- 0:00SPEAKER_00: They're just noticing this crazy infestation of skunks.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Now, we have a perfect storm for it.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: We have food laying everywhere.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: We have the perfect dampness.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Our weather is in that mild mid-range area.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: A lot of the same things that make a raccoon love it here is what makes a skunk love it.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: And I never thought I would say this.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: I'll take a raccoon over a skunk all day long.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Because even though they're a little feisty, and you know, those I mean, the one at my house shot afterbirth all over my crawl space, and I'm I'm not happy about that either.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: But that still smells better than a skunk.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dude.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: And I've been sprayed, Drew.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, buddy, it's the PNW podcast, and we are back in the saddle.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: I had to fly solo for a day without Marcus.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Turned another year young today, is um, or I guess, you know, not today, because he was gone, but I'm looking at your face here, Marcus.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: You still got a little something left in the tank.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: So a lot of still a lot of black left in that beard.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Man, it feels good to still have this much black left in it when I start to see the little piles of white show up, and I'm I'm really selective with those.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: I get I get to trim in Drew.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: I'm not I'm not at just for men age yet, but I'm close.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: And you're known for the beard, so you know, like my everybody knows that the facial hair that I grow is like grass out of a sand trap.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Um and so there's not much to offer there.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And, you know, where I've done like the nose-shave November, which I hate, um, but I've done it before, and it's taste the rainbow with my face.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's like there's red and blonde and brown and black, and it's like I don't even know how how.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: It's all a little bit of everything, so it's probably best that I don't grow it and you do.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Uh, but happy belated birthday to you, and I'm glad you got a chance uh to be spoiled a little bit on your big day.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: I was supposed to see you over the weekend at the duck game, but I'm gonna be honest, I was pre-funking the game, and I had a real quick, let me just finish.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: We're at the Stafford Hills Club.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: It's a beautiful facility.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Check them out at Staffordhills.com.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: I'm getting ahead of myself.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I actually just spent some serious time in the sauna here, uh, just draining myself of what I'm about to talk about.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And that is I went to oh, staffordhills.com.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: I went over to, you know, like get prefunk for this thing.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: And anyone who knows me also knows that I really enjoy a hard seltzer at an event like this, but I I like the Kirkland ones.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I honestly like the Costco ones better than anything else that they sell.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: So I always bring my own to any party, barbecue, whatever, I don't expect them to have my silly specialty seltzer.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: So I always have a backpack cooler, and it sits in the car, and then when it comes that time, I'll go get my own, and it's fine.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: I'm self-sufficient.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Well, we're gonna pre-funk this thing, and we go to get into the car to go, and I'll I'll just be honest, it was a limousine, and we go to get into a limousine, and I'm and it's like, hey, you don't have to bring any seltzers.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: There's seltzers in the in the car.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, uh, I'll just bring them.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And they're like, no, no, no, no.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Why would you bring those?
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: They're in the car.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Just get in the car.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: So I get in, the door closes, I look over, and there's an ice box full of trulies.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Now, um, the diva in me just does not like a truly to start with.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: I'll drink it, but I I'm like, that the can looks weird.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: So I I reach over and I pull one of them out of the icebox.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: It's the only option in this car.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: It says truly unruly.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Oh god.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: And I didn't know what this is until I immediately go to the the the alcohol percentage, and they're 8.8%.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: And so Jesus, dude.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: These things are cooking.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And you know it's funny, and this is a lesson for anybody when they're dealing with alcohol.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: If I'm drinking in a social setting, I don't want more alcohol in my drink.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: I want to take my time, I want to relax my way through it.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: But that wasn't the option here.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: So I was and then when you get to a game, it's like, we're hurry up, we're getting out.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: You got you gotta finish that.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: This, that.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Or maybe it's my mind, Marcus saying that.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, you turn the thing up and spike a can or two, and just that alcohol percentage from five to eight something is a that is a distant voyage.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Dude, it's the difference between drinking an IPA and a seltzer.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: And and that's a thing for me.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: I got off the IPAs a couple of years ago because I I still drink them.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: I had one last night on my birthday.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: Like I won't lie to you, but I used to bring 12 packs of IPAs to the tailgates, and I can't do it anymore.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: A, because it's like drinking a pork chop for every single can.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: And and B, I would get too drunk.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: And I gotta be conscious this year because Ashley's not going to the games.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: My built-in designated driver does not exist anymore for me.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: So you're what you're talking about there could get me into some real trouble.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: And I yeah, I the other thing too with the Seltzers, and I don't know if you notice this with these ones, the the unrulies.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: I've never had one of those.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: I have had one of the white claw, you know, the blue can.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: And what I'll tell you is I get the same aftertaste that I get out of every malt liquor bottle that I've ever drank.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: And I can't, it it almost makes me sick because of all of the oldie and big bear I drank in my 20s.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: You 100% hit the the nail on the head right there.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: It is malt liquor.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: I can taste it as soon as it hits my mouth.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: I'm like, damn!
