- 0:06Speaker 1: Welcome everybody. This is me putting on a professional voice
- 0:10Speaker 1: because the last two intros Paul has deemed too offensive
- 0:14Speaker 1: and I'm not allowed to put them in. Sorry about
- 0:17Speaker 1: the delay in the show, everybody, We're a professional podcast.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Moving forward. Just kidding, just kidding. Jake's guys, it's been
- 0:27Speaker 1: a while between drinks. Yeah, I blame you. Yes, I've
- 0:31Speaker 1: been away. You've been away. You were sick.
- 0:33Speaker 2: At one point that we will meet to film, I
- 0:35Speaker 2: said I was sick, but yeah, I got that vibe.
- 0:38Speaker 1: You sounded fine. Yeah.
- 0:39Speaker 2: You know, right at the end of the call, when
- 0:41Speaker 2: someone calls in sick, they're like, oh shit, I got
- 0:43Speaker 2: a cough and then.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it was very much like I've got the black
- 0:47Speaker 1: lung pops and then mal he gave me the fucking
- 0:49Speaker 1: time off. Let's go. Yeah, I was sick the family.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Everyone had COVID, so I'm got crook. Well, well you
- 0:58Speaker 1: were in town for something, weren't you. Yes, what was it?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Oh that's right.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I was up with Joe Achilles, who were going to
- 1:04Speaker 2: have on the podcast.
- 1:04Speaker 1: We had a new best mate.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yes, we did a couple of shows, did a couple
- 1:10Speaker 2: of shows, so one it wasn't a show.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It was like a YEAHJ J, that's it. That's that's
- 1:18Speaker 1: an awkward reference.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yes, that's the one that I unfortunately know, but let's
- 1:23Speaker 2: not go there. But yeah, we're in Sydney to do
- 1:26Speaker 2: the Sydney Show at BMW Sydney in Rush Cutters Base
- 1:30Speaker 2: Shine Dealership. But yeah, we actually drove from and I'll
- 1:36Speaker 2: just quickly run through this. We drove from Melbourne to
- 1:38Speaker 2: Sydney in two BMW seven series. One was a seven
- 1:41Speaker 2: forty and the other was an I seven. And we
- 1:44Speaker 2: wanted to figure out whether it is actually cheaper to
- 1:46Speaker 2: do the drive in a petrol car or an EV
- 1:49Speaker 2: how much inconvenience is sort of added to it all?
- 1:52Speaker 1: And I do love that you chose BMW for that
- 1:55Speaker 1: comparison to you poor bars.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Well no, no, we did this once with our balls
- 2:00Speaker 2: and I in an EV six and an out in
- 2:02Speaker 2: Q five days.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I remember that. Yeah, adelaid to Sydney and PA was
- 2:06Speaker 1: where you met Donna. Correct, that's right.
- 2:09Speaker 2: So people bitch that they weren't the same car as
- 2:12Speaker 2: in it wasn't like that was that was diesel and
- 2:14Speaker 2: that was the EV version. So we thought, well let's
- 2:16Speaker 2: make it equal and BMW had the seven Series available
- 2:19Speaker 2: in both petrol and EV and we thought.
- 2:22Speaker 1: We'll give it a crack.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Obviously, they are very expensive and not a realistic car,
- 2:26Speaker 2: but if you just transpose those two cars with any
- 2:29Speaker 2: other two cars that have an internal combustion and an
- 2:33Speaker 2: EV version, you can kind of follow the same routine
- 2:36Speaker 2: and further caveat to that is, obviously the seven Series
- 2:39Speaker 2: is heavy, and if you did it in a lighter
- 2:42Speaker 2: electric vehicle it would be different. But the premise is
- 2:45Speaker 2: the BMW claims to do at least five hundred kilometers
- 2:47Speaker 2: on a single charge. So in the future, when cheaper
- 2:50Speaker 2: evs have more range and a lighter and blah blah blah,
- 2:53Speaker 2: this should be the same story. So anyway, we set
- 2:56Speaker 2: off from Melbourne and I thought it's going to be
- 2:58Speaker 2: a bit uneventful list because you know, the BMW.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Is just it just kind of just works.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Everything was fine then halfway Our plan was to stop
- 3:08Speaker 2: at Tarcuta, which is halfway between Melbourne and Sydney.
- 3:10Speaker 1: What was it called Tarcuta? Tarkata, It's like the sounds
- 3:14Speaker 1: regional town I probably did radio in once upon. It's
- 3:17Speaker 1: just about bloody half an hour from tear a bag apart. No, No,
- 3:21Speaker 1: my down the road from Kicking Can around Tarakata.
- 3:26Speaker 2: So halfway there, I got a message from Jade in
- 3:29Speaker 2: our office and she goes, oh, have any of the
- 3:32Speaker 2: EV charges worked?
- 3:33Speaker 1: And I said, what are you talking about?
- 3:34Speaker 2: And she goes, the Optus network is down and I'm like, yeah,
- 3:36Speaker 2: so what So at these EV charges it has to
- 3:40Speaker 2: authenticate your credit card and stuff, and half of them
- 3:42Speaker 2: were on the Optus network. So I was at this
- 3:46Speaker 2: point about half an hour away from Tarkata and that
- 3:50Speaker 2: was our destination. And I said, look, we can turn
- 3:52Speaker 2: around and go somewhere else. But I mean, this is
- 3:54Speaker 2: part of the story, right if I if it doesn't work,
- 3:57Speaker 2: then you guys continue driving and I'll just hang around somewhere.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Else's the problem you get a children too.
- 4:02Speaker 2: It listened to Gordy's success or a Tarkata a FM,
- 4:06Speaker 2: the Sound of the Coast or the Sound of Inland.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Which the music we all love now huge Blinda carlor.
- 4:15Speaker 2: So anyway, I started getting a bit of range anxiety
- 4:18Speaker 2: because I arrived at Tarkata with two percent battery left,
- 4:21Speaker 2: like it was almost empty. And the other thing we
- 4:23Speaker 2: were going to do on this trip was make sure
- 4:25Speaker 2: that we didn't put it in e Co Martos left
- 4:27Speaker 2: the AC on twenty one degrees. It was bloody hot,
- 4:30Speaker 2: cooled seats running, all that sort of stuff. So anyway,
- 4:33Speaker 2: this was the like the only charger in the country
- 4:35Speaker 2: that actually still worked. That's incresed some reason. It must
- 4:39Speaker 2: have been on Telstrue. They may not have had optors
- 4:40Speaker 2: there or something. So thankfully that worked. Put a bit
- 4:43Speaker 2: juice in it and anyway, long story short, we got
- 4:45Speaker 2: to the end and the EV cost so all the
- 4:49Speaker 2: charging we brim them at the start, so when we
- 4:51Speaker 2: started the road trip it was one hundred percent.
- 4:53Speaker 1: That's a thought. He was there to help with that bit,
- 4:58Speaker 1: just paul A Joe so having a good brim session.
- 5:02Speaker 2: So both of them were brimmed at in Hawthorne in
- 5:06Speaker 2: the back the nozzle in there.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Right, So the EV total cost one hundred and thirty
- 5:13Speaker 2: one dollars and ninety two cents one.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Point thirty one for the EV yep Okay.
- 5:17Speaker 2: The petrol car, so this is premium unloaded ninety eight
- 5:21Speaker 2: run it costs one hundred and seventeen dollars, So it
- 5:26Speaker 2: was cheaper to do the trip in a petrol car
- 5:28Speaker 2: than it was to do it in the diesel.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Someone else did a report on news dot com dot
- 5:32Speaker 1: you about about this a similar sort of a thing,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and just saying how much it costs to get from
- 5:38Speaker 1: say Sydney Melbourne and v as opposed to the usual trip,
- 5:41Speaker 1: and not as precise as yours. Obviously not a proper test,
- 5:44Speaker 1: but just an observation and interesting.
- 5:47Speaker 2: So yeah, look, I mean, obviously the BMW would average
- 5:51Speaker 2: just over twenty killer what hours per one hundred ks.
- 5:53Speaker 2: If you do it in a more efficient car, it'd
- 5:54Speaker 2: probably about sixteen or fifteen depending on the car.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Having said that, you're filling up charging up on the road, right,
- 6:03Speaker 1: so it's going to be a different cost if you're
- 6:05Speaker 1: using this car, like obviously around town as a commuter
- 6:08Speaker 1: and you're charging it.
