- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM 640, the Bill Handel show
- 0:04Speaker 1: on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Good Thursday morning to you, Neil Saavedra and the morning
- 0:11Speaker 2: crew with you. We've got new clay at the board
- 0:16Speaker 2: and helping with producing today. How are you, sir? I'm
- 0:19Speaker 2: doing well. I'm wearing new pants today and nobody has
- 0:23Speaker 2: said that they like them.
- 0:25Speaker 3: You know what? I was behind you in the hallway
- 0:27Speaker 3: when we were walking down the hall, and I was thinking,
- 0:28Speaker 3: I like those pants. Those are nice.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Thank you. They're bright red, and I'm taking a risk today.
- 0:34Speaker 2: You know what? At least we don't smell them. Thank you.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Thank you, Will. Will you do me a favor, buddy?
- 0:39Speaker 2: Take off your headphones and walk over here. Give me
- 0:42Speaker 2: a little spin, will you? New clay has got new pants.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I did not see them, but I'll be honest with you.
- 0:48Speaker 2: I think I know the problem. Wow, you are taking
- 0:52Speaker 2: a risk. They're loose, too. Yeah, baggy. Yeah, baggy. You
- 0:58Speaker 2: could bring a couple friends with you. Okay. No, that's nice,
- 1:06Speaker 2: but I'm going to tell you why people don't say anything.
- 1:09Speaker 2: All right, hold on. Because, you know, you're sitting down.
- 1:14Speaker 2: No one sees your pants, buddy. Ah, yes, that's true.
- 1:18Speaker 2: But Anne's not here today. I've had to print several things. Uh-oh,
- 1:21Speaker 2: who's a big boy? Look at you. I'll get over it. Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 2: Anne could not be here today, so she pretty much
- 1:30Speaker 2: just produces the show wherever she is. I mean, she
- 1:33Speaker 2: could be, I don't know, up in a spaceship being
- 1:38Speaker 2: spirited away from this planet, and she would still be
- 1:41Speaker 2: producing the show.
- 1:42Speaker 3: This morning, she is in mourning. Oh, why?
- 1:45Speaker 2: Because?
- 1:46Speaker 3: Padres lost last night. They're out.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but she was planned to be out.
- 1:52Speaker 3: No, she's the huge Padres fan.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah, but didn't she plan to be out today?
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe she had a premonition.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Oh, no. Wow, says the Dodgers girl poking at her.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Good morning, Amy King.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Good morning.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Good morning. Well, good and bad news for you then, right? Yeah.
- 2:10Speaker 2: So the Dodgers move forward. However, that means game five
- 2:15Speaker 2: of that series is not going to happen.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Exactly. And I had tickets to game five.
- 2:22Speaker 2: But I say, you know, put them in loose side
- 2:24Speaker 2: or something. I mean. I don't know. Put them on
- 2:27Speaker 2: a wall.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 3: The game that never was.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Yeah. I almost was there. I almost went. It is
- 2:36Speaker 2: good enough, right?
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Sure.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Will, how are you, sir? Good morning. I'm doing well.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I'm wearing the same pants I always do. Oh, good.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I mean, I've cleaned them, of course. I won't ask
- 2:48Speaker 2: you to come do a spin. You'd be bored. But
- 2:50Speaker 2: I will tell you. KFI Fashion Show. The what? KFI
- 2:54Speaker 2: Fashion Show. Oh, yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Pout.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Pat work it work it duck lips and the uh
- 3:02Speaker 2: mom of kfi uh executive producer michelle q brought in
- 3:08Speaker 2: what can only be described as a um as a
- 3:13Speaker 2: bounty this morning of mcdonald's sandwiches so they are in
- 3:17Speaker 2: uh air mix if anybody's hungry get them while they're
- 3:22Speaker 2: warm and um At any time, that is a really
- 3:27Speaker 2: nice thing to do, right? That's a very kind thing
- 3:29Speaker 2: to do. But it's even more kind when you think
- 3:32Speaker 2: the cost of McDonald's right now, $ 475 for six sandwiches.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So please make sure you give her your love. Very
- 3:45Speaker 2: generous and kind of her. And it just hit the spot,
- 3:48Speaker 2: you know? Something about those Egg McMuffins.
- 3:51Speaker 3: You know, there's something addictive about them. Like you take
- 3:54Speaker 3: a bite and you're like, oh my God, it's so good.
- 3:56Speaker 3: I have to have another bite now. Yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Well, because they're warm and they're, you know. And then
- 4:01Speaker 2: you have to do like a two to one ratio.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Two bites of the sandwich, one of the hash brown.
