- 3:47newsletter, I think you'd make a big difference, a big difference in this
- 3:52world. So let's go ahead and get into today's topics. We've got a
- 3:57new chapter in radio Replies, and then we will go to Father Sparago's exhaustive
- 4:04explanation of the Catechism. We're going to get into the subject of the resurrection
- 4:09of the body, key key point in Christian theology and doctrine. So starting
- 4:16with radio replies, the questioner asks, rather oddly of putting it, what
- 4:24is the idea of the Catholic Church? In other words, what is the
- 4:28Catholic Church? What does it mean? What does it what does it mean
- 4:31to be Catholic? Essentially? And they say, the Church is that visible
- 4:36society of men upon earth, which was founded by Jesus Christ, guaranteed by
- 4:42him to exist all days and to the end of the world, and sent
- 4:45by him to teach all nation with his own authority. It is one definite
- 4:51society for man's spiritual good, and its members are bound together by the profession
- 4:56of the same and complete Christian faith, sacraments of worship, and by submission
- 5:02to the same spiritual authority vested in the successors of Saint Peter, that the
- 5:06present successor being the Bishop of Rome or the Pope. Very important point and
- 5:12I think it's overlooked you often. You don't had a weird exchange with someone
- 5:18last night on Twitter or ex or whatever we're calling it this day these days
- 5:23who claim to be a Catholic bishop who did not believe in the sacrament of
- 5:28marriage. Yeah, that's you know, you can't be Catholic unless you profess
- 5:35and believe all doctrines of the Catholic Church. That's why it's actually hard to
- 5:41become Catholic. You know, people ask me, well, how do you
- 5:44become Catholic? And it's like, well, first of all, contact your
- 5:46the priests and your parish. Find out when there are CIA classes it's the
- 5:50right of Christian initiation for adults and start taking them. And it's really important
- 5:57that you understand all Christian Catholic doctrines, because before you can be confirmed as
- 6:03a Catholic, you have to stand before the church, the congregation, the
- 6:08priests, and everybody in the parish and profess that you know, understand and
- 6:14agree to all doctrines of the Catholic faith. If you don't, you can't
- 6:19become Catholic. If you are Catholic, if you were raised, born and
- 6:24raised Catholic. If you're a deacon and you deny the validity of the sacrament
- 6:30of marriage, you're not Catholic. You've actually excommunicated yourself. And this person
- 6:39would so far as say they have officiated over like sixty marriages or something.
- 6:46One I really have not heard of deacon's mirroring people. That's sort of the
- 6:51role of the priest. If in his diocese that's allowed, okay, but
- 6:59I can't imagine what he told those couples. Really very very, very dangerous
- 7:05for someone to be a Catholic deacon to be marrying people if they don't believe
- 7:13that in the validity of the sacrament of marriage, I mean, Jesus forbade
- 7:17divorce in all four Gospels. Marriage is a sacrament that predates the Catholic Church.
- 7:24He had an issue with that too. And you know, I kind
- 7:26of said, well, Jesus said, what God has bound together, let
- 7:30not man put asunder, meaning that it was a valid sacrament before there was
- 7:36such a thing as the Catholic Church, because he was talking to Jews.
- 7:40You know, God binds together. That means it's a sacrament. The priest
- 7:45stands in persona x CHRISTI in the person of Christ, you know. And
- 7:49it's actually it's hard to be married in the Catholic Church. You have to
- 7:53go through premarital counseling. If the priest says that this isn't a valid union,
- 7:59you don't get married. That could be for many reasons. The person
- 8:01could have been married and divorced before. One may not be Catholic and may
- 8:05have very different beliefs about the sacrament of marriage. One may be Catholic and
- 8:11not believe in the sacrament of marriage, in which case the priests could say,
- 8:13hey, wait a minute, you can't do this. They have to
- 8:16agreed to raise the children as Catholics. They can't be related as I mean
- 8:24beyond a certain degree. I mean, I guess, I don't know.
- 8:28Second or third cousins may qualify. I mean they used to I don't know
- 8:33if they still do, but certainly the Church doesn't allow inbreeding for reasons of
- 8:39the help of the children. The Church is the only authority on earth with
- 8:45the ability to annul a marriage if it was not a valid sacrament. And
- 8:50he's saying no, the you know, the man and woman marry each other,
- 8:54or the priest just officiates true true to a point. The priests absolutely
- 9:01can say no, you two can't get married. That happens a lot.