- 5:39unknown: I just don't want that.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: But I also, you know, you're a victim of circumstance.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And so you gonna do I'm sitting there, and it wasn't just me.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Everybody was having them, and you know, I found myself uh as the game, like because we got into the game and it was it didn't play out the way that everyone said it would.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Now, we said it here.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: I'm not touching a 27-point spread against Boise State.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: They just are too good, they've always been too good.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Coming into this, they they actually still had a lead on us on our all-time battle back and forth.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: And so I'm afraid of Boise State in a weird secret type of way.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: And it started to play out the way that it plays out.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: So then I'm just like kind of panicked and in my seat, and next thing I know, the game has gotten away from me, and I'm I'm having a lot more waters than I am uh anything else.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: I remember I actually I uh when I went to go get a water, someone was like, Did you just say you're having you're getting a water?
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: I'm like, Yeah, I'm hydrating my body.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm gonna get a water.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: It's like as soon as you order a water at a football game, if that's not what they're used to you doing, they think that you've like crossed the threshold too.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Like that you're too hammered to be here.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: It's funny.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: I had I got some funny looks from my friends because I, as again, you know, I'm gonna drink during the tailgate, I'm gonna shut the booze off once we get in the game.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: I'll be fine to drive home four hours later.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: Uh, but I pulled a I pulled a bottle of water out of my bag and I I emptied a liquid IV into it, and I got some looks from people that have known me for decades, Drew.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: And those looks, they didn't have to say a word because what those eyes said was, Who are you?
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: And uh I Mr.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Hydration Station, that's who I am today, and for the foreseeable future until my DD comes back.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Um, but man, I feel for you because if those, if that was the only thing there, I'll tell you my experience with them.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: If that was the only one there, I'm probably not even drinking because I can't like my body has a a visceral reaction to that malt liquor taste that we're talking about.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: And if you haven't, if you're wondering what we're talking about, go buy one this afternoon and drink it in the safety of your home, but you'll taste it and it's bad.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: It's not it's not my flavor choice at all.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: And and you know, I see people pick these things up, and it's like if you want to be here for the long run or you don't want to be the butt of the joke, don't do that.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Just like roll it back a notch and get something else because I could have you know a handful of the normal ones and I know where it's taking me, right?
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, if I get a feel a certain feeling, okay, back off the gas.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Well, these things, there's no idea, it's all gas, no breaks.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and for some reason they give you four ounces more of them.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Like a regular seltzer comes in a 12-ounce can, but these juiced up malt liquor ones all seem to come in 16-ounce cans, which is just doubling down on your bad decision, you know?
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: It it doesn't make sense to me.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: It's it's the kind of thing you would pick up at a convenience store if you s live outside.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: And I don't I don't think that's best uh for me until I find myself living outside.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Now uh the game did finally kind of come back together, and the ducks were able to squeeze out a victory in the end.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: It wasn't uh decisive, it leaves a lot of questions.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: What's your takeaway there, other than we escaped um the defeat?
