Speaker 2: Let's Talk is proudly presented by attorney Frank Walker. Real talk,

• 0:35
  Speaker 2: Let's Talk.
• 0:36
Speaker 3: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is Carl Lee with Let's Talk.
• 0:39
Speaker 3: And I have in the building Ms. Odie and Mr. Lewis. Hello, hello.
• 0:47
Speaker 3: This is one of those kind of days where I
• 0:50
Speaker 3: feel like there is like so much... information, so many
• 0:56
Speaker 3: different types of things that you could talk about. And
• 0:59
Speaker 3: I think today we're going to probably jump around to
• 1:03
Speaker 3: a lot of different topics.
• 1:05
Speaker 4: We had to really narrow it down. I mean, we
• 1:07
Speaker 4: had so many things to choose from. This time of year,
• 1:09
  Speaker 4: it's busy.
• 1:11
Speaker 3: It really is. But I'm going to even make the
• 1:13
Speaker 3: case that we may be in a unique time. place
• 1:18
Speaker 3: with a lot of these things and not not giving
• 1:22
Speaker 3: it out as as of yet but i think some
• 1:24
Speaker 3: of these things are uniquely different and maybe even a
• 1:29
Speaker 3: start to something new.
• 1:31
Speaker 4: Well let's start with a clip to open up all
• 1:34
Speaker 4: right who we want to.
• 1:35
Speaker 3: Talk about first okay okay.
• 1:38
Speaker 5: Man i didn't have no reaction i think the biggest
• 1:41
Speaker 5: thing is um I think you guys know, too. And
• 1:46
Speaker 5: I think the whole world knows. It has nothing to
• 1:48
Speaker 5: do about the performance. It's a little bit personal than that.
• 1:52
Speaker 5: So I think that's a disrespectful thing. So, yeah, I mean,
• 1:57
Speaker 5: I'm going to keep whatever I feel with me and
• 2:00
Speaker 5: my family internally on how I feel about that. And, yeah,
• 2:03
Speaker 5: just move on. Last time I played on this field,
• 2:06
Speaker 5: I took my Achilles. And that same fan base, they
• 2:10
Speaker 5: cheered when I got hurt.
• 2:12
  Speaker 3: So....
• 2:14
Speaker 5: Does that have to do with anything about performance? When
• 2:19
Speaker 5: a person gets hurt, especially for your own city, and
• 2:22
  Speaker 5: they cheer.
• 2:23
Speaker 4: Do you want me to reference what the clip is about?
• 2:29
  Speaker 3: Yes, go ahead.
• 2:30
Speaker 4: Of course, that was Deshaun Watson with the Cleveland Browns,
• 2:33
Speaker 4: and that was actually his post-game interview after a preseason
• 2:38
Speaker 4: game between the Bills and the Browns. So go ahead, guys.
• 2:41
Speaker 3: And he essentially apologized for it. Okay, so to that,
• 2:46
Speaker 3: because I didn't know that, Hollis, but I'm going to
• 2:49
Speaker 3: ask you this question. Do you think he needed to apologize? Yeah.
• 2:53
Speaker 6: I mean, the thing is, like, he's human, so, like,
• 2:57
Speaker 6: he can have those feelings, and it's not a good
• 2:58
Speaker 6: feeling if your quote-unquote home team fans are booing you.
• 3:03
Speaker 6: But I think to put it in context— We're not
• 3:05
Speaker 6: just talking about the play. It's a whole bunch of
• 3:07
Speaker 6: other stuff that's going on with Deshaun Watson. You know,
• 3:11
Speaker 6: the allegations, his performance, and also the contract that has really,
• 3:18
Speaker 6: you know, picked the Browns in a hole. I mean,
• 3:20
  Speaker 6: he's due still like $ 86 million. So it's a bunch
• 3:26
Speaker 6: of stuff that's circling around it.
• 3:28
Speaker 3: Okay. I I'm going to kind of go– and I
• 3:32
Speaker 3: get every piece of that that you're saying.
• 3:35
Speaker 6: And he was recently named a starting quarterback.
• 3:36
Speaker 3: Yes. And I know Lisa's going to probably have a
• 3:39
Speaker 3: ton of facts that will counter what I'm about to say.
• 3:44
Speaker 3: But my thing is, okay, when you hear the name
• 3:50
Speaker 3: Deshaun Watson, okay, you know who that is and– And
• 3:56
Speaker 3: there's somewhat of an expectation of him being a starting
• 4:00
Speaker 3: quarterback wherever, right? And I think in this situation, I
• 4:08
Speaker 3: think this is probably the worst situation that he could
• 4:11
Speaker 3: possibly be in with Shador and Deion all in this mix.
• 4:18
Speaker 3: And I don't believe that he's going to ever buy
• 4:21
Speaker 3: into the idea that Shador is a better quarterback than him.
• 4:26
Speaker 3: And he's going to look at Dion as being the
• 4:29
Speaker 3: motivating factor of why Shador is there. And I think
• 4:33
Speaker 3: you as the Browns create that.
• 4:40
Speaker 4: I mean, maybe I understand parts of your points. I think,
• 4:43
Speaker 4: I think, I think the problem that the Browns fans
• 4:45
Speaker 4: have right now with Deshaun Watson, first of all, he
• 4:48
Speaker 4: was just named the week one starter by their head coach.
• 4:52
Speaker 4: And so, you know, uh, I don't know if the
• 4:57
Speaker 4: hometown fans were ready for that, knowing his history with
• 5:02
Speaker 4: the allegations that Hollis referred to. You know, also, let's look,
• 5:06
Speaker 4: you know, part of the booze our performance.
• 5:08
  Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
• 5:09
Speaker 4: If you look at the record he had when he
• 5:11
Speaker 4: did play, which is he's only started 19 games total.
• 5:15
  Speaker 3: With the Browns?
• 5:15
  Speaker 4: With the Browns.
• 5:16
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 5:16
Speaker 4: And in those 19 games, his record is 9-10.
• 5:19
Speaker 3: But let's ask the question, is that him solely or
• 5:25
Speaker 3: is that the team?
• 5:26
Speaker 4: I mean, that's a combination, but still, that much money.
• 5:30
  Speaker 3: I think that's the point.
• 5:31
  Speaker 4: That's the point.
• 5:32
Speaker 3: That's the point. It's the money. If I come in
• 5:37
Speaker 3: and ask you for $ 20 and you give me $ 20
• 5:40
Speaker 3: and our team is making me seem like I'm only
• 5:45
Speaker 3: really worth $ 5 because of the way it looks.
• 5:48
Speaker 6: But I think when you talk about that, of course,
• 5:50
Speaker 6: you know, the Browns aren't historically– been a great organization
• 5:55
Speaker 6: at least post you know Jim Brown right but I
• 5:57
Speaker 6: think that when you talk about the amount of money
• 6:01
Speaker 6: and I'm talking historic amount we're talking about like you
• 6:05
Speaker 6: know he set a new ceiling right and when you
• 6:08
Speaker 6: talk about that In addition to the allegations, in addition
• 6:11
Speaker 6: to the performance, I think all that sort of makes
• 6:14
  Speaker 6: a difference because you're you're you're not helping us.
• 6:16
Speaker 3: OK, but no, you're not helping us. But when I
• 6:20
Speaker 3: walk in and I ask for that.
• 6:23
Speaker 6: But but again, again, when you you ask for it,
• 6:26
Speaker 6: you got it. But at that point, you have to
• 6:28
Speaker 6: live up to it. And I think to Lisa's point.
• 6:31
Speaker 6: He ain't lived up to it.
• 6:32
Speaker 4: No, no. I mean, I know that he had the 11-game,
• 6:35
Speaker 4: I think it was 11-game suspension right out of the
• 6:37
Speaker 4: gate because of the allegations until he got that. And
• 6:40
Speaker 4: he finally got that stuff settled. And then he got hurt.
• 6:43
Speaker 4: So he had some pretty severe major injuries that prevented
• 6:47
Speaker 4: him from being on the field. So let's think about this.
• 6:49
Speaker 4: This contract started in 2022. They're paying him that amount
• 6:53
Speaker 4: of money. It's a guaranteed contract no matter what happens.
• 6:57
  Speaker 3: Crazy.
• 6:57
Speaker 4: And he started 19 games, guys.
• 7:00
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 7:00
Speaker 4: Think about how many games are in a season.
• 7:02
  Speaker 3: Cut him.
• 7:03
  Speaker 7: No, no, no.
• 7:03
  Speaker 4: They can't.
• 7:04
Speaker 3: You can't cut him.
• 7:05
  Speaker 4: They can't.
• 7:06
Speaker 3: You have to start him. Okay, well, then whose fault
• 7:09
Speaker 3: is that? It's the Browns' fault. It's the Browns' fault.
• 7:12
Speaker 4: The Browns are Browning.
• 7:14
Speaker 3: So there is no reason.
• 7:15
Speaker 4: There's just no other way.
• 7:17
Speaker 3: But there is no reason to me. There is no reason.
• 7:19
Speaker 3: Deshaun Watson is not even part of this conversation, really.
• 7:23
Speaker 3: Because the Browns did what they thought they could do,
• 7:26
Speaker 3: and so they locked him in with all this money.
• 7:29
Speaker 3: He's got to play, all of these kinds of things.
• 7:32
Speaker 3: That is not Deshaun Watson's issue. That is a Browns issue.
• 7:35
Speaker 3: That is a general manager issue.
• 7:37
Speaker 6: But when you come out and you're the face of
• 7:39
Speaker 6: the team and you have those sort of comments— They
• 7:41
Speaker 6: can move me all day. You're tone deaf. As a quarterback,
• 7:46
Speaker 6: we expect a higher level of self-awareness. And you can't
• 7:50
Speaker 6: add fuel to the fire.