- 9:07So I don't know where this guy was coming from. And I hope,
- 9:11I mean, he was lying a lot during our debate, I should say
- 9:16argument. He kept accusing me of saying things that I didn't say and making
- 9:20stuff up. And I hope he was lying about being a deacon because he
- 9:26doesn't hold to the doctrines of the Church. And if we've got if we
- 9:33got deacons out there, and we got catechists, and we've got Catholic college
- 9:37professors that are teaching the opposite of what the Catholic Church actually holds as true
- 9:43in matters of morals and doctrines, we got a big problem. As I
- 9:50said to him, the Catholic Church is the Kingdom of God on earth.
- 9:54It has its officers, and it has its laws, and they're not they're
- 9:58inviolable. You cannot be a member of that kingdom and claim to teach a
- 10:05different doctrine. At least that's heterodoxy, which is a sin, and at
- 10:13worst it's heresy, which is a mortal sin. So you know, we
- 10:20need to get back to basics here. So the person goes on. They
- 10:24say, the church means an assembly of men united in prayer, not a
- 10:28building. Well that's at least more charitable than I've heard. I had a
- 10:33I don't even know what denomination this guy was try to tell me that church
- 10:37was Greek for circus. Well it's not. Actually circus is a Latin word
- 10:45meaning circus, not church. But anyway, this one says, is trying
- 10:50to say that it's not a building. Well, they answer, the word
- 10:52church is a twofold sense. Its proper meaning is the union of assembly of
- 10:56men, united not only in prayer, but also a definite creed worship and
- 11:01obedience. In that sense, I speak of the Catholic Church organ it can
- 11:07refer to a building erected for the purposes of worship by its members of the
- 11:11Catholic Church, and since I speak of a Catholic Church. They go on,
- 11:18what positive proof have you that the Catholic Church is the only true church?
- 11:22And they answer, the proof lies in the fact that the Catholic Church
- 11:24alone corresponds exactly to the exact religion established by Christ. Now, the Christian
- 11:31religion is the religion which A was founded by Christ personally, b has existed
- 11:37continually since the time of Christ. C is Catholic or universal in accordance with
- 11:43Christ's command to go to all the world and teach it to all nations.
- 11:46D demands that her members admit to the same doctrine. Again, you have
- 11:52to know, understand, and profess your belief, your faith in the doctrine,
- 11:56your loyalty to the doctrine. E exercises divine authority over her subjects.
- 12:03Since Christ said that if a man would not hear the Church, he would
- 12:05be as a heathen. Now the Catholic Church alone can claim a to have
- 12:11been founded by Christ personally. All other churches disappear as you go back through
- 12:15history. Christ said, thou art Peter, and upon this rock I would
- 12:18build my church. There are many claimants to the honor of being Christ Church,
- 12:24but among all non Catholics. We find one built by John Wesley,
- 12:28another on Martin Luther, another miss Eddie, etc. But the Catholic Church
- 12:33alone can possibly claim to have been built on Peter, the chief of the
- 12:37Apostles, and the Bishop of Rome. Wants the Bishop of Rome to okay
- 12:43point B to have existed in all centuries since Christ. See that everyone from
- 12:50members admits to exactly the same essential doctrines, d to be Catholic or universal,
- 12:56and e to speak with a voice of true authority in the name of
- 12:58God. So we'll pause there. On Radio replies, and let's get to
- 13:03Father Spirago. We are continuing with his explanation of the creed, and we've
- 13:09gotten to the article, article number six, the resurrects of the Body.
- 13:13I believe in the resurrection of the body, he says. The Jews had
- 13:16some sort of belief that the bodies of the dead would rise again. Job
- 13:20consoled himself in the midst of his suffering by the thought of the resurrection.
