- 0:02Speaker 1: This is Teddy Teapod. Guys, welcome to this week's Teddy Teapot.
- 0:12Speaker 1: It's gonna be a good one because I know so
- 0:15Speaker 1: many of you are in that like master panic zone
- 0:19Speaker 1: because you probably haven't finished your holiday shopping and those
- 0:23Speaker 1: of you who have. This is a great episode anyway,
- 0:26Speaker 1: because these are such good gift ideas. We've gone from
- 0:30Speaker 1: all sides of the spectrum to figure out what works
- 0:33Speaker 1: for you and your budget and all the different ideas.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And I have so many fun guests to come on
- 0:38Speaker 1: and I'm really excited for today. Our first guest is
- 0:41Speaker 1: Cheryl Burke, which I am super excited about. She has
- 0:45Speaker 1: an amazing podcast with a J McClean, who was also
- 0:49Speaker 1: her partner on Dancing with the Stars, but it's called
- 0:52Speaker 1: Pretty Messed Up where they talk about all things addiction
- 0:55Speaker 1: mental health, which I think is so helpful for so
- 0:58Speaker 1: many people. So I can't wait to talk to her.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I have to first fan girl with you for a
- 1:04Speaker 1: second because my kids are obsessed with Dancing with the
- 1:09Speaker 1: Stars like a really level, which now means I'm obsessed
- 1:13Speaker 1: because it's an amazing family show to why I love it.
- 1:16Speaker 1: But they stand in front of the screen and like
- 1:18Speaker 1: try to do the moves and you guys, and I'm like, you,
- 1:22Speaker 1: you got your mother's rhythm, Like it's not working out,
- 1:25Speaker 1: all right. I love that. And normally it's like, oh,
- 1:27Speaker 1: my my mom or my grandma loves dance at the stars.
- 1:31Speaker 1: It's never like my kids. So it's really nice to
- 1:33Speaker 1: hear that that, like, kids are enjoying our show. Oh,
- 1:36Speaker 1: they love it so much that like, and this year
- 1:38Speaker 1: was beyond because there was so many fun costumes and
- 1:42Speaker 1: the hair in the makeup so totally something they look
- 1:45Speaker 1: forward to every week. And now that it's over, we're like, now,
- 1:48Speaker 1: what what do we get American idol? I guess I
- 1:52Speaker 1: know we're gonna puch it over right. Well, I love
- 1:55Speaker 1: your show. I'm a huge fan. I love Housewives really,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I like I seriously, I love you. I love what
- 2:01Speaker 1: you represent. I think you're awesome, so thank you. Lots
- 2:04Speaker 1: of drama too, But the the medea of it is
- 2:08Speaker 1: is then I get to do something like this and
- 2:09Speaker 1: talk to you and you know, grow and which is
- 2:13Speaker 1: why I love your podcast so much, which I thank
- 2:15Speaker 1: you contro But you guys have to tune in to
- 2:18Speaker 1: pretty messed up it is. I mean pretty messed up.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It's pretty messed up. I mean, my first question is
- 2:25Speaker 1: for you is how do you find strength right now?
- 2:29Speaker 1: Like I think there's so many of us that are
- 2:32Speaker 1: feeling alone or feeling like it's also happening to me,
- 2:35Speaker 1: So like what is you're driving force? You know, it's
- 2:41Speaker 1: I've always been really into self help and self improvement,
- 2:44Speaker 1: um as far as like you know, I you know,
- 2:47Speaker 1: I'm an addict, and I feel like, you know, I mean,
- 2:50Speaker 1: some people may disagree that I'm an addict, but I
- 2:52Speaker 1: feel like I'm an addict. And when I like to
- 2:54Speaker 1: think of one thing to do, that's what I'm gonna do.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And lately it's been very much like productivity, you know,
- 3:01Speaker 1: like how can I keep this time and make it,
- 3:04Speaker 1: you know, the most out of it really and try
- 3:06Speaker 1: and look at the glass half full instead of half empty.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And it's not freaking easy, guys. Like it's really not
- 3:11Speaker 1: like there's days I wake up and I'm like, oh God,
- 3:14Speaker 1: like here we go again. I'm gonna get dressed up
- 3:16Speaker 1: from the waist up, and but you know what, like
- 3:21Speaker 1: make something out of it, you know, And I've always
- 3:23Speaker 1: had that drive, I guess, um that like over obsessive
- 3:27Speaker 1: drive where it's like, okay, well, you know, I've always
- 3:30Speaker 1: wanted to make masks. Weirdly before this pandemic, when I
- 3:33Speaker 1: was in Japan doing my life stage show and I
- 3:37Speaker 1: saw like these Japanese women coming out with like beautiful
- 3:40Speaker 1: outfits and then dental masks, and I was like, what
- 3:43Speaker 1: the hell is going on? Like we gotta like I
- 3:45Speaker 1: went to my agent and I was like, we gotta
- 3:47Speaker 1: like come up with something cute. She's like, you're nuts,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and I'm like, okay, fine, And then obviously you know
- 3:52Speaker 1: this happened, and you know, it's just about like being
- 3:55Speaker 1: able to sit in your own excuse my language, but
- 3:58Speaker 1: like being able to then be okay with you and
- 4:02Speaker 1: then just feeling the feelings and meditation has been a
- 4:05Speaker 1: big part of my life. If you asked me two
- 4:07Speaker 1: years ago to sit in stillness and with no technology
- 4:11Speaker 1: around me, I would have slapped you. Um, that would
- 4:14Speaker 1: have never happened. But you know, it's it's okay to feel.
- 4:18Speaker 1: And I think we've all been just numbing. A lot
- 4:20Speaker 1: of us have, at least. Yeah, I fully agree, And
- 4:23Speaker 1: I think that now you've taken a time to create
- 4:26Speaker 1: something that you thought about years ago which my son
- 4:29Speaker 1: stole my mask that I got from the Tide war
- 4:33Speaker 1: Box and he's like, no, I'm sorry, Mom. I love
- 4:35Speaker 1: it because in the back it's got like just of
- 4:38Speaker 1: all yeah, just it And I'm like that, But did
- 4:41Speaker 1: you see the name it said, mom, like Teddy. Yes,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you know they are there, men and women and boys
- 4:49Speaker 1: and girls whatever whatever you know tickles your fancy really,
- 4:53Speaker 1: but like there, you know, for me, it's about the
- 4:56Speaker 1: construction of these masks. Like I was so tired of
- 4:58Speaker 1: swallowing my masks, to be honest, I was like tired
- 5:01Speaker 1: of like crying and swallowing my masks. And I couldn't
- 5:03Speaker 1: even like all I was thinking about, I was like,
- 5:05Speaker 1: I'm wearing something on my face, you know. I needed
- 5:07Speaker 1: to wear something that like I could breathe in and
- 5:09Speaker 1: then add a little glitter, you know. No, they're so cute,
- 5:12Speaker 1: they're comfortable, and they're really good stocking stuffer, oh my god,
- 5:16Speaker 1: and affordable. Huge. So how do people what's the quickest
- 5:21Speaker 1: way somebody could get one of those masks? So? Um,
- 5:24Speaker 1: Today is the last day of my twelve days of
- 5:27Speaker 1: giveaway of mask Miss Christmas Um Special. So if you
- 5:31Speaker 1: guys really quit want to go onto my Instagram account,
- 5:34Speaker 1: it's as Cheryl Burke. You can also find the link
- 5:36Speaker 1: there too in my bio to get masks. But the
- 5:39Speaker 1: website is Bailey Blue Clothing dot com. So cool and
- 5:42Speaker 1: they're so cute. I wish you guys could see them
- 5:44Speaker 1: all right now. There's so many different colors they're they're
- 5:47Speaker 1: all names that they're named after one of the dances
- 5:49Speaker 1: you've seen us do on Dancing on the Star. So
- 5:50Speaker 1: this is the quick step. I love that. This is
- 5:55Speaker 1: the pasta doble. I'm sure your son will like this one.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I think that's actually the one we have. Yeah,
- 6:01Speaker 1: this one or and you might have. The tango is
- 6:03Speaker 1: the silk black one. So this is the holiday line
- 6:06Speaker 1: that just came out, and then we got the Mambo.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Of course, it's like, tell me which one you want, Teddy,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and I'll help you up. The mama looks pretty sexy
- 6:14Speaker 1: right there. You can name a few if you'd like.
