Transcript
- 0:13Speaker 1: My name is Julie Dawn Cole, but you may know
- 0:15Speaker 1: me as Ruka Salt, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:33Speaker 2: This episode is rated M for Misty. Yes, that's right,
- 0:37Speaker 2: this is a Misty episode, so it will be laced
- 0:39Speaker 2: with profanity even more than usual. If you're not comfortable
- 0:42Speaker 2: with this level of profanity, perhaps this isn't the episode
- 0:45Speaker 2: for you. But we have many other episodes to choose
- 0:47Speaker 2: from that do not feature Misty and will probably be
- 0:50Speaker 2: far less offensive. Okay, maybe. That having been said, on
- 0:54Speaker 2: with the show.
- 0:55Speaker 3: It's showtime, folks.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Enjoy the show.
- 1:11Speaker 5: Our nuclear reactor, pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Provide more cooling in the containment chamber.
- 1:43Speaker 2: To your stations, we have a movie meltdown.
- 1:45Speaker 6: Anything for my princess! What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:59Speaker 6: I'm Brian.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I'm Misty.
- 2:01Speaker 6: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 2:03Speaker 6: the outskirts of Derby City Comic Con.
- 2:05Speaker 7: Yay!
- 2:07Speaker 6: So, Misty, how's it going?
- 2:09Speaker 4: It's going pretty good.
- 2:10Speaker 6: It's been a few weeks since your previous appearance on
- 2:14Speaker 6: the show. How have things been?
- 2:16Speaker 4: Still fucking reading that book.
- 2:19Speaker 6: I mean, I guess previous listeners don't have to ask
- 2:23Speaker 6: what it is.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Literally. It is... It. It's the longest fucking book. I
- 2:30Speaker 4: wouldn't even mind it being long if it wasn't so
- 2:33Speaker 4: fucking boring. I mean, seriously, dude.
- 2:35Speaker 8: Words.
- 2:36Speaker 4: You don't need that many of them.
- 2:38Speaker 6: As previously mentioned, Stephen King gets self-indulgent.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Apparently I just need to stick with the short stories.
- 2:46Speaker 6: Yeah, really short ones like The Stand.
- 2:48Speaker 4: See, that's the thing. I read The Stand when I
- 2:51Speaker 4: was in junior high.
- 2:53Speaker 6: Maybe your brain hadn't fully developed yet.
- 2:55Speaker 4: I read that book, and it didn't take me that long,
- 2:56Speaker 4: but I was on summer vacation, so I probably spent
- 2:59Speaker 4: literally days reading. Go outside, you weirdo. I might have
- 3:03Speaker 4: read it outside. And we had the pool, so I
- 3:06Speaker 4: was like, let's sit outside by the pool and probably
- 3:07Speaker 4: read this fucking book.
- 3:08Speaker 6: No, you're one of those pool reading people.
- 3:09Speaker 4: I don't even care, dude, whatever. But it's like, I
- 3:12Speaker 4: read this thing, and I remember thinking, you know, it
- 3:14Speaker 4: wasn't bad, but it was long. This one, I'm just like,
- 3:17Speaker 4: it's such this feeling of dread.
- 3:20Speaker 6: Not within the story. In your world, as you come
- 3:23Speaker 6: to the book, each night you walk to the book,
- 3:26Speaker 6: and you're like, oh.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Literally every night is a struggle, because I'm sitting there like,
- 3:30Speaker 4: I'm like playing games on my phone, like putting it off.
- 3:32Speaker 4: I'm like, if I play this game long enough, I'll
- 3:34Speaker 4: be too tired to read this book.
- 3:35Speaker 6: You really are frightened by the book, but not in
- 3:38Speaker 6: the way most people are.
- 3:38Speaker 4: No, it's just so.
- 3:40Speaker 6: Frightened I might have to read you.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I've been reading this book for 48 days now. 48
- 3:46Speaker 4: of the longest days of my life. It has never
- 3:48Speaker 4: taken me 48 days to read anything, you know, to
- 3:53Speaker 4: the point. And now I'm like, all right. I want
- 3:55Speaker 4: to finish this book by Halloween. How many pages do
- 3:58Speaker 4: I have to read per night to get this shit
- 4:00Speaker 4: done by Halloween?
- 4:01Speaker 6: 300. Oh my god. Every night.
- 4:05Speaker 4: I think I'm at 82 at this point to finish
- 4:07Speaker 4: it by Halloween, which is only like four or five
- 4:09Speaker 4: days away.
- 4:10Speaker 6: This is really desperate when you've turned to math.
- 4:12Speaker 4: I know, right?
- 4:13Speaker 6: That's a sad, sorry state of affairs.
- 4:16Speaker 4: It's just like, dude, come on. I need like, is
- 4:19Speaker 4: it Cliff Notes? I need a Cliff Notes version of this.
- 4:20Speaker 6: I think you do. Actually, if only they made a
- 4:23Speaker 6: movie of it. You could just watch the movie and
- 4:25Speaker 6: be like, fuck this book.
- 4:27Speaker 4: I will watch the movie after I finish the book
- 4:28Speaker 4: so I can complain later about how much it's not
- 4:30Speaker 4: the same.
- 4:31Speaker 6: Once again, I will say, you're one of those people.
- 4:34Speaker 4: I don't care. Whatever, dude.
- 4:36Speaker 6: Yeah, but you hate the book. Why would you want
- 4:38Speaker 6: it to be like the book?
- 4:39Speaker 4: I want it to be like a better version of
- 4:40Speaker 4: the book. It is.
- 4:41Speaker 6: It's shorter.
- 4:43Speaker 4: But I can't stop now. I've already committed. I've already
- 4:45Speaker 4: put in. 48 days.
- 4:48Speaker 6: I appreciate you seeing it through, but.
- 4:52Speaker 4: I can't quit now. I'm not a quitter.
- 4:54Speaker 6: That's why I just didn't start it.
- 4:55Speaker 4: You know.
- 4:56Speaker 6: Sounds like reading.
- 4:57Speaker 4: You know what it needs? A pop-up book.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Luckily, you have one of those.
- 5:02Speaker 4: But not of it.
- 5:03Speaker 9: No.
- 5:05Speaker 6: But you got a new pop-up book.
- 5:06Speaker 4: I did, but after reading it, I'm afraid of the
- 5:09Speaker 4: things that they might actually put in the pop-up. I'm
- 5:12Speaker 4: afraid it's going to be the scene in the junkyard
- 5:15Speaker 4: with Peter or whatever, Patrick and Henry, and nobody wants.
- 5:18Speaker 6: That in the 3D. It's just some sort of weird orgy.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Close to.
- 5:24Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Which don't introduce characters 700 pages in just to go
- 5:29Speaker 4: about how bad and evil they are, just to kill
- 5:31Speaker 4: them off like In the next chapter. That's fucking stupid.
- 5:34Speaker 6: He was just like, I wonder how many pages I
- 5:35Speaker 6: can kill on something that's completely useless.
- 5:37Speaker 4: 98% of the book.
- 5:40Speaker 6: There you go.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Like I posted online on the Facebooks. If I could
- 5:44Speaker 4: cut out all the parts that I deemed unnecessary, the
- 5:46Speaker 4: sucker would be the size of a goddamn Goosebumps book.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Because there's so much that I'm just like.
- 5:50Speaker 6: And that's really all you want from it.
- 5:52Speaker 4: No shit, dude. I mean, I've never even read a
- 5:55Speaker 4: Goosebumps book.
- 5:56Speaker 6: Well, why not?
- 5:57Speaker 4: Because I'm more of a Fear Street all the way.
- 6:00Speaker 4: I have some Goosebumps books, but they're the Give Yourself Goosebumps,
- 6:03Speaker 4: which is kind of like Choose Your Own Adventure books,
- 6:05Speaker 4: but Goosebumpy. But whatever. Anyways, what have you been up to?
- 6:12Speaker 6: I mean, we're coming out of the Halloween season now,
- 6:16Speaker 6: so I can give you a... I won't say scary movie. Actually,
- 6:22Speaker 6: for some people, and I'm going to go with you,
- 6:24Speaker 6: a scary movie that I watched. Probably didn't involve kids. No,
- 6:29Speaker 6: but for the wrong reasons. Um, but again, and you
- 6:33Speaker 6: should know what it is. Cause like I finished watching
- 6:35Speaker 6: the movie and I think I immediately sent you a message.
- 6:39Speaker 6: I'm like, I know how the misty brain works. Don't
- 6:42Speaker 6: go out and get ghost story. Oh yeah. A ghost
- 6:46Speaker 6: story to be exact. Because yes, it has an awesome
- 6:49Speaker 6: old school dude wearing a sheet over his head with
- 6:52Speaker 6: some holes cut fries as the cover of it. It
- 6:56Speaker 6: looks like a ghost story. And you might be like, oh,
- 6:59Speaker 6: a ghost story. I want to see that. You do
- 7:02Speaker 6: not want to see it.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Not exciting.
- 7:04Speaker 6: I mean, again, by the end, I wanted to kind
- 7:08Speaker 6: of write it off midway in. I was just like, okay,
- 7:11Speaker 6: I see what he's doing. And that's the other thing.
- 7:13Speaker 6: We've had the director on the show. David Lowery is
- 7:15Speaker 6: the director who actually is super talented. And it's weird,
- 7:20Speaker 6: the things that he's done, especially last time, because this
- 7:23Speaker 6: is also the guy that just did Pete's Dragon. Which
- 7:25Speaker 6: I never saw him doing that kind of movie anyway.
- 7:28Speaker 6: But now to take this turn, which is a little
- 7:30Speaker 6: closer to, I guess, his original first movie.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Did it have Carl Urban in it?
- 7:35Speaker 6: Yeah, I believe it did.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Carl Urban should be in everything. I would watch so
- 7:41Speaker 4: much more shit if Carl Urban was in it. Because, God,
- 7:43Speaker 4: I love that man.
- 7:44Speaker 6: Midway into this ghost story, I'm like, OK, because I
- 7:48Speaker 6: at least that's why I was giving you fair warning,
- 7:49Speaker 6: because I had heard what it was and I was
- 7:51Speaker 6: still interested. Again, I'm fine with going a little more
- 7:55Speaker 6: down the artsy road than I'm pretty sure. Again, I
- 7:58Speaker 6: know how the Misty Brain works. So I knew how
- 8:01Speaker 6: it worked. I knew what was going to happen. I
- 8:03Speaker 6: knew what the basic premise was and I was still
- 8:05Speaker 6: on board. But midway in, I was like, oh, my God,
- 8:08Speaker 6: something needs to happen. Like, this is just so slow.
- 8:12Speaker 6: I knew that 90% of it had no talking in it. Okay,
- 8:17Speaker 6: I'll throw out for everyone else, because I know you
- 8:20Speaker 6: do not care. I'm going to throw out a basic
- 8:22Speaker 6: spoiler alert for the premise.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not going to see this.
- 8:24Speaker 6: Because I'm guessing, again, I will explain this to you.
- 8:27Speaker 6: I already said there's no talking just about. In the
- 8:30Speaker 6: grand scheme of it, it's a minimal amount of talking
- 8:33Speaker 6: in the entire movie. But, yeah, here's the basic premise.
- 8:37Speaker 6: So if you don't want to hear it, skip ahead
- 8:38Speaker 6: or whatever for the rest of you peoples. But, yeah,
- 8:42Speaker 6: so it's, and again, it's a good cast. It's Rooney
- 8:45Speaker 6: Mara and Casey Affleck are the couple and they're, I
- 8:51Speaker 6: think they are married. They're definitely a couple and a
- 8:53Speaker 6: couple that's been together for years.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I don't care for Casey Affleck.
- 8:57Speaker 6: I thought you liked Little Shaver.
- 9:01Speaker 4: It seems like I might have at some point a
- 9:02Speaker 4: long time ago. It seems like a.
- 9:03Speaker 6: Long time ago he did. Now, I mean, granted, I'm
- 9:06Speaker 6: not arguing because what I know of him in the
- 9:08Speaker 6: real world now, I want to put him in that
- 9:10Speaker 6: camp of no thank you, but he's a decent actor.
- 9:14Speaker 6: I'll give him.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Out of the Afflecks if I had to choose.
- 9:17Speaker 6: I have no problem with Ben. Ben is a good
- 9:22Speaker 6: director and can be a good actor in the right circumstance.
- 9:26Speaker 6: He's great in Mara.
- 9:29Speaker 4: The bomb and phantoms.
- 9:30Speaker 6: The bomb and phantoms. It's sad that I was in
- 9:33Speaker 6: the middle of getting it out when you beat me
- 9:34Speaker 6: to it. So, yeah, so, again, spoilers for anyone else.
- 9:41Speaker 6: Early on in the movie, Casey Affleck dies.
- 9:45Speaker 11: Good.
- 9:46Speaker 6: He then becomes a guy in a sheet with holes
- 9:50Speaker 6: cut out in the eyes, ghosts. He comes back to
- 9:54Speaker 6: his house.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Is there pottery involved? Come on, go.
- 10:00Speaker 6: He comes back to his house. Whoopee, calm down.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Don't give me that look.
- 10:05Speaker 6: He comes back to his house where Rooney Mar is
- 10:09Speaker 6: and is kind of grieving and he can't interact with
- 10:13Speaker 6: her because he's a ghost.
- 10:14Speaker 4: So no pottery.
- 10:15Speaker 6: So he just watches.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Creepy. Creeper. I don't like it.
- 10:21Speaker 6: That's the movie. I'm telling you the plot of the movie.
- 10:24Speaker 6: This happens almost immediately. And that's the rest of the movie.
- 10:30Speaker 6: I mean, it is like a hell dimension. I mean, basically,
- 10:34Speaker 6: it's a horrible purgatory because he can't really do anything. Again,
- 10:39Speaker 6: then later there's like, can he interact with stuff or not? Whatever.
- 10:42Speaker 6: But for the most part, he can't do anything. He
- 10:44Speaker 6: can't talk to her. He can't interact with her. He can't.
- 10:48Speaker 6: So he just stands and watches her.
- 10:50Speaker 4: That sounds awful.
- 10:51Speaker 6: And, I mean, points to her, again, for everyone else,
- 10:55Speaker 6: I told you to get lost. Points to her, there's
- 10:57Speaker 6: a scene where in the middle of her, like, grieving
- 11:01Speaker 6: and dealing with stuff, she, like, somebody brought, you know,
- 11:04Speaker 6: people die, they bring food to your house. Somebody brought her, like,
- 11:06Speaker 6: a pie. She comes home and she's just kind of, like,
- 11:10Speaker 6: distraught and whatever and then she, like, gets a spoon
- 11:13Speaker 6: or whatever out of the thing and, like, starts to
- 11:16Speaker 6: eat a little of the pie. Sits on the fucking floor.
- 11:20Speaker 6: And wipes out that pie. Like, in one sitting. I
- 11:24Speaker 6: don't think it cuts. Like, I think she ate the
- 11:26Speaker 6: entirety of that pie sitting on the floor in the kitchen.
- 11:30Speaker 6: And that was her, like, hardcore level of, you know, grieving.
- 11:35Speaker 6: You know, pie.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Is it a stunt pie?
- 11:37Speaker 6: I don't know. She was not doing so well after
- 11:40Speaker 6: she ate a pie. Let's just put it that way.
- 11:41Speaker 4: What kind of pie was it? Important things. I need
- 11:44Speaker 4: to know this.
- 11:44Speaker 6: See, that's the thing. We were far away. I'm trying
- 11:46Speaker 6: to remember if we could even tell exactly what it was.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Because if it was pumpkin, I could totally get behind that.