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, I hate to see all the overreaction.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: I know Oregon's gonna drop in the poll now, and everybody has, you know, there's there's even people, Andy Staples, uh big-time college football analyst, has officially dropped Oregon out of the playoff, Drew, after winning their week one game against another team that he has making the playoff.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: So the overreaction is is Bush League, it's it's bunk.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Um, did Oregon play below its standard?
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: We're breaking in two new coordinators, and it looked kind of like we were throwing the whole playbook at him for a little bit.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: I don't know why we're running a double pass um down in sort of the the the big red area and and you know, should have been a touchdown, just an underthrown ball, and our guy couldn't pull it in.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: But little things like that, the muffed punt, clearly a missed call for kick catch interference.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: You get a yard, the guy was on top of him.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: We lose that, they go down and score.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: That's seven right there.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: You're talking about if that play is correctly called, maybe we win this game by 14.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Um, I I don't know.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna overreact here.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Oregon, historically, since Dan Lanning got here, has kind of stumbled out of the gates a few times.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Um, it doesn't mean that we're not gonna go hang 70 on Portland State again in a couple of weeks.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: It doesn't mean that we can't hang 50 on Oklahoma State at uh at their house this week.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: So um was I nervous?
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna lie to you and tell you that I wasn't uh biting my nails up in the stands, but when they pulled it out, one that 61-yard touchdown by DeCorey Moore in the fourth quarter, that's what we should look like, and we know it's there.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: Just gotta find it.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and 11 penalties in the first half.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: It's just the a calamity of airs and you know, some calls good, some calls bad, but you gotta find a way to battle through that.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: I think it it gives them some early look at adversity.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: And you know, it's the worst is when we win, win, win, win, win, and then we run into a good team and get our get just completely titty-whipped.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: So th this is the type of situation that we find ourselves in.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: I also think Boise State's gonna be a a pretty good team this year.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: I think they'll finish the season ranked.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: And we'll see.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: I think you might see them come into a ranking with the loss.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, maybe they won't give it to him this week, but after they they get the next two, if they go two and one, you'll find them in the rankings after how they played against Oregon.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: And a tip of the cap for them using our own medicine against us, um, did you see Boise State dancing their their butts off to the shout song at the end of the quarter?
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: I thought that was a smart move to kind of keep that morale going.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: And it's straight out of the Dan Lanning playbook.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: We uh we saw it uh last year at Wisconsin when Jump Around came on, or maybe it was two years ago.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Uh the players are jumping around.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: And I I loved what uh um Jamari Johnson said, our tight end said afterwards, like, hey, you can't get on them for having their fun, but that pissed me off.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: And I've I think all 60,000 of us felt the same way.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: It's like, I'm glad that you enjoy our stadium traditions, and I want everybody to have a good time when they come here, but I want them to leave with a black eye, metaphorically, on the football field.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: And I'm really glad that we didn't let them get away with that.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Because yeah, we were uh we were a bit hot up there.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: It's a good thing they put us 55 rows up, Drew.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Otherwise, some of us might have made our way down to the field because it was a little bit angry.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, things were tense at that point in the game.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, we weren't, you know, if we're up by 30, we're like, get ahead and have a little dancer whiskey.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: But we found ourselves in a situation where we went, we're not having fun with you guys.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: And I was looking out in the crowd, the Boise State fans were having so much fun for three quarters of that thing.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: Um, and you know, they seem to be somewhat gracious.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: They're not like Ohio State fans who are just terrible to be around.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: I saw that they lugged along that giant potato.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Did you see that outside?
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: I didn't see it up close, but I saw some pictures of that thing.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Massive, massive thing.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, if you're gonna be proud of a potato, that's the one you want to be proud of, Drew.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: That's the way I'll look at it.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: It's Idaho, Martin.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: This is what they've got.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: You know what we've got here in the uh the city of Portland?
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: We've got a skunk problem kicking off.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Did you hear about this?
