Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Right now to the juice the mood of the boardroom.
- 0:03Speaker 1: How did our executive fear? This is basically our business
- 0:07Speaker 1: leaders judging our politicians, and we all love a bit
- 0:09Speaker 1: of that, don't we. Erica Stanford came out on top
- 0:13Speaker 1: at number one of the choices here, four point zero
- 0:18Speaker 1: one out of five, Simon Brown, Nichola Willis, and Chris
- 0:21Speaker 1: Bishop up there too. Luxon came in sixth, Winston Peters seventh,
- 0:25Speaker 1: David Seymour He's done in twelve, sandwiched between Andrew Bailey
- 0:30Speaker 1: and Simon Watts. Overall, the sentiment seems to be quite
- 0:33Speaker 1: good from our business leaders for the direction that the
- 0:36Speaker 1: government is taking. And we're going now to Duncan Bridgman,
- 0:40Speaker 1: who is the managing editor of nz enmy Business, for
- 0:43Speaker 1: the mood of the boardroom. Dunkin, good morning, Oh, good morning, Ryan,
- 0:47Speaker 1: thanks for being with me. What is the mood?
- 0:51Speaker 2: Well, yeah, as you said, they have ranked the politicians
- 0:54Speaker 2: and that's one thing, but they've also given us an
- 0:57Speaker 2: insight into their own thinking around the economy, how they
- 1:01Speaker 2: think we are businesses will fare themselves, and the general
- 1:06Speaker 2: kind of business environment. So there's one hundred and three
- 1:09Speaker 2: Chief executives and a couple of years involved in this,
- 1:14Speaker 2: and we go out to them in August and September
- 1:16Speaker 2: with a range of questions. Now, as you touched on,
- 1:19Speaker 2: we took they gave us feedback on the cabinet the
- 1:24Speaker 2: government's top ranked politicians, and number one was Eric of Stanford,
- 1:30Speaker 2: as you mentioned that, with the score of four point
- 1:33Speaker 2: one out of five. Now that means that a very
- 1:37Speaker 2: impressive is five and not very impressive as well. So
- 1:41Speaker 2: she's obviously scoring well and the executives obviously liked what
- 1:46Speaker 2: she's doing in the education portfolio. Obviously back to basics
- 1:50Speaker 2: reform that's happening there. Christopher Luxen as Prime Minister, came
- 1:57Speaker 2: in at six with three points seven three, so above average,
- 2:04Speaker 2: but he is ranked six in the cabinet, so you
- 2:07Speaker 2: know we're looking at that. And as you mentioned, there's
- 2:11Speaker 2: some others in there, Chris Bishop Nicola Willis Judith Collins,
- 2:14Speaker 2: all scoring well. So it's a pretty positive look at
- 2:18Speaker 2: the at the top cabinet, right.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Interesting the comments surrounding this saying the message seeming to
- 2:26Speaker 1: be time to focus on the future, a positive future
- 2:30Speaker 1: rather than just bashing labor. Kind of put that behind you.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely there was a theme that came through. We've
- 2:37Speaker 2: had a year now of the new government and yes
- 2:41Speaker 2: they've had to what they describe as unwind a lot
- 2:45Speaker 2: of things that were put in place. So the business
- 2:48Speaker 2: community is saying, right, you've done that. Now is time
- 2:50Speaker 2: to take some bold steps to really spurdy the economic
- 2:55Speaker 2: growth that's needed. So I think there's definitely some uncertainty
- 3:02Speaker 2: there around the delivery that Crystopher Lax and his team
- 3:07Speaker 2: can can pull through. They're obviously making good headway on
- 3:11Speaker 2: some things, but but then there's there's other constraints such
- 3:15Speaker 2: as the things like cost blowouts and infrastructure projects. You know,
- 3:20Speaker 2: the other big sort of issues with the Duneden Hospital
- 3:25Speaker 2: and of course the very's infrastructure problems. So yeah, there's
- 3:29Speaker 2: a bit of uncertainly whether whether that delivery will come
- 3:32Speaker 2: through there.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, Duncan thank you very much for that. Duncan Bridgeman,
- 3:36Speaker 1: who's the managing editor of NZ in me business, Go

- 3:43Speaker 1: there's a huge well, it's quite fake. I could probably
- 3:46Speaker 1: make a sound if I dropped it on the desk.
