- 2:00He's still the assistant to the governor. Larry Packet was going to be
- 2:02running for state treasurer and he's made that announcement a couple of days ago on
- 2:07talk line with Dave Wilson, who's in for Hoppy. I get the visit
- 2:10from a mister pack today. He's going to be joined us a little bit
- 2:13later on in the show. Also, our friend Tim Brady from the Charleston
- 2:15Convention and Visitors Bureau will stop by. A lot of folks are heading into
- 2:20Charleston over the next week or so forth. A big event that's going actually
- 2:23a couple of big events going on, but one in particular it's bringing people.
- 2:28It's volleyball and it's bringing people literally from all over the country for this
- 2:30thing. Tim's going to break that down for us. But I want to
- 2:34welcome into the show now current West Virginia Secretary of State in Canada for Governor
- 2:37Mac Warner. Good morning, Sarah, how are you? Good morning?
- 2:39How'm wonderful, great to be with you. Thank you for being here.
- 2:43I want to talk Secretary of State business before we get into your campaign for
- 2:46governor. Now you're at the Greenbrier. Understand now, preparing for the annual
- 2:49Business Summit sponsored by the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce. What are you expecting
- 2:53to learn down there or what are you taking part in? Well, first
- 2:55of all, right, now I'm not asked de greed. Okay, I'm
- 2:58sorry, I'm staying in Louisburg. But yes, the summit is starting today
- 3:01at the Green Bay. Yes, yes, my fault, my fault.
- 3:05Well, that's right, and I just wanted to let you know that this
- 3:08is the first time that well, this is where a business leaders from all
- 3:13over the state. I think they're twelve hundred and twelve undred. They were
- 3:15talking about some new records perhaps in attendance. That's showing the growth of the
- 3:20economy in West Virginia. I think it's a very healthy thing. And this
- 3:23is just an indication of the growth of the economy here in West Virginia.
- 3:27I can tell you from my job in the Sect Day States Perspective, where
- 3:30we keep track of the businesses around the state. We've gone from one hundred
- 3:35and thirty thousand jobs when I first came into over one hundred and forty three
- 3:39thousand jobs and now keep businesses I keep track of in the Six Days States
- 3:45office. So yes, we are showing some improvement in the economy. Hopefully
- 3:50that chosen the number of jobs that people have around the state. And this
- 3:54is a chance for these business leaders to get together hear the latest. I
- 3:59know we've got some great speakers online from the Senatory. We've got Senate you
- 4:06mentioned in Capital speaking today. We've got the healthcare of the people from WWU
- 4:13and around the state talking about issues in acladd we're all concerned about higher education,
- 4:19what's happening at WU. There's a lot of thanks unpacker the comforts,
- 4:26and I think it's going to be a mixture of good news as well as
- 4:30how do we face these challenges they're coming West Virginia. You on a continuing
- 4:35basis. Again, we're talking with Secretary of State make Warner and Calco,
- 4:39candidate for governor. I've had you on the show in the past. I
- 4:42know a little bit about the office as well. Well. One of the
- 4:46things about the secretary of State's office that I think a lot of people don't
- 4:48realize, as you said, when you think secretary of State, you automatically
- 4:51think of voting and things of that nature. And that's a certainly a big
- 4:55part of it, but as you've often said on the show, there's actually
- 4:57more people in the Business division than what there are in the other divisions of
- 5:00the office. And a part of that is not only what goes on to
- 5:03the Capitol, but of course you get the business one stop center here in
- 5:06Charleston. You've got offices in Martinsburg, and there's going to be a new
- 5:11office in Clarksburg. The office in Clarksburgh, which was already there, is
- 5:14on the move. I understand talk about that. It is on Friday.
- 5:16We're having basically a celebration or ground opening, and that we've moved down the
- 5:24streets from the previous location. It's now in the newer federal building. And
- 5:30this is just a reflection of again back to the growth in West Virginia and
- 5:33the responsiveness here we are having government basically be like anybody would treat for business.
