- 0:00Speaker 1: Continue to talk Texas football as they will host the
- 0:02Speaker 1: Clemson Tigers in three days at DKR in the first
- 0:06Speaker 1: round of the College Football Playoff. And here to help
- 0:09Speaker 1: me preview this game, my good friend CJ Fogal from
- 0:12Speaker 1: on Texas Football. CJ, let's start off with this game Saturday.
- 0:17Speaker 1: What do you see as being the key battles in
- 0:20Speaker 1: game that will ultimately decide this outcome.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there's a couple, right. It's protecting the
- 0:25Speaker 2: football for Texas, it's execution in the red zone. All
- 0:29Speaker 2: of that comes down to the running game and Quinnie
- 0:32Speaker 2: ers right, you know, And so if you want to
- 0:33Speaker 2: come down to just simple terms, that's how well does
- 0:36Speaker 2: the offense execute?
- 0:37Speaker 3: Right.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Clemson is very opportunistic defensively, twenty five turnovers for us
- 0:41Speaker 2: this year, you know, they're up there top three in
- 0:44Speaker 2: the country and turnover margin, which is very key for
- 0:47Speaker 2: beating teams when you're eleven point underdog as well. So
- 0:50Speaker 2: for me, it's just as simple as find ways to
- 0:53Speaker 2: execute in the short red zone, something Texas necessarily hasn't done.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Over the last two weeks.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yeah, the turnovers would be part of thinking Clemson's both
- 1:01Speaker 1: losses or all their losses. They have not forced any
- 1:04Speaker 1: turnovers defensively on the red zone side. You mentioned that
- 1:07Speaker 1: from Texas. What have you seen that has been plaguing
- 1:10Speaker 1: Texas in the red zone?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, Look, this has been kind of a magic question
- 1:15Speaker 2: over the last two years. And I thought Texas had
- 1:18Speaker 2: done a good job early in the first half of
- 1:20Speaker 2: the season of figuring that out. Of course, you know,
- 1:22Speaker 2: they went on a pretty good six or seven games
- 1:25Speaker 2: stretch to start the season in terms of converting red
- 1:29Speaker 2: zone trips into seven points, and that since dissipated quite
- 1:33Speaker 2: a bit. And look, I think it starts with the
- 1:35Speaker 2: running game. I'd like to see maybe some Jared Gibson
- 1:37Speaker 2: on the downhill ability. I'd like to see maybe some
- 1:39Speaker 2: Arch Manning providing some of that quarterback run that package
- 1:43Speaker 2: that looked pretty good against Texas A and M. Let's
- 1:46Speaker 2: be honest, So I don't know the one on one
- 1:49Speaker 2: routes are there for Isaiah Bond if he's completely healthy.
- 1:52Speaker 2: We've seen Matthew Golden be a one on one threat
- 1:54Speaker 2: all throughout the year. Texas has to find ways to
- 1:57Speaker 2: create those simple throws for Quinnie was in the red
- 2:00Speaker 2: zone in that sense eluded them in the second half
- 2:03Speaker 2: of the year.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned Isaiah Bond's injury. I think there's been
- 2:06Speaker 1: three key players on offense. Obviously it's been injured and
- 2:09Speaker 1: not been playing one hundred percent Quin you weres of course,
- 2:11Speaker 1: Isaiah Bond, and then Kelvin Banks who missed the game
- 2:13Speaker 1: last week. How ready to go? Do you think those
- 2:16Speaker 1: guys will be come Saturday?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I've heard Quinn is completely back to full health.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Of course, not practicing with the brace. He's been slinging
- 2:25Speaker 2: the rock for the last two games with it on
- 2:27Speaker 2: since then, obviously with the bye week that is now
- 2:30Speaker 2: off of his injured ankle. Calvin Banks maybe not one
- 2:34Speaker 2: hundred percent, but good enough to give it a go
- 2:36Speaker 2: on Saturday. That's what I've been hearing recently as well.
- 2:39Speaker 2: He's been practicing with the first team as of Monday
- 2:41Speaker 2: and Tuesday. That is expected to be the case Wednesday
- 2:45Speaker 2: as well as Texas is back on the practice field currently.