- 6:17Speaker 1: This is the Argentine tango. Do you dance by the way,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I want to dance, like, you know, it's like my dream.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Like my husband and I are like we need to
- 6:26Speaker 1: learn to dance, like we've done, I'll tell you here.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Like we started reading books together and like they became
- 6:32Speaker 1: our non negotiables, Like we're gonna read relationship books and
- 6:35Speaker 1: we're gonna have those conversations that are hard because we
- 6:39Speaker 1: have the time and we need to write each other
- 6:42Speaker 1: because you know, you're married. Some days you just go
- 6:44Speaker 1: through the motions your day, good bye, whatever? Do we
- 6:49Speaker 1: We know what we both did like and look like
- 6:52Speaker 1: we needed to push past that. But dancing is the
- 6:55Speaker 1: next thing because he can dance, like he can move,
- 6:59Speaker 1: but like not when it's choreographed like it's on right, um,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and I'm not sure I could. I need a lot
- 7:06Speaker 1: of guidance. You're so you're so fit though, like you'll
- 7:09Speaker 1: be able to do it, like you're you're an athlete, right,
- 7:12Speaker 1: Like yeah, I know, but that's why I'm like, that
- 7:15Speaker 1: would be out of my comfort zone because for me,
- 7:18Speaker 1: where that's good, that's good. The most trouble for myself
- 7:21Speaker 1: is when I'm complacent, right, I feel you a girl
- 7:25Speaker 1: like for me, like I actually my husband needs to
- 7:27Speaker 1: stay far away from me when I say the word
- 7:29Speaker 1: dance because I turned into like a dance mom. So
- 7:32Speaker 1: like literally for our wedding, I was like I had
- 7:34Speaker 1: chaperones because I was like, yo, we're either he's not
- 7:36Speaker 1: going to make it to the aisle because I'm gonna
- 7:38Speaker 1: you're I'm gonna bring out the dance mom and me,
- 7:40Speaker 1: and I'm like, this is not cute, but dancing normally
- 7:42Speaker 1: for normal you know, Harry troubles, it's normally a great thing.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Why I teach you guys via zoom? I would love that. Yeah,
- 7:52Speaker 1: you guys gonna do for the holidays. You're looking at it? Yeah, right,
- 7:57Speaker 1: Like it's so scary actually right now. And my husband's
- 8:01Speaker 1: actually two more days left on his movie that he's
- 8:03Speaker 1: shooting right now, and it's like, my honey, and then
- 8:06Speaker 1: he comes home like I'm not feeling well. I'm like, okay,
- 8:10Speaker 1: you're gonna come in my You're gonna come in the
- 8:12Speaker 1: room and say, can you just shout it out for
- 8:14Speaker 1: the kitchen please? Uh no, I'm kidding. But like I
- 8:16Speaker 1: think he just run down hopefully, But like you just
- 8:19Speaker 1: never know, you know, it's like to go out in anywhere,
- 8:22Speaker 1: Like my friend wants to go Christmas shopping. I'm like,
- 8:24Speaker 1: you're on your own, honey, fun because I can't do this.
- 8:27Speaker 1: You know that. I mean That's why I was talking
- 8:28Speaker 1: about it. I even to go to Target. There's like, oh,
- 8:31Speaker 1: way round the corner, twenty deep. I'm like, I was
- 8:36Speaker 1: sending masks to people for Christmas and I was like
- 8:38Speaker 1: freaking out, Like you don't understand. I haven't been to
- 8:40Speaker 1: a restaurant since January. I've literally like I have not,
- 8:45Speaker 1: Like it's been me and my new friendschie who have
- 8:47Speaker 1: petting who You've seen my arm like weirdly petty? Oh really,
- 8:51Speaker 1: this is Isabella. He's a little rascal. Oh that you
- 8:55Speaker 1: have such a nice name for yours. Mine is pork chop.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I love it. Minds developed with a y, which is
- 9:01Speaker 1: really weird. But whatever. Um But yeah, So I'm like,
- 9:05Speaker 1: you know, I don't even know what it feels like
- 9:07Speaker 1: to like to even go out and like, wait a second,
- 9:10Speaker 1: what do you do? Like what's the new normal? I
- 9:13Speaker 1: mean the thing that the only thing I've been doing
- 9:14Speaker 1: is like we've been going on family walks and kind
- 9:18Speaker 1: of looking around the neighborhood, looking at the lights and
- 9:20Speaker 1: trying to find something best. And I'm like literally over
- 9:24Speaker 1: decorated by treat. I mean, well it looks good. I
- 9:27Speaker 1: mean we tried to do the gingerbread houses. But I
- 9:30Speaker 1: really much that one up because I didn't get the
- 9:32Speaker 1: one that was constructed already, and I was like, I
- 9:36Speaker 1: didn't realize you had to like have a license in
- 9:39Speaker 1: architecture to build. But it's like falling over their collapsing.
- 9:43Speaker 1: My kids are like, mom, oh no, well you know
- 9:48Speaker 1: you can't right normally just buy it and even markets
- 9:52Speaker 1: or something, ye like, well, I see how it goes. Um,
- 9:57Speaker 1: so what does that mean for you in regards to
- 9:59Speaker 1: holiday shopping? You the masks and I Amazon, it's like
- 10:02Speaker 1: Christmas every day here in this house and the boxes
- 10:05Speaker 1: like no, actually my neighbors are just like Cheryl and
- 10:07Speaker 1: not like it looks like, um, it looks horrible outside
- 10:11Speaker 1: right now because I've just got boxes piling up, and
- 10:14Speaker 1: like the trash comes every Wednesday and I'm like, my
- 10:17Speaker 1: trash bands are broken, like it's a freaking hot mess.
- 10:20Speaker 1: And the hobbies shooting a movie. So it's just me,
- 10:23Speaker 1: myself and my dog, I know, but then you have
- 10:25Speaker 1: to see it. Like for me, I'm like, do I
- 10:27Speaker 1: really want to break down? These boxes are in the
- 10:31Speaker 1: hard time because I haven't done it, So I'm gonna
- 10:33Speaker 1: store them over here until it became a situation like
- 10:37Speaker 1: a talking to. But I think that's what everyone's doing.
