- 1:43Speaker 6: Brian Hughes says we thought we were in the clear,
- 1:45Speaker 6: but some areas, he says, could get a pop up
- 1:47Speaker 6: shower to today. How's going to be the low eighties
- 1:50Speaker 6: for our flood recovery efforts that are going on as
- 1:52Speaker 6: we speak on our parking lot at eleven eleven Virginia Street,
- 1:56Speaker 6: D's and Charleston Moore and that come it up, Brian says,
- 1:58Speaker 6: showers see if we get him, should taper off the
- 2:00Speaker 6: night for live on the levee. Load is going to
- 2:01Speaker 6: be the upper sixties, beautiful day to Mars sun and
- 2:04Speaker 6: in the mid eighties, slight chance of showers and thunderstorms
- 2:06Speaker 6: on Sunday. Then the humidity returns as we head into
- 2:09Speaker 6: next week. Download the Metro News television app. Follow along
- 2:12Speaker 6: on social media for the best team in weather, Brian
- 2:14Speaker 6: Hughes and his folks. As I said earlier, our flood
- 2:17Speaker 6: donation drop is going on now as we speak on
- 2:19Speaker 6: our parking lot eleven eleven Virginia s Treat, East Charleston.
- 2:23Speaker 6: This is one of those things. All of our stations
- 2:25Speaker 6: are out there. KWSV one hundred CHS, the Beat, Kaz
- 2:30Speaker 6: the Mountain and whomever we can get off the lot
- 2:33Speaker 6: to come in here and join us, we'll join us.
- 2:36Speaker 6: Talk about it a little bit later on. We're looking
- 2:39Speaker 6: we can take cash donations. We got folks from the
- 2:41Speaker 6: Red Cross here. If you're going to write us a check,
- 2:44Speaker 6: just American Red Cross and in the memo line you
- 2:46Speaker 6: simply put West Virginia Flood Relief cleaning supplies. We're looking
- 2:50Speaker 6: for pet food, We're looking for non perishable items, all
- 2:55Speaker 6: that stuff, and I'll go over the entire list for
- 2:56Speaker 6: you a little bit later on. Now, we don't have
- 2:58Speaker 6: Jim Straw today as we normally do to talk about
- 3:01Speaker 6: Live on the Levee. Live on the Levee is still
- 3:02Speaker 6: going on, but I think and Strong will be there tonight,
- 3:06Speaker 6: but he's actually on a plane, I think as we speak.
- 3:08Speaker 6: But we'll talk about that coming up. Plus, Gnawa County Commission,
- 3:11Speaker 6: President of Ben Silango is going to stop by. The
- 3:13Speaker 6: County Commission met last night. Commissioner Selango made a motion
- 3:18Speaker 6: to appoint Jared Page to the seat that had been
- 3:21Speaker 6: held by Lance Wheeler, and Commissioner Tenant did not second
- 3:25Speaker 6: the motion, so it died for lack of a second,
- 3:27Speaker 6: So the strike process goes into effect. We'll talk about
- 3:30Speaker 6: that with the Ben Selango coming up a little bit
- 3:33Speaker 6: later on the show. And of course your calls and

- 3:53Speaker 6: good morning and happy Friday.
- 3:55Speaker 7: Good morning, and thank goodness it's Friday.
- 3:58Speaker 6: Indeed it is all right, is all always? We got
- 4:00Speaker 6: our pets. Picture posted at Dave Allen Radio and the
- 4:04Speaker 6: w c HS network facebook pages. Also Dave Allen on
- 4:07Speaker 6: X tell us about Malcolm.
- 4:10Speaker 7: So, Malcolm originally came to ksey h a as astray.
- 4:13Speaker 7: He was very sick and it turns out that he
- 4:15Speaker 7: had parvo. He has beat parvo. He is now available
- 4:20Speaker 7: for ad option and stronger than ever. He's great with
- 4:23Speaker 7: other dogs. He loves to go to play groups and
- 4:25Speaker 7: play Obviously, he's a three month old puppy, so he's
- 4:28Speaker 7: gonna have a zest for life that puppies as. He's
- 4:32Speaker 7: great with kids and I'm sure he would be no
- 4:35Speaker 7: problem to introduce to Katz. One thing about Malcolm, definitely
- 4:39Speaker 7: check out his picture. He is so unique looking. He
- 4:43Speaker 7: has blue freckles all over his face and then red
- 4:46Speaker 7: freckles all over the rest of his body. So very
- 4:48Speaker 7: interesting looking dog.
- 4:50Speaker 5: I mean when you.
- 4:51Speaker 6: Sent me that picture last night and I was taking
- 4:54Speaker 6: a look at. I thought, well, you're right. Unique is
- 4:56Speaker 6: an interesting way to describe young Malcolm. I mean, what
- 5:00Speaker 6: kind of dog is he? I mean, do you have
- 5:02Speaker 6: any idea and are those are? Is the freckling very
- 5:06Speaker 6: prevalent in Dulston.
- 5:07Speaker 5: I haven't seen a lot of that.
- 5:09Speaker 7: So the freckling happens in certain breeds. Certain hounds can
- 5:12Speaker 7: have that, Certain like healer cattle dog mixes can have
- 5:16Speaker 7: that as well as like certain some pointers can also
- 5:20Speaker 7: have the freckling pattern. So I would guess that he
- 5:22Speaker 7: is probably a healer mix just by the way that
- 5:25Speaker 7: coke pattern looks, but mixed with what is a nice
- 5:29Speaker 7: big question mark.
- 5:31Speaker 5: Well, he is a great, great looking dog.
- 5:34Speaker 6: I mean, he really really is. And we'll talk about
- 5:36Speaker 6: him a little bit later on. His name is Malcolm,
- 5:38Speaker 6: and again his pictures posted on my social media pages.
- 5:41Speaker 5: I want to talk about the.
- 5:42Speaker 6: Because we've had several We always have good stories from
- 5:45Speaker 6: the shelter, Angie, but we always have some that are
- 5:47Speaker 6: a little sad too. It's been a rough week at
- 5:49Speaker 6: the shelter.
- 5:51Speaker 7: Yeah, it absolutely has. So we have been hit back
- 5:56Speaker 7: to back to back with animals coming and we've seen
- 6:00Speaker 7: an uptick in illness of animals that are coming in
- 6:04Speaker 7: which we are happy to be able to help, extremely
- 6:06Speaker 7: happy to be able to offer a space and safe
- 6:09Speaker 7: space for these animals. But with that comes medicine, it
- 6:14Speaker 7: comes food, comes our staff that have to spend you know,
- 6:18Speaker 7: eight to ten hours a day taking care of these animals.
- 6:22Speaker 7: So right now we are definitely in the need of
- 6:24Speaker 7: donations or if you are able to foster and or
- 6:28Speaker 7: adopt some of these cases that we are taking on,
- 6:32Speaker 7: that's also something that can help greatly. But it has
- 6:35Speaker 7: definitely been a very busy and rough week to be
- 6:40Speaker 7: at Caseyha.
- 6:41Speaker 6: Now did we have and I saw this just in passing.
- 6:44Speaker 6: I apologize I don't have all the details in front
- 6:46Speaker 6: of me, but did we have another case where there
- 6:49Speaker 6: were some kiddies abandoned somewhere that you guys him a possession.
- 6:53Speaker 7: Of yesterday while our staff were in the building, which
- 6:57Speaker 7: is kind of like the frustrating part, if you will,
- 7:00Speaker 7: our staff were there, twenty cats were left in our
- 7:03Speaker 7: parking lot while our staff members were running play groups
- 7:07Speaker 7: with the adult dogs and getting things started for the morning.
- 7:11Speaker 7: So twenty cats were just left in the parking lot.