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: I didn't, man, but I have dealt with skunks in my time and uh don't feel for you, but let's hear it.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, so the Selwood area is particularly bad.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: So you cross the Selwood Bridge over to the east side over kind of by where Oaks Park is, where we were talking about just uh a week ago or so, and they're just noticing this crazy infestation of skunks.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Now, we have a perfect storm for it.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: We have food laying everywhere, we have um the perfect dampness, our weather is in that mild mid-range area.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: A lot of the same things that make a raccoon love it here is what makes a skunk love it.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: And I never thought I would say this, having dealt with multiple raccoon infestations.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: I'll take a raccoon over a skunk all day long.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Because even though they're they're a little feisty, and you know, those I mean, the one at my house shot afterbirth all over my crawl space, and I'm I'm not happy about that either.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: But that still smells better than a skunk.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dude.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: And I've been sprayed, Drew.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: I've walked right five feet from a baby skunk, which the those ones don't spray as much as they kind of shoot.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Like it wasn't a mist.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: I got hit three times like I was getting shot.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: And I am sure if you'd have seen this at the campground I was at at three in the morning, I would have been doing the worst like 80s getting shot, you know, from an action movie.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: It hit me in the uh upper left shoulder, kind of right in the center of the chest, and one right down in the stomach, and I had three big stains on my shirt from where it hit, but throw everything away.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, there was nothing I could do.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: It was my favorite shirt, my favorite pair of board shorts, and I had to throw it all away, done.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: And um, the thing that sucks about it, I dealt with them at my house as a kid, and well, my dad dealt with them.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: And you can trap a raccoon and you can take a raccoon out to the woods and you can let it go to live its best life.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: If you trap a skunk, you gotta drown it.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: That's the only way that thing's coming out of its trap without spraying everybody and everything around it.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: And that's the worst part, is it's really hard to do anything that you know takes the skunk and relocates it without everybody going home smelling like a skunk.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: And so they they just don't really deal with it when it gets bad.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: They trap them and kill them, and and I, you know, who knows what they're gonna do in Portland.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: I'm sure they're probably just gonna section off an area of the city and give it to them.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Uh they they definitely get their own area, and then there'll be a community bike ride around it.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: So I don't know, man.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: I we had skunks used to eat like 40-pound bags of cat food out in our shed because we had an outdoor cat as a kid.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: And these things would tear into that and eat the whole bag in a night.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: And then, I mean, hey, they're real easy to trap when they do that.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: And they're all sloty.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: But uh, not something I would want to be a part of, man.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: I hope that's a ways away from where you reside.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it it is, but it's not too far away in the grand scheme of things.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: If it's starting to infest there, it's gonna come over.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: I am on the other side of the river, which helps uh a little bit.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: But if it's anything like the rules with raccoons, it's so frustrating.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: Because, you know, I I get your pro life with all your stuff with your raccoons, and you know, if you have that argument, that's fine.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: But when when when they are destroying your home, you you are trapping them.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: And so I've trapped them in a live trap, and God, they're so pissed.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, they're feisty.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: But then if you call animal control or you call the city and you're like, hey, what do I do with this thing?
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: They will not come pick it up.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: It is illegal for you to take it off into another foreign land and drop it off, and it's illegal for you to kill it.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: So tell me what I'm supposed to do.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: You know, and so the one the time I had it in a live trap, that little rascal got himself out of it through that night after I'd been through all that, and he actually did me a a service because I had nothing, I had no recourse.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Everything I wanted to do to get him out of my yard was either illegal or not gonna be a part of the deal.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: It's ridiculous.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: It's so stupid.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: And and I guess the what's what happens with that type of policy is you get to s have people stop calling animal control for the things they for the animals they need controlled, because you're gonna tell me I can't take this thing out into our vast wilderness in this state and just let it go and let it be, or you you would rather I I don't do that and I let it go in the neighborhood where it's a lot more likely to get hit by a car or contract disease or whatever the case may be.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, people resort to, okay, well, I'll just shoot it then, or I'll just, I'll, I won't live trap it.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: I'll poison it, I'll kill it.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: And it's like, what do you want?