- 2:48Speaker 2: And then Isaiah Bond maybe a little bit less of
- 2:50Speaker 2: an optimistic approach there with his ankle. Of course, he
- 2:53Speaker 2: got rolled up on by Trey Wisen late in that
- 2:56Speaker 2: Georgia game. Was seeing with a crutch with a boot
- 3:00Speaker 2: leaving the Mercedes Been Stadium two Saturdays ago in Atlanta.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I don't think that he's going to be one hundred percent.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I do think he will try to suit up and
- 3:09Speaker 2: give it a go. How often will he be a
- 3:12Speaker 2: difference maker? I lean towards not so often given the
- 3:15Speaker 2: status of that ankle.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Oklahoma game he had one catch five yards, and
- 3:19Speaker 1: that was really the beginning of his ankle problems. I mean,
- 3:22Speaker 1: the first five games of the season, CJ didn't have
- 3:24Speaker 1: a game worse than fifty yards, but since then only
- 3:27Speaker 1: one game above fifty yards. In the last three games,
- 3:30Speaker 1: he's had three catches for about forty nine yards. How
- 3:33Speaker 1: much of the offense struggling red zone and not being
- 3:37Speaker 1: able to put up the numbers that we used to
- 3:39Speaker 1: see them put up in the first half of the season.
- 3:40Speaker 1: How much of that do you think is on Isaiah
- 3:42Speaker 1: Bond not being properly healthy and also Texas just not
- 3:45Speaker 1: really having a true number one running back.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you can point to both being quite
- 3:51Speaker 2: a big of an issue. Right You know, with Isaiah
- 3:52Speaker 2: bon specifically, he probably more than anybody on the team
- 3:56Speaker 2: right now offensively at least has that instant impact trait
- 4:01Speaker 2: to him and that's his speed, right. We've seen it
- 4:02Speaker 2: twice this year where you know, he catches a bubble,
- 4:05Speaker 2: he finds a crease or a sliver on the outside,
- 4:07Speaker 2: and he's gone. You know, I don't think that anybody
- 4:10Speaker 2: else on this roster at the moment has that, and
- 4:13Speaker 2: you know that's kind of been what's missing is that
- 4:15Speaker 2: big play home run ability. Texas has done great whenever
- 4:19Speaker 2: you pick up you know, eight to twelve to you know,
- 4:21Speaker 2: run for three and you kind of chip your way
- 4:24Speaker 2: down the field, but that leads you right to.
- 4:27Speaker 3: The red zone.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Right in came We've talked about it. Texas struggles exactly there.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So for Isaiah Bond specifically, his absence has taken away
- 4:36Speaker 2: that instant home run, that instant touchdown from the Texas offense,
- 4:40Speaker 2: and that's certainly hurt them. But for the running game specifically,
- 4:44Speaker 2: you know we've seen this year not necessarily having that
- 4:48Speaker 2: true number one hasn't hurt them all that much.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Maybe a little bit in the red zone.
- 4:53Speaker 2: But you know, again, when you've rushed for three hundred
- 4:56Speaker 2: and thirty yards against Kentucky and Texas A and M
- 4:59Speaker 2: to end the red season, you're feeling pretty good. About
- 5:02Speaker 2: what Trey Wiser has been able to do. Now, it's
- 5:04Speaker 2: just about finding that offensive rhythm up front with the
- 5:06Speaker 2: offensive line, making sure that one the quarterbacks protected. Two
- 5:10Speaker 2: those lanes are created and it starts with those big
- 5:12Speaker 2: bodies up front.
- 5:13Speaker 3: The run will come as a result.
- 5:14Speaker 2: And I think that Clemson is a team that you'll
- 5:16Speaker 2: be able to see some success with in that run game.
- 5:19Speaker 1: You mentioned the deep ball and not having that deep
- 5:22Speaker 1: ball threat because I see a lot of stuff on
- 5:23Speaker 1: Twitter and message boards and no doubt probably in your
- 5:25Speaker 1: mentions as well as CJ about you know, well Quinn
- 5:28Speaker 1: can't throw the deep ball, Well who's he throwing to?
