Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It's the Mark Simone Show. Live from the WOR LifeVac studios. Well,
- 0:11Speaker 1: the best columnist in America without question, Michael Goodwin in
- 0:14Speaker 1: the New York Post every Sunday, every Wednesday. All of
- 0:18Speaker 1: his columns are up on the New York Post website.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Michael Goodwin, how you doing? Do we have him there?
- 0:27Speaker 1: Michael Goodwin?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Yes, I can hear you.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Now we got you. Great column. So the left is
- 0:36Speaker 1: now weaponizing 9-11? Is that really the case?
- 0:40Speaker 2: It's pretty remarkable when you think about it. But the
- 0:45Speaker 2: New York Times, of course, is very resourceful in pushing
- 0:50Speaker 2: its agenda. And in this case, it argues that there
- 0:54Speaker 2: is a wave of Islamophobia in New York City right now.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Did you know that, Mark? No, I didn't. And apparently
- 1:04Speaker 2: it's just as bad now, even though we have a
- 1:07Speaker 2: Muslim mayor, the first in history, it's just as bad
- 1:12Speaker 2: now as it was after 9-11. And surely you remember
- 1:17Speaker 2: how New Yorkers marauded through Muslim neighborhoods, killing and burning.
- 1:22Speaker 2: You remember that, right?
- 1:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 2: That same... Islamophobia hatred is now going on in New
- 1:31Speaker 2: York City according to the New York Times. It did
- 1:35Speaker 2: not have any statistics to back that up, but it
- 1:39Speaker 2: had the feelings of Muslims who felt scared. And then
- 1:48Speaker 2: it was almost such a pathetic story. The next day,
- 1:52Speaker 2: the Times wrote how Incidents, anti-Semitic incidents against Jewish New
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yorkers are soaring, and all kinds of statistics, without a
- 2:07Speaker 2: mention of the Islamophobia. As I say in the column,
- 2:11Speaker 2: it's like somebody at the time woke up, the Friday article,
- 2:16Speaker 2: woke up Saturday morning and said, this is ridiculous, this
- 2:20Speaker 2: is crazy. We have to do a better... The real
- 2:24Speaker 2: problem is that Jews are being attacked, and synagogues have
- 2:28Speaker 2: to hire extra security. There's no mention anywhere in their
- 2:33Speaker 2: second story of mosque or Islamophobia. It's almost like they
- 2:39Speaker 2: have two different views of what's happening. And the second
- 2:44Speaker 2: view was closer to accurate. But I wonder who's really
- 2:48Speaker 2: running this place if they think 9-11... It's a good
- 2:52Speaker 2: day to run a false story about Islamophobia sweeping New York.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I mean, what's going on there? Is it the gremlins
- 3:04Speaker 2: who have gotten to the keyboard and it's a raid
- 3:10Speaker 2: on the computer system? Or are they just a bunch
- 3:13Speaker 2: of lousy reporters who hate New York?
- 3:16Speaker 1: Well, in their defense, they do run fake stories all
- 3:19Speaker 1: year long. It's not just 9-11. They're always writing fake stories.
- 3:24Speaker 2: But, hey, you used to work there. It's true that
- 3:29Speaker 2: they discovered genocide in Gaza, right? So they're very good
- 3:35Speaker 2: at finding things that don't exist. Not so good on
- 3:38Speaker 2: the truth. I did work there, Mark, and it was
- 3:41Speaker 2: a great experience in my life. I met many people
- 3:46Speaker 2: who I held up as standards of journalism. I'd learned
- 3:50Speaker 2: a lot from them. Unfortunately, the New York Times is
- 3:54Speaker 2: not the same place. It is now run by advocates,
- 3:58Speaker 2: by leftists, and the reporters, through their union, have exercised
- 4:05Speaker 2: control over what gets published, what's in the news, who's
- 4:09Speaker 2: running the newsroom. And if you don't agree with agree
- 4:14Speaker 2: with their mob mentality, which is anti-white and anti-Jewish. It's
- 4:23Speaker 2: progressives all the way. Then, of course, you are sick,
- 4:28Speaker 2: you're no good, and you shouldn't work there.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, the problem is, as you say, back then,
- 4:33Speaker 1: the New York Times was the finest newspaper. It's not anymore, obviously,
- 4:37Speaker 1: but most people don't follow this that closely, and for
- 4:41Speaker 1: people that aren't following the news that They still look
- 4:44Speaker 1: at the New York Times as if it's some sort
- 4:45Speaker 1: of prestigious, great newspaper, but they don't know that it's
- 4:48Speaker 1: a whole different paper. Maybe it should be Federal Trade Commission.
- 4:53Speaker 1: You have to, like, relabel it or something.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I mean, it's a remarkably successful business. And
- 5:02Speaker 2: if you ever take a few minutes and go online
- 5:06Speaker 2: and read their comments from readers, it's extraordinary how the readers...
