Transcript
- 0:13Speaker 1: And now, the mob guys, Craig Coyenese.
- 0:26Speaker 2: And Wayne Dolcefino.
- 0:35Speaker 3: On KSV Radio.
- 0:44Speaker 4: KSV Radio, the voice of Texas.
- 0:46Speaker 5: We call ourselves the Mob Guys because we're Italians originally
- 0:50Speaker 5: from the East Coast, but we're both Texans now.
- 0:53Speaker 4: Wayne Dolcefino, the legend.
- 0:55Speaker 5: The multi-Emmy award-winning investigative reporter who's probably doing a bunch
- 0:59Speaker 5: of investigative reporting right now today.
- 1:01Speaker 4: And then me. I am Craig Colonnese. I used to
- 1:04Speaker 4: go by Collins.
- 1:05Speaker 5: I was at Wayne's office yesterday, and he was telling
- 1:08Speaker 5: the story very happily to a couple of people that
- 1:10Speaker 5: were in the room that he changed my name in
- 1:12Speaker 5: just three weeks.
- 1:13Speaker 4: And it's totally true. He definitely did. All right.
- 1:16Speaker 5: I want to play Harry Enten from CNN, who very,
- 1:20Speaker 5: very often is willing to tell the left that there's
- 1:22Speaker 5: a problem. at least when it comes to the data
- 1:24Speaker 5: that he interprets on that channel. I think he's one
- 1:27Speaker 5: of the only people that says true stuff on CNN consistently.
- 1:30Speaker 5: I think some people might stumble into the truth occasionally,
- 1:34Speaker 5: but Scott Jennings and Harry Enten, and Harry doesn't do
- 1:37Speaker 5: this with a political bias.
- 1:39Speaker 4: I mean, Scott is admittedly a conservative.
- 1:41Speaker 5: I don't know exactly what Harry is as their data expert,
- 1:45Speaker 5: but he's very willing to tell them the part they
- 1:47Speaker 5: don't want to hear Here's the latest, at least in
- 1:49Speaker 5: some of the polling and how it looks eerily similar
- 1:52Speaker 5: to how it looked in the past when guess what?
- 1:54Speaker 5: Democrats didn't win all the stuff the polls said they
- 1:57Speaker 5: were going to win. I do love this as far
- 1:59Speaker 5: as an honesty perspective goes, because, yes, this is fool
- 2:03Speaker 5: me once, shame on me or shame on you. Fool
- 2:06Speaker 5: me twice or seven thousand times.
- 2:08Speaker 4: That's going to be shame on me.
- 2:09Speaker 6: Here we go.
- 2:10Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:10Speaker 8: You know, we've had really good Democratic polls coming out
- 2:13Speaker 8: from Ohio, Michigan, Iowa. And, you know, Fool me once,
- 2:18Speaker 8: shame on you. Fool me four times, I just have
- 2:20Speaker 8: to ask the question, could it happen again? Because just
- 2:23Speaker 8: take a look at this. Okay, Midwest polling misses. GOP
- 2:26Speaker 8: outperformed September polls by in the major 2024 races. That is,
- 2:30Speaker 8: President and Senate in the states that had a Senate race.
- 2:32Speaker 8: In Iowa, where the Democrats have been getting really good polls,
- 2:35Speaker 8: Republicans outperformed their September polls by nine points back in 2024.
- 2:38Speaker 9: Shocking.
- 2:38Speaker 8: How about Ohio?
- 2:40Speaker 10: Six points.
- 2:40Speaker 8: How about Michigan? Five points. And I will note that
- 2:43Speaker 8: the leads that the Democrats have in all of these
- 2:46Speaker 8: races right now are under how much the GOP outperformed
- 2:49Speaker 8: back in 2024. So you look at this and you go,
- 2:52Speaker 8: You know what? Maybe we should just hold on a
- 2:55Speaker 8: second here because we've seen this dance before and it
- 2:58Speaker 8: was not a dance that Democrats like when the vote.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Let me interpret that a couple different ways. First and foremost,
- 3:03Speaker 5: and a lot of people, mostly conservatives, I think, say this.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Polls don't matter.
- 3:08Speaker 5: At least they're not a great barometer of the truth.
- 3:10Speaker 5: They're they're an OK projection. It's kind of like the
- 3:14Speaker 5: intern at the weather station because it's not even the
- 3:17Speaker 5: weatherman who's going to get stuff right a little bit
- 3:19Speaker 5: more often than the intern is. It's the new person,
- 3:22Speaker 5: the person right out of college. They're trying pretty hard.
- 3:25Speaker 5: They're reading the maps the way they can, seeing all
- 3:27Speaker 5: the different formations of clouds, and they're guessing. That's what
- 3:30Speaker 5: polling is up until a couple weeks before the actual election.
- 3:34Speaker 5: And this is another admission of that, especially when it
- 3:38Speaker 5: comes to polls that project Republicans to do poorly. They
- 3:41Speaker 5: outperform them in every single state, in Iowa by nine,
- 3:44Speaker 5: Ohio by six, Michigan by five. And it is also
- 3:49Speaker 5: interesting that, that Harry goes a step further and says
- 3:51Speaker 5: all of the current leads that polling data is claiming
- 3:55Speaker 5: Democrats have over Republicans in these places is within these
- 3:58Speaker 5: margins of error, which are additional than just the regular
- 4:01Speaker 5: margin of error that also exists in every single poll,
- 4:04Speaker 5: because this is how much better these Republicans do.
- 4:07Speaker 4: I'm fascinated by this.
- 4:09Speaker 5: And I love that Harry is telling the CNN people,
- 4:12Speaker 5: although I kind of don't totally love that because that
- 4:14Speaker 5: might make more Democrats go out and vote.
- 4:16Speaker 4: I need the Republicans to show up and vote.
- 4:18Speaker 5: I need people on the side that want to protect
- 4:21Speaker 5: all the things we actually care about to make sure
- 4:23Speaker 5: and protect them. But I think that this is essentially
- 4:26Speaker 5: what we will be seeing here in Texas. It'll be,
- 4:29Speaker 5: you know, Beto 2.0, but slightly different. A lot of
- 4:33Speaker 5: people talk about our Senate race in this state. And
- 4:36Speaker 5: they say that, you know, Beto was never really winning
- 4:39Speaker 5: the way that Tallarico seems to be beating Paxton throughout
- 4:42Speaker 5: that campaign. He was doing quite well compared to historical
- 4:45Speaker 5: averages of Democrats in statewide races and polling up until
- 4:51Speaker 5: Beto ran. But it wasn't Beto ran, but it wasn't
- 4:55Speaker 5: the same thing as it is now, which projects a
- 4:58Speaker 5: win for Tallarico.
- 4:59Speaker 4: And even some of the.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Betting markets, the calci's of the world, are giving the
- 5:04Speaker 5: edge to Tallarico. I think we're going to see the
- 5:07Speaker 5: opposite actually occur. And this might be one of those
- 5:10Speaker 5: reasons why another leaked video has come from a Tallarico's
- 5:16Speaker 5: church and a person pretending to be a radical leftist
- 5:20Speaker 5: member of it, talking to other radical leftist members.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Is this the pastors anymore?
- 5:24Speaker 11: No.
- 5:25Speaker 5: We've had tons of leaked audio, and I can play
- 5:27Speaker 5: some of it, of some of the crazy things some
- 5:28Speaker 5: of the pastors are saying. His current pastor, some of
- 5:32Speaker 5: the other ones. These are just the people that also
- 5:34Speaker 5: go to the church. This is a place that Talafrico
- 5:37Speaker 5: loves to be. He loves to be in this world. Here,
- 5:40Speaker 5: let's play a little bit of that. Not even a Christian.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I keep forgetting it's a church.
- 5:58Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 5:58Speaker 4: No, it's really a cult, but it's.
- 6:00Speaker 13: A fun cult.
- 6:01Speaker 14: Uh, what?
- 6:01Speaker 4: In good ways, not bad.
- 6:03Speaker 2: What?
- 6:03Speaker 4: It's one of those, you can drink the Kool-Aid safely.
- 6:06Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 6: I'm kidding.
- 6:07Speaker 9: A little red for you.
- 6:09Speaker 5: That doesn't kill anyone.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Some people that are members are Republican.
- 6:13Speaker 11: Oh, really?
- 6:13Speaker 4: Yeah. There's not that many.
- 6:15Speaker 16: Well, I guess they must be like a different brand
- 6:19Speaker 16: of Republican.
