- 0:13Get laced up.
- 0:14It's time for Bantor with the Boys.
- 0:29What's up everybody, welcome back to Bantor with the Boys.
- 0:32The grand finale is here Smelty.
- 0:35The grand finale is here.
- 0:37It's Super Bowl week, what we've been waiting for.
- 0:39But as always, got my main man Smelty with me here today.
- 0:42Want to wish you a happy belated birthday.
- 0:44Hope you had a good weekend celebrating getting some time off.
- 0:47Yeah, for sure.
- 0:48We're just going to ignore my birthday because obviously that means I got a year older.
- 0:53So we'll just kind of skim over that.
- 0:55That's not really a big deal.
- 0:56I actually got a fact for you right off the bat.
- 1:00Since you mentioned that it's a season finale.
- 1:04Do you know how much the Lombardi Trophy weighs?
- 1:06Can't say that I do.
- 1:09I'm going to go ahead and guess 13.7 pounds.
- 1:13Why?
- 1:14Why the points?
- 1:15It doesn't matter.
- 1:16Seven pounds.
- 1:17Seven pounds is what it weighs.
- 1:18Dang.
- 1:19Yeah.
- 1:20So now you know.
- 1:21That's a good fact to know, dude.
- 1:22Now you can go to your local, you know, dive bar and win trivia night.
- 1:28Thanks to Smelty.
- 1:29So I appreciate it, dude.
- 1:30It's one of my main hobbies is going to dive bars for local trivia.
- 1:33You look the part.
- 1:34I feel it.
- 1:35I feel it.
- 1:36Well, we don't have much to recap this week because we had the Pro Bowl last week.
- 1:40And let's be honest, nobody watches that thing.
- 1:42However, the skills challenge was pretty cool.
- 1:44But again, you just watch the highlights on YouTube.
- 1:47Did you watch any of it at all?
- 1:49Highlights on YouTube.
- 1:50Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:51I turned on for like 10 minutes, thought I was going to get into it.
- 1:57And it was like the flag football portion.
- 1:58And I was just like, you know, no, it's just I couldn't do it.
- 2:03I can't watch grown men play flag football, man.
- 2:06Yeah, it's just I mean, it'll never be what it once was.
- 2:09The days of Sean Taylor just destroy in a punter.
- 2:12Oh, yeah.
- 2:13You'll never see that again for a pro ball.
- 2:14Yeah, they should bring the game back.
- 2:16But I don't at the same time.
- 2:17I don't know.
- 2:18Nobody's got nobody's hitting, you know.
- 2:20Nobody's going to play.
- 2:21It's not in Hawaii.
- 2:22Like the one thing that's actually somewhat exciting, they should put it back in Hawaii.
- 2:26100 percent.
- 2:27100 percent.
- 2:28They should put it back in Hawaii.
- 2:29The one thing that is exciting is that, you know, some of the skills challenges are pretty
- 2:31cool.
- 2:32But again, you don't get like the top, top, top tier players going anymore.
- 2:36So you know, like the quarterback challenge, Dan Orlowski shouldn't beat the six pro ball
- 2:41quarterbacks in that challenge.
- 2:43That was insane.
- 2:46I mean, props to Dan Orlowski, though.
- 2:47Boy can still sling.
- 2:48He can still yeah, he can still sling it.
- 2:50All right.
- 2:51Well, let's move on.
- 2:52We're going to we're going to start this really podcast off with get right into tent talk
- 2:56this week.
- 2:57Nine one one.
- 2:58What's your emergency?
- 2:59We really don't have too much from injuries, you know, as kind of expected with the two
- 3:06week rest.
- 3:07A lot of players got to got to get healthy.
- 3:09But Joe Tooney, guard for Kansas City, is unsure if he will practice this week.
- 3:14But again, one would imagine he's going to go ahead and play.
- 3:16He's got to.
- 3:17I mean, at this at this stage in the playoffs, I know we've said it literally every week
- 3:22when we talk injuries like you got to have this guy, you got to because you do.
- 3:26If it's the playoffs, obviously now it's the Super Bowl.
- 3:28Like you got to have him.
- 3:30He's a big piece of Pacheco season this year.
- 3:32Like you just got to have it.
- 3:34And again, we'd imagine that he will be playing on Sunday.
- 3:38Yeah, he's he's going to be good to go.
- 3:40You just don't miss this game.
- 3:42And he's pretty big to that team, especially with how, you know, big and dangerous that
- 3:4749ers front four front seven are.
- 3:49They're going to need him in there to open up some holes.
- 3:51But that's all we got for injuries, to be honest with you.
- 3:54Like I said, teams are pretty pretty clean this this go around.
- 3:58Everybody's banged up at this time, but they're going to be good to go.
- 4:00So let's get into some news.
- 4:04It came out today that the Philadelphia Eagles are going to actually host a game in Brazil
- 4:10week one next year, which is pretty crazy.
- 4:13And you have a fun fact about this game.
- 4:16I do.
- 4:17I do.
- 4:18Huh?
- 4:19Yeah, it's the first time there'll be an NFL game on a Friday night in week one in 50 years
- 4:24turns out, which is pretty impressive.
- 4:27That's pretty crazy.
- 4:28I mean, it gives us another prime time game and opening weekend of football.
- 4:30Gotta love that.
- 4:32And how cool is it?
- 4:33They're going down to Brazil.
- 4:34I kind of want to watch that game.
- 4:35But at the same time, it's just like I probably coach a game that night myself because it's
- 4:39a Friday night.
- 4:40Friday night lights.
- 4:41So let's let's hope that that's on a Thursday night so I can watch this game on Friday.
- 4:45There you go.
- 4:47It's still to be announced to.
- 4:48Well, the Thursday game to you're going to have the Super Bowl champion in that game.
- 4:52So you're going to miss that one of the two care less.
- 4:54OK, fair enough.
- 4:56Be careful with the unless it's the vikes.
- 4:58It's in Brazil, bro.
- 4:59It's in like I just want to watch it because I got up to watch the Germany game.
- 5:03Same reason.
- 5:04That's that's different.
- 5:05It wasn't in whatever the UK stadium is again in London.
- 5:09Wimbledon.
- 5:10No Wembley Wembley Wimbledon is the tennis event held.
- 5:15No, no, no.
- 5:17W is here.
- 5:18No, you're right.
- 5:19Yes, the tennis event.
- 5:20But let's talk about tennis because we don't know what the hell we're talking about.
- 5:23Sure don't.
- 5:24Sure don't.
- 5:25So other news that came out, that kind of well, it doesn't surprise me because he just
- 5:28always wants his name out there.
- 5:29But Levi on Bell wants to return at 31.
- 5:33Do you have hate for Levy on Bell?
- 5:35I don't hate him.
- 5:36That's a strong word.
- 5:38You highly dislike his antics.
- 5:40Yeah, yeah.
- 5:41No, I.
- 5:42So I got like a soft spot for him,
- 5:44because you know Michigan State,
- 5:46and so like I don't know,
- 5:48but his attitude definitely changed,
- 5:50like once he was like killing it,
- 5:51his first like what, four years or so.
- 5:53I'd say more than that.
- 5:54In the NFL, it was four or five,
- 5:56and then he kind of went on that decline
- 5:58and left Pittsburgh.
- 6:00Yeah, he got his money.
- 6:01He got his money, went to New York,
- 6:02I believe on a four year deal
- 6:04and just rapidly declined.
- 6:05Oh that's right, and he was only there
- 6:07for like two years of that deal I think.
- 6:08I don't even think he finished his contract there.
- 6:10Yeah, it was something like that.
- 6:11And he went to New York.
- 6:12If I'm not mistaken, he then played for the Chiefs.
- 6:15Yeah, well he was on the Chiefs
- 6:16for like a short stint.
- 6:17He wore a Chiefs uniform?
- 6:18He did, yeah he wore a Chiefs uniform.
- 6:20No, he did actually play a couple games,
- 6:22like six games for him or something like that.
- 6:24It wasn't many, but he did play.
- 6:27And then yeah, one other team that he just, I don't know.
- 6:30So we'll see.
- 6:31He says he'd only play for Pittsburgh.
- 6:33That's interesting, that's interesting.
- 6:35If you're a 31 year old running back
- 6:36wanting to make a return,
- 6:37I don't know if I would necessarily
- 6:38limit myself like that.
- 6:40Well, for one, two, good point.
- 6:43But then like Mike Tomlin,
- 6:45like him and Mike Tomlin did not agree on some things
- 6:48right there at the end of his tenure in Pittsburgh, so.
