- 0:00Speaker 1: Live from the Skying New Center.
- 0:03Speaker 2: This is the Kenny Report.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Thanks for joining me on the Kenny Report. For Islamic State,
- 0:10Speaker 3: women and nine children are about to land in Australia.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Will cross live to the airport.
- 0:16Speaker 3: What does this tell us about the government's attitude to
- 0:19Speaker 3: Islamist extremism, national security and social cohesion?
- 0:24Speaker 1: The Pharaoh by election this weekend. Will it be a
- 0:26Speaker 1: springboard for one nation or a setback.
- 0:30Speaker 3: I'll get the latest on the Middle East war from
- 0:32Speaker 3: former Foreign Minister Alexander Downer and find out too whether
- 0:36Speaker 3: he'll take over as Liberal Federal President. The former snowy
- 0:40Speaker 3: two point o boss tells us why the project is
- 0:43Speaker 3: running over time and bleeding taxpayers money. In sport with
- 0:48Speaker 3: Mark Robinson, psychologists for footy clubs, and I'll get Tim
- 0:52Speaker 3: Blair and Mark Nicholson to explain Anthony Albanese's.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Problem with the truth.
- 1:01Speaker 3: The Isis brides for women who turned their backs on
- 1:05Speaker 3: this country to join the Islamic State terrorist caliphate dedicated
- 1:09Speaker 3: to killing Jews, Christians and all non Muslims. The Isis
- 1:15Speaker 3: Caliphate committed to overthrowing democracy and freedom. Well, those four
- 1:20Speaker 3: women are now about to arrive back in this country,
- 1:24Speaker 3: demanding the very freedom and respect that isis was committed
- 1:28Speaker 3: to destroying, and demanding it too for their nine children
- 1:33Speaker 3: that they've brought back with them, and we as a country,
- 1:39Speaker 3: despite the government's denials, have helped them return. We've sorted
- 1:44Speaker 3: out their passports, organized care for their children, with our
- 1:47Speaker 3: welfare system and health care and education systems all ready
- 1:52Speaker 3: to help out.
- 1:53Speaker 1: This is what we do in this country.
- 1:55Speaker 3: We pour money and resources into people who choose to
- 1:58Speaker 3: be our enemies. Even just five months after fifteen innocent
- 2:04Speaker 3: Australians were shot dead on Bondi Beach in an alleged
- 2:07Speaker 3: act of Islamist terror. We bring in people who chose
- 2:11Speaker 3: Islamist hatred and violence over Australia and freedom. And we
- 2:17Speaker 3: do this at the same time we allow Islamist hate
- 2:20Speaker 3: preachers to spread bile in our communities, and instead our
- 2:25Speaker 3: government has banned Israeli politicians and advocates. This happens while
- 2:30Speaker 3: we spend three hundred million dollars pursuing alleged and possibly
- 2:34Speaker 3: unprovable crimes by our soldiers in a long running war
- 2:39Speaker 3: that tried to defeat Islamist terrorism in Afghanistan.
- 2:44Speaker 1: We are a confused country.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Our moral compass, if we have one, is spinning wildly.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Our national leadership.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Lacks moral clarity, courage and consistency. Just another example unfolded
- 3:01Speaker 3: today at the Royal Commission into Anty Semitism, with a
- 3:04Speaker 3: public servant revealing she was admonished for daring to display
- 3:09Speaker 3: posters supporting the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza.
- 3:15Speaker 4: They were posters that essentially had the photograph of the hostage.
- 3:19Speaker 4: It had a red message underneath, just saying bring them home.
- 3:23Speaker 5: And what did your manager say to you about those
- 3:25Speaker 5: images that you had displayed.
- 3:27Speaker 4: My manager told me I needed to remove them from
- 3:29Speaker 4: the wall because of the likelihood of them upsetting or
- 3:35Speaker 4: offending other people in the workplace.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Elderly hostages, young women, families, children and babies kidnapped, raped,
- 3:49Speaker 3: murdered and held as.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Hostages by hummas.
- 3:52Speaker 3: But our political elites are so morally decrepit that not
- 3:56Speaker 3: only do they fail to offer sympathy or support, they
- 4:00Speaker 3: stopped others.
- 4:01Speaker 1: From doing so. This is grotesque.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah, the New South Wales Health Department apparently checked in
- 4:09Speaker 3: on staff upset by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Good on them, but there was no.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Care or check in for anyone perturbed by Hamas's atrocities
- 4:20Speaker 3: and invasion of Southern israel I despair for this country.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Jewish Australians have been abandoned. Islamist extremism is left unchecked,
- 4:33Speaker 3: unmentioned by our Prime Minister, and the Jewish community continues
- 4:37Speaker 3: to endure threats, attacks and fear. I'm afraid they are
- 4:42Speaker 3: the kenaries in the coal mine for all of us.
- 4:46Speaker 3: The same threat exists for all of us, but our
- 4:50Speaker 3: leaders do not see it. They won't mention it, they
- 4:55Speaker 3: deny it, and yet they actually welcome it onto our s.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Just on the budget, it's clear it will contain tax
- 5:08Speaker 3: hikes and broken promises, you know, the pack drill. They
- 5:12Speaker 3: lie to you to get elected. They make promises to
- 5:15Speaker 3: get elected.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Then early in the term.
- 5:17Speaker 3: They take us all for mugs, break their promises and
- 5:20Speaker 3: sock it to us.
- 5:22Speaker 1: As I showed you last.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Night, Anthony Albanezi has a very loose relationship with the truth.
- 5:27Speaker 6: You know.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Albo is so disconnected from reality. He'll be recruited any.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Day now as an afl umpire. But the Treasurer is
- 5:35Speaker 3: hot on his heels. Just listen to the arrogance. Have
- 5:39Speaker 3: a look at the smugness, as he calmly tells us
- 5:42Speaker 3: this morning on Sky News, how he will justify breaking
- 5:47Speaker 3: core election promises.
- 5:50Speaker 7: I think the responsibility is to explain why, if there's
- 5:52Speaker 7: a change of view, why the government has come to
- 5:54Speaker 7: a different view, and if there are changes in that
- 5:58Speaker 7: regard on Budget night, then that's what I intend to do,
- 6:01Speaker 7: to explain why the government's come to a different.
- 6:03Speaker 3: View, has come to a different view. The government has
- 6:08Speaker 3: come to a different view. Vote for me because I
- 6:12Speaker 3: promised to cut your power bill. Vote for me because
- 6:15Speaker 3: I promise not to change the tax cuts. Vote for
- 6:18Speaker 3: me because I promise not to increase taxes on housing investments.
- 6:22Speaker 3: But now you've voted for me, I have come to
- 6:25Speaker 3: a different view. What snake oil salesman, Well, I think
- 6:30Speaker 3: a lot of voters might soon come to a different
- 6:34Speaker 3: view too. If you've voted labor, I urge you to
- 6:37Speaker 3: come to a different view.
- 6:40Speaker 1: But I won't.
- 6:41Speaker 3: I won't change my mind one little bit because I
- 6:46Speaker 3: have always thought that this was one of the least talented,
- 6:49Speaker 3: least experienced, most left wing and most dishonest cabinet teams
- 6:55Speaker 3: ever assembled.
- 6:57Speaker 1: This country is headed for very difficult times.