- 6:20Speaker 17: Maybe.
- 6:20Speaker 18: Like the old school.
- 6:21Speaker 10: Yeah, I have to imagine them going.
- 6:25Speaker 5: You know what's so weird to me? It's so weird
- 6:27Speaker 5: that people at a church would talk about stuff like that. Like,
- 6:30Speaker 5: shouldn't it not matter? But when I go to church,
- 6:32Speaker 5: the last thing I think about here in Houston is
- 6:34Speaker 5: if people are Republican or Democrat. I check my politics
- 6:38Speaker 5: at the door at church, not because I have to.
- 6:40Speaker 5: I think Texas Faith Fest was trying to instill in
- 6:43Speaker 5: a lot of people, myself included, that maybe we don't
- 6:45Speaker 5: have to do that as much as we've done it before.
- 6:47Speaker 4: But I still do.
- 6:48Speaker 5: I just don't care about the person sitting next to
- 6:52Speaker 5: me's politics saying, when we're sitting through a Catholic mass.
- 6:56Speaker 4: I don't know why I'm supposed to care about that.
- 6:58Speaker 5: And it's amazing to hear these people at this church
- 7:00Speaker 5: that Talafrico loves to go to, like being surprised there's
- 7:03Speaker 5: some Republicans among them. I would tell you that from
- 7:07Speaker 5: a data standpoint, even in a place like Austin, there's
- 7:10Speaker 5: a chance there's more than you think. No matter what
- 7:13Speaker 5: number you think are there, there's a chance there's even more.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Let's get to Bart.
- 7:16Speaker 5: Bart's calling in from Spring about the, is this the
- 7:20Speaker 5: Senate debate that you want to talk about?
- 7:23Speaker 14: No, they had a debate on with Piers Morgan Live
- 7:27Speaker 14: between Victor Davis Hanson and Richard Wolff.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Did you get a chance.
- 7:31Speaker 14: To see any of that?
- 7:32Speaker 4: I saw a clip of it. I didn't watch the
- 7:34Speaker 4: whole thing. What did you think of it?
- 7:35Speaker 14: Oh, it was classic to see somebody logically present points
- 7:41Speaker 14: that went against the college indoctrination, and all he could
- 7:45Speaker 14: do is insult and interrupt, and it was typical because
- 7:49Speaker 14: he had nothing to stand on, and he blamed every
- 7:52Speaker 14: fact— as being a lie or that he was being
- 7:55Speaker 14: cherry picked.
- 7:55Speaker 12: Of course.
- 7:56Speaker 14: I was just a classic debate by Victor David Hanson.
- 8:00Speaker 14: He finally turns to Pierce Morgan and said, this is
- 8:03Speaker 14: a debate. This is what you need to get educated.
- 8:08Speaker 14: And he's the chair of the history department at Stanford.
- 8:11Speaker 5: That is the clip that I do have. Maybe if
- 8:14Speaker 5: you were a little more educated, you'd learn it thing.
- 8:17Speaker 5: I don't know. I only saw portions of this clip.
- 8:20Speaker 5: I don't know if there's any bad words in it,
- 8:21Speaker 5: because I know it's on his podcast, The Uncensored One.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Do you remember, Bart? You watched it. Did they say
- 8:26Speaker 4: anything inappropriate? No, I didn't hear any bad words.
- 8:29Speaker 5: You know what, Bart? We're going to do the thing
- 8:31Speaker 5: we do when you call in. You're going to call
- 8:32Speaker 5: for a clip, and we're going to play a clip.
- 8:35Speaker 5: from listener part. You're awesome, too. This is Piers Morgan
- 8:39Speaker 5: in the debate you were just describing and how one
- 8:42Speaker 5: of the two people, even though he is an educator
- 8:44Speaker 5: at a fancy university, seems to be an idiot about
- 8:48Speaker 5: educational statistics.
- 8:49Speaker 19: The American empire, if that's the term, and we were
- 8:52Speaker 19: not a colonial empire.
- 8:55Speaker 19: Is not in decline, it's in ascendance relative to the EU,
- 9:00Speaker 19: relative to our neighbors to the north, Canada, relative to Russia,
- 9:03Speaker 19: relative to... I didn't cherry-pick those statistics, that's just a fact. Yes,
- 9:08Speaker 19: you did. No, if you want to say that the
- 9:11Speaker 19: GDP figures are wrong, you tell me. But as for
- 9:15Speaker 19: here in America.
- 9:17Speaker 11: Let me tell you.
- 9:19Speaker 19: I didn't interrupt you, please.
- 9:20Speaker 11: No, no. Look, I let you say three or four things.
- 9:24Speaker 4: That were reasonable.
- 9:25Speaker 19: You talked a lot longer than I did.
- 9:27Speaker 4: You talked a lot.
- 9:27Speaker 11: I have to answer the question.
- 9:29Speaker 2: That's another cherry pick.
- 9:31Speaker 11: It's not the length.
- 9:32Speaker 2: It's really the substance that matters.
- 9:34Speaker 11: You might learn that.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Maybe if you were a little bit more educated, you'd
- 9:39Speaker 2: learn it. I'm a professor of economics. I study economic history.
- 9:44Speaker 2: One of the things we study is economic development. There
- 9:48Speaker 2: is no country on earth in the history of our
- 9:53Speaker 2: race that has developed its economy faster, further than the
- 9:59Speaker 2: people's representation.
- 10:00Speaker 11: Of China. Whatever you want to play games, that is
- 10:04Speaker 11: the reality. For the last 40 years, The average growth
- 10:09Speaker 11: of GDP in China has been between six and.
- 10:11Speaker 19: I didn't question that.
- 10:13Speaker 20: I didn't say that.
- 10:14Speaker 6: Oh, no.
- 10:14Speaker 11: Come on.
- 10:15Speaker 21: Fight it.
- 10:15Speaker 11: Fight it each other.
- 10:17Speaker 4: I love it.
- 10:18Speaker 5: This is probably how I debate, too. That's probably why
- 10:20Speaker 5: I like it so much. Bart, what else did you
- 10:21Speaker 5: want to say about that?
- 10:23Speaker 14: Well, yeah, he should have pointed out that Hitler, under
- 10:26Speaker 14: a totalitarian, raised his country's GDP faster than China did.
- 10:31Speaker 9: He did.
- 10:31Speaker 14: If you want to encourage totalitarianism. Right. Later on, he
- 10:35Speaker 14: goes on and really destroys this guy because Hansen is
- 10:39Speaker 14: the professor emeritus of history at Stanford.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Yes.
- 10:42Speaker 14: And I'm like, tell him he needs to get educated.
- 10:46Speaker 4: It's amazing.
- 10:46Speaker 14: I just thought I'd add the clip.
- 10:48Speaker 21: Thanks for playing it.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Of course. No, Bart, I love that. You call in,
- 10:51Speaker 4: you mention a clip, and I usually have it, so
- 10:53Speaker 4: I just play it. You get to call some clips out.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Thanks so much, man. Nothing else you want to talk about?
- 10:58Speaker 14: Well, I do want to mention that in the past,
- 11:00Speaker 14: especially under Obama, these leftists have been able to portray
- 11:04Speaker 14: themselves as moderates. And they've been able to distance things
- 11:08Speaker 14: like a Reverend Wright saying, I never heard him say
- 11:11Speaker 14: goddamn America. And I'm like, yes, you did. You were
- 11:14Speaker 14: there 20 years. They just lied. But with Tallarico, and
- 11:18Speaker 14: he's doing the same thing, pretending to be a moderate
- 11:20Speaker 14: when he's a far leftist. We have clips and evidence
- 11:23Speaker 14: to show he's just lying.
- 11:25Speaker 5: We have a ridiculous amount of clips. Thanks so much
- 11:26Speaker 5: for the call, Bart. I really appreciate it. We'll take
- 11:28Speaker 5: a quick break. My cousin Vinny is coming up next.
- 11:31Speaker 5: He is the host of the Vince Colonese or Vince show.
- 11:34Speaker 5: on KSEV and a bunch of other places nationally syndicated
- 11:37Speaker 5: all over. But the Vince show, 12 o'clock to 1
- 11:41Speaker 5: every day right here on KSEV. We will probably talk
- 11:44Speaker 5: even more about Talafrico. And my cousin does deserve the
- 11:47Speaker 5: credit for coining the name. Everybody was calling him Talawacko,
- 11:51Speaker 5: and Vince went a different way, and I'll give him
- 11:53Speaker 5: credit again in just a few minutes on The Voice
- 11:55Speaker 5: of Texas.