- 7:14Speaker 7: If you are in a situation like that, we especially
- 7:17Speaker 7: if we are in the building, please come talk to us.
- 7:20Speaker 7: If we can't take the animals right away, we can
- 7:21Speaker 7: at least give you supplies to care for them. But yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 7: leaving the animals in a parking lot, we don't have
- 7:27Speaker 7: one hundred percent history on where they're from, what medicines
- 7:31Speaker 7: and vaccines they've had, you know, who gets along with who,
- 7:35Speaker 7: anything like that. So that's that's the difficult part about it.
- 7:39Speaker 7: And again we will offer resources if it's a matter
- 7:42Speaker 7: of you know, we can't take them right now, but
- 7:44Speaker 7: here's how we can help in the meantime.
- 7:46Speaker 6: I mean, we appreciate people wanting to do the right thing,
- 7:48Speaker 6: but I mean, you know, come on, if you're there
- 7:51Speaker 6: and it's doing business hours, knock on the door, you know,
- 7:54Speaker 6: don't don't just drop them off. Knock on the door,
- 7:56Speaker 6: no questions ask I mean, you may ask the questions
- 7:58Speaker 6: about like where did they come from? Do you know
- 7:59Speaker 6: that been vaccinated? But I mean, I'm sorry, I got
- 8:03Speaker 6: a real.
- 8:03Speaker 5: Issue with that. I'm sorry, you know, I mean, especially
- 8:06Speaker 5: if you're there.
- 8:07Speaker 8: You know.
- 8:08Speaker 7: Yeah, that's the that's the tough part, is I mean, again,
- 8:10Speaker 7: we were in the building, so you know, come in,
- 8:13Speaker 7: talk to us. Don't be afraid to talk to us.
- 8:16Speaker 7: We you know, we've promised to handle things gently. And
- 8:20Speaker 7: again I do appreciate and have respect for you know,
- 8:23Speaker 7: trying to get your animals help, but leaving them in
- 8:25Speaker 7: the parking lot there. I've seen it, tom and Tommy
- 8:28Speaker 7: Inn where animals break out of the carriers that they're
- 8:30Speaker 7: in and then now they're on a busy road or
- 8:33Speaker 7: they're in the woods, exposed to a lot of animals.
- 8:36Speaker 7: I've seen animals that you know, people have hit on
- 8:39Speaker 7: the property and we haven't gotten to them in a
- 8:42Speaker 7: timely manner, like we haven't been able to see them
- 8:44Speaker 7: or find them. And yesterday was a really hot day.
- 8:47Speaker 7: So if you're hiding them, then it's they're exposed to
- 8:50Speaker 7: the elements. It's just a lot of things can happen
- 8:52Speaker 7: when people.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Do that, all right, So I had the text here
- 8:55Speaker 6: for you said that a litter of kittens dumped out
- 8:57Speaker 6: on the Nitro Saint Alban's Bridge on Wednesday.
- 9:00Speaker 5: Were they not brought to the shelter.
- 9:03Speaker 7: I don't recall that, but what I can do is
- 9:06Speaker 7: double check anything that came in on Wednesday, and you know,
- 9:09Speaker 7: see if they made it or not that I'm not
- 9:11Speaker 7: I don't recall that.
- 9:12Speaker 5: On Wednesday, tell us about the kitty.
- 9:14Speaker 6: You have one posted on your social media that had
- 9:17Speaker 6: to have both of her eyes removed.
- 9:20Speaker 7: So that is something that falls under the category of
- 9:22Speaker 7: we've had a lot of very serious illnesses come into
- 9:26Speaker 7: the building recently. And do you know the name of
- 9:31Speaker 7: the one in specific that you're talking about that has
- 9:34Speaker 7: happened a lot.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Yeah, there was just there was a I don't have
- 9:36Speaker 6: it in front of me right now, but there was
- 9:37Speaker 6: a posted this week. There was a picture of a
- 9:40Speaker 6: kitten that had to have its eyes removed or again
- 9:42Speaker 6: I had to have its eyes removed. It's on your
- 9:44Speaker 6: Facebook page. I'm sorry, I didn't mean you can't you
- 9:46Speaker 6: buy surprise.
- 9:47Speaker 9: On that book?
- 9:47Speaker 6: Yeah, it's posted on the facebook page. Maybe we can
- 9:49Speaker 6: get an update on that particular kitten.
- 9:51Speaker 7: Yeah, next Yeah, if it's the one I'm thinking about
- 9:54Speaker 7: that that would be a result of a system so
- 9:57Speaker 7: the year up a respiratory infection where the eyes, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 7: they are not treated in time, which you know, depending
- 10:05Speaker 7: on how fast and how quickly they get to us,
- 10:08Speaker 7: they will sometimes crust shut to Harper.
- 10:12Speaker 6: Harper Yeah, that's exactly the one. Yeah, one of one
- 10:16Speaker 6: hundred and twenty five animals at the shelter receiving various
- 10:19Speaker 6: kinds of medical treatment, and Harper is the one and
- 10:23Speaker 6: it and the poor thing had to.
- 10:24Speaker 5: Have its eyes removed. But hopefully, I mean could make
- 10:29Speaker 5: someone a good pet, you know.
- 10:30Speaker 7: Absolutely Yep. Having a blind animal is I mean, it's
- 10:35Speaker 7: not much different than having one that can see. There
- 10:37Speaker 7: are a couple of things you have to do, so
- 10:39Speaker 7: you absolutely make a wonderful pet for somebody out there.
- 10:41Speaker 5: Yeah, you guys out about anywhere.
- 10:43Speaker 7: This weekend, we're staying home this weekend. We're finishing wrapping
- 10:48Speaker 7: up the Empty the Shelters adoption special, so we're going
- 10:52Speaker 7: to be doing that at kh Yeah.
- 10:54Speaker 6: And that's and I don't know whether you brought that
- 10:56Speaker 6: up or not, but Malcolm, our dog this week, our
- 10:58Speaker 6: pet of the week, is part of that of the
- 11:02Speaker 6: Empty of the Shelter thing with bissels.
- 11:03Speaker 5: So he's only five bucks, right, yep.
- 11:06Speaker 7: Any kennel dog, which is what Malcolm falls under, is
- 11:09Speaker 7: going to be five dollars to it all. But some
- 11:12Speaker 7: very generous console came in and sponsored the next ten
- 11:16Speaker 7: adult dogs that get adopted so you don't even have
- 11:18Speaker 7: to pay anything for anywhere to go.
- 11:20Speaker 6: I shared that on my personal page because I always do,
- 11:24Speaker 6: and a friend of mine from Logan texted or not texted,
- 11:29Speaker 6: but actually posted on my post on my personal page
- 11:32Speaker 6: and said that he bet it was a sibling of
- 11:35Speaker 6: an animal that he and his family just adopted. He said,
- 11:38Speaker 6: we just adopted one that looked like that from the shelter,
- 11:40Speaker 6: like a week or two ago.
- 11:41Speaker 5: And he said, I bet that's a sibling. I don't
- 11:43Speaker 5: know that for a fact, but they looked a lot alike.
- 11:45Speaker 6: They probably are all right, Kegs for Canines tell us
- 11:50Speaker 6: about that.
- 11:51Speaker 7: Kegs for Canines. The early bird tickets are alive, so
- 11:54Speaker 7: get those while you can. They will not last forever.
- 11:57Speaker 7: It is coming up at the end of August at
- 11:59Speaker 7: the Red Carpet Lounge. We're very excited for that, again,
- 12:03Speaker 7: my favorite event that we do. You get her drinks
- 12:05Speaker 7: here and pet dogs.
- 12:06Speaker 5: What more could you want? Angie?
- 12:08Speaker 6: I appreciate you being here. We'll talk again next week.
- 12:11Speaker 6: Thanks a lot.
- 12:11Speaker 7: Absolutely have a good weeknd.
