- 0:16Speaker 1: to always keep their eyes open. You be queen, you
- 0:21Speaker 1: were fired. You will pass through centuries on the hands
- 0:24Speaker 1: of your daughters. They called you wisdom. Proverbs on the
- 0:28Speaker 1: backs of diamond eyed school children who growing into hymnals
- 0:32Speaker 1: recited by amethyst holding urban philosophers who recited neighborhood commandments
- 0:37Speaker 1: out of the windows of restored alchimedo chariots. To keep
- 0:40Speaker 1: the warmth of their blood. Be wise, be smart, being black,

- 0:57Speaker 1: wife told her daughter, and daughter told the as this is.
- 1:00Speaker 1: And the ancestors told me that you would come to
- 1:04Speaker 1: give wisdom. Thousands. They said you would come dropping Dropping
- 1:09Speaker 1: the Gym. Hey, welcome back the Dropping Gem's podcast. I'm
- 1:13Speaker 1: Debbie Brown. This is my show. This is a safe
- 1:18Speaker 1: space and a sacred container where I love to explore
- 1:22Speaker 1: higher consciousness but for real life, and I like to
- 1:26Speaker 1: make it as applicable as possible to your day to
- 1:29Speaker 1: day life and use um but also for many of
- 1:32Speaker 1: the things that interests me. So this is a show
- 1:35Speaker 1: for those that enjoy the logical, irrational, the esoteric, the ethereal,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and also for those that are ready to do some
- 1:43Speaker 1: of the deeper work. So thank you for your bravery,
- 1:47Speaker 1: thank you for your courage, thank you for your ears,
- 1:50Speaker 1: thank you for your listening, and thank you for your
- 1:52Speaker 1: time and being with me on this show. I want
- 1:55Speaker 1: to say a big thank you to everybody that has
- 1:57Speaker 1: reached out. Which should be a happy birthday. I celebrated
- 2:01Speaker 1: my birthday recently and it was so beautiful I think
- 2:05Speaker 1: I actually need to do a whole show about it.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I decided to turn my birthday into a healing retreat
- 2:11Speaker 1: in my backyard, and um, you know, my birthday kind
- 2:15Speaker 1: of coincided along with Los Angeles opening back up, and
- 2:19Speaker 1: I know a lot of the world opening back up,
- 2:21Speaker 1: and I think so many of us are really trying
- 2:24Speaker 1: to figure out how do I want to occupy space?
- 2:28Speaker 1: What do I want to do in this new normal
- 2:30Speaker 1: now that we've all kind of been given the freedom
- 2:33Speaker 1: and some of the opportunity to perhaps restructure our lives
- 2:39Speaker 1: and restructure our friend groups and restructure how much we
- 2:43Speaker 1: want to give of ourselves. So I had a really
- 2:46Speaker 1: beautiful evening. Um Actually, now, on the second thought, I
- 2:49Speaker 1: think it will definitely turn this into an entire episode,
- 2:51Speaker 1: so stay tuned for that. But one of the one
- 2:55Speaker 1: of the beautiful people that was at my party is
- 2:58Speaker 1: actually my guest today, so I'm gonna get into that
- 3:02Speaker 1: in justice second. First, because I always forget to do
- 3:05Speaker 1: this and I don't know why I don't talk about
- 3:08Speaker 1: this more, but I wanted to make sure that for
- 3:11Speaker 1: those that are interested in meditating with me, I lead
- 3:15Speaker 1: meditations Monday through Friday on the Choper app, so you
- 3:20Speaker 1: can join me there. It's in the iOS store. I

- 6:47Speaker 1: here's my dear friend, one of my favorite humans that
- 6:51Speaker 1: has ever lived. Welcome to the show, saw Welcome to
- 6:56Speaker 1: the show. One of my favorite favorite human beings that
- 7:02Speaker 1: have ever existed in this lifetime, favorite souls that has
- 7:05Speaker 1: ever existed in all the realms, My dear friend, Sadi Simone.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Oh ship, Hi, my queen, my diary. I'm so honored
- 7:21Speaker 1: to be here. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank
- 7:23Speaker 1: God for you. And the feeling is mutual. Thank you.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I love you, I love you, and I want to
- 7:34Speaker 1: start the show there. I love you. I think you
- 7:37Speaker 1: are such a powerful spiritual teacher and just such a
- 7:46Speaker 1: kind soul um. And I think a piece of you
- 7:51Speaker 1: like you are so powerful in so many ways. And
- 7:55Speaker 1: I think the way that you share yourself with your audiences,
- 7:57Speaker 1: you like in your full power, which gives this humongous,
- 8:02Speaker 1: gorgeous permission to anyone that connects with your work to
- 8:08Speaker 1: dive deeper and to really see themselves. And something I
- 8:14Speaker 1: love is that you are that power. But you also
- 8:17Speaker 1: have like such a tenderness and thoughtfulness about you, like
- 8:23Speaker 1: you are so deeply connected. Um, I think to the
- 8:26Speaker 1: people in your lives in a way that feels really special.
- 8:29Speaker 1: So I just want to start with that is so sweet.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Thank you, babe, thank you, thank you, thank you. Uh.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Years in the making, you know, years in the making.
- 8:39Speaker 1: It wasn't always um. Someone said to me, sigh, you
- 8:44Speaker 1: are are so effortless. But my response to that, it's taken.
- 8:49Speaker 1: It's taken a lot of effort to be effortless, you know,
- 8:53Speaker 1: and just remembering that that it does take a like
- 8:56Speaker 1: being present is effortless when we are present, right, but
- 9:00Speaker 1: when we are so um, discombabulated, untrained, scattered, crunchy, wobbly,
- 9:07Speaker 1: it takes a lot of effort to become present. And like,
- 9:10Speaker 1: all that's good that I have to offer, all that's
- 9:13Speaker 1: wise that I have to offer, all that's benevolent, uh,
- 9:16Speaker 1: and beneficially that I have to offer only comes from
- 9:18Speaker 1: like deep presence, you know. So it does take a
- 9:22Speaker 1: lot of effort, you know, getting up in the morning,
- 9:25Speaker 1: cuddling with the boyfriend for a minute, and then sitting
- 9:28Speaker 1: down to meditate, doing the breath during the prayers, and
- 9:32Speaker 1: then getting the fitness on, drinking water, doing all the
- 9:35Speaker 1: things to be able to show up, you know, with
- 9:38Speaker 1: deep presence, like with the mind that's relaxed, with the
- 9:41Speaker 1: body that's energized, with the heart that's open um. So
- 9:45Speaker 1: thank you for that reflection that the work is working.
- 9:49Speaker 1: You know I do the work is working. So I
- 9:56Speaker 1: like to start all my shows with kind of talking
- 9:58Speaker 1: about how I found myself connected to such glorious spirits.
- 10:03Speaker 1: And I love our story because we kind of came
- 10:05Speaker 1: together um a little bit in the Chopper universe, like
- 10:08Speaker 1: both kind of you have spoken so gorgeously on Chopper
- 10:12Speaker 1: stages at retreats. We were both at the top of
- 10:15Speaker 1: the pandemic kind of sharing um our hearts with the
- 10:19Speaker 1: audiences on like lives on Chopra. And one day, like
- 10:23Speaker 1: I had been seeing you and I had just been
- 10:25Speaker 1: like loving loving you from Afar, and then we were
- 10:29Speaker 1: on a zoom call together where it was keep going
- 10:39Speaker 1: and we were like all on these zoom screens and
- 10:42Speaker 1: I was staring at you and you were staring at me,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and then you sent me like a little chat in
- 10:51Speaker 1: the screen and I just like started dying. What did
- 10:54Speaker 1: you say when you chatted me? I say, oh my god,
- 10:57Speaker 1: you're like I'm melting looking at you. Were giving like
- 11:00Speaker 1: icon vibes something like that, and I was like, you
- 11:03Speaker 1: dropped that gorgeous and and in that very moment, We're like, honey,
- 11:07Speaker 1: I was just thinking the same like I was thinking
- 11:09Speaker 1: literally the same thing watching you right now. And then
- 11:13Speaker 1: after that it was a wrap like it turned immediately
- 11:16Speaker 1: into an iconic um afternoons spent in Venice and many many, many,
- 11:23Speaker 1: many many more moments like that. Um. So it's been
- 11:26Speaker 1: such a joy. But that's something I love about us
- 11:28Speaker 1: because I think that we are able to be the
- 11:30Speaker 1: fullness of who we are in front of people and
- 11:32Speaker 1: greet each other with that much enthusiasm. Um. And that's
- 11:37Speaker 1: something that that I think is a really beautiful gift
- 11:39Speaker 1: about deep, authentic friendships. Yeah, Babe, I gotta say, Honey,
- 11:44Speaker 1: I've been quietly watching you and just obsessing over like
- 11:48Speaker 1: if I liked women, I like the seed, Honey. I
- 11:55Speaker 1: want you to be like the mother of my children. Honey.