- 5:31Speaker 1: Because I mean we saw two years ago, well in
- 5:34Speaker 1: Texas really just had Xavior Worthy. You had a broken hand,
- 5:37Speaker 1: and that was about it. Struggle with a deep ball
- 5:40Speaker 1: passing attack. But then I thought last year it improved
- 5:42Speaker 1: and I think that was a lot about to do
- 5:43Speaker 1: with with Worthy being healthy and also the addition of
- 5:46Speaker 1: Ady Mitchell. I don't see another receiver like that. It
- 5:48Speaker 1: could be Isaiah Bam, but he's not healthy. Maybe John
- 5:51Speaker 1: day Cook, but you know he's gone from the program.
- 5:53Speaker 1: The one deep ball he did have, he did drop
- 5:56Speaker 1: Ryan Wingo. I think it is a great intermediary guy,
- 5:59Speaker 1: but he doesn't seem to be able to win that
- 6:00Speaker 1: one on one matchups and doesn't seem to have that
- 6:02Speaker 1: straight line speed that would be able to impact the
- 6:05Speaker 1: game in the deep ball manner.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that's kind of that big hindrance with the absence
- 6:11Speaker 2: of Isaiah Bond.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You know, look, we've seen Matthew Golden win a few
- 6:15Speaker 2: jump balls, right, He's had some success, had a big
- 6:18Speaker 2: catch against Texas A and m had one against Michigan.
- 6:21Speaker 2: It had one against Georgia right in the SEC championship game.
- 6:25Speaker 2: But is he the guy that Texas is gonna draw the.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Big play for? Well, at this point he might have
- 6:30Speaker 3: to be.
- 6:30Speaker 2: And I don't think that's necessarily to your point, the
- 6:33Speaker 2: big strength of his game, but you kind of have
- 6:37Speaker 2: to rely on who you got out there.
- 6:38Speaker 3: And you know, you're you're right.
- 6:40Speaker 2: You know, Texas has trusted Ryan Wingo to go up
- 6:43Speaker 2: there and win the fifty to fifties and it just
- 6:46Speaker 2: hasn't necessarily fallen his way. Right, that's partially on the quarterback,
- 6:49Speaker 2: that's partially on the young wide receiver. Maybe not positioning
- 6:51Speaker 2: his body, maybe not timing the jump, whatever the result is,
- 6:55Speaker 2: the ball's fallen incomplete and that that's just, you know,
- 6:58Speaker 2: a down that you don't get back. And part of
- 7:00Speaker 2: me cam, I think I tossed this idea to you
- 7:03Speaker 2: earlier last week. But when Texas was driving down the
- 7:06Speaker 2: field for that game time field goal against Georgia to
- 7:11Speaker 2: lead into overtime, you saw Sark go back to what
- 7:14Speaker 2: ended the season in twenty twenty three with those fades
- 7:17Speaker 2: that ad Ni Mitchell in the red zone, right, he
- 7:19Speaker 2: went back to back to Ryan Wingo on those kind
- 7:23Speaker 2: of outside fades to the end zone, and you know,
- 7:27Speaker 2: one ended up with a fifteen yard pass interference and
- 7:29Speaker 2: the other fell incomplete. But I'm sitting there thinking, you know,
- 7:32Speaker 2: we've been here before. You know, where's the creativity. You
- 7:35Speaker 2: have a time out left, find something that works. And
- 7:37Speaker 2: what had been working in that game it was the
- 7:39Speaker 2: underneath was the quick slants, the digs, the whips, everything
- 7:42Speaker 2: that Coin could just sit back, throw and let the
- 7:44Speaker 2: guys create after the catch.
- 7:45Speaker 3: It was working. The intermediate was working as well.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Some part of me still kind of holds out that
- 7:51Speaker 2: reservation that you know, there's still a fail safe in
- 7:54Speaker 2: there for sark and is just toss it up to
- 7:55Speaker 2: the big body on the outside and pray that he
- 7:57Speaker 2: comes down with the one on one win.
