- 0:00Dot com Welcome to the daily quote, a podcast designed to
- 0:06kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:08I'm our host Andrew McGivern for December 28th.
- 0:11Today is national call a friend day, a reminder to pick up the
- 0:15phone and reconnect in our text first world actual phone calls
- 0:21have become rare. We emoji react, we voice note,
- 0:25we message. But call.
- 0:28That feels almost formal. Now.
- 0:30National Call of Friend Day pushes back on that trend,
- 0:33encouraging us to have real conversations with real voices.
- 0:38There's something irreplaceable about hearing someone's voice.
- 0:42The warmth, the laughter, the pauses.
- 0:45Text can't capture that. A phone call creates presence in
- 0:50a way digital communication can't match.
- 0:53And that brings us to today's quote from Aristotle.
- 0:57Aristotle understood the depth of true friendship when he wrote
- 1:03Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies.
- 1:08Aristotle's definition is beautiful and true.
- 1:11Real friendship isn't just about proximity or shared interests.
- 1:15It's a deeper connection. Two people who understand each
- 1:19other so completely they become extensions of one another.
- 1:24You know this friend, the one who finishes your sentences, who
- 1:28knows what you're thinking before you say it?
- 1:32Who gets the joke before you tell it?
- 1:35That's not coincidence. That's Aristotle's single soul
- 1:38dwelling and two bodies. But that connection needs
- 1:42maintenance. Souls dwelling together require
- 1:46communication. And sometimes that text isn't
- 1:49enough. You need to hear their voice.
- 1:52You need that back and forth of conversation.
- 1:56You need the realness of a phone.
- 1:59Call. National Call a Friend Day
- 2:01reminds us these connections are precious.
- 2:05Don't let them atrophy through neglect.
- 2:09Pick up the phone today. Call a friend, not text.
- 2:14Call. Pick someone you haven't talked
- 2:17to in too long, someone you keep meaning to reach out to, someone
- 2:23who makes you laugh, who gets you, who knows your soul.
- 2:30Don't overthink it. Don't wait for the perfect time
- 2:33or the perfect reason. Just call and say I was thinking
- 2:39about you. That's enough.
- 2:41Because Aristotle was right. True friendship is 2 souls
- 2:45connected, but souls need voices to keep that connection alive.
- 2:51So dial, talk, laugh, remember what it feels like to hear your
- 2:57friend's voice and think, yes, there's the other half of my
- 3:01soul that's worth the phone call.
- 3:06That's going to do it. For today, I'm Andrew McGivern
- 3:08signing off for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 3:13Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
