- 0:00Speaker 1: Two decades of doing morning drive radio differently doing it
- 0:04Speaker 1: his way like old Blue Eyes, except he has a
- 0:08Speaker 1: little more hair. The Morning Show with Preston Scott twelve
- 0:14Speaker 1: past the Hour, US congress Woman Kat cameick with us
- 0:17Speaker 1: and thrilled to be here in the news of a
- 0:22Speaker 1: new member of her family coming. Kat. We've talked a
- 0:26Speaker 1: little bit this morning about Look, we all love the president.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We love what he's doing largely, there's always things we
- 0:33Speaker 1: wish were different. But are you concerned at all that
- 0:37Speaker 1: this talk about greenland and the talk of a third
- 0:40Speaker 1: term that he takes and he distracts from the business
- 0:44Speaker 1: that needs to get done.
- 0:47Speaker 2: So a couple of things. One, if it sounds incredibly windy,
- 0:50Speaker 2: it's because I'm walked into the capital and it is
- 0:54Speaker 2: absolutely frigid, especially for Flordian right now, so for about
- 0:58Speaker 2: all the women in the background. But then on the
- 1:02Speaker 2: issue of you know, I'll just use the third term
- 1:04Speaker 2: as an example, Do I think that he's serious? No,
- 1:07Speaker 2: I think that, you know, the president, he's very good
- 1:12Speaker 2: at some shock and aweest. It does more to throw
- 1:15Speaker 2: off his opponents than anything else. So I'm not too
- 1:19Speaker 2: worried about anything really being seriously considered in that way,
- 1:23Speaker 2: and if it were, I would oppose it because what
- 1:27Speaker 2: we know has been done on our side will absolutely
- 1:30Speaker 2: be done on the other side. And as a constitutional conservative,
- 1:35Speaker 2: it's pretty clear I'm not interested in the Constitution, so
- 1:41Speaker 2: we would definitely not be in support of that. So
- 1:44Speaker 2: I think most of this is mostly for shock and awe,
- 1:46Speaker 2: And again I'm all in on the America First agenda,
- 1:50Speaker 2: but it has to be focused and I have a
- 1:53Speaker 2: lot of concerns about that at this moment.
- 1:55Speaker 1: What are your expectations for the upcoming announcement to on
- 2:00Speaker 1: Liberation Day the tariff announcements. Have you been cue on anything.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah. In fact, we've been having a lot of conversations
- 2:07Speaker 2: about how that's going to impact Florida specifically. You know,
- 2:11Speaker 2: a lot of people in our neck of the woods,
- 2:13Speaker 2: particularly in the ag industry, are very concerned because the
- 2:17Speaker 2: number one industry that sees retaliatory tariffs is agriculture, and
- 2:23Speaker 2: so folks are very nervous. There's some discussions about what
- 2:27Speaker 2: the administration would do to try to ease that pain,
- 2:31Speaker 2: but we need to be very honest about the fact
- 2:34Speaker 2: that and I'm sure I'm getting in an elevator, So
- 2:36Speaker 2: sorry about what that would mean the in the what
- 2:48Speaker 2: I say, short term pain for long term gain. And
- 2:52Speaker 2: I'm laughing because one of my Democrat colleagues is hopped
- 2:54Speaker 2: in the elevator with me and he's given me a look.
- 3:02Speaker 2: He just often and he's looking at me like uh huh, yeah, okay, Kat,
- 3:08Speaker 2: But no, I think that that's we have, especially in Misita, Florida,
- 3:12Speaker 2: experienced decades of unfair practices that have put us at
- 3:18Speaker 2: a disadvantage, particularly in Florida. I mean, I goes back
- 3:21Speaker 2: to NAFTA, So there has to be reckoning and there
- 3:26Speaker 2: has to be an adjustment because I'm all for free trade,
- 3:30Speaker 2: but it has to be fair trades, yes, and what
- 3:31Speaker 2: we've seen is not fair. Kat.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Stand by. We're gonna let you get settled here for
- 3:37Speaker 1: a second. Hopefully you'll get settled into your office. I
- 3:40Speaker 1: feel so bad as you're walking to make you do
- 3:43Speaker 1: this interview. I feel like I should just hang up,
- 3:45Speaker 1: but I can't. Twenty one minutes past final segment, here
- 3:54Speaker 1: with US congress Woman Cat Camick, Florida's third congressional district. Cat,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I don't know if when you're back home or even
- 4:01Speaker 1: while you're gone if your office is getting hammered like
- 4:03Speaker 1: some other congressional offices of the GOP. But it is.
- 4:08Speaker 1: It is unbelievable what I'm watching happen with the disinformation
- 4:12Speaker 1: regarding Social Security. Senior adults and activists on the left
- 4:19Speaker 1: are trying to turn this into they're taking away our benefits.