- 12:13Speaker 6: Angie, getlnwaterkinaw Charlest you've made association with this week'sdop me.
- 12:16Speaker 6: Please pet of the week picture posted Dave Allen Radio
- 12:18Speaker 6: on Facebook at the WCCHS Network Facebook page and also
- 12:21Speaker 6: at Dave A seventy or Dave Allen on X. His
- 12:24Speaker 6: name is Malcolm. He is three months old. He's a
- 12:27Speaker 6: par of o survivor, but he's doing fine now. Very
- 12:30Speaker 6: interesting looking dog if you go over and look at
- 12:32Speaker 6: the picture, because he's got a little blue specs in
- 12:35Speaker 6: him and little freckling going on. Just a beautiful dog,
- 12:39Speaker 6: she said. Probably get some healer in him. He appears
- 12:42Speaker 6: to be good with other dogs and kids and based
- 12:45Speaker 6: on his personality, but you always want to be careful.
- 12:47Speaker 6: Of course, Angie says he's probably going to be good
- 12:49Speaker 6: with cats as well. And he's only five bucks through
- 12:51Speaker 6: the twenty six thanks to the folks at.
- 12:53Speaker 5: The Abyssel Foundation.
- 12:54Speaker 6: But again an anonymous soul has come out of the
- 12:57Speaker 6: woodwork and said, we're going to sponsor the next ones,
- 12:59Speaker 6: like the next I think, she said, tan or so,
- 13:01Speaker 6: so going up to the shelter and get yourself a
- 13:05Speaker 6: pet and get Malcolm and join me every Friday morning

- 14:09Speaker 10: You may think speeding a little isn't really speeding, but
- 14:12Speaker 10: even a few miles over the limit has consequences. First,
- 14:16Speaker 10: there's the fine. Your first offense could cost you one
- 14:19Speaker 10: hundred dollars plus court costs, and you'll pay a lot
- 14:22Speaker 10: more if it's your second or third offense. Eventually you
- 14:24Speaker 10: can lose your license or even go to jail, and
- 14:27Speaker 10: those are minor consequences. Speeding causes ten thousand deaths each year.
- 14:32Speaker 10: So next time you think a few miles over isn't
- 14:34Speaker 10: a big deal, think again. This message is brought to

- 16:41Speaker 6: I did want to mention that you are not Jim Strawn,
- 16:44Speaker 6: nor do you play Jim Strawn on the radio. But
- 16:46Speaker 6: Jim Strawn is actually on a flight back to Charleston
- 16:50Speaker 6: for Live on the Levee tonight. He will be there
- 16:53Speaker 6: tonight Live of the Levy, of course, presented by Moses
- 16:55Speaker 6: Auto Group. Tonight it's Alan Stone along with Sasha Colette
- 16:58Speaker 6: and the Magnolias. Actually MC to show several years ago
- 17:02Speaker 6: in southern West Virginia. Sasha Colette and the Magnolias. They're
- 17:05Speaker 6: absolutely fantastic. Six point thirty tonight. How's the west that
- 17:09Speaker 6: you're in here? I'm gonna utilize your skills.
- 17:11Speaker 5: How's the weather looking? Weather's gonna be actually pretty good.
- 17:14Speaker 13: We've got a chance for just a couple of spotty
- 17:16Speaker 13: showers trying to bubble up today, but that's not going
- 17:18Speaker 13: to First of all, it's talking to be severe, and secondly,
- 17:20Speaker 13: we're not gonna have any flooding with that. So the
- 17:23Speaker 13: weather's actually gonna be pretty nice for this afternoon, for
- 17:25Speaker 13: live on the levee, into this evening out into the
- 17:27Speaker 13: evening hours, and listen, your Saturday is gonna be nice
- 17:29Speaker 13: as well.
- 17:30Speaker 5: Sunday pre decent.
- 17:32Speaker 13: Next week we do have some thunderstorms that will start
- 17:34Speaker 13: to bubble up, if well, a few on Monday, probably
- 17:36Speaker 13: a few more on Tuesday.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Though.
- 17:38Speaker 5: Are you going to do?
- 17:39Speaker 6: Is wind him up and say weather, and there he
- 17:40Speaker 6: goes Sam Steve Am Steve Animal here ninety eight to seven,
- 17:44Speaker 6: A mountain wild, wonderful classic rock. How you doing, man, Bam,
- 17:47Speaker 6: I'm here. You're here all right now as we speak.
- 17:51Speaker 6: Several of our folks are out on the lot eleven
- 17:53Speaker 6: eleven Virginia Streets and Charleston collecting donations. Through the Red Cross.
- 17:57Speaker 6: We're all gonna be out there, all of our stations.
- 17:59Speaker 5: Pot of stuff already, I know.
- 18:01Speaker 6: I mean I went out there right before the show
- 18:02Speaker 6: and we started this thing at eight o'clock. And I
- 18:04Speaker 6: want to give a big shout out to the West
- 18:06Speaker 6: Virginia Association Affairs and Festivals because they're out there as well.
- 18:11Speaker 6: Yesterday we just when we were talking about it on
- 18:14Speaker 6: the air, we had people saying, what do I make
- 18:18Speaker 6: a check to? A big shout out to Harvey Peyton
- 18:21Speaker 6: Peyton Law Firm, who kind of got it started. Several
- 18:23Speaker 6: others have come forward as well, and I don't know
- 18:25Speaker 6: whether they actually want to be announced or not, so
- 18:28Speaker 6: I won't say the rest of them without their permission.
- 18:30Speaker 6: But bottom line is West Virginia coming through Steve and
- 18:33Speaker 6: doing what West Virginia's doing that's helping out absolutely.
- 18:35Speaker 14: I was out there a little while ago too, and
- 18:37Speaker 14: it's amazing the support. I actually got some pictures from
- 18:43Speaker 14: my wife. She sent me the byside we go up there.
- 18:46Speaker 14: She actually graduated from Buchanan High Oh wow. So we've
- 18:51Speaker 14: been up for the Strawberry Festival and it's amazing. Unfortunately,
- 18:54Speaker 14: like the by side by Centennial Hotel. It's got water
- 18:58Speaker 14: right up all the way up. Yeah, and I love
- 19:01Speaker 14: that the Lounge of the eighty eight. It's a great
- 19:04Speaker 14: place to hang out. And so those folks definitely need
- 19:07Speaker 14: our help and we can do some good for the neighborhood.
- 19:09Speaker 13: So you know what, some of the people who've already
- 19:11Speaker 13: been donating have been previous flood victims themselves, and that
- 19:16Speaker 13: that's what is Kathy hess who is love Kathy? I
- 19:21Speaker 13: love Kathy, Secretary Warner's right hand lady.
- 19:23Speaker 6: For both Secretary Warners. Yes, exactly, the old one.
- 19:27Speaker 13: Then yeah, she said, you know, she she told a
- 19:30Speaker 13: story about her when she was younger and her son
- 19:33Speaker 13: was ten, and that called her.
- 19:36Speaker 5: Daddy said what are we going to do?
- 19:38Speaker 13: And he goes, you got to go up on the
- 19:39Speaker 13: hill and get unstopped the culvert or it's going to
- 19:42Speaker 13: take everything, wash it all way.
- 19:44Speaker 5: We won't have nothing.
- 19:45Speaker 13: And she went up there and she did it, and
- 19:47Speaker 13: she talked about being in flood victims.
- 19:49Speaker 14: I mean, when you see the sun national news across
- 19:51Speaker 14: the country. I've had people reaching out to me, you know,
- 19:54Speaker 14: just you know, checking, hey, were you affected by this?
- 19:57Speaker 14: I said, fortunately not. However, unfortunately thousands of people have
- 20:01Speaker 14: been So.