- 7:05Speaker 3: The Parer by election this weekend will be interesting, but
- 7:08Speaker 3: what will it actually mean. If the Liberals lose, it
- 7:12Speaker 3: won't be such a surprise. It's the sort of thing
- 7:15Speaker 3: that happens in tricky by elections. This one's triggered, of course,
- 7:18Speaker 3: by the resignation of former Liberal leader Susan Lee. But
- 7:22Speaker 3: still it'd be a worry because once seats are lost
- 7:25Speaker 3: to independents or minor parties, they tend to be very
- 7:28Speaker 3: hard to win back. There's a good chance that one
- 7:31Speaker 3: nation could win it, which could be a significant turning point.
- 7:35Speaker 3: It'd be the very first time that they've won a
- 7:38Speaker 3: federal lower House seat. Could it be a prelude to
- 7:41Speaker 3: Pauline Hanson's outfit winning a swag of seats at the
- 7:44Speaker 3: next election.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Maybe, but maybe not.
- 7:48Speaker 3: It's just so far away now, eighteen months or so
- 7:51Speaker 3: at least till the next election, and you'd think that
- 7:54Speaker 3: one nation could easily fall by the wayside before then.
- 7:58Speaker 3: So if one nation wins, I wouldn't get too excited.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Winning at a by election is likely to be a
- 8:04Speaker 3: lot easier than winning in a general election, and if
- 8:07Speaker 3: one nation misses out, well, it will be a bit
- 8:10Speaker 3: of a setback.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It will take to take a lot of wind out.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Of their sales, which I guess is why they're getting
- 8:16Speaker 3: pretty antsy on the polling birds. Are you giving a
- 8:22Speaker 3: video video me without.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Now?
- 8:34Speaker 3: When I showed you that last night, it was pretty
- 8:36Speaker 3: clear that One Nation was getting very sensitive about the
- 8:40Speaker 3: Liberals highlighting the labor links of One Nation candidate David
- 8:44Speaker 3: Farley in the past. All the same on this program
- 8:48Speaker 3: last night, Pauline Hansen admonished the volunteer.
- 8:53Speaker 8: Apologize soon for what happened, and we've assisted said, we'll
- 8:57Speaker 8: make over assistance possible if you want to undertake and
- 9:00Speaker 8: police investigation. That will encourage our volunteers who witness it
- 9:04Speaker 8: to make their statements.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Yeah, well, one day is a long time in this
- 9:09Speaker 3: by election, because this afternoon Hansen performed a complete backflip.
- 9:14Speaker 8: I'm stand by my volunteer and that whole scuffle. When
- 9:18Speaker 8: I first heard about it, I was just about to
- 9:20Speaker 8: go on air with Chris Kenney and I didn't get
- 9:22Speaker 8: the full story. Since then, I've been able to watch
- 9:24Speaker 8: the full video clip of it, and I feel for
- 9:27Speaker 8: my volunteer. I don't get in the gutter like these
- 9:30Speaker 8: other politicians do.
- 9:33Speaker 1: That people don't want it.
- 9:34Speaker 8: They won't get it from one nation. But I tell
- 9:37Speaker 8: you I'm going to meet that volunteer and I'm going
- 9:40Speaker 8: to shake his hand and I'm going to stand by him.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Oh dear campaign biffo. Then a campaign apology, but now
- 9:49Speaker 3: a campaign reversed. Pike seemingly endorsing the biffo. Never a
- 9:54Speaker 3: dull moment when one nation's around him. But you have
- 9:57Speaker 3: to wonder why they're so sensitive about Farley Labor links.
- 10:01Speaker 3: As I showed you the other night, one of their
- 10:03Speaker 3: new MP's in the South Australian Lower House seat is
- 10:07Speaker 3: Jason Virgo and he was a former Labor Party office holder,
- 10:11Speaker 3: also a prominent gay rights activist and a two time
- 10:15Speaker 3: candidate for the Sex Party. So one nation takes all comers,
- 10:20Speaker 3: and they've been winning seats. Let's see if it beats
- 10:23Speaker 3: all comers on Saturday. Let's go straight to our reporter
- 10:31Speaker 3: Aston Blomfield at Melbourne Airport where the three of the
- 10:34Speaker 3: isis briars, three of the women's link to the Islamic
- 10:37Speaker 3: State Caliphate and their children are Juda land shortly.
- 10:40Speaker 1: What's the latest their assmen?
- 10:44Speaker 9: Yeah, we're expecting these three women and eight children to
- 10:47Speaker 9: touch down here at Melbourne Airport in just under thirty
- 10:50Speaker 9: minutes time. The cohort includes a Melbourne grandmother married to
- 10:54Speaker 9: a humanitarian worker who is accused of siphoning resources to ISIS.
- 11:00Speaker 9: It also includes their two adult children who are widows
- 11:04Speaker 9: to ISIS fighters and recruiters, plus their eight children. Now
- 11:09Speaker 9: The Australian is reporting that two of these women are
- 11:12Speaker 9: expected to be arrested on the tarmac and face charges
- 11:17Speaker 9: relating to the alleged enslavement of at least one Yazidi
- 11:21Speaker 9: woman during their time in Syria. Now there's a separate
- 11:24Speaker 9: cohort on another flight due to touchdown at Sydney Airport
- 11:28Speaker 9: around the same time that includes a woman and her
- 11:32Speaker 9: nine year old son. The Australian is also reporting that
- 11:36Speaker 9: this woman will face charges relating to entering a declared
- 11:40Speaker 9: terrorist area. Now, anyone who isn't charged later this evening
- 11:45Speaker 9: will likely be monitored for the foreseeable future, monitoring both
- 11:49Speaker 9: their movement and any communication channels they may be using.
- 11:54Speaker 9: These children as well. The nine children are expected to
- 11:57Speaker 9: enter community integration programs in the foreseeable future as well.
- 12:02Speaker 9: So I have a note all day today that the
- 12:05Speaker 9: Federal yes.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Of the four adults.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Of the four women, it sounds like we're expecting three
- 12:11Speaker 3: of them to be arrested, two in Melbourne and one
- 12:14Speaker 3: in Sydney. You talk about arrest on the tarmax, but
- 12:17Speaker 3: is there any confirmation that we'll actually even see these
- 12:20Speaker 3: women though they could easily be arrested and taken into
- 12:23Speaker 3: custody without the many prying eyes of the media getting
- 12:27Speaker 3: pictures of them, isn't that right?
- 12:30Speaker 1: That's right.
- 12:31Speaker 9: There's multiple exits here that they could be taken out of.
- 12:34Speaker 9: We've got camera crews covering all bases this evening in
- 12:38Speaker 9: case they're slipped out through a back exit, So there's
- 12:41Speaker 9: lots of different scenarios that could unfold this evening increase.
- 12:43Speaker 9: It's a very dynamic situation.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yeah, well you'll be there for assessment.
- 12:47Speaker 3: I appreciate it will cross back to you if there's
- 12:49Speaker 3: any movement at Melbourne Airport. Thanks for joining us, Aspen
- 12:52Speaker 3: Blomfield their report of joining us live from Melbourne Airport
- 12:55Speaker 3: were the majority of these people coming back to Australia
- 13:00Speaker 3: the Islamic Caliphate leaving Syria yesterday, will arrive tonight. Just
- 13:06Speaker 3: one woman and one minor arriving in Sydney as well. Now,
- 13:10Speaker 3: I just want to go back to that horrible tragedy
- 13:13Speaker 3: that has shocked this nation this past week or so.
- 13:16Speaker 3: It's been a week in fact, since the body of
- 13:19Speaker 3: Kumanjaya little baby was discovered in Alice Springs. Vigils for
- 13:25Speaker 3: the five year old will be held right around the
- 13:26Speaker 3: country tonight, from Alice Springs to Darwin, all capital cities
- 13:30Speaker 3: and plenty of regional towns too, including Broom and cal Gooley.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Let's bring in just into now Bajimber Price, the little
- 13:36Speaker 3: girl's Auntie Centers about to attend the vigil in Alice.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Thanks for joining us, just Center, and we're so sorry.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Feel your loss.