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Would you rather have to clean up a hundred dead poisoned raccoons, or would you rather come get this live trap, drive 20 miles, and open it?
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: You know, it's a it that it doesn't make sense to me because I see what happens on the other side.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, where I was from, there was no animal control.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Like that was the fish and game cop, and he was out doing fish and game cop stuff.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: He didn't have time to come to your house.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: He's like, are you really asking me this?
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Deal with it.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: You got a gun, right?
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: And it's like, no, he didn't want to kill it.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: So we we take him out and release them, and you never deal with them again.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: This is not a barn cat.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Now, we did have a uh feral barn cat that my dad drove 50 miles away from our house and let go and showed back up like three weeks later over Hill and Dale.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: But the raccoons they won't do that.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: And I I think in skunks, I mean, what are you gonna do about skunks?
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna have that same mindset for skunks that you have for raccoons, well, you can't kill it, you can't relocate it.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Okay, so they just own the block now because that's what they'll do.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: And here's what's worse for you, Mark, is especially as a dog lover and a double dog dad, um, the most of the reports aren't from them spraying any humans.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: It's they're coming in contact with house pets who are going to defend their area and they're getting sprayed, and then your dog, it's in their fur in your house, yeah, and you can't just throw your dog away.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: So you've got this situation where they're really screwing you good, and and Selwood is taking it right on the chops.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'll tell you with the dog, I I haven't had one sprayed, but my dad's dog has been sprayed before.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: And if you have a pet that, like my Corgi's, isn't really into baths, like they'll take them because we spread peanut butter on the wall and they just get to lick peanut butter for a while.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, but they hate baths, and to get skunk juice out of them, you gotta wash them with like tomato juice.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's a real bad process.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: And when you have a like a yellow lab and you wash it with tomato juice, then you take it on a walk, everybody's like, oh, they're beating that dog.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: It's clearly covered in blood.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Uh so there's no stick out.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, dude, there's no one who's dead.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: See, I wouldn't even know the first part about that.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: That's the country part of you.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: You you know how to get it out at least.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: But if you guys come to town, Marcus, you keep your dogs away from Selwood.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: I will do it.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: The podcast is brought to you by Motorsport Hillsborough, where they have you dialed in.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Not only do they have incredible selection when it comes to everything from bikes, both road and dirt bikes, but also you've got the e-Assist mountain bikes there.

- 20:33SPEAKER_00: They've got it dialed for you right there at Motorsport Hillsboro.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: And really, the thing that makes it all work is they've got the greatest financing around the Northwest, and nobody works harder to make sure they get you dialed in and you leave feeling comfortable and happy when you walk out of Motorsport Hillsboro.

- 20:56SPEAKER_00: And it's a mini museum down there.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: Look up in the rafters, spend some time.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Don't just come in for a dip and go.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: It's the kind of place where uh there is no price at admission, but it feels like there should be because it is incredible in there, and Scott and the gang will take care of you and get you out riding in no time.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: Also brought to you by Axiom Plumbing, Sewer and Septic, all things water and waste.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: They've got you covered right there.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: And my buddy Bruce over at Axiom is locally raised, and he is not part of some big private equity form firm.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: He is live and local right here in the Northwest, and they will dial you in.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: And if you tell them Drew sent you 10% off your first service, and it is starting to get into those colder months, it's right there on the horizon.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: So don't forget$500 off a new water heater if you're running into that.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: I was just dealing with that recently, and Bruce and the gang are the perfect people to take care of you.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: Just tell them that I sent you all the details about what they can do for you at axiompdx.com.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: And brought to you by the Stafford Hills Club, which is the premier place in the Portland area to work out, relax, and just kind of take care of yourself.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: It's a sense of community around here, and they hold the door for you.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: They do all the things they want to see you at Stafford Hills.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: They have top-end tennis, a saltwater pool, great workout facilities, and all the greatest classes you could imagine.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: And of course, Hyrux training, the premier cutting edge stuff, and it's all happening right here at Stafford Hills.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Check out all the details on what's going down at Staffordhills.com.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: All right, so some drama popped off at Providence Park.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: You may have seen this, uh, Marcus, but um, eight people were ejected from Providence Park during a Thorns game.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Now, the Portland Thorns, I'll tell you, I've taken my oldest daughter when she went with her soccer team to a Thorns game.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: We had so much fun.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: They do a great job.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like they do with baseball, where it's an event and everyone's having a great time and they've got the colored smoke when they score goals.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, we were right in the wind pattern, so I'm pretty sure I got popcorn lung out of it.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: Um, but we had a good time out there.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Now, not so much of a good time for some people last night who were thrown out of the game, eight people at Providence Park, for wearing uh apparel that said save women's sports and some other messages on the front of the shirts.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Now, they were confronted by security and given what they're calling a code of conduct notice and were escorted out.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: Now, the reason why this thing goes viral straight away, and I can see the writing on the wall when you just kind of look at it from 10,000 feet down with that what you don't want to support women's sports?
