- 0:01Mizrahi, Inspiration. Shit #12.
- 0:05Those of us not yet privileged to live in the Holy Land might
- 0:08find ourselves doing some soul searching at the end of today's
- 0:11learning, but by teach us that living in Israel is equal in
- 0:15scale to all of the mitzvaht in the Torah?
- 0:18It's an awesome idea. Obviously, this emphasis does
- 0:21not come to render all the other mitzvaht superfluous.
- 0:23You can't just live in Israel, not in kosher, not Duchabas,
- 0:26etcetera. Every mitzvah is integral part
- 0:29of the big picture of the 613 commandments.
- 0:33But the mitzvah of living in Israel is not just an ordinary
- 0:35commandment, it's an all-encompassing mitzvah, the
- 0:39fundamental prerequisite for the Jewish people to be able to
- 0:42function again, not as individuals.
- 0:45We can do that just fine outside, but as a nation, which
- 0:49is ultimately what we're meant to be, the genuine keeping of
- 0:53the ties only in the Land of Israel and every other place.
- 0:56The commandments are imposed as a way of a reminder so that when
- 0:59we return we will know how to keep them based on the Madras,
- 1:05based on the on the rambal, on the Torah we have Svioda Cook
- 1:09based this on earlier sources which Rashi quotes in his
- 1:13commentary to post. It says even though I'm exiling
- 1:17you from Israel to outside the land, distinguish yourself with
- 1:20the commandments so when you return they will not seem you.
- 1:25Rushy comments. This is like a king who became
- 1:26angry at his wife and sent her back to her father's house.
- 1:30He said to wear your jewelry so it won't seem new to you when
- 1:33you return to the palace. So I cut the sporical said to
- 1:36the Jewish people of my sons, distinguish yourself with
- 1:39mitzvahs so when you return they won't be new to you.
- 1:42That's what the prophet Jeremiah said.
- 1:44Set up Marcus for yourself. Make yourself signpost so you'll
- 1:47know how to live in the Promised Land.
- 1:52The true intended place from its fault is the Land of Israel.
- 1:55The purpose in Gallatin exile is to keep us attached to the
- 1:58Torah, so when we return it'll all be familiar and we will know
- 2:04that how to live in the maximal maximum possible way as
- 2:08individuals, collectively as a nation in the Holy Land.
- 2:12This teaching of the Rabbi tells us that Land of Israel is not
- 2:15merely A geographical out, geographical homeland, but a
- 2:18foundation of true Torah observance.
- 2:23The Land of Israel is the place designed for us, both in the
- 2:25communal sense and individual life as well of every single
- 2:29Jew. Here we are at home.
- 2:31Here we're a family, the guard tells us.
- 2:33The air is has special spiritual qualities.
- 2:37The air makes you wise. Something about being attached
- 2:40to the source of life and vitality transforms the Jew.
- 2:44Or in the words of Rabbi Yehuda Halevi, the Khuzari.
- 2:47The air of your land is the breath of our soul.
- 2:54Just think for those of us who are still stuck outside the land
- 2:57of Israel, how much of our mindset of our experiences are
- 3:01not Jewish, our influence from the surrounding culture.
- 3:05We don't even think in national concepts because what do you
- 3:08mean we have our own? We have courts, the British
- 3:11courts, the American courts. We have culture, which is all to
- 3:15do with this country that we find ourselves living in.
- 3:21That's the case. And we have to recognize the
- 3:22impact of that Redemption is become something very
- 3:26complicated for us because we many people don't feel that
- 3:30we're living in exile. We don't feel that we're
- 3:33disconnected to Torah because we're not even aware of the
- 3:36profanity and the depth of meaning that one can have in the
- 3:39land of Israel to connect to Torah.
- 3:41We have a Judaism, but if we didn't, it's a little bit fake.
- 3:46We have to strive for authenticity, strive for
- 3:49something more real. In contrast, out to Israel,
- 3:54outside of Israel, the air is impure, the land is impure.
- 3:58Even holacically, the diaspora is categorized as possessing a
- 4:02seat of spiritual defilement similar to that of a grave.
- 4:07So my friends, let's dove and heart.
- 4:10Let's pray to merit to go home and those who are listening who
- 4:14are already living in the home. Your challenge is also that
- 4:18because you have to recognize that maybe you did, but maybe it
- 4:20just becomes forgotten about in the passage of time.
- 4:25The significance of being able to live there and the difference
- 4:29between a Jewish experience in the homeland to those who live
- 4:33outside. My friends have a great day.