- 11:58Speaker 1: It's brave for me to come back. I guess your
- 12:00Speaker 1: next lifetime. It's like that you are, I mean, and
- 12:06Speaker 1: the love is shared when I when I talk talk
- 12:08Speaker 1: about you too, like my mother and my family, everyone's like, yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 1: Debby Brown is the fucking ship. She's the monic legendary.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And that one time when I was at your house
- 12:18Speaker 1: and I faced time my mom. Yes, yeah, then you
- 12:21Speaker 1: guys and your mom got to request my son. Yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I mean you you baby, You're it. You know you're it,
- 12:30Speaker 1: and I mean it every every with every every, every
- 12:35Speaker 1: part of it. It's like you to be able to
- 12:37Speaker 1: be a mother, a teacher, a guide and and still
- 12:42Speaker 1: show up with so much you know, brightness and and
- 12:46Speaker 1: and ease and we laugh so much, you know, and
- 12:50Speaker 1: I'm a good honey, like yes, yeah, thank you, thank
- 12:59Speaker 1: you know. Earlier this year, um, you released your second book,
- 13:05Speaker 1: Spiritually Sassy, Eight Radical Steps to Activate your Innate Superpowers.
- 13:10Speaker 1: And I love like you're you're very much at the
- 13:13Speaker 1: forefront of this new spiritual world that's really being unearthed
- 13:18Speaker 1: and and coming in a way that is truly democratized
- 13:21Speaker 1: and available to all. And I really want to speak
- 13:24Speaker 1: to you know something that I really connect within your work.
- 13:28Speaker 1: And I had a chance to be on your incredible podcast,
- 13:31Speaker 1: The Spiritually Sassy Show, and I still get d m
- 13:34Speaker 1: s about that every day. Um. But you know something
- 13:37Speaker 1: we talked to on that is you're such an incredible blend.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I think of deep ancient knowledge, like you have a
- 13:46Speaker 1: very specific path that you've walked in honor to your lineage,
- 13:50Speaker 1: the Buddhist lineage, and I think, but you're also so
- 13:54Speaker 1: radically present moment connected to now in the deep understanding
- 13:58Speaker 1: of really the complex layers of humanity. I think we're
- 14:02Speaker 1: just stepping into that moment within this spiritual world. You know,
- 14:06Speaker 1: spirituality is on trend. It has come to the forefront um.
- 14:09Speaker 1: For many of us, it's what literally saved our lives.
- 14:12Speaker 1: And then I think for others it is this kind
- 14:15Speaker 1: of um fun dabbling. Maybe you know, spirituality is really
- 14:19Speaker 1: having its moment in the sun. And I think it
- 14:24Speaker 1: gets a little dangerous in that way, because I do
- 14:27Speaker 1: think a lot of people are reading one book and
- 14:29Speaker 1: then saying I'm a teacher or I'm a spiritual teacher.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And and I'm not taking away from the fact that
- 14:38Speaker 1: they may be on the path, but like the deep
- 14:41Speaker 1: spiritual work isn't about the marketable offerings, right, It isn't
- 14:47Speaker 1: about um self grandizing, and I think that's something that
- 14:52Speaker 1: we all on this path kind of struggle with. It's like, yeah,
- 14:54Speaker 1: I know I need to position myself in a way
- 14:57Speaker 1: that people can get this transformative work. But I also
- 15:00Speaker 1: don't love the performance aspect of it or the instagrammable
- 15:06Speaker 1: way it's done. UM. But I think that the space
- 15:10Speaker 1: that you occupy, I really think you're the intersection of
- 15:13Speaker 1: these two worlds meeting. And so it's been really incredible
- 15:17Speaker 1: to watch. I think we occupy a very interesting space,
- 15:22Speaker 1: especially as we are both really rooted in lineage UM
- 15:26Speaker 1: and not just in positivity or in like let's feel better.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It's like, okay, well let's get let's get to the
- 15:33Speaker 1: deep fibers of God. You know, I think that's kind
- 15:36Speaker 1: of how we create a recipe to experience that UM.
- 15:41Speaker 1: And so so I think I'm getting around to say, UM,
- 15:48Speaker 1: you know, I just want to know how are you
- 15:50Speaker 1: in this moment experiencing your personal relationship with your spiritual journey. UM.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I do think that that's something that always even volves
- 16:00Speaker 1: for us on this path as we let go and
- 16:02Speaker 1: take on and also I'm really curious, how are you
- 16:05Speaker 1: experiencing this current movement of spirituality as someone who is
- 16:10Speaker 1: definitely connecting powerfully to gen Z and millennial millennial audiences,
- 16:15Speaker 1: but someone that is also like ancient. I love this.
- 16:19Speaker 1: And you know, there's a story about about the Buddha
- 16:23Speaker 1: that there's a story that I want to share that
- 16:26Speaker 1: there was a woman, um a young woman, washing clothes
- 16:30Speaker 1: on a rooftop and he was giving one of his
- 16:33Speaker 1: first uh sermons. You know, he's giving one of his
- 16:36Speaker 1: first teachings and the woman had never practiced, had no
- 16:41Speaker 1: spiritual context in this lifetime that she was aware of.
- 16:44Speaker 1: She heard the words, she heard a few words, and
- 16:47Speaker 1: the very moment she unlocked everything that was locked inside
- 16:50Speaker 1: of her. She became free and completely liberated with just
- 16:56Speaker 1: a few words. So I do believe. And the reason
- 16:59Speaker 1: why I'm talented stories because going back to the thing
- 17:01Speaker 1: where where it is very harmful and very very profoundly dangerous,
- 17:05Speaker 1: because spirituality is cool now and it is trendy, and
- 17:09Speaker 1: it is the the sexy hot new topic like breaking
- 17:13Speaker 1: generational curses is that hot things? Yo? God, you know
- 17:18Speaker 1: what I mean. It's like, there's really do you know
- 17:23Speaker 1: what that takes. So we're looking at something. The reason
- 17:27Speaker 1: why I tell that stories because you know, my prayer
- 17:30Speaker 1: and my wishes that perhaps the people can read one book,
- 17:36Speaker 1: and they can go to one meditation retreat, and they
- 17:38Speaker 1: could sit one time. And my prayer is that there's
- 17:42Speaker 1: their their conditions, the cosmic condition are so are so
- 17:45Speaker 1: ready that it ripes into complete liberation. They could read
- 17:49Speaker 1: one book, they could sit for one meditation, they could
- 17:51Speaker 1: listen to one teaching and all of a sudden, is
- 17:55Speaker 1: all of it just unlocked completely. So I'm having for
- 17:58Speaker 1: but it just I'm saying this, so I hope that
- 18:01Speaker 1: that's the case, right, that their karma is their karma
- 18:03Speaker 1: is so right that it would just takes one time
- 18:06Speaker 1: for full full unlocking. It hasn't been the case for me, right,
- 18:11Speaker 1: I had to go through so much ship to be
- 18:15Speaker 1: you know, so far from enlightened and have a degree
- 18:19Speaker 1: of wisdom that I can educate and inspire other people. Right, um,
- 18:23Speaker 1: And and it's also important to say that I never
- 18:25Speaker 1: planned of being a spiritual teacher. It was it was
- 18:28Speaker 1: kind of the thing where I went into spirituality. And
- 18:31Speaker 1: you and I shared about this a lot before and
- 18:34Speaker 1: you've talked spoke about this earlier on. It's we enter
- 18:37Speaker 1: into spirituality either out of privilege, because we have all
- 18:40Speaker 1: of our basic needs are taking care of, so we
- 18:42Speaker 1: have the money, we have the house, we have, all
- 18:44Speaker 1: the things are working. And then it's like what else
- 18:48Speaker 1: is there? And then you start to be curious about
- 18:50Speaker 1: the matters of the heart. You start to be curious
- 18:52Speaker 1: about the unseen world. You start to be curious about
- 18:55Speaker 1: about the gods and goddess, angelic beings. Thetis Darren protectors
- 18:59Speaker 1: that because that keens all the Buddhies. Start to be
- 19:02Speaker 1: curious about the things that you know. You can't see
- 19:05Speaker 1: what the eyes in your face, but you experience them.
