Latest / Elon Musk Podcast / Tesla Full Self Driving Rolls out to 100,000 Vehicles + SpaceX Starlink/Starship News
Transcript
- 0:00Hi everybody. Welcome back to the show.
- 0:02We're going to be talking a little bit about Teslas.
- 0:05Full self-driving beta today and who's going to be getting it
- 0:09soon. Also we're going to be talking
- 0:11about a little bit of Starship news and Falcon 9 and starlink
- 0:16and T-Mobile. Do you remember when they did
- 0:18that thing with SpaceX starlink and T-Mobile this little bit
- 0:22ago, that was really cool. So we're going to be talking
- 0:25about that. So let's dig into the full
- 0:28self-driving bait. Canoes that just came out.
- 0:31This is full self-driving. Beta ten point six, nine point
- 0:36two six nine. Nice Ilan.
- 0:39Said that it will roll out to 100,000 testers next week as it
- 0:44had been planned for a while. This will be the last phase of
- 0:48Tesla's, latest software update release in in the first phase
- 0:52Tesla, released the full self-driving, beta update to
- 0:55around 1,000 testers and the crew released 10.
- 1:00It's six. Nine point one this week to 10th
- 1:03up zip testers. So in a week's time we're going
- 1:06to be seeing 100,000 people testing FSD beta 10.6, 9.2 and
- 1:14the critics have been all over full self-driving recently.
- 1:18They've been doing tests where they've been debunking.
- 1:22The fact that full self-driving and Tesla's models show smaller
- 1:28people like children in The road and roundabouts where they have
- 1:32to pause and roundabouts. They don't really know how to
- 1:34drive around roundabouts. Those are being debunked by
- 1:37Tesla owners all over the place. The people with FSD right now.
- 1:42So listen to them, take them with a grain of salt because the
- 1:48FSD beta program is rolling out to 100,000 testers next week and
- 1:53that's insanely. That's an insane amount of data
- 1:57that they'll be able to gather really quickly because The test
- 2:01subject is a thousand that a bumps up to 10,000 testers and
- 2:04then it bumps up to 100,000 testers.
- 2:07Just imagine 10 times the amount of data coming into Tesla
- 2:11servers where they can crunch that data, they can make
- 2:14adjustments as they go with real life.
- 2:17People driving on the roads. This is going to be a huge step
- 2:21forward for the 10.6 9.2 beta out there.
- 2:26So, there's there's a tweet from Whole Mars.
- 2:29As catalog that said, 10 .69 is so much more human-like and it's
- 2:32driving. It's just delightful expand to
- 2:35all OG beta testers ASAP please. And then Elon Musk replied with
- 2:40ten point six point or ten point.
- 2:42Six. Nine point two goes out to a
- 2:43hundred thousand donors next week so he announced it on
- 2:46Twitter that this is all happening, really fast.
- 2:49It you know, just a little bit ago, people were clamoring to
- 2:54get the into the Beta but now, it looks like 100,000 people are
- 2:59going to Bien then after that it's going to be a full wide
- 3:03release to all Tesla cars with FSD and also make sure to get
- 3:08FSD sooner rather than later if your price conscious about your
- 3:15vehicle because it's going from twelve thousand dollars to
- 3:20fifteen thousand dollars. So be careful of that be be
- 3:25forewarned that test the plans to raise the price of SFS D
- 3:29beta. After the release of 10 .69.
- 3:32So anyone interested in getting FSD you know check it out.
- 3:36Purchase it now it's twelve thousand dollars now and test
- 3:39the plans to raise it to 15,000. So reiterating that please save
- 3:43yourself, three thousand dollars.
- 3:44If you can buy some new tires, new rims or something, you know,
- 3:47get some get a cool rap for your car.
- 3:49Something cool like that. So buy it now and you said I
- 3:52should three thousand dollars to, you know, to invest in your
- 3:55vehicle for the future. So that's where we're at right
- 3:58now with Tesla. Now I want to Talk about
- 4:01starlink a little bit, Royal Caribbean is teaming up with
- 4:07SpaceX and starlink they've announced plans to use starlink
- 4:13internet services to enhance its guests and crew members
- 4:16experience across its whole Fleet.
- 4:18The company will install starlink International Celebrity
- 4:23and silver sea, cruise ships and we'll also add Sterling to all
- 4:27new vessels for the brand. So the good thing about Star
- 4:30Lake is that all you really need is a clear view of the sky.
