- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:17presented by C Geek. This is episode 434.
- 0:19I'll be your host, Kyle Cord. And I'm here with my Co host,
- 0:22Nate Reyes. Nate.
- 0:29That's is me. I am HE3O take is we nailed it.
- 0:39There it is I. Was wondering where you were
- 0:41taking that, but you landed it. Used to crush poems in
- 0:46elementary school if you were curious so.
- 0:48I was like a borderline haiku, almost.
- 0:52Speaking of landing things, I checked on the status of the
- 0:57Oakland A's Polo today. I thought there was an off
- 1:02chance that I might might have received it by today.
- 1:06And the Pfizer the for those unfamiliar, the wager I'm not
- 1:15going to, I'm not going to rehash the whole wager again.
- 1:17But I'm ultimately I lost a bet with Nate.
- 1:21You can find out the details of it all on my Twitter, but lost
- 1:27the bet and the the loser, in this case me, had to or has to
- 1:35wear an Oakland A's gold polo and a green Oakland A's visor
- 1:41every episode until the All Star break.
- 1:44So the last I checked, when I saw it today, it had landed in
- 1:54Get This. It went from Philly, sure, to
- 1:59Texas. Well, it went from California to
- 2:04Philly to Texas. So you could have just, like
- 2:09gone and picked it up in Philly if you really wanted to, yeah.
- 2:11If I really wanted to. But I didn't.
- 2:13So I didn't. Some would say that's not really
- 2:17super committed. I'll wear it when it shows up.
- 2:22But the the thing that I told you but I I don't know if I or
- 2:27no I I tweeted out the original gold polo that was decided upon
- 2:32only had smalls available. You you question my my
- 2:39commitment to this bit. I almost thought about ordering
- 2:43a small and just figuring out a way to make it work.
- 2:47But I That would have been a that would have been a oh, that
- 2:49would have been a tough scene. But I didn't.
- 2:51So in classic Oakland Ace fashion, I opted for a cheaper
- 2:55cheaper option save some money and I found like new Oakland A's
- 3:00Gold Polo a similar option on eBay and when it place the
- 3:04order. Old, like, that's for sure Old.
- 3:07Oh, it's like Majestic, like earlier, early Ish.
- 3:11Majestic. Yeah, it's it's definitely not.
- 3:14A excellent it's. Definitely not new.
- 3:16Excellent. I will be rocking that.
- 3:19All the more reason, yeah, that's what I was going to say.
- 3:22All the more reason to get your subscribing to the YouTube
- 3:26channel done now so you could witness this stretch.
- 3:29I think we counted as like 11 or 12 episodes, so.
- 3:32I think it's about a dozen episodes.
- 3:34That's perfect. That's absolutely perfect.
- 3:37Unbelievable. It's it's unbelievable to me how
- 3:40confident you were to make that bet.
- 3:44I I told you I I sent you the tweet.
- 3:47I I've been reading articles since then talking about the
- 3:50Oakland A's fall off in the last 14, two, like two 2 1/2 weeks.
- 3:56The the evidence was there. It was in it was working in my
- 3:58favor. I thought that was a pretty easy
- 4:00bet for myself, but not not to be had so.
- 4:04Call me a genius. It's OK.
- 4:05No, you didn't have that kind of foresight.
- 4:07Anyway. Just wanted to get that update
- 4:09out there about our Oakland A's wager.
- 4:13Just wanted to update the people on the latest that I know, Edwin
- 4:18Diaz. Get the trumpets going.
- 4:34That's all I got. That's if that's close.
- 4:36That's the closest I got. We probably no, I'll save it.
- 4:43Edwin Diaz demoted from his closer role with the New York
- 4:47Metropolitans, I think a move that many of us saw coming, Mets
- 4:53fans included. And he even alluded to it
- 4:56himself, talking about how his confidence was down and that he
- 4:59was willing to step away from the closer role.
- 5:03He mentioned this in a in a post game presser.
- 5:06I believe it was in front of his, his locker.
- 5:08I was watching the clip today and or I think it was from last
- 5:13night I saw today and then I think shortly thereafter it was
- 5:17announced that he was demoted. I don't know if the the word
- 5:23demoted officially made its way to the headlines, but All in
- 5:28all, not the not no longer the closer of the New York Mets, at
- 5:32least for the near future. In the meantime, I think we're
- 5:37going to have a closer by committee that will not include
- 5:42Edwin Diaz. What are What are our thoughts
- 5:43here? Trying to look at like the game
- 5:47log, so I didn't see how many, How many saves has he saves?
- 5:53Has he blown? He's blown lead.
- 5:55Well, he's blown leads in three straight games.
- 5:58He's converted only five of his eight saves, giving up 11 earned
- 6:02runs in 18 innings, which amounts to a 550 ERA.
- 6:05Yeah, it's a tough look. Looks like the strikeout stuff
- 6:09is still there. I it's really strange.
- 6:12It's it's really odd. I was trying to look at numbers
- 6:17on Baseball Savant compared to 2022 because obviously he was
- 6:24out last year. It it doesn't compute to me.
- 6:34Fastball, he's pretty much a two pitch guy.
- 6:35Fastball and and slider percentages are the exact same.
- 6:39It's basically like a 58% slider to 41% four seam fastball
- 6:46percentage. Just carbon copy from what we
- 6:50saw in 2022 when he dominated looking at spin, spin looks the
- 6:58exact same. The exact same, but obviously
- 7:04numbers are just not good. Batting average against the
- 7:08slider this year is a 234-2022. We had a 114 batting average
- 7:16against Slug has climbed from A134 in 2022 to a 468 off that
- 7:24slider. Looks like the lift has gone up.
- 7:29It was a the 9° launch angle on average in 2022 compared to a 14
- 7:34Fastball's also getting lifted. Velocity's slightly down on the
- 7:38fastball so far. It's a 996.9 this year compared
- 7:44to a 99.1 average in 2022. So like Velo is down.
- 7:49I suppose it's just odd, like you know the swing and miss
- 7:55stuff is just not there the way it used to be.
- 7:58But it I think that the issue is mainly the slider.
- 8:01He gave up one home run in all of 2022 off the slider.
- 8:06He's giving up three so far this year.
- 8:10So the slider is for sure the issue and you know coming off of
- 8:18TJ like I guess it's or not TJ what was it the the knee?
- 8:22The knee from the World Baseball Classic.
- 8:24Yep. Yeah, the knee.
- 8:25So it's like, I don't know how you just lose that pitch,
- 8:34especially when spin looks the same, velocity looks the same.
- 8:39It's actually getting better extension off of it.
- 8:43I don't. I don't know, but guys just
- 8:46aren't missing it right now, so. I think I mean the looking at
- 8:53the numbers I I would say would tell part of the story but you
- 8:58have to keep in mind with a closer did they and and you know
- 9:04like I'm not telling you anything that you don't already
- 9:06know but like a closer it goes beyond the numbers it goes you
- 9:11have to look at the mentality and how that's being impacted
- 9:14and how that's fluctuating because it it does.
- 9:17I mean only the greatest of the great closers really have a
- 9:22confidence that is unwavering when they when they take the
- 9:25mound pretty much every other closer is going to have his ups
- 9:30and downs and Edwin Diaz is not immune to that.
- 9:34And so when you start even if even if the stuff is there if
- 9:37it's getting if it's getting hit around a little bit more than
- 9:39usual you start blowing some leads especially consecutive
- 9:43leads the way he has as of late that's gonna that's gonna really
- 9:48do a number on your confidence and that's vital that is crucial
- 9:54as a closer because if you don't have that it frankly it really
- 9:57doesn't matter how good your stuff is or or you know your
- 10:02RPMS don't matter the the the pitch usage maybe doesn't matter
- 10:08as much because if you if you're lacking that confidence that's
- 10:13that's you're missing half your game if not more as a guy as a
- 10:19as a high high leverage reliever.
