- 1:01Speaker 2: What a great week, too, as we'll kind of do
- 1:04Speaker 2: what we always do during football. We'll look back and
- 1:06Speaker 2: look ahead. How are you?
- 1:07Speaker 1: I am doing good. I'm just thinking about what it's
- 1:12Speaker 1: like around the country this week as, you know, people
- 1:17Speaker 1: are looking at, well, in the NFL, obviously, week one
- 1:20Speaker 1: in the books, in college football, it's Some people play
- 1:23Speaker 1: good opponents, and I just keep thinking about what it's
- 1:26Speaker 1: got to be like in Eugene, Oregon right now when
- 1:29Speaker 1: that performance against that type of team and to get dominated.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I always think about those poor guys because they take
- 1:39Speaker 1: it the toughest when you struggle like that.
- 1:42Speaker 2: There's no doubt, and Chris, Oregon struggled against BYU. We'll
- 1:47Speaker 2: start right there since you brought them up. I thought
- 1:48Speaker 2: I wanted to go there anyway, but Oklahoma State, Upset
- 1:52Speaker 2: on week one. We knew that they had a really young,
- 1:55Speaker 2: good staff come in. A lot of transfer portal players
- 1:57Speaker 2: over from North Texas. And then Oregon, I mean, they've
- 2:00Speaker 2: got problems.
- 2:03Speaker 1: They do. And the thing about it is they just
- 2:05Speaker 1: got handled at the line of scrimmage. They've got two
- 2:09Speaker 1: new coordinators, and yeah, I know there's adjustments, but that
- 2:13Speaker 1: doesn't factor into the problems of the physicality or the
- 2:17Speaker 1: lack thereof. There's some talent on that team. There's some...
- 2:21Speaker 1: guys that have got next-level ability, not just quarterback. And
- 2:27Speaker 1: to be playing that poorly is just surprising. And, again,
- 2:31Speaker 1: they got back in the game. I mean, it's not
- 2:35Speaker 1: very the lead. They got completely outplayed in that game.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And I know it was– I don't know how many
- 2:41Speaker 1: people saw it. They had a weather delay issue. And
- 2:44Speaker 1: it was kind of– it bled into two different time slots.
- 2:49Speaker 1: But I've got to tell you, it was not pretty
- 2:51Speaker 1: at all to see them struggle and be ranked as
- 2:54Speaker 1: high as they are. I tell you what's going to
- 2:56Speaker 1: be interesting in two weeks. This is going to be
- 2:59Speaker 1: a huge game when they play USC because you've got
- 3:03Speaker 1: the pressure on Oregon, but then you've got the pressure
- 3:06Speaker 1: on Lincoln-Riley and USC. Imagine if they lay an egg
- 3:09Speaker 1: against an angry, embarrassed Oregon team. That's just going to
- 3:16Speaker 1: be fun to watch here, but that's in a couple
- 3:18Speaker 1: of weeks.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Visiting with Chris Landry. Make sure to give him a

- 3:26Speaker 2: Mississippi State goes up to Minnesota. They get a 38-13 win.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Win this game handily. They were up 28-6 at the half.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Defense looks improved under Zach Arnett. Kamario Taylor looks to be,
- 3:37Speaker 2: you know, likely the best quarterback that they have had
- 3:39Speaker 2: since probably Nick Fitzgerald or Dak Prescott. You know, just
- 3:42Speaker 2: as far as a well-oiled machine. You know, God's going
- 3:44Speaker 2: to make you play 11-on-11. your thoughts on that game
- 3:47Speaker 2: and what you saw in now a big trip to
- 3:49Speaker 2: South Carolina coming up this weekend.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Well, we talked about it last week. I thought they'd
- 3:54Speaker 1: go up and handle Minnesota more athletic, better. They did that.
- 3:59Speaker 1: And a whole lot more. I mean, they dominated a game.
