- 0:00Speaker 1: What's that. Okay, I'm Devil Driver coming down.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I'm I'm Dance from Devil Driver. Both dance from Devil Driver.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello, I'm Danny Filth from Cradle of Filth.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Good morning, Gods. I gotta know what I can throw
- 0:13Speaker 3: off one too, So I'm Chris Hey just gone. That's
- 0:18Speaker 3: just today. It's just so Double Driver and Cradle of
- 0:22Speaker 3: Bill touchdown in a stray very soon guy for Runner
- 0:25Speaker 3: show starting in Brisbane on July the night before hitting
- 0:28Speaker 3: Sydney and Melbourne. Finished it in Perth until the sixteenth,
- 0:32Speaker 3: so not long now. He is packed ready to go.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I packed all the wrong clothes apparently, that's what's happened.
- 0:41Speaker 2: That's today.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I am packed, and it's it's it's it's swarming hot
- 0:46Speaker 1: where I'm at now in California, and it's very hot
- 0:49Speaker 1: in the UK as well. So I can only speak
- 0:52Speaker 1: for myself, but I'm looking forward to coming down and
- 0:54Speaker 1: put it on a hoodie and a jacket and getting
- 0:57Speaker 1: some cold weather. To be honest with.
- 0:58Speaker 3: You, you'd been duble the Double Trouble Tour guys. Out
- 1:05Speaker 3: of the two of you, who's the more trouble you reckon?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Hey, the more trouble. He's manager. I'm not allowed to
- 1:12Speaker 2: get into trouble.
- 1:16Speaker 3: You reckons.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'm afraid we can both be trouble at times, and
- 1:21Speaker 1: that's what makes us who we are. I think I
- 1:23Speaker 1: don't think you'd have a good front man unless you
- 1:25Speaker 1: had a little bit of trouble. You know what I mean,
- 1:27Speaker 1: that you're able to cause some trouble. All the guys
- 1:30Speaker 1: that I look up to have certainly have caused trouble
- 1:32Speaker 1: in their lifetime.
- 1:35Speaker 3: So the unlikely but massively successful touring Union has been
- 1:38Speaker 3: going to the twenty twenty three and shows no signs
- 1:41Speaker 3: and flowing down. So when you first came up with
- 1:43Speaker 3: the idea of touring, did you think you'd still be
- 1:45Speaker 3: out together three years later?
- 1:49Speaker 1: Well, that was the aim.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I think we were going to plan to do it
- 1:51Speaker 2: a little bit more, to be honest, but I guess
- 1:55Speaker 2: it's about logistics and who's free when. Yeah, and it
- 2:02Speaker 2: just seemed very inviting to come down to we want
- 2:04Speaker 2: to go to Australia at different times or separate entities.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It just made sense we'll want to do it together.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, we were going to come down separately and
- 2:13Speaker 1: we decided to put it together.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I mean, look what the shows we did in America
- 2:18Speaker 2: to Australia.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it worked really well in America. Uh and
- 2:23Speaker 1: it's you know, it's two bands that are obviously quite different,
- 2:27Speaker 1: but man, it really works. Our fans love Cradle Cradles,
- 2:30Speaker 1: fans love Devil Driver, and I think there's just there's
- 2:33Speaker 1: something special, you know. I've heard We've done obviously a
- 2:37Speaker 1: lot of interviews, right, and a lot of people have said,
- 2:39Speaker 1: you know, it's refreshing, like this tour is refreshing. You're
- 2:43Speaker 1: not getting just four of the same band or five,
- 2:46Speaker 1: you know, five of the same band that sound the
- 2:48Speaker 1: same coming down. So yeah, I think people are in
- 2:51Speaker 1: for something here and it's very special this package. I mean, thus,
- 2:55Speaker 1: tickets are doing incredibly well. These are our last bit
- 2:59Speaker 1: of interviews before we even All I can say is
- 3:01Speaker 1: I would get tickets now. I wouldn't because they're large rooms.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I wouldn't wait for the day of you you may not,
- 3:07Speaker 1: you may not get in. So yeah, I'm looking forward