- 10:22Yeah, you're right. I mean, you're definitely right.
- 10:26It's, I think that's, again, just, I'm not trying to be a
- 10:31Homer here, but like, we can go outside and mow.
- 10:34We can go into the Trevor Hoffman conversation if you
- 10:36want, but, like, it just shows how difficult it is to be a
- 10:40lockdown Hall of Fame closer for that stretch in your career.
- 10:45Yeah, it's it's just super impressive.
- 10:50I am not surprised because like, let's face it, like nothing
- 10:53about the Mets ever surprises us.
- 10:55Ever. Nothing like this ever gets to
- 10:58us. We know it's it's coming.
- 11:00We know what they do. It's just like a it just spreads
- 11:05into that mentality of every guy in the roster.
- 11:09I can't help but love it. And to reiterate, I I'm not
- 11:12downplaying the numbers that you're sharing whatsoever.
- 11:15Like that's that's very important information to to
- 11:18know. It's more so addressing the
- 11:20audience, the demographic that looks at purely numbers like the
- 11:26the new age, the the advanced metrics the stack cast, all that
- 11:30whatever you want to look at and they go well on paper.
- 11:35The math is the math is math in with Edwin Diaz.
- 11:37Why isn't it working? You have to remember, and that's
- 11:41what I was saying, is you, you and I both know this.
- 11:43Like there's there's an element there that's not exactly
- 11:47tangible that you have to keep in mind when it comes to Valic,
- 11:49Edwin Diaz and again the the aforementioned injury in the
- 11:54World Baseball Classic, that takes a toll on him as well.
- 11:57Like it if you take 2022 and you roll them right into 2023, he
- 12:02probably sustains the success that he saw in 2022 and he just
- 12:05keeps the train right moving right along and probably
- 12:09wouldn't be any different this year.
- 12:10But you take that year off after showing out in 2022, the buzz
- 12:17couldn't have been higher with him with with the trump.
- 12:20And we we we talked about it till we were blue in the face
- 12:25and it was talked about constantly.
- 12:28But you take a a whole year off that's a lot to come back from.
- 12:32And if you don't have your, if you don't have your stuff that
- 12:36you had back in 2022 right out of the gate you start to ask
- 12:40yourself some questions. You start to go, was that was
- 12:44that really me or is this really me.
- 12:47And then that just starts snowballing and you you the
- 12:51result is what you're what we're seeing right now with the with a
- 12:54guy who was a shoo in to to be the lockdown guy for the Mets
- 12:59regard whether or not he got the opportunities for for saves
- 13:04based on how the Mets did this year.
- 13:06That's that's another conversation.
- 13:08But he was supposed to be the guy and he's, as it stands right
- 13:12now, is not the guy, and it's going to be a question of of how
- 13:17long that'll be the case. I I can't help but we're getting
- 13:23outside of Edwin Diaz specifically.
- 13:25But like I if you notice that so many of these controversial
- 13:31review calls, there's Every time I see something about the Mets,
- 13:36I see like this tantrum by by players like the amount of.
- 13:43Don't get me wrong like every team has players that are guilty
- 13:47of this, including our favorite teams.
- 13:49But like the amount of. Like complaining about strike
- 13:54zone. The amount of like a helmet
- 13:56slams after striking out. The amount of you know maybe you
- 14:01call it bad luck with with review calls that seem like they
- 14:05probably should have gone the other way but didn't.
- 14:08It's just like this energy it's it's and it's contagious the
- 14:13same way winning is contagious it it's it's almost like they're
- 14:19finding a way to lose. And I don't know how you flip
- 14:23that script. I really just don't know.
- 14:27I like Carlos Mendoza. I'm a little biased because he
- 14:30was a bench coach with the Yankees.
- 14:31I I feel like he's not necessarily a bad fit.
- 14:35I don't know if he's the long term answer, but I don't.
- 14:41I just don't know how you change like the attitude.
- 14:45I need a winner. I need a leader.
- 14:48I need someone who is willing to just put their foot down and be
- 14:52that guy in the clubhouse, and no one really seems to want to
- 14:57do that. And I think it's just spread.
- 15:02It's just gone all over the place on every aspect of the
- 15:06game. Do you see that weird, like,
- 15:10double play that they got into today?
- 15:13It was a rundown. What happened?
- 15:16It was like a 1653 rundown that was in between second and third.
- 15:22And then Marte, you know, tries to book it from first to second
- 15:26and then gets back picked at first.
- 15:29It's. I don't know if it's like a lack
- 15:33of discipline. I don't know If it's.
- 15:36I don't know. I don't know.
- 15:39I know the rest of the league enjoys it.
- 15:40Like we enjoy it. It's, it's.
- 15:42Fun. Oh, I love it.
- 15:43It's fun to have the Mets is the laughingstock.
- 15:45It's fun to have them the butt of the joke.
- 15:48But at the same time, you're like, what is going on?
- 15:50What? Why?
- 15:52Why can't anything go your guys's way?
- 15:55And not to mention, it's an interesting division when you
- 16:00look at the NL East this year thus far, I mean the Braves.
- 16:04I mean the the Phillies. Rather triple check here.
- 16:10Best team in baseball. Want to make sure nothing
- 16:13changed today. Best team in baseball entering
- 16:15today 34 and 14. Not to sit like we we talk about
- 16:22all the time. The Phillies, the Braves, one of
- 16:24those. Those are going to be the two
- 16:25teams that beat each other up throughout the year and those
- 16:28are and and then you and then you'll have the rest of the
- 16:30division. And I'm not going to I'm not
- 16:31going to drop like the Billy Bean like you got you got these
- 16:35250 feet of crap and then the rest of the vision, it's not
- 16:37it's not that bad. I mean we like to we like to
- 16:42laugh at the Mets a little bit. But, I mean, they're like,
- 16:45respectable enough to be not 50 below 50 feet of crap.
- 16:50But it's like, man, it's like the Atlanta Braves, the Wicked
- 16:56Witch of the West or whatever. And they're, I mean, the Braves
- 17:02fans at 27 and 17, Braves fans ready to jump off a bridge.
- 17:07I know. Which makes absolutely no sense.
- 17:10You're literally, you've played 500 ball over your last 10 and
- 17:13they're ready to cancel the season.
- 17:15So it's like it's like all of these factors.
- 17:17It's a little bit of a mix up in the race, which is essentially
- 17:20what I was getting at, a little bit of a mix up in the division
- 17:23and you're just kind of you're just floundering, you're just
- 17:26floundering. And it's like we can only expect
- 17:30so much because it was made clear that this was not going to
- 17:34be a year in which they were going to compete, but.
- 17:37Like, we can't, we can't fault them.
- 17:39I I to be honest with you I'm I'm somewhat impressed by a 21
- 17:43and 26 record get all things considered like you you got to
- 17:48think that that's pretty decent for what they're doing and what
- 17:52they're not doing and who they are.
- 17:55I just, I I think it needs an overhaul, man, like I really do.
- 17:59And I don't know what that looks like, but I don't know.
- 18:08Craig says on the on the stream chat.
- 18:10It says Brad, It's something to watch right now.
- 18:12Losing games, we're just going to that.
- 18:14I understand that. I understand, sure.
- 18:17It's incredibly frustrating to be losing games that you
- 18:22shouldn't be. But it gets worse.
- 18:26You got to take it and you got to take into account the the,
- 18:33the resume you've put in. Thus far, you're 2017.
- 18:38The Phillies aren't, I would imagine, aren't going to sustain
- 18:40this level of play. It's it's all right.