- 6:09Speaker 2: If you're charging at home, obviously it's cheaper. And also
- 6:12Speaker 2: if you're going to a destination where there's free charging,
- 6:15Speaker 2: then you would lop thirty three dollars off the charging price,
- 6:18Speaker 2: which was the final cost that we had to put
- 6:20Speaker 2: in there, so then it would it would become cheaper.
- 6:23Speaker 2: But if you're on a road trip, which is what
- 6:25Speaker 2: people do, you're going to be using public charging infrastructure,
- 6:27Speaker 2: and you may not have charging your destination. So this
- 6:30Speaker 2: is just a fair way of doing it so that
- 6:32Speaker 2: we can have an Apple's for Apples comparison. And the
- 6:34Speaker 2: other thing as well is that electricity prices are getting
- 6:37Speaker 2: more expensive. So at the moment, it was costing between
- 6:40Speaker 2: sixty five and sixty nine cents per kilo what hour
- 6:43Speaker 2: to charge these cars. So you can imagine in the
- 6:46Speaker 2: future as electricity prices keep going up, it is just
- 6:50Speaker 2: going to become more expensive because these fuel companies are
- 6:53Speaker 2: just going to want to make the same amount of
- 6:55Speaker 2: money as they did off you when you were filling
- 6:57Speaker 2: it up with petrol or diesel.
- 6:58Speaker 1: It's funny, though, we hear so much bitching and moaning
- 7:01Speaker 1: about the price of petrol, and no one in their
- 7:04Speaker 1: EV's is complaining about the price of charging them on
- 7:06Speaker 1: public charges. Really yep.
- 7:08Speaker 2: And you know the other thing I'm going to throw
- 7:10Speaker 2: into the mix as well. At the moment, forty odd
- 7:12Speaker 2: cents per liter of fuel goes to the government, So
- 7:16Speaker 2: the second you remove that, they're going to have to
- 7:19Speaker 2: add that on to your charging for an EV eventually,
- 7:22Speaker 2: because they're not just going to relinquish billions of dollars
- 7:24Speaker 2: in fuel excise, So it is only going to become
- 7:28Speaker 2: more expensive to charge an EV on public charging infrastructure.
- 7:31Speaker 2: But if you're like me, we haven't paid for the
- 7:35Speaker 2: past year a single cent to.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Charge our EV at home your tesla.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah, because we're in an apartment building and we use
- 7:43Speaker 2: common electricity.
- 7:45Speaker 1: So it's just paid for by all own it's not
- 7:48Speaker 1: it is paid for by body in theory. Yeah, so
- 7:51Speaker 1: it is.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's divided by everyone, so it isn't a
- 7:55Speaker 2: fair system.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But so where you have this, so everyone who's not
- 8:00Speaker 1: hang on, so everyone in your apartment building who's not
- 8:03Speaker 1: an EV owner is essentially paying for your Aye, you
- 8:07Speaker 1: sneaky bastard. And an't you like the bloody chairman. We've
- 8:11Speaker 1: moved out of that building, so is used. There was
- 8:15Speaker 1: a few little you don't talk about that. Yeah, that's fun.
- 8:19Speaker 2: But yeah, so I think for every case where you're
- 8:22Speaker 2: paying for stuff, you're going to have an offset where
- 8:24Speaker 2: someone has sol or batteries or whatever. So it sort
- 8:27Speaker 2: of balances out in the grand scheme of things. But
- 8:28Speaker 2: I just thought it was an interesting thing to do.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And yeah, so that that story will be out shortly
- 8:33Speaker 2: and have a watch.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Of the video Joe and I.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Joe isn't a fan of EV's, so you can imagine
- 8:39Speaker 2: how much shit he was hanging on me in the
- 8:41Speaker 2: video when we discovered that there was an opt us out.
- 8:44Speaker 1: This new apartment building you're in, Is it like a
- 8:47Speaker 1: gated style community if you've got some sort of care
- 8:50Speaker 1: going on? Yeah? Have you got help? You don't have
- 8:55Speaker 1: the maide in this one. You had that in the
- 8:58Speaker 1: last one. Yeah, So where are you living right now?
- 9:02Speaker 1: Let's share it for everyone. Share your address so people
- 9:04Speaker 1: know where to send hate mail pooh bombs. I remember
- 9:07Speaker 1: the pooh bombs in the bag. Send most a little path.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Why you told your boring story about EV's and bloody
- 9:13Speaker 1: Joe Achilles or whatever his fucking name is. I was
- 9:16Speaker 1: too busy drifting around a track. Oh how'd that guy? Yeah,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I'm going to talk to We'll talk about this in
- 9:20Speaker 1: the next episode, but just a quick one of shout
- 9:22Speaker 1: out to Drift School Australia on Instagram, who reached out.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I had a bloody fun day. Fernando who runs the thing, Well,
- 9:30Speaker 1: he'll go deep into the day and talk about I
- 9:33Speaker 1: think he's gonna give me a bit of a score
- 9:35Speaker 1: on my progress. Do you know one thing I did? Notice? Right?
- 9:39Speaker 2: Well, I can give you the score now if you want. No,
- 9:43Speaker 2: Actually I did pretty bloody well.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Have you know? Do you know the hardest thing I
- 9:47Speaker 1: realized isn't so much the actual act of drifting. It's
- 9:50Speaker 1: to kind of kick the car around to that perfect
- 9:52Speaker 1: sort of angle. That was That was the hardest point. Like,
- 9:55Speaker 1: it was interesting how they start the day off, because
- 9:59Speaker 1: you kind of lead up a drifting, they kind of
- 10:01Speaker 1: teach you the basic sort of foundations I guess of
- 10:04Speaker 1: what you're going to need to kind of get to
- 10:05Speaker 1: that point. So like doughnuts and all sorts of stuff
- 10:09Speaker 1: which are nailed. The fact that they had sitting risen
- 10:13Speaker 1: from seven eleven polished those off. But yeah, so all
- 10:17Speaker 1: that sort of stuff was. It was great. It was easy.
- 10:19Speaker 1: It was sort of but the one thing that I
- 10:22Speaker 1: thought was going to be I thought the actual getting
- 10:26Speaker 1: into the position of a drift would have been the
- 10:28Speaker 1: easy part, and it was holding sort of that position
- 10:31Speaker 1: that would have been the hard part. But it was
- 10:33Speaker 1: for me, it was completely the opposite. Once I was
- 10:35Speaker 1: in sort of drift, that was kind of easy to
- 10:37Speaker 1: find that friction point generally and balance around. It's just
- 10:40Speaker 1: kicking that fucking car around. And there's a few different ones.
- 10:43Speaker 1: They had utes and nice. They had three point fifty
- 10:47Speaker 1: z which was highly modern. Yeah, I know, but I
- 10:50Speaker 1: like that. I preferred it. It was just nice and
- 10:52Speaker 1: easy Tardi. Uh what else did I think? They had
- 10:55Speaker 1: a Sylvia too? Ute? Sounded fucking yeah, Commodore? Yeah, yeah, nice,
- 11:01Speaker 1: really good, very nice. But yeah, a great day. We'll
- 11:04Speaker 1: chat about that in the next one. But shout out
- 11:06Speaker 1: to shout out to those guys. Go go buy yourself
- 11:09Speaker 1: a nice little Christmas present. Often because they it's an
- 11:12Speaker 1: interesting one because you know when you do those sort
- 11:14Speaker 1: of experiences, the bloody you know, red balloon or experience,
- 11:18Speaker 1: you know, all these sort of car experiences. He sort
- 11:20Speaker 1: of think to yourself, Man, they stack up in cost.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And then I was talking to a couple of the
- 11:26Speaker 1: instructors about just the running costs of this thing, and
- 11:30Speaker 1: it's huge.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Well, yeah, put it this way, if you were to
- 11:33Speaker 2: take your own car, you would And this is the thing.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Their cars are engineered for that driving. They've got a
- 11:39Speaker 2: proper either a locked or of very limited slip differential,
- 11:43Speaker 2: which isn't on a standard car, and then in addition
- 11:46Speaker 2: to that, they've got extra steering angle as well to
- 11:48Speaker 2: make it easier to drift. You've got engine modifications for
- 11:51Speaker 2: additional card. So if you were to go take your
- 11:54Speaker 2: own car there, you would probably do a thousand dollars
- 11:57Speaker 2: worth of damage by the time in one session everything.