- 20:02Speaker 6: As we speak, we've got a news nation here in
- 20:04Speaker 6: the studio and this is video from yesterday of Governor
- 20:06Speaker 6: Morrisey at the of course yesterday Brian, as you all know,
- 20:10Speaker 6: we got confirmation that the two people had perished. We
- 20:14Speaker 6: initially the reports were is that we didn't know of
- 20:17Speaker 6: anybody that died in this, but that's there's still there's
- 20:20Speaker 6: still several unaccounted for, so we just we just don't know.
- 20:26Speaker 6: And I do want to mention programming know Jeff Jenkins
- 20:28Speaker 6: is actually heading up there now and we're going to
- 20:30Speaker 6: be checking in with Jeff later today on Talkline the
- 20:33Speaker 6: Wilson Meadow as well, but also on Metro News midday
- 20:35Speaker 6: as well.
- 20:35Speaker 5: All right, so what are we looking for here? Here's
- 20:37Speaker 5: what we need.
- 20:38Speaker 6: Bottled water and gatorade, non perishable ready to eat foods,
- 20:43Speaker 6: toilet paper, paper, towels, cleaning supplies, clorox, wifes, extension cords
- 20:48Speaker 6: and fans, air mattresses, trash bags the regular ones or
- 20:52Speaker 6: the heavy duty or even better, mops, buckets and brooms, shovels, rakes,
- 20:58Speaker 6: anything that you can clean up with work gloves, rubber
- 21:01Speaker 6: boots and n ninety five masks, and those masks Brian
- 21:04Speaker 6: As you know, you're they say meteorologist or you're kind
- 21:06Speaker 6: of like scientists trying.
- 21:07Speaker 5: To yeah, pretty much.
- 21:08Speaker 15: Sometimes something like that will explain why those masks are important,
- 21:12Speaker 15: because because right now, as you've got all that silt
- 21:15Speaker 15: that's that's in these houses, all this what's mud will
- 21:19Speaker 15: dry up and then it is completely it's it's contaminated.
- 21:22Speaker 13: And so once it becomes airborne and once it dries
- 21:25Speaker 13: up becomes dust, you're breathing in contamination, significant amounts of it.
- 21:30Speaker 6: And last year, I know that when we had some
- 21:32Speaker 6: of the flooding that was going on in well various
- 21:34Speaker 6: places last year, there are a lot of people get
- 21:36Speaker 6: that got sick from the clean up. You look and
- 21:39Speaker 6: and and and tetanus where Angie Settle from Health Right
- 21:42Speaker 6: was on this show on After News Midday with This
- 21:43Speaker 6: yesterday talking about the need for tetanus shots and things
- 21:46Speaker 6: like that.
- 21:46Speaker 13: Well, and you need won every five years to make
- 21:49Speaker 13: sure you're you're good to go. Uh and and you
- 21:52Speaker 13: almost need a preventative tetnis shot. You know, you can
- 21:55Speaker 13: get one afterwards, but it's better have preventive because the
- 21:57Speaker 13: sickness is going to be incredible.
- 21:58Speaker 14: Especially if you're eating around me. But the one thing though,
- 22:04Speaker 14: you know, like when you see the floodwaters, it's brown.
- 22:06Speaker 14: It's brown for a reason, so you know, keep that
- 22:09Speaker 14: in mind. That's yeah, you know that water is dirty.
- 22:12Speaker 13: And even and and the thing is even though we
- 22:14Speaker 13: have we have some of the cleanest rivers around. The
- 22:16Speaker 13: reason surprised some people like there's not a clean river.
- 22:19Speaker 16: Now.
- 22:20Speaker 13: We have some very clean rivers up in these these parts,
- 22:23Speaker 13: but when when it floods, it takes everything with it.
- 22:26Speaker 5: It all gets mixed together.
- 22:28Speaker 13: Yeah, oil, diesel, there's gasoline, there's.
- 22:32Speaker 14: System and it rises and it gets into the water.
- 22:35Speaker 6: So yeah, but ave voland shilling five Eddieline is brought
- 22:37Speaker 6: to you a part by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest
- 22:39Speaker 6: injury law firm, and we have a run in now
- 22:42Speaker 6: from Dale Cooper.
- 22:42Speaker 5: How you doing, man, I'm little okay.
- 22:45Speaker 17: I was a little late because we got three straight
- 22:47Speaker 17: huge drop offs just as I was coming in. So
- 22:50Speaker 17: we had a bunch of folks coming by that heard
- 22:52Speaker 17: you on the radio and also you, I believe on
- 22:54Speaker 17: the radio.
- 22:55Speaker 5: Wait a minute, this was on the radio.
- 22:56Speaker 16: Hey what do you know?
- 22:57Speaker 7: Right?
- 22:57Speaker 17: But they were they literally had heard about right before
- 23:00Speaker 17: the show started, went and grabbed some stuff and dropped
- 23:03Speaker 17: by here. Just a little bit ago. We had a
- 23:05Speaker 17: whole truck full of boxed up supplies, pre boxed up supplies.
- 23:09Speaker 17: We just got maybe I don't know fifty mops and
- 23:11Speaker 17: brooms that somebody bought and Balkin dropped off. Huge donations
- 23:16Speaker 17: coming from people. And what do we expect from our community.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Right best listeners in the world, the question question, thank you?
- 23:22Speaker 5: Uh and uh.
- 23:23Speaker 6: And the folks that Triton are going to be Trenton Rophie.
- 23:25Speaker 6: They're going to be helping us out to get those
- 23:27Speaker 6: items there.
- 23:27Speaker 13: And Trent and Roufs has been has been on site
- 23:30Speaker 13: up there in Buchanan and uh, they were the you know,
- 23:32Speaker 13: they've been in the midst of things. They actually uh
- 23:34Speaker 13: unfortunately the two people that they uh that did perish,
- 23:38Speaker 13: they were they were there as they were as they
- 23:40Speaker 13: were being cut out of the car essentially. And so
- 23:43Speaker 13: they they've been their first hand already and have seen
- 23:45Speaker 13: the the literally the death and destruction and uh they're
- 23:49Speaker 13: changed people uh after this and uh and but they
- 23:52Speaker 13: want to help, that's why they're here. They're happy to
- 23:55Speaker 13: help out and they're going to be driving everything up
- 23:57Speaker 13: along with the Red Cross. You know, we're working to
- 23:59Speaker 13: make this happened. Bleach cleaning supplies, everything you can possibly do,
- 24:03Speaker 13: rubber gloves, things that nature.
- 24:04Speaker 6: We need all of the pet food and pet supplies.
- 24:06Speaker 6: On Friday, you know, we do our segment or not
- 24:08Speaker 6: be please spend up the week and I want to
- 24:10Speaker 6: make sure people realize that they need pet food.
- 24:13Speaker 17: Yeah, and that's something else. We just got a bunch
- 24:15Speaker 17: of We got maybe six bags of dog food and
- 24:19Speaker 17: six palettes of cat foods, so we got quite a
- 24:21Speaker 17: bit of it out there. And I'm not sure if
- 24:23Speaker 17: you guys addressed this or not, but we did have
- 24:24Speaker 17: a few folks asking questions about how deployment was going
- 24:27Speaker 17: to work, how the supplies were going to get there
- 24:28Speaker 17: and stuff. We're working with locals in the community up there,
- 24:32Speaker 17: so we're going to be delivering straight to folks that
- 24:34Speaker 17: are working with the locals to get these supplies distributed.
- 24:37Speaker 5: So don't worry. It's not going through several different steps
- 24:39Speaker 5: before against there.
- 24:40Speaker 17: It's basically going to leave straight from here and we're
- 24:42Speaker 17: going to take it to the folks that.
- 24:43Speaker 6: And they've got the staging area set up now. They
- 24:45Speaker 6: got it yesterday I think Brian at West Virginia Wesleyan.