- 3:11Speaker 1: to it. I know Dan is as well.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah, sweet, and I'm sure you get to sitting hearing
- 3:19Speaker 3: about this, Danny about you're quite the Devil Driver. The
- 3:21Speaker 3: meet and the title is the Great Metal Wall, Cradle
- 3:23Speaker 3: of Filth, of the Exotic Dessert. So I'm not going
- 3:25Speaker 3: to ask you about it. I just want to say
- 3:27Speaker 3: that it sounds like a damn fine meal to me.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Absolutely, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Just get something real special, man, Kerry's yeah. I
- 3:42Speaker 1: mean you could tell. But just the way we cut
- 3:44Speaker 1: up with each other and stuff, we're very good friends.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I mean I would say best friends to be honest
- 3:48Speaker 1: with you. I don't talk to any other gentlemen as
- 3:50Speaker 1: much as I talk to Dan, and we're not always
- 3:52Speaker 1: talking business. As a matter of fact, it's probably you know,
- 3:54Speaker 1: a fifth of our conversations in life. But what I
- 3:58Speaker 1: did see in America was like, oh my god, the
- 4:01Speaker 1: Devil Driver fans are staying for Cradle. The Cradle fans
- 4:05Speaker 1: with Cradle shirts are you know, buying our shirts and
- 4:08Speaker 1: you know chanting Devil Driver Like so there was something
- 4:11Speaker 1: I want to use the word magical to be honest
- 4:13Speaker 1: with you. And then the crews all get along like
- 4:15Speaker 1: I'm using his sound, I'm using his sound guy, he's
- 4:18Speaker 1: using my monitor guy. Like it just all seems to
- 4:21Speaker 1: be really you know, working and and and a family
- 4:24Speaker 1: affair as well. So we're looking forward to days off
- 4:26Speaker 1: to hang out together and you know, put a shrimp
- 4:29Speaker 1: on the barbie in that whole shit. You know.
- 4:33Speaker 3: That fans expect any any on stage Cameo and I
- 4:37Speaker 3: jumping up with each other or anything like that.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Sometimes, well yeah, maybe maybe if you're in if you're
- 4:46Speaker 2: in Perth, then you might be witnessed to something.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so cradle of Filth. I've really been this guy
- 4:54Speaker 1: in my whole career where like the very last show
- 4:57Speaker 1: on a tour, there's pranks pulled on the bands. I've
- 5:00Speaker 1: never done that. A matter of fact, I tell bands
- 5:01Speaker 1: when they're out with me, like, don't do that. I
- 5:03Speaker 1: want to give everybody a great show. Danny fucking ignores
- 5:06Speaker 1: that completely and and and they have pulled some hilarious,
- 5:11Speaker 1: hilarious shit.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Been Daunce routines.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I would say, yeah, but coming out in a lobster
- 5:18Speaker 1: costume and like just hilarious shit. You know. So if
- 5:23Speaker 1: you're in Perth, you're gonna get a good time. Look.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I'll certainly be side stage watching for as much time
- 5:28Speaker 1: as I can before I got to go to the hotel.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm sure that Dan after doing you know, makeup and
- 5:32Speaker 1: anything he's got to do, will be side stage. We've
- 5:35Speaker 1: never discussed getting on stage together for anything. I certainly
- 5:39Speaker 1: respect Cradle a great deal and would love to do that,
- 5:42Speaker 1: but we've never had those conversations at this point. We
- 5:45Speaker 1: actually just had a conversation on the last interview about
- 5:48Speaker 1: possibly doing a song together for charity because we've been
- 5:50Speaker 1: friends for so long and never had a discussion about
- 5:53Speaker 1: jumping on each other's records or anything. So now I
- 5:56Speaker 1: think you know that may happen. But I look forward
- 5:59Speaker 1: to seeing Cradle of They'll destroy it every night. It's
- 6:02Speaker 1: one of the tightest bands you'll ever see. If you're
- 6:04Speaker 1: a Devil Driver fan, you've never seen Cradle of filth
- 6:06Speaker 1: or not familiar. This is one of the premier metal
- 6:09Speaker 1: bands in the world, and certainly one of my favorite,
- 6:13Speaker 1: even before I was manager or real tight friends with Danny.