• 7:52
  Speaker 7: No.
• 7:53
Speaker 6: And we know from an organizational standpoint, the Browns, they
• 7:57
Speaker 6: shot themselves in the foot. They have to start, regardless
• 8:00
Speaker 6: of what anybody else thinks, they have to start Deshaun Watson.
• 8:03
Speaker 6: Because they even got to do one or two things.
• 8:07
Speaker 6: They got to start him, hopefully he plays well, and
• 8:10
Speaker 6: they can move him and trade him. So hopefully the
• 8:11
Speaker 6: team's like, get enamored, and they can trade him. Or
• 8:14
Speaker 6: he could play so bad where they can justify waiving
• 8:17
Speaker 6: him or cutting him or whatever, even in spite of
• 8:19
  Speaker 6: the money.
• 8:20
  Speaker 3: Right?
• 8:20
Speaker 6: So they're in a no-win situation. And then to your point,
• 8:24
Speaker 6: then you got Shador Sanders and he's so charismatic and
• 8:27
Speaker 6: he's popular and everybody knows him. Then you have that way.
• 8:29
Speaker 6: So they pit themselves in this just... wretched situation that's
• 8:33
Speaker 6: not going to be good for nobody. And it just
• 8:35
Speaker 6: shows how in-depth they are.
• 8:37
Speaker 3: As a franchise. Yeah. And that's why I can't... You know,
• 8:43
Speaker 3: when I look at this whole situation... At the end
• 8:45
Speaker 3: of the day, this is the Browns.
• 8:48
  Speaker 4: Exactly.
• 8:48
Speaker 3: This is the Browns. That's what I said. And whoever
• 8:52
Speaker 3: the person was or is in this situation, it's the Browns.
• 8:56
Speaker 4: Well, let me ask you guys both something because I
• 8:58
Speaker 4: know I'm not familiar with this part of his story,
• 9:00
Speaker 4: but he came from the Houston Texans, correct?
• 9:02
  Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
• 9:03
Speaker 4: And he had a pretty good season there, right?
• 9:04
Speaker 3: He was pretty dependable.
• 9:05
Speaker 4: Yeah, he had a good season.
• 9:08
Speaker 3: Start to his career.
• 9:09
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 9:10
Speaker 4: Okay. But then the allegations happened. Is that when they
• 9:12
Speaker 4: kind of said, we don't want you anymore?
• 9:14
Speaker 3: I don't know if it got heard or if the
• 9:15
Speaker 3: allegations came first. I'm not sure. It could have been. Again,
• 9:19
Speaker 3: I don't remember either, but it's probably both.
• 9:21
Speaker 4: The civil lawsuits actually happened in Texas. So he was
• 9:23
Speaker 4: actually a member of the Houston Texans.
• 9:26
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 9:26
Speaker 4: And then they were like, we don't want our hands dirty.
• 9:28
  Speaker 3: Let's go.
• 9:29
Speaker 4: Let's trade you to Cleveland. And Cleveland thought they had
• 9:31
Speaker 4: this big trade, I guess. Did they trade him or
• 9:33
Speaker 4: just outright sign him?
• 9:36
Speaker 3: I think it was a trade. If anybody's listening and
• 9:40
Speaker 3: knows more about that, let us know. But to me,
• 9:44
Speaker 3: this is a situation to where you lose as an
• 9:48
Speaker 3: organization because you gambled. on a player. You gave him
• 9:52
Speaker 3: the money, because you think he deserved it, and in
• 9:56
Speaker 3: the moment, notably, he was that guy. He's coming from
• 10:01
Speaker 3: another team, been good, great. We're going to pay him.
• 10:05
Speaker 3: And all of a sudden he gets here.
• 10:06
  Speaker 4: That's much money?
• 10:07
  Speaker 1: Yes.
• 10:08
  Speaker 3: Here's the thing.
• 10:10
Speaker 4: I mean, that blows my mind.
• 10:11
Speaker 3: Here's the thing. You go to the Browns. And the
• 10:16
Speaker 3: Browns have not historically, for however long, the Browns have
• 10:20
  Speaker 3: not been good.
• 10:21
Speaker 4: Quarterbacks go there to die.
• 10:23
Speaker 3: They do. They do. But if I'm going to die
• 10:26
Speaker 3: and I got $ 300 million... So be it.
• 10:30
  Speaker 4: So be it.
• 10:32
Speaker 3: And now what the Browns are trying to say is, no,
• 10:34
Speaker 3: we don't want to bury you with that. We just
• 10:37
Speaker 3: want some of that money back, or you got to go.
• 10:40
Speaker 4: I think they're just trying to ride the contract out,
• 10:43
Speaker 4: and they're like, isn't this the last year of it?
• 10:45
Speaker 3: Or one more? I want to say year two, something
• 10:47
Speaker 3: like that. I think it's two years.
• 10:48
Speaker 4: Yeah, you're right. So one more year after this year,
• 10:51
Speaker 4: because it was 2022.
• 10:52
Speaker 3: And like I said, they don't have a choice. So
• 10:54
Speaker 3: they got to start it. And here's the thing. He's
• 10:57
Speaker 3: going to get these two years. or he's going to
• 11:00
Speaker 3: get these two years with the money, and they're just
• 11:04
Speaker 3: out of the money.
• 11:05
  Speaker 4: Yeah, they're out.
• 11:05
Speaker 3: And I think he is too.
• 11:07
Speaker 6: Like I said, unless he comes out here and he
• 11:08
Speaker 6: really like, which this is just my prediction, I believe
• 11:13
Speaker 6: unless there's some sort of collusion, I think he's going
• 11:17
Speaker 6: to go out there and absolutely ball. I think his
• 11:20
Speaker 6: back is against the wall. I think he's going to
• 11:22
Speaker 6: go out there because he has zero to lose. He
• 11:24
Speaker 6: knows this is it. I don't believe he'll probably get
• 11:28
Speaker 6: picked up by another organization if he doesn't.
• 11:30
Speaker 4: I think the opposite of that. I think he's just
• 11:32
Speaker 4: going to ride this horse out. I think the opposite.
• 11:35
Speaker 4: I think he's just going to ride this out and
• 11:37
Speaker 4: take his check and, you know, take his ball and
• 11:39
  Speaker 4: go home.
• 11:39
Speaker 3: This is it, though. I'm telling you, when your back
• 11:41
Speaker 3: is against the wall, watch. I think I'm partnering with Lisa,
• 11:45
Speaker 3: but I think what he's going to try to do
• 11:48
Speaker 3: And I don't think he's going to be able to
• 11:49
Speaker 3: accomplish it because it is Cleveland. I think he would
• 11:52
Speaker 3: like to go out. He keeps saying that.
• 11:55
Speaker 4: We apologize to the Browns fans in our audience for
• 11:59
  Speaker 4: Carl's behavior.
• 12:01
  Speaker 3: I don't. I don't apologize. I grew up a Browns fan.
• 12:04
Speaker 3: They're the worst. And they just have not. They have not.
• 12:09
Speaker 3: Bend the Browns for I can't tell you how long.
• 12:11
Speaker 3: Carl got drafted 43 years ago, and they've been bad.
• 12:14
  Speaker 2: Ever.
• 12:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. They moved the team and everything. Exactly.
• 12:20
Speaker 3: I just think that where he's going to end up,
• 12:25
Speaker 3: the way I think this is going to play out,
• 12:28
Speaker 3: is if they cut him, They'll have to cut him
• 12:32
Speaker 3: somewhere during the season or before the beginning of the
• 12:35
Speaker 3: next season and take the money and lose the money.
• 12:40
Speaker 3: And then we'll have to.
• 12:42
Speaker 4: Do that next year than this year because they can't
• 12:45
Speaker 4: afford to get someone in his place this year with
• 12:48
Speaker 4: that much money on the line.
• 12:50
Speaker 3: Which one of you all would be mad if Shador
• 12:52
Speaker 3: ends up taking the job and you're sitting on the
• 12:55
Speaker 3: sideline making that kind of money?
• 12:58
Speaker 6: But I think for him– At that part in time
• 13:00
Speaker 6: of your career. But I think for him, like I said,
• 13:02
Speaker 6: this is his last shot. So I don't think he's
• 13:05
Speaker 6: thinking that way. Of course you got the money and.
• 13:08
Speaker 3: He'll be fine, but this is it. And to that,
• 13:13
  Speaker 3: I don't know if he's thinking like, oh, I still
• 13:15
Speaker 3: can go higher up. I realized that, okay– I'm not
• 13:23
Speaker 3: going to be any better than what I was. And
• 13:27
Speaker 3: the only thing I can do from here is go down.
• 13:30
Speaker 3: So for me, it was when is it time for
• 13:33
Speaker 3: me to get out of here? When is it time
• 13:34
Speaker 3: for me to walk out? But I don't think this
• 13:35
Speaker 3: is in a retirement situation. I'm talking about. Oh, I
• 13:38
Speaker 3: don't think he'll go anywhere else. His thing is it
• 13:41
  Speaker 3: doesn't matter. I don't think so either.
• 13:42
  Speaker 4: He's still young.
• 13:43
Speaker 6: So he has to play extraordinary. for him to get
• 13:47
Speaker 6: another shot in the league.
• 13:48
  Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
• 13:49
Speaker 3: You see what I'm saying?
• 13:50
Speaker 6: So it's just like for him to be a backup somewhere,
• 13:52
Speaker 6: he still has to go ball crazy. And I think
• 13:55
Speaker 6: in his mind as a competitor, he ain't got nothing
• 13:58
Speaker 6: else to lose. So it's like go out there and
• 13:59
Speaker 6: just let it all hang out. So I think he's
• 14:01
  Speaker 6: going to perform.