- 10:40Speaker 1: And plus they're when they get bored, they're like, oh,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I could buy this on Amazon or you know it's yeah,
- 10:46Speaker 1: or like they do YouTube channels and podcasts like what
- 10:49Speaker 1: I've been doing. I'm like, literally, this is why I
- 10:51Speaker 1: was late calling you because I was like reading my
- 10:53Speaker 1: monologue that I have to now put in the teleprompter
- 10:56Speaker 1: so I can put up my freaking video on New
- 10:59Speaker 1: Year's Day. I'm like, who watched it? Watch YouTube on
- 11:02Speaker 1: New Year's Day? Who knows? Who knows? I had a
- 11:06Speaker 1: hard enough time doing our little dance we did for
- 11:09Speaker 1: because we're all you know, the I heart things. You
- 11:11Speaker 1: did it great. I watched you and a J I
- 11:13Speaker 1: was like, you know what, it's not fair, you know what.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I refused to sing though I have I'm toned to
- 11:20Speaker 1: it's ridiculous. Um okay, random question, But my listeners have
- 11:26Speaker 1: all asked the same thing, and they want me to
- 11:28Speaker 1: ask all my guests today. When you go to the
- 11:30Speaker 1: hotel when it was something that we did, did you
- 11:34Speaker 1: ever steal stuff from it? And what? What? What are
- 11:36Speaker 1: the hell? Yeah? I did you know, like, uh, which
- 11:40Speaker 1: which the hotel. It's um the one where we got married.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Uh fairm Fairmont, Grand del Marrow whatever. Sorry, guys, but
- 11:48Speaker 1: I steal all your lay Labo everything, Like they have
- 11:50Speaker 1: Laylabo lotion, shampoo, bath salts, freaking scrubber. Like I'm like, yea,
- 11:57Speaker 1: I look like I'm Filipino. So that's what we do. Well,
- 12:00Speaker 1: I'm the same. But I didn't realize that. I later
- 12:03Speaker 1: got charged. But I was taking the robes because I
- 12:07Speaker 1: don't you can't do that. But my husbands like, you
- 12:11Speaker 1: can't do that beautiful four seasons robe or my bowe.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah no, no, no, that's obvious. Girl. I gotta take
- 12:18Speaker 1: some tricks of the trade. He's like, Teddy, I just
- 12:21Speaker 1: saw in our hotel bill. But a two hundred fifty
- 12:23Speaker 1: dollars for the robe. I'm like, was it worth it? Though?
- 12:26Speaker 1: Because I feel like there are ropes are like towels.
- 12:29Speaker 1: There's one robe that was really worth it that I've
- 12:31Speaker 1: been carrying around for like ten years. But there's like,
- 12:34Speaker 1: oh good, it's all the things you need to steal.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I'll steal another one for you. Get it, well, I'll
- 12:39Speaker 1: ben mo you have cool cool cool? Yeah, Oh my gosh,
- 12:44Speaker 1: I know that. Um, I only have twenty minutes with you,
- 12:46Speaker 1: so thank you. This is fun. I know it was
- 12:49Speaker 1: so fun. Um And if you ever need anything, I'm
- 12:52Speaker 1: pretty messed up. I'm pretty messed up too, So yes,
- 12:54Speaker 1: I would love You're a life coach, right Like I'll
- 12:58Speaker 1: exchange dance lessons for life coaching me and my husband.
- 13:01Speaker 1: How about that. I think the beauty of it is
- 13:03Speaker 1: when we are you know, we're all struggling. The biggest
- 13:06Speaker 1: thing is is about being vulnerable your struggle, and it's
- 13:11Speaker 1: really scary. But once you do that, then you realize
- 13:14Speaker 1: we're not alone. Right Like, stop trying to be a hardass. Yeah,
- 13:18Speaker 1: stop trying to be perfect. Stop trying to be a
- 13:20Speaker 1: hard ass, because there's so many of us that just
- 13:23Speaker 1: need to hear. Wow. Yeah, human she you know this
- 13:29Speaker 1: happened to her, this happened him, or whatever it may be.
- 13:31Speaker 1: So I wish such a happy holiday season and YouTube,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna send you some mask girl. Thank you. I'm
- 13:39Speaker 1: gonna I'm not gonna let cruisey at this. I'm send
- 13:42Speaker 1: you enough for everyone. All right, I'll talk to you
- 13:45Speaker 1: happy holidays. Thanks for having me By Danielle. How great
- 13:49Speaker 1: was she? But I had to continue checking my stomach.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I thought it was growling. I was like, what is happening?
- 13:55Speaker 1: I just ate But then she pulled up the dog
- 13:58Speaker 1: and I'm like, it's the dogs. It was so good,
- 14:02Speaker 1: her new little friend. She was just like, like snoring.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It's amazing, so cute. Now I want to have mine
- 14:11Speaker 1: on my lap. But our next guest is Matt Saratha,
- 14:15Speaker 1: who I actually know already because he is I think
- 14:21Speaker 1: it's Kyle Richard's godson, and so we have met multiple times. Um.
- 14:26Speaker 1: He's so fun. One of the youngest, I think youngest
- 14:31Speaker 1: designers to ever show at New York Fashion Week. So
- 14:34Speaker 1: I can't wait to dig into it with him. And
- 14:36Speaker 1: we'll bring him on in a set. Hello, look at you.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I knew you were going to come with all the things.
- 14:53Speaker 1: I knew it. Any excuse to dress up. I take
- 14:55Speaker 1: it full for us these days. Oh my god. Well,
- 14:58Speaker 1: I'm so happy to have you here. I like, such
- 15:00Speaker 1: a nice surprise. When I saw you on the rundown cheat,
- 15:03Speaker 1: I'm like, I know, I am I say it wrong.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Aren't you Kyle's godson? Or yes, okay, that's what I
- 15:12Speaker 1: was like. I was like, I know, there's some sort
- 15:15Speaker 1: of because we've I've hung out with you a million times,
- 15:18Speaker 1: so some sort of family ties and there are some families.
- 15:23Speaker 1: And every time I see you, I am always mesmerized
- 15:26Speaker 1: by your makeup and envious that mine is a hot mess.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Express uh and and your nails. It's all the things.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Come up, beauty salon anytime you want, I'll hook you up.
- 15:38Speaker 1: How about that? Gosh, I love it. But I think
- 15:41Speaker 1: the coolest thing about you. I mean, there's a million
- 15:43Speaker 1: cool things, but one of the most incredible things about
- 15:46Speaker 1: you for our listeners is you were the youngest person
- 15:50Speaker 1: to ever show up fashion Week, right, yes, still to
- 15:53Speaker 1: this day. Can you talk us through like how you
- 15:57Speaker 1: got the confidence to do that, some of the decisions
- 16:00Speaker 1: that you made in order to take action and make
- 16:04Speaker 1: it happen first. Sure, I mean, I I'm happy to
- 16:08Speaker 1: talk about myself all day long. But I mean I've
- 16:13Speaker 1: just like I've been doing fashion since I was seven
- 16:15Speaker 1: years old. Um I got into the fashion world by
- 16:19Speaker 1: watching Project Runway and then I found myself on the
- 16:22Speaker 1: first season of Project Runway jr. Um And that's when
- 16:25Speaker 1: everything just kind of took off, and um I showed
- 16:29Speaker 1: it Cleveland Fashion Week believe it or not. Um, way
- 16:32Speaker 1: back in the day, and then someone from New York
- 16:34Speaker 1: Fashion Week was sitting in the audience, and I got
- 16:36Speaker 1: an email the next day and they're like, hey, do
- 16:38Speaker 1: you want to come and like show? And I'm like, uh, yeah,
- 16:42Speaker 1: let's do it. And then like the rest is history.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Pretty much just been hustling. What would you say the
- 16:49Speaker 1: biggest challenge has been for you? Probably my age. Um,
- 16:53Speaker 1: A lot of people don't because I got started when
- 16:56Speaker 1: I was like sixteen, is when stuff really started blowing up,
- 16:59Speaker 1: and people just were not taking me serious. They thought
- 17:01Speaker 1: that it was just like there's some little gay boy,
- 17:04Speaker 1: you know, living out a little dream and then um,
- 17:06Speaker 1: it was just kind of a phase and it would
- 17:08Speaker 1: blow over. So like having to sit with all these
- 17:10Speaker 1: like old men who are like, you know, high ups
- 17:13Speaker 1: in the industry, nobody ever really wanted to take me seriously. Um,
- 17:17Speaker 1: So my whole life that I've just been trying to
- 17:19Speaker 1: prove them wrong. And you know what, I think that
- 17:22Speaker 1: sometimes you can say like your biggest haters. People can
- 17:25Speaker 1: either stew in that and it just it breaks them down,
- 17:28Speaker 1: or use that drive to go you know what, No,
- 17:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep showing up for me. I'm gonna keep
- 17:32Speaker 1: showing up for what I love to do, and I'm
- 17:34Speaker 1: going to create something special, which your foe for is stunning.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Not we have some on the way to you. I
- 17:42Speaker 1: wanted them to get there in time, but you know,
- 17:44Speaker 1: it's shipping and everything is crazy. It's a disaster. But
- 17:48Speaker 1: remember when I was on Housewives, I wore one. It
- 17:52Speaker 1: was in this in this store, and I like tried
- 17:54Speaker 1: so many on They're so gorgeous. Tell us a little
- 17:57Speaker 1: bit about that and why they're that's a great gift
- 17:59Speaker 1: for the holidays. Yes, I love that. I remember that
- 18:02Speaker 1: iconic picture you were in the runway fresh off New
- 18:05Speaker 1: York Fashion Week runway Green Emerald Fur. I love it.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Uh so, um what it do you think is the
- 18:13Speaker 1: biggest fashion trend? From that? You're excited to go away?