- 18:46It's all right. Yeah.
- 18:48I mean, I I like a good opportunity to to take a shot at
- 18:52Braves fans every now and then. Not every, not every day, just
- 18:55every now and then. So, like, if I'm sitting here
- 18:58saying it'll be all right, just rest assured it'll be all right.
- 19:04Any more than Edwin Diaz topic. I'm sure he'll be back.
- 19:12I'm sure he'll be back into the into the normal role.
- 19:16You can tell the stuff is there, like you said, like you know
- 19:18when you look at numbers, it's it's still there.
- 19:22It could just be, you know, the timing of of when those pictures
- 19:24are going to be called and and the situation he's in and
- 19:28overall what's going on in the noggin.
- 19:30But he'll be back, he'll be fine.
- 19:32He'll be back. And listen to this we need a
- 19:34little break from the stupid trumpets anyway.
- 19:43Yeah, I I wish I could have that that hatred right now for just
- 19:53getting the getting the trumpets out of out of here.
- 19:56But I just hate to see a guy like, I mean he you saw the
- 19:59headlines him getting like emotional and it's like I can't
- 20:02even. Can't.
- 20:04I can't take shots right now at this guy.
- 20:07It's it's tough. If he was doing well and they
- 20:09were continuing to force the trumpets down our throat, I'd be
- 20:12like I'm done this. Is what I'm saying.
- 20:14This is what I'm saying, man. Like show me some freaking
- 20:16mental toughness. Like show me some mental
- 20:19toughness. If you're if you're a Met fan,
- 20:22you got to be like where is like our, our what?
- 20:26What? It's not even that far into the
- 20:28season and we're complaining this way and we're like self
- 20:33pitying our way through this. It's like.
- 20:36No, I think to to to their credit, I think and we we've
- 20:39mentioned this before, I think Mets fans are just numb to to
- 20:43the the state of their team. It's the players that I think
- 20:46and that may have been who you're referencing.
- 20:48It's the players that need to show the mental toughness like
- 20:53take it, take a hint from your fan base.
- 20:55No. 100%, that's what I'm saying.
- 20:57Just like like. This is our lives now.
- 21:00Met fan, Yankee fan, Whoever you are in New York like you, you'd
- 21:03like to think that those people are typically a little more
- 21:06mentally tough than a lot of Americans.
- 21:08So it's like maybe they're just louder than most Americans.
- 21:12But either way, either way, it's like just a a mentality switch
- 21:19needs to happen. I don't know.
- 21:23Trying to watch my team lose over here.
- 21:26Let's talk talk about other cities.
- 21:29Let's go to Chicago. Let's talk this finale on
- 21:35Saturday versus the Pirates. So laying the scene here, you
- 21:41got Christopher Morell at at the plate.
- 21:44David Bednar, who as we know hasn't had prime David Bednar
- 21:50season thus far. They believe it's a 00 ball
- 21:54game. Cody Bellinger at the plate.
- 21:57Ball hard hard line. Drive hard ground ball up the
- 22:00middle. Cody.
- 22:06Did I say Cody Bellinger at the plate?
- 22:08No. Christopher Morell's at the
- 22:09plate. Cody Bellinger rounding third
- 22:13and the controversy begins. Play is at the plate.
- 22:19He slides in, knocks the ball loose with his hand
- 22:24unintentionally. If there's anybody out there,
- 22:27and I I would, I would like to think the baseball fans are
- 22:30smart enough to know that there was no intention in that because
- 22:32a play moving that fast, sure, you can sit there and break it
- 22:35down in slow motion and go, Oh well, he clearly knocked it out
- 22:38of his hand. A play in in real time.
- 22:41He he's not, he's not looking to do anything intentionally there.
- 22:45He's trying to beat the ball to the plate.
- 22:48That's what he's focused on. And then you just see all these,
- 22:54all these interpretations of the rules flooding social media
- 22:58saying, well, no, this is what Rule 713 says.
- 23:02And well, this is what the video shows.
- 23:06Well, this is what the replay room said, and this is what was
- 23:08decided. There's just a whole bunch of
- 23:12chaos. I frankly still don't know where
- 23:17I fall on this play. I mean, we know now what the
- 23:20rule is, 'cause that was brought to our attention, little clarity
- 23:24provided on that front. But it's just a that's a that's
- 23:29a fast-paced play to end the game and it's hard to, I mean,
- 23:35to be fair, it is the umpire's job to know these things.
- 23:38So I'm not going to absolve them completely, but like to see the
- 23:42play happen in real time to make the call that he did to
- 23:45acknowledge that the ball was on the ground.
- 23:47I don't. I don't necessarily fault him
- 23:49for that, however, the issue is with the replay room.
- 23:57You. Take it to the replay room,
- 23:59those people. Now that you've now that you're
- 24:02you're in the middle of in the midst of a a replay review a
- 24:05time out, you have the ability to go, OK, what does our
- 24:08rulebook say? And according to Rule 713, the
- 24:13one I mentioned, a runner attempting to score may not
- 24:18deviate from his direct pathway to the plate in order to
- 24:20initiate contact with a catcher or other players covering home
- 24:24plate. If, in the judgement of the
- 24:27umpire, a runner attempting to score initiates contact with the
- 24:30catcher or other player covering home plate in such a manner, the
- 24:34umpire shall declare the runner out even if the player covering
- 24:38home plate loses possession of the ball.
- 24:43So that's what the rule says. The thing that I didn't
- 24:46understand though is that people were ignoring the ball drop
- 24:50altogether. I kept seeing people cropping,
- 24:54cropping the replay, zooming in, going well, you can see that he
- 24:58makes contact with Bellinger's foot before it crosses his own
- 25:01plate cause Bellinger's foot moves.
- 25:03It's like that's not what we're that's not even relevant to what
- 25:05we're looking at here, the the whole play in question or the
- 25:09ball being on the ground. And the reason the decision, the
- 25:12call was made was because the ball was on the ground.
- 25:15So I don't know, just a whole bunch of craziness.
- 25:18And I I I would venture to say Major League Baseball and the
- 25:21Umpires Association still doesn't really know what the
- 25:24right call is. It's a weird one.
- 25:27I'll I'll give them that. This is a weird one I.
- 25:32Did you? Well, let me ask you, did you
- 25:33watch? Did you watch it in real time
- 25:35'cause the only it was hard to find a real time.
- 25:38No, each of it. I've only seen these like.
- 25:41The slow MO. The slow MO ones, yeah.
- 25:45Because if you watch the the full speed play, like I'm
- 25:50sitting there going my initial my my reaction would be once you
- 25:54see the balls on the ground, OK, he's safe and that I think
- 25:57that's what happened. But again, it goes back to, it
- 26:00goes back to the dialogue taking place back in New York or or
- 26:04whatever replay room they're in contact with at that point.
- 26:07If we're placing fault, it's not on the home plate umpire because
- 26:10I do agree, like I just watched it live or not alive, but a full
- 26:14speed 1II concur it looks like. Especially because there is like
- 26:20a slight rollover who's catching this one.
- 26:23I don't remember the name of the catcher.
- 26:30You're talking about who who the catcher was?
- 26:33Yeah. For the play, I honestly don't
- 26:36even remember I. Don't know, whatever he like
- 26:40kind of rolls over a little bit. So in in the like the body from
- 26:49Bellinger and like the angle that the umpire's in like the
- 26:51body is kind of blocking the fact that all you see is just
- 26:57like slide catcher lays out. You lose sight of the tag and
- 27:00then the ball's on the ground, so I don't fault the the home
- 27:03plate on fire at all. Oh, is it Jan Gomes?