• 14:02
Speaker 3: I agree. I agree with the performance piece.
• 14:05
Speaker 4: You think he can behave? I mean, after all that
• 14:07
Speaker 4: trouble that he was in, I mean, that was a
• 14:10
Speaker 4: lot of allegations. Like he had almost– 24 civil lawsuits
• 14:14
Speaker 4: filed against him alleging sexual assault. So where there's smoke,
• 14:18
  Speaker 4: there's fire.
• 14:19
  Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a problem there. There's a problem there.
• 14:21
  Speaker 4: That's a mental illness.
• 14:23
  Speaker 3: There is a.
• 14:24
Speaker 4: So can he behave?
• 14:25
  Speaker 3: I mean, again, that's yet to be determined. That's a
• 14:26
  Speaker 3: legitimate question, right? That's a legitimate question, and I don't
• 14:29
Speaker 3: know the answer to that. I don't know the answer either. Well,
• 14:30
  Speaker 3: no one does.
• 14:31
Speaker 6: I say on the field, though, watch. Watch what I
• 14:33
Speaker 6: tell you. He going ball.
• 14:34
Speaker 3: But let's just ask this question. How many allegations do
• 14:42
Speaker 3: you have to have before management steps in and makes
• 14:48
Speaker 3: a decision? Because I'm sure, I want to say I'm sure,
• 14:53
Speaker 3: that if you have something like that as a justification
• 14:59
Speaker 3: to cut you or remove you from the team, I
• 15:03
Speaker 3: don't know if that's a case at this point, but
• 15:05
Speaker 3: there has to be something in there that's saying your conduct...
• 15:11
  Speaker 3: could cost you.
• 15:11
  Speaker 7: To be out.
• 15:13
Speaker 4: They knew that up front, though, when they took him,
• 15:15
Speaker 4: that he had all those issues.
• 15:17
Speaker 3: But why then are you– whose fault then is this?
• 15:22
Speaker 4: It's the Cleveland Browns.
• 15:23
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the Browns' fault.
• 15:24
Speaker 6: But I say this. I mean, again, we've seen players
• 15:26
Speaker 6: get cut for less. So, again, allegations are the allegations.
• 15:31
Speaker 6: But I'm not sure they're to the level of– again,
• 15:34
Speaker 6: outside of me reading the actual information– If it was
• 15:38
Speaker 6: to a higher level, then I think he would have
• 15:41
Speaker 6: already been gone and dismissed, and they would have found
• 15:43
Speaker 6: a way out of that contract. So I don't believe
• 15:45
Speaker 6: the allegations are to a point where we can say,
• 15:48
Speaker 6: cut him and cut bait. So I think there's smoke,
• 15:52
Speaker 6: there's fire, but also there may not be as much
• 15:55
Speaker 6: fire as we think.
• 15:57
Speaker 3: And what I'll say to that.
• 15:59
Speaker 4: They had an independent arbitrator look at that. That's the
• 16:02
Speaker 4: reason he got the suspension. That's the reason he had
• 16:04
Speaker 4: the 11-game suspension because— They felt like that under league policy,
• 16:09
Speaker 4: you know, his actions constituted sexual assault.
• 16:13
Speaker 6: But I think also there's conduct detrimental to the team,
• 16:17
Speaker 6: and they can use that to justify cutting your contract.
• 16:20
Speaker 6: So I think if it was to that level, they
• 16:22
Speaker 6: would have got rid of him from that level.
• 16:25
Speaker 3: You would think, or do they just not have, do
• 16:29
Speaker 3: they not see Shador?
• 16:34
  Speaker 4: Shador's waiting.
• 16:35
Speaker 3: They don't want Shador. I don't think so either. They
• 16:38
Speaker 3: don't want him there. Now, again, I think he could
• 16:42
Speaker 3: end up becoming a good quarterback, but I don't know
• 16:47
Speaker 3: if that's going to be, quote, in a rookie season.
• 16:50
Speaker 3: I mean, Hollis, you know. At each level that you
• 16:54
Speaker 3: go up, that first year is not that easy.
• 16:58
Speaker 6: But I think to your point earlier, it's the Browns franchise,
• 17:01
Speaker 6: so it's not a franchise conducive to producing quarterbacks. So
• 17:06
Speaker 6: it's just one of them situations where this is just
• 17:08
Speaker 6: a lose-lose for everybody. And I think once you get
• 17:12
Speaker 6: a new direction at the front office, that's going to
• 17:15
Speaker 6: be the only thing that changes this ship. And I
• 17:17
Speaker 6: think we're going to find ourselves in a year or
• 17:19
Speaker 6: two years where All these quarterbacks are different places or
• 17:22
Speaker 6: not playing, and then they're going to have to start over.
• 17:25
Speaker 6: But I think the first place the Browns have to
• 17:26
Speaker 6: start over is in the front office. Until you get
• 17:29
Speaker 6: that squared away, it doesn't matter.
• 17:31
Speaker 3: And to that, Hollis, just to close out on this
• 17:33
Speaker 3: subject is, as a former Browns fan, The Browns have been.
• 17:39
Speaker 4: Former? Did you give up?
• 17:40
Speaker 3: Well, I went to the Vikings. Forget the Browns. They
• 17:44
Speaker 3: paid the check. That was your childhood. That was your
• 17:47
Speaker 3: childhood team. You could like two teams. No, no. It's
• 17:51
Speaker 3: Minnesota Vikings, baby. I grew up... They cut a check.
• 17:54
Speaker 3: Forget that. I just think, though, that, you know, that
• 18:00
Speaker 3: Browns history, recent history, has been really, really... Just ugly.
• 18:09
Speaker 3: And you know, whether it's coaches, whether it's players, whether
• 18:13
Speaker 3: it's administration, and when I say administration, the people who
• 18:17
Speaker 3: are drafting, all these kinds of things. And then when
• 18:21
Speaker 3: you go and get your door, you did that to me,
• 18:24
Speaker 3: in my mind, for popularity and notoriety. Everybody's going to
• 18:28
Speaker 3: be looking at us. Okay, well, he's not going to start,
• 18:32
Speaker 3: which I understand that. I understand you don't necessarily want
• 18:35
Speaker 3: to get him out there early, give him some two
• 18:38
Speaker 3: or three games and then get him in there. But
• 18:40
Speaker 3: is he going to change the whole team? Are you
• 18:43
Speaker 3: putting the responsibility on him to change the whole direction
• 18:49
  Speaker 3: of the team? I don't think he's– I don't care
• 18:56
Speaker 3: how great Deion was. I don't think that young man
• 19:00
Speaker 3: can go into the Browns and turn them around. I
• 19:05
Speaker 3: just don't see that happening. He's going to get knocked around.
• 19:08
Speaker 3: He's going to get beat up.
• 19:08
Speaker 4: Well, it's not going to happen this year because he's
• 19:10
Speaker 4: not starting. So, I mean, unless.
• 19:14
Speaker 3: Deshaun gets hurt. I think he's going to end up
• 19:17
Speaker 3: possibly by week three.
• 19:19
  Speaker 4: You think?
• 19:19
  Speaker 3: By week three.
• 19:20
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 19:21
Speaker 3: I think by week three, I think at some point,
• 19:24
Speaker 3: and usually it's right around three and four games, the
• 19:27
  Speaker 3: opening games.
• 19:28
  Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
• 19:29
Speaker 3: They give him a chance to get used to the
• 19:31
Speaker 3: regular practices and all that kind of stuff, and they
• 19:32
Speaker 3: pop him in. And I think they're in a position
• 19:35
Speaker 3: where they have to. They have to let both of
• 19:37
Speaker 3: the quarterbacks play. Fan base ain't going to happen.
• 19:38
  Speaker 6: Well, I don't think it's a fan base thing. I
• 19:40
Speaker 6: think they just have to let them both play in
• 19:41
Speaker 6: order to establish value. So we got to figure out
• 19:44
Speaker 6: if he can play, and then we can move him.
• 19:47
  Speaker 4: See what happens.
• 19:48
Speaker 3: See what happens, yeah. Well, so.
• 19:54
Speaker 4: Let's talk about what's happening in NFL with their players
• 19:57
  Speaker 4: going back to.
• 19:58
  Speaker 3: The transfer down.
• 19:59
Speaker 4: Yes, the transfer down. That's a good way to put it.
• 20:03
Speaker 3: All right, so there's a situation that we have now. Several.
• 20:07
Speaker 3: Several of players who get drafted into the league, practice
• 20:15
Speaker 3: or so, so many weeks, days, whatever, and then decide
• 20:22
Speaker 3: that they're going to go back and play college ball.
• 20:26
Speaker 3: And this is based off of the class of 2022.
• 20:28
  Speaker 1: Yes.
• 20:30
Speaker 6: Where they only got four years and they retroacted the NCAA,
• 20:33
Speaker 6: changed the rule to now you have five years. So
• 20:36
Speaker 6: now they're suing in order to get that one year
• 20:39
  Speaker 6: of extra eligibility.
• 20:40
Speaker 4: They weren't redshirted. So that's the reason why they get
• 20:42
Speaker 4: that extra year. But it's interesting because what's going on,
• 20:47
Speaker 4: and this is the most interesting part, is how the
• 20:50
Speaker 4: power conferences are handling this, this whole situation. You've got
• 20:54
Speaker 4: So many different reactions, you know, between the different conferences.
• 20:59
Speaker 4: You've got, of course, you know, I think it was
• 21:02
Speaker 4: the Big Ten. They're the ones that unanimously approved a
• 21:07
Speaker 4: rule banning any player who has appeared on an NFL roster,
• 21:12
Speaker 4: signed a pro contract, or entered the NFL draft without withdrawing.
• 21:16
Speaker 4: So they're pretty much saying this is not happening in
• 21:19
Speaker 4: our conference, period, okay?
