- 0:06Speaker 1: We all strive for something money, power, traveling the world,
- 0:11Speaker 1: or relationships. We all have something that we're striving for.
- 0:16Speaker 1: So when we achieve that thing that we've been chasing
- 0:18Speaker 1: for so long, especially when we do it on our
- 0:20Speaker 1: own accord, it can feel so satisfying. The Only problem
- 0:26Speaker 1: is it's often the journey that satisfies us rather than
- 0:30Speaker 1: the destination itself. So what if you get it all?
- 0:35Speaker 1: But what if for some reason, when you do get
- 0:37Speaker 1: it all, you're not happy. Could a person like that
- 0:43Speaker 1: who gets everything they ever wanted and still not be happy,
- 0:47Speaker 1: ever be satisfied? Well, today we talk about a Canadian
- 0:53Speaker 1: case where someone had it all, but they still weren't satisfied,
- 0:58Speaker 1: and they threw it all a way in murderous fashion.
- 1:03Speaker 2: My name's Ben and I'm Nicole, and you're listening to
- 1:07Speaker 2: Wicket and Grim, a true crime podcast.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Warning.
- 1:12Speaker 1: The following podcast material intend more mature audience listener discretion.
- 1:21Speaker 3: I need this so satisfied, I really need this.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I've already opened mine. I opened mind in the pre show.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Oh God, that was good. People in the pre show
- 1:54Speaker 1: know that I need this. You're talking about it a bit. Yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 1: Nicole made me wait to open my eye. I'm here.
- 2:00Speaker 1: She got to open hers in the pre show, which
- 2:02Speaker 1: is malarchy.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Well, I just beat you to the punch. You did
- 2:05Speaker 2: got to be quicker sometimes sometimes it's all very often
- 2:08Speaker 2: with me, very rarely and quicker one.
- 2:12Speaker 1: That's true. So usually I'm on the ball.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I'm taking this one.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Well, you earned it. Today, I want to just dive
- 2:19Speaker 1: right into thanking our patreons. We got some heavy topics
- 2:23Speaker 1: to talk about before the show, so I wanted to
- 2:25Speaker 1: start with patrons. If that's good with you, Yeah, okay,
- 2:29Speaker 1: So we have a few patrons thank today for signing up.
- 2:32Speaker 1: We have Jacob Kathy, Amanda Gross, and Skyler Burr. They
- 2:37Speaker 1: all signed up over on Patreon this week. Yes, they
- 2:39Speaker 1: got to hear the pre show. They know what we're
- 2:42Speaker 1: talking about.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Some behind the scenes yes, and they.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Also got a little bit of a heads up on
- 2:49Speaker 1: what we're about to talk about here too, because we
- 2:52Speaker 1: put a little post in there. Some very heavy news
- 2:58Speaker 1: a very close local case to us. Twelve years ago,
- 3:02Speaker 1: Madison Scott. She went missing from a lake just outside
- 3:06Speaker 1: of Vanderhof called Hog's Back.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Lake, and Vanderhoof is about like forty five minutes an
- 3:12Speaker 2: hour away from Prince George. Yeah, very close.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yeah, so lots of times, you know, people go from
- 3:16Speaker 1: vander Hoof to Prince George, Prince George Vanderhof. It's just
- 3:19Speaker 1: cities beside each other. Right. So Madison's remains have been found.
- 3:25Speaker 1: She was identified today. She's no longer missing. Police are
- 3:31Speaker 1: pursuing an investigation. It is ongoing. They do not have
- 3:34Speaker 1: anyone in custody currently, but Madison has been found. It's
- 3:39Speaker 1: good news, but it's I mean, it's terrible news.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Oh man, it's just I imagine it's just ripped the family's
- 3:45Speaker 2: heart just right back open.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yes, So our thoughts are with the Scott family. We're
- 3:53Speaker 1: glad that Madison can now be laid.
- 3:55Speaker 2: To rest, and hopefully the family can now kind of
- 3:59Speaker 2: cane you on their journey of healing, right, yeah, and.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Get that closure they need, and hopefully whoever is responsible
- 4:06Speaker 1: can be found.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Yeah that man. Okay, the fact that the remains have
- 4:10Speaker 2: been found, I was like, oh my gosh, like I'm
- 4:13Speaker 2: sure that they have like someone in custody like that.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I mean, her remains were found on somebody's like property, yes,
- 4:21Speaker 2: but it doesn't appear that they do. So I'm just
- 4:25Speaker 2: really hoping that someone is you know, pays for this.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Well I'm assuming here, don't get me wrong, I'm assuming
- 4:34Speaker 1: they they would have found this, like you said, on
- 4:36Speaker 1: someone's property. That's where it is. So they have a story,
- 4:39Speaker 1: they are following leads, they are chasing. They must have
- 4:43Speaker 1: names or individuals involved. Doesn't say the articles only said
- 4:48Speaker 1: they don't have someone in custody. Doesn't mean they don't
- 4:50Speaker 1: have suspects or people they're chasing.
- 4:53Speaker 2: They have to have suspects, Yeah, for sure, because.
- 4:56Speaker 1: For example, and I don't I'm not saying this is
- 4:58Speaker 1: the case, but what if the property had been sold
- 5:01Speaker 1: in the meantime and its new owners they might now
- 5:04Speaker 1: know who the previous owners were. They just need to
- 5:06Speaker 1: track them down. That could be the only case. So
- 5:09Speaker 1: maybe in a week time they're caught up with them
- 5:11Speaker 1: or who knows, you know. But it's it's good news,
- 5:15Speaker 1: but it's very devastating news both At the same time,
- 5:18Speaker 1: we've had people request Madison Scott for a podcast before.
- 5:22Speaker 1: It's a bit too close to home for us. We're
- 5:24Speaker 1: not going to be covering her story. However, we will
- 5:27Speaker 1: link some stuff down below so you can check out
- 5:30Speaker 1: her story if you're interested.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah, So it is a very interesting story, and it
- 5:35Speaker 2: is one that it kind of like it shook her
- 5:37Speaker 2: household a little bit. I think it's probably shook this
- 5:40Speaker 2: whole northern community because I mean we all had hope that,
- 5:44Speaker 2: you know, the outcome would be better. But then it
- 5:48Speaker 2: was also kind of like, oh, like she probably never
- 5:50Speaker 2: will get found kind of thing, right, and she's been found,
- 5:53Speaker 2: and it's almost just like mind blowing yeap. And literally
- 5:56Speaker 2: yesterday was the twelve Every year they kind of do
- 6:01Speaker 2: what would you want to call it memorial type thing.
- 6:04Speaker 2: It's kind of getting awareness and everything of the story,
- 6:08Speaker 2: and so they just had done this twelve year anniversary market.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Just yesterday, so it's like wow.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, we'll leave those links down below. We
- 6:20Speaker 1: do recommend you check out her story, but we are
- 6:22Speaker 1: going to talk about some other things. We do have
- 6:25Speaker 1: some more news that we're going to talk about here
- 6:27Speaker 1: coming up in just a few days. July first, June first,
- 6:31Speaker 1: June first, sorry, not July first, that's a whole month away.
- 6:35Speaker 1: June first, there we go. June first. We have another
- 6:38Speaker 1: podcast we are launching. It's called Fearful. So check out
- 6:44Speaker 1: some links below for our socials give it a search.
- 6:46Speaker 1: When June first rules around, we'll make sure that we
- 6:49Speaker 1: link it and give everyone the necessary tools to find
- 6:53Speaker 1: it and listen. And if you know Jacko Bunny Chance
- 6:56Speaker 1: from our Halloween specials, it's his podcast. Wow, so he
- 7:01Speaker 1: gets his very own show. So yeah, forward to that.
