- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's. Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes, it
- 0:11all starts. Right now, welcome back to the
- 0:15three O take presented by Chinook Cedry.
- 0:17This is episode 555. I'll be your host, Kyle Korne.
- 0:22I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:27Nate Casey. How are we, pal?
- 0:32Happy, happy Hall of Fame induction day.
- 0:35Good. Good group too.
- 0:38Good. Solid group.
- 0:41Good. Like we got a, we got a
- 0:43throwback in Dave Parker that like checks the box for the that
- 0:47generation and we are full swing in our generation, which sucks.
- 0:57Yeah, dude, we're getting, we're getting old.
- 1:01I was, I was sitting at church today and our pastor made a
- 1:04reference to Jose Canseco. And he, he goes, how many he
- 1:09goes? How many people in here know who
- 1:10Jose Canseco is? And like, nobody said anything.
- 1:15And yeah, I'm just having a raise in my hand.
- 1:17I'm like, I don't know who Jose Canseco is.
- 1:20And I'm like, that's that's not good.
- 1:22I mean, that's even, that's really before even our
- 1:25generation, really. But I'm like, Yikes.
- 1:28If yeah, if I'm the only guy in here that knows Jose Canseco, I
- 1:33feel like it's only going to get.
- 1:34Worse it is. It sure is.
- 1:38But hey, that's OK, you know That's OK.
- 1:42I asked you this. Recently while while we're on
- 1:45the topic, Hall of Fame, who would be because you said you
- 1:49haven't been right to guber sound.
- 1:51I haven't. Who would be the skewness?
- 1:55Question. Oh, OK, go ahead.
- 1:58Hold on. What?
- 1:59Well, because what did you think I was going to ask?
- 2:02Who would be the guy to like get you to go?
- 2:04And it would have been Jeter if if things would have aligned
- 2:07properly, but no I. I get it.
- 2:09God, we were in Boston when Cal was getting inducted and I was
- 2:12like, we're so close, but we couldn't go.
- 2:15But who? Who from from this point
- 2:17forward, who would be the soonest guy?
- 2:18I mean, I'm, I'm guessing Judge, but is there somebody sooner
- 2:22that would entice you to make your first trip to Cooperstown?
- 2:35It's hard to say, man. It's really hard to say.
- 2:41Like I'm trying to take off the the Yankee lens a little bit and
- 2:47think of like some other names that I've just fully, fully
- 2:50enjoyed watching. I mean, it's, it's really hard
- 2:57to say, 'cause you look at like some of the young guys right now
- 3:00and like, we're nowhere near like a Bobby Wood junior.
- 3:03We're 20 years at least. Yeah, from that happening.
- 3:08And who knows where life is at that point.
- 3:11Judge might make sense just because, you know, he's already
- 3:13in his 30s. I think it'd be really cool if
- 3:16somehow Judge and Harper ended up in the same class, you know,
- 3:20and like Mike Trout, like if those three could end up being,
- 3:25that would be a sick, sick class.
- 3:28That would be sick. But all things have to align on
- 3:30like them retiring at the same time.
- 3:33And obviously you're talking at least two of those three names
- 3:37being first ballot. I think Judge being like a a
- 3:43shoe in first ballot is still up for argument.
- 3:47But yeah, dude, that would be sick.
- 3:50I would say even take Judge out of that.
- 3:52I think if Bryce Harper and Mike Trout were in the same class, I
- 3:55think you and I would have to really consider just doing.
- 3:58I mean, it's two all time greats.
- 4:01Yeah, that's no, I like that answer.
- 4:03That's a good answer. I mean, same age, same, you know
- 4:06what I mean? Like where they're about the
- 4:08same place in in their career where it's like you can kind of
- 4:11see it. You can see that they're on the
- 4:13back half of of their playing career.
- 4:17Don't say that. Stop.
- 4:18Don't say it. But yeah, when our sweet young
- 4:20Prince makes it to makes it to baseball immortality, I will.
- 4:24I will be there. I will be there.
- 4:27Because that is like, that's literally our age.
- 4:30Like that is literally like, we were the same age we were in
- 4:33high school seeing that dude on Sports Illustrated.
- 4:36And it was like, it just is crazy to see that.
- 4:41Yeah, I think it's a fair answer.
- 4:45I'm glad you said somebody other than Judge.
- 4:47I'm glad you're able to set that aside.
- 4:50I mean, again, like it, we don't know.
- 4:52Like, I don't know if he's going to be like a absolutely first
- 4:57ballot Hall of Famer, like he's if he keeps on this trajectory
- 5:01and is able to like, keep it going.
- 5:04Yeah. But like, right now it's like
- 5:05the numbers are kind of low and like the window of success is
- 5:08really short just because of how long it took him to get up and
- 5:12and kind of crack the crack the big leagues.
- 5:16Anyway. We'll get on.
- 5:17We'll get on that later. Yeah, let's talk.
- 5:20Let's talk current events here. Let's talk what's happening in
- 5:25Major League Baseball right now and you talking about the Hall
- 5:28of Fame it it's very possible that this that this particular
- 5:32name could be could be walking through those gates.
- 5:37I know it's early, but from what we've seen thus far in such a
- 5:41small samples, this guy is this guy's a lock.
- 5:46At this point, we calculate what we've seen thus far out.
- 5:50I mean, we're we're talking a lock for the Hall of Fame.
- 5:53Nick Kurtz, the Nick Kurtz game. We'll call it one of.
- 6:02And this isn't, this is an exaggeration.
- 6:05This isn't hyperbole. One of the greatest offensive
- 6:08performances in a single game we've ever seen.
- 6:12Yeah, Oh yeah, game has ever seen forget like us and our
- 6:17generation like ever. Yeah, I don't think people
- 6:22understand that, that the four Homer game is more rare than a
- 6:28perfect game. And I get that there's like this
- 6:33like like this build up of tension that goes throughout 9
- 6:36innings of a perfect game. We're like, you get to that
- 6:40point in the 7th and you're like you're on the edge of your seat
- 6:42with every single pitch after and it's not the same as like a
- 6:45quick at bat that's just one and done.
- 6:48I like that it wasn't done in Sacramento.
- 6:50I feel like there would have been an asterisk next to it if
- 6:52it was done in a minor league ballpark.
- 6:55You know it's cool. But it would have been.
- 6:58Super cool. This is in a big league
- 7:00ballpark. And the fact that he was like a
- 7:03foot away from having five that double.
- 7:07That's not getting talked about enough like this close to five
- 7:11Homer that that it'd be the first ever correct, first ever
- 7:16by a rookie. He's essentially been up for a
- 7:20cup of coffee and we're talking about a guy who was inches away.
- 7:23That's why I love baseball, man. You, you see like you, you wake
- 7:29up, you either flip the game on the TV or you make your way down
- 7:33to the ballpark. There is a chance any game that
- 7:37you watch that you were going to see something that you have
- 7:41never seen before. And this game has been around
- 7:43for 100 plus years and we're talking about something that was
- 7:49so close to happening that has never been done.
- 7:52And to reiterate, it was done by a rookie inches away from a five
- 7:56Homer game, even though he wasn't able to get that 5th 6
- 8:01for six on the day, which in and of itself forget the homers, six
- 8:05hits in a game is a rare accomplishment.
- 8:07And the fact that he was able to do like with his with his
- 8:11profile, you don't necessarily think of Nick Kurtz maybe as a
- 8:15guy who's who's, you know, a guy that's capable of doing that on
- 8:21a given night. You're thinking, well, he's,
- 8:22he's going to be maybe. Like swinging miss in his game a
- 8:24little bit, you know? Right.
