- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: Keep selling it.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right?
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: I get one or two.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Whitney Sybel, and I have no hope for it's, you've got world's greatest
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: You're the world's greatest act.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's way better than mine.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: I contribute to slash film.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: I have no awards, but I'm quite prolific.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: For the purposes of this particular email, you may, if you wish, call me Rock Maestro McCool.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: You needn't.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: But you should take the opportunity, won't you?
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: If Mick Jagger says, hey, go me MJ.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: You're calling him MJ.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: Be weird if you didn't call him Mickey Dolans.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Why did they call you that Mr. Jagger?
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Mickey Dolans, actually.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, am I in the right batch stage green room?
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: You know what, if I, if they said you get to meet Mick Jagger, I'm like, okay, I get to meet Mick Jagger that's exciting and it was actually Mickey Dolans, I get more excited.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: I had a rare opportunity to get a message to Nick Jagger once.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'd get a message to make that.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: I was interviewing a screenwriter who was working on a project with Nick Jagger.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: And as the phone call was wrapping up, he was like, yeah, I got to go.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: I have a meeting with Nick Jagger.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, can you send him a message for me?
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: And he was like, sure.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, oh, I didn't think this through.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: And my tell him the spotted kuku was flying backwards.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: I said, tell him he was great and free Jagger.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: He was like, I'll do it, and I'm like, great.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: And afterwards, I was like, of all the messages, I could have slipped a big jagger to bring up Fried Jack.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: Tell him he was great in Fried Jack.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, Tane that he was great in Fried Jack.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because, yeah, this kind of like Darth Vader and Forsyter type character.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: Free Jack, if you don't remember, it is an early 90s sci-fi movie about how in the near future, like all the air and everything is so toxic that rich people are downloading their brains into healthy young people, but the healthiest people are from before we fucked up the future, so they rip travel from out of covering the time.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: Emilio Estevez was a race car driver, and he was in a famous car accident, and they rip him out of time.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like a moment before he's about to die, so now he's like decades into the future.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Anthony Hopkins sends Mick Jagger out to hunt him down like the fugitive, so Anthony Hopkins can download his brain into a young Emilio Estevez.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's a real movie that exists, and it's called Free Jack.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: No one in the movie is called Jack.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's like jacking in to a brain.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's no computer slang.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: You'd say that, but no, they call it that in the movie.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: They do, they say, I think they, when Millie West was, because you could run away, they say.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: They say, they say, we have a fridge.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we have a fridge.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, yeah, that's, I was like, when you called, do you enjoy this dream of electric sheet blade runner?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like, no, it's not.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's not what that's called.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: No one uses that term, but this is different.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: Also, Blade Runt, they're running with scissors, like why is it where they're called?
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: I asked, actually, when I did the interviews for the sequel.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, the original screenwriter was there and I was asked, like, seriously, why did you bleed runer of all things?
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: And it was like, there's such a dangerous job, it's like you're running along a bleed edge.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: And how is like, really?
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: No, basically.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: Is that your follow up question?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's more or less.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's a question, really.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, we needed something cool.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's all.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: And we're going to let us keep the title ahead of you.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: And during the week, it was from another movie.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we got to do with it.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's a whole weird history.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, this is already flown off the rails.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: This is our podcast where typically you control the conversation here.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: The critically acclaimed network, we answer your correspondence on we've got mail.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: There are two ways to correspond.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: You can send us an email.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Our email address is letters as critically acclaimed.net or.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: If you are so inclined, you can send us a piece of physical mail, a postcard, a letter, whatever you want to our PO box.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: And after 188 episodes of We've Got Mail, I still do not remember the PO box, so Whitney is in charge of that part.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we actually did receive a package.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: And the address is facing you right now.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think you don't want to give it a try?
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: See how it feels on your tongue.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: I've said it so much.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's just automatic at this point.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, send your mail to the critically-claimed network at P.O.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: Box.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Six, four, one, five, six, five.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: Los Angeles.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: Ka.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, Emo Phillips, nine zero zero, six four.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: We have a piece of letters here.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: We actually did get some packages over the course of the last couple of weeks, which is extremely nice.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: Which is very kind of you.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: One is quite a large box and we're going to start with that.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and if you send us something to our PO box.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: We will read it on the air in a matter of what it is.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know what's up with every email, but we always make time for the deal.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're not so inundated with letters that we have to sift through them all.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: We are with emails, but letters take precedence.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is a big box.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: It has some lovely items inside of them.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: There is a blue ray, a juizoitami's tumpopo, the criterion of this.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh, look at this.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: This is a
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: a copy of Thomas Pension's Mason and Dixen.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, like a library copy.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: They go all hefty hard-bomb dishes.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's really nice.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm clunking it around so you can hear that there's something here.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: Let me flip the pages in front of the mic.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's good.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good sound.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: Let me flick the Blu-ray box.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that could be anything.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone knows a criterion box sounds a little bit for when you do this.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: Especially Tom Popo in particular.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, sounds like that.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: And it comes with a little letter as well.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: Here's some pages.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, Dr. Bibbs, and Dr. Ruckmeister McCool.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: I feel very happy to finally be sending these presents your way.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'll thank you so much.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: I've wanted to do so for years.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: The reason it took me this long to send them is because for far too long,
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: My income has been unreliable.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I can't hold it.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'll relate to that.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: What do I get that?
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: I never lacked a roof over my head, but it was difficult to spend on things that weren't needs.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Then I turned this into a new goal.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: Once I turned things around financially, I would be happy to send them.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: This past December, I graduated from college.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: Congratulations!
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's a congratulations.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: It was a rocky journey.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm 29 years old, and the feeling that I should be in a better place if this age is hard to shake off at times.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: quarter life crisis.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: We'll continue.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: I am 43 and I feel like I should be further along than I have that.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: I rough time during my community college years for many years.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: I skipped a semester here and there.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: I would take one single course for the whole semester.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: I wasted so much time, not just in my career, but in other other aspects of my life.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: I know I suffer from anxiety and it kept me from doing so much.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not alone on that.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: Lots of people do that.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's a very
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: that's very relatable topic.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: It was surprising to me when I realized oh shit, I have enough credits to get my associates degree and transfer to a university.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: Remember having this moment at work, it was a new opportunity.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: University of New York, different.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: I could not afford to waste any more time or I would get into great debt.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: My financial aid would only go so far.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: Somehow, I managed.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: The environment was so much better for me.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: I was older to, I think, older to, so I think it made it easier.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: The people around me in the classes I could now take were a better fit.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: It was more social.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: I made a few friends and didn't feel I was lonely as I had during my community college years.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: Throughout those years, I listened to countless hours of your podcasts.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: I first became aware of you through the, and appearance on the Shmo's No show.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: The very first episode you released on their network is memorable to me.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: I remember getting in my car the 1999 Honda, I had the time.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: Part well done.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: Part in front of the house, I used to rent a room at and started,
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: and uh... starting your podcast during the uh... the master and bell field earth i was hooked that's when we were doing the feature yeah that was fun yet is that the master is about an hour on a hubbert like character so he figured that the master be a good double feature with battlefield earth which is based on a lot of her i mean that is a really good double feature i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: Who else thinks of pairing these two?
