Transcript
- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10Why not Welcome to What's Your Least Favorite Scary Movie?
- 0:14The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:17the absurd, and all of our favorite and least favorite
- 0:20scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:22movie rightfully has its fan base.
- 0:23Even if we don't always get it. My name's Travis, my name's
- 0:26Jesse, and welcome to a live five episode.
- 0:32If you've ever tuned into one of our live episodes before, you
- 0:35know how this is going to go. If you haven't, then well, all
- 0:39you need to know is we're not doing our normal edits.
- 0:41So if we sound a little funny and like we could have probably
- 0:44polished up our recording, we just didn't have the time.
- 0:49And that kind of leads me into my announcements.
- 0:51I want to say thank you to everybody that's reached out to
- 0:53us via social media and our our other methods of contact.
- 0:59I am recovering from surgery decently well.
- 1:02It was a little bit more complicated.
- 1:07March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, so I'm just going to go
- 1:11ahead and share some of this information.
- 1:13This is my second laparoscopic surgery to remove some
- 1:17endometriosis issues that I've been having.
- 1:20I've had some other health issues that have been going on
- 1:23for several months now, some of them related to endometriosis,
- 1:26some of them, I don't know, kind of unknown.
- 1:29But this was a lot more extensive than my last
- 1:32laparoscopic surgery was. And I had some complications
- 1:36after the surgery. Travis was literally like
- 1:39pulling the car up to Take Me Home.
- 1:42And I had a bleeding issue, developed a hematoma, had to
- 1:45stay overnight, my first overnight stay in a hospital.
- 1:48So all that's to say, I really appreciate everybody taking the
- 1:53time to reach out. That's part of the reason we're
- 1:55doing this live recording tonight is just because the
- 1:57recovery process has been a lot more intense than what we
- 2:01respect, what we expected. It's been this is honestly the
- 2:05most I've spoken in like an uninterrupted stream in weeks
- 2:10like a week and I haven't been able.
- 2:11To get anything out of her. Yeah, it's.
- 2:13Been miserable. Yeah, it's, it's been a couple
- 2:16of sentences here and there and then I have to stop and breathe
- 2:18really hard. I'm kidding, I have.
- 2:20I also want to make a note, we're out in our living room
- 2:23right now, so we have pets. So you heard Jingling right out
- 2:25the gate because Talia was scratching, and you're going to
- 2:27hear Cordelia meowing because she's a hungry cat right now.
- 2:30And I feel Scout purring on my foot.
- 2:33She's right underneath your microphone.
- 2:34If she gets real excited it might get picked up on the mic
- 2:36too. Yeah, so and expect pets, you
- 2:39know, they're, they're part of the show too.
- 2:41They're going to be more of a vocal part of the show this time
- 2:43around. The normal.
- 2:44Yep, they sure are. So that that's it for
- 2:46announcements. That's it for, well, one more
- 2:48announcement because we have had a few people ask.
- 2:51I know Scream 7 recently came out in theaters and we've kind
- 2:54of talked this over because, you know, the plan was always when
- 2:57we knew Scream 7 was coming, that we would eventually cover
- 2:59it. Spyglass has kind of showed
- 3:03their full ass throughout the whole production and marketing
- 3:06of it, but we also still have a lot of respect for the creative
- 3:11people involved in it and we have a lot of love for the
- 3:15series as a whole. We have not watched it yet.
- 3:19We do plan on seeing it at some point once it's released on home
- 3:23media, we will cover it. But because of some of the icky
- 3:27feelings we have about some of the decisions by glasses made,
- 3:31we're going to look up some charities to donate to when we
- 3:34do cover it. So that that's our plan with
- 3:37that, just to kind of give us the chance to talk about it as a
- 3:42piece of art that has meaning to us and to a lot of people, while
- 3:46also acknowledging that we do not love all of the people that
- 3:48were involved in it. Yeah.
- 3:50So all right, that's it for announcements.
- 3:53OK. So now we're going to go ahead
- 3:55and start talking about the movie.
- 3:56Yeah, it's something you're familiar with, The Strangers.
- 3:59Yes, so we covered the first strangers for Travis's birthday.
- 4:04That was his birthday pick. Was that my birthday?
- 4:06It was. Huh.
- 4:07Yeah. OK, You were, you were like,
- 4:09you've been waiting for the right time and it felt like the
- 4:11right time finally. Yeah, it feels about right.
- 4:14Yeah, it feels about right. I thought I would have picked
- 4:16something a little bit weirder, but OK.
- 4:17Yeah, I was. I was just really glad you
- 4:19didn't pick New York Ripper. It's going to happen one day.
- 4:22I, I just, you know, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but
- 4:25that is going to be a movie eventually.
- 4:27That's a great movie. Jesse, I don't understand your
- 4:29problem. All right, go ahead.
- 4:32Anyway, Anyway, I think it was always kind of unspoken between
- 4:35us that I would eventually be the one to pull the trigger on
- 4:37Strangers Prey at night. Yeah.
- 4:39And after watching the new trilogy in theaters and still
- 4:46consistently weeks later being like, also, you know what, I
- 4:51figured it was time for us to go ahead and talk about strangers
- 4:53pray at night. Cuz we will eventually get into
- 4:56that. The new trilogy too.
- 4:58But we're not doing them as you know, our typical kind of like
- 5:01flagship franchise, you know, the way we, we're currently
- 5:04going through Final destination and way we've gone through like
- 5:07screams on Halloween, all of that.
- 5:09So that's, that's why we're doing Strangers Pray at night.
- 5:11Yeah. So Strangers Pray at night
- 5:13released March 9th, 2018. Happy almost birthday to this
- 5:18movie. We watched it on our Blu-ray,
- 5:21but as of right now, you can stream it on You can also that's
- 5:27an American Dad reference dad. Or as you know what's up.
- 5:31You can also rent it on Fandango at home, Apple TV or Prime.
- 5:34This was written by Brian Bertino and Ben Kitai, directed
- 5:38by Johannes Roberts, music by Adrian Johnston and special
- 5:42effects makeup supervisor was Becky Ingram.
- 5:45Can can I ask a question? Do you know if Brian Bertino
- 5:49actually wrote part of this or is it just characters?
- 5:53I'm pretty sure he actually wrote part of it, but I can look
- 5:56it up real. Quick, I don't know if he he
- 5:57might have I I may have I I don't think he did, but yeah, I
- 6:02could be wrong. It's yeah.
- 6:03Whenever I saw his name on the credits here, I was a little bit
- 6:07surprised. But I, you know, I mean, like,
- 6:09maybe. Yeah.
- 6:11I thought he was done with it. I'm.
- 6:12Pulling it up real quick, real quick, real quick.
- 6:15Yeah, no, he's got like a full written by credit on this.
- 6:18Wow OK, good for him. I'm glad that it came from
- 6:21someone true to the the series here.
- 6:23That's Cordelia. Yeah, Cordelia, she's really
- 6:25jingly right now, like. You guys are an hour until
- 6:28dinner time. You're going to hear her a lot,
- 6:30unfortunately. We're going to pause here in a
- 6:31little while to feed them, but yeah.
- 6:33For it will get worse before it gets better, yeah.
- 6:36Starring Christina Hendricks as Cindy Martin Henderson as Mike
- 6:42Bailey, Madison as Kinzie Lewis Pullman as Luke, Damien Mafel as
- 6:49Man in the Mask. Man in the mask.
- 6:51I told you you'd be upset when? You were the other names.
- 6:55And Bellamy is doll face, yeah. Doll face.
- 6:58Leah Enslin is pinup. Pinup.
- 7:00Yeah, so. He did not get back head, he did
- 7:02not get sack head. He is man in the mask.
- 7:04What was what was the credit in the original 1 again, We're
- 7:08we're having to do I'm I'm pulling this.
- 7:09One now, OK. This is stupid.
- 7:11I you were. Right.
- 7:12Yeah, I when I wrote that down, I was like, oh, you're gonna be
- 7:14pissed at something. I'm gonna tell you when you
- 7:15record. Be the exact same thing.
- 7:17Let me see. It's man in the mask.
- 7:20And that too, Yeah, I think did. We not discuss that.
- 7:23I'm sure we did, it's been a while.
- 7:24OK, you didn't even remember it was on your birthday, so.
- 7:27Yeah, exactly. OK, it's time for our favorite
- 7:30game on the show. Budget or?
- 7:32Bug. Ted.
- 7:34I think this is bug Ted. In fact, it is.
- 7:38Yeah, to the tune of about 5 mil.
- 7:41OK, so like halfway from bug Ted to budget.
- 7:44Yeah, OK. That's not bad you.
- 7:46Know if we ever like make a movie and become big, I want
- 7:50that to be the title of our joint memoir.
- 7:53I thought that that would be. Halfway from Bug Ted to budget.
- 7:59Opening box office was 10 million.
- 8:01Worldwide gross was 31 million. IMDb score 5.3 out of 10.
- 8:05Dear God how I wish I had the IMDb score of this before the
- 8:09new trilogy came out. What was the IMDb?
- 8:115.3. OK, cool.
- 8:12Yeah. You know, I'm really happy that
- 8:14it had. It had a better box office than
- 8:16I expected because I remember when we went to go see us, we
- 8:19were the only two people in the theater.
- 8:21Yeah, I remember. It actually made a really cool
- 8:23viewing experience for this type of movie, but I was kind of
- 8:25worried for it. Was that before we started Just
- 8:28Go going on like Sunday matinees to avoid crowds in general?
- 8:32I don't remember. Honestly, I couldn't remember my
- 8:35birthday. Jesse, come on.
- 8:36That's true. That's true.
- 8:38Old old man Travis over here. That's right.
- 8:40OK, I've got 3 movies from 2018. OK.
- 8:44And the theme is family. Family, Family.
- 8:49OK, first one, hereditary. OK.
- 8:52All right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:54Released June 8th, 2018. Budget of 10 million worldwide
- 8:58gross of 90,000,007.3 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 9:02Someday, when we feel like being a bunch of fucking bummers and
- 9:06having a heavy week, we will cover.
- 9:08It I was just thinking like, I want to talk.
- 9:10I've thought about that movie so many times, but I've been like
- 9:12it, It's a downer. It's a but we've talked about so
- 9:15many Downers and we've had such a fun time with it.
- 9:17That's true. I think we have a fun time with
- 9:19that one. I think I've contemplated the.
- 9:21Problem with that? That one is Toni Collette does
- 9:23too good a fucking job. It's really upsetting.
- 9:26It's been a long time since we've watched it in general,
- 9:27actually. I think we need to make.
- 9:28It's such a good movie make. A change to that.
- 9:30OK, second movie A Quiet Place. OK.