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: Well, the argument on the other side, and I I'll be honest with you, I don't have a dog in this fight.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: I'm just kind of like the guy on the sideline with some popcorn trying to watch and understand what's happening.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: Um, but I am highly uh it's very Portland what's happened here.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: Um the fact that these people, both men and women, the eight total were not all women, but it's their message was save women's sports, and it does associate also with women's sports or women's sports.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: And we all know the argument, and uh, whether it's um you know, born a woman or not is the argument that goes back and forth.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: We saw the the ex-MBA player and ex-trailblazer, uh Ennis Cantor getting thrown out of a game for supporting the same type of an argument.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: Now, what the NWSL, which is the soccer league, says is that the rules were broken that it it had reflected certain political advocacy that they don't want at the games.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: That's the argument there.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: Now my immediate pushback is it's the only sporting events, also the Timbers, where you have massive flags, like rainbow flags and different things where people are supporting their own agenda and their own beliefs, and that is fine, but this is not.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: And so I'm a little confused at what the rules are.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: And before you answer, I just want to put one other thing in front of you for food for thought.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: This is a publicly owned building.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: This is owned by the city that is rented out privately for games.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna talk about a second incident that was at a private business, but this is a public building under private contract, right?
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: Just food for thought.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: Well, that's you've you've already hit the nail on the head when you're talking about the inherent problem here, Drew.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: And it doesn't matter what you know, hot button issue you put in this scenario.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: What you've got here is you've got a publicly owned space and you've got somebody that's renting it out that is taking it upon themselves to decide what's right and what's wrong, and who is allowed to support their cause and who is not.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: And that's where the whole thing falls apart.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: That's where it falls apart every single instance that we talk about.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: This is who are you putting in charge of saying what who can and who can't?
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: And why is that person the arbiter of our rights to free speech as Americans?
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: And the the answer is there is no answer.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: And that person cannot be.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: It's either all or it's nothing.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: There is no splitting hairs when it comes to your First Amendment right to express yourself.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: And just because you don't like the argument, regardless of what it is, doesn't give you your organization or your publicly owned space the right to excommunicate somebody from it.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: You see it a lot of times with the protests.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Whatever might be protesting, what always happens, Drew, that the counter-protesters show up, the guy that's fighting the exact opposite battle that you are, fighting against whatever, and you end up in the park at the same time, and somebody wearing a shirt that says security walks up and says, You can't be here.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Well, because they have the permit.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: That doesn't matter.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: This is public property.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: I can be here.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: Just because I'm making people uncomfortable does not mean that I lose my right to express myself.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Um, and and I'm telling you right now, from both sides of the fence here, whether you're deep red, deep blue, or some shade of purple, that matters for everybody.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: You don't want one person or one group or one organization being able to strip you of those rights.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: And I say that is being able to strip you as something that fundamentally makes you an American citizen.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Um, there is nobody that has all the answers.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: There is nobody that knows all the right things.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: You need to hear things that are not what you agree with.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: Otherwise, this thing goes downhill and goes downhill fast.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: So uh mishandled here, I think, by the maybe it was the organization, maybe it was the stadium.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know who's who uh staffs the security.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: But I'm reading here, Drew, from Coin Six, just one quick excerpt from Providence Park's website.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: It says if someone interferes with your enjoyment of a game, please immediately contact guest services representative in your area for assistance.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: But that is like so.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: If if I go to a game at Providence Park and there's an opposing fan sitting next to me, and I don't like the fact that he just keeps standing up every time his team does good, I can go to a park representative and cause problems for this guy?
