- 0:02Speaker 1: What did you just spare in your face James Trump
- 0:05Speaker 1: supporter Mario Vanesca. Oh yeah, oh yeah, baby, Oh I
- 0:11Speaker 1: feel refreshed. I didn't know Mario Vadesca was a Trump supporter.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean anybody with a name like that. Mommy,
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'm from a Long Island. How come we don't have
- 0:27Speaker 1: a segregation anymore? Wow? Girl? The kind of the entire
- 0:37Speaker 1: year has been leading up to this. Ever since we
- 0:40Speaker 1: first got those set photos of Lady Gaga and Adam
- 0:46Speaker 1: Driver in the snow. In the snow, we have been
- 0:50Speaker 1: waiting to talk about father son House of Gucci, and
- 0:54Speaker 1: today we are doing that with the perfect person to
- 1:00Speaker 1: talk about, truly perfect a a a Gaga scholar, a
- 1:04Speaker 1: movie critic, if you will, of which we are not. Yes,
- 1:08Speaker 1: Hunter Harris is here to talk about House of Gucci
- 1:11Speaker 1: with us. Also, I will say that, yes, I know,
- 1:14Speaker 1: this podcast is about us looking at yesterday's pop culture
- 1:18Speaker 1: and giving it today's takes. But this podcast is also
- 1:21Speaker 1: about popping your cherry about parts of pop culture that
- 1:25Speaker 1: you have an experience yet, and none of the three
- 1:29Speaker 1: of us, Fran Hunter I have seen House of Gucci,
- 1:33Speaker 1: so we are experiencing it for the first time along
- 1:36Speaker 1: with all of you. So today we are losing our
- 1:39Speaker 1: virginity with Lady Gaga in her sex scene with Adam Driver. Yeah,
- 1:44Speaker 1: just about the sex scene just forty five minutes. We're
- 1:46Speaker 1: going to talk about that sex scene. Rose, But before
- 1:49Speaker 1: we get to that, we're going to you know, do
- 1:51Speaker 1: some for play with the news of the week to
- 1:53Speaker 1: talk about what's going on in pop culture. So, as
- 1:56Speaker 1: I said, this is like a virgin I'm Rose, damn you,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and I'm fran Toronto. Let's get into it. The big
- 2:05Speaker 1: thing that I've been dealing with for for the past
- 2:07Speaker 1: week is just a lot of online shopping. It's like
- 2:11Speaker 1: become very toxic at this point. I honestly, I I
- 2:14Speaker 1: thought I was so alone in what is a morbid,
- 2:18Speaker 1: if not disgusting addiction to shopping. Um from myself. We
- 2:23Speaker 1: are together, well, when we started to become friends years ago,
- 2:27Speaker 1: it really it became quite clear very quickly that you
- 2:31Speaker 1: are just as sick in the head as I am. Well,
- 2:34Speaker 1: you know, I'm a tourist rising and I do like
- 2:35Speaker 1: to fill like the black pit of emptiness inside me
- 2:38Speaker 1: with things. I will also say, I mean not to
- 2:42Speaker 1: blow up our spot, but like, we worked in queer
- 2:44Speaker 1: media for a very long time, which is to say,
- 2:47Speaker 1: we were extremely underpaid for our jobs for an extremely
- 2:50Speaker 1: long time and have only ever operated under scarcity mentality.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So when you and I, for the first time in
- 2:56Speaker 1: our lives, have just a little bit of expendable income,
- 2:59Speaker 1: all of a sudden, any Instagram, I become the target
- 3:02Speaker 1: demographic for literally any product. Oh my god, I'm so
- 3:06Speaker 1: susceptible and like and like sometimes when I like send
- 3:09Speaker 1: people things that I want to buy, what I want
- 3:12Speaker 1: is for them to talk me out of it. Yeah,
- 3:15Speaker 1: you can't get wrong the wrong girl, because all you're
- 3:19Speaker 1: gonna do is say, oh, yeah, that's cute, Like why
- 3:21Speaker 1: don't you get this too? Why didn't you get this
- 3:23Speaker 1: more expensive version of I do? I do sometimes say like, no,
- 3:27Speaker 1: that's ugly. No, it's the wrong color, the wrong patterns
- 3:29Speaker 1: something I am ethical but fair. Um, But I do
- 3:34Speaker 1: feel for the most part, if you text me some
- 3:38Speaker 1: shopping link, I'm going to tell you to buy it. Yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 1: I mean. And Black Friday was like very dark this
- 3:44Speaker 1: year because Black Friday was the day that Stephen Sondheim
- 3:47Speaker 1: died and I was actually at the Mall in in
- 3:50Speaker 1: Florida when I found out, like walking through Nordstrom looked
- 3:55Speaker 1: down and gasped when I saw that Stephen Sondheim had
- 3:58Speaker 1: passed away. I think it's important text for the virgins
- 4:01Speaker 1: as well, that like, obviously we're always sad when like
- 4:05Speaker 1: cultural beham moths like pass away. But Sondheim is specifically
- 4:09Speaker 1: so one of your people. Oh, like so important to
- 4:13Speaker 1: me as a like theater kid who grew up loving
- 4:20Speaker 1: musical theater. Um, you know some of my favorite musicals
- 4:24Speaker 1: are Stephen Sondheim musicals. Um, I guess, like as sad
- 4:29Speaker 1: as I've been, it also has been very comforting just
- 4:34Speaker 1: to see someone pass away, but to know like that
- 4:38Speaker 1: they lived such a full life at the way that
- 4:42Speaker 1: Stephen Sonheim did, in the way that he contributed to culture.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I mean, he is, I do think, without hyperbole, the greatest,
- 4:54Speaker 1: most prolific queer artist of our lifetime, like we we don't.
- 5:00Speaker 1: The other thing is like his style of like how
- 5:03Speaker 1: he created his own work has influenced like an entire
- 5:07Speaker 1: genre of musical theater, like an entire yeah, and an
- 5:12Speaker 1: entire general like multiple generations of creators. He fundamentally changed
- 5:18Speaker 1: the landscape of American musical theater. And you know, when
- 5:21Speaker 1: we had the hot topic conversation and I couldn't think
- 5:24Speaker 1: of my favorite Tim Burton movie, it actually really was
- 5:27Speaker 1: Sweeney Todd and that was obviously in no small part too,
- 5:30Speaker 1: like how gorgeous the music is. Yeah, I mean, honestly,
- 5:33Speaker 1: Sweeney Todd is. I don't think it's a great movie,
- 5:37Speaker 1: but I haven't rewatched so, but it's an incredible musical,
- 5:41Speaker 1: incredible musical. I think I snuck actually took a bunch
- 5:44Speaker 1: of my cousins and we snuck into the theater to
- 5:47Speaker 1: go see that. And I think I told my parents
- 5:49Speaker 1: we were seeing like National Treasure too or something like that. Um,
- 5:53Speaker 1: I love Stephen Sondheim and I am sad that now.
- 5:57Speaker 1: My my friend Ryan said like that he was sad
- 6:01Speaker 1: that we'll never get to go to Steven Sonheim's Sex Dungeon,
- 6:04Speaker 1: which was like rumored to be a thing. Really. Yeah,
- 6:08Speaker 1: there's been so much TV coming out recently, and I
- 6:11Speaker 1: was very excited that Gossip Girl came out. It is
- 6:15Speaker 1: tis the damn season for gossip Girl. Like it was
- 6:18Speaker 1: just Thanksgiving and one of the only things that I
- 6:21Speaker 1: have to watch every year on Thanksgiving is the gossip
- 6:24Speaker 1: Girl Thanksgiving episode Blair Waldorf must Pie and I have
- 6:29Speaker 1: never actually seen the o G Gossip Girl. I think
- 6:31Speaker 1: I watched the first episode. Um, we obviously will be
- 6:34Speaker 1: doing an episode of the podcast on the o G
- 6:36Speaker 1: Gossip Girl. Well, my former roommate was in this batch
- 6:40Speaker 1: of episodes. Yeah, my my old roommate and friend, Cole
- 6:44Speaker 1: doman Um was in the third of the recent drop
- 6:48Speaker 1: of episodes. He plays the like demon twink that um
- 6:52Speaker 1: Aki goes on a date with my God, and he
- 6:55Speaker 1: was perfect. This reboot specifically really does champion, if not
- 7:00Speaker 1: encourage demon twink behavior, and that I think is maybe
- 7:04Speaker 1: one of like the things that is like most disturbing
- 7:06Speaker 1: to me about this rebote, even though I can't take
- 7:08Speaker 1: my eyes off of it. What do you love about
- 7:10Speaker 1: you know? It's it's gossip Girl, it's the drama, it's
- 7:13Speaker 1: new the new Oh, the soundtrack and this this current
- 7:16Speaker 1: crop of episodes definitely have some good needle drops. There
- 7:20Speaker 1: was a tailor song writer, Bunny as a writer. There's
- 7:23Speaker 1: an Olivia Roderick. You're your favorite Trader love Trader Um.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I do kind of need at some point for the
- 7:33Speaker 1: minion of Julian of the Zion and Zion I need
- 7:39Speaker 1: her to have like her own identity and storyline. These
- 7:43Speaker 1: characters need once and needs, they need desire. They they
- 7:47Speaker 1: only exist in proximity to the other characters, and like
- 7:51Speaker 1: when one of them is a black girl and the
- 7:54Speaker 1: other is trand and like to have them have like
- 7:58Speaker 1: no identity, like we don't nothing about them. I totally agree.
- 8:01Speaker 1: It's very like Flatsam and Jetsam, pain and panic in hercules,
- 8:05Speaker 1: like the two Crowns, just like the Lackeys, which is
- 8:07Speaker 1: like which is part of the Gossip Girl legacy. Like
- 8:10Speaker 1: you know, Blair in the original had minions who I
- 8:14Speaker 1: think she literally called minions, and they did not really
- 8:18Speaker 1: have identities and like only existed to serve her. But
- 8:22Speaker 1: I would hope that in Gossip Girl two point oh,
- 8:25Speaker 1: like flash off those characters a little. I want to
- 8:27Speaker 1: know more about their interior lives. I will say that
- 8:29Speaker 1: in the trailer for the next batch of episodes, Zion
- 8:34Speaker 1: like was kissing someone, so maybe we'll see character okay. Um.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I also have to say something that I very much
- 8:43Speaker 1: so appreciated about this latest drop of episodes was a
- 8:47Speaker 1: very necessary um cultural critique on uh Santa Con, which
- 8:53Speaker 1: is the worst thing that New York City does in
- 8:57Speaker 1: like the history of New York. It is a stain
- 8:59Speaker 1: on the legacy of New York. I did appreciate that
- 9:01Speaker 1: because I don't think there's another like TV show that
- 9:04Speaker 1: has has dealt with Santa Con like that, and how
- 9:07Speaker 1: horrible it is. Should we describe for people that don't
- 9:09Speaker 1: know what Santa Con is, like what, like what is it?