• 21:20
Speaker 3: Right. I'm with that.
• 21:21
Speaker 4: We're with that. Then you've got the Big 12 and
• 21:24
Speaker 4: the ACC saying, oh, we're going to sit back and
• 21:27
Speaker 4: evaluate these bands. You know, we're going to consider it. But,
• 21:31
Speaker 4: you know, we may do some similar things, but, you know,
• 21:33
Speaker 4: we're not sure. So the SEC comes out and says, oh, well,
• 21:37
Speaker 4: we're going to vocally oppose it, but we're not going
• 21:39
Speaker 4: to stop it. But we're not going to stop it.
• 21:42
Speaker 4: So guess who our favorite, I don't want to say villain,
• 21:46
Speaker 4: but Lane Kiffin is all over at LSU.
• 21:49
  Speaker 2: Smart.
• 21:50
  Speaker 3: Why not?
• 21:52
Speaker 6: And the thing is, and this proves my point of
• 21:56
Speaker 6: why we need to get rid of the NCAA. It
• 21:58
Speaker 6: is a useless organization. It's totally useless. And I would say, look,
• 22:07
Speaker 6: get the NCAA needs to just step out of the
• 22:10
Speaker 6: way for women's basketball, men's basketball and football. Just let
• 22:14
Speaker 6: them operate. You can do all the Olympic sports. So
• 22:16
Speaker 6: y'all can handle the Olympic sports. But for the big
• 22:20
Speaker 6: three of college football.
• 22:21
Speaker 4: I don't think the Olympic sports want them either.
• 22:23
  Speaker 3: It's just terrible.
• 22:23
Speaker 6: Because, like, how do you just not, okay, we see
• 22:26
Speaker 6: this coming. Or maybe you don't see it coming. No,
• 22:28
Speaker 6: you've got to see it coming. I mean, maybe you don't.
• 22:30
Speaker 6: Maybe you don't. Maybe you don't. But immediately just make
• 22:34
Speaker 6: a rule. Just make a, okay, look, we'll let it
• 22:37
Speaker 6: go this year because we didn't have a rule for it.
• 22:40
Speaker 6: But moving forward, this is the new rule. Once you sign,
• 22:42
Speaker 6: you're done. Just make the rule. Like, how hard is this?
• 22:48
Speaker 6: And now you got all these conferences doing different things
• 22:51
Speaker 6: because now you're going to cry foul when the SEC
• 22:55
Speaker 6: has two or three NFL guys back and then the
• 22:57
Speaker 6: Big 12 and they meet each other in big, low
• 22:59
  Speaker 6: games and playoffs.
• 23:00
Speaker 3: Now it's going to be, well, they had NFL guys.
• 23:02
Speaker 3: You know, like, what are we doing?
• 23:03
  Speaker 4: I mean, it's true.
• 23:05
Speaker 3: I mean, it should be. I don't care. Whenever you leave.
• 23:11
Speaker 3: middle school and go to high school, you're in high school.
• 23:15
Speaker 3: You leave high school, you go to college, you're in college.
• 23:18
Speaker 3: You leave college, go to play in the pros, you're
• 23:22
Speaker 3: in the pros. There is no back. I don't care
• 23:25
Speaker 3: what your birthday is. I don't care what none of
• 23:27
Speaker 3: those kind of things. You are in that particular level
• 23:31
Speaker 3: because I played four years. Oh, but you know what?
• 23:35
Speaker 3: I get five. I can get five. So I want
• 23:39
Speaker 3: to go... And I'm on the Vikings... Maybe I might
• 23:43
Speaker 3: be getting– I think I could be getting cut. So
• 23:45
Speaker 3: what I want to do is I want to go back.
• 23:47
Speaker 3: I want to go back to Marshall and get me
• 23:48
  Speaker 3: another year.
• 23:49
Speaker 4: And let's just call out the elephant in the room.
• 23:50
Speaker 4: The reason this is happening is because of NIL. That
• 23:53
Speaker 4: is the bottom line. They can get paid more money,
• 23:57
Speaker 4: more everything at the collegiate level than they're getting at
• 24:00
Speaker 4: the NFL level. As a rookie.
• 24:03
Speaker 3: See, and that's why you have to cap NIL because
• 24:09
Speaker 3: of that because, again– How is it possible that you're
• 24:13
Speaker 3: going to be in college making more money than you're
• 24:15
Speaker 3: going to be making in the pro?
• 24:16
Speaker 6: But how do we cap it? Because, again, to my point,
• 24:20
Speaker 6: when you say cap it, that means you cap it
• 24:22
Speaker 6: for the Olympic athletes, too.
• 24:24
Speaker 3: And they don't have a professional.
• 24:26
Speaker 6: They're not going to make nothing in the professional ranks
• 24:28
Speaker 6: if you're like a professional lacrosse player. So are we
• 24:32
Speaker 6: going to cap it for certain sports and not others?
• 24:34
Speaker 4: No. You have to cap it for all of them.
• 24:35
  Speaker 4: I mean, it's unfortunate, but I think that's just the
• 24:37
  Speaker 4: way it.
• 24:37
Speaker 3: Has to be. It has to be across the board.
• 24:39
Speaker 6: But if I'm an Olympic athlete, I'm saying, like, why
• 24:42
Speaker 6: do you got to? I don't want it capped because
• 24:44
Speaker 6: this is the opportunity. This is the only opportunity I
• 24:47
Speaker 6: have to make money.
• 24:47
Speaker 3: But the cap could be different there than maybe it is.
• 24:51
Speaker 6: But you can't do that. You can't cap it for
• 24:54
Speaker 6: one sport. NCAA, Title IX, and all them other things,
• 24:58
Speaker 6: it has to be equal.
• 25:01
Speaker 4: Yeah, he's right. But I mean, to me, if you're
• 25:04
Speaker 4: playing one of those Olympic sports, the likelihood of you
• 25:07
Speaker 4: making even close to what the football players are making
• 25:10
Speaker 4: is is it's one in a million chances. Really? Let's
• 25:13
  Speaker 4: look at that.
• 25:13
  Speaker 3: I mean, that's true. Yeah.
• 25:15
Speaker 6: But if I'm like somebody who's popular on social media. Well, yeah,
• 25:19
Speaker 6: but I could I could raise that maybe not based
• 25:21
Speaker 6: strictly on performance or viewership. But but, you know, other factors,
• 25:26
Speaker 6: I can make a lot of money. So you're going
• 25:28
Speaker 6: to cap it for me too? That's just not. So
• 25:30
Speaker 6: what I'm saying is like, it just doesn't.
• 25:31
Speaker 3: I understand. But let me ask this question. Does the
• 25:35
Speaker 3: NFL have to work necessarily care about what the Olympic
• 25:40
Speaker 3: sports are doing? Or do we, or can we. We
• 25:43
Speaker 3: talking about college. I ain't talking about the NFL. Okay.
• 25:45
Speaker 3: So if I'm college football.
• 25:47
  Speaker 4: I know what you're saying.
• 25:48
Speaker 3: Do I have to worry about what's happening in the Olympics?
• 25:51
Speaker 3: You do because you're funding everything. College. That's the college football.
• 25:55
  Speaker 2: I'm funding.
• 25:56
Speaker 3: I'm funding. The players who come to Marshall, I'm funding them. No,
• 26:00
Speaker 3: Marshall football funds the athletic department. Well, that's true. Yeah.
• 26:05
Speaker 4: Let me throw this point out. So when I was
• 26:06
Speaker 4: doing the research today, I came across this, and it
• 26:08
Speaker 4: said that in order for an NFL rookie player to
• 26:12
Speaker 4: go back to the collegiate level or playing field, they
• 26:17
Speaker 4: have to be waived or released by the franchise. So, obviously,
• 26:25
Speaker 4: what if the NFL had a player that they felt
• 26:27
Speaker 4: like was really, really valuable and was going to be good,
• 26:30
Speaker 4: like somebody that was like a Heisman player.
• 26:32
Speaker 3: And they didn't want to cut.
• 26:32
Speaker 4: And he says, I want to go back. Would they,
• 26:35
Speaker 4: you know, would that cause like a.
• 26:37
Speaker 3: That could be a sticky situation.
• 26:39
Speaker 6: It could be if they feel like maybe he is good,
• 26:42
Speaker 6: but he needs some more development. So we'll cut you,
• 26:44
Speaker 6: go back, get another year, and then we'll redraft you.
• 26:47
Speaker 4: They could do that, or they might say, yeah, we're
• 26:49
  Speaker 4: keeping you.
• 26:50
Speaker 3: Is there a guarantee that you can get him in
• 26:53
Speaker 3: the draft the following year?
• 26:55
Speaker 4: Well, that's true, too.
• 26:56
  Speaker 6: I mean, it's not a guarantee. It's all, you know,
• 26:57
Speaker 6: roll of the dice. But I'm just saying, and I'm
• 27:00
Speaker 6: in agreement. I think once you sign the NFL, once
• 27:03
Speaker 6: you get drafted, Once you go, and I say the
• 27:05
Speaker 6: same thing for basketball, just go play professional. You shouldn't
• 27:08
Speaker 6: be allowed to come back. Like, again, if you get drafted,
• 27:11
Speaker 6: you don't sign anything, and you don't go to camp,
• 27:13
  Speaker 6: that's a different situation.
• 27:14
  Speaker 3: That's a different situation.
• 27:15
Speaker 6: But once you, like, actually go to camp and you're
• 27:17
Speaker 6: actually participating in practice, come on, man.
• 27:19
Speaker 3: Move forward. To that point, if you participate, if you
• 27:23
Speaker 3: get drafted, I think if you get drafted, you're– To me,
• 27:27
Speaker 3: I think you're in. Or you sign. I'll say sign
• 27:32
Speaker 3: or draft. No, here's the problem with if I draft you.