- 9:37Yay, I'm glad you did it. So Quiet Place released April
- 9:426th, 2018. Budget is $70 million. 70. 17 OK
- 9:50Worldwide gross 340,000,002. 140.
- 9:56Damn IMDV score of 7.5 out of 10.
- 10:00You know what, people? I respect that you guys love
- 10:03that franchise so much. That movie especially, I thought
- 10:06it was fun. I just, I don't understand why
- 10:09it was such a big thing. My mom and my little sister have
- 10:12gone to see every single one of them in theaters when they come
- 10:15out, and I just. Don't care.
- 10:18It's like. Especially when the second one
- 10:19got announced, I was like why? Why did we have to have?
- 10:22Her response was it's kind of the same as she is with like
- 10:25zombie movies where her interest is more in like human nature and
- 10:28being together in like an apocalypse ending type of event
- 10:32is that. She explained it to me when.
- 10:33I was like, I don't get it. That's not what I like about
- 10:35zombie movies. I like zombies in zombie movies.
- 10:393rd movie, another feel bad movie incident in a ghost land.
- 10:45That's a really good movie though.
- 10:47I remember watching it and I think it was the same day.
- 10:49Funny enough to tie this back to this movie, because Johannes
- 10:52Roberts, I think we watched it the same day.
- 10:55We watched 48 Meters Down. Probably.
- 10:58And it just, I remember, like, it was kind of whiplash.
- 11:00And then we took Tally for a walk around the apartment
- 11:03complex. Yeah, that, that's a really good
- 11:04movie. It is a heavy movie, yeah.
- 11:06I recommend people check it out if you've never seen it.
- 11:09So Incident in a Ghost Land released June 22nd 2018, my
- 11:14older sister's birthday. I don't have a budget for it,
- 11:18but it did make worldwide gross of 5.6 million and has an IMDb
- 11:22score of 6.4 out of 10. Yeah, cool.
- 11:24I like that. I got 3 tag lines, one of them
- 11:29not really a tackling. OK, based on true events.
- 11:33Yep, that's that. OK, that's what I thought.
- 11:38Do the IHOP move for you? The main one on the poster.
- 11:43Let us pray. Let us pray.
- 11:47Oh, OK. Like pray at night.
- 11:49I gotcha. Never underestimate the kindness
- 11:54of strangers, OK? Honestly, Punch up.
- 11:59Never overestimate the kindness of strangers.
- 12:02Overestimate. Yeah.
- 12:05I I like both. I think they're both pretty
- 12:07good. OK, I've got a few fun facts.
- 12:10Yeah, So this is originally set to start principal photography
- 12:16in 2009 with Laurent Brett and Muriel Lang Langenleger.
- 12:25We're supposed to direct. OK.
- 12:31Direction was eventually given to Johannes Robertson.
- 12:33Filming started in May 2017 after a quote UN quote troubled
- 12:37development period. So I got several of these
- 12:40development periods. In 2010, it was reported that
- 12:44Relative Relativity Media shelved The Stranger's Part 2,
- 12:48which is just kind of its working title at the time, as
- 12:51not in their best interest, even though Universal was already
- 12:54like committed and willing to distribute it.
- 12:58Yeah, that thing, that's dumb. I'm going to look it up, but I
- 13:01remember the first one doing really well.
- 13:03Yeah, Rogue Pictures then confirmed in January of 2011
- 13:08that it was back in production. Made 82,000,000 by the way.
- 13:12Sorry, go. Ahead, it was going to be about
- 13:16a family of four that got evicted from their homes due to
- 13:19troubles with the economy. Liv Tyler then stated that Part
- 13:232 was set for a 2014 release just in an interview somewhere
- 13:28talking about it. In 2015, Relativity Media and GK
- 13:32Film scheduled a December 2nd, 2016 release, which was later
- 13:37removed from the schedule. Eventually, Johannes Roberts met
- 13:42the producers of 47 Meters Down, which he directed both of those
- 13:46and the recent Primate. If anybody is not familiar with
- 13:51his work, if you don't know, now you know.
- 13:52Yeah. So he met with the producers of
- 13:5447 Meters Down. They gave him the script for
- 13:57Prey at Night, and he enjoyed it, and he decided he wanted to
- 14:01get involved. It ended up being filmed in
- 14:04Covington, Falmouth and Cincinnati.
- 14:07Yeah, yeah. It's right in our neck of the
- 14:09woods. It's immediately noticeable to
- 14:10us because, you know, we're from the area here, so we've seen
- 14:13that skyline many times. And it honestly, it felt really
- 14:16nice. March is kind of a bittersweet
- 14:18time year. We've got a lot of birthdays in
- 14:22the family, a lot of good things going on.
- 14:24Springtime is starting to want to come out, but it is also the
- 14:30the man who raised me for all intents and purposes, my dad.
- 14:34He his birthday was in March and the anniversary of his death is
- 14:38in March. So opening up on that Cincinnati
- 14:40skyline, like it just kind of felt like a really good way to
- 14:43open this month for me. I.
- 14:44Hadn't even considered. That, yeah, 'cause I like, I
- 14:46still sometimes when we're taking Talia to appointments,
- 14:49like I want to take a picture of the skyline and send it to him,
- 14:52'cause that's what I always did. And it's like even two years
- 14:54later, like, I'm sitting here having to be like, no, you, you
- 14:57can't. OK, So those are all my fun
- 15:01facts, which means we're good to talk about our good, bad, ugly
- 15:05and absurd, OK? And because I just did a lot of
- 15:07talking, you get to start us off.
- 15:09Hey, OK, I can do that. So all right, I mean, I think
- 15:12this is AI needed this movie after watching the newest
- 15:17trilogy, like, I needed to go back and watch a good one.
- 15:20Yeah, like, and it's not even that, it's just I wanted to
- 15:24like, it was nice to see a sequel to the original, like
- 15:27actually do it the way I feel like it needs to be done.
- 15:30Yeah. But you know what?
- 15:32We'll, we'll save. I'm sure we'll talk about those
- 15:34movies a little bit throughout this, but I don't want that to
- 15:37be the main focus of what I'm talking about with this.
- 15:39Movie and I'm just going to go ahead and do a quick plug for
- 15:41our Patreon. If you're a budget tier patron,
- 15:43you have the ability to access all of our past bonus episodes.
- 15:47One of those was a review of a miniature review of Stranger.
- 15:52Yeah, not a full one, but yeah, we did talk about it the first
- 15:55chapter 1 whenever we did that. So yeah, you can check that out.
- 15:59But pray at night. I I like it.
- 16:01I like it because it understands the characters.
- 16:04And the thing about this series is those three, like if you fuck
- 16:10up how to do them, they just are not interesting to watch.
- 16:14They understood how to do these characters in this movie.
- 16:17Like they're just stalking around.
- 16:19They're hanging in the back. They are really brutal, but they
- 16:23like to fuck with people. And I feel like I hear I am
- 16:28talking about that movie again, but like, that's something that
- 16:30we didn't get in this newer 1. So I'm really happy that it
- 16:32happened in this one. I mean, that was the thing that
- 16:35I really loved about the first one was just that, Oh my God.
- 16:38OK, hold on a second. Sorry about that.
- 16:42Sorry, we we Cordelia decided she was not going to let us wait
- 16:45until dinner time. And it was it was going to get
- 16:47even worse. She said it was her turn to
- 16:49talk. Yeah, OK, so all of the
- 16:51characters, I love the stalking, I love the killing.
- 16:55They're just creepy again. And you know, and I like it, you
- 16:58know, it's really entertaining. I think the soundtrack in this
- 17:00movie is also really banging. Yes.
- 17:03It like this movie, I feel like it has like an 80s aesthetic to
- 17:06it. So they lean really hard into it
- 17:08with the camera shots. Like we've got it on right now
- 17:11while we're doing since we're in the living room.
- 17:13And they do a lot of like those cool slow zooms and stuff like
- 17:15that. And there's a lot of neon
- 17:17lighting and just the, the overall vibe of the movie, it
- 17:20just feels like it was made in the 80s or something.
- 17:26And I mean, that's pretty much it.
- 17:27I also like that it's a short movie because, you know, this
- 17:30doesn't need to be something super drawn out.
- 17:32You know, it's straight and to the point and it's just a lot of
- 17:35fun. Yeah, like you said, we have it
- 17:36on right now and it's like we're about to like get straight to
- 17:41the action. Yeah, and it doesn't take long.
- 17:43It's not some kind of, like, contrived thing to like, get
- 17:45here. Like it's just they go to a
- 17:47trailer park, these people like to fuck with random people.
- 17:49They happen to find them and they get fucked with.
- 17:52Yeah. That's it.
- 17:53Yeah. And so for me, again, I have to
- 17:56agree with you. The soundtrack is phenomenal.
- 18:00I love that like since poppy stuff that they have going on
- 18:04kids in America, we were talking about this when when the movie
- 18:07first starts because it is like such a weird kind of like
- 18:11discordant beginning to the song.
- 18:13And I was like, it always sounds spooky, which they added some
- 18:15extra stuff over top of it. But the song itself does have
- 18:19like a weird where you're like, wait, are we are we are we
- 18:21happy? Are we not happy?
- 18:22I can't tell. Well, not only that mean that
- 18:25just also gives them credit for like adding their own creepy
- 18:28flavor to it. Yeah.
- 18:29And I would say that the scene with total eclipse of the Heart
- 18:33in the pool where like we've got a sound fading in and out,
- 18:36that's like probably a top 20 scene in horror for me.
- 18:39Oh yeah, it's really cool. It's a really great moment.
- 18:42Yeah, it's just, it's great, like you said, the the story
- 18:46doesn't get in the way the plot too much.
- 18:48It just really gets moving. I think we have some some good
- 18:52heart in it and I think it doesn't meander too much except
- 18:58for maybe a little bit at the end, but we'll get to that in a
- 19:00minute. But, and I, I've said this
- 19:01before, I understand that for a lot of people this is such a
- 19:04drastic tonal shift from the first one.
- 19:07But I kind of like that we have a strangers for both moods
- 19:11because the first strangers it is not like for me anyway, it's
- 19:15not a light hearted put on casually in the background that.
- 19:20Is that for me? Yeah, that's what I was going to
- 19:22do. That's why I, I, I clarify, I
- 19:24had that for me. Yeah, cuz it's one, it makes me
- 19:27really tense. I know it's one of the ones that
- 19:29my mom always cites like one of her top scariest movies she's
- 19:33ever seen cuz it's just so tense the whole time.
- 19:36And I think it's great and phenomenal.
- 19:37But that does make it one of those who like it's work for me
- 19:41to watch this one. I don't feel the same way.