- 19:07Speaker 1: So privilege opens with dark for that. And now there's
- 19:10Speaker 1: a whole other side of it which is out of despair,
- 19:13Speaker 1: out of desperation, which which was my case, um, in
- 19:17Speaker 1: your case too, we were we were in this position
- 19:20Speaker 1: in our lives that we're desperate, uh, feeling completely inadequate, deficient, broken.
- 19:27Speaker 1: The The overarching thing for me was just feeling like
- 19:30Speaker 1: I was an innately bad person and having that shame
- 19:33Speaker 1: monster kind of like guiding orient in my mind, my
- 19:37Speaker 1: words and my actions. Um, it was very heavy. So
- 19:43Speaker 1: the the sense that I was innately a bad person,
- 19:46Speaker 1: then you ended up creating the self fulfilling prophecy for
- 19:49Speaker 1: yourself that you are then you know, creating every single
- 19:54Speaker 1: potential circumstances to validate that feeling that you are innately bad.
- 19:59Speaker 1: So then you're it becomes it becomes a psycho of misery. Right,
- 20:02Speaker 1: So going going back, I mean, you've said so many
- 20:06Speaker 1: different things that I just want to sort of like
- 20:07Speaker 1: unpack a little bit. So I think, um, I think, um,
- 20:12Speaker 1: when when? And then to go back to like another
- 20:15Speaker 1: point that you said, like where am I at with
- 20:17Speaker 1: like my spiritual currently my relationship to my spiritual practice,
- 20:19Speaker 1: And um, I go through phases when I become staggering
- 20:24Speaker 1: into my practice right where like I the routine of
- 20:29Speaker 1: the spiritual work, I enter to what we call like
- 20:31Speaker 1: sacred boredom, and then I'm like, okay, sacred boardoms here,
- 20:35Speaker 1: all right, And then I aggate back for a little while.
- 20:38Speaker 1: You know, I navigate sacred boarding for a little because
- 20:41Speaker 1: what happens is when you read your life, when you
- 20:43Speaker 1: eradicate your life, when you delete all the knots that
- 20:46Speaker 1: are perpetuating toxicity perpetuating gossiping, perpetuating lives, perpetuating um harm.
- 20:54Speaker 1: You know, when you when you do a great job
- 20:56Speaker 1: at weeding the garden of your of your mind, therefore
- 20:58Speaker 1: the garden of your entire our life, of all the
- 21:01Speaker 1: things that perpetuate harm um, you reach a point. And
- 21:06Speaker 1: there's many layers of this, right, so I'm speaking like
- 21:09Speaker 1: into a degree that I've experienced. You reach a point
- 21:11Speaker 1: of sacred boredom. And then you and then you ask
- 21:14Speaker 1: the teacher or the guru in my case, for more
- 21:17Speaker 1: instructions so you can go deeper, so you can actually
- 21:19Speaker 1: taste the nectar of the sacred boardom, so you can
- 21:21Speaker 1: actually learn something from that space. And then you open
- 21:24Speaker 1: to a whole other level of of all the other
- 21:27Speaker 1: ways that you're creating harm for yourself, and you're creating
- 21:29Speaker 1: harm into the world unintentionally, right we we we we
- 21:32Speaker 1: like to think, uh with Buddhist psychology that we're not
- 21:36Speaker 1: uh intentionally causing harm. That it's based on this like amnesia,
- 21:40Speaker 1: this like forgetfulness that we um that we're that we
- 21:45Speaker 1: forgot who we are, We forgot you know, forgetting who
- 21:49Speaker 1: who the truth of who we are, and forgetting how
- 21:51Speaker 1: to relate to the world causes so much suffering, right,
- 21:55Speaker 1: So I just wanted to sort of go around and
- 21:57Speaker 1: kind of paint a picture about you know, are Matt.
- 22:00Speaker 1: So I did get staggered, and I did reach a
- 22:02Speaker 1: point of the sacred BOARDOM and then I got a
- 22:04Speaker 1: new set of instructures and I'm on it now. It
- 22:06Speaker 1: will take me six years to complete these new set
- 22:08Speaker 1: of instructions. Um, just continue to deepen, continue to deepen,
- 22:13Speaker 1: and continue to to you know, and these practices, what
- 22:17Speaker 1: they're doing is they're they're just showing you your mind.
- 22:21Speaker 1: They're showing you the blind spots. They're helping you to
- 22:24Speaker 1: like get to know the parts of you that you're
- 22:26Speaker 1: still closed off, the parts of you that you're not
- 22:28Speaker 1: willing to look at. Um. So that's that's kind of it.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Does that make sense? I mean does it? Yeah? It
- 22:38Speaker 1: makes beautiful sense. I want it somewhere. I want to
- 22:41Speaker 1: sit with you, saw and I think I know it's
- 22:46Speaker 1: so resonant for me, and I know it's so resonant
- 22:49Speaker 1: for people listening. Um. You know, when we talked about
- 22:53Speaker 1: that initial entry point to spirituality, that feeling of what
- 23:00Speaker 1: I've experienced as a profound against nous of self that
- 23:05Speaker 1: you don't even know how to begin to dissolve and unravel.
- 23:09Speaker 1: You know, I think that feeling. I would just like
- 23:11Speaker 1: to talk about how it felt potentially for you, for
- 23:15Speaker 1: us to even get to the point where we were
- 23:18Speaker 1: willing to dive into that shadow self. But then also
- 23:23Speaker 1: I think the part that's not spoken to enough. Is
- 23:25Speaker 1: it really hard? Hell? Yes? But what makes it simpler
- 23:31Speaker 1: is that pretty soon you start to find this common thread,
- 23:36Speaker 1: this common theme that can either be one the karmic
- 23:40Speaker 1: patterning that you're meant to see and understand so you
- 23:43Speaker 1: know what your mission on Earth is so that you
- 23:46Speaker 1: can begin to transcend it, or two to just notice
- 23:50Speaker 1: how often you lie to yourself about yourself and don't
- 23:53Speaker 1: know where those lies started. And I think you know
- 23:56Speaker 1: what what keeps so many from this path is the
- 24:02Speaker 1: level of the judgment for self and the fear of
- 24:06Speaker 1: people finding out blank supersedes the desire to feel better,
- 24:15Speaker 1: because if you've never felt it, you don't really even
- 24:17Speaker 1: fully believe that it's possible or what that feeling could be, Like,
- 24:22Speaker 1: Oh my god, this is so good. Can I jump
- 24:25Speaker 1: in please? I created a piece of content um that
- 24:32Speaker 1: I just said, no one's coming to punish you. No
- 24:35Speaker 1: one is coming to punish you. And I just repeated
- 24:38Speaker 1: that over and over and over and over again. And
- 24:41Speaker 1: the RiPP boy fact that he had was was wild.
- 24:46Speaker 1: And I think because this the sense, this feeling that
- 24:50Speaker 1: we are inadequate, that we're broken, that we are innately
- 24:53Speaker 1: bad and undeserving, unloving. We have the sense of someone's
- 24:57Speaker 1: coming to find out this this secret about us, this
- 25:03Speaker 1: this deficiency about us, and they're here to out us
- 25:07Speaker 1: and show the world look at this person. They're so deficient,
- 25:10Speaker 1: they're so bad, they're so inadequate, they're so unloving. But
- 25:13Speaker 1: the truth is we are the ones that are in
- 25:17Speaker 1: this constant, perpetual, you know, state of self punishment. You know,
- 25:22Speaker 1: one of the first times that the Lai Lemma came
- 25:24Speaker 1: to the United States to speak, he says, you guys
- 25:26Speaker 1: have uh and not every every time I speak about
- 25:29Speaker 1: my teachers, and every time I share a story on
- 25:31Speaker 1: the podcast anywhere, you're always gonna hear through assassi filter. Right,
- 25:34Speaker 1: So are always gonna be paraphrasing in a way that
- 25:37Speaker 1: I that I I can understand the way that my
- 25:39Speaker 1: audience and my students can understand, Right, so that I
- 25:41Speaker 1: love us Like, yo, you guys hate yourself so much
- 25:45Speaker 1: here in the West. What's up with the self hatred?