- 11:49Speaker 6: She was digging into a whole... No, it was more
- 11:51Speaker 6: of a top cruster. It was more of an apple, boysenberry.
- 11:55Speaker 6: I'm going to go with maybe a snozzberry. Oh, gross.
- 11:57Speaker 6: Because the snozzberries taste like snozzberries.
- 12:00Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Which, if you know what snozzberries are.
- 12:02Speaker 6: You're cool? I make that reference all the time. It's
- 12:04Speaker 6: kind of like a litmus test for cool people. You know,
- 12:07Speaker 6: I'm just like, if you look at me and go, what?
- 12:09Speaker 6: And just, I'm like, go away. Just go away. And
- 12:12Speaker 6: then every once in a while, there's a person that's like,
- 12:14Speaker 6: ha ha. And I'm like, thank you. That's all I want.
- 12:17Speaker 4: But do you know what snozzberries actually are?
- 12:20Speaker 6: We are the makers of dreams.
- 12:23Speaker 4: No, I mean like... Because it's actually a dirty thing.
- 12:26Speaker 4: One more.
- 12:29Speaker 6: Reason that movie's awesome. Everything about it is inappropriate for children.
- 12:32Speaker 4: It makes it even more inappropriate, and I'm going to
- 12:34Speaker 4: look it up just to make sure that I'm not
- 12:35Speaker 4: completely making it up, but I'm pretty sure it's something
- 12:37Speaker 4: that's like, whoa, what did he just put in there? Gross.
- 12:41Speaker 6: We are the dreamers of dreams, and we are the
- 12:43Speaker 6: makers of music.
- 12:46Speaker 4: It was like the filthiest joke ever hidden in a
- 12:48Speaker 4: child's movie. We're going to have the Urban Dictionary version
- 12:51Speaker 4: of it right now.
- 12:52Speaker 6: Well, they are hardcore from the streets. That's a weird.
- 13:02Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure... Oh, wait.
- 13:04Speaker 13: Yep.
- 13:04Speaker 4: That's it.
- 13:04Speaker 6: That's a weird title. I mean, again, I've heard a
- 13:10Speaker 6: lot of terms for that over the years, but that's
- 13:13Speaker 6: an odd one to go with. But, all right. So,
- 13:16Speaker 6: Veruca's licking a snozzberry. Good to know.
- 13:20Speaker 4: I just got a virus on my phone looking that up,
- 13:22Speaker 4: by the way.
- 13:25Speaker 6: You also have snozzberry problems. You got all virused up
- 13:29Speaker 6: by one.
- 13:30Speaker 4: I'll look on crack.com because they wouldn't lie to me. Yeah,
- 13:33Speaker 4: I was right. Let's see. Except that Roald Dahl, the
- 13:37Speaker 4: book's author, knew exactly what snozzberries were. They're dicks. Snozzberries
- 13:42Speaker 4: are dicks. Willy Wonka made those kids lick dick-flavored wallpaper.
- 13:47Speaker 6: Oh, Veruca. Anyway. That aside, yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Do you feel more educated? Do you feel more learned? Okay,
- 13:59Speaker 4: go ahead, snozzberries.
- 14:00Speaker 6: No, ghosts. Just, yeah, I mean, that's pretty.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Now I really don't want a snozzberry pie.
- 14:08Speaker 6: Are you sure?
- 14:09Speaker 4: I'm positive.
- 14:11Speaker 6: But a sandwich. I've seen a movie where you get
- 14:13Speaker 6: a sandwich. Anyway, we'll get back to that some other day.
- 14:17Speaker 4: If it was chest pie, I could probably understand, or
- 14:20Speaker 4: pumpkin pie, but if it's like you said, like a
- 14:22Speaker 4: Like a cobbler?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Derby Pie.
- 14:24Speaker 6: I mean, since being Derby City Comic Con, Derby Pie.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Is the way to roll.
- 14:28Speaker 4: It's got nuts.
- 14:29Speaker 14: It's freaking awesome.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Anyway. If you get rid of the nuts, the snobberries.
- 14:34Speaker 6: You just want random chocolatey pie filling goo.
- 14:37Speaker 4: I do, I do. That's my favorite. Weirdo.
- 14:39Speaker 6: Go ahead. Speaking of weirdos, Ghost. I don't know. It's
- 14:45Speaker 6: just frustrating because it has moments where, again, visually it
- 14:48Speaker 6: looks great. I think by the end of it, like
- 14:51Speaker 6: I still kind of like, it's one of those, I
- 14:52Speaker 6: was kind of glad I saw it. I feel like
- 14:56Speaker 6: a good amount of people, I'm going to throw out
- 15:00Speaker 6: the P word. And which is sort of pretentious. Yeah.
- 15:04Speaker 6: I'm like, I'm like, I just sort of, uh.
- 15:05Speaker 4: As opposed to the P word I used earlier, which.
- 15:08Speaker 6: You probably use all the time, but no, it's like they,
- 15:11Speaker 6: I mean, that is sort of like going too far
- 15:15Speaker 6: with most movie people. You don't want to, you, even
- 15:18Speaker 6: like calling something that sometimes is this snobby backhanded, it
- 15:23Speaker 6: works so many, it works wrong to the point that
- 15:25Speaker 6: I rarely use it because I feel like that most
- 15:28Speaker 6: things that other people will say that about is stuff
- 15:31Speaker 6: that actually find value in. So that's like, I don't
- 15:34Speaker 6: use it lightly, but I mean, I, and again, I'm
- 15:37Speaker 6: not even saying that by the end, I kind of,
- 15:39Speaker 6: I'm glad I saw it. I appreciated what it was doing.
- 15:42Speaker 4: You sound so pretentious.
- 15:43Speaker 6: But I feel like a lot of people would throw
- 15:46Speaker 6: that word out there. And I get it. I don't
- 15:49Speaker 6: fully feel that way. I still think it's worth watching.
- 15:54Speaker 6: But it is a fight. It was me and it.
- 15:57Speaker 6: I was just midway in going, really? There's nothing else?
- 16:01Speaker 4: Did it take you 48 days to watch this damn movie?
- 16:05Speaker 6: I might have stopped and picked up again the next
- 16:07Speaker 6: morning now that I think about it. Because I might
- 16:10Speaker 6: have just gone to sleep because there was nothing going on.
- 16:13Speaker 6: So I don't know. I know I'm an idiot and
- 16:16Speaker 6: I'm not educated enough to fully appreciate this movie. But
- 16:21Speaker 6: it's still pretty boring. I'm just saying, guys. I like
- 16:24Speaker 6: what he's doing. Again, he's a very talented filmmaker. Just
- 16:29Speaker 6: a little more going on. There is a really cool moment,
- 16:33Speaker 6: a couple of them technically, where he interacts with another ghost.
- 16:37Speaker 6: It's kind of my favorite part of the movie, I think.
- 16:39Speaker 6: There's another ghost. And it's really sad. The ghost is just,
- 16:43Speaker 6: the other ghost is doing the same. Like the whole
- 16:45Speaker 6: horrible purgatory that these creatures live in is like, that's
- 16:48Speaker 6: what it is. It's just standing around waiting for all
- 16:50Speaker 6: eternity for the world to fall apart, I guess, because
- 16:53Speaker 6: that person's never going to come back for you because
- 16:55Speaker 6: they don't know you're there. So whoever you're waiting for,
- 16:58Speaker 6: it's not going to pan out. It's not good. It
- 17:01Speaker 6: sounds awful.
- 17:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 17:04Speaker 6: If you like weird arthouse stuff, you might like it.
- 17:07Speaker 6: Go for it. I know how Misty Brain works, so
- 17:09Speaker 6: that ain't happening. So for the rest of you, if
- 17:11Speaker 6: you fall into Misty Brain territory, you might just go
- 17:14Speaker 6: ahead and skip it and pick a different scary movie
- 17:18Speaker 6: with a different kind of ghost.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I watched some movies, too.
- 17:21Speaker 3: All right.
- 17:21Speaker 6: What have you seen?
- 17:22Speaker 4: I don't think there was any ghosts. Technically, one of
- 17:26Speaker 4: the guys is dead, so he could possibly be a
- 17:28Speaker 4: ghost now. I watched Green Room. Is it The Green Room?
- 17:32Speaker 6: I think it's just Green Room.
- 17:33Speaker 12: Green Room.
- 17:34Speaker 4: I'd never seen him before. I love me some Anton Yelchin,
- 17:37Speaker 4: even though I can't say his name or shit. But
- 17:39Speaker 4: he was so delightfully cute. I just had some problems
- 17:43Speaker 4: with the movie.
- 17:43Speaker 6: I really liked it. I have to say.
- 17:46Speaker 4: I liked it.
- 17:47Speaker 6: I was impressed with what they were doing.
- 17:49Speaker 4: But I was pulling a boyfriend and being like, nope, nope, nope.
- 17:52Speaker 4: That wouldn't happen like that. I'm like, get him. You
- 17:55Speaker 4: got your fucking hand cut off. You're going to bleed out.
- 17:58Speaker 4: I'm sorry. You just are. A little bit of duct tape.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Ain't fixing that shit.
- 18:01Speaker 6: Hey, nothing can kill Anton.
- 18:03Speaker 12: Oh, wait.
- 18:03Speaker 8: Shit.
- 18:04Speaker 4: His own fucking car. Come on, now. Really?
- 18:07Speaker 6: That's... Again, universe. There's a lot of other people I
- 18:10Speaker 6: would have put ahead of him, and that is a
- 18:12Speaker 6: terrible way to do it.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Dude, seriously.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Seriously.
- 18:15Speaker 4: You know?
- 18:16Speaker 6: Like.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Fuck, dude. I mean, he was a good actor. He
- 18:21Speaker 4: was so cute. He was, you know... I can't argue.
- 18:24Speaker 4: The Wessels.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Dude was adorable.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Wessels.
- 18:26Speaker 6: You could say Wessels.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Shit.
- 18:29Speaker 6: He was actually a legitimately good actor. Like, yeah, it's
- 18:33Speaker 6: just sad all around.
- 18:35Speaker 4: We'll get no more Odd Thomas movies now. I know.
- 18:37Speaker 6: We wanted sequels, damn it. I mean, I know we
- 18:39Speaker 6: were the only ones, but we wanted sequels.
- 18:43Speaker 4: But anyway, so it's like, my only complaint was the
- 18:47Speaker 4: technicalities of it where I'm like, dude, no, you would
- 18:49Speaker 4: have bled out by now because they literally just cut
- 18:52Speaker 4: your hand off After you're stupid enough to give them
- 18:54Speaker 4: the one fucking gun that you have. Are you fucking retarded?
- 18:58Speaker 4: Who does that? Oh, give us the gun. Yeah, that
- 19:00Speaker 4: never fucking works. You don't give them the one gun
- 19:03Speaker 4: you have when you have no other weapons. Stupid ass.
- 19:07Speaker 6: Again, I think the fact that you're having this conversation
- 19:10Speaker 6: with the television. is part of why I think it's
- 19:13Speaker 6: so good. It's why it's any, I've said it many times,
- 19:16Speaker 6: any movie that makes you immediately be like, no, no, no,
- 19:19Speaker 6: that ain't what I do. Let me tell you what
- 19:21Speaker 6: I do. Like if you immediately, because it is such
- 19:23Speaker 6: a weird, creepy scenario that like, and I think I
- 19:28Speaker 6: said that when I first watched it, I was like,
- 19:30Speaker 6: There are a lot of weird little, you know, you
- 19:32Speaker 6: talk to anybody who's played in a band, they've ended
- 19:34Speaker 6: up in some place that's that out of the way
- 19:36Speaker 6: and creepy and run down and falling apart and God
- 19:38Speaker 6: knows who's there. So, like, that scenario could happen. And
- 19:42Speaker 6: then when you get in that little room and you realize, oh, shit,
- 19:45Speaker 6: now we're here, what the fuck are we going to do?
- 19:48Speaker 2: Like, that.
- 19:49Speaker 6: I think, is such a good premise in and of
- 19:52Speaker 6: itself that, like, the entire rest of the movie, you're like, okay,
- 19:55Speaker 6: so if I'm there, here's what we do. Like, I
- 19:57Speaker 6: think anything that makes you, like, the tension is ratcheted
- 20:01Speaker 6: up so much.
- 20:03Speaker 4: It wasn't even tension. It's just flat-out aggravation. I'm like,
- 20:05Speaker 4: what the fuck are you... What the... Don't open the... No. See,
- 20:08Speaker 4: now you deserve to have your hand cut off because
- 20:10Speaker 4: you're a goddamn idiot.
- 20:10Speaker 6: I'm telling you, I think anything that can work that
- 20:14Speaker 6: premise that well is just really well made. And I
- 20:17Speaker 6: am so... I mean, I'm always amazed by him, but
- 20:21Speaker 6: I'm so thrilled with Patrick Stewart.
- 20:22Speaker 4: He is a badass.
- 20:23Speaker 6: Because he is a badass.
- 20:25Speaker 4: And like, again.
- 20:26Speaker 6: Everything else he plays is, like, the nicest guy. You know,
- 20:29Speaker 6: Professor X is so awesome in every... Except Logan. But
- 20:32Speaker 6: other than that.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Yeah, it was all over the bad words of Logan.
- 20:34Speaker 6: Like, he's so, like, nice and, you know, upbeat and
- 20:38Speaker 6: looking out for humanity and all the... I'm like, even... Like,
- 20:42Speaker 6: even in freaking Star Trek. Like, he's always the level-headed.
- 20:45Speaker 6: He's always got a plan. He's always trying to help people.
- 20:48Speaker 6: So watching him be a freaking Nazi and be, like,
- 20:51Speaker 6: so cool about it.
- 20:53Speaker 12: Like, if.
- 20:53Speaker 4: I'm like.
- 20:55Speaker 6: I even like his approach to his own people. Like
- 20:57Speaker 6: I love the way he handles everything. He's just kind
- 21:01Speaker 6: of cool the whole time. And yet I have to
- 21:05Speaker 6: hate him because he's a freaking Nazi. But I'm like,
- 21:07Speaker 6: he does everything. Like again, his performance is just so,
- 21:12Speaker 6: just kind of almost laid back in a situation that
- 21:15Speaker 6: everyone else is losing their damn mind. He's so just
- 21:18Speaker 6: kind of like, all right, we're going to deal with it.
- 21:20Speaker 6: Here's what we do. And like each step things go
- 21:22Speaker 6: wrong and more wrong. And he's just like, all right, fine,
- 21:25Speaker 6: we can still, hold on, here's what we need to do. Like,
- 21:27Speaker 6: he always just kind of is relatively calm for the
- 21:30Speaker 6: horrible shit that's going on. Like, I don't know. I'm
- 21:33Speaker 6: amazed with him in that movie.
- 21:35Speaker 4: I guess, I guess I was very impressive. I guess
- 21:37Speaker 4: I don't know. He is, like, so not the Patrick
- 21:41Speaker 4: Stewart that you see on, like, the Twitter where he's wearing, like,
- 21:44Speaker 4: a lobster costume or some shit like that.
- 21:47Speaker 6: Just about anywhere else you've seen him, like.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Or him buddying around with Ian McKellen. And they're just like, oh,
- 21:54Speaker 4: they're the cutest little thing ever. They're so sweet together.
- 21:57Speaker 4: And I'm just like, dude, he's a fucking Nazi.
- 21:59Speaker 6: The only thing that's as weird as that performance in
- 22:02Speaker 6: the rest of his run is his continual, actually not
- 22:07Speaker 6: even guest appearance, he became a pretty regular on American Dad.
