- 2:06Yankee postgame host SNY, Yankee analyst and Fox Sports college
- 2:12basketball broadcaster Emmanuel Babari.
- 2:16What's up, Manny? What's up?
- 2:18Thanks for having me. That's a great graphic right
- 2:20there. I'm honored to be on and yeah,
- 2:22yeah, that's a really nice. I'm like hovering over Yankee
- 2:25Stadium right there, which is nice.
- 2:27Thanks for having me, guys. Did.
- 2:28Anybody ever tell you that you look sexy there?
- 2:30I mean, did your mom ever said you'll look sexy in that
- 2:33picture? I mean, that picture, she's been
- 2:35all over social media, so and you're wearing these nice suits.
- 2:38Where did you get this style? I mean, who taught you how to
- 2:42dress like that? You know, no one taught me.
- 2:45I just throw it together. And if you think that looks
- 2:48sexy, you know we're even. We're even more friends than I
- 2:50thought. I will.
- 2:52I will say the the lapel matching your tie solid.
- 2:55That's the very underrated look. Yeah, and what's funny is like,
- 3:00I have such a lack of knowledge for fashion that I didn't even
- 3:03plan that. It's just by chance that the so
- 3:07I appreciate that it came off that way.
- 3:08You know, it's interesting when people watch this show and they
- 3:11say, well, Errol wears these like tank tops and, and you look
- 3:14at, you look at guys like Mr. McAfee, who's been doing that
- 3:19for a long time. He copied me because I've been
- 3:21doing this a lot longer than Mr. McAfee.
- 3:23And Pat's been doing it for, you know, ever since he started.
- 3:26And everybody says it's his style.
- 3:28He took the style for me. I'll never get credit for it.
- 3:31But we're not, we're not here to talk about me.
- 3:32We're here to talk about you. We're here to talk about the
- 3:35Yankees and the New York Yankees fell short once again this year.
- 3:39But it wasn't because of Aaron Judge.
- 3:41He he had 500. He did what he was supposed to
- 3:43do. It was really because of this
- 3:46lousy pitching staff in the playoffs.
- 3:48Max Free choked. I mean, Rodon choked.
- 3:52And, and this is what the Yankees invested in.
- 3:54They invested into pitching in the offseason.
- 3:56They added Bellinger. Bellinger really didn't do
- 3:59anything like we thought he was going to do in the playoffs when
- 4:02all season long he was hitting over 300 against lefties.
- 4:04He was one of the best left-handed hitters in all of
- 4:07baseball. What what do you think happened
- 4:09to the Yankees? Why did the Yankees fall short?
- 4:11I think what you, what you said is perfect.
- 4:13Like if I went into that Toronto series and you asked me if the
- 4:16Yankees lose, what's going to happen?
- 4:19I never would have predicted that the starting pitching would
- 4:21be that poor against the Blue Jays.
- 4:24Now they struggled against Toronto all year.
- 4:26But Fried and Rodon, when you think about what they gave the
- 4:29Yankees in the regular season, especially in a year without
- 4:32Garrett Cole, that was astronomical stuff.
- 4:35They made every single start. They were two of the best
- 4:37pitchers in baseball, let alone two of the best left handers in
- 4:40baseball. Rodon had by far as best year as
- 4:42a Yankee. Fried had as good of a first
- 4:45year as you could have getting that big of a contract.
- 4:47And against Toronto, those two starts with a 2 worst Fried
- 4:50Rodon starts we saw all season, there's no start you could pull
- 4:54up. You go up the game logs, you
- 4:56watch any start this year, there's no Frieden Rodon start
- 5:00that was as bad as what we saw against the Toronto Blue Jays.
- 5:03So you can talk about the lineup.
- 5:05Yeah, Aaron Judge didn't have a lot of help in this post season.
- 5:07It was different in that he hit and everyone else really didn't
- 5:10hit. But you can't win with that type
- 5:13of pitching. They'll have 30, four runs in
- 5:14four games. You're not going to win a series
- 5:15that way. With Garrett going out and you
- 5:19obviously being around it and we see it from afar, what kind of
- 5:23impact did he have from the other side of it?
- 5:25Because you know, there it always, it sucks when you can't
- 5:29be in there, especially a guy that loves to compete like like
- 5:32he does. Did you notice like there was
- 5:34there a different passion or a different perspective that he
- 5:38tried to take beings that he knew he wasn't going to back?
- 5:41And then obviously with Cam coming in doing what he did, did
- 5:44he play a bigger role than than you guys anticipated just from
- 5:49the the competitor that he is or did you think it was going to go
- 5:53the way it did? That's a that's a really good
- 5:55question because Garrett Cole is always like to teach, but it's
- 5:58easier to teach when you're part of the starting rotation, right?
- 6:01And you're that ace and that guy that people lean on and that
- 6:04veteran. And then it's like, all right,
- 6:06I'm out all year now I'm around the team more down the stretch.
- 6:10How much can I share? How much do I feel comfortable
- 6:13sharing? So I think he did a good job
- 6:15striking the balance and he was a big reason why the starting
- 6:18pitching finished as well as it did up until the postseason.
- 6:21And for guys like Schlittler and even Warren, he was a big part
- 6:26of their their growth and development this year.
- 6:28But I think he felt more comfortable as he started to,
- 6:31he's a lot of this year's rehab for him and making sure he got
- 6:34over the initial hump. And then once he started to be a
- 6:37little bit more part of the fabric down the stretch, I, I
- 6:41think his voice started to get heard almost as much, not all
- 6:44the way there, but almost as much as if he was that ace
- 6:46leading the rotation. So I think he made a big impact.
- 6:49But at a certain point you just got to leave things to to chance
- 6:53and Toronto was a better team this year.
- 6:55And I think that's why you saw the pitching not maybe to that
- 6:59level but fall flat in the postseason.
- 7:01But Gerrit Cole was a huge impact, I think, especially the
- 7:04final four or five weeks of the season.
- 7:05So impressions of Schwitler, obviously he obviously the
- 7:08postseason is where he got broke out kind of from a national
- 7:11standpoint, but he's pitched really well the first three
- 7:13months since he came up with the Yankees.
- 7:14What were your? Thoughts on him?
- 7:16He's really impressive man. I think the Sky's the limit with
- 7:20what he can do. And and Aaron Boone said this
- 7:23and I I agree with this assessment.
- 7:25His floor is really high. Like when you throw one O 1 with
- 7:29ease, you're only going to get hit by so many teams.
- 7:32So I think we saw a lot of that his first few starts as a league
- 7:35hadn't really seen him before. And yeah, he'd get hit a little
- 7:39bit, but his floor was what, you know, 5 innings and two runs.
- 7:43You know, that's, that's a good start.
- 7:44And I think that's what made you so excited about him.
- 7:47And I also liked how he adjusted second times facing teams like
- 7:50the first team he faced twice and it was Tampa.
- 7:53He pitched almost a perfect game.
- 7:54He was through 6 and 2/3 I believe perfect innings against
- 7:58Tampa the second time through. So that makes you excited like
- 8:01his adjustments against a particular given lineup.
- 8:04And then I was fully confident going into the postseason given
- 8:07his his confidence, his demeanor, like his makeup that
- 8:10they talk about is so good. Checks every box.
- 8:12I thought he'd have a good start against Boston minimum, but you
- 8:16know, that's not one of the best starts you've ever seen from a
- 8:19rookie pitcher in the postseason.
- 8:20That's one of the best ever seen from anybody in the postseason.
- 8:24So he's he's special. I think a lot of things have to
- 8:27go right to have a prolonged career.
- 8:29He need health. You're going to need a lot of
- 8:31things to go your way. Like, it's not all up to you,
- 8:33but if everything you know goes as according to plan, I think
- 8:37he'll be anchoring this rotation for years to come.
- 8:39Is he as big in person as he does as he looks on TV?
- 8:43Yeah, yeah, he's, he's imposing. I think he has that perfect, you
- 8:47know, pictures, I guess frame where he's, he's kind of
- 8:55tantalizing in that he's not overly muscular, but he's tall,
- 9:00he's lean. And I'm sure if you're facing
- 9:03him as a hitter, he explodes at you because what is HE66?
- 9:06So you've been. Closer than we have.
- 9:09Yeah, no. When I walk up to him in the
- 9:10clubhouse and I'm 65, you should know that.
- 9:13About me. But I'm not.
- 9:14I was about to. Say, yeah, I'm not athletic.
- 9:16I can kind of be eye to eye with him, but he's like what I'm
- 9:19saying about his athletic frame is he's so much, he's so much
- 9:23more of a a guy you look at and say whoa, like that's a guy I
- 9:27don't want to face. Wait a second, Manny.
- 9:28You're not going to give yourself any credit for any kind
- 9:31of athletic. Ability.
- 9:32Yeah, yeah, especially we're talking about me walking up to
- 9:35Cam Schlittler in the clubhouse. I can't be like oh I'm 65 and
- 9:39E66, no, let's see here 6. 6/2. 25 I'm 65, like 2-10 but a lot
- 9:44less muscle than Cam. You got those like thin stilt
- 9:49legs. So he's got, I got it.
- 9:52I got what you're saying by the way.
- 9:53He can throw. That's why he can outside of the
- 9:55athletic gifts. That's why he can throw one O 1
- 9:57now throw like 60. Eight Well, if anybody doesn't
- 10:00know who we're talking about, we're we're we're talking to
- 10:03Wfans, Yankee post game host SN Wise, Yankee analyst and Fox
- 10:08Sports college basketball broadcaster Emmanuel Babari.
