- 0:07Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of Inside the Charge. We've got
- 0:10Speaker 1: running back Ray Davis here and I'm Maddie Glab. Happy
- 0:13Speaker 1: to be back for another episode after taking a break
- 0:16Speaker 1: for the bye week because we all needed a little
- 0:18Speaker 1: bit of a break. What did you do, Ray?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Me and my friend group, once again, like we did
- 0:22Speaker 2: in Toronto, we decided to say, let's take a trip.
- 0:26Speaker 2: So I got us a Sprinter van, and we went
- 0:28Speaker 2: to see Rod Wave on Thursday in Pittsburgh.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Okay, I was wondering whose concert you were at and
- 0:33Speaker 1: where you were.
- 0:34Speaker 3: At when you were seeing him. Yeah, I was seeing
- 0:36Speaker 3: Rod Wave. I invited my sisters up.
- 0:37Speaker 2: They drove from Kentucky. We all met right there in Pittsburgh.
- 0:40Speaker 2: We went to enjoy Rod Wave, and.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Then we were like, you know what?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Let's add another trip to our road trip, and we
- 0:45Speaker 2: decided to drive all the way to Kentucky from Pittsburgh,
- 0:48Speaker 2: and they got to experience SEC football and a pretty
- 0:51Speaker 2: good weekend, and So it was a pretty good vibe.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Other than that, I stayed here the whole week, though.
- 0:55Speaker 3: I didn't go nowhere.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Well, you're being a little low-key about your Kentucky trip
- 0:58Speaker 1: because the social media that came out of that trip, Ray,
- 1:02Speaker 1: you were on the sideline firing up the crowd. Bring
- 1:07Speaker 1: me into that atmosphere.
- 1:08Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:08Speaker 2: The guy was like, hey, if they score, get loud.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I was like, all right, well, that's not a hard
- 1:12Speaker 2: job to do. And they scored, and I got loud.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I pumped up the crowd. But overall, it was a
- 1:17Speaker 2: fun weekend. Kentucky kind of does this Morgan Wallen walkout.
- 1:22Speaker 3: They walk from the.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Stadium and they kind of have like an honorary captain
- 1:27Speaker 2: meet the coach halfway through. So I was honorary captain,
- 1:30Speaker 2: me and Dion Walker. And it was pretty fun to
- 1:32Speaker 2: just kind of walk out and just see people go crazy.
- 1:35Speaker 3: But overall, it was a good weekend.
- 1:37Speaker 1: That's your alma mater. For those who do not know,
- 1:39Speaker 1: Ray went back to Kentucky to see his team beat
- 1:42Speaker 1: up on another team that he played for.
- 1:46Speaker 3: And that was Vanderbilt. yeah so it was like it
- 1:49Speaker 3: did you.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Feel mixed or you're like no i'm kentucky.
- 1:52Speaker 3: All the way through some people call it the ray
- 1:54Speaker 3: davis bowl um but some people.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Do call that i think i would.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Some people call it the ray davis bowl and i'm
- 2:01Speaker 2: i'm i'm blue and white all day i'm i'm i
- 2:04Speaker 2: love my time at vandy um you know taught me
- 2:07Speaker 2: a lot but my loyalty rides with the cats.
- 2:09Speaker 3: All day.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Are you riding with the Cats all day just because
- 2:13Speaker 1: they're hot fire right now? Five and one, top of
- 2:17Speaker 1: the SEC.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Top of the SEC.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Ninth in the country.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Ninth in the country. I don't want to hear nothing
- 2:22Speaker 2: from James, all that Georgia talk. I don't want to
- 2:24Speaker 2: hear nothing from the Bama boys.
- 2:26Speaker 3: None of that. We're first place. I don't ride the bandwagon.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I was a part of the struggle days, part of
- 2:33Speaker 2: a successful days also. So it's good to see that
- 2:36Speaker 2: the city election team can really embrace their team the
- 2:39Speaker 2: right way.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Do the other players on the team who are SEC
- 2:44Speaker 1: grads who played at SEC schools, do they talk smack
- 2:47Speaker 1: to you?
- 2:48Speaker 3: Heck yeah.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I mean, you know, you'll have your, your bets here
- 2:51Speaker 2: and there just, you know, who's going to bring food
- 2:53Speaker 2: or we always do 10 pushups on, on my count.
- 2:57Speaker 2: So you'll be in the middle of a play in
- 2:59Speaker 2: practice and somebody go down, down, and you got to
- 3:02Speaker 2: give a pushup and get back up.
- 3:03Speaker 3: But, uh, it's always some good rivalry and always some
- 3:05Speaker 3: good talk.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Like, Kentucky beat LSU not that long ago, so we
- 3:09Speaker 2: made Reed wear a Kentucky sweatshirt.
- 3:10Speaker 3: We wasn't playing, man.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Come on.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Speaking of LSU, Trey hopped on as a guest this week.
- 3:18Speaker 1: He was talking about Kentucky beating up on LSU. He
- 3:22Speaker 1: was like, you know, Kentucky beat LSU. They're a good
- 3:25Speaker 1: team now. And I was like, yeah, I'm sure Ray
- 3:27Speaker 1: has something to say about that.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Oh, you know what's even more crazy is he's my
- 3:30Speaker 2: locker mate now, so he's going to hear about it
- 3:32Speaker 2: every day.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Every day, Kentucky. How about them cats?
- 3:36Speaker 1: He said, he looked at me, he said, you know what?
- 3:38Speaker 1: I saw Ray when I got here and Ray was
- 3:40Speaker 1: not excited to see me. He said, well, I guess
- 3:43Speaker 1: Maddie's going to kick me off the podcast now.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Yeah. I was like, you know what? I stood in
- 3:48Speaker 3: for a couple of weeks. It's okay. Trey weighs back.
- 3:51Speaker 3: But then I was like, you know what? Trey, Ray, Maddie.
- 3:54Speaker 3: I was like, you know what? Maybe he could fill
- 3:56Speaker 3: in for me like D.C. did someday. I might get
- 3:58Speaker 3: another weather, so you could come take a day from me, Trey.
- 4:00Speaker 1: He can come take a day. But you are my
- 4:03Speaker 1: co-host this year, right?
- 4:04Speaker 3: I am.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I'm not letting go.
- 4:06Speaker 3: We're doing good so far.
- 4:07Speaker 1: We're doing good so far. We're building something good.
- 4:09Speaker 4: We are.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And Trey came in. He was like, okay, I'm the
- 4:14Speaker 1: guest this week. He was excited to just answer questions
- 4:17Speaker 1: for me rather than have to ask me some questions, too.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Nothing wrong with that.
- 4:20Speaker 1: So he had a good time, but this is your
- 4:23Speaker 1: seat this season. So you guys can fight all you
- 4:26Speaker 1: want about it, but it's yours.
- 4:28Speaker 3: We're doing good.
- 4:28Speaker 1: We'll have him as a return guest sometime.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Perfect.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Going to Kentucky, did you have friends that are still
- 4:35Speaker 1: on the team that you got to see?
- 4:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Still some acquaintances?
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it was still some good staff members who were there,
- 4:45Speaker 2: you know, in the ops and the recruiting department.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:49Speaker 2: It was definitely like going back home. I got to
- 4:50Speaker 2: see a lot of familiar faces, and some guys were
- 4:52Speaker 2: still on the team when I was there. But I'm
- 4:55Speaker 2: just happy overall for just that whole program. Again, like
- 4:59Speaker 2: Stoops really set the foundation. I got a lot of
- 5:01Speaker 2: love for Mark Stoops, and to see what Will Stein
- 5:03Speaker 2: is doing, it's definitely like a breath of fresh air
- 5:07Speaker 2: because this is what they need.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Stoops has been there for a while now.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Stoops was there.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I want to say he took over like early, like
- 5:14Speaker 2: middle 2000s maybe, yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Somewhere around that. I don't know. Actually, I don't know
- 5:19Speaker 3: if Stevie played for them. I don't know.
- 5:22Speaker 1: He was the head coach when I was working at Tennessee.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So I've covered games at Kentucky where he's been the
- 5:27Speaker 1: head coach. And that was like when they were starting
- 5:29Speaker 1: to rise. My last year there was 2018. Yeah. And
- 5:32Speaker 1: that's when they started to win some games. And it
- 5:34Speaker 1: was kind of like, oh, Kentucky's like a little bit
- 5:36Speaker 1: for real right now.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Yeah. They started really getting up there. We got some dogs.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Josh Allen Hines, you know, and I mean. I can
- 5:45Speaker 2: keep going on and on, but that's just one guy
- 5:47Speaker 2: who was a part of those years of it upcoming.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Len Bowden, Benny Snell, like those are the real, real
- 5:53Speaker 2: it factor guys who I think started that trend of
- 5:56Speaker 2: like Kentucky being that blue-collar to hard-nosed team.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I didn't see Rod Wave, but I did go to
- 6:02Speaker 1: a concert this weekend, and I was low-key like, hmm,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I wonder if Ray's going to pop up here somehow
- 6:08Speaker 1: because you went to Rufus. Rufus to Seoul.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Who did you see?
- 6:12Speaker 1: I saw John Summitt in Hamilton.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Oh. I've been with John Summit before in Miami.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where he lives. He's doing a couple shows
- 6:19Speaker 1: there on his tour.
- 6:21Speaker 3: He's good house music.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I like him. Yeah, really good house music.
- 6:24Speaker 3: When I had moved to Miami, I did get into
- 6:26Speaker 3: a lot of house music. And Rufus, obviously.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I like it.
- 6:30Speaker 3: How was your Bible game?
- 6:31Speaker 4: It was good.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Went to Canada, Muskoka, which is like four hours straight
- 6:36Speaker 1: north of here.
- 6:37Speaker 3: You drove?
- 6:38Speaker 1: So it's north of Toronto, a few hours north of Toronto.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Drove with my husband. Got a cabin in. Did some hiking.
- 6:44Speaker 1: We saw a moose.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Oh, those are real.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 1: We saw a huge moose. It was just on the
- 6:49Speaker 1: side of the road. And we pull up and there's
- 6:51Speaker 1: like all these cars. And I'm like, what the heck
- 6:53Speaker 1: is going on? It's like, okay, pull over.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Stop.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Don't even close your door because I don't want you
- 6:58Speaker 1: to scare whatever people are like watching right now. And
- 7:03Speaker 1: so we saw like this huge moose. It was far away.