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's didn't mean to that.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: That means the way you both add context.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: When talking about films, the way you're both so excited to talk about it.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm notoriously bad film as well as a well.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: Regarding one, I love the mix.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: I just looked it up, and that episode was posted on the Collider podcast.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: YouTube channel seven years ago.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, I've been a second.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: You guys have kept me company for at least the last seven years.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: I remember the many walks by myself, especially in the long, cold and dark December days, when it was difficult not to be depressed and finding something to look forward to or how thankful I was for the length of your project.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: We do go on.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I finally graduated in December 2024.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: I have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's important.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: You're smarter than us.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I wanted to send you these small presents right away.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: However, I graduated without a job lined up.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: And not so much money in the bank.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: I've been super lucky though.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: I had my first job interview in early January And they gave me an offer which I took.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's amazing.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: I started to wish you February and well It's not a permanent position yet.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's likely to become one regardless even if I don't get a Permanent offer by the end of the year.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm getting the so sought after experience that employers asked for but I but don't want to give you
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: I believe I can find another job if this one doesn't work out.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: I feel optimistic career-wise.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: The job is in San Francisco.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's very expensive here, even more so than LA.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: Which is something.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: We're both in the top 10.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's like about 3,000 in the month for that box out on the corner.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's pretty bad in San Francisco.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: Getting paid well after seven months my finances are in order.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: This is a new city for me where I yet again Don't know anybody or didn't know anybody.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's become easier to meet people my co-workers here I've been really cool to me and I ran my age plus I've met a bunch of people through playing soccer and a wreck league also.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: There's a big big home You can do it.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: I can't read this word.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: It was a big something community here
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so there's a big film community.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Film community here, okay.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: There's a huge real IMAX screen in the city, but it pales and compares into the legendary Roxy.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: I saw one of my favorite films in the mood for love twice in July.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: They show great films here all the time.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: parenthesis.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: Whitney, I don't understand how you can find in the mood for love boring.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen it seven or eight times and it's always thrilling for me.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: There's so much packed and every scene, every shot is beautiful, but there's also so much meat to chew on.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's so emotionally packed, the oppression, the shame, the melancholy, I feel it all.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: I would like to keep writing about in the mood for love because there's a lot of I'd like to say to Whitney about it, this is not the letter for that all move on.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, all I'll say is really in the mood for love.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's like that is definitely in the mood for law.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I'm but the one sticking on my critic who dislikes in the mood for love like it's not my favorite or anything like that But I have argued that it's the only movie you're allowed to use the word achingly to describe.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the achingly poor You can
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: Go.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: I will continue on this letter from this generous Generous and kind listener who actually like gifted us some things and no longer mock in the mood for life Anyways, I'm in a better place now and I feel very happy to give you guys a little something It's nothing in comparison to the countless hours you have gifted me about the gifts the podcast where good taste is chased down by bad taste Punched and kicked mercilessly until what's this good taste has a grenade end insert explosion sound effect here
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: I love art that combines the silly, the cheap, the vulgar, etc.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: What some people would call bad taste with smart nuanced skillful craft good taste.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we try.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's the sublime, and there's the ridiculous, and fuck everything else.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: For William, Tom Popo is one of my absolute favorites.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: Tom Popo is, of course, when he has been talking of that, and I still haven't seen it, and I need to say that.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: I've learned this, I think.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: Tempo is what I have absolute favorites.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: I believe Whitney is the reason I first watched it every reason It's come up on the podcast and we're invited.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't seen it.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: I Reminded you haven't seen it.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you don't feel any pressure to to see it now But it's available to you if you ever feel like it.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: It also has a lovely cover and criterion And really cool extras This year I watched all of juzzo-y Tommy's films and we're working on them all.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: I've only seen the funeral Beside Tempo
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: Giuseppe Tommy, uh, recommend them all.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: Bids, I think you would also enjoy super market woman, where it's, you tell me, as usual, star, a Nabuko Miyamoto, where the owner of a super failing supermarket hires her to fix things.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's all about how a supermarket works and how she fixes the place by making a better, make it a better place to work for everyone and thinking of the customers, not as numbers, but as people.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: Other words, uh, in another film, she is hired by a hotel to get rid of the Yakuza blackmailing.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: to the same character?
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I hope so.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: Juzi?
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: Juzi, Tommy's films are all very funny.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: Goofy bizarre at times, but he's also tackling serious topics and being sharply critical of various aspects of Japanese society.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: He makes fun of the Yakuza, which may have cost him his life.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: He criticizes the government, taxivators, greedy businesses, and snobbs among others.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, sorry, Whitney.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because I'm a star.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yeah, it's fine.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: I wear the subricut For Whitney Mason and Dixon Thomas Pension is one of my two favorite writers and it's a big old tone.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great yeah.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you could you could break a window with that.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: I love his work and if there's anybody who brings bad taste and good taste into their work It's this guy It Mason and Dixon we follow the story of two surveyors who drew the Mason Dixon line as told by one of Reverend
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: by one reverend Wix Cherry Coke, pinching character names are the best.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: There's also a talking dog and a vengeful, invisible mechanical duck that's after the surveying partners, French chef.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: You had me at vengeful talking, mechanical talking, dog.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: Full of obscure references Mason and Dixon has written in the late late 18th century English So I'm hoping Whitney will be into that as well.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's that's as bad.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: Very much so.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I find the right into this case When I'm like I'll felt Doing
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't feel pressured to read it.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's a huge book.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just put it on the pile of books that I intend to read because they're quite a lot of them.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, this was so long.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't used to pen this much in over ten years.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: This is all wonderful.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: My writing is getting worse every year too.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you again for the countless hours.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: Your fan, Miguel.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Miguel.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: Miguel, that was wonderful.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: And thank you.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: The gifts were really nice.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: This is...