- 8:26But the fact that he was just dialed in this that that night.
- 8:306 for 6/4 homers total, 19 total bases. 18 total bases.
- 8:37What was the I didn't look up the fantasy points. 19 total
- 8:40bases. It was like AI think it was.
- 8:44It was like a 3335 point night. Insane dude.
- 8:48Dude, that's awesome. Speaking of fantasy, do you want
- 8:52to just come out and say that what that you had him rostered
- 8:59at one point is? That right?
- 9:00Hey, that's on me, man. You know, I had I had Nick Kurtz
- 9:06rostered, I jumped on it and you know, like I said, I'm pretty
- 9:12sure the day that he broke out was also the day that I dropped
- 9:15him. So that's fun.
- 9:18But we're talking about we're talking about sample size with
- 9:21with this kid six. It was a 66th game in the big
- 9:25leagues. Nobody else had done what he did
- 9:28in fewer than 425 games. That's crazy, man.
- 9:34It's, it is crazy. And it, it, like I said, one of
- 9:39the coolest elements of this. And our, our guy Dallas Braden,
- 9:43commentator for the A's, he had tweeted, he had tweeted it out
- 9:48like I think later that night or the next day.
- 9:50How you know, obviously he's been a part of, you know,
- 9:53history on a baseball field. But he he even said I saw what I
- 9:59saw and I don't think I'll see anything like it ever again.
- 10:03And I'm like. True man that is talks about how
- 10:05rare it is. This was the 20th time.
- 10:10It's been done 20 times in our game.
- 10:13That's it. And it was his 66th game.
- 10:17It it, it blows my mind again, going back to what I was saying,
- 10:22how you can just wake up and you've got this rookie who
- 10:25again, has basically been up for a cup of coffee and goes out and
- 10:29does this. And now like, like the the
- 10:33amount of of attention that I think he garnered for his, we'll
- 10:40call it household name ability. If, if you want to lump that
- 10:45into a word, he did wonders for that with just this single game,
- 10:50because there was so many people talking about it.
- 10:53And I can always, I can always sort of tell, you know, as as
- 10:57someone who who again, does social media for for a living
- 11:00and obviously, you know, does does our our social for this.
- 11:05I'm able a lot of times to gauge interest on a given player or a
- 11:09topic at any moment in time based on, you know, how well a
- 11:13certain post or video does on this thing.
- 11:17And the last I checked, the post on Facebook where I, you know, I
- 11:21was like the Nick Kurtz game and it was a screenshot of like
- 11:25Passan's tweet talking about, you know, the history of it.
- 11:29Last I checked it had been seen by like 7 million people and I'm
- 11:34like. That's just a.
- 11:36Singular post of ours, Like forget about that.
- 11:38Like think about all the other, all the other news making making
- 11:42its rounds on this kid. I'm, I'm genuinely very excited
- 11:46for for him, his future and and what this career could
- 11:51potentially look like. Because this isn't just some kid
- 11:54that stumbled into this accomplishment.
- 11:56Like he, his like, like we're talking about you go back to
- 11:59what his profile is. You go back to the attention
- 12:02that he had already garnered before he even made it to the
- 12:05big leagues. This kid is proving to you right
- 12:09now, granted, after a little bit of a slow start.
- 12:12He's proving to you that every ounce of attention he received
- 12:15prior to this moment was worth it, and I think it's only going
- 12:18to get more impressive as we move along.
- 12:22Dude, 100 percent, 100%. I like that talking about a big
- 12:27lefty sick nickname. Big Amish love the nickname yeah
- 12:33super cool the you know a big lefty to go oppo Taco for most
- 12:40of these, but to have like 1 nuke to right field where it was
- 12:45like not all of these were cheapies to the Crawford seats
- 12:48these through the Crawford box. This was like a tater to right
- 12:53field that I just everything went right, man.
- 12:56Everything felt right about this.
- 12:59And the last one being I, I remember watching it where
- 13:06there's like Astros fans in the Crawford box that's like blown
- 13:10away. Like they're like cheering to
- 13:12that point. Like when you see an opposing
- 13:15team and it's kind of again, that like that perfect game
- 13:18effect where like if it's in a different stadium, you even have
- 13:23those other fans be like, I'm here for baseball history now,
- 13:27but that's what I'm rooting for. You can kind of like you see
- 13:30these moments where like you put your fandom aside and you just
- 13:34put your, you know, that hat on and say, I'm a baseball guy and
- 13:37be like, check out the shop where you're like, this is what
- 13:41I'm here for. Like I there's so few moments in
- 13:45baseball, in sports that has you rooting for the game over your
- 13:52fandom. And it's genuinely sick to see
- 13:57those things. Really, really cool.
- 14:00What an exciting day. And you know, like, again, we've
- 14:04talked about this, the A's being somewhere.
- 14:07And then I feel like this chapter of like just getting out
- 14:10of Oakland and getting out of that Coliseum.
- 14:12And and I know that like the argument still there look like
- 14:17it's still the same owner. It's still the same nonsense.
- 14:19You're still going to have, you know, hurdles that you're going
- 14:23to need to overcome to like officially establish yourself.
- 14:26But these names, man, like, like we've seen these crazy plays
- 14:32from from Denzel Clarke and center and just incredible
- 14:36numbers from Mason Miller and the bullpen last year.
- 14:39Like, these names are starting to just get a little bit more
- 14:42recognized, a little bit more household.
- 14:45There is this group that's starting to come together.
- 14:48And I don't think Brent Brooker is likely going to be there much
- 14:51longer should he might even be shipped out before this
- 14:53deadline. But there's names that are
- 14:56bringing you to the A's. I don't think I could name
- 15:02anybody worthwhile with the White Sox now that Brian McMahon
- 15:06is gone, which we'll get into later.
- 15:08I don't know how many names I can name with the Rockies that
- 15:11are like this. Makes me want to come to the
- 15:13ballpark and lock in when I see them on the bump or at the
- 15:16plate. The A's are starting to
- 15:18accumulate more and more names like that.
- 15:23I mean, those names that you list off I just feel like would
- 15:25have to have amounted to more than I think, what, 17 games
- 15:32under 500 right now? Like what a disappointing
- 15:36campaign thus far and what I can imagine will only continue to
- 15:41be. I agree.
- 15:42I do agree. But again, like, let's let's get
- 15:45them out of Sacramento and let's let this new ballpark get built.
- 15:51And now you're going to see that core that's like in their prime.
- 15:56You're going to give Nick Kurtz four years and then see how good
- 16:01he is at that point. And now you're in this brand new
- 16:03ballpark and you right, you might truly have like an MVP
- 16:06candidate on your hand in a new ballpark in a new city, you know
- 16:11what I mean? Like there's, there's enough
- 16:13that's churning here that I think there's positivity coming
- 16:15towards the A's. You've heard about guys on the
- 16:18current A's team talk about how it affects their psyche.
- 16:23Like as a big League Baseball player, it's like you feel like
- 16:26you're almost coming out of a lower class when you have to,
- 16:31you know, do what you do every day in in an environment such as
- 16:36that. So I would have to imagine like
- 16:38once you can finally get your identity back, identity back
- 16:42like as a big league, like you're, yes, you're a big league
- 16:45player, there's no doubt. But like once you can surround
- 16:47yourself in an or with an environment that supports that a
- 16:51little more like the other 29 teams.