- 11:59Speaker 2: So yeah, I always say to people, whenever you look
- 12:02Speaker 2: at track days and stuff where you're not supplying your car, Yep, whatever.
- 12:05Speaker 1: The cost is, it's probably worth it. They've got. One
- 12:10Speaker 1: of the instructors was saying, because he went through the
- 12:12Speaker 1: school himself and then loved it that much, he sort
- 12:16Speaker 1: of kept going with it, and now he's an instructor.
- 12:19Speaker 1: But he was saying, five years ago he'd pay I
- 12:23Speaker 1: think it was like one hundred bucks a tire. Right
- 12:26Speaker 1: now it's two hundred bucks a tire, right, So all
- 12:29Speaker 1: those sort of things have doubled. Things like you know,
- 12:34Speaker 1: as you said, the mods, the handbrakes, like everything. Engines.
- 12:37Speaker 1: People used to buy.
- 12:39Speaker 2: LS three engines that they would stick in stuff, and
- 12:42Speaker 2: if you didn't buy a crate engine, which were quite expensive,
- 12:44Speaker 2: you'd go and find a wrecked car that had a
- 12:46Speaker 2: rear impact and you'd.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Just salvage the engine.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Now you cannot find an LS three or a barrower
- 12:52Speaker 2: anywhere because people have just gobbled up everything. They're no
- 12:56Speaker 2: longer making barrows, so they're impossible to find. So of
- 12:59Speaker 2: the few that left, they're demanding high premium. So to
- 13:01Speaker 2: actually build a drift car today, this.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Culture is the ultimate environmentalists. They're really easy. Well that's it,
- 13:08Speaker 1: there you go, green, Yeah, Greta get on block. Can
- 13:12Speaker 1: you imagine Greta doing the drift? How dare you? I
- 13:16Speaker 1: should be in school? No, sorry, she's no. Thanks. Oh
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know what else I did? I just spend some
- 13:23Speaker 1: time in a BYD Dolphin. Oh, there you go. Yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 1: I enjoyed it. Yeah, I enjoyed it. It's quirky. It's
- 13:32Speaker 1: a quirky little thing. Do you know what? The interior
- 13:34Speaker 1: is not as full on, I guess as the ATO three,
- 13:38Speaker 1: but it is much cheaper, isn't it. Yeah? Well yeah,
- 13:41Speaker 1: you're looking at around about forty thousand dollars. It sort
- 13:43Speaker 1: of competes with the MG four. It was a bit
- 13:45Speaker 1: of a bitch, sessh because when I think MG four
- 13:49Speaker 1: jumped on, they launched with forty thousand dollars. Ye, drive
- 13:53Speaker 1: away or something like that. These guys undercut MG by
- 13:56Speaker 1: one hundred bucks drive away, so technically they're Australia's most
- 14:00Speaker 1: affordable EVA. If I was sort of comparing it to say,
- 14:03Speaker 1: the MG four, I think the MG four looks I
- 14:06Speaker 1: don't know, it's it's Apple's oranges one sort of styled
- 14:09Speaker 1: a bit more aggressive than I quite like the MG four.
- 14:11Speaker 1: But the MG four's interior compared to the BYD interior,
- 14:15Speaker 1: I thought the BYD nailed it. Like they've got better tech.
- 14:18Speaker 1: It looks better. It's obviously doesn't have that ridiculous quirk
- 14:21Speaker 1: that the A three kind of had with the strings
- 14:24Speaker 1: and stuff like that. But it's really well, it's really
- 14:26Speaker 1: well put together. Inside, the text really good. I think
- 14:29Speaker 1: it does a better job of the interior. Generally, I'm
- 14:32Speaker 1: looking forward to the the X. Yeah, the Seal is
- 14:36Speaker 1: going to be great. I think we're doing something with Luke.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Look out for that. You strap the wet suit on, yeah, yeah,
- 14:44Speaker 1: when you're in the Dolphin, it actually does make that
- 14:46Speaker 1: sort of it's the sound of a dolphin even when
- 14:51Speaker 1: you push the horn. It is showing that electric cars
- 14:56Speaker 1: are getting much much cheaper in Australia. Sorry, with the Dolphin,
- 15:01Speaker 1: is when you pass another dolphin driver in traffic, like,
- 15:05Speaker 1: rather than sort of give the knowing wave, you can
- 15:07Speaker 1: just throw a piece of fish at them and they
- 15:09Speaker 1: balance a beach ball on their head. It makes SENSEA look,
- 15:14Speaker 1: just a quick one on that. We won't to a
- 15:16Speaker 1: full review or anything of it, but I think it
- 15:18Speaker 1: should definitely be, definitely be on people's list because it's
- 15:21Speaker 1: it's a great little car and it's fuck it's thirty
- 15:24Speaker 1: nine just under forty thousand drive away. Yeah, yeah it is.
- 15:28Speaker 1: It is cheap. We actually did a drag race between
- 15:31Speaker 1: the MG four x Power and the I seven seventy.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Oh I've got the x Power Monday. I'm looking for
- 15:39Speaker 1: it too.
- 15:40Speaker 2: So that was sixty grand versus three hundred and fifty grand.
- 15:43Speaker 2: So yeah, you can head to the car Expert channel
- 15:46Speaker 2: to check that out.
- 15:47Speaker 1: It is just tell me the result right now. No,
- 15:49Speaker 1: it was actually half half one half of them and
- 15:51Speaker 1: the BMW on the other half. Yeah, it was really
- 15:54Speaker 1: quite fascinating. How did you find before I get into
- 15:57Speaker 1: this thing? How did you find it with the because
- 15:59Speaker 1: this thing's dual motor or will drive sort of situation
- 16:02Speaker 1: going on? Yeah, look, it was.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Okay in a straight line, but when we started sort
- 16:08Speaker 2: of getting up at around the right and handling track.
- 16:11Speaker 1: It has a few quirks that I wasn't a fan of.
- 16:14Speaker 2: So it's got a talk vectoring system and an electronic
- 16:18Speaker 2: locking differential, and none of that works really well with
- 16:21Speaker 2: the stability control, so it's constantly biting and doing weird
- 16:24Speaker 2: stuff mid corner. So I think that needs a little
- 16:27Speaker 2: bit of work. But outside of that, breaks were good.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Handling was pretty good for sixty grand. Yeah, and not
- 16:34Speaker 2: complain you can't really good like.
- 16:38Speaker 1: That's what I'm looking forward to is the fact that it's,
- 16:41Speaker 1: you know, the handling should be a little bit better
- 16:44Speaker 1: technically than the m FALL the standard YEP.
- 16:48Speaker 2: But the other thing as well is that I don't
- 16:51Speaker 2: love the battery capacity. It's using the smaller battery, so
- 16:54Speaker 2: you only getting rated range of three hundred and fifty k's.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Our range on the day was two hundred and the
- 16:59Speaker 2: bad tree was flat, so we did a lot of
- 17:01Speaker 2: hard driving.
- 17:03Speaker 1: But one hundred k's of that. One hundred and ten
- 17:05Speaker 1: k's of that was highway driving to get there. Now
- 17:07Speaker 1: that I'm a drift expert, does that have a drift mode?
- 17:10Speaker 1: I don't know. That's the other thing they need to
- 17:12Speaker 1: fix as well. It's sort of that needs to get
- 17:14Speaker 1: sorted to. But otherwise, sixty thousand dollars, what is that?
- 17:18Speaker 1: Zero to one hundred and three point eight Yeah, fucking
- 17:21Speaker 1: hell yeah, it is quick. It is quick. There is
- 17:24Speaker 1: still something a little bit underwhelming going fast in an
- 17:31Speaker 1: EV rather than a three hundred and fifty thousand dollar Porsche.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Thanks very much. That's true, you know what I mean,
- 17:38Speaker 1: just lacks that sound and emotion, likes that everything. Oh hey,
- 17:43Speaker 1: here's an interesting story that pops across my desk, thanks
- 17:46Speaker 1: to you. Gone hey. So monsh hospital has decided to
- 17:51Speaker 1: ban EV charges. Now, I thought they were just kind
- 17:53Speaker 1: of saying no to the whole no to EV charges
- 17:56Speaker 1: in general. But they've literally pulled the ones that they've
- 17:58Speaker 1: got out and said, nah, it's not happening. Yeah. According to.