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's so sweet.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: Too generous.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't have to do that, obviously, but just it means to be said, I am so happy to hear your story.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so happy that we were there to entertain you throughout your college experience, at least some of the time.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it sounds like you're on a really good path.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: Sounds like you've got a really good career ahead of you.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: I remember one of the best bits of advice people gave me when, you know,
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: get good at something else right it be good at another thing because that will probably pay your bills at some point and I didn't
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: I can do his film criticism and type, those are my two things and typing is not as useful as it used to be Because everyone uses the speech things now.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, gosh.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: I was The advice I was given and that I kind of rejected When I first got into college when I was around 18 is you're gonna spend most of your adulthood or probably the whole of your 20s paying dues
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: Sitting things up.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: You're not going to become successful at 22.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to happen.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like, up, shawl, get out of college and have a, or say, well, it's actually just in the pain by like 20.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: He was 26.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be, I'll be fine.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'll do that.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, when I was 30, I finally paid off my student loans.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: Good job.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be able never do.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: This day, this day in edge.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, finally paid off my student loans.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: I was told about this.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: I put them into deferment.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: I was working a lot of wage jobs and I somehow managed to parlay wage jobs into just higher and higher wage jobs until I was actually kind of making a decent living.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: But I was working a movie theater so I was working nights.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: Don't work nights and then have a baby because it will destroy your brain.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: So just work nights.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: If you're gonna work nights, that's your life.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you work nights.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: You're the night guy, you're not gonna have a lot of friends because they're probably out having fun at night.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: Now you're basically a professional zombie.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: More or less.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, when I got out of college, I, uh, I had that thing that, like, some, like, overachievers in school have where, like, you adapted to a school environment, uh, and once you're out of it, you don't know what the fuck to do.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: Right, because you have to motivate yourself.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: You have to give yourself these goals.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: No one's grading you.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: No one's telling you when things are due.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: You have to actually make things happen on your own.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a solid,
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: two maybe three years in my mid-twenties that are basically a blur as I fell into malaise depression lost all my motivation and
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, that's, that's, it's really, really rough.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I really admire your stick to it,iveness, Miguel, that's really, really great.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: And Kudos to you and congratulations.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: And thank you for the kind words and for telling us your story, sharing your stories, everybody, and these gifts, and I will finally get a chance to watch Tim Popo.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: Please do.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, ooh, this is great.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: Some people have a highlighted passages in this copy.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big sign.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: Take a random passage of it.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'll see you.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: This is just one line and the tie-lighted does Britannia when she sleeps dream is America her dream It feels like Werner Herzog wrote it and then Maybe Werner Herzog was reading this because the only it there's three words at the end of this paragraph that's also highlighted And the words are and our despair
- 19:05[SPEAKER_00]: Beautiful so that this may have belonged to burner hair.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's all got some point that are Christian slaters character from Heather Scott into Yeah, just did random random highlight a guy wait.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: Is that the only I don't see a lot of passage.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm seeing no Somebody highlighted that one pass it.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: I was Christian slater dude Is there a throw you off?
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: Well, what if my favorite headlines in the onion was Underlining and Plato's Republic stops on page 16
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's as far as any college could get when there didn't know it's on that's about right as Republic but that's not the only thing we had on our PO box No, we got another package with postcard and here is what was in that package I opened the box early to say you wouldn't have to hear me struggling with the box on Mike It comes from England.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: It is a day-to-day rip them off day calendar
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: call the thing you know films, and there's a different trivia question on every day.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: And it comes with this postcard from Glenn.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, Bibs and Whitney, just a note to say hi.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: And thank you for all the funny as well as the thoughtful discourse.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: The enclosed game is a Christmas present for you to share.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: Hope your 2026 is 10 times better than your 2025.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: Me too.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's saying Glenn, so this postcard comes from Greens Windmill in Nottingham, so this is beautiful.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just a lovely old windmill.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm opening up this box.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: Eddie is hard, has a funny bit, she said.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she comes from Europe where the history comes from.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, which you know, that's funny thing to say to us Americans because we don't know our own history So yeah, ask that's me some questions from this Oh, here we go.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, this is just and this is next year.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: This is not like some like old
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: retro no this is like up-to-date all right and I when I was a kid someone told me and I think they made it up That it's bad luck to look ahead in a calendar like if you look at like January fan till we back like I invited by that.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't look at the next month until like I opened it I would look at every month and then I would just hang out, but I being
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: A wise, wizard, wisdomly wizard.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to ignore it.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, for the quad W as we say.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is the first step.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: In this month in 1985, Minnesota, Born Brothers, Joel and Ethan Cohen released their debut film, a gruesome black comedy, which sold the story of a bar owner who hired a private detective to follow, and eventually kill his two timing, wife, and her lover.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: But what was the title?
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: Give everyone a moment.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: What was the title of Blood Simple?
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's Blood Simple.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that's correct.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: But there's also a bonus one.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: True or false.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: False.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: There would be no up in Hymer without Twilight.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, there's got, I mean, all these Hollywood connections are really weird.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, true.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, it is true.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: What does it explain anything?
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: I remember that I think it was Robert Pattinson who like gave
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Christy for Nolan, like the book, up and down.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: So there might be more direct than that, but I did remember hearing that.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: I know that there are a lot of really weird connections.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: I know that, for instance, Reservoir Dogs, probably wouldn't have gotten the kind of hype that it needed to get made.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: If it worked for Monty Helman, giving it sort of passing around, and Monty Helman was only allowed to talk about Quentin Tarantino because he agreed to make Silent Night Deadly Night 3.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: Cole in a better watch out.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the one where they recast The main killer with a bill mostly with the clear skull you can see his brain.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you don't like it I'm not a herring is in it and Because he agreed to make that movie he could start hyping around Resort yes, I'm not sure what the exact timeline of events is but Evidently we wouldn't have reservoir dogs if Monty Helman didn't make so I did lean at three Those kinds of things
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna get Hollywood all the time.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what you might not know of the top of your head.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: Instand by me.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: What's the name of the protagonist in Gordi's pie eating contest story?
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little twist.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: Don't tell me the multiple choice.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: Oh gosh, what was his name?
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: Davey Hogan.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, David Hogan.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: That may or may not be true, but these are all Nick Davy, Lardass Hogan.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: Lardass.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's correct.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: The options were slim fats, oh, Chubby, or Lardass.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: Classic.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, true or false, the RT charcoal pick of Kate Winslet's breasts and Titanic was drawn by James Cameron.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say that's true that is true because I know those hands on the shot.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know it's also like a really talented artist in an edition to be a filmmaker Okay, let's do one more To choose a random one part way through the year flip way choose choose my birthday
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: Just the first of August.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: First of all.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: First of all.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: First of all.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: August was not a fun birthday to have when you're a kid because all my friends were out of town for some vacation.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the weekend has is a two for.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: Which 90s movie had the following tagline?
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: This story will touch you even though he can't ghost.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: Edward says her hands.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, good guess though.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, good guess.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's a very plausible.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: uh... true fault and the scene in alien with the alien comes out of john hurts stomach the actors were not told it was going to happen they were told it was going to happen uh... there that's been a problem with the case you know the idea that
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: there was this rumor that's been going around for many years that when the alien popped out nobody knew that on set except for Ridley Scott knew that the alien was going to jump out right and so the actor's reaction is really genuine right of course they knew it was going to come out they had to lay him down and set up all of the servos it was like all of the stuff ran back to the base that they knew it was going to happen but they hadn't seen it before they hadn't seen it before and what happened was they they weren't prepared for how much blood
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so when it come out and they all got sprayed, they look really startled because they didn't know that was gonna happen It's the same thing when no Brooks did Dracula dead and loving it.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: There's that scene with us What's in Weber Steven Weber staking Not me, no Lucy, Lucy, he states Lucy and there's just a staggering amount of blood And he didn't know how much there was gonna be and it's really funny.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's yeah It's the funniest bit in that whole movie
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: That one in the scene where Peter McNichol is eating the bugs those are like you just like eating bugs I just like Peter McNichol.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh that's true Well thank you for that.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's really what you take the calendar.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, well, I guess we get to decide who gets to rip those off Maybe a kick we you know what we should leave it by the mic.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's a good idea And just read one every once in a while.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's a great idea.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just so we'll do that.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's a fun
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: and I got one wrong so they're not all yeah total giving us yeah no there's a few of them there some of them are for easy maybe they get harder throughout the week that's sometimes the thing oh maybe yeah like the will shorts yeah New York Times Cross would probably be exactly maybe I don't know good idea if that's okay
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, and we also have a bunch of emails so I can get to some of these.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a second since we've checked these, so a lot of these are a little old.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: I like to go back and forth, read some old dates and new.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: This one comes from after our Halloween marathon episode.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: So this one comes from Brad.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, Brad.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Brad.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: Greetings, Bibs and Whitney.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm writing this to you as your latest episode of We've got Mail just dropped, so damn I should have written this last night, assuming you recorded on Halloween.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: But I hope this finds you well.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: The same, I've had a pretty eventful spooky season this year, as I have seen 109 films this season.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: This sees it.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: Well, how long is the season?