- 7:59Speaker 3: That just hasn't been case over the last couple of years.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Interesting you mentioned arts Manning. Of course, you know he
- 8:05Speaker 1: came in on that the first and ten to start
- 8:07Speaker 1: overtime against Georgia, had the good touchdown run against A
- 8:09Speaker 1: and M. Kind of surprised we didn't see it more
- 8:12Speaker 1: against Georgia, And I wonder if some of that is
- 8:15Speaker 1: just as hard as start just holding on to some
- 8:18Speaker 1: of these packages for later in the playoff. And I
- 8:20Speaker 1: want to ask you, do you think we're gonna see
- 8:23Speaker 1: Arts more in this playoff game? Or do you think
- 8:25Speaker 1: Texas will be able to get by without showing all
- 8:28Speaker 1: of their cards against a Clemson team that really, you know,
- 8:32Speaker 1: isn't one of the top twelve teams in the country,
- 8:33Speaker 1: but god in thanks to the a SEC championship win.
- 8:36Speaker 2: You know, it's pretty interesting, right, you know, you use
- 8:39Speaker 2: it against Texas A and M, but you don't use
- 8:41Speaker 2: it against Georgia.
- 8:41Speaker 3: What's the difference? Right?
- 8:43Speaker 2: You could argue the Georgia game had more at State
- 8:45Speaker 2: and it did, right. SEC championship was on the line,
- 8:48Speaker 2: why would you not use it. It's not to hold it back,
- 8:51Speaker 2: it's not to hide. It started own film, right. He
- 8:53Speaker 2: scored a touchdown his first touch against Texas A and M.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I look, if you have it, why not use it
- 8:58Speaker 2: because there's certainly something there that you can utilize, and
- 9:01Speaker 2: that's his legs.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Right.
- 9:02Speaker 2: The plus one math that goes into a running quarterback
- 9:06Speaker 2: or a mobile quarterback.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Changes the entire complexion of a defense.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And even if it's just for you know, a look,
- 9:12Speaker 2: you know, get it out there, force a timeout, force
- 9:14Speaker 2: the defense to adjust, because if they don't, you have
- 9:16Speaker 2: a look that you want, you can certainly utilize that.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Texas A and M. Look, he was on the field
- 9:20Speaker 3: for force snaps.
- 9:21Speaker 2: One of them ended up being a touchdown, another one
- 9:23Speaker 2: ended up being Texas A and M wasting a timeout.
- 9:25Speaker 2: I would use him at least for five or six snaps,
- 9:29Speaker 2: given the red zone boes of recently. But look, that's
- 9:34Speaker 2: why I'm talking to you and not head coach of
- 9:36Speaker 2: the Texas Longhorns, so that but I think you have
- 9:39Speaker 2: to utilize him. If not, there's a lot of what ifs.
- 9:42Speaker 2: If the season doesn't go as planned.
- 9:44Speaker 1: And I wonder how much of it is just is
- 9:46Speaker 1: Sark just does he not trust Arts to make throws
- 9:49Speaker 1: because in you know, it's been very very small sample size,
- 9:52Speaker 1: but in Georgia A and M, we just saw Arch
- 9:55Speaker 1: run the football, we didn't see him throw it. I
- 9:57Speaker 1: wonder if some of that has just Sark just afraid
- 9:59Speaker 1: of Arts, maybe made making a mistake and turn the
- 10:01Speaker 1: ball over in the red zone.
- 10:03Speaker 3: You've made mistakes with your normal quarterback. So what's the.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Difference, Yeah, a fair point. I think Texas can get
- 10:09Speaker 1: by Clemson without needing Arch, maybe Arizona State. But if
- 10:13Speaker 1: you get to Oregon and semi finals and that's the course,
- 10:15Speaker 1: that's a hypothetical, I think you're gonna need more Arch
- 10:18Speaker 1: manning and less Magically. The offense is back to where
- 10:21Speaker 1: it was at making the season. All let's talk about
- 10:23Speaker 1: the offense, about quaint and Arch. I think this game
- 10:27Speaker 1: on already comes down to the defense.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Yeah, totally.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I think again it starts with the front. You know,
- 10:33Speaker 2: that defensive end group, that defensive line group. Can you
- 10:35Speaker 2: stop film off in the running attack. If so, you'll
- 10:38Speaker 2: have a good, you know, chance of making Clemson very
- 10:42Speaker 2: one dimensional team. Also, on the edges. And we've seen
- 10:44Speaker 2: Texas be very good against running and mobile quarterbacks in
- 10:47Speaker 2: the past. Right, that includes Jaln Milroe last year, Jason
- 10:51Speaker 2: being at Kansas where they kind of have that triple option. Look,
- 10:54Speaker 2: you know, it was basically stymy throughout the entire afternoon.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Marcel Reid, Michael Hawk, It's Diego, Pavia, Taylor Green. The
- 11:01Speaker 2: list goes on and on. Texas has faced a lot
- 11:03Speaker 2: of mobile quarterbacks. How many have truly hurt the long ones?