- 13:47Speaker 3: You must be feeling an incredible amount of sorrow and
- 13:51Speaker 3: personal grief, of course, but on top of that anger
- 13:54Speaker 3: because as long as I've known you, this has been
- 13:57Speaker 3: your prime focus, how to protect young children in families,
- 14:03Speaker 3: in the town camps, around places like Alice Springs and
- 14:07Speaker 3: in remote communities. It shows that as a nation we're
- 14:11Speaker 3: completely failing, doesn't it.
- 14:14Speaker 10: Yeah, absolutely, Chris. You know I've been on your program,
- 14:19Speaker 10: you know, with you and I have had conversations about
- 14:21Speaker 10: this issue for years now, and it's it's been it's
- 14:27Speaker 10: been a really difficult week this last week. It's just
- 14:30Speaker 10: been very consuming, you know, and just spending time with
- 14:36Speaker 10: my family and the women in my family in particular,
- 14:40Speaker 10: who I suppose really feeling it, and I just there's
- 14:44Speaker 10: always just been a sense of an underlying sense of
- 14:48Speaker 10: you know, the voices of women, the voices of children,
- 14:53Speaker 10: never as important as the voices of men, especially when
- 14:58Speaker 10: it comes to these circumstance and the frustration. I've been
- 15:04Speaker 10: really really quite angry and angry at heads of organizations
- 15:12Speaker 10: who are turning this issue not into about the safety
- 15:18Speaker 10: of children and making sure that we uphold their human rights,
- 15:23Speaker 10: but making it about how the public perceives my family.
- 15:28Speaker 10: As far as I'm concerned, we all need to be
- 15:31Speaker 10: having very difficult conversations about the reality of the circumstances
- 15:36Speaker 10: that led up to this horrible event, and ultimately the
- 15:42Speaker 10: safety of children and women and the protection of their
- 15:48Speaker 10: lives should ultimately be what is most important.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And so.
- 15:57Speaker 10: But you know, at the same time, you hear these
- 16:00Speaker 10: heads of organizations wanting to put their points forward, Well,
- 16:05Speaker 10: they're funded federally, aren't they. So they've got a patch
- 16:10Speaker 10: to preserve for themselves, but for me personally, I don't
- 16:16Speaker 10: want to bury any more children in my family for
- 16:19Speaker 10: the wrong reasons. I don't want to lose another woman
- 16:24Speaker 10: to violence. That's what I want to stop, and that's
- 16:28Speaker 10: what I've always wanted to stop. So we need to
- 16:33Speaker 10: stop with the covering it up and deflecting from having
- 16:37Speaker 10: the honest and painful conversations that need to be had.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Now there are criminal charges pending. Of course, a man
- 16:46Speaker 3: has been charged with murder, and will allow that criminal
- 16:49Speaker 3: process to play out. But disturbing revelations have told us
- 16:54Speaker 3: that there were warning signs that the Department of Children's
- 16:58Speaker 3: Services had been notified of concerns about the living circumstances
- 17:03Speaker 3: of this little girl. And here's the Northern Territory's Children's
- 17:06Speaker 3: Minister yesterday.
- 17:09Speaker 11: As a result of the initial investigation, it's had occurred.
- 17:13Speaker 11: There's been three stuff who've been stored down from the
- 17:16Speaker 11: roles that they were occupying. Now it's absolutely the time
- 17:19Speaker 11: to look at how we can do things differently.
- 17:22Speaker 1: You said that people stood down.
- 17:23Speaker 3: That's an obvious admission that the mistakes were made. This
- 17:28Speaker 3: is the dilemma, isn't it. When they're alerted to children
- 17:31Speaker 3: at risk? Why is there not enough action.
- 17:36Speaker 10: Precisely? And this is another issue that I have raised
- 17:41Speaker 10: repeatedly over the years the former Labor government. I raised
- 17:45Speaker 10: this issue with their Child Protection minister many years ago
- 17:50Speaker 10: about the running concerns of foster parents who take care
- 17:54Speaker 10: of children who raised them from when they're babies to
- 18:00Speaker 10: the age of five or six, and because of the
- 18:03Speaker 10: kinship principle, they then decide to hand those children over
- 18:08Speaker 10: to family members in communities who are effectively strangers to
- 18:11Speaker 10: these children where they've grown up in the suburbs of
- 18:15Speaker 10: Alice Springs and known only that, and the people that
- 18:17Speaker 10: have raised them but rip them from their hands, retraumatize them,
- 18:22Speaker 10: even against against the advice from professionals such as pediatricians
- 18:28Speaker 10: specialists in their fields dealing with children, they go against
- 18:33Speaker 10: all that advice and they put those children back in
- 18:36Speaker 10: those horrific circumstances where I've known many cases where they've
- 18:39Speaker 10: been retraumatized, only to be taken back out of those
- 18:43Speaker 10: circumstances and put back into the homes they should have
- 18:47Speaker 10: stayed in the entire time. And you know that only
- 18:49Speaker 10: happens because they're Aboriginal, and that is the racism of
- 18:53Speaker 10: low expectations in this country, and I'm pleased to see
- 18:56Speaker 10: that Robin Cahill has taken first steps towards sorting out
- 19:01Speaker 10: this department where the lives of children depend on it,
- 19:05Speaker 10: to do the right thing by them. I will acknowledge
- 19:08Speaker 10: that they are like many frontline services under the absolute pump,
- 19:14Speaker 10: and very few people have a desire to go and
- 19:17Speaker 10: work for such organizations. But I know that there is
- 19:21Speaker 10: a culture that needs to change, and it's come about
- 19:24Speaker 10: because of woke, bloody culture, because of political correctness, because
- 19:28Speaker 10: of those in power who think it's a hands off
- 19:32Speaker 10: approach to Aboriginal people, treat them differently, because of the
- 19:34Speaker 10: stolen generation. No, no, no, let's treat them like Australian kids
- 19:38Speaker 10: and uphold their human rights. That's what we need to do.
- 19:42Speaker 10: Enough of the hands off culture, the culture that says
- 19:46Speaker 10: that culture and country are more important to these kids,
- 19:50Speaker 10: when ultimately that is a fantasy, because it's dysfunction that
- 19:54Speaker 10: you're sending these kids back to. Not this, not this
- 20:00Speaker 10: concept of connection to land and culture. That's not what's
- 20:04Speaker 10: going on here in the Northern Territory anyway. There's so
- 20:08Speaker 10: many examples and we can't continue down this path. I
- 20:12Speaker 10: don't want to see more little babies lose their lives.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Spot on just Center, thanks for joining us.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Our hearts are with you now as you join others
- 20:19Speaker 3: in other springs at that vigil. Just into Navagina Price,
- 20:24Speaker 3: their Liberal Senator for the Northern Territory. Let's get back
- 20:28Speaker 3: to the issue of these Islamic state women about touchdown
- 20:32Speaker 3: in Australia as we speak, three in Melbourne, one in Sydney.
- 20:37Speaker 3: We believe three of the four will be arrested by
- 20:39Speaker 3: Australian Federal police.
- 20:40Speaker 1: There will be nine children with them.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Let's go to adelaid Down and catch up with the
- 20:44Speaker 3: Shadow Health Minister and Rustin and should any.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Of these women be allowed into the country.