- 5:40If you have a reason to expand, you do so and the customers
- 5:44are better served. What we've done in the six day States Office is we
- 5:46have leveraged technology. It makes it easier to start a business, easier to
- 5:50grow your business, easier to access things such as a small Business Administration,
- 5:56which can help businesses either get started grow the business, to do business plans,
- 6:01or if you're already an existing business, maybe perhaps go out there and
- 6:03find some of the several funds that are available. That many times these business
- 6:08owners are so busy with their nosing the books and getting products to market and
- 6:13keeping the supply chains up, they're not looking out. They don't have that
- 6:16time or the resources to look out. And so that's what's say a small
- 6:19business administration can do for you is to say, hey, you want to
- 6:23grow your business, here a resources to do so. So in our remote
- 6:28locations in Martinsburg, you know how the east or Panhandless exploded, it is
- 6:32growing, We're doing the same thing in the Corsport Bridgeport area of Bridgeport is
- 6:38continuing to go like crazy, and so we are making government responsive to those
- 6:44needs. We're leveraging technology that makes people their access to these resources online much
- 6:50easier. And by way of example, we've just recently started SOLO that's the
- 6:55single online location that allows somebody to start the business at home and then get
- 7:01the answers that they need from I'll get technical here for a second. A
- 7:06geo fenced resource. That is, we know that the answers in the second
- 7:13Day of State's Office, from the experience that our employees have, the West
- 7:17Virginia State Code, the information technology we GEO fink that so that when you
- 7:23ask this solo a question, it gives you a consistent answer every time,
- 7:28Whereas if you were calling into the office one time you might get an employee
- 7:32who's been there for twenty years and has vast amounts of experience. Another time
- 7:36you might get an employee who's only been hired recently, and so you see
- 7:40that disparate knowledge base that they might have. But when you use the Business
- 7:46Wizard and the technology that we have, you're getting consistent answers. They're the
- 7:49right answers, the most detailed answers, and that's why people are very happy
- 7:56with the response they're getting from the second Day of State's Office. Still,
- 7:59if they want to talk to a person, they could call and they get
- 8:01a friendly voice that wants to help them with their situation. And I just
- 8:05couldn't be happier with the progress that the Sect States Office is made. In
- 8:09September is a national voter registration month across the country, and I know that
- 8:15your team will be out in the places like public schools and other public venues
- 8:18registering people to vote. We will be and we're coming upon a major Mileston.
- 8:24Since I've been in office one, we've cleaned up the vote registration lists
- 8:28and taken off over four hundred thousand names. At the same time, we've
- 8:31registered three hundred and thirty thousand new live people that are interested in voting,
- 8:37and know those three hundred and thirty thousand. This week we anticipating hitting the
- 8:43one hundred thousand high school student that we will register. So if you knew
- 8:46this week, I plan to be in Charleston and hopefully go to Capel High
- 8:54School and registered the one hundred thousand high school students since I've been an office.
- 9:00Why that's so important is because as we talk about growing the economy and
- 9:05going to population in West Virginia, we certainly want to keep the people here
- 9:09who we have educated. Our most valeable resources are people. We don't want
- 9:13to explore export them to Charlotte or some other city outside of the state.
- 9:18We want to keep them here, and so getting them involved in the political
- 9:22process is one of the ways where when they still engaged, they are engaged,
- 9:26they're more civically inclined. We might even get them to run for office.
- 9:31We have a wonderful group of young people in the House of Delegates in
- 9:35the West Virginia Senate, and so all of those are wind winds scenarios,
- 9:39and that's why I put such emphasis on getting young people registered to vote here
- 9:43in the state. Talking again with Secretary of State to Canada and gubernatorial candidate
- 9:48or Secretary of State whole office holder, I should say Macwarter and gubnatorial Canada.
- 9:52Macwarter, you just picked up a big endorsement for your goodnatorial campaigns are
- 9:56from the National Defense Political Action Committee. Talk about that. Yes, that
- 10:01was a real heartwarming thing. Of course, it's not necessarily a surprise.
- 10:05I am the only veteran in the race for governor, and this pack recognizes
- 10:11that we need people with that battle tested experienced in state government because the military
- 10:16doesn't tell you what to think, to tell you to teach you how to
- 10:20think to address the next issue. You can see that we're going with cyber
- 10:24issues and cyber attacks and drone attacks and all these sorts of things that weren't
- 10:28even around them, say ten years ago. So you always have to have
- 10:31a forward looking perspective in the defense industry, and so for a defense pack
- 10:37to recognize reach down from a national level and say we want this person and
- 10:43as the governor, that is real heartwarming for me to get that endorsement at
- 10:50this time. And Mike, before we let you go, I had Attorney
- 10:54General and Gubnatorial Canada Patrick morris again the show last week, and time he's
- 11:00on the show or in public forums, mister Morrissey makes comments by saying he's
- 11:03the only true conservative in this field for governor. And I would think that
- 11:09that would probably come as news to someone like you or even some of the
- 11:13others like like Chris Miller more capital Your thoughts on that statement from mister Morrissey,
- 11:18Well, it is misleading and obviously incorrect. So I would simply ask
- 11:22people to take that with great assault and look at the facts. There's nobody
- 11:28that is more conservative in the state of West Virginia than Mac Warner. And
- 11:31a conservatives means that you want to retain the things that have proven true over
- 11:37the test of time. And so I start back at the beginning, the
- 11:41first words of the Bible. In the beginning God, you know, when
- 11:45you get things straight from a biblical perspective, that's objective truth. It doesn't
- 11:50change over time. And that's what a conservative is versus a progressive who thinks
- 11:54that man is the solution of the problems and so that man is basically good
- 11:58and we can increase government and government rule of man, we can improve things.
