- 0:20Don Armstrong: Jeff will have the cruise in and events calendars, and I'll bring you stories making automotive news headlines this week.
- 0:24Don Armstrong: We've got a lot to cram in here in the next 25 minutes.
- 0:27Don Armstrong: We hope you'll stay with us.
- 0:28Don Armstrong: Howdy, along with Mike out of this world, Mars.
- 0:30Don Armstrong: We always need more Jeff Zeke and Master Studio and Transmitter Engineer, David Ainsley.
- 0:37Don Armstrong: I'm Don Armstrong.
- 0:38Don Armstrong: So glad that you could join us today.
- 0:40Don Armstrong: We're going to get to driving destinations and the review of the Ford F-150.
- 0:44Don Armstrong: But uh Stan, I wanted to get the story quickly about the Cadiente.
- 0:49Don Armstrong: We talked about that, and uh it's a special gift, uh, and uh but it's quite a restoration.
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: It is, and and there is no short story, but the short story uh that was a wine car.
- 1:01SPEAKER_04: I was at an auction and it was silver with a black convertible top, and uh I had had quite a bit of wine.
- 1:10SPEAKER_04: I see.
- 1:11SPEAKER_04: And what year is that car?
- 1:12SPEAKER_04: Uh 61.
- 1:13SPEAKER_04: 61 Cadillac.
- 1:15SPEAKER_04: And so when you have a lot of wine and you're an attractive girl, you want to show off and buy a Cadillac convertible.
- 1:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:22SPEAKER_05: And the story.
- 1:24SPEAKER_04: It looked great through the wine glasses.
- 1:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: But uh anyway, we decided we'll fix it up a little bit.
- 1:31SPEAKER_04: And so that went out.
- 1:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:35SPEAKER_04: So we so uh the company uh extensive metal.
- 1:40SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:40SPEAKER_04: Bill Bill Carl.
- 1:42SPEAKER_04: So he got the job.
- 1:44SPEAKER_04: But it was they did a nice job.
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: And Bill and I are friends.
- 1:48SPEAKER_04: We remained friends to this despite everything.
- 1:50SPEAKER_04: Well, TV built cars.
- 1:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's just everything goes.
- 1:55Mike Marrs: It was part of his show programming.
- 1:58Mike Marrs: Yeah, it was part of the show.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: Texas Metal and the Federal Metal, and they started off back.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: I remember when they came to the original restaurant to start shooting it, and the director was there and the cameras were all set up.
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: He said, Can't sit out in front and act like you're doing some paperwork out there by the fireplace.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: I said, Okay.
- 2:18SPEAKER_04: So I'm standing out there and Bill's gonna pull up in his rollback.
- 2:23SPEAKER_04: And you're gonna say, Hey, good to see you, Bill.
- 2:26SPEAKER_04: Okay, got it.
- 2:27SPEAKER_04: And so we walk over.
- 2:29SPEAKER_04: He said, So then we introduce ourselves, and he says, So this is it, huh?
- 2:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's it.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: So he walks around, he opens over and says, This is a nice car.
- 2:40SPEAKER_04: Bill.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: Nobody wants to pay money to see a nice car become nicer.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: It's a piece of crap, Bill.
- 2:48SPEAKER_04: Now let's back up and start over again.
- 2:51SPEAKER_04: So, anyway, there's a license plate under the carpet, you know, covering the colour.
- 2:55SPEAKER_04: Was it really?
- 2:55SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: It was rough.
- 2:57SPEAKER_04: And uh but it was a wonderful, wonderful home for the rats that lived in it.
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: It was just amazing.
- 3:03Don Armstrong: How long did restoration take?
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: Nine months?
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: Ninety days.
- 3:08SPEAKER_04: Ninety days?
- 3:10SPEAKER_04: 90 days.
- 3:10Jeff Dziekan: Because of filming and just go, go, go, go, go.
- 3:14SPEAKER_04: And they're doing two cars at a time.