- 6:52Yeah, but it's also Mike Tomlin.
- 6:54He's a players coach.
- 6:55I think that relationship could be amended, but.
- 6:57So what is Le'Veon trying to do?
- 6:59Just like make a comeback for himself personally?
- 7:01Because there's Najee Harris and what?
- 7:04Jaylen Warren.
- 7:05So like what?
- 7:06They both rushed over 700 I think this year, both of them?
- 7:09Yeah, Le'Veon went over a thousand.
- 7:10They both had over a thousand scrimmage yards.
- 7:12They both, oh, it was over a thousand, okay.
- 7:13I knew it was, oh, scrimmage yards, okay, sure.
- 7:17Yeah, but that's the thing is like,
- 7:18where does he fit on this team?
- 7:20For the potential locker room toxicity?
- 7:22Like, what are you gonna do?
- 7:23You're gonna overtake two young guns?
- 7:25I think he could play somewhere if he didn't,
- 7:27like you said, limit himself to the one team.
- 7:30Yeah, it's also not in his favor that running backs
- 7:33are not near a much of a commodity anymore.
- 7:36Especially at 31 years old.
- 7:37And 31 year old hasn't played in the league in how many years
- 7:39and did not do good the last years he was in the league.
- 7:43Like, who would?
- 7:43He wasn't used very much, no.
- 7:44And there's a reason you don't get used very much.
- 7:46All right, he should continue focusing on rapping and boxing.
- 7:49I think that could be maybe be some more future in him
- 7:51than the NFL, but we're talking about him.
- 7:54It's what he wants.
- 7:57So let's get into some coaching news.
- 7:59So surprisingly, not only did Ben Johnson decide
- 8:02to stay put as the offensive coordinator for the Lions,
- 8:06he came out to say that the basketball,
- 8:09or sorry, the Washington commander's brass
- 8:11were basketball guys.
- 8:13Yeah, and like it's kind of like a,
- 8:16this has now even got another fold to it
- 8:19as of today actually, that allegedly,
- 8:22I don't know how it works for coaches,
- 8:23their agent or some sort of representative for them,
- 8:26whatever, in contract talks and crap,
- 8:29had already texted the commanders like,
- 8:32top guys as they were heading to Detroit
- 8:34to talk to Ben saying that he was gonna stay there.
- 8:39So now it's came out because now,
- 8:42Washington kind of said that they didn't really like
- 8:45how he interviewed and like his attitude
- 8:47and stuff like this after he said the basketball guys thing.
- 8:51And now it's came out again that,
- 8:53well, they already knew that he wasn't interested
- 8:56and still came anyway.
- 8:57And like now it's just this big weird thing.
- 8:59Like, it's just kind of weird.
- 9:01It is, it's like, it's a lot of drama for a-
- 9:06It's not needed right now.
- 9:06Coordinator.
- 9:08Right.
- 9:09It's not Bill Belichick we're talking about doing this.
- 9:10Somebody that's actually gonna grab a headline.
- 9:12It's an offensive coordinator for a team
- 9:14that had its first playoff win in 30 years.
- 9:19And that's just it.
- 9:19This sucks for a team that like has had nothing
- 9:22but things to celebrate even with the loss in the playoffs.
- 9:26Like, it's such a good time to be a Detroit fan right now.
- 9:31And then you got this, that's kind of just mucking it up.
- 9:33Like, come on.
- 9:34Exactly, and I mean, it is a win.
- 9:36The Lions are keeping them.
- 9:38So it's still something to be happy about.
- 9:39It's just, you're right.
- 9:40It's just a little bit too much drama for what it needs to be.
- 9:45Go to the beach, bro.
- 9:46Yeah, man.
- 9:47Take your time off, go to the beach, chill out.
- 9:49Just, you're staying.
- 9:50Boom, don't talk to nobody else.
- 9:52Do the Clif Kingsbury and go to Taiwan or whatever.
- 9:54Or not Kingsbury, or was it Kingsbury?
- 9:56Yeah, clearly with the Thailand.
- 9:57Thailand, that's what it was, yeah.
- 9:59Yeah, it's wild.
- 10:00But let's move on from there.
- 10:02So we kind of mentioned this a couple of pods ago.
- 10:05And it's Mike McDonald got hired by the Seahawks
- 10:09as the head coach.
- 10:10It all kind of makes sense now that the Seahawks' job was,
- 10:13it's one that it's kind of favorable.
- 10:15It was the second best job, in my opinion,
- 10:17behind the Chargers.
- 10:18And it was just staying open.
- 10:19They weren't really interviewing guys,
- 10:21but they were waiting for their guy
- 10:23to come out of the playoffs.
- 10:24Ravens had to lose.
- 10:25McDonald became available.
- 10:26And bada bing, bada bang, he's the head coach of the Seahawks.
- 10:29Yeah, I think that's pretty wild.
- 10:31And honestly, there's no we here.
- 10:33You gotta take your flowers.
- 10:34You called that, I think, two pods ago.
- 10:37Something about Mike McDonald maybe going to the Seahawks.
- 10:40You maybe think it would be a good fit.
- 10:42And obviously it's happened.
- 10:43You add in Leslie Frazier to that,
- 10:45who's had some successful defenses under his time as well.
- 10:49So now you got two crazy defensive minds.
- 10:52And McDonald's, I believe,
- 10:54now the youngest head coach in the league.
- 10:56You are correct, sir.
- 10:57He is the youngest coach in the league
- 10:58at a ripe age of 36.
- 11:02Insane that a 36 year old head coach is,
- 11:04well, a 36 year old is being hired as a head coach.
- 11:07What's even more insane is McVeigh
- 11:09was the youngest head coach ever to be hired at 31,
- 11:12seven years ago.
- 11:13And he's now still the third youngest coach
- 11:15in the league at 38.
- 11:17Could you imagine that?
- 11:19How old are you?
- 11:2031.
- 11:20Yeah, okay.
- 11:22Could you imagine being head coach of an NFL team
- 11:24and half the people around you, coaching staff, players,
- 11:28personnel, like half of them are all older than you.
- 11:31And like, you're just, you run the show.
- 11:34That's just absurd to me.
- 11:35Just absurd to me.
- 11:36While somebody not quite as young
- 11:38got hired as the head coach of the Washington commanders,
- 11:42the previous defensive coordinator for the Cowboys,
- 11:45Dan Quinn is headed to Washington
- 11:47and he's taking his secondary coach, Joe Witt,
- 11:50with him as the DC.
- 11:52That hurts a little bit because Joe Witt
- 11:54was actually a part of the Packers staff.
- 11:56Charles Woodson raved about him.
- 11:59And so it's good to see him get his spot.
- 12:02He was a secondary coach with Dallas, so it makes sense.
- 12:05But I like that hire.
- 12:07I've always been a fan of Dan Quinn
- 12:08ever going back to the Legion of Boom.
- 12:11He didn't succeed as the head coach of the Falcons,
- 12:13but he's taken over a team that's a quarterback away
- 12:15from being, I would say, a playoff caliber team.
- 12:19They're not a contender, but a playoff caliber team.
- 12:21Who?
- 12:22I'm sorry.
- 12:23Commanders.
- 12:24Okay, yeah, commanders, yeah.
- 12:25Just, I mean, yeah.
- 12:28Because they really weren't that far off.
- 12:30I'm not sure if who's their quarterback, Sam Howell.
- 12:33I'm not sure if he's the answer.
- 12:34Well, that's the league in interceptions.
- 12:36But, so, might look at making a change there.
- 12:40But other than that, they really weren't that bad.
- 12:43Did they finish?
- 12:44Didn't they finish with like, no, they were bad.
- 12:48They were bad.
- 12:49They had like three or four wins.
- 12:50I was like, didn't they finish like seven wins?
- 12:51Maybe I'm thinking of a different year,
- 12:53but Chase Young year, LOL.
- 12:55They finished with four.
- 12:56They only fourth pick in the draft.
- 12:58Yeah, that's what made me think.
- 13:00I was like, no, they're higher than the Vikes in the draft.
- 13:02So I know.
- 13:03But anyway, sorry.
- 13:05But yeah, I thought it was interesting, too,
- 13:06that he brings Joe Witt with him.
- 13:07I think that's a really underrated, but a good move.
- 13:11Somebody that already knows Dan Quinn,
- 13:13obviously, closely at this point.
- 13:15And I believe, I just looked it up here,
- 13:18I believe this will be his first chance
- 13:20at being a defensive coordinator.
- 13:22So I think.