- 12:03And that's not my perspective as a conservative. So I would be glad
- 12:07to debate Patrick Morrissey or anybody else at any time and to address this issue.
- 12:13So it's people, Westington. You have a true vision as to who
- 12:16is running for who's running for governor and is telling them the truth day in
- 12:22and day out and not misleading through slogans and models. Well, as part
- 12:26of the business summit, I think there is going to be if I'm correct
- 12:30on this serve, there's going to be kind of a not really a debate,
- 12:33but I think it's going to be more of a discussion or a forum
- 12:35with some of the gubernatorial candidates. Are you looking forward to that? Absolutely?
- 12:41This is a great time to showcase the personalities, the experiences. You
- 12:46know, who better to run this state and somebody like me who's been battle
- 12:52tested. Literally I'm the only better in industries with that experience. Constitutional I'm
- 12:56a lawyer. I understand following the wall. You see that in my decisions
- 13:01as Secretary of State, where we don't arbitrarily change things such as using job
- 13:07boxes, or automatic voters registration or same day registration voting, all those sorts
- 13:11of things that other states have tried and have gotten them into trouble. We
- 13:16haven't done that here in West Virginia. I have followed the laws put out
- 13:18by the legislature, and that's why West Virginia has been recognized nationally as a
- 13:24leader in election security and integrity. Voter competence in elections scott has skyrocketed during
- 13:31my tenure, and people get election results on election night. So those are
- 13:35the type of things that I have done. And if you like what I've
- 13:39done, has Secretary of State think what I can do is I go across
- 13:43state government, streamlining and making speak of them more efficient and doing for the
- 13:48whole state what I've done in the secretary of State's job. Secretary of State
- 13:52and Canada for Governor mac Warner. I appreciate you taking time out your schedule
- 13:54join us. We'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot. Thank you,

- 17:33Nazis for real, let me see Texas. West Virginia's unemployment rate is the
- 17:40lowest in decades, coinciding with the lowest US rate in fifty years. If
- 17:42you think this is because of West Virginia Republicans, you're fooling yourself. Anyway.
- 17:47Here's my challenge the Republicans explain how Republican policies in West Virginia calls the

- 18:08big military industrial complex stopped to steal. Indeed, uh Tex says, religions
- 18:15made up by man. There's no evidence God is real. I wish politicians
- 18:18would stop forcing their made up religion on people through government. Forcing religious values
- 18:22via government isn't how this country was intended to operate. And Okay, enough
- 18:29of that, and then we'll get back to those a little bit later.

- 18:48back in, you know, I'm like just itching too, not get up.
- 18:55Do you want the fun aspect of it? You know exactly? I
- 18:56want to come in here and talk to you for about fifteen then it's have
- 19:00a good time, a few laughs, and then say hi to Chris Lawrence
- 19:03on my way out and hit the door at the door and then it's like,
- 19:06you know, every time. Every time I walk out of this building,
- 19:08I'm like, uh uh, It's like Shawshank redemption, right, and
- 19:12I'm like tearing my shirt off looking up at the sky, sweet freedom.
- 19:15Right. You loved it? Come on, I did know I had a
- 19:18great at that point, at that point in my life, I had.
- 19:22I had a great time. Radio was a blast. Yeah, yes,
- 19:25it is, absolutely. Can's a ton of fun. And you know,
- 19:26I'm standing out there talking to Chris and we're telling stories about, you know,
- 19:30twenty years ago, and it's fun. The smell of deer urine emanating
- 19:34from his studio. I couldn't do what he does. Chris is the man.