- 6:17Speaker 1: But we've been friends off and on for many, many years.
- 6:20Speaker 1: So if you're coming out and you're a Devil Driver
- 6:22Speaker 1: fan you've never seen Cradle, get ready because you're just
- 6:25Speaker 1: gonna get ignited by amazing musicians and musicianship by a
- 6:30Speaker 1: front man who I respect a great, great deal. I
- 6:32Speaker 1: don't think anyone sounds like him or does what he does?
- 6:35Speaker 1: So can you do this?
- 6:37Speaker 2: Can you do this every night before we go on stage?
- 6:41Speaker 1: I certainly can. Yeah, Hey, everybody, Yeah, I certainly can.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Actually I don't mean, and I don't mean to kind
- 6:47Speaker 1: of gloat with my friend here, but but it is true.
- 6:51Speaker 1: If you're not familiar, make sure you come out because
- 6:53Speaker 1: you're gonna witness something special when it comes to Cradler Filth.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I'm like twice fans for Devil Driver as well. Everybody
- 7:02Speaker 2: is well versed, you know what I mean. The metal
- 7:04Speaker 2: community is very tight, and although I wouldn't say that
- 7:08Speaker 2: the bands are a million a mile apart, you know,
- 7:11Speaker 2: to the untrained diet, it's all it's all noise anyway,
- 7:17Speaker 2: The presshion.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Between each two guys goes back to the turn of
- 7:20Speaker 3: the centuries. So you just remember the time when he's
- 7:23Speaker 3: actually very Remember the time you very first actually met
- 7:29Speaker 3: each other, and what were your first impressions.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I think we wouldn't remember because we were so drunk.
- 7:35Speaker 2: It would have been like grass grasspop Pole. Maybe the
- 7:39Speaker 2: Krang Awards in London where we used to stay at
- 7:42Speaker 2: that weird hotel.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it was the Krang Awards when we
- 7:45Speaker 1: first met, and then we kept running into other a
- 7:48Speaker 1: download and other places like that. Every time we did,
- 7:51Speaker 1: we'd we'd say, hello, take a photo, have a pint
- 7:54Speaker 1: back in the days when we both don't drink anymore.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But I mean I I I have been a fan
- 8:00Speaker 1: of Cradle for a very very long time. It's one
- 8:03Speaker 1: of the reasons why when when Cradle needed management and
- 8:06Speaker 1: my wife owns a very large management company, we decided
- 8:10Speaker 1: to take on Cradle because I I am a super
- 8:13Speaker 1: fan and she is as well. I must say so,
- 8:16Speaker 1: it's one of my favorite bands on the planet. I
- 8:18Speaker 1: don't think you'll you'll find you'll find something as unique
- 8:23Speaker 1: as Cradle of Filth in the black metal community. A
- 8:25Speaker 1: lot of the black metal bands, to me, sound the same.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Danny does not. He does something that no other frontman
- 8:31Speaker 1: really does, and I think lyrically he's far and above
- 8:35Speaker 1: those other bands. Besides the fact they have a huge
- 8:38Speaker 1: fanatical feminine fan base as well, because let's face it,
- 8:43Speaker 1: Danny's a lover. So you know, I think, I think,
- 8:47Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be fantastic, man, you know, just
- 8:50Speaker 1: let's go, you know.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be good. It's gonna be good time.
- 8:53Speaker 2: It's gonna be great.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 3: You guys obviously spent a bit of ride tom on
- 8:58Speaker 3: the ride together over the years. What's each other's most
- 9:02Speaker 3: annoying habit or mannerism on the road?
- 9:07Speaker 1: Is there? Well, I don't know, Danny, Danny sleeps.
- 9:14Speaker 2: In your songs at the end of the Danny tends
- 9:19Speaker 2: to sleep.
