- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode
- 0:13Speaker 1: of Long Story Short at the podcast. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and today we're discussing a Second Chance at Love, the
- 0:20Speaker 1: very first movie in Hallmarks Spring into Love series for
- 0:23Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. Wanted to welcome all of our new listeners.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark is what we call our weekly bonus
- 0:31Speaker 1: Hallmark review episodes, but we're not just Hallmark reviewers. Every
- 0:35Speaker 1: Tuesday we put out a new podcast episode where we
- 0:39Speaker 1: chat about life and the things we love. And this
- 0:41Speaker 1: week's episode was all about our favorite cleaning hacks, schedules
- 0:44Speaker 1: and strategies. And if you don't think that sounds like
- 0:46Speaker 1: a good time, then I don't know what to say
- 0:49Speaker 1: to you. Plus, we also send a few minutes at
- 0:52Speaker 1: the top of each episode checking in with each other,
- 0:55Speaker 1: and we close each episode with an approved item something
- 0:58Speaker 1: we're loving. It's a good time, love it if you
- 1:00Speaker 1: would check those out if you are a Hallmark only listener. Wendy, Yo,
- 1:06Speaker 1: it's time for a Second Chance at Love. Yeah, do
- 1:09Speaker 1: you have a synopsis? I do? Are you ready? Alicia
- 1:14Speaker 1: and Arnold? His name's not Arnold? Is it Arnold? Yeah,
- 1:18Speaker 1: I wrote in my notes Arnold, Arthur, and August. I
- 1:22Speaker 1: don't know what is going on with me, so you
- 1:25Speaker 1: will probably hear me refer to him as Arthur later
- 1:28Speaker 1: on because in my notes anyway, Okay, well, I'm starting over.
- 1:31Speaker 1: The synopsis. Alicia and Arnold's marriage is picture perfect, picture perfect. However,
- 1:39Speaker 1: Arnold is ready to grow their family, but Alicia is
- 1:41Speaker 1: hesitant to the idea. Rather than facing the problem, Alicia
- 1:45Speaker 1: sets her divorced parents each up on a blind date
- 1:48Speaker 1: dating app. This synopsis is not a true reflection of
- 1:53Speaker 1: this movie. I don't think, oh agree, I mean, those
- 1:56Speaker 1: things happen, but it should read something like Brenda and
- 2:03Speaker 1: Jack reconnect after years of doors. I don't know something, yes,
- 2:11Speaker 1: while Alicia struggles to find independence from her parents exactly now.
- 2:17Speaker 1: When we recorded our spring preview, we thought, now, correct
- 2:24Speaker 1: me if I'm wrong. We thought this movie was going
- 2:26Speaker 1: to be more heavily focused on Arnold and Alicia. I agree,
- 2:34Speaker 1: and I think we were wrong. Well, that's in fact
- 2:39Speaker 1: my first impression, which isn't normally now, but I will
- 2:42Speaker 1: say it now, is that I was very pleasantly surprised
- 2:45Speaker 1: by the balance of the younger and the older couple
- 2:47Speaker 1: in this movie, because I was worried that they would
- 2:50Speaker 1: lean too hard on the Alicia and Arnold's storyline, and
- 2:53Speaker 1: I felt there was a great balance and I thought
- 2:57Speaker 1: they did service to Brenda and Jack's story. I agree.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Now I want to ask you, what do you think
- 3:04Speaker 1: that the age demo is for Hallmark Channel. I don't
- 3:09Speaker 1: know the answer. I'm just asking what you're what you
- 3:12Speaker 1: think it is. I would guess that they do really
- 3:16Speaker 1: well in the like thirty five to fifty four demo
- 3:21Speaker 1: and up. Okay, So why do you think they push
- 3:25Speaker 1: movies so hard with young actors and actresses. Well, that's
- 3:29Speaker 1: not a Hallmark only thing. That is movies in general.
- 3:35Speaker 1: We hear all the time about actors age out of roles,
- 3:39Speaker 1: particularly women. So I agree that Hallmark focus is really
- 3:44Speaker 1: hard on young love, first love, falling in love, getting married,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and I loved We've been asking for this very specifically.
- 3:54Speaker 1: We use the phrase a second chance at love. I
- 3:56Speaker 1: have a note on that later. And then they called
- 3:58Speaker 1: the movie a second Chance Love. I think. I think
- 4:02Speaker 1: it's just what entertainment does. I just think that Homemark
- 4:08Speaker 1: is not serving its viewers. I agree, and I know
- 4:12Speaker 1: I've said it before, and I feel like I say
- 4:14Speaker 1: it again and again and again. But I'm out of
- 4:19Speaker 1: the season of life about getting married that first love. Yeah,
- 4:24Speaker 1: planning a wedding. I really want to watch stories, movies,
- 4:31Speaker 1: whatever where I'm at in my life. Okay, here's my
- 4:36Speaker 1: question though, Okay, do you really I do? I really do? So?
- 4:42Speaker 1: I am tired of like longing for the past days
- 4:46Speaker 1: gone by. Yes, I that's a great point, and I'm
- 4:50Speaker 1: just sitting here thinking to take a little bit of
- 4:53Speaker 1: a left turn in terms of content. You are, and
- 4:57Speaker 1: I am fans of Bravo programming m a number of
- 5:02Speaker 1: their shows, but let's take the Real Housewives specifically. Okay,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I watched the Orange County Housewives. We live in Orange County.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I don't find them at all relatable, agree, but I
- 5:14Speaker 1: find them entertaining. Maybe that's a different thing because I
- 5:21Speaker 1: don't necessarily want to watch the pta Moms of Central
- 5:24Speaker 1: Orange County on Bravo neither do I know? But maybe
- 5:29Speaker 1: I do want to watch a fictionalized scripted story about
- 5:36Speaker 1: real people that I can relate to. Let me talk
- 5:39Speaker 1: about that book that I read on our Pop Culture
- 5:42Speaker 1: Club episode from a couple months ago. Okay, it was
- 5:46Speaker 1: called what now It was either called the Flat Share
- 5:49Speaker 1: or it was called The Idea of You, the Idea
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yes You. And that was a story about a middle
- 5:56Speaker 1: aged not quite middle aged woman I think she's thirty
- 5:59Speaker 1: nine in the late thirties, yes, falling in love, but
- 6:02Speaker 1: like a one or twenty one year old. Hey, homemark,
- 6:07Speaker 1: make some movies like that, right, Like, it doesn't have
- 6:10Speaker 1: to be as like that book was very steamy and racy.