- 7:05Speaker 2: It's so exciting. Yeah, the day has come, it's near yeap,
- 7:10Speaker 2: very cool.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Okay, you want to get on with us, you want
- 7:13Speaker 1: to get this show rolling, Let's do it. Okay. Like
- 7:16Speaker 1: I was saying in the pre show, I've got like
- 7:18Speaker 1: a lot of like anxiety tightness in my chest because
- 7:20Speaker 1: of like the whole Madison thing today and stuff. It's
- 7:23Speaker 1: just it's kind of weighing on me. So I need to.
- 7:27Speaker 2: It's a somber day.
- 7:28Speaker 1: It is very very much to a somber day. There is.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'm kind of happy in a sense that she has
- 7:34Speaker 1: been found, Like that's that silver lining she could be
- 7:37Speaker 1: laid to rest, you know, there's but it's tragedy at
- 7:41Speaker 1: the same time, so totally.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean this this story, like just to
- 7:45Speaker 2: say one more thing, the story has been so close
- 7:48Speaker 2: to home, like even all over Prince George, like they're
- 7:51Speaker 2: still to in this day twelve years later, there's posters
- 7:54Speaker 2: and there's signage and and like it has been a
- 7:58Speaker 2: case that they have kind of really kept, especially locally,
- 8:01Speaker 2: in the forefront of people's minds.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Well, if you drive down the mailbox on a mailbox
- 8:06Speaker 1: has a fine Maddie flyer on it right now. Yeah,
- 8:10Speaker 1: it's been there for I mean it gets like a
- 8:12Speaker 1: new one gets posted every year. Once it's like sun
- 8:16Speaker 1: bleached and weathered, another one gets posted.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so that won't be being posted anymore.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Well no, but like I said, she has been found.
- 8:25Speaker 1: That is good.
- 8:26Speaker 2: It is good. Yeah.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Anyways, let's move on from that. Let's talk about today's story.
- 8:30Speaker 1: So today's story is a Canadian story, and this story
- 8:33Speaker 1: begins with a man by the name of Peter Dempter. Now.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Peter was born in August nineteenth, nineteen thirty three. He
- 8:42Speaker 1: was born in Budapest, Hungary. Okay, so his family was
- 8:47Speaker 1: rather wealthy and well off. So Peter's future right out
- 8:51Speaker 1: of the gate was pretty bright. As soon as he
- 8:53Speaker 1: was born. He's pretty assured to have a good future.
- 8:55Speaker 1: He kind of had that privileged family atmosphere he was
- 8:58Speaker 1: born into. However, World War II would soon follow and
- 9:05Speaker 1: it would take place, of course, from September one, nineteen
- 9:08Speaker 1: thirty nine, officially to September Tewod nineteen forty five, and
- 9:12Speaker 1: it raged on in these troubled times with the of
- 9:16Speaker 1: course Communist government and everything. It was not looking good
- 9:20Speaker 1: for much of the world, let alone the area where
- 9:22Speaker 1: Peter was specifically living. So Peter's family would eventually lose
- 9:28Speaker 1: their wealth and their status because of this, they became
- 9:32Speaker 1: impoverished and following the war. In nineteen fifty six, twenty
- 9:38Speaker 1: three year old Peter would make his way over to
- 9:40Speaker 1: Canada with approximately two hundred thousand other refugees who were
- 9:44Speaker 1: fleeing their country during a revolution of the Soviet Union. So,
- 9:51Speaker 1: like most others who came over, Peter didn't have much
- 9:54Speaker 1: money or any possessions. It was just himself and whatever
- 9:58Speaker 1: he managed to carry along with him in his hage,
- 10:01Speaker 1: which included a grand total of eight dollars.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Oh wow, Okay, so.
- 10:07Speaker 1: That's all he had with him when he arrived to Toronto.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Which definitely would have been a little bit more back then.
- 10:13Speaker 2: But still, oh yes, that's kind of makes you feel
- 10:16Speaker 2: a bit uneasy, ain't Oh it does, yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Just to put it in perspective, I'm not looking up
- 10:21Speaker 1: the actual conversion rates from then to now or anything,
- 10:24Speaker 1: but just say it's ten times. Okay, So if he
- 10:27Speaker 1: had eight dollars, it's eighty dollars today. That's not a
- 10:31Speaker 1: whole lot.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I know, that's scary.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Holy So, this though, wasn't going to stop Peter.
- 10:39Speaker 1: He had a drive in him. Unlike most people, he
- 10:42Speaker 1: was going to do something, make a name for himself.
- 10:45Speaker 1: He was determined to restore that wealth and status to
- 10:47Speaker 1: his family's name, the same name, the same status that
- 10:52Speaker 1: had been been at years before. So he would soon
- 10:56Speaker 1: start finding work, doing any job that was available. He
- 11:00Speaker 1: saved every single penny that he was able to. He
- 11:03Speaker 1: kept pushing forward, kept going towards his goal. Soon he
- 11:08Speaker 1: got his real estate license and he began selling homes
- 11:10Speaker 1: to other Hungarian immigrants that were coming into Canada. Okay,
- 11:14Speaker 1: and this was the launching point for Peter's future career.
- 11:18Speaker 2: That seems smart, actually.
- 11:20Speaker 1: It is making sure that he's actually servicing a niche
- 11:22Speaker 1: community that's in need, right, absolutely, And that's what entrepreneurship is, right,
- 11:28Speaker 1: It's finding something that's in demand and it's supplying that demand.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Yeah, so that I feel like that's really thinking outside
- 11:36Speaker 2: the box.
- 11:36Speaker 1: They're like, well done, right, And it's also like, okay,
- 11:39Speaker 1: other immigrants from the same country, it's like they're probably
- 11:43Speaker 1: going to go to him because he experienced the same thing.
- 11:45Speaker 1: He is just like them.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Yeah, right, so it's like, oh, there's already that trust there.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Right, you're from the same country, you experienced the Soviet Union,
- 11:53Speaker 1: you came over, you're an immigrant, You're just like us.
- 11:55Speaker 1: You had how much in your pocket when you arrived?
- 11:57Speaker 1: You managed to build yourself up. You have this business,
- 11:59Speaker 1: you're helping others find houses. Helped me too. You're the
- 12:02Speaker 1: guy for us, You're who we're looking for.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Yeah. He's literally like showing that the dream can happen
- 12:09Speaker 2: kind of thing.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Yeah, And I understand it's a cliche and it's we're
- 12:15Speaker 1: talking Canada here, but it is quote the American dream, right.
- 12:19Speaker 1: That American dream does still kind of apply universally because
- 12:23Speaker 1: it's kind of a loose term. It's, you know, finding
- 12:26Speaker 1: a piece of property, making a family, having a good job,
- 12:30Speaker 1: being self sustaining. That's the American dream. It can apply
- 12:35Speaker 1: to many different cultures and lifestyles, but it's still that
- 12:38Speaker 1: self sustaining family and having you know, a good life. Absolutely,
- 12:44Speaker 1: that's what he's supplying here, the American dream in Canada
- 12:50Speaker 1: as a refugee.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Wow. Okay, if that makes sense, it makes sense. It
- 12:57Speaker 2: makes sense.
- 12:59Speaker 1: So in nineteen sixty two, Peter registered the business name
- 13:04Speaker 1: Eden Gardens Limited and began construction on an apartment building
- 13:09Speaker 1: in Toronto.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Oh wow, yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Good for him, right, that's impressive exactly.
- 13:14Speaker 1: So now he's building up these apartments, he's developing, he's developing,
- 13:19Speaker 1: and guess what he's probably going to be selling these
- 13:22Speaker 1: units to.
- 13:24Speaker 2: No shit, right, wow.
- 13:26Speaker 1: So not only is he getting the actual real estate
- 13:30Speaker 1: portion of it, but he's also the developer portion. He's
- 13:32Speaker 1: kind of like double.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Dipping in the aspect, no kidding.