- 19:43I feel like they still, we still have the strangers, they still
- 19:45fuck around a lot, but it's got a little bit more of a fun side
- 19:49to it, the tone. Yeah, the tone is different
- 19:52because I mean, if you really put these two movies like side
- 19:54by side, it's like people like convening after some kind of
- 19:59really weirdly awkward tragedy happened and we don't
- 20:03interpersonal full. Context.
- 20:05We just have enough like instead of like a denied proposal.
- 20:09It's like, hey daughter, we're shipping you off.
- 20:12The strangers is built on awkward setups.
- 20:15Like you have to like if you are like alone in a getaway with
- 20:19your like significant other and something really fucking awkward
- 20:23happens, just be prepared for somebody to knock on your door
- 20:26because that's how you know you're going to start.
- 20:27Strangers movie. Yeah, exactly.
- 20:30OK, all right. Bad.
- 20:32So I guess one of the things about this one is it almost
- 20:37feels kind of soap opery a little bit whenever it gets the
- 20:40dialogue between the sister and the brother.
- 20:42It just man, it's like the stereotypical.
- 20:47Come on, sis. Yeah, sis.
- 20:50Yeah, it's just like, there's just something to it.
- 20:52It's really cheesy, but, you know, like, I really, you know,
- 20:55it doesn't have to be strong dialogue for me.
- 20:57Like, that's not like a huge knock for me, but it is enough
- 21:03for me to like notice it and be like, this is kind of him here
- 21:06right now, you know? Yeah.
- 21:08I mean, yeah. It's the dialogue really.
- 21:12And like the the actors are good enough.
- 21:14I mean, we have the fucking dude from X here.
- 21:17Yeah, that. I can't remember his name.
- 21:19Martin Henderson. Martin Henderson, Yeah, yeah,
- 21:21he's really good. He's a great actor.
- 21:23The brother, he just, he reminds me, he gives me Peter Malark
- 21:28vibes, and not just because we watched Hunger Games earlier,
- 21:32but because like, there's just something about him.
- 21:34Like he's just a nice boy. And yeah, he's a good, good
- 21:39talker. I think for me, like I
- 21:43understand that a movie has to be of certain length.
- 21:48I do feel like the ending gets drawn out just a little bit.
- 21:53We do get some points for like that nod to like horror movie
- 21:58classics a la Halloween and Texas Chainsaw of her jumping
- 22:01into the back of the truck and pushing him out.
- 22:04I do feel like the ending just goes on a tick too long.
- 22:08It's a little absurd. Yeah, Yeah.
- 22:10I mean, I think that might be one of my absurds.
- 22:12Yeah, what is your ugly? You know, that's a great
- 22:20question. I I didn't really write anything
- 22:23down for ugly because I wasn't really.
- 22:25I had a hard time figuring out anything ugly with this.
- 22:28Can you have anything ugly in a movie starring Christina
- 22:31Hendricks? Which one is that?
- 22:34The mom. Oh, OK, which one is that?
- 22:38Wow. I'm sorry, Yeah, yeah.
- 22:43I don't know, man. I I really don't.
- 22:45I don't have an ugly for this. They didn't even kill the dog.
- 22:49They exactly that's what I was saying like you know, the ugly
- 22:52is the dog had to witness it's the.
- 22:53Dog was the dog was trapped in that room with.
- 22:57A day? Yeah.
- 22:58A day maybe. Yeah, with Marvin, Cheryl for
- 23:03YEAH. But, you know, like, I think the
- 23:05stranger seemed like dog people. Like Dollface actually stuck her
- 23:08hand out for the dog to sniff and lick.
- 23:10You know, like, that's what a dog person does.
- 23:12So I think the dog was treated well at least, But the dog still
- 23:16had to watch its owners. Yeah, that's really fucked up.
- 23:18That's that Dog's gonna have a hard time.
- 23:21Yeah, what's yours? Yeah, I guess I'll, I guess I'll
- 23:25go with the dog. That's I'm glad that today
- 23:29killed the dog, but that dog had to be sitting in there and
- 23:32going. This is so fucked up.
- 23:34Yeah, kill all the people you want, but don't do anything to
- 23:37the dog, even psychologically. You just don't.
- 23:40All right? Absurd stuff.
- 23:42Absurd. Yes.
- 23:44So right here I have the dog didn't go ape shit at the start
- 23:51of the movie and that's because like, the dog is asleep.
- 23:53You're telling me the dog does not react to a sudden knock in
- 23:57the middle of the night? Maybe not.
- 24:00Not every dog is like Talia. Even whenever they break into
- 24:04the house, they broke into the house and the dog was chill
- 24:07about it. I I don't have a good
- 24:10explanation for that. It's just, yeah, so that that's
- 24:13absurd. And also, yes, this is part of
- 24:15like what you were talking about before, but it's just the fact
- 24:17that the truck takes so much damage and still keeps going.
- 24:21The truck keeps trucking. And OK, I've got a list here.
- 24:24It's got it Rams the house, it Rams into another car several
- 24:30times. It explodes.
- 24:34Still trucks. Truck still trucks.
- 24:37Yeah, Truck, Truck. It is truck truck, but like it's
- 24:40just a little bit ridiculous how like he Rams into the back of
- 24:45the police car and that kills the police car's engine Him.
- 24:49Nah, it's cool he keeps going. Mine, my absurd is, you know,
- 24:59kind of kind of overshadowed by your points with the truck
- 25:02Truck. But the family vehicle, OK, it
- 25:06runs into a house as well and it is destroyed.
- 25:11Yet man in the mask can come in and turn on the radio.
- 25:18Yeah, their cell phones wouldn't work when the screens were
- 25:21shattered, but the radio coming in clear as day.
- 25:25You know, I, I'm, I'm going to excuse that because I love that
- 25:29moment because I that's the moment that I relate to the
- 25:32most. He just like flips it on to like
- 25:34a cool like radio station right there you.
- 25:37Know, Yeah, that and honestly, that time of night, it makes me
- 25:40think of like being in college, you know, not too far from where
- 25:45this is filmed and like just kind of shifting through the
- 25:49different radio stations and you found some like random music
- 25:52genres on late at night. Yeah.
- 25:55So I just dig that. This guy's into the 80s sense,
- 25:57pop, you know? I dig it.
- 25:59We didn't get that side of him before.
- 26:01Like he was just playing whatever LP's were at the house,
- 26:05at the family home. Yeah.
- 26:07But like when he gets his own choice, he's like, we're going,
- 26:10we're doing since that's where we're at.
- 26:12Yeah, OK. All right, is it time to read
- 26:15it? Yes.
- 26:16Yeah, yeah, I like this movie a lot.
- 26:18It's a lot of fun. It's a great follow up.
- 26:20I give it 8 and a. Half all right, I'm I'm right
- 26:23there with you. I think 8 1/2 is a fantastic
- 26:26score for this movie. It's a lot of fun.
- 26:29I always enjoy watching it and it's an it's an easy watch for.
- 26:33Me. Yeah, same.
- 26:33OK, cool. So.
- 26:35Starting average 8 1/2 Yeah, I also have one more thing to add.
- 26:40I didn't put it in the fun frags because it's not really a fact
- 26:43about the movie, but it's more of like a small world fact.
- 26:46Yeah, I have a degree of separation from Emma Bellamy,
- 26:52who does Dollface. Yeah, cuz she is the sister of
- 26:56one of the people that was in the same sorority as me in
- 27:00college. Like at the same time we knew
- 27:03each other and what not. So I didn't know her sister
- 27:06directly, but it was just kind of like, oh hey.
- 27:08And they do look a lot alike. Yeah, they're doing a showing
- 27:13here for this movie this year up where this was filmed up here in
- 27:16Kentucky. Well, and I, I recognized in the
- 27:20credits like some of the people that were like producer level, I
- 27:24think they are family like I recognize the last name as like
- 27:30a family name of their cousins. So interesting, yeah.
- 27:33Cool. Yeah, some, some ties all around
- 27:35and it could be one of those like that they got producer
- 27:37credit because they got involved because ammo was in it, but.
- 27:40Well, hey, there we go. We're starting it off with extra
- 27:43fun facts. What do you think about that?
- 27:45All right, so this movie, it begins with some $0.80 pop.
- 27:51As we've said. Yeah, and it's just truck, truck
- 27:55driving down. Thinking like total Noxzema
- 27:57commercial or what? So it's truck truck driving down
- 28:00the road and pulls into a driveway.
- 28:03It's a trailer park. So we get to knock out the door
- 28:07middle of the night. Doc doesn't do a thing but I.
- 28:11Can't imagine. No, the owners, I can't imagine.
- 28:14The owner's OK with it, though. The owner goes and yeah, it's
- 28:17the older woman here. She goes and opens the door.
- 28:21Nobody there. But that's because somebody is
- 28:25already in the house. That's right.
- 28:29So we cut to the Cincinnati skyline.
- 28:31We see Kenzie. She is being snappy and crying.
- 28:37Yeah, she's. She's upset.
- 28:39We don't know the full context yet.
- 28:41What we will eventually come to find out is that she's being
- 28:43sent to boarding school. She's had some behaviors that
- 28:46her parents say are beyond typical teenage acting out.
- 28:49She disagrees because her friend's parents didn't react
- 28:52the same way. And they're like, well, we're
- 28:53not your friend's parents, We're your parents.
- 28:54And we're doing what we think is right by you.
- 28:56That's. Right, can't read you.
- 28:58Out they the dad, Mike, he's loading the car.
- 29:03He is playing Tetris trying to get all of their stuff loaded
- 29:06in. They're all running late.
- 29:08Luke is playing a baseball game and he wants to like finish the
- 29:13game up and they're like, no, we're already running late and
- 29:17he's like, well, why can't I stay alone?
- 29:19All my friends do. And they're like, that's exactly
- 29:21why it's kind of funny because they don't seem like super
- 29:24uptight parents. But from like this little
- 29:26glimpse here it feels like. Maybe that?
- 29:30Yeah, maybe that like we don't. But again, that's the thing with
- 29:33these movies. Like we don't have context on
- 29:35what's going on in their lives beyond like this little snapshot
- 29:38at the moment before all of that becomes insignificant.
- 29:41Yeah. So things are awkward riding in
- 29:44the car on the road and two siblings getting to a little
- 29:48argument and it gets some sort of things brought up like, you
- 29:53know, they, they talk about the financial strain that the
- 29:55family's going through because the sisters having to go to
- 29:57boarding school. Yeah, the cable's being
- 29:59cancelled, which it's 2018, that was probably time for the cable
- 30:02to be cancelled anyway. Yeah.
- 30:04And they're snipping and he calls her a queef, which I just
- 30:09feel like we don't hear as an insult in movies enough.
- 30:12Yeah, they stop at a Dieter. Kenzie is just kind of like
- 30:17refusing to come in and eat with them, and they're like, she's
- 30:19punishing us. They say this a lot before shit
- 30:23starts to go down. She's being super melon
- 30:24traumatic. Yeah.