- 11:08Speaker 2: Not many, right, maybe Dylan Gabriel late in that Oklahoma
- 11:11Speaker 2: game twenty twenty three. Aside from that, I don't think
- 11:14Speaker 2: that Texas was hurt by really any of them in
- 11:16Speaker 2: the run game. So that's more at testament to the
- 11:18Speaker 2: scheme in the game plan of saying, hey, ed rushers,
- 11:20Speaker 2: if you're not getting home, make sure he's not getting
- 11:23Speaker 2: to the outside, and make sure that you're containing and
- 11:25Speaker 2: allowing this top end secondary to make plays on the
- 11:29Speaker 2: Football's on the football live to see another down. Don't
- 11:31Speaker 2: allow the big explosive play with the quarterback run.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Talking with CJ. Fogel from on Texas Football and on
- 11:36Speaker 1: Texas football dot Com. Okay transfer portal windows open. We
- 11:39Speaker 1: seen Texas take three takes. Now it's kind of slowing
- 11:42Speaker 1: down a little bit. What have you made so far
- 11:44Speaker 1: of the three editions they have made? And do you
- 11:46Speaker 1: think we're gonna see anything more in the next couple
- 11:48Speaker 1: of weeks.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, Texas.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Look the windows open for another ten days and you'll
- 11:52Speaker 2: have some coaching changes. As January comes around, you'll have
- 11:56Speaker 2: the spring window, You'll.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Have grad transfers.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Texas will certainly see that rise double at least probably
- 12:03Speaker 2: triple if.
- 12:03Speaker 3: I had to guess right now. But they sit with
- 12:06Speaker 3: three right.
- 12:07Speaker 2: One's a two time All Conference punter, Jack Bomester from Utah.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Really big addition there. Of course, special teams maybe took
- 12:13Speaker 2: a step back this year. It's normally been really good
- 12:15Speaker 2: and I still think Jeff Banks is a tremendous special
- 12:18Speaker 2: teams coordinator, but now he's got a big leg at punter,
- 12:21Speaker 2: which is a big deal in my eyes. Brad Spence,
- 12:23Speaker 2: a guy that's come on late, was a bit undersized
- 12:25Speaker 2: out of high school, out of Houston. Four and a
- 12:28Speaker 2: half sacks, a guy that can play the middle two
- 12:29Speaker 2: hundred and forty pounds that's going to fit right in
- 12:32Speaker 2: with you know, some of the sec size that Texas
- 12:34Speaker 2: is posting right now.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Plus you can utilize.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Not just Anthony Hill blitzing and utilizing him in odd
- 12:40Speaker 2: front packages, but Brad Spence. He's already shown so far
- 12:44Speaker 2: that he can get to the quarterback. Had a sack
- 12:45Speaker 2: against Texas and Fateville this year.
- 12:47Speaker 3: And then Cole Brivard.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Look, Texas is in a big time market for defensive lineman.
- 12:53Speaker 2: They've got one in the fold with Bravard, to his
- 12:55Speaker 2: twenty three career starts a big time guy over the nose,
- 12:58Speaker 2: which you don't find very often in the portal.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Texas has won at defensive line.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I think they need three more, but we'll see where
- 13:05Speaker 2: they go when that window closes in ten days. I
- 13:09Speaker 2: would expect the Longhorns to have a couple other additions.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Okay, let's start with wide receiver Eric Sionolton Reteorgia Tech.
- 13:16Speaker 1: It sounds like he's going to end up at Auburn.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Do you think this is a spot where Texas will
- 13:20Speaker 1: wait until the next portal window after the postseason to
- 13:23Speaker 1: add a receiver.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's interesting, right.