- 25:48Speaker 1: Because in the in the East and in that part
- 25:50Speaker 1: of the world, Um, they're they're mental poisons show up
- 25:55Speaker 1: in different ways, right, we do share the same you know,
- 25:58Speaker 1: mental poisons all all sent to all human beings, um,
- 26:03Speaker 1: But for us in the West, shows up with this
- 26:05Speaker 1: like sense of like complete, this desperate need to punish ourselves.
- 26:10Speaker 1: And one thing that liberated me was understanding the true
- 26:13Speaker 1: meaning of the word forgiveness, just to release the desire
- 26:19Speaker 1: to punish. So if you're saying I forgive myself, you're
- 26:23Speaker 1: saying I release the desire to punish myself. And at
- 26:26Speaker 1: that point you didn't thinking that someone's gonna come to
- 26:29Speaker 1: punish you, you know. And then it goes to the
- 26:31Speaker 1: next degree. That's that that that another piece of content
- 26:35Speaker 1: that I created. It was like, there's nothing wrong with you.
- 26:37Speaker 1: There is nothing wrong with you. There is nothing wrong
- 26:40Speaker 1: with you. And I'm not speaking to your circumstances. I'm
- 26:43Speaker 1: not speaking to your condition. Yes, there's a lot wrong,
- 26:45Speaker 1: there's a lot that's potentially wrong there. But the problem
- 26:48Speaker 1: is that we feel that there's something innately wrong with
- 26:51Speaker 1: us at a core level, and that is just the lie.
- 26:55Speaker 1: That is just a faulty lie that's been permeated in
- 27:00Speaker 1: to the collective, and we have believed. And when we
- 27:03Speaker 1: believe that there's something innately wrong with us at the
- 27:06Speaker 1: core of our being, then that breeds shame and hate
- 27:11Speaker 1: and harm and this function and this harmony UM, and
- 27:14Speaker 1: then we create more of that for ourselves. Right. So
- 27:18Speaker 1: the the initial the the initial jump into the path
- 27:24Speaker 1: is looking at that. It's looking at how do we
- 27:27Speaker 1: relate to ourselves? Is looking at like, who do I
- 27:30Speaker 1: think I am at the core of my being? Have
- 27:33Speaker 1: I recognized my basic goodness? Have I touched basic goodness?
- 27:40Speaker 1: Have I experienced the basic goodness at the base of
- 27:42Speaker 1: my being? And unless you have glimpse at that, then
- 27:46Speaker 1: you're never capital in. And I have to say, you
- 27:49Speaker 1: will never see the benevolence of the goodness out of
- 27:52Speaker 1: the world, and you're never going to see the benevolencent
- 27:54Speaker 1: goodness in anyone else. That's just how it is. Period.
- 27:58Speaker 1: We can do a great job about pretending um, but
- 28:02Speaker 1: at the point that pretending culture of good vibes only
- 28:05Speaker 1: a positive only of like this is a pretending, a
- 28:08Speaker 1: culture of pretending. It's not a it's not a culture
- 28:10Speaker 1: of enlightenment, you know, which is what we're what we're
- 28:13Speaker 1: We're here trying to get people to restand. Yes, your
- 28:16Speaker 1: circumstances are sucked up. Yes, your your conditioning is is
- 28:20Speaker 1: struggling and so traumatic, and yes you've lived a life
- 28:24Speaker 1: of so much pain and harm. But none of that
- 28:27Speaker 1: has has has changed the essence of who you are.
- 28:31Speaker 1: None of that has touched the core of we are,
- 28:33Speaker 1: none of it. And we also have to remember that
- 28:36Speaker 1: like a dark cloud can't hurt the sky. And once
- 28:42Speaker 1: we once we recognize that, that's then we have this
- 28:44Speaker 1: spacious awareness. Then we have the the openness two glimpse
- 28:50Speaker 1: of how vast our inner world is and how powerful
- 28:54Speaker 1: what we call in the in the literatures our buddh
- 28:56Speaker 1: and nature is, you know, our true our true nature
- 29:00Speaker 1: is how how how miraculous and untouched it is, it's unfazed.
- 29:06Speaker 1: And our work is to you know, two, the layer,
- 29:10Speaker 1: you know, to peel away the layers of conditioning, and
- 29:13Speaker 1: then to uncover more of that. And the seed is there, right,
- 29:16Speaker 1: the seed is never is never torn. But it is
- 29:20Speaker 1: our job to develop it. You know, it is our
- 29:23Speaker 1: job to take care of our inner worlds, like we
- 29:25Speaker 1: have to become master botanists, you know, we have to
- 29:29Speaker 1: become master gardeners of our inner world, Like we have
- 29:32Speaker 1: to every single day go into the garden of our
- 29:34Speaker 1: mind and weed out seeds of suffering, seeds of despair,
- 29:37Speaker 1: seeds of depression, seeds of anxiety, seeds of addiction. And
- 29:40Speaker 1: what are the seeds of love, compassion, wisdom and joy?
- 29:44Speaker 1: Um I spoke about this today. Actually, you can't meditate
- 29:47Speaker 1: once a week and expect things to change. You can't
- 29:49Speaker 1: eat one health in me and expect things to change.
- 29:51Speaker 1: You can't exercise once once in a whine and expect
- 29:54Speaker 1: things to change. Like but you do a great job
- 29:57Speaker 1: at brushing your teeth every day, in your hair every day,
- 30:01Speaker 1: putting on a whole look every day, giving a full
- 30:04Speaker 1: face to the outside world. But you're you're allowing only
- 30:09Speaker 1: what you see, you know, eyes with eyes in your
- 30:11Speaker 1: face to dictate the quality of your life. But you're
- 30:14Speaker 1: your your your misinterpreting, and you're forgetting that what you
- 30:18Speaker 1: can't see, what the eyes in your face, you're inner
- 30:20Speaker 1: world really is what dictates the quality of your life period.
- 30:25Speaker 1: So there's a lot, there's a lot there that we
- 30:27Speaker 1: could that we could talk about. But I think understanding
- 30:32Speaker 1: how to relate to our basic goodness is very vital.
- 30:35Speaker 1: And I see so much in the world of Instagram well,
- 30:39Speaker 1: and it's instag in spirutuality, people saying this person's toxic.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Have these boundaries protect yourself, and these people are this
- 30:46Speaker 1: thing and those people are that thing. It's like, this
- 30:49Speaker 1: is this limited approach, you know, it's it's keeping us separate,
- 30:53Speaker 1: it's keeping us in dualism, it's keeping us in this
- 30:56Speaker 1: binary approach. It's keeping us um in every patch of
- 31:00Speaker 1: state of pain. You know, like that does that make sense? Yes?
- 31:09Speaker 1: Are you really asking that that make sense? You know?
- 31:13Speaker 1: I'm so I've just been I've just been so trained
- 31:16Speaker 1: with my teachers to always ask every every time you
- 31:18Speaker 1: feel like you finished something, to always say, are recommunicating?
- 31:21Speaker 1: Does that make sense? Are real landing? Are re arriving somewhere?
- 31:24Speaker 1: Because there's so much and I see so often, So
- 31:28Speaker 1: it's it's part partially me asking that. It's just my
- 31:30Speaker 1: conditioning um, because when we're speaking in large audiences and
- 31:35Speaker 1: we ask people what is meditation? Oh, it's it's I
- 31:38Speaker 1: meditate what I'm painting. Okay, so you've never meditated before? Then?
- 31:42Speaker 1: Oh what is compassion? Oh, it's it's it's that you know,
- 31:45Speaker 1: it's that love that I have for my children. Oh
- 31:47Speaker 1: so you have never experienced compassion. So it's the reason
- 31:51Speaker 1: why I'm always saying, does that make sense? Very communicator arriving,
- 31:54Speaker 1: because it's we have such mismisguided meanings for a very profound,
- 32:00Speaker 1: simple topics that I'm always like, girl, we arrive somewhere, Honey,
- 32:03Speaker 1: are we Lendy? Are we there yet? You know that? No?
- 32:06Speaker 1: And I'm so grateful for that because I think what's
- 32:08Speaker 1: so important too with this work it is checking in
- 32:12Speaker 1: and not assuming that people understand what we're talking about,
- 32:16Speaker 1: and not just as teachers, but even in the conversations
- 32:19Speaker 1: we have with our families, right, because everyone's lens of
- 32:22Speaker 1: hearing or receiving a message is always peppered with life experience.