- 10:11I want to get into the Aaron Boone saga because a lot of
- 10:14people hate Aaron Boone. I don't know why they hate him,
- 10:18because if you look at what he has done as a Yankee manager,
- 10:21he's been successful. He hasn't won a World Series.
- 10:24Joe Girardi won one World Series in 2009.
- 10:27Jabba knows all about it because he was a part of that, but he's
- 10:31never won a World Series. But if you look at his record,
- 10:33you look at his consistency, he's one of the most consistent
- 10:36managers in the major leagues, you would say in Yankee history.
- 10:41He's one of the top five managers of all time.
- 10:44When you look at his his back end of what people, what people
- 10:48are saying on the back end and what he is, what you see as a
- 10:52manager. Why do you think people don't
- 10:55like him? Why do you think people want him
- 10:57gone? Yeah, I think it has less to do
- 10:59with everything you laid out and the fact that he can manage his
- 11:02team and manage it effectively, and behind the scenes he does.
- 11:05But when you're the Yankee manager, you know, Jabba knows
- 11:09this, We all know this. You're in the hottest of
- 11:11spotlights and if you don't win, naturally, you could be anybody.
- 11:16The criticism is going to come your way.
- 11:18And he just hasn't gotten over that that highest mountain.
- 11:21And a lot of Yankee fans, even the youngest ones, you know,
- 11:24long for the days of 2009 and how dominant that team was and
- 11:30some post season magic that's been elusive in recent years.
- 11:33So he he can manage his team. He can manage it effectively.
- 11:36And we've seen it in their ability to get to the post
- 11:39season. And I think personally, there's
- 11:40only so much he can do. Other years has just been
- 11:43they're better teams in the American League, like those
- 11:45years against Houston, they're better.
- 11:47So you can only manage what's given to you.
- 11:49And I think, you know, 2024, we saw a team that was on paper,
- 11:54the best team in the American League, and they went out and
- 11:57went to the World Series and lost the Dodgers.
- 11:59We all know what happened in that series.
- 12:01This year was interesting because I think you could have
- 12:04made the case the Yankees were the best team in the American
- 12:06League, but Toronto had some secret sauce where they had the
- 12:09right balance of players. Sometimes you can't quantify it.
- 12:12There's a special you know it factor with the group.
- 12:15I think Toronto has that right now and they have the right
- 12:17balance of superstar and role player and they all know their
- 12:20roles and they're playing it. So you look on paper, Toronto's
- 12:24not better than the Yankees, but are they the better team right
- 12:26now? Absolutely.
- 12:29Aaron Boone can only do so much about that.
- 12:30Manny, Manny, here's the secret sauce.
- 12:32It was jazz jism. OK, That was the secret sauce.
- 12:37Jabba shakes his head. I don't call him Chism.
- 12:39I call him jism. Because this man goes out there
- 12:44week in, week out. He has his own appearance, his
- 12:47own thoughts with his thick chain, his manipulation.
- 12:51And he goes out there. We're the best.
- 12:52We have the best defense. We have the best.
- 12:54This, we're, this, we're that. We're the best.
- 12:55We're going to win a World Series.
- 12:57And then when it goes, goes to the big game and the mistakes
- 13:00that this man makes, he doesn't get put center stage and and who
- 13:05takes the responsibility for that?
- 13:07Aaron Boone does. And and I'm going to go back to
- 13:09Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter after that game.
- 13:13They didn't blame Jazz. They, they went after Brian
- 13:17Cashman, they went after, I don't know, Aaron Boone and,
- 13:22and, and saying that Aaron Boone should have put him in a better
- 13:24position and this and this and that and that and probably speak
- 13:27up and speak to Jazz, not to open his mouth when he's out
- 13:30there and he is speaking to the press the way he does.
- 13:33There's just so much here. And, and they got to pay this
- 13:36guy in the offseason And I, I just don't want him.
- 13:39I don't want him on my team. If I was, if I, if I was the
- 13:42manager of this team or the GM of this team, I don't want him.
- 13:45Yeah, I wouldn't assume they're going to pay him in the
- 13:47offseason. If I had to give you give you a
- 13:50gut instinct right now, there's a short term marriage, not a
- 13:52long term marriage between Jazz and the Yankees.
- 13:55I'm not saying it can't happen, but are are you really like this
- 14:00guy's going to make big money. You look at his numbers and you
- 14:02look at the type of player he can be and also what he can do
- 14:06in a walk here, especially if he's motivated to go out and get
- 14:08that contract. I think this is perfect for the
- 14:11Yankees in terms of cashing in on this walk here.
- 14:13I think he's I think he's going to have a massive season this
- 14:15year and go out and get a contract.
- 14:17But who's going to give him that contract?
- 14:19This might get out out of hand for what the Yankees are
- 14:21comfortable playing their second baseman.
- 14:24But yeah, the question becomes you can have players like Jazz
- 14:27on your team, but how many of them?
- 14:29You know, there's a balance with everything and Jazz, sometimes I
- 14:34think you're looking at a guy who's ultra talented and can do
- 14:38a million things at an elite level on the baseball field.
- 14:41But is it consistent? Is it coming in the right
- 14:43situations? Is he taking what the
- 14:45situation's given to him? You know, you know, runner on
- 14:473rd lesson 2 outs. Is he, well, what is he trying
- 14:50to do? How's he approaching that at
- 14:51bat? So I don't know.
- 14:54I I like a guy like Jazz because he's very fun to watch at times,
- 14:57very talented. He can go on these hot streaks,
- 14:59but it really depends on how you want to build your team and
- 15:03there's only so much room for players like him you can only
- 15:06have so many of. Them Now, if you listen to this
- 15:07show, you know I don't like him and I'll tell you this, it can.
- 15:10I know Jabba loves this guy. I know he shakes his head but he
- 15:14has this like love fetish for him.
- 15:16I don't know what it is but you can have him.
- 15:19I don't get it. Good player.
- 15:20We we talk about it all the time.
- 15:22If you look at a 162 replica of what the season would be, he was
- 15:26the best second baseman in baseball.
- 15:28I was just, I mean, and I'm going by that and yes, were
- 15:33there times when you open his mouth?
- 15:34But I I think you're 100% right where you have to have the
- 15:38pieces of the puzzle, right? Like we brought in Swisher and
- 15:42that was that was a piece of the puzzle that we that is kind of
- 15:46jazz esque in, in that, I guess situation of however you want to
- 15:51look at it, but you can't have too many of them because it's
- 15:55just it, it doesn't work. You have to have the bits and
- 15:57pieces of is he going to get paid?
- 15:59Yes, 100%. Are they willing to pay it?
- 16:02But also, I think there's there's so many other pieces of
- 16:05that puzzle that have to come together to figure out where
- 16:07this team wants to get and what they're going to do.
- 16:10So my question is, where in this offseason, where do you think
- 16:15they attack first? Because I for me, there's a lot
- 16:18of ways they could go about it. Do you make belly a priority?
- 16:24Is that something that you do? Do you go look for somebody?
- 16:27Do you try to reinforce the pen? You don't know what's going to
- 16:31happen there. So there's there's, I mean, this
- 16:34is every team. We're not just talking about the
- 16:35Yankees. But where do you think where
- 16:38would let's let's put it to it, where would you go and where do
- 16:42you think they will go? Yeah, yeah, really good
- 16:44question. So and I like the Swisher
- 16:46comparison because that added some juice.
- 16:49You, you know, it being in there to to that team.
- 16:51And also like Swisher was a guy who wasn't batting 5th, he was
- 16:54batting 8th. And like that's where you could
- 16:56utilize a guy like Jazz in a in a great way where he's hitting
- 16:59it near the bottom of your line up.
- 17:00That's a that's a great player and and a great piece for your
- 17:03team. So I think it's all how you
- 17:04build it out and the different components.
- 17:07I would. I'm going to give you what
- 17:08they're going to do and what I would do.
- 17:11I think they're going to re up Cody Ballinger, and I have no
- 17:13problem with that. I think he was a really good
- 17:16Yankee, sort of a match made in heaven when he arrived this year
- 17:19and he can play 4 positions really well defensively.
- 17:22Underrated 2. Defensively, I.
- 17:24Think underrated, which is rare. He can run the bases, but I
- 17:27think there are some questions. OK, he's a little, he's not old,
- 17:30but he's a little older than some of the other options out
- 17:32there. How does he project long term?
- 17:34Are you going to give him a six year deal?
- 17:36Where's the Yankees cut off? I wouldn't call it a slam dunk.
- 17:39They re sign him, but I think they want to re sign him.
- 17:41It's all going to depend on the market and where it goes.
- 17:43And of course he's wrecked by Boris so he's probably going to
- 17:46get top dollar coming off this year.
- 17:48What I would do, I think Kyle Tucker is a better player.
- 17:51I just I think that's wing fits perfectly in Yankee Stadium.
- 17:56That's a guy who compliments Aaron Judge super well in the
- 17:59lineup and I'm not sure how many.
- 18:02I thought after 2022 Judge would never have another 62 Homer type
- 18:06season again. I'm like he'll have good years,
- 18:07but I'll never have that type of year.