- 18:19Speaker 1: Oh God, if you say matching sets, i'mount I would
- 18:24Speaker 1: not if you saw my closet. You would call me
- 18:26Speaker 1: a liar if I said that, because all about the
- 18:28Speaker 1: matching sets these days. Um, let's see. That's hard because
- 18:33Speaker 1: I don't like to yuck anyone's yum. But I would
- 18:38Speaker 1: have to say, okay, the ugly dad sneakers. I can't
- 18:44Speaker 1: with those ones. I've never gotten into them. And just
- 18:48Speaker 1: because of yeah, so ugly, like just because they're blindsiaga,
- 18:53Speaker 1: that does not make them cute. I'm sorry, Well you
- 18:56Speaker 1: know what I am really and you're not gonna think
- 18:59Speaker 1: this is Uggs have made a comeback in my life,
- 19:03Speaker 1: and these ones I there. They may be meant for indoors,
- 19:08Speaker 1: but they're all lifestyle for me. And I think a
- 19:10Speaker 1: lot of those but like they're not even cute. But
- 19:14Speaker 1: like now, ug has made a huge comeback again because
- 19:17Speaker 1: everybody wants to be cozy all of the time for real.
- 19:20Speaker 1: And you know, off the record, I mean, Peter, I
- 19:22Speaker 1: don't think approves of ugs, but I do own up
- 19:25Speaker 1: your ugs in my close and I'm not gonna lie
- 19:27Speaker 1: to you. I even now that Pete thing code. They're
- 19:34Speaker 1: they're fuggs. They're not uggs guys from Sandi Alley. I
- 19:37Speaker 1: love it. Um, What are the holiday? What are you
- 19:43Speaker 1: gonna do for the holidays this year? Oh my god,
- 19:45Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be the most boring holidays ever.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Like this is always usually like my favorite time of
- 19:49Speaker 1: the year because my birthdays in October and then it's
- 19:52Speaker 1: like Thanksgiving and there's like Christmas and everything, and I'm
- 19:55Speaker 1: always like having so much fun saying all my friends
- 19:57Speaker 1: and stuff. But this year, I literally think I'm just
- 19:59Speaker 1: gonna be with my immediate family and like that's it.
- 20:02Speaker 1: It's gonna be like the most lame Christmas ever. Do
- 20:05Speaker 1: you get them gifts? And like what what kind of
- 20:07Speaker 1: gifts do you get your family? And do you think
- 20:10Speaker 1: subscription gifts are a good gift? So we do gifts.
- 20:14Speaker 1: I have two younger brothers, and then it's my dad
- 20:17Speaker 1: and my mom. I have the most fun obviously shopping
- 20:20Speaker 1: for my mom because I like to get her, you know,
- 20:23Speaker 1: like we don't have the same size shoe, but you know,
- 20:25Speaker 1: handbags and stuff. I can kind of, you know, justify
- 20:28Speaker 1: getting her one if I can borrow it, you know.
- 20:31Speaker 1: So it's really about you, I see hoo yeah um.
- 20:36Speaker 1: But then you know, like for my brothers and stuff. Okay,
- 20:38Speaker 1: this is so this is gonna sound so bad, But
- 20:41Speaker 1: I'm getting them skincare routines because they desperately need it.
- 20:45Speaker 1: So I like I'm revamping their hoole from top to bottom,
- 20:48Speaker 1: flintzer to moisturize, or like I'm giving them everything especially
- 20:51Speaker 1: my little brothers. They need to take a little better
- 20:54Speaker 1: care of those care do you recommend? Don't hold out?
- 20:57Speaker 1: I need to, Okay, So for my dad, I'm getting
- 21:00Speaker 1: him on a retinal um. You know retinal right, So
- 21:03Speaker 1: I'm getting him on a retinal I think he desperately
- 21:05Speaker 1: needs it. Um. And then from my little brothers, they
- 21:08Speaker 1: need like they have acne, but it's the kind of
- 21:11Speaker 1: acne that like they just need to wash their face,
- 21:13Speaker 1: like they just don't just don't be watching their face. Um.
- 21:16Speaker 1: So I'm getting them some stuff. It's from this bran
- 21:19Speaker 1: called nuturium, and um it's like they're nice cinema, just
- 21:22Speaker 1: really good. I used to want to be a dermatologist,
- 21:24Speaker 1: so I know a lot about this stuff. Um. But
- 21:27Speaker 1: I'm getting them some nice cymbemide stuff, some like salasa
- 21:30Speaker 1: like acid is good for their acne um and just
- 21:35Speaker 1: for them, I'm keeping it basic because I know if
- 21:37Speaker 1: I go too crazy like my skin ca routine, They're
- 21:39Speaker 1: not going to use any of it. No, it has
- 21:41Speaker 1: to be simple. It has to be It has to
- 21:44Speaker 1: be simple. It has to look cool exactly and then
- 21:49Speaker 1: and then they'll probably do it, and then they has
- 21:51Speaker 1: to quick results What are you most looking forward to.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I'm excited to close the chapter on twenty funny first
- 22:00Speaker 1: and foremost. UM, And I just hope that next year
- 22:03Speaker 1: is a little more you know, fun Hopefully this COVID
- 22:06Speaker 1: starts clearing up a little bit, but no promises. UM.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And I have like some exciting new fashion stuff that
- 22:12Speaker 1: I'm working on. UM. And like I just feel like
- 22:15Speaker 1: the whole fashion industry is changing now without like these
- 22:17Speaker 1: fashion shows and stuff. Because usually right now I would
- 22:20Speaker 1: be gearing up to do New York Fashion in con February. UM,
- 22:24Speaker 1: so now everything's like so different. So I'm just working
- 22:26Speaker 1: on a new collection right now. UM, and we'll just
- 22:29Speaker 1: kind of we'll see where it goes. And while you
- 22:32Speaker 1: are home, what are you doing to like get inspired
- 22:36Speaker 1: and to keep yourself you know, because especially at your
- 22:40Speaker 1: age and I'm not ages in, I'm not doing ages
- 22:43Speaker 1: into you, but there's so many kids that are just
- 22:46Speaker 1: spending all of their time on social media. They're getting
- 22:49Speaker 1: like zoom depression, you know, like all of these types
- 22:52Speaker 1: of things because there's no outlet. So being creative and
- 22:55Speaker 1: having that creative outlet is huge, But like how do
- 22:58Speaker 1: you find it when you know you're kind of stationary,
- 23:02Speaker 1: kind of blessed in some ways because I have been
- 23:04Speaker 1: so busy, even more busy during quarantine than before. I
- 23:08Speaker 1: feel like, um, in the very beginning of lockdown, I
- 23:11Speaker 1: started doing like designer face masks. Um. I started just
- 23:14Speaker 1: making them for myself, and then you know, it kind
- 23:17Speaker 1: of blew up, and then like friends were asking them,
- 23:19Speaker 1: friends of friends, and then I'm like, you know what,
- 23:21Speaker 1: let me just put them online, let me just sell
- 23:23Speaker 1: them and see how it goes. And it has been
- 23:25Speaker 1: so crazy. If you saw, like downstairs in my house,
- 23:27Speaker 1: It's literally like a sweatshop down there. I'm working around