- 3:15SPEAKER_04: There was a pickup truck and so forth.
- 3:17SPEAKER_04: But uh they chose the colors viper red, uh re-chromed everything.
- 3:25SPEAKER_04: It's still it's still airing, they're still showing it.
- 3:27SPEAKER_04: It's it is it's fun to watch.
- 3:29SPEAKER_04: But it got finished and it was nice.
- 3:32SPEAKER_04: It looked beautiful.
- 3:33SPEAKER_04: Sheila was not allowed to see it.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: It was a gift to her, and so they did the reveal uh for those of you that don't know, an airplane hanger.
- 3:41SPEAKER_04: We're in an airplane hangar in West Houston, where we live, and our offices are there, the car collection's there.
- 3:48SPEAKER_04: So we were finished with it.
- 3:49SPEAKER_04: There it goes.
- 3:50SPEAKER_04: My current wife right there.
- 3:51SPEAKER_04: Shout out Sheila.
- 3:53SPEAKER_04: They're gonna be needing you anyway.
- 3:55SPEAKER_04: We'll need you.
- 3:56SPEAKER_04: Uh so when Bill got finished, we did the reveal, it was very exciting and uh look beautiful.
- 4:05SPEAKER_04: So we got finished and it just wasn't driving like it should.
- 4:08SPEAKER_04: So I said, let's fix it up some more.
- 4:11SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 4:12SPEAKER_04: Why don't you keep the original engine as a numbers matching car?
- 4:15SPEAKER_04: And the guy's alright, that means something for some reason.
- 4:17SPEAKER_04: It does.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: But you know, those old early Cadillac motors, they were rough.
- 4:21SPEAKER_04: I mean, from the factory, they were they sounded rough.
- 4:24SPEAKER_04: So we're gonna send it to Louisiana to let him tighten a few things up.
- 4:30SPEAKER_04: All of the everything under the hood was was black, you know, like like a factory black.
- 4:35SPEAKER_04: Like factory black.
- 4:36SPEAKER_04: And uh so we sent it to Sean Rosar and Lafayette.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: And he started over.
- 4:44SPEAKER_05: Oh jeez.
- 4:45SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 4:46SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: Uh in for that accent.
- 4:50SPEAKER_04: What color do you want that uh that motor?
- 4:54SPEAKER_04: You want to need that motor in the car?
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: Uh am I?
- 4:59SPEAKER_04: No, so it just needs an LS.
- 5:00SPEAKER_04: No, not another LS.
- 5:02SPEAKER_04: Uh yes, it needs an LAS.
- 5:04SPEAKER_04: It needs a new transmission.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: What color how do you want that firewall to look?
- 5:10SPEAKER_04: Pretty.
- 5:10SPEAKER_04: I want it blocked and you want everything red.
- 5:12SPEAKER_04: Everything red.
- 5:14SPEAKER_04: Whole front end comes off the car, the trunk, the door, everything.
- 5:17SPEAKER_04: So now it's got an LS in it.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: Uh a modern automatic transmission.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: Uh everything under the hood's red.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: Red, red, red.
- 5:26Don Armstrong: You know, I've got vacuum cleaners I've been trying to sell and unload.
- 5:29Don Armstrong: Maybe perhaps you'd be interested in one or two of those.
- 5:32SPEAKER_04: They're all red.
- 5:33Don Armstrong: Let's have a drink and we'll start starting to bidding.
- 5:37SPEAKER_04: I want to say one other thing.
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: If you look closely, it's parked right here at the grill.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: It's aluminum, and it was rough.
- 5:45SPEAKER_04: It had, you know, pits and all that.
- 5:48SPEAKER_04: Well, pits, but it had, you know, people would let stuff trip on it.
- 5:50SPEAKER_04: It stained it, but you couldn't see it from this far away.
- 5:53Don Armstrong: They took the whole thing apart, which is about a million pieces.
- 5:56SPEAKER_04: A million pieces.
- 5:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:57SPEAKER_04: Literally, literally two buckets apart.