- 13:24That's Job nineteen twenty five. So too the brothers Maccabee's second Maccabee's seven eleven,
- 13:31and Martha said to Jesus, I know that my brother will rise in
- 13:33the resurrection at the last Day John eleven twenty four. Christ, on the
- 13:41last Day will raise the bodies of all men from the dead and unite them
- 13:46to the soul forever. He often declared that he would raise the bodies of
- 13:50all men from the grave, and proved his power by miracles. This resurrection
- 13:54will be heralded by many signs in nature. We proclaim in the Postles Creed
- 14:00that Christ will come to judge the living and the dead. That is,
- 14:03he will call to life the bodies of those who are already dead, while
- 14:07for those who survive till that day, such a change will take place in
- 14:09their bodies that in a moment they will die and awake again to a new
- 14:13life. That's first Thessalonians, Oh gosh, what is that for? Yeah,
- 14:20four sixteen. Those will arise who are in the grace of God,
- 14:24as well as those who are in mortal sin John five twenty eight and Matthew
- 14:30twenty five thirty one. And this resurrection will take place in a moment.
- 14:33First Corinthians fifteen fifty two. Christ announced that he would raise the dead to
- 14:39life again. The hour cometh wherein all that are in the grave shall hear
- 14:43the voice of the Son of God. And they that have done good things
- 14:46will come forth into the resurrection of life, but they that have done evil
- 14:50into the resurrection of judgment John five twenty eight twenty nine. On another occasion,
- 14:56he that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath everlasting life, and
- 15:00I will raise him up on the last day John six point fifty five.
- 15:05Our Lord compared death to sleep e g. He said that the daughter of
- 15:07Jerius and Matthew nine twenty four, and Lazarus and John eleven eleven were sleeping,
- 15:15in fact, in face of the fact of the resurrection death, what
- 15:18may well be called sleep. For Thessalonians four thirteen. The following miracles were
- 15:24performed by Christ in proof of his power to Rasadad, the raising of the
- 15:28daughter of Jerius in her own house, that of the son of the widow
- 15:31of Name before the gates of the city, and that of Lazarus from the
- 15:35grave himself. We might add his own glorious resurrection, and that of his
- 15:41virgin mother. The very truth Christ might save himself. I am in very
- 15:46truth Christ might save himself. I am the resurrection and the Life John eleven
- 15:50twenty five. Many natural phenomenas show that the idea of the resurrection is in
- 15:56harmony with the rest of nature. For instance, our own periods of rest
- 16:00and activity, the rearwakening of spring after the winter's sleep, the change in
- 16:04many insects of larva into the pupa, and the pupa again to the butterfly,
- 16:08and the coming forth of the bird from an egg, the sprouting of
- 16:12the seed buried in earth, and so on. God will awaken our bodies
- 16:17to life again to prove his justice and to honor our redeemer. If the
- 16:21soul only were rewarded, there would be want of completeness. For, as
- 16:25Tertullian says, there are many good works, such as fasting, chastis,
- 16:30and martyrdom, which can be carried out in their perfection only in the body.
- 16:33Hence, it is right that the latter should share in the ward of
- 16:37the soul. God's justice demands that the body should take part in the triumph.
- 16:41Again, Tertullian reminds us that our Savior redeemed mankind, body and soul.
- 16:47Had the body been unredeemed, the devil would have secured a triumph by
- 16:51destroying it. Such a thought is unworthy by a man came death, and
- 16:55by a man resurrection of the dead. One Corinthians fifteen twenty one. As
- 17:00to the state of our bodies after the resurrection, we have the following facts.
- 17:03One after the resurrection we shall have the same bodies as we have now.
- 17:07Two, the bodies of the just would be glorious, and those are
- 17:10the wicked hideous. Three, all risen bodies will be without defect and immortal.