- 22:12Speaker 6: And the things he says on that show. But the
- 22:15Speaker 6: character also kind of looks like him. So, yeah, it's
- 22:19Speaker 6: It's another weird choice on his part. So once again,
- 22:22Speaker 6: points to him for making some odd decisions over the
- 22:25Speaker 6: years and doing something kind of cool. And you wouldn't
- 22:27Speaker 6: expect that.
- 22:28Speaker 4: I watched another movie, too.
- 22:30Speaker 5: All right.
- 22:30Speaker 4: I watched They.
- 22:33Speaker 6: Now, this is another one of those titles that I'm like, wait,
- 22:36Speaker 6: what are we? Which one is? Is that giant ants? No,
- 22:40Speaker 6: I feel like that's them.
- 22:40Speaker 4: That's them.
- 22:42Speaker 6: So, which one is they?
- 22:43Speaker 12: They.
- 22:43Speaker 4: We just said it was like a 98, 99 movie, perhaps?
- 22:49Speaker 4: With the delightfully crack-headed Ethan Embry. Oh, no. He plays
- 22:54Speaker 4: like a side character. He's one of those that's like,
- 22:57Speaker 4: there's this girl and she has her boyfriend who is
- 22:59Speaker 4: the fucking, you can't get more vanilla bland than Mark Lucas.
- 23:05Speaker 6: I still... I'm okay with him and Buffy.
- 23:08Speaker 13: No, no.
- 23:08Speaker 6: I know you hate him.
- 23:09Speaker 4: I did. He's so kittenish.
- 23:11Speaker 6: I didn't hate. Again, like he.
- 23:13Speaker 4: He's so, oh, you can't get more. Just, oh, boring, bland.
- 23:18Speaker 6: Which is how they play him out. Like, again, that
- 23:20Speaker 6: may be perfect casting because he plays it pretty damn perfect.
- 23:23Speaker 4: On that season. Oh, dude. Well, anyways, it's this chick
- 23:26Speaker 4: and she's got her boyfriend, but then she has this
- 23:28Speaker 4: friend that she's had since like. forever they grew up
- 23:31Speaker 4: together or whatever and he calls her in the middle
- 23:33Speaker 4: of the night freaking his goddamn mind out until she
- 23:37Speaker 4: goes to meet him at some diner and he's losing
- 23:40Speaker 4: his shit about they are coming because apparently when they
- 23:43Speaker 4: were younger they both had night terrors it's a whole
- 23:46Speaker 4: bunch of a lot of people in general it's something
- 23:49Speaker 4: that i looked up online.
- 23:49Speaker 6: It's pretty creepy actually don't look too far into it
- 23:53Speaker 6: i will leave it in the it's best to not
- 23:56Speaker 6: learn too much about night terrors.
- 23:59Speaker 4: Can you get it by knowing too much?
- 24:01Speaker 6: Basically, what I've heard is a great movie about, I
- 24:06Speaker 6: don't even think it's fully a documentary. I think it
- 24:08Speaker 6: sets it up almost like a story.
- 24:10Speaker 4: I think I've heard about it.
- 24:11Speaker 6: But the thing is, part of it is if you
- 24:15Speaker 6: watch it, it almost puts it in your head so
- 24:18Speaker 6: much that you can kind of give yourself nightmares. Like,
- 24:20Speaker 6: that is almost the way that they work, is if
- 24:22Speaker 6: you worry about getting them, it creates them, and then
- 24:25Speaker 6: you do get them because you were worried about getting them. So,
- 24:29Speaker 6: for you in particular, don't learn anything else about night terrors.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Well, uh, boyfriend kind of has, like, a version of it,
- 24:35Speaker 4: where he'll, like, he'll be, because, like, he does it
- 24:37Speaker 4: at night when we're asleep, and it'll, like, he can't
- 24:39Speaker 4: control anything except for his breathing. Like, he's still, like,
- 24:43Speaker 4: mentally awake.
- 24:44Speaker 6: He's Pretty close, yeah, that's kind of how it goes.
- 24:46Speaker 4: And it's like, so I have to wake him up,
- 24:47Speaker 4: because he's like, if you hear me breathing like this,
- 24:50Speaker 4: wake me up as soon as possible. Creepy. So he
- 24:52Speaker 4: goes through this, and all these people are sitting there,
- 24:54Speaker 4: and it's like, it's this rapid breathing starts, and it's
- 24:56Speaker 4: like kind of labored, and I'm like, oh shit, he's
- 24:58Speaker 4: going through it again, so I have to wake him
- 25:00Speaker 4: up real quick! You know.
- 25:01Speaker 6: Because they're smacking him, Bob.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Sometimes.
- 25:03Speaker 6: Wake up!
- 25:04Speaker 4: I do that anyway. He snores a lot.
- 25:06Speaker 6: That does sound like it.
- 25:07Speaker 4: So I mean, this is something that's like, it is
- 25:09Speaker 4: like a legit thing, and it's absolutely terrifying, you know,
- 25:11Speaker 4: because Even when you're on the outside, you happen to
- 25:14Speaker 4: be like, oh shit, what's going on? But she meets
- 25:19Speaker 4: her friend, and he's telling her that they've come back.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Apparently when they were kids, they used to have it,
- 25:24Speaker 4: and there was something in their night terrors that was
- 25:27Speaker 4: very specific. And after all these years, they quit. They'd
- 25:32Speaker 4: quit for a long time, and after a while, they'd
- 25:33Speaker 4: just come back. So he's losing his goddamn mind. He's like,
- 25:36Speaker 4: you know what? They're not going to get me. Fucking
- 25:39Speaker 4: shoots himself. Right there in the diner.
- 25:41Speaker 6: Well, I guess they didn't get him.
- 25:43Speaker 4: So she's spending the rest of the time like... Did
- 25:45Speaker 4: we throw out the spoiler on this one? No, this happens...
- 25:48Speaker 4: This is really early in the movie.
- 25:49Speaker 6: This is the setup for the movie.
- 25:50Speaker 12: Okay.
- 25:50Speaker 4: Because the whole rest of the movie is like, all right,
- 25:53Speaker 4: is he crazy? Did... Because he's always been a bit off.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Was he crazy? Or is there actually something... And now
- 25:59Speaker 4: it's coming after her because she had him too. So,
- 26:02Speaker 4: I mean, it's... I'm not spoiling anything by telling you
- 26:04Speaker 4: that because it happens within like the first 10, 15
- 26:06Speaker 4: minutes of the movie. All right.
- 26:07Speaker 5: All right.
- 26:09Speaker 4: So it's like... It's just like, boom. And then it's like,
- 26:12Speaker 4: you know... his friends from college start showing up and
- 26:15Speaker 4: one of them's Ethan Embry, you know, and it's like
- 26:18Speaker 4: apparently they've had night terrors too. They've had the same experience,
- 26:21Speaker 4: you know, when it's, when it, when it's, when it's
- 26:25Speaker 4: coming your turn, you'll get like this mark. They marked
- 26:28Speaker 4: you at some point. And when they, when the time comes,
- 26:30Speaker 4: it'll start like showing up.
- 26:33Speaker 6: Like they call your number at the deli.
- 26:35Speaker 12: Exactly.
- 26:35Speaker 4: Pretty much. Anyway. So the whole thing, it's like, All right, well,
- 26:39Speaker 4: was he crazy? Or is Ethan Embry crazy?
- 26:43Speaker 6: In the real world, yes, a little bit.
- 26:45Speaker 4: It was the whole thing. It's like your question is like,
- 26:47Speaker 4: all right, who's crazy? Am I crazy?
- 26:51Speaker 6: You might be.
- 26:53Speaker 4: But the whole thing is just like her trying to
- 26:54Speaker 4: convince Mark Lucas, you know, that something's going on. And
- 26:58Speaker 4: he's just an absolute. Once he's bland, he just becomes
- 27:02Speaker 4: an asshole. And I'm like, dude, fuck you.
- 27:05Speaker 6: You're an ass.
- 27:05Speaker 4: You're dead to me. I already didn't like you, but
- 27:07Speaker 4: now you just crossed the line. Because her best friend,
- 27:10Speaker 4: this guy she's known since she was a kid, killed
- 27:13Speaker 4: himself in front of her. She's starting to have these
- 27:14Speaker 4: night terrors. She's afraid something's coming to get her. Apparently
- 27:17Speaker 4: he's a paramedic or something. He's like, well, I just
- 27:20Speaker 4: peeled 97 people out of cars, so my trouble's real.
- 27:23Speaker 4: Yours is in your head. I'm like, oh, you fucking asshole. Anyways, whatever.
- 27:28Speaker 4: So it's like the whole movie is just trying to
- 27:29Speaker 4: figure out, you know, is it actually something? Because it...
- 27:34Speaker 4: It's one of those where it's good because you don't
- 27:36Speaker 4: really see it a lot of the time. Because in
- 27:37Speaker 4: a lot of movies, they just blatantly throw whatever it
- 27:39Speaker 4: is out at you. This one, it's like one of
- 27:42Speaker 4: those where you see it, like, along the edge of
- 27:44Speaker 4: the thing. There's only, like, one or two shots in
- 27:47Speaker 4: the entire movie where you, like, get a full frontal
- 27:49Speaker 4: shot of what this thing is trying to get her.
- 27:51Speaker 4: And there's this whole thing where apparently it's in another dimension.
- 27:55Speaker 4: And once you get, if it gets you, it can
- 27:56Speaker 4: take you into that, you know, It was actually a
- 28:01Speaker 4: lot better than I thought. I thought it was going
- 28:02Speaker 4: to be one of those stupid, silly-ass movies. I love
- 28:04Speaker 4: silly shit. But actually watching it, I'm like, you know what?
- 28:07Speaker 4: That was actually really good because it's one of those
- 28:09Speaker 4: you don't really know. What exactly is this thing? Aside
- 28:14Speaker 4: from being something from another dimension. What is this motivation?
- 28:19Speaker 4: Why is it doing this? Why did it decide these kids?
- 28:22Speaker 4: Why is it coming back now after all these years?
- 28:26Speaker 6: Kind of getting an It Follows vibe. I know I
- 28:28Speaker 6: referenced that movie a lot, but I found a lot
- 28:30Speaker 6: of what was going on in that movie kind of
- 28:32Speaker 6: original and kind of disturbing.
- 28:34Speaker 4: I'm still disappointed in that movie.
- 28:36Speaker 6: I think it does what it's trying to do so well.
- 28:39Speaker 6: Like I think I went in to do something else.
- 28:41Speaker 6: Like I expected, I think I, again, I kind of
- 28:45Speaker 6: heard different things that I thought maybe it was going
- 28:46Speaker 6: to be a different kind of movie. But like once
- 28:48Speaker 6: I settled into what it was, I'm like, no, I
- 28:51Speaker 6: like what they're doing here.
- 28:52Speaker 4: But it just, it's, it follows seem like it tried
- 28:55Speaker 4: too hard. Like it's like that fat kid in high
- 28:57Speaker 4: school that wants so hard to be your friend that
- 28:59Speaker 4: he likes everything that you like. It's like, this movie
- 29:01Speaker 4: knows the things that I want to see in a movie.
- 29:03Speaker 4: It knows the things that I'm like, that I look for.
- 29:06Speaker 4: And it's like, it's wanting to be those things, but
- 29:08Speaker 4: it's like kind of forcing it a little bit to
- 29:10Speaker 4: the point where you're like, all right, now you're just annoying.
- 29:13Speaker 4: Stop back up.
- 29:15Speaker 13: Stop.
- 29:15Speaker 4: You know, it's, it's like, it's trying so hard. Like, Oh,
- 29:19Speaker 4: you like this? I like this. Oh, you, you know,
- 29:21Speaker 4: and it's just, uh, Maybe that's just me. I need
- 29:25Speaker 4: to go back and watch it again, I guess. Give
- 29:26Speaker 4: it another chance or two. But it just seems like,
- 29:29Speaker 4: like I said, that kid in school who likes everything
- 29:31Speaker 4: that you like just because you like it. You know?
- 29:33Speaker 6: That's how you win friends. What are you talking about?
- 29:36Speaker 4: Apparently.
- 29:36Speaker 9: Okay.
- 29:39Speaker 6: This movie was different you didn't get that vibe off.
- 29:43Speaker 4: Of the no because i got not really they they
- 29:46Speaker 4: there's no ants damn it i want some ants it
- 29:49Speaker 4: just it didn't feel that way to me because like
- 29:51Speaker 4: i said it's it it felt more like hey i'm
- 29:54Speaker 4: doing my own thing you know I'm not going to
- 29:56Speaker 4: show you the monster exactly. I'm not going to tell
- 29:58Speaker 4: you what the fuck's going on, really. I'm not even
- 30:01Speaker 4: going to tell you for sure who's crazy in there.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Because I was like, there's an alternate ending to the movie.
- 30:07Speaker 4: I'm going to spoil the hell out of it.
- 30:11Speaker 6: Someday I might want to watch it.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Never mind. You didn't want to watch it when I
- 30:15Speaker 4: wanted to do it for the podcast a month ago.
- 30:17Speaker 6: We couldn't watch four of them at the same time.
- 30:19Speaker 6: You threw out four movies. We're lucky to get through
- 30:22Speaker 6: one for an episode.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Okay, I won't spoil it.
- 30:25Speaker 6: Maybe somewhere down the line we can come back to it.
- 30:28Speaker 4: I've already told everybody the whole thing now.
- 30:32Speaker 6: Well, this is your call. By then you will have forgot.
- 30:38Speaker 6: And if Jay watched it, he already forgot.
- 30:40Speaker 2: So we're fine.
- 30:41Speaker 4: I don't think he was in the room. There might
- 30:43Speaker 4: have been too much yelling. He's so fucking weird.
- 30:47Speaker 6: I mean, I can't argue that. But he is with you,
- 30:49Speaker 6: so it balances.
- 30:51Speaker 4: No, but he likes some yelling. I think I've discussed
- 30:53Speaker 4: this before. I think I'm pretty sure I've discussed it
- 30:54Speaker 4: on the podcast.
- 30:55Speaker 6: Yeah, his weird yelling military shows.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Yeah, he loves that shit. He loves people fighting, like
- 31:00Speaker 4: real fights. You watch video of people fighting and yelling
- 31:02Speaker 4: in a parking lot. But I watch something that has
- 31:04Speaker 4: a horror movie yelling. It's too fucking much yelling. I'm like, dude, what?
- 31:09Speaker 4: I just had to listen to this fucking shit over
- 31:11Speaker 4: here about people fighting in a parking lot. And whatever.
- 31:15Speaker 4: But yelling in a horror movie where you're supposed to
- 31:18Speaker 4: be yelling.
- 31:19Speaker 5: Whatever.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Anyway, so yeah. I would actually recommend the day. Don't
- 31:23Speaker 4: expect a great movie. It's not like fantastic. I enjoyed
- 31:28Speaker 4: it greatly. Ethan Embry. All the way.
- 31:33Speaker 6: He's very special.
- 31:34Speaker 13: He is.
- 31:35Speaker 4: I adore him. Is this a fucking confederate soldier walking
- 31:38Speaker 4: towards us? Alright.
- 31:41Speaker 6: I feel like we should tear him down and move
- 31:45Speaker 6: him somewhere else.
- 31:47Speaker 4: I'm serious.
- 31:48Speaker 6: Maybe he's a ghost. We are actually pretty close to
- 31:52Speaker 6: a cemetery, so maybe he's the ghost that wandered over
- 31:55Speaker 6: from the cemetery.
- 31:57Speaker 4: He's some hipster douchebag. He went and got his fucking
- 32:01Speaker 4: Confederate soldier. It's not even a Confederate soldier. It's like
- 32:04Speaker 4: a Confederate officer jacket. It's one of those long, like,
- 32:07Speaker 4: almost not quite to your feet. I'd say mid-calf.