- 4:02Speaker 1: No question about it. They're impressive right now. They may
- 4:06Speaker 1: have the quarterback that's playing the best in the entire sec. Um,
- 4:10Speaker 1: they are flying around the football. Um, I'm excited what
- 4:15Speaker 1: I see. Let's see. Look, I think they can go
- 4:17Speaker 1: to South Carolina and win. I think Missouri is gettable,
- 4:22Speaker 1: although that's a good Missouri team. The next two weeks
- 4:25Speaker 1: are going to tell us a lot. Look, I mean, Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas,
- 4:32Speaker 1: that's going to ultimately kind of– that's tough. That's a
- 4:35Speaker 1: tough four-game stretch, although we've got a break on October
- 4:39Speaker 1: 10th after Alabama and before LSU. But I think South
- 4:43Speaker 1: Carolina ought to handle them first. And then Missouri is
- 4:47Speaker 1: going to be really pivotal because I think after that,
- 4:50Speaker 1: I mean, look, they've got chances in pretty much all
- 4:54Speaker 1: those games with maybe the exception of the four that
- 4:57Speaker 1: I mentioned. But let's just see how this plays out.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I'm excited to what I see. The quarterback gives them
- 5:04Speaker 1: a chance in any game, but they are playing well
- 5:08Speaker 1: around them. And the passing game is really efficient. But, no,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I'm really impressed with what I'm seeing. And, look, I
- 5:16Speaker 1: think as you win, the stakes get higher. And I
- 5:20Speaker 1: think South Carolina's got the– they're going to be in
- 5:24Speaker 1: for it this week. What a quarterback matchup. But South
- 5:27Speaker 1: Carolina's going to have to play very well to beat
- 5:29Speaker 1: Mississippi State, no question.
- 5:31Speaker 2: You mentioned Oklahoma. They go down to Michigan at the
- 5:34Speaker 2: Big House 17-10. That was a 10-0 ballgame. They came back,
- 5:37Speaker 2: tied it up. John Mateer looks good coming off the bus.
- 5:41Speaker 2: He looks good in the video room. He looks good
- 5:44Speaker 2: at the Manning Passing Academy. He didn't look good Saturday.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Just not a good passer, and that's the thing about it.
- 5:51Speaker 1: The run-threat quarterbacks are very dangerous, very difficult for defenses
- 5:55Speaker 1: to prepare for. He's got to be able to throw
- 5:57Speaker 1: the football accurately. I mean, you're seeing that, whether we
- 6:02Speaker 1: get to it or not, you're seeing that with some
- 6:03Speaker 1: other guys. I mean, you see that sometimes on Sundays.
- 6:07Speaker 1: You saw that with Sam Leather against Louisiana Tech. Mateer,
- 6:12Speaker 1: without the quarterback run, this team offensively is going to struggle.
- 6:18Speaker 1: They've got to get more efficiency out of the passing game.
- 6:20Speaker 1: It's a good defense. They can run the football, including
- 6:24Speaker 1: the quarterback run, but their ceiling is going to be
- 6:27Speaker 1: pretty low unless they can improve their passing game. That's
- 6:30Speaker 1: just the bottom line.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Alabama. Alabama. uh, got punched in the mouth early. Kentucky, uh,
- 6:35Speaker 2: put up a fight. That was a, uh, you know, 17,
- 6:38Speaker 2: 13 ball game in favor of Kentucky at the half.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Then Alabama put up, uh, you know, 32 points in
- 6:42Speaker 2: the second half and shut out Kentucky. What did you
- 6:44Speaker 2: see out of Alabama that you liked? And then what
- 6:45Speaker 2: maybe made you a little pause there on Alabama?
- 6:49Speaker 1: Uh, the, the, the, the defense is playing very well
- 6:52Speaker 1: and they're very good as I thought they would be.
- 6:54Speaker 1: They are that. And then some, they're very, very good.