- 18:09Well, two years since 2022, he's had a better war well-rounded
- 18:12season than even out in 2022. So I'm not sure exactly when his
- 18:16prime is going to expire, but I want to guy to hedge that I Kyle
- 18:21Tucker type when judge starts to decline.
- 18:23I think Kyle Tucker still in his prime and you could have him
- 18:26right alongside Judge in that outfield and that's the Yankee
- 18:30of old type of move where you have the best player on the
- 18:33market. You go and get the best player
- 18:35on the market and go all in for that championship.
- 18:39Not to say Bellinger can't do it, I think they probably will
- 18:42end up re signing Bellinger, but I would go really big and try to
- 18:45get Tucker in here. See Manny?
- 18:46We see eye to eye here. We see eye to eye here because I
- 18:49said I've been saying this all season, go get Kyle Tucker.
- 18:53I don't care what he did in the second-half.
- 18:55I don't care what he did in the last month.
- 18:57I care about what he can do in Yankee Stadium with that
- 19:01unbelievable bat. You put him behind, you put him
- 19:03in front of Aaron Judge. You're talking about a middle of
- 19:06a lineup that you're going to have to you're going to have to
- 19:08pitch to one of these guys. And I, I just, I agree with you.
- 19:12How about this one? So they're not going to do this,
- 19:15but here's what I would do. You have a lot of money coming
- 19:17off the books this year. You have a lot of payroll
- 19:19flexibility. I understand you maybe have a
- 19:21lockout looming, so some owners might be tentative to go crazy
- 19:25in this offseason. But a 2009 style Yankee
- 19:29offseason go re sign Bellinger and AD Tucker.
- 19:32You know, you know, Bellinger is just retaining that is keeping
- 19:35your team as is. So you're hoping things roll
- 19:37back the same way. Tucker's in addition, I hesitate
- 19:41to go into an offseason saying our big moves going to be Cody
- 19:43Ballinger because you already had that guy.
- 19:45You know that's part of your team if you want to improve on
- 19:48what you did. So I'm not saying it's going to
- 19:50happen. What I would do, though, with a
- 19:51lot of money coming off the books this offseason, if you
- 19:53could grab both, great. If not, you have to decide
- 19:57between Dominguez and Spencer Jones, who's going to play every
- 20:01day next year? Because if one of them is not
- 20:03playing every day. I'm sorry they have to get
- 20:05traded. Get rid of Dominguez.
- 20:07I don't want to see him anymore. I'm done with what do they call
- 20:10him? The Martian?
- 20:11I've seen enough. OK, OK, I've got OK, Tell me, as
- 20:15you've covered baseball long enough and we've been fans,
- 20:19don't you have to do something to earn a nickname like The
- 20:21Martian? I don't know the kid.
- 20:23I think he has tremendous talent, but I'm old school.
- 20:27Like you've got to earn the name, right?
- 20:29Like I don't care what you do. Minor leagues you got to earn
- 20:32that because that's a dumb nickname.
- 20:33It's a great nickname, and I think we're all in agreement.
- 20:35You got to earn a nickname like that.
- 20:37In his defense, this nickname, I think it was a Jeff Passan
- 20:41article back when he was 16 years old when the Yankees
- 20:44initially signed him. And I don't know where it came
- 20:47from, but he got dubbed The Martian.
- 20:49It was maybe in the article or somebody had given him that name
- 20:52on the side and Passan looked into it like.
- 20:55Yeah, because The thing is build, right?
- 20:57Because. Yeah, I must feel for him.
- 20:59He got Build the Martian at 16 years old before he had played a
- 21:01professional game. And I'd like he's getting these
- 21:04comparisons to Mickey Mantle, like who gets compared to Mickey
- 21:07Mantle at 16 years old. So this guy could end up being a
- 21:10really good Major League player, maybe not a star.
- 21:12He could be solid, he could be good.
- 21:14And I look at it, when you sign somebody at 16 years old, they
- 21:17turn into a good Major League player.
- 21:19That is a major success. A lot of guys flop.
- 21:21A lot of guys don't turn into good players, so the fact you're
- 21:24like putting these mantle esque expectations on him.
- 21:28He's handled it well. He he has a good head on his
- 21:31shoulders Dominguez, but it's unfortunate that got labeled
- 21:34that early because people started setting these sky high
- 21:36lofty expectations. All right.
- 21:39Quickly, I know you got to go soon.
- 21:40What is your World Series pick and who wins World Series MVP?
- 21:45All right, so I'm going to be pulling for Toronto a little bit
- 21:49like it's a it's an awful match up for Yankee fans.
- 21:51Like it's a team that beat you in a division rival and a team
- 21:53that beat you last year. It's how much?
- 21:55Better for Mets fans? I have to root for Max Scherzer
- 21:57and Chris Bassett or the Dodgers baseball.
- 22:00It's that all the way around. But I like the Toronto people.
- 22:03I have some people like broadcast wise that are really
- 22:07good friends and I would like to see them get a ring.
- 22:09So I'll be rooting for them in the upset.
- 22:11It'll be a nice story if they upset the Dodgers, but I don't I
- 22:14don't see them winning the series.
- 22:15I think the Dodgers are just they're they're juggernaut.
- 22:17They're too good right now. The pitching between Snell and
- 22:21Yamamoto and Glass now and what Otani did, that's a game of the
- 22:26ages. And Sasaki's closing games.
- 22:28It's it's ridiculous right now what the Dodgers are.
- 22:31I don't think it's going to be a rollover situation.
- 22:34People are saying like Dodgers and four Dodgers and five, no
- 22:37way. I think Toronto's pesky enough
- 22:39and they have enough fight. This series will go like 6,
- 22:42maybe not 7, but six games. But I see the Dodgers winning
- 22:45the series and Otani will be the MV.
- 22:47He hasn't hit all postseason. I'm a big law of averages guy.
- 22:50Like he didn't hit all postseason game four and has a
- 22:53game of all time. That to me is a carryover.
- 22:56He's going to have a massive world.
- 22:58Series Manny, I, you know, I, I, I consider you a friend now and
- 23:01you just upsetted me. I I mean, you had you and Jabba.
- 23:05Jabba has been absolutely killing me on this show.
- 23:09I would go back and forth with Aaron Judge and Otani.
- 23:13Who's the best player in the league.
- 23:14I got Judge, he's got Otani. I've made my points.
- 23:18He's made his points. And, and, and I, I I don't want
- 23:22to hear this guy. I don't want to hear about Shay
- 23:24Otani anymore. I want to be dumb.
- 23:26You know what? I was a little Otani doubt after
- 23:29a while because like Otani Otani, Otani, you got to
- 23:32appreciate the talent first and foremost.
- 23:34And and #2 at a when you hear it all the time, I, I compare it to
- 23:40being a Jet fan, which I unfortunately AM.
- 23:42And after year, after years of Tom Brady just steamrolling you,
- 23:46you're not mad at Tom Brady anymore.
- 23:48You're just like, we stink and this guy's great.
- 23:51So there's a Tom Brady moment for Shohei Otani where I watch
- 23:54him in game four against the Brewers.
- 23:55I'm like, I'm tired of complaining about him.
- 23:58He's so good, I just have to appreciate it.
- 24:01Well, hold on, hold on. I hate saying.
- 24:03It's a rollover moment for me. This is the Tom Brady moment for
- 24:06showing Tom. Brady, you bring up Tom Brady.
- 24:08We just had Rob Nikovic on the show the other day.
- 24:12He went back and forth with me. He loves the fact that I'm a Jet
- 24:16fan and we went back and forth. He made some jokes.
- 24:19He was part of the Butt Fumble. He brings up Mark Sanders after
- 24:22Mark Sanchez just got arrested and could go to jail.
- 24:25I mean, I I just can't catch a break as a Jet fan.
- 24:29Every single time. It doesn't matter if I have a
- 24:31Patriot on this show or I have some other player from the
- 24:34Giants on this show or Lorenzo Alexander.
- 24:37Oh, Lorenzo Alexander. You know what we got to figure
- 24:39out? We got to figure out how to
- 24:40complete a pass first and then we can talk about everything.
- 24:43Else I got it. So I've got it.
- 24:44I was out the game this weekend, and that was the worst football
- 24:47game I've ever watched. Yeah, you know, 13 is 6 against
- 24:50the Carolina Panthers. It doesn't get much worse than
- 24:52that. So I'm all into your misery
- 24:54about The Jets, and I'm tired of hearing about all these guys.
- 24:57We got to figure out how we could get a quarterback on the
- 24:59field who can complete like a basic pass.
- 25:02I've got an. Answer and that we can take Step
- 25:031 towards. Ready, ready.
- 25:05Here's the answer for all ages. You guys ready?
- 25:07I'm going to give you the lowdown before Manny goes.
- 25:10And Manny, we could talk off air.
- 25:12Here it is, ladies and gentlemen.
- 25:13His name is Fernando Mendoza. I have said this, Josh has been
- 25:20saying it. That is the guy.
- 25:22Jets, don't screw this up, don't win a game and put us in a
- 25:26position where we don't get the guy.
- 25:28This always happens. Keep Aaron Glenn just.
- 25:31For the 100 percent, 100%, yeah, like.
- 25:33Don't don't do anything stupid here like you did last year.
- 25:36Firing Salah in week 5. What was it?
- 25:38Keep Aaron Glen go O 117 and then get your pick at the
- 25:42quarterback because at this rate, if you keep everything in
- 25:44place, they're going O 117, So keep it.