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, if it's just a month that's a month.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's a that's a staggering That's that's a lot of all first time viewing granted.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: I started at the oh at the end of August Oh, yeah, but it's still quite a lot.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's a lot on a couple of months I beat my record for my studio, which was 80 and that was a lot, too.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's still a lot Anyway, I didn't write you just a humble brag although a lot of the films I watched were films you recommended Rock Hill rules by the way
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: God, let's get that cult started.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: Where is that cult?
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's out there.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: There's this rocket People's Dracula people, but they're like individuals.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: We've never like there's no rocket convention I suppose no one's ever had one.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: No, maybe I'll leave the first you can be the first rocket convention Great great all 10 of them
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: All those people that will show up, shut up.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm writing to you because I listened to your Halloween marathon episode last night on Halloween, and I couldn't help but come up with my own program that I would put on, if someone gave me the keys to a movie theater on Halloween night.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: The idea between on behind that list was we each came up with an all nighter, like a Halloween all night.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like, from sundown to sun up, you have to program at the movie theater,
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: wall to wall.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: You can have like a five minute break here.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: There are wall to wall.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: Movies, shorts, maybe episode to TV.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: That would be appropriate for a Halloween, all night movie.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and and we timed ours out to the minute.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, we we were huge nerds about it.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: But he said, as Brad says, I tried to play within the same parameters.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: You did coming up with the order and times for each showing.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: I did have a few very specific spooky themes in mind.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I present to you a very spooky British Halloween.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_03]: Ooh!
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: Starting at 6 p.m.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: Doctor Who, the brain of Morbius Episode 1.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think was in that one.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that one.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: But the brain of Morbius sounds pretty cool.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great one.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: 25 minutes, followed by at 6.25, Sean of the deck.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: 805 28 days later, Danny Boyle.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, oh, then oh, here I go.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: Then at 10 p.m. Dr. Who the Brain of Morious Episode 2.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: So you're gonna get the whole Oh, that makes sense.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's clever.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: I like that.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: I like that a lot.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, 10 25 Ghost Watch.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: Do you know Ghost Watch?
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: I have been talking of Ghost Watch in this podcast for many years.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: Ghost Watch was a TV movie.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: That was for Nickelodeon.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_00]: That was not just scary.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: No, that was something something something lame.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: Silver something lame.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, cherry creak lame.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: No, it was um,
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: Dead Bird Lane something like scary bones like we we actually covered that on cancel too soon a long time ago But no night goes watch is an amazing fucking movie It was it aired on TV as a live Halloween special With like experts talking about paranormal activity and they would cut
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: to like a guy like interviewing like trick-a-treaters and stuff and also they were at a house in London or wherever they were that was allegedly haunted and over the course of the episode scary things that the TV movie the scary things actually started to happen they didn't break character there wasn't unless like you recognized some of the not famous actors who were in it you people didn't know they were getting real calls at the TV station
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: Children were traumatized like it's in the books like psychology textbooks have like
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: there's stuff about ghost watch in it and how kids were just completely terrified and taken by surprise by this movie and it holds up great it's such an awesome little bit hello that's that's the that's the 10 25 p.m. screen yeah midnight dog soldiers oh that's all just a military war wolf film yeah a bunch of uh it's basically uh what if aliens but we can't afford another planet but uh instead of aliens it's where wolves
- 31:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good idea.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: Great fucking pants.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's 105 minutes.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: So that means like.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: It means at 145 we're getting brain of more BS episode 3.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_00]: Then that's 20.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: Each one of these is only 25 minutes.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: Which I think is is pretty clever to insert those in there.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: Those are going to be too long.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_00]: I like that a lot.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, that means at 210 a.m. We're getting descent.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm, yeah, the speed-lunking movie where there's monsters in the cave.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's also Neil Marshall, because think dog soldiers and the descendant both Neil Marshall?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: Isn't it?
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's Alexander.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: No, definitely not.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely not.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think it was both Neil Marshall movies.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: The descendant is scary, it's fog.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the descendant.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Neil Marshall, yeah.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, that's a hundred minutes.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: Then that means we're at three fifty a.m. We're going to get a 90 minute film called the stone tape.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know the stone.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, look up the stone.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: But to that's 90 minutes, that means at five twenty we're getting Dr. Who bring a more piece of episode four.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: That means at five forty five a.m. Curse Frankenstein.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good one.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: Nice.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: Good one.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it ends at seven ten a.m.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to hear your thoughts on my programming any changes you might make in ordering or substitutions within the theme.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: I hope this podcast, I hope you do this podcast again because it was a lot of fun putting this together and more importantly it sounded like you guys had a lot of fun doing it too.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, more the better.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for all you do Brad.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, tell me about the stone tape.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is a stone tape is I'm in a tree.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's cool.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: Um, it is from a writer Nigel Niel who had worked on Quadermass, which is of course legendary and it is
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: The setup is actually pretty straightforward, seen it before, paranormal investigators in a haunted house.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: However, they believe that the stones in the house have recorded the events that have happened in there.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, help us out.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: So they're like recording off of the stones, which, I mean, this is just all I'm leaning off of,
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: surfacey stuff, but sounds fucking cool.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: One of the first to promulgate the hypothesis of residual haunting that ghosts may be recordings of past events made by the physical environment was T.C.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: Lathbridge and books such as Ghost and Goal, written in 1961.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess that's see idea.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: Really, that recent.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: And a whole theory of, and apparently was a significant influence
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so that's fucking awesome.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: And the brain of Morbias is a Tom Baker serial.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and apparently it's basically Frankenstein riff.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: They're building a body out of various parts that put like the might of a time-lord or something It's okay, which sounds really cool.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good time.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's a fun.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's a fun marathon right there And it's I like that there's a couple things I've never heard of
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and we have more, and if you want to hear some more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more of them, more
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: Jenny from block so that was about the second.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Greetings, Jens.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: J.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: Lo says, this season I did not make it to the Mahoning Drive, the Mahoning Drive in, nearly as much as I would have liked to.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: July 4th weekend, I attended something weird slash ad for weekend.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_00]: Something weird video has marathon.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: Something weird slash ad for.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, I just, I, I'm just,
