- 0:00We're back on the Yukon Men's Basketball Coaches Show. Uh, you kind of
- 0:03have Xavier on Sunday twelve noon is the tip and pregame eleven thirty ten.
- 0:11I don't think I've ever asked you this, but Mattine's versus night games any
- 0:15preference at all? I mean some guys players will say no, and I
- 0:19don't want to play Matinee. I'd rather play at night kind of like two,
- 0:26you know, And I don't think I played it too this year.
- 0:29I kind of like too at noon. You know. Listen, I guess
- 0:33you know, you don't have to wait around and suffer all day. And
- 0:37you know, because like when you wake up, you know, the night
- 0:39night for a game, you're you're you're in a weird place, you know,
- 0:42because you're just it's hard to control your mind. You know, you're
- 0:45and you and you're going into uh you know, a lot of worst case
- 0:48scenarios and then you wake up and you know, and it's a strange feeling
- 0:53and there's a nervous energy. And uh so I guess the positive is uh
- 0:58you know, like once the anthemy, he I think that all disappears and
- 1:00you just kind of you just coach it, and it's like the uncertainty is
- 1:06worse than the experience or even the aftermath in a lot of cases. So
- 1:11I don't like seven o'clock because you wait around. I don't like noon because
- 1:15it's too quick. So I'm going to say three thirty, all right,
- 1:19So you hate eight thirty, we get these eight thirty games. Oh my
- 1:23goodness, Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness. That's torture. That's a
- 1:26form of torture. Torture. We've been talking on pregame, you and I
- 1:32about three point shooting, team shooting better. Not the last two games,
- 1:34but I mean some of these numbers by Caravan pretty impressive. Nineteen of his
- 1:40last thirty four, Spencer sixteen of his last thirty four. I mean,
- 1:45you know, coaches love to see guys shoot over forty. But these guys
- 1:49are shooting almost fifty percent or better in these last few games. That's not
- 1:53something that you see very often. Yeah, I mean these two guys in
- 1:57particular, you know Cam, you know Alex Dair obviously exceptional shooters, and
- 2:06you know they take the right type of shots, and they could also make
- 2:07hard shots, and and uh, they do a good job of like moving
- 2:14within the offense and getting good, you know, the best looks that they
- 2:17could get. Obviously, you know they're their top of, top of scouting
- 2:22report players for the opponent. You know. But you know, Tristan love
- 2:27to see that number climb, you know, get into the mid to high
- 2:30thirties. Uh. I don't mean he ends the season, you know,
- 2:34shooting the right type of shots. Uh. You know, Hassan, you
- 2:37know shot it well. Obviously we got to get solo. You know,
- 2:40Solo is a you know, is a weapon for us. Uh you know
- 2:45that that we've got to kind of get going uh off the bench here for
- 2:47us down the stretch. So uh, you know we've we've got good shooters.
- 2:52Yeah. D r by the way, eight of his last twelve pretty
- 2:55impressive. Excuse me, step Castle at Villanova, I noticed guys were laying
- 3:01off him, they were letting him, they were basically daring him to shoot.
- 3:05Now, we saw that last year with Andre Jackson for a while.
- 3:09What are you talking about to step when he's seeing this stuff now because they're
- 3:14they're basically daring him to shoot the ball. Yeah, I mean, you
- 3:17know it's not quite the Andre, uh you know, the Andre treatment because
- 3:23Andrea's was was was way more extreme. But you know they're definitely you know,
- 3:28giving him a cushion. And you know that there's obviously uh uh you
- 3:35know a template uh with with Andre that we could work off of. And
- 3:39I think it's important that Steph uh, you know, just works harder as
- 3:44a cutter and gets downhill at more as a driver, and continues to get
- 3:49on the offensive glass and gets out in transition. I don't think, you
- 3:53know, just based on his physicality, his skill set. You know,
- 3:58you don't want to play. You don't want to play a game with his
- 4:01type of physical abilities. And and and you take six field goals and five
- 4:08of them were threes. You know, you're you're you're playing into, yeah,
- 4:12what the opponent wants you to do. So you know that he's uh,
- 4:16I think he's he's seeing something. We're seeing something. You know that
- 4:23that he's got to make adjustments too. We got to make adjustments. Yeah,
- 4:26there's one for four in a Villanova game about a forty seven percent shooter
- 4:30overall is Steph Castle. And one thing about him his speed, Dan is
- 4:35pretty impressive. I mean, you were talking about this a few weeks ago,
- 4:39saying you know, Yukon's got to get out and transition and score on
- 4:43the fast break, and you were very effective at Villanova there twenty one to
- 4:46eight in that category. Is that something that you see continuing as this season
- 4:53goes on, because that is nothing better. I don't think to get a
- 4:57team excited is when you get down the court, beat the other guys and
- 4:59get a let Yeah. I think you know, his uh, what he's
- 5:02been able to do defensively has been really impressive. Uh. You know,
- 5:09the Shireman matchup was a huge matchup and he and he he did as good
- 5:12a job as a young player could do against the player of his caliber,
- 5:17you know, defensively versus Villanova, you know, versus those big wings.
- 5:21He did an exceptional job. You know. And then I think where it
- 5:25could really help us, as uh it was on the backboard is uh,
- 5:29you know is uh, you know, offensive glass, getting us extra possessions,
- 5:33defensive rebounding and pushing the ball, you know, and and you know,
- 5:39attacking the rim, attacking the paint offensively as a cutter, as a
- 5:42driver, as a post player. And then you know, once you've put
- 5:46pressure on the rim and maybe seen something go in, you know, now
- 5:49maybe you know, step into a couple of threes. Yeah, he's a
- 5:54good offensive rebound of twenty three offensive rebounds on the season, averaging five a
- 5:58game. Has obviously missed games only played in thirteen for the Huskies, but
- 6:01Steph Castle bright future for him good. It's always fun to watch him.
- 6:04He's an exciting player. Coach. We appreciate it. Wake up call.
- 6:09I don't know what it's gonna be for you on Sunday. I'm gonna have
- 6:11to get up early, but I know you'll be there. We'll meet in
- 6:14the locker room before the game. It's at twelve o'clock too. Just want
- 6:17to just want to get that out there. Maybe I heard they could move
- 6:20it to three thirty. Yeah, yeah, I'm for that. Actually,
- 6:25let me make a phone call. Okay, all right, Dan Hurley,
- 6:29we'll be back. Kamani Young joins us in a moment. This is the
- 6:31Yukon Men's Basketball Coaches Show.
