Latest / The 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson / El-Sayed Hit With New Terror Tie Questions and the Story the Media won't Chase
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So your mother had no ties? I have never had
- 0:02Speaker 1: these conversations with my mother. I wasn't raised by my mother.
- 0:05Speaker 1: So you were unaware? But I'm just telling you that, like,
- 0:08Speaker 1: you're using hearsay evidence from a tweet. This is not serious.
- 0:11Speaker 2: This is not serious.
- 0:11Speaker 1: But you've also gone after the president for truthfulness. You've
- 0:14Speaker 1: also gone after the president for truthfulness. So when people
- 0:16Speaker 1: ask you a question, they all do expect the truth.
- 0:17Speaker 1: And do you think, are you insinuating that somehow I
- 0:20Speaker 1: was lying? I don't know. That's why I'm asking. And
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm telling you I was not.
- 0:23Speaker 2: You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Good Friday morning. So nice to have you with us
- 0:29Speaker 1: on the 47 Morning Update. And we've got two big
- 0:31Speaker 1: stories for you. First up, a lot of you have
- 0:34Speaker 1: heard the name El-Said. The question is, who's funding his
- 0:38Speaker 1: massive campaign? We're now learning about the radicals who are
- 0:42Speaker 1: sending him money and what their thoughts are about the
- 0:45Speaker 1: United States of America is going to scare the heck
- 0:48Speaker 1: out of you. We've got it for you in just
- 0:49Speaker 1: a moment. Up next after that, El Sayed is also
- 0:52Speaker 1: in serious hot water for lying to NBC News about
- 0:56Speaker 1: his ties and his family ties to a terrorist organization.
- 1:00Speaker 1: What organization is it and what did he have to say?
- 1:02Speaker 1: We have that for you as well as the president,
- 1:05Speaker 1: Donald Trump, calls him out. Now, before we get to that,
- 1:08Speaker 1: a flag can say what words sometimes can't. We remember,
- 1:12Speaker 1: we stand with you. You are not alone. This year,
- 1:15Speaker 1: the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews brought that message
- 1:19Speaker 1: to the world through its third annual Flags of Fellowship initiative.
- 1:24Speaker 1: It's something I have been a part of, and it's
- 1:26Speaker 1: truly incredible. More than 4,300 churches, synagogues, and universities across
- 1:32Speaker 1: 17 different countries participated, planting over 5 million Israeli flags
- 1:38Speaker 1: to remember the lives lost on October 7th and stand
- 1:41Speaker 1: with the Jewish people. Think about that. Millions of flags,
- 1:45Speaker 1: one powerful promise. We'll not turn our backs on you.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And that promise must continue long after the flags come down.
- 1:52Speaker 1: For someone who's hungry, who's frightened, or in need of
- 1:56Speaker 1: medical care, your support makes a massive difference. And that
- 2:00Speaker 1: promise is real. Your gift today can help deliver life-saving food.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I've done this in Israel. There are many that are homebound,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and without the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews delivering
- 2:12Speaker 1: that food, there's no one else there to fill that void.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Not only do they help with food, but also shelter
- 2:17Speaker 1: and medical aid to the most vulnerable in Israel. You
- 2:22Speaker 1: can bring help and be a part of the solution.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And you can also let the people of Israel know
- 2:26Speaker 1: that Americans stand with Israel and the Jewish people. Let
- 2:31Speaker 1: them see that our commitment reaches far beyond the flags.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Visit www.joinfof.org and give today. That's joinfof.org. It's the 47
- 2:45Speaker 1: Morning Update, and it starts right now.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Story number one.
- 2:49Speaker 1: So there's a big question that is coming out of Michigan,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and it deals with El-Sayed. The leftist Muslim U.S. Senate candidate,
- 2:57Speaker 1: Abdul El-Sayed, failed to deny receiving money from leftist billionaire
- 3:02Speaker 1: George Soros or terrorist groups during a debate with his opponent, U.S.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Senate candidate Mike Rogers. Now, this was not reported by
- 3:11Speaker 1: the media, which is why I think it's important that
- 3:13Speaker 1: we talk about it. Now, Al-Said accused Rogers of stock
- 3:17Speaker 1: trading when he was in Congress and claimed he failed
- 3:19Speaker 1: himself does not own stock before failing to deny receiving
- 3:24Speaker 1: money from Soros or literal terrorists. I'm not joking. Literal terrorists. Quote,
- 3:29Speaker 1: I'm not trying to make myself rich off my job
- 3:32Speaker 1: in public service. This guy has done exactly that. 14 million.