- 16:53I can only imagine that a team that again, as we approach the
- 16:57beginning of August and they're I think 17 under 500, I don't
- 17:01think that's going to be, they may not be, you know, a runaway
- 17:05for the division, but I don't think the narrative is going to
- 17:08be the same once we finally make the shift.
- 17:11And going back to The Who we talked about at the beginning of
- 17:14this topic, Nick Kurtz, like that's going to be a guy if he's
- 17:18around long term, that I think is going to play a central role
- 17:21in that. Yeah.
- 17:23And how cool is it to have like a, a core that is likely going
- 17:27to be in the prime saying this is the stadium that they built,
- 17:31This is the, you know what I mean?
- 17:32Like then and again, talking about that environment, like you
- 17:36go back to having a clubhouse, not having to walk through the
- 17:42outfield to get to the dugout, like having tunnels back there,
- 17:48being dropped off, having your own parking lot.
- 17:51Like these types of things are just you would think would be
- 17:57the norm. But for the current state of the
- 18:00A's, it's not. And you'll see what that turns
- 18:03into. I think there's a lot.
- 18:05There's a lot coming, man. I'm with Luis Severino on this.
- 18:09Like, I know people are looking at this like, oh, he's just
- 18:11whining. Like now I'm, I'm, I'm with you,
- 18:13man. I totally get the splits.
- 18:15I I'm, I'm with you. I feel for you.
- 18:17Big Luis Severino guy. Yeah, this one right here.
- 18:21I'm also a big, big, big big Nick, Nick Kurtz guy.
- 18:26And last thing I'll say on this big Amish, last thing I'll say,
- 18:30you know, speaking to the, the title of this episode, Nick,
- 18:33Nick Kurtz is the hottest hitter on the planet.
- 18:36I, I pulled it up over the last month.
- 18:38This isn't like the last week, the last two weeks even the last
- 18:41month. He's hitting 400.
- 18:45He's hitting 400 with 12 homers, 31 RB is and I got to I got to
- 18:52confirm the OPS here and an OPS of 1452 over the last month.
- 18:59This dude is the real deal. Speaking of deals, switch gears
- 19:06here. Talk trade deadline.
- 19:08Josh Naylor being acquired by the Seattle Mariners Thursday.
- 19:13So this was the day after this was the day after we recorded
- 19:19last, I believe, right? We recorded last Wednesday.
- 19:23We're up on here. I had Red Sox, you had Brewers.
- 19:30You had Red Sox. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:34No, it's all right. It's all right.
- 19:35You got you got the next guy. I think that we're going to
- 19:39talk, but Josh Naylor to the Mariners.
- 19:45I think this was while while we were both wrong in our
- 19:49predictions for Josh Naylor, I think this was one of the most
- 19:53frequented locations for Josh Naylor in terms of, you know,
- 19:58predictions elsewhere around the baseball community.
- 20:03So not too much of a surprise here.
- 20:05I think this was an addition that the Mariners needed to make
- 20:07to help out their offense. But again, like we talked about,
- 20:12their offense is a has it has been a little surprising.
- 20:15You know that for the long for at least the last few years,
- 20:19that's been the biggest hang up with this team is like.
- 20:21You've got you've got arms, you've, you've got guys that can
- 20:24get you, you know, deep in the games to give you a chance.
- 20:27But if you can't score runs, it doesn't matter.
- 20:29And it seems as though the guys that you know, they've brought
- 20:32in the guys even in house, you know, even Julio Rodriguez has
- 20:36has turned it around as of the last weaker, maybe even 2.
- 20:41But he looks like he made some adjustments at the break, which
- 20:43is cool. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:45So, you know, bring in a guy like Josh Naylor, give you a
- 20:48little bit of that edge, a little bit of that attitude.
- 20:50And, you know, I think this could do wonders for a team
- 20:53that's trying to reclaim what they lost earlier this year, so.
- 21:00I like that it was, I like that it was a gettable move.
- 21:03I like that they didn't sit too late in this, in this deadline
- 21:06process and have to compete with too many other teams, you know,
- 21:11on like waiting until Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday kind of
- 21:14thing just went and got them and it was like, it's a gettable
- 21:17thing. It's a rental.
- 21:19You're not fully committed to this name long term, but it is
- 21:22something that can immediately help your team give that line up
- 21:26depth, give some protection to Cal Raleigh.
- 21:28Like it's just checks a lot of boxes.
- 21:31I think he's yeah, I think he's a gamer.
- 21:35We've seen him in big moments in the postseason, just kind of
- 21:39locks in. He's definitely a very serious
- 21:44guy. I did.
- 21:46I he he's become more and more serious, especially over these
- 21:51last like two seasons where you're just like, you don't see
- 21:55him get overly riled up unless it's a big moment.
- 21:59So there's like this strange balance where he's not like this
- 22:02goofy, funny, going to be the light of the clubhouse kind of
- 22:05guy. He's just he's here to game and
- 22:07then he's going to show up in in certain moments.
- 22:09So I like what they're doing, man.
- 22:13The Mariners need some postseason baseball like they
- 22:15really do. And so I don't I hope they're
- 22:17not done with moves. I hope this is just the first of
- 22:20a couple more. But yeah, I like it.
- 22:23To your point about big moments, you know, if, if there's
- 22:27Mariners have to be on a very short list in terms of fan bases
- 22:30responding to to big moments like that, that place comes
- 22:34unglued. I mean that granted, the big
- 22:36moments have been few and far between with, you know, with the
- 22:39post season drop, but like when, when they when they've turned
- 22:41things on, when they have capitalized on those big
- 22:44moments, that place comes unglued.
- 22:46So I think if he can be a, a central part of those, if
- 22:49they're able to make a push here down the stretch that I think
- 22:53that match is going to that, that match is going to mesh very
- 22:57well. I'm really curious if they're
- 22:58still in the hunt for Geno Suarez.
- 23:00I'm I'm, I haven't heard how this move affected that because
- 23:04we've had, we've heard their name being in on him, but
- 23:08imagine that dude, like imagine if they were to go get that.
- 23:12And now you're talking about Julio Rodriguez, Randy Rosarena,
- 23:17Cal Raleigh, Josh Naylor, Geno Suarez.
- 23:19Like that is the line up depth that is absolutely terrifying to
- 23:25match with a really good rotation and a good back end
- 23:29bullpen too. That's a complete team.
- 23:33So I I'd love to see it. I'd love to see that.
- 23:39Honestly, the piece to the all of this is a guy we've already
- 23:42talked about. I, I would be so in on on the
- 23:45Mariners making a late push. If we can see Julio Rodriguez do
- 23:49what he's done this last week on a more consistent basis, because
- 23:55I don't, I don't no, I, I can't say that he's the straw that
- 24:00stirs the drink. I think there there's other guys
- 24:02in that lineup that have proven that that's that that's the case
- 24:06elsewhere. But if if he can be one of the
- 24:10straws that stirs the drink that that team becomes a lot more
- 24:17dangerous because again, it goes back to an offense that has
- 24:19already surprised maybe even themselves, like certainly
- 24:23surprised the rest of baseball. But maybe they're they're, you
- 24:25know, performing higher than even the expectations they had
- 24:28for themselves. And then you know what that
- 24:29pigeon is going to do. That team I would say is is
- 24:35going to be a World Series contender, but could be destined
- 24:38to making a little bit more noise in the post season then
- 24:40maybe we've seen in recent history.
- 24:43So that'll be interesting. But good, good addition for the
- 24:47Mariners. The Yankees have acquired Ryan
- 24:51McMahon and I believe what last night, Ahmed Rosario.