• 27:34
Speaker 3: Let's say I draft you one. And then you decide
• 27:37
Speaker 3: you want to do something different. But them guys ain't
• 27:39
Speaker 3: going back. We're not talking about those guys. Nobody getting
• 27:43
Speaker 3: drafted when it's going back to college. Okay? We're talking
• 27:46
Speaker 3: about seven rounds back. We'll see. We'll see. Undrafted preseason.
• 27:49
Speaker 3: We'll see. I don't know, though. Or late round draft picks.
• 27:52
Speaker 3: Late round draft picks.
• 27:53
  Speaker 2: Anymore.
• 27:53
Speaker 4: The NIL, the way they pay. But what about our
• 27:57
Speaker 4: boy Lane Kiffin down here? He's playing like– I mean,
• 28:00
Speaker 4: what is up with what he's doing and saying? The SEC,
• 28:05
Speaker 4: you know, made that strong statement like, you know, we
• 28:07
Speaker 4: don't approve of this. You know, it's not something that
• 28:12
Speaker 4: we feel like is right. We're opposing this trend. And
• 28:15
Speaker 4: he comes out and says, hey, if I don't sign them,
• 28:18
Speaker 4: you know, our rivals will.
• 28:20
Speaker 3: He writes. That is true.
• 28:22
Speaker 4: But shouldn't the SEC kind of rein in what he's saying?
• 28:25
Speaker 4: Like that makes the league look bad.
• 28:26
Speaker 3: They should control the system. It's out of control. Yes.
• 28:31
Speaker 3: And they're not willing to step in and say no.
• 28:35
Speaker 3: The SEC is about winning.
• 28:37
Speaker 6: So if they get an advantage, if they get any advantage,
• 28:40
Speaker 6: whether you're talking about playing players, whether you're talking about
• 28:43
Speaker 6: getting former NFL guys, they're going to do it. The
• 28:46
Speaker 6: SEC don't care about that. They want to win.
• 28:48
Speaker 3: It's football and everything else down there.
• 28:51
Speaker 4: Do you not think there would be an asterisk beside
• 28:54
Speaker 4: a team like LSU if they would have these two
• 28:57
Speaker 4: or three NFL players come in and they should happen
• 29:00
Speaker 4: to win a national championship?
• 29:01
Speaker 3: I don't think so at all.
• 29:02
Speaker 4: You don't think people would bring that up?
• 29:03
Speaker 3: Indiana had dudes that were like 27 last year.
• 29:05
Speaker 4: Yeah, but they weren't on an active roster with the
• 29:09
Speaker 4: NFL and came back.
• 29:11
  Speaker 3: I mean, you're right.
• 29:11
  Speaker 6: I ain't saying you're not wrong, but I don't think
• 29:13
Speaker 6: it'd be an asterisk. I think the asterisk days are
• 29:15
Speaker 6: over for college sports until we can reign it back in.
• 29:18
Speaker 6: Because of all the movement, I mean, and all the
• 29:20
Speaker 6: things and paying players. Them days are gone.
• 29:24
Speaker 3: How long do you think, when you look back, when
• 29:29
Speaker 3: was the first sign of, uh-oh, college sports is in trouble?
• 29:35
  Speaker 3: I'll tell you.
• 29:37
Speaker 6: The Ed O'Bannon lawsuit, in, I think it was the
• 29:39
Speaker 6: early 2000s, 90s, or it might have been late 90s,
• 29:41
Speaker 6: but again, you can look it up. Ed O'Bannon lawsuit.
• 29:46
Speaker 6: So back in the day, they had the NCAA football
• 29:49
Speaker 6: games and the basketball games. And his argument essentially was like,
• 29:53
Speaker 6: we need to get a piece of that. So if
• 29:54
Speaker 6: you're selling tickets or you're selling my jersey or you're
• 29:57
Speaker 6: selling my likeness, Just give us a piece of that.
• 30:00
Speaker 6: That was the point in which the NCAA could have said, okay,
• 30:03
Speaker 6: we're going to create a revenue sharing model. I'm telling you,
• 30:06
  Speaker 6: and I don't care what anybody says, if it's 2004, 2003, 2002,
• 30:13
  Speaker 6: if you give top players at that time $ 10, 000 a month, $ 5, 000
• 30:17
Speaker 6: a month, a couple thousand a month, just far as
• 30:19
Speaker 6: in the revenue share, they would have been totally satisfied. Remember,
• 30:23
Speaker 6: nobody was asking for these millions and hundreds of thousands
• 30:26
Speaker 6: of dollars. They was asking for it. pure little piece
• 30:28
Speaker 6: of the pie just to compensate me for what I'm
• 30:31
Speaker 6: doing and what you're selling and promoting. NCAA's failure to act,
• 30:36
Speaker 6: it was Mark Emmond, I think he was the commissioner
• 30:39
Speaker 6: at the time, their failure to act and failure to
• 30:42
Speaker 6: see the future from that standpoint, that was the beginning
• 30:45
  Speaker 6: of the end.
• 30:47
Speaker 3: Okay? If I were going to defend him and say, okay,
• 30:53
Speaker 3: he couldn't picture this happening. Could you, could you, could
• 30:57
Speaker 3: you give him that?
• 30:58
Speaker 6: No, because you can't, because what you, because remember around
• 31:02
Speaker 6: that time, You had the TV deals happening. So remember,
• 31:06
Speaker 6: Notre Dame, Mark, they was kind of the first that
• 31:08
Speaker 6: had the big TV deal. Then you had teams like
• 31:11
Speaker 6: Texas and the Floridas and the Florida States and the Miamis.
• 31:13
Speaker 6: They were getting like these individual TV deals. Then the
• 31:16
Speaker 6: conferences were getting these big TV deals. So all this
• 31:19
Speaker 6: money was out there. You know, you're talking about like
• 31:21
Speaker 6: what the revenue and the viewership of the national championships
• 31:25
Speaker 6: and the big bowl games. So you can't have all
• 31:27
Speaker 6: this money circulating around these players and then just say, hey, Well,
• 31:32
Speaker 6: you should be happy with a scholarship. And then in turn,
• 31:34
Speaker 6: and then in turn say, well, if an agent or
• 31:37
Speaker 6: somebody's dad buys you a Happy Meal from McDonald's, now
• 31:41
Speaker 6: we're going to suspend you for it forever. So they
• 31:43
Speaker 6: put all the onus on the players, didn't share any
• 31:46
Speaker 6: of the money, a little slice. And remember, players was
• 31:49
Speaker 6: just asking for a little. They weren't asking for that much.
• 31:52
Speaker 6: They were asking for a little bit, a little bit,
• 31:54
Speaker 6: a little taste. That's all they were asking for. So
• 31:57
Speaker 6: their failure to act, the failure to see the future,
• 31:59
Speaker 6: the failure to see where this is going, particularly when
• 32:01
Speaker 6: you had those big TV contracts, that was the beginning
• 32:05
Speaker 6: of the end. And again, too often we like to
• 32:07
Speaker 6: pick the onus on the players. And remember, remember what
• 32:11
Speaker 6: coaches were doing at the time, too. So now we've
• 32:14
Speaker 6: seen these big exorbitant coaching contracts. Remember Jimbo Fisher? 70
• 32:18
Speaker 6: plus million is a buyout. And then what were coaches doing?
• 32:23
Speaker 6: We seen it with Rich Rod, right? They would lead
• 32:25
Speaker 6: a team. The team would be, you know, 12-1 or 11-2.
• 32:29
Speaker 6: Really good seasons. So they go from, like, a mid-major or, like,
• 32:33
Speaker 6: a lower-level power five to, like, the big dogs. And
• 32:36
Speaker 6: then what would they do? Not coach the ball game.
• 32:40
Speaker 6: And they said nothing about that. So when you have
• 32:43
Speaker 6: all these things combined and the NCAA's failure to act
• 32:46
Speaker 6: in their own mission, that was then.
• 32:50
Speaker 3: So it's on them.
• 32:51
Speaker 6: That's why they're a useless organization and they should be disbanded.
• 32:55
Speaker 3: If we disband them, what would control and who would
• 33:05
Speaker 3: be in... Are you going to leave it to the conferences?
• 33:10
Speaker 6: I like your idea where we take third parties who
• 33:14
Speaker 6: ain't got nothing to do with nothing. They're not affiliated
• 33:18
Speaker 6: with or not directly affiliated with the schools. You might
• 33:22
Speaker 6: be alumni, but you're not directly affiliated with school. You
• 33:25
Speaker 6: have a collection of former players. You have a collection
• 33:27
Speaker 6: of current players. You have a collection of coaches. And
• 33:33
Speaker 6: then you would have some administrators as far as the schools.
• 33:37
Speaker 6: So I think you have that board together. And to
• 33:41
Speaker 6: your point, and I like what you said, everything is transparent.
• 33:44
Speaker 3: All the meetings... You can view them all. There's notes.
• 33:48
Speaker 6: Everything is transparent. They come up with the rules, the guidelines,
• 33:52
Speaker 6: and everything. And you're getting all perspectives. And everything is
• 33:55
Speaker 6: on YouTube. So we can see who's voting for what,
• 33:58
Speaker 6: why they're voting for what, and all the things. Everything
• 34:01
  Speaker 6: is 100% transparent.
• 34:02
Speaker 3: Isn't it crazy, though, when you think about it, when
• 34:05
Speaker 3: you say transparency, that the first thing that comes to
• 34:09
Speaker 3: your mind is, they're not going to do that. You
• 34:13
Speaker 3: know what I'm saying?
• 34:14
  Speaker 4: Yeah, good point.