- 6:14Speaker 1: It doesn't have to be that. Give me a watered
- 6:16Speaker 1: down version of that. Like I that's the kind of
- 6:19Speaker 1: I don't want to say that's the only movie I
- 6:21Speaker 1: want to watch on homework, But I want to see
- 6:23Speaker 1: a variety. I want to see a variety like show
- 6:26Speaker 1: me that or show me or you know, I want
- 6:29Speaker 1: to see you know you said, like you don't want
- 6:32Speaker 1: to watch Pta Moms of Central Orange County. Fine, but
- 6:35Speaker 1: I also don't want to watch like a movie about
- 6:40Speaker 1: a man and woman who've been married twenty years and
- 6:44Speaker 1: just struggling through the day to day. They don't have
- 6:48Speaker 1: anything to talk about anymore, No, but they can make
- 6:50Speaker 1: it a romantic story, you know what I mean? Like,
- 6:52Speaker 1: I just I just want to see some of that,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and I am glad that this movie had a little
- 6:58Speaker 1: bit of it. I agree, I was very I enjoyed
- 7:03Speaker 1: this movie. Spoiler alert. Okay, so let's get into news
- 7:07Speaker 1: and notes. You already gave your first impression, and I
- 7:10Speaker 1: will give mine after we do news and notes. Okay, okay.
- 7:13Speaker 1: This movie filmed in Canada, mostly around Vancouver. Also filmed
- 7:19Speaker 1: during late January early February, which quick turnaround, real quick. Yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 1: for the first movie in the lineup. Kind of surprised
- 7:29Speaker 1: that it had that short of turnaround. Yeah, I agree.
- 7:34Speaker 1: And they've been promoting this movie longer than the others,
- 7:37Speaker 1: which means I'm going to assume that the others had
- 7:39Speaker 1: an equally short turnaround. It's gonna be like late February
- 7:43Speaker 1: and March. This was filmed because before we got a
- 7:46Speaker 1: full Spring into Love lineup, we got the March lineup,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and the only movie that's officially part of Spring and
- 7:53Speaker 1: to Love to Aaron March is this movie right here. Yeah,
- 7:57Speaker 1: a second chance I love Now. I feel like we've
- 8:00Speaker 1: talked this to death, but I would like to point
- 8:02Speaker 1: out the two of the stars of this movie, Eric
- 8:05Speaker 1: Leasal and Gloria Rubin acted together in ER. They have
- 8:09Speaker 1: not been on screen together in twenty years. That's a
- 8:14Speaker 1: long time. I was thrilled to see them back together.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I was a big er fan. Were they on in
- 8:21Speaker 1: the early days of R, like they were they original cast.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I read that Eric Lasal was in one hundred and
- 8:27Speaker 1: seventy one episodes of ER. Oh wow. I think he
- 8:30Speaker 1: sharded as like a resident or like I think he
- 8:35Speaker 1: worked his way up. I don't think he was. Maybe
- 8:38Speaker 1: I'm remembering wrong, but Eric Leasal I think was on
- 8:42Speaker 1: the majority of the time, whether he was the pilot,
- 8:45Speaker 1: he was a one hundred and seventy one episodes of VRS.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I don't know how many, how many seasons a lot
- 8:50Speaker 1: of seasons of R. I have vivid memories of the
- 8:52Speaker 1: opening of him, like sliding along the floor doing in
- 8:55Speaker 1: his scrubs doing Oh that's funny, I guess celebration. My
- 8:58Speaker 1: memory of him is he was kind of like a
- 9:01Speaker 1: grumpy Gus on that show. Yeah, but I haven't seen
- 9:04Speaker 1: it in so long. I don't know if I've reckon
- 9:06Speaker 1: that in my mind. I think he was just like
- 9:08Speaker 1: super intense about his job. Yeah, but I was happy
- 9:11Speaker 1: to see them back on screen. Together, and Eric Lestyle
- 9:15Speaker 1: himself recently signed a three book deal for a crime
- 9:19Speaker 1: thriller series. And what I liked about the story I
- 9:22Speaker 1: didn't like. Let me tell you. He submitted several book
- 9:26Speaker 1: roholess and had them refused and finally was able to
- 9:30Speaker 1: get one picked up. And I don't like that he
- 9:34Speaker 1: worked so hard. But I liked the success story. I
- 9:36Speaker 1: don't like the multiple rejections, but I liked the look
- 9:38Speaker 1: there was a success at the end of this yea
- 9:41Speaker 1: of perseverance. And I love a crime film. I know
- 9:44Speaker 1: I have a thrilled trio. They call them gritty crime
- 9:48Speaker 1: novel into it. The working title of this movie was
- 9:55Speaker 1: called I Do Again. Now, Oh, okay, I Do Again.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Here's what I think. I think someone from Hallmark is
- 10:05Speaker 1: listening to our podcast because we said specifically and if
- 10:10Speaker 1: I could go back and find the episode, I will
- 10:13Speaker 1: link it in our show notes. But I said specifically,
- 10:16Speaker 1: or we did, we want a second chance that love
- 10:20Speaker 1: stories and then wola, you guys, there's a movie called that.