- 7:06Speaker 1: We were safe. But it was just like eating grass
- 7:10Speaker 1: and leaves on the side of the road. It was nuts.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Got a video of it.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I didn't think mooses were real.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I've seen a moose only once before in Colorado. So
- 7:18Speaker 1: if you want to see moose, go to Muskoka.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Muskoka?
- 7:21Speaker 1: Muskoka, Canada.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Muskoka, Canada. Four hours? I could do a four-hour drive.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Was it a boring four-hour drive?
- 7:28Speaker 1: Well, it was pretty because it's like fall foliage right now.
- 7:30Speaker 1: So you got to see all the pretty trees. Put
- 7:32Speaker 1: on a good podcast. Put on a good playlist. You're good.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I'm also a passenger princess.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I drive.
- 7:38Speaker 3: I drive.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I'm okay with driving. I just got to hang out
- 7:41Speaker 1: and eat my snacks, scroll on Instagram. Yeah.
- 7:45Speaker 3: I'm a driver. I'm okay with driving.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That's how my husband is too.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Cause you feel, you feel in control. Like you feel control.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Like you could, swerve lanes and no one tell you anything.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Except the person next to you. That's like, what
- 7:56Speaker 1: are you doing? Slow down.
- 7:58Speaker 5: I'd be like, you might as well go.
- 7:59Speaker 1: On the back. But yeah, it was a good bi-week.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Happy to get a little break, but also happy to
- 8:04Speaker 1: be back for week eight. In terms of bi-week, Ray,
- 8:08Speaker 1: is it more important for you to get a mental
- 8:11Speaker 1: break or a physical break?
- 8:15Speaker 3: I think both really.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Uh, but definitely I would say mental just because you're,
- 8:21Speaker 2: You're in this.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Building each and every day. You're football, football, football.
- 8:24Speaker 2: So to be able to have some time away where
- 8:26Speaker 2: you could just kind of focus on yourself and just.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Really just take a big deep breath. Yeah.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And then exhale because, you know, you're letting all that go.
- 8:37Speaker 2: So definitely on the mental side is big.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You've had an awesome last two games in terms of
- 8:43Speaker 1: kick return stats. Last two? opening kickoff returns go at
- 8:49Speaker 1: least 40 yards. You're the first person to do that
- 8:52Speaker 1: since 2010. How did you deal with being patient leading
- 8:57Speaker 1: up to those weeks?
- 8:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 2: McDermott's, you know, told me something last year that's kind
- 9:03Speaker 2: of always stuck with me. And, you know, he was like,
- 9:06Speaker 2: if people don't notice you, then make them notice you.
- 9:10Speaker 2: And throughout the whole first couple of weeks, you know,
- 9:13Speaker 2: I was hearing things and saw things on Twitter, heard
- 9:16Speaker 2: all these rumors. And, you know, I was just like, man,
- 9:19Speaker 2: like once I get my opportunity, I'm going to make
- 9:21Speaker 2: people notice me. I'm going to make people realize that
- 9:22Speaker 2: I am who I am. And there was a reason
- 9:25Speaker 2: why I was the best kick returner last year. And
- 9:26Speaker 2: there's going to be a reason why I'm the best
- 9:27Speaker 2: kick returner this year. And, um, I'm all, I'm always
- 9:30Speaker 2: very humbled. And I think just in these past couple
- 9:32Speaker 2: of weeks, like I've kind of shied away from the
- 9:34Speaker 2: humbleness because again, like I know what I'm capable of doing.
- 9:38Speaker 2: And if I don't get the opportunity to do it,
- 9:39Speaker 2: then I'm going to find a way to do it. And, um,
- 9:41Speaker 2: I'm going to make you notice it. So just that, that, uh,
- 9:45Speaker 2: kind of being patient goes back to just that conversation
- 9:48Speaker 2: me and McDermott had. It was, it was hard last
- 9:50Speaker 2: season for me not getting the things that I wanted
- 9:52Speaker 2: to get, but then coming into this season, it was like,
- 9:54Speaker 2: it's gonna come eventually right like um you're gonna have
- 9:58Speaker 2: to kick it to me and I'm gonna you know
- 10:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna make you pay and I'm gonna make you
- 10:02Speaker 2: notice why I'm the best kick returner in the NFL
- 10:04Speaker 2: um so yeah.
- 10:05Speaker 1: It's almost like being patient like set that fire.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Even more yeah heck yeah and.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Within you to like want to really perform heck.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah heck yeah I mean you know As much as
- 10:16Speaker 2: we all say we try to stay off the internet
- 10:18Speaker 2: and we try to stay off all this stuff.
- 10:19Speaker 3: It's hard.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you hear these things. You hear people criticize you
- 10:23Speaker 2: and et cetera, et cetera. So just staying patient and
- 10:26Speaker 2: knowing my time was going to come. But it definitely
- 10:28Speaker 2: built a fire in me to be like, all right,
- 10:30Speaker 2: when I get this ball in my hand, I'm going
- 10:32Speaker 2: to do something. And then also having a great counterpart
- 10:35Speaker 2: like Dorch. What he did the first couple weeks and
- 10:38Speaker 2: what he's been doing. I mean, he's in the top
- 10:41Speaker 2: 15 right now and returns average. So once he kind
- 10:44Speaker 2: of started torching him, I think they had to pick
- 10:47Speaker 2: their poison. And once they kind of came back to me,
- 10:49Speaker 2: it was like, I don't know who to go to now. So,
- 10:51Speaker 2: so it's, it's good to have a counterpart, like counterpart
- 10:53Speaker 2: in my door.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:54Speaker 1: How do you build off of the last two weeks
- 10:58Speaker 1: knowing that you don't have control of who they're going
- 11:00Speaker 1: to kick the ball to?
- 11:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I mean, just by staying confident, you know what I'm saying?
- 11:04Speaker 2: And understanding that eventually it's, it's going to get kicked
- 11:07Speaker 2: to me.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Like I might get one opportunity. Right.
- 11:11Speaker 2: And, And whatever I do with that opportunity, I just
- 11:14Speaker 2: got to go make the most of it. So I
- 11:17Speaker 2: kind of just take it.
- 11:19Speaker 3: For what it is and understand that you can't kick
- 11:21Speaker 3: at the door. It's the whole game.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Because he's going to gas you for 50 to 60, too.
- 11:25Speaker 2: So you got to figure out who you want.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I like it. Six weeks in. Well, six games in,
- 11:32Speaker 1: I should say. It's week eight. Five and one. The
- 11:35Speaker 1: offense is humming. Josh Allen and James Cook are doing
- 11:39Speaker 1: a great job of scoring points and putting the team
- 11:42Speaker 1: in good position to win. Defense is getting after the
- 11:44Speaker 1: quarterback and also making strides in the right direction every
- 11:48Speaker 1: single game. What is the identity of the team to
- 11:50Speaker 1: you right now?
- 11:51Speaker 3: I think what it's always been.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Kind of going back to the comment I made about
- 11:55Speaker 2: Kentucky football, which is not similar, but just in terms
- 11:58Speaker 2: of being like this hard-nosed, blue-collar team, we're embracing each other,
- 12:02Speaker 2: we're embracing our culture, and we're just embracing who.
- 12:04Speaker 3: We are as individuals.
- 12:06Speaker 2: We really, really lived that term of just putting the
- 12:09Speaker 2: ball down and going. I think you saw that last
- 12:11Speaker 2: week being on the road, being on the West Coast
- 12:14Speaker 2: for about a week and a half, it felt like, and,
- 12:16Speaker 2: you know, playing two really tough teams and having to
- 12:19Speaker 2: adjust to the times they're on, adjust to just the
- 12:21Speaker 2: scheduling and not being home, not seeing family. So our
- 12:25Speaker 2: identity is putting that ball down and just playing those.
- 12:28Speaker 2: You've got to play us for four straight quarters. And
- 12:30Speaker 2: when you have, again, like the best quarterback in the world,
- 12:33Speaker 2: you've got– One of the best O-liners in the NFL.
- 12:36Speaker 2: One of the top five running back in the NFL. Like,
- 12:39Speaker 2: you got guys who are going to go out there
- 12:40Speaker 2: and play their butts off. And then defensively, you got
- 12:42Speaker 2: guys who are going to come out there and give
- 12:44Speaker 2: it their all, right? Like, we showed there was no
- 12:46Speaker 2: quit in our defense. Whatever you want to say about, like,
- 12:50Speaker 2: there's no quit. There's always going to be a fight
- 12:52Speaker 2: to that last whistle. And you watch both games. They
- 12:55Speaker 2: were dogfights to the last whistle.
- 12:57Speaker 3: And our dinners, we're just going to fight. Come on.
- 13:01Speaker 3: It's 12 rounds. Hey, come on.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Well, I'll ask you. I like it. I like it.
- 13:06Speaker 1: That's awesome to hear. Okay, we're taking a break. Interview
- 13:09Speaker 1: with Trey up next, and then we're going to come
- 13:11Speaker 1: back with more. So keep it locked right here. Tredavious White,
- 13:15Speaker 1: welcome back to Inside the Charge. I got to say,
- 13:19Speaker 1: I've been waiting. I've been waiting. I've been wishing. I've
- 13:23Speaker 1: been hoping. I've been praying. When will Trey White come
- 13:27Speaker 1: back to the Bills? My dreams came true.
- 13:30Speaker 4: I've been doing everything that you just said. I was
- 13:32Speaker 4: doing the same thing. I was, you know, I was
- 13:34Speaker 4: been chilling at the house, relaxing, resting my feet, getting
- 13:40Speaker 4: a lot of sleep. I haven't had an alarm in
- 13:42Speaker 4: so long. So the alarm went off a couple of
- 13:45Speaker 4: days ago and I was like, whoo, I haven't heard
- 13:48Speaker 4: one of these in like six, seven months. But everything
- 13:51Speaker 4: has been great. great to have me back on the
- 13:53Speaker 4: show yeah i'm a guest this time yeah usually i'm
- 13:57Speaker 4: in a different seat.
- 13:58Speaker 1: You're the guest this time so i'm the guest keeping
- 14:00Speaker 1: the seat open for you oh for sure.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Like i'm looking forward to i know you got something
- 14:03Speaker 4: good i know.