• 34:17
Speaker 3: There's no way they want to do that. And when
• 34:20
Speaker 3: has transparency ever been a problem if you're doing something right?
• 34:24
  Speaker 4: I don't know.
• 34:26
Speaker 6: I just think that's the way it ought to be.
• 34:27
Speaker 6: Like I said, I think that's the way it ought
• 34:30
Speaker 6: to be. And you're rotating, so you're not there forever.
• 34:33
Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying?
• 34:34
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 34:35
Speaker 6: You're there, like, maybe on a two- to three-year basis,
• 34:37
Speaker 6: and it's rotating in and out.
• 34:39
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 34:42
Speaker 3: And I'll say this. I think football is in the
• 34:50
Speaker 3: worst position now of all sports. I think they are
• 34:56
Speaker 3: heading to a space that who knows where it's going
• 35:01
Speaker 3: to blow up at. The amount of money that they're
• 35:04
Speaker 3: going to have to come up with to pay players
• 35:13
Speaker 3: What players are able to do now? You know, I'm
• 35:16
Speaker 3: going to stay back for more money.
• 35:18
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 35:19
Speaker 3: You know, I'm going to get drafted, but I'm going
• 35:22
Speaker 3: to come back and play another year. All these kinds
• 35:24
  Speaker 3: of things.
• 35:25
  Speaker 4: I worry about our mid-majors. That's who I worry about.
• 35:27
Speaker 4: I don't worry about these power, you know, the power conferences.
• 35:31
Speaker 4: It's the mid-majors that struggle to keep their bills paid,
• 35:34
Speaker 4: their football programs alive. I mean, you know, it's going
• 35:37
Speaker 4: to get to a point when these mid-majors, these kids,
• 35:40
Speaker 4: they can't even field a decent team. Because even if
• 35:44
Speaker 4: you're a decent player and you can go to Alabama
• 35:48
Speaker 4: and sit the bench and make this godless amount of money,
• 35:52
Speaker 4: and the mid-majors are struggling for their life just to
• 35:56
  Speaker 4: field a team. I mean, that's my worry. Like, I
• 35:58
Speaker 4: worry about teams like, you know, Marshall and our smaller
• 36:02
Speaker 4: schools here in West Virginia. And honestly, WU's, you know,
• 36:05
Speaker 4: they're pretty, you know, they're up there, but they're still not...
• 36:09
Speaker 4: an Alabama or an LSU, you know, they still have
• 36:12
Speaker 4: to worry a little bit too.
• 36:14
Speaker 3: Do you think, what about revenue sharing?
• 36:18
Speaker 4: They do that to a degree.
• 36:19
Speaker 6: I think they're starting that now where they, like, you
• 36:21
Speaker 6: get a certain, I forget the exact number.
• 36:23
Speaker 3: But it's conferences, right? I thought it was conferences and NCAA. See,
• 36:27
Speaker 3: if you do conference, you might only, on the lower conferences,
• 36:32
  Speaker 3: you're getting $ 10.
• 36:33
  Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
• 36:35
Speaker 3: But if you do, if you do it Quote, collegiate
• 36:39
Speaker 3: football is everybody gets a shot. So all the money
• 36:44
  Speaker 3: that we make.
• 36:45
Speaker 4: But do you think the SECs and the Big Ten
• 36:47
Speaker 4: would go for that?
• 36:48
  Speaker 3: I don't think so.
• 36:49
Speaker 4: I don't think so either. They need that money to
• 36:51
  Speaker 4: attract those players.
• 36:52
Speaker 6: There is some revenue-sharing model, but that's kind of not
• 36:54
Speaker 6: the end-all, be-all. I think there is something with the
• 36:58
Speaker 6: NCAA where everybody kind of gets a piece of the pie.
• 37:00
Speaker 6: But to your point, it's not significant enough to– To
• 37:03
Speaker 6: change it. I think those are just, you know, stabilization
• 37:06
Speaker 6: funds where you can actually, like, maintain your program.
• 37:09
  Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
• 37:10
Speaker 3: So. I think collegiate ball is really in a struggling place.
• 37:20
  Speaker 4: For some.
• 37:21
  Speaker 3: For some.
• 37:23
Speaker 6: But I would say, but I would agree. I think
• 37:25
Speaker 6: it's struggling for everybody because I think that you're going
• 37:28
Speaker 6: to ruin, like, the legacy of college football because again,
• 37:34
Speaker 6: we're letting the money dictate rivalries and like this team,
• 37:38
Speaker 6: like these two teams ain't playing each other or USC
• 37:42
Speaker 6: and Stanford's in the Big Ten now. It's like you're
• 37:45
Speaker 6: flying across the country every week. That doesn't make sense.
• 37:47
Speaker 4: And the days of, like we've said before, the days
• 37:49
Speaker 4: of knowing the names of the kids on the team
• 37:52
Speaker 4: from year to year.
• 37:53
Speaker 3: The T-bows and stuff like that.
• 37:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's gone. That's to the wayside because there's such
• 37:58
Speaker 4: a turnover all the time.
• 37:59
Speaker 3: And is the high school athlete looking for a school
• 38:05
Speaker 3: or is he looking for money?
• 38:08
Speaker 6: Well, I don't think– it's not significant enough right now
• 38:10
Speaker 6: where there's going to be a whole bunch of money
• 38:12
Speaker 6: in high school sports.
• 38:13
Speaker 3: No, I'm saying– When he leaves high school. When you
• 38:16
Speaker 3: leave it. Are you looking to be recruited by somebody
• 38:18
Speaker 3: who's going to pay you? I think you got to–
• 38:20
Speaker 3: It goes hand in hand, doesn't it? It goes hand
• 38:22
Speaker 3: in hand. I mean, if you're the best player in
• 38:23
Speaker 3: the state, I mean, you can go on a visit,
• 38:30
Speaker 3: see campus, hang out, do all the things that you
• 38:33
Speaker 3: do on recruiting trips, But what's going to matter is
• 38:37
Speaker 3: when you're sitting in that office and the AD and
• 38:42
Speaker 3: the coach is telling you how much money we're going
• 38:44
Speaker 3: to pay. I mean, that's crazy.
• 38:46
Speaker 6: If you're the top guy in West Virginia and it's
• 38:49
Speaker 6: coming down between West Virginia and Pitt, West Virginia can
• 38:51
  Speaker 6: pay you.
• 38:52
  Speaker 4: $ 100, 000.
• 38:53
  Speaker 6: A year and Pitt can pay you $ 250, 000. That's where
• 38:56
  Speaker 6: you're going.
• 38:57
  Speaker 3: That's where you're going. It's tough. It's a decision and
• 38:59
Speaker 3: it's probably going to come down to the money, right? Yeah. Yeah.
• 39:02
Speaker 3: That's sad. It's a shame, but that's literally where we are.
• 39:07
Speaker 4: That's where we are.
• 39:08
Speaker 3: Yep, and it's the NCAA's fault.
• 39:12
Speaker 4: Oh, boy. Last word. Last word, Hollis.
• 39:15
Speaker 3: All their fault. All right, so we've talked about the
• 39:21
Speaker 3: advancement of sports. Let's drop down and let's talk a
• 39:28
Speaker 3: little bit about you.
• 39:30
  Speaker 4: Sports.
• 39:31
Speaker 3: Youth football is kind of the thing that's going on now.
• 39:37
Speaker 3: When you guys look at it or hear it, when
• 39:41
Speaker 3: you hear youth sports.
• 39:43
Speaker 3: What comes to your mind? Is there something, is there
• 39:48
Speaker 3: like a positive side to it? Do you like all
• 39:51
Speaker 3: these little kids are out there having fun playing football?
• 39:53
Speaker 3: Or is it like, oh man, I can't even imagine
• 39:57
Speaker 3: what's it even going to look like? What is it
• 40:02
Speaker 3: that the outside world kind of, I'm inside of it,
• 40:05
  Speaker 3: so I don't really know.
• 40:07
Speaker 6: I think for me, like having little kids who participate
• 40:10
Speaker 6: in youth sports, it depends on the actual sports that
• 40:13
Speaker 6: they're playing. Like, I think some sports lend themselves to
• 40:17
Speaker 6: being more developmental and about fun. So that's the sports
• 40:21
Speaker 6: that I push my daughters in. Like, I don't want
• 40:23
Speaker 6: them necessarily. Again, I want you to be competitive. I
• 40:25
Speaker 6: want you to get better. I want you to win
• 40:28
Speaker 6: or try to win. But I don't want it to
• 40:29
Speaker 6: be a toxic environment. And I think, unfortunately, you know, unfortunately,
• 40:35
Speaker 6: when it comes to football, when it comes to cheerleading,
• 40:38
Speaker 6: to me, those are just toxic environments. as far as
• 40:42
Speaker 6: on a youth level. And I would say it's pervasive
• 40:45
Speaker 6: not only here locally, but if you look on social media,
• 40:47
Speaker 6: it's everywhere. The things that coaches are doing, the things
• 40:51
Speaker 6: that parents are doing, it's a really, really toxic environment.
• 40:56
Speaker 6: From my opinion, from those two sports specifically.
• 41:04
Speaker 4: I'm going to go, I mean, I kind of agree
• 41:06
Speaker 4: with what Hollis is saying, but I'm going to go
• 41:08
Speaker 4: on to what is actually happening on the field in
• 41:11
Speaker 4: particular in football. And a concern for me, you know,
• 41:15
Speaker 4: is the risk of, of those, you know, especially if
• 41:19
  Speaker 4: you're talking about five-year-olds, I think that's the youngest you
• 41:22
Speaker 4: can go. Or is it three? Is it younger than five?
• 41:24
  Speaker 3: Okay.