- 13:26Speaker 2: It might come down to just what's the end decision
- 13:29Speaker 2: for some of the receivers on campus, right. I do
- 13:32Speaker 2: think Isaiah Bond is headed to the NFL draft. I
- 13:35Speaker 2: do think Matthew Golden is also headed to the NFL draft,
- 13:38Speaker 2: But I don't think that one holds as much, you know, confidence,
- 13:43Speaker 2: if you will, you know, I do think that there
- 13:45Speaker 2: is a little bit of a margin, a little bit
- 13:47Speaker 2: of a window for Texas to make a push to
- 13:49Speaker 2: retain Matthew Golden. The question is if you don't, do
- 13:53Speaker 2: you have a plan in place for that other wide
- 13:56Speaker 2: receiver spot again, because look, I think wing Goo and
- 13:59Speaker 2: More coming back is great.
- 14:01Speaker 3: You got some really talented freshman coming back.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Parker living Stones make a lot of noise and practice
- 14:06Speaker 2: already as well.
- 14:07Speaker 3: But you like that reliability.
- 14:09Speaker 2: You'd like to have that experience in production at the
- 14:11Speaker 2: wide receiver spot. And Singleton kind of fit the exact
- 14:14Speaker 2: mold that you were looking for with his ten three
- 14:15Speaker 2: one hundred meter speed.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and you also have Jimmie French coming back cleek Lockett. Interesting.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I could see Isaiah Bond returning just because of all
- 14:23Speaker 1: the injuries he's had this year bringing down his draft stock.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I can see Matthew Golden going for sure. We like
- 14:29Speaker 1: kicker spot do you think Texas makes a move. They
- 14:31Speaker 1: do have Spencer Barnett, the Westlake freshman, obviously burn Auburn
- 14:35Speaker 1: not having a good year, and he still has a
- 14:37Speaker 1: year let of eligibility.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yeah, this is an interesting one because look, a year ago,
- 14:41Speaker 2: Texas fans are probably clamoring for him to win the
- 14:44Speaker 2: Kicker of the Year award, right, you know, and that's
- 14:48Speaker 2: unfortunate that it's kind of turned to this. Right he's
- 14:50Speaker 2: sixty seven percent on the year. That's not gonna fly
- 14:52Speaker 2: at Texas. It's not gonna fly at many SEC programs
- 14:56Speaker 2: looking to compete for a national championship. I bet Texas
- 14:59Speaker 2: toy around for a portal kicker, you know, and we
- 15:03Speaker 2: kickers are tough to find Texas, you know, for whatever
- 15:05Speaker 2: the jokes are, you know, they've had a great run
- 15:08Speaker 2: of kickers success, right Nick ros justin Tucker.
- 15:11Speaker 3: You know, you go all the way back.
- 15:12Speaker 2: There's kickers there, including Cameron Dicker, that have kind of
- 15:15Speaker 2: set the standard for what kicking should be at Texas.
- 15:18Speaker 3: And you have a good one, you got to hold
- 15:19Speaker 3: on to him.
- 15:20Speaker 2: And right now, I think Texas might be in the
- 15:21Speaker 2: market for one. When it comes down to the portal.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Okay, one other spot in the transfer portal the branch
- 15:27Speaker 1: brothers Sakaya branch obviously a speedster at USC, a great returner,
- 15:32Speaker 1: but as a price tag of probably seven figures, and
- 15:35Speaker 1: also his brother's sign a branch who has had a
- 15:37Speaker 1: lot of trouble defensively at USC. What do you what
- 15:40Speaker 1: do you make of those two guys and what do
- 15:41Speaker 1: you think Texas will do with them?
- 15:43Speaker 2: Look, if it was just zachar Rai and the portal,
- 15:45Speaker 2: I think Texas makes a big time play for him. Now,
- 15:48Speaker 2: if it's a package deal with the Zion as well
- 15:50Speaker 2: the safety that you mentioned, that changes quite a bit
- 15:53Speaker 2: because do you pay the premium for both knowing that
- 15:56Speaker 2: one likely isn't going to be in You're too deep.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I think that's worth fair because this Texas secondary room,
- 16:02Speaker 2: especially at safety, has a lot of star power right
- 16:05Speaker 2: There's three five stars waiting to get on the field
- 16:07Speaker 2: that weren't on the field this year, and another borderline
- 16:09Speaker 2: five star that was injured off the field. So it's
- 16:12Speaker 2: a crowded room right now, and I know that. Look,
- 16:15Speaker 2: you'd like the difference maker that is Zachariat Branch. You'd
- 16:18Speaker 2: probably like to add some depth. But at the same time,
- 16:21Speaker 2: are you willing to go above and beyond with the
- 16:23Speaker 2: paycheck wise when we've not necessarily seen that be the
- 16:26Speaker 2: case for Longhorns and other portal recruitments.