- 24:47Speaker 6: So that's where things are going to go to.
- 24:49Speaker 13: And that's the thing Wesley is making sure that everything's
- 24:51Speaker 13: divvied up and putting the proper spots. I mean you
- 24:53Speaker 13: have everything from feminine hygiene products that are needed to
- 24:57Speaker 13: to you know, baby formula to diapers, I mean all
- 25:00Speaker 13: the all the basic stuff. If there is any type
- 25:03Speaker 13: of clothing, socks or socks are very important.
- 25:06Speaker 5: You use brand new socks.
- 25:07Speaker 13: We don't need anything use, uh, but brand new socks
- 25:09Speaker 13: are important because first of all, when you're in that
- 25:11Speaker 13: water and it's getting you're getting into your shoes and
- 25:14Speaker 13: stuff things.
- 25:14Speaker 5: You know, you gotta change clothes, clothes all the time.
- 25:17Speaker 13: So uh, And that's why cash is important because what
- 25:20Speaker 13: happens is you have the Red Cross in the different
- 25:23Speaker 13: organizations that know, these folks need clothing. We're gonna go
- 25:26Speaker 13: get them taken care of. They need stuff that's fits,
- 25:29Speaker 13: it's proper. They don't need to use stuff. And that's
- 25:31Speaker 13: why that's why the cash helps out.
- 25:32Speaker 6: And you can write checks if you want to do
- 25:34Speaker 6: that to the American Red Cross and put it just
- 25:36Speaker 6: put in that memo line you can put in West
- 25:38Speaker 6: Virginia flood relief. You want to give us the green
- 25:40Speaker 6: stuff out here too. I mean that's perfect. That's perfect
- 25:42Speaker 6: time flashlights and batteries too. That's something I don't think
- 25:45Speaker 6: that we'd mentioned earlier because there's still a lot of
- 25:47Speaker 6: people up there that don't have power.
- 25:49Speaker 14: It won't have power for a long time.
- 25:50Speaker 17: Somebody also brought several bags of disposable rags. That's the
- 25:53Speaker 17: first time I'd seen that, And that's a really good
- 25:55Speaker 17: one too, because they're a little bit more robust than
- 25:57Speaker 17: the paper towels. You can reuse and bring them out
- 25:59Speaker 17: and then you could throw them away afterwards. Those are
- 26:00Speaker 17: very useful as well.
- 26:01Speaker 6: And I will say, we don't, you know, encourage you
- 26:04Speaker 6: to go to any particular store, but I will say
- 26:06Speaker 6: that last night my wife and I went out to dinner,
- 26:08Speaker 6: and we were out at Valley Park last night for
- 26:10Speaker 6: the night market out there, and we stopped by.
- 26:12Speaker 5: In our neighborhood. We have one of the uh one.
- 26:15Speaker 6: Of the dollar general grocery store type places at the
- 26:17Speaker 6: DJ marketplace. They have a dollar They have an aisle
- 26:21Speaker 6: of nothing but things that are a dollar and there
- 26:23Speaker 6: were a lot of cleaning supplies in those right there,
- 26:26Speaker 6: Things like the smaller containers bleach. Smaller containers will make
- 26:29Speaker 6: bigger containers bleach.
- 26:30Speaker 5: So if you want to.
- 26:30Speaker 6: Hit up that place, you want to hit up all
- 26:33Speaker 6: the big lots.
- 26:34Speaker 5: Target we go. We don't care where you go, just.
- 26:37Speaker 13: Go right well, and don don is incredibly important because
- 26:41Speaker 13: at first of all, it cuts through grease, grease and
- 26:44Speaker 13: oil and everything else, so that that helps significantly. And
- 26:46Speaker 13: and there, and mind you, there are a number of
- 26:48Speaker 13: animals that also need to be cleaned off as well,
- 26:50Speaker 13: and they're using don for some of them as well.
- 26:52Speaker 6: So I saw a picture of a friend of mine
- 26:54Speaker 6: lives up there, and he sent me a picture last.
- 26:56Speaker 5: Night of this.
- 26:59Speaker 6: You just can't imagine what it is until you. I've
- 27:03Speaker 6: interviewed man Aman, and I have interviewed several people over
- 27:06Speaker 6: the last couple of days. But one of my buddies
- 27:07Speaker 6: actually lives in Buchanon. And not that any one item
- 27:12Speaker 6: is more important than anything else, but I'm a car guy,
- 27:15Speaker 6: and this guy had a collection of Jaguars and they
- 27:17Speaker 6: weren't all expensive. I mean, there's a lot of them
- 27:19Speaker 6: were cars. He was working on all just laid out
- 27:22Speaker 6: there on the street last night, A Buchanan.
- 27:24Speaker 13: I mean, the Kenaw County Sheriff's Apartment sent an entire
- 27:28Speaker 13: team up there to help out the uptur County Sheriff's Department,
- 27:31Speaker 13: and they've been working there, and one of my best
- 27:34Speaker 13: friends is on that team.
- 27:36Speaker 5: And he said, you can't imagine the destruction. He said.
- 27:39Speaker 13: He said, in town intown, the water came up and
- 27:43Speaker 13: it's a mess. He says, water's gone back down, he said.
- 27:45Speaker 13: But out in the county, things are gone.
- 27:47Speaker 5: He said. Houses are gone, roads are gone, Bridges are gone.
- 27:50Speaker 5: He said, it's really and it wasn't.
- 27:52Speaker 6: Really until yesterday Brian and guys that they could get
- 27:55Speaker 6: into some of those areas. So you don't know how
- 27:58Speaker 6: gone it is until you get up there, because we're
- 28:00Speaker 6: talking about I mean, but Cannon is a nice little
- 28:02Speaker 6: West Virginia city, but a lot of these rural areas
- 28:04Speaker 6: that are outside of town you couldn't even access, So
- 28:07Speaker 6: you don't even know what the damage is until you
- 28:09Speaker 6: get in there.
- 28:10Speaker 17: I just think back to twenty sixteen, and my mom
- 28:12Speaker 17: lives in Beaumont, so I saw a lot of the
- 28:14Speaker 17: destruction out there. What we broadcast from out there as
- 28:16Speaker 17: well at the FEMA location in Clinton, and but also
- 28:19Speaker 17: my mom lives in Beaumont, so I was out there
- 28:21Speaker 17: a lot, and even today, but especially up until maybe
- 28:25Speaker 17: a year or two ago, when you were driving out there,
- 28:27Speaker 17: you could see the water line still when the surviving
- 28:29Speaker 17: structures are out there, and it was feet above the ground.
- 28:31Speaker 17: And just imagine what all those communities had to go
- 28:34Speaker 17: through to get all of that water out to get
- 28:35Speaker 17: these structures relivable again. And it took some of those
- 28:37Speaker 17: places years and years and years to get to that point.
- 28:40Speaker 17: And I just feel for the people in these communities
- 28:42Speaker 17: that's starting at ground zero in this it's a long journey.
- 28:45Speaker 16: They need our help.
- 28:46Speaker 6: We had a texta at a reminder of what happened
- 28:47Speaker 6: after the twenty sixteen flood. Do we know if there'll
- 28:49Speaker 6: be anyone up there this weekend cooking for these people?
- 28:52Speaker 6: I know that people came together and made hot dogs
- 28:54Speaker 6: and hamburgers back then. I can tell you that every
- 28:56Speaker 6: Friday on midday we do a lunch Bot segment, and
- 28:58Speaker 6: that's what we are going to do. You're going to
- 29:00Speaker 6: feature one of those places that is cooking for people.
- 29:02Speaker 6: It may be somebody's grandma in her backyard.
- 29:04Speaker 5: We don't care.
