A model solves the problem a PhD student had chosen for a thesis. Grant Sanderson's reflection on AI in mathematics lists what a mathematician does, why the subject is valued and where its funding comes from, and arrives at "never a better time to go into math"; a widely shared reply asks for sympathy for the student and the postdoc instead. Each puts a different priority first: the pursuit, or the career. The two track while the pursuit drives the career, and part ways once the order is reversed. For the pursuit, a faster engine is simply more mathematics.