- 10:25Speaker 1: It's not like those are like uncommon words. No, I'm
- 10:29Speaker 1: gonna look it up. I'm gonna see if I can
- 10:31Speaker 1: find it. I know we specifically use the word second
- 10:34Speaker 1: chance love. I remember I was in my closet recording
- 10:36Speaker 1: it at a time. I remember it too specific. I
- 10:39Speaker 1: vividly remember it as well. I do. I know we
- 10:41Speaker 1: said it, and I would you know. I don't know
- 10:45Speaker 1: if you remember, but we used to do I know
- 10:48Speaker 1: you remember this. But we used to do Big Brother
- 10:50Speaker 1: predictions at the beginning of every season, and then we
- 10:54Speaker 1: would do some thoughts throughout the season. And at one
- 10:57Speaker 1: point there was a cast member named Winston Yes, oh yes,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and he and another cast member were very similar. And
- 11:06Speaker 1: I in a video called he and the other cast member.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I said hashtag Twinston yes, and then they use that
- 11:14Speaker 1: on the episode. Yeah, and somebody is watching our stuff.
- 11:17Speaker 1: So that seems very That was very specific. What else
- 11:22Speaker 1: do you have for news and notes? Uh? Just a
- 11:24Speaker 1: small one. Bj Harrison was in this movie. She played
- 11:30Speaker 1: me Ma, I love Beja Harrison and I don't even
- 11:33Speaker 1: know if she had any lines in this movie other
- 11:36Speaker 1: than I'm going on a date. I got a friend
- 11:39Speaker 1: coming over. Yeah. She is just one of those Hallmark players.
- 11:43Speaker 1: You see her in so many movies, and sometimes she
- 11:46Speaker 1: has like a bigger role. Sometimes she has a small,
- 11:48Speaker 1: little role. I just I get like this overwhelming, like
- 11:53Speaker 1: feeling of like warmth and happiness when I see her.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I was gonna say the same thing. I feel so
- 12:00Speaker 1: comforted when she's on screen, you know, And I'm like,
- 12:03Speaker 1: give this woman her own freaking movie. Yes, everything's gonna
- 12:06Speaker 1: be okay when I see her. Yeah, I just love her.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I love her. Tell me your first impression of this movie.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Here's my first impression. And it really doesn't have to
- 12:15Speaker 1: do with the movie. Oh, I made a real mistake
- 12:19Speaker 1: not adding Eric Lasal to my Hot Dude's list. Oh
- 12:22Speaker 1: that's a great point. Fifty nine and fine, I was
- 12:27Speaker 1: so taken with him. Does he make the list? Though?
- 12:30Speaker 1: What was our age limit? It was fifty five? Oh yeah,
- 12:35Speaker 1: I was it fifty five or was it sixty? I
- 12:38Speaker 1: can't remember now, it had it be fifty five. Maybe.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I think you're right. I think you're right. For the
- 12:44Speaker 1: new listeners. What I'm talking about is several months ago,
- 12:48Speaker 1: we did a Hot Old Dudes, Hot Old Dudes episode
- 12:53Speaker 1: on our regular Tuesday podcast. I will leave a link
- 12:55Speaker 1: to it in our show notes, where Megan and I
- 12:58Speaker 1: shared our face writ Hot Old Dudes and we had
- 13:01Speaker 1: a threshold. I think it was sixty. I don't know.
- 13:06Speaker 1: It must have been fifty five. Yeah, I think it
- 13:08Speaker 1: was fifty five because Keanu Reeves is like fifty nine
- 13:11Speaker 1: and we discussed him. Anyway, I think this is what
- 13:14Speaker 1: I'm thinking. I think we're gonna have to revisit this
- 13:17Speaker 1: topic year after year. Oh yeah, we need some sort
- 13:19Speaker 1: of March Madness type like tournament bracket. Yes, bracket I'm
- 13:25Speaker 1: making with my hands. Bracket is quite impressive. You know.
- 13:30Speaker 1: That's a that episodes is a good time, and I'll
- 13:33Speaker 1: be honest, it was more for us, like it was
- 13:35Speaker 1: a funny idea we had. We thought it would be fun.
- 13:37Speaker 1: It's a very popular episode that I was surprised by
- 13:41Speaker 1: because you never know, I thought people would be like,
- 13:44Speaker 1: give me a break, were listening to this. It was
- 13:46Speaker 1: a good time, and I think people agreed. So give
- 13:48Speaker 1: that one a listen, and Eric Lesalen needs to be
- 13:50Speaker 1: on my Indeed, I'm gonna go edit it and it's
- 13:52Speaker 1: gonna be like Eric lasal all right, let's talk about
- 13:59Speaker 1: what we liked about A Second Chance at Love. Okay,
- 14:03Speaker 1: I want to start a real surface level. Okay. I
- 14:05Speaker 1: thought this movie was visually beautiful in a lot of ways.
- 14:09Speaker 1: I loved Alicia's wardrobe throughout. I especially loved the pink
- 14:16Speaker 1: skirt she wore on her honeymoon getaway. It was just
- 14:20Speaker 1: this real bright Coraly pink rap skirt, so cute. She
- 14:23Speaker 1: had great accessories. And I loved the home that Alicia
- 14:29Speaker 1: and Arnold lived in. Real modern one hundred percent not
- 14:32Speaker 1: my style. But every time they did an exterior shot
- 14:35Speaker 1: of that house, for some reason, I felt like I
- 14:37Speaker 1: was in an episode of modern Family Oh Interest, because
- 14:40Speaker 1: that's how they would always send her where they were
- 14:42Speaker 1: is by doing an exterior shot of the family and
- 14:45Speaker 1: cam and Mitchell Mitch. I was like, his name is Jesse.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I think in real life, I think they lived. Did
- 14:53Speaker 1: they live in like a more modern house? I don't
- 14:55Speaker 1: remember anyway, Regardless, I enjoyed their home. I thought it
- 14:59Speaker 1: was really sleep and beautiful on the inside and visually. Also,
- 15:06Speaker 1: Gloria Rubin as Brenda's wedding dress. Did you clock it? No?