- 6:58Speaker 1: And they, um, On all three levels, they're good. Their
- 7:02Speaker 1: secondary is outstanding. Linebackers are very instinctive. Playmakers. This is
- 7:08Speaker 1: a very good defense. And I thought there was a
- 7:11Speaker 1: little bit of an adjustment period early. Obviously, Kentucky got
- 7:16Speaker 1: a score basically off of mistakes. What I didn't like
- 7:20Speaker 1: about Alabama is just the mistakes they made early. I mean, basically,
- 7:24Speaker 1: they gifted Kentucky a touchdown. credit Kentucky for making a
- 7:29Speaker 1: really good play, but you've got to protect the football.
- 7:31Speaker 1: They didn't do that well at all. Made way too
- 7:34Speaker 1: many mistakes. And I look, I think the, again, the
- 7:38Speaker 1: efficiency in the passing game is something to see going forward.
- 7:42Speaker 1: How good can it be? That'll determine how far this
- 7:46Speaker 1: team can go because the quarterback is dynamic. But at
- 7:49Speaker 1: this point, he's making big plays for his team and
- 7:55Speaker 1: the opposition. So again, In essence, Kentucky was in the
- 7:58Speaker 1: game because Alabama played very poorly in the first half.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Then they settled down, didn't make mistakes, and they kind
- 8:04Speaker 1: of just torched Kentucky in the second half. So they
- 8:08Speaker 1: can't get away with that if they play that poorly
- 8:11Speaker 1: against better teams. But that's kind of what my summation
- 8:16Speaker 1: of watching Alabama.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Texas, boy, they got down big. Two turnovers, first two drives,
- 8:23Speaker 2: a fumble on the first play, a little swing pass
- 8:25Speaker 2: to the running back, and then the deep ball that
- 8:28Speaker 2: just a fluke. I say fluke. It was a freak play.
- 8:31Speaker 2: The receiver had it, and then it comes out of
- 8:33Speaker 2: his hands right into the DB's hands. It looked like
- 8:35Speaker 2: Ohio State was going to blow them out in their
- 8:37Speaker 2: own building, but you've got to credit Steve Sarkeesian, Arch Manning.
- 8:40Speaker 2: That offensive line played well, and Texas with a big comeback.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah, look, Texas is good. Again, how good you look depends.
- 8:50Speaker 1: relatively speaking on the mistakes you make or the, the,
- 8:54Speaker 1: you avoid, they, they played sloppy. You mentioned the drop
- 8:58Speaker 1: ball really hurt them. There was some big plays to
- 9:00Speaker 1: be had, or they could have gotten off to a
- 9:03Speaker 1: quicker start. And then because of the hole, they dug
- 9:06Speaker 1: themselves in Ohio state was very close to putting them away.
- 9:10Speaker 1: You know what I mean? If they don't, if they look,
- 9:14Speaker 1: I think Ohio state to me, still very good. Uh,
- 9:20Speaker 1: They've got a great receiver, but the number two guy,
- 9:23Speaker 1: if you can bracket him, can they make enough plays
- 9:26Speaker 1: away from number one? I don't know. And defensively, I
- 9:32Speaker 1: didn't think their defensive line played all that well, although
- 9:36Speaker 1: Texas' offensive line is good. It's a big win for
- 9:39Speaker 1: Texas because I think coming back to win it, I
- 9:44Speaker 1: think it does a lot for their momentum. But it
- 9:47Speaker 1: really comes down to, I think Texas, just played very sloppy,
- 9:53Speaker 1: very poorly, and left a lot of plays on the
- 9:55Speaker 1: field in the first half, or else that might have
- 9:58Speaker 1: been a more, you know, more decisive type of complete performance,
- 10:04Speaker 1: I would say, out of Texas. I think Texas will
- 10:07Speaker 1: be fine. I think Ohio State's going to be fine.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I think both of these teams will still likely end
- 10:11Speaker 1: up in the playoffs. But, yeah, I was impressed, and
- 10:15Speaker 1: you could see kind of the release, and I think
- 10:17Speaker 1: that had a lot to do with the reactions of
- 10:20Speaker 1: both Arch Manning and Steve Sarkeesian. It was almost like
- 10:24Speaker 1: there was bigger relief than joy, combination relief than joy,
- 10:27Speaker 1: I would say.