- 32:11Speaker 6: Yeah, it's below the knee, definitely. Are you going to
- 32:15Speaker 6: salute at him is the question.
- 32:17Speaker 4: Oh, look at his hair. Jesus fucking Christ. Frosted tips.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Is that frosted tips?
- 32:21Speaker 6: No, but it's very prim and proper.
- 32:24Speaker 4: I tried to not look directly at him so he
- 32:25Speaker 4: wouldn't know that I'm... Oh, there's a fly.
- 32:27Speaker 6: Sort of. He's got kind of like almost like an
- 32:29Speaker 6: orchestrated spit curl going. Like, you're not Superman, dude. You
- 32:33Speaker 6: can't pull that off unless you're Superman, basically. And even
- 32:36Speaker 6: Superman kind of pisses me off most of the time.
- 32:38Speaker 4: Oh, and it has buttons on the back like where
- 32:39Speaker 4: it splits in the back. There's buttons all down there.
- 32:42Speaker 4: But he had them unbuttoned because he's cool.
- 32:44Speaker 8: People.
- 32:45Speaker 4: Dude.
- 32:45Speaker 6: This is why we don't interact with most people.
- 32:47Speaker 4: One of those, like, was it double-vested? No, it's not double-vested. Where, like,
- 32:50Speaker 4: there's buttons all up on both sides. Oh, my God.
- 32:54Speaker 4: That guy was a goddamn dickhead.
- 33:08Speaker 15: And tell me about the coffee beans.
- 33:10Speaker 4: I beg a rabbit can.
- 33:10Speaker 13: Cut a bee and I'm at Ling Ling Tong.
- 33:12Speaker 6: You got anything gluten-free? I'm no celiac, but it disagrees
- 33:15Speaker 6: with me. Mmm, and I don't like toxins either.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Should I cleanse my liver with a ginger tea?
- 33:19Speaker 6: I think we'll order the tap water, the Wi-Fi password,
- 33:22Speaker 6: and hang for a bit.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Hey, bro, what's a track that's playing?
- 33:25Speaker 5: This ain't no hipster shit.
- 33:29Speaker 6: Have you got anything gluten-free?
- 33:30Speaker 13: Sorry about that.
- 33:31Speaker 4: Don't you know what gluten....
- 33:43Speaker 6: Did I tell you that I'm gluten free?
- 33:48Speaker 7: Sorry, father.
- 33:51Speaker 14: What about a ginger tea?
- 33:56Speaker 4: Good evening.
- 33:57Speaker 5: It's intermission time. Our service is friendly and quick. You'll
- 34:01Speaker 5: find hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, your favorite candies, hot and

- 34:16Speaker 5: you'll come to see us often. It's great to get
- 34:19Speaker 5: out to the movies.
- 34:26Speaker 10: I tell you, gentlemen, science has agreed that unless something
- 34:29Speaker 10: is done and done quickly, man as the dominant species
- 34:33Speaker 10: of life on Earth will be extinct within a year.
- 34:41Speaker 9: Yes, cities, nations, even civilization itself, threatened with annihilation because
- 34:48Speaker 9: in one moment of history-making violence, nature, mad, rampant, wrought
- 34:53Speaker 9: its most awesome creation. For born in that swirling inferno
- 34:56Speaker 9: of radioactive dust were things so horrible, so terrifying, so hideous,
- 35:03Speaker 9: there is no word to describe them.
- 35:07Speaker 5: They may be witnesses to a biblical prophecy come true.
- 35:11Speaker 9: And there shall be destruction and darkness come upon creation.
- 35:15Speaker 5: And the beasts shall reign over the earth.
- 35:18Speaker 16: Yes, the earth.
- 35:19Speaker 9: The skies above and the seas below. Infested by swarms
- 35:23Speaker 9: of nightmare creatures. Crueler, deadlier than the armored giants of
- 35:27Speaker 9: prehistoric eras. Here is a wild headlong flight into terror.
- 35:31Speaker 9: As the desert erupts with a grim battle for survival.
- 35:34Speaker 9: Here is a fear-frenzied moment of suspense as mankind totters
- 35:39Speaker 9: before a thing that multiplies faster than it can be killed.
- 35:42Speaker 9: Here is a desperate plunge into the black depths of
- 35:45Speaker 9: the earth where human courage challenges the brute force, the
- 35:49Speaker 9: slashing jaws, the poison fangs that guard the subterranean nest
- 35:53Speaker 9: where the beast spawns its terrible progeny.
- 36:01Speaker 13: Woke up this morning.
- 36:03Speaker 13: Hey Jacqueline.
- 36:04Speaker 7: Hi.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Guess what?
- 36:06Speaker 11: What?
- 36:06Speaker 14: We're broke.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Yeah, we definitely, I'm pulling up, turning my pockets out
- 36:37Speaker 2: right now.
- 36:38Speaker 14: Nothing.
- 36:39Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying. I do that every week. And yet,
- 36:41Speaker 6: I'm trying to produce this show for you guys listening
- 36:44Speaker 6: right now.
- 36:45Speaker 4: Yeah. Freeloaders.
- 36:47Speaker 6: I'm just saying, you know, if you want to keep
- 36:50Speaker 6: this thing rolling, it'd be kind of awesome if you'd
- 36:53Speaker 6: go to our Patreon page and like kick in like, seriously,
- 36:56Speaker 6: like two bucks.
- 36:57Speaker 4: I mean, you're going to do like Netflix for like $ 9. 99
- 36:59Speaker 4: and you get.
- 37:02Speaker 6: And you're probably not going to watch it all month
- 37:03Speaker 6: like I do.
- 37:04Speaker 5: Yeah, you need our commentary to figure out what to
- 37:07Speaker 5: watch on Netflix.
- 37:09Speaker 13: I think so.
- 37:09Speaker 6: It's like a companion piece to all your Amazons and
- 37:13Speaker 6: Netflixes and all of these things. So just think how
- 37:17Speaker 6: much you don't make use of your other streaming services.
- 37:20Speaker 6: But every week we're loading up a whole new episode
- 37:23Speaker 6: of us going in-depth, more than you may want, about
- 37:26Speaker 6: whatever movie we've decided or bringing in some awesome guests.
- 37:29Speaker 6: So I'm just saying... Two bucks. It's not so bad.
- 37:33Speaker 4: Two dollars. You won't even notice it. And you'll look
- 37:35Speaker 4: at your bank statement and be like, two dollars. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 37:38Speaker 4: I'm supporting an artist.
- 37:39Speaker 6: That I like. That's all I ask for. Trying to
- 37:44Speaker 6: keep this thing rolling. And all we need is your assistance.
- 37:47Speaker 6: So go to patreon.com slash movie meltdown. Or if you
- 37:51Speaker 6: can't remember all that, go to movie meltdown.com. The link
- 37:53Speaker 6: is right there at the top of the homepage.
- 37:55Speaker 4: That's all you need to do. I contribute more than
- 37:58Speaker 4: two dollars a month.
- 37:59Speaker 6: Because you're awesome like that. Why don't you be awesome
- 38:02Speaker 6: like Jacqueline? I'm just saying.
- 38:03Speaker 4: I mean, really, though.
- 38:05Speaker 6: I mean, you can't be that awesome, obviously. But you
- 38:08Speaker 6: can get closer. You can climb the ladder a little bit.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Just saying.
- 38:13Speaker 6: Patreon, go support us.
- 38:15Speaker 16: All I do, all day long, fall down on my
- 38:21Speaker 16: knees and pray she come.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Back home for me.
- 38:28Speaker 5: Why is there a bad luck on me?
- 38:34Speaker 16: Hello, this is Peter Mayhew. Are you listening to Movie
- 38:47Speaker 16: Mountain Time?
- 38:49Speaker 6: Movie Mountain Time.
- 38:57Speaker 5: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 38:58Speaker 4: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 38:59Speaker 5: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies. And now,
- 39:04Speaker 5: on with the show.
- 39:11Speaker 11: Many dreams ago, you and I were all aglow With love,
- 39:16Speaker 11: t'was so intended Many dreams ago, something dimmed the flame
- 39:23Speaker 11: And so it ended And that since then I've prayed
- 39:30Speaker 11: for your return.
- 39:31Speaker 4: My love.
- 39:33Speaker 11: How could I begin teaching my heart to keep.
- 39:40Speaker 6: From thinking of.
- 39:43Speaker 11: What might have been many dreams ago long before I
- 39:50Speaker 11: came to know the world.
- 39:52Speaker 6: I also rewatched Rear Windows. And I saw it in
- 39:55Speaker 6: the theater. Based on last week's special guest, I went
- 40:00Speaker 6: to actually see their presentation of the new now remastered
- 40:04Speaker 6: cleaned up version. And he did a nice little talk afterwards.
- 40:09Speaker 6: And yeah, I love that movie so much.
- 40:11Speaker 4: It's a great movie.
- 40:12Speaker 6: As much as I love all Hitchcock, like that one,
- 40:15Speaker 6: like there's just something so homey about that little neighborhood
- 40:19Speaker 6: that like, I'm midway in and I'm like, I just
- 40:22Speaker 6: kind of love being here. Like I just, this weird
- 40:26Speaker 6: little grouping of backyards. Like I just, it's all just
- 40:32Speaker 6: kind of so awesome. And I can't decide if I
- 40:35Speaker 6: would like actually be driven crazy if I lived there
- 40:38Speaker 6: or if I would just totally embrace it and get
- 40:40Speaker 6: into it kind of like he does. But he's still seeing,
- 40:43Speaker 6: that's the other thing I forgot though. It'd been a
- 40:45Speaker 6: while since I'd seen that one. And Jeff's a little
- 40:49Speaker 6: pissy at the beginning. He's kind of a jerk.
- 40:52Speaker 4: It's been a long time since I've seen it.
- 40:54Speaker 6: And by the way, his girlfriend is arguably, if not certainly,
- 40:59Speaker 6: one of the most gorgeous women on the planet.
- 41:01Speaker 4: Yes, she is.
- 41:02Speaker 6: Good Lord, Grace Kelly is just... She's beautiful. She's just phenomenal. Like,
- 41:08Speaker 6: I just thought in awe the entire time going, people...
- 41:11Speaker 6: people should not be this attractive they just don't know
- 41:14Speaker 6: it's just no it's just you're not no people are
- 41:16Speaker 6: not supposed to be that attractive what are you doing stop.
- 41:19Speaker 4: Especially people today you don't get people that that just
- 41:21Speaker 4: you get you can get chicks that are hot you
- 41:23Speaker 4: can get chicks that are pretty but you don't get
- 41:25Speaker 4: chicks that are like fucking beautiful.
- 41:27Speaker 6: She's perfect it's kind of annoying how perfect.
- 41:30Speaker 4: She is i mean there's a whole bunch of them
- 41:31Speaker 4: i mean you get like Grace Kelly, Hedy Lamarr. Who
- 41:36Speaker 4: married fucking Bogart? I just forgot her name. Lauren Bacall.
- 41:42Speaker 4: Just all of them. There's a beautiful and a classiness
- 41:46Speaker 4: that now it's just like, yeah, you don't get that anymore.
- 41:49Speaker 5: What?
- 41:50Speaker 6: Girls today aren't classy? Come on.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, Megan Fox.
- 41:53Speaker 6: Don't you watch the Kardashians?
- 41:54Speaker 4: Yeah, okay. Classy. But again, today it's not about being beautiful.
- 41:58Speaker 4: It's about being what's hot, what can sell.
- 42:00Speaker 6: What gets people's attention, basically, is the only thing. Because
- 42:03Speaker 6: you're fighting with a billion people on the internet that
- 42:07Speaker 6: are also trying to get everyone's attention. Class isn't really
- 42:11Speaker 6: the kind of thing that draws people in. You don't
- 42:12Speaker 6: get hits with class.
- 42:14Speaker 4: Yeah, apparently not.
- 42:15Speaker 6: But yeah, I love Rainer Rundell so much. It's so
- 42:20Speaker 6: well made, obviously. But again, I think there's something different
- 42:23Speaker 6: about that one. You don't... You don't feel that at
- 42:27Speaker 6: home in all of Hitchcock's movies. And, like, this one, like,
- 42:31Speaker 6: almost immediately. Like, we get through that little opening shot almost. And, like,
- 42:36Speaker 6: it's just so, like, in and of itself. It is
- 42:40Speaker 6: completely its own little world. And within a few minutes,
- 42:43Speaker 6: you've got it down. Like, you know everything about the world. And, like, it's...
- 42:47Speaker 6: That part's amazing. But, yeah, at the beginning... he's eventually
- 42:51Speaker 6: they get kind of sidetracked and you don't really see
- 42:53Speaker 6: them being couple D because they're being like Scooby gang.
- 42:55Speaker 6: They're all trying to figure out a mystery and they're sidetracked.
- 42:58Speaker 6: But like that first night that she comes over, he's
- 43:01Speaker 6: just kind of a jerk to her the whole time.
- 43:03Speaker 6: And I'm like, Jimmy Stewart being a jerk. That's hard.
- 43:07Speaker 6: He does it a few times.
- 43:08Speaker 4: But that was the guy thing back then.
- 43:09Speaker 6: It definitely is. She is just laying out there any
- 43:14Speaker 6: way that they can be together. She's about ready to
- 43:16Speaker 6: give up her life and go kicking around the world
- 43:18Speaker 6: with this guy who has absolutely no money and just
- 43:21Speaker 6: wants to go hang out and take pictures and stuff.
- 43:23Speaker 6: And that's all he wants to do. He doesn't have
- 43:25Speaker 6: any cash. And she's obviously super rich and is willing
- 43:28Speaker 6: to not worry about that.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Just.
- 43:31Speaker 6: stop her job and stop worrying about everything and just
- 43:34Speaker 6: go hang out with him. And he's still being a jerk.
- 43:36Speaker 6: He's still like, no, you can't handle not having a
- 43:39Speaker 6: fancy wardrobe and you can't have a, you know, you
- 43:42Speaker 6: won't be staying in a hotel and you won't have
- 43:43Speaker 6: fancy meals. He's just being a dick to her. I'm just, yeah,
- 43:48Speaker 6: I kind of forgot about that. I'm so used to
- 43:50Speaker 6: just nice Jimmy Stewart all the time. I know he,
- 43:52Speaker 6: he goes down a pretty weird road in Vertigo too,
- 43:55Speaker 6: but most of the time he's still like, you know, upright,
- 43:58Speaker 6: you know, Jimmy Stewart.
- 43:59Speaker 4: Have you seen Kim Novak lately? Please tell me you've
- 44:02Speaker 4: seen Kim Novak.
- 44:03Speaker 6: Like when she was on the Oscars.
- 44:05Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 44:06Speaker 6: She's, yeah, it's not what you would expect, I guess,
- 44:11Speaker 6: is the way to put it. I didn't expect it.
- 44:13Speaker 6: Let's put it that way. Caught me off guard. I
- 44:16Speaker 6: was not prepared for that.
- 44:17Speaker 4: Whoa.
- 44:18Speaker 6: Anyway.
- 44:18Speaker 4: Whoa, there came Novak.
- 44:20Speaker 6: Stick him with grace. Stick him with grace.
- 44:24Speaker 4: Even to this day, no matter where she is.
- 44:25Speaker 6: Yep, where she is now, I bet she looks better. Anyway,
- 44:28Speaker 6: never mind. Anyway, yeah, Rear Window. Watch it.
- 44:32Speaker 4: Own it.
- 44:33Speaker 2: It's awesome.
- 44:36Speaker 6: Much like this week's guest.