- 6:00SPEAKER_04: And each one had to be polished by hand separately.
- 6:04SPEAKER_04: Separately.
- 6:04SPEAKER_04: And then reassembled.
- 6:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_04: And so I took it over to the old folks' house and gave them something to do over there.
- 6:11SPEAKER_04: Heck of an idea.
- 6:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:13Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 6:16SPEAKER_04: Geriatric.
- 6:16SPEAKER_04: You should have talked to me.
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: You're consultant.
- 6:19SPEAKER_04: Geriatric car repair.
- 6:21SPEAKER_05: He we did the air ride.
- 6:23SPEAKER_05: Listen, I wouldn't have any problem at all spending your money.
- 6:26SPEAKER_04: The car the car drives like new now.
- 6:29SPEAKER_04: Air ride works.
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: Everything like it's supposed to.
- 6:32SPEAKER_04: Sound system.
- 6:33SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's just you can drive it anywhere.
- 6:36SPEAKER_04: We love you.
- 6:37SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 6:38SPEAKER_04: We appreciate you.
- 6:39SPEAKER_04: I'm very proud of it.
- 6:40SPEAKER_04: Well, I would be too.
- 6:41SPEAKER_04: I've never driven the car personally.
- 6:43SPEAKER_04: Seriously?
- 6:44SPEAKER_04: Never?
- 6:44SPEAKER_04: Never.
- 6:45Mike Marrs: Not even when she wasn't looking.
- 6:47SPEAKER_04: No.
- 6:47SPEAKER_04: I gave it to Sheila.
- 6:48SPEAKER_04: We didn't all the princess wave as we were leaving the airplane anchor.
- 6:53SPEAKER_04: And they were filming it.
- 6:54SPEAKER_04: And the Chase just her Sheila's son just fell in love with that car.
- 7:00SPEAKER_04: So after it was redone, second time, it mysteriously never came back to my garage.
- 7:08SPEAKER_04: Which is nice because it takes up the space of two cars.
- 7:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it does.
- 7:11SPEAKER_04: So Chase has kind of taken adopters.
- 7:15SPEAKER_04: Taken care of it for you.
- 7:16Don Armstrong: Stan Holt, a founder of the Lupi Tortilla franchise, thank you very much for being with us today.

- 9:25Don Armstrong: Next week we're back in the dual studios, and we hope you'll join us then.
- 9:29Don Armstrong: Thanks for joining us today here on the In Wheel Time Car Talk Show.
- 9:32Don Armstrong: Time now for our car review.
- 9:33Don Armstrong: Mr.
- 9:33Don Armstrong: Mars drove the Ford F-150 hybrid.
- 9:36Mike Marrs: Yes, sir.
- 9:37Mike Marrs: I had a chance to drive this one uh for the last week or so.
- 9:40Mike Marrs: And and it's we talked about this a few weeks ago when I had one of the other Ford F-150s, more of a uh stripper as we would call it, an STX model, not nearly as loaded up as what the uh King Ranch is by all by all means.
- 9:54Mike Marrs: So this final desk assembly destination is a location is in Dearborn.
- 9:59Mike Marrs: Now there are eight available trim levels on the Ford F-150.
- 10:02Mike Marrs: There's three different cab sizes, three different bed sizes, different motors.
- 10:06Mike Marrs: There's like 20 combinations you can get out of the F-150.
- 10:09Mike Marrs: So there's bound to be something there you like.
- 10:11Mike Marrs: And if you want one that's on the luxury end, go for the King Ranch 4x4.
- 10:16Mike Marrs: This is a full-size pickup, seats five, and some really nice interiors.
- 10:20Mike Marrs: Now, on the outside of it, you're gonna find the King Ranch badging.
- 10:24Mike Marrs: You got LED headlights and fog lights, and even got side mirror spotlights and taillights, all of it LED, all the way around.
- 10:31Mike Marrs: It's got power deploying running boards, makes it a little bit nicer to step up into that because it does set up a little bit higher because of the four by four.