- 13:24Yeah, he was an assistant or maybe like an assistant
- 13:26to the secondary coach when he was with Green Bay
- 13:28and then went down to Dallas.
- 13:30I don't know when he went to Dallas,
- 13:31but he's been the secondary coach there.
- 13:33He was the cornerbacks coach for you guys for eight years.
- 13:37Yeah, man.
- 13:37That's crazy.
- 13:38Yeah, man.
- 13:39Charles Witson loved him.
- 13:40He's always given him his flowers.
- 13:42He's always given him his flowers.
- 13:44And then, it's good to see, I think Joe Witson,
- 13:46you might see as a potential head coach
- 13:48here in the next three, four years.
- 13:49You think so?
- 13:50I mean, it depends on what he can do with that team,
- 13:52but that Washington defense is loaded with young talent.
- 13:54It is.
- 13:55Now, they don't have Montez Sweatt
- 13:56and they don't have Chase Young.
- 13:56Those are two big pieces they're losing.
- 13:58They knew they were rebuilding.
- 13:59They still got Jonathan Allen, man.
- 14:01Yeah.
- 14:02And Doron Payne.
- 14:02They're fine.
- 14:03Oh yeah, Doron Payne, I love Doron.
- 14:05But yeah, we'll see what happens with them.
- 14:07Yeah.
- 14:08Well, let's move on then to some more drama.
- 14:10Cliff Kingsbury likes to be kind of in that drama there.
- 14:13He is now the offensive coordinator in Washington,
- 14:18joining Dan Quinn.
- 14:20But that's a surprise.
- 14:21Tell me a little bit more about that, Smelty.
- 14:23Yeah, I don't know.
- 14:24That threw me off because everybody was ready
- 14:26for Cliff to come back to the league
- 14:30in a coordinator role for the Raiders.
- 14:32But then, yeah, just all of a sudden,
- 14:35I don't know if it was a mutual thing
- 14:37that they decided not to or what,
- 14:39but all of a sudden, like,
- 14:40he just wasn't gonna be a part of the Raiders.
- 14:43And literally like two, three days later,
- 14:45now he's Washington's OC.
- 14:48Yeah, so it wasn't mutual at all.
- 14:49The Raiders wanted him.
- 14:50They thought they had him in their grabs.
- 14:52He backed out because so Adam Scheffler reported
- 14:55on the Pat McAfee show that it was a,
- 14:58like Kingsbury wanted, he wanted like a three year deal
- 15:01in Oakland or Vegas, I'm sorry,
- 15:03wasn't willing to give him that or something.
- 15:05It was a money thing too.
- 15:07And then Washington was.
- 15:09But this Washington team, man,
- 15:10with Kingsbury at the run in the offense,
- 15:12you got a defensive guy as your head coach
- 15:14who's I think gonna kind of bring a little bit more
- 15:17of that D'Amico-Ryans type energy.
- 15:19Maybe not as much, but he's more of that.
- 15:22And then he's gonna, I think he's gonna let Joe Witt
- 15:24run this defense.
- 15:25So I think this Washington team could be something, man.
- 15:28And with Cliff running the offense,
- 15:30I mean, do you think they try to, I mean, what?
- 15:33This was Sam Hall's second year.
- 15:34Do they try to fix him?
- 15:36No, no, no, no, no.
- 15:37No, no, no, no, not at number four?
- 15:40No, I'm just verifying that they have the fourth overall pick.
- 15:43Yeah, no, so they're up there.
- 15:46They have the second overall pick, I'm sorry.
- 15:47Oh snap.
- 15:48Yeah, I'm silly.
- 15:51So yeah, they had the same record,
- 15:52but strength of schedule comes into play.
- 15:53So Washington has the number two overall picks.
- 15:55Washington's gonna get their quarterback.
- 15:57They're gonna get their quarterback.
- 15:58They're gonna get Drake, McHale, Williams,
- 16:00Jaden, Daniels, whoever doesn't go one
- 16:01and they like between the other two.
- 16:03So we'll see what happens with that rook,
- 16:05but you're throwing to Terry McClaren,
- 16:07Jahan Dodson, D'Ami Brown.
- 16:09Yeah, they got some weapons.
- 16:11They got Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson
- 16:13in the backfield.
- 16:14They have some pieces on this team, man.
- 16:17And I mean, we saw what Cliff did with Kyla Murray
- 16:20in the early years.
- 16:21I wouldn't mind seeing Jaden Daniels
- 16:23run around with that Cliff Kangarri's offense, man.
- 16:26Do they take Jaden Daniels a two?
- 16:28I mean, I think it depends on who goes one.
- 16:29With Drake May and possibly Caleb Williams
- 16:31still on the board?
- 16:32I think Jaden gives you more of the Kyla ability
- 16:35than Drake May.
- 16:37Well, 100%.
- 16:38But Caleb gives you not as much of that,
- 16:40but more than Drake May gives you,
- 16:41but Caleb Williams gives you the overall arm talent.
- 16:43And I'm not trying to hate on Caleb,
- 16:44but he gives me bad vibes.
- 16:46Yeah, I don't like his attitude.
- 16:48This year wasn't as great, and it's just,
- 16:50I just, I don't know.
- 16:52He gives me bad vibes, bro.
- 16:54And the more I've watched Drake May's tape,
- 16:56I'm like, this dude's better than I thought.
- 16:59I wasn't sold on, and we're going on a tangent on prospects,
- 17:02which I'm sure we'll talk about at some point, but.
- 17:04Yeah, but Cliff Kingsbury did the Washington, man.
- 17:06That Washington team, those basketball guys
- 17:09are putting together pretty good coaching staff here.
- 17:12Right, right.
- 17:13But let's move on to my Packers.
- 17:16We didn't get Vrayable Smelty.
- 17:18Yeah, what the heck?
- 17:19What gives?
- 17:20He's still out there.
- 17:21We didn't get BB.
- 17:23We didn't get Wink.
- 17:24So who'd you get?
- 17:25We got the Boston College head coach, Jeff Halfley.
- 17:30That delay was because I had to look down and see.
- 17:34Oh boy.
- 17:34Do you know anything about old Jeff?
- 17:37So Jeff has a, he's had a pretty good defense
- 17:40when he did take over Boston College as the head coach.
- 17:43I've looked into him a little bit more
- 17:45after obviously the hire.
- 17:47It's growing on me.
- 17:49If he implements what he likes to do
- 17:51at the collegiate level, he plays a lot of man coverage.
- 17:55He plays a lot of press man coverage,
- 17:58and he likes to bring his safety down in the box.
- 18:00I love that for the Packers defense
- 18:02of what they have right now.
- 18:03You got Jair, you got Eric Stokes outside.
- 18:06They can handle their own on an island
- 18:07and play that man press, right?
- 18:09They have the back end speed ability
- 18:11if they do get beat to make up for it and recover.
- 18:15And his background is defensive backs coach.
- 18:18In the NFL, he has experience.
- 18:21Multiple years of experience, couple different teams.
- 18:26Yeah, low key move.
- 18:28I threw me off.
- 18:30I didn't know who the heck he was.
- 18:31I didn't either.
- 18:32I didn't even know his name was in the running
- 18:34to be honest with you.
- 18:35So I haven't heard it yet.
- 18:37Yeah, that's the thing is.
- 18:38So the rumors came out,
- 18:40reports came out that we offered,
- 18:41if I'm not mistaken, his name's Anthony Parker.
- 18:44He's the Broncos secondary coach
- 18:46that was in the runnings for a lot of DC positions.
- 18:49The reports came out that we offered the job to him.
- 18:51So he must've turned that down.
- 18:53I didn't see anything after the fact.
- 18:54And then boom, Jeff Halfley was hired.
- 18:57So I don't know.
- 18:58I like that he's young.
- 18:59We got a guy that's younger.
- 19:01He's not the Wink Martindale.
- 19:02I mean, Vrabel and BB, those were always a pipe dream.
- 19:04It was never gonna happen.
- 19:05That was me just-
- 19:06That was entertainment, right?
- 19:09So I like that he's young.
- 19:11I do.
- 19:12I think he's gonna bring some juice to the defense.
- 19:14It's a new face in there.
- 19:15Different team.
- 19:17We're gonna run more of a four-three now.
- 19:19We haven't had a four-three in a hot minute.
- 19:21I do also like that he was a co-definition coordinator
- 19:25at Ohio State recently.
- 19:27I didn't know that either.
- 19:30He more of a recruiter role,
- 19:31but he was still co-definition coordinator there.
- 19:33Hey, co-definition coordinator for Ohio State.