- 15:13Speaker 1: It was just beautiful. Oh it was pants. It was vance.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I had to rewind it, yes, because oh I just
- 15:21Speaker 1: noticed the neckline. I just thought it was kind of
- 15:24Speaker 1: casual is the wrong word. But it wasn't a classic
- 15:27Speaker 1: princess ball gown, and I just thought the silhouette. I
- 15:31Speaker 1: was like, this is a perfect second wedding dress to keep. No, gosh,
- 15:36Speaker 1: I don't know, you guys, I had to keep. And
- 15:38Speaker 1: it was pants, and it was like one hundred percent
- 15:40Speaker 1: something I would wear. I love that it's pants. That
- 15:42Speaker 1: makes me like it even more. Me too, And I
- 15:45Speaker 1: thought like, oh, did she wear pants throughout the movie?
- 15:47Speaker 1: And I was like no, just because at that last
- 15:49Speaker 1: previous scene she was in a dress. Yeah, and she's
- 15:52Speaker 1: dancing in skirts often. Yeah, it was very pretty. I'm
- 15:55Speaker 1: surprised you didn't put that on in the Did you
- 15:57Speaker 1: see that moment? What was what I liked? Okay, well, no,
- 16:03Speaker 1: it's fine. Uh. You talked about this earlier, and I
- 16:08Speaker 1: agree that. I am so happy that this movie wasn't
- 16:12Speaker 1: story heavy on Alicia and Arnold. I was because Arnold sucks.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Arnold did suck. We'll get to that, okay. And I
- 16:20Speaker 1: was like happy it wasn't like this like twist on
- 16:24Speaker 1: mingle all the way, stupid dating app nafu nonsense. I
- 16:28Speaker 1: mean it did have that, and honestly, they they didn't
- 16:32Speaker 1: even need that other than like getting them together. I
- 16:36Speaker 1: thought the app itself faded into the background, even though
- 16:39Speaker 1: the app was created by Arnold's company, Right. I liked that.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I agree that it was not a focus on look
- 16:45Speaker 1: at this new fangled app we've created, because guess what
- 16:47Speaker 1: happens when you do that? Movie doesn't age? Well, no,
- 16:49Speaker 1: exactly exactly. I love the music in this movie. Yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: I don't know if you caught it. I was like,
- 16:55Speaker 1: this feels like a very contemporary and it was. These
- 16:58Speaker 1: songs were not like made today, they were popular songs
- 17:03Speaker 1: of days ago. But I was like, hey, look at
- 17:06Speaker 1: that just the two of us when they're dancing. That's
- 17:09Speaker 1: the song they hotel. I couldn't remember, but they played
- 17:11Speaker 1: it at the very beginning too. I was just so
- 17:14Speaker 1: I just like that, especially in the opening scene. I
- 17:16Speaker 1: think they're playing just the two of us where it's
- 17:19Speaker 1: a young Alicia and she's watching her mom and dad
- 17:21Speaker 1: dance in the living room, and I just was like,
- 17:24Speaker 1: that makes me so happy, and like I kind of
- 17:27Speaker 1: wish like my own home was like that, Like, but
- 17:29Speaker 1: my husband and I dancing in the living room where
- 17:31Speaker 1: my daughter watching is not something that would ever happen ever,
- 17:36Speaker 1: But I like the idea of it. Yeah, it just
- 17:38Speaker 1: feels like warm and sweet, right, I think that was
- 17:42Speaker 1: the vibe through a lot of this movie. It felt
- 17:44Speaker 1: like a warm, happy family. Yes. So many of these
- 17:49Speaker 1: movies we have like dire, We're gonna lose the family business,
- 17:55Speaker 1: the home is being fore clothes. Yeah right, And there
- 17:58Speaker 1: wasn't any of that. Yes, there was some relationship drama.
- 18:02Speaker 1: But sometimes I get a little bit stressed out watching these,
- 18:06Speaker 1: like we're gonna lose it all. Yeah. Yeah, I'm glad
- 18:10Speaker 1: they didn't. I really really loved how natural Eric and
- 18:14Speaker 1: Gloria were together, like they just fell into their like
- 18:18Speaker 1: old not roles, but like just that old chemistry that
- 18:23Speaker 1: they've had working years and years together. I just loved it.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I agree. I just watching them on screen felt so natural.
- 18:31Speaker 1: And when they see each other for the first time
- 18:36Speaker 1: in the restaurant, it felt like exactly how I would imagine.
- 18:41Speaker 1: You know, this is the reason you were married to
- 18:43Speaker 1: that you loved, and now you're out put supposedly with somebody,
- 18:46Speaker 1: yeah else running it. It's awkward, but I yeah, right,
- 18:50Speaker 1: there were some funny lines to you. We were talking
- 18:52Speaker 1: about that restaurant when they run in and they end
- 18:54Speaker 1: up having dinner and she like goes to split the
- 18:56Speaker 1: bill and he's like, he's taking me. I was thinking
- 18:59Speaker 1: a break. I ever, I just thought that was good.
- 19:03Speaker 1: One of my favorite scenes was at the very end.