- 4:34And when you're out in the ocean right now, the internet
- 4:38possibilities are very, very dull, very dim internet
- 4:42possibilities at this point. And if you have a bunch of
- 4:46starlink satellite dishes on your boat and your giant ship
- 4:51and you have, you know, thousands of people on board,
- 4:54those people will be using start link to connect to the internet
- 4:57which is great. So just recently A couple months
- 5:00ago, Ilan said that starlink will be able to be used on
- 5:04boats, will be able to use that planes eventually trucks, Etc.
- 5:08But they also just released this really cool update for the Royal
- 5:15Caribbean group. So here is a little bit of
- 5:19background for you about this. So Royal Caribbean said our
- 5:23purpose as a company is to deliver the best vacation
- 5:26experiences to our guests responsibly and this new
- 5:30offering which is the public the biggest public deployment of
- 5:34Starlings, high speed internet in the travel industry so far.
- 5:37Demonstrates our commitment to that purpose.
- 5:39Now this technology will provide game-changing internet
- 5:42connectivity aboard, our ships and enhancing the cruise
- 5:44experience for guests and crew alike will improve and enable
- 5:47more high-bandwidth activities like video streaming as well as
- 5:50activities like video calls. So if you're on a cruise ship,
- 5:52let me just do a little aside here.
- 5:55If you're on a cruise ship and you're you're excited, you're
- 5:57hanging out on his boat, you know, you're in the middle of
- 5:59the In is beautiful. But you're like, you know what?
- 6:04I want to watch The Lord of the Rings.
- 6:06But you can't stream it because there's no internet.
- 6:10Now you can. So if you're going to be on a
- 6:13Royal Caribbean group ship in the future, you can watch Lord
- 6:17of the Rings and the middle of the ocean someplace, it's gonna
- 6:19be pretty wild. So they go on to say our work
- 6:24with SpaceX is another example of how Royal Caribbean group
- 6:26continuously the crudest cruise industry and Innovation adoption
- 6:30of Cutting Edge technology. Basically a press release and
- 6:33SpaceX vice president of Starling sales.
- 6:35Nathan Hoffler said he's excited about working with Royal
- 6:39Caribbean, said, Royal Caribbean group selected Starling to
- 6:42provide high speed low, latency internet access across their
- 6:46Fleet will, and it will make their passengers getaways even
- 6:50more luxurious. So basically, hey, if you want
- 6:53to do a face time with somebody and you're out in the middle of
- 6:55the ocean, if you miss somebody, see if you know Grandma, you
- 7:01know, wants to wants to talk to you in the middle of the ocean
- 7:04and Graham is back. In San Diego or something.
- 7:07And around the ocean someplace you can FaceTime grandma.
- 7:11And yeah, you'll have a have a good experience according to
- 7:15Royal Caribbean and SpaceX because starlink its gaming
- 7:19speed internet and all it needs is a view of the sky to work.
- 7:24So it could be you know, it'll be right on the, it'll be on the
- 7:28ship of be bolted to the ship in will have a clear view of the
- 7:32sky so could possibly get, you know, You know, it's the, the
- 7:38Starling Maritime and I believe they're using those same ones
- 7:43and those are 350 Meg's per second downloads while it's
- 7:47easy. So that's pretty good.
- 7:48If they have different satellites all over the ship,
- 7:52you'll have a pretty good connectivity at that point.
- 7:54And so, The cost of this thing, too, it's really not that
- 7:58expensive. If you think about it for a
- 8:00cruise line to have internet. Plus it's safer out in the
- 8:03ocean, right? Because if you have a distress
- 8:05call or something and they do have certain sort of bands
- 8:09frequencies, they use in certain sort of communication that they
- 8:12already use for emergencies. But it's a, if those go down for
- 8:15some reason and you, the only reliable thing you can use is
- 8:21starlink there's a one-time Hardware costs of In dollars per
- 8:27satellite dish, not bad for the boat, right?
- 8:31So if you spend, you know, a hundred thousand dollars per
- 8:34boat, maybe have 10 of these headlights on their dishes, I
- 8:37should say. And then per month you pay five
- 8:41thousand dollars, right? So possibly Royal Caribbean will
- 8:45charge a little bit more, you know, per customer for the
- 8:51opportunity to use high-speed internet because I know when you
- 8:54jump on that plane, Lane everybody does it, everybody
- 8:57does it. It's like do you get the free
- 8:59plan? Which is where the slow is
- 9:01different, airlines offer different value as well.