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: What the hell are we doing?
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: This is a sporting event.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: People talk shit.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: People get upset, they root for their team.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: And and you're saying that if anyone interferes with your perfect day, we can go get them involved with guest services.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: That is a slippery slope, Drew.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I would like the entire away section ejected immediately because they are not rooting for the thorns.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: They can't notice wrong, man.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: They're booing when we do well.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: Can you believe it?
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: There is nobody has a right to kick somebody out because they're not having a good time.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: Because everybody has a different opinion.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: And personally, I would never get somebody kicked out for what was on their shirt, even if I hated it.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: I it is so important that you have an ability to speak up on your point, even if it's completely moronic.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: If you are just a ding-dong, I still you're hurting yourself by getting all bent out of shape.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: And there are people, and I am an inclusive person.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: You're you whoever you want to love, you can love.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: And that's that's my thing.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: That's how I raise my children.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: I love that you're happy, and that's what I want.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: But don't get it twisted for one second that there isn't somebody in the crowd who doesn't like your rainbow flag, somebody who has deep-rooted religious purpose in them, who has all these different ideals than you is completely offended.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: But guess what?
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: They don't get to tell you you can't have your flag.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Which is the same reason that you can't tell them that they can't have a shirt.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: And now, granted, if you have racist things written on your shirt, or if or if you're if you are spewing hate, then that's different.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: You're putting people at risk if you're doing that in a public space.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: You have a right to say what you want whenever you want.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: But when it comes to, you know, absolute hate, there's more of an argument there than this is how I feel on a topic.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: And it's and it's as simple as support women's sports.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: I don't want to be in the argument fighting with somebody at Providence Park personally, but it's your argument.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: That's your thing, not mine.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: And and so, like you said, if we are gonna split hairs and decide who gets to represent themselves and who gets to be upset, now we've defeated the entire reason why we're Americans.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: And that's true.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: It's pathetic.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: And this goes on, Marcus, because five of the eight people then went to go get some dinner at the sports bra, which, if you're not from here, the sports bra made national news where it is a it's a women's sports-friendly bar that's basically the whole game plan is to support women's sports, and that works out.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Well, it's a little ironic when a group of five women now who have gone in there, ordered food, they've gotten their drinks, and somebody else in the bar was offended because they saw the shirts, and I'm sure it's a runoff of what they know happened at Providence Park, and they're offended and want them to leave, and so what does the bartender do?
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: Well, she goes viral by grabbing all their drinks, kicking them out and saying, I'm calling the police if you're not willing to leave.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: And so now it's happened not just at Providence Park, the public building.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: It's also happened at a private establishment which does ref reserve the right to refuse service to anyone they want.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: But I just think it's a little messed up when you're when your mission statement is to support women, and shouldn't that be all of them?
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you just airlifted five of them out of one of the most inclusive spaces that they thought they had in the city of Portland.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh when it comes to female sports fans, you know?