- 13:36Speaker 1: So because of this, Peter would soon become very successful.
- 13:42Speaker 1: He become a self made multi millionaire successful in fact.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Wow.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Yeah. He brought his family's name back to that lavish
- 13:51Speaker 1: status that it once used to be. He had pride
- 13:54Speaker 1: in his name, he had status, and he had a
- 13:57Speaker 1: love for money. In nineteen sixty five, Peter, now having
- 14:03Speaker 1: plenty of money, plenty of disposable income at his fingertips,
- 14:08Speaker 1: would travel back to his homeland in Vienna. It would
- 14:12Speaker 1: be here that he met a twenty year old beautiful
- 14:15Speaker 1: woman by the name of Marina Hunt. Now, Marina was
- 14:19Speaker 1: a model, and Peter was obsessed with her, and he
- 14:24Speaker 1: professed his love for her the second time that they met.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Oh really, hey, he knew, he knew well head over
- 14:31Speaker 2: heels for her.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Yeah, literally, yeah, exactly, He's just like, holy shit, like
- 14:36Speaker 1: I'm picturing like the mask, jaw drop, tongue, rolls out
- 14:39Speaker 1: in the table, eyes, bug out of the head sort
- 14:41Speaker 1: of thing, the whole cartoony thing.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Now, he, like you say, fell head over heels. However,
- 14:48Speaker 1: Marina didn't share the same feelings and rejected.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Him really well. And also, I'm thinking there's like an
- 14:55Speaker 2: an age gap there, right there is.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I think I don't know if it's very much. He's
- 15:01Speaker 1: probably around like twenty five or something like that by
- 15:04Speaker 1: this time, maybe.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Maybe thirty, Okay, but still, yeah.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I didn't really keep track of his age throughout this
- 15:09Speaker 1: whole story. So yeah, she didn't share the same feelings though,
- 15:14Speaker 1: and reportedly this sent Peter into a nervous breakdown that
- 15:19Speaker 1: sent him to the hospital for three days. Really apparently
- 15:26Speaker 1: I couldn't find records of this, but I did find
- 15:28Speaker 1: a few accounts of people talking.
- 15:29Speaker 2: About this, like, yeah, that's interesting. That's really taken it.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Hard, right, like take it on the chin, man, Come on.
- 15:38Speaker 2: You can't handle rejection.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Apparently not. So he was in the hospital for three
- 15:44Speaker 1: days and then returned to Canada, I guess, kind of
- 15:48Speaker 1: with his tail between his legs by the sound of it. However,
- 15:51Speaker 1: he was persistent and he started writing Marina letters, continuing
- 15:57Speaker 1: to profess his love and promised her a life of
- 16:01Speaker 1: money and wealth, lavish lifestyle, being looked after, cared for.
- 16:06Speaker 1: He sent her gifts, you name it. The letters were
- 16:10Speaker 1: beginning to be sent back and forth. Marina kind of
- 16:13Speaker 1: was stringing him along that it would be the next.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Liked the damn gifts, well.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Exactly, she kind of liked the idea of the money,
- 16:20Speaker 1: the gifts. She wasn't really into him by the sounds
- 16:23Speaker 1: of it. However, there was a little bit of a
- 16:26Speaker 1: caveat because next year Peter would come back to be
- 16:30Speaker 1: to Vienna and that's when he found out that Marina
- 16:34Speaker 1: actually had a boyfriend this whole time.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Oh wow, yes, but still just like accepting these gifts
- 16:41Speaker 2: and writing and shit.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Correct, So, in my assumption, she probably liked this guy,
- 16:48Speaker 1: but liked Peter's money, and I was like, if it
- 16:50Speaker 1: doesn't work out with this guy, then I can just
- 16:52Speaker 1: go to Peter.
- 16:53Speaker 2: And you know that's dirty.
- 16:55Speaker 1: So that's kind of the game I think she was
- 16:57Speaker 1: playing here. Peter, of course, when he found out, he
- 17:02Speaker 1: was furious.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Did he end up back in the hospital for a
- 17:06Speaker 2: few days He didn't? Oh shit, okay.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Yeah, he would actually assault her at her pole.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Oh wow, yeah, her. I thought maybe it was going
- 17:16Speaker 2: to be the boyfriend.
- 17:17Speaker 1: No. Now, I couldn't find if the attack was reported
- 17:20Speaker 1: or not, so I'm not saying that she went to
- 17:22Speaker 1: the hospital but she was attacked. But either way, Peter
- 17:25Speaker 1: would walk away without any repercussions, and I couldn't find
- 17:28Speaker 1: the extent of or the how bad the attack quote
- 17:33Speaker 1: unquote really was. Okay, So either way, though, it would
- 17:38Speaker 1: be two weeks later, while Peter was still in Vienna
- 17:41Speaker 1: that he would meet another woman.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, so.
- 17:45Speaker 1: He's kind of leaving Marina behind and with her he
- 17:48Speaker 1: sees this other woman, another model by the name of
- 17:51Speaker 1: Christina Ferrari, who is twenty seven years old.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Okay, so he has a type.
- 17:56Speaker 1: He has a type.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Models, models, models.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Now The two instantly hit it off, Peter over Christine's
- 18:04Speaker 1: beauty and Christine over Peter's money. The day after they met,
- 18:10Speaker 1: Peter whisked her away on their first date, and she
- 18:13Speaker 1: would soon move to Toronto with Peter.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Okay, so this was much easier.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Much easier to swoon her and gain her, to be like, hey,
- 18:22Speaker 1: come to me, I've got I've got money, I've got things.
- 18:25Speaker 1: You like money, things that's got money and things.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Have you? Have you seen a photo of Peter?
- 18:31Speaker 1: Yes?
- 18:31Speaker 2: Is he a looker or no? Not at all?
- 18:34Speaker 1: He wasn't bad looking by any means. No, No, okay, No,
- 18:37Speaker 1: I wouldn't say he's like super hot, but I mean
- 18:40Speaker 1: it's like he's not bad looking.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, because for some reason, I'm picturing someone that's
- 18:44Speaker 2: like really not attractive at all.
- 18:47Speaker 1: No, he's I don't know, he's just kind of.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Like like an average average joe.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Yeah, six and a half, maybe a seven out of
- 18:54Speaker 1: ten something like that.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Oh that's bad. That's above average.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it's above average, but he's not like he's not
- 18:59Speaker 1: like a nine or ten. He's not like smoking hot,
- 19:02Speaker 1: you know.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Okay, Oh, I have to put a photo up here
- 19:05Speaker 2: and see what other people think. I'm gonna have to
- 19:07Speaker 2: look at what what he looks like and to be fair,
- 19:10Speaker 2: to be fair, be fair, my.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Judging skills might be off because i mean this is
- 19:16Speaker 1: in the sixties, right, so it's like, eh, people looked
- 19:19Speaker 1: a little different back then too, So.
- 19:21Speaker 2: That's very true.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Standards are different and you know, so.
- 19:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Regardless though, the two were happy, and they would soon
- 19:30Speaker 1: become married on November fourteenth in nineteen sixty seven. Okay,
- 19:34Speaker 1: and they would also welcome their baby daughter named Andrew,
- 19:37Speaker 1: into the world in nineteen seventy.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Oh wow, Yeah, they have a baby.
- 19:43Speaker 1: They had a baby. Their life seemed perfect. They I mean,
- 19:46Speaker 1: they're a good looking couple. She was a model, He
- 19:49Speaker 1: was a six and a half or seven.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Yeah, who was a like multi millionaire?
- 19:53Speaker 1: Yeah, lots of money. Yeah. They had you know, new
- 19:57Speaker 1: new child, next family.