- 9:19Speaker 1: He's a vampire, right, so Danny tends to sleep longer
- 9:22Speaker 1: than me. So if I want to go out to
- 9:23Speaker 1: breakfast or something, I gotta wait for Dan to get
- 9:26Speaker 1: up because I don't want to go without him. So, uh,
- 9:29Speaker 1: but we have a great time, man like you know,
- 9:31Speaker 1: And here's a small example. In Texas, I I happened
- 9:35Speaker 1: to love cowboy hats and outlaw country music. Obviously I
- 9:38Speaker 1: covered a record Outlaws Till the End by Devil Driver,
- 9:41Speaker 1: that's heavy metal country covers. But we found black cowboy
- 9:44Speaker 1: hats and that was it. For the rest of the tour.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Anything we wanted to do, we were wearing black cowboy
- 9:49Speaker 1: hats together, you know. So you got to have fun
- 9:51Speaker 1: in this world, and certainly traveling with his crew and
- 9:54Speaker 1: his band is a good time.
- 9:57Speaker 3: So along those lines of my life you did, how'd
- 10:00Speaker 3: you say you are done? He's manager as well, But
- 10:02Speaker 3: it caught me easywhere and bye Texel on the right
- 10:04Speaker 3: sometimes man like, how agy do you get evil.
- 10:07Speaker 1: One to night more with the other one that.
- 10:09Speaker 3: You get it? How effortlessly do you switch between that
- 10:17Speaker 3: light between choring musician mide and then if you have
- 10:20Speaker 3: to step into manager mid it easy.
- 10:22Speaker 1: For well, luckily when we're together. Like I said, my
- 10:26Speaker 1: wife is the CEO of the company and she's always
- 10:28Speaker 1: with us, so she's manager on these tours. I don't
- 10:31Speaker 1: you know, I may, I may have some conversations with
- 10:34Speaker 1: her over something, but really she's running the show and
- 10:37Speaker 1: I really wouldn't want to mess around with her. So
- 10:42Speaker 1: it's a good thing. She's a protector lion for both
- 10:45Speaker 1: of us, for both me and it's like the Brady Bunch.
- 10:48Speaker 1: You know, I'm looking at Danny like this. You know,
- 10:50Speaker 1: he's right below me right now. So it's wonderful to
- 10:53Speaker 1: have her out if anything does arise, Uh, we call
- 10:57Speaker 1: her Red, but Anastasia jumps right in so alien yeah,
- 11:03Speaker 1: read and allows me to kind of just just be
- 11:05Speaker 1: the artist on these tours.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Yeah, weet, Yeah, you both spent a bit of time
- 11:11Speaker 3: touring in Australia before my had and Australian.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Crowds were well known for being involved and packed it.
- 11:15Speaker 3: So what do you what's your most memorable AUDI tour
- 11:18Speaker 3: moment or my chaotic.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Well, I've already answered that today when I flooded a hotel.
- 11:28Speaker 2: They've always been really well. I actually got taken to
- 11:30Speaker 2: see the Bronx, the band of the Bronx, and that
- 11:33Speaker 2: was in Brisbane, I believe, and I hadn't seen them before,
- 11:38Speaker 2: and I could not believe that the place was packed.
- 11:43Speaker 2: But not only I mean I could believe it was packed,
- 11:45Speaker 2: but it was packed mostly with the most gorgeous looking
- 11:49Speaker 2: surfy girls. It was bizarre. It was like, what the
- 11:54Speaker 2: music is pretty? You know, yeah, it's heavy, and I
- 11:57Speaker 2: thought it was going to be and I was really
- 11:59Speaker 2: surprised just by how fanatical people were scale and the
- 12:06Speaker 2: sort of people, just the amount of people from different
- 12:10Speaker 2: walks of life they were there, and that was really
- 12:13Speaker 2: one of the first time you're it there and really
- 12:15Speaker 2: turn me onto it.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, the Aussie crowd is incredible. I mean, it's why
- 12:19Speaker 1: we have meet and greets on this thing as well.
- 12:20Speaker 1: You know, it's like come out, shake our hand meet
- 12:22Speaker 1: us like I want to meet people and sodas dan.
- 12:25Speaker 1: But when you come out on stage and you're playing
- 12:27Speaker 1: in front of an assy audience, that's that's another thing.