- 24:55Yeah. Tell me your thoughts.
- 24:59I mentioned this on our podcast. I think I also mentioned it on
- 25:08Shout Out Our Guy Henry and and Pete doing it for their Phillies
- 25:11podcast, but I bounced over there to do a little preview for
- 25:16this series. Yeah, a little plug for for
- 25:18Henry and Pete beyond the bank. If you're interested in Phillies
- 25:22talk, go check them out. I got a good, good, good product
- 25:25going on with those. Guys, the Yankees don't need
- 25:29offense. They didn't need offensive help.
- 25:32Now, again, this is my discussion pre whatever's
- 25:36happening to judge, which we'll get into here in a minute.
- 25:38But they needed to solidify their defense, man.
- 25:43And it's been real shaky, really bad.
- 25:48We saw on the grant that, yeah, that's perfect example exactly
- 25:54what they have been that needed to happen.
- 25:58And Ryan McMahon, Gold Glover at third, incredible play
- 26:03immediately in his first game. And you kind of take what you
- 26:08get with the stick. Like, I'm not worried about
- 26:10like, he can hit 789 and hit two 3240 and that's fine.
- 26:16But that short porch in right field, he may run into some.
- 26:20You never know what the uptick is going to be from somebody
- 26:23leaving the Rockies to go immediately being slapped into a
- 26:27contender. And there was like numbers
- 26:31eerily similar between him and DJ Lemahieu, like very similar
- 26:38numbers of where they were at production wise.
- 26:41And we saw what DJ did his first couple years in the Yu too.
- 26:44So best case scenario, we get that.
- 26:47But you have a guy that again, Cashman likes to go and get
- 26:52controllable guys. He didn't love rentals, so he
- 26:54didn't love the the the price tag that was attached to a Gino
- 26:59Suarez and again a rental. And again, they didn't need
- 27:03offense. They needed an upgrade
- 27:05defensively. So they went and got that.
- 27:08Ahmed Rosario I don't think moves the needle as much for me,
- 27:12but is a very solid piece, can play almost anywhere on the
- 27:16field, can start giving Anthony Volpe days off at shortstop,
- 27:20which is very much needed. And another one, another one.
- 27:28So I think this definitely kind of kicks Oswald Peraza out of
- 27:35the mix and starts to just give some depth on the bench.
- 27:42Some right-handed stick that hits hits lefties pretty well,
- 27:46which was also needed. So I like the moves, man.
- 27:49It's not sexy. But like, this is what hopefully
- 27:54starts to get things turned around, even though it's been a
- 27:56miserable showing against the Phillies this weekend.
- 27:59I don't I'm I'm in a dark place. When can I put you on the spot
- 28:04here? When when is the last time?
- 28:07And I'm not this isn't a bit. I'm not like trying to, you
- 28:11know, lean into the anything. But it like, when is the last
- 28:15time the Yankees brought in a guy via trade where you know,
- 28:22you talk about like sexy moves like I'm.
- 28:26Thinking. No, not even, not even not even
- 28:30the the name, like the sexiness of the name, but like
- 28:33performance. Like when, when did, when's the
- 28:35last time the Yankees brought in a guy via trade where they
- 28:39didn't sort of, you know, kind of get forgotten about where
- 28:42it's like, well, this guy, you know, he, the, the Yankees were
- 28:47justified in bringing this guy over from, from wherever they
- 28:50brought him in from, because I mean, look at what he was doing
- 28:52over there. But I feel like for a lot of the
- 28:54guys that the Yankees bring in, they come over here and then
- 28:57they sort of kind of, you know, get lost in the limelight a
- 29:00little bit or they, you know, they shuffle to more of a
- 29:04platoon roll or they shuffle to more of a, a depth piece or
- 29:07something like that. When's the last time?
- 29:10And you know, former Yankee, a guy that I think of like CC
- 29:13Sabathia when he gets when he gets dealt to Milwaukee, like,
- 29:17you know. Like you knew you're getting a
- 29:21top tier starter. You knew who you're getting and
- 29:23he lived up to it. And and that like, that's,
- 29:26that's kind of the guy that I'm thinking of it.
- 29:27When is the last time the Yankees brought in a guy like
- 29:30that? Well, I mean, I I think the
- 29:33right button was pressed by bringing in Devin Williams.
- 29:36I think that was like, that was a smart move.
- 29:38Like it all on on paper, that should have been a no brainer.
- 29:43And then all of a sudden it kind of turns into this like I think
- 29:47there's there maybe not evaluating these guys correctly
- 29:50on if they can handle New York. Right, right.
- 29:54And that's why I'm asking because like it there, there.
- 29:56I don't know what it is about the Yankees, but it's like.
- 29:58There's there's something off. There's something off right now.
- 30:02Yeah, the second these guys put the pinstripes on something,
- 30:05it's like the the the Space Jam, the Monstars thing.
- 30:08Like the second they put the pinstripes on something,
- 30:10something happens. There's something off, there's
- 30:13been something off with their moves for the last few years.
- 30:18Like I going back before that, I as via trade, not signing, I'd
- 30:25probably say Stan, which is a while ago Satan to me with as.
- 30:33And I don't think Stanton gets enough credit for how he's
- 30:35handled like the media and like the the pressure and like he's
- 30:40hurt all the time. He does have really rough
- 30:43stretches, but he's incredible in the postseason.
- 30:45He's lived up to big moments. I I think he's absolutely
- 30:49delivered being a Yankee, but he's always been criticized and
- 30:54he always handles it really, really well.
- 30:56Yeah, it owns up to it, has accountability with it.
- 30:59I would say that's the last time they really hit on a trade.
- 31:05And the Devin Williams one is still kind of up for up for
- 31:08discussion. And again, he's said to be a
- 31:10free agent this offseason, so. Why am I blanking that the Stand
- 31:15was a trade as opposed to a Yep, a signing?
- 31:18Yep. OK, yeah, that tracks.
- 31:22That was the that was the whole argument of, you know, Jeter
- 31:25being in Miami and like collusion kind of thing of
- 31:29shipping him out for a bag of chips.
- 31:32Dude, that's. Going that I mean, we still got
- 31:34a little ways to go, but we're coming up on a decade since
- 31:36that. By the way, 20 set December of
- 31:392017. Crazy.
- 31:41Yeah. It's amazing.
- 31:43Any who's. Yeah.
- 31:46So the Yankees with a couple moves thus far.
- 31:48We'll see what else they've got up their sleeve.
- 31:51Randall Grichick end of the Royals.
- 31:56I don't know. I don't have really much to add
- 32:01on on this particular move I the Royals.
- 32:03Are Adam, Adam Frazier from? I think that was like one of the
- 32:07first moves anyone did, right? Yeah, Adam Frazier's well, seems
- 32:14like a a lateral move, if we're being honest.
- 32:17I don't. I don't really know.
- 32:22I, I think everyone's a little confused.
- 32:24I mean they're. And some depth I guess.
- 32:26They're 4 1/2 back in the wild card.
- 32:29I'm not out on the Royals, but I just wonder like if the Royals
- 32:34are behind closed doors out on themselves, you know what I
- 32:37mean? Like because there's no way that
- 32:40you saw this year going the way that it's gone to this point.
- 32:44Of course not, but why are they buying right now?
