- Lucas: Hej hej, and welcome back to Learn Swedish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, I'm here with Luna. Luna: Hej! I'm ready to learn some new Swedish today. What are we covering? Lucas: Today, we're going to the grocery store. Specifically, we're going to buy milk. A simple, everyday situation. Luna: Buying milk. That sounds nice and practical. I've been to Swedish grocery stores, and it's good to know the right phrases. Lucas: Exactly. So here's our first phrase: Jag vill ha mjölk. Jag vill ha mjölk. It means 'I want milk.' Luna: Jag vill ha mjölk. That's a bit of a mouthful. Jag vill ha mjölk. Lucas: You've got it. Jag vill ha is 'I want', and mjölk is 'milk'. So, Jag vill ha mjölk. Luna: Jag vill ha mjölk. Okay, that makes sense. What if I can't find the milk? Lucas: Good question. You can ask: Var finns mjölken? Var finns mjölken? That means 'Where is the milk?' Luna: Var finns mjölken? Var finns mjölken? The 'en' at the end of mjölk makes it 'the milk'. Lucas: Exactly right. 'Mjölken' is 'the milk'. So, Var finns mjölken? Luna: Var finns mjölken? Perfect. And after I find it, I want to know the price. Lucas: Then you say: Hur mycket kostar det? Hur mycket kostar det? That's 'How much does it cost?' Luna: Hur mycket kostar det? That's a long one. Lucas: Let's break it down. Hur mycket means 'how much'. Kostar is 'costs'. Det is 'it'. So, Hur mycket kostar det? Luna: Hur mycket kostar det? I think I've got it. Hur mycket kostar det? Lucas: You've got it. And then you decide to buy one liter. You say: Jag tar en liter. Jag tar en liter. 'I'll take one liter.' Luna: Jag tar en liter. So 'tar' is 'take'? That's easy. Lucas: Exactly. Jag tar en liter. Luna: Jag tar en liter. And finally, I say thank you and goodbye. Lucas: Right. So you say: Tack, hej då. Tack, hej då. 'Thanks, goodbye.' Luna: Tack, hej då. Simple enough. Lucas: Let's put it all together in a little scene. Imagine you walk into a store and say: Jag vill ha mjölk. Luna: Jag vill ha mjölk. Lucas: And the staff says... well, they might say something back, but you ask: Var finns mjölken? Luna: Var finns mjölken? Lucas: They point you to the dairy section. You find it, and you ask: Hur mycket kostar det? Luna: Hur mycket kostar det? Lucas: They tell you twenty kronor. You say: Jag tar en liter. Luna: Jag tar en liter. Lucas: And then: Tack, hej då. Luna: Tack, hej då. Lucas: Perfect. Now you've bought milk in Swedish. Luna: I feel like I could actually do that. But let me practice all five phrases one more time. Lucas: Sure. I'll say the English, and you say the Swedish. Luna: Sounds good. Lucas: 'I want milk.' Luna: Jag vill ha mjölk. Lucas: 'Where is the milk?' Luna: Var finns mjölken? Lucas: 'How much does it cost?' Luna: Hur mycket kostar det? Lucas: 'I'll take one liter.' Luna: Jag tar en liter. Lucas: 'Thanks, goodbye.' Luna: Tack, hej då. Lucas: Excellent. You're ready for the grocery store. And if you've been enjoying these episodes and they've helped you make progress with Swedish, it really helps if you support the show. Luna: Yeah, absolutely. Even a small amount makes a big difference. You can do that at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Exactly. That keeps these lessons ad-free and coming. So, now let's think about another scenario. What if you want milk with a specific fat content? Luna: Ooh, I've seen 'lättmjölk' and 'standardmjölk'. How do I ask for that? Lucas: You could say: Jag vill ha lättmjölk. Or: Jag vill ha standardmjölk. Simple. Luna: Jag vill ha lättmjölk. That's 'low-fat milk'? Lucas: Exactly. Lättmjölk is low-fat, and standardmjölk is regular. So you can use that with the same pattern. Luna: Great. So I can say: Jag vill ha lättmjölk, Var finns lättmjölken, Hur mycket kostar det, Jag tar en liter, Tack, hej då. Lucas: Perfect. That's the whole transaction. Luna: Tack, Lucas. This was really helpful. Lucas: Tack, Luna. And to all our listeners, practice these phrases, and next time you're in Sweden, you'll be ready. Hej då! Luna: Hej då!