- 18:04Speaker 2: The story on our site, so Mono Shealth has banned
- 18:07Speaker 2: electric vehicle charging in its hospitals and medical centers, citing
- 18:10Speaker 2: a work Safe Victoria's safety alert warning that evs pose
- 18:14Speaker 2: a fire risk. So the exact wording from work Safe
- 18:17Speaker 2: was when overheated lithium ion batteries of all sizes can
- 18:20Speaker 2: catch fire, the fire is often hard to put out
- 18:22Speaker 2: and the smoke from the fire can be toxic. So
- 18:24Speaker 2: obviously you can see how that's an issue at a
- 18:27Speaker 2: workplace where where it's a hospital, because you've got sick
- 18:30Speaker 2: people that are already. So the recommendation is that electric
- 18:34Speaker 2: vehicles with lithium ion battery should not be charged close
- 18:38Speaker 2: to office spaces or near people, and that there should
- 18:41Speaker 2: be a dedicated charging area that's separate from areas where
- 18:44Speaker 2: people are working.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Fuck, what do they want to paddock?
- 18:47Speaker 2: Well, I mean it seems that way. But yeah, I
- 18:51Speaker 2: just find it. I find it really interesting that you
- 18:54Speaker 2: know this is happening. We published also content recently about
- 19:00Speaker 2: a big body corporate firm here in Melbourne that has
- 19:03Speaker 2: recommended to owners corporations that they don't install EV charges
- 19:08Speaker 2: or charge vehicles apartment building.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:11Speaker 2: So this is obviously an area of concern and there
- 19:15Speaker 2: is no kind of ruling on this yet. There's just
- 19:18Speaker 2: all this loose advice.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So but I mean, and this advice is essentially coming
- 19:24Speaker 1: from I would imagine government bodies things like you know,
- 19:30Speaker 1: like for instance, in New South Wales, I know, the
- 19:32Speaker 1: New South Wales Fire Authority. You know, these people did
- 19:35Speaker 1: like a full report and we're saying how difficult it
- 19:38Speaker 1: is to put out ev fires.
- 19:41Speaker 2: It's a fact, right, So a lithiumine battery fire gets
- 19:44Speaker 2: thermal run away and is almost impossible to put out quickly,
- 19:47Speaker 2: so that there is no known way of doing it quickly.
- 19:50Speaker 2: They've created like dunking bars where Ukraine like a smoldering
- 19:54Speaker 2: Jesus fire into this immerse it in water until it
- 20:01Speaker 2: is well and truly safely out. That's impossible, well, almost
- 20:04Speaker 2: impossible to do in an apartment building or near or
- 20:07Speaker 2: underground car park or something like that, because you can't
- 20:09Speaker 2: pull the car out safely. So it is a genuine issue.
- 20:12Speaker 2: There are very few instances of electric vehicle fires, so
- 20:16Speaker 2: it's not as if this is happening every day, but
- 20:19Speaker 2: when they do happen, it's obviously bad news. And I
- 20:22Speaker 2: think a lot of this is stemming from the fires Leaven.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Last night on the news, a family lost half their
- 20:27Speaker 2: home because an electric bicycle they were charging over an
- 20:31Speaker 2: either course.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Fire and took half the house out. Trev talked about
- 20:34Speaker 1: this in the podcast a couple of weeks ago. You question,
- 20:38Speaker 1: like where the charging cables coming from and all that
- 20:41Speaker 1: sort of stuff. That's the problem. There's a bicycles and scooters.
- 20:45Speaker 2: You don't know how they manufacture, You don't know what
- 20:47Speaker 2: safety tolerances they have, probably very low, given they're selling
- 20:51Speaker 2: them kind of anonymously, and I don't know who's actually
- 20:53Speaker 2: checking that is the government who knows. Electric cars I
- 20:56Speaker 2: think are a fast, safer alternative. But obviously an electric
- 20:59Speaker 2: car catch fire is significantly worse than a scooter catching
- 21:03Speaker 2: fire because it is a much bigger battery. So yeah,
- 21:06Speaker 2: look at you something to look at if you do
- 21:08Speaker 2: want to protect yourself if you buy an electric car
- 21:11Speaker 2: that has an LFP battery, So that is typically the
- 21:14Speaker 2: Chinese electric vehicles like the Tesla's, the BYD's, and that
- 21:18Speaker 2: the cheaper versions, they tend to not have a lithium
- 21:22Speaker 2: ion battery that has that thermal runaway property. These can
- 21:25Speaker 2: still catch fire and can still be hard to put out,
- 21:29Speaker 2: but they're not anywhere near as bad as a lithium
- 21:31Speaker 2: ion battery.
- 21:31Speaker 1: So would we have the same problem. It's going to
- 21:34Speaker 1: sound like a dumb question, but I'm used to it now. Yeah, fine,
- 21:36Speaker 1: go ahead, just like a real lie. We have the
- 21:38Speaker 1: same problem in hydrogen cars.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Well, hydrogen cars are slightly different. So with a hydrogen car,
- 21:44Speaker 2: it's you don't have that thermal runaway. So when hydrogen escapes,
- 21:48Speaker 2: it escapes quickly and it disperses quickly. So if you
- 21:52Speaker 2: do get hydrogen escaping, it's going to burn. It's not
- 21:55Speaker 2: a visible flame, but it will burn quickly and dissipate.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Problem with hydrogen is that if it makes its way
- 22:01Speaker 2: back into the tank, the tank is heavily pressurized. If
- 22:04Speaker 2: you then get ignition in the tank, then that's a
- 22:07Speaker 2: bigger problem because you have a huge amount stored in
- 22:09Speaker 2: this space and you can get a big explosion. But
- 22:12Speaker 2: there are a huge number of protections in place for
- 22:15Speaker 2: hydrogen vehicles, so they have leaked detection internally, so they
- 22:18Speaker 2: can one way valves for hydrogen escaping the tank as well,
- 22:22Speaker 2: so there was even in terms of car accidents. Toyota
- 22:27Speaker 2: had vision of them firing a m whatever gun with
- 22:32Speaker 2: some giant bullet at hydrogen tank ause they're multi carbon
- 22:35Speaker 2: layered tanks and basically it took them two shots in
- 22:39Speaker 2: the one same spot to penetrate the tank. So if
- 22:43Speaker 2: you can fire a giant military rifle at a tank
- 22:46Speaker 2: twice and it's still not coming.
- 22:48Speaker 1: From a guy who has a military car by the way, Yeah, correct,
- 22:52Speaker 1: what else you've got? There was still no explosion there.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Then I think they are significantly safer than what people
- 22:58Speaker 2: think of HydroD So so yeah, I don't know. It
- 23:02Speaker 2: is an interesting time, and it is worth keeping in
- 23:05Speaker 2: mind that when an internal combustion car catches on fire,
- 23:08Speaker 2: you literally have a fuel tank.
- 23:10Speaker 1: It has a huge source of flammable liquid.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Yeah, under exactly, So it is actually just as bad,
- 23:19Speaker 2: but it is easier to put out. The problem is
- 23:22Speaker 2: if you get an internal combustion car catch on fire
- 23:24Speaker 2: in a car park and there's evs next to it,
- 23:26Speaker 2: you can just see the compounding effect if they all
- 23:28Speaker 2: catch fire.
- 23:29Speaker 1: So yeah, it is. It is interesting.
- 23:31Speaker 2: So keen for your feedback on this. Contact at the
- 23:33Speaker 2: Drivers Show dot com dot au. Let us know what
- 23:36Speaker 2: you think about this. Do you think that this is
- 23:37Speaker 2: a problem. Would you buy an EV if you lived
- 23:40Speaker 2: in an apartment building? Do you support charging them at
- 23:43Speaker 2: work in inclosed spaces? Let us know what you reckon
- 23:46Speaker 2: the thing.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Of the I'll get rid of that, don't worry. Hey,
- 23:55Speaker 1: so Cherry's got a hot new accessory. I know you're
- 23:57Speaker 1: a big fan of it. It's got a little thorhammer. Yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 1: it was great.
- 24:00Speaker 2: We were testing the Cherry Tigo seven Pro what's called
- 24:04Speaker 2: Tigo seven that voice though, and I sort of opened
- 24:08Speaker 2: the center console and I'm like, oh, what's in this
- 24:10Speaker 2: little leather bag? I thought it was perhaps some I
- 24:17Speaker 2: opened it up and I'm like, oh, Gord, he's like
- 24:19Speaker 2: one of his toys in here. But it was basically
- 24:22Speaker 2: a hammer similar to what a juvenile in Queensland would
- 24:25Speaker 2: use just before they steal your car. It basically has
- 24:28Speaker 2: a solid tip on it and you just literally tap
- 24:33Speaker 2: it on glass and it will shatter the glass. And
- 24:35Speaker 2: then it's also got a seat belt cutter built into it.