- 32:46That's what I'm saying. You've kind of had to blow up
- 32:49you, you know, your whiteboard plans that you probably had a
- 32:52you've you've probably had in place since February, January,
- 32:56where it's like, OK, this is we're anticipating being at this
- 33:00point in the season once we approach the deadline and that
- 33:03it almost certainly has not matched what they came into the
- 33:07season hoping would happen. So you're kind of having to work
- 33:13on the fly here if you're the if you're the Royals, where it's
- 33:15like, OK, we're kind of in this tricky position where it's like
- 33:18people are chalking us up as maybe light sellers or some, you
- 33:22know, some are some even have the expectation that we should
- 33:25be heavy sellers because of how lackluster or like just on
- 33:31serious baseball we've been playing.
- 33:33So I I don't know the, the Royals are in a tricky spot.
- 33:36And going back to what I said, I'm not out on the Royals yet.
- 33:39I kind of AM. Well, I mean the, the, you know,
- 33:43with the way that, well, I mean, the tigers, we'll, we'll get in
- 33:46the tigers, but they're, they're five and.
- 33:48Five in the last 10, they're three games under 500.
- 33:51They're 8 1/2 back in the division.
- 33:53They're 4 1/2 back in the wild card at the time of this
- 33:56recording. It I, I'm not saying 4 1/2 is,
- 34:00is outlandish to come back from in the in the wild card scheme
- 34:05of things, but like scheme of things.
- 34:07That's not a that's not a phrase, Stan.
- 34:09I don't know. I don't know what I'm saying.
- 34:11Yeah, scheme of things. Yeah.
- 34:12Scheme. Yeah.
- 34:14I think I, I just don't see them better than I mean, you look at
- 34:18who's above them. I don't see them better than the
- 34:21Yankees, the Mariners, the Red Sox.
- 34:24I don't see them better than the Rangers, the Rays.
- 34:30I think they're comparable to the to the Guardians.
- 34:37I I just, I don't see them being able to climb that many teams to
- 34:41fight for a spot. I think you're in this position
- 34:45to sell on a Seth Lugo have the conversation of selling for the
- 34:52right offer on Pasquantino, which is, is in the mix.
- 34:56Is, is in there. I mean, Jonathan, India has not
- 35:00lived up to what you, what you brought him in for and provides,
- 35:06I think positional depth and value to other teams.
- 35:09Like I, I think there's offers to be had for him.
- 35:13You can sell those things and also kind of just still kind of
- 35:17turn a corner and say here's the new chapter that we're rolling
- 35:20into. I just don't understand why
- 35:25you're bringing in guys that are like you're forced to give ABS
- 35:31to like you're forcing yourself to give ABS to these guys unless
- 35:36you move some of these other names.
- 35:38What's the point for what it's? Hard to say.
- 35:45Why give up prospects for that? You know, no disrespect to those
- 35:50guys, but like, we know what Randall Gryczyk is.
- 35:55We know what Adam Fraser is. They're not something that is an
- 36:01immediate need for the Royals. Just doesn't make sense.
- 36:07Lateral move. Flip them.
- 36:09I don't know, maybe for the first time ever, we just see
- 36:11guys like, hey, don't even show up to the stadium, by the way,
- 36:14because we're going to ship you out of here again.
- 36:16I don't know. I mean, we never see that, but
- 36:18it's just like, I, I'm confused with the Royals, that's all.
- 36:23An AO Central counterpart to the Royals, the Detroit Tigers.
- 36:27We need to, we need to have a discussion about the Detroit
- 36:30Tigers. What is happening in the Motor
- 36:34City right now, Nate? They have lost 12 of their last
- 36:3713. It's baseball season.
- 36:42It's over the last man. Over that span, over that span
- 36:47of 13 games, they've been outscored 89 to 33.
- 36:52Over that 13 game span, they have a team OPS of 569, which is
- 36:57the worst in baseball. Over that span, even worse than
- 36:59the, I mean, worse than baseball, so obviously worse
- 37:02than everybody, but notably worse than the Pirates, the
- 37:06Nationals, the Astros are actually in that mix as well.
- 37:09Over that span, the Mets, Dodgers, Rays, Red Sox, Giants,
- 37:12Rockies team ERA. Also worst in baseball.
- 37:17Over that span, 683 worse than the Rockies, famously known for
- 37:25their high eras, worse than them right now.
- 37:29So doing it or not doing it, I should say on either side of the
- 37:35ball, vibes are low. I saw a tweet the other day that
- 37:39sort of, I, I think summarized for summarized what most Tigers
- 37:43fans are feeling where it's like you, you play up until this
- 37:48point, about 90% of the best baseball you've seen in Detroit
- 37:53in some time. And now you act as, as though
- 37:57you've, you've never played baseball before and that you
- 38:00have 0 interest in making it to the postseason.
- 38:03It's like that's, that's kind of, that's the brand of baseball
- 38:06they're playing right now. So like we just we just talked
- 38:09recently about how the Dodgers were going through a a similar
- 38:12skid. But.
- 38:17Like with the Tigers, why? Like why now I, I'm, I get, I, I
- 38:22understand that every, every team you're, you're not immune
- 38:26to going through a, a skid or even the lengthy skid like
- 38:29they're on right now. Again, 12 out of the last 13.
- 38:32No team is immune to that. But I think there are certain
- 38:37teams that are built to maybe be a little more skid proof, if you
- 38:45will, like, I just don't know. I don't know what holes the
- 38:49Tigers have that are. So you know.
- 38:55Yeah. Large that would allow something
- 38:57like this to happen. Yeah, I don't know either
- 39:01because like, they haven't been holes so far, so it's kind of
- 39:04strange, but it kind of makes you wonder.
- 39:08I mean no disrespect to these names, but like Glaber Torres,
- 39:15Javi Baez, like we, we've kind of known who they are to this
- 39:18point in their career and like they had somewhat of like a
- 39:23resurgence and, and still are having a good year.
- 39:27But maybe there's just a little bit of some coming back down to
- 39:30earth that's involved there. I think I saw that.
- 39:34Well, the guy activated him. Let me let me double check just
- 39:40before I speak here. Think they activated Carrie
- 39:44Carpenter today. So there's a little bit of some
- 39:47outfield death that's coming back there.
- 39:50I I think this is strangely good timing because you hate to see a
- 39:59team that's going into the deadline that just says we're
- 40:03good. I believe in this group.
- 40:06I feel like no matter how successful you have a season,
- 40:09you're having like you almost want your team to say hey.
- 40:11Let's still make sure, you know, we're plugging holes here at the
- 40:14deadline and, and doing the right moves.
- 40:17And I hope this brings them to a little bit of a realization and
- 40:19say, hey, like every team has holes.
- 40:22Let's just make sure we take care of those at the deadline
- 40:24and not flounder here entirely. So it's like, it's almost like a
- 40:29good timing to have a little bit of a scuffle because it's like
- 40:32a, a realistic, let's come back down to earth and make sure that
- 40:37we solve this issue quickly. That's a great point.
- 40:40But the good news is that they've got massive lead in the
- 40:42Central and they stacked up a ton of wins and that like huge.
- 40:46You don't have to panic here at the deadline.
- 40:49You're not desperation mode to hold on to this lead.
- 40:53You have a good lead. Let's just not, you know, give
- 40:56up the farm to get this done. It's a great point, Nate.
- 41:01Thanks man. It's a great point.
- 41:07I know you don't want to talk about it, but we have to.
- 41:10Aaron Judge hitting the shelf with a flexor strain in his
- 41:14right elbow. This is a theme that's become
- 41:19all too common, my friend, with with with your beloved Yankees.
