- 0:00Speaker 1: Being confident of this very thing, that He who began
- 0:04Speaker 1: a good work in you will complete it until the
- 0:07Speaker 1: day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1.6 Dear Lord, we know
- 0:14Speaker 1: that there is no circumstance that could ever thwart the
- 0:17Speaker 1: mighty work You've been doing in our lives. You are
- 0:21Speaker 1: determined to redeem us and restore the broken parts of
- 0:25Speaker 1: our lives. we recognize that the process of sanctification and
- 0:30Speaker 1: growth takes time. Give us patience when we're discouraged. Give
- 0:37Speaker 1: us endurance when the storms of life seek to throw
- 0:40Speaker 1: us off course. The story of Christmas, the arrival of
- 0:45Speaker 1: your son, reminds us that your plans take time to
- 0:50Speaker 1: come to fruition, but they are worth the wait. So
- 0:56Speaker 1: here we are, Lord, waiting on you and declaring trust
- 1:01Speaker 1: in your timing. We love you and praise you in
- 1:06Speaker 1: all seasons. In Jesus' name, amen.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Joseph tossed and turned in his sleep. The vivid dream
- 1:21Speaker 2: God gave him before he married Mary flooded back into
- 1:24Speaker 2: his mind. the dream he had when the angels spoke
- 1:28Speaker 2: to him about Jesus. The lightning flashed again with piercing light,
- 1:33Speaker 2: and Joseph immediately found himself elsewhere. He was at the
- 1:37Speaker 2: base of a cave carved into the side of a mountain.
- 1:40Speaker 2: All was quiet, and the only light source was from
- 1:43Speaker 2: within the cave. Joseph followed the faint glimmer, keeping his
- 1:46Speaker 2: balance on the cave's jagged walls. As he inched closer,
- 1:50Speaker 2: the air became warmer, like a room filled with the
- 1:53Speaker 2: comfort of a fireplace. The entire cave became filled with
- 1:57Speaker 2: the scent of frankincense and myrrh. As Joseph navigated the cave,
- 2:01Speaker 2: he could hear the sound of a child's cry. Then,
- 2:04Speaker 2: a hushing lullaby. The voice singing was gentle and soft,
- 2:07Speaker 2: like the evening spring breeze.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Joseph knew that voice.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Mary, is that you?
- 2:13Speaker 3: He gasped.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Joseph picked up his pace and rounded the corner towards
- 2:17Speaker 2: the light. But before he could see anything... The cave
- 2:19Speaker 2: flooded with water, and Joseph found himself swimming.
- 2:23Speaker 3: For his life amidst a violent.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Storm in the middle of the sea. Joseph awoke in
- 2:28Speaker 2: a cold sweat. He held his chest and looked over
- 2:31Speaker 2: at Mary, sound asleep. He looked at the horizon. Foreboding
- 2:37Speaker 2: storm clouds were galloping in from the east. Joseph rose
- 2:40Speaker 2: and began to prepare the donkey for a quick escape.
- 2:43Speaker 2: He wasn't sure why God had returned the vision to him,
- 2:46Speaker 2: but he knew better than to ignore his dreams.
- 2:50Speaker 4: I'm so glad you joined us on the Bible in

- 3:17Speaker 4: hustle and bustle that you and I need peace and

- 3:39Speaker 4: That's jackgram.org, jackgram.org. In our previous episodes, Mary and Joseph
- 3:48Speaker 4: endured robbery, marital tension, and injuries. Ultimately, they grew stronger
- 3:54Speaker 4: because of it. This episode will take us through the
- 3:57Speaker 4: final few days of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem.
- 4:02Speaker 4: And although they've endured many trials already, the worst is
- 4:06Speaker 4: yet to come. A storm is brewing in the distance.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Will Mary be able to endure the weather this late
- 4:12Speaker 4: in her pregnancy? Joseph has faced robbers to protect Mary,
- 4:16Speaker 4: but can he face a monsoon? Let's immerse ourselves in
- 4:21Speaker 4: this story and put ourselves in their shoes. Let's consider
- 4:25Speaker 4: the storms in our lives that seek to knock us
- 4:28Speaker 4: off course. How do we respond to difficulty and despair?