- 24:38Speaker 1: It sounds like something from Trevor's bottom drawer.
- 24:42Speaker 2: So it's designed here just in case you are in
- 24:44Speaker 2: an accident where the car you can't get out, you
- 24:47Speaker 2: go straight to your center console and whip out the
- 24:50Speaker 2: safety hammer.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I kind of feel like if a car is supplying
- 24:53Speaker 1: that they might know something we don't do, you know
- 24:55Speaker 1: what I mean. It's like, you're the first car that
- 24:59Speaker 1: I can remember but apart from like one of those
- 25:01Speaker 1: little busses that you go on Bucks parties at that
- 25:04Speaker 1: come with an actual little hammer to bust out in
- 25:07Speaker 1: case there's a fucking accident. But think about it this way.
- 25:09Speaker 2: It's actually not a bad idea because if you're in
- 25:11Speaker 2: a serious enough accident where your power supplies cut off
- 25:15Speaker 2: and your car has electric windows, which is every car
- 25:17Speaker 2: on the market, so you have to smash a window
- 25:19Speaker 2: to get out. Yeah, smashing a window is hard to do,
- 25:27Speaker 2: so it is tricky to do, and if you are
- 25:29Speaker 2: stuck in a position where you need to get your
- 25:30Speaker 2: seat belts off as well. I mean that there are
- 25:32Speaker 2: a number of instances where this would be handy in
- 25:34Speaker 2: a Tesla. I mean not why in the back seat
- 25:37Speaker 2: you don't actually have an emergency release for the doors.
- 25:40Speaker 2: So in front seats you have emergency releases for the doors.
- 25:42Speaker 2: The back seat doesn't have any you have to well
- 25:44Speaker 2: it actually does, but you have to like remove some
- 25:47Speaker 2: carpet to find this thing.
- 25:49Speaker 1: If you're thinking, to the bottom is the dumbest stable
- 25:52Speaker 1: at all time.
- 25:53Speaker 2: So yeah, I can see why this would be handy
- 25:55Speaker 2: and perhaps something that Tesla could look at putting in
- 25:57Speaker 2: their cars.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Hmm, Well you could just call my ex girlfriend and
- 26:00Speaker 1: cheese some fucking break windows and shit all the time. Hey,
- 26:04Speaker 1: just quickly. I just wanted to get your thoughts on
- 26:07Speaker 1: Cadillac coming to Australia. Yes, because all they're sort of
- 26:10Speaker 1: bringing over here is a couple of evs, right yep.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I reckon it will be a complete waste of time
- 26:14Speaker 1: and money. And I'll tell you why.
- 26:16Speaker 2: So they're retailing out of Mauls, so it's where you
- 26:20Speaker 2: can buy them an online.
- 26:21Speaker 1: And they're bringing electric vehicles to Australia and not cool
- 26:26Speaker 1: looking ones, like they look all right, but they're not
- 26:28Speaker 1: like there, what's the one that everyone loves, the big Escalade. Yeah, no,
- 26:32Speaker 1: that's not coming.
- 26:33Speaker 2: So by the end of twenty twenty four, ittably the
- 26:34Speaker 2: Lyric crossover, so it'll be factory right hand drive. And
- 26:41Speaker 2: the reason I don't think it's going to work is
- 26:42Speaker 2: because the US dollar at the moment is completely screwed.
- 26:47Speaker 2: This is an expensive car in the US. It is
- 26:49Speaker 2: going to be very expensive here if you look at
- 26:51Speaker 2: how much they're charging for Corvettes, which are sort of
- 26:53Speaker 2: built in a similar fashion.
- 26:54Speaker 1: And also no one really knows or cares about Cadillac
- 26:57Speaker 1: in Australia. Well, also, no one's going to get on
- 27:02Speaker 1: that point. Nobody's going to get really the exclusivity or
- 27:06Speaker 1: the sort of brand image of a Cadillac, Like someone's
- 27:10Speaker 1: going to look at a Cadillac and go, you want
- 27:12Speaker 1: how much for that car? I've barely heard of really
- 27:15Speaker 1: that American car that my grandpa had. Now and they've
- 27:19Speaker 1: said here executives made multiple mentions of Cadillacs selling in
- 27:23Speaker 1: exclusive volumes. Hey, whoever wrote that? Pr shit girl, take
- 27:28Speaker 1: the rest of the week off, because that is brilliant.
- 27:30Speaker 2: This is this one though, a quote from one of
- 27:33Speaker 2: their executives as well, who said it's going to do
- 27:37Speaker 2: incredibly well here.
- 27:39Speaker 1: That is a quote that is going to date very quickly.
- 27:45Speaker 1: I love that. That's what he said, Like that's is
- 27:47Speaker 1: she She said, it's going to do very well here.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Thanks for that. Do you sound like Pat Cash doing
- 27:55Speaker 1: commentary at the tennis That was a really good shot. Thanks. Sorry,
- 28:00Speaker 1: it's just bad cash, just fucking give me the shoots lately, Hey,
- 28:03Speaker 1: pricing for the new Triton. So I thought, sorry, I'm
- 28:08Speaker 1: so sorry. No no, no, no you go, no, no
- 28:10Speaker 1: you go, because I was just going to say, what
- 28:13Speaker 1: have we got a little Pavlai? But you go right
- 28:18Speaker 1: into this conversation for here straight up pricing, so no, no,
- 28:23Speaker 1: you go, thank you, So I'll go.
- 28:25Speaker 2: So Mitsubishi Triton, there's there's a brand new model by
- 28:29Speaker 2: the time this goes to where I will have driven
- 28:31Speaker 2: it FII, but pricing is just lobbed. So it starts
- 28:35Speaker 2: at forty three six ninety for the entry level Glex
- 28:38Speaker 2: four x two. That's up three grand, and it caps
- 28:41Speaker 2: out at sixty three eight forty, which is up by
- 28:44Speaker 2: around seven thousand dollars for the GSR four by four. Now,
- 28:48Speaker 2: I thought they were going to go much harder with pricing,
- 28:51Speaker 2: as in I thought it was going to be a
- 28:53Speaker 2: whole lot more expensive than what it actually is. So
- 28:56Speaker 2: the fact that it caps out at just over sixty grand,
- 28:58Speaker 2: I don't think is the end of the world if
- 29:01Speaker 2: you have a look at where highlights pricing and range
- 29:04Speaker 2: of pricing has gone. So I think it's not as
- 29:07Speaker 2: bad as it could have been. It is still a
- 29:09Speaker 2: big jump for a vehicle that has changed but hasn't
- 29:13Speaker 2: changed a huge amount. So I'll be interested to see
- 29:16Speaker 2: what it's like to drive, what this new twin turbocharged
- 29:19Speaker 2: engine is like, and whether it feels like a big
- 29:22Speaker 2: enough improvement to justify the price what do you reckon
- 29:25Speaker 2: about the design?
- 29:25Speaker 1: I like this. I like this a lot. I think
- 29:28Speaker 1: it looks good. They've taken more of a sort of
- 29:30Speaker 1: a flat stance. It's starting to look a little bit
- 29:32Speaker 1: sort of that boxy American vibe about it. It definitely
- 29:35Speaker 1: looks tough. Yeah yeah, look even in the base like
- 29:38Speaker 1: it looks it doesn't look shit. Yeah, So look, I
- 29:42Speaker 1: don't know. I'll be curious to see how it goes.
- 29:44Speaker 2: The thing that they have to be careful of is
- 29:47Speaker 2: Chinese brands are cornering the entry level of the market.
- 29:50Speaker 2: They're pricing themselves really well. And if you look at
- 29:53Speaker 2: something like the Canon XSR comes with all the bells
- 29:57Speaker 2: and whistles, and that is just over fifty grand, a
- 30:01Speaker 2: little over fifty grand, So this is sixty just over
- 30:04Speaker 2: sixty grand, and it still doesn't have half the equipment
- 30:09Speaker 2: that the Cannon has. So you've got the Chinese at
- 30:12Speaker 2: the entry level of the market cornering on pricing, and
- 30:15Speaker 2: then you've got Ford and Toyta at the top end.