- 9:11Speaker 1: Santa don't we can actually know what it is. Santa
- 9:14Speaker 1: Con is when the inhabitants of murray Hill and Williamsburg
- 9:19Speaker 1: dress up in Santa Yeah, dress up in Santa alfits
- 9:23Speaker 1: and do a bar crawl around New York City. If
- 9:25Speaker 1: they're not in murray Hill, they're fight eye guys. It's
- 9:28Speaker 1: like very fight eye BROWI It's like cis culture, It's
- 9:31Speaker 1: heterosexual culture. It's an excuse today drink outside wearing Santa costumes.
- 9:36Speaker 1: And I have seen with my own eyes Santa's stripping
- 9:41Speaker 1: on the streets. I've seen many Santa I've seen at
- 9:44Speaker 1: least to Santa's bar like on the street in like
- 9:48Speaker 1: Lower Manhattan. I have seen some Santa's do disgusting things,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and I cannot believe that it still exists as a
- 9:54Speaker 1: cultural object. I definitely have before, like been on grinder
- 10:00Speaker 1: ring Santa Con and had someone hit me up and
- 10:04Speaker 1: it's like, say they were at Santa Con, And I've
- 10:06Speaker 1: had to have that moment of checking in with myself saying,
- 10:10Speaker 1: am I about to invite someone in a Santa costume
- 10:13Speaker 1: over to my apartment and possibly engage in some kind
- 10:16Speaker 1: of Santa role play? And I never have, And honestly,
- 10:20Speaker 1: I'm kind of sad that that's an experience I've missed.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I absolutely would have. I absolutely would have, but I
- 10:26Speaker 1: would have been it. Maybe one day I will. Yeah,
- 10:29Speaker 1: who who you know? One day? Who knows? What else
- 10:33Speaker 1: have you been watching? Recently? I watched UM the Janet doc.
- 10:37Speaker 1: The so the New York Times did the Brittany doc
- 10:39Speaker 1: that everyone was talking about this year that you know whatever.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Very I thought it was like an okay documentary, but
- 10:46Speaker 1: maybe they were like the first to really consolidate all
- 10:50Speaker 1: of these things that had happened to Brittany and in
- 10:52Speaker 1: a place where everyone was going to watch it. Um,
- 10:54Speaker 1: but they did a new one with basically the same
- 10:56Speaker 1: conceit for Janet Jackson and what happened to her at
- 10:59Speaker 1: the a Bowl and when Justine Chamberlake exposed her sexually
- 11:05Speaker 1: assaulted her on stage basically, and then she was like
- 11:08Speaker 1: beyond the height of her career, a legend, a like
- 11:12Speaker 1: completely a complete mononym as a pop star, and then
- 11:16Speaker 1: all of a sudden her career came to a screeching
- 11:18Speaker 1: halt because of that moment. And you know, I thought
- 11:22Speaker 1: I was going to go into it being like, oh,
- 11:24Speaker 1: this is just gonna make me mad all over again,
- 11:26Speaker 1: but I actually felt it was pretty well reported and
- 11:30Speaker 1: I really appreciate it. And Jenna Weretham, who does still processing.
- 11:34Speaker 1: It's like a friend of mine and she was in
- 11:35Speaker 1: the documentary and she everything she said was so amazing. Um.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And I also loved that they included women and their
- 11:43Speaker 1: opinions in this documentary because the Brittany Dock like all
- 11:46Speaker 1: they had was that evil lawyer and then those like
- 11:49Speaker 1: two bloggers that were kind of like, I guess, the
- 11:51Speaker 1: comedic relief of the documentary, and so with this one,
- 11:54Speaker 1: I felt like they may be honestly solved for that,
- 11:58Speaker 1: and like the sources were overwhelmingly women, which I appreciated. However,
- 12:03Speaker 1: I really wish that they had angled the story a
- 12:08Speaker 1: little more on Janet, Like the way that the sources
- 12:12Speaker 1: were arct was really more about the build up leading
- 12:17Speaker 1: up to the Super Bowl and how it was already
- 12:19Speaker 1: an extremely high stakes environment involving the culture wars of
- 12:24Speaker 1: that era and like religious fanatics basically really really trying
- 12:27Speaker 1: to crack down on what is on broadcast television. And
- 12:31Speaker 1: and then you have Janet who is a woman who
- 12:34Speaker 1: is sexually liberated, and like society doesn't know what to
- 12:36Speaker 1: do with that, and so obviously there was it was
- 12:39Speaker 1: an explosive moment, but all in all, I felt like
- 12:43Speaker 1: satiated that it is a conversation we should continue to
- 12:48Speaker 1: have about Janet and who she was and like what
- 12:51Speaker 1: she still can contribute to what we're doing culturally. And
- 12:55Speaker 1: I really hope that the gays listening to this are
- 12:58Speaker 1: going to rally around Janet the way we're raillying around Brittany.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Obviously not to conflate the two obviously completely different situations,
- 13:05Speaker 1: but I would just hope that culturally we understand like
- 13:10Speaker 1: what Janet has done and continues to do. UM, were
- 13:13Speaker 1: you a virgin? A Janet stand? I I do like Janet.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I really like UM. When I was in college, was
- 13:18Speaker 1: right when Discipline came out that which has feedback on
- 13:23Speaker 1: it amazing song. Um, did you see that Grimes has
- 13:28Speaker 1: made her return to social media. Yeah, it's it's it's
- 13:32Speaker 1: you know, on on the day that we're recording this
- 13:33Speaker 1: podcast really only in its seminole uh kind of phase,
- 13:38Speaker 1: but I feel like this is going to be a beat.
- 13:40Speaker 1: We will continue to reports watch. Yeah, So what did
- 13:45Speaker 1: she say? Actually didn't Actually she came she came back
- 13:47Speaker 1: to TikTok and was like talking about how she's traumatized
- 13:52Speaker 1: from being so in the public spotlight and how she
- 13:58Speaker 1: now wants to start using her platform to have like
- 14:01Speaker 1: radically transparent conversations about like wealth distribution. Um, it's such
- 14:07Speaker 1: a hard and fast turn. Yeah, you know she used
- 14:11Speaker 1: the word traumatized. Yeah, she did. That sucks and like
- 14:14Speaker 1: I mean I'm sure it was traumatizing. Yeah. Yeah, you know,
- 14:19Speaker 1: like we will truly never understand what it's like to
- 14:22Speaker 1: be famous on that scale of Um. At the same time,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you know, as like many people in the comments were saying,
- 14:31Speaker 1: it's just very hard to have sympathy for her. So
- 14:35Speaker 1: you know, like we'll see if if she does anything
- 14:38Speaker 1: more than like stage photos of her reading the Communist Manifesto.
- 14:43Speaker 1: But I I you know, I remain a Grimes fan.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I do love her music, and I mean ultimately, like
- 14:48Speaker 1: this is all promo because she did announce that she
- 14:51Speaker 1: has a new song coming out. You are kidding, No,
- 14:55Speaker 1: you're kidding me. Fuck, that's so hard. Well, I think
- 14:59Speaker 1: now the biggest thing on my mind is now that
- 15:01Speaker 1: we're past Thanksgiving, it is Christmas. I mean well, I
- 15:06Speaker 1: mean technically we're in the middle of Hanagah right now.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Hogsa maya to all my my Jewish girls out there.
- 15:12Speaker 1: But we are fully in Christmas mode. I told you
- 15:16Speaker 1: about this. Yesterday. I was listening to a Christmas pop
- 15:20Speaker 1: playlist and the most curse Christmas song I've ever heard
- 15:24Speaker 1: came on. It's called Stretchy Pants by Carrie Underwood, and
- 15:28Speaker 1: it's about wanting to wear your stretchy pants during the
- 15:32Speaker 1: holidays so that you can eat as much as possible.
- 15:36Speaker 1: And she does say in the song that she doesn't
- 15:39Speaker 1: want to wear those other bridges a queen of rhymes,
- 15:44Speaker 1: What does she rhyme bridges with? I don't remember. I
- 15:46Speaker 1: hope it's bitches or witches. It's not bitches. It's like
- 15:50Speaker 1: you like expect the word to be bitches. And she says, Bridges,
- 15:54Speaker 1: you sent me this song, and I think that Megan
- 15:57Speaker 1: Trainer should send a cease and desist because it is
- 16:00Speaker 1: a Megan Trainer or you a trainer. They're not called
- 16:06Speaker 1: according to me, they aren't. So it was just Thanksgiving.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Thanksgiving famously all about family, and I spent my Thanksgiving
- 16:29Speaker 1: with my family, by which I mean with Lady Gaga,
- 16:33Speaker 1: because Lady Gaga is my mother, sister, grandmother, wife, daughter, father, father, son.
- 16:40Speaker 1: House of Gucci. Um. That is the voice of Hunter Harris,
- 16:44Speaker 1: who we have in the studio today. Writer Um, creator
- 16:48Speaker 1: of amazing newsletter Hung Up that I read obsessively, honestly
- 16:52Speaker 1: several times. Letter that's like worth the subscription, honestly, Like
- 16:56Speaker 1: newsletters are like hard to you know, everyone has a newsletter.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Newly minted writer on Gossip Girl, Yes, and her historian
- 17:05Speaker 1: of Gaga's acting career. I mean, you've been on it
- 17:09Speaker 1: on the beach. I'm happy to have gotten on the
- 17:10Speaker 1: ground level with the star was born and now listen,
- 17:14Speaker 1: I can watch a budding actor really take her thrown.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Have you seen the film like multiple times at this
- 17:21Speaker 1: point or have you only seen it once. I've only
- 17:23Speaker 1: seen how a Gucci once and that is because it's
- 17:26Speaker 1: very long and it just came out like four days ago.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Did you see it in theaters or did you get
- 17:31Speaker 1: a screener? What was the situation? No, no no, no, I
- 17:34Speaker 1: saw it in theaters. I saw it like I escaped
- 17:36Speaker 1: my family on Thanksgiving Day and said, I am leaving
- 17:39Speaker 1: for an appointment, and I just went to see it
- 17:42Speaker 1: by myself. I had an appointment with the Lord, and
- 17:46Speaker 1: so it was me by myself at the Cinemark Tulsa.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And I, okay, I'm actually so glad you asked, because
- 17:56Speaker 1: it was pretty incredible. Um so, Like I was the
- 18:00Speaker 1: first one in the theater, but just embarrassing, sitting in
- 18:03Speaker 1: the very back row on like the far right corner.