- 19:59Speaker 2: What could go wrong?
- 20:00Speaker 4: Right?
- 20:00Speaker 1: What could go wrong? On the surface of all look perfect,
- 20:04Speaker 1: but behind closed doors things aren't always as they seemed,
- 20:09Speaker 1: so the once happy couple were quickly growing apart. Now. Allegedly,
- 20:14Speaker 1: Peter was very controlling of Christine and wanted to know
- 20:18Speaker 1: where she was or who she was with at all times,
- 20:21Speaker 1: which is generally not the best personality trait to have.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Mm hm.
- 20:26Speaker 1: He would also begin to suspect that their daughter, Andrea,
- 20:29Speaker 1: was not actually his child.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Oh really.
- 20:35Speaker 1: He suspected this though, because he couldn't see any resemblance
- 20:38Speaker 1: between him and the kid.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Oh okay, well that is absolutely not like always the case.
- 20:43Speaker 1: No, definitely not. You shouldn't be judging if it's your
- 20:47Speaker 1: kid because it's like, oh, it doesn't quite look like me.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not really.
- 20:52Speaker 1: A jumping point for genetics, you know.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I mean, okay, So I'm like a photographer, so I
- 20:57Speaker 2: take a lot of photos of like kids and parents,
- 20:59Speaker 2: and sometimes it is unbelievable how striking the resemblances. It's
- 21:05Speaker 2: like it's a mini one of them.
- 21:08Speaker 1: You showed me one today actually, like.
- 21:10Speaker 2: It's like holy shit, like you have nothing to worry about,
- 21:13Speaker 2: like that is your child. But then there's so many
- 21:16Speaker 2: times when it's like, oh, like, oh it's a mix
- 21:19Speaker 2: of you guys, or I really don't know which one
- 21:22Speaker 2: it looks more like, you know, and did you adopt?
- 21:26Speaker 2: So that is not a way to judge.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Here, It's definitely not. But that's kind of what he
- 21:32Speaker 1: was going on. So he accused Christine, of course, of adultery,
- 21:37Speaker 1: and he also accused many of the men he knew
- 21:40Speaker 1: of being the father. Now, there are allegations that Christine
- 21:45Speaker 1: was in fact not being faithful, so it's hard to
- 21:48Speaker 1: tell exactly where the relationship downward spiral really did begin.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Okay, but we don't know for sure if she was unfaithful.
- 21:59Speaker 4: No, okay.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Either way, though, I mean, Peter's actions had Christine in
- 22:04Speaker 1: less than an amused situation. Let's put that way. So
- 22:08Speaker 1: Christine was in over her head with Peter in fact,
- 22:13Speaker 1: even before they did get married, even before they did
- 22:16Speaker 1: have this kid. She would eventually show up at a
- 22:19Speaker 1: friend's house with a split lip.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Oh.
- 22:24Speaker 1: How the injury came about was never actually reported as
- 22:28Speaker 1: far as I could find, But she did say to
- 22:30Speaker 1: her friend in that visit that she didn't want to
- 22:33Speaker 1: be with Peter anymore.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Oh no, okay, I don't like that at all.
- 22:37Speaker 1: No, not cool. I mean, I'm pretty sure we can
- 22:40Speaker 1: all assume really where that's going. Yeah, So, in a
- 22:44Speaker 1: desperate attempt to help her friend, she actually had booked
- 22:48Speaker 1: a plane ticket right then and there for her to
- 22:51Speaker 1: head to back to Vienna and leave the life with
- 22:53Speaker 1: Peter behind. Okay, Christine held that ticket in her hand.
- 22:58Speaker 1: She wanted to leave, she can go back home live
- 23:02Speaker 1: the life she used to love, but for one reason
- 23:05Speaker 1: or another, she couldn't do it. She chose not to
- 23:08Speaker 1: get on that plane, but instead to stay with Peter
- 23:10Speaker 1: and the whole toxicity of their soon marriage.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Well, I mean, gosh, the strength that that would take,
- 23:17Speaker 2: especially like when kids are involved, right, Like.
- 23:19Speaker 4: That's hard.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Well, this was prior to having the kid.
- 23:22Speaker 2: This was probably this was prior to them having the kid.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Oh, it was even before the marriage. This was even
- 23:27Speaker 1: before they had a kid.
- 23:28Speaker 2: But still like but still no, yeah, it'll still be hard. Yeah.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Yeah, not that it's not difficult even in any relationship situation. Yeah,
- 23:36Speaker 1: but yeah, having the kid would make it much more complicated.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Well, yes, like the lip thing is an issue, but
- 23:42Speaker 2: then also like how controlling he is too? Like that,
- 23:46Speaker 2: I mean, if that's not dealt with, it's not going
- 23:48Speaker 2: to get better.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Generally, it only gets worse.
- 23:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, so, whether it was prior to the
- 23:53Speaker 1: marriage or now, like, the turmoil left a huge stain
- 23:57Speaker 1: on the relationship, and because of this, Peter found himself
- 24:01Speaker 1: once again reaching out to his previous love Marina.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Seriously, yes, okay, I didn't see that freaking comming.
- 24:10Speaker 1: He began writing letters once again.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Wow.
- 24:13Speaker 1: He sent her flowers, he sent her gifts, he sent
- 24:15Speaker 1: her money. And then in June of nineteen seventy three,
- 24:19Speaker 1: he found out that Marina was getting married.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Okay, well, yeah, like what is he freaking things happening here?
- 24:27Speaker 2: He's not interested?
- 24:29Speaker 1: Yeah? Well, when he heard about that, he bought a
- 24:32Speaker 1: plane ticket and sent it to her. The plane ticket
- 24:36Speaker 1: was for Quebec. He sent her a plane ticket to Quebec,
- 24:40Speaker 1: said come meet me. We're going to have a weekend together.
- 24:44Speaker 1: So she did.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Wow.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Yeah, this shit's messy, isn't it? Like real messy?
- 24:50Speaker 1: Yeah, he's married. He's married, she's getting married, and they're
- 24:53Speaker 1: now meeting up for a weekend in Quebec.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Okay, right, I wonder if they're gonna have some boutine?
- 24:59Speaker 1: And so what is the other thing I did not
- 25:02Speaker 1: I did not think you were gonna say poutine?
- 25:05Speaker 2: Oh else? Okay, the other thing I was gonna say
- 25:11Speaker 2: is beavertail. It doesn't get any better than Okay, we
- 25:18Speaker 2: gotta move on.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Holy fuck, you're killing me.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Wow.
- 25:25Speaker 2: And the problem is none of that was even planned.
- 25:28Speaker 2: That's just me being an eight.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Oh my god, I don't think I've ever laughed this
- 25:35Speaker 1: fucking hard on this podcast.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Before you're good, you need to take a minute.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I've got it. I've got this. Okay. So they met
- 25:48Speaker 1: up in Quebec for some potential poutine and beaver tail.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Those are legit food items.
- 25:56Speaker 1: They are they are legit Canadian food items. And during
- 26:01Speaker 1: this time the two the two would connect over what
- 26:04Speaker 1: I presumed to be a very romantic weekend of poutine
- 26:08Speaker 1: and beavertail.
- 26:10Speaker 2: God, you got to move on from that.
- 26:12Speaker 1: And they decided that they actually wanted to spend their
- 26:16Speaker 1: life together. Oh there was, of course, just one problem.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Now Marina could easily cancel her wedding. She wasn't married yet,
- 26:26Speaker 1: but Peter was already married.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Did he have a child, Yes, and he had a
- 26:33Speaker 2: child to at this point.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Was he's married, he has his kidd God, the only
- 26:38Speaker 1: time I backed up was the one splitlip thing. We're
- 26:41Speaker 1: back completely back on track here. So he would need
- 26:45Speaker 1: a divorce, and a divorce would mean that he would
- 26:48Speaker 1: potentially lose half of everything his money, his company, his possessions,
- 26:55Speaker 1: his assets, everything. Yep, So he had a bit of
- 26:59Speaker 1: a pro that he needed to solve. So first off,
- 27:04Speaker 1: Marina would head back home to Vienna with a ticket
- 27:07Speaker 1: already booked to come back to Canada a month later
- 27:12Speaker 1: on July twenty sixth.