- 30:18Speaker 1: These guys are trying to sort of slip in in the.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Middle but sort of jack their price up a little bit,
- 30:23Speaker 2: and it's like you gotta be careful with that because
- 30:25Speaker 2: soon you'll have no point.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Of difference LDVT six sixty. Yes, they look great and
- 30:30Speaker 1: they're cheap, and they're cheap, and they're TechEd up yep,
- 30:34Speaker 1: five hundred meters as well, so more than this. So yeah,
- 30:38Speaker 1: I think that they just need to be careful.
- 30:40Speaker 2: They are the only ones with the ten ye warranty,
- 30:42Speaker 2: so I'll be interested to see how it drives, and that'll,
- 30:45Speaker 2: I guess, will dictate how it goes for them.
- 30:47Speaker 1: It's a good looking car and it's fitted out well.
- 30:49Speaker 1: I just hope this works. It just feels like Mitsubishi
- 30:53Speaker 1: have been on this decline and I remember jumping in
- 30:56Speaker 1: the Mitsubishi the Gero Sport recently, Remember jumping in there,
- 31:00Speaker 1: going fuck, what has happened to me? It's a bishy Yeah,
- 31:02Speaker 1: it was just old bits of shitty. You put it
- 31:06Speaker 1: in there. That's an holy bit of good. Yeah, interesting times.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Hey did you see the Porsche Panamyror? What do you think? Yeah?
- 31:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's one of those cars that I'm surprised it
- 31:18Speaker 2: sort of still exists. Yeah, not that many are sold,
- 31:21Speaker 2: but that platform will be the basis for a number
- 31:24Speaker 2: of electric spin offs as well.
- 31:25Speaker 1: So I can see why they've sort of put some
- 31:27Speaker 1: effort into it.
- 31:28Speaker 2: But yeah, it looks fine. I mean the old one
- 31:30Speaker 2: looked fine. I'm not really sort of hugely blown away
- 31:34Speaker 2: by it, but it looked nice.
- 31:37Speaker 1: TURBOI hybrid YEP nine hundred and thirty n meters talk
- 31:41Speaker 1: zero to one hundred and three point twenty three point three.
- 31:44Speaker 1: It sounds good.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Biggest issue with that car was always packaging, so the
- 31:48Speaker 2: boot was terrible.
- 31:49Speaker 1: It was hard to put anything in it. Back seats
- 31:51Speaker 1: were cramped.
- 31:52Speaker 2: So all of those numbers are great, but if you
- 31:54Speaker 2: still haven't fixed the core things with it, then I
- 31:57Speaker 2: don't really understand.
- 31:59Speaker 1: You know, the most is non looking Porsche that Porsche make. Yeah,
- 32:04Speaker 1: it's it is just a car built for a certain market.
- 32:07Speaker 1: It's like you put a kid in the back or
- 32:10Speaker 1: the dog and you've got a Porsche YEP. Pretty much.
- 32:16Speaker 1: I think Donna would sit in the back of that Porsche.
- 32:18Speaker 1: She'd be all over there. You would love it. You know.
- 32:20Speaker 1: When you see those cute little images of like the
- 32:23Speaker 1: bulldog sticking its head out the window, it's like Dodda
- 32:31Speaker 1: would just be like, is that me tiding over me? Face?
- 32:38Speaker 1: Now that's me Labbia parafly. Have you missed me? Absolutely not?
- 32:55Speaker 1: Partly Hey do you want to talk ev? No, Yeah,
- 33:00Speaker 1: let's do it.
- 33:03Speaker 3: The twenty twenty four V nine prices start from ninety
- 33:07Speaker 3: seven thousand dollars for the entry level model Area rear
- 33:10Speaker 3: will drive all the way to one hundred and twenty
- 33:13Speaker 3: one thousand dollars for the top spack GT line All
- 33:16Speaker 3: will Drive.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I'm not going to say too much about this other
- 33:20Speaker 1: than this is the shittest looking car I've ever seen.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Do not agree. I think it looks fantastic. It's horrendous,
- 33:29Speaker 1: and when you see it sort of driving at this
- 33:31Speaker 1: slow little stance, it just looks like a big, plotty
- 33:35Speaker 1: looking constipated hippo. I think it looks great. Did you
- 33:39Speaker 1: have the blue one, by the way, Yeah, it was
- 33:40Speaker 1: a matt colored matte blue ocean blue. That's the worst color. Like.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I even looked at it in the I think it
- 33:47Speaker 1: was like a gun metal gray. I thought the black
- 33:50Speaker 1: might kind of improve on this. No, the wheels and
- 33:52Speaker 1: it looked like bloody cam Art fry pants. Well, you
- 33:56Speaker 1: know the thing is with this car.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Whenever we drive cars, typically if it's new, people will
- 34:01Speaker 2: turn their heads and be interested in it when we
- 34:03Speaker 2: did our road trip to Sydney in the seven series.
- 34:05Speaker 2: It is such a polarizing design. I have never driven
- 34:08Speaker 2: a car that has turned as many heads as that
- 34:10Speaker 2: because it is just wow.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Everyone's like, what is that? The EV nine? Nobody cared, Ah,
- 34:18Speaker 1: nobody cared. It was so weird.
- 34:19Speaker 2: It was in the top speek trim in ocean blue,
- 34:22Speaker 2: that matte color. Nobody cared.
- 34:26Speaker 1: So I just found that really interesting for such a
- 34:29Speaker 1: polarizing car, just people weren't interested in it at all,
- 34:32Speaker 1: just based on my assessments. It's so terrible to look
- 34:36Speaker 1: at that. People will not look at it because they
- 34:39Speaker 1: will throw up a little bit in their mouth.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Well I think it looks good. So but let's talk
- 34:44Speaker 2: about the pricing. So it starts at just under one
- 34:46Speaker 2: hundred grand.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty much. One hundred and twenty grand to get
- 34:50Speaker 1: this thing on the road. Yeah, well in the top
- 34:51Speaker 1: speck is one hundred and twenty plus on roads which
- 34:53Speaker 1: you're gonna want. You don't want the GT line, So
- 34:56Speaker 1: it is. It is a lot of money. And look,
- 35:00Speaker 1: I don't know, it's one of those cars where.
- 35:04Speaker 2: The interior is beautiful, like they've done a really good
- 35:07Speaker 2: job with just making it look great.
- 35:09Speaker 1: That I'll agree with that two tone especially does look good.
- 35:12Speaker 1: It looks like something from a range Rover or something
- 35:14Speaker 1: like that. And then you look at the steering well
- 35:16Speaker 1: and you're not in a range Rover.
- 35:17Speaker 2: But we're talking here about a car that has one
- 35:20Speaker 2: hundred kilo what our battery in the top spectrium, in
- 35:22Speaker 2: the mid spectrium, and the best it will afford you
- 35:25Speaker 2: is five hundred and twelve kilometers of range top circle
- 35:28Speaker 2: do zero to one hundred and five point three seconds,
- 35:30Speaker 2: So it's.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Kind of quick. It's not bad, yeah, yeah, but it is.
- 35:34Speaker 1: It is a lot of money.
- 35:35Speaker 2: And when I sort of put this into perspective, so
- 35:37Speaker 2: the top speck seven seats one hundred and twenty grand
- 35:39Speaker 2: plus on roads, that is buying you a top spec
- 35:43Speaker 2: care Carnival which does your people moving stuff, plus another
- 35:47Speaker 2: car yep for fun on a weekend for the kid,
- 35:50Speaker 2: do you know what I mean? So I think that
- 35:52Speaker 2: while this had a lot of hype to start with,
- 35:55Speaker 2: I just don't know how much appeal there's going to
- 35:57Speaker 2: be here. There is a lot of appeal in the
- 35:58Speaker 2: entry level of the EV market as we're seeing globally,
- 36:01Speaker 2: the more expensive stuff from premium brands has just tanked.
- 36:05Speaker 1: There's pretty much zero off road capabilities in this as well.
- 36:09Speaker 1: It's not like you can take it on the beach
- 36:10Speaker 1: or anything like that, right, Well, I mean you could
- 36:12Speaker 1: if you wanted to. But yeah, could you could put
- 36:14Speaker 1: a fucking Volkswagen Beetle on the beach if you wanted to.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's like anything. Should you Probably not,
- 36:22Speaker 2: but yeah, I don't know. I just I'm in two
- 36:25Speaker 2: minds about this. I drove it and enjoyed it because
- 36:28Speaker 2: it was quiet, it had lots of room inside, a
- 36:31Speaker 2: third road wasn't as spacious as I thought it'd be
- 36:33Speaker 2: for adults. Text great, it does all the sort of
- 36:36Speaker 2: techy electric stuff really well.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Charging speeds are goods, et cetera, et cetera.