- 23:32Speaker 1: the clock trying to get all of these made in
- 23:34Speaker 1: ful build and whatnotum So, in some ways, I feel
- 23:37Speaker 1: like kind of good about being able to still do
- 23:41Speaker 1: all my like sewing and fashion like creative stuff and
- 23:44Speaker 1: it's kind of kept me I feel like sane during
- 23:46Speaker 1: the quarantine. What other types of new designs are you
- 23:49Speaker 1: going to do in your new collection? Like give us
- 23:52Speaker 1: the inside, but the tea got um so we're doing
- 23:58Speaker 1: right now, Like you know, I love the over the
- 24:00Speaker 1: top glamour and like the super extra stuff, but nowadays,
- 24:04Speaker 1: you know, people are staying home. They don't have a
- 24:06Speaker 1: lot of places to wear you know, like a traditional
- 24:08Speaker 1: like fur coat and like all this countur and stuff
- 24:11Speaker 1: that I usually like to do. UM, So we're going
- 24:14Speaker 1: we're taking a little bit more of you know, the
- 24:16Speaker 1: cozy but still fly kind of route. So a lot
- 24:19Speaker 1: of two piece sets, which I'm sure you'll love. Uh yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 1: just like work softer cozy or fabrics, um, and just
- 24:27Speaker 1: stuff that you can kind of wear around the house
- 24:29Speaker 1: or if you're going somewhere out you're still gonna look good, fly, presentable,
- 24:34Speaker 1: um and fashionable, but not you know, over the top
- 24:36Speaker 1: super extra. Okay, I like that. And then what do
- 24:39Speaker 1: you think like the color of is going to be
- 24:43Speaker 1: that's hard. I think patterns are really in for um.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I think especially now that everyone's doing these, like you said,
- 24:51Speaker 1: these two piece matching steffs. I think it's fun to
- 24:53Speaker 1: throw in like a little pop of you know, pattern
- 24:56Speaker 1: or like some super vibrant colors like I love an
- 24:58Speaker 1: emerald green, um, sapphire blue, um. The pea collab that
- 25:03Speaker 1: we just did for these uh like props hooded Folk
- 25:06Speaker 1: for bomber jackets, we did all like jewel tones, so
- 25:09Speaker 1: we have like a ruby uh, sapphire, this is like
- 25:12Speaker 1: the emerald and like a black onyx. I think that's
- 25:15Speaker 1: really hot and like really sexy for um, But the
- 25:20Speaker 1: main thing, I feel like it's just cozy. Yeah. I mean,
- 25:23Speaker 1: but I think wearing that bright color, that bold color,
- 25:27Speaker 1: makes me feel more alive. I know it sounds crazy,
- 25:30Speaker 1: but I'm like, I wore this like bright purple kind
- 25:33Speaker 1: of set yesterday and my husband's like, wow, you look hot. Meanwhile,
- 25:37Speaker 1: I'm like in sweats. Yes, it's because like one if
- 25:41Speaker 1: it's if it goes together and I kind of make
- 25:43Speaker 1: an effort to do my hair, then all of a sudden,
- 25:45Speaker 1: I feel more ready for the day. Like I'm like,
- 25:48Speaker 1: even though I'm at my home, I feel good to
- 25:50Speaker 1: the one percent. And that's why I love bashing, because
- 25:54Speaker 1: if I look good, I feel good and I can
- 25:56Speaker 1: like go out there and like conquer the day. But
- 25:59Speaker 1: you know, if I'm not get fresh, then I'm I
- 26:01Speaker 1: don't feel my best, you know what. I think we
- 26:04Speaker 1: have to end on that note, because it's it's pretty great.
- 26:07Speaker 1: If I'm not fresh, I'm not looking at my best.
- 26:09Speaker 1: And I feel the same way when it comes to fitness.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Everything it's taken care of yourself and however makes you
- 26:15Speaker 1: feel good in your own skin. We're all different, but
- 26:17Speaker 1: I think that I think that's huge. Thank you so
- 26:19Speaker 1: much for joining us today. Thank you so good to
- 26:22Speaker 1: see you, but to see you tube can't wait in
- 26:25Speaker 1: person at some point, who knows how long? Yes, and
- 26:29Speaker 1: we'll have on our matching Peta Matsurropol cloud bombers, done
- 26:33Speaker 1: and done. Yes that bye honey bye. Our next guest
- 26:47Speaker 1: is Jeanette Pavini, who, let's be honest, we all need
- 26:51Speaker 1: to figure out ways to save, especially after the holidays.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I know that I always go over my budget, and
- 26:58Speaker 1: I think like maybe if I don't look, I won't
- 27:00Speaker 1: realize that I did. But I know I did. Um.
- 27:03Speaker 1: You can also order her book, order The Joy of Saving,
- 27:06Speaker 1: and it's on Amazon. Um. So, the first thing I
- 27:10Speaker 1: I kind of have to say is like as of
- 27:12Speaker 1: like shamefully telling you, is I always have a plan
- 27:16Speaker 1: for my budget and I always end up going over
- 27:18Speaker 1: because I don't plan for certain things like yes, this
- 27:22Speaker 1: is how much I'm going to spend on my kids,
- 27:24Speaker 1: and then this is how much I'm going to even
- 27:26Speaker 1: spend on my tree or whatever it may be. But
- 27:28Speaker 1: then I don't think about like, oh, I'm gonna want
- 27:30Speaker 1: them to have Christmas pajamas or our holiday card or
- 27:34Speaker 1: what they need for you know, the outfits they're going
- 27:37Speaker 1: to wear to match. You know, all of these things
- 27:39Speaker 1: start to add up that we don't think about. So like,
- 27:42Speaker 1: what is the best practice to kind of budget during
- 27:46Speaker 1: the holidays? So the best practice is really know the
- 27:50Speaker 1: history will repeat itself, like you really use zeroed in
- 27:53Speaker 1: on exactly what people forget to look at, right, they
- 27:57Speaker 1: forget to look at you know. Okay, if we're I'm
- 28:00Speaker 1: gonna buy this cute outfit, I'm gonna have to get
- 28:03Speaker 1: special little shoes, and then when I need the bow
- 28:05Speaker 1: to go with it, and all these other things. And
- 28:08Speaker 1: so let history be the dictator for your future. And
- 28:11Speaker 1: what I mean by that is, Okay, if you're getting
- 28:13Speaker 1: the kids new outfits, really think back what did I
- 28:17Speaker 1: spend money on? What else did I miss? And then
- 28:20Speaker 1: you know whether it's really worth it and if it
- 28:22Speaker 1: fits into your budget. Same thing with the Christmas tree. Right,
- 28:25Speaker 1: Oh but I need the lights. Oh now I need
- 28:27Speaker 1: you know, new uh, you know the thing that goes
- 28:30Speaker 1: at the bottom. I needed to We have to think
- 28:32Speaker 1: of these things, because that those costs are what's gonna
- 28:36Speaker 1: kill us. Do you think you like write it all
- 28:39Speaker 1: down at the beginning or you like that. I think
- 28:43Speaker 1: that's my problem. I I give myself like a budget
- 28:46Speaker 1: in my head, but I don't actually write it down.