- 20:51Speaker 12: Well, I mean, these are so many questions that need
- 20:54Speaker 12: to be answered that the government is failing to give
- 20:56Speaker 12: us the truth on and we find out Todayurrently, the
- 21:00Speaker 12: Syrian authorities were waiting for the green light from the
- 21:03Speaker 12: Australian government before these women were sent back to Australia.
- 21:07Speaker 12: And yet the government has been denying all along that
- 21:10Speaker 12: they had any involvement in the repatriation of these women
- 21:12Speaker 12: into this country. I mean, the problem we have here, Chris,
- 21:15Speaker 12: is that this has been sort of a self managed
- 21:17Speaker 12: return of these people. We know very little about them.
- 21:20Speaker 12: I mean, we believe a number of them are going
- 21:22Speaker 12: to be arrested when they land, but we actually don't
- 21:25Speaker 12: know that. I mean, the government has been basically treating
- 21:29Speaker 12: Australians like mugs, keeping them in the dark, and potentially
- 21:33Speaker 12: you know, there is potential danger. We don't know how
- 21:36Speaker 12: radicalized these children are that are going to be put
- 21:39Speaker 12: back into our communities, what the supports I mean, Chris,
- 21:42Speaker 12: this is just the most ridiculous situation that our government
- 21:46Speaker 12: is putting our country into because they have failed to
- 21:49Speaker 12: be able to tell the truth to the Australian public
- 21:51Speaker 12: about what's going on.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Yeah, there has to be risk involved. Now the government
- 21:56Speaker 3: can explain that they're managing that risk through the police
- 21:59Speaker 3: and through and the like.
- 22:00Speaker 1: But of course there is a risk. You mentioned the
- 22:02Speaker 1: children right now.
- 22:03Speaker 3: The children are different ages, but among them at least
- 22:07Speaker 3: one teenage boy. Now a radicalized teenage boy can and
- 22:13Speaker 3: radicalized teenage boys have been a problem in this country
- 22:17Speaker 3: in the past, so there.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Are problems there to manage.
- 22:19Speaker 13: Now.
- 22:20Speaker 1: We understand, as you say, we don't know. We won't
- 22:22Speaker 1: know un till it happens.
- 22:23Speaker 3: But the speculation, the informed speculation, is that three of
- 22:27Speaker 3: the four women will be arrested. Now, for the life
- 22:30Speaker 3: of me, can't see why any adult coming out of
- 22:32Speaker 3: that area wouldn't immediately go into custody for at least
- 22:36Speaker 3: an extended period of questioning.
- 22:39Speaker 12: Well, we certainly need to be able to give confident
- 22:42Speaker 12: confidence to the community that the government has got this
- 22:44Speaker 12: issue at hand. And I've got to say the last
- 22:47Speaker 12: thing any person in our community would feel that that
- 22:50Speaker 12: was the case at the moment. But the other question
- 22:53Speaker 12: is like, what is the cost of this going to
- 22:55Speaker 12: be to Australia to monitor these people, those that go
- 22:59Speaker 12: back in to the community. And you know, that's why
- 23:02Speaker 12: I think that the Coalition has a very sensible policy
- 23:05Speaker 12: that says that those people that have been radicalized, that
- 23:08Speaker 12: preach hate, believe in hate, hateful ideologies shouldn't be allowed
- 23:12Speaker 12: back into this country. And I think, you know, we
- 23:15Speaker 12: have to manage the people that come back into this
- 23:17Speaker 12: country on air terms and not just allow them to
- 23:21Speaker 12: get on a plane and fly to Australia and then
- 23:23Speaker 12: we'll deal with the consequences when.
- 23:24Speaker 3: They get here, all right, now the Coalition is getting
- 23:29Speaker 3: more bones, more meat on the bones of its immigration policy.
- 23:32Speaker 3: You're looking to scale back the numbers of immigrants into
- 23:35Speaker 3: this country, but Angus Taylor's also promised to make sure
- 23:38Speaker 3: that there's a bigger focus on Australian values coming into
- 23:41Speaker 3: this country. Let's put this cohort of Islamic state families
- 23:45Speaker 3: to one side. If a family seeking to emigrate to
- 23:49Speaker 3: Australia and they are a.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Family who's women, whose adult women.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Must wear full burkers, are they capable of adopting Australian values.
- 24:03Speaker 12: Well, I mean, I don't want to single out anybody's
- 24:06Speaker 12: you know, sort of cultural decisions that they make.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Well, but this is the trouble is just to interrupt
- 24:11Speaker 3: this is the problem.
- 24:11Speaker 1: If you're going to make those value judgments.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Someone at some stage has to be prepared to make
- 24:16Speaker 3: those sorts of judgments. I understand why everybody wants to
- 24:18Speaker 3: avoid making them.
- 24:19Speaker 1: But aren't there.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Some some some clear pointers that people need to accept.
- 24:26Speaker 12: Look, I think the very clear point is that people
- 24:28Speaker 12: need to accept when they come to come to this
- 24:30Speaker 12: country is they must accept our rule of law and
- 24:33Speaker 12: they must accept our way of life. And that's why
- 24:35Speaker 12: I think one aid the quality of women I've been
- 24:37Speaker 12: saying is well, it's the way that is the way
- 24:41Speaker 12: of life in this country that we are all equal.
- 24:43Speaker 12: So we need to make sure that we are placing
- 24:45Speaker 12: those values over what we do when it comes to
- 24:48Speaker 12: people that come to this country. And I think it
- 24:50Speaker 12: is as simple as that the values of the Liberal
- 24:52Speaker 12: Party are the values of this nation. But front and
- 24:55Speaker 12: foremost in all of that is about making sure that
- 24:58Speaker 12: our rule of law is upheld, which can never be compromised,
- 25:01Speaker 12: but also that our way of life is something that
- 25:04Speaker 12: is respected. And if you don't respect our way of
- 25:06Speaker 12: life and you're not prepared to live by the rule
- 25:08Speaker 12: of law of this country, then quite frankly, you should
- 25:10Speaker 12: stay where you are.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And Rustin thanks for joining us.
- 25:13Speaker 3: That's a shadow Cabinet member and Rustin joining us live
- 25:17Speaker 3: from Adelaide.
- 25:17Speaker 1: We're going to get to the break.
- 25:19Speaker 3: After that, we're going to check in on the snowy
- 25:21Speaker 3: two point zero project. The former boss will tell us
- 25:25Speaker 3: why it's running over time and way over budget.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Kenny Report.
- 25:34Speaker 3: I just want to go to some breaking news now
- 25:35Speaker 3: because we show you that the Qatar Airways flight from
- 25:39Speaker 3: Doha is landing there live pictures you're seeing from Tullamarine
- 25:42Speaker 3: Airport in Melbourne where that Qatar Airways flight is landing.
- 25:47Speaker 3: It's come from Doha, and on board that flight, we
- 25:50Speaker 3: understand will be three women who have been associated with
- 25:55Speaker 3: Islamic state the color fate in the Middle East coming
- 25:58Speaker 3: back to Australia and eight chill ldren.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Three women and eight children on that flight.
- 26:03Speaker 3: We believe the other woman and another child will land
- 26:06Speaker 3: in the next hour or so in Sydney. But on
- 26:09Speaker 3: that flight right there you are seeing the so called
- 26:12Speaker 3: isis brides, the largest cohort of them. Three of these
- 26:15Speaker 3: women landing in Melbourne, a safe landing there. The fate
- 26:20Speaker 3: that awaits these people once the plane docks is yet
- 26:25Speaker 3: to be revealed. We do understand though that two of
- 26:28Speaker 3: the women are likely to be arrested by Australian federal police.