- 14:55Speaker 5: with this intro. It is the voice of Texas. My
- 14:58Speaker 5: name is Craig Colonese. My next guest is my cousin, Vinny.
- 15:03Speaker 5: My cousin, Vinny. Everybody seems to enjoy that. Vince Colonese,
- 15:06Speaker 5: who's on from 12 to 1 o'clock every day on
- 15:08Speaker 5: this radio station.
- 15:09Speaker 4: How you doing, buddy?
- 15:11Speaker 10: I'm so good.
- 15:12Speaker 21: Good morning.
- 15:13Speaker 4: Good morning.
- 15:13Speaker 5: I gave you credit simply just like a few minutes
- 15:16Speaker 5: ago for coining Talafrico because everybody else was going Talawaco
- 15:20Speaker 5: and you wanted a different thing. And it became the
- 15:22Speaker 5: thing that stuck. I just want to make sure that
- 15:24Speaker 5: you know that I'm throwing the credit out there for you.
- 15:27Speaker 10: I really appreciate that. I don't mandate that people give
- 15:30Speaker 10: me credit.
- 15:31Speaker 4: But man, I love it. Well, look, you had a
- 15:34Speaker 4: great interview with Vice President J.D.
- 15:36Speaker 5: Vance earlier this week. We played the entirety of it
- 15:39Speaker 5: on this radio station. And you did say that you
- 15:42Speaker 5: call him Talafrico. And I saw the vice president did
- 15:44Speaker 5: not react like he didn't try to take credit away
- 15:47Speaker 5: from you.
- 15:47Speaker 4: So that was good.
- 15:49Speaker 5: Can you talk to me a little bit about some
- 15:50Speaker 5: of the other stuff? I know everybody who listened to
- 15:52Speaker 5: it heard it, and I want to play portions of
- 15:54Speaker 5: it on this show. But tell me some of the
- 15:56Speaker 5: stuff that you most took away from that conversation.
- 15:59Speaker 10: Well, I thought he was great. You know what I
- 16:01Speaker 10: love about him? As a guy, you've experienced this. You
- 16:04Speaker 10: interview people, and you can kind of tell when they're
- 16:05Speaker 10: trying to spin you and super guarded when they're trying
- 16:08Speaker 10: to stick to the talking points. That's not J.D.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Vance.
- 16:11Speaker 10: You know, the cool thing about the vice president, extremely,
- 16:14Speaker 10: extremely candid on all of the subjects. We talked about–
- 16:18Speaker 10: I thought one of the– I thought the newsiest elements
- 16:22Speaker 10: was when I was asking him about the Safe America
- 16:24Speaker 10: Act and what it's going to take to actually pass
- 16:28Speaker 10: election integrity nationwide. And there's something that I've heard really frequently,
- 16:33Speaker 10: which is like J.D. Vance is the president of the Senate,
- 16:36Speaker 10: which is true. Why can't he just take over the
- 16:39Speaker 10: floor of the Senate and fire everybody, fire the parliamentarian,
- 16:42Speaker 10: get rid of John Soons? forced the Save America Act through.
- 16:45Speaker 10: Why isn't he using his constitutional powers? And so I
- 16:49Speaker 10: figured rather than try and explain it to everybody, I
- 16:51Speaker 10: would just ask him because I had the opportunity.
- 16:53Speaker 4: And so I did.
- 16:54Speaker 10: And the answer he gave me I thought was really
- 16:57Speaker 10: interesting because for a million reasons. One, he straight up
- 17:00Speaker 10: disclosed that he had been wargaming that very strategy with
- 17:04Speaker 10: the president of the United States.
- 17:06Speaker 4: I know.
- 17:06Speaker 10: These are details he's never shared before.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Huge breaking news. And nobody covered it other than you, Vince.
- 17:12Speaker 8: Continue.
- 17:13Speaker 16: No.
- 17:14Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 17:14Speaker 10: No, it's like it was crazy. Well, I spent so
- 17:17Speaker 10: much time attacking the legacy press.
- 17:18Speaker 21: They probably do.
- 17:19Speaker 10: They refuse to talk about that.
- 17:21Speaker 21: That's true.
- 17:22Speaker 5: No, but I thought I thought that that was an
- 17:24Speaker 5: incredible moment. Not only did you get him to acknowledge
- 17:26Speaker 5: the plan and the flaw of the plan, but you
- 17:28Speaker 5: heard him and then you followed up with. Are you
- 17:31Speaker 5: saying that you and President Trump have sat down and
- 17:32Speaker 5: he's like, yes, that was incredible.
- 17:34Speaker 6: I'm sorry.
- 17:34Speaker 4: I didn't mean to interrupt you, but I totally agree
- 17:36Speaker 4: with that.
- 17:37Speaker 10: Continue. I thought it was great. And then the other
- 17:40Speaker 10: big thing, which is very unusual in Washington, is he
- 17:42Speaker 10: started naming names from his own party. He was like, yeah,
- 17:46Speaker 10: there's four Republican senators who would make this impossible because
- 17:50Speaker 10: they would join with Democrats and overturn whatever I do.
- 17:52Speaker 10: And then he said that it would be McConnell, it
- 17:54Speaker 10: would be Murkowski, it would be Tillis, and it would
- 17:57Speaker 10: be Cornyn. And then, boom, there you go. And so
- 18:00Speaker 10: this would have been ceremonial. And we're not interested in
- 18:02Speaker 10: ceremonial gestures. We're actually interested in victory. So- This is
- 18:06Speaker 10: all a long way of saying that he needs backup.
- 18:08Speaker 10: We need to send real conservatives to Washington. We need
- 18:12Speaker 10: Ken Paxton to defeat Talifrico. And we need people to
- 18:15Speaker 10: go in there so they can stick the landing on
- 18:18Speaker 10: some more elements of this agenda that really matters. And
- 18:21Speaker 10: that's a role that the voters can play.
- 18:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought it was really interesting that he dropped
- 18:24Speaker 5: the name John Cornyn because a lot of Texans would
- 18:26Speaker 5: feel that way. And this is kind of the macro
- 18:28Speaker 5: question for you and one that I'm hearing a lot
- 18:31Speaker 5: from people talking about the Senate race here in Texas.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Some people are like, I don't like this about Paxton
- 18:37Speaker 5: and his background or something that he was accused of
- 18:39Speaker 5: doing that, granted, our own Senate acquitted him of. But
- 18:43Speaker 5: what I always say in response is you want someone
- 18:45Speaker 5: that's going to stand with you at the toughest moments.
- 18:48Speaker 5: You don't want the Republican politician who's just going to
- 18:50Speaker 5: vote with other Republicans on the easy stuff. You want
- 18:53Speaker 5: the person that's the polar opposite of Cornyn, who is
- 18:56Speaker 5: not going to stand in the way of things exactly
- 18:58Speaker 5: like Protect America or Save America, as far as that
- 19:01Speaker 5: act goes. And I think it's fascinating because Paxton, as
- 19:05Speaker 5: an attorney general, has proven his willingness to attack the
- 19:08Speaker 5: hard stuff and to stand on a certain side of
- 19:11Speaker 5: the discussion on the hard stuff and also to win.
- 19:14Speaker 5: So if there is one thing I think we want
- 19:16Speaker 5: in today's society from our representatives, certainly our senators, but
- 19:20Speaker 5: a lot of them, is to actually stand with us
- 19:22Speaker 5: when it matters most, and that's when you see the
- 19:25Speaker 5: rhinos wilt the hardest, including Cornyn. Is that something that
- 19:29Speaker 5: you think was basically the sentiment of that conversation, too,
- 19:33Speaker 5: is we really need to crystallize the desires we have
- 19:38Speaker 5: for people to vote for us in the Senate on
- 19:41Speaker 5: a very small amount of topics?
- 19:43Speaker 6: Go ahead.
- 19:44Speaker 10: We just need more fighters.
- 19:45Speaker 21: That's it.
- 19:46Speaker 14: Ken Paxton's definitely one.
