- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo, episode 221. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. So, Lucas, last time we talked about Oktoberfest, right? Lucas: Yes, we did. That was fun. But today, let's go somewhere a bit quieter. The farmers market. Luna: Oh, I love farmers markets. Fresh fruit, fresh vegetables. Good stuff. Lucas: Exactly. And in Germany, you'll find them in almost every town. So today we're getting some phrases to use at the farmers market. Luna: Great. What's first? Lucas: Let's start with something fresh. The word for strawberries is Erdbeeren. So if you see a stall with fresh strawberries, you can say frische Erdbeeren. Luna: Frische Erdbeeren. Lucas: Slowly: frische Erdbeeren. And again: frische Erdbeeren. Luna: Frische Erdbeeren. That means fresh strawberries. Love it. Lucas: Yes. And let's use it. Imagine you see them and you want to buy some. You say Ich hätte gern ein Kilo. That means I would like one kilo. Luna: Ich hätte gern ein Kilo. Lucas: Ich hätte gern ein Kilo. Luna: Ich hätte gern ein Kilo. So polite. Lucas: It is. Now, what if you want to taste before you buy? Luna: Good point. Lucas: You can ask Kann ich probieren? That means Can I try? Luna: Kann ich probieren? Lucas: Kann ich probieren? Luna: Kann ich probieren? Perfect for sampling. Lucas: Yeah. And then, sometimes the price is a bit high. So you might say Das ist aber teuer. That means That's expensive, though. Luna: Das ist aber teuer. Lucas: Das ist aber teuer. Luna: Das ist aber teuer. I can imagine saying that. Lucas: Right. But if you decide to buy it anyway, you say Ich nehme es. That means I'll take it. Luna: Ich nehme es. Lucas: Ich nehme es. Luna: Ich nehme es. And then you're done. Lucas: Exactly. Let's put these all together in a little scene. You're at the market, you see a stand with strawberries. You say frische Erdbeeren. Luna: Frische Erdbeeren. Lucas: Then you ask for a kilo: Ich hätte gern ein Kilo. Luna: Ich hätte gern ein Kilo. Lucas: You taste one and say Kann ich probieren? Luna: Kann ich probieren? Lucas: If the price is high, you can say Das ist aber teuer. Luna: Das ist aber teuer. Lucas: But you want them, so you say Ich nehme es. Luna: Ich nehme es. That's a full conversation. Lucas: So, Luna, when you go to a farmers market, what's the first thing you say? Luna: Probably frische Erdbeeren, because I love strawberries. Lucas: And if you want a kilo? Luna: Ich hätte gern ein Kilo. Lucas: Perfect. And if they say the price is five euros, you might go...? Luna: Das ist aber teuer. Lucas: But you still want them. Luna: Ich nehme es. Lucas: You're ready for the market. Luna: That was actually fun. These phrases are really useful. Lucas: And that's what Fexingo is all about. Real phrases, real situations, so you can actually use them. Luna: Totally. And I know we say this sometimes, but if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with your German, there's a simple way to keep it going. Lucas: Yeah. But no pressure, we're just grateful you're here. Lucas: Alright, let's do one more round. Repeat after me: frische Erdbeeren. Luna: Frische Erdbeeren. Lucas: Ich hätte gern ein Kilo. Luna: Ich hätte gern ein Kilo. Lucas: Kann ich probieren? Luna: Kann ich probieren? Lucas: Das ist aber teuer. Luna: Das ist aber teuer. Lucas: Ich nehme es. Luna: Ich nehme es. Lucas: Fantastic. Now, if you're at the market and you want to ask where the apples are, you might use something from a previous episode. Wo ist? Remember? Luna: Wo ist der Apfel? Lucas: Close. Wo ist die Äpfel? No, that's not right. Actually, it's Wo sind die Äpfel? Because apples is plural. Luna: Oh, right. Wo sind die Äpfel? Lucas: That's a nice bonus. But today's phrases are the five we practiced. Feel free to go back and repeat them. Luna: I will. Practice makes perfect. Lucas: That's it for today. Thanks for joining us on Learn German with Fexingo. Practice these till we chat again. Luna: Bye for now.