- 19:05Speaker 1: It was the Christenine scene and Grandpa Jack was just
- 19:09Speaker 1: so excited for his daughter to have this baby girl,
- 19:12Speaker 1: and I just was like, oh, I love it, loved it. So,
- 19:15Speaker 1: speaking of that christening scene, one of the things that
- 19:18Speaker 1: I loved is I loved the whole flash forward element
- 19:21Speaker 1: and the where are they now? We had two concurrent
- 19:23Speaker 1: storylines happening, right, and so I liked that not only
- 19:28Speaker 1: do we get to the wedding, but then we see
- 19:31Speaker 1: at the wedding that she's pregnant, and then we flash
- 19:33Speaker 1: forward even further to the christening and everyone has a
- 19:36Speaker 1: happy ending, and they cleanly wrapped up both storylines in
- 19:41Speaker 1: a believable way. Let's talk about what we wished for.
- 19:46Speaker 1: And this is the part of the podcast if you're
- 19:48Speaker 1: a new listener, where we talk about the things that
- 19:52Speaker 1: we didn't love so much about the movie. Yeah, changes
- 19:56Speaker 1: we would make if we were on the writing stuff.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Alicia needs a backbone, okay to her husband or parents
- 20:04Speaker 1: or both. I think both. But look your mother going
- 20:12Speaker 1: through a breakup. While it's nice for you to be
- 20:15Speaker 1: there for her, is not a tragedy that necessitates you
- 20:20Speaker 1: inviting her on your anniversary trip away with your husband.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Never this is ever I'm gonna call you mom, I'm
- 20:28Speaker 1: gonna they were going away for a weekend, not a month.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Let's have lunch when I come back, mom, not you
- 20:35Speaker 1: should come with us. There's no logic in that. Oh,
- 20:38Speaker 1: I invited her to come with me. Now I thought,
- 20:41Speaker 1: Arnold suckt and I we will get to that. But
- 20:44Speaker 1: it was in this moment that I was like, what
- 20:47Speaker 1: are you doing? Well? Even the mom she'd have been like, no,
- 20:49Speaker 1: that's a terrible idea. I'm not gonna go away on
- 20:51Speaker 1: your anniversary weekend. And here's what they ignored. The mom
- 20:56Speaker 1: doesn't live alone. She lives with her mother. She's not
- 21:00Speaker 1: sitting at home alone. First of all, she's an adult
- 21:02Speaker 1: woman who's gone through a breakup. While she's entitled to
- 21:04Speaker 1: feel sad, I don't think she needed. This is a
- 21:07Speaker 1: woman who's very successful in her career, who has raised
- 21:11Speaker 1: a daughter. She didn't need the coddling that Alicia was
- 21:14Speaker 1: giving her right and so I think they both failed
- 21:17Speaker 1: in that moment, and I really think that would have
- 21:19Speaker 1: been a moment for Mema to step in and be like,
- 21:21Speaker 1: what is happening? Totally, No, stay home, Totally, I do
- 21:25Speaker 1: not care that she invited you. Totally, that would have
- 21:28Speaker 1: been a great idea. I thought Arnold wasn't very empathetic
- 21:33Speaker 1: to his wife and what she was dealing with. However,
- 21:38Speaker 1: I also thought like Alicia was far too involved in
- 21:43Speaker 1: her parents' lives, like it was on the day to day.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I don't talk to my parents on the day to day.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Neither do I, and I consider myself very close to
- 21:51Speaker 1: my parents. Yeah, two a week. Two, Yeah, I'm not
- 21:56Speaker 1: meeting my dad at for a run and then like
- 21:58Speaker 1: badgering him over or like his recent breakup or whatever.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Like no, And if your parents accidentally need on a
- 22:08Speaker 1: dating app and start dating, I think it is not
- 22:11Speaker 1: only okay, but perhaps preferred and what's the word beyond
- 22:24Speaker 1: reasonable for them to keep that information from their daughter. Sure,
- 22:27Speaker 1: many children of adult parents dream of their parents getting
- 22:31Speaker 1: back together. And so if you've gone on one date,
- 22:35Speaker 1: why give your daughter either false hope or false anxiety
- 22:38Speaker 1: or you don't know what's happening. She's not entitled to
- 22:42Speaker 1: the information about your adult dating life exactly. And the
- 22:45Speaker 1: other thing is too is like they've been divorced for
- 22:47Speaker 1: many years. Are we to say that they've I know
- 22:51Speaker 1: that Jack obviously was like a serial dater or whatever,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and didn't she say something like he always like breaks
- 22:58Speaker 1: it off when it gets too close. And I don't
- 23:01Speaker 1: know really about the mom, like what her dating history was,
- 23:06Speaker 1: but I have to assume in all those years that
- 23:10Speaker 1: they probably went out on a date or two and
- 23:13Speaker 1: the daughter has been that involved every single time. Right,
- 23:16Speaker 1: too much, too much, too much. So let's talk about Arnold. Okay,
- 23:21Speaker 1: I think everyone in this movie could have benefited from
- 23:24Speaker 1: a lesson in communication. Nobody knows how to communicate well,
- 23:28Speaker 1: and Arnold was passive aggressive. Absolutely absolutely. Look, we all
- 23:34Speaker 1: get frustrated with our partners. That is a reasonable thing.
- 23:37Speaker 1: We get frustrated when they make decisions. But there's one
- 23:40Speaker 1: point where he kind of just blows her off and
- 23:42Speaker 1: is not going to talk to her about what he's like.
- 23:44Speaker 1: I don't know what to say. No, you say, I'm
- 23:47Speaker 1: frustrated because I feel like you're giving too much of
- 23:51Speaker 1: your time to your parents and I feel like we
- 23:53Speaker 1: aren't spending any time together and we haven't had a
- 23:55Speaker 1: chance to have a conversation. That's what you say. Yeah,
- 23:57Speaker 1: I'm frustrated because I feel like we keep missing each
- 23:59Speaker 1: other and bit of free time we have goes to
- 24:01Speaker 1: your parents. You don't say, I don't know what to
- 24:03Speaker 1: say to you. Well, okay, then there is no solution here.