- 30:26And the mom, Cindy, she goes out there to talk to her and she's,
- 30:31you know, she's like, I wish somebody had done this for me
- 30:33when I was your age. And she goes, well, I feel like
- 30:35you're giving up on me. And that's pretty much they're
- 30:38out of stalemate because the parents have made the decision.
- 30:42They're the adults. This is happening, and Kinsey is
- 30:44a teenager. So they arrive at the trailer.
- 30:49Park, Yeah. Catalan Lake Getaway.
- 30:51It seems empty and it's because it's after Labor Day.
- 30:54It basically it's kind of like a, you know, an area people stay
- 30:58at by the lake in the summertime.
- 31:01Yeah, I mean, that's what happens.
- 31:02Yeah, yeah, it very few people stick around the lakes.
- 31:05Oh my God. Stop fighting you guys.
- 31:11Oh God, OK. They're going wild.
- 31:13The girls have gone wild. They.
- 31:17Yeah, like only the really hardcore people stay at the lake
- 31:20after like, into fall and winter.
- 31:22Yeah. So yeah, you know, just any
- 31:25reason for us to not get any people to interfere with stuff
- 31:28You have to be secluded in a stranger's movie too.
- 31:29And this is like a nice little bit of writing because we're
- 31:33kind of like, well, how do the strangers know to leave this
- 31:37note in these keys? Because like, you know, Cindy
- 31:39had said, it's OK if we're late, I'll leave a message for Uncle
- 31:43Marv and let him know what time we'll be there and he'll just
- 31:45leave the key for us. And we find out later that Marv
- 31:50and Cheryl have like, you know, old school voicemail, like
- 31:53answering machine in their home. And so when they're in their
- 31:57killing, they hear the voicemail.
- 31:58And that's how they're like, OK, cool.
- 32:00We're going to set up where we want these people to be at.
- 32:04So they had time to like, get the lay of the land and plan
- 32:07things out. Oh, I leave.
- 32:08Yeah, yeah, that's cool. It adds an extra like element to
- 32:12it. Do you think, do we think they
- 32:14put the Chinese into the fridge? Yes, I absolutely do.
- 32:20Do we think there's like glass or poison or something in it and
- 32:23there? Is a test, you know.
- 32:25You know, like we like to be hands on, but this could be
- 32:28something for us to try. They totally ordered take out.
- 32:31They did, Yeah. OK.
- 32:33So yeah, they get the keys. They arrive there.
- 32:35Yeah. There's Chinese in the fridge.
- 32:37You know, the kids are kind of trying to keep to themselves,
- 32:40you know, on the phone, on their radio, whatever MP3 players got.
- 32:45That's like already ancient technology.
- 32:47Did you just turn 77 years old, Travis?
- 32:51Yeah, I think I did it for a second there.
- 32:53And the family's trying to get them all to play games together.
- 32:56But as she does in this movie, Kinzie storms off because she's
- 33:01upset at her parents for trying to connect with her and.
- 33:05But not before we get the first of our appearance from.
- 33:09Yes, that's. Right, Tamra home.
- 33:12It's always Tamra. It's always Tamra, But yeah, so
- 33:17they're like, well, no, you must be confused.
- 33:18And then she just kind of walks off.
- 33:20And they're also confused by that.
- 33:23And they're trying to get the kids to give up the phones, like
- 33:25you said. And it seems like maybe Mike has
- 33:28made some progress with Kenzie because she hands over her
- 33:30phone. He's like, cool, we're going to
- 33:32have one last phone free night together, playing cards with
- 33:35each other. And she grabs her cigarettes and
- 33:38walks off. So I'm off.
- 33:39And they're like, Luke, you're up.
- 33:43So yeah, he goes out there and he finds her at the playground
- 33:46and, you know, it starts to go. Well, he starts to get her to
- 33:50cheer up a little bit. So they start to walk around the
- 33:53trailer park. Yeah, he's.
- 33:53Like look at this as like a fresh start.
- 33:56You know this. You can be whoever you want to
- 33:59be at this. Place.
- 34:00It's weird because I always picture him as the younger
- 34:02brother, but he's the older brother.
- 34:03Yeah, he's, it's implied she's like 1415.
- 34:07He's 17. He's going off to college next
- 34:09year. And there's this great shot
- 34:13where I was like, is somebody sitting there?
- 34:14No, somebody's not seeing that. You know, the games that you
- 34:16play in real life when it's dark out and you're like trying to
- 34:19make out if that's a real shadow or if it's, you know, what are
- 34:24you seeing? And then it moves and you're
- 34:26like, OK, yeah, that's that's one of the strangers.
- 34:29Yeah, so we're back at the trailer.
- 34:32The mom and the dad, I I didn't get their.
- 34:34Names Mike and Cindy. Mike and Cindy, they're having a
- 34:37moment. They have some time away from
- 34:38the kids. They're yeah, they.
- 34:39Have to strike something up. Well, at first they're like,
- 34:42we're making the right decision, right?
- 34:43Are we making the right decision?
- 34:44We're making the right decision. They're having all this go on.
- 34:47And then Mike's like, but hey, we get to have sex on the couch
- 34:49again. Yeah, great point.
- 34:51Mike Yeah, it's a good point. There you go.
- 34:53Way to go, Mike. Yeah, and they're about to do it
- 34:55right there, but they here knock at the door again.
- 34:59Mike goes to check it's Dollface again.
- 35:01Yeah, Sam's mask. Sam's mask, yeah.
- 35:05And he's like, are you lost? You need help.
- 35:07And then she just walks away. And she walks across the other
- 35:10side of the street, stops, turns around, and then just stares at
- 35:13him for a little bit. And then he notices as she walks
- 35:16away that the light bulb up there next to it had been
- 35:19unscrewed a little bit. The light was not turning on.
- 35:22So he squeeze it back in. So they've been fucking.
- 35:24Yeah, I think that's one of those things I would probably
- 35:27actually shit my pants if we ever or had like a knock on the
- 35:30door and then I found out. That I wasn't going on.
- 35:32Yeah, yeah. I would not open that door.
- 35:34But honestly like I want not the trilogy we got but I want a New
- 35:41Strangers movie where like doorbell cameras are involved.
- 35:46You could definitely do that, yeah.
- 35:48Is Tam at home? No, go away.
- 35:51I'm not even home. That's it.
- 35:52That's the. Movie, Yeah.
- 35:54Yeah, it's done. But in theaters, they'll do
- 35:58better. Yeah.
- 36:00Yeah. But yeah, Cindy is correctly
- 36:03weirded out. She's getting a gut feeling
- 36:05about all this. She's like, let's get the kids
- 36:07back in here because I don't like what's happening.
- 36:09And Mike's like, you know what might be overacting, But
- 36:12sometimes you got to trust you got, let's go ahead and do this
- 36:14thing. So Kinsey and Luke have found a
- 36:18trailer with the door open, and naturally they're like, let's go
- 36:21in. And as you do and they find some
- 36:25bourbon in the cabinet and looks like OK, find one shot and he
- 36:29goes four and he goes 2 and she goes deal.
- 36:33Good bargaining right there. Except they haven't realized for
- 36:36some reason, even though it's implied that they've been here
- 36:39dozens of times before. This is Marvin Cheryl's trailer.
- 36:45Oh, because they're about to find their bodies.
- 36:48Yeah, you're right. I hadn't even thought about
- 36:49that. Huh.
- 36:50Like it's weird because it's implied that they've been up
- 36:53there plenty of times, that they know them.
- 36:55They maybe don't know their way around the park super well, but
- 36:59it doesn't seem like this. Is, you know, the first time
- 37:01that's another thing here. Like people keep, they keep
- 37:04getting lost in this trailer park.
- 37:05Like I, I don't think the trailer parks are that intricate
- 37:08where you get like twists and like.
- 37:10I don't. Know if this is different?
- 37:12Because it's like a lake resort type type of trailer park.
- 37:16It could be, I don't know. Because it's not like it's a
- 37:18vacation home type of situation. Yeah.
- 37:21Well, either way, they go into the bedroom because they hear
- 37:25something knock in there. So they go check it out and they
- 37:28enter and they see a bed sheet. Yeah, well, at first they the
- 37:32knocking is the dog trying like, oh, it's the dog.
- 37:34The dog is like, Oh my God, somebody's here, let me out.
- 37:36And even now the dog isn't barking.
- 37:38The dog's just like politely knocking on the door.
- 37:40You're like, hey, can you, can you let me out?
- 37:42Please, Jesse, I knew that was going to happen as soon as you
- 37:46started doing that. Time.
- 37:48That was me. It was me.
- 37:50Oh. Boy I'm Plaza.
- 37:53So yeah, the dog is the opposite energy of Talia.
- 37:57Talia. That was her commentary, right?
- 37:58There, Yeah. So the dog did this.
- 38:00Yeah, yeah, the dog runs out and they are kind of looking around.
- 38:06They don't notice the bloody sheets at 1st, instead they
- 38:10ignore the elephant in the room and they go check the window and
- 38:16there's hello written a bunch of.
- 38:18Times. Oh yeah, yeah, I forgot.
- 38:19About that and then they turn around and they see the sheet
- 38:22over 2 bodies that are like poised upright and have just
- 38:26absolutely been mutilated, almost like the rusty nail
- 38:29special. Yeah, they actually got really
- 38:31fucked up. Like it was a really brutal
- 38:33death, so yeah. They, they run out, they run out
- 38:38and then they realize that they're lost.
- 38:40Except it's okay because they've run into Megan, Cindy and
- 38:44they're telling them what's happening.
- 38:46And you can kind of see them being, cuz on the one hand,
- 38:50they've had this gut reaction. On the other hand, Kinsey seems
- 38:54like she's been a real shit to them lately.
- 38:57And Luke's like, no, I saw it too.
- 38:59I'm telling you. Luke says it.
- 39:03He knows it's. True.
- 39:04Yeah. So Mike tells Cindy and Kenzie
- 39:06to go back to the trailer they're staying in, lock the
- 39:09door and call 911. He's going to have Luke take him
- 39:12to where they found the bodies. I don't understand what the
- 39:17purpose is, because if you're already calling 911 like, what
- 39:20are you going to do about it? It's weird because these people
- 39:22treat their cell phones like landlines.
- 39:24They leave them at the the trailer.
- 39:27Which like, don't get me wrong, I have a habit of just kind of
- 39:32leaving my phone lying around and I have a habit of not
- 39:35charging it. I would absolutely be that
- 39:36stereotype in a horror movie, as I've said multiple times on the
- 39:39show, but I think out of a family of four, it's very
- 39:43unrealistic that all four cell phones were left.
- 39:46Yeah. Yep.