- 26:33Speaker 3: The children will go the hands of we don't know who,
- 26:36Speaker 3: but government authorities apparently have organized that. But we don't
- 26:41Speaker 3: know whether there will be family awaiting these people at
- 26:45Speaker 3: the airport or other authorities. There are cameras and media
- 26:50Speaker 3: posted right around the airport to try and get pictures
- 26:53Speaker 3: of these women as they are like. But we don't
- 26:56Speaker 3: know what tactics the police and the airport authority will
- 27:00Speaker 3: adopt here. We know that when they arrested Ben Robert
- 27:03Speaker 3: Smith at Sydney Airport just weeks ago, there was an
- 27:08Speaker 3: opportunity for footage to be taken on the tarmac as
- 27:12Speaker 3: he was taken into custody. But will these women even
- 27:15Speaker 3: be seen by the media even if they are taken
- 27:18Speaker 3: into custody. But just repeating that three women and eight children,
- 27:22Speaker 3: all from what was the isis Caliphate, the Islamic state
- 27:27Speaker 3: caliphate in the Middle East that covered parts of Iraq
- 27:31Speaker 3: and Syria, now back in Australia. People who turned their
- 27:35Speaker 3: backs on Australia's freedom and liberties and security joined an
- 27:40Speaker 3: outfit that was committed to killing Jews, Christians, non Muslims,
- 27:45Speaker 3: rejecting democracy, freedom, equality that was all rejected by the
- 27:50Speaker 3: Islamic Caliphate. They're now back in Australia wanting that freedom
- 27:56Speaker 3: and getting some of those liberties in this country under
- 28:00Speaker 3: our rule of law. Certainly government finances will be involved
- 28:03Speaker 3: when it comes to health care and warfare and the likes.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Just repeating that that plane has landed in Melbourne and
- 28:11Speaker 1: I'm just.
- 28:11Speaker 3: A checking to see whether we go back to a
- 28:13Speaker 3: commercial breakdown or continue on with the program. They will
- 28:17Speaker 3: continue on with the program. And as I mentioned to
- 28:20Speaker 3: you before we went to the break, I wanted to
- 28:22Speaker 3: catch up on the Snowy two point Hydro project because
- 28:25Speaker 3: House of Protests greeted Labour's budget move yesterday to scrap
- 28:30Speaker 3: the rest of the Inland Rail project. They don't want
- 28:33Speaker 3: to spend the forty five billion dollars in total to
- 28:36Speaker 3: finish that piece of national economic infrastructure, which struck me
- 28:41Speaker 3: as pretty typical really, because they are happy to waste
- 28:44Speaker 3: that much finishing an infrastructure boondoggle that won't help our economy.
- 28:49Speaker 3: In fact, it'll just make our electricity even more expensive.
- 28:52Speaker 3: I do speak, of course, of Snowy Hydro two point zero,
- 28:56Speaker 3: Malcolm Turnbull's baby, a renewable energy pipe dream and waste
- 29:00Speaker 3: of taxpayers money that was supposed to be completed four
- 29:04Speaker 3: years ago. Latest estimates put the cost at forty two
- 29:07Speaker 3: billion dollars. That's twenty one times what we were told
- 29:11Speaker 3: when it was announced. And now it's run into more
- 29:13Speaker 3: problems with leaked videos showing water gushing through a major tunnel.
- 29:18Speaker 3: I caught up with snowy two point h's former CEO
- 29:21Speaker 3: Paul Broad and asked him when this project might eventually
- 29:25Speaker 3: be completed.
- 29:27Speaker 6: My expectation would be probably by twenty thirty. But Chris,
- 29:31Speaker 6: you have to have the transmission built, and when they
- 29:35Speaker 6: talk about these inflated costs, and Bruce Mountain and Ted Woodley,
- 29:41Speaker 6: who were really quite activist in the general marketplace, when
- 29:45Speaker 6: they do it, they wrapped the transmission lines in two
- 29:48Speaker 6: point zero Audion together and in fact the last twenty
- 29:51Speaker 6: years the existing transmission line has been under scale, so
- 29:55Speaker 6: that they need to upgrade the transmission lines I think
- 29:58Speaker 6: is fundamental to any other change that needs to happen
- 30:02Speaker 6: in the energy in the unity sector.
- 30:04Speaker 3: You're right, a lot of the additional costs here are
- 30:07Speaker 3: attributed to the transmission connection. Of course, those snowy two
- 30:11Speaker 3: point zero needs to be connected through transmission lines, but
- 30:14Speaker 3: you're saying there are additional benefits because there will be
- 30:17Speaker 3: other renewable projects plugged into that same transmission line.
- 30:22Speaker 13: And existing snow.
- 30:23Speaker 6: The snow as it stands today can't get all its
- 30:27Speaker 6: output out when it's most needed, particularly in Sydney and
- 30:31Speaker 6: in Melbourne, so when it's really hot demands through the roof.
- 30:34Speaker 6: That's when snow is at its best. But those transmission
- 30:37Speaker 6: lines get overloaded, they get they get hot, they seek
- 30:40Speaker 6: and snow gets constrained off. So even today, even today,
- 30:45Speaker 6: there's capacity available in snowy when it's really needed, they.
- 30:49Speaker 13: Can't get into the marketplace. So that's been the case
- 30:51Speaker 13: for some time.
- 30:53Speaker 6: So the argument for transmission upgrades has been a world
- 30:56Speaker 6: worn debate and in many ways have been build a
- 31:00Speaker 6: ransom VI. The bureaucrats in canber and Sydney can't work
- 31:03Speaker 6: out out to do it, and the natural monopoly and
- 31:06Speaker 6: Transcript trying to obviously extract rents for themselves. So that
- 31:10Speaker 6: need for transmission is fundamental to the whole market. That
- 31:13Speaker 6: puts two point zero to one side. But your point
- 31:16Speaker 6: being that's two point zero is built. It needs to
- 31:18Speaker 6: have transmission and you can't have renewables without massive amounts.
- 31:23Speaker 6: Affirming massive amounts and Email themselves have estimated that if
- 31:28Speaker 6: they the bow and target was ever met, you need
- 31:32Speaker 6: eight two point oh little one one.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Lord, But let's get to put the transmission to one
- 31:38Speaker 3: side for a moment. Now, discount the costs a little
- 31:41Speaker 3: because of that, But the project is still many years
- 31:44Speaker 3: over due and many billions of dollars over due, more
- 31:48Speaker 3: than ten billion dollars over price. What is the main
- 31:51Speaker 3: problem We've seen the latest pictures of the water leaking
- 31:54Speaker 3: through tunnel drilling. What is the main problem in delaying
- 31:58Speaker 3: this project and adding some actionally to the costs?
- 32:02Speaker 6: Well, I think the main problem isn't the physicals which
- 32:06Speaker 6: are problematic. Let me just tell you the risks in
- 32:08Speaker 6: doing this thing are enormous and on a globe scale,
- 32:13Speaker 6: on a global scale, this is an enormous project. And
- 32:15Speaker 6: I can't be too critical of what people are doing
- 32:18Speaker 6: on the ground and where that water is ingress is
- 32:20Speaker 6: happenings on a teleboi machine boring uphill for a pressure
- 32:25Speaker 6: sharp that's that is world leading stuff. So I don't
- 32:28Speaker 6: want to be able to critical that at all. Zero,
- 32:30Speaker 6: But the costs get out of control when you have
- 32:32Speaker 6: a cost plus contract, when the incentivized on both sides
- 32:36Speaker 6: to minimize costs. And you know, there's no doubt when
- 32:40Speaker 6: I left Snowy there were significant claims coming at us
- 32:43Speaker 6: at the back end of COVID when all other things
- 32:46Speaker 6: that were occurring at that time, the Audit Office did
- 32:49Speaker 6: an audit at the time, really, I think was very
- 32:53Speaker 6: very powerful and giving a strong tick the way the
- 32:56Speaker 6: way we were going.
