why.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: I didn't really understand she was going through.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: I didn't understand it, but she did.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: And there was a comfort that I couldn't provide her with my presence.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: But she was very clear about what she needed.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: She knew exactly how I could help.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: So I go and get the word and I'd read to her.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: What I understand now is that it was a seed.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: She had planted it for me long before I knew even what it was.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: It was being cultivated in the middle of her adversity in the hospice and at the end of her life.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: I thought I was holding a book, and she was the one who knew what was in it.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: But Psalms ninety one was a love letter from my heavenly father.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: He gave to my grandmother, and now I give to you.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: He who dwells in the shelter of the most high will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: I will say of the Lord, You are my refuge, my fortress, my God in whom I trust.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Surely he will dwell, deliver you, surely he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly plague.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: He will cover you with his feathers under his wings.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: You will find refuge.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: His faithfulness is a shelter and a rampart.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: This week's verse in Psalms ninety one, write it slowly.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Let it read you.