- 39:48So they they, OK, so there's like a little split action going
- 39:53on here. Let's talk about Cindy and
- 39:55Kinzie first, OK? Cindy and Kinzie go back to the
- 39:58trailer and they lock the door and Kinzie realizes that the the
- 40:06phones are smashed as her mom is kind of like.
- 40:10Trying to talk through some of the stress that's happening and
- 40:12then he's like, oh shit. So she calls me one.
- 40:16She's able to kind of make a call, but there's a bad
- 40:18connection because of a cracked screen I.
- 40:20Don't I? It doesn't make much.
- 40:23I don't know. Maybe they messed up the
- 40:24microphone. Maybe.
- 40:26I don't know. Maybe I don't.
- 40:28It's a stretch. It's a.
- 40:29Stretch. It's a stretch I get they had to
- 40:32just get rid of the cell phone somehow.
- 40:33I think it would have been funnier if the strangers had
- 40:36just filled up the sink with water and just dropped the
- 40:41phones in there. Yeah, I think that would have
- 40:43been just as effective. Yeah, for sure.
- 40:45Yeah, but it doesn't matter because Dollface is in the
- 40:50kitchen and Kinsey, when it comes to fight, flight or
- 40:54freeze, you would think she'd be a fighter.
- 40:56Nope, she's she's a freezer. She all taught.
- 40:59Yeah. Yeah, well, The thing is, they
- 41:01went for the knife. They found that Dollface already
- 41:04took the knife. Yep, Yep.
- 41:05So yeah, yeah, they're fucked. So they run into the bathroom.
- 41:08They noticed that there's a skylight in there.
- 41:10So mom gonna get Kinsey out? And they have like, they have
- 41:16the quickest, like most heartfelt mother daughter moment
- 41:20and she's calling her mommy and it's so sad.
- 41:23Sad. That's and you were such a shit
- 41:25to her before she was. She asked.
- 41:28That's one of those ones. You're just going to always feel
- 41:30guilty about that. Yep.
- 41:31And so her mom gets hurt through the sky and she's like, you got
- 41:34to run, you got to run, you've got to run.
- 41:35And then she watches her mom like the door gets busted in and
- 41:39she watches her mom get stabbed. Yep.
- 41:43Meanwhile we have Luke and Mike who have made it into the house
- 41:47there. And yeah, Mike sees the party,
- 41:50so he believes it now. Yeah, and this is where we see
- 41:53the answering machine is blinking red.
- 41:56And when they hit it, they realize that's how the strangers
- 41:59knew they were coming. And he goes, hold on, I know
- 42:04Marv has a gun. Yeah, and that's what I'm
- 42:07saying. Clearly they've been here a lot.
- 42:10Yeah, yeah, I, you know, whatever.
- 42:12I do. Do you really think that these
- 42:14two parents are going on a vacation to see Cindy's aunt and
- 42:19uncle and they won't leave their kids alone as full teenagers?
- 42:23Do you think that they're just regularly coming to the Catlin?
- 42:26Like escapes all the time without the kids.
- 42:29Yes, all the time, every day. All right, so they hear rocks
- 42:34being thrown outside. And then one of the windows
- 42:37gets. Busted.
- 42:38Yeah. So they look outside and they
- 42:40see bad head. He's bad head.
- 42:42He's bad head, that's what. He's in my notes.
- 42:44Eyes, yeah. And he's just standing out there
- 42:45with an X waiting for them. So creepy.
- 42:48Yeah, that's not a sight you wanna see cuz I feel like I
- 42:52could like he's just a guy. Like I could probably run faster
- 42:57than him, but like you can't. He's got an axe, man.
- 42:59He's got a bag on his head. Like, I can't understand how
- 43:03creepy this is, just having a bag on your head.
- 43:06That's all it takes. And so Mike decides he's going
- 43:08to threaten him with a gun, and he thinks it's worked because
- 43:12Baghead is gone. But what he doesn't know is
- 43:15Baghead is up to Shenan's. That's right.
- 43:19So they're like, OK, we're going to get in the car.
- 43:21So they get in the car and wait, Is that happening or no?
- 43:25That happened. No, they run back to the
- 43:27trailer. They were staying again.
- 43:29That's right. And that's where they find
- 43:31Cindy. Yes.
- 43:32And then they're like, OK, we've got to get in the car and find
- 43:35Kinzie and get out of here. Right, so that's what they do.
- 43:37They start driving around the park, hollering for Kinzie.
- 43:41As they're driving, somebody throws, I'm thinking like a
- 43:43brick or a cinder block or. Something I wrote brick in my
- 43:46notes because it was more than a rock.
- 43:48Yeah, if it was a cinder block, I think that actually killed.
- 43:51Yeah, I feel like a cinder block, like also if somebody can
- 43:55throw a cinder block that far and that precise, like I'm not
- 43:59one at hand. That's true.
- 44:01It's not like there's no way. Yeah, yeah, that's true.
- 44:04That's creepy. That's terrifying.
- 44:06So yeah, it causes him to swerve into a house and the damage is
- 44:11bad. The one of the posts of the deck
- 44:14or whatever has gone through the mic.
- 44:17Yeah, like on his lower right part of his stomach.
- 44:22I understand that sounds really specific, but you all will
- 44:25understand why and why why I'm pointing that out.
- 44:29And yeah, so he like, there's no getting it out.
- 44:31Luke tries to get it out of him. He's like, listen, you've got to
- 44:34go. Take the gun, Take the gun.
- 44:37Find your sister, go to the office, call for help.
- 44:41I don't know that he actually said the go to the office part,
- 44:43but Luke figured it out. Yeah.
- 44:45Yeah, very clear instructions. Yeah, so Luke goes.
- 44:49And dude, and you can see back head in the background just
- 44:52watching. I love those out of focus shots.
- 44:54Batman. Loves to alert.
- 44:56Yeah. And then he, like, walks off
- 44:58screen and then he sees or like Mike sees him in the passenger
- 45:02seat because he just like, opens the door and crawls in.
- 45:04And he's some, too. He's just, he's like, please
- 45:08don't please. So like.
- 45:10There's a reason with. Them.
- 45:11Yeah. He's like please just leave me
- 45:13and my family. Realistically I think he like he
- 45:16could have probably survived for a while if he's like, dude
- 45:18what's your like, favorite band? Like clearly this guy loves
- 45:21music. Go go's right.
- 45:23Yeah, like, come on, let's talk about like Huey Lewis, you know,
- 45:28like, surely he wants to talk about.
- 45:30That Yeah, yeah, I. Think so.
- 45:32Genesis, you know, before Phil, before Phil went so low.
- 45:39All right, so God, what happens here?
- 45:42Now we are Kinzie seeing the truck like truck truck.
- 45:48That's right. Yes.
- 45:49And she kind of is like tiptoeing towards it and she
- 45:54realizes very quickly that it's not a friendly because lights
- 45:57come on and it starts driving towards her.
- 46:00And so she goes and hides on the playground and one of those like
- 46:03giant tunnelly things and she's. Oh wait, we missed the part
- 46:11where she went inside the trailer.
- 46:14So wait, did we? Yeah, she enters a trailer and
- 46:19like she hears like a squeaky noise.
- 46:21No, that's not yet. That's not yet.
- 46:22No, I'm sorry. We got the playground first.
- 46:25So she goes to the playground, he's driving around trying to
- 46:27get to her and she says please just leave this alone.
- 46:31And then pinheads in the tunnel where there's like, but we've
- 46:34just. Started.
- 46:35Scary. Scary as fuck.
- 46:38I don't care if it's not realistic.
- 46:39You guys. These people were moving like
- 46:41fucking ghosts in the first one too, sneaking around me in a
- 46:46million places at once. I'm not like it's scary.
- 46:49It's just who they are. Yeah.
- 46:50Just to enjoy it. And I'm a person who jump scares
- 46:52work for. That works for me.
- 46:54Yeah, same. So she screams, and then we kind
- 46:59of cut to Luke. Let's see.
- 47:04Do, do, do. Yeah.
- 47:06Oh, that's why. Because we kind of, we finished
- 47:08up Mike and Luke's story before we went back to Kenzie.
- 47:11That's why your notes got confused, because now Luke is
- 47:15running around looking for Kenzie.
- 47:17He goes back into the trailer because Kenzie's in there.
- 47:20She hears the squeaky toy. And.
- 47:22She goes in and it's a jack-in-the-box, which is the
- 47:26creepiest of all children's toys.
- 47:28I don't know why those are allowed to exist.
- 47:31Yeah, I mean, honestly, and I think she should have known
- 47:34better because like, you only get those things to work by
- 47:36somebody like cranking it in the moment.
- 47:38So somebody's in there, yes, And fucking with.
- 47:41You it didn't go far and it's proven immediately because doll
- 47:44face jumps out and stabs her in the arm and the leg and that's
- 47:48when Luke comes in, holds the gun up to her and is like drop
- 47:52the knife. And he doesn't shoot.
- 47:55And he doesn't shoot and Doll Face realizes he's not going to
- 47:58shoot. So she kind of starts taunting
- 47:59him because he's like, give me the gun, I will shoot her.
- 48:01She would have. She's like, yeah, she absolutely
- 48:03would have. She was like, I froze one time.
- 48:05No more freezing. It's all fighting now.
- 48:09But yeah, so they they end up running and the truck is
- 48:15following them. Yeah, they're, they're being
- 48:17chased by the truck. So they come across this
- 48:19trailer, windows open, so they climb into this the trailer
- 48:22there. And that's where Luke takes the
- 48:24opportunity to kind of like patch her up a little bit.
- 48:26And she starts crying and she's blaming herself saying this is
- 48:29all her fault because, you know, they were doing all of this to
- 48:32take her to boarding school. And Luke is just like they
- 48:36started joking around, like already in the reminiscing
- 48:40stages about their parents distracting the stories about
- 48:42when they were younger. And it's just, it's heart
- 48:45wrenching because they're so young.
- 48:46And yeah, it's really unfortunate.
- 48:48It's sad, but you know what? Hey, they have they have their
- 48:52Christine moment because bag head drives through the house.
- 48:57Absolutely. We get it.
- 48:58We get it in this. We get we get this moment and
- 49:01you know what? I wasn't going to say it, but
- 49:03I'll go ahead and say it now. Other Miss Steven King
- 49:05adaptation opportunities that tunnel in a playground.
- 49:09There's a terrifying scene of that in the novel of The Shining
- 49:12that we don't get in the movie or miniseries where Danny is in
- 49:17a tunnel in a playground. And this like a little ghost
- 49:19girl is like. OK Oh, man.
- 49:24OK. So yeah, like Luke takes Kenzie
- 49:29and he hides her. He's like, I'm going to go take
- 49:32care of this shit at the office. I'll call for help there and
- 49:36we'll come get you when everything's clear.