- 3:36Speaker 1: That's what he made when he left Congress doing the
- 3:39Speaker 1: work for the corporations he had just previously been regulating,
- 3:43Speaker 1: who had bought him off when he was in Congress
- 3:45Speaker 1: in the first place, Al-Said stated. Rogers? He was more
- 3:49Speaker 1: than prepared. He countered his comments by saying they were
- 3:52Speaker 1: offensive and it was a lie that he ever traded stocks.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So that means you're bought off by George Soros' family.
- 3:59Speaker 1: That means you're bought off by Hamas. He responded, bought
- 4:02Speaker 1: off by Hezbollah, bought off by Al-Qaeda. Those people who
- 4:05Speaker 1: are supporting you pour that money into your campaign. You
- 4:09Speaker 1: begged Chuck Schumer, begged Chuck Schumer. Matter of fact, you
- 4:12Speaker 1: had to sneak by the trash cans in the back
- 4:15Speaker 1: of the building to beg for that money. So here's
- 4:17Speaker 1: the guy to send money out of politics until it
- 4:20Speaker 1: gets shoved into his pockets. That absolutely tells you who
- 4:24Speaker 1: he is, Rogers stated. Now, Rogers is a guy that,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and I think it's important you hear part of this
- 4:30Speaker 1: debate because I think this was a defining moment in
- 4:33Speaker 1: this campaign.
- 4:34Speaker 3: So that means you're bought off by George Soros' family.
- 4:37Speaker 3: That means that you're bought off by Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda,
- 4:42Speaker 3: those people who are supporting you, pour that money into
- 4:44Speaker 3: your campaign. You begged Chuck Schumer, begged Chuck Schumer. Matter
- 4:48Speaker 3: of fact, you had to sneak by the trash cans
- 4:51Speaker 3: in the back of the building to beg for that money.
- 4:54Speaker 3: So here's the guy to send money out of politics
- 4:56Speaker 3: until it gets to shove into his pocket. That tells you,
- 5:00Speaker 3: that tells you, that absolutely tells you who he is.
- 5:04Speaker 3: The guy on his staff that said he will say
- 5:06Speaker 3: anything to get elected is and tell you one thing
- 5:09Speaker 3: one time and another the next time.
- 5:10Speaker 1: He's a manufactured candidate. We've come to the end of
- 5:13Speaker 1: our discussion. I love that moment because this heated debate came,
- 5:18Speaker 1: I really think, as America has to decide something. What
- 5:21Speaker 1: are we going to do in these midterm elections? Are
- 5:23Speaker 1: we going to go the way... of the socialist Marxist communists,
- 5:28Speaker 1: the candidates that are backed by the radicals in Hamas
- 5:33Speaker 1: and Hezbollah? Or are we going to go with America first? Now,
- 5:37Speaker 1: Fox News also reported in August that, quote, a Senate
- 5:40Speaker 1: counterterrorism expert testified that the Michigan Democratic Senate nominee, Abdul El-Sayed, said,
- 5:47Speaker 1: candidacy raises homeland security concerns because his family's ties to
- 5:51Speaker 1: the Muslim Brotherhood link groups and connections to the Midwest
- 5:55Speaker 1: Voter Engagement Organization that experts said is tied to the
- 5:59Speaker 1: Council on American Islamic Relations. You know it as CARE. El-Said,
- 6:04Speaker 1: by the way, it is a fact, has accepted hundreds
- 6:08Speaker 1: of thousands of dollars from terrorist organizations and Rogers in
- 6:12Speaker 1: September pressed him to return that money. Now, let's go
- 6:16Speaker 1: back to just the money part of this, because I
- 6:19Speaker 1: think this is also important. When Mike Rogers called out
- 6:22Speaker 1: Al-Said to return donations from terrorist organizations, he didn't return
- 6:27Speaker 1: the money. Why? Because it's one of the core financiers
- 6:30Speaker 1: of his campaign. And Al-Said has, in fact, accepted hundreds
- 6:34Speaker 1: of thousands of dollars from terrorist organizations, and he won't
- 6:37Speaker 1: say that's a lie. Quote, I guess when Abdul claims
- 6:41Speaker 1: he wants money out of politics, he doesn't count terrorist organizations.