- 19:47Speaker 10: If you like President Trump, which I do, and if
- 19:50Speaker 10: you voted for him enthusiastically through multiple elections, you should
- 19:53Speaker 10: trust his judgment on Ken Paxton. He keeps saying it
- 19:55Speaker 10: because he's the best attorney general in the country. And
- 19:57Speaker 10: now he wants him to be in the United States
- 19:59Speaker 10: Senate to offer him backup there. That'd be wonderful. Also,
- 20:02Speaker 10: Ken Paxton, to be clear, and you know this better
- 20:04Speaker 10: than anybody, he's very battle-tested. The guy's been through it.
- 20:08Speaker 10: He's faced the forces of the institution that have tried
- 20:11Speaker 10: to suffocate him, including in the Texas state legislature, a
- 20:14Speaker 10: lot of the drama around Ken Paxton is because you
- 20:18Speaker 10: had establishment forces who were trying to hurt him and
- 20:21Speaker 10: that had nothing to actually do with merit and everything
- 20:23Speaker 10: to do with trying to prevent him from being that
- 20:26Speaker 10: kind of outside voice that could affect positive change. So, look,
- 20:30Speaker 10: I think the case for Ken Paxton is super strong,
- 20:32Speaker 10: and I think the case against James Salafrico is extraordinarily strong.
- 20:35Speaker 10: I mean, it's so obvious that that the people of
- 20:37Speaker 10: Texas shouldn't have a guy who straight up says he
- 20:40Speaker 10: hates Christianity, hates Christians, who hates the energy industry, that
- 20:45Speaker 10: all of these things which make up, which literally are
- 20:48Speaker 10: the composition of the good people of Texas, the guy
- 20:50Speaker 10: should not represent them in the Senate.
- 20:51Speaker 4: No, he can't represent them in the Senate.
- 20:53Speaker 5: And actually what's more amazing is the gift that keeps
- 20:55Speaker 5: on giving that's all the hidden camera videos that are
- 20:58Speaker 5: coming out of his church, whether it's the pastors, the
- 21:01Speaker 5: participants of the church who describe themselves as not even
- 21:04Speaker 5: really being religious.
- 21:05Speaker 4: Like that church seems nuts.
- 21:07Speaker 5: And the most recent one is where they're calling themselves
- 21:09Speaker 5: a cult, sort of happily, to someone that's doing a video.
- 21:12Speaker 5: I also saw— go ahead, go ahead.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Respond to that.
- 21:16Speaker 10: I just— on that point, I just— like, all these videos— so what
- 21:18Speaker 10: have we learned about this church? That they don't know
- 21:23Speaker 10: whether or not Jesus even existed. If he did exist,
- 21:26Speaker 10: he didn't die for us, and they're pretty sure the
- 21:28Speaker 10: resurrection didn't literally happen. So other than those things, they're Christians, right?
- 21:33Speaker 15: Ha ha ha!
- 21:34Speaker 10: Like, yeah, other than a couple of things in the totality,
- 21:38Speaker 10: other than the totality of the Christian faith, they're entirely
- 21:41Speaker 10: the most important.
- 21:42Speaker 5: OK, anyway, I wanted to ask you one other thing, too.
- 21:45Speaker 5: And then I have a veteran voice coming up. And
- 21:47Speaker 5: after 830, I talked to a local veteran for a
- 21:50Speaker 5: half hour commercial interrupted every Friday at 830. I love
- 21:53Speaker 5: doing that. And I think you'd appreciate it, too, as
- 21:56Speaker 5: a guy from a military family. But I did want
- 21:59Speaker 5: to ask you, Harry Enten put out another piece of
- 22:02Speaker 5: whatever data.
- 22:03Speaker 4: From yesterday, and I just played the audio.
- 22:05Speaker 5: A little bit ago, that says that Republicans in this
- 22:08Speaker 5: state outperform polls by this number, in this state by
- 22:11Speaker 5: this number, and all of the polling that suggests that
- 22:13Speaker 5: there's going to be a giant blue wave is within
- 22:16Speaker 5: these margins to which Republicans do better than polls typically
- 22:19Speaker 5: say they will. What is your take, now that it's October,
- 22:23Speaker 5: getting closer and closer to the midterm elections, on the
- 22:25Speaker 5: likelihood or lack of likelihood of an actual blue wave?
- 22:30Speaker 10: I think people come alive every day that we get
- 22:32Speaker 10: closer to the election. I think their awareness is skyrocketing
- 22:36Speaker 10: right now. And I think that what we're about to
- 22:39Speaker 10: go through is going to be a very real and
- 22:41Speaker 10: tough battle, but it is in no way a fait accompli.
- 22:44Speaker 10: This is not over. The Republicans have an extraordinary chance
- 22:48Speaker 10: to not only keep the Senate, but the House as well.
- 22:51Speaker 10: And I would love to see them just come into
- 22:53Speaker 10: this with all the energy in the world in order
- 22:55Speaker 10: to grow their numbers. The key is when you're– just
- 22:59Speaker 10: in terms of voter enthusiasm, you always want to kind
- 23:01Speaker 10: of feel like you're a little bit behind, like you
- 23:03Speaker 10: want to come into it like you're a point down.
- 23:06Speaker 10: But this is a real fight, and I think Harry Enten,
- 23:11Speaker 10: the numbers enthusiast over at CNN, when he talks about
- 23:14Speaker 10: these numbers, I think he's doing it in an unvarnished way.
- 23:16Speaker 10: He's just being real about it. He's like, guys, the
- 23:19Speaker 10: polls always get this wrong. The polls always underappreciate Republican enthusiasm,
- 23:25Speaker 10: Republican turnout. And so I hope I hope Democrats go
- 23:29Speaker 10: into Election Day sleepwalking, thinking that they have this thing
- 23:32Speaker 10: in the bag, because that's.
- 23:33Speaker 21: A great situation.
- 23:34Speaker 4: One last thing I want to ask you about your
- 23:35Speaker 4: own show.
- 23:36Speaker 5: You've interviewed the president of the United States, the vice
- 23:38Speaker 5: president of the United States. Who is on your list
- 23:41Speaker 5: of people that you actually want to have on the show?
- 23:43Speaker 5: And I'm just curious if there's any like dream list
- 23:45Speaker 5: of guests that you haven't had on yet.
- 23:48Speaker 10: Oh, well, maybe the pope someday. Actually, candidly. You know, candidly,
- 23:54Speaker 10: we're trying for Secretary Rubio. It's actually been kind of
- 23:57Speaker 10: a long winded process. I've been trying to get the
- 23:59Speaker 10: secretary of state on from the early days of the show.
- 24:02Speaker 10: But we'll we'll keep plugging away. I think, you know,
- 24:04Speaker 10: every time I add one of these guys to the list,
- 24:06Speaker 10: I figure, OK, this could increase my odds because they're like, no,
- 24:08Speaker 10: this guy's legit. We could be on with him.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it does.
- 24:11Speaker 5: I've had Doug Burgum on so far in the start
- 24:13Speaker 5: of this show. That's as far as I've gotten with
- 24:15Speaker 5: the administration.
- 24:16Speaker 11: But he is great.
- 24:18Speaker 4: And I'm not trying to discredit Doug Burgum.
- 24:20Speaker 5: I hope his team is telling them that there's another
- 24:22Speaker 5: colonies out there who likes them as well.
- 24:25Speaker 4: But all right.
- 24:26Speaker 10: By the way, it's not just.
- 24:27Speaker 21: The caliber of the interview, which is great.
- 24:29Speaker 10: He is a high profile secretary. He's got a massive portfolio.
- 24:32Speaker 10: But he's also that's another guy who's very candid. And yes,
- 24:35Speaker 10: it makes for a great interview.
- 24:37Speaker 4: Look at you giving praise to me. Thank you, Vince.
- 24:40Speaker 5: The Vince show every day from 12 to 1 on
- 24:42Speaker 5: this radio station. A three hour thing that you can
- 24:45Speaker 5: get the rest of on all kinds of social media
- 24:47Speaker 5: and other places.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Crushing it. You are crushing it, sir. Thank you for
- 24:50Speaker 4: making some time with us today.
- 24:52Speaker 10: Thanks, Greg.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Talk to you later. That is Vince, as I said,
- 24:56Speaker 4: my cousin, who's doing an amazing job.
- 24:58Speaker 5: And I'm starting to a little bit less apologetically glow
- 25:01Speaker 5: about the awesomeness of that show because I listen to
- 25:03Speaker 5: it at least.
- 25:03Speaker 4: An hour of it every day now. All right. Quick break.
- 25:06Speaker 5: A lot more coming up, including our veteran voices segment.