- 10:39Mike Marrs: It's even got a power rear glass on it.
- 10:41Mike Marrs: It's got the multifunctional tailgate that took me and a friend of mine about 20 minutes to figure out how to operate.
- 10:47Mike Marrs: Uh-oh.
- 10:48Mike Marrs: And then we also had the retractable center step in it.
- 10:50Mike Marrs: And once you get the tailgate operating like it's supposed to, that step works really well to step up in there, just like clipping up steps.
- 10:57Mike Marrs: Had the twin-panel moon roof on it, and we were rolling on some nice 22-inch wheels on it that makes it a really nice ride and drive.
- 11:04Mike Marrs: Interior, leather heated seats up front, even had leather heated seats on the second row.
- 11:11Mike Marrs: Front seats also are ventilated, so you got plenty of heat and cool choices there for the front passengers and the driver.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: And more enjoyable.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: It's available on 97% of controlled access highways called Blue Zones.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Once you're on the highway, press the adaptive cruise control button on the steering wheel.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Wait for the hands-free icon, and Blue Cruise helps with accelerating, braking, and steering so you can let go and relax while continuing to watch the road.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Blue Cruise uses a driver-facing camera to help ensure your eyes stay on the road.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: The driver attention system was designed to remind you to pay attention, giving you visual and audio parts of your eyes are off the road for too long.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Adaptive cruise control already adjusts your speed to the flow of traffic.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Blue Cruise builds on that as a driver assistance feature, not a replacement.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: It helps monitor your position on the road and scans the traffic around you.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: In lane repositioning detects approaching vehicles and shift them over in the lane, providing a little extra room when you need it.
- 12:18Mike Marrs: I'm really not sure what that was then.
- 12:23unknown: Huh?
- 12:24Don Armstrong: So please continue your review.
- 12:25Mike Marrs: All right, all right.
- 12:26Mike Marrs: So up under the hood, you're going to find a 3.5 liter hybrid setup.
- 12:30Mike Marrs: Now, this is the new setup from Ford, 400 horsepower, 500 pound feet of torque.
- 12:35Mike Marrs: It's backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission.
- 12:38Mike Marrs: And this particular vehicle set up the way it is will tow 12,800 pounds and it'll haul 1,900 pounds.
- 12:45Mike Marrs: Now, again, this is a half-ton truck, so it should be about a thousand pounds, and that should be taken care of it, but it's got plenty.
- 12:51Mike Marrs: EPA says you should be looking for about 22 miles per gallon in the city, 24 out on the highway, and 23 combined.
- 12:58Mike Marrs: Now, I will say that I drove this vehicle 325 miles and I got 21.2.
- 13:04Mike Marrs: Now, 54.3 miles of that was actually on the electric portion of the hybrid.
- 13:08Mike Marrs: So it worked out really well.
- 13:10Mike Marrs: The uh and it does have a really nice luxury ride for a full-size pickup.
- 13:15Mike Marrs: It's got great acoustics in it, so that audio is really sounds really well.
- 13:20Mike Marrs: It's nice and quiet out on the highway, and you can tell that you're really into a more of a luxury setting than what the other truck was.
- 13:27Mike Marrs: Uh, it really surprised me that there was really that much difference in it.
- 13:30Mike Marrs: Now, the base trim price for this vehicle is$74,805.
- 13:36Mike Marrs: Uh as tested with destination,$79,825.
- 13:41Mike Marrs: So it's right at$80,000.
- 13:42Mike Marrs: But you can get into an F-150, you really can into it for$46,690.
- 13:48Mike Marrs: So if you're looking for something to compare that to, a Ram$1500 crew cab setup, it's about$45,120.
- 13:54Mike Marrs: Even the Toyota Tundra, which is a little higher priced, always has been,$44,235.
- 14:00Mike Marrs: Wow.
- 14:00Mike Marrs: And the GMC Sierra is at$45,995.
