- 0:26Speaker 1: speak for the first time since being fired as the
- 0:30Speaker 1: Saints head coach. He was on Unbreakable with Jay Glazer
- 0:34Speaker 1: and he did talk about the day that he was fired.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Here was the description.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I was let go on Monday morning. Mickey came into
- 0:43Speaker 2: my office, closed the door, said let's talk. And Mickey
- 0:47Speaker 2: was not really in favor of this move. And we
- 0:50Speaker 2: talked and we had a really good conversation. So then
- 0:54Speaker 2: he kind of said, well, let me let me there's
- 0:57Speaker 2: a couple of guys. We'll talk to the coordinators. You know,
- 1:00Speaker 2: I want to talk to Darren Rizzy, who's you know,
- 1:03Speaker 2: he's going to have coach. No. He wanted to talk
- 1:06Speaker 2: to them, and I said I said, look, I just
- 1:09Speaker 2: I want to be able to address the staff. I
- 1:10Speaker 2: want to be able to talk to the staff. And
- 1:12Speaker 2: so I had a meeting at ten o'clock with the
- 1:15Speaker 2: coaches and told them, hey, look this is what happened.
- 1:19Speaker 2: This is I gotta let go. It's all conversation. It's
- 1:23Speaker 2: it's an awful conversation.
- 1:27Speaker 1: One more that's kind of laid out that day he
- 1:31Speaker 1: did at number three please he uh, well, just listen.
- 1:38Speaker 2: When I think about getting fired, I really think about, well, look,
- 1:42Speaker 2: as this is your this is your company, this is
- 1:46Speaker 2: your organization. You have the right to do whatever you
- 1:49Speaker 2: want to do with that. And and I don't look
- 1:51Speaker 2: at it as you know, I failed. I look at
- 1:55Speaker 2: it as they just decided they wanted to go in
- 1:58Speaker 2: a different direction. And if I not what they want,
- 2:02Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of spots that I will
- 2:04Speaker 2: be what they want. Right.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Oh man, I mean there's a lot of delusion there.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Dennis Allen, in his career as a head coach, is
- 2:16Speaker 1: twenty six and fifty three. He's got a three to
- 2:18Speaker 1: twenty nine winning percentage as a head coach in two
- 2:21Speaker 1: different states. In New Orleans, he was eighteen and twenty
- 2:26Speaker 1: five a four to nineteen winning percentage, so again sub
- 2:29Speaker 1: five hundred. He inherited an organization, a team that had
- 2:39Speaker 1: gone to the playoffs in twenty seventeen, eighteen, nineteen twenty
- 2:43Speaker 1: and missed in twenty one. He took over. Of course
- 2:46Speaker 1: in twenty twenty two, went seven to ten, then nine
- 2:51Speaker 1: to eight, only because of the strong finish against a
- 2:53Speaker 1: week schedule, and then this year started two and seven.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Of course, the seven game losing streak, a defense that
- 2:58Speaker 1: finished dead last in the NF fell. Boy, I don't
- 3:03Speaker 1: know now, I understand confidence, right. In order to be
- 3:09Speaker 1: a head coach, there has to have this. You have
- 3:11Speaker 1: to have this sort of belief in yourself and your ability.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Otherwise it's what prompts a man in a situation. I
- 3:20Speaker 1: had to want to be a head coach or anyone
- 3:23Speaker 1: in a position of leadership because you believe in your
- 3:25Speaker 1: ability to do it. But sometimes you have to be
- 3:29Speaker 1: able to identify and self evaluate and be self critical
- 3:36Speaker 1: and say what was my role in what went wrong?
- 3:39Speaker 1: And for Dennis Allen to sit here after going eighteen
- 3:42Speaker 1: and twenty five leading the Saints to a seven game
- 3:46Speaker 1: losing streak the first time we had seen that since Katrina,
- 3:51Speaker 1: I mean, actually longer than that. To not own any
- 3:58Speaker 1: culpability for what went so terribly wrong during his time
- 4:01Speaker 1: here is ignorant at best, stupid at worst, however you
- 4:11Speaker 1: want to say it. I don't know, but Dennis Sound's
- 4:15Speaker 1: gone no longer the same problem, and I don't suspect
- 4:17Speaker 1: he's gonna have another opportunity to be a head coach.