- 4:08Speaker 2: You got to mix it up. You get a little
- 4:10Speaker 2: bit of the crunch in the potato. When my boy
- 4:14Speaker 2: Max was a little baby, I'd walk him down to
- 4:16Speaker 2: the local McDonald's. I'd get a hash brown and I'd
- 4:21Speaker 2: scoop the soft center ones out, the pale ones, and
- 4:26Speaker 2: just put a little bit. He would nom, nom, nom, nom,
- 4:29Speaker 2: nom to the point where, you know, we were there
- 4:32Speaker 2: all the time and the women behind the counter would
- 4:36Speaker 2: throw one in regardless. They'd comp me the little baby
- 4:42Speaker 2: one for little Maxie for him to gnaw on his
- 4:47Speaker 2: little toothless self. Yeah. Still enjoys them to this day.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Like that's like all he'll order at McDonald's. Just get
- 4:56Speaker 2: me one of those.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Just hash browns?
- 4:58Speaker 2: He does like just the hash browns sometimes.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Their hash browns are good.
- 5:01Speaker 2: They are very tasty. They are yummy for your tummy,
- 5:05Speaker 2: as we say on The Fork Report. All right. Let's
- 5:08Speaker 2: get to Handle on the News with Amy King and me,
- 5:11Speaker 2: Neal Saavedra. Lead story. This is good news. Apparently our
- 5:21Speaker 2: president won't let Iran strike L.A. or San Diego. Not
- 5:26Speaker 2: going to let that happen. You can't be the arsonist
- 5:30Speaker 2: and put out the fire and say you're a hero.
- 5:33Speaker 2: But I'm glad he added context to it. So President
- 5:39Speaker 2: Trump told a crowd in Texas yesterday night. of course
- 5:43Speaker 2: he's making the rounds before the midterms here, but, um, the, he,
- 5:49Speaker 2: he said he would not allow Iran to attack San
- 5:51Speaker 2: Diego or Los Angeles, which is nice because we have
- 5:54Speaker 2: so many military bases, probably not good. Um, just, he
- 6:00Speaker 2: said he, this is after two days after, so he
- 6:03Speaker 2: made those off the cuff remarks. Uh, He says, you
- 6:09Speaker 2: want to see a horror show? You want to see problems?
- 6:12Speaker 2: Let them hit San Diego. Let them hit Los Angeles
- 6:15Speaker 2: at the rally. He then assured the crowd, we're not
- 6:18Speaker 2: going to let that happen. We protect our cities. We
- 6:21Speaker 2: protect our country. San Antonio crowd cheered with the remarks.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I'm going to say, and God on him, that anything
- 6:32Speaker 2: he says in front of a crowd that has come.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Out is unexpected. So many questions, not many answers. The
- 6:43Speaker 3: World Health Organization says it does not currently have enough
- 6:46Speaker 3: information from Russia to do a full risk assessment after
- 6:52Speaker 3: a young woman died of what may have been the
- 6:56Speaker 3: plague at a lab in Siberia. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus
- 7:01Speaker 3: is the director general of the WHO. He says they
- 7:05Speaker 3: have asked the Russian Federation for more information about The
- 7:09Speaker 3: Russian Federation said, well, there's no case of plague recently
- 7:12Speaker 3: reported in the southeastern Siberian area, but about 200 contacts
- 7:18Speaker 3: have been placed in quarantine.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I don't know. Hard to get real information.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Why not just admit to it?
- 7:27Speaker 2: Out of Russia. And if we have any cameras out there,
- 7:32Speaker 2: you're going to see one guy in a trench coat.
- 7:35Speaker 2: and an umbrella walk into that building and then walk
- 7:37Speaker 2: out and everybody's going to be dead or sick. That's
- 7:40Speaker 2: how they do it in Russia. Like the poison tip umbrellas,
- 7:44Speaker 2: get in, get out, done. New information coming out, U.S.