- 32:27Speaker 1: It's always you know, I could use I could use
- 32:30Speaker 1: the word love, and for someone else that could have
- 32:32Speaker 1: been a word that was weaponized and brings up a
- 32:34Speaker 1: completely different feeling or understanding. Right. So no, I'm grateful
- 32:39Speaker 1: for that. But I think really when when you ask
- 32:41Speaker 1: me that question, I was also like, I just ate
- 32:45Speaker 1: a feast. I need a second. That was such a
- 32:51Speaker 1: glorious feast. Saw, it was such a glorious feast, truly,
- 32:56Speaker 1: and I think, you know it really it really hits,
- 33:00Speaker 1: it really hits the nail on the head. I think
- 33:04Speaker 1: of how I'd at least really hope and desire for
- 33:08Speaker 1: people to begin to explore themselves. You know, Um, I
- 33:12Speaker 1: think for us, and this is something that we speak to.
- 33:14Speaker 1: And this is not at all a judgment of anybody
- 33:17Speaker 1: that's led to do anything, because everything is in divine
- 33:22Speaker 1: time and in divine order, and so you know, I
- 33:25Speaker 1: think there's still lots of purpose. Everything is getting young, right,
- 33:29Speaker 1: so there is like the pieces we resonate with and
- 33:31Speaker 1: the pieces that we don't. No industry alive is devoid
- 33:34Speaker 1: of that. No, no personal family structure, um, but something
- 33:39Speaker 1: we do speak to it It is that I you know,
- 33:41Speaker 1: I worry because I think that I think people I
- 33:46Speaker 1: think there is some weaponizing of spirituality that in fact
- 33:51Speaker 1: is spiritual narcissism and spiritual bypassing. And I think a
- 33:55Speaker 1: lot of people are performatively regurgitating information they've heard the
- 34:00Speaker 1: embodiment stage is so important. Everyone has to experience it.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Now that may not be in alignment with how quickly
- 34:08Speaker 1: you'd like to make money in this space, or how
- 34:11Speaker 1: quickly you'd like to prepare you know, potentially some coursework
- 34:14Speaker 1: or some you know, different offerings. Yeah, because you're also
- 34:20Speaker 1: messing with your karma. You're also really messing with your
- 34:23Speaker 1: karma if you were entering other people's minds and heart
- 34:26Speaker 1: spaces and are not fully equipped to do so, and
- 34:29Speaker 1: there's no shame in it, and it's okay it comes.
- 34:33Speaker 1: But you have to embody your own healing to even
- 34:36Speaker 1: understand how the healing works so that you can extend
- 34:40Speaker 1: it to others. You know, And even healing has been
- 34:43Speaker 1: so like appropriated, like that word. It's like, you know,
- 34:46Speaker 1: healing isn't just saying like, yes, I've healed that, or
- 34:49Speaker 1: you know, yeah, I'm in forgiveness like healing that. Truly,
- 34:53Speaker 1: if we're gonna go there, let's go deep for a second.
- 34:58Speaker 1: When I heal some of my greatest trauma, I have
- 35:02Speaker 1: restructured my cells. I have redesigned myself energetically, physically, biologically,
- 35:10Speaker 1: as well as in the ethers, as well as as
- 35:13Speaker 1: it relates to my karma and my course curriculum as
- 35:17Speaker 1: a soul that is not attached to a body. But
- 35:19Speaker 1: then I've also healed the body, and so that doesn't
- 35:23Speaker 1: happen after reading one book. Potentially it could listen there
- 35:26Speaker 1: are you know, there are a few, but you know,
- 35:30Speaker 1: one and seven billion potentially, But you know, and so
- 35:34Speaker 1: I think that is part of the grace that we
- 35:36Speaker 1: extend to ourselves to knowing that every layer that we're
- 35:39Speaker 1: able to access in ourselves through our practice, there's also
- 35:43Speaker 1: opportunity to deepen it. I've revisited healing recently around certain
- 35:48Speaker 1: ages that I thought I was fully integrated with because
- 35:53Speaker 1: I started working on it ten years ago and I
- 35:57Speaker 1: was for the versions of myself that I've been thus
- 36:00Speaker 1: are this new DEVI It requires something else. So there
- 36:03Speaker 1: was little small refinements that came on that same lesson.
- 36:07Speaker 1: There were new interpretations based on who I am now
- 36:10Speaker 1: that further inform who I'm able to be in the
- 36:13Speaker 1: world and how I'm able to teach. And so you know,
- 36:16Speaker 1: it's just at least the way that I'm experiencing. Um.
- 36:19Speaker 1: I think we kind of started this beautiful piece really
- 36:22Speaker 1: an understanding that the grandest barrier to our own healing
- 36:28Speaker 1: is our own against us, of ourselves. But then it's
- 36:32Speaker 1: it's still even as you're healing, knowing that there is
- 36:35Speaker 1: always opportunity to deepen it. There is all like the
- 36:39Speaker 1: amount of layers that we can come through on the
- 36:42Speaker 1: same subject are endless, they're bountiful um, and so surrendering
- 36:47Speaker 1: to that as part of the journey is where the
- 36:50Speaker 1: gift is. But if we're so consumed with our ego identification,
- 36:54Speaker 1: with how together we are, how healed we are, even
- 36:56Speaker 1: how much spiritual knowledge we have, if you could be
- 37:00Speaker 1: practicing this work for fifty years and there's still more
- 37:05Speaker 1: places for you to go with it, there's still more
- 37:07Speaker 1: to be learned, there's still new opportunities to transform even
- 37:11Speaker 1: the smallest pieces, because if there weren't, you would not
- 37:15Speaker 1: be occupying space on Earth right now. If there's tension
- 37:19Speaker 1: in the mind, and if there's tension in the body,
- 37:23Speaker 1: there's work to do, you know, just like use that
- 37:26Speaker 1: as your guiding force, as your orientention. You know, if
- 37:29Speaker 1: there is any sort of tension and the minder and
- 37:32Speaker 1: a body, there's work to be done, There's liberation to
- 37:36Speaker 1: be had, there's revelations to be experienced, you know, So
- 37:40Speaker 1: think about it like that, and and and when there's tension,
- 37:43Speaker 1: there's attachment. When there's attachment, there's a version. When there's
- 37:47Speaker 1: a version, there's ignorance. So you're looking at the poisons, right, Attachment,
- 37:51Speaker 1: a version, and ignorance the root cause of all of
- 37:54Speaker 1: our suffering. Um So, what we're looking at the at
- 37:57Speaker 1: the sort of like trifecta of poison. The way for
- 38:02Speaker 1: you to realize if you still have ignorance inside of you,
- 38:04Speaker 1: you have attachment inside of youth used to have a
- 38:07Speaker 1: version inside of you. And I know attachment is in
- 38:10Speaker 1: in the in the psychological the modern psychological space. It's
- 38:16Speaker 1: used as sometimes as a healthy thing. I have a
- 38:20Speaker 1: healthy attachment. But according to the Buddha, who I believe
- 38:24Speaker 1: is one of the first psychologists psychoanalysts, um attachment is
- 38:28Speaker 1: this insatiable thirst. You know, it's just like insatiable craving,
- 38:33Speaker 1: this desperate need to change our experiences, this um this
- 38:38Speaker 1: sense of this satisfaction. It's always pervasive. You know, if
- 38:43Speaker 1: there is that there's work to be done, you know,
- 38:46Speaker 1: um so e gauging the assension and my attention about it,
- 38:49Speaker 1: then there's still ignorance, there's still attachment, there's still a version. Um.
- 38:52Speaker 1: So just when you're thinking about attachment, you want to
- 38:56Speaker 1: use the word that the Buddha use. We're looking at
- 38:59Speaker 1: this like pervasive sense gratification. We are we're misinterpreting a
- 39:04Speaker 1: sugar rush for genuine happiness. So we have to just
- 39:09Speaker 1: keep thinking about it like that. Um. I have so
- 39:11Speaker 1: much attachment, that's so much a versions, so much ignorous
- 39:15Speaker 1: to go. And what I do have now is it's
- 39:19Speaker 1: a quick way back into the center. That's what I have.
- 39:23Speaker 1: It's I I don't dwell in either extremes attachment meaning
- 39:28Speaker 1: I need this cake and I need to eat the
- 39:30Speaker 1: entire cake, or a version get this person away from me.
- 39:32Speaker 1: They're just so cause of my measure pushed that person far,
- 39:35Speaker 1: far far away from me. I don't go into those
- 39:39Speaker 1: extremes for too long. That's what I have now. You know,
- 39:43Speaker 1: it's sometimes it's a couple of hours, sometimes it's thirty minutes.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Sometimes it's literally one breath and I'm back in my center. Um.