- 14:04Mike Marrs: So they're all right there together at the entry level portion of it.
- 14:07Mike Marrs: And again, this is a really nice riding and driving truck.
- 14:10Mike Marrs: It don't let the King Ranch idea think that it's a real rough and tumble four by four that you're going off-roading in.
- 14:16Mike Marrs: It's not, it's a luxury vehicle through and through, and I really appreciate the opportunity to drive it.
- 14:22Don Armstrong: Let's go to the symphony on a Saturday night in the F-150.
- 14:26Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 14:26Don Armstrong: All right, thank you, sir.
- 14:28Don Armstrong: Time now for the cruise in and events calendars.
- 14:30Don Armstrong: And by the way, before we get to that, I want to remind everybody that we are here at the Lupi Tortilla Tex-Mex for this East Texas tailpipes and tacos.
- 14:41Don Armstrong: And I will tell you that uh there's a lot of cars here.
- 14:44Jeff Dziekan: In the bustling town of Beaumont.
- 14:46Don Armstrong: Yeah, and uh it's uh certainly open to all spectators.
- 14:49Don Armstrong: The event is free to everybody.
- 14:51Don Armstrong: Get yourself a free uh taco here with donation.
- 14:56Don Armstrong: With a donation to Shirley's kids.
- 14:58Don Armstrong: All right, time now for the cruise in and events calendars.
- 15:01Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 15:01Jeff Dziekan: Now this is for next Saturday.
- 15:02Jeff Dziekan: It's Lamar Consolidated Auto Fest.
- 15:05Jeff Dziekan: Uh it is at the LCISD Nanatorium, which is the pool area for the uh school.
- 15:12Jeff Dziekan: Uh the register to pay for the event is the 10th annual uh Auto Fest Car Show.
- 15:17Jeff Dziekan: It's a fundraiser hosted by the Lamar Consolidated Automotive Technology Program.
- 15:21Jeff Dziekan: So you get in there and uh you make donations.
- 15:24Jeff Dziekan: They've got uh DJ, door prizes, car show, food, moonwalk, stuff for the kids to do.
- 15:29Jeff Dziekan: Uh they got a swap mate, so go on out there.
- 15:31Jeff Dziekan: This is next Saturday, the 28th, from 9 a.m.
- 15:34Jeff Dziekan: to 1 p.m.
- 15:35Jeff Dziekan: at the Nedatorium in the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District.
- 15:39Jeff Dziekan: Then you've got uh next Saturday the All Mustang Car Show at the Kema Boardwalk.
- 15:43Jeff Dziekan: How about that?
- 15:44Jeff Dziekan: Starts at 9 a.m., goes to whenever.
- 15:47Jeff Dziekan: It's at 739 2nd Street in Kema, Texas.
- 15:50Jeff Dziekan: Uh all Mustang car shows will take place at the Kema Boardwalk.
- 15:54Jeff Dziekan: Uh it would be registrations available only on the day of the show, no pre-registration offered.
- 15:59Jeff Dziekan: Then 1-4 next Saturday as well.
- 16:01Jeff Dziekan: You've got the 2026 Rolls-Royce Owners Club, Texas Regional Car Show.
- 16:06Jeff Dziekan: You're going to that, aren't you?
- 16:07Jeff Dziekan: I'm going to take my Buick.
- 16:09Jeff Dziekan: Uh, it's at the Carter Creek Winery and Spa.
- 16:12Jeff Dziekan: Just go out there for the Winery and Spa.
- 16:14Jeff Dziekan: You don't have to take your Rolls-Royce.
- 16:16Jeff Dziekan: It's at 4064 West U.S.
- 16:18Jeff Dziekan: Highway 290 in Johnson City, Texas, which is out west of here.
- 16:22Jeff Dziekan: Uh the event is scheduled for 9 o'clock.
- 16:24Jeff Dziekan: Uh they say till about noon, but it'll probably go a little bit further.