- 27:15Speaker 2: So they had a plan. I'm assuming here.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Kind of seems like there's a plan.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Mm hmm. It's so interesting that she just decided that
- 27:24Speaker 2: she liked him now too, what the heck is that about?
- 27:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean money talks, right, Maybe he had enough money.
- 27:34Speaker 2: I guess, but I mean he was was the right word,
- 27:39Speaker 2: lavishing her in gifts and stuff prior to and she
- 27:41Speaker 2: didn't budge. So yeah, it's just interesting.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Yeah, who knows. So while Marina went back to Vienna,
- 27:51Speaker 1: Peter and Christine would spend the upcoming July a weekend
- 27:56Speaker 1: in the July, more specifically hosting some friends and some
- 27:59Speaker 1: family at their home in Mississauga, which is just outside
- 28:02Speaker 1: of Toronto. So on July eighteenth, nineteen seventy three, Peter
- 28:07Speaker 1: took their guests into Toronto by car, and he included
- 28:11Speaker 1: making sure that their dog was involved. So he took
- 28:16Speaker 1: all their guests and the dog into the car to
- 28:18Speaker 1: go shopping. Now, Christine stayed at home with their daughter
- 28:22Speaker 1: Andrea as they drove off, so they left her alone
- 28:26Speaker 1: at the house to have a relaxing day by the
- 28:28Speaker 1: pool side. Now they would return home for dinner and
- 28:32Speaker 1: then leave again to finish their shopping. So during the trip,
- 28:35Speaker 1: Peter picked out a nice locket necklace for Christine to
- 28:38Speaker 1: give her to give her for her birthday, which was
- 28:41Speaker 1: about a week later. And finally they would return home
- 28:44Speaker 1: at nine to forty five pm and it would be
- 28:48Speaker 1: a long date they'd return home from. So after the
- 28:51Speaker 1: long day, Peter pulled up into the driveway, opened the
- 28:54Speaker 1: garage door to park their car inside, and it was
- 28:57Speaker 1: there that he found Christine laying on the cold, meant
- 29:00Speaker 1: floor of the garage in a pool of her own blood.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Shit. Okay, but for some reason, I feel like this
- 29:07Speaker 2: is planned. I think because he brought the dog, but
- 29:08Speaker 2: then he didn't bring the daughter. So I'm kind of
- 29:11Speaker 2: wondering what the hell's going on there.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Well, the daughter, by this point, I believe, is three. Okay,
- 29:17Speaker 1: just as for context, m but yeah.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Like needs someone watching her.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Yeah, but he, like you say, did make sure to
- 29:25Speaker 1: bring the dog.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Okay, Well was the daughter? Okay? Okay, I'm just going
- 29:29Speaker 2: to keep listening. I'm listening. Well.
- 29:30Speaker 1: To start off with Christine, the back of her head
- 29:32Speaker 1: had a very large open wound that was seeping blood
- 29:36Speaker 1: onto the floor. Luckily enough, their daughter, Andrea was completely
- 29:41Speaker 1: unharmed inside the house.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Okay, thank goodness.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Peter immediately dialed nine one one and told police there
- 29:48Speaker 1: was an accident at his house and his wife seemed
- 29:50Speaker 1: to have committed suicide.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Committed suicide, yes, okay, I don't feel like that would
- 29:58Speaker 2: be a way to commit suicide. No wound on the
- 30:03Speaker 2: back of your head.
- 30:04Speaker 4: I agree, Okay.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I'm glad we're on the same page there. I just
- 30:09Speaker 1: like what you just seemed very like argumentative over that,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and I was like, I was.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Gonna let you in.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Okay, No, I agree, I agree.
- 30:17Speaker 2: And she was not alive. To clarify, no, okay, Dan.
- 30:22Speaker 1: So when the authorities arrived at the scene, they rushed
- 30:25Speaker 1: into the garage to examine Christine, and of course she
- 30:29Speaker 1: was not alive. However, something didn't seem right. This wasn't
- 30:36Speaker 1: a suicide, and it wasn't an accident. It was obvious
- 30:40Speaker 1: that Christine had been struck on the back of the
- 30:43Speaker 1: head with something. This was a murder scene. Peter wouldn't
- 30:49Speaker 1: have it. Though he strongly disagreed with that decision, he
- 30:53Speaker 1: insisted that if it was not suicide, then it was
- 30:55Speaker 1: definitely an accident. Peter in fact stood over top of
- 31:00Speaker 1: Christine's lifeless body and demonstrated how he believed she must
- 31:03Speaker 1: have been climbing on something and reaching up for something else.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Then he kind of mimicked her slipping and falling into
- 31:10Speaker 1: the position his now deceased wife laid on the floor.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Wow.
- 31:17Speaker 2: This And should he not be like, maybe a little
- 31:19Speaker 2: bit devastated that his wife is laying dead on the.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Ground there in the garage, you would think, However, instead
- 31:27Speaker 1: he's standing over top of her and mimicking how he
- 31:29Speaker 1: believes she would have got into this situation.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Wow, that is a really disturbing visual.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree for sure.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Wow Okay.
- 31:40Speaker 1: And of course though he wasn't convincing anyone, In fact,
- 31:44Speaker 1: they were like they were able to figure out Christine
- 31:47Speaker 1: would have been struck on the back of the head
- 31:50Speaker 1: a total of seven times. Wow, with a blunt object.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Holy hack.
- 31:55Speaker 1: So seven times with the blunt object is not an accident?
- 31:59Speaker 2: No, But I'm also just like I'm putting I'm literally
- 32:03Speaker 2: in the garage right now. Like watching him reenact this,
- 32:07Speaker 2: I would just be mortified, I think, yeah, mortified.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I agree.
- 32:12Speaker 2: It would almost be like it was like you got
- 32:14Speaker 2: you can't watch, but you have to watch kind.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Of yes, And the entire time I'd be thinking, what
- 32:19Speaker 1: a fucking douche Canoe.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Yeah, Like should we get on a T shirt.
- 32:24Speaker 1: That says douche Canoe? Yeah, and a Dunce cap that
- 32:26Speaker 1: says douche Canoe, not Dunce, just says douche Canoe should
- 32:30Speaker 1: make a new fashion statement.
- 32:31Speaker 2: There you go.
- 32:33Speaker 1: They also actually had found defensive wounds on her hands,
- 32:36Speaker 1: showing that she indeed was attacked and she did try
- 32:40Speaker 1: and fight back.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Oh that's sad.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Yeah, So of course it's it's a normal thing to
- 32:46Speaker 1: suspect a house or a spouse at first in any
- 32:50Speaker 1: sort of case, right, you know, they're usually the first suspect,
- 32:55Speaker 1: But mixed with Peter's odd behavior, it put a lot
- 32:58Speaker 1: of red flash in his direction. His actions, though, weren't
- 33:03Speaker 1: the only thing that drew attention from the police. So
- 33:07Speaker 1: while they were at the scene investigating, Peter actually willingly
- 33:12Speaker 1: dive aled some information like, for example, their marital struggles,
- 33:17Speaker 1: their problems together. He started telling them about that, and
- 33:21Speaker 1: then on top of it all, he told them about
- 33:23Speaker 1: a one million dollar life insurance policy that he had
- 33:26Speaker 1: on his wife.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Wow, yes, which guy just don't hen Okay, he doesn't.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Get it, does he no, which he would soon try
- 33:36Speaker 1: and take out said life insurance policy, which is just
- 33:40Speaker 1: a little side fun fact for you there. So needless
- 33:43Speaker 1: to say, though, this was all very significant information for
- 33:47Speaker 1: the police, and they brought Peter into the station for questioning.