- 41:23And just a lack of awareness around what what's happening,
- 41:28what needs to be done when it comes to the health of their
- 41:34players. I don't know, you know, I mean,
- 41:39injuries happen. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not naive
- 41:41to that. But you've taught you this is
- 41:44something that you've brought up, you know, unprompted before
- 41:47when when guys get hurt, guys are rehabbing, guys are being
- 41:53evaluated for injuries. There just seems to be something
- 41:57with the Yankees medical staff that doesn't seem to click.
- 42:00And I'm not I'm not pinning this on the Yankees medical staff in
- 42:03this particular instance, but it is there's there's something to
- 42:07be said for the fact that it took, I correct me if I'm wrong
- 42:12here. It took judges grimacing on Yes
- 42:17Network on the broadcast to be seen for this to come to light,
- 42:22that, you know, there could potentially be something a
- 42:25little more serious here. Days later.
- 42:28Is this a lack of communication? Is this medical malpractice?
- 42:34Like what is happening? I, I, I feel like the Yankees
- 42:37for some reason just cannot figure out how to, you know,
- 42:41with the resources that they going back to our conversation
- 42:44earlier about, you know, being a big league team and having the
- 42:46environment and the resources. The Yankees are not hurting for
- 42:51any of those things, but yet they they can't seem to, you
- 42:56know, handle these things efficiently.
- 42:58What's happening? I had.
- 43:00No idea. I really don't.
- 43:03I really, really don't kick me when I'm down, though.
- 43:06This team has sucked recently and I would say recently it's
- 43:10been like six weeks of sucking. This hurts, man.
- 43:14I am thankful that it's just a flexor strain.
- 43:18I'm thankful that, you know, there's no TJ that's required
- 43:23because that would have really did me in pretty pretty, pretty
- 43:26good. I would have been in a dark
- 43:28place, but like, I don't understand.
- 43:31They have had like a a lot of like a lot of elbow injuries to
- 43:36position players, which is strange.
- 43:43I don't know. As far as the delay goes,
- 43:46there's probably a little bit of a.
- 43:54Tough it out mentality just, you know, like, you know, judge
- 43:58being it's a former football guy and just being like, no, like
- 44:01we're good. I'm going to tough it out.
- 44:02I'm fine. And then it's also like it, you
- 44:04know, obviously this team needs me more than most teams need
- 44:08people. I got to stick it out.
- 44:12I got to I got to play through it and I I'm not going to blame
- 44:16the delay on on the medical staff or or the team, but I
- 44:24don't know, man, it's really, really, really hard to say.
- 44:28I don't know where I'm at with this.
- 44:30Sounds like you're going to see Stanton in right field for the
- 44:35next week, week and 1/2 on and off because didn't used to be
- 44:45didn't used to be, which sucks. You go back to Stanton in in a
- 44:49Marlins uniform bro was lighten it up in right field I.
- 44:53Mean sadly that's that's lifetimes ago at this point.
- 44:56That's what they do. That's just kind of what they
- 44:59do. I don't know.
- 45:05He's going to have to DH for a while.
- 45:07I'm glad that it's a 10 day, not a 15 day.
- 45:09That makes me feel there's barely any Silver Linings in
- 45:13this. But I'm trying to find him where
- 45:15I can. I'm trying.
- 45:20Talking about Silver Linings, let's let's close the book here.
- 45:29Silver lining for for the A's broadcast that you know, we've
- 45:33got got a little bit of a little bit of a sense of humor, you
- 45:37know, given given what happened what last night was it did we
- 45:42did we figure out I I can't remember was it last night the
- 45:44night before the broadcast call on a Lawrence Butler home run.
- 45:50I think I've got I'm hoping this works.
- 45:52Let's hope this that this works. Let me play this clip for you 1
- 45:57two pitch high in the air deep to right.
- 46:01That ball is. Foul.
- 46:07We're gone. That ball was absolutely
- 46:13launched. Law Dog closing him up at the
- 46:16dish. He knew it off the bat, it was
- 46:19just a matter of how far he knew he got it.
- 46:30That's crazy. Just.
- 46:31Leaving, just leaving Dallas Braden hanging.
- 46:34Just say. Hey, our guy needs.
- 46:36You to salvage this because I have nothing left to say.
- 46:38Our guy, no. But I mean, going back to the
- 46:42silver lining here, you know, it was Chris, Chris Carey, he he
- 46:48came out with a tweet apologize after after the game, he said
- 46:51totally lost it in the lights. No excuses, unfair to Butler and
- 46:54our fans that I messed it up as badly as I did.
- 46:57This is completely and totally on me.
- 46:59Wish I could have it back, but that's baseball.
- 47:01I apologize. We'll be better tomorrow.
- 47:02Silver lining for some accountability.
- 47:04You didn't have to like, he really didn't have to like.
- 47:07It really is not that big of a deal, but you don't.
- 47:08Even have to apologize. No like it, you know what
- 47:11happens but but it's a. Hard job by the way, but it's I
- 47:15don't think people give it enough credit.
- 47:16That's not an easy job, but Dang, call the weak.
- 47:24If we could give it a negative, I would give it a negative.
- 47:27I I'll give it a .1 out of 10 strictly because of Dallas
- 47:32Braden somehow managing to salvage it kind of and then also
- 47:38saying it wasn't it was, it was a matter of how far not it was
- 47:43like, you know what I mean? Like fair foul was never in
- 47:47question, but it was just how far will it go?
- 47:49He knew it off the bat, like you know what I mean?
- 47:51Like I don't know. But the fact that you can't, you
- 47:56just say. Foul.
- 48:01We're gone. Like what you can't.
- 48:05There's no recovery there. Tough Man .1 out of 10 for Call
- 48:10of the Week. That's tough.
- 48:13Speaking of homers, Cal Raleigh reached the 40 Homer mark last
- 48:18night. Huge, huge benchmark for for the
- 48:25Mariners catcher. I don't think I realized if, I
- 48:30mean, if we're going to keep it, keep it a buck.
- 48:34I don't think I realized how closely Shohei was breathing
- 48:38down his neck. You know, I thought, I really
- 48:40thought this was like a Judge Raleigh kind of race.
- 48:43And then as I think we, I, well, I think what it was, was that
- 48:47barrage that Shohei went on in the last week or two where he
- 48:51had. 5 or like 5 and 10 games or something.
- 48:54Like that or it was like 6, like 5 and four games or five and six
- 48:58games or or something like that. So I think that's what really
- 49:01catapulted him back into the swing of things here.
- 49:03But Shohei just two behind Cal but even still Cal Raleigh first
- 49:09of 40 and he did that on July 26th so 40 before August is
- 49:16crazy. Yeah.
- 49:17But we'll we'll see how that shakes out.
- 49:21What do do you know? You may have not know off the
- 49:25top of your head, but have you seen anything recently how that
- 49:28tracks the judges year? I don't.
- 49:31I'm like a. Comparison.
- 49:33I mean I. Not this year, obviously.
- 49:39He's like this, you know, two years.
- 49:41Yeah, yeah. I don't know, I.
- 49:45Haven't seen anything to to compare the two, but yeah.
- 49:52It's cool to see, man. I, I think I just hope he keeps
- 49:56going. Like the guy's a workhorse.
- 49:58Like he doesn't doesn't take games off.
- 50:02I think it's a good thing that they have Mitch Garver that can
- 50:04slide back there and catch. But like he did that, that
- 50:06doesn't happen a ton. And especially if you're making
- 50:11more offensive moves at the deadline, like that DH spot is
- 50:14going to need to clear up. He's just been insane.
- 50:19I hope he stays healthy. I hope he being a catcher, he
- 50:23doesn't, you know, suffer from any fatigue moving forward.