- 25:47I agree with you, keep Aaron Glenn and if you look at Aaron
- 25:50Glenn and compare him to Robert Salas, everybody says this was
- 25:53the all time worst coach. Aaron Glenn besides two games is
- 25:57in every single one of the games and he doesn't have a
- 25:59quarterback that can complete a pass.
- 26:01That says a lot about Aaron Glenn as a head coach.
- 26:04That's. All I'm going to say get him a
- 26:05quarterback, Mendoza, get him, get a Mendoza and go from there.
- 26:08You, Manny, we'll talk to you soon and we'll get you on the
- 26:10show again. You're fantastic.
- 26:12Keep up the good work and we'll talk to you soon.
- 26:14Appreciate you guys. Good to see you have a good one.
- 26:17Emmanuel Babari, he's fantastic, fantastic, great personality,
- 26:22does a great job on S&Y and WFAN and Yankees.
- 26:26He's great. He really is.
- 26:28He's a good guy and I got a chance to speak to him a little
- 26:30bit and it was funny how we bumped into each other and it
- 26:35was, we were at Flynn's. It was at the last day.
- 26:37Flynn's was open and he was walking around.
- 26:40I knew who he was and I and it was just funny.
- 26:42It was a funny thing. There were a lot of MSG people
- 26:45there working famous GSN Why? I'm like, I know her, I know him
- 26:50and I'm like, why is everybody here?
- 26:52And then I figure out why everybody's there.
- 26:55Miley Cyrus's sister was DJ in that day at the, at the, at the
- 26:59place. And I'm like, and she's not very
- 27:01good, by the way. She looks just like Miley, by
- 27:04the way, but not the not the best DJ.
- 27:07I might have to teach her a thing or two.
- 27:09I just, you know, that's all I'm going to say.
- 27:11Jabba wants to see the PS and the QS or whatever he calls it
- 27:14and the CS and the DS Jabba, anytime you want to come and
- 27:17watch me and I'm going to send you a mix.
- 27:19You, you tell me your favorite music.
- 27:21I will mix it for you. And I like you like all music,
- 27:25but what is your favorite? I mean, you got to give me some.
- 27:28You like house music? I like any I mean, if you're
- 27:31putting a mix together, then show me what you got.
- 27:34You should. You should be able to to give me
- 27:37something that's good. I like that.
- 27:39I like that show. Me.
- 27:40Show me what I got. Show me what I got.
- 27:43OK, What do you got, kid? I'll show you what I got.
- 27:46You know, Speedy doesn't have much in his pants, but you know,
- 27:53anyways, that was Manny Babari. He was fantastic.
- 27:57Thank you to him for joining us. So I was taking a shower and I I
- 28:01listen to things. I listen to podcasts when I'm in
- 28:05the shower because I want to hear what other everybody are
- 28:07speaking. And I went through a podcast
- 28:11called Speakeasy and it has Emmanuel Ocho on it.
- 28:16He was a linebacker in the NFL, La, Sean McCoy, as we all know,
- 28:22Shady and Kieran Hickey Semple. I don't know who this guy is and
- 28:26he shouldn't be speaking. I wanted to get into this
- 28:28because there was something that came out recently.
- 28:32As a matter of fact, Russell Westbrook came out with a book
- 28:37and he mentioned something that I really wanted to get into and
- 28:41and here here's the story. Russell Westbrook calls out
- 28:44LeBron James fake new book excerpt about Lakers fallout.
- 28:48Now, Russell Westbrook was with the Lakers for about two years,
- 28:53and I wanted to get into what these guys said, and I'm going
- 28:55to attack it. So here we go.
- 28:58First excerpt. Is Russell Westbrook, there was
- 29:00a report that he reportedly grew tired of Lebrons fake behavior
- 29:04during their time in LA. Quote.
- 29:06I hate that fake shit. I just can't do it.
- 29:10Apparently LeBron quietly pushed for a union with Kyrie Irving, a
- 29:13move that would have required trading Westbrook despite
- 29:15publicly denying it. Out it on it too.
- 29:17LeBron also said let Russ be Russ in interviews, but didn't
- 29:21actually support him behind the scene.
- 29:24All right, so here's the facts. First excerpt that I want to
- 29:27attack here. Now LeBron James and Russell
- 29:30Westbrook obviously didn't see eye to eye.
- 29:32Now Russell Westbrook at the tail end of his career and he's
- 29:34still playing in the NBA, had a pretty good year with the Denver
- 29:37Nuggets last year. He was very big.
- 29:40He worked very well with Yokola Yokich.
- 29:44He he actually played very well. Now here's the the problem here
- 29:50and what obviously the brought up conversation where this all
- 29:53started. Now, Russell Westbrook obviously
- 29:56spoke and attacked LeBron James because he believes LeBron James
- 30:00was fake. He wasn't a great teammate,
- 30:02didn't really help him out when he went to the Lakers.
- 30:04As a matter of fact, LeBron James probably wished to
- 30:08bringing he well, he tried to bring in Kyrie Irving.
- 30:11That's what he wanted. He wanted Kyrie Irving, but the
- 30:14Lakers had no chance of getting Kyrie Irving at the time.
- 30:17So they looked at the second best player available and that
- 30:21was Russell Westbrook. Now Russell Westbrook was not
- 30:24the same player. He wasn't the triple double
- 30:27machine that he was in his youthful years, in his prime
- 30:31years. But the fact here is, and we're
- 30:35going to get into that and we're going to get into the next
- 30:37excerpt that I, I definitely want to attack.
- 30:40LeBron James has always been a guy that attacked players.
- 30:45Now you're going to hear from these guys that they believe
- 30:49that LeBron James and Russell Westbrook were two different
- 30:51players. LeBron is a quiet.
- 30:53He doesn't really go after players in in a way where he's
- 30:58throwing players under the bus as Russell Westbrook will tell
- 31:00you how it is and he's going to let it and he's going to drop it
- 31:03and he's going to give you his own thoughts to it.
- 31:05Go ahead, Tommy. I think Le Bron thought
- 31:10Westbrook was sorry and he was with the Lakers.
- 31:12Like I think Le Bron realized Westbrook can't help me win
- 31:14nothing. Westbrook gonna clog up the
- 31:16lane. He don't clog up the paint.
- 31:18I can't kick to him when I drive because he ain't gonna hit no
- 31:20threes. So what's the point in having
- 31:22Westbrook? And Le Bron did throw shade
- 31:24because remember when Westbrook was on squad, Le Bron all but
- 31:26said, I wish we would have traded for Kyrie Irving and we
- 31:29couldn't. So I just kind of got my hopes
- 31:30up. But if we really thinking about
- 31:32it, I think Le Bron thought Westbrook was sorry.
- 31:34And Le Bron did catch Westbrook right at the beginning of his
- 31:38epic drop off. Westbrook had like slow, slow,
- 31:41slow drop offs. He caught Westbrook right at the
- 31:43beginning of the major deteriorate.
- 31:46Hold on. 3rd like total opposite.
- 31:48Westbrook is like super serious super competitive.
- 31:50Westbrook is like super serious, super competitive plays with a
- 31:53super dog mentality with LeBron is like more chill.
- 31:56He played with dog if he has to. He's not as serious, right?
- 31:59You see him jokingly see him on different platforms, but that's
- 32:02different. And I think that's really what
- 32:04it really was like. We're just different people, you
- 32:07know? And like LeBron, I see him
- 32:08laughing and playing all that. We're rusting with all that,
- 32:11right? Look, look at look the way Russ
- 32:13takes criticism compared to LeBron.
- 32:15Rusty ain't going to say what you want to hell.
- 32:17So I think it was different, right?
- 32:19And you look at the way they are like like AD and LeBron, that's,
- 32:22that's more similar, yeah, compared to, to, to West.
- 32:26Hold on one second. So he said that he was at the
- 32:29tail end of Russell Westbrooks career when he went to the
- 32:33Lakers. Well if you look at Russell
- 32:35Westbrooks numbers with the Lakers, he averaged 18.5 points
- 32:38per game, 7.4 rebounds per game and 7.1 assists per game.
- 32:43Almost a triple double over there with the Lakers.
- 32:46Now when you look at tail ends now when he was over there with
- 32:49Russell Westbrook, he was the 3rd option on that team.
- 32:53You're getting third option points of 18 points.
- 32:57You're getting third option rebounds at almost 8 rebounds a
- 33:00game and third option assist that was almost 8 assists per
- 33:03game and you're going to tell me it's at the tail end of his
- 33:06career and his drop off? I don't see a drop off here.
- 33:09I don't know why. And I'll give a shout out to
- 33:12Shady. I'll give a shout out to what he
- 33:14was saying. He says, well, they're two
- 33:16different people. And LeBron has his own way of
- 33:19attacking things to Russell Westbrook, who doesn't give a
- 33:21crap. He's going to tell you how it
- 33:23is. But to come out and say, and and
- 33:25I'm not, I don't know who that is.
- 33:27That was Ochoa. I I don't know him personally.
- 33:29He doesn't know what he's talking about.
- 33:31He shouldn't be coming out and attacking Russell Westbrook and
- 33:35his personality and and how he is as a player when if you look
- 33:39at his numbers and compare his numbers, even when he was on
- 33:42Washington, he average 2211 and nine.