- 6:44Speaker 1: As a former army officer and house intelligence chair, Rogers said,
- 6:48Speaker 1: I spent my life fighting to defeat terrorist organizations. Abdul
- 6:51Speaker 1: cashes checks from them. He's absolutely right. Rogers added that
- 6:56Speaker 1: it is absolutely disqualifying and an insult to the brave
- 6:59Speaker 1: men and women who risked their lives in service to
- 7:01Speaker 1: this great country. Abdul returned the money. Now, on its website,
- 7:05Speaker 1: Rogers doubled down on the claim and had the list.
- 7:09Speaker 1: The money donated to him from terrorist organizations, including the
- 7:12Speaker 1: Council on American Islamic Relations and the Muslim Brotherhood. This includes,
- 7:16Speaker 1: he said, nearly 130,000 from donors who identified connections to
- 7:20Speaker 1: CARE and alleged Hamas-linked groups, a designated terrorist organization in
- 7:25Speaker 1: multiple states. The donations came from over 41 staff. or
- 7:30Speaker 1: board members, including National Board Chair, the National Board Treasurer,
- 7:34Speaker 1: the National Board Vice Chair, and the Michigan Board member
- 7:38Speaker 1: of the organization. Abdul Al-Sid's father-in-law, by the way, has
- 7:42Speaker 1: donated more than $ 300, 000 to his super PAC. He is
- 7:46Speaker 1: a top leader of the Muslim Brotherhood organization linked to
- 7:50Speaker 1: terror funding in and is the president of CARE Michigan.
- 7:54Speaker 1: That's his father-in-law. Now, the site adds $ 7, 000 from Aman Barakat,
- 8:01Speaker 1: who's the chair of Al-Awada. a group that supports dismantling, quote,
- 8:07Speaker 1: the U.S. military, as well as the Unity and Justice Fund,
- 8:12Speaker 1: the super PAC controlled and funded by CARE's lobbying arm,
- 8:15Speaker 1: which claimed credit for helping Abdul win the Democratic primary, which,
- 8:20Speaker 1: of course, he says, I don't know, I'm not a
- 8:21Speaker 1: part of the Muslim Brotherhood. One of the other things
- 8:24Speaker 1: that was said by Rogers, and I think it's an
- 8:26Speaker 1: important point, is he said, quote, this is not about
- 8:28Speaker 1: anyone's fate. This is about judgment. It's about transparency and
- 8:32Speaker 1: who is financing a candidate for the United States. The
- 8:35Speaker 1: El-Said campaign is more than just about a single U.S.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Senate seat in the same way that Mandani's mayoral campaign
- 8:42Speaker 1: was more than just about who would be the next
- 8:44Speaker 1: mayor of New York City. As is always the case
- 8:47Speaker 1: with the political left, this is really about attempting to
- 8:49Speaker 1: normalize a form of anti-American, anti-Western extremism that even Democrats
- 8:57Speaker 1: would have rejected 20 years ago. That is how Mike
- 9:01Speaker 1: Rogers put it, saying this is Obama 2.0. The use
- 9:05Speaker 1: of charismatic cutouts like Mondami and El-Said to cloak a
- 9:11Speaker 1: dangerous radicalism That will further undermine Western and classically liberal values.
- 9:19Speaker 1: For years, by the way, he says Elside didn't even
- 9:21Speaker 1: try to hide where his allegiance stood. He has since
- 9:24Speaker 1: deleted this tweet. But here's what he wrote on September
- 9:28Speaker 1: the 11th of 2021. Today, I mourn the 3,000 lives.