- 14:03Speaker 1: This is gonna be a good show it's gonna be
- 14:05Speaker 1: a good interview you signed back to the practice squad
- 14:08Speaker 1: last week your ninth season with the bills how did
- 14:13Speaker 1: the decision to return come together trey uh It.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Wasn't much of a decision. I mean, you know, we've
- 14:20Speaker 4: been talking for some time now. So we were just
- 14:23Speaker 4: trying to figure out the best timing. I was spending
- 14:25Speaker 4: a lot of time with the fam, so I wasn't
- 14:28Speaker 4: really in a rush to get back anyway. But, you know,
- 14:32Speaker 4: we were in talks for a while and just trying
- 14:34Speaker 4: to figure out the best timing. And, you know, I
- 14:37Speaker 4: felt like, you know, giving myself an extra week with
- 14:39Speaker 4: the bye week to get myself acclimated. Coming up and
- 14:42Speaker 4: seeing everybody, getting a playbook and having that extra week to,
- 14:46Speaker 4: you know, pretty much getting a playbook, I would say,
- 14:49Speaker 4: or watch a little film. But I just think that,
- 14:51Speaker 4: you know, it wasn't much of a decision. You know,
- 14:53Speaker 4: Buffalo is where I pretty much want to be all along.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Been here pretty much my whole career. This is home
- 14:59Speaker 4: for me. I already had my house here. So it
- 15:02Speaker 4: was just, it just, the decision was easy because the
- 15:05Speaker 4: transition wasn't as hard because I already had everything settled.
- 15:08Speaker 4: So anytime... You got a chance to come home. Like,
- 15:12Speaker 4: this is what it's all about. So the decision was
- 15:15Speaker 4: pretty easy. Wasn't much of a convincing because, you know,
- 15:19Speaker 4: the kids have everything set here too. So it was cool.
- 15:22Speaker 4: It was easy. And I'm excited about it. Got a
- 15:25Speaker 4: lot of young guys on the team, a lot of
- 15:26Speaker 4: young guys in the DB room. I'm excited to, you know,
- 15:30Speaker 4: help those guys out any way that I can. But, man,
- 15:33Speaker 4: so far it's been good seeing everybody, like, getting all
- 15:36Speaker 4: the hugs, seeing everybody around the building. So it's been dope.
- 15:39Speaker 1: So, Trey, you come back to a team you're very
- 15:41Speaker 1: familiar with, call this place home. There's a lot of
- 15:44Speaker 1: newness here this year. You've got a new head coach,
- 15:46Speaker 1: Joe Brady, a new defensive coordinator in Jim Leonard, and
- 15:50Speaker 1: a new stadium. To you, what has changed most?
- 15:54Speaker 4: I mean, the stadium, like, just seeing it on TV, like,
- 15:59Speaker 4: you know, I was like, man, like, I just want
- 16:01Speaker 4: to go visit, you know what I mean? Just walk around,
- 16:03Speaker 4: see it. Because, you know, seeing, like, the first part, like,
- 16:05Speaker 4: once they start breaking ground and seeing the hole and
- 16:08Speaker 4: seeing it just build up, like, it's pretty cool to, like,
- 16:10Speaker 4: just to see, like, coming back and seeing this completely done.
- 16:14Speaker 4: And they got a lot of stuff around it. I haven't.
- 16:18Speaker 4: I only saw it from the road. I haven't been
- 16:19Speaker 4: in it. We're taking this on Tuesday.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Trey's not been there yet.
- 16:22Speaker 4: I haven't been in the parking lot. I haven't saw
- 16:26Speaker 4: the standing buffalo. I didn't know they had a turf
- 16:28Speaker 4: field outside. Like, they have a lot. I heard they
- 16:30Speaker 4: got a lot of stuff for the kids to take
- 16:31Speaker 4: a lot of pictures to, so. Then I heard, like,
- 16:33Speaker 4: we got the fans, like, as they walk out, they
- 16:35Speaker 4: got the fans in the thing. So it's like a
- 16:38Speaker 4: real Hollywood Buffalo now.
- 16:39Speaker 1: It's like a one-stop shop for you. For players, it
- 16:42Speaker 1: is amazing.
- 16:43Speaker 4: I heard on game day, guys don't even have to
- 16:45Speaker 4: come over here to the building. They got to just
- 16:46Speaker 4: go over there. They got everything. They got a weight room.
- 16:48Speaker 4: They sit down. They don't even have to come outside
- 16:50Speaker 4: to warm up.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Huge cold tub, hot tub, warm tub.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Oh, man. Like, Mr. Paguda got the people spoiled up here, man. Like, look,
- 16:57Speaker 4: I came back at a great time.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Look.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I'm going to go relax. I'm going to act like
- 17:01Speaker 4: I'm on the beach. If I'm going to go in
- 17:03Speaker 4: there and get me a little pina colada or something,
- 17:05Speaker 4: just chill out. You know, get me a little sombrero
- 17:08Speaker 4: hat on, man. You know what I mean? I feel like, look,
- 17:11Speaker 4: I can't wait to get over there and see what
- 17:13Speaker 4: everybody got over there. I heard they got full-time staff.
- 17:16Speaker 4: They got their own cafeteria over there and everything. This
- 17:19Speaker 4: is different. But, I mean, different is good. I mean,
- 17:22Speaker 4: the boys are enjoying it. I feel like, you know,
- 17:24Speaker 4: they're playing with swag, too. So I'm excited, you know.
- 17:27Speaker 4: get on the practice field, help these guys out, man,
- 17:30Speaker 4: any way I can. Like I said, these young DBs
- 17:33Speaker 4: are playing well. IGB, he's playing well. CB, you already
- 17:37Speaker 4: know he's doing what he's got to do. It's good
- 17:39Speaker 4: to see Cole, too, like seeing Greg, Ed, TB, like Shaq. Like,
- 17:45Speaker 4: I'm excited. I'm excited to get back. I'm excited to practice.
- 17:48Speaker 4: I'm excited to move around with the guys, see where
- 17:51Speaker 4: I can help out. I just think, you know, it's
- 17:53Speaker 4: a long season, too, so I know that– Along the way,
- 17:57Speaker 4: you know, I'm going to be able to help these
- 17:59Speaker 4: guys out.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:00Speaker 4: You know, see what we can do and make this run.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Speaking of helping the guys out, what have your conversations
- 18:04Speaker 1: been like with the coaching staff about where you fit
- 18:07Speaker 1: in right now?
- 18:09Speaker 4: I mean, pretty much right now just, you know, trying
- 18:11Speaker 4: to get familiar with the guys around me, trying to
- 18:13Speaker 4: get familiar with, you know, with my teammates, get familiar
- 18:15Speaker 4: with the playbook. Now it's just, you know, trusting the process,
- 18:18Speaker 4: knowing that, like I said, before I was telling somebody this, like,
- 18:21Speaker 4: I got so much respect for the position just to know, like,
- 18:26Speaker 4: I'm not getting off the couch and just going out
- 18:27Speaker 4: there and being Trey White. Like, this is going to
- 18:29Speaker 4: be a process. I'm going to have to practice. I'm
- 18:31Speaker 4: going to have to, like, really just see it, feel it.
- 18:33Speaker 4: I'm going to have to fall, learn how to jump up, fall,
- 18:35Speaker 4: catch the ball, do all those things, which I'm excited
- 18:39Speaker 4: about because I just know, like, that's my favorite part
- 18:42Speaker 4: of it, just getting ready, the preparation to get into
- 18:45Speaker 4: where I want to be. And then seeing the success
- 18:49Speaker 4: on game day is, you know, just the icing on
- 18:51Speaker 4: the cake, but the process of just getting myself there
- 18:53Speaker 4: and just knowing, where I need to be, like, that's
- 18:55Speaker 4: what I'm most excited about, just going out there and
- 18:58Speaker 4: just competing with my teammates and just being there and
- 19:00Speaker 4: just helping out. Like, I'm excited to help these young
- 19:03Speaker 4: guys out because I feel like, you know what I mean,
- 19:04Speaker 4: just coming back and seeing CB, seeing how he's commanding
- 19:07Speaker 4: the room and seeing, like, they still have these traditions
- 19:10Speaker 4: that we've been doing that we've built over all these years,
- 19:13Speaker 4: and he's keeping it alive. So that's what it's all about. Oh, man,
- 19:16Speaker 4: that's one of the most exciting things, going into the
- 19:19Speaker 4: meeting room and just seeing. How's everything going around with
- 19:22Speaker 4: these guys? And I just got a little glimpse. So
- 19:24Speaker 4: I'm just excited to get to the work week and
- 19:26Speaker 4: see how these guys operate and see their routine and
- 19:29Speaker 4: see how I can help out. So I'm excited about it.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Speaking of all the new guys in the room, you
- 19:34Speaker 1: said you love how IGB is playing. It's a new group.
- 19:37Speaker 1: There's a lot of young players starting on this defense.
- 19:40Speaker 1: And I think back to your first season in Buffalo,
- 19:42Speaker 1: your first few seasons in Buffalo, when you started to
- 19:45Speaker 1: build your confidence. What worked for you in terms of
- 19:49Speaker 1: time on task and feeling very comfortable in the system
- 19:52Speaker 1: you were playing in.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Um I feel like anytime like you're in the back
- 19:56Speaker 4: end like the most important thing is just the reps
- 19:59Speaker 4: that you're getting like the walk-through reps the the pre-practice
- 20:02Speaker 4: reps the the communication the hand signals I feel like
- 20:06Speaker 4: Those are the things that, you know, as a defensive back,
- 20:08Speaker 4: like when you're on the same communication, everybody's on the
- 20:11Speaker 4: same page in the back end, that's what gives you
- 20:14Speaker 4: confidence to just worry about your opponent. Now you don't
- 20:16Speaker 4: have to worry about Dick Simon. You already trust your
- 20:18Speaker 4: teammates around you, trust the guys to know, like you
- 20:21Speaker 4: know where your help is. Like learning the defense and
- 20:23Speaker 4: then getting on to communication with the guys that you're
- 20:25Speaker 4: playing with, you know, like what this guy likes to do.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Like it's been so many times where it's just like
- 20:31Speaker 4: Micah and J-Po, like they know, like, okay. I know
- 20:35Speaker 4: Tredavis is locked in, so we're gonna have to help
- 20:37Speaker 4: him over the top. He's gonna be extra aggressive. So
- 20:39Speaker 4: just learning the guys around you, having that continuity, and
- 20:43Speaker 4: just going out there and trusting each other, I feel
- 20:45Speaker 4: like that's the most important part. I think playing DB
- 20:48Speaker 4: and just being on the same page with the safety
- 20:50Speaker 4: and the guy, the linebacker on your side or the
- 20:52Speaker 4: nickel that's on your side, and just knowing where your
- 20:55Speaker 4: help is, I feel like that's when you play your best.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Cuz you can kinda pick where you wanna make your
- 21:00Speaker 4: plays at, because you know where your help is gonna be.