- 44:38Speaker 4: Oh my gosh. She was the cutest thing ever.
- 44:40Speaker 6: She's so awesome.
- 44:41Speaker 4: She was so adorable.
- 44:43Speaker 6: She's super cool. And I kind of knew going in.
- 44:46Speaker 6: I got a vibe. I try to find the right
- 44:50Speaker 6: people for us to hang out and talk to. I
- 44:52Speaker 6: think we have a pretty good run of guests. And
- 44:54Speaker 6: we usually get pretty cool people. And I was like,
- 44:57Speaker 6: I think we're going to be good with this one.
- 44:59Speaker 4: And yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 6: As you'll hear. She's awesome.
- 45:02Speaker 4: And a little bit older than I thought she was.
- 45:04Speaker 4: I thought she was like 12.
- 45:05Speaker 6: She's still kind of, yeah, she can definitely play under
- 45:08Speaker 6: her age. She definitely still looks really young. But yeah,
- 45:13Speaker 6: in doing the research, like she's done a ton of,
- 45:16Speaker 6: you know, Still hasn't been working for years, but has
- 45:19Speaker 6: knocked out a whole bunch of short films and a
- 45:21Speaker 6: whole bunch of other stuff beforehand that I did not
- 45:23Speaker 6: know she was involved in before.
- 45:24Speaker 4: Not that she's old by any means.
- 45:25Speaker 6: Oh, no, not at all. But, yeah, she still looks really,
- 45:27Speaker 6: really young.
- 45:28Speaker 4: When she mentioned being at a pub, I'm like, are
- 45:29Speaker 4: you old enough to drink?
- 45:30Speaker 6: Well, this is also outside of America, so literally kind
- 45:33Speaker 6: of anybody can go to a pub. And they serve
- 45:36Speaker 6: most of them, so, yeah, it's a different world. But, yeah,
- 45:39Speaker 6: so this week's guest is Ingvild Dela. I'm attempting that.
- 45:45Speaker 6: I've heard her say it many times. She says it
- 45:48Speaker 6: really fast, so I apologize if, in fact, I'm butchering
- 45:52Speaker 6: it slightly.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Slightly?
- 45:55Speaker 6: You say it.
- 45:56Speaker 4: No.
- 46:00Speaker 6: Regardless, she's awesome, and I don't have to introduce her
- 46:03Speaker 6: to you because she's going to tell you all about
- 46:05Speaker 6: it right now. So let's go sit down and talk
- 46:07Speaker 6: with her right now. I usually just kind of start
- 46:30Speaker 6: at the beginning and usually I will ask people like,
- 46:33Speaker 6: you know, where are you born and how did you
- 46:35Speaker 6: get into this? I'm assuming your story is going to
- 46:37Speaker 6: be a little different than most people because It's a
- 46:40Speaker 6: lot of Ohio's and California's. And so there's this problem.
- 46:43Speaker 17: There's none of that in this story.
- 46:45Speaker 4: No.
- 46:46Speaker 6: So I guess give them the rundown of where you
- 46:48Speaker 6: came from and how you got here. Sure.
- 46:51Speaker 12: So I'm from Norway and I lived there. Well, I've
- 46:55Speaker 12: lived there most of my life, but I've been abroad
- 46:57Speaker 12: for the last six years, I think. One year in
- 47:01Speaker 12: France and then five years in the UK where I
- 47:04Speaker 12: still live. outside London, and yeah, that's my geographical... That's
- 47:12Speaker 12: the start.
- 47:14Speaker 6: And again, I like to go early on. Were you
- 47:16Speaker 6: immediately kind of drawn to the arts, or did you
- 47:19Speaker 6: fall right into that from the get-go, or is it
- 47:21Speaker 6: something that came later?
- 47:23Speaker 17: I've always loved the arts.
- 47:25Speaker 12: My dad, he's a very creative person. He does everything
- 47:29Speaker 12: except dancing. So now he's writing a Viking sci-fi trilogy.
- 47:36Speaker 12: And before that he did a lot of like poems
- 47:38Speaker 12: and he wrote music and we used to sing together
- 47:41Speaker 12: my dad and I Did an album years ago like
- 47:44Speaker 12: folk Norwegian folk music so he was very encouraging and
- 47:48Speaker 12: I did a lot of like singing and drawing as
- 47:51Speaker 12: a kid and Dancing and then later on I I
- 47:54Speaker 12: did a bit of stage acting but.
- 47:56Speaker 17: Just for fun.
- 47:57Speaker 12: I never thought I would Do this as a profession
- 48:01Speaker 12: and never stare towards it towards it either i i
- 48:05Speaker 12: studied philosophy and history at uni and then one day
- 48:09Speaker 12: at a pub my friend who was doing his first
- 48:11Speaker 12: feature at the time he said he needed someone foreign
- 48:14Speaker 12: to play the girlfriend of the lead and he said
- 48:17Speaker 12: do you want to be in it uh and i
- 48:19Speaker 12: was like yeah sure let's let's give it a go.
- 48:21Speaker 6: And norwegian do you know yeah well let me see
- 48:24Speaker 6: what i can do.
- 48:26Speaker 12: So it was just like one of those serendipitous moments
- 48:31Speaker 12: that I got asked and I got an introduction into
- 48:34Speaker 12: being on a film set.
- 48:35Speaker 17: And I just realized I really liked it.
- 48:39Speaker 12: And then I finished my studies and my job with
- 48:43Speaker 12: Save the Children at the time. And just, yeah, that's
- 48:46Speaker 12: probably like four, four and a half years ago.
- 48:48Speaker 6: So were you a little more drawn to the film
- 48:50Speaker 6: set version instead of stage?
- 48:53Speaker 12: Yeah, I think I took a more of a sort
- 48:55Speaker 12: of immediate liking to being on a film set just
- 48:57Speaker 12: because I love all the aspects, like all the technical
- 49:02Speaker 12: aspects and all these different skill sets that come together
- 49:05Speaker 12: to make a film.
- 49:06Speaker 17: It's kind of a.
- 49:10Speaker 12: Magic trick every time it happens, every time it works,
- 49:13Speaker 12: because it's it's it's hard like all like one vision
- 49:17Speaker 12: and then all these different um people um coming together
- 49:21Speaker 12: it's it's kind of beautiful.
- 49:22Speaker 6: More than anything when it works like the fact that
- 49:25Speaker 6: you even get anything made is like amazing but then
- 49:28Speaker 6: when you somehow actually get it to kind of gel
- 49:30Speaker 6: into this amazing art like that's that's astounding sometimes it
- 49:35Speaker 6: is it is So I guess as you got into that,
- 49:38Speaker 6: just like, again, from the performance angle, you get more
- 49:41Speaker 6: and more into acting. What do you think you take
- 49:44Speaker 6: from it? I guess, again, as you got to that point,
- 49:47Speaker 6: you could have... I don't know. Where do you take philosophy, actually? Anyway,
- 49:51Speaker 6: what career do you go with it? But as you're
- 49:53Speaker 6: drawn more towards acting, it's like, what is it that
- 49:55Speaker 6: you kind of take from that that makes you want
- 49:57Speaker 6: to keep doing it?
- 49:59Speaker 17: I think.
- 50:01Speaker 12: It was several things that I realized I really liked
- 50:03Speaker 12: about it. One thing is that you get to try
- 50:06Speaker 12: out the what-if scenarios. What if I was born like this?
- 50:10Speaker 12: Or if I was really this person walking in her
- 50:14Speaker 12: shoes every day, what would that feel like? So it's
- 50:16Speaker 12: sort of an exercise in empathy and imagination and world-building,
- 50:23Speaker 12: which is, I guess, what... directors like and writers like
- 50:27Speaker 12: and actors like as well.
- 50:28Speaker 14: Um and i.
- 50:32Speaker 12: Don't know it's also like a way of getting more
- 50:34Speaker 12: out of life like it gives you it buys you
- 50:37Speaker 12: more time in a way because you can you can
- 50:39Speaker 12: live several lives at least you can dip your toes
- 50:42Speaker 12: in it's it's so it's kind of like a simulation
- 50:45Speaker 12: of living another person's life I.
- 50:48Speaker 6: Think I've heard people look at it again it's the
- 50:50Speaker 6: philosophy angle it's a much broader.
- 50:52Speaker 12: Way to kind of example this yeah I mean I
- 50:54Speaker 12: think maybe that's why that I have more of a
- 50:57Speaker 12: philosophical approach to acting for me it's a way of
- 51:01Speaker 12: learning more about being human human predicament and also realizing
- 51:05Speaker 12: that it's all like it's sort of a mini life
- 51:08Speaker 12: just like my life is like yeah just sort of
- 51:13Speaker 12: the layers of reality and.
- 51:16Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:17Speaker 17: And I enjoy that.
- 51:18Speaker 12: And also just working with people on set, I really
- 51:21Speaker 12: enjoy as well and try to learn about what they're
- 51:24Speaker 12: doing and how they do their job and just the
- 51:27Speaker 12: collaborative aspect.
- 51:28Speaker 17: I really enjoy.
- 51:29Speaker 6: It's a lot of moving parts.
- 51:30Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 51:31Speaker 6: Amazing, especially the bigger and bigger the projects get.
- 51:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:35Speaker 6: At that point, did you start, because then you've done
- 51:38Speaker 6: a lot of short films. As you got into it,
- 51:40Speaker 6: how did you find your way to the different projects?
- 51:43Speaker 6: And then I guess as you got to bigger and
- 51:44Speaker 6: bigger projects, what kind of got you to that level?
- 51:48Speaker 17: Well, I was just.
- 51:49Speaker 12: Trying to be very proactive and not wait for anything
- 51:53Speaker 12: to fall in my lap. And also not taking it
- 51:58Speaker 12: too personally. The sooner an actor learns that, it's all
- 52:01Speaker 12: about the process and getting used to rejection the better.
- 52:04Speaker 12: Cause it's, it's a very, uh, like you never know
- 52:09Speaker 12: what's going to happen there. There's no promises and you
- 52:11Speaker 12: can put in so much effort to, to study for
- 52:13Speaker 12: a role and then you don't get it at the end,
- 52:15Speaker 12: but it's not your fault. And as soon as you
- 52:17Speaker 12: can just let go and be stoic about it, then
- 52:20Speaker 12: the better. So, um, yeah, I just tried being as
- 52:24Speaker 12: proactive as I could. Um, I signed up to some, like,
- 52:27Speaker 12: casting call websites. And then later on I got an agent,
- 52:31Speaker 12: and I have two agents, one in Berlin and one
- 52:33Speaker 12: in London. So they send me work as well. But
- 52:35Speaker 12: usually it's just through meeting people, networking, going to film festivals. Just, yeah,
- 52:42Speaker 12: see what's out there and try and connect with people.
- 52:45Speaker 6: It's become a huge part of it now, now that
- 52:46Speaker 6: the whole system's kind of rearranged in the last 25
- 52:50Speaker 6: years or so. It's like everything's gone so independent that, like,
- 52:53Speaker 6: there is no old studio system.
- 52:54Speaker 2: They're still there.
- 52:55Speaker 13: No, no.
- 52:56Speaker 6: The system doesn't work like it used to.
- 52:58Speaker 12: No, and that's good because at least you have more
- 53:00Speaker 12: of a chance to meet with your kind of people
- 53:03Speaker 12: and see what's out there. And like, you could just
- 53:05Speaker 12: go on Vimeo and look at some short films. And
- 53:08Speaker 12: if you really like a short film, you can get
- 53:09Speaker 12: in touch with a guy or girl and like, hey.
- 53:11Speaker 17: Do you want to work together?
- 53:12Speaker 4: Put me in something. Yeah.
- 53:14Speaker 17: And that's wonderful.
- 53:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:17Speaker 6: Well, then as you get to the bigger projects, like
- 53:19Speaker 6: how do you end up, I guess, getting into, I mean,
- 53:22Speaker 6: you're in Age of Ultron. So how did you, find
- 53:25Speaker 6: your way to that.
- 53:26Speaker 12: Project that's a big leap yeah I know I just
- 53:29Speaker 12: I had just been acting for like four or five
- 53:31Speaker 12: months and they got in touch with me actually because
- 53:34Speaker 12: they were looking for someone who could do a genuine
- 53:37Speaker 12: Norwegian accent and apparently there aren't that many Norwegians in
- 53:40Speaker 12: London there are quite a few Swedes and Danes there
- 53:42Speaker 12: but not too many Norwegians so yeah I was very
- 53:47Speaker 12: hesitant and like didn't understand like what is this and
- 53:50Speaker 12: they couldn't tell me anything about the film like being
- 53:53Speaker 12: Marvel they were super secretive To the point where I
- 53:56Speaker 12: was like asking myself, is this a porn film?
- 53:58Speaker 17: Like, why can't they give me any details?
- 54:01Speaker 2: This guy looks kind of shit. Oh, no, wait, that's
- 54:02Speaker 2: Robert Downey Jr. He always looks like.
- 54:06Speaker 12: But luckily, I realized that it was legit. I Googled
- 54:10Speaker 12: the casting director and I thought, okay, this has got
- 54:12Speaker 12: to be something big. So I went in, still didn't
- 54:14Speaker 12: know what I was auditioning for. I still didn't know
- 54:16Speaker 12: for sure until I was actually in the car on
- 54:19Speaker 12: my way to Shepperton Studios. Then the driver told me
- 54:23Speaker 12: sort of like, oh, yeah. And I just pretended, yeah,
- 54:25Speaker 12: I knew that. It was Age of Ultron, of course.
- 54:28Speaker 4: I've watched all of these.
- 54:30Speaker 6: I have. I wonder how Captain America goes over in
- 54:34Speaker 6: other countries.
- 54:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:36Speaker 6: It's so specific to here, the way that it started.
- 54:38Speaker 6: I never know how other countries take that series.
- 54:41Speaker 14: No.
- 54:42Speaker 12: Yeah, I haven't seen all of Captain America, I have
- 54:44Speaker 12: to admit. But I've seen the first one, and I
- 54:46Speaker 12: liked it. But I've seen most of the rest of
- 54:49Speaker 12: the Marvel films.
- 54:50Speaker 6: So, I mean, I guess that key scene there, I mean,
- 54:53Speaker 6: you are standing there talking to Robert Downey Jr. He
- 54:56Speaker 6: seems like he's constantly on. He's always Robert Downey Jr.
- 55:00Speaker 2: so.
- 55:01Speaker 6: Is that how you found him? Is he constantly... He's awesome.
- 55:05Speaker 17: He's so nice.
- 55:06Speaker 12: I was very nervous before I met him because, as
- 55:09Speaker 12: I told you, I hadn't acted for very long and
- 55:12Speaker 12: felt like an imposter on set.
- 55:14Speaker 17: Like, they're going to find out soon.
- 55:15Speaker 4: I'm not the real deal.
- 55:16Speaker 17: They're going to know. but then I waited for.
- 55:20Speaker 12: A while with his double on set and that sort
- 55:23Speaker 12: of eased you in yeah it kind of did I
- 55:25Speaker 12: knew it was the double but they looked so much
- 55:27Speaker 12: alike that was sort of a warm up and then
- 55:30Speaker 12: the real Robert Downey Jr. came on and then I
- 55:32Speaker 12: was kind of relaxed by then And he's so nice.
- 55:34Speaker 12: He really is genuinely nice. Um, laughed at my silly
- 55:37Speaker 12: jokes and yeah. Cause sometimes when I'm nervous, I try
- 55:39Speaker 12: to be funny, which is not a good strategy, but he's.