- 18:07Speaker 1: And um, I like saw people like filing in. It
- 18:10Speaker 1: was like a bunch of like like couples, like adults, um,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and every husband was like talking to each other about
- 18:16Speaker 1: like the football game that was I guess on at
- 18:18Speaker 1: the same time, and well, listen, they have their religion
- 18:22Speaker 1: and I have mine. Um, And like these two husbands
- 18:26Speaker 1: were like, man, I wish I was watching the game
- 18:29Speaker 1: as their guys, Like yeah, me too. And their wines
- 18:33Speaker 1: are like like shushing them. Um and it's it's actually
- 18:37Speaker 1: a cinema theater, not like like not an AMC. So
- 18:40Speaker 1: I did not get to see the Nicole Kidman like
- 18:43Speaker 1: heartbreak feels good in a place like this? Is that
- 18:46Speaker 1: what it is? Some of her best work? I listen.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I don't believe she. I think that Nicole Kidman wrote, directed,
- 18:55Speaker 1: um Ran produced that entire like Cinna Mark or AMC
- 19:01Speaker 1: doesn't know that that exists. What's your jet? It's her
- 19:05Speaker 1: like ideal setup. Do you like have snacks? Do you
- 19:08Speaker 1: like have a do you need to have something that
- 19:10Speaker 1: you need when you go to the like to see
- 19:12Speaker 1: a movie? Um, it depends. My favorite movie theater in
- 19:15Speaker 1: New York is the Battery Park Regal because it's in
- 19:18Speaker 1: between listen, it's in between a shake shack and a
- 19:22Speaker 1: bagel place, and I would love to take my little
- 19:25Speaker 1: snacks and they wouldn't ever care if I smuggle at
- 19:27Speaker 1: something in I loved the Battery Park Theater that was
- 19:31Speaker 1: like I mean, it was always empty. There was kind
- 19:34Speaker 1: of a Whole Foods nearby, so I could grab a
- 19:35Speaker 1: sandwich and like walking and they never cared and never
- 19:38Speaker 1: cared r I P because I guess it's doesn't exist anymore.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Question mark. I'll say Father's Son House of Gucci to
- 19:45Speaker 1: our fallen soldier. So is that our new punctuation for everything?
- 19:50Speaker 1: Father's Son has a Gucci? Like? Does it apply to
- 19:52Speaker 1: every situation? I say it out of context all the time,
- 19:55Speaker 1: all the time. I went to Catholic school. It just
- 19:58Speaker 1: like rolls off the tongue. O. Really, So were you
- 20:00Speaker 1: having some throwbacks from There's not really a ton of Catholicism,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I guess in the movie, but there's like a it's implied,
- 20:06Speaker 1: it's I mined because it's Italian Italian and they are
- 20:10Speaker 1: you are in a church at some point? Yeah, oh yeah,
- 20:12Speaker 1: for the wedding scene, yes, yes, And it doesn't that
- 20:14Speaker 1: fight outside of the church, Yes, it doesn't. Doesn't Mauricio
- 20:18Speaker 1: say that he wants Gucci to be like a church
- 20:21Speaker 1: of fashion. Oh yes, the Vatican of fashion. Right, that's
- 20:25Speaker 1: the moment, which, honestly I loved that line. That was
- 20:27Speaker 1: on my favorite lines in the movie especially. I think
- 20:30Speaker 1: it contectualises really well, like how Gucci had entered her
- 20:34Speaker 1: flop era, Like generally, Yeah, it was like an interesting
- 20:38Speaker 1: point for like the film in general to come in
- 20:40Speaker 1: and like I'd be curious to know just like on
- 20:42Speaker 1: a first impression or even we can start from the
- 20:44Speaker 1: beginning of the movie, because I feel like I thoroughly
- 20:47Speaker 1: enjoyed the first thirty minutes of the movie and like
- 20:50Speaker 1: them falling in love and like all that stuff, and
- 20:52Speaker 1: then felt a different way. But like, what were you
- 20:54Speaker 1: feeling about it? It was just like there's so much
- 20:56Speaker 1: happening in Like Lady Gaga is so perfect at like
- 20:58Speaker 1: being this like flour being like in love. That's iff
- 21:02Speaker 1: I thought I found very compelling and it's like so funny.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Like to contrast her against Adam Driver, who as an
- 21:08Speaker 1: actor bass was a character. It was like so much
- 21:10Speaker 1: more straight lay, so much more serious, and he did
- 21:12Speaker 1: not seem as playful even their meat cute at that party,
- 21:16Speaker 1: She's like at home like this disco scene, and he's
- 21:19Speaker 1: like behind the bar for no reason, question mark. I mean,
- 21:23Speaker 1: I don't know, but he was wearing that bad wig badly.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Um your thoughts on the wig, Okay, I think that
- 21:32Speaker 1: the wig budget on House of Gucci was lower than
- 21:35Speaker 1: the last tool because the last tool had better whigs.
- 21:37Speaker 1: I guess probably fewer of them too, but like Adam
- 21:41Speaker 1: Driver's wigs were not very good in House with Gucci,
- 21:43Speaker 1: and I was kind of disappointed Gaga's wigs. I mean,
- 21:46Speaker 1: they were gotgags. You know, whoever is doing the film
- 21:51Speaker 1: is not doing Gogga's wigs. House of Gaga is doing makeup, wigs, everything,
- 21:57Speaker 1: which I think really speaks to Patriots yet in this
- 22:00Speaker 1: world right that she's like sort of um an interloper,
- 22:04Speaker 1: a new person, like fish out of water, like she
- 22:07Speaker 1: should feel sort of out of top. And it was
- 22:09Speaker 1: funny to like kepting like a visual gag for the
- 22:11Speaker 1: whole movie, that she's just more more dressed than everyone,
- 22:15Speaker 1: Like other people like just wearing clothes, but Gaga is
- 22:18Speaker 1: like wearing fashion and every single scene, and I that
- 22:21Speaker 1: was like sort of one of my favorite parts about
- 22:23Speaker 1: her performance in this What did you think, I mean,
- 22:26Speaker 1: what were you prepared for it? Going into House of Gucci?
- 22:30Speaker 1: I heard, I was okay. I don't think I heard
- 22:33Speaker 1: anything like super Pro or super Con. I honestly I
- 22:36Speaker 1: would like it more, but I did feel like it,
- 22:38Speaker 1: like the plotting of the movie, like the script itself,
- 22:41Speaker 1: felt kind of bloated in a way that I thought
- 22:44Speaker 1: really like undercut its momentum, so a lot of times
- 22:46Speaker 1: I was like, okay, here I go, like sitting through
- 22:49Speaker 1: like ten boardroom scenes like I really don't care about,
- 22:53Speaker 1: like I just want to see I just want to
- 22:56Speaker 1: see more of like Gaga and Salamahai talking about like
- 22:59Speaker 1: no more spells like we need like Mamahias showed up.
- 23:02Speaker 1: I cackled very it was amazing. I agree, Like I
- 23:08Speaker 1: think the first like weirdly very much like A Star
- 23:11Speaker 1: is Born, which I think is a great movie up
- 23:15Speaker 1: through shallow and then kind of falls apart. Um. I
- 23:18Speaker 1: think House of Gucci is really great up until kind
- 23:22Speaker 1: of like the sex scene, the wedding to exqueeze me. Oh,
- 23:29Speaker 1: the sex scene incredible. That was the moment where I
- 23:32Speaker 1: was like, this is going to be the best movie ever.
- 23:34Speaker 1: And then it But but it had been talked up
- 23:37Speaker 1: so much, like what was it? Um, they were on
- 23:40Speaker 1: some talk show and someone was saying, this is the
- 23:42Speaker 1: best sex scene that's been in a film in years,
- 23:44Speaker 1: and it was that. It was really just like like
- 23:50Speaker 1: I hadn't seen that much about the sex scene. I
- 23:52Speaker 1: just like saw people talking about it, and I was like,
- 23:55Speaker 1: it's going to be like wild and not that's gonna
- 23:57Speaker 1: be good, It's gonna be crazy. And I could not,
- 24:00Speaker 1: in my wildest dreams have imagined that it was going
- 24:03Speaker 1: to be just like this, like so much grunting. I
- 24:07Speaker 1: was like, gotta what with very girls. I will say
- 24:12Speaker 1: it was the most sex scene that I've ever witnessed,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and well yeah, well everyone, it was the most of
- 24:20Speaker 1: many things. It was the most sex scene. It was
- 24:22Speaker 1: the most looks, it was the most acting. There was
- 24:26Speaker 1: so much acting happened to varying degrees of success. Yes,
- 24:31Speaker 1: My like, my biggest takeaway from the entire movie, which
- 24:34Speaker 1: I think you can see very clearly in that sex
- 24:36Speaker 1: scene too, is that it's like Adam Driver's in one
- 24:39Speaker 1: movie and Gaga was like just simply in three other
- 24:42Speaker 1: different movies and different. Jared Leto isn't Jared Letto is
- 24:47Speaker 1: on in a movie. He's like in a sketch room.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I think you should leave. That was like I was
- 24:52Speaker 1: actually surprised that I didn't really mind like the prosthetics
- 24:55Speaker 1: so much with him, but he just was so like
- 24:57Speaker 1: cartoonish and I was like, wait, nothing, this person is
- 25:00Speaker 1: saying can I take seriously or even feels like important
- 25:03Speaker 1: to any other story and all of his punch lines
- 25:05Speaker 1: were like it was like, it was very like it
- 25:08Speaker 1: was very totally off from what everything else that was happening.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I honestly felt like they could have fully cut Jared
- 25:14Speaker 1: leto and it would have been a tighter, better movie,
- 25:18Speaker 1: right because nothing, nothing like regarding him actually held any weight.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Like all of the al Pacino stuff could have existed
- 25:25Speaker 1: without that character intact, and it would have been just
- 25:28Speaker 1: like as compelling of a of an arc there and
- 25:31Speaker 1: al Pacino was great, incredible listen father's son al Pacino, Um,
- 25:36Speaker 1: I will always read for my man. To me, like
- 25:43Speaker 1: there was this very fast transition between what was demure,
- 25:49Speaker 1: I'm just an accountant, Gaga, I'm just like an innocent
- 25:52Speaker 1: girl who's kind of weirdly obsessed with this guy, maybe
- 25:55Speaker 1: for a money reason, to like, I have a mullet
- 25:58Speaker 1: now and I'm worrying, I have added shoulders and I
- 26:01Speaker 1: have a bullet, and I care a lot about these
- 26:03Speaker 1: counterfeit bags. And to me, it was like, I mean,
- 26:06Speaker 1: I don't say this as a critic, I say this
- 26:08Speaker 1: as as a faggot. This movie would have done really
- 26:12Speaker 1: well with a makeover montage. You know what I mean,
- 26:15Speaker 1: or something that like showed Gaga's kind of like come
- 26:20Speaker 1: up in or her just like her moral center kind
- 26:24Speaker 1: of shifting. I think she could have used orange hair.
- 26:31Speaker 1: She has to be a brunette when she has the accent.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I mean she said that herself in the contract. It did.