- 7:50Speaker 2: has lost or sustained damage to 81 military aircraft. So
- 7:57Speaker 2: that's $ 3. 3 billion in the Iran war. And this is
- 8:02Speaker 2: from a congressional report Now, that's what happens in war.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I expect there to be damage of anything that we
- 8:14Speaker 2: use out in that area. I'm not sure what you
- 8:17Speaker 2: compare it to. You know, I'm not sure what you
- 8:20Speaker 2: put that up against to say whether that's a butt
- 8:22Speaker 2: ton or not. But that's what war does. It breaks
- 8:26Speaker 2: things and kills people. It's unfortunate.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Mexican mafia right here in L.A. A suspected Mexican mafia
- 8:37Speaker 3: associate opened fire on a vehicle in a neighborhood in Pomona,
- 8:44Speaker 3: sprayed it with more than a dozen bullets, shot it
- 8:48Speaker 3: at a person who had allegedly been marked for death
- 8:50Speaker 3: over a debt to the notorious prison gang. That shooting
- 8:55Speaker 3: was in July of this year, part of a larger
- 8:58Speaker 3: murder conspiracy and extortion scheme that led to charges against
- 9:01Speaker 3: nine people. The months-long investigation culminated yesterday when authorities arrested
- 9:08Speaker 3: six suspects and served search warrants that, along with earlier searches,
- 9:13Speaker 3: resulted in the seizure of about $ 200, 000 in cash, methamphetamine,
- 9:17Speaker 3: 11 weapons with missing or obliterated serial numbers, commonly known
- 9:22Speaker 3: as ghost guns. Nice to know the Mexican mafia is
- 9:26Speaker 3: in town.
- 9:27Speaker 2: La Eme has been in town for some time. Interesting
- 9:30Speaker 2: fun fact. The original logo for the Jesus Christ show
- 9:35Speaker 2: and the symbol for La Lame, very similar to where
- 9:42Speaker 2: a head of security there at, where was it? Q, Upstate.
- 9:52Speaker 2: He reached out to me many, many years ago and said, hey,
- 9:55Speaker 2: by the way, I said, it'll be changed. We'll move on.
- 10:00Speaker 2: from that that's okay uh what a good time it's
- 10:03Speaker 2: been though uh hanging out with the morning crew as
- 10:05Speaker 2: you know uh we lost uh our board op and
- 10:10Speaker 2: technical engineer yesterday not not from death he's still alive
- 10:14Speaker 2: he just uh left us to go on to something
- 10:16Speaker 2: else so Our first day without Kono, but it's all right.
- 10:20Speaker 2: We have the ever weird and easy to question life
- 10:25Speaker 2: decisions of new clay.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 10:29Speaker 2: As always. Oh, yeah. All right. Let's get back to
- 10:32Speaker 2: handle on the news with Amy King and me. So
- 10:39Speaker 2: affectionately referred to by, if you've ever heard this before,
- 10:43Speaker 2: Petrus and Money on our sister station, AM570 LA Sports,
- 10:48Speaker 2: they refer to as Jeannie with a weenie in front
- 10:51Speaker 2: of her. And she laughs. She thinks it's hilarious. Jeannie Buss,
- 10:55Speaker 2: her siblings are going after her. They voted to sell
- 10:59Speaker 2: the family's shares of the Lakers. They filed a formal
- 11:02Speaker 2: opposition letter. to Team Governor, which is Jeannie Bass, their sister,
- 11:07Speaker 2: and her attempts to block the sale. This all went
- 11:10Speaker 2: down yesterday, was the latest, calling Jeannie's petition legally and
- 11:14Speaker 2: factually baseless in a statement that they gave at the time.
- 11:18Speaker 2: So it says, while discussions among the siblings continue, their
- 11:22Speaker 2: focus remains on facilitating the proposed transaction and the trust's
- 11:27Speaker 2: participation in it. while ensuring that all beneficiaries, including Jeannie,
- 11:33Speaker 2: are treated equally. Well, so said Jimmy, Johnny, Jeannie, Joey,
- 11:39Speaker 2: and Jesse Buss. What a family. But I will tell you,
- 11:47Speaker 2: I only met her once at Petros and Money on
- 11:50Speaker 2: their summer tour. She seems absolutely delightful. I mean, you
- 11:56Speaker 2: don't know somebody that way. But you just get, you
- 12:00Speaker 2: can tell if someone's putting on airs, which bugs me.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Nothing bugs me worse. Just be yourself. You can be
- 12:08Speaker 2: silly or joking about who you are. But, you know.
- 12:14Speaker 2: We got a good vibe from Jennifer. Yeah, she just did.