- 21:02Speaker 4: You can take a chance. if you know that this
- 21:05Speaker 4: guy's going to be here and you know where everybody's
- 21:06Speaker 4: supposed to be. So I think that the preparation and
- 21:10Speaker 4: just knowing and studying your opponent, like that's the main
- 21:12Speaker 4: thing about being a DB is just knowing your opponent,
- 21:15Speaker 4: studying formations and just being confident and just being on
- 21:18Speaker 4: the same page with the guys around you. So, and
- 21:21Speaker 4: I just think if we get that down, like that's
- 21:25Speaker 4: half the battle. Like now you can just go and
- 21:27Speaker 4: worry about the offense.
- 21:28Speaker 1: As a vet coming into that room, I know Christian
- 21:31Speaker 1: has done a great job of leading and kind of
- 21:34Speaker 1: taking things on his own. But how can you help
- 21:37Speaker 1: with the communication part since you say communication is so
- 21:41Speaker 1: important to the back end of a defense?
- 21:43Speaker 4: I just think speaking up, like speaking up, you know,
- 21:46Speaker 4: because like you said, CB, he does a great job,
- 21:48Speaker 4: but he's like a naturally acquired guy. So just I
- 21:52Speaker 4: feel like speaking up and just like seeing the formation
- 21:55Speaker 4: and just kind of like being proactive and not reactive
- 21:59Speaker 4: just saying like if we have a check on okay
- 22:01Speaker 4: if we're just saying it while the play is going
- 22:04Speaker 4: on okay if they do this we're gonna do this
- 22:05Speaker 4: but if they don't do this we're gonna do this
- 22:07Speaker 4: so we just without even looking back at each other
- 22:09Speaker 4: and just having that communication so you can kind of
- 22:11Speaker 4: see what's going on and you can communicate without looking
- 22:14Speaker 4: at each other it's just talking hand signal so I
- 22:17Speaker 4: think that uh you know Just practicing that and just
- 22:21Speaker 4: continuing to do that and just getting comfortable with doing
- 22:24Speaker 4: that while the crowd noise is high because it's mostly
- 22:27Speaker 4: third downs. When the crowd is loud, that's what I'm saying.
- 22:32Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure practicing that and just getting more prepared
- 22:39Speaker 4: and just being more comfortable with the chaos in practice,
- 22:43Speaker 4: I feel like that is what's going to happen. It's
- 22:45Speaker 4: hard to simulate it. It's hard to simulate in the practice,
- 22:47Speaker 4: but I feel like the more reps you get and
- 22:49Speaker 4: it's more comfortable, you got to use the walkthrough as
- 22:52Speaker 4: a practice. Like, that's extra reps, and you got to
- 22:54Speaker 4: use that. So anytime we can use that. And then
- 22:56Speaker 4: I feel like hanging out outside the field, that's a
- 23:00Speaker 4: big piece, too. You know what I mean? That's big
- 23:02Speaker 4: with just the connectiveness and just being together and just
- 23:06Speaker 4: the cohesion that you're going to have on the field
- 23:07Speaker 4: because it's hard. Playing DB is hard. Like, you got
- 23:10Speaker 4: to study the field and look at what the office
- 23:12Speaker 4: is doing. Also, you got to be on the same
- 23:13Speaker 4: page with the guys around you because– If you're watching
- 23:16Speaker 4: a ton of film, you know what these guys are
- 23:19Speaker 4: going to do. But if your teammate is not on
- 23:21Speaker 4: the same page and haven't been watching, y'all haven't been
- 23:23Speaker 4: communicating this before the game or in the practice this
- 23:26Speaker 4: whole week, you can't go out there and do your
- 23:28Speaker 4: own thing. Even though you know what's coming, that may
- 23:30Speaker 4: be his play to make. But if you try to
- 23:32Speaker 4: go make his play, you can bust the whole cover.
- 23:33Speaker 4: So just being on the same page and everybody having
- 23:36Speaker 4: that same come and go, I feel like it's so
- 23:38Speaker 4: important for the back end.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Can't wait to see how that comes together. You said
- 23:42Speaker 1: it's going to take time for you to feel like
- 23:45Speaker 1: you're back in it, whether it's practicing, whether it's weightlifting,
- 23:49Speaker 1: whether it's learning the defense. How did you stay in shape, though,
- 23:53Speaker 1: during your time away? Because it's not like the Bills
- 23:55Speaker 1: sign you and you're like, I've just been eating cookies
- 23:58Speaker 1: all day. I know you love your chocolate chip cookies,
- 24:00Speaker 1: but you had to stay in shape, Trey.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Okay. So it was, I mean, I was pretty much
- 24:05Speaker 4: doing the same thing, you know, just my same workout routine.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Now I'm training my little boys now, so. I've been
- 24:11Speaker 4: doing that. So I feel like it was just simple,
- 24:15Speaker 4: same thing with me. I mean, I wake up pretty
- 24:17Speaker 4: much early in the morning, 5.30, try to get the
- 24:20Speaker 4: workout in. I'll be done by 7.30, 7.15, and get ready,
- 24:25Speaker 4: eat breakfast with the boys, take them to school. They
- 24:27Speaker 4: got to be at school at, like, 9. I had
- 24:29Speaker 4: already got my workout in. So me and Truth Mella, three-year-old,
- 24:33Speaker 4: we'll go fish. I'll take him. We'll go places, or
- 24:37Speaker 4: we'll just chill around the house, go around the neighborhood,
- 24:39Speaker 4: ride on the golf cart. just passing time by, you know,
- 24:42Speaker 4: just doing different things. We'll go shopping or we'll just
- 24:45Speaker 4: go places. We'll go around, walk around the neighborhood, walk around.
- 24:49Speaker 4: Cause I got like a lot of land. So we'll
- 24:50Speaker 4: walk around and walk around, you know, back of the land,
- 24:53Speaker 4: just go through the forest, just go adventure out. So
- 24:55Speaker 4: we was just doing different stuff. Um, but then, you know,
- 24:59Speaker 4: so like I was staying in shape, you know, I
- 25:01Speaker 4: ride my bike, do different stuff. I got a pool.
- 25:03Speaker 4: So swim in the pool, do my pool workout. So
- 25:05Speaker 4: I was just doing stuff that I know that works. And, uh,
- 25:08Speaker 4: you know, it was good to get the extra rest too.
- 25:10Speaker 4: And just, you know, have that family time. That was
- 25:13Speaker 4: the longest that I've been home. So I've been enjoying it.
- 25:16Speaker 4: I've been enjoying it each and every day, like waking up,
- 25:18Speaker 4: taking the boys to school, picking them up. It's kind
- 25:21Speaker 4: of funny because whenever their mom go pick them up,
- 25:24Speaker 4: they'll be mad. They'll be mad. It's like, we just
- 25:26Speaker 4: want dad. We want dad to pick us up. But
- 25:29Speaker 4: so it's been fun. So I've been staying in shape,
- 25:30Speaker 4: you know what I mean? Watching football, you know, ball
- 25:32Speaker 4: is ball. But it's been cool, like, just to be
- 25:35Speaker 4: around the family, you know, spend that extra time because,
- 25:38Speaker 4: you know, the boys, they've been loving that. So I've
- 25:40Speaker 4: been putting them through workouts, you know, working them out,
- 25:43Speaker 4: you know, getting them ready too. So they look cut
- 25:46Speaker 4: up now.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Athletic boys. So I've been getting them doing push-ups. You know,
- 25:51Speaker 4: we're doing wall sits. We're swimming in the pool.
- 25:53Speaker 1: How long are we wall sitting for?
- 25:55Speaker 4: Yeah, for a good amount of time. Yeah. I don't
- 25:58Speaker 4: even want to tell you, but we're getting them ready.
- 26:00Speaker 4: So the story is, though, these two guys came to
- 26:03Speaker 4: me and it's like, Dad, We want to be strong.
- 26:06Speaker 4: We want to be the strongest and fastest seven and
- 26:08Speaker 4: nine year olds. So I want you to help, you know, we,
- 26:11Speaker 4: we want to do it. So I'm like, okay, like
- 26:13Speaker 4: this is what it's going to do. This is going
- 26:15Speaker 4: to be our schedule. So we'll go a little two
- 26:17Speaker 4: days and then I give them a break. Then we'll
- 26:19Speaker 4: go like two days again. I give them a break.
- 26:21Speaker 4: So it's only like 30, you know, about 45 minutes
- 26:23Speaker 4: to an hour, but they're getting a lot of good
- 26:26Speaker 4: work in. So, but they're excited about it. So they
- 26:30Speaker 4: want to play DB. So I just been, you know,
- 26:33Speaker 4: I have a Ph.D. in defensive back. You do? We're
- 26:36Speaker 4: going to do it the right way. And the fundamentals,
- 26:39Speaker 4: they have it down. Like, they want to do it. Oh,
- 26:41Speaker 4: my gosh. The most proud thing about it is they remember. Like,
- 26:45Speaker 4: they're remembering all the things from the previous sessions. Wow. So,
- 26:49Speaker 4: if you ask them what's the most important thing about
- 26:51Speaker 4: defensive back, they'll tell you. Eyes, feet, hands. They'll be like,
- 26:54Speaker 4: what you got to be as a defensive back? I
- 26:56Speaker 4: got to be confident, you know. So, you know, I'm just.
- 26:58Speaker 4: teaching them little things little fundamental things and just the
- 27:01Speaker 4: groundwork of just playing the position but also just the
- 27:03Speaker 4: groundwork of moving their bodies moving around changing direction we're
- 27:07Speaker 4: doing sprint work we do heels we do heels too
- 27:10Speaker 4: so they're gonna have a they're gonna have a great
- 27:13Speaker 4: foundation as to like what it means to get there
- 27:17Speaker 4: how much hard work it takes and then also on
- 27:20Speaker 4: weekends like i i know i make sure like i
- 27:23Speaker 4: let them sleep in a little bit but i I
- 27:24Speaker 4: let them see me work out too. So I usually
- 27:27Speaker 4: try to work out at 5.30, but on the weekends
- 27:30Speaker 4: I wait like 9, 9.30. So when they're up, I
- 27:33Speaker 4: just make them come outside and just watch me.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Set the example.