- 27:06Was he the guy? With the ball, it doesn't look
- 27:08like it. He started for the Cubs on
- 27:12Saturday. It's definitely not him.
- 27:18I can't tell who it is. Yeah, this is, this is all
- 27:22about, you know, going it. It's in New York, right?
- 27:24Is it still in New York, the the review room or whatever?
- 27:28Yeah. Replay central.
- 27:32I don't know man. I've seen a couple of these
- 27:34calls. They go, they go through review
- 27:39and they're not correct afterwards.
- 27:43That's what I'm saying. People want to laugh.
- 27:46It's there's something going on and nobody wants to acknowledge
- 27:50it because nobody likes to be labeled as a conspiracy
- 27:53theorist. But what are we?
- 27:54What are we doing like? Look at what's it's an epidemic
- 28:00unlike like in in at levels we haven't seen before and people
- 28:03are talking like I I saw a comment the other day in
- 28:06response of one of my one of the reels I put I think it may have
- 28:10been while you were out and I was talking about how umpires
- 28:14just have been atrocious whatever.
- 28:15And I I mentioned the whole like the the the buyout or the payout
- 28:19or whatever and somebody commented on there something
- 28:22like, LOL, this guy's ignoring how bad umpires have been for
- 28:26the last like, however many decades.
- 28:28And it's like, no, I'm taking that into account, but you have
- 28:31to, you have to compare that to what's going on right now.
- 28:34The replay reviews are getting them wrong.
- 28:36So, like, what are we really doing here?
- 28:38Yeah, I don't know man. I think it's the you can tell
- 28:43First off that whatever Bellinger is doing with the the
- 28:46hand up, like that's not intentional to knock the ball
- 28:48out. So we can for sure get that out
- 28:52of the way. I think it's the argument of
- 28:56like the incidental contact. Also, I can't tell because for
- 29:08the sake of the argument for like a transfer play, like you
- 29:12can tell like a a middle infielder if he's going to
- 29:15transfer and it's a drop, like it's the action of the next
- 29:19motion, right? Like the catch was completed,
- 29:22the out was completed. So can you argue that the action
- 29:29of the tag was completed and this is like an effort to show
- 29:33the umpire of the ball, right? Like that's what it was mainly
- 29:38looking like, Like he's trying to say like hey, I I'm still
- 29:41holding on to this and then it got knocked out.
- 29:45So can you use that same logic as you would as like a transfer
- 29:49play saying like that the first actions completed, we can't
- 29:54judge the next action? I don't know.
- 30:00This is it's kind of like the like in the NFL too.
- 30:03Like did he go to the ground and and hold on to it long enough to
- 30:07complete the catch? It's hard to say.
- 30:11It's really hard to say. I don't know.
- 30:13I don't know the right call. Do you know the right call?
- 30:15Do you agree? Safer out like do you can you
- 30:18pick one way or the other. Like it's it's weird if I, like
- 30:28I said, if I'm watching this play in real time.
- 30:31No. Say you're in the review.
- 30:33Say you're in the review room. Well, that's what I'm saying.
- 30:36It's different if I'm, if I'm the umpire watching this real
- 30:39time play at the plate, you might initially think he's out,
- 30:42you see the ball on the ground and he pointed to the ball, he
- 30:45he acknowledged that the ball was on the ground, called him
- 30:48safe. That's what I would have done,
- 30:50yeah. But if I'm in the replay route,
- 30:52to answer your question, if I'm in the replay room, why would I
- 30:58not be referencing this rule 713 and going there's.
- 31:05Well, there's our answer. This doesn't need to take more
- 31:08than 30 seconds. Why is that not happening?
- 31:13Read the first part of 713 again.
- 31:17Relevant to which like. Because it like the way I took
- 31:24it in is like if they make an effort outside of the path to
- 31:30initiate contact, right? A runner attempting to score may
- 31:37not deviate from his direct pathway to the plate in order to
- 31:40initiate contact with the catcher.
- 31:42So the deviate part is where I'm getting lost because like he
- 31:45didn't deviate. This was a direct path.
- 31:51I don't think it's so much about the contact.
- 31:54I I think it's the. Well, no, but that's what,
- 31:58that's what. It's the second part of 713
- 32:01that, going back to my point where it's like this should take
- 32:04no longer than 30 seconds. If they know what rule is is
- 32:08relevant to this play, you reference it, You make the
- 32:11decision and you and you. You go on with the game
- 32:15accordingly, or end the game according or what advance to the
- 32:18next inning. However the the play lends
- 32:22itself but the second part of 713.
- 32:25If, in the judgement of the umpire or runner attempting to
- 32:27score, initiates contact with the catcher or other player
- 32:31covering home plate in such a manner, the umpire shall declare
- 32:33the runner out even if the even. If the player covering home
- 32:36plate loses possession of the ball, the umpire shall declare
- 32:43the runner out, even if the player covering home plate loses
- 32:47possession of the ball, initiates contact with the
- 32:53catcher. That's.
- 32:55But that's is that, is that saying only if he deviates or
- 32:58no, 'cause that seems like a sub thing under the rule, you know,
- 33:06like is that only relevant if he deviates?
- 33:08That's fair. Yeah that's fair because it just
- 33:11says trying to figure out because it just says if in the
- 33:14judgement of the umpire runner attempting to score initiate.
- 33:17I read that as a separate like independent of the first part.
- 33:21But to your point, if it is like if it's a sub rule of the the
- 33:27primary or the initial reading of 713 then.
- 33:34I just had a new idea. I think we should just once an
- 33:37episode, drop a new a new rule that we read straight out of the
- 33:41rule book, try to dissect it. I love that.
- 33:46The verbiage of this is crazy. I love that we need to do that.
- 33:51Just a live idea just we're just we're informed this is new
- 33:55though I I don't remember seeing anything like this.
- 33:57I mean I think the again like you think back of like maybe
- 34:01like like a swipe play at first where the first baseman comes
- 34:06off the bag and still swipes like is it the I just I think of
- 34:10like the next part of the action.
- 34:12It seemed to me like the tag was completed and it's the it's like
- 34:18the show of I made the tag then ball gets knocked out.
- 34:29It's just kind of how I I think he's out.
- 34:33I lean towards out. I mean, if I, if we're reading
- 34:40the rule as it's laid out, I I guess by default he should be
- 34:46out, yeah. But I guess there's more of a
- 34:53judgment call to make in this situation then maybe, maybe
- 34:57we'll lend on to who knows. What we do know is that David
- 35:07Fletcher, former teammate of Shohei Ohtani, getting getting
- 35:12swept up in a little of the the gambling allegations.
- 35:17Major League Baseball has, as of Monday today have opened an
- 35:24investigation regarding David Fletcher's related activity with
- 35:34an illegal bookie. Didn't we read like a slight
- 35:41detail when this first came out, that Mizahara was connected to
- 35:47the bookie through David Fletcher?
- 35:49I thought we heard David Fletcher's name before all this.
- 35:54I thought it was the other way around.
- 35:55I thought it was. I thought it was Ipe was kind of
- 36:00the the point man and he was over Ohtani and guys like David
- 36:07Fletcher and maybe others. Am I?
- 36:10Am I the only one that didn't know David Fletcher was still in
- 36:12the league? I didn't even realize he was
- 36:17still playing I. Couldn't tell you.
- 36:20Yeah, he's a brave so. He's in the Braves organization
- 36:27with the AAA squad, yeah. ESPN reported Friday that
- 36:34Fletcher, who is currently playing for the Atlanta Braves
- 36:37AAA affiliate, bet on sports hyphenated but not baseball.
- 36:43Every time. Matthew Boyer, the Southern
- 36:46California bookmaker who took wages from Shohei Ohtani's
- 36:50longtime interpreter, Ibe Mizahara.