- 16:27Jeff Dziekan: And then next Sunday, you've got the Brazoria County Cars and Coffee at Lake Jackson.
- 16:32Jeff Dziekan: It's in Lake Jackson.
- 16:33Jeff Dziekan: 221 Parkingway Street.
- 16:36Jeff Dziekan: Uh organizers emphasize no revving of motors and all that stuff.
- 16:40Jeff Dziekan: Just be respectful, go out there.
- 16:41Jeff Dziekan: Oh yeah.
- 16:42Jeff Dziekan: And stop that.
- 16:43SPEAKER_05: And stop revving that motor.
- 16:44SPEAKER_05: Shame on you.
- 16:45Jeff Dziekan: Who do you think you are?
- 16:47Jeff Dziekan: No, no sirenes either.
- 16:48Jeff Dziekan: No sirenes.
- 16:49Jeff Dziekan: Not sirenes.
- 16:50Jeff Dziekan: And then you got Cars Coffee and Quesadilla Cruz.
- 16:55Jeff Dziekan: This is in Rolette, Texas, which is east of Garland, I believe.
- 16:59Jeff Dziekan: Rowlett, Rollett, east of Garland, north of Dallas.
- 17:02Jeff Dziekan: It is at 1914 Lakeview Parkway.
- 17:04Jeff Dziekan: Get on up there and get yourself some quesadillas.
- 17:07Jeff Dziekan: And we're going to have some today, I'm sure.
- 17:09Jeff Dziekan: So there you go.
- 17:10Don Armstrong: I think I hope so.
- 17:11Don Armstrong: I hope so too.
- 17:13Don Armstrong: I hope that all works out for us and we can make it back on I-10 without some stoppage for four hours and rerouting traffic through Neeterville and Winnie to get out of Beaumont today because of the mess.
- 17:27Don Armstrong: You know, it's truly amazing to me.
- 17:31Don Armstrong: It's truly amazing to me that there is such a huge turnout here with a jacked-up freeway and a jacked up way to get here.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: It's been here so long that everybody's got used to being jacked up, so they just go with the flow.
- 17:45Don Armstrong: All right.
- 17:47Don Armstrong: Okay, uh, are you gonna do driving destinations?
- 17:49Don Armstrong: Would you please do driving destinations?
- 17:52Don Armstrong: No, right, brother.
- 17:52Don Armstrong: Get just set up.
- 17:54Jeff Dziekan: Get me set up, brother.
- 17:55Mike Marrs: There you go.
- 17:55Mike Marrs: It's all yours, brother.
- 17:57Mike Marrs: All right, so we have some people come over from Louisiana.
- 18:00Mike Marrs: Again, it's not very far over to Louisiana, and we got so we got a lot of out-of-town people coming in, so I thought we would look at some of the things that since you're here in Southeast Texas, you can start with by going downtown Beaumont to the Texas Energy Museum.
- 18:12Mike Marrs: And this is really where you're gonna get the whole old oil story for the area.
- 18:16Mike Marrs: Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange make up the Golden Triangle.
- 18:19Mike Marrs: Literally, at one point, we were doing 25% of the nation's gasoline was produced here and shipped out.
- 18:25Mike Marrs: Some of the largest refineries in the country and the world are located in the Golden Triangle area.
- 18:30Mike Marrs: So this really sets up if you want to see about the drilling technology and the things that go into making the global energy markets and our position as a country in that, this is a great place to go and it is air conditioned.
- 18:42Mike Marrs: The second thing, while you're down there, you could go to the art museum of Southeast Texas.
- 18:46Mike Marrs: Now, this is a little bit quieter than the energy museum.
- 18:50Mike Marrs: Got a lot of uh regional and contemporary artworks, even though it does have a lot of industrial roots to it.
- 18:56Mike Marrs: Now there's a lot of rotating exhibits, so it kind of keeps things different, but it is more of an art museum.
- 19:02Mike Marrs: Then while you're down there, go a couple of blocks over and you get to the Fire Museum of Texas.