- 26:37Speaker 1: It did make me think of how there was like
- 26:40Speaker 1: a story circulating after a Star is Born where she
- 26:43Speaker 1: was talking about how when the movie ended she had
- 26:45Speaker 1: to shake off Ali and so then the night that
- 26:48Speaker 1: she wrapped, she bleached her hair blond again. And I
- 26:51Speaker 1: was a girl, it's going to fall out to chill,
- 26:55Speaker 1: you know. But the thing is, like a Gaga, It's
- 26:57Speaker 1: in her contract. She has to be Burnett. She has
- 27:00Speaker 1: to have a gay best friend in every movie. She
- 27:03Speaker 1: had a gay best friend in this movie for half
- 27:04Speaker 1: a scene. Did you notice that, Oh, the guy that
- 27:06Speaker 1: she went to the park just go with ye yeah
- 27:08Speaker 1: yeah like um. And she also has to, I would
- 27:15Speaker 1: wager always have a scene with a bathtub, and she
- 27:17Speaker 1: had to in this movie. Her bathtubs three she had three, right,
- 27:21Speaker 1: We're right, the one at the very end, yes, resonant
- 27:26Speaker 1: bathtub scene. I will say this. I was so like,
- 27:32Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I don't ever going to catch on fire,
- 27:34Speaker 1: Like there were so many candles around. I was like,
- 27:35Speaker 1: this is like maybe too many, and then I was
- 27:37Speaker 1: like no that definitely they were added in posts like
- 27:39Speaker 1: no candles like choked that well on camera. Um, it
- 27:43Speaker 1: does seem like the kind of movie though, where if
- 27:44Speaker 1: he had accidentally caught on fire, they would have kept it. Oh,
- 27:48Speaker 1: for sure there was something. Yeah, you feel like there
- 27:52Speaker 1: were some moments where that they kept, like when Gaga's
- 27:54Speaker 1: hat fell off, for like, there were other little moment
- 27:56Speaker 1: there were a lot of improvisation. Father son House of
- 28:00Speaker 1: Gucci famously improvised. I guess you know she did go
- 28:03Speaker 1: to the Bradley Cooper school of acting, where things aren't written,
- 28:07Speaker 1: they are felt in the moment. I will say, speaking
- 28:09Speaker 1: of m Bradley Cooper, I kept imagining him watching this
- 28:13Speaker 1: movie a little makeup wipe in his pocket, just like
- 28:17Speaker 1: just just go to the screen and just like wipe
- 28:19Speaker 1: off the makeup. It sounds like like the lipstick. I
- 28:21Speaker 1: was like, he's having a fit right now watching he was.
- 28:26Speaker 1: He was watching it thinking, you're so fucking also improvised
- 28:33Speaker 1: that famously. Yeah, that movie A Star was Born had
- 28:37Speaker 1: no script. It had it had like vibes and grunts
- 28:41Speaker 1: and like tequila. Didn't they do that for Yes? Yes?
- 28:46Speaker 1: And Bronzer. Wasn't that what they did for um Blue
- 28:48Speaker 1: Valentine sorry to invoke her name. Remember that Ryan Gossling
- 28:51Speaker 1: Michelle Williams movie. Remember that was almost rated NC seventeen
- 28:55Speaker 1: because of the sex scene. Yes, I remember it. I
- 28:58Speaker 1: almost get kicked out of that movie. That was like
- 29:00Speaker 1: the word because I was seeing it and I think
- 29:03Speaker 1: it was like umift and so I had like, you know,
- 29:07Speaker 1: it's like whatever, I take it fort her movie and
- 29:10Speaker 1: then like running that one, and I think that like
- 29:13Speaker 1: the theater had like known that, like teens were sneaking
- 29:15Speaker 1: in this is like you know, also peak rng Gossling.
- 29:18Speaker 1: That was like such a formative movie for me being
- 29:21Speaker 1: on Tumblr. Don't think method act in that that didn't
- 29:23Speaker 1: the director be like Okay, go into this room and
- 29:26Speaker 1: have a fight or something like that, or yeah, I
- 29:28Speaker 1: think so, But I don't know the thing about the
- 29:30Speaker 1: House of Gucci. It's like the improv in this movie
- 29:33Speaker 1: is just like at a different like vibration than because
- 29:37Speaker 1: it's just like Gaga as an actress, as Patrizia as
- 29:42Speaker 1: someone who like has his hair like it was just
- 29:45Speaker 1: because she is, she is the final word on who
- 29:49Speaker 1: this woman is, even though this woman is a real person.
- 29:52Speaker 1: When she said no one was going to tell me
- 29:54Speaker 1: who patreats Gucci is not even Gucci, I said amen,
- 29:58Speaker 1: and I said and I said, didn't thank you? And
- 30:01Speaker 1: I said, thank you. It's just like it's so it's
- 30:05Speaker 1: actually funny because before I came here, I was like,
- 30:07Speaker 1: you know, prepping, and I was rereading, um all of
- 30:11Speaker 1: the stuff that actual Gucci family had said when they
- 30:13Speaker 1: were shooting it, and like you know, there was like
- 30:15Speaker 1: paparazzi photos of like how everyone looked and the fact
- 30:18Speaker 1: that the Guccies, who own none of the company, we're
- 30:20Speaker 1: going so hard, Like Alpaccino is ugly in this movie,
- 30:24Speaker 1: and my great great uncle was not ugly. He wasn't
- 30:27Speaker 1: a handsome Italian man. I was like, first of all,
- 30:30Speaker 1: how dare you? And second of all, what bullying? Cyber
- 30:38Speaker 1: bullying Alpacrino. It's like, oh my gosh. And there's like
- 30:42Speaker 1: they're saying that like Jared Leto, I mean, I don't
- 30:44Speaker 1: like to acknowledge Jared Little's presence in this movie, but
- 30:48Speaker 1: that he looked so ugly and that it was like
- 30:50Speaker 1: an embarrassment to their family. I was like, okay, kind
- 30:52Speaker 1: of go in. Also, I'm sorry your family is embarrassing,
- 30:56Speaker 1: like objectively like girl, like this is all embarrassing. That's
- 31:00Speaker 1: they made a movie about it. Someone who works with
- 31:02Speaker 1: Gucci told me that Patricia actually never wore Gucci. She
- 31:05Speaker 1: was always in St. Laurent. So the Gucci family I'm
- 31:10Speaker 1: sure took a fue with that too. There were a
- 31:11Speaker 1: lot of choices they had made in this film, but
- 31:14Speaker 1: I wish that they had made more choices about focusing
- 31:17Speaker 1: on what Gaga was doing, because she was the best part.
- 31:20Speaker 1: She was like the shining star of the movie. I
- 31:22Speaker 1: know she should have been lit actually in every shot,
- 31:25Speaker 1: and like my favorite part of it were her reactions.
- 31:29Speaker 1: There's one scene that's really stuck with me, and it's
- 31:32Speaker 1: when she's leaving their ski chalet and he's looking at
- 31:35Speaker 1: the window and she's getting in the car and I'm
- 31:37Speaker 1: going to turn. She looks back up in the window
- 31:41Speaker 1: and it's just the camera on her face looking at
- 31:43Speaker 1: him for like too long. Mascara stayed in her ches truly,
- 31:53Speaker 1: like does like Gaga's faces and this are so funny
- 31:56Speaker 1: because she she had like the big expressive eyes and
- 31:58Speaker 1: there was like looking at you the eyes truly It's
- 32:04Speaker 1: like if looks could kill, I remember would have been
- 32:07Speaker 1: dead at like truly twenty minutes and like that was, um,
- 32:12Speaker 1: you know, she is like very she does have a
- 32:14Speaker 1: very expressive face. Like I think the movie made good
- 32:17Speaker 1: use of that. In terms of like Gaga performances and
- 32:20Speaker 1: scenes that stuck out to me. The first one that
- 32:23Speaker 1: I think of is, um, well, okay, important contexts actually
- 32:26Speaker 1: to talk about our movie viewing experiences. Um, I saw this.
- 32:30Speaker 1: There was like an early release on Tuesday before Thanksgiving
- 32:34Speaker 1: in West Hollywood, and so I went basically, what is
- 32:38Speaker 1: opening night in West Hollywood? And sigh, but I did,
- 32:44Speaker 1: And of course I go into this movie and it's
- 32:45Speaker 1: like just all like just it packed with like the
- 32:50Speaker 1: kind of whitest like gayest men you've ever seen in
- 32:53Speaker 1: your life. And so when Nicole Kidman like sat down
- 32:57Speaker 1: like to do like her thing in my AMC stuff
- 33:00Speaker 1: rewards like the theater whatever she goes in and one
- 33:05Speaker 1: of one of the girls is like yes, Nicole, like
- 33:08Speaker 1: like fully, heckly, what's happened? So this was like the
- 33:14Speaker 1: ambiance that I'm in, we were people wearing Gucci. That's
- 33:17Speaker 1: an important question. I didn't see any Gucci. The look
- 33:21Speaker 1: in Hollywood is like I just left the gym, like
- 33:24Speaker 1: I'm in Lulu Lemon, Like I that disrespectful. It is disrespectful.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Are you wearing Gucci when Gucci? Girl? No, I was
- 33:35Speaker 1: wearing this vintage sweatshirt. I wore Gucci for this record.
- 33:39Speaker 1: But it's the but you know, it's just a little
- 33:41Speaker 1: not Anyways, there's a scene where Gaga and Adam Rever
- 33:45Speaker 1: and her kids are sharing like a Christmas together and
- 33:48Speaker 1: their mayor just kind of falling apart, and they're exchanging
- 33:52Speaker 1: gifts and the second Gaga opens the package and she
- 33:56Speaker 1: pulls out this thing and she says a Bloomingdale gift card.
- 34:01Speaker 1: The entire theater just like a chorus of like gay gas.
- 34:07Speaker 1: He might as well have slapped her in the face.
- 34:10Speaker 1: In the face, honestly, he should wake up and apologize.
- 34:13Speaker 1: It was one of the most emotionally devastating things I
- 34:16Speaker 1: had ever seen, And it's because of how God got
- 34:18Speaker 1: carried that moment, but also because I was in a
- 34:21Speaker 1: crowd of people that felt the exact same thing. I did.
- 34:24Speaker 1: I honestly would love a Bloomingdale's gift card as a gift.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Is House of Gucci a Christmas movie? Now? Canonically? Absolutely?
- 34:31Speaker 1: Are we like putting it in the same category as
- 34:33Speaker 1: the Holiday? And Dr seusays, how the Bridge still Christmas?
- 34:38Speaker 1: I will yeah, I'll call it a Christmas movie? Will
- 34:40Speaker 1: you be watching it again? Do you have a desire? Yes?
- 34:47Speaker 1: Because and this is how I feel about the movie.