- 33:45It wasn't tailing. His numbers were practically
- 33:49calculated exactly what it were when he was at the top of his
- 33:53game almost averaging a triple. Double hit it, Tommy.
- 33:58I would suggest it's probably an overachiever.
- 34:00You don't think overachiever his ability?
- 34:02Is. You're crazy.
- 34:03Russ was an MVP three times. Triple double.
- 34:05Like overachiever. Meaning like he exceeded his
- 34:07talent. That's an effort.
- 34:08Oh, no dog. Really.
- 34:09No, he can't shoot. But see, the way he played, he's
- 34:12still playing. He played like a dog and he Got
- 34:15Talent. How many Parkers you see like
- 34:16him? Mercedes, if you average a
- 34:18triple 33 years in a row, that's crazy.
- 34:21But I'm saying that's in him. I can see him doing that.
- 34:23I can see him doing that. He.
- 34:25Does have crazy talent. I would say my favorite player
- 34:29is Steph Curry, right? Would you say he's over?
- 34:34Not quick, not super fast. Like, look at these small, you
- 34:36know, look at this Dirk. Nowitzki and overachiever.
- 34:40Russell Dirk was Dirk used to give buckets when he was a kid.
- 34:43He's to get buckets off the Charles Barkley own dudes.
- 34:44He's like 17. Steph Curry even go Division
- 34:47One. He was small.
- 34:47He's a small scony dude. 1 fast get bad ankles.
- 34:51Hold on one second. He went to overachieving and,
- 34:55and, and Russell Westbrook never overachieved.
- 34:58I don't know where they're going with this.
- 34:59I don't know. First of all, he came from UCLA.
- 35:02He was a high draft pick, all right?
- 35:04He was high. He played with Kevin Love.
- 35:06He he was a great college player.
- 35:08When he came into the NBA, he came and he played at OK C He
- 35:12played with Kevin Durant, he played with James Harden.
- 35:15He played with, you know, a, a talented organization and a
- 35:19great team that should have won multiple championships.
- 35:22To come out and say that you overachieved, having 3 three
- 35:26triple double seasons. The last player to do that is
- 35:29Oscar Robertson. And and to come out and say,
- 35:31well, you overachieved. He was expected to be a great
- 35:34player. Now he's not a great 3 point
- 35:36shooter, never was. But as far as going to the hole,
- 35:39he's one of the best to go in the hole in NBA history.
- 35:42One of the fastest guys we've ever seen play the game of
- 35:44basketball. I, I, I mean, I watched that
- 35:47science show on ESPN where they were comparing his drop off of,
- 35:52of going down, going down the court.
- 35:54Do you know many steps Russell Westbrook needed from one side
- 35:58to another, one part of the court to another to get to the
- 36:01hole 4? Think about it that way.
- 36:04Four steps to get to the other side.
- 36:08Think about that. Think about how fast you're nuts
- 36:11dribbling a ball. Russell Westbrook needed from
- 36:15one side to another from a basketball court.
- 36:18And to say that he overachieved, that he's not.
- 36:20And Dirk Nowitzki overachieved it.
- 36:22Did he say that? Did he say that Dirk Nowinski
- 36:24overachieved? Dirk Nowinski was one of the
- 36:27greatest international players that ever came out
- 36:31internationally from Germany when he was drafted.
- 36:34And now let me ask you a question.
- 36:36Nicola Yokich was a second round draft pick.
- 36:39You're going to tell me he overachieved?
- 36:40How many MVPS did this man win? You're going to tell me that,
- 36:44hey, you know what? Teams passed up on him.
- 36:46He's an overachiever. That is the most ridiculous
- 36:49statement. You know why he's saying that?
- 36:51Hold on, hold on. Why do you think?
- 36:54Because he's doesn't look like a, you know, a quote UN quote
- 36:58like normal looking athlete doesn't have that build that
- 37:02would say he's athletic. Track and field, track and field
- 37:05champions guys are. I disagree if you look at
- 37:08Russell Westbrook background. I disagree too, but I'm going to
- 37:10say it's like a, it's, I don't want to say is racist or
- 37:13stereotypical, but you hear that very often with like the gangly
- 37:17white guys like like Dirk, that they're not the same type of
- 37:21athletes as in Anthony Edwards, who's a high riser.
- 37:23Dirk wasn't a high riser, so he's not athletic.
- 37:26If you don't dunk like that at any point in your career, you're
- 37:29not, you know, you're not athletic, so you overachieve.
- 37:33Because you're not an athlete. No, here's the problem, Here's
- 37:35the problem and anybody and you guys got to watch starting 5.
- 37:38David Wells in baseball overachieved because.
- 37:40Hold on. Hold on.
- 37:41I disagree. I disagree with everything that
- 37:43you're saying right now. I disagree with it because if
- 37:46you watch starting five, everybody praises Kevin Durant.
- 37:50Everybody could praises Kevin Durant, the greatest big man
- 37:54shooter in NBA history, Really greatest big man shooter, Dirk
- 37:59Nowinski's A7 footer who really brought the three-point shot to
- 38:05the league the way he had from Germany.
- 38:07This guy was an international player who brought it to the
- 38:10league before Kevin Durant did, and he doesn't get credit for
- 38:14it. International.
- 38:16This is not an American player. This is an international player
- 38:19came from Germany played for team Germany all those years
- 38:23never won anything at the Olympics and it had nothing to
- 38:26do with I I don't think it has anything to do with color,
- 38:29nationality or any of that. I think it has something to do
- 38:32with the way they're comparing one one player who's one of the
- 38:37greatest players of all time to Russell Westbrook.
- 38:39Who are they kind of pushed out of the top ten top 20 that don't
- 38:43compare his skill and and and even though he was great, he's
- 38:48an overachiever. Hit it, Tommy.
- 38:52I'm a LeBron fan. I love.
- 38:53LeBron fan too. But this is like like we gotta
- 38:55be honest though, like he started this whole running
- 38:57around jumping on team to team like, like we we talk about MJ
- 39:00and all that and I don't make the comparison, but yo, they
- 39:03sucked too though. They sucked.
- 39:04They did suck, yo. And they stayed early on and and
- 39:07I stayed there though. Yeah, but they stayed there.
- 39:09But. They also drafted Scottie
- 39:10Pippen. They also got Tony Kuko.
- 39:13They they, that's weird, but that's a time.
- 39:15What I'm saying is yo like you can wait for that to happen.
- 39:19He was already waiting. He was already waiting.
- 39:21Different surrounded him with Eric Snow.
- 39:23Created that area, though he created the era of.
- 39:25That's a good point. But when when I say the era is
- 39:27like when LeBron was doing, when LeBron started doing it, we
- 39:30lived in an era of you better win right now.
- 39:32Yeah. And not winning a championship
- 39:34was unacceptable. The greatest player, you said
- 39:37that it was an era where it was like you better win that.
- 39:40Like not winning a chip if that was not.
- 39:41Accepted always, like always, right?
- 39:43With LeBron, how can you not? Well done one second now.
- 39:45Now I'm going to attack this because this is absolutely
- 39:48ridiculous. And I don't know what.
- 39:50And I give Shady a lot of credit because he's going back and
- 39:52forth with these two guys and he's trying to make a point on
- 39:56what LeBron James did say. These guys are saying that
- 39:59LeBron James practically left because it was all about winning
- 40:03a chip when they brought up when Shady brought up Michael Jordan.
- 40:07He didn't bring up Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, or any of
- 40:09these, even Kobe Bryant. These guys played on one team
- 40:12their whole career. They didn't jump ship.
- 40:14They didn't jump somewhere to win a championship.
- 40:16Then he brought up that they brought up Scottie Pippen.
- 40:19Well, Scottie Pippen was drafted in 87 and they brought in Tony
- 40:23Kukochi after that, and that was in the 90's, the Midnights.
- 40:25Then they brought in, obviously, Rodman.
- 40:28Here's my fact here. If you're going to tell me who
- 40:31LeBron James was there for seven years.
- 40:33He was with the Cavaliers for seven years before he made the
- 40:37decision. Remember that decision where he
- 40:39decided to flee, to go to Miami to win championships?
- 40:43OK, Michael Jordan was drafted in 84.
- 40:46He was drafted in 84. His first championship was 9192.
- 40:51How long was that? That was seven years, and
- 40:55Michael Jordan didn't have to win a chip right away.
- 40:58I disagree with them. I absolutely agree with Shade.
- 41:02You didn't need to win a chip, and LeBron didn't even win the
- 41:05win a chip to make a statement of who he was and what type of
- 41:09player he was. If LeBron James stayed there in
- 41:12Cleveland and drew players to come and play with him to win
- 41:16chips there, it would have made him look more dedicated to the
- 41:20organization that decided to draft him, Which, by the way, is
- 41:24where he's from, from Cleveland, OH, where his jersey was burnt
- 41:30after he went to Miami. And then after the fact, after
- 41:33he won his two titles and made his statement over there,
- 41:36decided to go back to play with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love
- 41:39because he felt bad for the organization.
- 41:42Go ahead, hit it, Tommy. LeBron James on teams that he
- 41:47has actually been on have never drafted an All Star level
- 41:50player. Michael Jordan's team drafted 3
- 41:52Hall of Farmers like that. It just, it is what it is.
- 41:55I, I, I don't think that Cleveland was a badly run
- 41:57organization when he was there. And that's just you.
- 41:59Saying that, but yo, do you know how many years it took for them
- 42:02to draft these guys? They didn't come to draft any.