- 33:51Speaker 1: He would, however, be released as they didn't have anything
- 33:55Speaker 1: to really charge them with yet. So through their investigation
- 34:00Speaker 1: they found much more interesting evidence. For example, they had
- 34:05Speaker 1: discovered a couple weeks prior to Christine's death, she had
- 34:09Speaker 1: visited several lawyers. Really she did so Apparently she knew
- 34:16Speaker 1: about the love letters from Peter and Marina back and forth.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Really yep, okay, I didn't see that coming.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Yep. She found them, she read them. She knew Peter's intentions,
- 34:30Speaker 1: what he was planning on doing, so she wanted to
- 34:34Speaker 1: find if her custody rights over her children were strong
- 34:37Speaker 1: enough to have that custody for her in the situation
- 34:41Speaker 1: if she leaves a relationship, so she's visiting lawyers to
- 34:45Speaker 1: find out her rights prior to acting.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Huh, okay, so she's being like a little bit smart
- 34:51Speaker 2: then she is unlike Oh no, I'm not even gonna
- 34:55Speaker 2: say unlike Peter Peter.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I'll say all at that, Well, why do you think
- 35:01Speaker 1: Peter's not being smart?
- 35:03Speaker 2: Well, he's not. I just feel like he's not really
- 35:05Speaker 2: thinking clearly here, Like he's just he just thinks. Like
- 35:11Speaker 2: I don't know how to say this appropriately. I can't
- 35:15Speaker 2: say it, say it. I was just gonna say he's
- 35:17Speaker 2: just thinking with his dick.
- 35:20Speaker 1: He's a chauvinist.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Okay, I could have said it that way.
- 35:25Speaker 1: He definitely seems that way for sure.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:29Speaker 1: So it would be in August seventeenth, nineteen seventy three,
- 35:32Speaker 1: that police believed they had enough motive and evidence and
- 35:36Speaker 1: arrested Peter for murdering his wife.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Wow brutal.
- 35:42Speaker 1: So it would only be five days later later, however,
- 35:44Speaker 1: that he would be released on bail as he maintained
- 35:47Speaker 1: his innocence. Now, this obviously doesn't mean he's off the
- 35:50Speaker 1: hook though, he's still being charged, and it would be
- 35:53Speaker 1: about a year later that he would appear in court
- 35:55Speaker 1: with his team of highly paid lawyers.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Gross.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and he was confident and still maintained his innocence
- 36:03Speaker 1: in the process. He even had I mean his alibis.
- 36:07Speaker 1: He was out shopping with the family and friends, right,
- 36:10Speaker 1: she was at home alone, but he planned that. Are
- 36:14Speaker 1: you sure? How could it have been him? Right?
- 36:19Speaker 2: I mean, money can buy you a lot of.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Things, it can. But Devil's advocate here, he does have alibis.
- 36:27Speaker 1: He was out of the house. He did not kill
- 36:31Speaker 1: his wife.
- 36:32Speaker 2: No, he physically did not kill his wife.
- 36:35Speaker 1: No. So what do you think happened?
- 36:39Speaker 2: Well, I don't know. He had come up with some
- 36:42Speaker 2: sort of a plan. He had a month to get
- 36:45Speaker 2: rid of her, and I don't think he obviously wasn't
- 36:49Speaker 2: going to do the dirty work himself, so he hired somebody.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Okay, hit man, yeah, murder for hire.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Okay, he paid someone in money that they would murder
- 37:01Speaker 2: his wife for him.
- 37:02Speaker 4: Okay, gotcha, that's my thought.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Okay, just wondering where your head was at.
- 37:06Speaker 4: Okay.
- 37:07Speaker 1: So, as Peter came in with his highly paid team
- 37:11Speaker 1: of lawyers, the prosecution, though facing this dream team of lawyers,
- 37:16Speaker 1: also came very well prepared. So a man by the
- 37:22Speaker 1: name of Saba Siloghe was one of Peter's friends. He
- 37:28Speaker 1: was also immigrant, an immigrant into Canada. Okay, Peter's known
- 37:32Speaker 1: him for a long time. He was I guess if
- 37:36Speaker 1: you could say, the ace up their sleeve. He was
- 37:39Speaker 1: a surprise witness to the stand. He testified to having
- 37:44Speaker 1: conversations with Peter about plans to kill his wife on
- 37:48Speaker 1: multiple occasions. For example, some plans were tampering with her
- 37:54Speaker 1: car or electrocuting her in the pool. Holy shit, Now
- 38:00Speaker 1: this was only the tip of the iceberg. Though, just
- 38:02Speaker 1: saying oh, yeah, I had these conversations is one thing.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Where's the evidence right? Well, you see, after Christine's death,
- 38:09Speaker 1: Saba was actually working with the police and agreed to
- 38:12Speaker 1: wear a wire on visits to see Peter. The prosecution
- 38:18Speaker 1: had the evidence they needed. In one of the conversations,
- 38:22Speaker 1: police were able to record Peter saying how he is
- 38:25Speaker 1: confident they will stay ahead of the police, but he
- 38:28Speaker 1: is upset with the hitman for killing Christine in a
- 38:31Speaker 1: way that he couldn't play it off as an accident.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Wow.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Really, yes, recorded on tape played in the courtroom.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Gosh, that is so disturbing to me. Yep, I feel
- 38:47Speaker 2: like Okay, It's the main thing that's so disturbing is
- 38:50Speaker 2: it's like money is money, like whatever, Like are you
- 38:53Speaker 2: literally gonna like not like this. This is like the
- 38:57Speaker 2: mother of your kid, Like you can't just like divorce
- 39:00Speaker 2: her and like give her money and like go on
- 39:03Speaker 2: your merry way, Like you literally have to like murder her. Yeah,
- 39:07Speaker 2: that's what's really disturbing.
- 39:09Speaker 1: You want another disturbing piece that actually I didn't even
- 39:11Speaker 1: put in here because it's kind of like benign information,
- 39:14Speaker 1: but just to kind of like a to really show
- 39:16Speaker 1: what kind of person he is, I guess before the
- 39:20Speaker 1: trial actually occurred. So between Christine's death and the trial,
- 39:25Speaker 1: his new love Marina had moved to Canada.
- 39:30Speaker 2: And she's just waiting.
- 39:32Speaker 1: She Yeah, so she moved to Canada after the Christine's death.
- 39:35Speaker 1: She moved into the house where Christine had died and
- 39:38Speaker 1: was living with Peter in said house.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Well, okay, I don't even know how she could do
- 39:46Speaker 2: that because obviously this person's like a monster. Yeah, Like
- 39:50Speaker 2: because lots of times, like if you're say, for example,
- 39:52Speaker 2: like you're you're a cheater and you cheat on like
- 39:56Speaker 2: a significant other, the chances are much higher that you're
- 39:59Speaker 2: all going to do that with your next significant other
- 40:02Speaker 2: as well. Kind of like they say, a cheater is
- 40:04Speaker 2: a cheater, right yep? So like fuck, if I was,
- 40:07Speaker 2: I'd be like running for the goddamn hills, Like you
- 40:09Speaker 2: just murdered his wife.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Yeah, who's to say he's not going to do the
- 40:12Speaker 1: same to you.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Yeah when he finds another model that he likes better.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Yep.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Huh.