- 19:35I know those defenses are becoming more and more
- 19:37like NFL defenses every day.
- 19:39I mean-
- 19:40Yeah, and they're running pro-defense.
- 19:41They're running pro-defense.
- 19:42Right.
- 19:43So it's-
- 19:44I don't know.
- 19:46I'm not like shaking in my boots
- 19:49as a Vikings fan right now about your defense.
- 19:52I got my own problems to worry about, but like-
- 19:54Get your own defense to worry about.
- 19:55Don't worry about it.
- 19:56Brian Flores ain't going nowhere.
- 19:58He'll patch it up.
- 19:58The Neil Hunter will sign.
- 19:59Kirk Cousins won't.
- 20:00There'll be a whole thing.
- 20:02Don't get me going, but low-key higher to me.
- 20:05I didn't see it coming,
- 20:06and we'll just see how it pans out.
- 20:07Yeah, I mean, going to that four-three, I do like that.
- 20:09I like, I really like being able to see-
- 20:12What were you guys running last year?
- 20:13Three-four.
- 20:13We've had a three-four since Thob Capers, my guy.
- 20:15Now there's been some hybrids of that.
- 20:17You know, Mike Petten wasn't really a true three-four.
- 20:20Old buddy Joe Berry wasn't a true three-four.
- 20:22But our personnel, right?
- 20:24I like from a personnel standpoint,
- 20:26you get Lucas Van Ness and Rashawn Gary
- 20:28with the hand in the dirt on the outside.
- 20:31We're not going to ask Preston Smith
- 20:33to drop into coverage.
- 20:37So it's, from a linebacking standpoint,
- 20:39you got Devon Dre Campbell or Quay Walker in the middle,
- 20:42and the other one of those guys is the weak.
- 20:43It reminds me a little bit of that,
- 20:45like Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw.
- 20:47Not to that level, don't get me wrong.
- 20:49I'm not even going to start comparing that.
- 20:51But then you got the two corners on the outside
- 20:53that can play lockdown defense if 21 Stokes is on the field.
- 20:57We need help at safety.
- 20:59That has to be a focus in the offseason.
- 21:00I'd love to see a Gino Stone signing.
- 21:03But I just like what that sounds like.
- 21:06You got Kenny Clark and then 93.
- 21:09Shoot, TJ Slayton, he's a young guy, he's impressed.
- 21:12You got them on the inside, bro.
- 21:14I like that, I like that.
- 21:16I think it all starts with Rashawn Gary, though.
- 21:19I think it really does.
- 21:20I think he carries that defense right now.
- 21:22If he can give us a shed of dominant
- 21:27little Mac style play, I think that defense is scary.
- 21:32Because people forget about Van Ness.
- 21:35Well, he was a rookie and he didn't really do anything.
- 21:37And like everybody's going to, but he's not bad.
- 21:40But he was a rookie and he was a shadow to Preston Smith.
- 21:45Right, he didn't get the playing time.
- 21:47Oh, when he does, he'll be all right.
- 21:50I'm saying, bro.
- 21:51He'll be fine.
- 21:52So that's the thing, and you're learning
- 21:53from a Preston Smith and a Rashawn Gary
- 21:55and you have them on the other side.
- 21:56Or like just the potential of a Lucas Van Ness
- 22:01and Rashawn Gary for years to come.
- 22:03I love that.
- 22:04We have two edge rushers that have the potential
- 22:07to be dominant.
- 22:08We haven't had that since Clay Matthews
- 22:10and didn't really matter who you throw on the other side.
- 22:13It's going to be up to Jeff Heffley to
- 22:16bring it home.
- 22:17Jeff, bring it home, Jeff.
- 22:20All right, well, that's enough of my Packers here.
- 22:22We have my favorite segment of the WIG back with you
- 22:26this week.
- 22:28We're going to move on to your Bonehead move of the week
- 22:30presented by Smoutzy.
- 22:35Yeah, man, of course, another Bonehead.
- 22:37And this week it is Kaishan Butey.
- 22:41And I could have be saying that wrong.
- 22:43I don't know.
- 22:43I think he's actually from Louisiana.
- 22:45I don't have that draw on my voice.
- 22:48But moving on, there's betting allegations
- 22:50against this fella.
- 22:51He was actually arrested on computer fraud
- 22:53and gambling for persons under 21.
- 22:56So this included his time when he was at LSU.
- 22:59I believe he even bet on some games
- 23:01that he obviously had played in as well.
- 23:04Oh, did he ever.
- 23:06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:07So he placed, and this is my media play on it,
- 23:12nearly 9,000 bets.
- 23:14It's actually like 8,900.
- 23:16But nearly 9,000 bets were placed underage at LSU.
- 23:22And he continued on a little bit too into the NFL,
- 23:25which obviously, as we know, the NFL is a big no-no when
- 23:29it comes to gambling, specifically on sports.
- 23:34The only thing I want to know, this guy's an absolute moron.
- 23:39I was about to love what you were about to say.
- 23:42That was awesome.
- 23:42But good.
- 23:43Wow.
- 23:43Yeah, go on.
- 23:44This guy's an absolute moron.
- 23:46You just threw away a whole career of football
- 23:48for placing bets.
- 23:49So the only thing I want to know,
- 23:53how much did he win or lose?
- 23:55Is he up?
- 23:55Is he down?
- 23:56What is this?
- 23:58Because if he's not up, he threw away the potential
- 24:01to have millions of dollars because he's
- 24:04actively on the Patriots for ID to know
- 24:08what the results of this game were.
- 24:10I don't know how much he actually made on the betting.
- 24:12All I know is, allegedly, he was doing pretty well.
- 24:16Let's see, over two years, about $637,000
- 24:20was wagered from the account with $556,001.
- 24:25So it sounds like he did not.
- 24:27I mean, he's doing all right.
- 24:28Yeah.
- 24:31But it's like, also, I mean, at the point
- 24:32of where college football is, so he
- 24:34was in college from 2020 to 2022.
- 24:38You got the NIL coming into effect, I believe, in 2022,
- 24:41if I'm not mistaken.
- 24:43You could have made money just being,
- 24:45because he was the top receiver at LSU
- 24:48after Jamar and Justin left.
- 24:50Right, right.
- 24:51Like, there's no reason.
- 24:52Bro, what are you doing?
- 24:54It only says here, for that year span, April 22 to May 23,
- 24:58that only 17 of the bets were on college football games.
- 25:02And six involved LSU football.
- 25:04So what the F were the other 8,000 bets on?
- 25:08He's probably been on NFL games.
- 25:11Bro, I don't even know.
- 25:13That's just crazy.
- 25:14It's just insane that somebody would just
- 25:16throw away their whole career for this.
- 25:18Thanks to Kev, obviously.
- 25:21According to the, I don't know, whose article is this here?
- 25:27Athletic.
- 25:27Oh, of course it's the athletic.
- 25:28Kev loves the athletic, for those who don't know.
- 25:30According to the affidavit, Butte bet 450,000 in 2022
- 25:36and lost 65,000 that year.
- 25:39Booty.
- 25:40In 2023, he bet 186,000 and lost 16,000.
- 25:45Booty.
- 25:47What's he doing, bro?
- 25:49Is he listening to our podcast?
- 25:52You would think.
- 25:53You would think.
- 25:54So yeah, I mean, easy bonehead of the week.
- 25:59It was probably more like a week and a half ago,
- 26:01but it kind of overlapped with another bonehead.
- 26:03But oh, man, that's clown behavior.
- 26:08Absolute clown man.
- 26:09I mean, it sucks that this dude's going to jail.
- 26:12Like, you can for like underage betting, like gambling,
- 26:16like, all right.
- 26:17I mean, I guess I don't know if he's going to jail,
- 26:19but I think it's.
- 26:20What are you in for?
- 26:218,900 bets.
- 26:24You know what I mean?
- 26:27Oh, that's funny.
- 26:28Yeah, that's pretty wild.
- 26:29Yeah, dude.
- 26:30It's like, I don't know if that should be the case.
- 26:32But I mean, hopefully he turns it around.
- 26:34At the end of the day, gambling is an addiction.
- 26:36Call 1-8-1.
- 26:38I mean, no, he's not trying to joke about that.
- 26:41It is.
- 26:42And I'm not trying to sound like a good idiot.
- 26:44Call 1-800-Gambling if you have any.
- 26:46Yeah, we're saying you should not be a bonehead
- 26:49and end up like Kayshon Butey.
- 26:53Gamble responsibly, at least.
- 26:54Like, don't gamble your career.