- 12:17Speaker 2: It's like, it's delightful. Lovely looking lady, effervescent. Just, I
- 12:23Speaker 2: don't know, seem nice. I don't know anything about what's
- 12:26Speaker 2: going on, nor I do sports, but. I hope they
- 12:29Speaker 2: all work it out. Family stuff sucks once you become
- 12:31Speaker 2: an adult.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Well, yeah, and I was trying to figure out why
- 12:33Speaker 3: they don't just say, fine, just keep it, Jeannie, because
- 12:37Speaker 3: you're supposed to be part of the team for the
- 12:38Speaker 3: rest of your life. Well, their shares, if they sell them,
- 12:41Speaker 3: are worth $ 2. 2 billion.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a money grab, and that's the way it
- 12:46Speaker 2: always goes down. We're dealing with my mom as she
- 12:50Speaker 2: gets older and sick. It's harder to be by herself.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Seven kids. And I have this theory about tribes. So,
- 13:03Speaker 2: and I was trying to explain this to my mom
- 13:04Speaker 2: because we all have different ideas as to where it
- 13:06Speaker 2: should be done. And it's kind of parsed almost down
- 13:10Speaker 2: the middle of the family. And I was explaining to her,
- 13:16Speaker 2: we're tribal creatures. When you're under the same roof as kids,
- 13:20Speaker 2: that's your tribe. You go to church together. You watch
- 13:23Speaker 2: TV together. You eat together. That's your tribe. The minute
- 13:25Speaker 2: you leave your household and get your new household, whether
- 13:30Speaker 2: you get a spouse or a partner or whatever it is,
- 13:32Speaker 2: you build your new tribe. And in building your new tribe,
- 13:37Speaker 2: you have a different, you know, different morals or modified
- 13:40Speaker 2: morals or ethos. And you build things differently. And you
- 13:44Speaker 2: can't put that back under the same roof again. Everyone
- 13:48Speaker 2: has their own family belief system now. And I think
- 13:52Speaker 2: that's what goes on with Jeannie Buss and her family.
- 13:54Speaker 2: It's like she's going, this is about being a part
- 13:57Speaker 2: of this team. And that's the most important part. And
- 14:00Speaker 2: the rest are going, you know what? I want to
- 14:02Speaker 2: enjoy our money while I'm alive. And neither of them
- 14:04Speaker 2: are wrong, per se. The law is going to decide that,
- 14:08Speaker 2: I suppose.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Well, the boys in blue have moved on to round two,
- 14:14Speaker 3: the L.A. Dodgers. won their third straight National League Division championship.
- 14:22Speaker 3: So they move on now to the championship series against
- 14:27Speaker 3: Milwaukee because Milwaukee beat San Diego, knocked them out of
- 14:31Speaker 3: the division series. So now it's on to the championship series,
- 14:34Speaker 3: which gets underway Sunday in Milwaukee. So the Brewers have
- 14:39Speaker 3: home field advantage. And Neil's eyes just glossed over. He goes, oh, God,
- 14:43Speaker 3: they're talking sports ball again.
- 14:45Speaker 2: No. You know, what's funny is I actually what I
- 14:49Speaker 2: was thinking was how crazy would that have been if
- 14:52Speaker 2: it was San Diego?
- 14:53Speaker 3: It would have been really cool. I mean, I would
- 14:54Speaker 3: have been fighting in the hallway between Ann and me.
- 14:56Speaker 2: But yeah, but I the Southern California itself would be
- 15:01Speaker 2: an interesting place to be if that had happened. Yeah,
- 15:05Speaker 2: that's all that I was thinking about. All right, the
- 15:09Speaker 2: Hershey's company. They've added a new disclaimer to packages of
- 15:13Speaker 2: Reese's peanut butter pumpkins. Why? Warning that the image on
- 15:17Speaker 2: the wrapper is not exactly what customers should expect to
- 15:20Speaker 2: find inside because customers are simpletons.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Do they get sued over this?
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's a jack-o'-lantern. There's actual cuts in the
- 15:33Speaker 2: chocolate on the cover or the wrapper that And people,
- 15:38Speaker 2: I guess, are, I'm going to sue you for punitive damages.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Well, to say that the little blob of chocolate and
- 15:47Speaker 3: peanut butter looks like a pumpkin is a stretch. Same
- 15:49Speaker 3: thing with the trees.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Oh, the tree looks like a butt plug. I mean,
- 15:53Speaker 2: it's like, right? Isn't that what you told me, New Clay?
- 15:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Okay. So, it's... Yeah, they don't look you want chocolate.
- 16:08Speaker 2: And you have to do chocolate in quotes now because
- 16:11Speaker 2: the more of the holiday ones, I think, are using
- 16:15Speaker 2: less like actual chocolate. But that's what you should get
- 16:21Speaker 2: mad about, whether it looks identical. It's not a jack-o'-lantern, people.
- 16:27Speaker 2: It's not. It's a pumpkin. Matter of fact, it doesn't
- 16:31Speaker 2: say jack-o'-lantern on there. It says pumpkin. But how are
- 16:37Speaker 2: you harmed that way? How are you harmed? My spirit?