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's syncing you.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know that was a thing.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: This is awesome.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_00]: And AGFA is the American genre film association.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: They have all of the greatest beam movies.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_00]: We're got to see a double feature of teenage gangdabs and she-mob and a mystery triple feature of the Shaw Brothers human lanterns which you can see.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: followed by Erg, a music war, before falling asleep through most of conquest.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: I mean conquest, yeah, I can see falling asleep in conquest.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's fine, by the way.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: I went to again the following weekend for a VHS fast, where I got to see both basket case and brain damage, brain cannonlaughter in attendance, who complained that it was too hot and there were too many flies here.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's it.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: I was gonna get some brain damage with brain cannonlaughter in here soon, dude.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: And discovered a new favorite of mine, Cyco's in love.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't seen something.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I've seen Cyco's in love.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, that's a weird fucking thing.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, oh my, this is something weird videos.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they know what they're doing.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I discovered in, uh, psychos of mine, psychos of mine, psychos of mine.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: But on the drive-up, my break lines broke, and we had to get into an Uber to the drive-in.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: Mostly the weather was clear and sitting on the front front row under a massive cinema scope screen was a treat.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: But the old minivan down, uh,
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: but with the old minivan down for the peak season and some of my family issues that have required more of my time I put a damper on things.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: With Halloween on a Friday this year, the Mahoning decided to start a new tradition at the All-Night Halloween Scarathon.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: Five mystery features to close out the last night of the drive-in season.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_00]: Without a second thought, I got tickets and went.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: The event sold out 700 tickets and the vibes and the lot were incredible.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: Despite being a cold, windy, pencil-winged night, the people were chatting, handing out candy, and celebrating one last night for the year.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: Here's what played.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: Before each movie were trailer reels, five trailers on all on 35mm, as well as intermission countdowns of vintage ads and personalized season greetings for the first featured guests over the years.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: As well as lengthy information.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: The first four features shown on 35 and the last was digital.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, this is at five.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: Sounds like we're ready.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_00]: first 8 p.m. Mausoleum 1983.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, following a young woman possessed by a demon who possesses the oldest born woman in each generation of his, this family.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: It was wild, weird, fun way to start the night.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: The T is that a different movie was planned, but the owner had a gut feeling that the reels wouldn't arrive in time, and instead I'd go hooked them up at the last minute with a Mausoleum.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: Nice.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to know what the original plan was.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: I would also like them.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: Second 10 30 p.m.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: The ringer of the night black Christmas.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this was a newly struck print Curse of the original.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_00]: The original.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, night is every four.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: This was a newly struck print courtesy of Akvan boy did it look gorgeous.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's an incredibly pretty movie.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot of people.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, really good for good photography and that Yeah, a lot of people watch it like on the show or in VHS, but if you ever get chance to see that on the big screen when it's cleaned up like Bob Black shot the shit out.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, I think it's gorgeous
- 37:38[SPEAKER_00]: I was running on two little sleep and came straight from work, so it dosed off a few times through this one.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_00]: I also discovered I completely misread the ending of the movie, the other tie-died scene at.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: Without giving away any spoilers, I missed the last shot of the movie.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: Oh well.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: Damn.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: And there's an additional comment that I'm not to read how loud.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: Because I would spoil the movie.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_00]: Third film, 1am, Nightmare, 1981.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: which perhaps seems the most hateable childhood characters in a horror movie I've ever seen.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: A fourth, three, thirty, a.m. the children, which I made of all five minutes into before falling asleep, the children's pretty, pretty, it's a little twisted, it's pretty fun.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: The kids who are bonding over the brain and the cave,
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: and they become like, what, possessed killers?
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I've seen this one.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, maybe I'm mixing it up with the film.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_00]: At 5 a.m., I cracked up at a red bull and enjoyed some racist pieces to get energy for the last flick, and for the two-hour drive home.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_00]: Because finally at 5.20 a.m., my favorite movie of the night, Pin 1988.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: It was just so bonkers.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: Pin was like, hey, it's psycho.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_00]: We were late for the late 80s.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it's got a weird fucking vibe.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's about a young man and a sister who
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like Psycho, it's kind of like an origin story of a killer, so it's about this young boy's childhood and how his father used this of visible anatomy, life-size anatomy doll that was named after Pinocchio, the golden pin.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_00]: And he, like, started to attach a lot of these weird psycho-sexual impulses to pin, and his father would ventriloquize, you know, use ventriloquism to make pin speak.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: And he ended up started doing that as well.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: He started getting this weird creepy incestuous relationship with his sister.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty well, Phil.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's it's it's twisted.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Dr. You have to see it though, Doug news is ventralic was him to talk to his Procuchus children through a hyper realistic human anatomy doll, but the siblings grow older the brother still thinks pin short for Pinocchio is talking to him Which is a really fun scenes in WGF moments.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: I checked.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's on shutter right now
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: Check it out.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, definitely check it out.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: As the credits rolled a little after 7 a.m. just as the sun was coming up over the horizon to watch out the screen, those of us remaining gathered at the front lot to receive our commemorative tickets as bragging rights for surviving the night.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: You always gotta get a prize.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: You have to.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: You make it all through the night and come on.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's like William Castle rules.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta give them some.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: typically even the big sold out events by the time the third movie starts a majority of guests have left if there are a ton of diehard fans there that night 350 people half of those who started survey that that's a good that's a really good if only half of the people dropped out yeah that's that's a lot actually that's that's pretty well yeah i surveyed i gathered for group photo to cap off the season some i'm somewhere in here about a third of the way from the left here's uh uh
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: Photo of everybody lined up in front of my car and yeah, it's kind of kind of hard to see in this email But yeah, yeah, I'm reading it off my phone, so it's not I think I can see which one is you But it's like a weird wall though.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it's very polite.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was great time I'm going to miss them a honing in the offseason, but I'm eagerly awaiting their roadshow dates Where they do a night of programming in the offseason at 35 millimeter indoor theaters and the greater Philly slash New York area Halloween isn't a day.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's a way of living sign jail.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh
- 41:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: That sounds like a really, really good one.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really jealous.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_01]: I only didn't all night, one once.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: She can't remember everything that they showed.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_01]: We definitely watched the original Friday to 13th was the first time I'd ever seen it in a big screen, which that movie is so much better in the big screen.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's so much more atmospheric than it gets credit for.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's just like you just alone in the woods at night.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just a pitch black after the first tree.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, then you hear that like,
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, nope.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's a, it's a low budget film, but it was meant to be like genuinely scary.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't corny.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's the sequels.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: It started to get a little silly, but it's really great, though.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, here is a letter from a, a name redacted.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_00]: If there's no name at the bottom, I'm not going to read your name off of the subject's line.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just going to assume you've rather be anonymous.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: So here's another all-nighter from NamerDacted.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, Bibles and Rockmeister McGoole spelled in a very creative way.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely adore the all-nighter and think it is a very, very fun idea.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see more episodes of it with fun themes and I might be a good occasional swap with the all-nighter and list where you get to vote on the theme of an all-nighter you guys put together.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's not a bad idea.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and what we swap out iron list ideas, just with all items, we let listeners choose this subject of an all-nighter.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's very fun.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: I was so inspired that I decided to do my own it.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_00]: I decided to run mine as 6pm to 715am, which is a little math simplicity.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: So it relatively reflected the length you guys had in yours.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_00]: I ended up in a format of three themed blocks of programming with a 10 minute break between each block.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: So to get things going, my first block is Kid's Teen Horror.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted my first block to cater to those that wouldn't go the full night.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, and hopefully scale up the age group.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's attending to hit with each film, starting with at 6 p.m. Scooby-do-ons, I'm Be Island.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: 1998.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to start out with something light and fun while it's a little spooky.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_00]: This is my favorite run of the made for TV Scooby-do movies.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was around the time when the monsters became real.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the monsters became real in the 80s, but they started, and then Scooby-Doo said way into a pup named Scooby-Doo in the early 90s, and then it kind of came roaring back with that all supernatural sort of slant, and then the James Gunn written movies right, brought back.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: Sort of that they weren't real except also they were We kind of got lost in the weeds, but anyway Let's see then followed by the 2015 version of goose bumps at 718 p.m. Rafe.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, this is a smaller step up than then