- 36:41Speaker 2: But if you look at it in the context of
- 36:44Speaker 2: the pricing and who was going to be buying this,
- 36:46Speaker 2: you're buying a car that weighs around two point seven tons,
- 36:49Speaker 2: so it is enormously heavy.
- 36:51Speaker 1: You can't really toe with it.
- 36:53Speaker 2: You can't really well if you can't toe with it,
- 36:57Speaker 2: but you just won't get any range. So for a
- 36:59Speaker 2: vicle it's this size. There are just so many other
- 37:02Speaker 2: things you could buy that will fit a wider brief.
- 37:05Speaker 2: You can buy a land cruiser that will do towing
- 37:08Speaker 2: off road. Seven seats, so.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Yeah, as a Sorrento got seven seats, Sarenha has got
- 37:14Speaker 1: seven seats.
- 37:14Speaker 2: It is a smaller vehicle though, this is on a
- 37:15Speaker 2: three point one meter wheelbase, so it is a big,
- 37:18Speaker 2: big old thing. So yeah, Look, I don't know, I'm
- 37:22Speaker 2: keen for anyone listening to this send us an email.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Contact at the driver's showed at Consday.
- 37:26Speaker 1: What do you think about this?
- 37:26Speaker 2: I mean one hundred and twenty grand or even at
- 37:28Speaker 2: ninety seven grand for the entry level that has a
- 37:30Speaker 2: smaller battery in less driving round.
- 37:32Speaker 1: And you're getting a pretty basic interior in that entry level. Yep. Look,
- 37:36Speaker 1: I came across hard because I just looks as subjective
- 37:40Speaker 1: and to me this looks just something else. But inside
- 37:44Speaker 1: I think it looks great. Rooming again, one hundred and
- 37:47Speaker 1: twenty I just feel like this has got this is
- 37:49Speaker 1: very fifty to fifty on ticks and crosses, and it is.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Worth just noting as well that one hundred and twenty
- 37:54Speaker 2: grand for this is cheap in a seven seat electric
- 37:57Speaker 2: vehicle sense. So if you were to pretend that the
- 38:00Speaker 2: world only had electric vehicles, now this is actually reasonably
- 38:05Speaker 2: priced compared to like.
- 38:06Speaker 1: A Model X and other stuff as well.
- 38:08Speaker 2: So if you were one hundred intent on buying an
- 38:11Speaker 2: EV for whatever reason, whatever your reasoning is, then this
- 38:14Speaker 2: is actually not bad value for money. But when you
- 38:17Speaker 2: look at it in the context of everything else that's
- 38:19Speaker 2: on the market, then it really starts to not.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Make a great deal of sense. I don't think this is.
- 38:25Speaker 2: This is this benefits from any subsidies either, because it's
- 38:28Speaker 2: too expensive. So it really does make you wonder who
- 38:31Speaker 2: is going to be buying it and in what volumes
- 38:33Speaker 2: will they bring it into the country, because that'll be
- 38:35Speaker 2: the other thing. I mean, we saw with the EV
- 38:37Speaker 2: six when that was launched, it was impossible to get one,
- 38:39Speaker 2: So what is this going to be like in comparison.
- 38:42Speaker 1: They did with the EV six. I quite enjoyed that car.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Well, they brought in a few, but you remember at
- 38:46Speaker 2: the time there was like a two year waiting list.
- 38:48Speaker 2: So they're now bringing in more of them, and Henda's
- 38:50Speaker 2: bringing in more of their stuff as well.
- 38:52Speaker 1: But yeah, should we read some questions comments, Questions you've
- 38:57Speaker 1: got mel This is a good question. This comes from
- 39:00Speaker 1: shout out to Marty. Oh, this is from Marty who
- 39:03Speaker 1: does a podcast called the Jizz Podcast. And guess who
- 39:07Speaker 1: I guess who was on it? Oh god, I know.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I thought we were going to be jizzing in a bucket,
- 39:11Speaker 1: but there was none of that anyway. Shout out to Marty.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Marty says, why does Paul complain about tesla's but he
- 39:18Speaker 1: drives one? Please help? Oh okay, but I don't complain
- 39:23Speaker 1: about them. Let's talk about your content. This week was
- 39:25Speaker 1: just a photo of you looking unimpressed in the back
- 39:27Speaker 1: of one, going ooh, the road is shooting the book
- 39:29Speaker 1: it is. I got into this going, oh, this will
- 39:32Speaker 1: be great.
- 39:32Speaker 2: I haven't been in the back of a Tesla before,
- 39:35Speaker 2: and about a minute into it, I'm like, holy shit,
- 39:37Speaker 2: this is terrible. There was no room in there and
- 39:40Speaker 2: the ride was horrific.
- 39:42Speaker 1: I was in a Tesla here and it wasn't too bad.
- 39:46Speaker 1: What sort of tesla was it? Model three? I don't know.
- 39:49Speaker 1: This one was shit. So how old was yours? It
- 39:53Speaker 1: was just a Model three. They haven't really changed much.
- 39:55Speaker 2: There's a new one coming that will hopefully fix the suspension,
- 39:59Speaker 2: but it was horrendous.
- 40:01Speaker 1: I still think that Tesla Model three is one of
- 40:03Speaker 1: the quieter out of all the evs, Like so many
- 40:07Speaker 1: evs are jump into and going, oh god, is a
- 40:09Speaker 1: bit fucking noisy in here?
- 40:11Speaker 2: Still, like the new one actually has acoustic glass and
- 40:15Speaker 2: an additional sort of noise reduction.
- 40:18Speaker 1: So I think it's advertised it. There's a there's a
- 40:20Speaker 1: great piece of advertising on their guess insta where the
- 40:24Speaker 1: windows are down busy traffic, then they put the windows
- 40:28Speaker 1: up and it's as quiet as anything. And I mean
- 40:29Speaker 1: sure they probably I bet that's not Yeah, I bet
- 40:32Speaker 1: that's not dufted. But but just on that, I'm not negative.
- 40:35Speaker 2: I just point out stuff that is shit about them,
- 40:37Speaker 2: and just like every other car, there is stuff that's
- 40:39Speaker 2: shit about them. And I'm not one of those Tesla
- 40:42Speaker 2: fanboys that just thinks the cars are absolutely the best
- 40:45Speaker 2: thing ever, which is what a lot of owners do.
- 40:48Speaker 1: So clearly they don't like it. Tough titties. That's the
- 40:52Speaker 1: Pavla Report. Thanks for joining us on the program this afternoon.
- 40:55Speaker 1: That's Pavla's opinions call us now coming up next to
- 40:59Speaker 1: the Gordon Program. Now, what really grinds your gar is.
- 41:03Speaker 1: I'd like to talk about Punt Road and that Montague
- 41:08Speaker 1: Street bridge. Why does every fucking bastard just crush into
- 41:13Speaker 1: that bridge? Okay, here's another question. Hydrogen. Oh okay, So
- 41:17Speaker 1: this person's asked a few questions. Yeah, okay, and it's
- 41:19Speaker 1: just literally pick one. Okay, hydrogen or EV for what
- 41:25Speaker 1: for a car? Well, I there's a rapid fire question.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Can stop stop EV because I can't fill the hydrogen anywhere.
- 41:32Speaker 1: So that's that's an easy one. I'm going to go hydrogen,
- 41:35Speaker 1: just to be where are you going to fill it?
- 41:36Speaker 1: I'll find places. I'll go to the Young Day headquarters
- 41:39Speaker 1: and get them to bloody put it out. That's what
- 41:42Speaker 1: I'll do. Sixty six Mustang or seventy Chevell? Probably the Mustang. Yeah,
- 41:48Speaker 1: probably the Mustang. Good question though, by the way, this
- 41:50Speaker 1: comes from Ben Logan. Shout out to Ben Logan. Oh,
- 41:53Speaker 1: this is a good one ninety two land cruiser with
- 41:55Speaker 1: the LS one five liter Yeah, the old one, yeah,
- 41:58Speaker 1: or the brand new one. The old one any day
- 42:00Speaker 1: of the week. The new one's boring. Agreed. When there's
- 42:03Speaker 1: a new episode in the works right now, yeah, as
- 42:07Speaker 1: we speak, literally going on we get a lot of
- 42:10Speaker 1: questions about merch, and I get updates from gas at
- 42:13Speaker 1: Machines Plus and they are in the works. He sent
- 42:17Speaker 1: me T shirts. So we've sent the first batch of
- 42:19Speaker 1: merch out, so this second batch is in the works.