- 19:38Yeah, he's the man. He's a great guy. All right.
- 19:41So of course, Tim Brady from the Charleston Convention to Visitors Bureau, we
- 19:44got a whole lot of people coming to the area in Canal Valley for a
- 19:48huge event. Let's talk about it. Yeah. So starting next week September
- 19:52fifth through September tenth, the Charleston Coliseum will be hosting the Norsica Men's Continental
- 19:57Championship. And U, you don't need to worry about what North SEKA stands
- 20:00for. It's North America Central America and the Caribbean. But what you need
- 20:04to know is it's the men's USA volleyball team against six other volleyball teams from
- 20:11around the world, or around this part of the country rather North America,
- 20:15Central America, and the Caribbean. It's the USA, Cuba, Canada,
- 20:18Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Surinam all here for five
- 20:25days playing high level, Olympic level volleyball in the Charleston Coliseum. And it's
- 20:30the last time that the men's USA volleyball team will play in the United States
- 20:34before the paras Olympics. Now, how exactly did we go about getting this
- 20:38to Charleston, West Virginia. What's the plant? I mean, how did
- 20:41you? How did this happen? You know, you just you just music
- 20:44lucky. Sometimes I would I would like to say that it's it was my
- 20:48charming charisma, but uh, you know, in the in the competitive sports
- 20:53business, the travel sports business, it's just a lot of networking. It's
- 20:56meeting people, it's going to trade shows, it's going to conveys, and
- 21:00it's talking to people and telling them about your facilities. And we were lucky
- 21:04enough a few weeks ago to host USA Table Tennis for some Pan American games.
- 21:10We had you table tennis players from twenty one countries through USA Table Tennis.
- 21:15I got to meet the CEO of USA Volleyball. They were looking for
- 21:18a place to host this event. He knew about the coliseum, he had
- 21:22talked to the CEO of USA Table Tennis. It's all relationship business. So
- 21:26once he came to Charleston, saw the city, saw the facility, met
- 21:29the mayor, met some of the folks in the city. They were sold
- 21:33and they were excited to come here and we'll be hosting them beginning September fifth.
- 21:37So how many people are we talking? I mean it's not just because
- 21:41obviously it's just like with any sports team, it's not just the players.
- 21:44I mean there's support staff, there's coaches. Maybe how many people are we
- 21:47talking per team? Rough ballpark figures, so ballpark figure about thirty people per
- 21:51team. So you're talking about two hundred and some athletes and staff. But
- 21:53you've also got the staff of USA Volleyball. But for us, the big
- 21:57draw is the ticket sales. West Virginia and Charleston sit in so USA Volleyball
- 22:03as a as an entity, as an organization that promotes volleyball. Amateur volleyball
- 22:07throughout the country is broken up into regions, and we sit in from a
- 22:11participation standpoint. Their largest region, which is the Ohio Valley region. So
- 22:17we're gonna get people. We've already sold tickets to people from Michigan, Ohio,
- 22:21Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana. They're all coming here because they want to
- 22:25see the USA men's team play competitively in Charleston. And when those people come,
- 22:30as we always talk about tim they're not just going to come in and
- 22:33watch the volleyball match and leave. They're gonna eat. They're going to stay
- 22:37tails. That's right. They don't park at the coliseum, go watch a
- 22:40volleyball match, the drive and drive back to Grand Rapids. Right. No,
- 22:44they're they're going to stay in the hotels. They're gonna go down to
- 22:47Capitol Street in Summer Street and and on Courier and Virginia and shop and eat
- 22:51and walk around. And you know, we've got a We've got an event
- 22:53scheduled for the sixth on Wednesday or is that Wednesday the sixth in City Center
- 23:02Slock Plaza. We've got a Latin music band and food trucks and Brian Cooper
- 23:08from Art's Amplified as helping us create this event for the players but also for
- 23:11the community. So if you're you know, if you're a fan of volleyball,
- 23:15or you just like music and food and a good time, come out
- 23:18to Slock Plaza on the sixth from six to nine because the teams will be
- 23:22down there. It'll it'll be a fun atmosphere in a great time. And
- 23:27I know, as we talked about with Regtt, I had you on a
- 23:30chill last week talking about the economic impact of Regatta. You try to forecast
- 23:33some of these things, but it's kind of difficult to do. But is
- 23:37there a place? Is there? I mean, what are you looking at
- 23:38right now? As far as economic impact? I don't necessarily mean a number,
- 23:42but this is going to be a big shot in the arm toward the
- 23:47end of summer, toward the entire Canal Valley because all these people are not
- 23:51going to stay in downtown Charleston, that's right. They're going to be spread
- 23:53out everywhere, that's right. And we always say internally, you know,
- 23:56tourists don't care about municipal boundaries. What's good for Charleston is good for South
- 24:00Charleston, is good for Putnam County, is good for Barber's Ville, is
- 24:03good for it. Like it's there's a there's a halo effect, right you
- 24:06throw the pebble and the pond and the concentric circles just sort of spread and
- 24:11it's good for everyone. Here's what I do know. I do know that
- 24:15the Charleston Marriott Town Centers their host hotel and it's going to be booked out.