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: And then the next one will be, but I truly love this movie.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a great way to set the Halloween mood.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's got a good vibe.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's got a great mood.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: And there are great movies, but they have a good vibe.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: And also if anyone wants to take their kids, you know, and like, but not spend the whole night, you have to get a double-feature out of it.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's really good for that.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: Um, then we have at 902 p.m. to 1023 p.m.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_00]: Scream Halloween special from 2016.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: This is the last time we got to see the cast of the Scream TV series.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: And then do I miss these characters and this one is just off story and it's just so much fun.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's awesome.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: I never saw that Scream TV series.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: It was an MTV.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: It was a mixed bag, but there were definitely some good bits.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I think Beck's Taylor Claus was in that and they're great.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and uh, and yeah, I remember that Halloween special being really fun.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and that's and that's then there's a 10 minute break.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's the first block.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_00]: So the kids can go on.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's like 10 23.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: Again, after a first break we get into the second block of programming Asian films.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of fun.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_00]: Asian horror movies out there and these won't be.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_00]: These won't be too late, so people won't want to read the subtitles.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: 10.33pm Echo Azirak, Wizard of Darkness from 1995.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want magical school girl films with evil lesbian teachers?
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: A girl tried to summon Lucifer at exploding bodies, then I find a film for you.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want well done.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: I want that very much.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, Echo Azirak.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: I've never heard of that, that sounds awesome.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_00]: uh... from eleven fifty four p.m. until after midnight twelve eleven a.m. mom if i were a vampire from twenty twenty two a short film and my choice for best vampire movie ever seventeen minutes of tywanness goodness uh... highly highly recommend uh... from twelve eleven to a.m. to one forty nine a.m. while zero
- 45:34[SPEAKER_00]: This one, as we get past Midnight, we want to go bonkers.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: There's nothing quite as bonkers as wild zero.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to stay up late, this is the film to watch.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's about a rock band that fights monsters with their instruments.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's a real band called a guitar wolf guitar wolf.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a story about a guy who's like a huge fan of guitar wolf.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: And he falls in love with a girl.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then he finds out she's trans and he has kind of a crisis.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: And guitar wolf shows up to A.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_01]: Help them realize that love knows no gender and you need to get the fuck over it and be with the grass and you love and be kills on be some space with magic guitar pecs Both of those things both of those things happen in that movie
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: 1999 and it's super trans-possessed.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's a fucking cool.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's such a great play.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: Then there's another block.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: From 149 a.m. to 159 another break.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: And for the final block, it's two late for subtitles.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: So bring it back to the English language.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: Four films from recent years.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: From 159 a.m. to 347 a.m.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_00]: Fear Street, 1994.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: This one was such a frantic pace that it fits well into this late time slot.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's like three slasher movies crammed together Yeah, so it was it all three But just 94 just the first one.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, then 348 am to five 28 am happy death day to you Oh, this one is one of the funny that's you just want to edge of humor late into a run like this I was stick with the first happy death day
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think the first happy death day is a better horror movie.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: Happy death day too, kind of bust the horror stuff, go to the side, it's more like a sci-fi horror movie.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's really good, and it's very underrated, and I was really dumb that it didn't do as well as the first and a happy death day tree, got the at least delayed, although I heard rumbling that it might actually find it would be happy.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'd like just get just if you're wrote back on screen because she's fantastic as a star she is she needs to be in more movies And then finally five twenty five twenty nine a.m. to seventeen eighty eighteen a.m. Abigail Finishing up absolutely gore fest watching a vampire film is the sudden comes up just feels fitting and 17 18
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: And it's one of those vampire movies where like the end is the sun coming up so it's like it's perfect.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: Now that's that's a really good marathon.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and a couple of things I haven't seen that's all.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think that like the ideal Halloween marathon is couple of ringers.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: So everyone people who don't want to be challenged get it something if in for it.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then your new favorite film.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I've never, I didn't know this existed and if I had none existed, I might never have watched it.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: And you had me, you know, I paid for the ticket, so I had to be here and fuck.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_00]: Wild Zero is my new favorite film so yeah, that's that's a great way that's that's the best way to do it And that's so that's it for the all writers we got here, so we can move on to some other things This one comes from Lee hello Lee hi, Bibles and Whitney.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_00]: I love your cozy movies episode We did a an up iron list about the coziest movies of all time
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: A couple of weeks ago this morning.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: I love your cozy movies episode, and the discussion slash confusion about what cozy means, because I've had similar thoughts and conversations about that word.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to recommend a couple of movies that I think would that I think fit that you might like.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_00]: The first one came to my mind immediately as a movie from South Korea, 2018 called Little Forest.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know this one.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's basically about making it eating food using seasonal ingredients throughout the year, but also about friends and finding peace in a quiet place.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's simple, but I really loved it, and I think it
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: Perfectly fits the cozy label.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: This seems to share elements with Tom Popo.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_01]: There we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we go, there we
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all I had was Gaspacho on this hot day.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's gonna be great and they called cool down You know what?
- 49:37[SPEAKER_00]: Let's not stop fighting guys.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just let's just vote
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: or the deleted scene from Batman Returns when he gets a VG Swazz.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's supposed to be cold.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't deleted.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_01]: No, no.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: The deleted bit is when he really goes to town on it.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we're just snarfs down the VG Swazz.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: But we can't see this, like, by the way.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: A movie from this year that I didn't think I'd like, based on the trailer about end up liking a lot, is definitely the co- uh, as definitely cozy, is the ballot of Wallace Island.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard this is amazing.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think I'm going to be able to get to this before we do our best of the year.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_00]: And at some things in common with some of your picks outside or arrives from a small seaside town, sweaters, and also folk music, which seems to increase the cozy factor to me.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: A few others would probably make my list here from Belgium, not the time hanks one, but the one about school.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: What about soup soup the Belgian film about super perfect days from Japan in 2023 the cave of the yellow dog I remember and that one came out from Mongolia in 2005 and Maybe once though I haven't seen it since the theater and it's neat of a re-watch
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: Once is an extraordinary film, because you actually watch people falling in love on camera, like in real time.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: It just happened before.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: There's lots of movies where like these two celebrities fell for each other and while over the course of making it.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_01]: But once is also the story about the making of a love song, which one of these two people who and the song is amazing.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_01]: Hard out there for a pimple hustle and flat hustle and flat because those are both about like the making of a song Yeah, like one song You were trying to get out of where they currently are making it.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's all in both songs or fucking killer And both songs one can't do it
- 51:31[SPEAKER_01]: So boom, yeah, well done.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_00]: You want to get into Academy Award?