- 39:51Speaker 1: And you know, there's there was maybe a couple of
- 39:55Speaker 1: years that I spent with suicide of depression, still deep
- 39:58Speaker 1: in my practice, you going into ashrooms and monasteries and
- 40:02Speaker 1: seeing the groups and practicing, practicing, practicing become I became
- 40:06Speaker 1: like a ceaseless prayer, you know. And that's how he
- 40:09Speaker 1: sort of like erupted the next stage of my evolution.
- 40:12Speaker 1: That's how I've really found my center. But I did
- 40:14Speaker 1: spend a couple of years, uh, profoundly dark years where
- 40:19Speaker 1: suicidal thoughts were like every third thought was like, there's
- 40:22Speaker 1: no point, just just do it, just go and planning
- 40:25Speaker 1: and that kind of I'm thinking. But now it's not
- 40:30Speaker 1: there anymore. Even when those thoughts do visit way, even
- 40:32Speaker 1: when there is, um something really traumatic happening in our
- 40:37Speaker 1: in my in my inner world, in my external world,
- 40:40Speaker 1: I have the ability to find my center. Yeah that okay,
- 40:45Speaker 1: hold on, we sit in here, because that is hold
- 40:55Speaker 1: that thought, we are coming right back. H That is
- 41:08Speaker 1: so beyond powerful and I think so resonant for so
- 41:11Speaker 1: many What does that I'd be grateful for any deeper
- 41:20Speaker 1: insights saw into how you held space for yourself in
- 41:23Speaker 1: that way while navigating truly um, you know, some of
- 41:29Speaker 1: the darkest emotions that are available to us in human form,
- 41:33Speaker 1: but also still being active in your present, like those
- 41:37Speaker 1: are in your practice. Excuse me, those are such opposite
- 41:42Speaker 1: ends of the spectrum or maybe not, you know, so,
- 41:45Speaker 1: just any any thoughts on the way that you experienced
- 41:50Speaker 1: a container that complex. There's a lot of there's there's
- 41:55Speaker 1: a lot of layers, right, So I'm gonna try to
- 41:57Speaker 1: just kind of like go piece by peace and maybe
- 42:01Speaker 1: I'll cover, you know, ground enough that people are gonna
- 42:05Speaker 1: be like, oh, ship, that's juicy, I can use that.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Um First, when you're experiencing suicidal ideation, you have to
- 42:11Speaker 1: recognize it's not your whole self that wants to die.
- 42:14Speaker 1: It's a part of you that's ready to die. The
- 42:16Speaker 1: problem is we're holding on to an identity. We're holding
- 42:20Speaker 1: onto a past version of ourselves, and we can't hold
- 42:23Speaker 1: onto the past. You know, leaves fall off the tree,
- 42:27Speaker 1: and the tree is not reaching down trying to hold
- 42:29Speaker 1: onto the leaves they're falling. That's what we're doing. You know.
- 42:32Speaker 1: That causes so much pain. We're not moving with the
- 42:36Speaker 1: transient nature of life. We're not moving with the changing
- 42:39Speaker 1: nature of all of life. That causes a lot of
- 42:42Speaker 1: imbalance in the mind and the body. Right, So, suicidal ideation,
- 42:47Speaker 1: at its core, it's it's you. It's it's it's actually
- 42:51Speaker 1: a revelatory, liberatory process because you're recognize, you're in full
- 42:56Speaker 1: recognition that some part of you is ready to die.
- 42:58Speaker 1: So it's it's being anointed by death, which is opens
- 43:03Speaker 1: you up to to realize how holy and how miraculous
- 43:06Speaker 1: and how grand and powerful you really are. So we
- 43:09Speaker 1: have that as a context foundation, right, then we have
- 43:13Speaker 1: to use the power of self something of of of
- 43:17Speaker 1: of comforting ourselves, of becoming our own best friend. So
- 43:21Speaker 1: one thing a mantra that I use is I make
- 43:24Speaker 1: peace with this feeling. I make peace with this feeling.
- 43:29Speaker 1: And um, it's worked wonders for me. It's literally been
- 43:33Speaker 1: like a magic pill. And I there's there's Usually you
- 43:36Speaker 1: will never hear me say there's a magic pill, because
- 43:38Speaker 1: there's like a multiplicity of of of of things that
- 43:42Speaker 1: have to come to into synergy, into congruency in order
- 43:46Speaker 1: for unlocking to happen. But the simple set of words
- 43:50Speaker 1: and make peace with this feeling opens the door for
- 43:53Speaker 1: for that feeling to die, for that feeling to move,
- 43:56Speaker 1: for something else to come up. Right, you, when you're
- 43:58Speaker 1: saying and make peace with this to your your you're
- 44:01Speaker 1: putting your finger on the pole. So everyone who I
- 44:06Speaker 1: love and everyone who I don't love will be born,
- 44:10Speaker 1: will die, and we'll be reborn again. Right, this this
- 44:13Speaker 1: sort of cycle of life, death and rebirth. When you
- 44:16Speaker 1: were saying, I make peace with the ceiling, you're you're
- 44:18Speaker 1: you're coming in close contact, you're intimately experience the transient
- 44:22Speaker 1: nature of all of life. Right because you're saying, Okay,
- 44:24Speaker 1: thank you, you came. You taught me a lesson. I've
- 44:27Speaker 1: learned the less of integrated the lesson. I'll thank you
- 44:29Speaker 1: very much. Be well now, so I make this with
- 44:31Speaker 1: that with this feeling opens the door for that. And
- 44:33Speaker 1: I usually put like right hand over my chest, left
- 44:36Speaker 1: hand over my belly, or both hands over my heart whatever,
- 44:40Speaker 1: you know, sometimes it's in my throat and the back
- 44:42Speaker 1: wherever you are experiencing this intense sensation, this feeling, go there,
- 44:48Speaker 1: and then the next stage is to is to do
- 44:50Speaker 1: your best effort to start to this mental the feelings
- 44:55Speaker 1: the emotions from the stories, like drop the story right,
- 45:00Speaker 1: be with the feeling. Drop the story, be with the feeling.
- 45:04Speaker 1: And I believe I learned this from premature drunk uh
- 45:07Speaker 1: pamma is an impectable Buddhist teacher. Um, I believe I
- 45:10Speaker 1: learned that from her. I'm not sure exactly. This is
- 45:13Speaker 1: very big in Buddhist psychology to dismantle, right, because in
- 45:17Speaker 1: Buddhist psychology, what some of the literature says that feelings
- 45:20Speaker 1: arise first, and then thoughts claim the meaning of that feeling,
- 45:24Speaker 1: and then we speak or we and we act. Right. So,
- 45:28Speaker 1: one thing that I heard a story about the Buddha
- 45:30Speaker 1: that one of the things that he noticed when he
- 45:32Speaker 1: became fully in line, he said he could see thoughts
- 45:34Speaker 1: before they manifest. How wonderful would that be, you know,
- 45:37Speaker 1: to be able to see a motherfucker turn in the
- 45:39Speaker 1: corner before it hits you, You know what I mean?
- 45:42Speaker 1: I like that? So thinking about it like that, you know?