- 42:23Speaker 1: And then once that arrives, look at that our mugs.
- 42:27Speaker 2: So yeah, once this batch is done, we will we
- 42:31Speaker 2: will make an announcement and get people some new merch,
- 42:34Speaker 2: send it out. I'm wearing my driver's show T shirt
- 42:37Speaker 2: at the moment. I wore it at SeaWorld. He when
- 42:40Speaker 2: I'm swimming with the dolphins?
- 42:42Speaker 1: Did you attract that was your majorash foundation thing? How
- 42:49Speaker 1: was that? How was did you swim with the dolphin?
- 42:52Speaker 2: I went to Seawell though, and it was ship Half
- 42:54Speaker 2: the stuff didn't work and the one ride I actually
- 42:59Speaker 2: got to go on without kids, which got finally got
- 43:03Speaker 2: to the front of the queue, sat down and it
- 43:05Speaker 2: broke down and there was a trainee running it and
- 43:08Speaker 2: he's like, oh, do.
- 43:09Speaker 1: You want to just sit there or come back later.
- 43:11Speaker 2: I'm like, well, I'm not going to sit here while
- 43:13Speaker 2: you fix this ride, and then it just sends me
- 43:16Speaker 2: off into space.
- 43:17Speaker 1: No offense, mate, but like, yeah, no offense kid, But
- 43:20Speaker 1: it doesn't take a lot to work out. I don't
- 43:22Speaker 1: really want to be sitting on a broken ride at
- 43:24Speaker 1: the Gold Coast because if track records anything to go by,
- 43:28Speaker 1: I'm fucking out.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so, I mean there was actually just very very
- 43:32Speaker 2: side pointing, very quickly. There was a thing on the
- 43:34Speaker 2: news last night about how they're going to implement more
- 43:37Speaker 2: safety protocols for carnival ride operators, and it just makes
- 43:42Speaker 2: you wonder, how have there not been safety protocols so far?
- 43:46Speaker 2: I just find that stuff bizarre. So anyway, see world, Yeah,
- 43:49Speaker 2: half the stuff didn't work. Would not recommend going.
- 43:52Speaker 1: But even the dolphins were fucking working. Half the dolphins
- 43:55Speaker 1: were sitting on the sideline smoking nothing to damn, I'm
- 44:02Speaker 1: not fucking twisting my fucking body or ouf what. They're
- 44:07Speaker 1: very good. Yeah, I just made a dolphin say, like
- 44:09Speaker 1: Louis the Fly, I'm gonna get out of here and
- 44:13Speaker 1: show ma. She when I bushed out of here, Ma,
- 44:16Speaker 1: I'm going to show the world. Meanwhile, your your side piece,
- 44:21Speaker 1: Donna was sitting there going, pamly, you want to say
- 44:24Speaker 1: a real paupose, Han, check this out. This is the fish.
- 44:28Speaker 1: John West rejected, what's that next question. Meanwhile, you're like,
- 44:38Speaker 1: oh my god, where's Donna gone? Oh? I know, follow
- 44:41Speaker 1: the yellow drip road, Benny. He wanted to know about Rivian.
- 44:46Speaker 1: I was always interested to know how Rivian were going,
- 44:48Speaker 1: as they looked great but seemed to be reliable. But
- 44:51Speaker 1: unluckily they'll get here, they might eventually.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Rivian's current business, or the money making business, is the
- 44:58Speaker 2: massive deal they struck with them on to supply electric
- 45:01Speaker 2: trucks for their delivery business. So I think that's where
- 45:04Speaker 2: they're probably focusing a lot of their efforts, plus delivering
- 45:07Speaker 2: all their customer cars before they sort of get into
- 45:09Speaker 2: right hand drive.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Well, I need to catch a flight to India. Oh yeah,
- 45:13Speaker 1: where are you landing, Chennai.
- 45:17Speaker 2: I'll be interested to see what the reception is like
- 45:19Speaker 2: when an Australian presents a passport after the World Cup.
- 45:22Speaker 1: I've heard did not go all that well, not that
- 45:25Speaker 1: I followed quickly. Is that a sports thing? I think so?
- 45:27Speaker 1: Yeah apparently So anyway, I'll leave my bat and ball
- 45:31Speaker 1: at home. If you enjoy this and hang on, don't
- 45:36Speaker 1: wrap yet. I don't know about India. Are looking forward
- 45:39Speaker 1: to in India? Tell me before we get Indian food
- 45:42Speaker 1: I love Indian food, so I've heard this and this
- 45:46Speaker 1: is a genuine thing. One of the countries on my
- 45:49Speaker 1: list is I would love to go to India. I
- 45:51Speaker 1: have been months before. I love to spend some time there.
- 45:53Speaker 1: I reckon it be awesome. Food was amazing.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Some of the sites, like the taj Mahal when I
- 45:57Speaker 2: went the first time, was absolutely stunning.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Like I was blown away with that.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Like you literally walk through You're in a queue for
- 46:04Speaker 2: ages trying to get in and then you walk through
- 46:06Speaker 2: this sort of gate area and then all of a
- 46:09Speaker 2: sudden it's there in front of you and it is enormous.
- 46:12Speaker 1: It is amazing. So I like to say it in
- 46:14Speaker 1: my laugh, just get through the gate. And then she
- 46:17Speaker 1: puts her spectacles on and she's like, oh, it's not
- 46:20Speaker 1: actually spectacles. What is this nineteen twenties? Didn't we just
- 46:24Speaker 1: put my machine eye glass? John? Yeah, India is awesome.
- 46:28Speaker 2: So I'm looking forward to that and I'll report back
- 46:30Speaker 2: on our next episode about how that went.
- 46:33Speaker 1: My advice is, don't drink tap water, no unless you
- 46:36Speaker 1: want to lose twenty kilos. Hey, I might actually give that,
- 46:39Speaker 1: give it a go. I think you should do some shots.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Do some shots come back, Skinny give the az epic arrest.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Just do a couple of shots of Indian bloody bathroom water. Yeah,
- 46:50Speaker 1: that'll be fun.
- 46:50Speaker 2: So yeah, So if you do enjoy this show, which
- 46:53Speaker 2: I think most people would, please leave us a rating
- 46:56Speaker 2: on whichever platform you're listening to.
- 46:59Speaker 1: So if it's spot, I hit follow, hit rate, share,
- 47:03Speaker 1: tell your friends, and if you do want to get.
- 47:06Speaker 2: In touch with us, contact at the Driver's Show dot

- 47:13Speaker 1: We get by the way, we get a lot of
- 47:14Speaker 1: d ms and they're hard to kind of tussle through,
- 47:17Speaker 1: and once you sort of get through to someone's conversation
- 47:20Speaker 1: and stuff like that, it's hard to if you if
- 47:21Speaker 1: you've got genuine if you've got genuine questions that you
- 47:25Speaker 1: want to know about, just email it straight straight there
- 47:29Speaker 1: and we'll get to it. Thank you.
- 47:31Speaker 2: But yeah, so looking forward to getting old Cadoagus back
- 47:36Speaker 2: on the show. So I think we'll give that a
- 47:37Speaker 2: crack for the next episode.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Basically, the plan is he's going to dress up as
- 47:43Speaker 1: Santa and True is going to come in and sit
- 47:47Speaker 1: on his knee and what he wants for Christmas. About
- 47:49Speaker 1: the first thing that comes up, Yeah, I don't think
- 47:52Speaker 1: Kdogan hasn't really come in a long time. I think
- 47:56Speaker 1: if he has, it's just dust. Thank you for listening, everyone,
- 48:03Speaker 1: goodbye here. We are sorry about the delay everyone. Paul's
- 48:13Speaker 1: been in surgery and gender reassignment and we will now
- 48:18Speaker 1: refer to him. What did the counselors say, we need
- 48:21Speaker 1: to call you. I believe it's Paulini. Yes, we're not
- 48:26Speaker 1: doing this.
- 48:28Speaker 2: This episode is going to be three minutes of actual
- 48:30Speaker 2: stuff and then half an hour of stuff we can't use.