- 24:07Speaker 1: It was like Judy Moody in bed all by himself
- 24:10Speaker 1: or you know, do you remember that scene. No, it
- 24:13Speaker 1: was like dark and he was like in bed by himself,
- 24:16Speaker 1: like I think she had gotten homely. Oh, and his
- 24:19Speaker 1: eyes are open and he doesn't roll over and look
- 24:21Speaker 1: at her. Yeah. I really was like, really, are we
- 24:24Speaker 1: that mad? Sious? She's just not having an affair. She
- 24:26Speaker 1: was at with her Mom's not even like she was
- 24:31Speaker 1: out with like girlfriends or something, you know what I mean.
- 24:33Speaker 1: She was like with her mom. Come on, and look,
- 24:37Speaker 1: we are at the point. Granted I've said already none
- 24:41Speaker 1: of these situations were tragic and they didn't warrant the
- 24:46Speaker 1: type of involvement, but we are at the point where
- 24:48Speaker 1: we do have to attend to our parents. Sometimes there
- 24:51Speaker 1: are times we need to reroute. Yes, So I felt
- 24:55Speaker 1: like there was no allowance for that while also feeling
- 24:58Speaker 1: like Alicia went overboard agree I needed a more realistic
- 25:03Speaker 1: version of why they got divorced in the first place.
- 25:06Speaker 1: The story that was told was that they were, like,
- 25:10Speaker 1: they were so in love, but they were so committed
- 25:12Speaker 1: to their careers and their careers just like I mean,
- 25:16Speaker 1: she owned a dance school or something like. And I
- 25:19Speaker 1: don't even know if they established what he was something
- 25:22Speaker 1: that makes him a lot of money, because apparently he's
- 25:23Speaker 1: a sugar daddy to everybody. So I was like, it
- 25:27Speaker 1: wasn't like they were doctors or lawyers where they like
- 25:29Speaker 1: spent like hours upon hours away from the home. And right,
- 25:33Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's okay to say, like you just
- 25:37Speaker 1: fall out of not fall out of love, But like
- 25:40Speaker 1: I just thought the profession I just thought the career
- 25:44Speaker 1: angle was dumb. Yes, because it was clear that they
- 25:52Speaker 1: didn't necessarily fall out of love. They just stopped perhaps
- 25:55Speaker 1: acting like a married couple because their time was focused
- 25:58Speaker 1: on their jobs. And then they had a child who
- 26:00Speaker 1: probably took a lot of their attention, which I think
- 26:02Speaker 1: happens to lots of relationships. Yes, you get to a point,
- 26:06Speaker 1: and for me, what I was thinking is if I
- 26:09Speaker 1: were in that position. My husband's going one direction, I'm
- 26:11Speaker 1: going to the other. We're both so focused on their jobs.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Who has time to think about getting divorced. It feels
- 26:17Speaker 1: like you just kind of keep on keeping on, especially
- 26:20Speaker 1: when your kids are little. Yeah, and then maybe you
- 26:23Speaker 1: look back and go, oh, what have we been doing
- 26:24Speaker 1: the last fifteen years? Yeah, But to be that aware
- 26:31Speaker 1: that you're headed in opposite directions and then not attempt
- 26:36Speaker 1: to write the ship seems surprising to me. Yeah. They
- 26:41Speaker 1: just like, all right, let's get divorced. I don't even
- 26:43Speaker 1: go to therapy. Come on, And he said, I never
- 26:46Speaker 1: wanted the divorce, right, So Gloria's out there, excuse me,
- 26:49Speaker 1: Brenda's out there pushing for it. That didn't jive with
- 26:54Speaker 1: her character in this movie. Yeah. Yeah, the last thing
- 26:59Speaker 1: that bothered me was there he comes, Jack comes to
- 27:06Speaker 1: the resort or wherever they're at, and they're, you know, dancing,
- 27:12Speaker 1: and he's obviously very much wants to get back together
- 27:15Speaker 1: with her, and she's still questioning the relationship and is
- 27:18Speaker 1: it worth it and I don't know, and we need
- 27:20Speaker 1: to talk, and and then he proposes and she says yes,
- 27:25Speaker 1: like in a span of five minutes. Yeah, like she's
- 27:28Speaker 1: obviously really concerned about Like what all this means? Dude,
- 27:33Speaker 1: don't propose? Yeah, how about like, let's let's see what happens.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Let's go on a couple more dates. Yeah, and see
- 27:43Speaker 1: where we're at. Yeah, come on, it's time for digits.
- 27:47Speaker 1: That where we poke some holes in this movie. I
- 27:50Speaker 1: don't have too many pokes. I just have some funny observances. Okay,
- 27:55Speaker 1: you got pokes, I gotta I got a funny observance
- 27:58Speaker 1: and a little bit of a poke. Okay. Here. So
- 28:01Speaker 1: early on, we see Alicia at her job and she
- 28:05Speaker 1: and her work Bessie, both have clients in their chairs. Yes,
- 28:09Speaker 1: and lorga bestie, appears to actually be styling the hair
- 28:12Speaker 1: of the person in her chair, but Alicia is just
- 28:14Speaker 1: fluffing that hair. She fluffs and she fluffs and she fluffs,
- 28:17Speaker 1: and you know that this was not a one take conversation,
- 28:19Speaker 1: and there's multiple camera angles. So this poor woman in
- 28:22Speaker 1: her chair sits there with Alisha fluff in her hair,
- 28:25Speaker 1: and I have some sensory issues. I'm sitting there thinking
- 28:28Speaker 1: if I were that actress, I would be like, stop
- 28:31Speaker 1: taching me, stop touching. I have two thoughts about that scene.
- 28:37Speaker 1: One is the two women who are getting their hair down.