- 32:58Speaker 13: And I understand that the Order Office go report again.
- 33:01Speaker 6: In May or June this year, so I'm very interested
- 33:05Speaker 6: to see what they say about these cost increases, because
- 33:08Speaker 6: they should forensically pull the whole thing apart. And the
- 33:12Speaker 6: feedback I'm getting is to employ significantly more people on
- 33:16Speaker 6: two point zero even white color workers. And what the
- 33:18Speaker 6: hell they're doing, I don't know, but it does worry
- 33:20Speaker 6: me about the cost bloating that's occurred out of recent times.
- 33:25Speaker 6: And I noticed that we build a contractor publishing its
- 33:29Speaker 6: results in Italy and the gim and Pietro's a lovely bloke,
- 33:35Speaker 6: very nice bloke. I have no qualms of him at all,
- 33:39Speaker 6: but he was crying about the how wonderful his contract
- 33:42Speaker 6: was in Australia. Well, when a contractor craws about how
- 33:44Speaker 6: good a contract is, I tell you I start.
- 33:47Speaker 3: To worry indeed, so you should let me show you
- 33:50Speaker 3: the latest comment on this from the relevant minister, Chris
- 33:53Speaker 3: Bow And here's what he said a couple of months
- 33:55Speaker 3: ago about the project.
- 33:57Speaker 14: Slowly chipoint know one of the biggest construction programs in
- 34:00Speaker 14: the world, twenty seven kilometers of tunnel's four thousand.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Workers in twenty twenty two, this project was way off track.
- 34:06Speaker 1: We've got to back on track. It's now seventy percent.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Complete, back on track and seventy percent complete.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Is he right, Chris?
- 34:16Speaker 13: But there we go.
- 34:17Speaker 6: When I first met Chris, as when I had a
- 34:19Speaker 6: brief him, when we never lasted about five minutes.
- 34:23Speaker 13: I mean, he hated the whole project.
- 34:24Speaker 6: Then he wanted to bagers, and he wanted me to
- 34:26Speaker 6: time go out and bag angers at the time, and
- 34:29Speaker 6: he couldn't work out how gas plant firmed up the
- 34:32Speaker 6: market because he hated the one up.
- 34:33Speaker 13: He carried that it wasn't going to work, all this
- 34:35Speaker 13: sort of stuff.
- 34:36Speaker 6: So Chris has the great capacity to reinvent the yardment
- 34:40Speaker 6: every time puts his head in front of the TV screen.
- 34:42Speaker 6: So I think you'll go down as probably the worst
- 34:45Speaker 6: energy minutes we have had.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Well, you know how to get an argument from me
- 34:48Speaker 1: on that.
- 34:48Speaker 3: But is he right to say that the problems have
- 34:51Speaker 3: been fixed and it's seventy percent complete.
- 34:54Speaker 6: Well, I'm not sure what problem he's trying to define.
- 34:57Speaker 6: When he got there the back end COVID. He's then
- 35:01Speaker 6: chair snow went off to Italy and renegotiated a contract
- 35:06Speaker 6: away from a from a Sandy Bays contract to a
- 35:09Speaker 6: cost plus cost contract.
- 35:11Speaker 13: So in my view he created a problem rather than
- 35:14Speaker 13: solved it.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Paul Broad, it's a worrying situation.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Thanks so much for joining us, my pleasure, Paul Broad,
- 35:22Speaker 3: there what a mess that project is. Might be too
- 35:25Speaker 3: late just to shut it down and cut our losses though.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Now I want to bring you to the latest breaking
- 35:29Speaker 3: news and QR nine oh eight, the other Qatar Airways
- 35:32Speaker 3: flight from Doha is now touching down in Sydney. We've
- 35:36Speaker 3: had that flight touchdown in Melbourne with three women and
- 35:40Speaker 3: eight children on board. This Sydney flight is one so
- 35:44Speaker 3: called Isis bride and her child. What have we got here?
- 35:49Speaker 3: I think what we were showing. Look, what I was
- 35:52Speaker 3: just showing you was the Melbourne plane which has landed.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Of course, now we're going to Sydney. This is the
- 35:58Speaker 3: shot of Sydney where we are expecting flight nine oh
- 36:02Speaker 3: eight to land anytime. Here it is now. This is
- 36:05Speaker 3: the live picture of flight nine eight. There is one
- 36:08Speaker 3: Isis related woman on this flight along with her child
- 36:13Speaker 3: and they're coming in now to Sydney. That woman is
- 36:16Speaker 3: expected to be arrested, speculation reporting in the Australian newspaper
- 36:21Speaker 3: that she will be arrested on arrival in Sydney over
- 36:26Speaker 3: charges related to being within a prescribed terrorist area, namely
- 36:31Speaker 3: the Islamic State Caliphate when it existed.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Of the three women in Melbourne, we believe.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Two are expected to be arrested over slavery allegations. But
- 36:42Speaker 3: there it is that Katari flight coming in from Doha.
- 36:46Speaker 3: One woman again, a woman who left Australia and all
- 36:50Speaker 3: the freedoms and liberties that we take for granted here
- 36:53Speaker 3: to join a caliphate mortally opposed to those very freedoms
- 36:57Speaker 3: now arriving back here where those freedoms and democracy and
- 37:02Speaker 3: welfare and health and education, all of that is on offer.
- 37:05Speaker 1: But where of course, there is also rule of law, and.
- 37:09Speaker 3: So the issue of any charges and allegations and court
- 37:13Speaker 3: matters will need to be faced by that woman and
- 37:15Speaker 3: the others in Melbourne.
- 37:16Speaker 1: So we'll keep you up to date.
- 37:17Speaker 3: We have people posted of course at Sydney Airport and
- 37:20Speaker 3: Melbourne Airport, and we will bring you any breaking news
- 37:23Speaker 3: as it occurs.
- 37:24Speaker 1: This hour.
- 37:25Speaker 3: I believe the Australian Federal Police will be speaking live.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Will bring that to you live later in the evening
- 37:30Speaker 3: as well. After this next break through, I'll get into
- 37:34Speaker 3: sport with Mark Robinson as the AFL is set to
- 37:37Speaker 3: introduce mandatory psychologists for footy clubs. Welcome back to the
- 37:45Speaker 3: Kenny Report and we'll continue to bring you the breaking
- 37:48Speaker 3: news of the return of the isis brides and their
- 37:50Speaker 3: families to Australia. These are live pictures from Sydney Airport
- 37:55Speaker 3: where one woman formerly associated with the Islamic Caliphate and
- 38:00Speaker 3: it existed, has arrived on this flight with one of
- 38:05Speaker 3: her children. We understand one woman on that flight in
- 38:07Speaker 3: Sydney and one of her children, and reporting in The
- 38:10Speaker 3: Australian suggests that woman will be arrested by Australian Federal
- 38:15Speaker 3: Police when she alights from the plane. Meanwhile, in Melbourne,
- 38:19Speaker 3: some ten or fifteen minutes earlier, a Qatar Airways flight
- 38:22Speaker 3: had landed from Doha.