- 27:36Speaker 4: Yeah, so I just let them watch how I do everything.
- 27:41Speaker 4: It's the worst mistake I make because it's extra hot
- 27:43Speaker 4: in Texas during that time. But I just want them
- 27:46Speaker 4: to see, okay, Dad's teaching us how to do it,
- 27:48Speaker 4: but we actually see him do it actually too. So
- 27:52Speaker 4: it's pretty cool. that they get to see me. I'll
- 27:54Speaker 4: be out there sweating, Maddie. So I'll be out there.
- 27:56Speaker 4: I have my drills out. So, but it's cool for
- 27:58Speaker 4: them to see it, but also for me to be
- 28:00Speaker 4: able to put them through it. So it's fun for
- 28:02Speaker 4: me to do, to see that little process and see.
- 28:04Speaker 4: how far they've come since we first started doing this
- 28:06Speaker 4: to seeing them now. So it's pretty cool to see.
- 28:08Speaker 1: That is so cute and so awesome that you get
- 28:11Speaker 1: to share that love that you have for this game
- 28:14Speaker 1: and your PhD and being a DB with your young sons.
- 28:18Speaker 1: How amazing. And we know Trey White is all about
- 28:21Speaker 1: sprinting up hills. You got your kids doing it too.
- 28:25Speaker 1: It's in the family. Yeah, it is.
- 28:26Speaker 4: I mean, you know, they saw the hard knocks thing.
- 28:29Speaker 4: They saw me on that running house. And, you know,
- 28:33Speaker 4: they've seen me do it a few times, but they
- 28:35Speaker 4: want to do it. So I'm not making them do it.
- 28:38Speaker 4: And I always say, like, I'm going to allow them
- 28:42Speaker 4: to figure out what they want to do, what they
- 28:44Speaker 4: like to do. But they come to me and they
- 28:46Speaker 4: say they want to do it. So we've been doing it.
- 28:49Speaker 4: They've been staying dedicated to it. So it's been fun.
- 28:53Speaker 4: But I feel like that's my first test of, like, okay,
- 28:56Speaker 4: when I'm done playing, do I want to coach? So
- 28:59Speaker 4: it's like I'm trying to see, like, how– it works
- 29:03Speaker 4: out with the kids. I feel like with little kids,
- 29:05Speaker 4: if I have the patience with the little kids, I
- 29:06Speaker 4: know like once I want to get to an older group,
- 29:09Speaker 4: you know what I mean? They'll be more mature and
- 29:10Speaker 4: they'll be willing to coach, but it's been fun. But
- 29:13Speaker 4: also it's been a little hair scratch because my little three-year-old,
- 29:16Speaker 4: it's been hard to keep him in line to keep him.
- 29:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 29:18Speaker 3: He just wants to.
- 29:19Speaker 4: Do what he wants to do.
- 29:20Speaker 1: He wants to be a big guy.
- 29:21Speaker 3: No, he wants to.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Do what his brothers do, but he gets to the
- 29:24Speaker 4: point where it's like, he don't want to wait his turn.
- 29:27Speaker 4: He interrupted the workout. So, That's the only thing. It's
- 29:30Speaker 4: been a little hard. It's been a little hard to
- 29:33Speaker 4: keep him in line, but it's been fun, and uh
- 29:35Speaker 4: the boys been enjoying it so we've been having a
- 29:37Speaker 4: lot of fun with it.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Man a family full of boys and you got a
- 29:41Speaker 1: young one too yes you welcomed a young one.
- 29:44Speaker 4: This summer yes he's six month old so he was
- 29:47Speaker 4: born march 31st spring i should say not summer yeah
- 29:50Speaker 4: so march 31st so all my kids birth little babies
- 29:53Speaker 4: you know four boys four boys all of them and
- 29:56Speaker 4: you know we've been enjoying the family's growing Hopefully, this
- 29:59Speaker 4: is it. We're done. Not having any more. But, oh,
- 30:03Speaker 4: it's been fun. Like, the boys been enjoying it. Like,
- 30:05Speaker 4: they've been enjoying being big brother, helping out. They be
- 30:08Speaker 4: trying to pick him up, carrying him around. But it's
- 30:10Speaker 4: been fun. Like, we've been enjoying it. Like, been enjoying it.
- 30:14Speaker 4: But the whole thing is the baby wakes up. One
- 30:17Speaker 4: in the morning, two, three in the morning. Like, that's
- 30:19Speaker 4: been an adjustment.
- 30:20Speaker 1: And since you weren't playing, are you up with the baby?
- 30:23Speaker 1: Are you helping out in the middle of the night?
- 30:24Speaker 4: Oh, no, I'm helping out.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Let's go, Trey.
- 30:27Speaker 4: I get up and do what I got to do.
- 30:28Speaker 4: You know, for the most part, I do it because
- 30:30Speaker 4: I don't have anything else to do. So I don't
- 30:32Speaker 4: have no reason to be like, yeah, I got to get.
- 30:34Speaker 4: So I'm up. Like, it's been fun. Like, it's a
- 30:36Speaker 4: lot of bonding time. And, you know, like, I'm used
- 30:39Speaker 4: to it. Like, I'm not. I'm not, like, it's not
- 30:42Speaker 4: foreign to me to wash, you know, to change the diapers,
- 30:45Speaker 4: to do everything.
- 30:46Speaker 1: You were fully in it.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Oh, no, I've been doing it for a while. So
- 30:48Speaker 4: it's just, like, it's nothing new. But just, like, the
- 30:51Speaker 4: break from, like, breaking off sleep, but now it's just
- 30:54Speaker 4: get back into the sleep thing. That's the adjustment period. Like,
- 30:58Speaker 4: that's the only thing. But once the baby's up, like,
- 31:00Speaker 4: he's smiling and laughing. That's all I want to do.
- 31:02Speaker 4: So it's been fun. But the whole thing, like, when
- 31:06Speaker 4: we want to go somewhere, The whole truck is full.
- 31:08Speaker 1: You got to pack everything up.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Look. We're going to have to get a Sprinter van.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Do you have a little school bus?
- 31:13Speaker 4: We're going to have to get a Sprinter van here soon.
- 31:16Speaker 4: I'm not even going to lie. So we took a
- 31:18Speaker 4: trip to your city. We took a trip to Chicago.
- 31:21Speaker 4: Love Chicago. We stayed there for like five days.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Nice. In the summer?
- 31:25Speaker 4: Yeah, it was June. Yeah.
- 31:28Speaker 1: The best time to be there.
- 31:29Speaker 4: It was like June. Like, great. Like, love Chicago. So
- 31:32Speaker 4: we went. We was there for five days. But we
- 31:34Speaker 4: had to. pay a driver and a sprint service like
- 31:37Speaker 4: to drive us around like because it was just too
- 31:39Speaker 4: many and then once we uh left we had to
- 31:43Speaker 4: uber we uber to the airport but we had to
- 31:46Speaker 4: take two big suvs so like it's getting to the
- 31:49Speaker 4: point now like where it's like man like i'm gonna
- 31:51Speaker 4: go ahead had to give me a 12 passenger van
- 31:53Speaker 4: and just go ahead and buy a sprinter myself and
- 31:56Speaker 4: just do it like that but to get around and
- 31:58Speaker 4: move around it's a whole process but as far as
- 32:00Speaker 4: once we get there it's all love and it's all
- 32:03Speaker 4: fun and we do we do it do great like
- 32:05Speaker 4: we walked around went to the beach we went to
- 32:08Speaker 4: the obama museum we ate great stayed at a nice
- 32:11Speaker 4: hotel the people was nice like everything was good like
- 32:13Speaker 4: the food a1 got some pizza there yes and we
- 32:18Speaker 4: got a famous hot dog we went to the bean
- 32:20Speaker 4: like it was great no we had a great time
- 32:23Speaker 4: like we went to the big museum with the train
- 32:25Speaker 4: in it yes i'm It took us like four or
- 32:28Speaker 4: five hours to get through the whole thing.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. Is that Field Museum or is that
- 32:31Speaker 1: a different one? There's a lot of museums there.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Well, we had a great time. Like Chicago, top of
- 32:36Speaker 4: the line.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Love that.
- 32:38Speaker 4: No, we had a great time there. Like walking around,
- 32:41Speaker 4: saw the world's largest Starbucks. It's like five. Yeah, the
- 32:45Speaker 4: three stories. No, it's like four, I think. It's all see-through.
- 32:48Speaker 4: So we had a great time. Like nothing bad to
- 32:51Speaker 4: say about Chicago, but besides like we want to be
- 32:54Speaker 4: a good team.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Traveling as a pack is hard.
- 32:56Speaker 4: Oh. But the trip from Buffalo to Chicago is not
- 33:00Speaker 4: that bad. It's just a straight flight. That's true. So
- 33:03Speaker 4: it was cool in that sense. But traveling, whew, like
- 33:07Speaker 4: with all the kids.
- 33:08Speaker 1: And now the whole fam is moving back here.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Traveling with everybody. Yeah, we had to mix this travel
- 33:14Speaker 4: day up. Everybody didn't come at the same time. Everybody
- 33:17Speaker 4: didn't come at the same time. I came with one kid.
- 33:20Speaker 4: She's going to come with the rest. So, yeah. But,
- 33:24Speaker 4: you know, we're used to it at this point. Like,
- 33:26Speaker 4: we've always, since I've been in the league, so I've
- 33:28Speaker 4: been a parent, so every step of the way, you know,
- 33:31Speaker 4: we'll skip a couple years and add another one, skip
- 33:34Speaker 4: another three, and then add another one. So it's just
- 33:37Speaker 4: been a process. But hopefully this is it. We got four,
- 33:40Speaker 4: so she can take two, I can take two. We
- 33:42Speaker 4: can kind of mix it up. We're not at that.
- 33:44Speaker 1: You're playing zone defense as parents.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Yeah, we're definitely playing zone defense. But once you get
- 33:48Speaker 4: more than two, like, that's when you, When it gets like, okay,
- 33:51Speaker 4: we got to kind of slow it down a little bit.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Steve Tasker has more than four, and he says once
- 33:57Speaker 1: you hit more than three, it doesn't matter how many
- 34:00Speaker 1: you have. You can do it.
- 34:02Speaker 4: It does matter. Like when you think about those cottage
- 34:05Speaker 4: funds and things like that, those things you do to
- 34:07Speaker 4: benefit for the kids, it always does matter.