- 9:05So do you get the free plan which is really slow.
- 9:08And, you know, it takes, you know, 30 seconds to load up
- 9:12Reddit, almost impossible to send a text message to somebody
- 9:16when you're in the air or do you pay a little bit more?
- 9:20Do you bump it up for 20 bucks, 30 bucks, whatever?
- 9:25So that's where they're going to make their money real Caribbeans
- 9:27going to make their money due to probably upgrades to plans to.
- 9:31So yeah, we'll see. We'll see what happens in the
- 9:34future and see how this all works out, but it looks like
- 9:36they're going all in like it looks like the whole Fleet is
- 9:41going full on starlink for the future so seems like it's going
- 9:47to be okay. And the information, the the
- 9:53speeds going to be pretty Especially if they're out there
- 9:55in the sea and they kind of need this back-up plan, right?
- 9:58So SpaceX also is testing, the show is brought to you by
- 10:03backblaze. I use back place to back up my
- 10:06podcast. My video files, all of my
- 10:08writing stuff, and all my photos.
- 10:10And you get unlimited computer backup, for Macs, and PCs for
- 10:13just $7 a month. You can backup your own
- 10:16documents photos videos. Drawings projects, all of your
- 10:20data and access your backed up data from anywhere in the world
- 10:23using the web app and you can access the files on your mobile
- 10:26to iOS Android apps all covered. And this is a cool part.
- 10:30This is my favorite part. You can restore it by mail, a
- 10:32hard drive will come to your house with all your data shipped
- 10:35to your door. I could come to your business to
- 10:37and you can restore return refund program so you can buy a
- 10:41hard drive restore, send the hard drive back within 30 days
- 10:44and get a full refund. So basically they ship you this
- 10:47hard drive and then you ship it back and you don't ever pay for
- 10:50it which is the perfect program for somebody who has huge file.
- 10:54You don't want to waste days and days, downloading terabytes and
- 10:57teraflops of data. And if you're worried about
- 10:59accidentally, deleting your files to bucks extra month, you
- 11:03can increase your retention history to one year, and I use
- 11:06it for all of my video. Files comes in super handy.
- 11:09So seven dollars plus two dollars nine dollars a month and
- 11:12you get everything backed up. He's a mind for up to a year.
- 11:15And if you use the URL back, place.com slash Ilan, you get a
- 11:21fully featured 15-day. No credit card.
- 11:24Guard required free trial, check it out, play with it.
- 11:27Start protecting yourself from potential, bad times, back your
- 11:30stuff up. It's recommended by the New York
- 11:33Times ink macworld PC World. Life wire wired, Tom's, guide,
- 11:38925 mac and more and it's recently been listed on the
- 11:41NASDAQ stock exchange under be lze.
- 11:43So you know they're legit back plays is committed more than
- 11:46ever to bring an easy and affordable data storage that you
- 11:49can trust don't be that person that forgot to back up their
- 11:52important files. Got your back, sign up for a
- 11:55free 15 day trial. No credit card required.
- 11:59Go there sign up. Are you with it?
- 12:01It's really powerful in is really easy to use.
- 12:03So go to back place.com slash Ilan back plays.com Ilan
- 12:10backblaze.com, Ilan booster 7 in ship 24.
- 12:16So 24/7 down at Boca Chica at Starbase booster. 7 is going to
- 12:23be doing a static. Take fire test at some point.
- 12:25There was an overpressure notice last night for today, actually,
- 12:31for the 31st and we're hoping that, you know, will get a, we
- 12:37get a static fire test. We're not sure how many engines
- 12:39they're going to be static firing at this point but there's
- 12:42a possibility that they do anywhere between 10 and I mean
- 12:47there's 33 engines on the thing so it's possible.
- 12:50They do anywhere between 1. 33. So, but we're guessing it's
- 12:56possibly going to be a dual kind of testing array today.
- 13:02So they might do a smaller tests just to make sure that
- 13:05everything is still working, right?