- 9:30Speaker 1: 6,000 injuries, and infrastructural devastation in New York City, perpetrated
- 9:39Speaker 1: ignorantly in the name of my faith. Then he said this,
- 9:42Speaker 1: tomorrow I'll mourn one million lives, millions of injuries, and
- 9:47Speaker 1: infrastructural devastation in three countries, perpetrated ignorantly in the name
- 9:52Speaker 1: of my country, clearly referring to the United States of America.
- 9:55Speaker 1: El-Said said the following during a podcast the same year, saying, quote,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I think the more appropriate way to center this conversation
- 10:02Speaker 1: is in telling the broader global story about the conduct
- 10:05Speaker 1: of the United States and what followed. Does that sound
- 10:08Speaker 1: like a guy that Likes America? Does that sound like
- 10:10Speaker 1: a guy that would stand up for America? Or does
- 10:13Speaker 1: this sound like a guy that hates America? And a
- 10:15Speaker 1: guy that is accusing America of some sort of genocide,
- 10:19Speaker 1: of murdering one million lives, of millions of injuries, he says.
- 10:24Speaker 1: He says it was done and perpetrated ignorantly, his words,
- 10:28Speaker 1: in the name of my country. This is a guy
- 10:31Speaker 1: that I would say is an enemy of Western civilization.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I would say that he is an enemy of the
- 10:37Speaker 1: United States of America. And he's trying to act like
- 10:40Speaker 1: he somehow loves America while accusing America of genocide. This
- 10:45Speaker 1: is also the same guy that can't tell you who's worse,
- 10:49Speaker 1: the United States of America or Israel or actual terrorist organizations.
- 10:54Speaker 1: He won't even answer the question about Israel. Which one's worse,
- 10:57Speaker 1: Israel or Iran? When you can't answer a basic moral
- 11:01Speaker 1: question like that, he was asked, which one's a bigger
- 11:04Speaker 1: threat to the United States, Israel or Iran? He couldn't
- 11:08Speaker 1: answer it. Because he truly hates Israel. He hates the Jews.
- 11:12Speaker 1: He also hates, yeah, you guessed it, he hates what
- 11:16Speaker 1: is this country. He hates freedom. He hates what we
- 11:20Speaker 1: believe in. He hates the fact that America stands up
- 11:23Speaker 1: right against wrong. He hates the fact that we stand
- 11:26Speaker 1: up to the Muslim Brotherhood and terrorist organizations that he
- 11:30Speaker 1: is clearly a part of, on the take from. And
- 11:33Speaker 1: he hates the fact that Americans... Well, created the greatest
- 11:37Speaker 1: country in the world. And he wants to destroy it
- 11:39Speaker 1: from within. How do you do it? You do it, apparently,
- 11:42Speaker 1: by becoming a United States senator. That's his goal, folks.
- 11:45Speaker 1: That's his plan.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Next, story number two.
- 11:48Speaker 1: There is a political firestorm that is exploding today in Michigan.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And it involves one of the most consequential Senate races
- 11:55Speaker 1: in all the country. Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is
- 11:59Speaker 1: now facing serious new questions about his family's alleged connections
- 12:03Speaker 1: directly to the terrorist organization, the Muslim Brotherhood. Now, here's
- 12:08Speaker 1: what makes this story even more interesting. Just yesterday. Al-Said
- 12:14Speaker 1: went on national television. He looked at NBC News' Kristen
- 12:18Speaker 1: Welker in the eye and denied that either he or
- 12:21Speaker 1: his family had any ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. It
- 12:25Speaker 1: was a very short, simple question. And, of course, she
- 12:28Speaker 1: did not ask any follow-up questions with any evidence, which
- 12:32Speaker 1: is what she should have done. It was almost a
- 12:35Speaker 1: check the box, let's get out of here, move on
- 12:37Speaker 1: from this controversy thing. And it was almost like NBC
- 12:40Speaker 1: News was literally trying to help him get rid of
- 12:42Speaker 1: this issue. Well, guess what? They did not help him
- 12:45Speaker 1: get rid of it at all. Now, not once, but twice.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And now on social media posts, we are now seeing
- 12:53Speaker 1: that he has been lying based on what his half
- 12:56Speaker 1: sister had put out there. These newly unearthed social media
- 13:00Speaker 1: posts dating back more than a decade have come to light.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And the person who wrote them isn't some, by the way,
- 13:07Speaker 1: Republican opposition research. It isn't Mike Rogers. It isn't Donald Trump.