- 45:45Speaker 1: So this mentally feelings from thoughts, right, because the feeling,
- 45:52Speaker 1: that sensation in the body. Um, oftentimes we have a
- 45:57Speaker 1: hard wired story associated to that. Even years after I
- 46:01Speaker 1: had to transformed my mind and liberated myself from suicide
- 46:04Speaker 1: of ideation, when I had that buzzing, yucky anxiety in
- 46:08Speaker 1: my belly, there was still a few times that the
- 46:10Speaker 1: initial store will be oak side of thoughts. Oh that
- 46:14Speaker 1: this feeling is this, this narrative. This feeling is situated
- 46:17Speaker 1: with this story. So what I want you to do
- 46:20Speaker 1: is I want you to um relearn how to breathe
- 46:24Speaker 1: in such a way like and I say relearn is
- 46:27Speaker 1: go instead of breathing twelve to sixteen times per minute,
- 46:30Speaker 1: which is the ordinarily anxious, depressed breath, which is very covicular,
- 46:35Speaker 1: very short and shallow breath, and entered to the healing breath,
- 46:38Speaker 1: which is four to six times per minutes, which is
- 46:40Speaker 1: the very deep abdominal belly breath. Right. Relearn how to
- 46:46Speaker 1: breathe so much so that when an intense feeling arises,
- 46:49Speaker 1: you have enough what we say is equanimity, right psychological
- 46:53Speaker 1: stability to be with the feeling and not get taken
- 46:57Speaker 1: by the stories associated with it. And the only way
- 47:00Speaker 1: for you to create the container, your inner working stage
- 47:03Speaker 1: and your inner container for you to be able to
- 47:05Speaker 1: do that is accessing a healing breath. That's how I
- 47:09Speaker 1: seem to work um So, and then I mean, so
- 47:13Speaker 1: we're looking at being anointed by death. We're looking at
- 47:16Speaker 1: um making making peace with it, with the feeling I
- 47:18Speaker 1: make peace with the feeling that we're looking at dismantling
- 47:21Speaker 1: feelings with the narrative. Um. These are some of the
- 47:24Speaker 1: ways that have really helped me to to this mantle, UM,
- 47:29Speaker 1: how I relate to challenging feelings. And this is the
- 47:32Speaker 1: way that I started to to change how I relate
- 47:34Speaker 1: to um to the idea that certain feelings are o
- 47:37Speaker 1: kay to have in certain feelings are not you know,
- 47:39Speaker 1: these are good feelings, are bad feelings. And then I
- 47:42Speaker 1: entered to this next stage of my evolution where like
- 47:46Speaker 1: all feelings are welcome. It's really it's really what I
- 47:49Speaker 1: make out of it, you know. And then we recognize
- 47:52Speaker 1: that we it's because of our condition, because of our
- 47:55Speaker 1: past pain and and and all of our karma where
- 48:00Speaker 1: hatching certain meaning to certain experiences, right. Um. And it's
- 48:04Speaker 1: very interesting when you study trauma and you work with
- 48:06Speaker 1: with Polly trauma survivors. Right, some people have had the
- 48:10Speaker 1: most horrific experiences, and these motherfuckers are thriving. Someone might
- 48:17Speaker 1: say that that one thing that that happened to them
- 48:20Speaker 1: is a hundred it's a fifty weight or a hundredweight.
- 48:24Speaker 1: And for that person who's had to Polly trauma, multiple
- 48:26Speaker 1: traumas happened to them, you know, So it's all relative.
- 48:30Speaker 1: What I'm speaking to. It's like, it's really like the
- 48:32Speaker 1: meaning that you give is based on the depth of
- 48:35Speaker 1: your liberation, you know, So thinking about it like that, um,
- 48:39Speaker 1: and I know it's kind of black and white, and
- 48:41Speaker 1: I don't like to give black and white teachers, but
- 48:42Speaker 1: sometimes you really have to sort of like enter to
- 48:45Speaker 1: that space and be like, Okay, I'm associating negative, destructive,
- 48:49Speaker 1: harmful meaning to every single circumstance in my life, to
- 48:52Speaker 1: every single feeling, to every single thought, to every single thing.
- 48:55Speaker 1: And I'm and you're telling everybody else in yourself that
- 48:58Speaker 1: you're doing the work. I'm gonna challenge you and say, Babe,
- 49:02Speaker 1: if you're associating these harmful meanings to every single thing
- 49:06Speaker 1: in your internal, internal life and external life as bad, harmful, destructive,
- 49:11Speaker 1: then you gotta pivot your inner life. Your inner work
- 49:14Speaker 1: needs a change. And what I always tell people is like,
- 49:18Speaker 1: focus on the simplicity, focus on repetitive of simple practice.
- 49:24Speaker 1: You know, repetition of simplicity leads celeberation. Coming back to that, right,
- 49:30Speaker 1: coming back to that, Repetition of simplicity leads celeberation. So
- 49:34Speaker 1: if I'm if any of these things that I offer
- 49:36Speaker 1: you today, they land, do them consistently for a few years.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Don't try to go to another podcast, to another book,
- 49:43Speaker 1: to another this sort of it's stop approaching healing through
- 49:46Speaker 1: a consumeristic, capitalistic approach. Like you know, when I used
- 49:50Speaker 1: to work in fashion, I used to like literally go
- 49:53Speaker 1: every season, good at the whole closet, and I have
- 49:56Speaker 1: to go and get a whole new thing, and get
- 49:58Speaker 1: a whole new season, get a whole new war drop
- 50:00Speaker 1: and get a whole new You know, there's no I
- 50:02Speaker 1: couldn't work with the same tools in every single season.
- 50:07Speaker 1: But in the spiritual work, we have to recognize that
- 50:10Speaker 1: there is a set of simple practices that work for
- 50:13Speaker 1: us in every season and certain seasons. The way these
- 50:17Speaker 1: simple practices will work for you will give you more.
- 50:21Speaker 1: They will open you up to deeper and deeper seats
- 50:23Speaker 1: of awakening because those seasons are lighter um and there's
- 50:27Speaker 1: more blossoming, there's a bigger harvest. Some seasons are darker
- 50:31Speaker 1: and more intense and more challenging, and there's not as
- 50:33Speaker 1: much blossoming. That doesn't mean that these simple practice are
- 50:36Speaker 1: is not working. It just means you gotta ride the way.
- 50:40Speaker 1: You know, nothing blooms all year but the simplicity of
- 50:43Speaker 1: the practice what I need people to recognize it. If
- 50:46Speaker 1: there's anything that I teach, they that lands for people.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Focus on simplicity. And it may be like, SA, what
- 50:51Speaker 1: are who are you saying that? When you are when
- 50:53Speaker 1: you study Vidrayana, which is such a complex, mystical you know,
- 50:57Speaker 1: a tradition that's so much richer, there's so so many
- 51:00Speaker 1: you know, bells and whistles and so many layers to it. Yeah.
- 51:04Speaker 1: I didn't start there. I didn't start there, you know
- 51:06Speaker 1: what I mean. I started with zen, I I moved.
- 51:09Speaker 1: I started with just the breath, just the concentration technique,
- 51:13Speaker 1: just you know, it's the simplicity to then build, then
- 51:16Speaker 1: you build. That's that's that's really I think thinking about
- 51:21Speaker 1: the container to liberation in very dark seasons, very challenging seasons. Um, simplicity,
- 51:28Speaker 1: but consistency. Stop being consistent to your pain narrative. Be
- 51:33Speaker 1: consistent to uncovering your truth. You know. Um, I think
- 51:37Speaker 1: we see so much in the world today and I
- 51:40Speaker 1: applaud it. I think it's brave that people are using there,
- 51:44Speaker 1: are approaching their pain narratives and their mental health issues. UM.
- 51:53Speaker 1: From a brave perspective, what is what? What do I
- 51:55Speaker 1: mean by that that they're speaking about? It's a very brave.
- 51:58Speaker 1: And then there is there the spiritual point that has
- 52:01Speaker 1: to come into the picture. There is the stop over
- 52:03Speaker 1: the identifying with your depression, stop over the identifying with
- 52:07Speaker 1: your addiction, stop over the identifying with your anxiety. Yes,
- 52:11Speaker 1: a part of me is experiencing depression, A part of
- 52:14Speaker 1: me is anxious, part of me is addictive. But that
- 52:17Speaker 1: part of you isn't the whole of you are. And
- 52:19Speaker 1: I always remember that. I always remember that, right, you know,
- 52:22Speaker 1: like it's it's a part of me. It's not the
- 52:23Speaker 1: whole of who I am like that like that. Mm hmm, wow,
- 52:35Speaker 1: I love you. I love you, thank you, thank you,
- 52:39Speaker 1: thank you. That was mm hmm. Girl, you let me speak, honey,
- 52:46Speaker 1: she goes off, she goes off on me over here.
- 52:52Speaker 1: It was just so masterful, so masterful, so beautiful what
- 52:58Speaker 1: you shared, so tan dorble. I feel that everything that
- 53:02Speaker 1: you just said could be smell, tasted, scene, felt um,
- 53:10Speaker 1: And I think I'm just kind of I can't help myself.
- 53:14Speaker 1: My body just responds by closing my eyes. You guys
- 53:16Speaker 1: can't hear me listening, but I had my eyes closed
- 53:19Speaker 1: for like ten minutes, um. But that's how I connect
- 53:23Speaker 1: and I hear God and it just you know, so
- 53:25Speaker 1: I think that I think everything you just stared shared
- 53:31Speaker 1: perfectly expressed. Why you are who you are, why you
- 53:36Speaker 1: are where you are, and how necessary, how beautifully necessary
- 53:43Speaker 1: your mind, your heart, your work, art to this world.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Thank you if I love it, thank you, thank you,
- 53:50Speaker 1: thank you. Can I share a little something please that
- 53:54Speaker 1: we didn't get to talk about when you mentioned the book.