- 29:05Speaker 6: They don't have to have a license as far as
- 29:06Speaker 6: we're concerned, as long as they're fit, long as they're
- 29:08Speaker 6: feeding people.
- 29:09Speaker 14: Absolutely, And I don't think people understand been in a
- 29:12Speaker 14: flood before, years and years ago, and the water comes
- 29:15Speaker 14: up quickly, like and suddenly you're thinking, you know, it's like,
- 29:19Speaker 14: oh what your mind is not really thinking that.
- 29:23Speaker 5: What's going on?
- 29:24Speaker 14: Like suddenly you've got a photo water and then suddenly
- 29:28Speaker 14: there's two feet of water and you're seeing all your stuff. Well,
- 29:30Speaker 14: I need to get that, you know, it's floating. I
- 29:33Speaker 14: need to get out. You know, you don't know where
- 29:34Speaker 14: to go where.
- 29:36Speaker 6: And that's one of the great things in talking with
- 29:38Speaker 6: Angie Settle of Health Right yesterday because she brought up
- 29:40Speaker 6: a very good point. When these with floodwaters come up,
- 29:42Speaker 6: people get their kids, they get you know, maybe a
- 29:45Speaker 6: photo album or two, their Bible, they get, they get
- 29:48Speaker 6: their pets.
- 29:48Speaker 5: But they don't think about the medication.
- 29:50Speaker 6: And there are some people that having that daily medication
- 29:54Speaker 6: is their lifeblood literally. And so the folks at Health
- 29:57Speaker 6: Right here and Charleston are working with people up there.
- 30:00Speaker 6: Similar agencies up there to try to get much needed medication.
- 30:03Speaker 6: We're talking about anti seizure medications. We're talking about I
- 30:06Speaker 6: think heart medications that people have to have to survive
- 30:10Speaker 6: day to day. So contact the folks at health right
- 30:12Speaker 6: here in Charleston if you'd like to, because they could
- 30:14Speaker 6: probably take donations as well.
- 30:16Speaker 5: I mean as well.
- 30:17Speaker 6: All right, we're out on our parking lot. We will
- 30:19Speaker 6: be throughout the day till six o'clock tonight. And I
- 30:22Speaker 6: just grabbed a few bodies brought you guys in here.
- 30:25Speaker 6: You're the greatest listeners in the world. You've always come
- 30:27Speaker 6: through with us no matter what we've asked. We really
- 30:30Speaker 6: need you guys to help this time, and we don't
- 30:31Speaker 6: give If you bring us a gallon of bleach, will
- 30:34Speaker 6: take it.
- 30:34Speaker 5: If we bring us a palette of bleach, will take it.
- 30:38Speaker 17: We literally had a guy right before I came in
- 30:39Speaker 17: that he walked down the street. He brought one box
- 30:42Speaker 17: of contractor backs. Great, we need him. That's perfect, right, yeah.
- 30:45Speaker 14: Yeah, whatever, even if you're in your car and you
- 30:48Speaker 14: can't come back later, you have some cash in the
- 30:51Speaker 14: cash tray I call mine.
- 30:55Speaker 18: I want to say pennies on the wrong end of
- 30:59Speaker 18: the industry world. This orders. I'm picking those up and
- 31:03Speaker 18: using them daily. But yeah, I turned my ash tray
- 31:06Speaker 18: into the car years ago into a cash trae, so yeah,
- 31:09Speaker 18: mostly changed.
- 31:10Speaker 5: Way to go.
- 31:11Speaker 6: Just telled everybody you have money in your card. Yeah
- 31:15Speaker 6: it's a nineteen.
- 31:16Speaker 5: What are you driving? I just have six grain of
- 31:20Speaker 5: the car money. I wanted the casino and I finally
- 31:22Speaker 5: got rid of that.
- 31:24Speaker 6: All right, Brian, Brian Hughes, appreciate you coming in, Dale

- 34:20Speaker 6: will be out there until six o'clock tonight. Cana County Commission,
- 34:24Speaker 6: President of Ben Selango Joints. Yes, good morning, sir, Good morning,
- 34:27Speaker 6: and I want to get away from County Commission stuff
- 34:30Speaker 6: for this moment.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Say thank you very much.
- 34:32Speaker 6: The Selango Law firm just dropped off a check for
- 34:34Speaker 6: one thousand dollars here you're well, Thank you very much.
- 34:37Speaker 5: I will take care of that, make sure it gets
- 34:38Speaker 5: in the right hands.
- 34:39Speaker 21: When we had we had the massive flooding in Elkviw
- 34:42Speaker 21: ten years ago, people from all over the state, all
- 34:43Speaker 21: over the country, quite frankly, pitched in to help. So
- 34:46Speaker 21: it's uh, it's good that people here are pitching in
- 34:49Speaker 21: to help our friends up and up sure and.
- 34:52Speaker 6: Yeah, and all those areas up there, you just can't Again,
- 34:56Speaker 6: I've known Robbie Skinner. I don't know whether you know
- 34:58Speaker 6: Robbie or old Farewell mayor of Mechanic. He and I
- 35:00Speaker 6: go back way. He'll be back on the show again
- 35:02Speaker 6: today and just talking to him. And you know, Robbie
- 35:05Speaker 6: is one of those guys that Ben is always upbeat,
- 35:08Speaker 6: always got a smile, on his face. You can just
- 35:11Speaker 6: hear it the other night when I was talking to
- 35:12Speaker 6: him and he's like, Dave, this is this is bad.
- 35:15Speaker 5: Yeah, bad.
- 35:15Speaker 21: And I've reached out to Robbie and we sent several
- 35:19Speaker 21: Kanaw County deputies up, yeah, a few days ago to
- 35:22Speaker 21: help out. And I'll let Robbie know that everybody in
- 35:24Speaker 21: Kanaw County's behind them anything they need.
- 35:27Speaker 6: And and you know there's but Cannon, there's Weston, and
- 35:30Speaker 6: then we kind of forget. I was talking to Stephen
- 35:32Speaker 6: Allen Adams yesterday that in the area around Saint Mary's
- 35:35Speaker 6: and some of the and crossed in the border over
- 35:36Speaker 6: in Ohio, those folks got tornadoes there and and it's
- 35:40Speaker 6: you know, you can there's a lot of damage there
- 35:42Speaker 6: as well, So we don't want to forget about.
- 35:43Speaker 5: Those people as well.
- 35:44Speaker 21: Yeah, it's it's uh, it's fairly widespread over there. So
- 35:48Speaker 21: we're we're we're trying to help as many people as
- 35:51Speaker 21: we can. But I appreciate you guys doing the flood drive. Yeah,
- 35:54Speaker 21: getting the supplies up to them, that's you know, very important.
- 35:57Speaker 5: Well, I mean we have.
- 35:58Speaker 6: The idea, but it's the listeners that come up with
- 36:00Speaker 6: this stuff. It's listeners and people like you and Harvey
- 36:02Speaker 6: Payton and Jay Goldman hooked us up with some money yesterday,
- 36:07Speaker 6: So appreciate all that. All right, So, last night, County
- 36:10Speaker 6: commission meaning you and Commissioner Natalie Tennant, could not come
- 36:13Speaker 6: to an agreement on the replacement for Lance Wheeler.
- 36:16Speaker 5: And of course you know Lance Wheeler's story.
- 36:17Speaker 6: He's resigned the remainder of his tenure to head up
- 36:21Speaker 6: the Ambulance Service Authority. Your comment, Well, so Commissioner Tenant
- 36:27Speaker 6: and I met, and I wasn't sure how the vote
- 36:29Speaker 6: would go last night. I wasn't sure if she would
- 36:33Speaker 6: vote for Jared or not. But you know, when I
- 36:36Speaker 6: was looking at the applicants and we had a lot
- 36:38Speaker 6: of qualified folks, you know, I think six or seven submitted.