- 12:30Speaker 1: It gets incredibly loud. I mean I have to listen
- 12:34Speaker 1: to hear the first cues of my band because it's
- 12:38Speaker 1: just like it's unbelievable, you know. And then for us,
- 12:41Speaker 1: we're we're a pit band, so that floor is like
- 12:44Speaker 1: a honeybee swarm for us, and you know that's fantastic
- 12:49Speaker 1: for me. I come from a punk rock background first
- 12:51Speaker 1: actually before I loved metal, so I love when when
- 12:55Speaker 1: people get and put the boot in, you know. That's
- 12:58Speaker 1: that's what it's about. Not really that as long as
- 13:03Speaker 1: they take care of one another, you know what I mean.
- 13:04Speaker 1: That's and as long as they take care of one another.
- 13:06Speaker 1: But I just know that Australian fans are our next level.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Yeah for sure. Now you've got a new album, Striking
- 13:15Speaker 3: Tilden that's coming out the day off the Child stops, right,
- 13:18Speaker 3: I'll fucking fans, I think we have it. From your
- 13:21Speaker 3: point of view, you tell us a bit about it
- 13:22Speaker 3: and what bands can expect.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Well, I mean, it's been getting a lot of rave reviews.
- 13:27Speaker 1: You know, you put out a piece of art, you
- 13:28Speaker 1: really don't know what's going to happen until you do
- 13:29Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty interviews and everybody's given it nine
- 13:32Speaker 1: out of ten, ten out of ten. This one guy
- 13:34Speaker 1: the other day asked me if you can give it
- 13:35Speaker 1: a fifty out of ten. I said, you could do
- 13:37Speaker 1: what you want me. You know, people with this record
- 13:41Speaker 1: are going to get something from you know, fantastic and
- 13:44Speaker 1: I urge you to go check it out and pick
- 13:46Speaker 1: it up. But when we come down Under and release
- 13:48Speaker 1: records win we're specifically down Under. It's been a really
- 13:51Speaker 1: good luck charm for us. We chart very high in
- 13:54Speaker 1: Australia as well as as the United States. So this
- 13:58Speaker 1: is another reason we're dropping the could when we come
- 14:00Speaker 1: down instead of waiting to come back and when we
- 14:03Speaker 1: do the United States and August. So you guys are
- 14:05Speaker 1: our good luck charm. Get out there and pick it
- 14:08Speaker 1: up before you go.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Just one last question, but can you remember the first
- 14:13Speaker 3: time you ever heard one of your songs played on
- 14:15Speaker 3: the radio and where were you and what song was it?
- 14:20Speaker 1: Oh?
- 14:20Speaker 2: I was, well, it wasn't the first time I remember
- 14:24Speaker 2: was it was on Radio one, which is like the main,
- 14:27Speaker 2: the main, you know, like the biggest radio station in England.
- 14:31Speaker 2: And it was when we charted with Sony and I
- 14:35Speaker 2: was actually in a mini dealership at the time picking
- 14:37Speaker 2: the car up and it came of a radio and ironically,
- 14:41Speaker 2: the girl behind was very attractive and she stood up
- 14:45Speaker 2: and went, what the fuck is this? I heard her
- 14:48Speaker 2: say it, and yeah, my chances of you know, actually
- 14:52Speaker 2: reveling in the fact that I got it got on
- 14:53Speaker 2: the radio, and the national radio the one answer I had,
- 14:57Speaker 2: you know, and yeah, I had to keep crying. I
- 15:01Speaker 2: was beay, we actually that's me.
- 15:04Speaker 1: The first time I ever heard my stuff on the radio.
- 15:06Speaker 1: It was actually a Cold Chamber song obviously my first band,
- 15:09Speaker 1: and it was a huge radio station in Los Angeles
- 15:11Speaker 1: called k NAC. They controlled the airwaves at the time,
- 15:15Speaker 1: way before serious radio, right with terrestrial radio, and we
- 15:18Speaker 1: were all sitting around and probably having beers at the
- 15:21Speaker 1: house or what have you, and it came on and
- 15:23Speaker 1: we all stood up and you know, you're very proud
- 15:26Speaker 1: of that kind of a moment, really