- 50:26Like I hope he keeps this thing rolling.
- 50:29It'd be sick, dude. Like you see a catcher pushing
- 50:3260 by the end of the year, like that's insane and super
- 50:38impressive. We're.
- 50:40Also this thought just randomly came to me.
- 50:42We're do we? It's been some time.
- 50:45I feel like since we've had a catcher hold the place of like a
- 50:49favorite player for kids, like I, I need the Cal Raleigh lore
- 50:55to continue because we need this guy.
- 50:58We're like, we need to see more and more kids walking around and
- 51:01yeah, 29, well. I mean, we like you saw the with
- 51:05the interviews, you know, before the Home Run Derby, we were
- 51:07walking around the battery and like, and asking questions and a
- 51:10lot of kids, a lot of adults. You say Cal Raleigh, Cal Raleigh
- 51:13and we're in Braves territory and there were some people
- 51:16saying Maddie O, but I noticed some Southern accents thinking
- 51:20that Cal Raleigh was going to win it and and they predicted
- 51:23it, correct. I like it, man.
- 51:28I really do. And it's not like, I mean no
- 51:30disrespect, but it's not like he's Gary Sanchez behind the
- 51:33plate. He's also an above average
- 51:35catcher, you know what I mean? Like he's not just only an
- 51:39offensive production type kind of guy, like he's doing it on
- 51:42both sides and doing it well. Keep it up, man, Keep it up.
- 51:48Don't fade Mariners, add a little more.
- 51:53Keep this team in in the hunt. The AL is up for grabs.
- 51:57Stay hot, get hot, stay hot. Speaking of being up for grabs,
- 52:05there are a lot of seats and candy yards up for grabs the
- 52:08other night. Did you see that?
- 52:10I didn't when the lightning rolled into town.
- 52:12We've got bro. We've had some.
- 52:13I don't know what it's like out West.
- 52:15We get crazy lightning out here. Well, yeah, I know.
- 52:18I know that. But we get crazy heat lightning
- 52:21out here and then we sprinkle in like some actual legitimate
- 52:25lightning. You know, that is is your
- 52:28classic lightning that you think of when you think of lightning.
- 52:32We get some bad, bad summer storms out here on East Coast.
- 52:37And apparently they got some the other night to the point to
- 52:40where they, unbeknownst to the umpires I heard, had to clear
- 52:44out the lower bowl. And on the broadcast they were
- 52:47talking about, they're like, no, you are not watching a replay of
- 52:51a game from 2020 because that's what it looked like.
- 52:54Because they cleared out the lower bowl and they just kept
- 52:56playing. And you had people wonder, like
- 52:59the umpires, like I said, they didn't know.
- 53:00You had people watching the game being like, what's happening?
- 53:05Why are there no fans in the seats?
- 53:08And if it's because of the weather, then why are the guys
- 53:10still out on the field playing baseball?
- 53:13So just a very bizarre situation that we hadn't seen in that
- 53:17maybe ever some at least some time at the very least, but just
- 53:22very bizarre. And I I thought it was worth
- 53:26noting because it it looked very weird watching the.
- 53:28Game, yeah, that's that is weird.
- 53:32And if you're a player, you're like, my life isn't as valuable.
- 53:36Like, just because I'm not buying beers right now, like,
- 53:40you got to protect them more than me.
- 53:44Yeah, just weird. What's not weird are these Hall
- 53:51of Fame weekend hats, by the way.
- 53:54Yeah, you're a fan A. Huge fan, dude.
- 53:57Are you not a fan? Like, am I?
- 53:58Am I blowing this out of proportion?
- 54:00Like I feel like these hats are sick.
- 54:05Yeah. I like it here.
- 54:07Let me get these up. Let me get these up here.
- 54:09Let me get them up on the feet on the I.
- 54:11Kind of wish that there was. I mean, look at these things,
- 54:16dude. Kind of wish there was some tie
- 54:18into throwback uni's to go with it.
- 54:22Yeah, yeah. Like it feels a little weird,
- 54:24specifically like I'm watching, you know, Zach Wheeler on the
- 54:28bump right now for the Phillies, like the maroon old school
- 54:31Philly versus like the the new like color of like a brighter
- 54:36red, like the and then even with like the Marlins, like they're
- 54:40still on their current Uni's with this.
- 54:44I don't know. But like just outside of that, I
- 54:48think they're solid. I think they're I think they're
- 54:50good. I'm looking at all of them right
- 54:52now. I mean, I saw somebody throw out
- 54:57the the comment. They're like, why didn't we get
- 54:59the Expos for the Nats? And I'm like, I mean, the Expos
- 55:02hat obviously is iconic and, and you know, baseball history, but
- 55:06any excuse I get to catch some more that OGDC logo.
- 55:11I I love that DC logo. Do you really?
- 55:14Yeah, maybe I'm like a little, you know, biased just being in
- 55:16the area and seeing it a lot more, but I thoroughly missed
- 55:20that in comparison. I mean the curly W like
- 55:23whatever. I if if they could replace
- 55:27replace the curly W with this, I'd be all.
- 55:30I mean it was absolutely better than Curly WI know that much.
- 55:33Pretty much anything they do is better than the Curly W, but
- 55:36yeah, some. I mean, these hats are just
- 55:37like. Big fan of the the old school
- 55:39Astros one. That's nice.
- 55:42So I was I was told that a couple of these are are not
- 55:48actually legitimate, like the Cardinals logo.
- 55:53And I had to do some digging around myself.
- 55:54Apparently the Cardinals one is made-up Cardinals Legos.
- 55:58Yeah, the Cardinals logo. And I went, I checked the logo
- 56:00history, went back and looked like going back to like freaking
- 56:05day one of the franchise. How did not see that logo.
- 56:09So somebody said that that was just made-up to give it a Hall
- 56:12of Fame look. The Astros that had in
- 56:15particular, I don't think was ever worn because I think it's a
- 56:20blend of like their current scheme, but then also the the
- 56:24you know, the starburst kind of look to what they had during
- 56:28like the Bagwell days. And then obviously you got the
- 56:31teams here in the mix that just didn't even bother trying to do
- 56:35anything different. There's like 6 or seven of them
- 56:38that were just like, yeah, now we're good.
- 56:39We're we'll just turn in our in our assignment early.
- 56:42Yeah, there's a slight alteration to the NY for the
- 56:45Yanks. Little thicker.
- 56:47Yeah, it's like a little thicker and like the the left side of
- 56:50the N is lower, which is a little more traditional.
- 56:56The Mets look the same. Kansas City looks the same,
- 57:01right? I don't think there's anything
- 57:02different there. The A's.
- 57:04A's is A's Angels. I think the A's are technically
- 57:08a a throwback because that is the hat that I think they used
- 57:12to wear back like when the Kelly greens were a mainstay, but so
- 57:16I'll give that a pass. What's the C?
- 57:19So I see the Cincinnati C What's the C above them?
- 57:22Cleveland, OH. Sounds like 1's Cleveland.
- 57:25One's Cincinnati. Yeah, so it gives me like,
- 57:27Chicago Bears vibes. But then I saw the Cubs on the
- 57:30bottom left and I'm like, all right, shout out anyone watching
- 57:34on YouTube. By the way, this is where you're
- 57:35able to check this out while you're listening.
- 57:38But yeah, a minute subscribing there.
- 57:40Yeah, if you're. Listening you can pull up the
- 57:41graphic and and and join along as we we talk more about these
- 57:46but I actually learned shout out to our guy Eric.