- 25:09Speaker 5: I did see we got some calls in line. I'm
- 25:11Speaker 5: not sure outside of our guests that we'll be able
- 25:14Speaker 5: to get to Frederick or anyone else. So thank you
- 25:16Speaker 5: to those people for calling in. But John will be
- 25:18Speaker 5: next in just a bit on The Voice of Texas.
- 25:45Speaker 22: What kind of home do you live in?
- 25:47Speaker 4: We live in a two-bedroom high-rise condo.
- 25:49Speaker 5: A three-bedroom family home.
- 25:51Speaker 9: In the suburbs.
- 25:52Speaker 20: A farmhouse on our family ranch passed down through generations.
- 25:57Speaker 22: It doesn't matter where you live or what kind of
- 25:59Speaker 22: home you have. You all have one thing in common.
- 26:02Speaker 22: Gina Hinojosa voted to increase your property taxes. Not once,
- 26:07Speaker 22: not twice, but 40 different times Gina Hinojosa voted to
- 26:11Speaker 22: raise your property taxes. If she has her way, you'll
- 26:15Speaker 22: be priced out of your own home. Gina Hinojosa is
- 26:18Speaker 22: too radical to be governor of Texas. Luckily, Governor Greg
- 26:23Speaker 22: Abbott has a better plan.
- 26:25Speaker 16: We have to stop the insanity and instead give you
- 26:29Speaker 16: a different property tax relief that will do more than
- 26:32Speaker 16: cut your property tax bill in half forever. You're going
- 26:36Speaker 16: to be able to live in your home for the
- 26:37Speaker 16: rest of your lives without being priced out of it.
- 26:40Speaker 22: Greg Abbott, governor.
- 26:42Speaker 21: Political ad paid for by Texans for Greg Abbott.

- 27:01Speaker 7: I've been talking for years about Chip Beresford and the

- 27:07Speaker 7: difficult times, the death of a loved one. Now Chip

- 28:17Speaker 6: From the KSEV Weather Center, this afternoon expect mostly cloudy
- 28:20Speaker 6: skies with a few showers and a thunderstorm making it
- 28:23Speaker 6: feel humid. Be cautious as heavy downpours may lead to
- 28:25Speaker 6: temporary flooding on roads and in areas with poor drainage.
- 28:28Speaker 6: The high will reach 90. Tonight, the skies will remain
- 28:30Speaker 6: cloudy and humidity will persist with a chance of a thunderstorm.
- 28:33Speaker 6: The low will be around 74. Tomorrow will bring a
- 28:35Speaker 6: mix of clouds and sun along with humidity, showers, and
- 28:38Speaker 6: the possibility of a strong thunderstorm. The high temperature will
- 28:41Speaker 6: be 87. With the KSEV Weather Center forecast, I'm AccuWeather
- 28:44Speaker 6: meteorologist Joe Lundberg.
- 28:58Speaker 4: KSEV Radio.
- 29:00Speaker 14: KSEV Morning Show.
- 29:01Speaker 4: I am Craig Colonese.
- 29:03Speaker 5: Wayne Del Trofino is on special assignment. I am glad
- 29:06Speaker 5: that we're still doing this every Friday. I really, really
- 29:08Speaker 5: wanted to do this, even when we moved from the
- 29:11Speaker 5: evenings to the morning show about a month ago now,
- 29:14Speaker 5: which is crazy. It's a veteran voices discussion. It's a
- 29:17Speaker 5: half hour commercial free. We probably need to get a
- 29:20Speaker 5: sponsor for it. So I don't keep begging the people
- 29:23Speaker 5: behind the glass to get rid of the commercials for us.
- 29:25Speaker 5: We probably need somebody to help us with that part.
- 29:27Speaker 5: But we'll figure that out at some point. John Swatt
- 29:29Speaker 5: is our guest. John Swatt is a U.S. Army veteran.
- 29:33Speaker 5: He's deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He's also an incredible
- 29:37Speaker 5: musician who's going to be given an award at the
- 29:39Speaker 5: Country Music Awards of Texas Award Show that's coming up
- 29:43Speaker 5: on October 14th.
- 29:45Speaker 4: John, welcome to the show.
- 29:47Speaker 21: Hey, thanks, Craig, for having me. It's a real honor.
- 29:50Speaker 4: Thrilled. It's an honor. The honor's mine, sir.
- 29:53Speaker 5: So first, I will ask you, if you don't mind,
- 29:54Speaker 5: just give me, even though I said it, the branch
- 29:57Speaker 5: of the military, the you know, title you had when
- 29:59Speaker 5: you retired from the military, all that stuff?
- 30:02Speaker 21: Sure, yeah. I was in the United States Army. I
- 30:06Speaker 21: was stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, at 3rd Infantry Division,
- 30:11Speaker 21: 1st Brigade, 41st Field Artillery Battalion. So, of course, I
- 30:16Speaker 21: got to deal with some of the big guns. I
- 30:19Speaker 21: was the unit supply sergeant with my rank, and so
- 30:24Speaker 21: I kind of help take care of everybody if they
- 30:26Speaker 21: ever needed anything. And I did two tours overseas in Iraq.
- 30:30Speaker 21: The first was into Crete, and the second was in Ramadi.
- 30:34Speaker 21: And I was deployed both times with that unit.
- 30:37Speaker 4: So I got an email.
- 30:38Speaker 5: The way that you even got on the show, by
- 30:40Speaker 5: the way, is I put something up on social media,
- 30:41Speaker 5: and I got an email from a Gold Star mother.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Her name is Tracy.
- 30:45Speaker 5: And in the email, she said, one of the biggest
- 30:47Speaker 5: things that you do, even after serving our country in
- 30:50Speaker 5: a combat role in Iraqi freedom, is you came home
- 30:54Speaker 5: and you wanted to continue serving. And I love the
- 30:57Speaker 5: way that Tracy put it in the email. It's about
- 30:58Speaker 5: continuing to serve after the uniform comes off through time, music,
- 31:03Speaker 5: and heart, which you give to veterans, Gold Star families,
- 31:06Speaker 5: families of the fallen and survivors. Can you talk about
- 31:11Speaker 5: the impact that you're having with people like Tracy, with
- 31:13Speaker 5: Gold Star mothers, and what you're doing to actually reach
- 31:16Speaker 5: out to them?
- 31:18Speaker 21: You know, first and foremost, I just want to say
- 31:21Speaker 21: thank you to Tracy. That meant so much to me,
- 31:23Speaker 21: her putting that out there. And, you know, that just
- 31:26Speaker 21: hits me to the heart. You know, it is such
- 31:29Speaker 21: a relief to see the impact that you have. You're
- 31:33Speaker 21: not really aware of it until you kind of meet
- 31:35Speaker 21: the people. You know, it's a way for us to
- 31:38Speaker 21: not only connect with the Gold Star families, of course,
- 31:41Speaker 21: and the veterans, but to also connect those people together
- 31:46Speaker 21: because we all have something in common. And Fortunately enough
- 31:50Speaker 21: for me, music is the universal– I call it the
- 31:54Speaker 21: universal medication for everybody because music can bring all kinds
- 31:58Speaker 21: of people together and get those conversations started, get those
- 32:02Speaker 21: people to interact and get to know each other because
- 32:05Speaker 21: we all share some of the same stories.
- 32:08Speaker 4: So how long have you been a musician? How long
- 32:09Speaker 4: have you been singing country music?
- 32:12Speaker 21: I have been singing all the way back since I
- 32:14Speaker 21: was knee-high to a grasshopper. Okay. I used to. My
- 32:20Speaker 21: mom actually got me started off. She's actually a better
- 32:22Speaker 21: singer than I am. So I would sing along with her,
- 32:26Speaker 21: of course, to the radio and we'd go out and
- 32:28Speaker 21: I'd harmonize. I did the choir when, of course, when
- 32:32Speaker 21: I was in school. But then afterwards, you know, considering
- 32:37Speaker 21: the time, it was right around 9-11. And of course, everybody,
- 32:41Speaker 21: you know, knows right around that time how that impacted
- 32:45Speaker 21: so many people's lives, including my own. And so I
- 32:48Speaker 21: kind of felt that pull to join and to serve
- 32:52Speaker 21: my country and do my part. And, of course, I
- 32:55Speaker 21: brought my music flavor with me, and it actually helped out.