• 41:25
Speaker 4: So you've got this risk of, of, of, you know,
• 41:29
Speaker 4: these kids are, their brains are developing. They're, you know,
• 41:33
Speaker 4: they're still growing and you've got this risk of, unless
• 41:36
Speaker 4: they're taught properly the way to hit, you've got head trauma.
• 41:39
Speaker 4: And we all know that what, you know, continued hits
• 41:43
Speaker 4: or blows to your head and brain area, the more
• 41:46
Speaker 4: likely that you're going to have issues later on in life, neurologically,
• 41:50
Speaker 4: particularly CTE. You know, for me, I agree with the
• 41:57
Speaker 4: outside part of the game can be toxic. The game itself,
• 42:01
Speaker 4: to me, it needs to be analyzed. In fact, I'll
• 42:05
Speaker 4: just give you, I did a little research. Imagine that.
• 42:08
Speaker 4: Did some research about, you know, what some of these
• 42:12
Speaker 4: different higher institutions think of youth sports at, you know,
• 42:17
Speaker 4: the younger ages. And there was some research from Boston
• 42:20
Speaker 4: University and groups like the Aspen Institute and And they
• 42:24
Speaker 4: suggested delaying tackle football until the age of 14 or later.
• 42:29
Speaker 3: So high school, essentially.
• 42:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, high school, essentially. And that was a pretty recent study.
• 42:34
Speaker 4: And their reasoning was kind of what I just said.
• 42:38
Speaker 4: Unless it's taught properly, it can be very dangerous.
• 42:43
Speaker 3: And it's tough to be taught properly because you don't
• 42:48
Speaker 3: have guys who are coaching it. Could be dads. Exactly.
• 42:55
Speaker 3: Who don't necessarily always know what drills to do or
• 43:00
Speaker 3: what needs to be done. But then there are some
• 43:05
Speaker 3: that are tough-minded, and now we want to do more physicality.
• 43:09
Speaker 3: We want to hit and do all those kind of things.
• 43:12
Speaker 3: But my thoughts of youth sports is I think we
• 43:21
Speaker 3: should do at each level We can change it a
• 43:25
Speaker 3: little bit. So I think when you first start playing
• 43:28
Speaker 3: youth football, it should be flagged.
• 43:32
  Speaker 4: The five-year-old.
• 43:33
Speaker 3: The five-year-old. I think it should be. And I'm fine
• 43:36
Speaker 3: with them in helmets and shoulder pads and all that
• 43:37
Speaker 3: kind of stuff. Put the flag on the side and
• 43:40
Speaker 3: let them go. so they can still do all the
• 43:43
Speaker 3: contact and all that kind of stuff, but it's not
• 43:45
Speaker 3: necessarily tackling. You're not necessarily falling on the ground, head
• 43:50
Speaker 3: hitting the ground, all of those kinds of things. You
• 43:53
Speaker 3: can kind of take that to a minimum. I would
• 43:57
Speaker 3: probably do that from maybe five to seven. And then
• 44:02
Speaker 3: when you get to eight, now I think, okay, now
• 44:06
Speaker 3: we can start to try to put you in the helmet.
• 44:08
Speaker 4: So 14 is too late.
• 44:10
  Speaker 3: I think it's too late.
• 44:14
  Speaker 4: I mean, I'm just playing devil's advocate. I'm looking at
• 44:16
  Speaker 4: the research.
• 44:16
Speaker 3: Yeah, I understand. The reason I say that might be
• 44:20
Speaker 3: a little bit late because the kid that's pretty good,
• 44:26
Speaker 3: he's not going to get enough teaching yet before, boom,
• 44:29
Speaker 3: he's in the high school era. And I think that could.
• 44:32
Speaker 4: And not everybody's going to follow those rules.
• 44:34
  Speaker 2: Right, right.
• 44:34
Speaker 4: So that's going to put other players at a disadvantage.
• 44:37
Speaker 3: So I'd like to think that there could be you know,
• 44:42
Speaker 3: like this younger level is flag, and this next level,
• 44:46
Speaker 3: whatever those numbers are, okay, so now we're doing tackle.
• 44:49
Speaker 3: But what we're doing, because in youth now, at one
• 44:54
Speaker 3: level you can be on the field and then coaches
• 44:56
Speaker 3: have to go off the field at the older level.
• 44:58
Speaker 3: I think we keep the coaches on the field the
• 45:02
Speaker 3: entire time so he can see here in case there
• 45:06
Speaker 3: is something that takes place, a kid gets hit or
• 45:08
Speaker 3: something and we miss it, And the kid doesn't know
• 45:11
Speaker 3: what necessarily to do. We can we can get him out.
• 45:16
Speaker 3: And then once you get to middle school now, now
• 45:19
Speaker 3: you're all into the full tackle, all of that kind
• 45:23
Speaker 3: of stuff. And and I just think that's it's just
• 45:27
Speaker 3: safer to me. And it and it takes away all
• 45:30
Speaker 3: that contact that. We have prior to. I think you
• 45:35
Speaker 3: just got too many egos. So I think that egos ruin. Yes,
• 45:40
Speaker 3: I will give you that. I'm talking about specifically youth football.
• 45:43
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 45:44
  Speaker 3: And cheerleading.
• 45:44
Speaker 6: Because I think we don't talk about cheerleading enough where.
• 45:47
Speaker 6: I mean, the women be getting in fights at the
• 45:49
Speaker 6: cheerleading competitions every year. He'll tell you that.
• 45:52
  Speaker 3: Every year.
• 45:52
Speaker 6: No, no, and I'm not exaggerating. I'm talking about physical fistfights.
• 45:56
Speaker 6: It's the moms and the coaches fighting, literally. And I
• 46:00
Speaker 6: think you got way too many egos and way too
• 46:03
Speaker 6: many I want to win, way too many I want to.
• 46:06
Speaker 4: It's not about the kids.
• 46:07
Speaker 6: It's not about the kids. And I think until we
• 46:09
Speaker 6: change that. Because I would agree. I think you start,
• 46:13
Speaker 6: to me, you start tackling football maybe fourth and fifth
• 46:15
Speaker 6: grade and leading up to middle school. You know, but
• 46:19
Speaker 6: I just think we got too many egos and we
• 46:21
Speaker 6: got too much toxicity with surrounding youth football.
• 46:25
Speaker 4: So how do you change that? How do you change
• 46:26
  Speaker 4: that level of.
• 46:29
Speaker 3: I think the toxic side of it, I don't think
• 46:31
Speaker 3: that you can change it because I love football so much.
• 46:36
  Speaker 3: I can't wait until youth football starts, and I can't
• 46:38
Speaker 3: wait to get those kids out on the field. Like, that...
• 46:43
Speaker 3: That mentality, I don't think that you can change it.
• 46:46
Speaker 3: It looks good on one side. It sounds good at
• 46:49
Speaker 3: first until you get your kid out there and you
• 46:52
Speaker 3: watch your kid with that coach and you're like, well, whoa, whoa,
• 46:56
Speaker 3: wait a minute. This is my kid's first year. He
• 46:59
  Speaker 3: doesn't know anything.
• 47:02
Speaker 6: Like I said, I think you just have to have
• 47:04
Speaker 6: a paradigm shift and it has to be More governing bodies,
• 47:08
Speaker 6: you know, even if it's like, you know, where we're
• 47:11
Speaker 6: just looking at, like, it's basically you have, like, from
• 47:15
Speaker 6: the high school down that you have kind of an
• 47:18
Speaker 6: administrator who's, so it's the same district as whatever your
• 47:22
Speaker 6: high school is. You just, it's just kind of one
• 47:24
Speaker 6: organization from the high school to middle school to youth.
• 47:26
Speaker 6: to elementary, make it part of maybe the school or something.
• 47:29
Speaker 3: I don't know. It just, to me, it's just bad.
• 47:32
Speaker 3: And I was going to ask you that question because
• 47:34
Speaker 3: I do think that there has to be some form
• 47:37
Speaker 3: of outside leadership and somebody's in charge other than this
• 47:48
Speaker 3: board that is made up of coaches. Yeah. And that
• 47:53
  Speaker 3: doesn't work.
• 47:53
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 47:54
Speaker 6: I would just, I mean, if in a perfect world,
• 47:56
Speaker 6: I would just make it where it's just like the
• 47:58
Speaker 6: high school on down. So the high school, you streamline it.
• 48:01
Speaker 6: So your high school, your middle schools, and then who,
• 48:04
Speaker 6: who's ever within that high school, whatever elementaries are within
• 48:08
Speaker 6: that high school district. You just, y'all have like just
• 48:10
  Speaker 6: one big organization.
• 48:12
Speaker 4: But who would take that on? I mean, you couldn't
• 48:14
Speaker 4: ask the high schools to do that. Not necessarily high school.
• 48:17
Speaker 6: But like your outside administrator would kind of be, you
• 48:20
Speaker 6: have like an AD.
• 48:21
Speaker 4: It's hard to find people, I think, of quality because
• 48:24
Speaker 4: a lot of it's volunteer work.
• 48:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, but I'm saying pay everybody. That would be my answer.
• 48:29
Speaker 4: And where do you get the money?
• 48:30
  Speaker 6: I mean, it's money. It's $ 300 million. I hope scholars
• 48:33
Speaker 6: should be having money. That's a different argument. So the
• 48:36
Speaker 6: money's out there. I don't want to ever hear the
• 48:39
Speaker 6: state of West Virginia talk about money or lack thereof.
• 48:41
Speaker 3: The money's there. And I truly do. One of the
• 48:44
Speaker 3: things that I think is really, really important is I
• 48:47
Speaker 3: think that somebody in a higher level has to have
• 48:54
Speaker 3: a conversation about youth sports. And that's not just football.
• 48:57
Speaker 3: But football is definitely at the top of the list.