- 16:43Speaker 2: You know what? If I were them, I would just put,
- 16:46Speaker 2: you know, cut your own face. You want me to
- 16:50Speaker 2: do what? No, no, Clay. Would you? If you told
- 16:54Speaker 2: me to. Man the power. Captain, my captain. Come to
- 16:59Speaker 2: the dark side. So, yeah, they should just say that.
- 17:03Speaker 2: You can carve whatever face you want in your pumpkin
- 17:06Speaker 2: because it's not a jack-o'-lantern. Some weather coming our way
- 17:10Speaker 2: this weekend. I'm excited. I heard Amy King and Will
- 17:15Speaker 2: earlier this morning on a wake-up call. You know, none
- 17:19Speaker 2: of us want to see any problems, obviously, but I'll
- 17:23Speaker 2: have just a tiny bit of El Nino this year
- 17:28Speaker 2: would be nice if that If we could squeeze a
- 17:31Speaker 2: little rain out of that. This isn't exactly that yet,
- 17:35Speaker 2: but I guess it would be the precursor or part
- 17:37Speaker 2: of it.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's not supposed to be a heavy downpour.
- 17:40Speaker 2: No, but you said it will hit everywhere a little bit?
- 17:43Speaker 3: It's supposed to move across Southern California. Yeah, that's what
- 17:46Speaker 3: the forecasters are saying.
- 17:47Speaker 2: You know what we should do? What? Let's start our
- 17:50Speaker 2: own KFI team of storm chasers. And if we know
- 17:53Speaker 2: the direction it's going... We'll just all run or drive
- 17:58Speaker 2: together in that direction and it will always be raining
- 18:00Speaker 2: on us. Okay. Well, we'll bring games and stuff. It
- 18:07Speaker 2: won't just.
- 18:08Speaker 3: We got to wait to do that until gas prices
- 18:09Speaker 3: come down.
- 18:12Speaker 2: We'll steal Kono's car. He's not going to notice. He's
- 18:18Speaker 2: going to be like, man, I'm not even working there
- 18:21Speaker 2: anymore and I'm still having to fill up every morning.
- 18:24Speaker 2: It's all right. We'll figure it out. Back to Handle
- 18:27Speaker 2: on the News, Neal Saavedra and Amy King. Here we go.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Doubling down on immigration enforcement ahead of the midterms. ICE
- 18:37Speaker 3: leadership apparently told agents to increase immigration arrests by a
- 18:42Speaker 3: thousand more people daily. That would return it to a
- 18:47Speaker 3: previous goal of 3000 daily arrests. ICE had recently been
- 18:51Speaker 3: taking in around 2000 people a day across the U.S.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Target officials say they wanted to sustain, but in a
- 18:59Speaker 3: statement to CNN, a Homeland Security spokesperson maintained that there
- 19:02Speaker 3: were no quotas or arrests. Under President Trump and Secretary
- 19:07Speaker 3: Mullen's leadership, ICE has been supercharged to find, arrest, and
- 19:11Speaker 3: deport illegal aliens from the U.S. using every lawful tool available,
- 19:16Speaker 3: said the spokesperson.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Oh, man. Poor Nithya Raman. That's a lot of margaritas
- 19:22Speaker 2: she's going to have to drink while she's hiding. from ice.
- 19:28Speaker 2: She actually misunderstood. We're almost out of ice? And then, yeah,
- 19:34Speaker 2: she was drinking margaritas. Well, that was going down. Anyways,
- 19:38Speaker 2: just thought I'd take a shot. Judge orders, Tennessee judge
- 19:42Speaker 2: actually ordered the State Department of Corrections to preserve all
- 19:46Speaker 2: evidence related to the botched execution of Death Road. inmate
- 19:50Speaker 2: Krista Pike. This is filed by Pike's legal team to
- 19:56Speaker 2: preserve the evidence. How do you... So botching a death,
- 20:05Speaker 2: an execution... I guarantee there's a fire squad coming up
- 20:11Speaker 2: for a military, the shooter there, the base shooter military.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Oh, I can't remember. I know who you're talking about.
- 20:20Speaker 3: The Fort Hood shooter.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Yes. And I guarantee there won't be any problems with
- 20:24Speaker 2: that one. I think it'll go swell. I think we
- 20:28Speaker 2: have a problem with that. It's a gun. And so
- 20:32Speaker 2: we don't like it because it's icky, but killing somebody
- 20:35Speaker 2: is pretty much icky on its face. So but I
- 20:39Speaker 2: bet you there won't be any problems and we should
- 20:41Speaker 2: probably bring that back. Bring back the guillotine. That just
- 20:44Speaker 2: seems a little harsh. But Pike, as we know, got
- 20:48Speaker 2: two doses of that pentobarbital, that massive sedative. It's used
- 20:55Speaker 2: in at least 17 states for capital punishment. But we
- 20:58Speaker 2: talked to.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Dr.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Keeney, you remember we talked to Dr. Keeney about that
- 21:02Speaker 2: and he said it was like 100 times each dose
- 21:05Speaker 2: was like 100 times what you would use or even
- 21:08Speaker 2: more than what you'd use for anesthesia or something like that.