- 32:59Speaker 21: And with the troops is kind of where I started
- 33:01Speaker 21: over there overseas, Craig, performing for them. You know, in
- 33:05Speaker 21: our off time when we weren't out on patrol or
- 33:08Speaker 21: we were, you know, we didn't have to deal with
- 33:11Speaker 21: any of that kind of stuff. We would have a
- 33:12Speaker 21: few minutes where everybody would be smoking a cigarette and
- 33:15Speaker 21: John would be over there playing his guitar.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:18Speaker 4: It's amazing.
- 33:20Speaker 5: How does it feel to be getting an award from
- 33:23Speaker 5: the Country Music Association here in Texas? How does that
- 33:27Speaker 5: feel to be a couple weeks from being given an
- 33:31Speaker 5: award for your music and for also your outreach to veterans?
- 33:36Speaker 5: I'm just curious what emotionally is going on for you.
- 33:40Speaker 21: You know, it is just so overwhelming, Craig. First and foremost,
- 33:44Speaker 21: I want to say a big thank you to the
- 33:45Speaker 21: CMA of Texas and Mary and for, you know, allowing
- 33:50Speaker 21: us to not only participate, but, you know, just to
- 33:52Speaker 21: be there this year. And the fact that I am
- 33:55Speaker 21: receiving an award that, just like you said, it ties
- 33:58Speaker 21: in two of my passions, which of course is music
- 34:02Speaker 21: and military. It's just, it's so overwhelming and so humbling,
- 34:06Speaker 21: but it goes to show that I am having an
- 34:09Speaker 21: impact in the things that not only am I doing,
- 34:12Speaker 21: but others are doing, are helping people out there and
- 34:16Speaker 21: helping us connect with them. So it's just, it's such
- 34:19Speaker 21: an honor to be awarded, and I'm so humbled. I'm
- 34:23Speaker 21: going to be in such great company there, so it's
- 34:26Speaker 21: going to be exciting.
- 34:27Speaker 4: So I usually do this whenever I talk to musicians.
- 34:30Speaker 4: I ask permission.
- 34:31Speaker 5: I should do this a different way, I'm going to
- 34:32Speaker 5: be honest with you, John, because I do it very
- 34:34Speaker 5: difficultly for you. But I'm going to ask you for
- 34:36Speaker 5: permission to play one of your songs live on the air,
- 34:38Speaker 5: and then I'll play one of your songs, the whole thing,
- 34:41Speaker 5: alive on the air so people can get a better
- 34:42Speaker 5: sense of who you are as a musician.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Is that something you approve of me doing?
- 34:46Speaker 5: Do you give me the digital rights just for this
- 34:49Speaker 5: one day to play this song on the radio and
- 34:51Speaker 5: on the Internet?
- 34:53Speaker 21: You have my 100% full permission.
- 34:56Speaker 4: And I have Sure Feels Good.
- 34:58Speaker 5: I don't know if you have a different song you'd
- 34:59Speaker 5: rather I feature, but that's the one that I found
- 35:02Speaker 5: and listened to first. Is there a different song you'd
- 35:04Speaker 5: like me to find, or does that work?
- 35:06Speaker 21: No, I think that's a good choice. That one was
- 35:09Speaker 21: in the top 40 here down on the Texas charts,
- 35:12Speaker 21: so I think people really appreciate and like that one,
- 35:14Speaker 21: so that's a good one.
- 35:15Speaker 4: All right, so we're going to play that song. I'm
- 35:16Speaker 4: going to put you on hold for just a couple seconds.
- 35:18Speaker 5: This is still our Veteran Voices segment, and this is
- 35:21Speaker 5: John Swatt's music, Sure Feels Good, and one more time
- 35:25Speaker 5: he will be getting an award at the Country Music
- 35:28Speaker 5: Awards here in Texas in a couple weeks. I'm laughing
- 35:31Speaker 5: because I'm happy about it. That's a giggle of joy.
- 35:34Speaker 5: because how awesome he is and how awesome his work is.
- 35:37Speaker 5: But I want anybody that's not familiar with the music
- 35:38Speaker 5: to hear him.
- 35:39Speaker 4: So here we go.
- 35:45Speaker 17: I ain't here on.
- 35:53Speaker 13: A rainy Sunday morning.
- 35:58Speaker 23: With you.
- 36:01Speaker 15: I can think of nothing else I'd rather do I.
- 36:04Speaker 17: Used to run around all.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Over town with my crazy friends and never slow down.
- 36:11Speaker 21: All it took was you, girl. Come along and.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Change my world. You got me spinning, spinning, spinning. Round
- 36:21Speaker 1: and round like I've never been.
- 36:24Speaker 2: I keep wishing, wishing, wishing.
- 36:28Speaker 23: But it won't ever end You got me falling, falling
- 36:34Speaker 23: Falling in love.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Never felt like this Wasn't planning on it But it.
- 36:43Speaker 13: Sure feels good Never thought that I would meet.
- 37:00Speaker 15: An angel But down you flew.
- 37:06Speaker 17: I know heaven must be missing you When it's just
- 37:11Speaker 17: us two Alone in this room.
- 37:13Speaker 16: And you do what you do That takes me to.
- 37:16Speaker 13: The moon Every night Every time we kiss I gotta hold.
- 37:22Speaker 24: On tight You got me.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Spinning, spinning, spinning Round and round like I've never been
- 37:30Speaker 1: I keep wishing, wishing, wishing That it won't.
- 37:35Speaker 17: Ever end You got me falling, falling Falling.
- 37:41Speaker 1: In love Never felt like.
- 37:44Speaker 13: This Wasn't planning on it But.
- 37:46Speaker 23: It sure feels good.
- 38:02Speaker 24: It's like a ticket to ride on a tilt to work.
- 38:06Speaker 23: Every time I'm with you, girl, you got.
- 38:09Speaker 9: Me spinning, spinning, spinning.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Round and round like I've never been. I keep wishing, wishing,
- 38:17Speaker 1: wishing that it won't ever end.
- 38:22Speaker 23: You got me falling, falling, falling in love.
- 38:29Speaker 24: Never felt like this.
- 38:31Speaker 23: Wouldn't put it on me, but it sure feels good.
- 38:36Speaker 17: Yeah, it sure feels good, baby. You got me spinning, spinning, spinning.
- 38:52Speaker 4: Bringing back John Swatt onto the air.
- 38:54Speaker 5: Sure Feels Good is the song you just got the
- 38:56Speaker 5: entire playthrough of.
- 38:58Speaker 4: John, that is awesome.
- 39:00Speaker 5: And you're awesome as both a veteran who served and
- 39:02Speaker 5: protected our country and legitimately on its own as just
- 39:05Speaker 5: a musician. But how does it make you feel one
- 39:09Speaker 5: more time to be getting a chance to be acknowledged
- 39:11Speaker 5: by the Country Music Awards for your musicianship as well
- 39:15Speaker 5: as your veteran status and your service to the country?
- 39:20Speaker 21: Well, I hate to take the words out of your mouth,
- 39:22Speaker 21: but it sure feels good, Craig.
- 39:24Speaker 14: It's your mouth.
- 39:27Speaker 21: It's just a wonderful feeling. and knowing that you have
- 39:31Speaker 21: your fellow veterans, the Gold Star families, and everybody out
- 39:35Speaker 21: there that are pulling for you. You know, that's the
- 39:38Speaker 21: reason that I do what I do, and I know
- 39:41Speaker 21: a lot of other people do what they do as well.
- 39:43Speaker 21: We do it for the families. We do it for
- 39:45Speaker 21: our fans. We do it for... the people that are
- 39:48Speaker 21: brought together by our music and our hard work. So
- 39:52Speaker 21: it's amazing.
- 39:53Speaker 5: Let me ask you this, because you referenced it for
- 39:55Speaker 5: the military community itself, because they are a very supportive,
- 39:59Speaker 5: very tight-knit group of individuals that you're a part of.
- 40:02Speaker 5: Do you think that that's a big reason that you've
- 40:04Speaker 5: seen some success in the world of music, not just talent,
- 40:07Speaker 5: but also the veterans who will probably respond to you
- 40:10Speaker 5: more once they know you're part of that brotherhood?
- 40:14Speaker 21: I think so, absolutely. You know, I think that's one
- 40:18Speaker 21: thing that I have come to realize over the years,
- 40:22Speaker 21: especially playing music, is some of the songs that I've
- 40:26Speaker 21: played that have a patriotic feel to it. One of
- 40:30Speaker 21: my most recent ones that was actually in the top
- 40:32Speaker 21: 30 called Stripes and Stars. You know, when I would
- 40:35Speaker 21: go out and I would play that song or I
- 40:37Speaker 21: would play, you know, Red, White and Blue Eyes or
- 40:39Speaker 21: Red Mexico or certain songs that connect with certain people.