- 28:41Speaker 1: The lady who Alicia was doing was fluffy. She had
- 28:44Speaker 1: a pleasant face in the mirror your other lady RBF,
- 28:52Speaker 1: and I could so relate to it, Like I was like,
- 28:54Speaker 1: I make that face up the slot because I hate
- 28:56Speaker 1: the way I look in a saloon. Of course, the lighting,
- 29:00Speaker 1: I was like, ohing on so. And I also was like,
- 29:03Speaker 1: I can totally picture this woman's character. There's always nothing's
- 29:07Speaker 1: ever right, always upset with life. I was like, is
- 29:11Speaker 1: she in a role or is she just like this
- 29:13Speaker 1: damn salon lighting is not it? And then in that
- 29:16Speaker 1: same scene, you were talking about how cute Alicia's clothes were,
- 29:19Speaker 1: and I agree. And I didn't know she was a
- 29:21Speaker 1: hairdresser until she gets to the salon and she's putting
- 29:24Speaker 1: her apron on and she's in huge high heels, and
- 29:26Speaker 1: I was like, she really gonna wear those high heels
- 29:29Speaker 1: all day long? Behind a chair? Yeah? I mean, I
- 29:32Speaker 1: guess people probably do, not my hair lady, but I
- 29:36Speaker 1: guess people probably do. Yeah, I've definitely seen you know,
- 29:41Speaker 1: the salon where you and I both get our eyebrows done. Yeah,
- 29:44Speaker 1: that place is full of cute stylists. I bet they're
- 29:47Speaker 1: wearing heels. They probably are. I thought Alicia was dressed
- 29:52Speaker 1: more like well, a creative, but in an office space
- 29:59Speaker 1: in a salon. I would like to say more about
- 30:02Speaker 1: her job, and I don't want stylist to come for me. Okay.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Alicia spends a lot of time talking about how she
- 30:09Speaker 1: just can't get away from work. She can't get away
- 30:11Speaker 1: from work. How can we plan a weekend away? I
- 30:14Speaker 1: can't get away from work. Girl, You set your own schedule,
- 30:17Speaker 1: take some time off. I cannot take an appointment that
- 30:20Speaker 1: Friday and Saturday because I'm going away with my husband.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Work on a day that you don't normally work, work
- 30:26Speaker 1: a little late one night so you can take a
- 30:27Speaker 1: night off. I'm not saying stylos aren't busy. If you're good,
- 30:30Speaker 1: you probably are quite busy. Right, But did you see
- 30:34Speaker 1: the house they lived in. They did not appear to
- 30:37Speaker 1: be in financial dire straits to where her taking a
- 30:40Speaker 1: day off would have been financially troublesome. Well, that's funny
- 30:45Speaker 1: that you mentioned that, because when they had Alicia and
- 30:49Speaker 1: Arnold had like another couple over for dinner, and the
- 30:53Speaker 1: dude was talking about like what he did for a job,
- 30:56Speaker 1: and then Arnold got a little bit like about what
- 31:00Speaker 1: he does for work, and it kind of made it
- 31:06Speaker 1: seem like not that they were struggling, but like he hadn't,
- 31:10Speaker 1: like he wasn't making millions off of his app or whatever.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Maybe she's got daddy's money, daddy money, totally what else
- 31:19Speaker 1: you got? Matthew James Dowd and he plays Rob Staples
- 31:24Speaker 1: in this movie, and he's an instructor at the dance school.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Can I interrupt you? Yes? Is mister Staples the worst
- 31:30Speaker 1: name for a dance instructor you've ever heard? Mister Staples? Yeah,
- 31:37Speaker 1: that's awful. Okay, that's awful. Anyway, they have a scene
- 31:40Speaker 1: where like Brenda is critiquing like his dance or whatever,
- 31:43Speaker 1: and he's dancing like he's like making zigs his arms.
- 31:49Speaker 1: So I don't even remember that interpretive ballroom dance yet,
- 32:00Speaker 1: like over and over and then she was like, Okay,
- 32:03Speaker 1: we'll come back to that or whatever I do. She
- 32:05Speaker 1: was interrupted, Oh, it's because Jack came with the flowers. No,
- 32:09Speaker 1: that's not when I know, because when Jack comes with
- 32:11Speaker 1: the flowers, there they were dancing arm in arm. Yeah,
- 32:14Speaker 1: I don't remember I don't. I did feel like the
- 32:16Speaker 1: mister Staples storyline was odd and not fully realized because
- 32:19Speaker 1: I thought maybe we were supposed to think that that
- 32:22Speaker 1: instructor had a crush on Brenda. Yeah, but it was
- 32:26Speaker 1: not fully fleshed out, and so maybe he just existed
- 32:29Speaker 1: as they had to set him up as someone for
- 32:32Speaker 1: Jack to have a reaction to. Yeah, And that was
- 32:35Speaker 1: so dumb too, because obviously she probably owned the school
- 32:40Speaker 1: or was a professor of dancer. Gonna dance with people's
- 32:44Speaker 1: gonna dance with people. It's not like he walked in
- 32:47Speaker 1: on them in bed together. I was like, that's what
- 32:50Speaker 1: they do for a professor in the middle of the school,
- 32:53Speaker 1: all the lights are on. She's like running out. It's
- 32:56Speaker 1: not what you think. Yeah, dumb, dumb, dumb dumb. At
- 33:02Speaker 1: the end, when they're at the resort and Jack asks
- 33:04Speaker 1: the DJ to play their song, they start dancing and
- 33:07Speaker 1: then like they're like, let's go for a talk. It
- 33:08Speaker 1: was like twenty seconds of like, yeah, you just made
- 33:11Speaker 1: them change the music just for you, finish it out exactly,
- 33:14Speaker 1: and he's like, Oh, we gotta go talk. We gotta
- 33:16Speaker 1: go talk. When Eric lies out as Jack proposes did
- 33:22Speaker 1: you see the tear come down his face? I did,
- 33:25Speaker 1: and it looked real like it splashed off the side
- 33:28Speaker 1: of his gen too, and she It was kind of
- 33:30Speaker 1: a funny scene because she wipes it and she must
- 33:35Speaker 1: say something to him because he starts laughing and like
- 33:38Speaker 1: grabs like her hand or something like that. And I think,
- 33:42Speaker 1: like we caught, like uh or not? We the movie
- 33:46Speaker 1: people caught like an actual real scene bts too and
- 33:50Speaker 1: it just looked like fun and jovial and they're like, oh,
- 33:52Speaker 1: we're gonna use it. But I was like, why is
- 33:55Speaker 1: he crying? Like for real in real life? Yea, Like
- 33:58Speaker 1: as an actor was like the scene, I'm gonna cry
- 34:00Speaker 1: in this scene. So do you Did you notice the
- 34:04Speaker 1: light on her ring in the ring box? I did, so.