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: Make a movie about making a song.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: Perfect.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so glad you included River.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_00]: I love that movie and even had it on my favorites of list and recommendations in the 2024 movie's Z and I sent you at the beginning of the year.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we got Lee sent us that wonderful Z.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, I think gorgeous.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's all right.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's great summer.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, a totally unrelated recommendation since I'm writing to you.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_00]: When you talked about that big, bold, beautiful journey movie with the doors, I'm giving that one a negative review.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: You mentioned Susume, great, but I also thought of another movie with Supernatural doors called Hostel Dimensions, a very low-budget indie from the UK in 2023.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_00]: The poster makes it look like a horror.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_00]: But it's not really.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of a wacky sci-fi with doors that lead to different dimensions.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's really cute and fun and I think you'd have a good time with it.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: And short, somebody's seven minutes.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, bless you.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for all you do Lee in Portland.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_01]: I want to mention this again.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: I've been a while since I've mentioned it.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: But Whitney was trying to come up with the very special feeling.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: A word for the very special feeling that film critics get when you find out a movie is like 90 minutes or less.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's, there's got to be a word for that very specific form of relief.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the word we came up with was a shortened phrase.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_00]: Shorten for it.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_01]: which is a really, really good one.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's always such a headache because we get assigned a lot.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_00]: We both write reviews where we appear on the radio.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_00]: We're given assignments.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes they throw a film at you and it's unexpectedly long.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad I saw it because it's one of my favorite movies of this year, but I was really dismayed to learn that the secret agent was two hours and 40 minutes.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, okay, I'm gonna sit down, my wife has gone to bed, it's about 10 p.m.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_00]: I can knock this thing out, and I'm getting into bed at like 12.40.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I love it.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: Look, if it's bad, it means we're gonna have a very long, long night at the office.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_01]: If it's good, yeah, it'll carry us through, but we can't,
- 53:28[SPEAKER_01]: watch these movies on fast forward.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: So for movies very very long, that's another review we can't write today or another movie we can't watch today.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_01]: And it can't be an issue.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_01]: I do want to give credit however, shortened for it.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_01]: I was, you came up with a concept, but the actual term was co-coined by Simon Thompson.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, some critic is short and there's Simon Thompson.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_01]: We always want to make sure we give credit for what we've done, but shortened for it.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_00]: But please use it with your friends.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and here's another letter.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_00]: This one comes from... Yeeeah.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh
- 54:23[SPEAKER_00]: Very welcome addition to my podcast rotation.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't been on guest episode And that is a machine actually wait Was I on the case episode ever I wasn't How high was I?
- 54:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I mean if it wasn't you I'm glad they found us After then yeah, um
- 54:47[SPEAKER_00]: very welcome to addition to my podcast rotation the mention of big eyes in today's episode on earth a long forgotten memory that i thought to share during high school i would frequent a local coffee shop sitting in the corner drawing in my sketchbook until it was time to go home
- 55:01[SPEAKER_00]: This practice often brought the attention of creepy old men.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: I was a teen girl, so many of them were probably middle-aged, but at the most, but one was older.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't try to chat me up or impress me as the others did.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_00]: He seemed upset at the very sight of me.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_00]: He occasionally glanced over and hrump.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: uh... after he left a person came up to me and asked if I knew who he was then i said uh... i didn't and she asked if i was familiar with those paintings of those kids with the big eyes of course i was they were on the wall of every thrift shop that's him she said
- 55:34[SPEAKER_00]: There was no internet available to me at the time, so I didn't know of his wife or of his scams.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_00]: I had never seen the movie and completely forgot about him until you guys just jogged my brain.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it took him as eyeballing you and giving you the stink eye.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows why he was giving me the stink eye?
- 55:51[SPEAKER_00]: I was probably in his favorite seat, but after hearing the story, I was laughing to myself and imagining him convincing himself not to go down
- 55:57[SPEAKER_00]: Not to go down that road again, and not to pass off a high schoolers art as his own.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_00]: Has this ever happened to you guys watching a movie or show and realize that you've had a small interaction with the subject.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you and take care of Walter Keene's other mirrors.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's an interesting question.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_00]: There's a PS.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_00]: We now also wanted to show my appreciation for your writings on Gilken's Island.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, they've got to do that a lot over on slash home.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_00]: I was such a fan of the show when I was a kid, so much that I accepted an interview for a reality show because I got to meet Russell Johnson.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, that's really cool.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, yeah, that's, uh, who's everyone?
- 56:33[SPEAKER_00]: This is from Walter King's other music.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm imagining Walter King in that coffee shop.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: And just every time he sees a woman drawing, he gets pissed.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's like, ah, I used to steal such good art.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_01]: Oh god, what a fuck you're asshole.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, that's such a weird, that's such a weird intro, that's so fun.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to think that that's ever happened to me.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_00]: There might have been a few moments where I was talking to somebody and like, I knew where they were, like, I knew their work, but I didn't realize I was talking to them.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a screenwriter or something, because I don't know what they might look like.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, ah, that happened to me.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: What happens every once in a while?
- 57:24[SPEAKER_00]: What happens every once in a while?
- 57:25[SPEAKER_00]: Probably would hot tubs.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_00]: I remember seeing like a really ronchy sex comedy Late at night after hours at the movie theater where I worked.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was called Hollywood Hot Tubs 2.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_00]: It was the one with jewel shepherd.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_01]: And that narrows it down.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know that one beef film with all the topless women with jewel shepherd in it?
- 57:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's really specific.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_00]: No, it was...
- 57:50[SPEAKER_00]: It was I forgot the name of the screenwriter, but it actually had like a really kind of fun witty screenplay and it actually had like an interesting story and which is something you wouldn't expect for like this is like someone would effort into it.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like it's how it would hot tub's too educating crystal
- 58:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think that might have been a visual shepherd in that one.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_01]: Probably.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_00]: But there was a really great line of dialogue.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I mentioned this line of dialogue to this guy.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, and he said, yeah, that was me.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, oh, you wrote that.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_00]: We liked that screenplay.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_00]: We watched it late at night.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_00]: We had a wonderful time.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_01]: That screenwriter was Brent Friedman.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_01]: uh... who uh... would go on to produce star trek enterprise for a while oh wow okay um... he also wrote mortal combat annihilation or at least part of it uh... and the uh... nineteen nineties and he was a sci-fi series dark sky so he had a pretty uh... pretty hefty career um...