- 26:56And this dude just gambled his career,
- 26:57and it's probably down the drain now.
- 26:59You know the rules.
- 27:00Under 21, that's a major issue.
- 27:03And then you obviously, you just have
- 27:05to know that it's probably a pretty big negative
- 27:09to be betting on the team you play for at the same time.
- 27:13But yeah, I got nothing.
- 27:17I got nothing.
- 27:18Yeah, let's just move on from this absolute bonehead.
- 27:23All right, now we're going to pop into some lightning round
- 27:25NFL award predictions.
- 27:27We're going to say who we think is actually
- 27:29going to win the award.
- 27:31And then we're going to recap that with who we think really
- 27:33should win the award.
- 27:35And we're going to start off with the biggest award of them
- 27:37all, the MVP.
- 27:39We got Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Christian McCaffrey,
- 27:43Dak Prescott, and Brock Purdy.
- 27:46Smelty, who should win this award, in your opinion?
- 27:49Lamar Jackson.
- 27:50Why is that?
- 27:51Just all year.
- 27:52He's shown all year he's the most valuable player, not only
- 27:55to his team, but in the league.
- 27:58Yes, they came up short in the playoffs,
- 28:00but it was more than just him.
- 28:02It should be Lamar Jackson.
- 28:04I'm in a disagreement with you there.
- 28:07I think this should be Christian McCaffrey.
- 28:09What he's done for that offense in San Fran,
- 28:12I think he's way more vital to that team than Brock Purdy.
- 28:15Brock Purdy might be deserving of being in this conversation,
- 28:19but I would take him fourth.
- 28:22I'd take him fifth out of everybody on this list.
- 28:24Oh, you'd put Dak above Brock?
- 28:25Yeah, I would put him.
- 28:27But who do you think is actually going to win it this year?
- 28:30Lamar Jackson.
- 28:31I'm in agreement with you, too.
- 28:32This is his award to lose.
- 28:33So this one's pretty easy.
- 28:35MVP Lamar, I think is going to win it.
- 28:38I don't think he should.
- 28:39Smelty's on board with who he should and think will win it.
- 28:43We're going to pop over on the offensive side of the ball.
- 28:45We have Offensive Player of the Year.
- 28:47We have Tyreek Hill, Lamar Jackson, CD Lam, Christian
- 28:51McCaffrey, and Dak Prescott.
- 28:53I'll start us off with this one.
- 28:55I mean, this is the same thing for MVP in my opinion.
- 28:58I think Christian McCaffrey should win this award.
- 29:02How about you?
- 29:03I think if McCaffrey were to win MVP, I would like to think that Tyreek actually gets this
- 29:10award.
- 29:11However, if Lamar Jackson gets MVP, like yours truly stated, that Christian McCaffrey, I
- 29:17would also agree, would get Offensive Player of the Year.
- 29:20There's no doubt what he's done this year and what he's capable of in the receiving
- 29:24game as well.
- 29:25Yeah, for sure.
- 29:26He's an absolute dual threat.
- 29:27I think Tyreek is going to win it.
- 29:30Just because with McCaffrey in the MVP discussion, I think that hurts him.
- 29:34I don't think he's going to win it in the MVP.
- 29:36I think he's going to finish third or fourth, to be honest with you.
- 29:38I don't think that's deserving, obviously.
- 29:40I just said that.
- 29:41But I think this is Tyreek's award to lose this year.
- 29:44We're going to pop over to the defensive side of the ball.
- 29:48We have a cornerback, surprisingly, in Doron Bland.
- 29:51And we have Max Crosby, Miles Garrett, Micah Parsons, TJ Watt.
- 29:55Oh my, that are some edge rushers.
- 29:58Who do you think is going to win this or who should win this one?
- 30:04I really want to go with TJ Watt, mainly because of, I mean, he's a beast.
- 30:11He leads sacks all the time.
- 30:13However, the dude can't stay on the field.
- 30:16So I think that hurts it for him.
- 30:18So I think who should win it this year?
- 30:22It's hard to argue against Max Crosby right now.
- 30:26But I think TJ will probably win it.
- 30:29I'm with you.
- 30:30I think TJ should win this award.
- 30:31I really do.
- 30:32I mean, the injuries, yeah, it sucks, but he put up gaudy numbers.
- 30:36Even with the injuries.
- 30:37With missing games.
- 30:39So this is TJ's award.
- 30:40His brother couldn't even do that.
- 30:41No, no.
- 30:42And well, that's a hot take.
- 30:44Whoa.
- 30:45So I think this is TJ's award to lose.
- 30:55And I do think he's going to come home with it.
- 30:58I like Daron Bland being in the conversation, though.
- 31:00He deserved to be in the conversation.
- 31:02100%.
- 31:03It's nice to see a corner in the conversation.
- 31:05Yeah, for sure.
- 31:06For sure.
- 31:07Now we're going to pop over to offensive rookie of the year.
- 31:10This one I think is going to be one that's going to be debated among a lot of people.
- 31:13But we have Jamar Gibbs, Sam Laporta, two Lions in there, Puka Nakua, Bajon Robinson
- 31:20and CJ Stroud.
- 31:22I think there's two people that should not be in this finalist, but who do you think
- 31:25is going to win this one, man?
- 31:27For me, it's a four way tie for first to be to be quite frank.
- 31:31And the one left out is Bajon, just because he just too slow of a start to the year.
- 31:37But he got it together.
- 31:38I think he's going to have a great year too.
- 31:42CJ with the injury sucks.
- 31:44I think that hurts him.
- 31:45I think he could still win it with the injury.
- 31:48Puka Nakua with his records and all that crap.
- 31:51Sam Laporta was obviously big down the stretch.
- 31:54You saw it.
- 31:55He was more consistent every week.
- 31:56So I would maybe Sam Laporta before for me and then Jamir Gibbs.
- 32:00I mean, it's between Gibbs and Nakua for me.
- 32:03I think Nakua will win it because of records.
- 32:06But I think Gibbs would also deserve it.
- 32:09So I'm a little bit off base with you here.
- 32:11I don't think Gibbs and Bajon Robinson are deserving to be in this class with the other
- 32:15three.
- 32:17I think this award should go to Puka Nakua.
- 32:20He broke records and yeah, he didn't have Cooper Cup, but he had Cooper Cup over half
- 32:24the year and when Cooper came back, Puka didn't slow down.
- 32:27But that's just it.
- 32:28He didn't have Cooper Cup half the year, like you said.
- 32:30So once those first couple of games came in, teams are like, oh snap, we got to cover this,
- 32:35whoever the hell this Puka guy is.
- 32:37And then he still did it.
- 32:38So right.
- 32:40I really think this this should be a blow away Puka Nakua winning this.
- 32:45I'm going to guess your number two.
- 32:46But I think that CJ Stroud will win it.
- 32:49And it's really hard to argue against it.
- 32:52It's a quarterback league.
- 32:54And the thing about it is the Rams are two years away from being Super Bowl champions.
- 33:00The Texans have never been to an AFC championship game.
- 33:04Maybe maybe they went to one or two in the you know, JJ Watts prime.
- 33:09But what CJ did to turn this team around, you can't argue against and his overall just
- 33:15dominance of what he did and his importance when he was on the field is just it's a quarterback
- 33:20league.
- 33:21And that's why I think he will win.
- 33:22But I think the award should go to Puka.
- 33:24Fair enough.
- 33:25Now we're going to switch over to defensive rookie of the year.
- 33:28This one, it's really a toss up.
- 33:30In my opinion, we got Will Anderson, Jalen Carter, Joey Porter Jr., Kobe Turner and Devon
- 33:37Witherspoon.
- 33:38Again, like for me, for me again, this is like a five way tie, like to be honest, like
- 33:45maybe I don't know.
- 33:49It's hard to argue what Will Anderson's done.
- 33:51He's probably had a better year than Jalen Carter that Philly defense didn't really do
- 33:55too much this year.
- 33:56But I like what Witherspoon did in Seattle this year as well.
- 33:59What Porter did and put like it's, I don't know, if I had to go with anybody.
- 34:05And it's probably like the easiest pick, but Will Anderson, I guess.
- 34:10But you know, I think it's pretty close for defense rookie there.
- 34:13I'm curious who will end up getting it.
- 34:15Yeah, I'm really curious on this one, too.
- 34:17I think Will Anderson will win it just because he was, you know, number one overall or number
- 34:22two overall pick.
- 34:23You know, so he has the that that prestigiousness per se to know he was number one and then
- 34:27CJ was too funny.