- 34:08Speaker 1: They're all going to get scholarships.
- 34:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, hopefully.
- 34:10Speaker 1: They're going to get DB scholarships. You're teaching them.
- 34:14Speaker 4: NIL is kind of crazy right now.
- 34:15Speaker 1: So, look. The Chief.
- 34:18Speaker 4: Yes, everybody out there, I'm living through my kids. One
- 34:21Speaker 4: of these guys is going to take care of the family. So, yes, like,
- 34:24Speaker 4: we're going to do it.
- 34:25Speaker 1: That's why you have four options.
- 34:27Speaker 4: Yes.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Somebody's going to make it.
- 34:28Speaker 4: Look, at least two out of four. If we get
- 34:30Speaker 4: two out of four, I think we're good. Yes, I
- 34:33Speaker 4: think that's a good percentage.
- 34:34Speaker 1: I like your odds.
- 34:35Speaker 4: Look, regardless of whatever, if we can just get one.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Just one.
- 34:39Speaker 4: Like, the NIL is crazy now. Imagine NIL 10 years
- 34:42Speaker 4: from now, like.
- 34:44Speaker 1: It's going to be nuts.
- 34:45Speaker 4: I think we're working in the right direction.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:48Speaker 4: I think we're good. So that's the good thing about
- 34:51Speaker 4: having four boys. We can train them up and just hope,
- 34:54Speaker 4: you know, that we can hit that jackpot on one
- 34:56Speaker 4: of these NIL deals a few years from now.
- 34:59Speaker 1: SEC football bound.
- 35:00Speaker 4: Look, at this point, NIL, look, we can be Big 12.
- 35:02Speaker 4: I was going to say, it doesn't matter. Sunbelt, Pac-12,
- 35:05Speaker 4: it don't matter. No, ACC.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Somebody's got to go to LSU, though. They got to
- 35:10Speaker 1: follow in your footsteps. Just one.
- 35:12Speaker 4: I mean, look, we're going wherever they're paying that at
- 35:15Speaker 4: this point. Look, all these things.
- 35:17Speaker 1: We don't discriminate.
- 35:18Speaker 4: Yes, this is all one-year deals at this point. But
- 35:22Speaker 4: for sure, LSU, look, we sit there and we watch it.
- 35:25Speaker 4: Like when we played Kentucky, I was sitting there with
- 35:28Speaker 4: my helmet on, man. I put my helmet on, strapped
- 35:31Speaker 4: it on. I'm watching the game. My helmet's still on
- 35:33Speaker 4: the ground. It's still messed up.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 35:37Speaker 4: When they ran the ball up the middle and we
- 35:38Speaker 4: lost in overtime, I took my shirt. Unstrap my head, man.
- 35:41Speaker 4: I threw it down. I feel like it got paint missing. Oh,
- 35:43Speaker 4: I'm mad.
- 35:44Speaker 1: You probably had something to say about that once you
- 35:45Speaker 1: got back here. It's Ray Davis, Mr. Kentucky himself.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Man, him, Max, and Deion. And Deion. Yeah, we got
- 35:52Speaker 4: the Kentucky.
- 35:53Speaker 1: The Kentucky Bills.
- 35:54Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Like, it's different. Like, the landscape
- 35:57Speaker 4: of college football is like, no, it's not. It's not. Like,
- 36:01Speaker 4: nobody's bigger than nobody else. Anybody can be beat. I
- 36:05Speaker 4: feel like that's fun. It makes it more exciting for
- 36:07Speaker 4: the fans for sure.
- 36:08Speaker 1: That's true. Speaking of watching football, you said you've been
- 36:11Speaker 1: watching the Bills. Six games in, they're 5-1. They got
- 36:15Speaker 1: the best offense in the NFL. No shock to anybody,
- 36:18Speaker 1: especially you.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Not at all.
- 36:20Speaker 1: And the defensive line has been getting after the quarterback.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Greg Rousseau has had a heck of a start to
- 36:24Speaker 1: the season. What are your impressions of this team, Trey?
- 36:28Speaker 4: If you're 5-1, like, look, that's great. You know, you
- 36:32Speaker 4: always want to look at the season in quarters. You know,
- 36:35Speaker 4: set it up four games and four games and We're
- 36:38Speaker 4: at six, five and one, like, one of the best
- 36:40Speaker 4: teams in the league. Like, what else you can ask for?
- 36:43Speaker 4: And still not playing our best ball at the most
- 36:45Speaker 4: important time.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Peaking at the right time.
- 36:47Speaker 4: We're peaking at the right time. And I feel like,
- 36:48Speaker 4: you know, the defense is coming along, you know. offense
- 36:51Speaker 4: you know most of these guys have been there you
- 36:53Speaker 4: know so it's like you know you expect you know
- 36:56Speaker 4: these guys to then you have the best quarterback in
- 36:58Speaker 4: the world like this that makes it so much more
- 37:01Speaker 4: easier and then you got these playmakers then you got
- 37:03Speaker 4: the best bat in in james so um then you
- 37:06Speaker 4: have dj like you got a real weapon then keon
- 37:09Speaker 4: is playing like a monster right now and then you
- 37:11Speaker 4: know kincaid gonna do what he do In the O-line,
- 37:14Speaker 4: you know, those guys are blocking their tail off.
- 37:16Speaker 1: They're like glue.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's just like you have this connectedness on
- 37:20Speaker 4: these guys. They've been playing together for so long. So then,
- 37:23Speaker 4: you know, DJ. DJ is just like a plug.
- 37:25Speaker 1: I feel like you and DJ Moore are going to
- 37:27Speaker 1: be like best buds based on your personalities.
- 37:30Speaker 4: DJ is a great player. I played against him for
- 37:33Speaker 4: so long. So he got drafted, and I feel like
- 37:36Speaker 4: the year after me.
- 37:37Speaker 1: He was drafted in Josh's class.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, so 2018. So we played against Carolina for
- 37:41Speaker 4: a bit, and then I played against him when he
- 37:42Speaker 4: was with Chicago and then last year we practiced against
- 37:45Speaker 4: them for like that long So we've been familiar with
- 37:48Speaker 4: each other for so long because we played against each
- 37:50Speaker 4: other in the league for like this the past eight
- 37:52Speaker 4: years I feel like each year out of the eight years.
- 37:55Speaker 4: I mean out of the nine years He's been in
- 37:57Speaker 4: the league. I probably played him five or six times. Yeah,
- 37:59Speaker 4: so that's that's good enough.
- 38:01Speaker 1: And he's got a couple kids and He likes to
- 38:03Speaker 1: go to Disney. You like to go to Disney. I'm
- 38:05Speaker 1: just putting it all together.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Then we have a lot of guys that we know
- 38:08Speaker 4: that's mutual. The guy that my teammate, Dante Jackson, they
- 38:13Speaker 4: played together in Carolina for so long. They were really cool.
- 38:17Speaker 4: We got a connection there. I just saw him in
- 38:20Speaker 4: the field house earlier with his three-year-old. I have my three-year-old, Truth.
- 38:24Speaker 4: He was practicing ball with his son. I was like,
- 38:27Speaker 4: I have a little three-year-old that I want to ball to.
- 38:29Speaker 4: That could be a connection so we can go ahead
- 38:30Speaker 4: and get there. Hopefully... His son is not a.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Receiver.
- 38:35Speaker 4: Because, look, you know, we practice in our DB. We
- 38:37Speaker 4: can get that competition started early. Yeah, you can get
- 38:40Speaker 4: it started real early at 30 years old. We can
- 38:43Speaker 4: schedule these meetups on these Tuesdays and we get these
- 38:46Speaker 4: boys together. Look, iron sharp in the iron early, you know.
- 38:50Speaker 4: A little friendly fire. Good on good.
- 38:53Speaker 5: What?
- 38:53Speaker 4: DJ Boy got a son? One of the best receivers
- 38:55Speaker 4: in the league?
- 38:56Speaker 3: And he training them up.
- 38:57Speaker 1: And you?
- 38:58Speaker 4: And I have me. And I got a DB? One
- 39:00Speaker 4: of the best DBs? Yes, we can start that competition
- 39:04Speaker 4: right now. Wow. They can get ready right now.
- 39:06Speaker 1: All pro, just sign this and write it in.
- 39:09Speaker 4: Look, we're seeing it right now. Look, we can start
- 39:10Speaker 4: it right now. Right now, I'm pretty sure, like, we
- 39:13Speaker 4: get out there, they get to compete. Me and Dad
- 39:15Speaker 4: probably want to line it up on a Tuesday, on
- 39:16Speaker 4: an off day.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Then you guys are going at it.
- 39:19Speaker 4: That's we going at it. But, no, it's cool, though. Yeah, no,
- 39:22Speaker 4: DJ and all those guys, I mean, it's going to
- 39:25Speaker 4: be fun to see. And then, like you said, getting
- 39:27Speaker 4: back to the question about the defense, like, I feel like.
- 39:31Speaker 4: the team is in a great spot we we got
- 39:33Speaker 4: we're getting the rest at the right time get letting
- 39:36Speaker 4: dj rest up with his with his shoulder too so
- 39:38Speaker 4: um boys gonna be ready to roll we understand the
- 39:40Speaker 4: spot that we're in we understand like we on we
- 39:43Speaker 4: on the road to going this going this run It's
- 39:46Speaker 4: getting November, getting some important games. We got some tough
- 39:49Speaker 4: games coming up. Get some mobile quarterbacks. So it's going
- 39:54Speaker 4: to be a good test for us. I feel like,
- 39:55Speaker 4: you know, the team is ready for it. I'm interested
- 39:57Speaker 4: to see how these guys practice, have us to see,
- 39:59Speaker 4: you know, how they get to the point of how
- 40:01Speaker 4: they having this success. I'm pretty sure it's ran the
- 40:04Speaker 4: right way. So, you know, when you got a great
- 40:06Speaker 4: group of guys, man, it's always easy. Then when you
- 40:09Speaker 4: have a great quarterback like that, you know what I mean?
- 40:12Speaker 4: You know the offense is going to score. We got
- 40:13Speaker 4: to get a couple stops, a couple takeaways here, and, look,
- 40:16Speaker 4: we're going to win most of the game.
- 40:17Speaker 1: 100%. Trey, we could yap for hours.
- 40:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:22Speaker 1: We've already been at this for 30 minutes. Just check
- 40:24Speaker 1: my phone because I got to keep a time watch
- 40:28Speaker 1: going when we're recording because we talk for so long.
