- 0:31Narrator: Were all groons except her stupid?
- 0:35Narrator: Were they held that way deliberately?
- 0:38Narrator: She felt a hand grab her ankle and she was pulled out.
- 0:44Priest: What are you doing under there?
- 0:47Narrator: She stared up into the face of a young priest.
- 0:50Narrator: A bruni, of course.
- 0:53Narrator: No grön could ever become a priest.
- 0:58Avug: Thinking.
- 1:00Priest: Thinking?
- 1:01Priest: I've never heard any grön saying bat before.
- 1:05Priest: What were you thinking about?
- 1:08Narrator: The cogwheels, how they turn.
- 1:10Narrator: The priest let go of her ankle.
- 1:14Priest: Get to your feet, girl.
- 1:16Narrator: She did.
- 1:17Narrator: The priest pointed at the surface of the table.
- 1:22Priest: Do you know what this is?
- 1:24Narrator: She shook her head.
- 1:26Priest: This?
- 1:27Narrator: He pointed at the golden hemisphere bulging out in the middle.
- 1:31Priest: This is Modhir, our sun.
- 1:33Priest: And this?
- 1:34Narrator: He gestured towards the three oval tracks around it.
- 1:38Priest: Are the orbits of Modhir's three planets?
- 1:41Priest: We are on this one.
- 1:44Narrator: He said and put his finger on the middle one of the three small orbs, each on its track.
- 1:52Narrator: He watched her.
- 1:54Narrator: She watched the table.
- 1:56Narrator: Nothing moved up here.
- 1:59Narrator: It was far more interesting to watch the cogwheels underneath.
- 2:04Narrator: She shrugged.
- 2:07Avug: So?
- 2:07Narrator: He looked shocked, but got his wits back after a moment.
- 2:12Priest: The mechanics you enjoyed?
- 2:14Priest: Move these planets and tell us where we are.
- 2:16Priest: Tell us when autumn will come, for instance.
- 2:19Priest: Look here, it is even marked on the table when the seasons change.
- 2:23Avug: Mom says she was born in the spring, so I'll probably live all my life in the summer.
- 2:30Priest: You probably will, child, but the world and time are bigger than one life.
- 2:35Priest: And if we don't remember that, we will never learn.
- 2:39Avug: Will we forget there are seasons without this?
- 2:42Narrator: She pointed at the table.
- 2:44Narrator: He smiled at a tone of irony.
- 2:48Priest: Perhaps not.
- 2:49Priest: But something will happen during your lifetime that we know of because of this table.
- 2:54Priest: That no one without a table like this cannot possibly know.
- 2:58Priest: Because the last time it happened was thousands and thousands of lifetimes ago.
- 3:04Avug: What?
- 3:05Priest: The planets will be aligned, and when they do...
- 3:08Avug: Are the portals for real?
- 3:10Narrator: The young priest nodded.
- 3:12Priest: Yes, you're standing next to one.
- 3:14Priest: It will open and take you to Ofsen.
- 3:18Narrator: Avug placed her hand on the cold stone wall that was said to be a portal.
- 3:24Avug: Me?
- 3:25Priest: Well, not you exactly.
- 3:28Narrator: Because I'm a grön, right?
- 3:30Narrator: Avug stared at the portal and then at the table.
- 3:35Avug: When?
- 3:36Priest: You'll be a mother several times before the time comes.
- 3:40Narrator: She nodded to this.
- 3:41Narrator: Then she had to take the children with her and the father.
- 3:46Narrator: She returned to her broom.
- 3:49Avug: Excuse me, Master Priest.
- 3:51Avug: My break is over.
- 4:00Presenter: Thank you for listening to Stories from Väruld.