- 21:14Speaker 2: And that he thought it probably pierced the went through
- 21:20Speaker 2: the vein and into the arm. And I think they
- 21:24Speaker 2: found that out later.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:26Speaker 2: In addition to it being.
- 21:27Speaker 3: They kind of missed the vein. It just went into
- 21:29Speaker 3: her tissue. So it knocked her out, but it didn't go.
- 21:33Speaker 3: It didn't circulate through her bloodstream and kill her.
- 21:36Speaker 2: But you think they'd give her a third one and
- 21:38Speaker 2: just make sure it went in the vein at that
- 21:40Speaker 2: point because she's out. She's not feeling nothing. She was snoring.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Never mind.
- 21:48Speaker 3: You know, we might not have made it without her.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Margaret Hamilton. Hamilton. She was the groundbreaking researcher who helped
- 21:57Speaker 3: create the field of software engineering. Imagine that. She created
- 22:00Speaker 3: the whole field of software engineering. And her code helped
- 22:05Speaker 3: NASA get to the moon. She was 90 years old.
- 22:10Speaker 3: She recently died. She died on September 30th. She worked
- 22:14Speaker 3: at MIT starting in 1959. And she stayed there until
- 22:19Speaker 3: the mid-1970s. And that's when Hamilton managed the software engineering division.
- 22:25Speaker 3: The division landed a contract with NASA in 1961, and
- 22:28Speaker 3: she ultimately led a team of 100 engineers that designed
- 22:32Speaker 3: the software to guide NASA's Apollo missions. To say she
- 22:36Speaker 3: was a pioneer, that she was ahead of her time,
- 22:39Speaker 3: would be a dramatic understatement, said Apollo's program professor.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Didn't they make a movie about her?
- 22:46Speaker 3: So I thought that she was one of the hidden figures.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Oh, that's what I thought.
- 22:50Speaker 3: But this is different. So it's interesting that another woman
- 22:54Speaker 3: was that instrumental, literally, in getting us to the moon.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Because the other one was— oh, I can't remember their names,
- 23:03Speaker 3: but man, that was a good movie. But that was
- 23:06Speaker 3: to get John Glenn into orbit.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Oh, gotcha.
- 23:09Speaker 3: So it was— Before the moon mission.
- 23:11Speaker 2: No, it just, you know, these little pieces of history
- 23:16Speaker 2: that are actually huge pieces of history sometimes get lost.
- 23:20Speaker 3: And I love, one of my favorite things in that
- 23:22Speaker 3: movie is that they called that group of women who
- 23:25Speaker 3: did all the calculations, they called them computers. They were
- 23:29Speaker 3: all the original computers before it was machines that did it.
- 23:34Speaker 3: That was their position.
- 23:34Speaker 2: That is, yeah, because they're computing.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:37Speaker 2: That's very, very cool.
- 23:39Speaker 3: I need a computer. And then a woman shows up
- 23:41Speaker 3: at the door.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I'm here for you. We'll get back to handling the
- 23:45Speaker 2: news in a moment. Just wanted to go to a
- 23:47Speaker 2: couple of these talkbacks. Here's my favorite talkback. Listen, you
- 23:53Speaker 2: can like what we say or not like what we say.
- 23:56Speaker 2: That doesn't really matter unless you're going to give a
- 23:58Speaker 2: good argument. I like to learn. But one of my
- 24:02Speaker 2: favorites is when, we got smart listeners. When the smart
- 24:07Speaker 2: listeners show up and say things, and this one is
- 24:11Speaker 2: from Charles Baltimore. Charles Baltimore says, hey, you know, when
- 24:15Speaker 2: you talk about the botched execution, you don't hear about
- 24:19Speaker 2: the victim at all. And I agree, that's a very
- 24:24Speaker 2: great point. So God bless Colleen Slemmer, who was the
- 24:29Speaker 2: 19-year-old victim. Um, back in 1995, you're absolutely right there. Um,
- 24:38Speaker 2: she is the victim in all this and Pike is
- 24:42Speaker 2: human garbage.