- 24:18So the first thing that's going to happen is anybody that's coming to town
- 24:22that would ordinarily want to stay there is going to stay somewhere else. So
- 24:25it's compression. It's pushing that hotel business out into the other property. So
- 24:30even though maybe the volleyball teams aren't staying at Hotel B, people will stay
- 24:34there. So we're filling hotel rooms and that's a good thing. We're also
- 24:38sending people out to eat and shop and and have some entertainment while they're in
- 24:44town, and the money that they spend has a multiplying effect throughout the community.
- 24:48As well as someone who doesn't know to him a lot about volleyball.
- 24:52I mean, is this like a tournament type thing? Do they play more
- 24:55than one game. How does it work out? What's format? So it's
- 24:56pool play. There actually be over the course of the five days, fifteen
- 25:00games. There's three matches a day, so it's pool play for the first
- 25:03few days and then you get into elimination rounds. But every team will play
- 25:07every other team at some point. And I will tell you that the match
- 25:11that everyone points to that you have to see is the USA versus Cuba.
- 25:18Apparently they are the two best teams in this tournament, both certainly contenders for
- 25:25medals at the Paris Olympics. So you want an opportunity, If you want
- 25:27an opportunity to watch good volleyball, you're gonna want to see the USA in
- 25:32Cuba. And I can tell you, Dave, that that match will take
- 25:34place at seven thirty on September seventh. Okay, so at seven thirty on
- 25:38the seventh, USA versus Cuba. But the matches actually start on the fifth,
- 25:41and three matches a day, three five and seven thirty every day Saturday
- 25:48through the tenth, or the fifth through the tenth. Rather and Tim,
- 25:52I would think that for because volleyball is a huge sport in the public schools
- 25:56here, well, I guess private schools too, I would imagine, and
- 26:00that you're going to see a lot of those students student athletes come in and
- 26:03want to watch, the teams from the various high schools to come in because
- 26:06it's not every day that they're going to get to see something like this.
- 26:07Yeah, we've actually and we actually set up some discount discounted tickets for teams
- 26:11and clubs in the area. We want the middle school and high school kids
- 26:15and the and the club volleyball players from around the Canal Valley and beyond to
- 26:19come in, and we've actually offered it up to programs throughout the state.
- 26:22There's a team discount to come in and watch as a team and participate.
- 26:30We've also got a pretty robust group of volunteers from the local volleyball programs to
- 26:36help us with some of the things during the tournament. So we've tried as
- 26:38hard as we could to engage the middle and high school volleyball players in the
- 26:44state of West Virginia, specifically in the Metro Valley to come out and be
- 26:48a part of this and see it firsthand. And I know this is first
- 26:52and foremost right now, this is on the front, front, front burner,
- 26:55but any big, other big events coming up in the area that you
- 26:57want to mention just briefly. Yeah, you know the other one that I
- 27:00that I'll mention right now and hopefully you'll you'll be gracious enough to let me
- 27:04come back and talk about this at a later date. But the first weekend
- 27:08in December, we're hosting an international strongman competition. And anybody that lived in
- 27:12Charleston back in the day when we hosted World Strongest Man and there was the
- 27:17great photos of guys pulling fire trucks in front of the Capitol. This is
- 27:22an offshoot of that, but it's actually a strong man and strong woman competition
- 27:27that's broken down by weight class, so you have seven different weight classes of
- 27:32men and seven different weight classes of women competing to be the strongest man or
- 27:36woman in the world in their particular weight class. That's going to be inside
- 27:40the coliseum as well. It's going to be a ton of fun. And
- 27:42that is the first weekend in December, so we're looking forward to that when
- 27:45we get through volleyball. Volleyball thing is a major deal, huge, huge
- 27:49deal. And again I can't stress enough. Last time to see the USA
- 27:52men's team play before the Olympics. Yeah, and sometimes I know that that
- 27:59you read things line, you see these things that sometimes there's always negativity out
- 28:03there where people say, well, how's this going to help Charleston. Somebody
- 28:06referred to the table ten as things ping pong and so on and so forth
- 28:08and kind of downplaying the whole thing. This is major bucks and it's the
- 28:12true capitalist that I am. That's what I look at. I look at
- 28:15the money, and I look at the cash that's gonna be coming. And
- 28:18I would be interested to have you on after this volleyball thing, much like
- 28:22we did with Regatta so and it made not to that extent, but you
- 28:26should be able to have some sort of ball. But this is how much
- 28:27money that this brought in, and you know, not only for the hotels,
- 28:32but for the restaurants and the other businesses in the area. Absolutely love
- 28:33to come back and talk about that because that's why we do what we do.