- 40:18Speaker 1: So there was another witness testimony that would actually tell
- 40:22Speaker 1: how Peter had hired a specific hit man, a Hungarian
- 40:25Speaker 1: hitman called the Duck, to do the job. The Duck,
- 40:29Speaker 1: so the Duck was a known hit man and police
- 40:32Speaker 1: knew who he was. However, he had moved back to
- 40:35Speaker 1: Hungary and had passed away prior to the police actually
- 40:39Speaker 1: being able to catch up and question him about it. Okay,
- 40:42Speaker 1: so that unfortunately was a dead end. They weren't able
- 40:45Speaker 1: to talk to him about that. So the case was
- 40:48Speaker 1: in court for a total of eleven weeks and was
- 40:50Speaker 1: a sensation in the national news headlines. The jury deliberated
- 40:56Speaker 1: for almost forty eight hours before they came back with
- 40:59Speaker 1: their vertical How do you think they they What do
- 41:03Speaker 1: you think they came back?
- 41:05Speaker 2: I'm literally still just thinking the duck, the duck. Could
- 41:08Speaker 2: you not have thought of a better name than that?
- 41:11Speaker 1: Why not? I mean, if you think of it in
- 41:13Speaker 1: like he's gonna hit you in the head, you better duck?
- 41:18Speaker 4: No, Okay, never mind, Still not good?
- 41:20Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, forty eight hours. Al so I feel like
- 41:23Speaker 2: he's not that long.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Well, it's two full days.
- 41:27Speaker 3: I guess that's too.
- 41:28Speaker 1: I'm assuming two full days of deliberation, not including breaks
- 41:32Speaker 1: and sleeps and stuff.
- 41:33Speaker 2: That's my assumption on that guilty for show.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Okay, Well, he was found guilty of murder for hire. Okay, yes,
- 41:42Speaker 1: so he was sentenced to life in prison.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Wow.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Yes. However, there are some pieces to this puzzle that
- 41:49Speaker 1: we still do need to discuss. Even though that he
- 41:51Speaker 1: was sentenced to life in prison he's found guilty, there's
- 41:55Speaker 1: a couple of little more pieces that we gotta we
- 41:56Speaker 1: gotta talk about here. So that same friend of Peter's
- 41:59Speaker 1: who testified against him in court, Saba, you know, the
- 42:02Speaker 1: guy who like the whole wire tap thing. Yeah, he
- 42:05Speaker 1: reported that Christine had actually originally approached him before Peter.
- 42:13Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 42:14Speaker 1: So Saba was not a small guy. He was a
- 42:18Speaker 1: frequent gym goer, and kind of somewhat of like a
- 42:19Speaker 1: bodybuilder type guy. Christine approached him offered to pay him
- 42:26Speaker 1: ten thousand dollars to go and break Peter's arms and legs.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Oh, but he's Peter's friend though, so that's kind of weird.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Correct.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Okay, here's okay, I thought that there was I was
- 42:40Speaker 2: going to think. I was thinking that Sabba sorry, yep,
- 42:43Speaker 2: was the father of the baby.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Oh immediately, that's what where.
- 42:48Speaker 2: I thought this was maybe going.
- 42:49Speaker 1: But no, okay, no, So yeah, she had actually approached
- 42:54Speaker 1: before Peter had talked about killing his wife.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Huh. Okay, so she was thinking making some moves here.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Yes, So there's also rumors of her trying to find
- 43:08Speaker 1: hitmen as well on Peter.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Wow, that is a healthy marriage, so definition right.
- 43:17Speaker 1: So put it this way. If she approaches Saba and
- 43:20Speaker 1: it's like, I'll pay you to go break my husband's
- 43:22Speaker 1: arms and legs, but then he turns around and tells Peter, yeah,
- 43:25Speaker 1: she's trying to pay me to break your arms and legs.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Maybe that it's that was the fuel that started this
- 43:32Speaker 1: whole fire. Maybe Peter found out about it, her trying
- 43:36Speaker 1: to use his own money to have him injured. Like this,
- 43:40Speaker 1: maybe that's what made him finally go through with like
- 43:44Speaker 1: having her killed.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Yeah, so maybe before he had found that out, But
- 43:49Speaker 2: this got this Sabba guy's almost like playing both sides
- 43:52Speaker 2: in a sense. It seems I don't all of a
- 43:54Speaker 2: sudden I don't really like him.
- 43:55Speaker 1: But is he though or is he just speaking? He
- 43:57Speaker 1: went in court and told and tell and testified he
- 44:00Speaker 1: wore a wire for authorities. I guess how is he
- 44:05Speaker 1: playing both sides?
- 44:06Speaker 2: Well, he was listening to the wife and then went
- 44:09Speaker 2: and told Peter what her intentions were. But then now
- 44:13Speaker 2: he's also listening to Peter's ill intentions.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Okay, put it this way. What if she never went
- 44:19Speaker 1: to Saba for a hitman to hire, but if she
- 44:23Speaker 1: just went to Saba being like break his arms and legs.
- 44:26Speaker 1: And He's like, oh shit, I gotta tell Peter that
- 44:28Speaker 1: she's trying to do this. So he goes to Peter's like, yeah,
- 44:30Speaker 1: she's trying to get your arms and legs broken. She
- 44:32Speaker 1: offered me money, and then Peter's like, are you fucking
- 44:34Speaker 1: kidding me? I'm gonna hire a hitman. I'm gonna get
- 44:36Speaker 1: her fucking killed. I'm gonna electrocutor in the pool or
- 44:40Speaker 1: fuck with your car or whatever. And then Saba was like,
- 44:42Speaker 1: holy shit, now you're trying to kill her. I'm going
- 44:45Speaker 1: to go to police because this is just way out
- 44:46Speaker 1: of control.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Okay, I take it back.
- 44:49Speaker 1: What if that's how it played out. I don't know,
- 44:51Speaker 1: that's just kind of how I see it.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that could be, that makes sense, okay, Okay, I'm
- 44:58Speaker 2: cool with him again.
- 45:00Speaker 1: With him again? Okay. I mean, regardless of how this
- 45:04Speaker 1: did play out, one way or another, Peter is behind
- 45:06Speaker 1: bars for life. He did hire someone to kill his wife. However,
- 45:13Speaker 1: he wouldn't stay there. What he would be released on
- 45:19Speaker 1: parole in nineteen eighty three.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Why?
- 45:24Speaker 1: Well why doesn't really matter because shortly thereafter he tried
- 45:27Speaker 1: to have his cousin's son kidnapped and killed.
- 45:33Speaker 2: So he needed to be stayed in like stay captain jail?
- 45:37Speaker 2: What the heck?
- 45:38Speaker 1: Yes, So Peter's daughter was being cared for by his cousin, okay,
- 45:44Speaker 1: and his cousin was also looking after his after Peter's
- 45:47Speaker 1: financial situation and stuff while he was in jail. So
- 45:50Speaker 1: Peter didn't think his daughter had been raised properly and
- 45:53Speaker 1: that his funds had been mismanaged in his absence. So
- 45:56Speaker 1: he wanted to gain revenge on basically a lack of
- 45:59Speaker 1: due care, and so he tried to have his cousin's
- 46:03Speaker 1: son kidnapped and killed.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Whoa, yeah, this is really fucked.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Yeah. However, Peter was caught in the process and would
- 46:13Speaker 1: receive another two life sentences for his crimes. Okay, so
- 46:19Speaker 1: a total of three life sentences now under his belt now.
- 46:23Speaker 1: In nineteen eighty eight, Peter again tried to orchestrate a
- 46:26Speaker 1: similar plot, this time on his former.
- 46:29Speaker 2: Lawyer while he's in jail.
- 46:31Speaker 1: Yeah, from behind bars, he tried to hire someone to
- 46:34Speaker 1: kill his daughter his Oh no, not his own daughter,
- 46:38Speaker 1: lawyer's daughter.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Okay, no, I couldn't take that if it was his
- 46:42Speaker 2: own daughter.