- 42:04Year so 84 he had bad players. He had Dave Corzine as his
- 42:07center. 8586 they they were they were losing to the Celtics.
- 42:11Then you end up getting Scottie Pippen at 80.
- 42:13Seven, you end up getting. What about the part about yo,
- 42:15I'm, I'm a you know what? I'm a fighting way out of this
- 42:18situation. He tried.
- 42:19He tried to try to. I think he did try, try.
- 42:21I was. Seven.
- 42:22They went there and then he's also Celtics and then he saw.
- 42:24Like any help that is like. What are you supposed to do?
- 42:26He couldn't draft and you asked me about that.
- 42:28I didn't like that. Hold on one second now we're
- 42:31gonna go into trades or how about this drafting players?
- 42:35Let's go to the draft and let's talk about what he they're
- 42:38trying to bring up Michael Jordan bringing in Scottie
- 42:41Pippen and all these Hall of farmers that they drafted.
- 42:43Were they Hall of Farmers without Michael Jordan?
- 42:46The answer no. OK, we bring in Phil Jackson.
- 42:50Where was Michael Jordan going to be?
- 42:52Michael Jordan without Phil Jackson, The answer no.
- 42:55Now we could go back and forth and argue here points on
- 42:59understanding who was drafted, who was mod and and look at
- 43:02LeBron James James's Cavalier team a Gauskas was one of the
- 43:05best centers in the league. Larry used when they brought him
- 43:08in for Washington was one of the best defensive players at his
- 43:10position. He averaged 15 points and he
- 43:13gave you enough offense as a third optional player.
- 43:16They had MO Williams there. That MO Williams was a good six
- 43:20man to come out here and say that LeBron James had nothing
- 43:24and let's go to that eastern team Speedy.
- 43:27Tell us how many teams in the Eastern Conference was over 500.
- 43:30There were 5. Teams over 500 under that year,
- 43:33the six, the six and seventeens were all exactly 500 and the
- 43:37Cavs were the two seed. Only the Pistons were higher.
- 43:39I rest my case. That was a terrible Eastern
- 43:42Conference. Terrible.
- 43:44How hard was it to LeBron James to go through the Eastern
- 43:48Conference the way he did and go through an old Detroit Piston
- 43:51team at the tail end of their dominance?
- 43:55That wasn't a good Piston team. Prince was the youngest player
- 43:59on that team and he was old Rick Hamilton.
- 44:03I mean, that team was not Chauncey Phillips is at the tail
- 44:06end when he was going to go to Denver, when he was traded to
- 44:09Denver to come out and say that LeBron James did it himself.
- 44:14It was ridiculous. Teams in the Eastern Conference
- 44:17gave it away. What that?
- 44:19Then he played it, actually a good Spurs team and got swept.
- 44:23And you're going to come out here and tell us, hey, you know
- 44:26what? Well, LeBron James needed to win
- 44:28a chip. He needed to make a statement.
- 44:30He needed AB at the top of the game.
- 44:32He would have never won the championships that he would have
- 44:34won if he didn't leave. Hit it, Tommy.
- 44:39I look at Barkley, I look at news like Prash and Ewing.
- 44:42I could name you cats. That was super nice.
- 44:44But I was MJ, you know? You know what?
- 44:47You know what, yo, I can't beat. I can't beat him.
- 44:49I can't beat him. Let me join him.
- 44:52Let me just join him. Look, let me just join Michael
- 44:55Jordan. I'm gonna win me a championship.
- 44:56Let me let me ask you this. Or no.
- 44:58But I see that's why. Let me ask you this though,
- 45:00because we always overlook not prime Shaq, but prime adjacent
- 45:05Shaq joined D Wade. If, if, if if.
- 45:08D Wade ain't in Miami, Shaq not going to Miami.
- 45:11If D Wade was in Cleveland, Shaq's not going to go play in
- 45:13Cleveland, leaving LA and go live in in in Cleveland and
- 45:16Strongsville, OH. Shaq joins D Wade, D Wade wins a
- 45:19chip, but we don't ever say nothing about that.
- 45:22It's just what it was. Is that the same?
- 45:24Well, OK, now I'm going to attack this.
- 45:27LeBron James is in Cleveland and Shaq is free and he wanted to go
- 45:32and win a chip. You don't think Shaq goes to
- 45:34Cleveland and wins the championship with LeBron and he
- 45:37just decides to jump with Dwyane Wade?
- 45:39At the time that Dwyane Wade was really starting to break out as
- 45:44a player, LeBron was already broken.
- 45:46He was still in the LeBron was at one of the top elite players
- 45:50in the league when Dwyane Wade was starting to make a mark on
- 45:53himself. If you remember, think about it
- 45:56this way, and you go back and you bring up Shaq.
- 45:59Well, if Shaq, if Shaq went to this team or he wouldn't have
- 46:02went to Cleveland if LeBron wasn't there, oh, how do we know
- 46:05what Shaq would have done? Shaq wanted to win without Kobe
- 46:08and Kobe was never leaving the Lakers.
- 46:10And the Lakers knew that Kobe was the youthful player.
- 46:13He was the young player. They had to move on from one
- 46:16player to the other and they felt that Kobe was the guy they
- 46:20were going to lean on as the young player.
- 46:23That was the only reason why Shaq left.
- 46:25And if you ask anybody who was the better player on those 3
- 46:29championships, well go look at the MVPS.
- 46:31Go look who won the MVPS on the Finals.
- 46:35That was Shaquille O'Neal all three times.
- 46:37If you look at who was the better player of those that
- 46:41franchise at that time, it wasn't Kobe Bryant, it was
- 46:44Shaquille O'Neal to attack that. And here's another thing.
- 46:47And we have one more, we have one more clip, right?
- 46:49No, that was the last one. All right.
- 46:50So they went on and talked about players like Tim Duncan and Tim
- 46:55Duncan and, and, and growing the team that they grew.
- 46:58If you go back and you look at Tim Duncan, Tim Duncan and the
- 47:01way the Spurs built that organization when David Robinson
- 47:04left, they built it through the draft.
- 47:07It was different. They knew how to draft.
- 47:09If you look at all the guys, Tony Parker, Tony Parker was a
- 47:12late first round draft pick. Mano Ginobili was a second round
- 47:15draft pick. Then you bring in Kawhi Leonard.
- 47:17Kawhi Leonard was drafted in the middle of the first round.
- 47:20He was drafted from San Diego State.
- 47:22OK. When they brought up this
- 47:24concept and they brought up well, they won championships.
- 47:27How was LeBron to going to compete?
- 47:29And then they brought up the Paul Pierce Celtics and they
- 47:34said, well, look at Kevin Garnett.
- 47:35They combined forces over there and they brought Ray Allen.
- 47:39Okay, well, first of all, they traded for Kevin Garnett, did
- 47:42they not? He didn't go to free agency.
- 47:44They traded for him. They traded for Ray Allen,
- 47:48right? Am I, am I, am I mistaken that
- 47:51they brought in these players? Ray Allen was there first and
- 47:54then they I think, I don't know if Ray Allen came in free
- 47:56agents, I'm not positive on that, but they brought Kevin
- 47:59Garnett. He was traded for and what?
- 48:01They only won one chip. They won 1 championship.
- 48:05OK, when LeBron James went to Miami to combine forces with
- 48:09Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, he knew he was going to win
- 48:11multiple chips. And the only reason why they
- 48:13didn't win 3 chips is because the first year they were trying
- 48:17to figure each other out and they bumped into a a jigsaw
- 48:19puzzle of the Dallas Mavericks with an old Jason Kidd and yeah,
- 48:25a guy that overachieved. Yes, as they called it, Dirk
- 48:28Nowinski and he and Dirk Nowinski and the Dallas
- 48:32Mavericks and Rick Carlisle, who is now with the Indiana Pacers,
- 48:37ran through that Miami Heat team to come out and and I listen,
- 48:42these guys are football players and I give AI want to give a
- 48:45shout out to Shay McCoy. Love him, followed him and I
- 48:48want to give a shout out to him. I love your takes.
- 48:50I agree with everything that you had to say.
- 48:52And he's absolutely right. Patrick Ewing could have joined
- 48:55Michael Jordan. He could have Patrick Ewing
- 48:58never could get over the hump because you could never beat
- 49:00Jordan. If you look at it, the only
- 49:02reason why Elijah won won back-to-back championships is
- 49:05because Michael Jordan retired. He retired when his father died
- 49:10to go play baseball for two years.
- 49:12And then he realized he wasn't much of a baseball player and he
- 49:15went back because of BJ Armstrong suckered him to come
- 49:19and practice with the team. Guys, don't try to call me out
- 49:22of basketball. Basketball is my favorite sport
- 49:25and you want to come out, you want to attack and you want to
- 49:27make it OK. For what LeBron James did to
- 49:30Russell Westbrook, Russell Westbrook is not an
- 49:33overachiever. Russell Westbrook in the last 25
- 49:37years is 1 of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen.
- 49:42Everybody talks about James Harden, everybody talks about,
- 49:45you know, guys like Kevin Durant and LeBron James and Chris Paul.
- 49:48You're going to tell me Russell Westbrook isn't as good as these
- 49:50guys? You're going to tell me that
- 49:52when he averaged a triple double back-to-back to back years?