- 13:06And everything's good and all the plumbing Works basically,
- 13:09might do a smaller array test. So a couple couple Raptor two
- 13:13engines going and then they may move on to ten Reptar two
- 13:18engines, which would be incredible because this Starship
- 13:23is Supposedly the one that speak going to be going to orbit and
- 13:27that's a huge step for. So this is literally the biggest
- 13:30rocket has ever been built. It's about 150 feet tall a
- 13:35hundred forty, some odd feet tall but I say 100 not 150. 400
- 13:40feet tall. I should say.
- 13:41So the ship itself is 150 feet tall and the boosters, 250 feet
- 13:46tall around that size, it's easier to round up, but sending
- 13:53something like Starship into orbit has never been done.
- 13:56So these testing, basically it's a research and development
- 14:03environment down there. It's a, it's out in the middle
- 14:05of nowhere. It's a desert, you know, it's a,
- 14:09it's a, it's a, it's a wild place down there, man, there's
- 14:13sand dust storms. There's hurricanes is blazing
- 14:19heat everyday, 130 degrees are not 130. 130 would be insane.
- 14:24Like 103. I've been down there at 103
- 14:26degrees 104 degrees. Now, the sun is out all the
- 14:29time, but these people are working there all the time, like
- 14:32day and night. 24/7, working to get this thing built and ready
- 14:36for a fight, which should happen.
- 14:39Should possibly happen sometime later this year.
- 14:42So, I'm a huge rocket Enthusiast.
- 14:44I'm a space, flight Enthusiast. And I have a YouTube channel
- 14:47called space news, pod, where I go over all this stuff, like in
- 14:51detail and tell everybody about News about space flight Starship
- 14:57basically a lot of SpaceX stuff in NASA stuff.
- 15:01So if you're interested, go check that out.
- 15:03But they are testing down there today and they've also just
- 15:09completed the 57th operational. Starling launch going back to
- 15:13Starling here. That's a huge deal for the 57th
- 15:16times. SpaceX has delivered a batch of
- 15:20starlink satellites to low earth orbit.
- 15:22So this is You know, this is a this is a groundbreaking
- 15:28occurrence and it launched from Vandenberg space force base in
- 15:32California they set up version 1.5 satellites so they're
- 15:38working a version, two satellites.
- 15:40These are going to be bigger. So the version 2 satellites are
- 15:44going to have a bigger footprint in a bigger antenna array.
- 15:48And Ilan has said numerous times that the set of the array, Ray
- 15:54is too big to fit in a falcon 9 in the current fairing
- 15:58configuration. So Elon and the head of T-Mobile
- 16:04actually. We're down at Starbase Last week
- 16:08and they announced that SpaceX and T-Mobile are going to be
- 16:11working together to bring satellite internet connectivity
- 16:15to your phone, which is incredible.
- 16:19So basically anybody that is in the middle of nowhere, See if
- 16:24your car breaks down on a lonely desert highway on your way down
- 16:28to Starbase. You can call somebody with your
- 16:33phone. You can text somebody and say,
- 16:35hey my car broke down, I need some help at this point.
- 16:39There was no other way to do that.
- 16:40There are ranges in the middle of the mountains where you have
- 16:45zero connectivity to anything. You can't get internet there.
- 16:51You cannot get you know regular phone like you and I have like
- 16:56Verizon or T-Mobile or AT&T or Sprint or whatever.
- 16:59There's no, there's no connectivity.
- 17:00Ribbity. So they have to use satellite
- 17:02phones and they have to use other sorts of technology in
- 17:05order to communicate with people, in case something
- 17:08happens. So SpaceX and T-Mobile put out a
- 17:11teaser video. Basically saying, hey, if you're
- 17:14going to be climbing a mountain, if you're going to be hiking
- 17:16some place, if you're going to be out in the middle of nowhere,
- 17:18this is going to help you for the adventurer out there for the
- 17:21people that work in the middle of nowhere.
- 17:24You know, they showed a person in a, in a plane, it was in the
- 17:27Arctic someplace and he's like, yeah, if I don't, you know,
- 17:30Don't hear from me by 3:00, they start rounding up the people to
- 17:33come find me. And I thought that was pretty
- 17:37moving because at 3:00 every day this person has to jump in their
- 17:42plane and fly back to their headquarters.
- 17:45And if they don't check in before then, then people get
- 17:50worried. But if they don't check in by 3,
- 17:53then people get worried and with the starlink connectivity via
- 17:59the phone. He has be like, hey, by the way
- 18:04I'm hurt, you know, the plane broke down, whatever it is.