- 4:34Speaker 4: We'll answer those questions and more afterward. Let's dive into
- 4:38Speaker 4: this dramatic story of Mary and Joseph's final day on
- 4:41Speaker 4: the road to Bethlehem.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Mary awoke to the sound of thunder. The winds picked up,
- 4:48Speaker 2: bringing a foreboding message. A storm was coming. Joseph was
- 4:53Speaker 2: already awake and securing the straps on the donkey.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Do you think the storm will travel south?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Mary asked, gesturing to the lightning in the distance. Joseph
- 5:02Speaker 2: looked out and shook his head. He felt his chest tighten.
- 5:05Speaker 2: The winds are blowing westward. I'm no sailor, but I
- 5:08Speaker 2: think I can confidently say this storm is headed our way.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Joseph pointed forward to the hills overlooking the valley. There
- 5:16Speaker 2: should be some wind caves tucked into those hills.
- 5:19Speaker 3: We should find shelter before it's too late.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Joseph's voice was broken and anxious. Mary stood up and
- 5:25Speaker 2: held her back. Lately, her body had been feeling tense
- 5:29Speaker 2: and uneasy. She had a feeling Jesus would soon be
- 5:32Speaker 2: on his way. She squeezed Joseph's hand. Storms may come,
- 5:37Speaker 2: she said. her voice gentle but with underlying steel.
- 5:41Speaker 4: But they will also pass.
- 5:43Speaker 1: We will weather this together.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Joseph nodded and looked up. The sunrise was covered by darkness.
- 5:50Speaker 2: The winds churned them up like sand under waves. Thunder rumbled,
- 5:55Speaker 2: echoing the restless heartbeats of every creature on the land.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Birds retreated to their nests and animals scurried back to
- 6:03Speaker 2: their burrows. Yet Joseph and Mary were exposed. The rains
- 6:07Speaker 2: descended with violent force, and the winds howled with anger.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Joseph drove his feet into the mud and guided Mary
- 6:14Speaker 2: and the donkey through the winding hills leading up to
- 6:17Speaker 2: some caves. The path up to the caves was steep.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Joseph marched up with all his might, but the ground
- 6:24Speaker 2: beneath him gave way with every step. Before they could
- 6:27Speaker 2: reach the top, Joseph slipped onto a moving stone. Joseph!
- 6:31Speaker 2: Mary gasped as she watched him slide down the jagged
- 6:34Speaker 2: edge of the hill. Mary quickly dismounted the donkey and
- 6:38Speaker 2: reached for him, but Joseph slipped right through her fingers.
- 6:41Speaker 2: He slid down the rocky slope, but caught himself on
- 6:44Speaker 2: a root buried in the ground. Joseph gasped in pain.
- 6:48Speaker 2: The rain beat mercilessly as.
- 6:50Speaker 3: He tried to pull himself up.
- 6:51Speaker 2: But the mud and falling rocks weighed heavy.
- 6:54Speaker 3: On his body.' Mary!
- 6:55Speaker 2: he shouted, but the thunder and rain drowned out his voice.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Joseph feared he couldn't hold on much longer.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Hold on!' Mary shouted.
- 7:04Speaker 2: She had to act before Joseph fell over the edge.
- 7:06Speaker 2: She tore her shawl and blankets and fastened them to
- 7:09Speaker 2: a rope. She tied one end to the donkey and
- 7:12Speaker 2: another to a heavy branch.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Joseph!
- 7:14Speaker 2: she cried, her voice barely discernible through the storm.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Grab onto this!
- 7:19Speaker 2: She tossed the branch down to Joseph and he grabbed hold.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Mary took the reins of the donkey and led it
- 7:23Speaker 2: up the hill. The donkey slowly pulled through.
- 7:26Speaker 3: The rain and mud.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Joseph was pulled back over the ledge as Mary marched
- 7:30Speaker 2: with the donkey. Mary ran to him and grabbed his face.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Are you okay?
- 7:34Speaker 3: She panted. I think so. Joseph said with a weary smile.
- 7:39Speaker 2: The rain hadn't let up and the ground underneath them
- 7:41Speaker 2: was flooding. Joseph pointed towards an opening in the mountain.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Get to the caves!
- 7:46Speaker 4: He yelled.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Mary held Joseph to his feet and put his arm
- 7:50Speaker 2: around her shoulders. The two of them took the donkey
- 7:53Speaker 2: and limped to a nearby cave. It wasn't warm or comfortable,
- 7:56Speaker 2: but it was safe from the onslaught of wind and rain.