- 49:56You can't compare any of the great things that LeBron James
- 50:00did and he won chips. And I know Russ never won a
- 50:02championship and that has a lot to do with what he decided to
- 50:06do. Kevin Durant decided to leave
- 50:08OKC to go win chips with Golden State.
- 50:11Let me ask you a question. As great as Kevin Durant is, as
- 50:15much he's loved by everybody and how he's one of the top 10
- 50:18greatest players of all time, which everybody put, or how
- 50:21about Steph Curry? Let me ask you a question.
- 50:25How many championships has Steph Curry won without Kevin Durant?
- 50:31He won two. Now think about it this way.
- 50:33And I'm, I'm, I'm just, I'm trying to, I'm trying to hit on
- 50:36all cylinders on this. Steph Curry played with Klay
- 50:40Thompson, who's a Hall of Famer. Draymond Green is a Hall of
- 50:42Famer. Steve Kerr is a Hall of Famer.
- 50:44Coach, right? Not right now, right.
- 50:45Are we we on you have Wiggins, who at the point of you know of
- 50:51his top end play, he was one of the best defensive players at
- 50:55his position and a good fourth player on a roster.
- 50:59You look at those rosters, those Golden State Warriors rosters
- 51:03without Kevin Durant, they had more depth than they did with
- 51:06Kevin Durant on the roster. OK.
- 51:10And and and to go back to this and go back to LeBron James,
- 51:13LeBron James left, he went to make another three team mold.
- 51:17What do they call it? Super team, super team over
- 51:19there with Cleveland. How many championships did they
- 51:21bring home after that? They brought him one and who did
- 51:25they beat in the finals? The Golden State Warriors and if
- 51:29we go back in time on who hit the big shots in those games,
- 51:33was it LeBron James? It was Kyrie Irving.
- 51:37So going back to Lebron's quote UN quote greatness and why
- 51:43LeBron James is considered a top three player of all time and why
- 51:48LeBron just James decided to jump ship from one place to
- 51:52another. LeBron James.
- 51:54I'm I'm going to read stuff off to you guys that LeBron James.
- 51:56They say LeBron James never spoke bad.
- 51:59He's not Russell Westbrook. He doesn't come out nonchalantly
- 52:03and throw players under the bus. OK, well this is something that
- 52:08I wanted to read off to you guys because they don't know what the
- 52:10hell they're talking about. Infamously tweeted IN20005015
- 52:16widely believed attack at Kevin Love criticized his difficulty
- 52:22fitting into a new role with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- 52:26That's just one. That's not the other stuff that
- 52:28he said about Kyrie Irving after he left and Kyrie Irving decided
- 52:32to flee and leave LeBron James because he couldn't stand LeBron
- 52:35James. And then when he realized that
- 52:37LeBron James was the way he was as a leader, when he went to the
- 52:42Celtics, realized he should have stayed with LeBron James because
- 52:45he could have won more championships.
- 52:47He didn't realize how much pressure he needed he had on
- 52:50him, less pressure he had on him at not being a leader to go to
- 52:55the Celtics and realized that he should have stayed with the the
- 52:58Cleveland Cavaliers. What I'm trying to say here and
- 53:01what I'm really attacking here with what Emmanuel Ocho said and
- 53:06Kerrian Hickey simple said to LeSean McCoy is when you speak
- 53:12about something that you really know nothing about and you bring
- 53:16up Michael Jordan and you bring the players of these magnitude,
- 53:20this magnitude, and you're trying to compare LeBron James
- 53:23and saying that LeBron James would have never won
- 53:26championships if he stayed in Cleveland.
- 53:28That's false advertisement because Michael Jordan never
- 53:32left. He won how many championships?
- 53:356 greatness we're talking about. LeBron wants to be considered
- 53:39better than Michael Jordan. Did he not say that his own wife
- 53:43and children at the ESPY Awards came out and said the greatest
- 53:47basketball player of all time? Well, if you're the greatest
- 53:50basketball player of all time, LeBron, why did you play for one
- 53:55team and stay on one team to win championships?
- 53:57Why did you decide to flee and you didn't just go to one place,
- 54:00you went to multiple places to win championships.
- 54:04Let's see, you went to Miami to win 2.
- 54:07You went back to Cleveland to win one, and then you went to
- 54:10the Lakers to win another. OK, Michael Jordan ever do that.
- 54:14Magic Johnson ever do that, Larry Bird ever do that.
- 54:18Elijah won't ever do that. Do you want me to go on, Tim
- 54:21Duncan ever do that? Let's let's go on and on and on.
- 54:25You want to talk about greatness, you want to compare
- 54:28yourself to the greatest basketball players of all time
- 54:32and you want to say that you are the greatest of all time.
- 54:36LeBron and you guys, you idiots, Emmanuel Ato, you come out and
- 54:41you're you're you, you come out. You're an ex football player
- 54:43great for you. And I'm not I I again, I'm not
- 54:46going to attack Shady McCoy because Shady McCoy and he agree
- 54:49with everything that we both agreed to on what he was saying.
- 54:53You cannot tell me you cannot tell me that LeBron James is the
- 54:59greatest basketball player of all time and by the way, you put
- 55:02Steph Curry in the top ten. Stop now.
- 55:05I've got to give Steph Curry a little bit of credit.
- 55:07Steph Curry has not fled to go to play with other teams to win
- 55:12championships. Steph Curry decided to stay with
- 55:15one the Golden State Warriors. You and you want to you want to
- 55:20know my honest opinion to it. If you were to ask me right now,
- 55:25is LeBron the the top 3 greatest, greatest player of all
- 55:29time? Absolutely.
- 55:31Absolutely. But it's not because he stayed
- 55:34with one organization to win with that organization and show
- 55:38his greatness. No, He is one of the greatest
- 55:40players of all time because he built statistics to compare
- 55:47himself better than the great players like Karl Malone.
- 55:51Did Karl Malone ever win a championship?
- 55:53No. Did he go to the Lakers to try
- 55:54to win a ring? Yes.
- 55:55Did he win a ring? No.
- 55:57John Stockton. Did he ever go anywhere else
- 55:59besides the Utah Jazz? Did he ever win a ring?
- 56:01No. I, I, I, I'm giving you players
- 56:05that stayed or didn't win with other teams.
- 56:08Now Gary Payton tried to do that too.
- 56:11Gary Payton went to the Lakers for one year to win the title.
- 56:13I remember it didn't work out for him.
- 56:16Gary Payton never won a championship with the Seattle
- 56:20SuperSonics. I'm pretty sure he never won.
- 56:22He went, they went to a championship, but they never won
- 56:25him. And Sean Kemp never won a
- 56:26championship together. So the fact here is when Manny
- 56:32Ocho and Ako, whatever his name is, and Lashawn McCoy and Kieran
- 56:37Hickey Semple come up and they are attacking and they're saying
- 56:40the Russell Westbrook, he, he speaks, he's, he's, he's so
- 56:44overtone. He's, oh, he overachieved.
- 56:48Here's what I'm going to say. Russell Westbrook might not be a
- 56:53top 10 greatest player of all time, might not be a top ten
- 56:57guard of all time, but Russell Westbrook didn't overachieve.
- 57:03Russell Westbrook was the closest thing to Oscar Robertson
- 57:08in 50 years. To say that's overachieving
- 57:13tells me how much you know about basketball.
- 57:16And that's my take to that. Speakeasies.
- 57:19I, I listen to this show, I, I think it's an interesting show.
- 57:23I disagree with everything they said except LeSean McCoy.
- 57:27I disagree with every take they had.
- 57:29You brought up Tim Duncan, you brought up all these other guys
- 57:33and Tim Duncan never left the Spurs, Michael Jordan never left
- 57:37the balls, Kobe Bryant never left the Lakers and all these
- 57:42guys. I don't even put Kobe in the top
- 57:44ten of all time. Honestly, I would give Kobe a
- 57:48little bit more credit than he deserves because of the fact he
- 57:52stayed with the Lakers. Because you don't.
- 57:54Have. Kobe in the top ten.
- 57:56I have Kobe 15 or 16 in my rankings when I did it, when I
- 58:00looked at my rankings over the years, because there's so many
- 58:03great players got dude, you know, if you think about decades
- 58:06and and people forget it, Bill Russell was there, Will
- 58:09Chamberlain was there. Shaquille O'Neal was the best
- 58:12player on those Laker teams when they won three titles.
- 58:15He just was and he changed the game.
- 58:17He was a diesel. He was the most dominant player
- 58:19in the league at one point for five years.
- 58:22Was Kobe Bryant really the best player in the league when he was
- 58:25at at his prime? I don't think he was because at
- 58:29the time where he was at his prime, LeBron James was in the
- 58:32league. Michael Jordan was in the league
- 58:35before. As soon as Michael Jordan
- 58:37retired, LeBron James was in the league.
- 58:40So and then you had Tim Duncan and he had all these other great
- 58:44players. So you want to ask me right now,
- 58:48was Kobe ever the best player in the league?
- 58:52I would say he's won how many MVPS?
- 58:54One or two. I, I could probably tell you
- 58:58even the times that he won those MVPS, that LeBron James was the
- 59:00better player. So that's just my opinion.
- 59:04Now, people can argue that, but I just think that Kobe was
- 59:09great, but I wouldn't put him in my top 10.
- 59:12I wouldn't because it's just so many great players and so many.
- 59:15I would put Elijah on there. Tim Duncan definitely was there.