- 34:48Speaker 1: It's like, for how much of it, I really just
- 34:51Speaker 1: kind of like sat through the parts that hit hit
- 34:55Speaker 1: so like precisely and pristinely, like the Bloomingdale scene, um,
- 35:00Speaker 1: other scenes like the scene um like I mean like
- 35:04Speaker 1: the sex scene, like the bathtub scene. I mean this
- 35:07Speaker 1: is like random, but I was obsessed with the Anna
- 35:11Speaker 1: Wintour Andre Leon Tally scene. It is it is like
- 35:14Speaker 1: actually pure comedy, like like all the tom Ford stuff too,
- 35:17Speaker 1: was just so like crazy. I was like, what am
- 35:21Speaker 1: I witnessing right now? Other than like actually like an
- 35:24Speaker 1: SNL sketch. Um, well that's what the trailer felt like.
- 35:27Speaker 1: I for like the whole lead up to this movie,
- 35:29Speaker 1: did not think it was a real movie. I thought
- 35:31Speaker 1: it was annel digital short based on the trailer. UM
- 35:35Speaker 1: and I can't believe it actually exists. No. Watching it,
- 35:38Speaker 1: I was like, I cannot believe it, Like this is
- 35:39Speaker 1: the accent that we're really getting for an entire movie,
- 35:43Speaker 1: every fire movie, and everyone talks about Gaga's accent, and
- 35:46Speaker 1: really it was Adam whose accent was bad, every every accent, everyone,
- 35:51Speaker 1: all of us in this room. Could anyone else have
- 36:11Speaker 1: played this role? I really don't think so. M M
- 36:15Speaker 1: a canonically Italian woman? What act what canonically Italian actress? Well,
- 36:19Speaker 1: I mean this script had gone around for what like
- 36:22Speaker 1: ten years or something like a lot of a lot
- 36:24Speaker 1: of actress. Yes, a lot of actresses came in and
- 36:27Speaker 1: actually should I look it up? So Angelina Jolie and
- 36:33Speaker 1: Leonardo DiCaprio were rumored to play Patricia and Maurizio. That's crazy.
- 36:38Speaker 1: It was going to be missed for and Mrs Smith
- 36:40Speaker 1: as a period in piece. What would that have been
- 36:44Speaker 1: a better movie? I think that movie would have been
- 36:48Speaker 1: so much more about like like the actual palace intrigue
- 36:51Speaker 1: of like Who's gonna take a ver Gucci? Like much more.
- 36:54Speaker 1: This is like not to make this comparison like a succession.
- 36:57Speaker 1: He kind of look at like a volley for Power,
- 37:00Speaker 1: And I actually liked that, Like the Gaga version of
- 37:03Speaker 1: this movie was not so much about the belt about
- 37:04Speaker 1: the volley for power that it was more about like,
- 37:07Speaker 1: you know, this woman really coming in and shaking up
- 37:10Speaker 1: this family. Um, And I think that like that was
- 37:14Speaker 1: I think you kind of saw at least I felt
- 37:16Speaker 1: like I saw like like the remnants of like a
- 37:18Speaker 1: different kind of movie in this one where it's like,
- 37:20Speaker 1: oh my gosh, here we go, like talking about business again,
- 37:24Speaker 1: math again. Although I will say that, um, oh my gosh,
- 37:29Speaker 1: who's um Jack Huston. I really liked him in this
- 37:34Speaker 1: as just um, like the advisor, like the second in
- 37:37Speaker 1: command to who eventually became the CEO. Yes, I mean Trader.
- 37:44Speaker 1: He related girl Boss his way. This this movie was
- 37:47Speaker 1: guy's like GATECPE girl Boss from different. I didn't think
- 37:51Speaker 1: like um for Treaty was like a girl boss ahead
- 37:54Speaker 1: of her time, like to as O N Like where
- 38:03Speaker 1: did you notice that? Like what what moments are you
- 38:05Speaker 1: clocking the girl bossiness? Well in the first scene when
- 38:08Speaker 1: she is like they shouldn't be like selling fakes and
- 38:11Speaker 1: then another scene when she s our name um, And
- 38:20Speaker 1: there's one other scene when she is like when she's
- 38:23Speaker 1: fussing with Adam Driver, like in the Um when he
- 38:27Speaker 1: when he tells her like I don't want you involved,
- 38:28Speaker 1: like I don't want you giving me advice anymore, Like
- 38:31Speaker 1: she is like mine, I'm running the company, You're not
- 38:33Speaker 1: like the CEO of this business. And she was like
- 38:37Speaker 1: kind of despondent. I mean that I did feel like
- 38:39Speaker 1: she actually want to just be a businesswoman and also
- 38:41Speaker 1: just like kick him out specifically because she was so upset.
- 38:45Speaker 1: It is like a very like weird cautionary tale about
- 38:48Speaker 1: how about like um inspiring a man too much, you know,
- 38:55Speaker 1: like me, she did, and she gave him a taste
- 38:59Speaker 1: of power and then he realized he he liked it
- 39:02Speaker 1: after refuting it for so long and like wrestling with
- 39:05Speaker 1: those car mechanics or whatever. Yeah, and I do see
- 39:07Speaker 1: what you mean. Like if the movie had been maybe
- 39:10Speaker 1: more focused on Adam on Adam Driver, um, like it
- 39:14Speaker 1: would have been maybe a little bit more about that,
- 39:16Speaker 1: because you see like the glimmerings of that about how
- 39:19Speaker 1: you know, like around the Anna Wintour scene when he's
- 39:22Speaker 1: like buying all this ship and you know, really like
- 39:26Speaker 1: taking control of Gucci, Like there's kind of a different
- 39:29Speaker 1: movie than the one that Gaga's in. Um, And I
- 39:32Speaker 1: think like the disconnect is that those two are like
- 39:35Speaker 1: almost two at odds. Yeah, even like the tom Ford
- 39:38Speaker 1: stuff where you're seeing like this classic brand be revit
- 39:41Speaker 1: like you're seeing Adam Driver's plan for a couch like working.
- 39:45Speaker 1: That's it was interesting, but it kind of did feel
- 39:47Speaker 1: get detracted from, just like the drama of like this
- 39:50Speaker 1: crazy marriage in which like they are like trying to
- 39:54Speaker 1: fight over was ultimately his job, Like I didn't need
- 39:57Speaker 1: the stuff with the loafer, you know, the lower with
- 40:00Speaker 1: the gold leaf in the toe, and like as as
- 40:03Speaker 1: as as as emotional as al Pacino crying was, that
- 40:09Speaker 1: was really good. When he covered his face, I thought
- 40:12Speaker 1: immediately also also like trag, when is that going to
- 40:19Speaker 1: find its way onto your Twitter or into your news letter?
- 40:21Speaker 1: I mean as soon as possible. Honestly, here we go.
- 40:25Speaker 1: I buy such a moment. Yeah, it really was. It's
- 40:28Speaker 1: very like and you're kind of a Pacino scholar. I listen,
- 40:32Speaker 1: he said, I pretend I do not see it, Like
- 40:35Speaker 1: whatever is happening in this room, I don't want to
- 40:37Speaker 1: be a part of it. Um, I would be pissed
- 40:40Speaker 1: if Adam Driver came in with that wig and was
- 40:42Speaker 1: like trying to get me out of my own that
- 40:44Speaker 1: we also, like I don't believe. I guess, I mean,
- 40:48Speaker 1: this is probably it probably really happened, but it seemed
- 40:51Speaker 1: weird to me that at that point when Adam Driver
- 40:54Speaker 1: was like buying you know, like Lamborghinis and stuff, why
- 40:57Speaker 1: was he riding a bike? Well, I said, because like
- 41:00Speaker 1: it wasn't that long of a journey. But I do Italian,
- 41:04Speaker 1: I do want to go back to the scene in
- 41:06Speaker 1: the boardroom because that was my favorite scenes. Crazily, even
- 41:08Speaker 1: though I did not like all the business stuff. Um,
- 41:11Speaker 1: when Adam Driver just like has been in the next
- 41:13Speaker 1: room the whole time, like his family is like being
- 41:16Speaker 1: ripped apart, like drag within an edge of their life,
- 41:19Speaker 1: and he just like pops his head in like Trio
- 41:23Speaker 1: the whole time. It was very hey, guys, it's very
- 41:28Speaker 1: um Alyssa Edwards behind the two way mirror and drag
- 41:31Speaker 1: right all stars to um. I feel like, yeah that
- 41:35Speaker 1: I like cowardice. Cowardice. Yeah, those were the moments where
- 41:42Speaker 1: I was like I was like, give me the give
- 41:44Speaker 1: me the like the mumble car, give me, like say,
- 41:47Speaker 1: give me something from your character as like kind of
- 41:51Speaker 1: a I guess a weasel like that was the thing
- 41:53Speaker 1: to me, is like from Adam Driver specifically. I didn't
- 41:56Speaker 1: really know how I was supposed to feel about his
- 41:59Speaker 1: character at at many different moments, And at the beginning
- 42:02Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, this is a like I thought
- 42:05Speaker 1: they were trying to do the Gaga is the smart
- 42:08Speaker 1: business one and she is an accountant at you know,
- 42:11Speaker 1: with her the movie company, and like that's why she's
- 42:13Speaker 1: so good at this and all the different stuff, and
- 42:15Speaker 1: he like is this privileged kid who has no idea
- 42:17Speaker 1: what he's doing. And then they kind of discarded that immediately.
- 42:20Speaker 1: I think, honestly, there were a lot of the things
- 42:23Speaker 1: that I didn't like about the movie. I was like,
- 42:25Speaker 1: I wondered if it was because they were trying too
- 42:27Speaker 1: hard to stick to the true story, which wouldn't make
- 42:31Speaker 1: sense because they threw away so much of ther they
- 42:35Speaker 1: did not they could more artistically, and they like wedge
- 42:41Speaker 1: him in probably because of like his Gucci ambassadorship. I
- 42:44Speaker 1: feel like, right, yeah, and he was just in an
- 42:48Speaker 1: entirely different movie than the rest of them. He was
- 42:51Speaker 1: in that Marvel movie that he's going to be in
- 42:54Speaker 1: where he's the vampire superhero. I know you don't like
- 42:57Speaker 1: to technology as presence, but what were the things about
- 42:59Speaker 1: like his performance that you did not like? Um, I
- 43:02Speaker 1: don't know. I thought it like just so cartoonish and
- 43:05Speaker 1: clownish when it's like Gaga and also Adam Driver and
- 43:09Speaker 1: also Alpaco and everyone else, like no one was like silly.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Like he was just so silly that I was like,
- 43:14Speaker 1: it's actually hard to like square, Like that was like
- 43:17Speaker 1: the most totally incoherent part of the movie, but like
- 43:22Speaker 1: he injected into his veins, like it was just so like,
- 43:26Speaker 1: oh now we have like forty five minutes of like
- 43:29Speaker 1: fucking comic relief that no one really needs. Sort of
- 43:32Speaker 1: like the actual material itself was like funny and strange
- 43:35Speaker 1: and odd enough. I don't need like these like kind
- 43:38Speaker 1: of silly punchlines every like to end every scene to
- 43:42Speaker 1: drive home that like this is ultimately all kind of
- 43:44Speaker 1: like fashion and silly and funny and all that. It
- 43:47Speaker 1: just felt like really like nailing, like banging me over
- 43:51Speaker 1: the head with like this intense sort of like not
- 43:54Speaker 1: symbolism but just like metaphor. I don't know, I just
- 43:57Speaker 1: was onto that that part of it for me was
- 43:59Speaker 1: like it when it became a movie that was trying
- 44:03Speaker 1: to be a film. And I do think those are
- 44:05Speaker 1: like two very different things. Um, when Jared Letts like
- 44:10Speaker 1: character has like basically no function other than comedic relief,
- 44:14Speaker 1: I think it's kind of like I love that you
- 44:15Speaker 1: said like no one was silly except for him, because
- 44:18Speaker 1: I totally agree because Gaga brought camp, sure, but like
- 44:22Speaker 1: that doesn't make it silly. She's very intentional, she was
- 44:25Speaker 1: very grounded in her in her insanity, and he was
- 44:29Speaker 1: just like on a whole other like, I mean, okay,
- 44:33Speaker 1: the Anna Wintour was also very silly, yes, but that
- 44:36Speaker 1: was like a flash of just like you know, true comedy. Um,
- 44:42Speaker 1: but that's not goofy though, That's like not goofy in
- 44:44Speaker 1: the same way. And I found everything and it was
- 44:47Speaker 1: I think I'm not been thinking about it more. It's
- 44:49Speaker 1: like those that are just hit the same one note
- 44:51Speaker 1: of goofy nous in a way that I just was
- 44:53Speaker 1: like kind of off put by, if that makes any sense.