- 49:38Yes, and she's like, no, I want to go with you.
- 49:40And he goes, you will not be able to keep up with me.
- 49:43So he hides her under a porch that is surrounded with.
- 49:48Lattice. Yeah, I almost wanted to say
- 49:52Latisse. Again, I don't know if that's
- 49:54right or wrong. Still, I don't know.
- 49:55It's lattice, is it? We've had this conversation.
- 49:58We had this conversation with some of our friends a couple of
- 50:00weekends. Ago, I don't think that they
- 50:01were certain. I think I don't think that they
- 50:04were OK. So hey, we're, we're now we're
- 50:10building up to one of the coolest moments in the entire
- 50:13movie. I already know Travis.
- 50:15He just put his hand on his hip when he was saying that.
- 50:17He was like, I don't think they were certain themselves.
- 50:20I it's on my hip, it's on my knee.
- 50:22Well, from this angle it looks. Like that paints a completely
- 50:24different image, like on the knee.
- 50:26And that's like with authority, you're like, with the hip, it's
- 50:30like, no. You're given like Nate Bargatzi,
- 50:33like, I'm not sure. It might be ladies.
- 50:38Yeah, OK. So hey, we get the policy now,
- 50:41guys. So Luke made it to the office.
- 50:44He tries to make a call, he does get a call, but the line gets
- 50:49cut as he's talking to 911. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:53And they're like, where are you? Because I I don't know the
- 50:55address for by a lake in a trailer park.
- 50:58He remembers it, though. He remembers the name of the
- 51:00place. Yeah.
- 51:01But. Actually, I don't.
- 51:02Think he even Does he get Catlin Lake?
- 51:05Does he get that? Yeah, I think he does.
- 51:06Yeah, but he it's too late because the line had already
- 51:09been cut and he's starting to hear noises people fucking with.
- 51:14Him. Yeah, he grabs a Golf Club.
- 51:16Yeah, good weapon in this moment, right here.
- 51:18And he goes out into the pool, and then suddenly all of the
- 51:21lights come. On Yep Yep, Pinhead is out there
- 51:24and he hits her and then stabs her with the ice pick that was
- 51:29used to kill his. Father, that's one of those cool
- 51:31shots I'm talking about like the 80s five to it because it's like
- 51:34quick, like crash zoom onto it and then like whack, like, I
- 51:37don't know, there's just something about it.
- 51:39This whole scene just has a lot of style to it.
- 51:42And then this like Luke, like showing up because bag head
- 51:47comes out and he's like, I killed her, I killed one of
- 51:49yours. How does it feel?
- 51:51And this is like approaching you, dragging the axe, dragging
- 51:54the axe, like that sound of it just dragging on concrete.
- 51:57Holy shit. And yeah, he's going to take him
- 52:01on. So bag head search, charging at
- 52:03him with the axe and he's missing.
- 52:05Like he's doing a really good job putting up a good fight.
- 52:07He's getting some hits in with the Golf Club, but what happens
- 52:10is who falls into the pool? Yeah, and we've got like this
- 52:14whole thing. There's just like Neon Trees.
- 52:16It's all cool. We've got Total Eclipse of the
- 52:19Heart playing, and it's diegetic like this is.
- 52:21Yeah, this is a clubhouse pool area.
- 52:24So as they start fighting in the water every time they go
- 52:27underwater, the music is good in that way.
- 52:30I just, I'm a sucker for those kinds of effects.
- 52:33I love it, yeah. It's great and he's putting up a
- 52:36good fight, but then he gets stabbed.
- 52:39And. Blood in a pool is always so
- 52:43dramatic. Yeah.
- 52:44And this looks pretty bad. And he's that's a little
- 52:48overconfident. Here, Yeah.
- 52:49He he thinks he's done it so since.
- 52:51When has he ever stabbed a person?
- 52:53Stabbed a person a time. They did it in the ending of the
- 52:59movie, the first one. They all just take turns
- 53:00stabbing. It's implied that they went
- 53:03around a few times. Though maybe I don't know.
- 53:06We didn't say that, so I can't say for sure either way.
- 53:09Like. He leaves him to bleed out.
- 53:12It's a lot of blood, to be fair. Like he's bleeding out really
- 53:14harshly. It's like a Tarantino movie, it
- 53:16looks. So much more dramatic in in
- 53:19water. You can't die to what's the song
- 53:23called again? Total eclipse.
- 53:25Yeah, you can't die to that song and it not be dramatic.
- 53:28OK, that's. True the song.
- 53:29It's dramatic. Yeah.
- 53:31Yes, anything is that like the camera stays on him for a really
- 53:35long time and you think that he's about to drown, but.
- 53:37Kinsey didn't listen to him. She followed him to the off.
- 53:40I'm not going to lie, I forgot that happened.
- 53:42Whenever we were watching this I was like holy shit she did it.
- 53:45Yeah, for some reason I thought that Luke had killed Bag Head.
- 53:51I completely forgot how this movie ended.
- 53:53I well, yeah, you know, like it made for a nursing watch through
- 53:57this time. Yeah, So she pulls him out and
- 53:59she's like, listen, I'm going to get to the main Rd. presumably
- 54:03to try and flag somebody down. She doesn't really say what
- 54:05she's getting to the main road for.
- 54:06She was just like I'm going to get to the main Rd. and the a
- 54:11truck pulls up when she's walking out and she's ready to
- 54:14be suspicious. Except this time it's a cop and
- 54:17she is kind of like going 1,000,000 miles a minute trying
- 54:20to explain what's happening. She's like we're under attack
- 54:23and the cop is like OK hold on a second.
- 54:26Except then doll face just comes up and slits his.
- 54:28Neck. Oh God.
- 54:29Brutal and fast. And then she decides that she's
- 54:33going to try and stab at Kenzie some more.
- 54:34But Kenzie gets into the car and she's like, cool, I'll just
- 54:37drive away in this car. No using the radio, whatever.
- 54:43She was panicking. There was a lot happening and it
- 54:46didn't matter anyway because Dollface had the keys because
- 54:48the cop took them out when he got out of the vehicle, I guess.
- 54:53Yeah, I don't, I don't know. This is like the one time in a
- 54:56horror movie where somebody didn't conveniently leave their
- 54:59keys in a vehicle. Yeah, so she goes for the
- 55:03shotgun, but Dollface gets some pretty good looks and gets some
- 55:08cuts on her, but she gets the shotgun working in time and
- 55:10blast her. Yep.
- 55:12And then she's like, why are you doing this?
- 55:14And she's like, why not? And so she shoots her again.
- 55:17I. Like that, they changed it.
- 55:19It's not because you were home because.
- 55:20Because. We knew you were coming.
- 55:23Yeah, that doesn't have the same way.
- 55:25I just like. But they did know that they were
- 55:26coming. That could have been one.
- 55:29Yeah, I don't know. Well, and she double taps, so
- 55:32dollface is. Dead dead.
- 55:33Ashley did that with her hands. Cut the fuck up.
- 55:36Yeah, it's gotta hurt adrenaline though.
- 55:38You went. In and so she gets back into the
- 55:40car and she's trying to get to start except bag head comes up
- 55:44in truck, truck hits it from behind.
- 55:47It's it fucks up the engine and it just drives off.
- 55:51And for a minute I thought he was going to like, pull the
- 55:53window down and like, mean mug tip his hat, like staring at the
- 55:59blank page. And something.
- 56:00Like that and he drives what I assumed was to go back to the
- 56:05office and make sure that Luke was actually dead.
- 56:08So he was just doing a very wide turn around so he can come, ran
- 56:11the car from the side, and she just kind of flops out of the
- 56:17vehicle at that point. And she realizes that the car is
- 56:23leaking gas and that it's very fortunate for her that smoking
- 56:26makes you look cool because she's got a Zippo lighter in her
- 56:29pocket. Zippo lighters make you look
- 56:30cool too, yeah? Yeah.
- 56:32And so she tosses it on there. Big ol explosion bag heads in
- 56:38the truck, he's on fire, everything's crazy.
- 56:42You think she's one? Awesome.
- 56:44So she's like cool, now I can limp towards the main road to
- 56:49try and flag somebody down, except the truck is like
- 56:53following her on fire. And this is great because like I
- 56:57know part of it's because he's dying, but also I think it's
- 57:00still him just wanting to fuck with her because he could just
- 57:03run her over. He did end this but he's just
- 57:06like following her and even when she like drops like literally
- 57:09drops down to a crawl, he slows down too.
- 57:12I I know that none of this makes any sense in this moment, but it
- 57:16is like so fun and so cool. That's the.
- 57:18Power of the 80s nostalgia of this movie, because think about
- 57:23how many 80s horror movies don't make any goddamn sense, but
- 57:28they're fun. Yeah, it works.
- 57:29It works well here. And he comes out and like his
- 57:33mask is like melted. To his face.
- 57:38Oh my God, it's snarly. It's.
- 57:39So gross. And he's got a giant Shard of
- 57:42glass, and it's TomTom. He pulls it out.
- 57:45He pulls it out and he drops and he's like, cool, now he's dead.
- 57:51And she gets up and she's walking and she finds a truck.
- 57:55She's like, I don't this could go one of two ways.
- 57:57It's been a weird night, except it's a mom and her son.
- 58:00And the mom gets out. She's like, Oh my God, what's
- 58:01wrong? And she's just like, you know,
- 58:03it's just really bad. And then the mom starts running
- 58:05back to her truck screaming because that head is still
- 58:09fucking alive and he's still coming after.
- 58:11Her the next. And I don't blame them all cuz
- 58:14like she's got her son in there. She did.
- 58:16This could be one of you hear. Her I do this all the.
- 58:18Time, yeah. I'd be out of.
- 58:19Somebody faking being in distress so that way, then
- 58:23there's like an organized attack.
- 58:25So the mom gets back in her truck and starts driving.
- 58:28Kinzie's like, Nope. I've seen, I've seen Texas
- 58:31Chainsaw, I've seen Halloween four and five.
- 58:34She jumps into the back of the pickup bag heads.
- 58:37Like I've also seen those movies, never quite finished
- 58:39them. Kind of a weird choice on my
- 58:41part. I always stop him about two
- 58:43minutes before the end. He watched Halloween 4, not
- 58:45Texas Chainsaw Master because he climbs on the truck.
- 58:48Fair. And he's getting in there, he's
- 58:50almost getting in the back of it.
- 58:51But Kinzie finds the golf, or like a baseball bat, just find.
- 58:56Something in the back, as there always are in the back of the
- 59:00pickup, and he hits him, knocks him off, and then we have her
- 59:06like soaking in the glory of the morning.
- 59:10I thought this would have been a nice place to end the movie.
- 59:13Instead we cut to the Hostel confirmation.