- 59:19I I mean, everybody gives all the credit to coaching and all
- 59:24of that. Popovich was a great coach.
- 59:26Let me ask you a question. Did Popovich ever go back to the
- 59:29finals when Tim Duncan left and retired?
- 59:32Never. He never even made it to the
- 59:34Western Conference Finals, never after Tim Duncan retired.
- 59:39So it just tells you how great Tim Duncan was and how much of A
- 59:43dominant player he was at his position and, and consider the
- 59:47greatest power forward to ever play in the game.
- 59:49So I, I just, I disagree with every one of their takes.
- 59:52And, and to say that that Wes Russell Westbrook was an
- 59:56overachiever. If Russell Westbrook's an over
- 59:58achiever, so is James Harden 7. So is Kevin Durant, because
- 1:00:03Kevin Durant never wins a championship if he doesn't go to
- 1:00:05Golden State. James Harden's never won a
- 1:00:07championship and he's considered one of the top 20 players of all
- 1:00:11time. You're going to tell me Russell
- 1:00:13Westbrook is not as good as James Harden?
- 1:00:17That's a joke. Just say that's all I got to say
- 1:00:21about that. So that's my take on the speak.
- 1:00:24Easy take on LeBron James those the footage the the thoughts of
- 1:00:31LeBron they might they have a love fest for LeBron James.
- 1:00:33I like LeBron James as a player personally.
- 1:00:36I have nothing against his game. I, I, you know, I call the NBA,
- 1:00:40the LJAI just think it's horrible to listen to the
- 1:00:45garbage that you know, that I've listened over the years in
- 1:00:49comparison to him and comparing him to Michael Jordan.
- 1:00:52There is no comparison to him, Michael Jordan, because Michael
- 1:00:55Jordan never fled. And by the way, when Michael
- 1:00:57Jordan left and he came back for Washington, the only reason why
- 1:01:00he came back to play with Washington, I know everybody's
- 1:01:03going to say, well, he played for Washington.
- 1:01:04The only reason why he came back to play for Washington is
- 1:01:07because the Bulls in 99 in the strike year, he wanted Scottie
- 1:01:11Pippen to come back and they would never bring in Scottie
- 1:01:13Pippen back. Management never wanted Scottie
- 1:01:15Pippen back and that's why they they moved them to Portland.
- 1:01:18If you guys think, I don't know basketball, I know basketball.
- 1:01:21The organization wanted to get rid of Scottie Pippen for two or
- 1:01:25three years before that, but because they were winning, they
- 1:01:27couldn't. And when Michael Jordan said
- 1:01:29that 98 was his final year because of the Scottie Pippen
- 1:01:33contract and that the organization was going to bring
- 1:01:36him back, Michael Jordan was never going to go back and play
- 1:01:38for the Chicago Bulls. And I'm going to tell you this
- 1:01:40right now, if Michael Jordan stayed with the Chicago Bulls
- 1:01:42for 99 and 2000, they win. They win another two titles and
- 1:01:45they win eight in a row. And if he didn't retire those
- 1:01:49two years, they would have won ten in a row.
- 1:01:52That is how dominant Michael Jordan was.
- 1:01:56So there you go guys. That's my take, that's my poll.
- 1:02:01Kiss my ass and try to take names and numbers at the time
- 1:02:05that you are. Anyways, thank you to WFAN

- 1:04:51If you want your life insurance, you need any insurance, Go to
- 1:04:54Ovie Mihali. He's got a nice smile, wears
- 1:04:57nice suits, and as he his wife says, he looks sexy everywhere
- 1:05:01he goes. So Ovie Mihali, we're going to
- 1:05:03enjoy him on Wednesday. I'm sure I'm going to get him to
- 1:05:07buy into Stranger Things, which is coming out in a few weeks.
- 1:05:11Did November, right? Yeah, that's right.
- 1:05:13Yeah. Ready for that.
- 1:05:14So if you're a Stranger Things fan, which I am, Final episodes,
- 1:05:20I've been waiting five years for this guy.
- 1:05:23So since COVID, Yeah. All right.
- 1:05:25So me too. I I'm I've been waiting for it
- 1:05:28finally. Is that how long it's been?
- 1:05:30It's been the last season. It's been no, the last 2002, the
- 1:05:33last season 20/2/2022, Yeah. But even then, before then they
- 1:05:37were they had the season already.
- 1:05:39Yeah, but yeah, yeah. But I I started watching it in
- 1:05:422000 so 20/20/2022 I'm. Sorry, the girl started as a kid
- 1:05:49and now she's like married to Bon Jovi's kid in real life.
- 1:05:53Yeah, she is like 27. She is, yeah.
- 1:05:56It's going to be fun to watch. And it's funny because they were
- 1:05:58talking about how the first time when she first was on the show,
- 1:06:00she was a little kid. So she ended up actually shaving
- 1:06:02her head. And I don't want to spoil
- 1:06:04anything, so I'm not going to, but I'm just saying she, what's
- 1:06:07it called? They asked her to shave her head
- 1:06:09again for the newer season and she said no, which, like you
- 1:06:12said, she's a 27 year old woman. I don't know who has like
- 1:06:15luscious hair like that and then just wants to shave it all over
- 1:06:17again. Jabba, you know, maybe Jabba
- 1:06:20would have done it. You know, he doesn't need to
- 1:06:21shave his head. He doesn't need to shave his
- 1:06:23head. I'm ready.
- 1:06:24I I don't know if Jabba would look like her.
- 1:06:26So I don't know if he would be a good, you know, good fill in for
- 1:06:29that. But Jabba, are you a Stranger
- 1:06:31Things fan? You know what?
- 1:06:33I've never seen an Oh you. Should you should start watching
- 1:06:37it? That's pretty good.
- 1:06:37That is really good. Is it?
- 1:06:39Yeah, I think. How many seasons is there?
- 1:06:40Or right now, there'll be a fifth.
- 1:06:43Yeah. So. 5th and final final one
- 1:06:45There's a really cool scene in the fourth season that involves
- 1:06:49an A classic Metallica song and. I know exactly yeah in.
- 1:06:53My opinion worth watching. Just master of puppets, baby.
- 1:06:57Master of puppets. It's.
- 1:06:58One of my Would you believe me if I told you I could play that
- 1:07:00song? On guitar, do you know I could
- 1:07:01play the drums, double bass pedal to that song.
- 1:07:04So we got to make. That I think the guitar is more
- 1:07:05impressive than anything, Laura. Screw you, what are you talking
- 1:07:08about? Just saying, Kurt.
- 1:07:09Ham, it was great. OK, And so is James Hetfield
- 1:07:13the. Grace of all.
- 1:07:13Time. And what do you think Lars
- 1:07:15Ulrich is? Lars was cool.
- 1:07:17Dude, I am a Metallica Fanny. They're my favorite band.
- 1:07:21Do not get me. Started.
- 1:07:22I feel like this is a discussion for a.
- 1:07:24Do not get me started about Metallica.
- 1:07:27I love how I love Metallica, but Lars was the weak link of
- 1:07:31Metallica. Oh, stop.
- 1:07:33First of all, come on. The weak, the weak link, and the
- 1:07:37most. Talented, had a double bass
- 1:07:38pedal so. That's what made it so it's easy
- 1:07:41to play double bass pedal. No, it's not, But it's not like
- 1:07:44he was freaking like a great drummer out there.
- 1:07:47Yes, he was. What are you talking about?
- 1:07:51Stop, Stop who? Who's the one who put Metallica
- 1:07:54together? Who's the one who put Metallica
- 1:07:56together? Who's the one who put?
- 1:07:58That and he was kind of a douchebag about Napster back in
- 1:08:00the day. He was and he had every right.
- 1:08:02People were stealing their music.
- 1:08:04He has every right. They were listening to them and
- 1:08:07becoming fans and then going and buying their stuff.
- 1:08:10Dude, they were they. Were stars before that?
- 1:08:14And, and first of all, what's your favorite?
- 1:08:15If you're such a Metallica fan, what's the best?
- 1:08:18What is the best album Metallica ever put out?
- 1:08:22Well, I would probably say ride the Lightning.
- 1:08:24No. No, you're wrong because it is
- 1:08:26right. Right.
- 1:08:27No, it's not. The one before master.
- 1:08:28Puppets. No, The Black Album was the best
- 1:08:30album. Most people.
- 1:08:32Will most sold album is the black album.
- 1:08:35That's that's not the best album.
- 1:08:37It, it absolutely is the best. No, it's the best.
- 1:08:41It's. Definitely the most commercial.
- 1:08:42It is the best album. But I would say there are three
- 1:08:45albums better than that by mentality.
- 1:08:47Oh come on dude, The Black Album is the best album.
- 1:08:50The album that has one on, It's the best album.
- 1:08:53Oh, stop. All right, I'm done.
- 1:08:54I'm done. I'm done.
- 1:08:56Butt plug. He's got one, that's for damn
- 1:08:58sure. Anyways, that's it for a show,
- 1:09:00ladies and gentlemen. Now you heard my take on
- 1:09:02Metallica, and if you want to hear any more, well, I might be
- 1:09:06doing something, so I'll, I'll lead you to that way a little
- 1:09:09bit, you know, in the next couple of weeks.
- 1:09:11Anyways, that's it for a show. Good night, it.
- 1:09:13It is the worldwide sports radio network, Radio network.
- 1:09:18Give me that chicken Curry.