- 44:56Speaker 1: And it's like he was always like just cartoonishly pagerck
- 45:00Speaker 1: that I was like, you know, I've had enough of it.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I've had my fill of this actually, um, and would
- 45:05Speaker 1: love to just move on to I like the Ski
- 45:09Speaker 1: Shelley stuff. Oh excuse me, moment of silence for Gaga saying, oh,
- 45:15Speaker 1: you can escort her out. She kicked that woman, She
- 45:19Speaker 1: evicted her, her and her prosthetic nose. She said, cut
- 45:24Speaker 1: the camera's dead as was that a prosthetic? Yeah, because
- 45:27Speaker 1: that that that actress, that was not that's not what
- 45:30Speaker 1: she looks like. Okay, it was a bull choice, yeah,
- 45:35Speaker 1: giving giving her the hug and then get her out
- 45:38Speaker 1: of here. I will say like that was a moment
- 45:41Speaker 1: of betrayal that I haven't seen since like The Godfather.
- 45:45Speaker 1: It was like she kissed her and said get the
- 45:47Speaker 1: funk out, not even to her face, which is like,
- 45:51Speaker 1: somehow the worst rudest part of it, that you tell
- 45:54Speaker 1: someone else to make me leave. Just tell me yourself,
- 46:00Speaker 1: like I'm right here, and just say it to me.
- 46:02Speaker 1: And she did just kind of accept it. She knew
- 46:06Speaker 1: though she knew her time was up. Her entrance into
- 46:09Speaker 1: the film. I mean, I'm with a little jarring. Yeah, okay,
- 46:11Speaker 1: thank you. I thought maybe it was a me thing
- 46:13Speaker 1: because I'm really bad at retaining crucial information and films. Um,
- 46:17Speaker 1: but I when she like skied down and they started talking,
- 46:19Speaker 1: I was like, who is who is this supposed to be?
- 46:22Speaker 1: I was like, why is she important? Why? Why is
- 46:24Speaker 1: so much building up to like Adam Driver and her
- 46:27Speaker 1: cheating or what like. I just didn't see that coming,
- 46:30Speaker 1: I guess. And there were moments like that where I
- 46:32Speaker 1: was like, why are why is the screenwriter like really
- 46:37Speaker 1: just you know, betting that you're gonna know the original
- 46:39Speaker 1: story and moments like that, but then over explain like,
- 46:43Speaker 1: you know, things like Gaga forging the signature or whatever, right,
- 46:46Speaker 1: because that's what I found out, like seeing this movie
- 46:48Speaker 1: with my mom and then talking about it at Thanksgiving's, Like,
- 46:52Speaker 1: people who were culturally aware during the time that this
- 46:56Speaker 1: happened don't really remember it. I was going to ask
- 46:59Speaker 1: both of you how much if you how much you
- 47:01Speaker 1: knew going into it and of the murder of the story,
- 47:04Speaker 1: like if you had, like I don't know redit primers
- 47:06Speaker 1: and you know nothing. The only thing I knew was
- 47:08Speaker 1: that Patricia now like walks the streets of Milan with
- 47:11Speaker 1: a parrot on her shoulder. That was literally, yeah that's
- 47:15Speaker 1: what she does. Yeah, she's she's been released from prison
- 47:18Speaker 1: and she lives in Italy and is like known for
- 47:22Speaker 1: walking around with a parrot on her shoulder. There are
- 47:24Speaker 1: many photos I'm not Angucci in same around probably that is.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and she gets like a crazy amount of alimony.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Oh I did read that just today. Yes, it's like
- 47:36Speaker 1: like almost two million dollars I think a year, and
- 47:38Speaker 1: also like back paid from whenever she was in prison, right,
- 47:42Speaker 1: and she didn't receive those payments. Um, that's a lot
- 47:45Speaker 1: of parents. And I will say, we love divorce. Thank
- 47:47Speaker 1: God for not airtight prenup um. I also went into
- 47:51Speaker 1: a cold did you watch stuff? Did you? Because also
- 47:56Speaker 1: like I really had no idea about this before this
- 47:58Speaker 1: movie was announced, and I kind of wanted to go
- 48:00Speaker 1: in that way just because you know, whatever Gaga says
- 48:03Speaker 1: happened is what I believe happened is rewriting history. She's
- 48:09Speaker 1: writing history for the first time. Is yeah. I thought
- 48:15Speaker 1: to me, like moments like the bathtube scene or actually,
- 48:18Speaker 1: honestly another reason why Jared Letto was never needed. It's
- 48:22Speaker 1: like the natural comedy of like their meat cutes and
- 48:26Speaker 1: like that them getting to know each other and like
- 48:29Speaker 1: the little I mean they loved like a sharp cut
- 48:32Speaker 1: after like a jokey moment, like a lot of that
- 48:35Speaker 1: happening in the first three minutes. That to me was
- 48:37Speaker 1: like I would have watched that. I would have watched
- 48:40Speaker 1: two hours and thirty eight minutes of that, you know
- 48:42Speaker 1: what I mean, maybe not as you know, profound, as
- 48:46Speaker 1: like a financial thriller or whatever. And that was the movie.
- 48:48Speaker 1: And I also wanted more towards the end of her,
- 48:52Speaker 1: like post murder, because it felt very weird that it
- 48:56Speaker 1: was like he gets killed, she's in the bath having
- 49:00Speaker 1: that like kind of like sorrowful yet almost like orgasmic moment,
- 49:05Speaker 1: and then it's like two years later and she's in court,
- 49:07Speaker 1: Like I want to see more of that, Like that
- 49:10Speaker 1: was the interesting part to me. Um, So it was
- 49:13Speaker 1: kind of like upsetting that we didn't get more of it. Yeah,
- 49:17Speaker 1: I in a similar vein. I think I wanted to
- 49:19Speaker 1: see more of her dealing with a fallout from him
- 49:23Speaker 1: not being married to her anymore. Like I think we
- 49:26Speaker 1: only got maybe a couple of beats of her just
- 49:29Speaker 1: like being enraged that they weren't longer together because she did.
- 49:32Speaker 1: I think Goda came to this conclusion, and I think
- 49:34Speaker 1: you kind of get it from the movie too, that
- 49:35Speaker 1: like she did actually love him, like she loved him,
- 49:38Speaker 1: but she's also jealous of him, but she also presented
- 49:40Speaker 1: him and she also you know, thought that he was
- 49:42Speaker 1: like an idiot and like mismanaged the business all these things.
- 49:45Speaker 1: But I would have really loved to see a couple
- 49:47Speaker 1: more scenes of her, like being a single mom, like
- 49:50Speaker 1: being just pissed about. It escalates so quickly, like all
- 49:53Speaker 1: of a sudden, she's leaving him these wild voicemails and
- 49:56Speaker 1: casting spells against him, and then the where the stakes,
- 49:59Speaker 1: where of those stakes come from? And then she's like
- 50:01Speaker 1: getting divorce papers. She's like getting divorce papers at a
- 50:03Speaker 1: soccer game, it looks like. And then it's like leaving
- 50:06Speaker 1: all these angry voicemails. And I was like, hmm, interesting
- 50:09Speaker 1: heightening there. But I did read just today that Um,
- 50:13Speaker 1: in real life, Rittie went off to a business like
- 50:19Speaker 1: at a business trip and then just like didn't ever
- 50:22Speaker 1: come back. I was like, now that is t actually
- 50:27Speaker 1: break up the marriage, but that is how I will
- 50:32Speaker 1: end one day, maybe my second marriage. Okay, wait, speaking
- 50:35Speaker 1: of divorce, though, what song off of thirty was she
- 50:40Speaker 1: listening to? Oh my god, what's her song? Um? If
- 50:46Speaker 1: it's not I drink wine, it could have been to
- 50:51Speaker 1: be loved. Maybe maybe it was one of the angrier
- 50:54Speaker 1: songs and what do what song do you think it is?
- 50:59Speaker 1: I would say, can I get it? Can I get it?
- 51:02Speaker 1: She said? Can I get it? A little bit of
- 51:04Speaker 1: murder and I get it? Maybe women like me she
- 51:07Speaker 1: wired those Oh okay, interesting bull She wired three euros
- 51:14Speaker 1: to that hit man and she put drop the needle on.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Can I get She brought it in double bag do.
- 51:21Speaker 1: That scene was one of the highlights of the movie
- 51:23Speaker 1: to me, And like, I think her face in that
- 51:25Speaker 1: scene is like so memorable of her sitting at the table. Yes,
- 51:30Speaker 1: that scene could have been its own movie. Actually, like
- 51:33Speaker 1: just like the little ways, like the little just like
- 51:35Speaker 1: um misunderstandings between these assassins and these two women who
- 51:40Speaker 1: were like I'm actually trying to pay you and you're
- 51:42Speaker 1: like not letting me and Sma hyak with the like
- 51:44Speaker 1: hot topic red hair, oh yes, and she's like, this
- 51:48Speaker 1: is not the number that we agreed upon. Actually, you
- 51:50Speaker 1: cannot up charge me right now. Selma was incredible, under
- 51:54Speaker 1: underutilized completely. That's why I was like, if we took
- 51:58Speaker 1: movies now Colonels and House of Gucci where I wanted
- 52:02Speaker 1: more Salma Hunter you disagree, Listen, you put some in
- 52:07Speaker 1: a mud bath and that is money well spent. That
- 52:12Speaker 1: was incredible. That was so luxurious. That was like finally
- 52:15Speaker 1: a little bit of like actually true weirdo luxury in
- 52:19Speaker 1: this movie. And they're talking about spells and also like
- 52:22Speaker 1: this was like I wanted to see one of the
- 52:23Speaker 1: spells though I could have. I could on for a spell.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Maybe that was one of the cut scenes. I could one.