- 13:11Speaker 1: It is literally El-Said's own half sister. And what she
- 13:15Speaker 1: said about their family is also raising massive questions about
- 13:19Speaker 1: the sweeping denial El-Said just made on national television. Now,
- 13:24Speaker 1: El-Said's campaign is also responding to this breaking news coming
- 13:28Speaker 1: from Fox News. And here's the question. Did they actually
- 13:32Speaker 1: answer the most important part of the controversy? Because this
- 13:35Speaker 1: story is no longer simply about what Mike Rogers is alleging.
- 13:40Speaker 1: It's now about what El-Sayed said, what his sister wrote,
- 13:44Speaker 1: and whether Michigan voters are getting the complete truth out
- 13:47Speaker 1: of El-Sayed. Sunday morning, Abdul El-Sayed appeared on NBC's Meet
- 13:51Speaker 1: the Press, and they gave an amazing interview to him.
- 13:54Speaker 1: They were even asking him questions like, is America ready
- 13:57Speaker 1: for a Muslim president? It was a glowing interview. Now,
- 14:02Speaker 1: this again, I want to be clear. This was not
- 14:04Speaker 1: an ambush interview. El-Sayed said that he knew that there
- 14:08Speaker 1: were allegations involving his family and the mother brotherhood and
- 14:11Speaker 1: had become an issue on the Senate campaign. Days earlier,
- 14:14Speaker 1: he and Mike Rogers, a Republican nominee, they faced off
- 14:18Speaker 1: in a big debate in Grand Rapids, Michigan. During the debate,
- 14:22Speaker 1: Rogers raised questions about Al-Said's family association, his political supporters,
- 14:27Speaker 1: and his alleged connections to organizations that are directly tied
- 14:31Speaker 1: to the Muslim Brotherhood. Now, Al-Said, during the debate, rejected
- 14:34Speaker 1: all that and accused Rogers of targeting him because of his, quote,
- 14:38Speaker 1: Muslim faith. Then comes Sunday morning. Kristen Welker asks Al-Said
- 14:43Speaker 1: directly whether he or members of his family had ties
- 14:46Speaker 1: to the Muslim Brotherhood. His answer, one word, no. Welker
- 14:50Speaker 1: had a very flimsy follow-up to that, and she just
- 14:54Speaker 1: wanted to apparently make absolutely certain that she understood his response,
- 14:58Speaker 1: and just to make it look like she was, you know,
- 14:59Speaker 1: being a journalist. Was he saying his family didn't have
- 15:02Speaker 1: ties to either? Again, El-Sayed answered no. Now, that's really
- 15:07Speaker 1: important in this story. He wasn't simply denying personal membership.
- 15:12Speaker 1: He wasn't limiting his answer to whether he currently associates
- 15:15Speaker 1: with the organization. He was asked about his family, and
- 15:19Speaker 1: he gave the unequivocal denial. Elsay then argued that Rogers
- 15:24Speaker 1: was trying to make voters suspicious of him because of
- 15:27Speaker 1: his name and his religion. Now, a candidate's religion, by
- 15:32Speaker 1: the way... is important. We've looked at this for years.