- 40:31Speaker 4: This is just what we do. It's easy when we
- 40:34Speaker 4: just flow together. It's what we specialize in. Yes, come
- 40:36Speaker 4: on now.
- 40:36Speaker 1: I love it. I love that you're back. So finishing
- 40:39Speaker 1: with this question, Halloween right around the corner. What are
- 40:42Speaker 1: the kids being? Do we have costumes yet? Is it
- 40:45Speaker 1: a little bit like in the mix because we're all
- 40:47Speaker 1: so moving?
- 40:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:49Speaker 4: Okay. So I think today I'm going to go try
- 40:52Speaker 4: to rush and find something because Halloween party tonight.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Party's tonight.
- 40:57Speaker 4: So I got to grab something. But I think nobody's
- 41:00Speaker 4: going to be here but me and Truth. So we're
- 41:01Speaker 4: going to be the only two guys that's going to
- 41:03Speaker 4: be at the party.
- 41:04Speaker 1: So you guys can do a little couple's costume.
- 41:05Speaker 4: We'll see. We'll see what we can do. I don't know.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Father-son duo.
- 41:09Speaker 4: I don't know if I'm going to dress up, though.
- 41:10Speaker 4: You think I need to get in the spirit? I
- 41:12Speaker 4: don't know.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Well, if your son wants you.
- 41:15Speaker 4: To, I think you should. See, that's the thing. But
- 41:17Speaker 4: he's the guy. He's bossy, so he's the one.
- 41:19Speaker 1: If he's like, Dad, you need to wear this.
- 41:21Speaker 4: Yeah, like we were on the plane. He was like,
- 41:24Speaker 4: he put his headphones on. He found him a little movie.
- 41:26Speaker 4: He found out how to work the TV, so he
- 41:28Speaker 4: picked it, watched the movie. He's like. dad don't look
- 41:30Speaker 4: at my tv look at your tv so this is
- 41:33Speaker 4: the this is who we're dealing with so we never
- 41:35Speaker 4: know so i'm gonna go into this shopping thing with
- 41:37Speaker 4: an open mind or i think i should go shopping
- 41:39Speaker 4: before i pick him up from school i.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Was gonna say are you gonna involve him in the process.
- 41:43Speaker 4: I think if i involve him in that process i'm
- 41:46Speaker 4: gonna end up dressing up but if i go before
- 41:48Speaker 4: i pick him up i think i'm i'm gonna get
- 41:50Speaker 4: off i'm gonna skate away pretty clear so i think
- 41:52Speaker 4: that's gonna be the plan because i don't plan on
- 41:54Speaker 4: dressing up but i'm pretty sure we'll see I may
- 41:57Speaker 4: have to be at home cutting and pasting something together
- 42:00Speaker 4: on my own.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Hey, you have a whole team of helpers in this building.
- 42:04Speaker 4: I know.
- 42:05Speaker 1: If you signal the alarm, you just text me and Meg.
- 42:08Speaker 1: We'll figure it out for you.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Look, I've been through your spot. I've been through your desk.
- 42:12Speaker 4: I see you got it set up already. You're in
- 42:14Speaker 4: the process of doing it. I know you're not done.
- 42:17Speaker 4: We're in the process of decorating. Every Halloween, you guys
- 42:21Speaker 4: do a great around the building. I'm anticipating a lot
- 42:23Speaker 4: of good stuff today. When we come through, I'm anticipating
- 42:28Speaker 4: a lot of good decorations. You guys always have the
- 42:30Speaker 4: best candy. No yellow Starbursts. No yellow ones. No yellow Starbursts,
- 42:37Speaker 4: yellow Skittles, nothing yellow.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Nothing yellow. Even though he wears yellow for LSU.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Yeah, but I'm saying like the candy why I like.
- 42:44Speaker 1: You don't like lemon.
- 42:45Speaker 5: No.
- 42:46Speaker 4: I like lemonade, but not just the lemons. Not lemon flavored. No,
- 42:50Speaker 4: not lemon flavored. Anything like that. No yellow Skittles, no
- 42:52Speaker 4: yellow Starbursts. Do you eat the yellow Starbursts?
- 42:56Speaker 1: I don't mind them. i like the pink and the red.
- 42:59Speaker 4: Exactly the best ones so when those are the first
- 43:02Speaker 4: choice so the last the.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Orange is my least favorite i mean i could.
- 43:06Speaker 4: Deal with a little because i like oranges so like
- 43:08Speaker 4: anything but the yellow just give them give the yellow
- 43:12Speaker 4: nobody eat the yellow starburst like you eat the yellow
- 43:15Speaker 4: starburst exactly nobody eat the yellow starburst like but yeah
- 43:21Speaker 4: I'm anticipating it. We're going to have some fun. Hopefully,
- 43:24Speaker 4: we can get a lot of candy. We're going to
- 43:28Speaker 4: get a couple extra bags for the brothers. We're going
- 43:31Speaker 4: to have a good time. Hopefully, we can get to
- 43:34Speaker 4: trick-or-treat this year. Last year, the wind was blowing extremely hard.
- 43:39Speaker 1: You guys left and then came back quickly, right?
- 43:42Speaker 4: Yeah, so we were here until.
- 43:44Speaker 1: June, July. No, last year for Halloween, the kids went out.
- 43:49Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. And then they want to go home really quickly. Yeah,
- 43:51Speaker 4: we had to go back really fast. The wind was
- 43:53Speaker 4: blowing so, so hard last year. So hopefully this year
- 43:58Speaker 4: we can get out and do trick or treat because
- 43:59Speaker 4: in my neighborhood.
- 44:00Speaker 1: It's supposed to look, it's supposed to be nice.
- 44:01Speaker 4: In my neighborhood.
- 44:02Speaker 3: The 60s.
- 44:03Speaker 4: My neighbors do a great job of with the Halloween decor. Like,
- 44:09Speaker 4: they do a good job of scaring the kids. They got,
- 44:11Speaker 4: they do a great job of decorating a lot of lights.
- 44:13Speaker 4: So I'm anticipating that again this year. And the candy
- 44:16Speaker 4: was good. I'm a big, I'm a big judgmental guy
- 44:19Speaker 4: on the candy, on the Halloween candy. Like if you
- 44:22Speaker 4: just got Tissy Rose and your lollipops, like we're going
- 44:25Speaker 4: to have to mix it up a little bit. We
- 44:28Speaker 4: need some nerds, like some king size Snickers.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Some nerd clusters.
- 44:32Speaker 4: Yeah, like the M & M' s, the yellow pack with
- 44:35Speaker 4: the peanuts in them. So like I'm a big judgment
- 44:39Speaker 4: on the candy. If you're just doing it, come on,
- 44:41Speaker 4: let's do it right for the kids.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Let's do it right.
- 44:42Speaker 4: For the kids.
- 44:43Speaker 1: You're not giving out like.
- 44:44Speaker 4: They got a lot of good distances around here.
- 44:46Speaker 1: We're not giving out pencils or like toothbrushes.
- 44:49Speaker 4: I mean, no. Like when I was a kid, when
- 44:51Speaker 4: people gave stuff like that out, I was like, okay,
- 44:53Speaker 4: they definitely brought that from their job. Okay, like, no.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Like we trying to go.
- 44:56Speaker 1: You're a smart kid.
- 44:57Speaker 4: Yeah, like you got that from your job. Like, come on,
- 44:59Speaker 4: put a little more effort in for the kids. You know,
- 45:02Speaker 4: we putting the effort in to come to your house
- 45:03Speaker 4: with these nice costumes. Give us some nice candy.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:06Speaker 4: But my neighbors do a great job because... The little
- 45:11Speaker 4: time that we did go last year, we got a
- 45:13Speaker 4: good amount of candy, and it was the good stuff.
- 45:16Speaker 4: It was the good stuff.
- 45:17Speaker 1: All right. Well, Trey, thanks so much for hopping on
- 45:21Speaker 1: the podcast. We missed you so much. We are so
- 45:24Speaker 1: happy you're back, and we'll have to figure this out.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:27Speaker 1: How you can be a return guest.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Come on. Look, I'm going to just let everybody know.
- 45:31Speaker 4: I'm going to just let everybody know this. So when
- 45:34Speaker 4: I got in the building, Ray Davis was one of
- 45:37Speaker 4: the first people I saw. And he wasn't happy. He
- 45:41Speaker 4: was like, man. He was like, he didn't say, man,
- 45:44Speaker 4: it's good to see you train. Like, man, I'm happy
- 45:47Speaker 4: you're back. He was like, man, like, yeah, I just know, like,
- 45:52Speaker 4: Maddie finna kick me off the show now. Like, you back? Like,
- 45:56Speaker 4: I know my job is over with. So that's the
- 45:58Speaker 4: first thing Ray said when he saw me. But I
- 46:01Speaker 4: didn't even know he was doing the show.
- 46:02Speaker 1: He was doing the show. He came up to me
- 46:05Speaker 1: in this off season. He said... So can I do it?
- 46:07Speaker 1: Do you have anybody yet? And I was like, well,
- 46:10Speaker 1: Trey's not here right now. So I guess right now
- 46:12Speaker 1: I don't have anybody. But Ray's done a great job.
- 46:16Speaker 1: He's been fun. He's brought the special teams aspect to
- 46:20Speaker 1: the show. So it's been great. And he's got a
- 46:24Speaker 1: couple awards that he gives every week. He does Ray
- 46:26Speaker 1: Day's big plays where he shouts out a couple big
- 46:29Speaker 1: plays from the game that he enjoyed. And then he
- 46:32Speaker 1: has a cape of the day. And so he gives
- 46:36Speaker 1: his Super Ray award.
- 46:38Speaker 4: Oh, that's pretty dope, though.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:40Speaker 4: I was just about to ask, do we give up
- 46:42Speaker 4: the dog of the week?
- 46:43Speaker 1: No, we couldn't do it. That's your thing, right?
- 46:45Speaker 4: Oh, I thought it was just a thing of the day.
- 46:47Speaker 1: No. You are dog of the week.
- 46:49Speaker 4: So maybe we bring that back. We'll see. We're going
- 46:51Speaker 4: to workshop some things. You know what? I got to
- 46:53Speaker 4: do some negotiating with Ray. You know I got to
- 46:54Speaker 4: get back on the show, right? I brought the swag.
- 46:57Speaker 4: Last season was the first year, right?