- 36:55Still illegal? Well, not illegal, but still,
- 36:59well, kind of. Still illegal.
- 37:01Still against ML BS rules like you can't use an illegal
- 37:05bookmaker. Can I can I throw something out
- 37:12there. This probably won't land well
- 37:14with a lot of people, but it's it's just a thought.
- 37:18It's maybe it's more of a question.
- 37:21And as somebody who who experiments a little bit with
- 37:26different betting apps like yourself, I want to ask you
- 37:36should should it just be illegal for any and all professional
- 37:42athletes to do any, any sports betting, regardless the sport,
- 37:49regardless what sport they play, regardless what sport they're
- 37:52betting on. And I know there's going to be
- 37:54loophole like as with anything that you make illegal like there
- 37:57people are going to find ways around it.
- 37:58But I'm saying I'm just tired of reading about the but not on
- 38:04baseball. It's like, OK, you're still like
- 38:09you're still betting on other sports.
- 38:11You're getting swept up in in illegal activities.
- 38:14Not not all but some as as we know now and more than we we
- 38:19probably would like to think like at what point well I I'm
- 38:25answering my own question it that would never happen because
- 38:27of the way that these these sports books have infiltrated.
- 38:33Specifically looking at baseball like you have you have sport
- 38:36books like on site for some of these parks advertising
- 38:43sponsorships like that would never happen.
- 38:47But I'm just I'm I'm tired of the the stipulations of well,
- 38:51didn't bet on baseball though it's like well I'm, I would
- 38:54venture to say that he probably did but we're just trying to
- 38:56keep the image as clean as we can now that the report is out.
- 39:03It's still the bookmaker thing for me.
- 39:05Like if you're using a bookie you're only doing that because
- 39:11you're in a state where betting isn't legal.
- 39:13So use it. I I don't understand what the
- 39:19what the issue is because there's plenty of players that
- 39:21don't have issues there's there's plenty of guys that that
- 39:25bet that don't have issues as long as you just follow the the
- 39:27rules. I don't I don't know man it's
- 39:32it's a strange a strange thing to just ignore specifically
- 39:41around baseball. Like they're like, we know the
- 39:44betting scandals in our game. I'm not going to lie, I going
- 39:51to, I'm going to have to agree with John here in the stream
- 39:54chat, he says legalize sports. Gambling has ruined sports.
- 39:58Maybe like, whatever it like if you're into sports gambling,
- 40:05which again, I know, I know you dabble in a little bit and
- 40:07you've had, hey, I'll give you credit, you've had some, you've
- 40:09had some good success. You've had some dubs.
- 40:12You've told me about some dubs you've you've you've landed upon
- 40:16but personally as a fan like forget, forget the players
- 40:21getting caught up in these things.
- 40:22As a fan, I'm just tired of it's it's everywhere.
- 40:27Like I can't I can't look at like a a a score bug or a bottom
- 40:32line ticker like you see on the bottom of our stream.
- 40:34On the bottom of our stream. It's.
- 40:37Easy to go to go subscribe to our YouTube.
- 40:40Exactly. That's the one.
- 40:41You can't look at any of those things anymore without seeing
- 40:44the over unders, the the, the money lines, the freaking the.
- 40:50I mean you know all that stuff better than I do.
- 40:51But I'm just like it's just it's so much, it's everywhere.
- 40:54And then it fall, it it, it falls right in line with the
- 41:01reality that like these guys are you can't sit there and say,
- 41:10well this is illegal. You shouldn't be doing that by
- 41:14the way, this is sponsored by by FanDuel.
- 41:17It's like we're going to we're going to call you out for that
- 41:20illegal activity that you're doing over there.
- 41:22And by the way your team is sponsored by DraftKings.
- 41:25It's like, I mean, I know it's. I get what you're saying.
- 41:28I get. I know it's.
- 41:29It's more, yeah, it's it's more intricate than that, but.
- 41:33There's a lot of action. You're promoting the action of
- 41:36something that can be done illegally, which is
- 41:39understandable, you know, I get that.
- 41:44I I don't think it's, I won't say it's ruined sports.
- 41:47I I will say it's ruined fandom. Which is kind of what I was
- 41:51saying. I won't maybe say it's ruined
- 41:53sports necessarily, but. Fandom.
- 41:54I think it's. I think it's right.
- 41:56I think it's ruined fandom because there are, you know,
- 41:59plenty of guys you know that are like indifferent about the
- 42:04result of the game as long as their bet hits teaches their
- 42:14own. I suppose I get what you're
- 42:17saying, but like, I don't know. I'm like, for me, baseball,
- 42:23First off, is so hard to bet on. It's insanely hard to bet on.
- 42:27Like there's not a harder sport to bet on.
- 42:30But for me, like if I'm watching a Monday Night Football game and
- 42:33it's The Jets and the Browns, like I have no dog in the fight,
- 42:41it makes it more interesting to be able to watch if you got 5
- 42:43bucks on the over, you know what I mean?
- 42:45So it's like I don't know that I'm not those degenerates out
- 42:49there that are like betting their rent check on on on
- 42:54hitting the under. It's like I I've never bet more
- 42:57than $20 on a single bet because I'm I'm not interested in being
- 43:01that depressed about losing that much money.
- 43:04I mean, I get it. Like the same thing could be
- 43:05said, could be said for like fantasy sports.
- 43:08And I know we talk about fantasy on here a lot, but it's like on
- 43:11a, on a much lesser stake equivalent.
- 43:15You look at that and it's like, OK if if it's a random Tuesday
- 43:19and you got the Mariners going up against the Brewers, it's
- 43:23like frankly, I probably wouldn't care about that match
- 43:26up on a random Tuesday in May. But like if I got some, if I got
- 43:29some dudes stacked up fantasy wise, like I want to tune in.
- 43:32So like I get, I get, I understand that element of it,
- 43:35but it's just it's become so like it's just such an immersive
- 43:42element of baseball and of sports now.
- 43:46And it it's. I don't know.
- 43:50Yeah, RIP David Fletcher. Though, I'm assuming, right?
- 43:56Have the Braves come out and said anything yet?
- 44:01Not to my knowledge, no. I I mean, if if you're the
- 44:05Braves, why even bother, right? Like, I think.
- 44:10I think anybody with a brain can look at that situation by like,
- 44:14dudes on the tail end of his career.
- 44:16He's playing in AAA right now. Maybe, let's just maybe, we'll
- 44:22let the Gwinnett stripers handle handle that.
- 44:25Because the Braves. According to Braves fans, Braves
- 44:28have enough problems of their own that they need to worry
- 44:31about right now. Sure.
- 44:38What do you think though, like bigger, bigger picture here do
- 44:40we think, do we think more is going to come out of this Shohei
- 44:44thing related activity related personnel?
- 44:50I think it's going to, you're going to start hearing more and
- 44:52more names, for sure. I think what makes things
- 45:02interesting specifically to that scenario now is like, was David
- 45:08Fletcher aware of what Ipe was doing?
- 45:13Not talking about the bets. I'm talking about, like, you
- 45:15know, stealing money from his teammate, 'cause that's like a
- 45:20whole different can of worms. How many people knew?
- 45:26Didn't say anything. It also it also makes you wonder
- 45:30too with a guy like David Fletcher who's not working with
- 45:32Shohei Ohtani type money. Like how?
- 45:34Like what his involvement looks like with with that, Or like how
- 45:37much more or how much less he knows based on the fact that
- 45:41he's not necessarily playing with the same, the same tier of
- 45:45funds. Yeah, true.
- 45:49That's a good point. I think it is.