- 28:49Speaker 1: And that's the only thing in my life that I
- 28:51Speaker 1: don't write down. So I'm like, I wonder why I
- 28:54Speaker 1: don't want to hold myself accountable to this because in
- 28:56Speaker 1: my mind, I'm like, I just love giving gifts and
- 28:58Speaker 1: making this holiday special and I forget about all the
- 29:02Speaker 1: other stuff. Yeah, you have to write it down, you know.
- 29:04Speaker 1: It's interesting. In the book that I wrote, I start
- 29:07Speaker 1: with how my dad from nineteen forty two. Are you
- 29:10Speaker 1: ready for this? He wrote down every single paycheck from
- 29:14Speaker 1: nineteen forty two, how much he made, how much went
- 29:17Speaker 1: to you know, taxes, how much went to Social Security,
- 29:20Speaker 1: and how much he took home for sixty years. Teddy,
- 29:24Speaker 1: I have the journal. I took it when he passed away.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I'm like, I have to hang onto it. And that
- 29:27Speaker 1: was like the basis of my whole book. We don't
- 29:30Speaker 1: have a relationship with what we're spending, and you have
- 29:33Speaker 1: to have that. For me, it's a mind pend paper,
- 29:38Speaker 1: I write it out and once you do that, that
- 29:41Speaker 1: knowledge is super powerful because then you know you know
- 29:45Speaker 1: what you're working with. I mean, I think for a
- 29:46Speaker 1: lot of people in this year has been a tough
- 29:49Speaker 1: year financially for a lot of people. Um, you know,
- 29:52Speaker 1: we want to put our head in the sand, but
- 29:54Speaker 1: the reality is you can't. And once you acknowledge it
- 29:56Speaker 1: and you write it out and you see what your
- 29:58Speaker 1: budget is, suddenly you're powerful. Yeah, I know. The one
- 30:02Speaker 1: thing that I do do that I know has helped
- 30:04Speaker 1: is every week I write down like the amount of
- 30:07Speaker 1: money that I have in each one of my accounts,
- 30:09Speaker 1: like like my personal, my business, my LLC, and just
- 30:14Speaker 1: so I can see it and then I could it
- 30:16Speaker 1: helps me make decisions on jobs, like different things that
- 30:20Speaker 1: I'm going to say yes to, And then I can
- 30:22Speaker 1: also have those hard conversations with myself. Am I only
- 30:25Speaker 1: saying yes for the money? Or am I saying yes
- 30:28Speaker 1: because I really want to do this and I believe
- 30:30Speaker 1: in this and you know, whatever it is. But just
- 30:32Speaker 1: seeing the money either go up or go down can
- 30:36Speaker 1: be very motivating. It's and what you're doing, Teddy, is
- 30:41Speaker 1: you're having a relationship with your money. It's not something
- 30:45Speaker 1: that's far off that you're you're not connected with because
- 30:48Speaker 1: you're aware. Now. I think it's great. Once a week,
- 30:50Speaker 1: I do mind. Once a month you're ahead of me.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I have a bad feeling. I may spend more. That's okay,
- 30:58Speaker 1: we're gonna change all. But you know it's it just
- 31:02Speaker 1: makes you see it, lets you make educated decisions on
- 31:06Speaker 1: where you want to spend your money. I mean, there's
- 31:09Speaker 1: there's like this thing that's missing. There's people don't find
- 31:12Speaker 1: joy or fun in saving money anymore, and it really
- 31:15Speaker 1: we need to. And some people say, well I don't
- 31:18Speaker 1: even I'm trying to make ends need and I don't
- 31:19Speaker 1: have money to save. If you look at your budget,
- 31:22Speaker 1: I guarantee you there are things grocery bills, that's one example.
- 31:26Speaker 1: You know where you could be cutting probably up to
- 31:29Speaker 1: you meaning everybody. And when you save that money, make
- 31:33Speaker 1: it fun, put it in a savings account. If you
- 31:35Speaker 1: have to spend investing in yourself or in a class,
- 31:39Speaker 1: or in a bank account or in stocks. So what
- 31:42Speaker 1: do you have any I've noticed a lot. My husband
- 31:45Speaker 1: and I do our finances separately because that's just always
- 31:48Speaker 1: how we've done it. But a lot of couples that
- 31:51Speaker 1: I know a lot of my friends will you know,
- 31:53Speaker 1: get an arguments with their significant other over money, saving money,
- 31:57Speaker 1: either one of them is the saver and the other
- 31:59Speaker 1: one is the spender, you know, whatever it may be,
- 32:01Speaker 1: and they have different things on what's important to them
- 32:04Speaker 1: to spend on. What is your advice to couples that
- 32:07Speaker 1: are struggling with that, Well, I think that you know,
- 32:10Speaker 1: it's important to realize that that is, finances are the
- 32:13Speaker 1: number one cause for divorce. It's you know, people fighting
- 32:17Speaker 1: over money. It is a big deal. So I think
- 32:20Speaker 1: I have two suggestions on that, and number one is
- 32:23Speaker 1: to realize that you're going into this as a team
- 32:25Speaker 1: and that you know it's not it's you're in it together.
- 32:28Speaker 1: And what you have to do is you have to
- 32:30Speaker 1: find a common goal. Because if one person is working
- 32:33Speaker 1: towards one goal and another person is working towards another goal,
- 32:36Speaker 1: you're never going to meet. So you have to find
- 32:38Speaker 1: a common goal and you have to to me set boundaries,
- 32:41Speaker 1: I mean almost like an allowance. I have a friend
- 32:44Speaker 1: who was struggling that with her and her husband got
- 32:47Speaker 1: really really bad, and you know what they finally did
- 32:51Speaker 1: was they sat down, they gave each other an allowance,
- 32:53Speaker 1: and they figured out, Okay, you could spend this on
- 32:56Speaker 1: whatever you want and I could spend this, But the
- 32:58Speaker 1: rest of it, it's our money together that we make
- 33:01Speaker 1: a decision. And it seems to have worked. So it's
- 33:04Speaker 1: like you just you need to feel like you have
- 33:06Speaker 1: something of your own, but you've got to work together
- 33:09Speaker 1: on the bulk of it. Yeah, I mean, I think
- 33:11Speaker 1: that makes a lot of sense. And plus having those
- 33:14Speaker 1: conversations when you're in a good place though, versus when
- 33:17Speaker 1: you're actually fighting about finances, like all right, let's sit down,
- 33:21Speaker 1: let's make the budget. Let's come up with the allowance
- 33:23Speaker 1: we both have, and you spend that however you want.
- 33:26Speaker 1: And I because you know, nobody wants to hear like
- 33:29Speaker 1: oh did you go Not that it's happening now, but
- 33:32Speaker 1: did you go get your nails done today? Or like
- 33:34Speaker 1: did you you know, those types of things. But also
- 33:37Speaker 1: you know, we have different things that are important to
- 33:40Speaker 1: us that we want to spend on. But something I
- 33:42Speaker 1: have heard so much as people have been saying, because
- 33:45Speaker 1: I've been asking everyone that I know, like what's your
- 33:47Speaker 1: New Year's resolution? And so many are like I do
- 33:50Speaker 1: want to save money going into this year, because this
- 33:53Speaker 1: year has taught us with all these unknowns, with all
- 33:55Speaker 1: of these changes and jobs and everything, like how how
- 34:00Speaker 1: do I start saving money? Yeah? You know, it goes
- 34:03Speaker 1: back to exactly what you were talking about before that awareness,
- 34:08Speaker 1: and my recommendation is three things. Number One, if you
- 34:12Speaker 1: want to save money, and we all have the capacity
- 34:15Speaker 1: to do this, you write down all of your expenses.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I mean all of your expensive not just you know, okay,
- 34:21Speaker 1: my mortgage, my insurance, everything that you spend money on,
- 34:24Speaker 1: and you have two columns. It's so simple to do.
