- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Hi there, I'm your host, Corinne, and this is okay but are you good?
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Were we checking on ourselves on a weekly basis to see how we're doing?
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Are we living our best lives or are we just trying to get by?
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Well, exciting news.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I finished another half marathon.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Yay! It was the Nike After Dark Tour, and it has this amazing medal that is a necklace.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: And if you don't know what the Nike After Dark Tour is, it's a race that they host around the world, and it's supposed to encourage like woman empowerment and safe environment for women running in the evenings.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: So it was really cool.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: And this is a race I was really, really looking forward to.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: And I can't believe like I did it and I got my medal, and it's cool.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: You can make it into a bracelet, and there's a lot of details on it, and it's just something fun and different than a normal race medal.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: But I really wanted to do this as soon as I found out about it, and I was fortunate enough to get in.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: There was like 12,000 people that did this, and I'm sure there's like triple that amount that wanted to actually run it.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: And this is my third race I've done this year.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I went from never running in my life to running a marathon and then running two half marathons.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And this journey started last October.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: So it's funny to like end it the same time.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: And there's so much that goes into running, and I've mentioned that so much throughout the year.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Obviously, I just think it's so good to have a goal to work towards.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And I love that it's something I can do for both my physical and mental health.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: And I've just learned so much.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: I've been injured on and off since February.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Now it's October.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: That's almost that's a long time.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And like physically I got better, but then I just wasn't healthy and like also injured on and off.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Or I just I haven't really been healthy the last four months.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I've been just dealing with like getting sick and whatnot.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And I had originally planned to super train for this and like get back into a set schedule, but because I had some health stuff come up and I wasn't able to like properly train or really train as much.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Like I was super sick the week before this race, and I almost think I almost thought I wasn't gonna do it.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm super happy I was able to, but I probably should have sat this one out, but I really wanted to do it.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: I already paid for it.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: I wanted this medal, I wanted to experience this race with all these other ladies and just do something I've never done before.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: So, as I mentioned, leading up to I was sick, didn't train.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Majority of people would have tapped out.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: I will be honest, I did walk majority of this race.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: I tried running it and my body felt so weak and so ill from being so sick the prior week.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: I was like, I can't do this.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: If I actually try and run way more, um, I'm not gonna finish it.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: So I tapped out and I just power walked that race.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I was like going into it.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: I knew I'd have to do that.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: And I was nervous that it was just gonna be me doing that.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: But there's so many other people also doing the same thing.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: They're running and walking, you know, it's just like at the end of the day, who cares?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Everyone has their own goal.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: We're all doing our own thing.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: And the cool thing is, we all have the same goal is to finish the race.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: I knew I wasn't gonna finish it with the time I wanted.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: I actually did worse this time than I did for the SF marathon, but I'm like, it makes sense.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: I didn't train and I've been sick.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: So yeah, obviously, you're not gonna do great, but I still got it done.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: I guess you can say I'm not a quitter, that's for sure.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And the cool thing about this is that it was in the evening.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And I was like, okay, I'm gonna do amazing at this because I'm not a morning person.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: It's not gonna be as hot because it's in the evening.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: I still thought it was pretty hot.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know if that's just because we're in LA.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Like I wanted it to be cold, like you need a jacket, but also like working out for three hours, like it's it's a lot, and you're sweating and whatnot.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: So it's so interesting because I had started the race, and the woman that got first place was passing by.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh, you know, like I'll probably like I'm sure the turnaround soon.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: No, like that's just how fast this person was, and they finished it in an hour and 13 minutes.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: And I know I will never be that person.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: I'm glad that's not a goal I have.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: It's just not physically in me.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: I was just talking to my friend about this.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Like, we both like running.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: We're we know we're both not really meant to be doing this sport, but we're we just keep doing it because it's just so fun and it's nice, and I like that it's just for yourself.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: And this race was interesting because it was the first race I did without my husband.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: I was a little like sad and lonely, and I regretted not like signing up with friends for this.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Obviously, it was really hard to get into.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: And I did run into some people I knew from high school, but like I haven't talked to them since high school.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: I just laugh at myself because I feel like so many other people would have just tapped out, but I just did not want to give up my spot.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: I really wanted to do this, and I was I really was nervous because I was on my own.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: So I think it's good I pushed myself and I carried through, and I like to give up just because I didn't have my husband or like a friend or family with me.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: It's like you're scared to do this alone, but that's what you love so much about the sport that it is like just all on you.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Like, make the math math, you know.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: But I'm just trying to live my best life, man.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: And I've had my setbacks and I've learned a lot.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: And you know, the route was super cool because it was in my hometown.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Like I knew it really well, and it was really special.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: And I so appreciate all the people that come out and cheer on, especially me that's like not the fastest runner out there, because like I I am slow, especially because I wasn't running, and you know, it's the best on the other side of the on the course they're cleaning up and they got the street sweepers, and you're like, okay, like I guess, you know, I'm still here, I'm still doing it, and I just I just have to laugh.