- 15:35Speaker 1: You can go back to JFK when he was Catholic,
- 15:37Speaker 1: and was it a big deal? You can go back,
- 15:39Speaker 1: another example on the Republican side is Mitt Romney and
- 15:41Speaker 1: him being Mormon. Was it an issue? Yes, it was
- 15:44Speaker 1: with voters. We found that out in the data. So
- 15:47Speaker 1: this is normal. It is normal to ask questions about
- 15:50Speaker 1: what you believe, who you believe in. Do you believe
- 15:52Speaker 1: there's a God? Is it Allah? What is it? That's
- 15:55Speaker 1: all fair game. He says, though, look, we are not
- 16:00Speaker 1: associated with any of these terrorist groups or any of
- 16:01Speaker 1: these groups tied to the Muslim Brotherhood. There's the story. Well,
- 16:07Speaker 1: then someone actually did their job. And when I say
- 16:10Speaker 1: someone actually did their job, the Washington Free Beacon, not
- 16:14Speaker 1: the New York Times, not the Washington Post, not the
- 16:16Speaker 1: New York Times or L.A. Times or anybody else. No, no, no.
- 16:19Speaker 1: The Washington Free Beacon yet again does the job of
- 16:23Speaker 1: journalism that everyone else refuses to do. They uncovered, and
- 16:27Speaker 1: this isn't hard to find, they just did their job,
- 16:30Speaker 1: social media posts attributed to El-Sayed's half-sister. She's an assistant
- 16:35Speaker 1: professor at the University of Chicago. And these posts weren't
- 16:38Speaker 1: written yesterday. They date back to 2012 and 2013. Now
- 16:42Speaker 1: think about that. More than a decade before his Senate campaign,
- 16:46Speaker 1: she was publicly discussing what she described as her family's
- 16:49Speaker 1: relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. One post from
- 16:54Speaker 1: June of 2012 stated, My family has long been MB,
- 17:00Speaker 1: Muslim Brotherhood. Now, MB is a common abbreviation for the
- 17:04Speaker 1: Muslim Brotherhood. She didn't stop there, by the way. In
- 17:07Speaker 1: another post, she discussed her mother's activism in the Muslim
- 17:10Speaker 1: Brotherhood while attending college in Egypt during the early 1970s.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Then again in July of 2013, she wrote about having
- 17:20Speaker 1: family members jailed because of their involvement with the Muslim Brotherhood.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Does that sound like a family that has no connections
- 17:27Speaker 1: or ties to the Muslim Brotherhood? It certainly doesn't to me.
- 17:30Speaker 1: She also expressed concerns for relatives who support the Muslim
- 17:33Speaker 1: Brotherhood in Egypt. Now, you put all that in context,
- 17:38Speaker 1: consider the significance. These weren't statements from a Republican campaign.
- 17:42Speaker 1: They weren't anonymous allegations posted online during an election. They
- 17:47Speaker 1: were statement attributed to someone in El-Sayed's own family discussing
- 17:52Speaker 1: what she described as a family history of involvement within
- 17:56Speaker 1: the Muslim Brotherhood. And also, they were made years before
- 18:01Speaker 1: El-Sayed became a major national political figure, right? Where there'd
- 18:04Speaker 1: be more safety in saying these things because they probably
- 18:06Speaker 1: didn't think he was going to be running for, you know,
- 18:08Speaker 1: the Senate. Now, that is the backdrop for what I'm
- 18:12Speaker 1: about to play for you, all right? Rogers' campaign did
- 18:17Speaker 1: something that was very brilliant. They put out a minute
- 18:19Speaker 1: campaign ad, paid for by Mike Rogers. And Mike Rogers
- 18:24Speaker 1: put this out saying, quote, Abdul El-Said's family has, quote,
- 18:31Speaker 1: a long been Muslim brotherhood. OK, he's using their words
- 18:36Speaker 1: has long been Muslim brotherhood. He then said Abdul needs
- 18:41Speaker 1: to be honest with Michiganders about he and his family's
- 18:45Speaker 1: ties to terrorism. So that is a statement from Mike Rogers.
- 18:50Speaker 1: The ad is put out and I'm going to play
- 18:52Speaker 1: it for you.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Listen.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Have you set the record straight about whether you or
- 18:58Speaker 1: your family have any ties to the Muslim Brotherhood?
- 19:00Speaker 3: No.
- 19:01Speaker 2: No, you don't have any ties?

- 20:27Speaker 1: to just try to act like this ad didn't come out,
- 20:30Speaker 1: that this didn't happen, that this is a non-issue. And