- 38:24Speaker 1: On board that plane in Melbourne.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Three so called isis brides, three women who had been
- 38:30Speaker 3: associated with the Islamic State Caliphate in the Middle East
- 38:33Speaker 3: and eight children, so in all now back in Australia.
- 38:38Speaker 1: This is not confirmed.
- 38:39Speaker 3: We can show you the planes have landed, but the
- 38:42Speaker 3: expectation is on the ground. In Australia as we speak,
- 38:46Speaker 3: are four adult women who were.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Associated with Islamic State isis.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Brides and nine children, the oldest of which are believed
- 38:56Speaker 3: to be a teenage boy. So there you have it,
- 38:59Speaker 3: four I brides, nine children back in the country. There'll
- 39:03Speaker 3: be a lot more happening on this story tonight. We
- 39:05Speaker 3: do expect to hear from the Australian Federal Police when
- 39:09Speaker 3: those arrests are made. Let me go now to the
- 39:12Speaker 3: former Foreign Minister of this great nation, Alexander.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Downer, who joins us live.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Alexander, I've got to start with this breaking news and
- 39:21Speaker 3: get your perspective on this. You've been to these Middle
- 39:25Speaker 3: East hotspots your time as Foreign Minister. You dealt so
- 39:29Speaker 3: heavily with these terrible issues of Islamist extremism. What's your
- 39:34Speaker 3: reception to four adults who've been associated with Islamic State
- 39:38Speaker 3: being allowed back into this country with their children.
- 39:42Speaker 5: Well, let's try to remember what Islamic stated really about.
- 39:46Speaker 5: They were executing Westerners, cutting off their heads. They're trying
- 39:51Speaker 5: to destroy everything that we stand for.
- 39:54Speaker 13: And these four.
- 39:55Speaker 5: Women had gone and joined them so in Princeville. I
- 40:00Speaker 5: wouldn't allow them back into Australia, but there could be
- 40:03Speaker 5: qualifications for that depending on the backgrounds of these women.
- 40:09Speaker 15: I mean, do they have dual nationality. If they have
- 40:13Speaker 15: dual nationality, presumably you could strip them of their Australian citizenship.
- 40:19Speaker 13: If they don't, you couldn't.
- 40:20Speaker 15: Do that and you probably would then have to let
- 40:23Speaker 15: them back into the country.
- 40:26Speaker 16: But you know, this goes to the whole issue of
- 40:29Speaker 16: immigration and values. We shouldn't be bringing into this country
- 40:35Speaker 16: people who have the ambition of destroying our whole political
- 40:40Speaker 16: and social structure and system. I mean, my father was
- 40:45Speaker 16: the immigration minister, and I remember he is to refuse
- 40:50Speaker 16: to allow communists to come into Australia. Well, I mean
- 40:54Speaker 16: he was presumably not ultimately successful there as we can see,
- 40:59Speaker 16: but nevertheless, there was a strong view during the Menses
- 41:03Speaker 16: period of ensuring that people who weren't committed to our
- 41:08Speaker 16: way of life were kept out of a country.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Yeah, just on this and the obligations here under citizenship.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Isn't the government.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Being a little bit too cute here by a long
- 41:19Speaker 3: way by repeatedly saying they've offered no assistance here. They've
- 41:24Speaker 3: provided no assistance now because they have provided passports and
- 41:28Speaker 3: travel documents. As we understand now, it's fine to them
- 41:31Speaker 3: to say that under law they're obliged to do that
- 41:34Speaker 3: because they're Australian citizens.
- 41:35Speaker 1: But it is assistance, and it looks like they've already.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Organized some sort of social welfare assistance for their impending arrival.
- 41:44Speaker 15: Well, I was the Foreign Minister for a long time
- 41:47Speaker 15: and I was the minister responsible for passports, and I
- 41:50Speaker 15: can tell you you can cancel people's passports. You can
- 41:54Speaker 15: deny people's passports in certain circumstances, particularly when they have
- 42:00Speaker 15: allegedly committed egregious criminal offenses.
- 42:04Speaker 13: So this argument that somehow they had to give.
- 42:08Speaker 5: Them passports and have in that sense and then quite
- 42:12Speaker 5: literally in that sense, provide them with assistance strikes me
- 42:17Speaker 5: as being a very strange, a very strange argument. So no,
- 42:24Speaker 5: I mean, I think they, as usual with the Labor Party,
- 42:28Speaker 5: they're playing both ends against the middle here. They don't,
- 42:31Speaker 5: of course want to offend Australians, but on the other hand,
- 42:35Speaker 5: they don't want to offend those Australians who live in
- 42:40Speaker 5: some critical Labor electorates.
- 42:43Speaker 13: Let's be honest about that.
- 42:45Speaker 15: That particularly Islamists who might have some sympathy for Isis
- 42:52Speaker 15: and the Isis brides.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Now, just quickly on another matter.
- 42:55Speaker 3: You're a potential candidate for the federal presidency of the
- 42:59Speaker 3: Liberal Party.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Are you definitely running for that job?
- 43:02Speaker 3: And will you be in a contest with Tony Abbott
- 43:05Speaker 3: or will there be some sort of compromise.
- 43:09Speaker 5: Well, I have no idea who else is going to run,
- 43:13Speaker 5: but I've indicated to the Liberal Party that I would
- 43:19Speaker 5: be prepared to do the job, and I'd be happy
- 43:22Speaker 5: to do the job. And my basic position is this
- 43:25Speaker 5: is an administrative job, not a policy job. I wouldn't
- 43:29Speaker 5: be going into it to promote particular policies, but to
- 43:34Speaker 5: give back to as a volunteer, of course, because it's
- 43:37Speaker 5: an unpaid job to give back to a political party
- 43:42Speaker 5: which has given so much to me over the years.
- 43:45Speaker 15: So you know, I would be happy to do that.
- 43:48Speaker 15: And these are difficult times for the Liberal Party, so
- 43:52Speaker 15: I think some of us who benefited during the Howard
- 43:56Speaker 15: government ought to give something back to the party when
- 44:00Speaker 15: it's in some difficulty.
- 44:01Speaker 3: Great stuff, Alexander, thanks so much for joining us. Alexander
- 44:04Speaker 3: down of there live from London. This week, we've got
- 44:07Speaker 3: to get to a break. On the other side, I'll
- 44:09Speaker 3: catch up with Tim Blair and Mark Nicholson. I'm going
- 44:11Speaker 3: to try and get them to explain Anthony Alberanezi's problem
- 44:14Speaker 3: with the truth.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Let's bring in Tim Blair and Mark Nicholson for our
- 44:24Speaker 1: national cabinet.
- 44:25Speaker 3: And as usual, gentlemen, there's plenty happening this hour, the
- 44:29Speaker 3: arrivals in Sydney and Melbourne. Let's just go back and
- 44:33Speaker 3: have a look at them. This plane has arrived at
- 44:35Speaker 3: Melbourne Airport. On board it three Isis women and eight children.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Three women and eight children arrived in that flight in
- 44:45Speaker 3: Melbourne earlier this hour, and then just ten or fifteen
- 44:48Speaker 3: minutes later, another flight from Doha in the Middle East
- 44:52Speaker 3: arrived in Sydney. Here it is landing at Sydney Airport
- 44:55Speaker 3: and on board that flight is Jenai Safar and her
- 44:58Speaker 3: nine year old son. Isis woman a nine year old son.
- 45:02Speaker 3: We're told, gentlemen, as I see you on the wall,
- 45:06Speaker 3: that three of the Isis brides will be arrested.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Tim.
- 45:10Speaker 3: I can't understand why any adult coming from the Islamic
- 45:14Speaker 3: Caliphate at any time, wouldn't at least be taken into
- 45:17Speaker 3: custody for serious interrogation.