- 46:42Speaker 1: No, he tried to hire someone to kill his lawyer's daughter.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Okay yeah, but again Peter was caught and he received
- 46:51Speaker 1: another two life sentences. Wow, for a grand total of
- 46:55Speaker 1: five life sentences behind bar soly shit.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, he's not learning.
- 47:06Speaker 1: No, Peter still claims his innocence and says he never
- 47:11Speaker 1: hired someone. He would never hire someone to hurt his wife.
- 47:15Speaker 2: Oh really, yeah, yeah, you're really really showing that.
- 47:18Speaker 1: After being caught another two more times, like right, and
- 47:23Speaker 1: it's there was another judge that was kind of going
- 47:25Speaker 1: on record. I never took the quote. I wasn't going
- 47:27Speaker 1: to talk about it either, but it's it's kind of
- 47:30Speaker 1: perfect to actually talk about it.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Uh.
- 47:32Speaker 1: The judge is talking about how many psychopaths, as they
- 47:39Speaker 1: get older, they kind of mellow out. However, with Peter,
- 47:43Speaker 1: it seems to be reversed. The older he gets, the
- 47:46Speaker 1: crazier he seems to become.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Hmm, so who know, like gosh, if you're aware of him,
- 47:53Speaker 2: like fucking watch your back. Yeah, like he's probably gonna
- 47:56Speaker 2: be sending a hit man.
- 47:57Speaker 1: After Yeah, we might have someone after us from this episode.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Uh no, that's terrifying.
- 48:04Speaker 1: No, he's got no power, he's he's nothing, He's forever
- 48:09Speaker 1: behind bars. He is apparently one of like Canada's most
- 48:14Speaker 1: notorious murderers. Like some brutal shit taken very serious.
- 48:20Speaker 2: I do have to say though, that is a I've
- 48:23Speaker 2: on our podcast heard many people do Okay, what he's
- 48:27Speaker 2: doing is terrible, like terrible, but we've had stories where
- 48:31Speaker 2: people do like a lot worse and they don't have
- 48:34Speaker 2: that kind of time sentence that they're facing that's true,
- 48:37Speaker 2: which I don't love, but yeah, I just need to.
- 48:40Speaker 2: I needed to get that off my chest.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Well, sometimes justice is in just unfortunately, don't get me wrong. Yeah,
- 48:49Speaker 1: he should spend his life behind bars. Totally agree. However,
- 48:53Speaker 1: there are some people who probably should as well, and
- 48:56Speaker 1: they get much lighter sentences.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Yeah, case, can we just recap for one moment here? Yes,
- 49:02Speaker 2: so he went he's trying, So he went ahead and
- 49:06Speaker 2: he murdered his wife with a hit man. Yes, she
- 49:09Speaker 2: was also trying to do some shit to him, but
- 49:12Speaker 2: was too slow allegedly allegedly, Okay, allegedly allegedly. So then
- 49:18Speaker 2: he's in jail. He has his cousin looking after his
- 49:21Speaker 2: kid and his money, but he thinks that they're doing
- 49:24Speaker 2: a shitty job. So then he puts another hit man
- 49:27Speaker 2: on the cousin's kid. Yes, but that's the kid lived right, Yes, okay,
- 49:32Speaker 2: So then he also now is after his lawyer's kid.
- 49:37Speaker 2: Is always the kids? Why not just going after the lawyer?
- 49:39Speaker 2: I don't know, I mean I guess i'd be that'd
- 49:41Speaker 2: be quite.
- 49:41Speaker 1: A go after the loved one.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, okay, and that kid was fine.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Too, yes as far as I know.
- 49:47Speaker 2: Yes, Okay, So who the fuck's.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Next hopefully he is.
- 49:53Speaker 2: Yeah, good gosh. Yeah, the fact that he steals that
- 49:56Speaker 2: kind of power in jail and stuff is kind of scary.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Well, money does a lot, right, Yeah, so I don't
- 50:03Speaker 1: think he's ever going to be able to access his
- 50:04Speaker 1: money ever again.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Though money is kind of evil actually at.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Time, it corrupts a lot. It can do it can
- 50:11Speaker 1: do good, but it easily crupts people. I mean, money
- 50:16Speaker 1: is the readable evil, they say, right, so yeah, so
- 50:19Speaker 1: that is Yeah, that's the episode.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Wow.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that would have been a rollercoaster and a half
- 50:27Speaker 2: to research, Like, I don't think. I mean, I also
- 50:30Speaker 2: can understand why that took you longer than usual, because
- 50:33Speaker 2: I would be like, what the fuck am I doing
- 50:35Speaker 2: with my life researching this case? Like it was all
- 50:39Speaker 2: over the place in a little bit nuts.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and like I said at the very beginning, like
- 50:44Speaker 1: people strive for so many things, and yeah, once they
- 50:47Speaker 1: get there, they almost seem unsatisfied. And that's exactly what
- 50:51Speaker 1: this was. He knew what his family used to have,
- 50:55Speaker 1: and he strived for that or strove forward or how
- 50:58Speaker 1: you want to I don't know the proper fucking term.
- 51:00Speaker 1: My apologies, but he made his way to that, and
- 51:03Speaker 1: he actually far beyond and exceeded as far as I
- 51:05Speaker 1: can tell, and then he just wasn't happy.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good intro with this one.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Yeah, now there is a butt because Marina. Some say
- 51:19Speaker 1: that was his original love, and he even was confessing
- 51:22Speaker 1: to some people before like, yeah, I love this girl,
- 51:25Speaker 1: Christine was my second choice.
- 51:28Speaker 3: Wow.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Yeah, but Marina turned me down. So maybe he just
- 51:32Speaker 1: never was fully happy because he never did get what
- 51:35Speaker 1: he wanted. But I also have that feeling that because
- 51:38Speaker 1: he did have money, he did have a beautiful wife,
- 51:40Speaker 1: he did have a kid, he did have it all.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Even if he did get marine, I still don't think
- 51:45Speaker 1: he would be happy.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Probably not, No, there'd be something else.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Yeah, the grasses, it's not always greener on the other side.
- 51:51Speaker 1: And as I said in the beginning, it's often the
- 51:54Speaker 1: journey rather than the destination that people enjoy. We don't
- 51:58Speaker 1: tend to notice it, but yeah, the excitement building up
- 52:02Speaker 1: for going on vacation, and then you're on vacation, you
- 52:04Speaker 1: just kind of sit there like, ah, it's nice that
- 52:07Speaker 1: excitement is gone.
- 52:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Yeah, because then in the blink of it, it's just
- 52:11Speaker 2: over again.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and then you know, it's like, I'm ready to
- 52:14Speaker 1: go home, want to sleep in my own bed, you know,
- 52:18Speaker 1: those sort of things start your vacation wasn't quite what
- 52:21Speaker 1: you thought it was.
- 52:23Speaker 4: Jeez.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the journey that just seems such a downer thing.
- 52:29Speaker 1: No, it's all about the journey. It's looking forward to
- 52:32Speaker 1: what you can do next. It's working towards your next goal.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Yeah, something to look forward to and stuff.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Is important, exactly. And I think Peter lost himself on
- 52:44Speaker 1: his journey.
- 52:45Speaker 2: No shit, No, I mean yeah, I just feel like,
- 52:48Speaker 2: I mean, it's so much easier to be like on
- 52:50Speaker 2: the outside and like thinking it through, maybe a little
- 52:53Speaker 2: bit more without emotions and stuff. But I'm like, there
- 52:56Speaker 2: could have been some better ways to get out of
- 52:59Speaker 2: that for you.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I would think, I would really think. But
- 53:06Speaker 1: yeah that was Peter and Christine Demeter. If you liked