- 36:40Speaker 6: There were five that were qualified legally qualified to.
- 36:46Speaker 5: Serve.
- 36:47Speaker 21: And you go through the applications and the resumes and
- 36:52Speaker 21: the letters of recommendation. In fact, Jared Page had I
- 36:57Speaker 21: think last night I said twenty two. It was actually
- 36:59Speaker 21: twenty three letters recommendation from mayors and US senators and
- 37:05Speaker 21: law enforcement and firefighters and the other apples didn't have
- 37:09Speaker 21: a single letter of recommendation. So you know, I thought
- 37:12Speaker 21: it was pretty clear the Republican voters had spoken in
- 37:16Speaker 21: the primary. They elected Jared Page as they've selected him
- 37:19Speaker 21: as the Republican nominee. The Republican Executive Committee, the County
- 37:24Speaker 21: Executive Committee sent us a letter indicating they wanted Jared appointed.
- 37:27Speaker 21: The State Republican Party sent a letter indicating they wanted
- 37:32Speaker 21: Jared appointed. And Treasurer Larry Pack sent a letter. You know,
- 37:37Speaker 21: Shelley Moore Capital sent a letter. I mean, there were
- 37:39Speaker 21: lots and lots of support for Jared, So that's why
- 37:42Speaker 21: I made the motion. And Jared was the only candidate
- 37:45Speaker 21: of the five that had any government experience whatsoever. Jared,
- 37:48Speaker 21: of course is vice mayor of Saint Albans, he was
- 37:51Speaker 21: municipal judge, he's on city council, so he has a
- 37:54Speaker 21: lot of government experience. I know that he's worked with
- 37:57Speaker 21: the legislature a lot, So it was to me it
- 38:01Speaker 21: was a pretty clear choice. Now, I've yet to find
- 38:05Speaker 21: a person in the world that agrees with me one
- 38:07Speaker 21: hundred percent of the time. You know, my wife and
- 38:09Speaker 21: I have been married twenty five years and we're in
- 38:11Speaker 21: an agreement like seventy five percent at.
- 38:13Speaker 5: The time, pretty high for most married couple.
- 38:15Speaker 21: And for the twenty five percent that we're not in agreement.
- 38:18Speaker 21: You know, she will tell you that I'm always wrong,
- 38:20Speaker 21: so you know that's it's not unusual for people to
- 38:23Speaker 21: have disagreements. I mean, and I'm saying we're disagreeing. We
- 38:28Speaker 21: just did not agree on that particular issue. But you know,
- 38:30Speaker 21: Commissioner Tenant and I agree on most of the issues, thankfully,
- 38:34Speaker 21: and we're going to have to agree over the next
- 38:35Speaker 21: thirty days because we do not have a third commissioner.
- 38:40Speaker 21: So my hope is when we come back. We've asked
- 38:42Speaker 21: the Republican Executive Committee to send us three names.
- 38:46Speaker 6: And again it has to be a Republican and has
- 38:48Speaker 6: to be from that district.
- 38:49Speaker 5: Yes, districts three or four. Yeah, that's the way this works.
- 38:52Speaker 21: So Republican districts three or four, and they have to
- 38:56Speaker 21: have been registered as a Republican for at least a year.
- 38:59Speaker 21: So she can't go which your party registration and move
- 39:02Speaker 21: to District three or four and expect to get the appointment,
- 39:05Speaker 21: because it's not going to happen. But the way that
- 39:08Speaker 21: that works is then they will send us three names
- 39:11Speaker 21: by August fifteenth. We have a meeting on August twenty seventh.
- 39:16Speaker 21: We're going to allow each of the three candidates to
- 39:20Speaker 21: speak for two to three.
- 39:21Speaker 6: Minutes, basically saying why they're the Yeah, field of the
- 39:25Speaker 6: best gamp Yeah.
- 39:26Speaker 21: And then we will because we may not know, We
- 39:29Speaker 21: may not know any of the three people that they submit.
- 39:32Speaker 21: It could be it could be anyone, So as long
- 39:34Speaker 21: as they're qualified, it could be. They don't even have
- 39:36Speaker 21: to submit resumes or anything, just just a name. So
- 39:40Speaker 21: I want to be able to at least know their background.
- 39:42Speaker 21: And hopefully we'll know all three, but perhaps we won't,
- 39:44Speaker 21: and then we will. We'll do public strikes. You know,
- 39:47Speaker 21: the way that the statute is now worded, the one
- 39:51Speaker 21: who has the most tenure on the commission has to
- 39:53Speaker 21: strike first and then and that's me, and then Commissioner
- 39:57Speaker 21: Tenant will strike second, and whoever's left is your next
- 40:01Speaker 21: Canawa County Commissioner.
- 40:02Speaker 5: Were you surprised that you and Commissionert Tenant could not
- 40:06Speaker 5: agree on this or I was?
- 40:12Speaker 21: No, I wasn't surprised, but I will tell you that
- 40:15Speaker 21: I understand why she did what she did. Of course,
- 40:19Speaker 21: she applied for the vacancy back in twenty twenty four
- 40:21Speaker 21: when Commissioner Carper resigned abruptly and she wasn't selected. Now,
- 40:27Speaker 21: I've come on this show before, and I came on
- 40:29Speaker 21: this show back in May of twenty four, and I
- 40:32Speaker 21: will say it again. I supported her. I wanted her
- 40:35Speaker 21: to be the Democratic appointment. She was the nominee. It
- 40:40Speaker 21: was obvious to me. She had eight years as Secretary
- 40:43Speaker 21: of State, tons of governmental experience. She was to me
- 40:47Speaker 21: a very qualified candidate, and also she was selected by
- 40:51Speaker 21: the Democratic voter. So I have been very consistent.
- 40:54Speaker 5: Now.
- 40:55Speaker 21: What happened then was we couldn't reach an agreement and
- 40:58Speaker 21: what I did differently by back in twenty four that
- 41:01Speaker 21: I'm not doing now, and quite frankly, I probably should
- 41:03Speaker 21: have done this in twenty four too. But you know,
- 41:05Speaker 21: the Commission had been through a lot that you know,
- 41:07Speaker 21: we were under tons of scrutiny. We were getting served
- 41:11Speaker 21: with subpoenas from the US Department of Justice, and you know,
- 41:16Speaker 21: the staff was rattled. So we needed some calm at
- 41:19Speaker 21: the Commission and that calm was Mark Slotnik. So Commissioner
- 41:24Speaker 21: Wheeler and I agreed that if we're not going to
- 41:26Speaker 21: agree on Natalie, that we could agree on Mark Slotnik
- 41:29Speaker 21: and Mark Slotnik was an excellent, excellent choice to get
- 41:32Speaker 21: through the interim. In fact, you know, back in twenty
- 41:35Speaker 21: seventeen when I applied, Mark Slotnink also applied then, and
- 41:40Speaker 21: you know several there were like fourteen people, thirteen people
- 41:43Speaker 21: that applied, and the commission picked me Hoppy in Kent
- 41:47Speaker 21: and Mark even you know, he tried to apply back then.
- 41:50Speaker 21: But Mark has been with the County Commission forever and
- 41:53Speaker 21: that's why we selected him. And it was it was
- 41:55Speaker 21: a good, steady choice, and it was good for the staff.