- 45:20Speaker 17: Oh hunt of percent.
- 45:21Speaker 1: I love.
- 45:22Speaker 17: By the way, the Labor government's line on this is
- 45:24Speaker 17: that we're doing nothing to help them, and they're trying
- 45:25Speaker 17: to make that sound very tough. Well, we should be
- 45:29Speaker 17: clear that the AFP taking all this action and arresting people,
- 45:32Speaker 17: the government is all hands off. By the same token
- 45:35Speaker 17: that they're saying we're not doing anything to help them,
- 45:37Speaker 17: they're not doing anything to help Australia either by more
- 45:41Speaker 17: or less clearing the path for these people to return.
- 45:43Speaker 17: They've been pretty slack.
- 45:45Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely. I'll tell you what I think.
- 45:48Speaker 3: John Spooner's cartoon in The Australian Today mark some that
- 45:52Speaker 3: what a lot of Australians would be thinking. He's got
- 45:56Speaker 3: one of the Isis brides arriving with her son and
- 46:00Speaker 3: does yes, dear, the Infidels are letting us return. It's
- 46:04Speaker 3: not as if we are Israeli's or anything.
- 46:09Speaker 2: It's it's phenomenal that you know that just that one
- 46:11Speaker 2: sentence captures the entire moral inversion of the moment, doesn't
- 46:16Speaker 2: it Like it's it's the hypocrisy This entitlement to mercy,
- 46:20Speaker 2: that the contempt for Australia, the hatred of Jews, all
- 46:23Speaker 2: in just that one thing. But my favorite be is
- 46:25Speaker 2: the glove as well. It's it's just it's a tactical glove.
- 46:28Speaker 2: It's a militant glove, which is exactly right. We don't
- 46:31Speaker 2: know how militant these people are that's coming here. The
- 46:34Speaker 2: innocent kid that's there, we just don't know. He's been,
- 46:37Speaker 2: you know, subject to this rhetoric his entire life. We
- 46:39Speaker 2: don't know how radicalized he really is. It's oh, it's
- 46:43Speaker 2: an absolute mess. And we all know that the Tony
- 46:46Speaker 2: Burke would probably, if it wasn't for the media, would
- 46:48Speaker 2: have been doing the welcome, welcome to the country himself.
- 46:51Speaker 13: And then we're probably kicking them up.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Grabbing the bags Japan, Winnie van Halal snack packs are
- 46:56Speaker 2: on me, Welcome to Australia.
- 46:58Speaker 1: That's what would have happened if it wasn't for the pressure.
- 47:00Speaker 3: I love your term their moral inversion. I've talked about
- 47:03Speaker 3: moral confusion, lack of moral clarity and the rest, but
- 47:08Speaker 3: you're spot on. It is moral inversion that we've seen
- 47:11Speaker 3: from this government on these issues. Let's stick on this government,
- 47:14Speaker 3: and let's go all the way to the top and
- 47:16Speaker 3: have a look at the Prime Minister. Last night I
- 47:19Speaker 3: focused at length on a running list.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Of the lies he's told. Here's a small sample.
- 47:29Speaker 14: I stepped back one step.
- 47:31Speaker 5: I didn't fall off the stage.
- 47:32Speaker 7: Heckler's booed the Prime Minister Anthony Albanezi.
- 47:40Speaker 13: The issues of.
- 47:42Speaker 14: Overwhelmingly, the reception was incredibly positive. I walked through the
- 47:48Speaker 14: crowd to the mosque and not a single person heckl
- 47:54Speaker 14: Grace tame.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Difficult.
- 47:59Speaker 14: She has had a difficult life, and that was what
- 48:02Speaker 14: I was referring to.
- 48:04Speaker 3: Hey, Tim, that's just all the fun stuff. Then there's
- 48:07Speaker 3: all the power prices and tax stuff, all.
- 48:09Speaker 1: The broken promises.
- 48:10Speaker 17: This bloke can't tell the truth. How do we know
- 48:14Speaker 17: now at this point that anything he said is true?
- 48:17Speaker 17: What about the whole Albo origin story. You know, grew
- 48:19Speaker 17: up in a house and commissioned flat, son of an
- 48:21Speaker 17: Italian Regan. Maybe he's a Neppo baby. He might be
- 48:25Speaker 17: the son of a slum lord. We don't know.
- 48:27Speaker 1: At this point.
- 48:28Speaker 17: It's all up for grabs. He's so bogus he might
- 48:32Speaker 17: not even know where Marrickville is. The eating stuff in.
- 48:38Speaker 3: That to be a plot twister for your cartoon series, Mark,
- 48:41Speaker 3: He's he's the son of a slumlord by the name
- 48:44Speaker 3: of Donald Trump.
- 48:47Speaker 13: Ma, I'd love to do it.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Honestly, The thing is it might not actually be too
- 48:51Speaker 2: far from the truth. Honestly that the contempt is not
- 48:54Speaker 2: in the lie. It's in the fact that he thinks
- 48:56Speaker 2: that we'll believe it. Our politicians used to put so
- 48:59Speaker 2: much effort into lying to us, you know, like Howard
- 49:02Speaker 2: how and our non core and core promises. That was craftsmanship, Like.
- 49:06Speaker 1: That's what it was about.
- 49:07Speaker 2: These guys don't care about him putting anything into lying
- 49:11Speaker 2: to us anymore than they think we're dumb. Yeah, he's
- 49:14Speaker 2: walking away from every press conference. Gone, suckers, what do
- 49:19Speaker 2: you believe it?
- 49:20Speaker 6: Now?
- 49:20Speaker 1: Your your cartoons are back.
- 49:22Speaker 3: I got to squeeze in a little sample from this
- 49:24Speaker 3: week's Please Explain.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Great Jody the Craziest Dream. Last night, everyone loved Pauline Hanson.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Hey, what are you watching?
- 49:34Speaker 12: It's just a bit of Sky News.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Get that off their TV plan, Hansen, Laulan, you've declared you.
- 49:46Speaker 1: It's great stuff, isn't it. Tim?
- 49:48Speaker 3: And not only does Jodie watch Pauline Hansen.
- 49:50Speaker 1: She watches the Kenny Report.
- 49:52Speaker 17: It's a it's a universal excitemon I love that we've
- 49:57Speaker 17: got a bilection coming up at the weekend. There isn't
- 49:59Speaker 17: even the labor candidate, but everyone's watching. And thank god
- 50:03Speaker 17: Scott's been doing a dedicated job on the Pharaoh by election.
- 50:06Speaker 17: It's going to be a lot of interesting results perhaps.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Yeah, great stuff. Thanks for joining us, gentlemen. We'll catch
- 50:11Speaker 1: up with you next week.
- 50:12Speaker 3: Tim Blair and Mark Nicholson, just a little bit of
- 50:15Speaker 3: time to squeeze in a couple of your responses regarding
- 50:18Speaker 3: Albo and his lies.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Donna says, the.
- 50:20Speaker 3: Wasteful spending of taxpayers money, the debt, the disrespect for
- 50:24Speaker 3: the media who should be doing their job, the words
- 50:26Speaker 3: salad and spin, disgraceful leadership.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Another viewer says he.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Will freeze over, Hell will freeze over before Albow tells
- 50:35Speaker 3: the truth.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Thanks for joining me.
- 50:38Speaker 3: Stay tuned Sky News all night as we bring you
- 50:40Speaker 3: the latest developments on the arrival of these Isis families.
- 50:44Speaker 1: Peter Kredlin's up next,