- 28:37You know, we're trying to raise the image of Charleston. We're also
- 28:38trying to bring in economic impact, economic growth. And before you cut me
- 28:45loose, Dave, I do want to say I will offer to your listeners
- 28:48today a special discount code if you go to the Charleston Coliseum website to purchase
- 28:52tickets and use the code Spike twenty three. Spike twenty three, Ryan,
- 28:57Spike twenty three. There's a discount for your listeners this morning for tickets to

- 29:11so is that what we're calling this nation? Yeah, Dave Nation? Yeah,
- 29:15but which is different than Damn Nation? Yes, well they're basically the
- 29:18same, all right, eternal But but all right, so you go to
- 29:22the Colisseum Convinced Center website and they'll ask you for a prompt and it's what
- 29:26was it against Spike s Spike twenty three. Ryan. You're probably gonna get
- 29:30some calls about that, so we'll make sure you commit that to remember Spike
- 29:34twenty three, and you get discounts just for being a listener to this show,

- 33:17this morning. Good morning, Sarah, how are you wonderful? Thanks so
- 33:21much for bringing me on. Thank you for being a big announcement from you
- 33:23a couple of days ago. We'll get to that in a couple of moments.
- 33:25But you wanted to say something about about to the people that were impacted
- 33:30by this flooding a couple of days ago. Yeah, my heart's really heavy
- 33:36today, my family's heart. We grew up in the eastern Inclandar Valley.
- 33:38We got really devastated by the floods a couple of days ago. We still
- 33:42have a lot of family, particularly in the Winterford area. That's where my
- 33:45wife grew up. So please keep folks in your prayers and also reach out
- 33:50to organizations like a Union Mission who are really doing good work to help those
- 33:54folks. So many people have lost their homes, lost their vehicles, lost
- 34:00really everything, and even the ones in Himouth they've lost, you know,
- 34:04their basements and so forth. So it's just a lot of devastation up there,
- 34:07and those folks should really use your help. I mean, it's just
- 34:09incredible. If you go to our website wv metronews dot com, Kerry who
- 34:13to Sex spent the day there yesterday. Jeff posted some videos from up there
- 34:15on Monday, just talking to those people and Larry, I mean, these
- 34:20people and you're from that area, you know, and your wife is from
- 34:22that area, they just haven't seen anything like that, And it's just one
- 34:25of those weird phenomenons that no weather. Folks people a lot smarter when it
- 34:30comes to you the stuff than what you and I are said. Just one
- 34:34of those say, it's just basically parked over the area and you put that
- 34:37much rain there was such a such a small area. The water just really
- 34:40has nowhere to go. And one of the things happened here and we've seen
- 34:43it before, is the water is not only coming down the creek it was
- 34:45coming off the mountains. Yeah, and so there was just nowhere to hide
- 34:49if you happen to be in that in that area. But it's something that
- 34:52you know, the folks in the East Bank area, in the coal fields
- 34:53in Klong County, we've lived with all our lives. We've seen it in
- 34:55different areas. It just really hasn't happened in this area before. But mostly
- 35:00the folks that really got hurt, of the folks can can at least afford
- 35:02it. So let's let's all please join together and try to help them.
- 35:06Absolutely. Uh, Larry, you made the announcement official a couple of days
- 35:09ago. You're gonna be a candidate for treasure the great state of West Virginia.