- 46:59Speaker 1: Last season was the first year. You and me. That's
- 47:00Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I was doing a solo dolo before you.
- 47:03Speaker 4: Come on, now. We can do a little. Steve and I,
- 47:06Speaker 4: let's get it back, you know? You know, we can
- 47:08Speaker 4: get back in the studio. But, nah, though. I got
- 47:11Speaker 4: to go back and watch a couple of your episodes. Yeah,
- 47:13Speaker 4: you got to watch an episode. Let me know what
- 47:15Speaker 4: you think. Give us some notes. I know the Ray
- 47:16Speaker 4: Days Award. That's pretty cool. I know. He's been a
- 47:19Speaker 4: little biased with the special teams, huh?
- 47:21Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah, you know.
- 47:22Speaker 4: I couldn't figure that.
- 47:23Speaker 1: But he had to be patient for the first, like,
- 47:26Speaker 1: few weeks of the season because nobody was kicking the
- 47:28Speaker 1: ball his way.
- 47:29Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 47:29Speaker 4: Okay.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Because they had him and Greg George back there.
- 47:31Speaker 4: Yeah, they scared of him.
- 47:32Speaker 1: They were like, we're not kicking in the All-Pro.
- 47:34Speaker 4: Oh, no, man.
- 47:34Speaker 1: But Greg George is doing a great job, too.
- 47:36Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Like, he was in Arizona, right? Mm-hmm. Yeah,
- 47:39Speaker 4: I remember him.
- 47:40Speaker 1: So now it's like, pick your poison.
- 47:42Speaker 4: Yeah, no, those guys are doing a great job, man.
- 47:45Speaker 4: Ray is a beast on that kick return, man.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Back-to-back games where he's had an opening kickoff return go
- 47:51Speaker 1: at least 40 yards.
- 47:53Speaker 4: Ray fast, too.
- 47:54Speaker 1: I think that's the first time since 2010 it's been done.
- 47:57Speaker 1: He's fast, too, yeah.
- 47:58Speaker 4: Man, he was an all-pro on that last year.
- 48:00Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 48:01Speaker 4: Yeah, see, that's what I'm saying. Like, you know, Dan,
- 48:03Speaker 4: Dorch has always been good at that.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Yep.
- 48:05Speaker 4: He's been in the league for a minute, right?
- 48:06Speaker 1: Yeah, he has.
- 48:07Speaker 4: Since what, 2018? 2019, I'm thinking.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Oh, gosh, 2019 sounds right.
- 48:12Speaker 4: He got drafted to Arizona?
- 48:13Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. I think so.
- 48:14Speaker 4: Yeah, no, he's been in Arizona the whole time. No,
- 48:16Speaker 4: he's been nice. Like, yeah, you know, when you plan
- 48:19Speaker 4: for a minute, like, certain names, like, you just don't forget.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:23Speaker 4: No, for sure.
- 48:24Speaker 1: You know.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I do. That's what I'm saying.
- 48:26Speaker 1: All right, Trey. All right.
- 48:27Speaker 4: Let's wrap this up.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Let's wrap this up. All right, we're back here on
- 48:30Speaker 1: Inside the Charge. Ray, the NFL had their first ever
- 48:34Speaker 1: Paris game between the Steelers and the Saints. The NFL
- 48:39Speaker 1: also announced that next year or the season after, they
- 48:44Speaker 1: are targeting a Tokyo game. What is a dream destination
- 48:48Speaker 1: for you?
- 48:49Speaker 3: I've only been out of the country to Canada.
- 48:51Speaker 1: I guess to play in. Dream destination to play in.
- 48:53Speaker 3: Yeah, play in. But, you know.
- 48:56Speaker 2: why i say i don't even in canada and i
- 48:58Speaker 2: know it's playing there was aaron rogers said something in
- 49:01Speaker 2: his interview that i kind of liked and he brought
- 49:04Speaker 2: up that that format where players should go out there
- 49:06Speaker 2: for a week because you get.
- 49:07Speaker 1: To experience the culture yeah sure nfl international games yeah.
- 49:12Speaker 2: Where you should you get to experience a culture change
- 49:14Speaker 2: you get to experience different things and then also just
- 49:18Speaker 2: being in a new country is great within itself.
- 49:21Speaker 3: But in a short answer, I'd go to.
- 49:25Speaker 5: Paris, man. I'd love Paris. That would have been cool
- 49:29Speaker 5: to be out there.
- 49:29Speaker 1: I think you would do well in Paris.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Paris is beautiful. And just looking at
- 49:35Speaker 2: that game, they had a good amount of fans there.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Or Ireland. Ireland would be really fun.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Actually I watched, I think a couple of years, it
- 49:41Speaker 2: was like Northwestern versus somebody and they played in Ireland
- 49:45Speaker 2: and you just saw like out the country, like fan
- 49:48Speaker 2: bases are crazy.
- 49:49Speaker 5: They really love their country. They really love their sports.
- 49:52Speaker 5: So to see that they're embracing football.
- 49:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:55Speaker 3: Ireland or Paris.
- 49:56Speaker 4: One of the two.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Okay. We'll see.
- 49:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:58Speaker 1: NFL, you know, we'll see what's next for the international game.
- 50:02Speaker 3: I got my passport.
- 50:04Speaker 1: He's ready to go. When'd you get your passport?
- 50:07Speaker 3: Like, two February's ago.
- 50:09Speaker 4: Okay.
- 50:11Speaker 5: So I'm ready to go.
- 50:12Speaker 2: I only got one stamp on there and I made
- 50:14Speaker 2: the guy at the border in Canada give me a stamp.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Oh, that's awesome. Yeah, you got to get stamped for sure.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Are you going to do like maybe a trip out
- 50:22Speaker 1: of the country this off season?
- 50:24Speaker 3: Yeah, if anybody wants to sponsor my trip, let me know, please.
- 50:28Speaker 1: Ray's saving his money.
- 50:29Speaker 3: I'm saving money. You can be my tour guide, anything
- 50:32Speaker 3: you want.
- 50:33Speaker 4: Not on me.
- 50:34Speaker 1: We're going to answer some fan questions now. This is
- 50:38Speaker 1: an interesting one. Kate Jessup wants to know, what's your
- 50:41Speaker 1: favorite smell or what is one that's nostalgic to you?
- 50:46Speaker 3: Smelling salt. Smelling salt that we use during the game.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Every game?
- 50:50Speaker 3: Every game.
- 50:51Speaker 5: That smell gets you going, gets you up, puts some
- 50:54Speaker 5: hair on the chest.
- 50:55Speaker 3: So yeah, smelling salt.
- 50:56Speaker 1: When do you hit the smelling salt?
- 50:58Speaker 3: Every chance I get.
- 50:59Speaker 2: I'm like James, too. Right before a play, I'm Right
- 51:03Speaker 2: before kickoff, I'm smelling salt. It's just a smell that's
- 51:06Speaker 2: just embedded in your nose.
- 51:10Speaker 1: The amount of times that you do it, do you
- 51:12Speaker 1: feel like it lessens the impact?
- 51:15Speaker 5: No.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Or it's the same always?
- 51:16Speaker 5: The same always.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Stuff burns once you get.
- 51:19Speaker 1: It too close to your nose.
- 51:20Speaker 3: You've never done it?
- 51:21Speaker 1: Maybe we'll have to do it on the podcast. No,
- 51:22Speaker 1: don't worry.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Right after this, I'm going to go.
- 51:25Speaker 5: Get one for you.
- 51:25Speaker 1: No, we're going to have to do it on camera
- 51:27Speaker 1: in an episode if I'm going to do it.
- 51:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:29Speaker 1: The thought of it scares me.
- 51:33Speaker 3: He's just got to close your eyes. That's it.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Okay. Maybe I'll have to go in an NFL game after, too. Okay,
- 51:41Speaker 1: Brandon Anderson wants to know, what coach in your football
- 51:44Speaker 1: journey had the biggest impact on you personally?
- 51:47Speaker 3: There would be two coaches.
- 51:50Speaker 2: My first running back coach ever when I hopped into
- 51:52Speaker 2: college football would be Gabe Infante.
- 51:55Speaker 5: He was a high school coach at St.
- 51:56Speaker 3: Joe's in Philly.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Um and like a very very good good coach he
- 52:02Speaker 2: had marvin harrison jr he had d swift like that
- 52:05Speaker 2: school produced some products and he never had been a
- 52:08Speaker 2: running back coach he's a defensive guy and our first
- 52:12Speaker 2: year together you know i was a freshman all-american um
- 52:15Speaker 2: record books but we just we went through that year
- 52:17Speaker 2: together like we learned the ups and the downs we
- 52:20Speaker 2: we grew as two individuals he taught me what it
- 52:24Speaker 2: was like to be a man and And, you know,
- 52:27Speaker 2: he had daughters. He didn't have a son. So I
- 52:29Speaker 2: think also just kind of having that son impact, too,
- 52:32Speaker 2: that we had. So he played a big, big, big,
- 52:35Speaker 2: big role in my football career. And then my other
- 52:38Speaker 2: coach would be Norvell McKenzie, which is my other running
- 52:40Speaker 2: back coach at Vanderbilt. And I got close with him,
- 52:44Speaker 2: like his family. I babysat his boys. Like I'm very,
- 52:47Speaker 2: very close to him still to this day. So those
- 52:49Speaker 2: two played big, big roles in my life.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Very cool. Final one. M. Stuart Callahan says, how about
- 52:55Speaker 1: them Wildcats?
- 52:57Speaker 3: How about them cats?
- 52:58Speaker 1: How about them cats?
- 52:59Speaker 3: I'm trying to tell everybody, man.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I might have to watch a full game. I haven't
- 53:02Speaker 1: watched a full Kentucky game this year.
- 53:03Speaker 3: If you want to join the bandwagon, come on.
- 53:06Speaker 1: No, I'm not joining the bandwagon. I went to a
- 53:09Speaker 1: zoo and I worked in Tennessee.
- 53:10Speaker 3: Behind the camera, you want to join the bandwagon too?
- 53:12Speaker 3: Come on. Everybody join the bandwagon. Go cats. Cats on three. One, two, three.
- 53:17Speaker 4: Cats.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Go Vols.
- 53:18Speaker 4: Okay.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Good to have you back on the pod. You enjoy
- 53:22Speaker 1: the rest of your week. We're back in it. Week
- 53:24Speaker 1: 8 action. Home game. It'll be fun.
- 53:27Speaker 4: Okay. Thanks, Ray. Okay.