- 5:12Speaker 2: are often complaining that the paper isn't progressive enough. So
- 5:17Speaker 2: they have the most progressive readers in the world, apparently,
- 5:21Speaker 2: who want even more, who hate Donald Trump even more
- 5:25Speaker 2: than the New York Times does. So it's a very
- 5:28Speaker 2: strange situation. And the editors seem either uncaring about it
- 5:36Speaker 2: or their power is deficit because it just marches on.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, wasn't there a time when the New York
- 5:43Speaker 1: Times was dying and they needed a bailout from the
- 5:45Speaker 1: Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim? And then they got this Trump
- 5:50Speaker 1: thing going and they saw that it was an incredible
- 5:52Speaker 1: business model. The money just came flowing in. They're up
- 5:56Speaker 1: to like 5 million readers. So is that why they
- 5:59Speaker 1: do it? It's just profiteering off Trump hatred?
- 6:03Speaker 2: I think, Mark, that's a very large part of the
- 6:06Speaker 2: reason because it's not journalism that It's an agenda. It's
- 6:11Speaker 2: a narrative. As I say in the column, when they
- 6:16Speaker 2: have a narrative they're trying to sell, they stack the deck.
- 6:20Speaker 2: They don't report it fairly. There's nobody ever quoted who
- 6:25Speaker 2: says you're wrong. They're always, if you just look at
- 6:29Speaker 2: the headlines, if somebody's always concerned, who's concerned, who's worried,
- 6:36Speaker 2: who's nervous, it's always the left. the left is nervous
- 6:41Speaker 2: that the economy is too strong, it's overheating, right? It's
- 6:46Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. And it just now seems to
- 6:50Speaker 2: be an unbreakable power within the newsroom, and it's apparently
- 6:56Speaker 2: making enough money that there's no way to assail the
- 7:02Speaker 2: content of the paper, because as a business, unfortunately, it
- 7:06Speaker 2: is succeeding.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's That's terrible. But hey, Mayor Mamdani is with
- 7:13Speaker 1: AOC at the 9-11 ceremony. They're caught laughing there. What
- 7:17Speaker 1: was that all about?
- 7:18Speaker 2: Yeah, that's very, very poor taste. And I think they
- 7:24Speaker 2: should have been smarter to realize if they had a
- 7:27Speaker 2: joke to share, they should have held off. But that
- 7:31Speaker 2: was a very ugly moment. And I'm sure that they
- 7:35Speaker 2: would say, oh, you know, blah, blah, blah. But Nonetheless,
- 7:39Speaker 2: it looked terrible. And you have to be smarter than that.
- 7:43Speaker 2: You know the cameras are there. You know the eyes
- 7:45Speaker 2: of the world are there. And so even a 10-second
- 7:51Speaker 2: break to do that, it's almost like a giggle on
- 7:55Speaker 2: both sides. It looked horrible.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Yeah. I still think it was deliberate, though. You know,
- 8:00Speaker 1: whenever he has to do something right, Mamdani always sends
- 8:03Speaker 1: a signal to his base that, don't worry, I don't
- 8:05Speaker 1: really believe this. You know, like handing the pen to
- 8:07Speaker 1: the terrorist lawyer. or laughing at the 9-11 ceremony. You
- 8:10Speaker 1: notice he hasn't tried to explain it or apologize. He's
- 8:13Speaker 1: letting it stand.
- 8:14Speaker 2: No, no. Look, I agree with you, General Mark, about him,
- 8:20Speaker 2: that he's always talking to his base. Anytime he gives
- 8:27Speaker 2: a speech, it's never about reaching those who don't agree
- 8:32Speaker 2: with him. It's about comforting the base. And I think
- 8:38Speaker 2: that's his one concern, is as long as he has
- 8:44Speaker 2: that base intact, he'll have support for enough of his
- 8:49Speaker 2: initiatives and for his place as the mayor, as a
- 8:54Speaker 2: strong political figure. That gives him credibility in his world.
- 9:01Speaker 2: If he starts to talk to people who don't like him,
- 9:06Speaker 2: even though it's better for New York, then he loses
- 9:09Speaker 2: the base. I think that's his calculation. Yeah.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Well, Michael Goodwin, great column. Everybody go read Michael Goodwin's
- 9:16Speaker 1: column from yesterday. It's up on the New York Post website,
- 9:19Speaker 1: and you can read him every Sunday and Wednesday in
- 9:21Speaker 1: the New York Post. Michael Goodwin, thanks for being with us.
- 9:25Speaker 2: My pleasure. Thank you, Mark.
- 9:26Speaker 1: All right. Take care. Hey, don't forget, I'm here three
- 9:29Speaker 1: hours every day. It's now 9 to noon every day,