- 53:57Speaker 1: Spiritually Sassy was born out of a desperate need to
- 54:06Speaker 1: show that the spiritual path, that the path of liberation,
- 54:11Speaker 1: doesn't need to be rooted on zombies in this forced seriousness.
- 54:18Speaker 1: You know, someone makes a beautiful joke and you're like
- 54:21Speaker 1: mm hmm. Someone plays beautiful music, and you just kind
- 54:24Speaker 1: of move, you know, like very lightly. You don't really
- 54:28Speaker 1: enjoy the beach. You don't allow your body to be
- 54:30Speaker 1: moved by it. Someone speaks beautiful poetry into the world,
- 54:35Speaker 1: and you don't really allow yourself to be moved. And
- 54:38Speaker 1: you think that dressing in that way and speaking in
- 54:42Speaker 1: the in in in a certain way, and and looking
- 54:45Speaker 1: spiritual and speaking spiritual and eating spiritual, and and you know,
- 54:50Speaker 1: you're you're utilizing this this um, this facade um which
- 54:57Speaker 1: I call zombie sin, which I was for a wife.
- 54:59Speaker 1: You saw me in India a few years ago, girl,
- 55:01Speaker 1: I was that, you know, wearing all white, with the
- 55:04Speaker 1: all the mala beads, with all the crystals, you know,
- 55:06Speaker 1: bare feet, like the whole thing. I was giving the
- 55:09Speaker 1: whole Lookie Bevy Brown would walk by and I could,
- 55:11Speaker 1: I wouldn't give her a compliment. I would just be like,
- 55:13Speaker 1: mm hmm. But now I see that being like, bitch,
- 55:16Speaker 1: you're fucking legend, iconic, delicious, You're seducing the gods, you're
- 55:20Speaker 1: changing the paradigm, you're literally giving life to the world.
- 55:24Speaker 1: I will never stop myself from from offering poetry, from
- 55:28Speaker 1: offering compliment in that way, you know. But I was.
- 55:32Speaker 1: I was so caught up in what I had believed
- 55:36Speaker 1: a spiritual seeker should look like, should sound like. And
- 55:41Speaker 1: because that's what I that's what I was like normalized
- 55:43Speaker 1: in the space. Right look a look this way, speak
- 55:46Speaker 1: that way, eat this way. Just fit the mold of
- 55:49Speaker 1: the zombies in and there's nothing wrong with that. Um.
- 55:53Speaker 1: And if you're looking for something else, if you're looking
- 55:57Speaker 1: for a home, that you haven't found out there before.
- 56:01Speaker 1: Maybe spiritual Sassy's for you, you know, um and and
- 56:04Speaker 1: so that's kind of like the dismantling that this zombies
- 56:09Speaker 1: then is. You know, the more zombies than you are,
- 56:12Speaker 1: the more spiritually liberated you are. I'm on the other
- 56:15Speaker 1: side saying, the bigger your smile is, you know, the
- 56:19Speaker 1: more your presence radiates joy, the more you emanate creativity
- 56:25Speaker 1: and curiosity and beauty, the more liberated you are. Um. So,
- 56:30Speaker 1: But and then there's this, you know, there's a little
- 56:33Speaker 1: bit of a great area, like a muddy area with this.
- 56:35Speaker 1: People think that it's about then looking great. Yes, look great,
- 56:40Speaker 1: give a fantasy, you know, put on a fantasy to
- 56:43Speaker 1: the world that's beautiful. But but make sure that you're
- 56:45Speaker 1: inner world matches that make sure that you're inner world
- 56:49Speaker 1: is incongruency with what you're putting out into the world.
- 56:53Speaker 1: So spiritually Sassy is about, you know, feeling great, looking great,
- 56:58Speaker 1: and most importantly doing great. Like understanding that the whole
- 57:02Speaker 1: purpose of the path is to become more altruistic, you know,
- 57:06Speaker 1: is to really understand that happiness is not in what
- 57:09Speaker 1: I shared earlier, in the in the sense gratifications happiness
- 57:13Speaker 1: is not about pleasing our sense about seeing nice things
- 57:16Speaker 1: here nice things, tasting nice things, um, smelling nice things,
- 57:20Speaker 1: feeling nice things, thinking that. It's not about that. It's
- 57:23Speaker 1: not about quenching the thirst of our senses. Right, happiness
- 57:27Speaker 1: about serving others. Genuine happiness only arise at the base
- 57:31Speaker 1: of your being in service to others. Period. People don't
- 57:36Speaker 1: want to hear that. They want to hear that the
- 57:39Speaker 1: they want to hear other things. But when you're studying
- 57:42Speaker 1: the ancient scriptures um, especially in my lineage, right in Buddhism,
- 57:49Speaker 1: you you come to you come to a halt, to
- 57:51Speaker 1: come to a corner where you do enough inner work.
- 57:55Speaker 1: You you transform your mind enough, you energize your body enough,
- 57:58Speaker 1: you open your heart enough, and then you you reach
- 58:00Speaker 1: this point that the only way for you to take
- 58:02Speaker 1: your your transformation to the next degreeing for you to
- 58:05Speaker 1: really experience this blissful nature that we are. It's only
- 58:11Speaker 1: in serving others. It's only in sharing with others what
- 58:16Speaker 1: you've learned. Being in service to other you find the
- 58:18Speaker 1: missing pieces to your healing. It's the missing piece to
- 58:21Speaker 1: your puzzle, to your healing puzzle that you haven't be
- 58:24Speaker 1: having be able to find anywhere you will find God
- 58:27Speaker 1: in service. You find that peace and service. So don't
- 58:32Speaker 1: don't hold back. You know, I say to people all
- 58:33Speaker 1: the time, if you're running over on on your street
- 58:38Speaker 1: walking to reach get to Debby's meditation class, um, you know,
- 58:43Speaker 1: or to get to Debbie's talk, I guarantee that that
- 58:47Speaker 1: won't be happy that you didn't stop to give a
- 58:50Speaker 1: blessing to the homeless person on the street. You know,
- 58:53Speaker 1: she would rather you stop and be twenty minutes later
- 58:55Speaker 1: her class because you said I'm late, Because I was.
- 58:59Speaker 1: I was. I was the alloping my altruistic tendencies. I
- 59:01Speaker 1: was developing my saintliness. And then show up to the class,
- 59:05Speaker 1: and then you may miss, you may miss half of
- 59:06Speaker 1: the class. But I guarantee that whatever you heard, it
- 59:09Speaker 1: will it will be. You would actually be listening through
- 59:12Speaker 1: the sound of love. You would actually be seen through
- 59:15Speaker 1: the eyes of love. So it's just a different kind
- 59:17Speaker 1: of it's just a different kind of depth of liberation, right.
- 59:21Speaker 1: Um uh, there is a level of selfishness that we
- 59:25Speaker 1: have to demand our happiness, we have to demand our liberation.
- 59:27Speaker 1: We have to demand our liberation. So that means you
- 59:30Speaker 1: do have to take time to be in alignment right,
- 59:34Speaker 1: and then the next stage is all about service. And
- 59:38Speaker 1: people ask me about what is what is what does
- 59:40Speaker 1: it mean to being balanced? And I say, balance means
- 59:44Speaker 1: that you have mastered how to take care of others.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Why I'm taking care of yourself. So this beautiful events
- 59:51Speaker 1: of serving others and serving yourself right, and that is
- 59:55Speaker 1: where genuine happiness, uh will fully blossom. And then you're
- 59:59Speaker 1: gonna look at the garden you of your mind and like,
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: holy funk, look at all these beautiful, amazing fruit trees
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: that I get to sit around and eat all day. Now.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: So that's the work, right, that's the work. Um. So
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: like that? Oh like that? Oh yeah, no big deal,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: no big deal, just a roadmap to your higher consciousness
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: and your complete and total return to wholeness. No, biggie,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: I love you, thank you. Oh my god, that was exquisite.

- 1:00:41Speaker 1: way of being. Um yeah, I just see God all
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: in and through you when I look at you, when
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: I'm able to feast upon you and I'm able to
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: be blessed by your words and your existence. Thank you
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: so much for that depth of knowledge and just the
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: way that you so beauty beutifully make it glimpsible, tasteable.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: I think for everyone on their road, on their journey,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: wherever they find themselves, like you are such a such
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: a powerful presence on earth. Oh my god, girls, stop it,