- 24:44Speaker 3: And then, uh, I talked about that on, on wake
- 24:46Speaker 3: up call too. I was like, let's remind us what
- 24:50Speaker 3: happened here because this woman is not a victim. She
- 24:53Speaker 3: tortured and murdered. Somebody kept part of her scalp as
- 24:57Speaker 3: a souvenir and edged a pentagram into her body.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Yeah, she's a human garbage. She doesn't, you know, it's
- 25:06Speaker 2: normal to throw out garbage. And then Kevin Smith says
- 25:12Speaker 2: that he uses the Weather Channel app and really likes
- 25:14Speaker 2: it because he's got kids and, you know, baseball, softball,
- 25:17Speaker 2: all kinds of traveling sports.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Sports ball stuff.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, sports ball stuff. But they're all, you know, at the,
- 25:25Speaker 2: I guess, at the height. If you're traveling like that,
- 25:28Speaker 2: you're probably a pretty good team. And that he loves that.
- 25:31Speaker 2: And it's pretty good on letting you know what's coming
- 25:33Speaker 2: and what's not. So thanks to those that are always
- 25:36Speaker 2: giving us important things on the talk back and not just.
- 25:40Speaker 2: You love Trump. You hate Trump. You love Trump. You
- 25:44Speaker 2: hate Trump, which is the vast majority of what people say.
- 25:46Speaker 2: They try and figure you out. You can tell them
- 25:50Speaker 2: right to their face something and they'll say, no, I
- 25:54Speaker 2: once told a psychic. Because for those who don't know,
- 25:59Speaker 2: I'm an amateur magician, loved sleight of hand. And one
- 26:04Speaker 2: of the other things that I liked a lot is mentalism,
- 26:06Speaker 2: which is fake, you know, psychic stuff, which is to
- 26:12Speaker 2: say that all psychics are fake in my view. But
- 26:17Speaker 2: I had a psychic tell me because I could work
- 26:19Speaker 2: a room that I was psychic and just didn't receive it,
- 26:25Speaker 2: just didn't believe in it. I'm like, no, I'm using trickery.
- 26:27Speaker 2: It's much easier.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Anyways.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Okay. So this is me. Californians paying some of the
- 26:34Speaker 2: highest water bills in the country. We talked about this
- 26:37Speaker 2: a little bit yesterday. Yes, we're ranked 32 and there
- 26:42Speaker 2: are others ahead of us. However, that's out of 500.
- 26:46Speaker 2: So We're still pretty high. You know, there are others higher,
- 26:54Speaker 2: but this is California. You're talking Los Angeles is ranked 32.
- 27:00Speaker 2: But California, you know, San Jose was number one and
- 27:06Speaker 2: you've got San Francisco in there, Oceanside in there. So
- 27:10Speaker 2: California as a whole is taking it in the shorts
- 27:13Speaker 2: per use when it comes to higher prices.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Got some trouble for an air taxi company. A jury
- 27:22Speaker 3: in Tampa, Florida, found that air taxi startup Joby Aviation,
- 27:27Speaker 3: and this is a startup, owes almost $ 117 million to
- 27:32Speaker 3: an aviation supplier called Aerosonic for allegedly breaching a confidentiality
- 27:39Speaker 3: agreement and mishandling trade secrets. The supplier claims Joby used
- 27:44Speaker 3: proprietary designs and data to develop its own data probes
- 27:49Speaker 3: that apparently measure the pressure around the aircraft because it's
- 27:53Speaker 3: an air taxi and it's going to do a vertical takeoff.
- 27:58Speaker 3: The major player in the race to bring air taxis
- 28:02Speaker 3: to market is Joby. It's denied the accusations. The jury, though,
- 28:06Speaker 3: found that Joby owes Aerosonic more than $ 48 million for
- 28:11Speaker 3: misappropriating those secrets and more than $ 68 million for breaking
- 28:14Speaker 3: a nondisclosure.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Yeah, there's only like two companies that are vying right now, right,
- 28:24Speaker 2: for these air taxis. Have you seen them, what they
- 28:27Speaker 2: look like?
- 28:27Speaker 3: Well, I haven't seen one in real life, but they
- 28:31Speaker 3: were talking about having them up and running for the
- 28:33Speaker 3: 2028 Olympics.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I've seen video and photos. They're pretty sleek and
- 28:40Speaker 2: pretty amazing. Just talking to my buddy Armando last night
- 28:44Speaker 2: about that over dinner, we were talking about the, you know,
- 28:46Speaker 2: air taxis and how one day we're talking about having
- 28:50Speaker 2: like Sunday dinner with your family, but they all live
- 28:52Speaker 2: far enough away where it's difficult and how great it
- 28:55Speaker 2: would be to just fly everybody in, you know, and enjoy.