- 17:17We shall have the same bodies after the resurrection for this corruptible, for
- 17:21this, for this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put
- 17:26on immortality. First Corinthians fifteen fifty three. We also learned from the Asanasian
- 17:33creed. Even Job knew it to be true. I should be clothed again
- 17:37with my skin, and in my flesh I shall see my God. That's
- 17:40Job nineteen twenty six. And one of the Macabean brothers, in the midst
- 17:45of his torments, address the tyrant, Thus, as his limbs are being
- 17:48torn away, these I have from heaven. But for the laws of God,
- 17:52I now despise him, because I hope to receive them again from him
- 17:57again. Really a true shame that Martin Luther took the Books of Maccabee's out
- 18:03of the Bible. You know, I've said before that he took the Books
- 18:07of Maccabees out of the Bible for two reasons. One, he did not
- 18:12like that Maccabe's teaches about purgatory. Two, he did not like the faithful
- 18:19Jews dying as martyrs to be true to their faith, because he had just
- 18:25rejected his faith and decided he could make another one. But again, there's
- 18:30another reason, and I haven't talked much about this. Martin Luther was incredibly
- 18:33anti Semitic. He hated Jews, and the two books of Maccabee's show these
- 18:38faithful Jews as being incredibly wholly developed people. And I think he just did
- 18:44not want anyone to know that there were good, faithful, religious, devout
- 18:48Jews. I mean, he said of several books in the Bible they were
- 18:52too Hebraic, or too Judaist, or however put, he really despised Jews.
- 19:00He wanted to kill them all. In fact, he said if a
- 19:03Jew came to him and asked to be baptized as a Christian, he would
- 19:07put an anchor around his neck and throw them in the river. I mean
- 19:11he hated Jews, and there's a whole book written about how Hitler was really
- 19:17inspired by Martin Luther's anti Semitism, So remember that next time you're debating a
- 19:23Lutheran. He continues, while Saint Perpetua and her fellow martyrs were being exposed
- 19:30to the vulgar gaze of heathens, she addressed him, thus, look well
- 19:33on mark and our faces, that you may know them again in the day
- 19:36of judgment. And her words converted many of the bystanders. For this reason
- 19:41we rise in our bodies, that everyone may receive the proper things of the
- 19:45body, according to according as he hath done, whether it be good or
- 19:49evil. Two Corinthians five ten. It is not beyond God's power to rejoin
- 19:56the scattered elements for our bodies. If he could make that which had no
- 20:00existence, he can replace that which already has in existence. Saint Thomas teaches
- 20:04us that as are just as our bodies remain the same bodies of a period
- 20:07of ten or twenty years, in which time the component elements have been renewed
- 20:11again and again. So the bodies of the origin risen will be the same,
- 20:17even supposing they are not composed of the same identical elements as before.
- 20:21It is the thought of the resurrection that makes Christians careful in the burial of
- 20:25the dead and in their veneration of relics of the saints. Our risen bodies
- 20:29will not be all alike. We shall all rise again, but we shall
- 20:33not, but we shall not all be changed. That's first Corinthians, fifteen
- 20:36fifty one. The bodies of the just will resemble the glorified body of Christ
- 20:41Philippians three twenty one, and will have the following properties. They will be
- 20:45impassable, that's Revelations or Apocalypse twenty one to four, shining like the sun
- 20:52as Matthew thirteen forty three, swift has thought, and capable of penetrating matter.
- 20:59The word spiritual is sometimes used to describe the risen body, because the
- 21:03latter will be quite subject to the spirit and freed from earthly concupiscence Luke twenty
- 21:10thirty five. The beauty of the body will be in proportion of that of
- 21:12the soul Romans eight eleven and one Corinthians fifteen forty one. The most wretched
- 21:19cripple, if he has lived a good life, will have a beautiful body,
- 21:22while one who has had every personal charm and lived a bad life will
- 21:26rise again to be an object of aversion. The bodies of sinners will have
- 21:32to suffer, and will be bound hand and foot Matthew twenty two thirteen.
- 21:37The risen bodies will be without any defect. The martyrs will recover their limbs
- 21:41and their wounds visible like Christ, will be glorious and respondent the resplendent.
- 21:48The risen bodies will also have no trace of old, age, sickness,
- 21:51or mutilation. The wicked will have their bodies also complete, but for punishment,
- 21:56for the more perfect body is, the more it can suffer. Bodies
- 22:00of the risen will be immortal. First Corinthians, fifteen forty two. First
- 22:07Corinthians, fifteen forty two. Just as in Paradise the fruit of the tree
- 22:11of life gave him immortality to the body, so now the blessed sacrament and
- 22:15communion, for it is a pledge of the resurrection and the end of immortality.