- 34:08Speaker 1: I don't know if that's still a thing. When I
- 34:11Speaker 1: got engaged, that was like that was a thing. There
- 34:14Speaker 1: was a light in your ring box, which is very cool.
- 34:16Speaker 1: But I was what I thought was interesting is I
- 34:19Speaker 1: just assumed these are all prop rings and they've got
- 34:20Speaker 1: ring boxes lying around because the battery dies on that light. Oh,
- 34:25Speaker 1: so I was like, did they go get anew because
- 34:28Speaker 1: it just seemed like nobody would have noticed if there
- 34:31Speaker 1: was no light in the ring box right exactly, So
- 34:33Speaker 1: I just bumped on it. I'm like, oh, is the
- 34:35Speaker 1: brand Ney box? Yeah? And I did think for like
- 34:38Speaker 1: a quick second, like I was like, is this movie
- 34:40Speaker 1: brought to us by Diamonds USA? Whatever? I couldn't even
- 34:45Speaker 1: think of like a jeweler. But yeah, I was like
- 34:47Speaker 1: waiting for like you know, like Marcus begins with K,
- 34:51Speaker 1: like you know, like I'm a bachelor where it's like
- 34:53Speaker 1: this is a Neil Laye diamond and it fully says
- 34:56Speaker 1: Neil lane on it or whatever, but I don't think
- 34:58Speaker 1: it was. This is my last note and it's a
- 35:01Speaker 1: dumb one. It's a throwaway. But at the beginning, when
- 35:05Speaker 1: Alicia and Arnold are in their house and they're like
- 35:08Speaker 1: getting ready to leave for the day, she's making us
- 35:10Speaker 1: smoothie and she puts like a smoothie and like a
- 35:13Speaker 1: big like what I would drink water out of. Yeah,
- 35:17Speaker 1: And she's pouring the smoothie out and she leaves about
- 35:21Speaker 1: like an inch left of smoothie and like just in
- 35:24Speaker 1: the blender. Yes, And I was like, that's gonna be
- 35:27Speaker 1: so gross when she gets home, Like that's just the
- 35:30Speaker 1: thing that's why I don't make smoothies because I don't
- 35:31Speaker 1: want to clean up that and I don't want to
- 35:33Speaker 1: put it in an insulated thing where like straw gets
- 35:38Speaker 1: all gunked up, Like no, why she should have just
- 35:42Speaker 1: been eating a bowl of cereal or something like make
- 35:44Speaker 1: it easier. Smoothies are too messy. Totally all right, it's
- 35:49Speaker 1: time to rate this movie. Did you remember to give
- 35:52Speaker 1: this movie a rating? I did. I would like you
- 35:55Speaker 1: to hold up your fingers on a count of three, okay,
- 35:57Speaker 1: a one, two, three, double four stars for stars, for stars,
- 36:04Speaker 1: look more movies with a mature cast. I'm into it.
- 36:09Speaker 1: I thought it was a good movie, A good, solid
- 36:12Speaker 1: movie to start out the Spring. Agree, nice strong foundation.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I think they've got a lot of good things coming.
- 36:19Speaker 1: They at least have a lot of good actors cast.
- 36:22Speaker 1: So but this is this is setting the bar really high.
- 36:26Speaker 1: And that's four out of five. It's a five star
- 36:28Speaker 1: movies very hard, but a four star movie is a
- 36:30Speaker 1: great movie in my opinion. Now I got to inject
- 36:35Speaker 1: a note here. Yeah. On our Spring into Love preview,
- 36:40Speaker 1: we talked about next weekend's movie because there was no
- 36:43Speaker 1: details about it, just one kiss. It's stars Santino what's
- 36:48Speaker 1: his last name? Fontana? And like I mentioned before, he
- 36:53Speaker 1: did the audio voice of the character Joe in the book.
- 37:00Speaker 1: And I'm telling you every time, like I saw the commercial,
- 37:03Speaker 1: I just close my eyes and all I see is
- 37:05Speaker 1: Joe from that book. Now, if you haven't read that book,
- 37:09Speaker 1: Joe's a bad guy. Joe is a bad guy, but
- 37:11Speaker 1: he's he's a desirable bad guy. Yes, and then so
- 37:15Speaker 1: I cannot wait to see this movie because I just
- 37:17Speaker 1: want to hear this guy sing and talk the entire time.
- 37:22Speaker 1: And then we also talked about the Royal movie. Yes,
- 37:26Speaker 1: that had no details to it, right, and what's it called?
- 37:30Speaker 1: A royal runaway romance? I gotta say the previously looked
- 37:33Speaker 1: pretty decent for it. Wendy, who dog royal movies? I know,
- 37:37Speaker 1: I know, I know, I don't like royal movies and
- 37:41Speaker 1: I have very low expectations, but I thought the commercial
- 37:44Speaker 1: looks okay for it. Well, I'm excited to hear that. So,
- 37:48Speaker 1: as we said, next week is just One Kiss, which