- 55:44Speaker 6: Been in it since birth. Yeah. And coming from his
- 55:46Speaker 6: family and like, he really has had such a weird
- 55:49Speaker 6: ride just to end up where he is.
- 55:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:52Speaker 17: No, he's cool. I like his work.
- 55:53Speaker 4: He's great.
- 55:54Speaker 6: He seems pretty awesome. Well, then I guess we have
- 55:57Speaker 6: to kind of address Star Wars. I mean, it was,
- 56:00Speaker 6: from what I know, kind of that same thing. You
- 56:01Speaker 6: didn't fully know what you were getting yourself into that
- 56:04Speaker 6: first phase.
- 56:05Speaker 4: Yes, right.
- 56:06Speaker 6: They just didn't. Again, it's still all Disney, so they
- 56:10Speaker 6: know how to play their cards, so they don't want
- 56:11Speaker 6: anything to get out there. So I guess how far
- 56:14Speaker 6: in was it before you realized what you were going
- 56:17Speaker 6: to end up playing?
- 56:19Speaker 12: I was two rounds in. There were two initial audition rounds,
- 56:23Speaker 12: and I didn't know what it was. I just knew
- 56:25Speaker 12: it was some kind of big studio film. And then
- 56:29Speaker 12: for the third round, they send me two scenes from
- 56:33Speaker 12: A New Hope, the monologue, the hologram monologue, and when
- 56:37Speaker 12: Leia meets Vader for the first time. And that's when
- 56:40Speaker 12: it hit me like a brick wall. Like, this is
- 56:44Speaker 12: your one shot. You got to do this right. Yeah,
- 56:48Speaker 12: so I had a weekend to prepare, and I just
- 56:50Speaker 12: went into warrior mode. monk warrior zen monk mode and
- 56:55Speaker 12: watched all the old Star Wars films that I've seen
- 56:57Speaker 12: a hundred times before but.
- 56:58Speaker 6: Just you know how big a fan were you before
- 57:00Speaker 6: that oh.
- 57:01Speaker 17: I've always loved Star Wars yeah thanks to my brother.
- 57:03Speaker 6: Who introduced me it's weird we are getting to a
- 57:06Speaker 6: point that there aren't I mean it's gone through so
- 57:08Speaker 6: many generations now there are kids that just did not
- 57:10Speaker 6: grow up with the original so I guess you could
- 57:13Speaker 6: kind of miss you'd hit a wrong window and just
- 57:15Speaker 6: be like I never really watched those yeah I guess
- 57:17Speaker 6: we're bringing in whole new generations now but so then
- 57:20Speaker 6: you will be It is kind of a cruel trick.
- 57:25Speaker 6: We're going to put you in the biggest movie in
- 57:26Speaker 6: the world, but we're going to take your face.
- 57:29Speaker 4: No, that's fine. We're going to secretly replace your face.
- 57:33Speaker 6: But I guess you knew.
- 57:34Speaker 17: I knew, yeah.
- 57:35Speaker 12: And I was just really intrigued to see how far
- 57:39Speaker 12: they could push the technology. So I was not upset
- 57:43Speaker 12: one minute by the fact that they were going to
- 57:46Speaker 12: take some of my face away.
- 57:47Speaker 17: It's, yeah. It's still just a huge honor.
- 57:49Speaker 6: And how long did the dot process take? I guess
- 57:53Speaker 6: getting it on and then the shooting. The dot process.
- 57:55Speaker 6: I'm also beginning to wonder if that's just going to
- 57:57Speaker 6: be a thing. So many people, like it's going to
- 57:59Speaker 6: be a fashion statement. Kids are going to be out
- 58:01Speaker 6: in the mall with dots on. It's just going to,
- 58:03Speaker 6: I'm thinking.
- 58:04Speaker 17: I'm just mo-capping it today.
- 58:05Speaker 12: It might catch on, you know.
- 58:09Speaker 17: No, it took about a week, I think.
- 58:11Speaker 12: So they flew me over to San Francisco to the
- 58:14Speaker 12: Lucasfilm HQ and also L.A.
- 58:18Speaker 17: And, uh, yeah, did a lot of, uh.
- 58:21Speaker 12: Strange facial expressions while they were firing all these like
- 58:25Speaker 12: very bright lights straight into my eyes. So it was
- 58:28Speaker 12: very hard to, to do it. Uh, but it was,
- 58:30Speaker 12: it was very interesting, just the whole process. Um, yeah,
- 58:34Speaker 12: it was, it was great. And everyone there was just
- 58:36Speaker 12: so sweet and wonderful to work with. It's amazing what
- 58:38Speaker 12: they can do. I mean, I was there a month
- 58:41Speaker 12: ago and said hello to a lot of people who
- 58:42Speaker 12: worked on, on, uh, Tarkin and Leah and, and I
- 58:46Speaker 12: met like a bunch of people in the hallway. Lucasfilm,
- 58:48Speaker 12: and they were just staring at me like, do I
- 58:50Speaker 12: know them?
- 58:51Speaker 17: Like, should I say hello?
- 58:52Speaker 12: And then they came over and said, oh, we're the
- 58:55Speaker 12: ones who worked on your face for six months.
- 58:59Speaker 6: I kind of know you, but not real.
- 59:01Speaker 4: I feel like I do after six months. yeah i guess.
- 59:05Speaker 12: That would be yeah no they did all the hard
- 59:07Speaker 12: work so yeah they they're the ones who should.
- 59:09Speaker 6: Be here i mean my real question is again it's
- 59:12Speaker 6: disney they know how to play their hand so like
- 59:15Speaker 6: is it and i don't know how much you can
- 59:16Speaker 6: talk about it did they plan ahead is it like
- 59:19Speaker 6: already signed on that if they decide to do more
- 59:21Speaker 6: with this character like that that you're the go-to Or
- 59:26Speaker 6: they kind of left it open-ended.
- 59:27Speaker 12: I think they left it kind of open-ended, yeah. And
- 59:31Speaker 12: I don't know, it might take a while before a
- 59:34Speaker 12: young Princess Leia appears on screen again with the sad
- 59:37Speaker 12: passing of Carrie Fisher. And also there's so many wonderful
- 59:42Speaker 12: other characters and timelines you could delve into.
- 59:44Speaker 17: So I don't know, but... Yeah.
- 59:46Speaker 6: They like, again, that new animated series that's all like
- 59:49Speaker 6: the young female characters from Star Wars is kind of awesome.
- 59:52Speaker 6: So again, I kind of like that they're, again, bringing
- 59:55Speaker 6: in new generations. They are no problem bringing in all
- 59:58Speaker 6: the little girls.
- 59:59Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: That's kind of awesome. So again, I think they need
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: to start working on like a young Leia entire feature film.
- 1:00:04Speaker 17: That would be awesome.
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: And obviously, you're the goat.
- 1:00:08Speaker 17: Well, I don't know. I wouldn't say no, even though
- 1:00:10Speaker 17: it would scare the shit out of me.
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: It's a lot of pressure.
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: It's a lot more investment at that point.
- 1:00:14Speaker 17: Big shoes to fill. Well, he could never replace her.
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely.
- 1:00:18Speaker 6: Yeah. Well, then I guess, what else have you got?
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: And I was kind of looking at Hippopotamus. That seems
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: a little darker.
- 1:00:26Speaker 13: Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: It's very dark.
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: A little darker turn.
- 1:00:29Speaker 17: Yeah, psychological thriller. But like Gone Girl or.
- 1:00:35Speaker 12: yeah this other film before i go to sleep with
- 1:00:37Speaker 12: nicole kidman it's kind of that kind of film.
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: It's a it's a i i said lately there's like
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: this weird sub genre of you're going to get kidnapped
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: specifically again for young women and it's like it is
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: like a new weird sub genre of horror that it
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: happens we now see stories in the news that it
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: kind of is a thing and it's it's like a
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: real world fear that i think now so many different
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: because there's four or five, it seems like, in these
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: last couple of years that have all kind of tapped in.
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: Like Room is exactly that.
- 1:01:04Speaker 14: True, true.
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: And like, there's, what was the other, Split is like that.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: Split, yeah.
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: There's so many that are kind of, it is its
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: own new sub-genre, I feel like.
- 1:01:14Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: But that, yeah, I think that's kind of what it
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: seems like, but I guess working on it, what was,
- 1:01:19Speaker 6: what was the process?
- 1:01:20Speaker 12: Well, it was very intense and I was quite involved with, like,
- 1:01:25Speaker 12: from the scripts as well. So, the, the, other main character,
- 1:01:30Speaker 12: myself and the director, we worked a lot on the
- 1:01:32Speaker 12: script too. Like he did the writing, but we would
- 1:01:34Speaker 12: meet up for rehearsals and then go through scenes and
- 1:01:36Speaker 12: then rewrite it or rework it, which was great.
- 1:01:39Speaker 17: I love those.
- 1:01:40Speaker 12: More close-knit collaborative projects where you just don't get handed
- 1:01:44Speaker 12: a script and okay, do your lines and goodbye. So
- 1:01:47Speaker 12: I learned a lot from the process of being part
- 1:01:50Speaker 12: of building my own character. But it was super tough
- 1:01:54Speaker 12: in terms of the, like really getting into the psychological
- 1:01:57Speaker 12: aspect of my character and And I remember I had
- 1:02:00Speaker 12: nightmares for like weeks after the shoot being on set
- 1:02:04Speaker 12: in this little room. And yeah, it was tough, but
- 1:02:07Speaker 12: I learned a lot and it was definitely worth it.
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: Are you drawn towards the darker? Again, there are actors
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: that you watch them just pick darker project.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: Are you drawn a little more towards that type of
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: character and that type of story?
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:02:22Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:02:24Speaker 12: I don't have any rules. Like for me, it's all
- 1:02:26Speaker 12: about if I like the script and if I believe
- 1:02:31Speaker 12: in the director and his or her vision.
- 1:02:34Speaker 17: I don't know.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:02:36Speaker 12: So it's just been a bit random up to now.
- 1:02:39Speaker 12: But if I, yeah, maybe I have more of a,
- 1:02:44Speaker 12: that I prefer, especially like if there's sort of a
- 1:02:47Speaker 12: philosophical undertone or sci-fi, fantasy themes, I think I'm more
- 1:02:51Speaker 12: drawn to that because that's the kind of films I
- 1:02:53Speaker 12: like to watch myself. So I'd rather do that than, like,
- 1:02:56Speaker 12: a romantic comedy. But I would do a romantic comedy
- 1:02:59Speaker 12: if the script is good.
- 1:03:00Speaker 6: Throw it at me.
- 1:03:01Speaker 17: I won't turn it down.
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: We usually kind of discuss stuff we've been watching. Have
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: you seen anything? Again, what kind of stuff that you're into?
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: Have you seen anything good lately to, like, recommend to people?
- 1:03:11Speaker 12: Oh.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 1:03:14Speaker 17: I don't know. I'm trying to think. Well, I just
- 1:03:16Speaker 17: watched the new Blade Runner.
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:03:18Speaker 17: That stands out.
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: Definitely. I watched that. I'm still trying to decide. I
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: feel like it's one of those, it's probably going to
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: grow on me. And then I was like, maybe the
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: first one was that. I'm trying to remember what my
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: initial response was the first time I watched Blade Runner.
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: And then it kind of became, I mean, that's how
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: the public, you know, like it didn't do well the
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: first one when it came out.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: It took.
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: 10, 15 years of.
- 1:03:38Speaker 17: People watching it on VHS.
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: And like, finally they were like, Oh, this is kind
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: of amazing. So it's like, that's kind of, I left
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: the theater. I was like, it's so well put together.
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: He does such a great job directing, but I'm like,
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: I don't, I still don't know where I sat with it.
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: So I don't know what was, did you have an
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: initial response to it or what was your take on it?
- 1:03:56Speaker 12: Um, The only thing I would say that I didn't
- 1:03:59Speaker 12: like about it was that it was a bit too long.
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: It's a lengthy movie.
- 1:04:03Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:04:04Speaker 12: But that might be also because we're not so used
- 1:04:06Speaker 12: to watch long films anymore. I remember when Lord of
- 1:04:09Speaker 12: the Rings came out, three hours was no problem. I
- 1:04:13Speaker 12: watched them all three times at the cinema and it
- 1:04:15Speaker 12: was all golden. But now in the time of TV series,
- 1:04:19Speaker 12: we get a shorter attention span. So I think maybe
- 1:04:22Speaker 12: that's part of why it's hard. to watch long films
- 1:04:26Speaker 12: and also when there's no like break at the cinema
- 1:04:28Speaker 12: that's what.
- 1:04:29Speaker 6: I was going to say we watch 15 hours of
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: Netflix in a sitting sometimes but like the movies I
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: don't know it's weird that we fit kind of one
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: or the other like movies that are three hours or
- 1:04:38Speaker 6: two long but we'll watch an entire series that's.
- 1:04:40Speaker 12: Very true sitting at home I guess it's all like
- 1:04:43Speaker 12: because of the you're back like in the comfort of
- 1:04:45Speaker 12: your own home and you can take pee breaks whenever
- 1:04:47Speaker 12: you want and get some more snacks I don't think.
- 1:04:49Speaker 6: The people in theater like that when I pause.
- 1:04:51Speaker 12: I'll be right back you guys hang out But yeah, no,
- 1:04:55Speaker 12: but otherwise, I really, really enjoyed it. I love Denis Villeneuve,
- 1:05:00Speaker 12: the director. Funnily enough, I had sort of forgotten that
- 1:05:03Speaker 12: he was the director. It doesn't seem like what he
- 1:05:06Speaker 12: would have done. Yeah, I actually forgot that he was
- 1:05:09Speaker 12: the one directing it because I tend to watch trailers,
- 1:05:12Speaker 12: but I watched them quite early on and then I
- 1:05:13Speaker 12: sort of, I hadn't watched anything for a while before
- 1:05:17Speaker 12: I went and saw it. And I'm kind of glad
- 1:05:18Speaker 12: that I forgot that it was his film because then
- 1:05:21Speaker 12: I would have been biased like in a positive way
- 1:05:24Speaker 12: but because I'd forgotten the director I watched it more
- 1:05:27Speaker 12: in a neutral frame of mind and no I just
- 1:05:31Speaker 12: loved the visuals the music the atmosphere because the first
- 1:05:36Speaker 12: Blade Runner was a lot about building this world and
- 1:05:40Speaker 12: it has a very distinct atmosphere that sort of set
- 1:05:42Speaker 12: the tone for many dystopian films to come and this
- 1:05:47Speaker 12: new one did it in such a like beautiful way
- 1:05:51Speaker 12: like harking back to the old one but not overdoing
- 1:05:54Speaker 12: it and also just continuing on this world yeah no
- 1:05:59Speaker 12: it was beautiful and I need to watch it again
- 1:06:01Speaker 12: because the first time it's sort of like more mesmerizing
- 1:06:04Speaker 12: and then the second time you can sort of be
- 1:06:06Speaker 12: a bit more critical and pick it apart a bit
- 1:06:09Speaker 12: more but I did like I'm not going to tell
- 1:06:11Speaker 12: any spoilers but I did like that there were more
- 1:06:13Speaker 12: twists in the storyline than at first sight I was
- 1:06:17Speaker 12: a bit worried that it was going to be too
- 1:06:18Speaker 12: simplistic at first but then They added some layers there.
- 1:06:22Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a couple of times when you think you
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: know where it's going, and it doesn't pull, like, a weird, like,
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: twist move. No, not like a... But, like, it's just
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: a shift in the story.
- 1:06:29Speaker 12: Yeah, not an ex machina, but, yeah, like something that, yeah,
- 1:06:34Speaker 12: it can still fly and surprise you a bit.
- 1:06:36Speaker 17: So, no, I really, really liked it.