- 22:18John six point fifty five. The bodies of the damned are also immortal,
- 22:22but for their torment. Belief in the resurrection is a great help to
- 22:26us. It consoles us in our sufferings and comforts our relatives and friends when
- 22:30we come to die. Job cheered himself with this reflection Job nineteen twenty five
- 22:36again, and it was belief in the resurrection which gave the early Christians such
- 22:40courage and calm in the great persecutions. Christians who believe in the resurrection ought
- 22:45not to mourn for their dead, like the heathen, who have no hope.
- 22:48For Thethalonians four twelve Saint Cyprian, Bishop of Carthage and two point fifty
- 22:56a d used to caution his flock against such excessive grief, lest the heathen
- 23:00should come to think that Christians had no firm belief in the life to come
- 23:03knts. He considered it unbecoming to wear mourning for those who are rejoicing before
- 23:08the throne of God. Those only should be mourned for who died in mortal
- 23:12sin. So we'll wrap it up there. I think that cars it very
- 23:19well. Tomorrow we'll get into the general judgment and we'll have basically covered the
- 23:29creed, the basis of the catechism, and then we'll move on to more
- 23:34matters of morals and doctrines. We as we work our way through this,
- 23:37remember it is the exhaustive explanation of the Catechism, a total seven hundred and
- 23:42forty four pages, and believe it or not, we're just at page two
- 23:45seventy and we're not even a third way through the first book of radio replies,
- 23:52of which there are three volumes, So we got a long way to
- 23:55go. And it's you know, it's very interesting. And you know,
- 23:57after my argument with this supposed deacon last night, I realized just how poorly
- 24:03catechized, especially many cradle Catholics are. You know, as a convert,
- 24:07we had to go through the extensive, exhaustive training as adults in what the
- 24:14Church actually believes and teaches. And I think there are a lot of people
- 24:19I can think of, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, etc. Who call
- 24:25themselves Catholics, who have beliefs an absolute opposition to the teaching of the Catholic
- 24:30Church that really do need to be instructed in what the Church actually believes and
- 24:37teaches. So that's what I'm trying to do. See y'all, Please buy
- 24:40my book, the new book Daily Gospel Reflections for July through December twenty twenty
- 24:45four. If you haven't done so already, please subscribe to the SUBSEC newsletter,
- 24:51The Uncensored Catholic, but especially please share this podcast. Please share the
- 24:56newsletter in my books if you want to with all your family and friends.
- 25:00We need to grow this audience. We need to get the message out there
- 25:06far more than I can do, so on than I can do on my
- 25:08own. I mean, I really need your help in this regard. And
- 25:12you know, if you've gotten somebody to sign up for the newsletter or listen
- 25:15to the podcast, send me an email. I'll send you a free book.
- 25:18I mean, it's cool. I mean, if you have ten dollars
- 25:22to spend and you want the ebook, if you go to Amazon, you
- 25:26know it's going to be nineteen ninety five or nineteen ninety nine whatever. Amazon
- 25:32takes almost all the money. I only get a few dollars off of a
- 25:33print copy, but I'm glad to do it. I would if you want
- 25:37a print copy, I want you to have a print copy. If you
- 25:41can afford to buy a few extra copies and give them his gifts, that's
- 25:45fantastic. But the main thing is take the free information I'm giving you and
- 25:53spread it any way. You can either get people to sign up for the
- 25:56newsletter or listen of the podcast or just talk with him. You know,
- 26:02really this is this is a spiritual and intellectual arsenal. Basically, you never
- 26:08know when you're going to be confronted. You know. The guy said that
- 26:12claimed that church meant circus. You know, he considered himself to be a
- 26:18great biblical scholar. And I was an old family friend and I never would
- 26:25have thought that he would have confronted and started like yelling at me in a
- 26:30restaurant because he found out I was Catholic. And when that happens to you,
- 26:34if you've been listening to my podcast and you have my books, or
- 26:38you're getting the newsletter, you're going to have even if you haven't memorized the
- 26:44Catechism, you're going to know the essence and you're going to be able to
- 26:48defend the Catholic faith. And that is actually a Christian duty. It's an
- 26:53act of charity to correct people who have false beliefs, and it's actually a
- 27:00duty to defend the Church against apostasy and heresy and error. So y'all remember
- 27:06the words of Saint Padre Pio, pray, hope, and don't worry,
- 27:08and I will talk to you next time.