- 16:29Speaker 1: You mentioned Cole Brovard from Purdue. He's going to transfer
- 16:32Speaker 1: to Texas defensive line depth. You worried about that, Texas
- 16:35Speaker 1: losing a couple guys, including sad Deir Mitchell, who I
- 16:37Speaker 1: think entered the portal and then went back out of
- 16:39Speaker 1: the portal during our interview just now about two more times.
- 16:42Speaker 1: What do you make of the Texas line defensive depth
- 16:44Speaker 1: right now?
- 16:45Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's it's a scary site.
- 16:47Speaker 2: You know, you got eighty six total snaps of the
- 16:49Speaker 2: guys on campus right now, plus you add the three
- 16:53Speaker 2: true freshmen coming in the twenty twenty five recruiting class,
- 16:55Speaker 2: and it's not a lot.
- 16:57Speaker 3: You know.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Luckily, Texas has already landed one right to Culbervard ou
- 17:01Speaker 2: to Purdue. That's a guy that I've pimed in already
- 17:03Speaker 2: to be a starter over the nose. You know, that's
- 17:04Speaker 2: a big body, six fourth or ind and thirty pounds again,
- 17:07Speaker 2: twenty three starts under his belt, three hundred and sixty
- 17:10Speaker 2: something snaps over the a gap this year, it's pretty good.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Now you got to find something next to him.
- 17:16Speaker 2: And look, I do think Alex January is going to
- 17:19Speaker 2: be a big time player at Texas, but you got
- 17:22Speaker 2: to get him to the point where he's completely ready.
- 17:24Speaker 2: And look, it takes a physical freak to step in
- 17:27Speaker 2: day one become a contributor as a true freshman. Let's
- 17:30Speaker 2: see if any of these three in the twenty five
- 17:32Speaker 2: class become one of those guys. Because we saw it
- 17:35Speaker 2: briefly from January and he had some good moments. That's
- 17:38Speaker 2: a tough thing to ask. Last question for you.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I know it's Wednesday, but do you have an early
- 17:43Speaker 1: prediction yet for Saturday's game between Texas and Clemson.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Look, I don't have a score locked in yet, but
- 17:49Speaker 2: I do think this is going to be a game
- 17:51Speaker 2: that's pretty close in the first half. And that's kind
- 17:54Speaker 2: of weird thing because Texas normally start out pretty well
- 17:57Speaker 2: first half.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 17:58Speaker 2: You know these I believe they've only allowed something like
- 18:02Speaker 2: ten points over their last five contests in the first
- 18:04Speaker 2: half of football games. And offensively, they're tremendous. Clemson offensively
- 18:09Speaker 2: they're also really good. But like Lincoln Riley, his brother
- 18:13Speaker 2: Garrett Riley, the offensive coordinator at Clemson. Look, he stumbles
- 18:17Speaker 2: in the second half. One adjustments needed to be made.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Results tend to take a tumble. So look Clemson, for
- 18:24Speaker 2: whatever the reason, their fourth quarter scoring difference is not favorable.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I think it'll be a close first half and then
- 18:29Speaker 2: you'll see Texas kind of pull away with some of
- 18:31Speaker 2: that depth, with some of that top end talent that
- 18:35Speaker 2: is sitting in the Burnt Orange, not the Clemson orange.
- 18:38Speaker 1: He is Cjfocal from mon Texas Football and on Texas
- 18:41Speaker 1: Football dot Com. Hey, thanks for time in and I'll
- 18:43Speaker 1: talk to you Saturday.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Absolutely, Cam, I appreciate you having me on.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Yes, Sir Cjfogel from on Texas Football, give him a
- 18:49Speaker 1: fall on Twitter at Cjfogel underscore OTF Texas Clemson three