- 34:26Speaker 1: The things that are set in stone, like okay, your mortgage,
- 34:29Speaker 1: you don't really have a ton of control over that,
- 34:31Speaker 1: or your kids tuition or daycare, whatever it might be.
- 34:33Speaker 1: You know that set in stone. There's a lot of
- 34:36Speaker 1: things that are flexible. I will tell you your your
- 34:39Speaker 1: cell phone plan, it's flexible. Your grocery shopping, your personal
- 34:42Speaker 1: care items, all of those things are flexible. And you
- 34:46Speaker 1: can look at those and say, what am I going
- 34:48Speaker 1: to do? First of all, if I want to continue
- 34:50Speaker 1: using it, how am I going to do so? At uh,
- 34:53Speaker 1: you know, at the best price possible. I'll give you
- 34:55Speaker 1: a quick example, I've had the same cell phone plan
- 34:58Speaker 1: twenty years the other damn like it has to be less.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Now I shaved my cell phone plan by sixty dollars
- 35:04Speaker 1: a month. Now sixty dollars a month. That's nice. I'd
- 35:07Speaker 1: rather have it in my pocket. But look at that,
- 35:09Speaker 1: that's seven hundred you know, that's a lot seven bucks
- 35:12Speaker 1: a year, and that's after taxes. So someone would have
- 35:15Speaker 1: to make twelve hundred dollars to spend seven hundred dollars, right,
- 35:20Speaker 1: So it's it's looking at those things and just saying
- 35:24Speaker 1: what can I change? And then but then the key is, Teddy,
- 35:27Speaker 1: is to actually save that money. It doesn't mean that
- 35:30Speaker 1: you then spend it elsewhere. You save that money. And
- 35:34Speaker 1: that's what and that's what you have to do is
- 35:37Speaker 1: save it. That's the most important. And how do you,
- 35:41Speaker 1: you know, hold yourself accountable to then saving it because
- 35:46Speaker 1: sometimes where it gets a little tricky with me, but
- 35:48Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, you know, I just made this amount
- 35:52Speaker 1: for doing you know, this appearance or this situation or
- 35:55Speaker 1: whatever it may be. And I've been wanting this for
- 35:59Speaker 1: a while and that is only have of what this cost.
- 36:02Speaker 1: And so now I'm gonna do this and spend half
- 36:04Speaker 1: and then put this into say like I always have justifications,
- 36:09Speaker 1: but that's and that's very that's that's human nature. The
- 36:13Speaker 1: thing is, what we have to do is we have
- 36:15Speaker 1: to find the feeling that saving is almost a better
- 36:20Speaker 1: feeling than the new you know, bag or whatever it
- 36:23Speaker 1: is that someone's wanting to buy. Now. I'm not saying
- 36:25Speaker 1: you can't buy those things, but I like your idea.
- 36:28Speaker 1: You save half, and you put half in an account
- 36:30Speaker 1: for towards something that you're working towards, right, Like if
- 36:33Speaker 1: it's a trip, or if you want a car, whatever
- 36:35Speaker 1: it might be, save at least half. People have got
- 36:38Speaker 1: to start saving. When I was researching for this book,
- 36:42Speaker 1: I might math draw I could not believe how how
- 36:45Speaker 1: much of the population across the country doesn't have enough
- 36:48Speaker 1: of the savings to even last six weeks if they,
- 36:52Speaker 1: you know, if they suddenly lost their job, and which
- 36:55Speaker 1: was a huge issue this year, right, I mean, you know, people,
- 36:58Speaker 1: whether people were affluent or Middle America, whatever it was,
- 37:01Speaker 1: people were closing businesses, losing jobs. We have to have
- 37:05Speaker 1: that savings. The peace of mind that having a savings
- 37:08Speaker 1: account can give you is actually it's priceless. Because it
- 37:12Speaker 1: allows you to feel more empowered and more in control.
- 37:16Speaker 1: So I think it's fine to have those goals, but
- 37:19Speaker 1: I think you have to always say at least fifty
- 37:22Speaker 1: of what it is that you're going to be putting
- 37:24Speaker 1: towards that purchase that you want, And what do you
- 37:27Speaker 1: recommend for people with with kids and they want to
- 37:30Speaker 1: set a savings account or a college account, or you
- 37:33Speaker 1: know whatever it may be like for for somebody that
- 37:36Speaker 1: with you know, a standard regular job, like how much
- 37:39Speaker 1: should they be putting away a month for their kids
- 37:42Speaker 1: or their savings or however wherever they want to be. Yeah,
- 37:45Speaker 1: that this is the probably over all my years of
- 37:48Speaker 1: reporting is a consumer reporter, that was probably like the
- 37:50Speaker 1: number one question I get asked, like how do I
- 37:53Speaker 1: plan for my kids college education? When I'm like dealing
- 37:56Speaker 1: with paying my mortgage and everything else that's coming along.
- 37:59Speaker 1: So there's a couple of things and I get into this.
- 38:01Speaker 1: I have a whole chapter dedicated to this. First of all,
- 38:04Speaker 1: if your kids are young, start doing things like five plans.
- 38:07Speaker 1: These are these are great plans that allow you to
- 38:10Speaker 1: set money aside for your kids for college. There's credit
- 38:13Speaker 1: cards that you could use where like instead of getting
- 38:15Speaker 1: points back for gift cards, percentage goes to these five
- 38:19Speaker 1: twenty nine plans. Ask family and friends instead of getting
- 38:21Speaker 1: big expensive gifts for your kid's birthdays or Christmas. You know,
- 38:25Speaker 1: if they could do instead something to a five twenty nine,
- 38:28Speaker 1: it adds up fast. Um. But I think for parents
- 38:32Speaker 1: in that situation, they have to at least start saving something.
- 38:36Speaker 1: So what I recommend is look at like something like
- 38:38Speaker 1: your grocery bill. All right. Most people don't realize how
- 38:41Speaker 1: much flexibility they have in that one expense. So it
- 38:45Speaker 1: amazes me because if you were to just do two
- 38:48Speaker 1: simple things, join your grocery stores, loyalty club and plan Okay,
- 38:53Speaker 1: you are a loyalty member right hard right there. You
- 38:57Speaker 1: just gave me an uppercut. Uppercut, it's it is. You
- 39:02Speaker 1: will save so much money by planning just your grocery
- 39:06Speaker 1: shopping around what's you know on loyalty program you create
- 39:09Speaker 1: your meals around that, look for coupons to save even
- 39:12Speaker 1: more that I've done this test, oh my god, so
- 39:16Speaker 1: many times over the past twenty years. Every time the
- 39:19Speaker 1: family saves at least sometimes people don't really so Okay,
- 39:25Speaker 1: So now let's say you're saving two hundred bucks a
- 39:27Speaker 1: month just by doing that, that's a year that you're
- 39:32Speaker 1: gonna be putting this aside for your kids, and you know,
- 39:36Speaker 1: start there. And I want to tell parents that are
- 39:38Speaker 1: facing it, you know, kids going off to college and
- 39:41Speaker 1: it's been a tough year. There's a lot of financial
- 39:43Speaker 1: aid packets out there that have you know, some to
- 39:46Speaker 1: do with merit and some to do with financial and
- 39:49Speaker 1: if your kid exceeds in a certain area, you know,
- 39:52Speaker 1: definitely I say, no matter what, no matter what your
- 39:55Speaker 1: financial situation, apply for any type of grant scholarship. You
- 39:58Speaker 1: never know what you're gonna get. And then how do
- 40:01Speaker 1: you start teaching your kids that is at a young
- 40:03Speaker 1: age about saving, right, That's okay. So it's interesting. My
- 40:08Speaker 1: husband and I were talking about that the other day
- 40:10Speaker 1: because he and I grew up with parents from the depression,
- 40:13Speaker 1: you know, out of the war, and so literally, I
- 40:16Speaker 1: mean every penny. I grew up appreciating every penny. My
- 40:20Speaker 1: dad was a hilarious, frugal Italian American guy, and you know,
- 40:24Speaker 1: and my and my husband too, but we don't feel
- 40:26Speaker 1: like we even instill that completely into our own kids.