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: One of them was wearing a rainbow scarf.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: It's not like she's not part of part of the team that's arguing here.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, like I said, I'm not educated on it enough to be the some divisive or decisive answer.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: It's a much more complicated thing, but it's very Portland that we're we're eating our own in the conversation half of the time.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: And let me ask you this as the person who did was the one that just had their belly full of it at the sports bra, couldn't take it anymore, and had to go up and say something and put the bartender in that position.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: Because again, if you'd have just left it alone and just, you know, how many times have you been at a restaurant sitting down to have a burger or some pasta, and there is a loud asshole over in the corner, and he's kind of making an impact on your night, or there is a crying child, any number of things that could happen.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: There is a cook in the back that is screaming at his staff.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: And you know what 99.9% of us do?
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: We take a deep breath, we put it out of our minds, and we enjoy the people sitting in front of us in the environment that we're going to create as the as the people that we are here in our group.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: You could have done that.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: You could have been the guy that just said, you know what, it's a shirt.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: I don't care.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: I see five shirts every day that I would never wear, but that doesn't mean that that guy can't wear it.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Like, that's the point.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: Where did you, where did we as a society decide you're hurting my feelings?
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: And those to me are very real, so you can't do that anymore.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: That ain't how it works, sweetheart.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: You get to hurt feelings.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: That's why we're where we're at.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: I get to put on a shirt that says F whoever I want it to say F, and I can go out in public and you just have to deal with it because you can put on one that says F the guy that I like.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Your feelings are real, but they're only real to you.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: Remember that the next time you ruin somebody's night by having them escorted out because you don't like the shirt that they have on.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: It's the it's the biggest bitch move, and I don't care where it comes from, what side.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: You're mad about a shirt, go look in the mirror and have a conversation with yourself about things that do matter.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: Because I'm with you.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: I I think it's less about the topic, even, and it's more about just the point.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: And the point is that we should all be able to express ourselves and to point at some bylaw, you know, oh, rule 28-C, you know, section four says no political statements.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: There has never been a game at any stadium where somebody didn't have a shirt with a political statement on it.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: You could have a face of Ronald Reagan, that's a political statement.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: Or it might not be the most aggressive one, but it's one.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: You have to leave.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: Does somebody who it says something about, you know, about uh how we need to free a certain society or this or that.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: If it's deemed positive in your mind, it's fine.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: But if it's negative in your mind, now it's a political statement.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: And now it's got to go.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you what we should do, Drew.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: If we really want to see the other side of this, you and I should go uh to every Portland sporting event and start saying that the Che Guevara shirts uh offend us and see how they'll clear out a whole section of Portlanders wearing that guy on their shirt, uh, because it's the same thing, right?
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: It's like you you're you're wearing something that may be uncomfortable.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: It's the principle of the thing.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: You don't get to decide.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: If you're uncomfortable, like I said, your feelings are very real, but you have to sit with those.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: That's another thing that Americans have to do.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: Figure it out.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: Take action if you want to.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: You're well, you're well within your rights to do that.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: But ruining people's day because you don't agree with them, this bullshit has got to stop, man.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: And it's uh it's the same thing with getting people canceled because you don't like what they say.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: Well, the internet's a cesspool full of bad ideas.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: So if we can either cancel everybody or we can let everybody keep flinging their bullshit into it, those are the two options, and we're not taking the first one.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and stop being so offended all the time because life is offensive.
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: The internet is extra offensive.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's it's a hybrid offense.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: So if you want it that way, you can have it that way.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: Just let people have their own opinion.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: And if you don't point it out, it probably would have got a lot less legs than it did.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: If you hate this statement, you didn't do your job.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: Because guess what?
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: Now they told the world what they were trying to say.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: Eight people at a place with 15 or 20,000 people inside, good job.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: You you made your point, not at all.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: Because now their entire message is out there.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: That being said, I don't care which side of the message it is.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying, let's be fair and let's be even.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: If we're going to do that one way, let's do it the other way.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: And if we're going to if we're gonna call security every time we're offended, I'm pretty sure you would put my three-year-old in a slingshot at a Timbers game and launch him over the Mac Club because she can be offensive.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: She's loud, she spills drinks.
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: Good jolly.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you don't want to hear what comes out of Drew's mouth after he's gotten unruly on those truly speakers.