- 18:07I need help. Here's where I am.
- 18:09Come get me. So if there's a, if there's a
- 18:13problem, you know, T-Mobile and SpaceX and starlink are going to
- 18:18be there for people, but it's going to be rolling out in the
- 18:21next year. So don't expect it anytime soon,
- 18:24but you'll be able to use your current phone to do it, which is
- 18:27really great. It's going to be using a band
- 18:30for the current phone. So don't have to upgrade
- 18:33anything. You don't have to buy a T-Mobile
- 18:35branded phone, or you don't have to like change from your iPhone,
- 18:38your Android device you can basically use your current
- 18:41Phone, certain smartphones. Of course there are going to be
- 18:45models that don't work, but there's going to most
- 18:47smartphones. They said are going to work.
- 18:49So keep your current phone sign up for this plan.
- 18:53Most T, Mobile plans will have it available except for like the
- 18:56cheapest plans, so don't get the cheap plan.
- 19:00If you're going to switch over to T-Mobile, if you want
- 19:02starlink in the future or keep this, you know, do the cheap
- 19:04plan now? And then upgrade eventually once
- 19:07they do have star like, but Elan also said hey we know that I
- 19:13said version 2 of starlink can only fit in a Starship because
- 19:16Starships the only vehicle that's big enough in the FCC.
- 19:21Got a paper from space, exit stated, we are working on sort
- 19:28of a smaller version of the version to Starling satellite to
- 19:32fit into the fairing of a Falcon 9 rocket because we're not 100%
- 19:38sure. Sure.
- 19:39That Starship is going to be ready in time so that shows a
- 19:43little bit of pushback from SpaceX about the deadlines that
- 19:48Elon has stated numerous times, he wants Starship to go to orbit
- 19:51by the end of this year. So I'm going to be going down to
- 19:55that launch if possible. So if you like this podcast,
- 19:59please make sure to subscribe. That's the easiest way for you
- 20:02to help out if you want to have a conversation about it, I'll be
- 20:05doing more Starship stuff in the future more Starship.
- 20:10Podcast in the future and also go to space news pod on YouTube
- 20:13for more Starship content. I was down there, I spent 10
- 20:16months down there, covering Starship everyday basically
- 20:20standing on the side of the road in 103 degree weather, that 130
- 20:24degree weather. I know that some of you heard me
- 20:27say 130 degrees earlier but it was about 103 degree weather and
- 20:31standing on the side of the road covering Starship for hours.
- 20:34You know, it's a it's a brutal place.
- 20:37But I want to go back because the star Ship launch is going to
- 20:40be so incredible and I'm going to have more information about
- 20:43how you can help in the future for those Starship launches
- 20:48because I got to get back. And fundraising is the only way
- 20:52I can do it. This podcast doesn't make enough
- 20:55money. Really, I'm gonna be honest with
- 20:56you. This podcast doesn't make enough
- 20:57money to send me down to 22, Starship land there at Boca
- 21:04Chica Beach. So I'm going to end.
- 21:06This is my full-time thing. I do the YouTube thing and I do
- 21:08the podcast This thing. So I'm going to have a link in
- 21:12the description for a GoFundMe for my for my future.
- 21:18Journeys down to Starbase and other rocket launches in the
- 21:22future. So if you want to help out
- 21:24that's the best way to do it. And also if you want to
- 21:27subscribe to the show, that would be really great to just to
- 21:29help out a little bit more. So SpaceX starlink T-Mobile just
- 21:37you know, think about that for the future.
- 21:39For your next phone plan, which one is best for you?
- 21:42But let's go to Starship launched together by the end of
- 21:46this year. Hopefully, hopefully by the end
- 21:48of this year. So thanks everybody for
- 21:51listening. I do appreciate your support and
- 21:53I do appreciate your time. Let's talk about this more.
- 21:57Hit me up. I have a Discord in the link
- 22:00Discord, Link in the description to, and that goes to the space
- 22:02news pod Discord. So, please join up, say hi.
- 22:07And you know, let's talk about About space stuff over there if
- 22:10you want to, if you're into that.
- 22:12So, thanks again, take care and I'll see you later.
- 22:09About space stuff over there if you want to, if you're into
- 22:11that. So, thanks again, take care and
- 22:13I'll see you later.