- 28:59Speaker 2: All right. Flight attendants, their union flag safety concerns over
- 29:04Speaker 2: Trump's Washington arch. You know, that's the arch that he
- 29:07Speaker 2: wants to build. And the union there that represents thousands
- 29:13Speaker 2: of flight attendants says Wednesday it has safety concerns about
- 29:16Speaker 2: this triumphal arc that will be on final approach to
- 29:21Speaker 2: Ronald Reagan Airport there. I guess they just kind of
- 29:27Speaker 2: feel that it's kind of stretched to its limit in
- 29:30Speaker 2: that area. And another obstacle, taking up space in the
- 29:34Speaker 2: flight plan is probably not a good idea. I know
- 29:37Speaker 2: nothing about that, but we have all kinds of big
- 29:41Speaker 2: things piercing the air. Well, it's got to be controlled
- 29:44Speaker 2: airspace because they're wanting to put drones and technology up
- 29:48Speaker 2: there for defense purposes in Washington, D.C. Yeah, on that arch.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Yeah, he said it was going to be used for
- 29:56Speaker 3: national security.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Oh, because that's how he can get it built.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Well, all right. All right.
- 30:05Speaker 3: So they're not just suspending students. They're suspending whole fraternities
- 30:10Speaker 3: at the University of Arizona. All activities are suspended at
- 30:16Speaker 3: all the fraternities. I think there's 21 of them on
- 30:19Speaker 3: campus because of. what the university is calling persistent reports
- 30:24Speaker 3: of misconduct, including assault, hazing, and drug and alcohol-related behavior.
- 30:30Speaker 3: They didn't say whether the suspension was triggered by recent
- 30:34Speaker 3: public outcry over how Cornell University handled allegations that seven
- 30:40Speaker 3: fraternity brothers sexually assaulted a woman in 2024.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Yeah. So I'm not one of those people where abuse
- 30:51Speaker 2: bars use because people abuse something or there are some
- 30:57Speaker 2: problems that you should bar at all. But I got
- 31:00Speaker 2: to tell you, man, fraternities, you don't hear this about
- 31:04Speaker 2: sororities in the same way, in the same sense, don't
- 31:08Speaker 2: always sound like a good idea. Even though I know
- 31:10Speaker 2: I've known many people, I personally would have never been
- 31:13Speaker 2: a part of one.
- 31:14Speaker 3: It doesn't. Oh, I love the Greek system.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it does nothing for me. My wife was in
- 31:19Speaker 2: a sorority and I know others and stuff, but it
- 31:23Speaker 2: meant a lot to them and their sisterhood and all
- 31:25Speaker 2: those things. But it just all too often, it seems like,
- 31:32Speaker 2: and I'm going to get flack for this. I know
- 31:34Speaker 2: not all of them are like this, but all too
- 31:36Speaker 2: often we hear these stories that when they are bad,
- 31:38Speaker 2: they're so incredibly bad that it's like, really?
- 31:42Speaker 3: I'm surprised that the hazing still goes on. Because it
- 31:45Speaker 3: was a thing, you know, when I was in school,
- 31:47Speaker 3: but they've cracked down and they've changed a lot. I mean,
- 31:50Speaker 3: we used to have we used to have full on
- 31:53Speaker 3: huge raging parties in the basements at the at the fraternities.
- 31:59Speaker 3: I know, but instead of and they were having them
- 32:01Speaker 3: off campus, too, at private places, we just had the
- 32:03Speaker 3: big ones and we were all together. But now they've
- 32:06Speaker 3: cracked down on that.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I was on. What is it? Greek row or
- 32:12Speaker 2: whatever it is over by. Oh, by the Coliseum the
- 32:16Speaker 2: other day when I went to the Lucas Museum. At USC? Yeah, USC.
- 32:20Speaker 2: So I drove by all those and it's romantic in
- 32:23Speaker 2: one way. It's a really neat system, like you say,
- 32:25Speaker 2: in one way. And then in the other, you just think, God,
- 32:29Speaker 2: there's a lot of bad.
- 32:31Speaker 3: There's a lot of bad everywhere.
- 32:32Speaker 2: I know. I get it. It just, it seems to be,
- 32:36Speaker 2: then there needs to be a better way to control it.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Let's say that.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Okay.
- 32:41Speaker 2: You know, they don't like when you call them frats.
- 32:44Speaker 3: Who are they?
- 32:45Speaker 2: Like frat guys.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Oh, they don't? No. They don't?
- 32:48Speaker 2: No, because you wouldn't abbreviate the word country.
- 32:52Speaker 1: You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show. Catch my
- 32:54Speaker 1: show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and
- 32:57Speaker 1: anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