- 45:53I think it's going to spread outside of like just MLB
- 45:56players. I mean, what was that thing that
- 45:57we saw with the, like, the Real Housewives cast member?
- 46:03You remember that? Oh yeah.
- 46:07I don't even. Did we even talk about that?
- 46:09I don't even think we mentioned that.
- 46:12That was weird. What was the IT?
- 46:16Was like a connection to IPE and I don't know what it was.
- 46:20Ryan Boyehian, a cast member of Bravo's reality TV series The
- 46:25Real Housewives of Orange County, is the bookmakers
- 46:28associate to whom IPE Mizahara wired money to pay his gambling
- 46:31debts, multiple sources with knowledge of the investigation
- 46:34said. Yeah, I think we're just going
- 46:37to start seeing different names come out of this that are a
- 46:41little random, little weird. Little weird.
- 46:47Some ripple effect there. But if David Fletcher knew like
- 46:52that is a do you think they're talking like how much they're
- 47:00throwing down on on like a parlay And it pays like, yeah, I
- 47:04got 150 GS on this. You think David Fletcher be
- 47:09like, what? Where'd you get that bag?
- 47:12You know, like, was there ever any any of that going on?
- 47:20Unassuming look. By the way, when you look at
- 47:22David Fletcher, you're like, I wouldn't guess that you were
- 47:26that guy. Yeah, but now that we know, I
- 47:29now when I look at David Fletcher and I'm like, I could
- 47:34see something there. There's, there's this.
- 47:36It's always those short, pesky guys.
- 47:38Something, something beneath the surface with that guy.
- 47:42Now just to. Strike out like that weird
- 47:44energy guy that you had on your team.
- 47:47Like I like you, but I would hate you if you were on the
- 47:50other team. That's a tough guy.
- 47:52That's a tough guy to get out. And that probably tells me that
- 47:56that's probably a guy that's going to at.
- 47:58That guy would be the guy to throw his rent onto the table.
- 48:02Yeah, Oh yeah, If, if worst. If worst comes to worst.
- 48:05I could see that. David Fletcher is a guy that's
- 48:08going to give you every last penny.
- 48:10No, that's all speculation. I'm I'm sure for legal reasons
- 48:14we can't. We can't say such things, but.
- 48:17Now whatever. All speculation do we do we want
- 48:23to speculate on these the on the meeting behind these Cardinals
- 48:27City Connect uniforms. I think it lasted 4 minutes.
- 48:33What do we call this place? The loo.
- 48:35Perfect. Throw that over there.
- 48:36You want to keep the same backdrop of the birds.
- 48:39Perfect. Do we have a question to
- 48:42everyone in the room here at at Cardinals HQ?
- 48:44Do we have an an existing jersey that we could maybe slap the
- 48:48nickname on? Yeah, we got some, like, red
- 48:51ones with the birds in the bat. Yep.
- 48:53Perfect. Wait, are you saying like that
- 48:57you're just going to take the loo and put it on a jersey and
- 49:01make it look exact? Yep, we've already done it,
- 49:04actually. I got a lunch.
- 49:06I got a lunch I got to get to. Let's just wrap this up.
- 49:08They're. Already in production, yeah.
- 49:11The what's funny is that I don't hate them.
- 49:14Yeah, yeah. But it's it's easy to for me.
- 49:20Like, I don't hate them, but it's super easy to be
- 49:24indifferent about it. Like I'm not going to sit here
- 49:26and say that I hate them, but I equally, I'm not going to say
- 49:29that I love them because the the uniform already exists.
- 49:31Yeah. They're pretty lazy for sure,
- 49:35but I don't hate them. No, but this isn't an
- 49:39independent, like passion project for the Cardinals like
- 49:42this is. It's a continued theme of just
- 49:47horrendous efforts put out by Nike fanatics.
- 49:51Whoever. It's lazy.
- 49:53I would have liked to have seen like a white jersey.
- 49:59Throw the arch on there and then like drip some, drip some BBQ
- 50:08sauce or something. And then should be like, that's
- 50:11the connection. We love BBQ sauce over here.
- 50:15We love our, we love our pulled pork.
- 50:20We're just a rack of ribs. Maybe the birds are sitting on a
- 50:22rack of ribs. Now there you get.
- 50:24Now that's an idea I can get behind.
- 50:26There we are at. Least at least, like if you if.
- 50:32If it's imperative that you have your jersey looks similar to a
- 50:37uniform that already exists, at least take the bat out.
- 50:41You know, swap it out with a rack of ribs.
- 50:44Maybe just put like Nellie's face on there.
- 50:48The like the logo on the on the the the chest area right there
- 50:53on the PEC. Yeah, just put Nellie's Nellie's
- 50:55face and call it. That's it.
- 50:57Who else is from Saint Louis? No one, that's.
- 51:00That's it. It's really just Nelly.
- 51:02I think he's the only guy that lives there or was from there.
- 51:08The hat Again, super lazy. I mean, come on.
- 51:12Like there's just no creativity going on this.
- 51:17It's your Every single one of these is like like when you're
- 51:21in school and you're like you tell your mom Sunday night that
- 51:24you have a a project due tomorrow and you don't have a
- 51:26poster board. That's what this is.
- 51:29It's like, oh, we got to whip something up.
- 51:34It's bad. We don't have poster board, but
- 51:39I can tape together 10 pieces of printer paper and maybe that'll
- 51:42work. That's what.
- 51:44That's what we're working with. And for the record, you're an
- 51:47absolute sheep if you think that there's any creativity behind
- 51:55the hat. And the same goes for for the
- 51:58Tigers. Same goes for the Tigers.
- 52:01Like, don't even try to defend this.
- 52:03And I would hope that a a fan base with a rich of a tradition,
- 52:09as Cardinals fans have that they would agree that they would look
- 52:12at this and go this is weak, this is lame.
- 52:17No effort, no creativity. Why?
- 52:20But you know, there's going to be those people that are going
- 52:22to, they're going to be dropping the fire emojis under the in the
- 52:26comments. They're going to be first in
- 52:27line at the team store to pick them up.
- 52:29Yo, this is heat. Got a cop for real.
- 52:33For real on God, I'm standing on business.
- 52:35No cap, except I'm here to get a cap.
- 52:39That's, that's what you're working with.
- 52:42Now I'm starting to wonder if these people aren't plants
- 52:45industry plants. It's like in the office when
- 52:50they have the the little flea market and the warehouse and
- 52:53they open the doors and or no, no, no, wrong, wrong reference.
- 52:56It's when they they're in Florida and they're they're
- 53:01they're selling the pyramid and they open the twice like open
- 53:06the gates and the people come storming through and it's like
- 53:09no, don't don't, no need to no need to stomp.
- 53:15Everyone will get one. It's the same.
- 53:17It's the same crap the end of Major League Baseball is putting
- 53:20people in these team stores on on release day.
- 53:23That's I'm convinced. I'm.
- 53:25Just glad it's almost over. What's up with the Was there
- 53:29like a Florida Lee on the sleeve?
- 53:32A what? Like a the Florida Lee.
- 53:35You know what I'm talking about. What is a Florida Lee?
- 53:37Isn't that what it's called? Who is Florida Lee?
- 53:41You know, like the Saints logo. Isn't that called like a Florida
- 53:43Lee? Is that what that is?
- 53:45I've never. I just called it the Saints
- 53:46logo. Is that a?
- 53:47I know there's a name for it, is that what it's called?
- 53:50Yeah, I think. Fleur de lis, pronounced French,
- 53:59right? Pronounced Fleur de lis or Fleur
- 54:04de lis. I thought you were saying Fleur
- 54:07de lis, Fleur de lis. Yeah, that's it.
- 54:11Well done. Look at that recall.
- 54:13Thanks. Is that on the?