- 34:28Almost almost sounds right.
- 34:29That's uncool.
- 34:30Regardless, wanting to.
- 34:31He's got the prestigious top five pick tag next to him for the rest of his career.
- 34:37Exactly.
- 34:38And he dominated.
- 34:39Trevor Lawrence is still starting.
- 34:40You know, yeah, right.
- 34:41So and he did dominate, you know, so like, you can't take it away from him.
- 34:44But I think Devon Witherspoon should win this award.
- 34:48He had such a good year.
- 34:50And the other thing is he had Tariq Wolin on the other side.
- 34:53So it's not like they were just, you know, letting the ball not go to Devon.
- 34:56They were still, you know, they had to balance between the two.
- 34:59Who are you going to throw at?
- 35:00And he more than stood his own.
- 35:02So I was really impressed with Devon Witherspoon and what Mike McDonald's going to be able
- 35:07to do with that defense is just crazy.
- 35:11This one is a topic of discussion because of.
- 35:16Well, to put it bluntly, somebody died and came back to life.
- 35:22So we have come back player of the year.
- 35:24This is really between I mean, you can make an argument for three, but in reality, two
- 35:28people in my opinion.
- 35:30We have Joe Flacco, DeMar Hamlin, Baker Mayfield, Matthew Stafford and Tua Tua of the Miami
- 35:38Dolphins.
- 35:39I mean, Tua had a great year.
- 35:41He did great.
- 35:42I would say a great comeback year, but he's not in this conversation.
- 35:45Neither is Matt Stafford, in my opinion.
- 35:49The thing about DeMar Hamlin.
- 35:51Yes, the dude died on the field, came back to play in the NFL at a high level.
- 35:56No, he doesn't start or anything like that.
- 35:58But like he came back and he's on it.
- 36:01He's still on the team.
- 36:02You know, I mean, it wasn't an actor for minority of the game.
- 36:04Nobody's going to cut him at this point, right?
- 36:07You know what I mean?
- 36:08At least not the Bills.
- 36:09So but if we're talking about a true comeback player of the year, like you didn't think
- 36:14they're going to do anything this year and ended up doing something.
- 36:17I mean, it's between Joe Flacco and Baker Mayfield for me.
- 36:20And for me, it's it's Joe Flacco just being able to come literally off the couch at his
- 36:26age and help the Browns get to the playoffs when they were not.
- 36:30They were struggling.
- 36:31That offense was struggling.
- 36:33And he comes in and takes him to the playoffs.
- 36:35Yes, with the defensive help, but comes in and takes him to the playoffs.
- 36:39For me, it's hard to argue against Joe Flacco.
- 36:42I'm 100 percent with you.
- 36:43I mean, who I who's going to win this award?
- 36:45It's not even who will win it.
- 36:46He is going to win it.
- 36:47That's DeMar Hamlin.
- 36:50I don't what not much more needs to be said about that.
- 36:53I mean, he was inactive for a lot of the games this year.
- 36:55Like, yeah, and we're not taking anything away.
- 36:57He deserves an NFL roster spot 100 percent.
- 36:59But it's just it's it's an unfortunate thing of what happened to him.
- 37:04And at the end of the day, regardless of if he gets this award or not, he won life.
- 37:09Right.
- 37:10Like, like he's still living after being being being dead, literally dead.
- 37:15You know, so but this award to me is really between Joe Flacco and Baker Mayfield.
- 37:19Nobody expected much out of the Bucks.
- 37:20Granted, one of the worst divisions in football.
- 37:22They didn't really have to do much to be successful.
- 37:25But also want to play off game against the defending Super Bowl partaker in the Eagles.
- 37:30Right.
- 37:31And they dominated them.
- 37:32I don't know why.
- 37:33That's awesome.
- 37:34Defending Super Bowl partaker.
- 37:35I don't know why.
- 37:36I cannot think of who the loser of the Super Bowl is.
- 37:39But that's what the Eagles were.
- 37:40And but but Joe Flacco, what he did to that Browns team, their offense was in just absolute
- 37:44just shambles, shambles, right.
- 37:47They were just terrible.
- 37:48He took the team.
- 37:49He he put them on their back.
- 37:50And yeah, they had a great defense.
- 37:51But he was also making plays.
- 37:53He threw for over 300 yards, the majority of the time through some picks.
- 37:56Yeah.
- 37:57But he also threw the tugs.
- 37:58Right.
- 37:59So I think this award should go to Joe Flacco.
- 38:00But Baker definitely put his name in there, man.
- 38:03He definitely played more than he exceeded expectations.
- 38:08So we're going to have our second to last award here.
- 38:11The coach of the year.
- 38:13This one is really, really going to be a big.
- 38:19A lot of people should and can win this award.
- 38:22We have Dan Campbell, John Harbaugh, D'Amico Ryan's, Kyan, Kyle Shanahan and Kevin Stefanski.
- 38:30I'll lead us off on this one.
- 38:32This one smellsy.
- 38:33I think this award will be one and should go to Dan Campbell.
- 38:38They had expectations of being, you know, good this year.
- 38:41They were favored to be the number one like team in the NFC North as they should have
- 38:45been.
- 38:46But what he's done to this team, what he means to this team, how he's bought into the city,
- 38:50the ownership, what it's like football means.
- 38:53It's just no better locker room guy in the league than Dan Campbell.
- 38:56D'Amico Ryan's very close second.
- 38:58Yeah, I agree with the locker room bit on Dan Campbell.
- 39:02We know what John Harbaugh gave us.
- 39:04And it's crazy to think that he's really not in the conversation truly, even though what
- 39:09his team did was outstanding this year.
- 39:11But he's not in the conversation.
- 39:12And the same can be said about Kyle Shanahan.
- 39:15Like what he did this year is insane, but he's not in that conversation either.
- 39:19Those were expectations that they had to make and succeed at and they did.
- 39:24Cool.
- 39:25The guys like Kevin Stefanski, who lost his starting quarterback, had to go to two or
- 39:30three different quarterbacks.
- 39:31Now Joe Flacco off the couch, still somehow kept the defense together.
- 39:34There's some to be said about that.
- 39:36Easy third.
- 39:38But it is between Dan Campbell and D'Amico Ryan's for me as well.
- 39:40And it's hard.
- 39:41I totally, I'm 100% with you.
- 39:45I agree with everything you said about Dan Campbell.
- 39:47But I just, I don't know if I can pick one between these two.
- 39:50To be fun, I'm going to pick D'Amico Ryan's.
- 39:54But I mean, the dude had a great season.
- 39:56I mean, to take that Texan scene like you already mentioned that hasn't been to an AFC
- 40:00Championship win, who knows God win, if ever.
- 40:02Because what?
- 40:03They've been in league since 02?
- 40:04Something like that.
- 40:06But like, it's hard to argue against D'Amico Ryan's.
- 40:10And you lose C.J.
- 40:12Stroud, who you've now started to lean on.
- 40:15And you still get by and get into the playoffs.
- 40:18And not only get into the playoffs, but you almost look like you could have won it.
- 40:23At least one game.
- 40:26To me, this is a 1A, 1B award.
- 40:28And I don't know who I could put at A or B, if it matters.
- 40:31I'll be more than happy with either of these two coaches winning it.
- 40:34What D'Amico did with literally the worst team in the league last year.
- 40:37There's a reason you got the number one pick.
- 40:39You just so happened to trade DeAndre Hopkins and get the number two pick.
- 40:43No matter who wins, I'll be happy for who won.
- 40:46And I'll be happy who get or I'll be feel bad for who got second, no matter the order.
- 40:50Like it's just, yeah, tough.
- 40:52That's a toss up.
- 40:54I'm 100% with you, brother.
- 40:55I'm 100% with you.
- 40:57And before we get to the granddaddy of them all, we have our own special award this year.
- 41:03It's I would like to say long awaited, but nobody knew it was coming.
- 41:08We have Smelty's Bonehead of the year.
- 41:13And we don't even, and this is just going straight off the dome.
- 41:17Like I don't even, that was, oh gosh, who says that?
- 41:20There's a guy on YouTube, what's his name, that like raps and he always says straight
- 41:24off the dome.
- 41:25He's super good.
- 41:26You got to check him out.
- 41:27Anyway.
- 41:28Only I knew his name.
- 41:29No doubt, right?
- 41:30I'll have to, I'll have to get you that.
- 41:40But anyway, yeah, Bonehead of the year.
- 41:42And again, without the list in front of me, I think it's pretty easy because we had a
- 41:47two time Bonehead this year.