• 49:02
Speaker 3: But we have to have a discussion about what is
• 49:05
Speaker 3: going on in youth sports. And again, let me say this.
• 49:07
Speaker 6: And I don't want to single them out because I
• 49:09
Speaker 6: think all sports have a level of toxic to them.
• 49:12
Speaker 6: So we can find parents arguing and bickering about a
• 49:14
Speaker 6: bunch of sports. I just think it's more pervasive and
• 49:17
Speaker 6: more like we're just seeing it more in football generations.
• 49:20
Speaker 6: because of the nature of the game.
• 49:21
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 49:22
Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
• 49:23
Speaker 6: We've seen the young lady storm the field because her
• 49:26
Speaker 6: brother was allegedly, you know, getting hit hard the other day.
• 49:29
Speaker 6: I don't know if you guys seen it.
• 49:30
  Speaker 4: I don't think I saw that.
• 49:31
Speaker 6: It was a 16-year-old girl who came out of the
• 49:35
Speaker 6: stands and attacked the player from an opposing team because
• 49:37
Speaker 6: allegedly her brother was, quote, unquote, getting hit hard or,
• 49:41
Speaker 6: you know, what she thought was a personal foul. You
• 49:43
Speaker 6: know what I'm saying? That young lady's been charged. So
• 49:45
Speaker 6: I think we don't, we don't necessarily see that in
• 49:47
Speaker 6: like soccer games. You see that sometime in basketball, but
• 49:49
Speaker 6: you see that a lot in football. So I think
• 49:52
Speaker 6: just the nature of the game lends itself to that
• 49:54
Speaker 6: sort of toxic environment, but we have to, and I
• 49:57
Speaker 6: say this, we got to change it before like it
• 50:00
  Speaker 6: just self-destructs.
• 50:01
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 50:02
Speaker 6: Because I'm telling you, I'm telling you, you're going to
• 50:04
Speaker 6: see like the next Deion Sanders or, You're going to
• 50:06
Speaker 6: see the next LeBron James. They ain't playing basketball. They
• 50:09
Speaker 6: won't be playing football. They will be playing soccer.
• 50:11
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 50:11
Speaker 6: We're going to see that guy. We're going to see
• 50:13
Speaker 6: the Randy Moss of soccer, the best athlete in the
• 50:16
Speaker 6: state or the country.
• 50:17
Speaker 4: The paradigm is definitely changing.
• 50:19
Speaker 6: They're going to be playing soccer instead of football and basketball.
• 50:21
Speaker 6: We're going to see that. We've seen it because it's
• 50:23
Speaker 6: happened in baseball. It's happened with track. It's happened with
• 50:26
Speaker 6: sports already in our lifetime. Football is next. Yeah. I'm
• 50:30
Speaker 6: glad you said that because– It is true. Like, we're
• 50:35
Speaker 6: barely fielding three teams.
• 50:38
Speaker 3: At the youth level. At the youth level. And, you know,
• 50:41
Speaker 3: and I thought it was, hey, it was just us.
• 50:43
Speaker 3: But there are other people who are doing the same thing.
• 50:46
  Speaker 3: What was it?
• 50:47
Speaker 6: It was a league or a team in, what was it?
• 50:51
Speaker 6: Somewhere in southern West Virginia. where they had to, like,
• 50:53
Speaker 6: fold the team because they didn't have enough players.
• 50:55
Speaker 4: Was that in Greenbrier County, maybe?
• 50:57
Speaker 6: Yes, it was Greenbrier County. Yeah, they just had to
• 51:00
Speaker 6: fold up. And remember, that wasn't, you know, 10, 15, 20,
• 51:02
Speaker 6: 30 years ago. That wasn't even a fight.
• 51:05
Speaker 3: Oh, no. You had too many players. No, you had
• 51:06
Speaker 3: too– yeah, and you're trying to figure out a way
• 51:08
Speaker 3: to get all those players in the game.
• 51:10
Speaker 4: I mean, I remember when I participated years ago when
• 51:13
Speaker 4: the Dinosaurs were on the earth, when they had Little League,
• 51:15
Speaker 4: you know, for my age group. We had– Chesapeake had
• 51:19
  Speaker 4: a team.
• 51:20
  Speaker 3: East Bank.
• 51:20
Speaker 4: Marmette had a team. Bell had a team. Rand had
• 51:23
Speaker 4: a team. I mean, it was amazing how many, like.
• 51:26
Speaker 3: There were two teams in South Charleston.
• 51:28
Speaker 6: And you got to understand the Eastern Kanawha County, how
• 51:30
Speaker 6: small that is. Those communities, Chesapeake, Marmite, all those communities
• 51:34
  Speaker 6: are right there.
• 51:34
Speaker 3: Right. On top of each other. And all of them
• 51:36
  Speaker 3: have teams.
• 51:36
Speaker 4: All of them have teams.
• 51:38
Speaker 6: So it's just like, and I'm telling you, and what
• 51:39
Speaker 6: I would like to see as far as that Greenbrier County,
• 51:41
Speaker 6: I would like to see their soccer team, their soccer leagues.
• 51:44
Speaker 3: Because I bet you their soccer leagues are filled up.
• 51:46
Speaker 6: I bet you they are. I'm going to see if
• 51:48
Speaker 6: I can check on that. I would love to see
• 51:50
Speaker 6: the comparison analysis. You don't have a footballer. Youth League.
• 51:53
Speaker 3: How much has the soccer grown within those last couple
• 51:57
  Speaker 3: of years?
• 52:00
Speaker 6: And I'm just saying, anybody out there listening, we better
• 52:02
Speaker 6: fix it. If we don't fix it, it's going to
• 52:04
  Speaker 6: go bye-bye.
• 52:08
Speaker 4: And I like the idea of the flag football alternative.
• 52:11
Speaker 4: I really do for the younger ages. I mean, maybe
• 52:14
Speaker 4: not be as extreme as the studies say to go
• 52:16
Speaker 4: to 14, but at least until they're eight or nine
• 52:19
  Speaker 4: years old.
• 52:20
Speaker 3: And what will help, what also, excuse me to interrupt you,
• 52:22
Speaker 3: but- I think the piece that would help that is
• 52:27
Speaker 3: now it's not this yelling and screaming, overly... Yeah.
• 52:33
  Speaker 4: The hits.
• 52:34
Speaker 3: The hits and all that kind of stuff. You're just
• 52:36
Speaker 3: learning the game, learning positions, and then the only adjustment
• 52:41
Speaker 3: you make is you go from grabbing the flag to
• 52:44
Speaker 3: grabbing the player. And so it's not a whole lot
• 52:47
Speaker 3: that you have to learn to get to the next level,
• 52:51
Speaker 3: but you're protecting them prior to by doing the flag. Yeah,
• 52:56
Speaker 3: I don't know. Something's got to move and shake. Yeah, yeah.
• 53:01
Speaker 3: All right, well, ladies and gentlemen. We have one more thing.
• 53:03
  Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
• 53:04
Speaker 3: Do we got time? We got time? All right.
• 53:07
Speaker 4: Just a couple of minutes. Maybe play the clip, Matt,
• 53:10
Speaker 4: and I'm just going to add to it real quick.
• 53:11
Speaker 4: Game for Phoenix City.
• 53:14
Speaker 3: The hero is Brooks Cameron.
• 53:18
Speaker 7: The comeback is complete, and Alabama survives. Heartbreak for the
• 53:31
Speaker 7: kids from the Eastside Little League in Westchester.
• 53:35
  Speaker 3: The largest comeback.
• 53:37
Speaker 4: Okay, so all I want to say is do yourself
• 53:40
Speaker 4: a favor. If you are not watching ESPN today, at work,
• 53:44
Speaker 4: if you're at home during your afternoons, during the weekdays,
• 53:47
Speaker 4: turn it on and watch the Little League Baseball World Series.
• 53:52
Speaker 4: It is unbelievable that the games, the players. Last night,
• 53:57
Speaker 4: I actually turned a game on. The clip that just played,
• 54:01
Speaker 4: it was referring to a game between the Alabama team
• 54:05
Speaker 4: and the Pennsylvania Little League team. And Pennsylvania had Alabama
• 54:09
Speaker 4: down 5-0. And Alabama came back and beat them 6-5
• 54:14
Speaker 4: in an extra inning. These are kids. Like, you think
• 54:17
  Speaker 4: when you're watching Little League, if a team's down 5-0,
• 54:19
  Speaker 4: it's over. It's over.
• 54:20
  Speaker 7: Right?
• 54:21
Speaker 4: It's over. And then the one player, they call her
• 54:25
Speaker 4: Fear the Bow, I think is what her nickname is.
• 54:29
Speaker 4: Her name's Kenley Rasmus. Look her up. She is a
• 54:32
Speaker 4: phenom of the Little League World Series. She's breaking records.
• 54:36
Speaker 4: She is. plays both sides of the ball. She's pitching.
• 54:39
Speaker 4: She's catching the ball. She's hitting the ball. Check her out.
• 54:42
  Speaker 3: And she's on a men's team?
• 54:45
Speaker 4: Yes, she's on the boys' team. She's 12 years old,
• 54:48
Speaker 4: and her dad was actually a major league baseball pitcher.
• 54:51
Speaker 4: His name was Corey Rasmus. And her mom, Jill, was
• 54:55
Speaker 4: a standout at Southern Mississippi in softball. So there you go.
• 54:59
Speaker 4: But check it out. It's so fun.
• 55:01
Speaker 3: She's got the athleticism.
• 55:03
Speaker 4: Treat yourself and watch this stuff.
• 55:05
Speaker 3: It's always a fun event. All right, then, ladies and gentlemen,
• 55:09
Speaker 3: I will get back with you again next week.
• 55:37
  Speaker 1: Thank you.