- 59:16Luke is. Yeah, he's, he's in bad shape.
- 59:20Yeah, he's intubated, which means he is not conscious.
- 59:23Yeah. And I appreciate the, like,
- 59:28realism there because Kenzie's like in her grippy socks.
- 59:32It's very clear that like she was also admitted.
- 59:34And yeah, the other day I had a matching pair and she is just
- 59:39sitting there in his, in the chair in his little room, and
- 59:42she's traumatized and not sure what her life's about to be
- 59:48like. How are they going to pay these
- 59:49medical bills? Who the fuck knows?
- 59:51She goes to get some water. She goes to get some water and
- 59:55she hears A squeaking sound and a knock on the door and she
- 1:00:00drops her cup and in the alternate ending all of this
- 1:00:04happens except then the door opens.
- 1:00:08And the lights go. And then the lights in her room
- 1:00:12go out too. And then she screams.
- 1:00:15You hear the axe being drug on the ground too.
- 1:00:18OK, I did not make a note of that.
- 1:00:20Thank you for that. Uh huh.
- 1:00:20I mean, that's just an extra element of like.
- 1:00:23Fucking. And there's a little :) on the
- 1:00:26door. Yeah, yeah, that's right.
- 1:00:27Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:00:29So so yeah, that's how it ends. 2 times, yes.
- 1:00:34We started with fun facts and then we ended with an alternate
- 1:00:37ending. Here we go.
- 1:00:38Yeah. All right.
- 1:00:39Cool. So are you keeping your rating
- 1:00:43the same? I am.
- 1:00:44I think I am too. I think 8 1/2 is correct for
- 1:00:47this movie. It's a kind of fun.
- 1:00:48There are a few things we could tighten up.
- 1:00:50You know, like that ending. I don't.
- 1:00:52I like the you done with the hospital part.
- 1:00:54Yeah, OK. Yeah.
- 1:00:56I mean, I, you know, like, I don't know, like I took it more.
- 1:01:01My take on it is it's like PTSD, Like I don't think that they're
- 1:01:05actually alive or. Anything like that.
- 1:01:06And that's why, like, I prefer the original ending to the
- 1:01:10alternate ending. Yeah.
- 1:01:12But I also like, you know, and it is like, very much an homage
- 1:01:16to those 80s movies. So kind of ending it the same
- 1:01:20way that like Friday the 13th ended.
- 1:01:22Yeah. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:01:24Yeah. Talia.
- 1:01:27She was awake, at least for the first part.
- 1:01:28She made a point of watching the skyline.
- 1:01:32She. That's her place.
- 1:01:33She had her own moment of like, Oh my God, this character is so
- 1:01:37stupid. This is not how you would act in
- 1:01:38that situation with a dog. Yeah, with Mark and Sheryl's
- 1:01:41dog. So I think Talia, like, this is
- 1:01:43a good movie for her. It's also an easy watch, but
- 1:01:46it's also like a, oh, my God, can you be any more
- 1:01:48stereotypical? So I think she'd give it a 7.
- 1:01:51Seven, OK, I think that's fair. Who's Zoe's ultimate warrior?
- 1:01:56Tough I think it's going to be Dollface because Dollface I feel
- 1:02:01like is the one that likes to play with her food the most.
- 1:02:04What happened? And Cordelia just attack you.
- 1:02:06Yeah, I'm trying to mark down these notes and she, she was.
- 1:02:10Over here she was on that. Panel, Yeah.
- 1:02:12Yeah, yeah. No, I think it's Dollface
- 1:02:15because I think Dollface plays with her food the most and Zoe
- 1:02:18eats the slowest. OK, that's that's my only
- 1:02:21justification for that. All right, Cordelia, what are
- 1:02:25your thoughts on the movie? Is it a hoot or a holler?
- 1:02:27Well, I can get it. There we go.
- 1:02:29OK, wait. Say again.
- 1:02:33What was it? OK, Good job.
- 1:02:37Thank you Cordelia for that insight.
- 1:02:39I mean, I can't argue with that. I mean, that's facts right
- 1:02:43there, spitting facts. Just about to jump on Scout
- 1:02:46right now. Oh.
- 1:02:47Boy. OK, who'd you relate to?
- 1:02:52So I related to Mike because he got stabbed with a fucking deck
- 1:02:57post in the bottom right quadrant of his stomach and
- 1:03:00that's where my bleeding issue was and that's where I am.
- 1:03:05No joke, I'm it's like I'm wearing a purple belt right now.
- 1:03:09Your purple belt. Yeah.
- 1:03:10You study Kung Fu. Yep.
- 1:03:13It's, it's, you know, when that happened, I was like, wow, I
- 1:03:17feel super immersed in this movie because I know exactly how
- 1:03:19Mike feels right now. Yeah, that's like a whole other
- 1:03:22level of being able to relate. Yeah, 10 out of 10 absolutely
- 1:03:26recommend get surgery before watching a movie so you can
- 1:03:30relate to the injuries. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:31Cool. I'll do that next time then.
- 1:03:34I think I, I think I related to told Baghead there I like to say
- 1:03:42some music. OK, I was going to say which
- 1:03:45which part? Yeah, like I, I liked it.
- 1:03:47I like to say some music. He fucking rules.
- 1:03:50He's also just fucking creepy. I love that character so much.
- 1:03:53Yeah. OK, do we have A tag on?
- 1:03:59I I like my punch up. I've never overestimate the
- 1:04:03kindness of strangers. OK.
- 1:04:05I like that too. That's that's good.
- 1:04:07I'll do that too. It's a little punch up.
- 1:04:08All right, all right, Dream sequel.
- 1:04:12OK, like I said, I want something that's like takes into
- 1:04:16account like doorbell video cameras.
- 1:04:19Well, OK, well First off, do we go from like a true sequel to
- 1:04:23this or do we split off? Like do we go from the original
- 1:04:27and do a sequel to that one? Because like if, if we do a
- 1:04:32sequel to this one right here, you have to bring them back as
- 1:04:34like supernatural ghosts, like people.
- 1:04:37Yeah, I kind of want to do. Or they could be Michael Myers
- 1:04:41and Halloween 4 again, all burnt up and super strong.
- 1:04:44I just wanted to be kind of nebulous, like, where in the
- 1:04:49Canon does this belong, you know?
- 1:04:51Are these the? Same strangers, yeah.
- 1:04:54Like we just kind of, we icebox it.
- 1:04:57We don't really address it. My I, it has to be the same
- 1:05:00people because I I don't like the idea of it being just
- 1:05:03anybody. You mean you don't want them to
- 1:05:07like? It's not spoil anything.
- 1:05:09It's not spoil anything. OK, OK.
- 1:05:12Is there, I'm sure there are plenty of people that haven't
- 1:05:14watched it that might what, like they're waiting for the
- 1:05:17Supercuts. Jesse, we're going to watch the
- 1:05:19Supercuts. Yeah, we're going to go watch
- 1:05:21the Super. We're going to take our happy
- 1:05:22asses and go watch that in the theater and then be pissed.
- 1:05:24Off It might be a lot better as a supercut, honestly, we.
- 1:05:28We've been so optimistic throughout this whole franchise
- 1:05:31we have, but OK, yeah, I just want to leave it kind of
- 1:05:37nebulous. I want it to be the same
- 1:05:38strangers, but we don't really address where.
- 1:05:41Like what? It could be is Canon, yeah,
- 1:05:44between killings of the first one and the second one or
- 1:05:46something like that. Because I wanted to.
- 1:05:48I wanted to have TV logic where it's like, well, this technology
- 1:05:54didn't exist until. Whatever.
- 1:05:56Fucking year. But we're pretending that I
- 1:05:59don't care about that shit. I want modern technology.
- 1:06:03I don't have to think too much about it.
- 1:06:04This is not a franchise like where I should have to think
- 1:06:06about continuity too much. I just want people being creepy,
- 1:06:09killing strangers that are going through familial drama.
- 1:06:11Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:06:13So yeah, we don't have to get into the nitty gritty details of
- 1:06:17that either. I mean, that's just how you
- 1:06:19that's the basic outline to any Strangers movie, and I'm OK with
- 1:06:22keeping that formula going, Yeah.
- 1:06:24All right, what would Dom do? Well, I think Dom would have
- 1:06:30gotten that police car to like go like everybody.
- 1:06:34Like it all plays out the same, like everybody dies except for
- 1:06:37Dom. But because, you know, Dom, like
- 1:06:41the Fast and Furious crew, can't stand up against this crew right
- 1:06:45here, OK? But Dom, yeah, he gets that car
- 1:06:48to go and he's able to escape in time.
- 1:06:50Except I want there to be a chase scene with the flaming
- 1:06:54truck, but Dom's also in a flaming car, but he doesn't get
- 1:06:57burnt through the power of plot armor.
- 1:06:58It's like the car in Fast and Furious 5 that explodes on him
- 1:07:02as he's racing. He does that, yeah, because he
- 1:07:05like, he unlocks a hidden potential in whatever vehicle is
- 1:07:08he's in. Exactly, Yeah.
- 1:07:10OK. I think that's it for that
- 1:07:14stuff, right? I did pull a review.
- 1:07:17Yeah. Wait.
- 1:07:19Oh yeah, Yeah, we do that one first, right?
- 1:07:23And this normally I try and pick reviews that actually explain
- 1:07:30like the problems people actually have with the movie.
- 1:07:35This one I picked just because they were so unnecessarily
- 1:07:43passionate with how they wrote this.
- 1:07:45Every sentence ended with an exclamation point that's not
- 1:07:47going to read it. OK, good.
- 1:07:50This film is about a daughter character who went to boarding
- 1:07:52school. The family decided to stay in
- 1:07:54their relative's house along the way.
- 1:07:56As it turns out, the both the people in the house were already
- 1:07:59murdered by three masked unknown people, two female and 1 male.
- 1:08:04Entire film is wasting too much time to set up the killing
- 1:08:07scene. Facing is also too slow, full of
- 1:08:11plot holes. The film even indicates it's a
- 1:08:14true event, but instead it's not realistic at all.
- 1:08:18The first killing scene when both mother and daughter
- 1:08:20character lock in a room. The killer waiting too long to
- 1:08:25break in. Still the killer managed to stab
- 1:08:27the mother to death. The daughter runs away from the
- 1:08:30roof. Most dumb one is the father's
- 1:08:34dead. Wait, like the roof is chasing
- 1:08:36her? She's running away from the
- 1:08:37roof. Yes.
- 1:08:39OK. Just wanted to clarify.
- 1:08:41He crashes the car with his son. He let his son go, sure his leg
- 1:08:45can't move, his head sure can, right?
- 1:08:49This is the only one that doesn't have an excavation.
- 1:08:53He counted himself down there, just his head.