- 41:50For me, it's Mr. Tepper of the Carolina Panthers.
- 41:56Easy because he was two time Bonehead, but also just the whole drink throwing thing was
- 42:01just such a, such a BS move from a guy that's like has everything and he's got to throw
- 42:07his drink on something because he's like, you know, disappointed with whatever the heck
- 42:10they're saying at him.
- 42:12And then the firing, it's just the whole thing, dude.
- 42:14Like he's patient, but he's not, it's just everything.
- 42:18If you remember and listened, if you didn't go back and check out some of our older episodes
- 42:23and find the David Tepper Boneheads, but that's, that's my Bonehead of the year.
- 42:29It's your award, brother.
- 42:30This is your time to shine.
- 42:31I can't disagree with a billionaire through a drink at a civilian.
- 42:35Yeah.
- 42:36It's totally uncalled for.
- 42:38So you have it here, David Tepper Bonehead of the year.
- 42:41If I could just throw an honorary mention in there, I'm going to have to go with Mike
- 42:45Thomas throwing the brick at the car.
- 42:46Oh yeah.
- 42:47That's right.
- 42:48Yeah.
- 42:49That was pretty bad too.
- 42:50That's a, yeah, I like it.
- 42:53Mike Thomas, honorable mention Bonehead of the year.
- 42:55Well, that's all we got for the awards this week.
- 42:58We're going to move into the granddaddy of them all.
- 43:01The biggest game of the year we have Super Bowl 58.
- 43:12Well Smolci let's get into it, man.
- 43:14Super Bowl 58.
- 43:15We have the Kansas city chiefs taking on the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.
- 43:23I mean, I guess I'm going to tell you that it's not the Super Bowl I wanted, but this
- 43:29is the Super Bowl we're given.
- 43:31So yeah, I mean, if so that the thing is, if the 49ers win, they're now tied with the
- 43:37Steelers and the Patriots with six championships a piece.
- 43:41I didn't know that.
- 43:42I didn't know they were that close.
- 43:43I knew they had a bunch from like the Joe Montana stuff and Jerry Rice and crap, but
- 43:47I didn't know they were that close.
- 43:50So that would put the Niners into elite franchise, one could say.
- 43:56Absolutely.
- 43:57I was not aware of that either.
- 43:59Good for the Niners.
- 44:00Anyway, screw the Niners.
- 44:03But yeah, no bias.
- 44:06So I also have one more thing to throw at you.
- 44:09The whole white jersey conspiracy deal, whatever for the Super Bowl.
- 44:15How if you wear the white jersey of a better chance to win the Super Bowl.
- 44:19Well that's actually true.
- 44:20So in the 57 Super Bowls, white jerseys are 37 and 20.
- 44:25That's a big number.
- 44:27That's actually quite a difference.
- 44:29So who's wearing white?
- 44:31I don't know.
- 44:32How are you going to have?
- 44:34I think it's actually the I think it was the Chiefs, but I could be wrong.
- 44:38I'm probably wrong.
- 44:39Don't worry, Kev's on it.
- 44:41I was going to look it up and then totally blanked on it.
- 44:43So the Niners are wearing white.
- 44:46Well, Niners are going to wear white.
- 44:49Then I guess white jerseys will be 37 and 21.
- 44:54Oh, so we have a prediction out of Mr. Smelty.
- 44:59So we didn't get into this, but the Chiefs are actually a two and a half point underdog
- 45:05in this game.
- 45:06The Niners come in as the two and a half point favorite.
- 45:08I Chiefs, do you think Patty Mahomes is getting his third day?
- 45:14I mean, after this playoff run, absolutely.
- 45:17I don't I don't think there's anything that's getting the Chiefs way, but specifically Patrick
- 45:20Mahomes.
- 45:21He's shown you time and time again every week.
- 45:23This playoffs is Patrick playoff magic.
- 45:28I hate it.
- 45:30Like he's almost so good that I hate him.
- 45:32It's the same thing as Tom Brady.
- 45:33It's the same thing as Brett Favre.
- 45:35But I love Brett Favre when he came to the Vikings.
- 45:37But I'm just saying it's the same thing with Aaron Rodgers.
- 45:39Like he was so good that I disliked him, you know, and that's where I'm at with Mahomes.
- 45:43But like I can respect how good he is.
- 45:45And it is he's a I hate to even say this.
- 45:49He's just a spectacle to watch play football.
- 45:54So I agree with everything you just said outside of obviously the far Vin Rogers, except for
- 45:59what you did say about him with the Vikings.
- 46:01Definitely disagree with that because that's just silly.
- 46:04But that's Vikings you've had in a while, though, so you can thank a Packer.
- 46:08Bounty Gate.
- 46:09Yeah.
- 46:10Anyway, thank a pet.
- 46:11Thank your local packer.
- 46:12Thank your local packer.
- 46:13Too many of them in Minnesota.
- 46:15I disagree, though.
- 46:16I think the Niners are going to cover that two and a half.
- 46:17And I think the Niners are going to win this game by seven.
- 46:20By seven.
- 46:21I do, man.
- 46:22I do.
- 46:23I think this Niners defense is going to show up when they need to.
- 46:25Most are going to get pressure on Mahomes and not allow them to make the spectacular
- 46:31plays per se.
- 46:32You know, it's the also the the the other thing here that is the driving force behind
- 46:37this is I don't think the Chiefs can stop Christian McCaffrey in this Niners run game.
- 46:41So I mean that and that's one of our points, right?
- 46:45Is McCaffrey verse the Kansas City defense as a whole, whether it's McCaffrey running
- 46:50or McCaffrey receiving, the dude is can do it all.
- 46:54But I just I don't I think we're going to see too many mistakes out of Brock Purdy in
- 47:00the Super Bowl.
- 47:01I just I don't know.
- 47:03Now if he goes on and wins and has a great game, whatever he could go.
- 47:07I don't know.
- 47:08Seventeen for twenty one throw for two twenty two and two tuds and like that's a lot of
- 47:13twos.
- 47:14I don't know.
- 47:15I don't know what's going on with that.
- 47:16But like like if he did that, that's cool.
- 47:19Like, all right, I got to give I got to give pretty as flowers.
- 47:22I'm just not ready.
- 47:23And I don't know why.
- 47:24I don't know what else he has to prove to me.
- 47:26Obviously he has to go win the Super Bowl for me to like for that to happen.
- 47:30But I don't know, Mr. Relevance gonna we'll see.
- 47:34But anyway, back on McCaffrey, like he is the main the main tool that the 49ers need
- 47:40to use to try to break that defense.
- 47:43And I just think that you give McCaffrey two weeks of rest.
- 47:47You give him fresh legs.
- 47:49The Niners, they just they're so good schematically running the ball.
- 47:54It's not all inside zone.
- 47:56It's not outside stretch.
- 47:57They can do everything, whatever.
- 47:59And then throw Debo in there and then you throw Debo in there.
- 48:01You throw McCaffrey out in the slot or you have McCaffrey run a Texas run.
- 48:05You play action to Kittle.
- 48:06And it's just now you got Brandon, are you going down the seam?
- 48:09And it's just like it's just it's hard to stop.
- 48:11It is it is.
- 48:12It all starts with McCaffrey.
- 48:15It does.
- 48:16It really does start and kind of end with McCaffrey, right?
- 48:20If McCaffrey has one hundred twenty five all scrimmage yards, that's tough to win.
- 48:24Touchdowns this game.
- 48:26It's over.
- 48:27Probably the Niners win this game unless if Purdy has a Ravens like performance.
- 48:31Right.
- 48:32I don't see Purdy doing that because I don't see Shanahan giving him the opportunity to
- 48:38do so.
- 48:39I think this is finally the time that Shanahan gets his redemption in the Super Bowl.
- 48:43You you love Shanahan, don't you?
- 48:46I don't know throughout the season, but like you respect.
- 48:49His scheme and how he does things from an offensive mind, I think he's one of the biggest
- 48:55offensive geniuses the NFL has ever seen.
- 48:58OK, sure.
- 49:01And that's in large part credit to do it with his father, who was also sure.
- 49:07You know, but he's still he's a person.
- 49:09He's a tree of his dad.
- 49:11He took like his dad system and made it his own, and now it's the NFL.
- 49:16It's like the McVeigh Shanahan.
- 49:18They're very, very, very similar in their coaching systems.
- 49:21But that's only on the offensive side of the ball.
- 49:23Right.
- 49:24That's where this Niners defense is going to be revved up.