- 35:13Why the run for treasure? But my wife and up we've been thinking
- 35:15about it, praying about it really for some time well over the year,
- 35:19as to where and how I could continue to serve West Virginians and treasure just
- 35:23is really is a really nice fit for us. I practice a CPA for
- 35:29over twenty years after graduating from Westernia Attack and again growing up in eastern end
- 35:32of the Valley, so I've I've represented hundreds, if not thousands of Westernia
- 35:37small businesses, then went into business myself and grew to a very large business
- 35:42through the blessings of the Lord. We sold a couple of years ago,
- 35:45and definitely have the time to do it. But finance is something that I've
- 35:49always been drawn to. I grew up with it. My family was all
- 35:52in small businesses and so which is something that really interests me. And I
- 35:55think being able to protect and safeguard the taxpayers money is something that it really
- 36:00gets me excited. What are some of the things that you want to implement
- 36:02or continue or whatever if you are elected treasure leader. I would say I
- 36:07would I would lead off with saying that that I think Treasure Rilly Moore has
- 36:08done a phenomenal job bringing his conservative principles and his goals to that office,
- 36:16and I would want to continue to absolutely continue those. I think his work
- 36:20on on ESD, on things based, and which is very very simple,
- 36:23was basically saying that that we're going to invest our money and we're gonna invest
- 36:28We're gonna use our investments in ways that are consistent with our values. That
- 36:32we're not going to let people in multinational corporations implement their own agenda that goes
- 36:39against our values or against our economy. So we're going to make sure that
- 36:42our investments are consistent with our values. I think that's I think that's number
- 36:45one. I think the other thing is is the taxpayers deserve a treasurer who
- 36:50will will safeguard their assets, a treasurer who understands how hard that our citizens
- 36:54work to raise their families and to pay their taxes. And so just making
- 36:58sure that we don't waste the money that government doesn't grow, our tax vers
- 37:02can affordymore government. You know, Bionomics is absolutely crust the pocketbooks of the
- 37:07state taxpayer, and so the state itself needs to needs to tighten its belt
- 37:12because again, our citizens cannot they just can't take anymore burden. I'm very
- 37:16blissed to be been a part of the team that worked on a Governor Justice
- 37:20tax plan last year, and through his leadership, we passed the greatest tax
- 37:23cut in history, and I'll use my evils to advocate for more tax cuts
- 37:27for West Virginians. I think finally, the third third key area is that
- 37:31I'm a strong believer in school choice, and I believe we need to continue
- 37:36to give parents the opportunity to pick the best learning learning situation for their for
- 37:39their children. So we'll work to continue to expand school choice and also get
- 37:45ready for the for the huge increase of Hope Scholarship that we will see in
- 37:49twenty twenty six. What are some of the other dude, I think this
- 37:52may sound like an obvious question, but you know, you don't know what
- 37:54you don't know what are some of the other duties that are assigned to understate
- 38:00code, to the straight treasures. It's our government is so big. It's
- 38:04because it's not just you know, you're managing the check book. There's a
- 38:06whole lot more to it. There's a lot more to it. So so
- 38:08we oversee the h the short term investments. So so, but for every
- 38:13dollar that the Treasure's Office can earn and investment income is one less dollar in
- 38:16tax still dollars that we have. Again, we implement the Hope Scholarship.
- 38:21That's a that's a really big program and it's going without a doubt. So
- 38:24we've got a lot of the colleague savings plans. We we execute and implement
- 38:30those. So it's a lot of stuff. We keep track of the state's
- 38:32debt, so there's some mundane things, and there's some really really interesting things,
- 38:37but it's really what people would think our Treasures Office will be is our
- 38:40job is a safe safeguard the assets of the of the state, to make
- 38:45sure that everything's been done with the utmost integrity. And now that the announcement
- 38:49has been made, the campaign gets underway, and it's something you have some
- 38:52familiarity with. As you said, you know, you're former member of the
- 38:55of the House of Delegates, but this is not just in a specific district.
- 38:59You will be running statewide, So you're gonna be here in Charleston,
- 39:01but you're also going to be in Wheelan and Martinsburg and mcgow County and all
- 39:06these other places. West Virginia is somewhat of a diverse state, and you'll
- 39:09be out there. But in your business life, you said, I heard
- 39:13you with Dave Wilson other day. You said, you're used to travel in
- 39:15West Virginia because you did it when you were in business, done it for
- 39:17twenty years. And one of the one of the there's a lot of exciting
- 39:21parts or fund parts about my job, but one of them was to being
- 39:23able to to Chris Cross, West Virginia to see all parts of West Virginia
- 39:27to understand how economies are different, Reallyvan cultures are different. So I'll be
- 39:30saying hello to a lot of old friends and meeting a lot of new friends.