- 19:07Mike Marrs: This is the state museum or the fire museum of Texas.
- 19:10Mike Marrs: It's located in a 1927 fire station that was actually built back then.
- 19:15Mike Marrs: And it's got a lot of history in it in the exhibits because you can explore antique fire engines back into the 1800s.
- 19:23Mike Marrs: Got a lot of interactive displays for the kids, kind of keep them busy.
- 19:26Mike Marrs: And then while you're there, right outside the front door, is the world's largest working fire hydrant.
- 19:32Mike Marrs: Now, this is literally a 24-foot Dalmatian-spotted structure.
- 19:36Mike Marrs: Disney was using that to film 101 Dalmatians, and so once they got through with it, because it wasn't very far away here that they were doing that in Southeast Texas, they donated it to the State Fire Museum.
- 19:47unknown: Very cool.
- 19:48Mike Marrs: Then on the way, we're gonna head a little south, and we're going to go down to the Spindletop Gladys City Boom Tom Museum.
- 19:55Mike Marrs: I've been there.
- 19:57Mike Marrs: It's a very cool place.
- 19:58Mike Marrs: It is got a lot of things there if you get it at the right time.
- 20:00Mike Marrs: They actually have an oil derrick there.
- 20:02Don Armstrong: They also have an old gasoline tanker truck in the barn.
- 20:08Mike Marrs: I think it was in one of the pictures.
- 20:10Mike Marrs: And they have a place for uh like a livery stable set up, but they'll set up and recreate the spindle top gusher that really kicked off the oil industry down here.
- 20:18Mike Marrs: And it's a real nice place to go, and it's located right there on the Lamar University.
- 20:23Mike Marrs: Then we're gonna go down south, back down towards Port Arthur, where you're gonna get to the Museum of Gulf Coast.
- 20:28Mike Marrs: Now, this is one of the places it's got a lot of local history in it, including uh locals like Janice Joplin, Jimmy, Jimmy Johnson.
- 20:37Mike Marrs: It's got a sports section in it to where you're gonna find you know Bum Phillips, Wade Phillips, things like that, and a lot of the other players have got a music section where Janice is.
- 20:47Don Armstrong: And let's not forget the uh the famous golfer Babe Zaharius.
- 20:50Don Armstrong: I think she was from the Larry McGilllicudty.
- 20:52Mike Marrs: Larry McGillicuddy was there.
- 20:53Mike Marrs: Yeah.
- 20:53Mike Marrs: Was he?
- 20:53Don Armstrong: Yeah, I think so.
- 20:54Don Armstrong: Oh, Mr.
- 20:54Don Armstrong: McGillicutty.
- 20:56Don Armstrong: Okay, just say so.
- 20:57Mike Marrs: It's a great place to go down there.
- 20:58Mike Marrs: It's in downtown Port Arthur, and there's a lot of stuff in there that's uh that you will recognize, but you won't recognize that it's from Port Arthur.
- 21:05Don Armstrong: Then from the We don't recognize anything at this point in our lives.
- 21:08Don Armstrong: Are you kidding?
- 21:09Mike Marrs: Yeah, from your fingers am I holding up?
- 21:11Mike Marrs: Four.
- 21:12Mike Marrs: Then you're gonna go across the Rainbow Bridge.
- 21:14Mike Marrs: Now it's this is how you get it.
- 21:17Mike Marrs: Are they driving Subaruos?
- 21:19Mike Marrs: No, I just said that.
- 21:21Mike Marrs: Now, this is a kind of a steep incline, got sweeping views on it, and it's great for going up over the Natchez River on your way over to Orange.
- 21:30Mike Marrs: It's one of the tallest bridges and structures that's here in Southeast Texas.
- 21:36Mike Marrs: And once you get across there, you're going over to into Orange, you're gonna go to the Stark Museum of Arn of Art, and this is in the cultural district, the downtown in Orange.
- 21:45Mike Marrs: You're gonna find a lot of paintings and sculptures, Native American artifacts that are around in there.