- 57:49I found out I I learned that hold on.
- 57:54Let me just pull it up so I can confirm here learned that
- 58:00Disney. Did you know that Disney owns
- 58:02the full rights to the Winged Angels scheme?
- 58:08You know what I'm talking about. You like the Tim Salmon, The.
- 58:12Angels in the outfield type. Yeah, like the Tim Salmon days,
- 58:15you know. What I'm talking about.
- 58:16Oh my, those were so good apparently.
- 58:21He and I'm putting this solely on him.
- 58:23So if I'm if I'm speaking out of turn here, like that's where
- 58:26we're going to pin on Eric, but he.
- 58:27Shout out Eric OGOG listener. Big Angels guy, he told me that
- 58:32the the Disney owns the rights to that and that apparently
- 58:36they're the angels won't buy the rights to it.
- 58:39So that I guess that's why they maybe couldn't incorporate it or
- 58:42something. I don't know, but very
- 58:44interesting. Very, very interesting.
- 58:47Yeah, very. I mean top tier, top tier for
- 58:50sure, but yeah, enough on those. But All in all, big fan on on
- 58:56the the touch of throw or the nod rather of of throwback.
- 59:01Anytime you get a chance to see some of these classic logos and
- 59:05schemes, I'm I'm down for any excuse to to pump that in there.
- 59:11Lastly here before we get out of here, just a quick reminder
- 59:14about tonight's Sunday night baseball stream.
- 59:17Once again, Nate will be leading the charge on teaching us how to
- 59:23keep book. Yeah, he's, this is I guess our
- 59:26third, our third iteration of of this campaign.
- 59:31This again, going back to the beginning, this was Nate's idea.
- 59:34He said, hey, what if we this was in the offseason?
- 59:37Actually, he's like, what if this this coming, you know, 2025
- 59:40season would pick some Sunday night baseball streams maybe
- 59:43once a month and teach people how to keep book.
- 59:48I said sounds like a great idea and it's been a hit.
- 59:50Dude. I've thoroughly enjoyed doing
- 59:52what we do for that like. We get on, man.
- 59:54We get people hopping on there. We I think we even get people on
- 59:57there that don't necessarily even listen to the podcast,
- 1:00:00which is fine. But I mean, I hope they
- 1:00:01eventually turn turn to the the podcast at some point to listen
- 1:00:06to it or watch it. But like, we get people, we get
- 1:00:08baseball fans on there that just want to learn how to keep book
- 1:00:11and then we also get people on there that.
- 1:00:13Already know how to keep book but they just want to hang out
- 1:00:15catch a ball game on TV hanging out with other baseball fans
- 1:00:18chopping it up in the chat thoroughly enjoy it and I'm not
- 1:00:23I'm not like not blowing smoke I'm not feeding you guys a line
- 1:00:26genuinely enjoy it and it's very fun you learn a lot I mean this
- 1:00:30will be my I said this is our third time doing it so this will
- 1:00:33be my. Third one.
- 1:00:34You did one solo, didn't you? Didn't you do one solo recently?
- 1:00:38No, no, you're saying just keeping score.
- 1:00:42No, this. So this will be my this will be
- 1:00:44our third time doing it. So this will be my third time
- 1:00:46keeping score. And I've I've been learning a
- 1:00:48lot. So definitely.
- 1:00:49Enjoy it, normalize it, man, because like again, not go down
- 1:00:52this rabbit hole too much, but like the the memorabilia shorts
- 1:00:55shop that we were down in in in Atlanta checking out some old
- 1:00:59school. You got an old school one behind
- 1:01:01you, but like it's so neat that idea because like you have one
- 1:01:07that has Joe DiMaggio on it and you have one that has Ted
- 1:01:10Williams on it and it's like what a was it Joe or was it the
- 1:01:16his brother? I can't remember.
- 1:01:18Whatever. You're saying the scorecard I
- 1:01:19have? Yeah.
- 1:01:20No, it's got Joe. It was like the Yankees Red Sox
- 1:01:22game from like 41. It's got like Williams Door
- 1:01:27DiMaggio. It's pretty cool.
- 1:01:28That's that's sick. And like it's such it's just a
- 1:01:31normal guy that was probably obviously at the game, maybe
- 1:01:36listening on the radio, but I doubt it.
- 1:01:38And you know, wearing a top hat and a suit and perfect
- 1:01:42handwriting. It's just like there's there's a
- 1:01:44charm about it. And you never know, like what
- 1:01:47when you're writing a game and you're keeping score, like you
- 1:01:50never know what's going to happen.
- 1:01:51What if it is a perfect game? What if it is a Nick Kurtz four
- 1:01:55home run game? And you're like, I'm going to
- 1:01:57keep this and I'm going to frame it or I'm going to it's going to
- 1:02:00end up in a memorabilia shop someday down the road.
- 1:02:02Like you just you never know. And I think that's what's fun
- 1:02:05about it kind of brings you back to the roots of of what our game
- 1:02:08is. So it's a fun little thing to
- 1:02:10learn and it's not hard. And it's, you know, worst case
- 1:02:14scenario, come hang out. It'll be during Sunday night
- 1:02:16baseball tonight and, you know, have some dinner.
- 1:02:19Bring the fam, teach your significant other how to do it
- 1:02:23or teach your kids how to do it and like, it's just cool.
- 1:02:26Just hang out. It's low key.
- 1:02:28BYOB bring your own book. If you don't have a book, maybe
- 1:02:32run out to I'm I'm sure like Dick's Sporting Goods have them.
- 1:02:36Big 5 if you're trying to, you know, bone on a budget.
- 1:02:40Big 5, is that a shop out there? You don't have big fives out
- 1:02:43there. We have 5 below.
- 1:02:45No, Big 5 is like specifically a sporting goods store.
- 1:02:48Oh, nice. Yeah.
- 1:02:49No, we don't have those. Cheaper one, you were in Dick's
- 1:02:52Sporting Goods. Big sporting goods.
- 1:02:54Big. Models back in the day.
- 1:02:55Is models still around? Didn't they go under?
- 1:02:58I think they went bankrupt. Dang, it's tough.
- 1:03:01Go to Moe's. Shout out, Sports Authority.
- 1:03:06Yeah. What a Jingle that was.
- 1:03:09Gotta go to models. Yeah, that was nice.
- 1:03:14I remember that. Yeah, that was a that was a
- 1:03:16vibe. But anyway, bring your own book
- 1:03:19if you want to learn. If you don't want to learn, you
- 1:03:20just want to hang out with us. Bring your own food, I guess.
- 1:03:22Bring your dinner and we'll hang out.
- 1:03:24Watch some ball keep keep some books.
- 1:03:26So that's all I got. Nate, you got anything else
- 1:03:30before we before we wrap this thing up?
- 1:03:34We'll be on Thursday, not Wednesday.
- 1:03:36This week we're going to be on. I think we're planning on doing
- 1:03:40it 5:30 Eastern with the deadline being 6 O clock
- 1:03:44eastern. So we're going to start it a
- 1:03:46little early to got to get through some of the trades that
- 1:03:50are going to happen this week and then enough to carry us over
- 1:03:54post deadline to get some of those ones that kind of trickle
- 1:03:58in through media after the deadline passes.
- 1:04:02So just keep that, mark that down in your calendars.
- 1:04:06Again, Thursday, not Wednesday this week.
- 1:04:08Other than that, I'll go chasing curveballs.
- 1:04:11Le'veon, as always, looking forward to talking more baseball
- 1:04:13with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