- 52:28Speaker 1: But it's also funny that it's like the guc Is
- 52:31Speaker 1: are like very Catholic and like they're very Italian, and
- 52:34Speaker 1: yet she said, you know toiled toiled boiler. Yeah, I
- 52:43Speaker 1: feel like when I feel like, I mean, oh, I
- 52:46Speaker 1: forgot to I forgot to say um. After Angelina Jolie
- 52:50Speaker 1: didn't work out for Patrizia, they then reached out to
- 52:53Speaker 1: Penelope Cruz and then they talked to Margo Robbie. What
- 52:59Speaker 1: they are is a version of this movie where Margot
- 53:02Speaker 1: Robbie plays are you a Robbin Easta? I mmmm? Not
- 53:10Speaker 1: over Goda, No, no I am. But that would have
- 53:12Speaker 1: been such a different movie, Like I think it would
- 53:15Speaker 1: have been almost sadder in a way. I mean, at
- 53:19Speaker 1: the top of my mind right now is Margot Robbie
- 53:20Speaker 1: and Titania, which I find like a very tragic performance.
- 53:25Speaker 1: And and I don't know that I really want Patriotia
- 53:27Speaker 1: to be like sad in this, Like I kind of
- 53:29Speaker 1: like that Gaga leaned so much into the rage of
- 53:32Speaker 1: this woman who again grew up as too close to
- 53:35Speaker 1: the sun. Absolutely, because you have to understand why she
- 53:39Speaker 1: is led to having him literally murdered, right she said, Actually,
- 53:43Speaker 1: it's not enough that you like if you are not
- 53:45Speaker 1: with me, you know, with an Nie one, and you
- 53:48Speaker 1: can tell that this is a bad romance. You can
- 53:51Speaker 1: know that, you know, Gaga did at least google Patrizia,
- 53:55Speaker 1: because if you google image searcher, every single photo is
- 53:59Speaker 1: like you which eyes filled with rage. She just looks
- 54:02Speaker 1: rageful in every single image. You know. It was another
- 54:25Speaker 1: scene that this was like a very jarring moment for me.
- 54:29Speaker 1: The scene where they go on the boat and she
- 54:32Speaker 1: folds her coat up to put it on the floor.
- 54:36Speaker 1: It was like two, I guess, like give him head.
- 54:42Speaker 1: It was so weird but beautiful, Okay, I was gonna
- 54:47Speaker 1: say it was giving me like so um Bridget Jones Diary.
- 54:52Speaker 1: You know the one scene when like, um, Hugh Grant
- 54:54Speaker 1: like tips over in the don't really mind me at that,
- 54:57Speaker 1: But then I also kind of feel like at least
- 54:59Speaker 1: got has like a stalking fetish, like a little bit
- 55:01Speaker 1: of a foot fetish. M vibe. Well, I think I
- 55:06Speaker 1: think it's like fun and funny. Um. There was this
- 55:09Speaker 1: one intervieweated with Kyle Buchanan for Vulture like four years ago,
- 55:13Speaker 1: I think about All the Money in the World where
- 55:15Speaker 1: he says like he instructed Michelle Williams in one scene
- 55:18Speaker 1: to like flirt with I guess it was what Mark
- 55:21Speaker 1: Wahlberg in that movie to like walk. The line is like, oh,
- 55:24Speaker 1: walk across the room and like stocking feet. I thought
- 55:27Speaker 1: that was so funny and like like goofy um. But
- 55:31Speaker 1: there's another scene in the Last Duel where like someone
- 55:33Speaker 1: like a characters like wearing like like a woman's wearing stockings,
- 55:35Speaker 1: and it's like is it flirtesias or is it like
- 55:37Speaker 1: kind of like you know whatever. Um, But that scene
- 55:40Speaker 1: was like reminding me of that. It's like such a
- 55:42Speaker 1: weird the emphasis like so on her legs, on her lap,
- 55:46Speaker 1: on her like pantyhose and I was like, I guess
- 55:49Speaker 1: really's got just like really thinks this is like I
- 55:51Speaker 1: don't know how women like flirt like with their little
- 55:54Speaker 1: bare feet, but like not really, I don't know. I
- 55:57Speaker 1: actually liked this scene. But the moment where she drops
- 56:01Speaker 1: the tickets to New York in the car gives him
- 56:04Speaker 1: road ahead, that was like so like that was that
- 56:08Speaker 1: was like I was like, oh my god, what is
- 56:09Speaker 1: going on. I had just watched that episode of Curb
- 56:11Speaker 1: like all about this, and I was like cracking up. Um.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Speaking of like comparisons, we also know that you are
- 56:17Speaker 1: a moonstruck scholar, of which we are also or just
- 56:20Speaker 1: a moonstruck fisionado. Yes, I will accept that time. I
- 56:24Speaker 1: did see quite a few moonstruck um parallels in this movie,
- 56:28Speaker 1: starting with both of them. I mean their first scenes
- 56:30Speaker 1: are them at a typewriter being a bookkeeper or whatever,
- 56:33Speaker 1: and then also being called by like a construction workers
- 56:36Speaker 1: like a very like that both happened. They both happened
- 56:38Speaker 1: in Moonstruck. But like in terms of like these movies
- 56:41Speaker 1: as a side by side, like I do feel like
- 56:43Speaker 1: Gaga is like in a lineage of people like Share
- 56:47Speaker 1: that are doing the pop star to like prestige actress Pipeline. Yeah, yeah, exactly, Yeah,
- 56:53Speaker 1: I would agree. And I also think that like you know,
- 56:56Speaker 1: the thing, I think the thing that's in common between them,
- 56:59Speaker 1: like not only that the transition from like like singing
- 57:02Speaker 1: to acting, but it is that like Gaga's taste for
- 57:05Speaker 1: an actor like pretty eccentric, I feel like like she's
- 57:07Speaker 1: not doing the Well's an example of this, Like it's
- 57:11Speaker 1: not like she's not playing a version of herself really
- 57:14Speaker 1: Like I think the allied character in The Star Is
- 57:16Speaker 1: Born is like pretty unlike got Gone a lot of ways,
- 57:19Speaker 1: like as a pop star. I mean, I'm not a
- 57:20Speaker 1: little monster, so correct me if I'm wrong, But they
- 57:23Speaker 1: don't make the same type of music. Um, And I
- 57:25Speaker 1: think in this it is like a role that doesn't
- 57:30Speaker 1: like doesn't rest in her like actual like singing, Like
- 57:33Speaker 1: she doesn't sing in this movie. It's not like it's
- 57:34Speaker 1: something she's like not resting in her Laurels is what
- 57:36Speaker 1: I'm saying. And shares like the exact same way as
- 57:39Speaker 1: an actress who like really um, who wants to act
- 57:45Speaker 1: like doesn't want to just play a version of share
- 57:47Speaker 1: in a movie. How do you think this stacks up
- 57:49Speaker 1: to Camilla, Cabo and Cinderella do not do not invoke.
- 57:54Speaker 1: Jeff Bezos got what he paid for and that's all
- 57:58Speaker 1: that means. Crazy. I didn't I didn't watch how how
- 58:04Speaker 1: far did you make it through? Oh? I watched the
- 58:06Speaker 1: whole thing. You watched the I watched the whole thing. Yes, me,
- 58:09Speaker 1: and like four moms in Florida, yes, Florida and Sean
- 58:14Speaker 1: Mendez not even Actually do you think Sean Mendez saw
- 58:16Speaker 1: House of Gucci? I can't say. Has he listened to
- 58:20Speaker 1: thirty like post first breakup? For sure? It came justin,
- 58:24Speaker 1: wasn't it. I feel like I read on or something
- 58:26Speaker 1: like he initiated the breakup. I think if you initiated
- 58:28Speaker 1: the breakup, you don't need to listen to thirty. Sometimes
- 58:31Speaker 1: Camilla listened to thirty? Or does Camilla only listened to
- 58:34Speaker 1: her own music? I think music sometimes when you were
- 58:37Speaker 1: the breaker up or it can be really hard. But
- 58:38Speaker 1: I don't think it was hard for Yeah, I don't
- 58:40Speaker 1: think that was. Like they're still friends unlike Marizo and Patrizia.
- 58:44Speaker 1: But maybe oh my god, well one of them is dead.
- 58:48Speaker 1: Maybe Camilla will have Sean killed no stop it? Who
- 58:54Speaker 1: like selmahiak in this, In this like maybe who's the
- 59:00Speaker 1: magical Grifter in Billy Parter, I will say, okay, one
- 59:05Speaker 1: to speak one good thing about Jeff Bezos Cinderella. Billy
- 59:10Speaker 1: Porter's line reading of you want to go to that
- 59:12Speaker 1: ball one of my favorite things this year, I'll say
- 59:15Speaker 1: it he was I would have I'm sure I would
- 59:17Speaker 1: enjoy his parts of the movie. I feel that one scene.
- 59:19Speaker 1: Oh and um, Mini Driver was in that movie, MANI Driver.
- 59:24Speaker 1: Mini Driver always comes to serve. She in Phantom of
- 59:29Speaker 1: the Opera, which is, I mean, my favorite musical and
- 59:32Speaker 1: a terrible movie that I love watching. She is the
- 59:36Speaker 1: only person who understands what movies she's in, much like
- 59:39Speaker 1: Lady Gaga in House of Gucci. Oh that is like evolved.
- 59:43Speaker 1: I love what you said about how Share in habits
- 59:46Speaker 1: a character because something that between watching Gaga and Gucci
- 59:49Speaker 1: and Sharon Moonstruck is like it you can never not
- 59:54Speaker 1: see Share, you can never not see Gaga, like your
- 59:58Speaker 1: brain is like that's gott like you know, but it
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: still is a fully realized character that is distinctly not
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Gaga and distinctly not Share. And sometimes a star power
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: is what makes some of the movie that to me
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: is the big difference between this and A Star is
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: Born because okay, yes, the Star is Born as a
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: little monster. I can say like Ali is very different
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: from Gaga because like Ali kind of in a way
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: falls into this career where Gaga like the thing that
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: has I mean the thing that has made her like
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: she wants it so badly and she performs so much.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: And Ali was like not a performer in the same
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: way in her personal life, whereas like Patricia like performed
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: being a Gucci Yeah. But um, in A Star is Born,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: you never forget that it's Lady Gaga. Um. And she
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: doesn't disappear into the role the way that I think
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: she does to to like some effect in House of Gucci.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Like I do believe she's playing a fully realized character,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: maybe not a real person, um, but I don't. I
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: don't feel like it's just Lady Gaga and awake. No,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: absolutely not. But I do think that like this meta
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: text of like I'm watching Lady Gaga like run around
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Italy and like tell all these men what they are
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: doing wrong. It's like kind of incredible fun the movie
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: really but fun that it's not like the goofys of
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Ajar Letto stuff exactly exactly. I also have to say
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: it feels like maybe missed opportunity for Gaga's dad to
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: not have some like ad placements for Joanne's treacheria. I
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: feel like that have eaten there. No, I wait, what
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: was your experience? It's disgusting. It's some of the worst
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: Italian food I've ever The meatballs are definitely like rats.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: Was it huge portions? It feels like a huge portions. No,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: not really and very overpriced. Um, where were there a
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: bunch of like like faggots there? Yeah, my friend Ryan
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: was there. Oh, I mean like other other patrons. I'm
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: sure all the waiters was like, you know, all the
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: waiters were coming off of their like fourth audition of
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: the day. Did come out of the kitchen as Patrizio,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Mommy have a meatball for you? Wait this rose? Did
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: you really go to Allive Garden after you saw I did?