- 40:43Speaker 21: we would come up and they would start telling me
- 40:45Speaker 21: their story. And lo and behold, you know, they would
- 40:48Speaker 21: either be a vet, you know, connected to a veteran
- 40:50Speaker 21: or veteran themselves, or maybe part of a gold star family,
- 40:55Speaker 21: or they had, you know, everybody, I think in some way,
- 40:58Speaker 21: form or fashion has some kind of connection to that world.
- 41:01Speaker 21: And so I think, like I was saying, you know,
- 41:04Speaker 21: music kind of brings those stories out sometimes. And it's really,
- 41:07Speaker 21: it's kind of fascinating. And it actually helps me with
- 41:10Speaker 21: my songwriting a lot because I have a lot of
- 41:13Speaker 21: people that I can pull from their experiences.
- 41:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I was also curious if it's a catharsis for you.
- 41:20Speaker 5: I've talked to a lot of veterans during this segment
- 41:22Speaker 5: who do some sort of artistic endeavor, whether it's simply
- 41:26Speaker 5: like painting or something as.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Different as you and being a musician.
- 41:33Speaker 5: But do you think there's some sort of piece you
- 41:36Speaker 5: get and maybe some sort of way to work through
- 41:40Speaker 5: any of your feelings from your time in service and
- 41:43Speaker 5: your time being deployed into a combat situation to throw
- 41:47Speaker 5: your heart into music as much as it seems that
- 41:48Speaker 5: you do?
- 41:51Speaker 21: Absolutely, Craig. You know, I found a long time ago
- 41:57Speaker 21: that I've been blessed in the fact that I do
- 42:00Speaker 21: have music, which is very therapeutic for me, that I
- 42:03Speaker 21: can kind of express and get my feelings out or
- 42:06Speaker 21: get my emotions out, and they come across. Whereas there's
- 42:10Speaker 21: so many people out there that on a day-to-day basis,
- 42:13Speaker 21: they struggle with those experiences and with, you know, PTSD
- 42:18Speaker 21: and other things that they're going through. And, you know,
- 42:22Speaker 21: hopefully I'm praying that maybe through my music or other
- 42:26Speaker 21: people's or our reach out programs that, you know, or
- 42:30Speaker 21: the two-step foundation, we're able to reach those people and
- 42:33Speaker 21: let them know, Hey, you do have a voice. There
- 42:35Speaker 21: is somebody that, you know, understands, uh, to an extent,
- 42:38Speaker 21: what you're going through, and we can help each other.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Tell me about the Two-Step Foundation. What is it? How
- 42:44Speaker 4: does it work? How are you involved?
- 42:47Speaker 21: Well, the Two-Step Foundation was established in memory of my
- 42:52Speaker 21: very good friend, her son, Adam, who was a sergeant
- 42:56Speaker 21: in the United States Army. His nickname, of course, when
- 42:59Speaker 21: he was in was Two-Step. He unfortunately lost his life
- 43:03Speaker 21: while serving our country. And so.
- 43:07Speaker 21: Ever since then, Tracy has just felt this pull. Of course,
- 43:11Speaker 21: being a Gold Star mom, she started this foundation to
- 43:14Speaker 21: reach out and help other Gold Star families, other veterans.
- 43:18Speaker 21: And one of the main things that she focuses on
- 43:21Speaker 21: is the siblings as well is a very big focus
- 43:24Speaker 21: of her foundation because it's not just that one person
- 43:30Speaker 21: or that one family member that goes through these tragedies
- 43:32Speaker 21: and these traumatic experiences. It affects everybody. It's kind of
- 43:36Speaker 21: a ripple effect. And so by pulling in the veterans
- 43:40Speaker 21: and using music and kind of it establishes and, of course,
- 43:44Speaker 21: pulls other people in. And everybody likes to go out and,
- 43:47Speaker 21: you know, you can sit back and enjoy some music
- 43:50Speaker 21: and then meet some new friends and connect and support
- 43:54Speaker 21: each other. And, you know, it's just every chance I
- 43:57Speaker 21: get that Tracy calls, I can come. And when she
- 44:00Speaker 21: has her two-step foundation, you know, where she does her
- 44:04Speaker 21: fundraiser down there. I'm always there. She's always reaching out
- 44:09Speaker 21: to help others. And of course, I feel like that's
- 44:11Speaker 21: just a little bit I can do to help out
- 44:13Speaker 21: and reach.
- 44:14Speaker 5: So can you tell me, whenever we mention a veteran
- 44:17Speaker 5: that we know that lost his life, I do like
- 44:20Speaker 5: to remember them in a positive light. I think it's
- 44:22Speaker 5: something that you guys, anyone that serves in our military
- 44:26Speaker 5: does quite well. Can you give me some memories you
- 44:29Speaker 5: have of Sergeant Two Steps, some fun ones that you
- 44:31Speaker 5: can share with us to keep his memory alive?
- 44:34Speaker 21: You know, I will say this. I myself personally did
- 44:37Speaker 21: not know Adam, but I have gotten to know Tracy very,
- 44:40Speaker 21: very well. And, you know, she has shared some of
- 44:44Speaker 21: the similar stories that I've been through where you're with
- 44:48Speaker 21: your friends and, you know, you want to tell mom
- 44:51Speaker 21: that you're not going out partying, but she knows better. Tracy. First,
- 44:55Speaker 21: he says if they were a little too close sometimes,
- 44:58Speaker 21: he would overshare some things that maybe his son shouldn't
- 45:01Speaker 21: be telling his mom.
- 45:02Speaker 4: He's a veteran.
- 45:03Speaker 21: But from what I've gathered from other people that knew Adam,
- 45:08Speaker 21: he was just a wonderful person. He served his country proudly.
- 45:11Speaker 21: He liked to live life. He loved supporting his fellow friends.
- 45:17Speaker 21: And he just was just so proud to be in
- 45:21Speaker 21: the United States, serving the United States Army. I know
- 45:25Speaker 21: Tracy is proud of him, and I don't mean to
- 45:29Speaker 21: get too deep into this, Craig, but the way I
- 45:31Speaker 21: kind of feel like it is is Adam's looking down,
- 45:34Speaker 21: and I think that that's Tracy's big motivation, and that
- 45:38Speaker 21: is the foundation of the Two-Step Foundation is his memory,
- 45:42Speaker 21: and we can build upon that, and we can help others.
- 45:45Speaker 5: I can't tell you that I'm surprised that you've heard
- 45:47Speaker 5: stories about how Sergeant Two-Step was a partier, because it
- 45:50Speaker 5: does sound... You get that kind of nickname by having
- 45:53Speaker 5: a lot of fun. Tell me about your own experience
- 45:56Speaker 5: in the military. It is something I like to highlight
- 45:58Speaker 5: and do. As you said early on at the beginning
- 46:00Speaker 5: of this discussion, you served two tours in Iraq for
- 46:04Speaker 5: Operation Iraqi Freedom.
- 46:06Speaker 4: Do you mind sharing some of your experience protecting our country?
- 46:11Speaker 8: Absolutely.
- 46:12Speaker 21: You know, I will say this. When you're over there,
- 46:16Speaker 21: there is a bond that is just... It's created between
- 46:20Speaker 21: the people that go through what you've gone through. But
- 46:24Speaker 21: I will say, while I was over there, some of
- 46:27Speaker 21: the things that we went through we don't really like
- 46:30Speaker 21: to talk about. But the fun things I can tell
- 46:32Speaker 21: you is when I first got over there, Craig, I
- 46:35Speaker 21: saw this guy that I was replacing, and he had
- 46:38Speaker 21: a $ 20 guitar that he was going to sell me.
- 46:41Speaker 21: And the strings were all dried out from the desert air.
- 46:45Speaker 6: Sure.
- 46:45Speaker 21: The wood was all, you know, whatever. It was not
- 46:47Speaker 21: a very expensive guitar, but I retaught myself how to play.
- 46:52Speaker 21: And we also, when we would travel up and down
- 46:56Speaker 21: doing our patrols in Iraq, we had it rigged up
- 47:00Speaker 21: where we could listen to our music while we were patrolling.
- 47:04Speaker 21: We probably weren't supposed to be doing that. But you
- 47:06Speaker 21: know what we.