- 8:00Speaker 2: As the rain intensified, the cave became a sanctuary, its
- 8:03Speaker 2: walls muting the storm's roar. Inside, the dim light painted
- 8:07Speaker 2: shadows that danced to the storm's song. Mary wrapped herself
- 8:11Speaker 2: in the tattered remains of the blankets and settled down.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Exhaustion was evident in her every movement. Joseph wrapped his
- 8:19Speaker 2: arms around her, worried the worst wasn't over.
- 8:23Speaker 3: An hour passed, and.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Each moment seemed to last a lifetime. Amidst the storm's cacophony,
- 8:29Speaker 2: Mary's voice began to sing a soft lullaby. She sang
- 8:33Speaker 2: of hope, journeys, and love that endures. The cave amplified
- 8:38Speaker 2: its healing notes. Joseph listened to her singing, lost in
- 8:42Speaker 2: thought and affection for his wife. Then his memory flooded
- 8:46Speaker 2: with images of the dream God had given him.
- 8:49Speaker 3: He remembered hearing.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Mary's voice singing softly in a cave before he was
- 8:53Speaker 2: swept up in water. Joseph's eyes widened and his ears
- 8:58Speaker 2: perked up to the sound of rushing water behind them.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Mary!
- 9:01Speaker 2: he interrupted.
- 9:02Speaker 3: We need to leave now!
- 9:03Speaker 2: What' s wrong?
- 9:05Speaker 3: Mary asked.
- 9:05Speaker 2: But before Joseph could respond, a flash flood of monsoon
- 9:09Speaker 2: water began to burst through the opposite.
- 9:11Speaker 3: End of the cave. Joseph scooped Mary up in his
- 9:14Speaker 3: arms and ran outside.
- 9:16Speaker 2: The floodwaters burst through the cave behind them, nearly knocking
- 9:19Speaker 2: them onto the jagged rocks. Joseph rounded the corner of
- 9:22Speaker 2: the rocks and sprang up with Mary still in his arms.
- 9:26Speaker 2: He got her to safety on the hill's summit and
- 9:28Speaker 2: slid down to retrieve the donkey. He pulled at its reins,
- 9:32Speaker 2: forcing it forward and onto the stones with them. Joseph
- 9:35Speaker 2: wrapped himself over Mary, the only covering between her and
- 9:38Speaker 2: the raging winds.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Help us, Lord!' Mary whimpered.
- 9:42Speaker 2: The two prayed silently and held each other close, the
- 9:45Speaker 2: sound of rushing water below them and howling winds above.
- 9:49Speaker 2: The two prayed silently and held each other close, the
- 9:52Speaker 2: sound of rushing water below them and howling winds above.
- 9:56Speaker 2: The storm roared louder as if sensing the challenge, but
- 9:59Speaker 2: Mary and Joseph didn't lose hope. They continued in prayer
- 10:03Speaker 2: and lifted up a shout of praise to God. Slowly
- 10:06Speaker 2: but surely, the worst of the storm left. As dawn approached,
- 10:10Speaker 2: the wind waned. The first rays of sunlight pierced the
- 10:14Speaker 2: dark clouds. Outside the cave, the wilderness was transformed. Puddles
- 10:19Speaker 2: shimmered like mirrors, reflecting the sky, and the fresh and
- 10:23Speaker 2: invigorating air seemed to promise new beginnings. Joseph and Mary
- 10:27Speaker 2: looked up, taking in the world reborn. The trials of
- 10:31Speaker 2: their journey, though harsh, had also been transformative. Like the
- 10:36Speaker 2: desert after the storm, they too were renewed. Their bond
- 10:40Speaker 2: was stronger than ever. The storm had been a reminder
- 10:43Speaker 2: of life's unpredictability and the enduring power of faith, love,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and hope. Now, high in the sky, the sun cast
- 10:52Speaker 2: its golden glow over the land, guiding.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Mary and Joseph on their journey. Bethlehem was in sight.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Their footsteps, though small in the vastness of the valley,
- 11:01Speaker 2: were steps towards a future that would change the course
- 11:04Speaker 2: of human history.