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I went direct? Oh yeah I did. Um. It was
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: like it was like nine thirty pm in Boca Raton, Florida,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: and Olive Garden was closing at ten and I called
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: to them as we were leaving the theater to see
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: if they would still see us, and they did. That
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: is powerful. What did you have? I had chicken parmesan, yes,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: salad and breadsticks obviously, and it was Bellicia. It hits
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: so so well and it felt like, um, the same
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: the same level of like authenticness as the movie. Yes, yes,
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: like the House of Gucci is the Olive Garden of films,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: and that is powerful. Have you been a Halive Garden?
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: Oh my god, you're like, have I been to Olive Garden?
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Why do you think she asked me about it? How
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: I've been to Olive Garden? They live there. Do listen
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: you were born there. I will be a hit on me.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I'm trying to go to All Garden for New Year's Eve, Like,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: oh my god, that's invite me. It costs like four
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: but unlimited everything all night went out, not nothing, truly.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: It's like embarrassing. I have checked the website once a
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: month in the past six months, like every once month.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: I get on and I'm like, can I get tickets yet? Nope?
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Okay It's either that or like usher in Vegas, and
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: I'm not sure I can do that. It's going to
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: be I was also considering a Vegas moment for for
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: New Year's but I was going to go to Katie Perry,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: you know, Katy cat to Katt we are Katie Ketty,
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: I love this about about you. Could Katie have done
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: what Gaga did and Husse of Gucci? I know the answer. Okay,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: I'm going to say no because Okay, although she is
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: she does act in the Thinking of You video, Sure, yes,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: if you want to call that acting, yes, I will
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: say this. I think that like Gaga is an actor,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: like she knows how to perform and she improves and
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: it works, and it's like something like Father's House with Couti.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: It's like, oh my gosh, like that's so perfect for
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: this character, of this moment, all of the stuff. Yes.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Katy Perry, however, is like just out of her mind,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: like I don't. She doesn't. She didn't interview with the
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Wall Street Journal like last week where she was like
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: I watched Succession to get business advice and it's like,
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: oh right, okay. Katy Perry is just like crazy, like
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: she's cookie. I love her, and she wouldn't. She would
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: take a script and just be like these are like guidelines,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: like I don't actually need to do this and like that,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: and we're just like a completely incoherent film like it
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: would have been just she cannot like play a character,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: I think, except for Katy Perry, and that is the
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: only character you should play. What's your favorite Katie Perry song? Um? Okay,
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: this is a deep cut Um there's a chain to
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: the rhythm remix with Yadi, But like I've listened to
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: a lot lately, it's it's like, honestly a very good song.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: It's a great song. But I think Witness would have
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: been so much better if like Deja Vu Roulette had
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: been the lead single. Oh yes, I just wish the
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: album had actually been more like changed the rhythm. It's
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: a very good album and people sleep on it. I
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: need to give it a close listen. But Katy Perry
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: has big flop energy. Unfortunately. I say this as a
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Katie Cat. I want better for her, you know. I
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: mean it's like her lat like the pre Daisy, she
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: released like four singles, all different artwork, all promotion. Never
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: really Over is one of the best songs she's ever made.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: It's just like she doesn't give a fuck, Like that's
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: my really Katy Perry is that she has oh that
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: l A Times interview from I think two years ago.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: She says, essentially, do I need a number like another
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: number one album? I've rung that bell, honey, and it's
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: like the has like the most number one singles of
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: any albums. To Michael Jackson, yes, but the implication that
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: Katy Perry has can make number one but now wants
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: to choose to flop is brave, powerful, radical love. It
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: can't get enough. Thank you so much. The girl flopping,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: but you girls so hard you just like start actively
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: flopping and loving it. I love it. Oh, I love
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: that Katie Perry has entered this space. We should maybe
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: do a Katie episode at something. What is your go
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: to order at all of Garden? The chicken parmesan, the
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: chicken part I will call chicken parmesan. Love that you're
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: considering all of Garden for New Year's Eve because Rose
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: and I, I mean, this is very New York versus
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: l A. But we were really wanting to do the
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Margarite de Ville for New Year's Eve. We go, So
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: we go usually go to the movies at Universal City
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Walk and right next to the theater there is a
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: Jimmy Buffetts Margaritaville. It's a very cursed area. Wait is
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: this that place that has like it's like it's only
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: little village. Yeah, okay, I think I saw Dune there. Yeah,
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: that's also where we saw Dune that friends slept through. Um. Wait,
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: I'm glad that just come around to Doune because I
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: didn't think as I was walking into House of Gucci,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: I would love an Imax House of Gucci like we
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: accidentally saw. We imagine House of Gucci and three Yeah,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: I would like No, I would like House of Gucci
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: and four d X where the seats shake and they
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: spray you. Dacine. Yeah, well this is definitely shaped daring
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: the Saxcine. That's when he was taking her to Pound Town. Um,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: what do you what do you see next for Gaga
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: filmic Lee m hmmm, aside from um entering the m
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: c U, Yeah, which is inevitable. I really wish that
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: she was going to be Ursula and the Little Mermaid
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: as she had been. I think that's a very I
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: think like a Disney live action adaptation. While they are
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: the least of God's worries right now, I will say
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: that I think that she could really succeed in something
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: like that. Would she be not Ursula? I think she
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: would be amazing in Disney, but not La Melissa McCarthy. Okay,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: so what else do we have? So we've already done
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid. Um, I don't done.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I don't know that. Okay, I'm a meeting the Beast. Truth.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: I love them. It's like they're obviously um Maleficent. Um?
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: Has there been Maleficent doesn't count? It was a spin off.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: Has there been a good Disney Live action remake? Because
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm actually I think Cinderella is actually
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: very good. It was it was Kate because it was
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: the first of them and so there wasn't this like
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: expectation for it. I do think Gaga needs to play
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: a villain. Oh yes, oh maybe the evil queen in
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: a snow white. They did Aladdin and Dumbo. I forgot okay,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Aladdin was that was really bad. I did actually enjoy
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: parts of it. I'm ashamed to say, but it was.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: It was pretty bad. Oh. They did the Jungle Book.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: I forgot about that about Oh my gosh, imagine if
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: she did Cruella, well, I mean we just got it
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: with no if she had done it, maybe and Krella
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: to Krella reloaded, Taga will be like her mom, her
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: like tethered Corella her mom because her mom dies in
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: the first one. Maybe she comes back to life. There's
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: one thing Gaga is gonna do. It's come back to life,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: and she will come on set in an egg. You
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: know what I mean it as we crawl his mom.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: I mean, that's the only thing that I would At
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: this point, they're developing a Pinocchio live action right now.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: And is she going to be a geppetto Italian Italian legend. Well,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: you already know she does great drag and Italian and
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: the nose. It'll give her another chance to do the
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: nose exactly exactly. You're so fucking ugly. Stop. I am
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: kind of sad that. I mean, I guess like Adam
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Driver in this movie like really resented his dad, but
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: the fact that he didn't get a chance to say,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: like you could be left book and death if you
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: fucking tried and like sell his peanut farm or whatever
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: it was a pecan farm in Arizona. But thank you.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: I can't mean like one more Gaga movie where she
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: like just really like attack someone's father for her, like
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: to make it like a trend like, Lady Gaga does
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: not recognize fathers, and that's powerful and amazing. Yeah, well,
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: maybe she's like working out some tension with her own father,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: who is the restaurant tour a restaurateur and absolute Trump supporter.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: Oh my god, wait really yeah, so I don't know.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: When she said that she was looking for clues in
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: d C during the inauguration, she was she was looking,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: she was looking for she was looking for her dad.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: We have to thank you. We have to talk about
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Lady Gaga in messating the Insurrection, she said, I don't
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: consider myself the person, but I am fair and I
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: will find people. She's like her Barbara Walter's wig on
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: and she said, I am a woman on the ground.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: I'm looking for the story. I'm gonna get it live
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: from fucking America. In her bulletproof dress, She's like, I've
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: seen three seasons of Scandal and I know what I'm
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: doing here. Okay, that was like an iconic I'll listen.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: I'll say it. That quote was better than House of Gucci,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: Lady Gaga saying, yes, The Insurrection was better than any
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: movie could ever be. What do you think Patrizia's favorite
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: song on the Stars Born soundtrack would be why did
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: you do this to me? Because she feels it? Why
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: did why did he do this to her? That is
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: I I don't know if like the stakes of Patrizia's
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: emotional devastation were felt by me at the end, However,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: it was definitely the That's how I felt leaving the theater.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Still like it was to me when I left the theater,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: the resonant thing was like she really even though she's
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: obviously crazy and an anti hero, like I felt that
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: how was she an anti hero or was she a villain?
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: I think I think structurally she I think she was
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: an anti hero personally because I think that they wouldn't
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: have painted such a favorable portrait of her falling in
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: love with Adam to me if they didn't want you
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: to root for her at least a little bit. And
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: I also feel like when even though um, I don't know,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: I feel like even though like there wasn't like they
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: were part components of it that fell apart that I
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: think we're a fault of the script and not necessarily
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: a fault of like Gaga, I still felt like it
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: started and ended with a woman in love, and to
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: me it was not even though it's her love is
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: corrupted by money and greed and power, which she obviously
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: wanted to it still was about love and another Gaga
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: film that ends with her with her man dead. Yeah,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: well Jackson Mane loves forever. There. We can at least
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: determine that in whatever the Gaga's third movie is her
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: she's gonna get in a fight with the dad, her
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: husband's gonna die, she's going to be in a bathtub,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: and she's going to have a gay best friend. Yes,
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: and I'm putting it out into the universe. Hunter Harris
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: is going to write that movie. I will open final
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: drop at this table like please do not test me.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: We will be back next week for a really important
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: episode discussing sex in the city. Absolutely um, we will
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: be invoking Samantha Jones, who allegedly is not dead in
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: the new series. But you know well, we'll talk more