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: I do feel like there's a lot there, though. That's
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: why it's one of those I can't just write up
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: and go, no, I didn't like it. It's like, no,
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: I think I need to process it. Like, I think
- 1:06:44Speaker 6: I need... six more viewings and like another couple of
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: years to just kind of sit there with it and
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: be like, no, maybe he's on to something. So, yeah,
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: I think it's kind of where the first one landed.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:57Speaker 6: Otherwise, I think if you want to give people what
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: is there stuff for people to look for that you've
- 1:07:02Speaker 6: got coming out or I don't know.
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: Sure, yeah.
- 1:07:05Speaker 6: Tell people what they need to find.
- 1:07:06Speaker 12: So there's a Brazilian feature film I'm working on at
- 1:07:09Speaker 12: the moment, which I'm super excited about. Um, they've already
- 1:07:13Speaker 12: started shooting in Sao Paulo, but we're gonna do some
- 1:07:16Speaker 12: rehearsals in London next week and then, um, uh, continue
- 1:07:20Speaker 12: filming in the Netherlands, uh, next year in January. So, um,
- 1:07:25Speaker 12: it's called Escape from Brazil and probably going to be
- 1:07:28Speaker 12: out sometime later next year or early 2019. Um, and, uh,
- 1:07:34Speaker 12: it's a crime drama with sort of, uh, I guess,
- 1:07:39Speaker 12: philosophical undertones.
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: There you go.
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: That's what you're looking for.
- 1:07:42Speaker 17: Without being pretentious. Like, it's a very real film.
- 1:07:45Speaker 12: It's very, like, realist, but still has this sort of,
- 1:07:48Speaker 12: I don't know, magic to it and interesting thoughts that
- 1:07:52Speaker 12: sort of surface in a, yeah, subtle way. But, yeah,
- 1:07:57Speaker 12: so that's fun. I'm going to play the female lead
- 1:08:00Speaker 12: in that. So that's what I'm working on at the moment.
- 1:08:03Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: You've kind of the next few up, you're the lead.
- 1:08:06Speaker 6: So you're moving into that, moving into that status. And
- 1:08:10Speaker 6: then do you, I don't know, usually I'll throw out
- 1:08:12Speaker 6: a few, is there social media? Should people like find
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: you or follow you or any of that?
- 1:08:17Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:08:18Speaker 17: I'm, I'm not very good with social media. I'm trying
- 1:08:21Speaker 17: to get better.
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: It's a lot to deal with.
- 1:08:23Speaker 12: But yeah, but, but people can find me on Instagram
- 1:08:27Speaker 12: and Twitter. I guess those are the two main channels.
- 1:08:30Speaker 12: And I do check it. I just don't, know what
- 1:08:32Speaker 12: to post but i'll try and find something to to
- 1:08:36Speaker 12: talk about there and yeah.
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: It's only every once in a while i'll post something
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: like outside of here's the new episode so when i
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: think of some smart ass comment i'm just like oh
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: finally i have something useful to post on the internet
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: because they need more smart ass comments on.
- 1:08:51Speaker 12: The internet they do so you work on those well
- 1:08:56Speaker 12: otherwise i think that's about it Thank you.
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: For being on the show.
- 1:08:59Speaker 17: Thank you so much for having me. It's been a pleasure.
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: You're welcome back.
- 1:09:02Speaker 17: Thank you. Thank you so much.
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: All right. So a huge thank you to Ingold for
- 1:09:40Speaker 6: sitting down, hanging out with us.
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: Even though she was a little bit chilly.
- 1:09:44Speaker 6: She was very chilly, but a huge thank you because
- 1:09:47Speaker 6: she wore my shirt.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: You will never wash again, but you might want to
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: edit that part out. I mean, you know. Well, it
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: was funny.
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: You would think if anyone, she would be like accustomed
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: to the cold. Aren't you like, isn't it built in?
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: You come from a cold part of the world. I
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: would think she'd be like, it'd be built into your system.
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: Just be like, cold. But again, that's what, as we
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: walked into that room, I don't think, She's prepared for
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: indoor cold. Like, I'm sure she's dealt with outdoor cold
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: for years and years. Even if not in Norway, UK
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: gets pretty damn cold, too. So, yeah, I would assume
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: in the outdoors she's dealt with a lot of cold.
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: But America's all about air conditioning. So as soon as
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: we walked in the room, it was cranked up and
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: she was a little chilly. So, yes, she wore my
- 1:10:33Speaker 6: shirt throughout the interview.
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: But she was a natural kind of beautiful, though. I mean,
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: it was. I mean, she don't think she was wearing
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: any makeup.
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: She doesn't need to.
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: She doesn't. I mean, because I looked at her. I'm like, she's,
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: you know, she's one of those.
- 1:10:45Speaker 14: She's pretty.
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: Above and beyond there.
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: She's adorable.
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: But let's go with also Brady Pigtails.
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh.
- 1:10:51Speaker 6: Hello. Can you get more adorable?
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: She's going to be creeped out by me saying that
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: because she was, I mean, she was, she's beautiful. She
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: had cute hair. She was just, uh.
- 1:10:59Speaker 6: She's kind of awesome. She was.
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: Just so sweet, you know. Half the time you meet people,
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: not half the time, a lot of times you meet
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: if somebody comes up to you and you're just like.
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: Again, we've had a good run. We've had a lot
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: of good guests come on and I don't always know
- 1:11:10Speaker 6: what we're going to get ourselves into and they're usually
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: pretty awesome. But yeah, gotta say, she was pretty great.
- 1:11:16Speaker 6: And again, super grounded and kind of a, as I
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: said during, like taking a perspective very different than you.
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: And again, I guess it's just not coming from America,
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: not coming from dealing with la every day of her life.
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: I would not have known listening to her voice that
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: she was not from here every once in.
- 1:11:34Speaker 6: A while there's a little yeah there's a little bit
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: of a twinge but for the most part yeah an
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: amazing uh command of english.
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: I just wanted to be like say something in norwegian
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: and i'm like all right hold on now you not
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: an american citizen i'm assuming is she not an american
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: citizen i would guess not i don't think she's been
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: here that long the fuck arnold schwarzenegger's problem I've said
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: that for years.
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: I think he trains daily to keep that accent because
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: you cannot, I mean, it's not like he came here
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: when he was 50. Like, he was, what, like 19
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: or something when he came over here and started acting
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: and was doing the championship winning giant belts and whatnot.
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: I mean, like, he's been here the majority of his
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: life you start to lose your i mean maybe not
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: all of it again there might be a little twinge
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: but i'm like you start to lose a good amount
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: of what originally was your accent unless you're him except
- 1:12:30Speaker 6: for him he's one of the few times that never
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: happens so i think he's got like a how to
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: speak austrian tape that he plays every day when he
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: wakes up in the morning and keep his Because it's
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: his money. Like, people expect him. Like, everyone in the
- 1:12:43Speaker 6: world does a bad Arnold impersonation. So if he didn't
- 1:12:46Speaker 6: sound like that anymore, he kind of loses his gimmick. Like,
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: all he had was, you know, muscles and a weird voice. And,
- 1:12:53Speaker 6: you know, now he's an old guy, so there's only
- 1:12:54Speaker 6: so far of your muscles. And he's still pretty freaking
- 1:12:56Speaker 6: huge for.
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: An old dude.
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: But, I don't know. I guess that's the only other
- 1:13:00Speaker 6: identity he has anymore is his crazy-ass accent. But, yep,
- 1:13:05Speaker 6: she's pretty flawless. And I've seen her do other voices in, like, other...
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: roles and again very very adaptable so I think I
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: think she's got.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: They don't have her face in the Star Wars movie
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: do they use her voice or do they type.
- 1:13:18Speaker 6: That I think sounds Carrie like too so I don't
- 1:13:20Speaker 6: know if they lifted it from old stuff and put
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: it I mean it's again you're the one person in
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: the world who hasn't seen it but it's like a
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: word so like her main shot is mostly a word
- 1:13:32Speaker 6: so but even that sounds very much like Carrie so what.
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: Word was it hope.
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: Oh As in anew, where every other Star Wars person
- 1:13:43Speaker 6: would get that.
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: If I had one word in a movie, we all
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: know what it would be.
- 1:13:48Speaker 6: Darn it.
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: Yeah, no. Anyway.
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: Yep, she was awesome. So, thank you. And again, hopefully
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: we'll have her back on. We can talk about some
- 1:13:57Speaker 6: more movies. Because I like kind of delving in. She's
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: got a nice sci-fi thing going, it sounds like. So,
- 1:14:03Speaker 6: we'll see if we can get her back. Talk about
- 1:14:05Speaker 6: some more geeky movies. What else? We wandered around. You
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: judged costumes?
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: I do that all the time.
- 1:14:12Speaker 6: You weren't part of the judges at the costume contest.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: I'm prejudging everybody.
- 1:14:16Speaker 6: As we decided while we were walking around, they were
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: making their announcement for prejudging. No, no, no. You've all
- 1:14:21Speaker 6: been prejudged. Don't you worry.
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: Even if you ain't wearing a costume.
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: We took care of that. You've all been judged.
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: I got locked down. Don't worry about it, Comic-Con. I
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: got your back.
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: I don't know why they just don't go ahead and
- 1:14:33Speaker 6: bring us in. Nobody's going to be more judgy than
- 1:14:36Speaker 6: we are. We might as well just be brought in
- 1:14:38Speaker 6: as official judges.
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: I mean, there was only a handful of just like, oh,
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: ones that I saw that I was just like, oh.
- 1:14:43Speaker 6: There was actually some good stuff. And like people that
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: put a lot of work into it this time. Like
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: there were a lot of people that were an entirely
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: different color. They were just like walking around blue or green.
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: I'm like, it wasn't just kind of smeared on their face.
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: Like they were entirely done. I'm like, that's a lot
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: of commitment. Like points to you for just like, yep,
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: this is what I'm doing this weekend. I'm going to
- 1:15:03Speaker 6: be green.
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: I just want to take a second to talk about
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: how much shit was going on. Yeah.
- 1:15:10Speaker 6: We were discussing that with our guests. So as we
- 1:15:12Speaker 6: were walking down the hallway there, I was trying to
- 1:15:15Speaker 6: be like, yeah, there's a lot going on in this place.
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: There was like a Kentucky Muscle show where all these
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: big buff dudes. I'm like, all right, now you're just
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: looking for trouble because you're getting all these bros right
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: next to the nerds.
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: Not a good idea, really. But I guess they didn't
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: really plan that. It just all fell on the same
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: weekend because you wouldn't put those two together on purpose.
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: There was like some kind of thing about schools at
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: the end with kids.
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: Yeah, there was like school kids wandering around and like.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: Then we leave out the back and there's fucking a
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: pigeon festival or something.
- 1:15:44Speaker 6: What was going on? We never figured out what that was.
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: There was just old white dudes carrying out boxes full
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: of birds. It was the weirdest. And we're like, what?
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: You were just like, what is that box? What? Is
- 1:15:54Speaker 6: there pigeons in there? Like, you were just, you were
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: really excited.
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: I was like, what the fuck is going on?
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: Then they left one big box completely unattended. And I
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: was just like, oh, pigeons. Here we go. I can
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: see Jay now. Like, what the hell did you bring
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: pigeons home for? Like, but we got them for free.
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: They were just sitting there.
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: I had to look it up, see what all was
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: going on. I was just like, what the hell is
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: going on? Is there anything not going on? Because you're
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: going to have the nerds next to the muscles next
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: to the kids and then pigeons in the back.
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: And the pigeons flying around their head.
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: I'm like, how much shit's going on this weekend? I
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: was just like, whoa, y'all. You weren't even fucking around,
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: were you?
- 1:16:34Speaker 6: What day is today?
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: It was the National Young Bird Show. Young birds. Oh, yeah.
- 1:16:40Speaker 6: That's what you're into. The young birds. I kind of can.
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: As I said, I see you with a nice Mike
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: Tyson thing going on. Crazy, surrounded by birds.
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: There was an engineering and land surveying examinations going on too.
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: Showcase of schools. Uh-oh, boyfriend's going to be disappointed.
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: What did he miss? Muscle he missed?
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: Gun show. Oh, Lord. How did you not get gun
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: show out of that?
- 1:17:08Speaker 6: She was showing me her guns. That's how that worked
- 1:17:11Speaker 6: for you at home.
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: Kentucky Muscle. Oh, shit. We missed the Louisville Metro Public
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: paper shredding and drug toss.
- 1:17:21Speaker 6: Wait, what? That's even weirder than the birds. What the
- 1:17:26Speaker 6: hell is going on?
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: We also missed the jam fest. Was that like a.
- 1:17:33Speaker 6: Jam sucka. Jam sucka.
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: I don't know about this drug toss. What the fuck
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: is this mess?
- 1:17:38Speaker 6: No, I was more interested in the paper shredding. Just
- 1:17:40Speaker 6: like a big pile of paper and you just go up.
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: To the shredder and... Louisville residents are invited to bring
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: unneeded documents and prescription drugs to be shredded to dispose
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: of at a free event. Free event, you gotta pay
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: to get in to ship.
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: A cane and a big-ass box of paper. What is
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: wrong with people? I mean, they want to make fun
- 1:18:01Speaker 6: of us for being geeks and going to Comic-Con, but...
- 1:18:04Speaker 6: Come on, guys. Look at the other options out in
- 1:18:05Speaker 6: the world.
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: Citizens can protect themselves from identity theft and divert unused
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: medications from the waste stream or misuse by bringing items to...
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: Give me all your medications.
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: See, and I also... I took it the other way.
- 1:18:20Speaker 6: I like the toss. Like, you're supposed to, like, whip
- 1:18:23Speaker 6: them across the parking lot and whoever gets it the
- 1:18:25Speaker 6: furthest gets some sort of prize. It's the drug toss.
- 1:18:30Speaker 6: Come on, guys.
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: Oh, the jam fest is tomorrow. We could totally go
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: to that, too. Jam sucker.
- 1:18:35Speaker 6: Jam sucker.
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: What is the jam? Is that an actual... I don't
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: know if this is, like, a musical thing or, like,
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: if it's an actual fest of jams and jellies.
- 1:18:43Speaker 6: Either way, it's going to be good. We need to
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: combine those. Let's make the jam jam. and like bring
- 1:18:48Speaker 6: homemade jams and we have like a music event all
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: oh no never.
- 1:18:52Speaker 4: Mind this is not what i was hoping it was
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: this is for dance i was hoping it would be
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: for cheerleading because i am all about some like fucking competition.
- 1:18:58Speaker 6: Bring it on i believe what i'm.
- 1:19:01Speaker 4: Saying you know that's tomorrow is that tomorrow there's still time.
- 1:19:09Speaker 6: I don't know that there is time for you. I
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: don't think there's time for you or hope.
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: No. I'm all out of all those things.
- 1:19:15Speaker 6: Speaking of hope.
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: Bring us a bow in town.
- 1:19:22Speaker 6: Anyway.
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: Young bird show.
- 1:19:29Speaker 6: You didn't buy stuff while we were there. I bought
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: some stuff.
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: I bought some sketches that are wonderful and artistic. They're
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: a classy subject matter.
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: That's true. You are, as I said earlier.
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: I'm a goddamn connoisseur of art.
- 1:19:42Speaker 6: Very high caliber in your taste.
- 1:19:46Speaker 4: It's Ren and Stimpy. Which is fucking awesome. You can't
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: go wrong with Ren and Stimpy.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: Actually, yeah, you can.