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Like, I there's so many people, and I was so behind that there was like snacks and wet towels or something they were handing out, and like the tables were just clear.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: They even ran out of electrolytes at one point, and I was like, okay, like I don't know if that's a me problem or you problem for not having more of these items, but it is what it is, and you know, I just love doing this so much, but I think I'm gonna take a break.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: I think the fact that the last two half marathons I've done, I have not felt amazing, and I I think I need to like recoup and get my body physically back to how I want, build up my strength, work on my schedule.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: And you know, I still my thing my long-term goal is still to run the New York City marathon.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Like if I get in.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: And I don't even think I want to try and do it next year, like maybe 2028.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Like, it just depends on where I'm at in life because I still want something to look forward to.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: So I'm not really sure what's next, other than just like getting back on track, how I felt this time last year between October and February, before I really did get injured.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: So I guess that's my goal right now, and see what next uh race I can sign up for.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Vegas does a really cool one where they shut down the strip and you run on it at night, I believe.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: And that's like February, but I'm like, I still need more time to just like ease back into this and not do three races in one year.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Like, it's just I'm just not built like that.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: And that's okay.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: I might get a bicycle.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: I keep talking about that, so maybe I just need to like go out and buy it because that can be another form of exercise and not be like so detrimental to your body.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Just like running takes so much out of it, especially for me.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: But I just I really enjoy it, it's just so fun, and there's such a routine to it, and I think that's why I like it so much because there's so many steps to like get to your end goal, uh, versus just like showing up.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And what I've learned from running is like I know what works, what doesn't, and like really enjoy I get so nervous right before I cross the start line because I'm like, okay, the second you cross it, you have X amount of time, and you know, when I if it's a half marathon, like by the time I hit mile nine, I'm like, okay, I have this much time, like I'm good.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Uh, I like to go, even though you're not supposed to do this.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: I like to go extra, like full tank in the gas, the first few miles, so I know I'm ahead.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: So when I slack off later on, I know I'll make it through.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: I don't think that's the best strategy.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: I actually think it's horrible, but that is how I live my life.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: I just do everything backwards.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: And crossing that finish line for this half marathon, like, best feeling ever.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: I was so emotional about it because I'm like, I finally got this like metal I've been looking forward to for so long, and I felt dead though.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Um, and I didn't even stay to do.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: They had like a DJ and whatever other food and exciting vendors after.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I don't know how these people stay here and do this.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Like, I just want to go home and shower and eat.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: That was the other thing that was really hard is for this race, like it was around dinner time, and I just don't know.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Like, there's like no food.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: The only thing that saved me was someone was passing out pretzels because again, someone was passing out oranges at one point, but I was too late in the crowd to get any.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: I just have to laugh it off.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: It is what it is.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I did a marathon after being super sick, and I didn't train or a half marathon, and I didn't train for it.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Like, this is not something I recommend.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: You should be training for this stuff properly.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: Don't do it sick, don't do it injured.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: You know, I just can't give up.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: It's just so silly.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: But this marathon I don't even think was as expensive as, or this half marathon wasn't as expensive as like it could have been.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: Um, I bought this so long ago, so I don't remember.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: It just I compare everything to the LA marathon, and that's the only marathon I've done, so I don't really have any other comparisons.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: But the people of LA show up, they have so much snacks, food.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Even for us people at the end of the line, there's still food left.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: So for this one being around dinner time and like no snacks, or like I'm just too late in the game, I just felt horrible afterwards and I just desperately needed food so badly.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: So it's actually funny because I did enjoy this race so much, but I thought what I was gonna enjoy so much about it was because it was at nighttime and it was gonna be colder, and I didn't enjoy it as much because I was so hungry, because it was during dinner time.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: I guess maybe next time I pack more snacks.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: I wasn't prepared.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: I totally winged this race.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: I know what I need to do, and I just keep not doing it.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: So I think that's why I need to take a break and reevaluate my life choices and like get my strength up and possibly sign up for another one.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: I don't think I'll ever do another marathon if it's not New York City.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: I've given up the goal of wanting to get the Six Majors medal because I just know I physically cannot do it.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: There's someone online that is like around my age that's already gotten it, and it's like I love that for them.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: And I've just accepted that that's not a goal I'll be able to reach.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: My husband might be able to, but if that's what he wants to do, but just not me.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: So this is your sign.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Don't do what I'm doing, where you're just weaning these big physical events, properly trained, properly feel your body, listen to your body, know your limitations, take care of yourself, and ease into these like hardcore sports.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, ever you know your limits, do what you can, do what you want, and like basically, you know, just keep doing things, keep doing the hard things though.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Just do it properly.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Don't do it how I've been doing it because I'm just dealing with the repercussions.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: But hey, I got my medal, you know?
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: And you know, it's it feels really good to like reach a goal though.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: So take this week, think about something you want to work towards in the year on, or start beginning of next year, and we're just gonna keep getting better physically and mentally and get stronger because we out here trying to live our best lives.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: So thank you so much for listening in.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: That was my half marathon journey.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: And don't forget to ask yourself, okay, what are you good?
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: And I'll see you all next week.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: And make sure to like and subscribe.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Bye.