- 1:08:55Why don't he try to fight the killer with his head?
- 1:08:59Or why he doesn't even unlock his seat but then just wait to
- 1:09:02be killed? The son can easily break into
- 1:09:06his shop without any force of entry.
- 1:09:09Both daughter and son characters don't even ask anyone in the
- 1:09:12neighborhood for help, just scream nonsense all the way.
- 1:09:16When escaping along the road, the son character easily hit a
- 1:09:21female mass killer with his back in it eventually rapidly stabbed
- 1:09:24her to death. What?
- 1:09:26So we're just getting a recap of the movie here.
- 1:09:29He later gets hurt by another killer with an axe and falls in
- 1:09:32the pool and saves by the daughter character.
- 1:09:35The daughter character kills another female mass killer with
- 1:09:37a shotgun in the car. Another dumb scene.
- 1:09:40The daughter burns the car drive by the male killer when he fails
- 1:09:45to ram her. Then he still managed to drive
- 1:09:48again and get out to kill the daughter again.
- 1:09:51He passed out after that. Oh my.
- 1:09:54God, he awakens again and tries to kill the daughter who already
- 1:09:57escaped at the back of a car. Jesus Christ the male killer hit
- 1:10:02by the daughter. Most frustrating scene is the
- 1:10:05very end. Both son and daughter characters
- 1:10:08sent to the hospital and end with the cliffhanger scene
- 1:10:11musters the male killer character not dead yet.
- 1:10:16I I've been translating a lot of these sentences.
- 1:10:19I don't know what that one was meant to say.
- 1:10:21Yeah, OK. Really wasting time to watch.
- 1:10:25Is that it? Yes, that was, that was, that
- 1:10:28was a lot. That's that's my next audition
- 1:10:33monologue. That right there.
- 1:10:35OK, You know that that. Yeah, I, you know, I don't even
- 1:10:39know that one mentally wore me down.
- 1:10:44So I'm really listening to an old season of Potlatum.
- 1:10:48It's cycle 13 and they were talking about one of the models
- 1:10:54is kind of given a semi narrator position by, you know,
- 1:10:57production. But the way she describes setups
- 1:11:00always sounds like a dream. Like we arrived to this theater
- 1:11:03and there's a famous person there and also a chair and like
- 1:11:07like given the narrator role, but maybe not super suited for
- 1:11:10it. And that's what this review
- 1:11:12makes you think of. That's.
- 1:11:18Perfect, Yeah. OK, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:11:21I don't know. I I think one of the one of the
- 1:11:24things I heard in there was that they said the pacing was bad.
- 1:11:26And I don't agree with that, with this.
- 1:11:28I feel like this movie flew by, like there's nothing.
- 1:11:31I don't feel like it ever drags. Once it goes, it gets going fast
- 1:11:34and hard. I absolutely disagree with the
- 1:11:37pacing issue and it taking too long to set up the killing.
- 1:11:40I can see how some of those things are a little bit
- 1:11:43confusing. I don't, I don't know what this
- 1:11:44person wanted Mike to do fighting with his head.
- 1:11:47I don't know what that means. Like did they mean like with his
- 1:11:50brains or like is he supposed to head butt the killer?
- 1:11:52I think brains, but like I The thing is I just it's supposed to
- 1:12:00be a suspenseful movie. It's not like all body count
- 1:12:03these like the stranger type movies are supposed to be like
- 1:12:06long suspenseful set ups and stuff like that.
- 1:12:08You're. Supposed to get to a point where
- 1:12:10you're like Oh my God please just actually kill.
- 1:12:12Them yeah, yeah, like so I and they do that with this movie and
- 1:12:15I think it works really well here so, you know, like, I don't
- 1:12:18know, like if you don't like those types of like those long
- 1:12:20suspenseful build up scenes, you're probably not going to
- 1:12:23enjoy this for sure, but if that's your jam yeah like this
- 1:12:27movie's got tons of that. Well, it's like I was I was
- 1:12:29telling you I because I knew we weren't going to make it to club
- 1:12:34last month. I was finishing up Pet Sematary
- 1:12:38last night in bed and the whole book like, you know, it feels
- 1:12:42just like very dark and sad and depressing and like I was like,
- 1:12:46this will be fine for me to read in bed.
- 1:12:49Unlikely shining where I felt like I couldn't safely be in a
- 1:12:52dark room and I forgot how utterly bulking terrifying the
- 1:12:58last 50 pages or so hard. And I was just like sitting
- 1:13:01there in the dark going everything is shadows and
- 1:13:04everything is terrifying like it was awful.
- 1:13:08And that's how I feel like these movies are meant to be enjoyed
- 1:13:13because it's like, you've got these long setups and then you
- 1:13:17have this big cathartic release and it's you're it's it feels
- 1:13:21cathartic because it's so tense and scary up to that point.
- 1:13:24Yeah. And if that's not the type of
- 1:13:26movie you like or want to watch, that's valid.
- 1:13:29And if you don't want the killers to have a sense of being
- 1:13:32supernatural, also valid. But I.
- 1:13:36Don't think there's. Anything that come to this film
- 1:13:38for. Yeah, I don't think there's
- 1:13:39anything that suggests they're supernatural.
- 1:13:41And that's, is that something that they said?
- 1:13:43No, that's kind of like me saying that because I do think
- 1:13:47that there is like a sense of like, well, that's a little bit
- 1:13:50unrealistic. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:52But you know, I just chalk it up to the slasher movie, you know,
- 1:13:55that's all it is. Did we have listener reviews?
- 1:13:59Listener reviews? Yes, we did.
- 1:14:00Yay. All right, let's get them busted
- 1:14:02out. Busted.
- 1:14:08So let's start off over on Instagram.
- 1:14:10Yeah, I think actually they're all on Instagram.
- 1:14:14So we have Tucker, who says not as scary as the first.
- 1:14:17I'm pretty illogical at times, but it's fun.
- 1:14:19Can't be stylish in its own way and shot in Kentucky so it gets
- 1:14:22a pass 7 outs in. All right.
- 1:14:25You know, you know, the Kentucky pass is like a thing like it it
- 1:14:29bumps, it's a bump of like a whole score for sure.
- 1:14:33Yeah. But I mean, I agree it's not as
- 1:14:35scary as the first. Like I definitely like the first
- 1:14:37one is definitely the go to if you want to be creeped out.
- 1:14:41But yeah, I agree. Like it's got a less style to
- 1:14:43it. I agree with the camp comment
- 1:14:47too. This is kind of campy.
- 1:14:49All right next we have Michael E Howard who says this being the
- 1:14:54first time watching strangers pray at night I wasn't sure that
- 1:14:57I was or what I was expecting but this was not it.
- 1:15:00I was waiting for the tense scenes to happen or some fun new
- 1:15:02kills. Unfortunately this felt more
- 1:15:04like a typical slasher in the woods film.
- 1:15:06That being said, I would give this A7 as a slasher is pretty
- 1:15:10decent, but not in the same caliber as the original.
- 1:15:13Yeah. No, I get that.
- 1:15:14I get that. Absolutely.
- 1:15:15It's not the same. It's definitely not the same if
- 1:15:18you are expecting like that same amount of tension that's the
- 1:15:22first one has. Let's just, I don't know, like
- 1:15:25the way that the first one was like shot and it's just that
- 1:15:29story was more tense. All around.
- 1:15:32And I think it's one of those things too that like the first
- 1:15:37time you see it and you're expecting it to be like the
- 1:15:40first one. I can see how it would be
- 1:15:41disappointing. I every rewatch I've gone into
- 1:15:46knowing what kind of movie it is and I love it for what it is.
- 1:15:50I do too. Yeah, and it's one of those that
- 1:15:54we have the same killers but different, like protagonists.
- 1:15:57And I feel like it makes it a little bit easier for me to
- 1:15:59separate the tones of the movies.
- 1:16:01Yeah, for sure. OK, well, here's a different
- 1:16:03take. Robert of Tones says.
- 1:16:05This is second one, right? I love this one better than the
- 1:16:07first. You know what, Robert?
- 1:16:10It depends on what kind of a mood you're going for, but for
- 1:16:13me, this is what I definitely read for more.
- 1:16:14I get it, the first is my favorite picture but this one is
- 1:16:18a great one. I I can understand why people
- 1:16:19would love this one. And then we have Sammy says.
- 1:16:21That pool fight scene is so dope.
- 1:16:24Absolutely. That's the that's the peak of
- 1:16:26the movie. Whenever that part happens,
- 1:16:28that's it. Like we we know that that has
- 1:16:32hit its high point, yes. It was funny because like, we
- 1:16:35were like, oh, want to order in some food?
- 1:16:38And actually I said I wanted to order in some food.
- 1:16:40And since I just had surgery, Travis didn't say no.
- 1:16:44And we're like, well, it'll take about 20 minutes, so let's order
- 1:16:47it 20 minutes from the end of the film.
- 1:16:49And we both just like instinctively knew it was after
- 1:16:51the pool scene. We're like, this is where we
- 1:16:53this is the time where we ordered the food and it was the
- 1:16:55correct time. So we do have some stuff from
- 1:16:57Blue Sky. Also, we have Brett who just
- 1:16:59says this is a goodie, and Lord Zombie says I got my empty water
- 1:17:04bottle ready in case of an asthma attack.
- 1:17:06Wait, wrong strangers. Don't worry about it, we'll be
- 1:17:10talking about that one. My lips just went into like a a
- 1:17:14disappeared line. I'm I'm yeah.
- 1:17:20Listen, if you all again budget to your patrons and that can be
- 1:17:25past and future. Yeah, you've heard me rant about
- 1:17:29this. All of this could have been
- 1:17:30saved if he, you know, had a cool ass inhaler key chain like
- 1:17:36I do and actually understood how his inhaler worked because you
- 1:17:40don't like you don't just breathe in vaporized air.
- 1:17:45That's not that's not what an inhaler is.
- 1:17:47It's actual medication. It's a steroid.
- 1:17:50Yeah, you don't. They do.
- 1:17:52That's the difference. OK, cool.
- 1:17:55So that's it. That's it for the reviews and I
- 1:17:57think that's it for this episode.
- 1:17:58I think so, yeah. Guess what?
- 1:18:00Next week we're also gonna be kind of a bummer, but a fun time
- 1:18:04because we're talking about together.
- 1:18:06Yeah, it's my pick right now. I fucking love that movie.
- 1:18:10It's on Hulu and I get that they're owned by the same
- 1:18:12company, but this is still really fucking funny to me.
- 1:18:14It's also on Disney Plus. That is so weird.
- 1:18:18Disney is completely different than what they were when they
- 1:18:20first launched. I kinda I kinda wanna watch this
- 1:18:23on Disney when we watch it this weekend just so I can say we