- 58:57[SPEAKER_01]: Hold on a second.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to remember an in specific movie.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_00]: Well done.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_00]: Well done.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_00]: No, but the line of dialogue because I'm sure our listeners are dying here.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_00]: There's like two sort of older characters.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_00]: I've most of the cast is like, you know, in their early 20s and they're all just sort of bouncing around and having sex with each other.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's two older characters.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_00]: It might be in like their 40s.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_00]: And they get into one of the Hollywood hottubs together.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_00]: And they're trying to sort of romance each other.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_00]: But they're doing in the very, like a much more militively mature way.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_00]: And one of them says, um,
- 59:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going I'm going to come on to you and I need to say yes, or I'm doomed to write bad poetry the rest of my life I don't like that line of dialogue, so I'm interested in that guy and and he said yeah, I was the screenwriter So like that's the first thing that comes to mind.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_01]: I remember I was watching I was watching skin and max relatively recently like been in the last like 15 years And I was watching some naughty movie and I remember thinking myself
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_01]: this is really well written yeah like they're strong distinct characterization and the dialogue is crisp and like the narrative is actually like well thought out and has a theme like you you did not need to go that hard and it turns out to it was um
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_01]: Someone who I got to know for a little bit name Jackie St. James.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_01]: I could just do, um, and genuinely great filmmaker who is just working in the adult industry.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_01]: She just had a lot of talent, and that's where it went.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_01]: And if you ever see some of her, like narrative feature films, they're like, good.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_01]: They're genuinely good.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of those, um,
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_00]: that there are great artists who can only get work.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we can get work.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_00]: When we need another.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_00]: Did you read Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions, for instance?
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, no, I should say that.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Kurt Vonnegut, no, novels with me.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_00]: In Kurt Vonnegut's breakfast champions, he invented the, well, I haven't, this character shows up in several Vonnegut's stories, but kill, kill, gore trout, who's this really brilliant novelist, but he's not recognized because his work can only get published in like porno magazines.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_00]: So the only people who are interested in him are like kind of scouring through all of these old like porno mags, looking for stories.
- 1:01:37[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, the,
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_00]: Very surrealist stories, which are these really complex sci-fi stories with these Heady philosophies and them are like surrounded by all these pornographic images that just have nothing to do with the story So that's
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_00]: That I think is where a lot of great art resides.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to think you're going to have to look at a corner to find some Sometimes it's like you just you don't get that break, but you put everything you have into what you got and you just find this just and that's real outside of art Isn't it it's not like studio film that didn't do great it's like
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_01]: No, someone's actually like out on the fringe putting way more effort into it than you'd ever expect and like making something but spinning strong to gold.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_01]: Basically.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the best.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_01]: Walter King did not do that.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_00]: Walter King just called gold.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_00]: Walter King was a, it wasn't even a plagiarist.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_00]: He just stole it and took credit for it.
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's, that's a plagiarism technically, but like you didn't even like,
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't even do the work of copying it.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_00]: No, he couldn't even be bothered.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_00]: Just like painted over names and wrote his own hair.
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like a fucking asshole.
- 1:02:45[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, there was, when I going into big eyes, I'll remember the story of Walter King, because I was familiar with the core case and everything.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_00]: And at the time the consensus was that Walter and Margaret King,
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_00]: We're both doing paintings.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_00]: Just Margaret was the one who came up with the ideas.
- 1:03:03[SPEAKER_00]: She was the better painter, and he was just sort of imitating her and they were doing it together.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_00]: When the movie came out, it turned out Walter came to it like none of them.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he did nothing.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we mentioned in the Iron List episode that a culminated court case where they were basically were just like, well, let's just prove it.
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get two canvases and some paint, and you both draw a big eyes.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just do it and it did not go well for Walter and it did not go well for Walter God the idea that he's just in a coffee shop somewhere
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like, not being scowled at.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_01]: It just bothers me.
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_01]: Do we have anyone?
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we can definitely.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I think here's a letter from Brandon.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_00]: It says, Dear Bibbs and Whitney, I don't have a question.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_01]: Well, thank you very much.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so thanks for, and I'll keep this brief.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_00]: I just wanted to say thank you to Bibbs for bringing up slash recommending laidback camp on a recent episode.
- 1:04:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, nice.
- 1:04:04[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen precious little anime thus far.
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_00]: For in my movie and TV watching Journey Through Life, but they've sold me on it.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_00]: This show is delightful.
- 1:04:12[SPEAKER_00]: I love it a lot.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Brandon.
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's honestly, that's one of the nicest things you can do to a crowd.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_01]: You can just say, I watched something I wouldn't have watched without you mentioning it or you talking it up.
- 1:04:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I liked it.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_01]: Or even if you didn't like, just here's what I thought.
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's just nice to know that like,
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_01]: someone notices when, like, we point out something that isn't a blockbuster and actually checks it out.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_01]: I've had some people tell me that they saw Lesbian space princess because we talked it up on the podcast.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's a really funny.
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that makes you really, really happy.
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_01]: And just any other time it happens.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I've noticed, this year in particular, I've talked to a lot of people who just aren't into animation, some of them are in the industry.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_01]: And that kind of bothers me.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many wonderful things happening at animation.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_01]: And really, animation is a success story of the year.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_01]: The highest-grossing movie of the year is Nejat, too.
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_00]: Nejat, too.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the demon slayer out-grossed Superman for five seconds.
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think the biggest live-action movie of the year, I think, was Leo and Stitch.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a remake of an animated movie.
- 1:05:24[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I get that there might be a lack of interest in some of the mainstream stuff.
- 1:05:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's very foreclad, it's very, a lot of it's very same, even if it's good.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_01]: But there's wonderful things happening in anime, and there have been since the beginning of anime.
- 1:05:40[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a huge, huge world and if you can find someone to help guide you, I highly recommend it.
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_01]: Someone who knows enough to be able to extrapolate your taste and show you something that's going to blow your mind.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_01]: Not necessarily because it's like awesome, violent, but because it's actually just interesting storytelling.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_01]: media, books, movies, TV show animation doesn't matter, about making movies specifically anime, watch a little series called Keep Your Hands Off at Sukkhan, which is about three teenage girls who just are really into anime and decide to start an anime club, and it turns out they're good at it, but they're not like
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_01]: to good at it and they'll do like a project and they're very like proud of it but then they're watching and they're just like, oh, I fucked up that keyframe, you know, like they're just taking it really, really seriously.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_01]: And that show is also, I would argue, the single best depiction of what a producer actually does.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_01]: there's a lot of hazyness about that, even in the industry, but what a producer who is doing their job well, does is best-effective in the anime series, keep your hands off at some kind.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was only one season, it's like eight episodes or something, but it's absolutely wonderful if you're looking for another recommendation after laid back camp.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's not as laid back because it's a bit more, you know.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're more goal oriented but it's really wonderful.
- 1:07:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I would recommend it to everybody whether you're into anime or not So
- 1:07:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I think that's it for now.