- 54:17Is that on the the? I thought I saw it on like this
- 54:20side. I mean, what are we doing, man?
- 54:27Yeah, it is. Sure enough, it's on there.
- 54:33What is that about? There's literally AI typed in
- 54:37Cardinal City Connect. There's literally a video right
- 54:39here in this at the top of the search results.
- 54:43It's a video from their profile picture on Twitter to that.
- 54:49Yeah, that's it. That's what I said.
- 54:50Yeah, it's on there. It's on the.
- 54:52March, It looks sick. Why not put that as like the
- 54:55whole jersey where that hat? That would be a sick hat.
- 55:01Cousin Nike, That would be a sick hat, no?
- 55:03But right here on the top there's a a video from Ballet
- 55:07Sports Midwest and the the thumbnail for the videos?
- 55:10Like like fans sitting in the seats.
- 55:12He's wearing a Lou jersey. That's an industry plant that
- 55:16kids never seen a day of baseball in his life.
- 55:24Oh, Nelly's in the hype video. That's all they have, dude.
- 55:29I don't. We called that.
- 55:31I didn't even know that. I knew.
- 55:34I knew. No.
- 55:35I had no idea Nelly was in the mix.
- 55:37Oh yeah, It makes sense though. I thought that's what you're
- 55:39referencing. No.
- 55:41I bet you if you looked up Saint Louis population is literally
- 55:46one, and that's Nellie. In fact, I don't even know.
- 55:49He probably didn't even live there full time.
- 55:50Why would he live there full time?
- 55:53Probably in LA. Let me just do a quick little
- 55:57deep dive on Nellie real quick. He's not.
- 56:01He wasn't even born in Saint Louis.
- 56:03He was born in He was born in Austin, TX by the name of
- 56:08Cornell Irell Haynes Junior. Sure.
- 56:13What is the Saint Louis? He started in Saint Louis with
- 56:18his music career, it says. But that's not even the same.
- 56:22He literally said that I'm from the loo and I'm proud.
- 56:27He's not even from the loo. What are we talking about?
- 56:30This whole thing is fraudulent. This whole every aspect of this
- 56:34City Connect project, It's all fraudulent.
- 56:37The people that you bring in for the hype videos, they're not
- 56:41even from these places. What are we even doing?
- 56:45Nellie. Yeah, it's in the.
- 56:47It's in the stream chat. Nellie's an industry plant.
- 56:49Tell me. Tell me that's not true.
- 56:52You you saw who? Who did?
- 56:55Who? Answer me this who did Albert
- 56:57Pool host DAP up after his 700th home run?
- 57:06Who was sitting behind? Who was sitting behind home
- 57:08plate after 700th home run? There's a plant.
- 57:16We've been talking about him. It's not Nelly.
- 57:20It's Nelly. It is Nelly.
- 57:22Was he rocking a Dodgers jersey? 685 docked him up in Saint Louis
- 57:35like 99%. Sure, he was there for 700, but
- 57:38he was. He was there.
- 57:38Oh, you said he's from Texas. You said he was in Texas.
- 57:41My bad. Not California.
- 57:42Yeah. No, no, he Nellie was behind
- 57:46home plate for like the last, the last stretch there.
- 57:50But my point is an industry plant we're learning so much
- 57:54about Nellie. Didn't think we'd be learning
- 57:56about Nellie today. What'd they say about the little
- 58:00squiggly lines in the background?
- 58:02It was like the river or something, I thought.
- 58:05What they were I was just kidding.
- 58:07They really connected that to something else.
- 58:10You're talking about the the squiggly lines on the.
- 58:13Yeah, right. Yeah.
- 58:14I I didn't think that that was actually supposed to be
- 58:16connected to any part of the. City.
- 58:19No, for sure. Let me see here.
- 58:23I thought I saw something about the river or something.
- 58:26I still like them. WAVY red pinstripes are on the
- 58:30jerseys. Yeah, I don't know.
- 58:40Yeah, I mean, they're they're fine, they got the white pants.
- 58:42But I just, I don't know, it's it's lame.
- 58:47It's lazy. The hat is no good.
- 58:50It's the same uniform. I don't get it.
- 58:59Anyway, all right, wrapping up here with some clothes in the
- 59:03book talk, just moments ago, Rafael Devers became the first
- 59:08Red Sox hitter to have a home run in six straight game.
- 59:12So a little bit of history there for the old Red Sox of Boston.
- 59:17Alec Manoa. He back claps.
- 59:31Clap it. Up.
- 59:32No, that's that's not, that's not claps this time.
- 59:36That's just crickets. We can't double up, can't double
- 59:41up on the on the cricket meeting.
- 59:42For Alec Manoa, you can you can you?
- 59:45Absolutely. Can When are we allowed to say
- 59:47he's back? I was going to ask you that.
- 59:50His start, His most recent start?
- 59:52Seven 80s pitch, one hit, zero runs, one walk and seven KS he.
- 59:58Had another good start before that, didn't he?
- 1:00:00Yeah, which we mentioned. So it's it's been 2 two stars
- 1:00:04for him that have been excellent.
- 1:00:17Twins and rays. No.
- 1:00:22I don't know. I'm going to need you to.
- 1:00:24I'm going to need you to shut down somebody.
- 1:00:26That's. I mean, I don't really care for
- 1:00:28for his situation. I don't really care as much
- 1:00:30about the team. It's just the fact that he he's
- 1:00:36rally or tallying up punch outs, like that's that's big enough
- 1:00:40for me. Like it's just a matter of how
- 1:00:43many how many outings like this does he need to have to be
- 1:00:46considered back? 1515. 15 starts.
- 1:00:55Yeah, because like, it goes the other way, You know, you say,
- 1:00:57you know it's in there, like, so is the collapse.
- 1:01:00You know the collapse is in there now.
- 1:01:01True. That's fair.
- 1:01:03That's a valid point, yeah. Works both ways.
- 1:01:10I'm just fearful. I'm not trying to sound like a
- 1:01:13hater. I'm really not documented that I
- 1:01:17don't like Alec Manoa. So sure, call me a hater if you
- 1:01:20want but in this regard not trying to sound like a hater but
- 1:01:23I'm just worried that his confidence is going to come back
- 1:01:30we're. Gonna.
- 1:01:32Have to hear from them all every fifth day I.
- 1:01:37Don't want that either. I don't want any of it.
- 1:01:42I want none of it. Whatever.
- 1:01:43He's not back yet and I can't see it yet.
- 1:01:46Say it definitively, Alec Manoa's not back.
- 1:01:49Alec Manoa's not back. And Alec Manoa will need 15 more
- 1:01:53starts to be back. Yes, wow.
- 1:01:56All right, Paul. Skeens, however.
- 1:01:58Well, he here. Paul Skeen is here to stay 6
- 1:02:03innings pitched on what was that Saturday as well.
- 1:02:08No. Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday.
- 1:02:126 innings pitched, 0 hits, zero runs, 11 case against none other
- 1:02:22than the Chicago Cubs, who he faced in his debut.
- 1:02:24That's what I said in the group chat.
- 1:02:27That is more impressive to me than than a lot of the other
- 1:02:30stuff. You see the same guy twice in a
- 1:02:32week. Hitters typically like that dude
- 1:02:37shoved, dude shoved, fastball command look a lot better.
- 1:02:41He's this dude's real man that's fun to watch.
- 1:02:47He's. He Is my CTV good for the
- 1:02:55Pirates, man. Raise that thing.
- 1:02:58Don't play it. We're almost out of here.
- 1:03:01You. I know you were looking at it.
- 1:03:02You saw me? You saw me.
- 1:03:05You saw me looking for it. I was, I was ready.