- 47:08Speaker 14: Well, we kind of figured.
- 47:09Speaker 21: You know, we're serving our country. We're kind of putting
- 47:12Speaker 21: our lives on the line. You know, we're in a
- 47:13Speaker 21: combat zone. I think we're allowed to enjoy ourselves with
- 47:16Speaker 21: a little bit of music.
- 47:17Speaker 4: I think you are. I think that's totally fine.
- 47:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:20Speaker 21: Yeah. But, you know, I think that also it opened
- 47:23Speaker 21: up my eyes, you know, because you pull from different
- 47:27Speaker 21: people around the entire country.
- 47:29Speaker 11: Sure.
- 47:30Speaker 21: And you meet different people. Just in my platoon alone,
- 47:33Speaker 21: I had, you know, a friend from Alaska, a friend
- 47:35Speaker 21: from Georgia.
- 47:36Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 47:36Speaker 21: A friend from California. I'm from Texas. But music, of course,
- 47:42Speaker 21: brought us all together. And of course, being in that
- 47:45Speaker 21: particular instance in a combat zone, you all pull together
- 47:49Speaker 21: and remember what you're doing this for and what you're
- 47:52Speaker 21: fighting for. And the one experience I can share with you, Craig,
- 47:57Speaker 21: and I love this story because it is what has
- 47:59Speaker 21: motivated me to continue my journey in music is I
- 48:03Speaker 21: lost a very dear friend of mine overseas, Specialist Lex Nelson,
- 48:08Speaker 21: and we did his ceremony. I had to perform the
- 48:12Speaker 21: national anthem, and that was very tough for me to do,
- 48:16Speaker 21: of course, because he was just like a brother to
- 48:19Speaker 21: me and all of us in our section. And when
- 48:22Speaker 21: we performed that 21-gun salute, I don't think there was
- 48:26Speaker 21: a dry eye in there. Sure. But I remember afterwards,
- 48:30Speaker 21: my platoon sergeant walked up to me and he said,
- 48:33Speaker 21: you made Lex proud. You made all of us proud.
- 48:36Speaker 21: And when you get out of the military, you better
- 48:38Speaker 21: continue on with this music thing. You better keep making
- 48:40Speaker 21: us proud. And I made him a promise that I
- 48:43Speaker 21: would do that. And hopefully I've kept my word to
- 48:46Speaker 21: this day.
- 48:47Speaker 5: Yeah, well, you're about to be given an award from
- 48:49Speaker 5: the Country Music Awards here in Texas. So I think
- 48:53Speaker 5: you have done that. I want more question for you.
- 48:56Speaker 5: And then I have Stars and Stripes and Stars. You
- 48:58Speaker 5: mentioned it. We could play it to close with about
- 49:01Speaker 5: six minutes left. It's a three minute song. So the
- 49:04Speaker 5: last thing I can ask you, because I'm intrigued by it.
- 49:06Speaker 5: You said someone gave you a guitar when you first
- 49:08Speaker 5: got to Iraq. Were there a lot of moments where
- 49:12Speaker 5: it was just you and your guitar and you were
- 49:15Speaker 5: trying to deal with maybe some of those things you
- 49:17Speaker 5: don't want to talk about on the show and the
- 49:18Speaker 5: guitar really helped you?
- 49:19Speaker 6: A lot?
- 49:22Speaker 21: Absolutely. That is where in the military is kind of
- 49:26Speaker 21: where the spark for writing music kind of was reignited.
- 49:32Speaker 21: And a lot of my first songs that I wrote
- 49:35Speaker 21: were about some of those experiences that we were going through. And,
- 49:41Speaker 21: you know, going back to what we were talking about earlier,
- 49:44Speaker 21: it was very therapeutic. But some of my early songs,
- 49:48Speaker 21: it was because of the things that we went through.
- 49:49Speaker 9: Sure.
- 49:50Speaker 21: The things that maybe I wouldn't want to share with
- 49:53Speaker 21: a lot of people. But just like you were saying,
- 49:56Speaker 21: it helped me get it out. And it helped me
- 49:58Speaker 21: develop now where I can do it through my music nowadays.
- 50:03Speaker 19: Wow.
- 50:03Speaker 21: And I can share it with the veterans and people saying, hey,
- 50:06Speaker 21: I've been through that experience. This is the way I
- 50:08Speaker 21: was able to deal with it. Let me help you
- 50:10Speaker 21: if I can help you in any way. Deal with it.
- 50:13Speaker 21: And if not that way, let's find you some help. Because,
- 50:16Speaker 21: you know, you know this as well as I do.
- 50:18Speaker 21: There are 22 veterans a day that commit suicide in
- 50:23Speaker 21: their lives. And it is very sad. And, of course,
- 50:27Speaker 21: anything that we can do on our end to help
- 50:30Speaker 21: and just a little bit I can do if it's
- 50:32Speaker 21: through my music. Of course, you know, Tracy's doing everything
- 50:35Speaker 21: she can do through the Two Step Foundation. And, of course,
- 50:38Speaker 21: I want to do my part. And I can tell
- 50:41Speaker 21: that you're doing your part as well, Craig, through these interviews,
- 50:45Speaker 21: which it is so great to get our voices out
- 50:48Speaker 21: there because there's so many people that connect with us.
- 50:52Speaker 21: with veterans that are either going through it now or
- 50:54Speaker 21: have been through it.
- 50:55Speaker 8: Amen.
- 50:56Speaker 5: So we have about three minutes left, so with your
- 50:58Speaker 5: permission again, we could close with this last song, but
- 51:01Speaker 5: I just want to tell people that they can go
- 51:02Speaker 5: see you on October 14th for the Sergeant Two-Step Foundation
- 51:06Speaker 5: in association with the Country Music Awards of Texas. They'll
- 51:10Speaker 5: be honoring you at the Country Music Texas Award Show
- 51:13Speaker 5: that's at the Big Barn in the Woodlands, which is very,
- 51:16Speaker 5: very cool. But do I have your permission to play
- 51:18Speaker 5: as much as I can of Stripes and Stars to
- 51:20Speaker 5: close this?
- 51:22Speaker 21: You've got two thumbs up, Craig.
- 51:25Speaker 14: Thank you.
- 51:25Speaker 4: It's been an honor to speak to you, sir.
- 51:27Speaker 5: Thank you so much for your service and for your
- 51:29Speaker 5: willingness to come on the show today and promoting a
- 51:32Speaker 5: really cool event that's coming up.
- 51:33Speaker 4: And it does benefit the Sergeant Two Steps Foundation, I imagine.
- 51:38Speaker 4: Is that true? If people go out and buy tickets
- 51:39Speaker 4: to this?
- 51:41Speaker 21: That is correct. And thank you so much for having
- 51:44Speaker 21: me on today. It was an honor. And I really
- 51:48Speaker 21: appreciate it, and thank you so much.
- 51:49Speaker 4: You're awesome.
- 51:50Speaker 5: All right, we're going to play a little bit of
- 51:51Speaker 5: Stripes and Stars before we get out of here on
- 51:52Speaker 5: The Voice of Texas.
- 52:03Speaker 9: I've been burned, torn, weathered, and worn. I've been loved
- 52:18Speaker 9: and hated, still proud, but a little faded.
- 52:27Speaker 17: I've been to hell and back.
- 52:33Speaker 4: I still stand.
- 52:35Speaker 17: Tall in the middle of it all.
- 52:39Speaker 24: And I will fly high as I'll be damned if
- 52:44Speaker 24: I fall When the smoke clears and the war is
- 52:47Speaker 24: won The battle cries are.
- 52:50Speaker 17: Left unsung Proudly wear the scars Cause.
- 52:56Speaker 13: I am stripes and stars.
- 53:03Speaker 15: The colors of freedom. Faith and union.
- 53:13Speaker 17: Red, white, and blue.
- 53:20Speaker 15: Proof that love exists and hope does too.
- 53:24Speaker 17: Dreams are.
- 53:31Speaker 24: As I'll be damned if I fall When the smoke
- 53:40Speaker 24: clears and the war is won The battle cries are
- 53:46Speaker 24: left unsung Grab me where the stars As I strive
- 53:52Speaker 24: and start.
- 54:12Speaker 23: I'll be damned.
- 54:15Speaker 13: If I fall When the smoke clears and the war
- 54:22Speaker 13: is won The battlegrounds are left unsung
- 54:28Speaker 17: Proudly wear the scar AM 700