- 40:29Speaker 1: So what I recommend and as I look back, when
- 40:31Speaker 1: I would have probably done differently is I would have
- 40:33Speaker 1: given a set allowance. I think kids really need to
- 40:36Speaker 1: learn that you they're a portion of of your money,
- 40:41Speaker 1: you know, is you earn it, and so whether it's
- 40:43Speaker 1: making your bed or helping out, cleaning dishes or whatever
- 40:46Speaker 1: it is, you get paid an allowance. And and from
- 40:50Speaker 1: that allowance, half of that has to go into a
- 40:53Speaker 1: savings account. I mean, there's a certain amount of pride
- 40:56Speaker 1: for kids when they get to ten dollars or a
- 40:58Speaker 1: hundred dollars or whatever might be. And then once they
- 41:02Speaker 1: have that savings then you could say, Okay, you have
- 41:06Speaker 1: a hundred dollars in your savings account. We're gonna keep
- 41:08Speaker 1: fifty dollars there, and you could spend fifty if you want,
- 41:12Speaker 1: or do you want to keep it in the savings
- 41:14Speaker 1: And most kids will say, I want to keep it,
- 41:16Speaker 1: you know, And and so it's kind of cool. Now
- 41:17Speaker 1: some parents will set up like a four oh one
- 41:20Speaker 1: K match for their kids, which is fun, right, So
- 41:22Speaker 1: it's like for every ten dollars you save, I'm gonna
- 41:26Speaker 1: give you two dollars, and so kids get motivated to save.
- 41:32Speaker 1: It is truly one of the best get gifts you
- 41:35Speaker 1: could give your kids is teaching them to appreciate money
- 41:38Speaker 1: and to save it. Because I love that. That is
- 41:42Speaker 1: such a smart idea, and I love the match idea
- 41:45Speaker 1: right like it's it's a great way. It's maybe even
- 41:48Speaker 1: better than an allowance in some ways, you know, because
- 41:50Speaker 1: that way they're getting rewarded for saving or you could
- 41:54Speaker 1: do both. Because what I've been doing instead of an
- 41:56Speaker 1: allowance is I let them like gain point and then
- 42:00Speaker 1: with their points they can get something from either Target
- 42:02Speaker 1: or Amazon. But then it's not teaching them anything other
- 42:05Speaker 1: than if if they do it, they get the gift
- 42:08Speaker 1: that they want. But that is I'm changing that. I'm
- 42:11Speaker 1: not I'm changing on you guys. I'm putting it out
- 42:14Speaker 1: here right now for all of y'all hold me accountable.
- 42:18Speaker 1: That's what I'm doing in the books. It's done. It's
- 42:22Speaker 1: the Teddy for a one K plan. It's happening. Thank
- 42:26Speaker 1: you so much for taking the time to talk with
- 42:27Speaker 1: me today. It was a pleasure. And tell us a
- 42:30Speaker 1: little bit more about your book and where everybody can
- 42:33Speaker 1: get it. So the book is the joy of saving money,
- 42:37Speaker 1: lessons I learned from my Italian American father, and twenty
- 42:40Speaker 1: years as a consumer reporter. It's available on Amazon, and
- 42:44Speaker 1: it really is three things. It's helping people realize that
- 42:48Speaker 1: there is joy and fun and saving and the importance
- 42:51Speaker 1: of it. And then it is showing people simple things,
- 42:55Speaker 1: secrets that are kind of just hiding in plain sight,
- 42:58Speaker 1: things that I learned after doing ten thousand few stories
- 43:01Speaker 1: of ways to save money, and then what you can
- 43:04Speaker 1: do to help others, because a big part of it
- 43:07Speaker 1: is once we empower ourselves, how can we then help
- 43:10Speaker 1: the greater good? So that's that is the book. It's
- 43:12Speaker 1: a fun read. I love it. Thank you so much.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Thank you for having you Teddy, Happy holiday, Happy holidays.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Tea Potter's thank you guys for tuning in. I had
- 43:22Speaker 1: so much fun chatting with so many different personalities today.
- 43:25Speaker 1: I figure I'll close out with talking with you guys
- 43:28Speaker 1: about our holidays. So for us, I have the kids
- 43:33Speaker 1: do their Santa lists, even though I'm pretty sure Bella
- 43:37Speaker 1: is like on the cusp of like Santa wink wink
- 43:40Speaker 1: hun sure, but she still does it. And like on
- 43:43Speaker 1: Cruise's list, was number one a baby brother, so we
- 43:47Speaker 1: knew he wasn't getting that. I'm like, you lost your
- 43:50Speaker 1: mands son, Honday and happening. But then they all kind
- 43:53Speaker 1: of asked for the same things. They asked for a
- 43:56Speaker 1: skateboard and a hoverboard and vans. So it really made
- 44:01Speaker 1: my holiday shopping pretty simple because I was like, they
- 44:05Speaker 1: all want the same thing. That being said, once I
- 44:08Speaker 1: actually purchased the hoverboard, my husband was like, I have
- 44:12Speaker 1: you lost your mind? You can't get our kids hoverboards.
- 44:15Speaker 1: They're dangerous. And I'm like, you know what, They'll figure
- 44:18Speaker 1: it out. And I, you know, I got the helmet
- 44:20Speaker 1: and the the things for their knees and the you know, hands, everything,
- 44:24Speaker 1: and I figure then it looks like it's so many
- 44:27Speaker 1: gifts because there's so many things to wrapp and then
- 44:30Speaker 1: I also, um, Santa is bringing them. They had a
- 44:34Speaker 1: really good deal on these kids Apple watches and Santa's
- 44:38Speaker 1: bringing them because a big thing that they've wanted for
- 44:40Speaker 1: Zoom School is to like set timers. They want to
- 44:43Speaker 1: know like they're act when they're active. But also you
- 44:45Speaker 1: can set your kids up with an eye cloud to
- 44:47Speaker 1: kind of only talk with you. So if I'm working
- 44:50Speaker 1: in here, my kids can go like, you know, send
- 44:53Speaker 1: me a little message like hi, Mom, you know I
- 44:55Speaker 1: need help in the room or whatever it is. And
- 44:57Speaker 1: so that I think Santa really was clutched on making
- 45:00Speaker 1: that decision. And uh, baby Dov, she's just you know,
- 45:04Speaker 1: she's getting baby baby stuff that I found on Amazon. Um.
- 45:08Speaker 1: And then Edwin, who I'm scared he's listening. He's of
- 45:11Speaker 1: course found these glasses that he likes that don't are
- 45:14Speaker 1: sold out everywhere. So I discour the internet, asked a
- 45:17Speaker 1: million people, but I found them and I cannot wait
- 45:21Speaker 1: for him to get them. Um. And then in regards
- 45:23Speaker 1: to me, uh, I don't normally get Christmas presents and
- 45:28Speaker 1: maybe a couple of drawings, and uh, Edwin's more of
- 45:31Speaker 1: like gives a big gift at some random point in
- 45:34Speaker 1: the year when he feels like it, which I ain't complaining.
- 45:38Speaker 1: But I wish all of you guys are very happy
- 45:40Speaker 1: holidays and I can't wait to talk to you soon.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Thanks for listening. Subscribe to any radio or wherever you
- 45:48Speaker 1: listen to podcasts.
