- 0:00Speaker 1: And joining me live on the line is Craig Garaway,
- 0:02Speaker 1: the operations manager with Saint John's here in the Northern Territory.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Good morning to you, Craig.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Yeah, good morning Katie. How are you?
- 0:09Speaker 1: Yeah, very well, Craig. Busy weekend kicking off on Saturday.
- 0:14Speaker 1: We know it about two point thirty in the vo
- 0:16Speaker 1: in Moyle a two car motor vehicle crash. Thankfully no
- 0:20Speaker 1: serious injuries in that one.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a bit of a busy weekend. And
- 0:25Speaker 2: you're right, Sunday was that big day. But it started
- 0:27Speaker 2: off late on Saturday afternoon with at two thirty crashing Moyl.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Two cars have collided and as you've reported there, no
- 0:34Speaker 2: one was seriously intied in that incident, but sort of
- 0:37Speaker 2: moved on to Sunday where things got a bit busier.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And yeah on Sundays, So firstly, let's start off with that.
- 0:44Speaker 1: There's an incident at four point fifteen in Karama. What
- 0:47Speaker 1: happened there?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Look, the reports we had was there was a
- 0:51Speaker 2: car doing burnouts there is my understanding on Fleminos Drive
- 0:55Speaker 2: and I believe it's collided with the tree there. We've
- 0:58Speaker 2: attended along with police and fire and we transported two
- 1:01Speaker 2: people with non life threatening injuries to Rule down On
- 1:04Speaker 2: Hospital as a result of that crash.
- 1:07Speaker 1: And then a little bit later at all about six pm,
- 1:11Speaker 1: seventeen kilometers north of Catherine, there was a buggy roll over.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, interesting one, that one. We had to send a
- 1:18Speaker 2: troop carrier out there and the buggy was off the
- 1:20Speaker 2: road a bit and we sent a true carrier ambulance
- 1:22Speaker 2: out with our paramedics. And there was a male at
- 1:25Speaker 2: that incident there who had quite a nasty fractured league
- 1:29Speaker 2: that required obviously a feb of pane relief and then
- 1:32Speaker 2: transport back into Katherine where the Cathern Hospital then looked
- 1:36Speaker 2: after him. I believe he's probably had some surgery on
- 1:39Speaker 2: that league as well.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Oh goodness mate, Well it sounds like it was a
- 1:42Speaker 1: bad break.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it was very nasty and you know, as a
- 1:47Speaker 2: result of that crash. But anyway, he will make a
- 1:49Speaker 2: full recovery, but probably with a limp for a while,
- 1:51Speaker 2: I would say, yeah.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And as you've said, there, obviously the troop he needed
- 1:55Speaker 1: to get out there and access him and then get
- 1:57Speaker 1: into to the Catherine Hospital. But was it in an
- 2:00Speaker 1: area that was fairly sort of fairly tough terrain or
- 2:04Speaker 1: rugged terrain.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, look, it was just off the main road, so
- 2:08Speaker 2: it takes a bit to get in there, and our
- 2:09Speaker 2: main ambalances to Mercedes excuse me, it's not designed to
- 2:13Speaker 2: be going off road and doing that. So we do
- 2:14Speaker 2: have a true carrier in all our locations to do
- 2:17Speaker 2: those difficult extractions where we need to bring people back out. So, yeah,
- 2:22Speaker 2: a little bit difficult, but paramedics said, good at it,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and they do it every day.
- 2:26Speaker 1: And then of course about eight pm, mean humpty do
- 2:28Speaker 1: this time some people came across a motorbike rider who
- 2:31Speaker 1: was unconscious on the side of the road.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, a bit of a shock for him, I believe obviously,
- 2:37Speaker 2: you know, coming across a motorbike rider who's unconscious on
- 2:40Speaker 2: the side of the road. Again, we had our critical
- 2:44Speaker 2: response unit responded out to that incident along with our
- 2:46Speaker 2: paramedics and he was in a serious condition that was
- 2:49Speaker 2: transported back to the Royal Dahin Hospital where he's I
- 2:53Speaker 2: believe recovering at the moment. I don't have any further
- 2:56Speaker 2: details on his current condition.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Okay. And in Bee's Creek, well, a woman hit a
- 3:02Speaker 1: tree with her car, sustaining some air bag injuries.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, air bags are great, they save lives, but
- 3:09Speaker 2: unfortuately when they go off, they go off with a bang,
- 3:11Speaker 2: and we do see a lot of people, you know,
- 3:14Speaker 2: not serious injuries, but injuries as a result of those
- 3:16Speaker 2: air bags. And that's what's happened at nine o'clock at
- 3:18Speaker 2: Bee's Greek. And she'll make it for recovery in hospital.
- 3:22Speaker 2: And obviously the car is a bit worse aware after
- 3:25Speaker 2: hitting a tree and exploding all the air bag.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Sounds like an incredibly busy weekend for your cruise.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah, look it has been, especially Sunday. Saturday was reasonably steady,
- 3:37Speaker 2: but Sunday very busy. Rights right across the territory actually,
- 3:40Speaker 2: and it probably highlights Katie that I'm on my way
- 3:43Speaker 2: to cater at the moment. I've just driven through some
- 3:45Speaker 2: rain before Pine Creek. So people just need to be careful,
- 3:49Speaker 2: get their car service, make sure your ties are up,
- 3:52Speaker 2: the speed w wipers, your white blades are all sorted out,
- 3:56Speaker 2: you know, all those little things we don't think about
- 3:57Speaker 2: until it starts pouring with rain a bit too late.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and well, as you said, it's obviously it is
- 4:05Speaker 1: something that we all need to be prepared for We
- 4:06Speaker 1: need to make sure that our vehicles are sort of
- 4:08Speaker 1: ready for anything and ready for that wet weather. But
- 4:12Speaker 1: I suppose we've just all got to make sure that
- 4:13Speaker 1: we're taking care on the road as well.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah, probably a couple of things. Katie, slow down for start,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and give yourself a bit of space for the car.
- 4:23Speaker 2: The amount of crashes we've had where people are just
- 4:25Speaker 2: running into the back of each other, and over the
- 4:27Speaker 2: weekend I saw a number of people running through red
- 4:30Speaker 2: lights while you know, I had a green light, so
- 4:33Speaker 2: you know, obviously it was well and truly read by
- 4:35Speaker 2: the time you got there. Just slow down and give
- 4:37Speaker 2: yourself a bit more time to get where you need
- 4:39Speaker 2: to be.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Good advice I reckon. Craig gar Away, the operations manager
- 4:44Speaker 1: with Saint John here in the Northern Territory. Always good
- 4:46Speaker 1: to speak with you. Thanks so much for your time
- 4:48Speaker 1: this morning.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah you too, Katie. Take care of me.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Thank you you too.