- 49:27And I think they're going to get pressure on my homes and make him throw the ball in
- 49:32spots where he doesn't want to and make some of those homes try to be spectacular plays.
- 49:37And the Niners defense doesn't allow it and ends up picking the ball off or getting that
- 49:41timely deflection.
- 49:43And that leads to our biggest point second or second biggest point here.
- 49:46The biggest chiefs point here.
- 49:48I'm sorry, the biggest Niners point here and stopping the Chiefs is not allowing Kelsey
- 49:52to sit in those zones, find the openings and him and Travis or him and my homes have the
- 49:57exact same mind.
- 49:58They know exactly where those three or four option routes at the end of that route come
- 50:01to.
- 50:02They know exactly where they're going and putting the ball there.
- 50:06Brad Warner and Dre Greenlaw are going to have to play the games of their lives.
- 50:09I mean, and that's just it, right?
- 50:11Like you've seen it all playoffs and now you're in the Super Bowl.
- 50:14Now and now you're looking you're like, do we if you're San Francisco defense, you're
- 50:19like, do we have to play some sort of tight end spy with a man over top or something like
- 50:28because he Kelsey continually finds those spots in the zone where there's nobody he
- 50:33knows where the soft spots are and he just sits there and waits and my homes finds him.
- 50:37It's kind of hard not to see the guy, but like he just he finds the soft spot every
- 50:42time.
- 50:43So that's why it's a key for for the banner crew here is that like San Francisco needs
- 50:48to shut that down.
- 50:50They do and that's going to be that's going to be they need to tie.
- 50:53I just think they need to bring pressure to while they're also shutting that down.
- 50:57You need to get my homes.
- 50:58Now my homes is good outside the pocket, but collapse the pocket before even has a chance.
- 51:02You got to suffocate my homes his pocket to have a chance this game.
- 51:06You do and that's where like as much as it's stopping Travis Kelsey, I think one of the
- 51:11other biggest keys here for this Niners defense is how impactful are Chase Young and Nick
- 51:16Bosa going to be off the edge.
- 51:18They haven't really done it this playoffs man.
- 51:21Jordan Love wasn't under pressure.
- 51:23Jared Goff wasn't under a lot of pressure.
- 51:26Do you believe the rumblings that Chase Young isn't going to start because of his lack of
- 51:31effort?
- 51:32I mean, I don't see I mean you have to do what's best for the team at this point and
- 51:36obviously he's not giving you the production you hope for and trading for him.
- 51:39I mean, especially in the most crucial part of the year where you would like to think
- 51:43he can put that aside to go and try to ring chain not ring chase but win a Super Bowl
- 51:47because when he puts in 100% effort on a play.
- 51:50But he's so fast with his hands.
- 51:53He sold I don't understand like he could be such a better player, but you do see it.
- 51:59He takes plays off.
- 52:00And in the Super Bowl, you can't it's not an option.
- 52:03You can't have it.
- 52:04Yeah, I could see him playing more of a third down roll, you know, coming in and passing
- 52:08situations where you're going to get some pressure on the quarterback.
- 52:11But he's turning into a liability on first and second down.
- 52:13Do you think maybe he sees it's a rush?
- 52:15It's like at the line already.
- 52:16He's like, I'm done.
- 52:17I should look I'm curious because I didn't I know he takes some plays off but I wonder
- 52:21if they're mainly run plays and he likes you know, goes all out on a pass rush when he
- 52:26knows he's, you know, got a chance to get in there but if he's like got no chance like
- 52:30Yeah, maybe.
- 52:31I don't know.
- 52:32I mean, I haven't looked into it enough.
- 52:33I just heard it this week and I was like, that's kind of that's kind of random.
- 52:36Like, I would I would absolutely be starting chase young on Madden.
- 52:40But I guess you know, obviously in real life, if he's not given effort, you can't send him
- 52:45out there.
- 52:46Yeah, you can't have any sort of liability going into a Super Bowl man and and you would
- 52:50hope to think maybe the Niners even PR leaked a little bit of that to maybe give him some
- 52:54internal motivation and prove these guys wrong and go play the best game of his life.
- 52:58You can see that it's a Super Bowl man, you're going to do whatever it takes to get any edge
- 53:02you can get.
- 53:03That's what you would hope.
- 53:04That's what you would hope.
- 53:05But they they need if they can get Bosa and young to like I said, suffocate that pocket
- 53:10immediately.
- 53:11Now you got my homes kind of now you got him thinking rather than just doing if my homes
- 53:16has to think it's with any quarterback really but if you get him to think like now he's
- 53:21now he's gonna make mistakes.
- 53:23He's gonna go out there and do what he knows how to do.
- 53:26This is his job is like he's one of the best to do it right now that we're seeing.
- 53:31He's probably the best in the game today right now at the quarterback position.
- 53:34I don't think that's debatable, you know, so and he's now playing for another Super Bowl.
- 53:40So I just you got to get him to think it's not only thinking you have to put my homes
- 53:45in a reactionary state of mind, right?
- 53:47He has to like you got to get him to react to what's going on.
- 53:50Now that's where his greatness comes out and that's all you see and then he highlights
- 53:54a recap so you don't see the same situation where he throws a ball where he shouldn't
- 53:57have and it gets picked or he gets away with not putting the ball where he needs to be
- 54:01right.
- 54:02But that could be a key third down.
- 54:05You know you have to you have to get my homes like you said thinking get him in a reactionary
- 54:10state of mind and just don't allow Travis Kelsey to eat.
- 54:16Shut him down on the red zone put two people on him.
- 54:18And on and on the other side of that like you you know, San Francisco is going to be
- 54:23keen on Kelsey.
- 54:25You got to establish Pacheco early early early early you got to have Pacheco early so you
- 54:30can open up Kelsey because you know they're going to watch him.
- 54:33You know they're already looking at him.
- 54:35So you got to get Pacheco going.
- 54:37And that's where you know Dre Greenlaw and Fred Warner going to come into play shutting
- 54:41down that inside run and Javon Hargrave.
- 54:43They paid him a lot of money.
- 54:44He has to prove his worth today this week.
- 54:46Yeah, no doubt.
- 54:48And it's hard for for Greenlaw and Warner.
- 54:51It's hard for a middle linebacker because you got to look out for a runner back that's
- 54:55like Pacheco who may be on the smaller side but he doesn't run like that at all.
- 54:59So you gotta be ready for that.
- 55:01But then you got to be ready for Kelsey to sneak right behind you while you're paying
- 55:04attention to Pacheco.
- 55:05Like it's a hard position to play.
- 55:07And those are two of the best guys to be doing it right now as well.
- 55:10So that's what the Niners have going for them.
- 55:13But it's going to be a great game.
- 55:15It really is going to be a great game.
- 55:16You know, it might not be who everybody wanted to see in the Super Bowl.
- 55:20But at the end of the day, you know, you can make a strong argument.
- 55:25You have the two best teams in football playing for the Super Bowl.
- 55:29Now the Ravens versus Chiefs that that argument could be made, but they didn't show up when
- 55:33they needed to.
- 55:36And that's just it.
- 55:37And that's why I have to go with the Chiefs.
- 55:39Yeah.
- 55:40And it's hard to argue against it.
- 55:41I don't love two and a half.
- 55:42This game opened as a one and a half point spread.
- 55:44I'd like it a lot more.
- 55:45One and a half, which is crazy that it went up another point for the 49ers favor.
- 55:51These playoff spreads, bro.
- 55:53It's just playoff spreads are just wild this year.
- 55:55Yeah, I don't I don't quite get that book.
- 55:57No, it's not.
- 55:58Yeah, I dude, I don't know script.
- 56:00That's not going to that.
- 56:03That's not going to that.
- 56:04But we're all we're super excited, man.
- 56:07We got the Super Bowl coming.
- 56:09It wraps up the NFL season and then we get into that draft talk a little bit, see what
- 56:13the future's ahead for our franchises who aren't happen to be playing this week.
- 56:17Well, yeah, we well we got to get to the draft talk so we know the Packers demise for the
- 56:22next 10 years.
- 56:24You know, just so we know, it's interesting that you know, number 10 there as in the next
- 56:2910 years of greatness from the number 10 wearer.
- 56:33That's really unfortunate.
- 56:3411 next 11 years of the Packers.
- 56:37Oh, so Jaden Reed happens to be another great rookie this year.
- 56:40OK, nine.
- 56:41What do you got to say about Christian Watson?
- 56:42Yeah, he's going to be in the league in 10 years, bro.
- 56:43I don't know if he's going to be in the league in 10 years.
- 56:48God take us home.
