Speaker 1: Welcome to the Guitar Jet podcast, where you'll skyrocket your
• 0:03
Speaker 1: knowledge of theory, techniques, and fundamentals for guitar. Hey, y'all,
• 0:09
Speaker 1: it's Miles and welcome to the show.
• 0:12
Speaker 2: And today I'm going to give you a brief breakdown
• 0:14
Speaker 2: of the major pentatonic scale. This last week I did
• 0:19
Speaker 2: a YouTube guitar lesson of the major pentatonic scale where
• 0:22
Speaker 2: I broke down all five shapes and how to play
• 0:24
Speaker 2: them and how to construct the scale, and I thought
• 0:27
Speaker 2: i'd break down the theory a little bit more here
• 0:29
Speaker 2: on the podcast. So really, a major pentatonic scale is
• 0:34
Speaker 2: just like the major scale, but it only has five
• 0:37
Speaker 2: notes instead, So you have a root, a second, major third,
• 0:41
Speaker 2: a fifth, and a sixth, so you're taking away the
• 0:45
Speaker 2: seventh and the fourth and this gives you a very
• 0:49
Speaker 2: neutral harmony and it works well over any major chord type.
• 0:56
Speaker 2: So if you're playing over any type of major backing track,
• 1:00
Speaker 2: you can use the major pentatonic scale. And another thing
• 1:04
Speaker 2: with the major pentatonic scale is if you're very familiar
• 1:07
Speaker 2: with your minor pentatonic scale shape, one, let's say a
• 1:11
Speaker 2: minor pentatonic well where you place your pinky, which would
• 1:14
Speaker 2: be on the eighth fret. That's technically your major route note.
• 1:20
Speaker 2: So the relative major to a minor pentatonic would be
• 1:25
  Speaker 2: C major pentatonic. So if you're playing over a C
• 1:28
Speaker 2: major chord, you can play a minor pentatonic over that
• 1:32
Speaker 2: C major chord and that gives you the C major
• 1:36
Speaker 2: pentatonic scale. Anyways, that's the basics behind the theory, and
• 1:42
Speaker 2: if you want to learn more about it, check out
• 1:44