- 1:19:52Speaker 6: Remember when you tried to bring it back? God, those
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: were awful. I don't understand that at all. But that
- 1:19:57Speaker 6: first season, season and a half, is gold. You really
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: can't go wrong with anything out of that first run
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: that came out. So the stuff that was on MTV.
- 1:20:06Speaker 6: Before it even got bounced to Nick at night. Like,
- 1:20:09Speaker 6: the original run.
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: Look at how happy this guy is with his birds.
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: Oh, Jesus.
- 1:20:12Speaker 6: This is why I really kind of see you as
- 1:20:15Speaker 6: a crazy bird person.
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: I fucking hate birds. Like, literally, I hate them.
- 1:20:19Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: Except for owls.
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: That's why I can see you crazy and surrounded by
- 1:20:23Speaker 6: an entire room of them. And you're just naming them
- 1:20:26Speaker 6: and talking to them and taking them out.
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: If it's owls, maybe. If it's any other kind of
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: bird other than a tufted titmouse.
- 1:20:31Speaker 6: Just a room full of owls.
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: And tufted titmice.
- 1:20:35Speaker 6: Oh, you.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: Is titmice the plural of titmouse?
- 1:20:38Speaker 6: Don't make me pluralize it. It's not going to go well.
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: Titmouse is heat.
- 1:20:46Speaker 6: No, let's just leave it alone. Anyway.
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: Good times.
- 1:20:52Speaker 6: I got a pen. You got a pen? Do I
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: have a pen?
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, a pen. I'm like, you want to write
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: something down?
- 1:20:58Speaker 6: A pedal pin. An enamel pin. Like we get at
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: every show now.
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: I usually, I get them more than everybody else does.
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: Nobody else cares about, you know, as much stuff as
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: I do. I'm a collector of things.
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: Accumulator of things. As am I.
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: I got a, my pet monster. Is that what it's called?
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: I never actually, I don't think I had one. I
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: think that somebody else had one, like one around. Because
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: I remember, like, always trying to, like, get it. And
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: I was like.
- 1:21:29Speaker 6: That does sound like you.
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: I know, right?
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: Coveting other's things.
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: I know, right?
- 1:21:33Speaker 6: You are a covet.
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: I used to get so mad at my cousin Tiffany's house. Buffy,
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: as it were.
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: Buffy!
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: And she had Mousetrap. And because she had it, she
- 1:21:41Speaker 4: never wanted to play it. And I always wanted to
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: play Mousetrap so bad. Because I'm like, this is the
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: most amazing thing ever.
- 1:21:48Speaker 6: I mean, it is a pretty impressive contraption when it
- 1:21:51Speaker 6: all works right.
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: People don't want to play with their toys when... It's
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: something that you don't have.
- 1:21:56Speaker 13: You know?
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: I'm going to be so mad. But, yeah, she might
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: have been the one who had a My Pet Monster,
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: but that doesn't really seem like Buffy's style, so maybe
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: it wasn't. Anyways. Yeah, so I bought a My Pet
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: Monster enamel pin, which is fucking amazing.
- 1:22:09Speaker 6: Not a full-size monster, but a pin of his head,
- 1:22:12Speaker 6: and he's crazy.
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: I think they did recently re-release them, so I mean,
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: I could probably, I thought they didn't ever release them.
- 1:22:17Speaker 6: That's why, when I was like, didn't you have one
- 1:22:18Speaker 6: of those? I thought you bought one, like, in recent years,
- 1:22:20Speaker 6: not like in the original run. That's why I was
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: thinking you had one.
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: Maybe you're thinking of Jessica. I think she did. Jessica Marlena.
- 1:22:26Speaker 6: That does sound like something she would have.
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: I bought that and you bought a pumpkin?
- 1:22:30Speaker 6: It's a demented pumpkin. It's pretty evil looking.
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: I would tell you the name of the company that
- 1:22:36Speaker 4: we bought them from but my bag is in my car.
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: They're working on a pin collection with three or four
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: other artists.
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: I think it's three others. I think it was like
- 1:22:48Speaker 6: four total.
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: But they're doing this special enamel pin run for Halloween.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: Here, this one's mine.
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: Does it have his name on there? Chris Mc.
- 1:23:01Speaker 6: McVillain?
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: McVillain. But yeah, that's who he bought.
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: It's MC Villain to you. That's his rap name. I'm
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: making that up, Chris.
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: I don't know. I thought it was Chris McVillain. His
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: website is chrismcvillain.com. He's a tattoo guy, but he also
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: has these enamel pins, which I fucking love enamel pins.
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: But it's him and I think Lunar Crypt. Are all
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: of them on there? Yeah, because you bought the one
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: from the series. Rat Knife. He put the fucking thing
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: right through the... I can't.
- 1:23:30Speaker 14: Because it's underneath the back of the pin.
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: I just opened your.
- 1:23:34Speaker 6: Oh my god, you opened it. It's worthless now. You
- 1:23:37Speaker 6: broke the seal.
- 1:23:41Speaker 14: They're like the kind that you stick together. Scumbags and Superstars.
- 1:23:47Speaker 6: Well, that was worth the effort.
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: But no, it's really cool.
- 1:23:51Speaker 14: Because they're each one doing this special limited edition. Is
- 1:23:55Speaker 14: there something under.
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: This one too?
- 1:23:58Speaker 14: Oh dude, if you have fucking print that small, nobody
- 1:24:02Speaker 14: can fucking read that.
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: Read that. Anyways, they're doing this really cool limited edition
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: run of pins. And he seemed really cool and the
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: pins are all like vintage Halloween looking kind of things,
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: which is really awesome. So, You can at least check
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: out his at chrismcvillain.com.
- 1:24:20Speaker 6: Yeah, he was very cool. We stood there and talked
- 1:24:22Speaker 6: to him for quite a while. And we knew artists
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: in common. I'm wearing a dorky art shirt, and he
- 1:24:28Speaker 6: recognized the artist who did it.
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: But anyways, so yeah. We bought awesome pens from that guy,
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: so go check it out.
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: He was very cool, so go check out his work. chrismcvillain.com Otherwise,
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: it was a fun convention.
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: Yes, it was.
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: We wandered around. We saw stuff. We hung out with
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: a princess.
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:24:52Speaker 6: Any other fun, exciting things we did today? Other than
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: you saw birds. I mean, birds and a princess. What
- 1:24:58Speaker 6: more do you want?
- 1:24:59Speaker 4: And pizza.
- 1:25:00Speaker 6: And you had pizza after that. This was a pretty
- 1:25:03Speaker 6: awesome day. That having been said, we want to give
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: a big shout out to Derby City Comic Con for
- 1:25:11Speaker 6: making this day and this episode possible.
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: I do love Derby City Comic Con. I don't always
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: say that. I mean, I always, like, every time I
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: go to a convention, I'm like, I love this convention.
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: I mean, you kind of love conventions. I don't know
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: if you guys have noticed, since we're at a convention
- 1:25:24Speaker 6: every weekend of our lives, but you seem to be
- 1:25:27Speaker 6: pretty partial to conventions.
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: Well, this was one of the ones that I, it's like,
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: I don't think we had heard of it before, and
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: I'm the one who, like, started going to this one.
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: I think I took Jay a couple years ago, and
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: it was the first time we had been, like, one
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: of the first times. This convention's not been around all
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: that long. But it started out just, like, as very local, like,
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: a small-run convention that had more, you know... artists because
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: a lot of times you go to the conventions and
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: all you get is.
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: Like stuff just like product i.
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: Love stuff but i also love like artists and i
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: love like i love hand i like sketches i love
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: sketches i love hand-drawn stuff i love.
- 1:26:01Speaker 6: Original art not and no offense i understand people make
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: money selling prints but like i've never responded well to
- 1:26:08Speaker 6: prints again as somebody who ran an art show for years.
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: I have so much original art that I have nowhere
- 1:26:14Speaker 6: to hang because I just respond to, like, for real art.
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: There's just something that's more personal to it. It's more
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: like somebody actually... put something into it. It's not just,
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, I understand the concept, you know, sometimes
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: if you do have to do prints or something, it's,
- 1:26:30Speaker 4: if it's a bigger, more elaborate thing.
- 1:26:32Speaker 6: And sometimes people just don't care, you know, like I
- 1:26:36Speaker 6: care about it being an original, like it would kind
- 1:26:38Speaker 6: of bother me that it wasn't if I ended up
- 1:26:40Speaker 6: with a print, but like, a lot of people don't care. Like,
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: it's just, that is not their thing. They're not that
- 1:26:45Speaker 6: hardcore into art. They like this one picture, and they
- 1:26:48Speaker 6: were like, hey, what's the least amount I can get
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: that and go hang a version of it on my
- 1:26:52Speaker 6: wall or refrigerator or wherever normal people put their art.
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: I don't know. I do think I have bought a
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: couple prints, but they had been small, like, small things.
- 1:27:01Speaker 6: And there are a lot of people who are working
- 1:27:03Speaker 6: almost specifically computer-based now. And at that point, there is
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: no original. The original is the finished print product. So
- 1:27:10Speaker 6: that I give kind of a gray area. That I'm like, no,
- 1:27:12Speaker 6: that is its own type of art form and it's okay.
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: Just if I had my.
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: Because of what it is.
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: If I have my choice, my pick of the matter,
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: it's going to be like... I would rather buy like
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: a little $ 5 sketch that somebody did than like something
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: that they printed out mass quantities of, you know.
- 1:27:29Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:27:30Speaker 4: Because to me, it's like, all right, you can do
- 1:27:33Speaker 4: another one, and it's not going to be exactly like this.
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: It might be pretty close. That's part of it.
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: And my Ren and Stimpy are fucking awesome, by the way.
- 1:27:41Speaker 6: They're pretty awesome. Also, a tattoo artist. There's a lot
- 1:27:45Speaker 6: of tattoo artists that work on the side in different
- 1:27:48Speaker 6: art forms.
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: Which is cool, because that way, the more medium you have,
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: if you want to focus on this, okay, but if
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: you can do this and this and this, you know,
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: if one ties to the other.
- 1:28:01Speaker 6: I think more than anything at this point, everybody's just
- 1:28:04Speaker 6: struggling to survive. So, whatever will make them enough money
- 1:28:08Speaker 6: to live the next week to the next week to
- 1:28:10Speaker 6: the next, whatever paycheck is coming in, at that point,
- 1:28:13Speaker 6: you go with it, because I'm certainly at that point,
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: so I understand, and that's kind of why, especially artists,
- 1:28:18Speaker 6: because nobody gets screwed over more than artists. Like, there's
- 1:28:22Speaker 6: a reason the term starving artists exists. Yeah, so... There's
- 1:28:26Speaker 6: a lot of super talented people out there that are
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: not really getting paid and certainly not at the level
- 1:28:31Speaker 6: they probably should be for as talented as they are.
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: But that's how the world works. so i again that's
- 1:28:36Speaker 6: another part is i like to kind of support them
- 1:28:39Speaker 6: if they're doing cool original art and showing up with
- 1:28:41Speaker 6: it i'd rather buy it from them and give them
- 1:28:43Speaker 6: the money for what actual work they put into that
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: and just go to a you know walmart and buy
- 1:28:49Speaker 6: a poster off the rack which again a lot of
- 1:28:52Speaker 6: people are fine with that so It's a different, it's
- 1:28:55Speaker 6: just a different mode. It's being attracted to a different
- 1:28:59Speaker 6: type of aesthetics.
- 1:29:01Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: We've been coming to this one for a few years now.
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: They got bought out by a bigger one. But they
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: got bought out by the Lexington.
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: Comic and Toy Convention that we also go to. So
- 1:29:13Speaker 6: it's okay because I really thought they were doing a
- 1:29:15Speaker 6: good job running that one. So now they've.
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: But it's just kind of changing. It's becoming more of.
- 1:29:20Speaker 6: The comics. Yeah, it's more of a comic show and toys.
- 1:29:24Speaker 6: It's got everything now, yeah.
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: I think it's going to become bigger because they've already...
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: The first one we went to, there might have been
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: a few comic book artists, but there was no name.
- 1:29:37Speaker 6: They didn't bring in bigger guests and they weren't really
- 1:29:41Speaker 6: worried about it at the time, but now it's expanding
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: and in the weird Comic-Con world that we live in,
- 1:29:47Speaker 6: everybody does these and does bigger.
- 1:29:49Speaker 12: Ones and wants.
- 1:29:49Speaker 6: They all kind of have to compete and get bigger
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: and better. So, yeah, these guys are stepping up and
- 1:29:54Speaker 6: doing it.
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: So hopefully they continue to keep expanding and keep getting
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: more awesomer and more stuff because I love stuff.
- 1:30:03Speaker 6: Awesomer.
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: Awesomer. What, dude? Don't questionize my mess.
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: Don't question my grammical skills.
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: Yeah, duh.
- 1:30:12Speaker 6: So, you too should come join in next time. To
- 1:30:16Speaker 6: find out more about it, go to derbycitycomicon.com and see
- 1:30:20Speaker 6: what they're doing next time around as they get more awesomer.
- 1:30:24Speaker 9: Mm-hmm.
- 1:30:25Speaker 6: With that, I say we wrap it up. Otherwise, that
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: about does it. We will return next time. Same geek feed.
- 1:30:30Speaker 6: Thanks for listening. We of the North will hear our
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: notes echoed from the rest of the world.
- 1:30:37Speaker 13: Sing the silent snow. Sing the wintery seas Sing throngs
- 1:30:47Speaker 13: of trees Swarming up.
- 1:30:49Speaker 7: The hills Clothed.
- 1:30:52Speaker 13: In glittering garb Of frost-formed diamonds Sing on of forest and.
- 1:31:01Speaker 7: Of fjord Made.
- 1:31:03Speaker 13: On milky and mystic land By winter's wizard hand Tall
- 1:31:14Speaker 13: ice cathedrals, crystal colonnades, vast sprawling mountains, neat snow white brocades,
- 1:31:21Speaker 13: like giants fast asleep. Sing how of a sudden the
- 1:31:29Speaker 13: wayward sun, repenting his southward flight, returns to flood the
- 1:31:35Speaker 13: land with spring. Once more the earth grows green, the
- 1:31:49Speaker 13: hillside shed their ermine mantle. Once more the birds are
- 1:31:58Speaker 13: seen and buttercups go blithely dancing. Iris grow, streams all flow.
- 1:32:12Speaker 13: Towering above them, the mountain tops still crowned with snow.
- 1:32:20Speaker 8: Sing the foaming creak, ah, sing the snowy peak, sing
- 1:32:28Speaker 8: no way.
- 1:32:36Speaker 13: Lambs leaping free, sweeping through the glades.
- 1:32:40Speaker 15: Water tumbling down a thousand thundering cascades. As purple hues
- 1:32:48Speaker 15: of summer turn.
- 1:32:51Speaker 13: To autumn's burnished shades. Yes, minstrel. Sing and let your
- 1:33:05Speaker 13: voice not die The grandeur of glacier, fjord, and sky
- 1:33:16Speaker 13: Inform an unknowing world what we know well That the
- 1:33:24Speaker 13: land of the.
- 1:33:25Speaker 15: Hard, cold north Has warm delights and soft mysteries.
- 1:33:31Speaker 7: To tell And then, minstrel, you will.
- 1:33:38Speaker 8: Have made a true song, the song.
- 1:33:41Speaker 7: Of Norway, whose music will ever enshrine the heart of
- 1:33:53Speaker 7: your beloved home.
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: And mine. There's a bird at the Young Bird show.
- 1:34:13Speaker 6: Go grab him. Take him on over there. I told you.
- 1:34:16Speaker 6: Look what I got. You just come in with him
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: wrapped in your hoodie. I got a bird, too. You
- 1:34:21Speaker 6: guys want to see it?