- 21:50Mike Marrs: So it's got a lot of setups in that regard.
- 21:52Mike Marrs: Now, across the street from that is the Stark House.
- 21:56Mike Marrs: Now, this is a house, an 1894 Queen Anne home.
- 22:00Mike Marrs: That was built by the uh the Starks.
- 22:03Mike Marrs: You can actually go into all three of the floors.
- 22:06Mike Marrs: This place is 14,000 square feet.
- 22:09Mike Marrs: If you want to see how people lived in the late 1800s, early 1900s, uh, I guess what you would call it the luxury at the time, because that's what this was.
- 22:17Mike Marrs: So it's a great recreation and it's a great place to go and see how things work.
- 22:21Mike Marrs: And then while you're in orange, to wrap things up, go over to the Shangri-Law Botanical Gardens.
- 22:25Mike Marrs: Now, this is 250 acres along Adams Bow.
- 22:28Mike Marrs: It's got a lot of walkways, it's got uh garden paths, wetlands, and it's got a lot of things that you can go in if you enjoy bird watching and getting out into nature.
- 22:37Mike Marrs: It's got themed gardens, and it's really a cool even kids.
- 22:41Mike Marrs: I mean, they go out there because it's out in literally 250 acres in the swamp, and you can go see a lot of cool stuff.
- 22:46Mike Marrs: So that's just some things you can do while you're here in southeast Texas.
- 22:51Mike Marrs: And you're here for the tail pipes and tacos here in Beaumont.
- 22:56Don Armstrong: Well, thank you, Mr.
- 22:57Don Armstrong: Mars.
- 22:58Don Armstrong: I know I I've always wanted to go to Shangri-La.
- 23:01Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:02SPEAKER_05: But uh I haven't ever been, but apparently it is here.
- 23:05SPEAKER_05: You missed it.
- 23:06SPEAKER_05: I I've missed it.
- 23:06SPEAKER_05: My wife's been to Shangri-La.
- 23:08SPEAKER_05: I haven't been to Shangri-Law, but my wife's been to Shangri.
- 23:10SPEAKER_05: Not not through you, that's for sure.
- 23:15Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, it's more like Shanghai.
- 23:17Jeff Dziekan: Shanghai.
- 23:18Don Armstrong: That's it.
- 23:19Don Armstrong: Um did want to give you a brief news story here, but U.S.
- 23:22Don Armstrong: tariffs have cost automakers at least$35.4 billion since last year.
- 23:31Don Armstrong: An enormous sum that reflects how dramatically and quickly the President's trade policies have impacted the industry.
- 23:38Don Armstrong: As according to an automotive news analysis of automaker financial reports, they're available through mid-March.
- 23:44Don Armstrong: It includes full-year tariff costs for 2025 as well as projections through March of this year when available.
- 23:50Don Armstrong: Tariff costs vary widely by Automaker.
- 23:52Don Armstrong: They are dependent on how much of a company's U.S.
- 23:54Don Armstrong: lineup is shipped from overseas and where they source key parts from for their U.S.
- 23:59Don Armstrong: production.
- 24:01Don Armstrong: Toyota appears poised to receive the biggest tariff bill of any automaker projecting one point four five trillion, that's in the end.
- 24:12Don Armstrong: $9.1 billion in cost in its 2026 fiscal year, which ends March 31st.
- 24:18Don Armstrong: Tariffs cost the Detroit Automaker three uh six point five billion dollars in 2025.
- 24:24Don Armstrong: I just wanted to pass that along to you.
- 24:28Don Armstrong: Most automakers I've read are absorbing most of that cost, uh, and they're also having to take the hit on the electric vehicles.
- 24:36Don Armstrong: Tariffs are also impacting which models automakers import to the United States, and one of them includes Jefferson Beewey, because they've decided that it's such a popular vehicle that they are going to start building it here in the United States because it's been built in China.
- 24:55Don Armstrong: It's a Chinese.com.