- 41:59Speaker 21: You know, as difficult as that period was on the commissioners,
- 42:04Speaker 21: it was more difficult on the staff because it was
- 42:06Speaker 21: just so uncertain. So that's why I did what I
- 42:09Speaker 21: did back in twenty twenty four. Now you fast forward
- 42:12Speaker 21: then Chuck Miller, wonderful attorney, our prosecuting attorney. He was
- 42:17Speaker 21: actually served as US attorney for a long time. He
- 42:20Speaker 21: decided to retire. Essentially the same situation. We had a
- 42:25Speaker 21: Republican nominee, which was Deb Rusnick. She had just won
- 42:28Speaker 21: that election. She was going up into the general against
- 42:33Speaker 21: the Democratic nominee, and we unanimously selected Deb. So to me,
- 42:38Speaker 21: I thought we at least I have been very consistent
- 42:41Speaker 21: on who should get that appointment if there's a vacancy
- 42:44Speaker 21: after And I'll say this because Lord only knows what
- 42:46Speaker 21: will happen in twenty eight or thirty or thirty two
- 42:48Speaker 21: or whatever. If there's a vacancy after an election, I
- 42:53Speaker 21: think he should go to the nominee. That's just my thought,
- 42:57Speaker 21: and not to mention, Jared was by far the most
- 43:01Speaker 21: qualified of the folks that had submitted applications last night.
- 43:04Speaker 21: And I want to point out that you are a Democrat.
- 43:06Speaker 21: I'm a Democrat, and Jared Page is a Republican, So
- 43:09Speaker 21: this is not really a partisan that you and Natalie
- 43:10Speaker 21: Tennant's both. To me, it's not partisan. I do not
- 43:13Speaker 21: think the County Commission should be a partisan body. It
- 43:17Speaker 21: can be sometimes, but typically it's not. I don't care
- 43:20Speaker 21: if it doesn't matter to me if it's a Republican idea,
- 43:24Speaker 21: Democratic nominee nominee. I only care if it's a good idea,
- 43:27Speaker 21: and I want to make sure that we're moving forward.
- 43:29Speaker 21: So unfortunately, we had a small setback last night, but
- 43:33Speaker 21: we'll see what happens on August twenty seven. The good
- 43:37Speaker 21: news is the voters get to decide who they want
- 43:41Speaker 21: their next commissioner to be.
- 43:42Speaker 5: In November.
- 43:43Speaker 21: You know, we have two Jared Pages run on the
- 43:45Speaker 21: Republican side.
- 43:46Speaker 5: And he won the primary. He won them. He does
- 43:49Speaker 5: have opposition to the general.
- 43:50Speaker 21: He does Paul Monroe, you know, great guy.
- 43:52Speaker 5: I know Paul.
- 43:54Speaker 21: But the voters get a decide. And so I understand
- 43:57Speaker 21: that perhaps there was a concern about giving Jared an
- 44:01Speaker 21: unfair advantage in the general. Perhaps that was, you know,
- 44:04Speaker 21: one concern. But as I point out last time I
- 44:07Speaker 21: was on the show, it's not an advantage. In fact,
- 44:10Speaker 21: I think the majority of people who receive appointments lose
- 44:14Speaker 21: the next election.
- 44:15Speaker 6: Okay, and I gonna take a break, but I want
- 44:17Speaker 6: you to follow up on that point. And we sat

- 47:37Speaker 6: Commission President Ben Selango is here now Texas says been
- 47:40Speaker 6: you're part of a dying breed of Democrat. Now with
- 47:43Speaker 6: the radicals quickly taken over, you sound more independent. Actually
- 47:45Speaker 6: I'm a former Democrat myself. Papa text, Well.
- 47:50Speaker 21: I think there are radicals on both sides and I
- 47:52Speaker 21: think that the fifteen percent on each side is what
- 47:56Speaker 21: folks pay attention to, and then there's the seventy percent
- 47:59Speaker 21: of all the rest with right and we're just kind
- 48:01Speaker 21: of we just want to do the right thing. We
- 48:03Speaker 21: wanted to just move move forward, do the right thing
- 48:06Speaker 21: and have no issues, but unfortunately we get I think
- 48:10Speaker 21: a lot of things are sidetracked. And by the side
- 48:13Speaker 21: shows it happens.
- 48:15Speaker 6: And by the way, I do want to say I
- 48:16Speaker 6: have commissioned President Selango on the show.
- 48:19Speaker 17: Now.
- 48:20Speaker 6: Commissioner Tenant has been on the show. I mean she
- 48:21Speaker 6: guest hosted for me at one point anytime. Yeah, while
- 48:25Speaker 6: I was on vacation, she guest hosted for me one day.
- 48:28Speaker 6: But she's more than welcome to come on the show
- 48:30Speaker 6: at any times. Natalie, if you're just reach out, you're
- 48:32Speaker 6: more than welcome to come on the show anytime. Do
- 48:33Speaker 6: you want you want as well? I just actually had
- 48:36Speaker 6: you already scheduled today anyway, So are you hopeful because
- 48:40Speaker 6: between now, how many meetings do you have between now
- 48:42Speaker 6: and that one?
- 48:43Speaker 5: Just once?
- 48:43Speaker 21: We have one in early August and then one on
- 48:45Speaker 21: August twenty seventh. I was thinking about if we could
- 48:48Speaker 21: do it in the first meeting in August, but there's
- 48:52Speaker 21: a statute that we have to follow, so we have
- 48:54Speaker 21: to give the Executive Committee enough time to meet or
- 48:57Speaker 21: if their chair is gonna pick it, that's up to them.
- 49:00Speaker 21: Their bylaws, they get to select the names. And then
- 49:03Speaker 21: I didn't think we'd have enough time to do that
- 49:05Speaker 21: in time for our August sixth meeting, So we've asked
- 49:08Speaker 21: them to submit the names by August fifteenth, and those
- 49:10Speaker 21: will be public. You know, we'll turn over the uh,
- 49:13Speaker 21: we'll make sure that we publish the letter that they
- 49:15Speaker 21: send us with the names on it, and then we
- 49:17Speaker 21: will come out on August twenty seventh and do our strikes. Now,
- 49:21Speaker 21: that doesn't mean that, first of all, doesn't mean Jared's
- 49:24Speaker 21: gonna beile a list right right, Yeah, I presume he will,
- 49:27Speaker 21: since I got a letter from the Republican Executive Committee
- 49:30Speaker 21: asking us to appoint him. But it could be could
- 49:33Speaker 21: be three other names or there. You know, even if
- 49:36Speaker 21: Jared's on the list, maybe he is not stricken and
- 49:40Speaker 21: he serves or maybe shoot, maybe I have a change.
- 49:43Speaker 5: Who knows. I mean, anything can happen between now and then.
- 49:45Speaker 5: But now obviously you're not allowed to.
- 49:48Speaker 6: I mean I would think you can't because well you
- 49:51Speaker 6: number one, You and Natalie Tenant both Democrats, so a
- 49:53Speaker 6: lot of like you would be contacting the Republican and saying, hey,
- 49:56Speaker 6: we want this person of that person. I mean, I mean,
- 49:58Speaker 6: I guess you could talk to Republicans all I know,
- 50:00Speaker 6: I understand.
- 50:01Speaker 5: I'm just saying.
- 50:02Speaker 6: I'm just saying, but there's not going to be You're
- 50:03Speaker 6: just gonna have to play the waiting.
- 50:05Speaker 21: This is their decision. They get to pick it, and
- 50:08Speaker 21: I'm not going to try to influence it. They get
- 50:10Speaker 21: to send me whoever in Natalie, whoever they want to send,
- 50:13Speaker 21: and it'll be three names, and I'm not going to
- 50:15Speaker 21: interfere with that process. To me, the Republican voters spoke
- 50:19Speaker 21: in the primary in Kannall County. They said who they want,
- 50:24Speaker 21: and I assume that Jared will be in Lewis, but
- 50:25Speaker 21: it doesn't mean he will be and they can send
- 50:27Speaker 21: us whoever they want.
- 50:28Speaker 5: All right, one of them will be a commissioner.
- 50:29Speaker 6: All right for a while anyway, and we'll see what
- 50:32Speaker 6: happens after that. There was all right, Ken County Commission