- 1:03:07I was ready to pull the trigger on it.
- 1:03:08I was. I was absolutely ready.
- 1:03:11And lastly here, did you by chance see this Birmingham
- 1:03:14Southern? Is that that D3 school?
- 1:03:18The D3 school shut down. Dude, what a story.
- 1:03:23That's cool. If you're not familiar,
- 1:03:25Birmingham Southern, a Division Three school.
- 1:03:30Their baseball program just advanced to the D3 Super
- 1:03:33Regionals. They're caught.
- 1:03:36The university is shutting down permanently on May 31st.
- 1:03:41So 11 days. Here's the catch though.
- 1:03:48If they win that if they win the Super Regionals, they advance to
- 1:03:53the D3 College World Series and as a result they will be playing
- 1:03:59Rate school that no longer exists.
- 1:04:03That's sick. How wild is that?
- 1:04:06Like, think of. That's like the baseball
- 1:04:08equivalent of like the purge. There's no rules.
- 1:04:12You can do whatever you want. You don't have to worry about
- 1:04:15representing any sort of entity. Yeah.
- 1:04:18Because there is no entity to represent at that point.
- 1:04:23That's cool man. That's.
- 1:04:25I'm sensing a a Netflix documentary coming out about
- 1:04:28this that I think it's already in the works.
- 1:04:31I think it's in the works. Well, I don't want to get too
- 1:04:35carried away with it because I don't want it to come at the at
- 1:04:38the cost of my alma mater who's currently.
- 1:04:42Are they crossing? They're en route to the Super
- 1:04:45Regionals as well. Shout out the Christopher
- 1:04:47Newport captains. There it is.
- 1:04:51Shout out to the squad, just just clinched the regional title
- 1:04:56of the day, advancing to the Super Regionals.
- 1:04:59I was actually looking at it today.
- 1:05:00I think based on the bracket, I think they would match up with
- 1:05:07if Birmingham Southern advances from from there.
- 1:05:12Well, it's not. It was the way it works with
- 1:05:15baseball and Division Three. It's not like it's not like
- 1:05:17March Madness, it's not like a semi final thing like you get
- 1:05:20there and it's just a like it's just a a round Robin kind of
- 1:05:23thing or at least that's what it was.
- 1:05:26So I can't. I can't say they're going to
- 1:05:27match up necessarily, but. If.
- 1:05:30If both teams advance, they'll be in the mix there at the World
- 1:05:34Series, so would love to see that.
- 1:05:36But I think we could have a Netflix documentary that ends
- 1:05:41with a trip to the World Series, but I'm going to need my
- 1:05:45captains to to take the crown. It's a great story, but not.
- 1:05:49Take one for the team here. You're going to have another
- 1:05:51shot next year. These boys won't.
- 1:05:53Maybe they will. Maybe.
- 1:05:55You know, maybe the Birmingham Southern Baseball program is
- 1:05:59what ultimately saves the school.
- 1:06:02They look at this and they say, yeah, we're losing millions of
- 1:06:06dollars here, but. Let's run it back.
- 1:06:09We got to give these boys another shot.
- 1:06:12We've got to give these boys another shot that.
- 1:06:14'D be wild. And then you just add another
- 1:06:17layer to the Netflix story. Genius.
- 1:06:21And then, who knows, maybe they win it all next year and then
- 1:06:24that's like, that's. Then they're really back.
- 1:06:27That's cinema. That's cinema.
- 1:06:30Yeah, move up to D2 now. OK, well, that's not gonna care
- 1:06:33away. Well, that's not gonna care
- 1:06:35away. That's all I got.
- 1:06:37Unless you got anything else you want to touch on apologize for?
- 1:06:41The I do, I do actually. Can I can I jump in?
- 1:06:44Get your Get your apology out. Want to apologize for the shake
- 1:06:47up in the schedule? Was at a concert last night so I
- 1:06:50was unable to do our usual Sunday night recording.
- 1:06:52So here we are Monday night, but the plan is to proceed as
- 1:07:00scheduled with our regular Wednesday night recording.
- 1:07:05We'll see, we'll see what happens between now and then,
- 1:07:08very, very little baseball that will be played between now and
- 1:07:10then. One less day of it in fact.
- 1:07:14But we we've got some ideas in the in the mix to bring to the
- 1:07:21table for you guys on Wednesday night.
- 1:07:23So again, this, this should only be the this should be the only
- 1:07:27shake up this week. We'll be back.
- 1:07:29We'll be back Wednesday. What do you got?
- 1:07:32I'm going to need these teams to be better about taking care of
- 1:07:38their fans without being called out on social media.
- 1:07:42Specifically the girl that got smoked in the head at the Blue
- 1:07:47Jays game and nothing happened. Nothing.
- 1:07:51She stuck around. She waited.
- 1:07:53Just this freaking volleyball sticking out of her forehead,
- 1:07:57and nobody from the Blue Jays seems to care.
- 1:07:59And then you got to get called out on social media.
- 1:08:03These teams just need to be better, man.
- 1:08:05Like, you got to recognize where we are in the world.
- 1:08:07You're going to get called out. The girl that caught caught the
- 1:08:12first home run from Ohtani, right?
- 1:08:16Dodgers did nothing. They treated her like crap.
- 1:08:18You go on social media. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:08:21Let's, let's give you some more stuff.
- 1:08:22Be better organizations, Take care of your fans and don't let
- 1:08:27this stuff happen anymore. That poor girl, dude.
- 1:08:29Like, imagine if she drove home or something.
- 1:08:32Like that was a Shiner. She looked like Mike Tyson in
- 1:08:37the 90s, dude. Did you see she got a TOPS card
- 1:08:40out of it? That's big time.
- 1:08:42They literally took the picture of the like of her.
- 1:08:46The I think it was a picture. She took the stuff.
- 1:08:48She took, yeah. She took that and put it on a
- 1:08:51card and I think they said they of the the cards that they
- 1:08:55printed, they sent them all to her.
- 1:08:56So it's not like they're necessarily profiting off, which
- 1:08:58I it's fine, but whatever. Wow, you get a card out of it.
- 1:09:02Good for She seemed cool, too. Like she didn't like.
- 1:09:05I saw the tweet. It was like, hey, can you guys
- 1:09:07like, hook me up? It wasn't like a I'm disgusted
- 1:09:11with the Blue Jays. It was like, hey, I kind of got
- 1:09:14hit pretty hard and think you guys could do for me, so respect
- 1:09:18to that chick. But organizations just need to
- 1:09:20be better, man. Need to be better.
- 1:09:22Like someone. I need an usher coming down
- 1:09:24immediately if someone's getting in the face like that.
- 1:09:28And I absolutely agree with you, but, and I know this is going to
- 1:09:33make me just sound like a hardcore hater, but like I
- 1:09:36understand she got pelted and I'm with you.
- 1:09:39I think that she should have been attended to like she is
- 1:09:42probably. It's possible that she was.
- 1:09:43Maybe that didn't make the headlines.
- 1:09:47I would venture say they they took care of her at least took
- 1:09:49her to medical maybe. But.
- 1:09:50But didn't do anything to like. Right, right.
- 1:09:53Like the exactly, that's the part I'm like like you just had
- 1:09:59a caught some bad luck at the ballpark.
- 1:10:01Does this mean that anytime anything happened like this,
- 1:10:03we're like entitled to something?
- 1:10:06Yes, I'm. Just I'm, I'm just throwing the
- 1:10:08question out there. I'm not saying I necessarily
- 1:10:10endorse that way of thinking. I'm just throwing that out
- 1:10:12there. It's just put my body.
- 1:10:13On the line, put my body on the line.
- 1:10:16Those that that's, I don't, I don't know man those those are