- 11:14Speaker 4: The storms of life often come with little warnings. leaving
- 11:18Speaker 4: us to scramble for shelter, security, and sanity. As the
- 11:23Speaker 4: winds whip and the rains pour, we may feel battered, broken,
- 11:28Speaker 4: and defeated. But the storms we face in life are
- 11:32Speaker 4: meant to strengthen us. Just as in the moving depiction
- 11:37Speaker 4: of Mary and Joseph facing a literal storm on their
- 11:40Speaker 4: way to Bethlehem, we're reminded that it is not the
- 11:44Speaker 4: trials themselves, but how we respond to them. that shapes
- 11:48Speaker 4: our faith. In this biblical fiction, Joseph's wisdom and Mary's
- 11:54Speaker 4: steadfast faith are anchors during their ordeal. The unexpected trials
- 12:00Speaker 4: they endure magnified their trust in God and their love
- 12:04Speaker 4: for one another. As we face our storms, let us
- 12:10Speaker 4: also recognize the hand of God working in our lives,
- 12:13Speaker 4: guiding us, strengthening us, and even using these challenges to
- 12:18Speaker 4: transform us. In the story, Mary and Joseph's faith is tested. Yet,
- 12:24Speaker 4: instead of succumbing to fear, they embrace the storm. The
- 12:29Speaker 4: storms of life are inevitable. There is no avoiding hard times.
- 12:35Speaker 4: The choice we have is how we endure them. Mary's words,
- 12:40Speaker 4: storms may come, but they also pass, will weather this together.
- 12:45Speaker 4: They speak of hope, resilience, and confidence in God's faithfulness.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Paul echoes this in Philippians 1, verse 6, saying, This
- 12:53Speaker 4: promise encourages us to recognize that even the strongest storms
- 12:56Speaker 4: will not thwart the work God wants to do in
- 12:58Speaker 4: our lives. Throughout the harrowing experience, Joseph and Mary's bond
- 13:19Speaker 4: is their greatest strength. They support and encourage each other,
- 13:23Speaker 4: reflecting the importance of community in our own lives. In
- 13:28Speaker 4: our walk with Christ, we need to surround ourselves with
- 13:31Speaker 4: those who will lift us up, pray for us, and
- 13:34Speaker 4: remind us of God's promises. Think for a moment about
- 13:38Speaker 4: your fondest Christmas memories. I would guess that those memories
- 13:43Speaker 4: rarely involve specific gifts you received, but rather the people
- 13:47Speaker 4: you were surrounded by and the bond you shared. The
- 13:51Speaker 4: Christmas season often reminds us that loving community is greater
- 13:55Speaker 4: than the gifts we can receive. While the world relies
- 13:59Speaker 4: on comfort and material possessions, we rely on the loving
- 14:02Speaker 4: embrace of God and the community He surrounds us with.
- 14:08Speaker 4: This episode also highlights prayer and praise as a weapon
- 14:13Speaker 4: against despair. Mary and Joseph's response to the crisis is
- 14:18Speaker 4: marked by prayer and praise. They call upon the Lord
- 14:23Speaker 4: and even shout praises amidst the raging storm. This illustrates
- 14:28Speaker 4: a profound truth. Prayer and praise are powerful weapons in
- 14:32Speaker 4: our spiritual arsenal. They shift our focus from the problem
- 14:38Speaker 4: to the provider, from the storm to the Savior. After
- 14:43Speaker 4: the storm, the wilderness is transformed into And so are
- 14:47Speaker 4: Mary and Joseph. They emerge renewed, their bond stronger, their
- 14:52Speaker 4: faith deepened. Similarly, the storms in our lives can lead
- 14:57Speaker 4: to transformation. As we trust God through the trials, we
- 15:03Speaker 4: are shaped into the likeness of Christ. Our faith matures
- 15:07Speaker 4: and our character is refined. The storms we face are
- 15:11Speaker 4: not meant to break us, but to build us. The
- 15:15Speaker 4: story of Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem
- 15:18Speaker 4: is a beautiful reminder that God's faithfulness is unchanging. His
- 15:24Speaker 4: love is unending. And His purpose for our lives is unshakable.
- 15:31Speaker 4: As we face the storms of life, may we take
- 15:34Speaker 4: hold of the assurance found in Philippians 1, verse 6,
- 15:39Speaker 4: knowing that God, who began a good work in us,
- 15:43Speaker 4: will be faithful to complete it. May we embrace the
- 15:47Speaker 4: challenges with faith, navigate them with the support of the community,
- 15:51Speaker 4: respond with prayer and praise, and emerge renewed and transformed,
- 15:57Speaker 4: ready to walk the path that God has set before us.