- 39:32So we're very excited about that. Travel a little bit anyway with my
- 39:37job with the governor, and also has been a national committeeman for the Westerner
- 39:40State Party. So we're again I'm looking forward to that and we want to
- 39:45make sure that we get out there and meet as many people as we can.
- 39:47We will run a very very vigorous campaign. And would you be taking
- 39:52part and if they happen, we'd be taking part in debates certain things,
- 39:54because I know there is at least I saw at least one other Canada.
- 39:59I think that it's running for state treasure What makes you more qualified than other
- 40:02folks? Anybody? I think? I think it's my background again, former
- 40:07CPA for twenty plus years, businessman who concentrated on the financial area. I've
- 40:14been I've been in state government, through the through the House of Delegates.
- 40:16I've worked for the governor for almost almost two years now. When I was
- 40:21a kid, I was a treasury quarter City of morow Matt So I understand
- 40:23what it looks like from the from the municipals part, but governments something I've
- 40:27always followed, and I think my experience experience with a matchup with anybody in
- 40:30the race, I expect to be a number of candidates. We are the
- 40:35majority party in this state of West Virginia. There are a lot of people
- 40:37that want to serve and want to want to make West Virginia a better state.
- 40:40So we expect to have a competitive race and we'll work really hard as
- 40:44somebody this is kind off topic of a bit later before we let it go,
- 40:46but it's somebody that's been around a while. I mean, would you
- 40:50have dreamed it, maybe twenty years ago, that you'd have had this much
- 40:52interest in people running for governor on the Republican ticket, or running for secretary
- 40:59of state or atorney general. I mean that you have this many people on
- 41:00the Republican I mean, I'm from southern West Virginia. It was always that
- 41:04way with the Democrats in southern West Virginia. Now we're seeing that shift.
- 41:07Is does that surprise even you? Oh, it's it's really it's really stunning.
- 41:13I've been involved in politics most of my Republican politics, most of my
- 41:16adult life, but I remember in the nineties when we put forth with Chairman
- 41:20Chairman Warner, Chris Warner, at that time, we're going to feel the
- 41:22ballot, and I kidd him all the time. We had two criteria to
- 41:27feel the Republican vallot. You had to be Republican. You had to be
- 41:29breathing, yes, yea, a pulse, Yeah, you had to have
- 41:31fault. But yeah, it's just it's just phenomenal. But we have become
- 41:36the Republican Party, has become the working person's party, and it really fits
- 41:40well with West Virginia, and we're Washington. DC is just so out of
- 41:45control law of their policies and the things there. Their values we don't understand
- 41:50those in Westernia. We don't recognize as in West Virginia. So it makes
- 41:52sense that we're going to revail against that. We're going to do everything we
- 41:54can to fight for West Virginia values. Leave us with your mission statement,
- 41:59washing people, vote for the Pack, vote for Larry Pack, to protect
- 42:01your dollars. To make sure that someone, someone in the state House is
- 42:05looking and is looking at every dollar spent and understands again how hard you work
- 42:09for your dollars, how hard it is for you, raise your family and
- 42:12to make sure that we don't put an additional burden on you. Do you
- 42:15have a website or any of that stuff up and running now, Larry Pack
- 42:17for West Virginia dot com. Okay, there you go, and I think
- 42:21got some social media stuff out there. Shouldn't be too hard to find.
- 42:22Larry, Best of luck with the campaign, best luck with all the travel,
- 42:25run instead of West Virginia and we'll have you on in the future again.
- 42:29Thanks a lot, Thank you day, appreciate you. Larry Pack again.

- 49:40that that's going to change in West Virginia. And I get a text and
- 49:43I got it the other day and I apologized for not reading it. I
- 49:45get a text from time to time from someone, and I appreciate all the

- 49:58basically say, if they think that West Virginia women are are really going to
- 50:01turn out in the selection, it, maybe folks are a little bit more
- 50:04progressive because they are upset at some of the things that happen. You know,
- 50:08it's not gonna matter. I mean, God bless him. I believe
- 50:12everybody should vote only once though. I think everybody should vote, and I
- 50:16want all voices to be heard. But there's absolutely zero signs, zero that
- 50:22this Republican surge that started around ten years ago is going away. A matter

- 50:53I really really don't. I mean, I want them to because I think