- 4:22Speaker 1: They're gonna cut benefits. I don't know of any proposal
- 4:25Speaker 1: to cut Social Security benefits, do you.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I still have yet to come across that one. But again,
- 4:34Speaker 2: this is this is the playbook from you know, circa
- 4:37Speaker 2: you know, the beginning of the two thousands. This is
- 4:40Speaker 2: the George Soros blueprint. And you know, I was born
- 4:44Speaker 2: and raised in Colorado, and there was actually a book
- 4:47Speaker 2: written about what George Soros did in the state of Colorado,
- 4:52Speaker 2: talking about how they did the medical marijuana then the
- 4:56Speaker 2: legalization of marijuana, how they used fear mongering tactics on
- 5:00Speaker 2: national issues that were just patently false. This is the
- 5:05Speaker 2: playbook and there it was very effective. Then it's going
- 5:08Speaker 2: to be used again now and people are seeing it
- 5:11Speaker 2: in action. You have paid protesters going to these town halls,
- 5:14Speaker 2: shutting these members down. And it's not because they think
- 5:18Speaker 2: that they can actually change someone's mind. They're there because
- 5:23Speaker 2: they want to shame Republican members of Congress. So we've
- 5:26Speaker 2: been getting protests at our office, and for the ones
- 5:29Speaker 2: that we know are are constituents, I've actually offered. I said,
- 5:34Speaker 2: come sit down and have a meeting with me. And
- 5:36Speaker 2: in fact I met with two ladies. They call themselves
- 5:40Speaker 2: the Gainesville Democrat Badass Feminists. I think that's their official
- 5:46Speaker 2: group name, and yes, I know. They sat down and
- 5:51Speaker 2: they immediately hit on the social security issue, and I said,
- 5:54Speaker 2: I said, ladies aren't familiar with the fact that in reconciliation,
- 5:58Speaker 2: it is a violation of the Bird rule to touch
- 6:01Speaker 2: social security. It cannot be done. Even if people wanted to,
- 6:05Speaker 2: which no one wants to, it cannot be done. They said, well,
- 6:08Speaker 2: how come that never gets talked about. I said, because
- 6:11Speaker 2: no one wants to actually have a conversation. People just
- 6:13Speaker 2: want to scream at each other. And so we actually
- 6:16Speaker 2: ended up having a very productive conversation and it ended
- 6:19Speaker 2: with them saying we wish we had this information because
- 6:22Speaker 2: we don't want to go out and tout false, false narrative.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I think that there are people who are getting caught
- 6:28Speaker 2: up in this that don't know better, and I admittedly
- 6:33Speaker 2: I said, you know, Republicans, we've always been bad messengers.
- 6:37Speaker 2: We've never been very effective when it came to telling
- 6:39Speaker 2: the story and getting the truth out. That's just always
- 6:42Speaker 2: been a weakness collectively of the party. So we have
- 6:45Speaker 2: a lot of work to do in reconciliation. We cannot
- 6:48Speaker 2: touch social Security and no one is looking to take
- 6:53Speaker 2: away social Security, period, hard stop, full stop.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I have tried to explain to listeners that the argument
- 7:01Speaker 1: to make about DOZE because they try to tie DOZE
- 7:04Speaker 1: and what Elon Musk is doing looking at social Security
- 7:08Speaker 1: as see see what they're doing. They're cutting, they're cutting,
- 7:11Speaker 1: they're cutting, and yeah, they're making it more efficient and
- 7:14Speaker 1: they're also finding fraud to protect your precious social security.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Isn't that the argument?
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yes? I mean, and there was a great interview I
- 7:23Speaker 2: only got to catch bits of it with Brettbaer and
- 7:26Speaker 2: really kind of the leaders of DOZE. Yeah, and of
- 7:28Speaker 2: course he was there and they said, you know, they said,
- 7:32Speaker 2: it's absolutely staggering the amount of fraud and abuse that
- 7:36Speaker 2: gets thrown onto social Security. They said, the calls that
- 7:41Speaker 2: come in where you have scammers that are calling into
- 7:44Speaker 2: the Social Security Administration and pretending to be someone else,
- 7:48Speaker 2: changing the benefits and sizening the money away. And not
- 7:52Speaker 2: to mention the illegals, the non citizens that are collecting
- 7:54Speaker 2: Social Security. We should be all collectively as Americans fighting
- 7:59Speaker 2: to get rid of this type of crap, this garbage
- 8:02Speaker 2: that is really really damaging the system. I mean, and
- 8:06Speaker 2: again point me in the direction of the one hundred
- 8:08Speaker 2: and seventy nine year old that is collecting built a
- 8:12Speaker 2: security check. I want to know their nutritional habits and
- 8:15Speaker 2: I want their skincare routine. Okay, So this is absurd
- 8:19Speaker 2: that anyone is willing to go out and.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Defend that last question. Before we let you go, you
- 8:24Speaker 1: had mentioned a few visits back the need to do
- 8:27Speaker 1: a bill that requires background checks of those working in Congress.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Where are we on that?
- 8:33Speaker 2: So we are aiming to introduce this week or next.
- 8:38Speaker 2: It is pretty staggering the amount of pushback that I
- 8:41Speaker 2: have already received. But you know me, I am a
- 8:45Speaker 2: negative reinforcement type person. So the more pushback I get
- 8:49Speaker 2: from Republicans and Democrats, the more I continue to push
- 8:53Speaker 2: to get it done. Because it is staggering the amount
- 8:56Speaker 2: of foreign government influence that is taking place here on
- 9:00Speaker 2: Capitol Hill through organizations like the Muslim Brotherhoods for example.
- 9:05Speaker 1: YEP.
- 9:06Speaker 2: And then of course it goes without saying that you
- 9:09Speaker 2: have access to the United States Capitol to members of Congress,
- 9:13Speaker 2: and you should. We should have a background check done
- 9:16Speaker 2: on everyone, period, full stop. I mean, you have to
- 9:19Speaker 2: have a background check to work at publics. Why shouldn't
- 9:21Speaker 2: you have a background check to work in our nation's capital.
- 9:24Speaker 2: It makes no sense. So that bill is going to
- 9:27Speaker 2: be introduced. We're going to be doing a lot of
- 9:30Speaker 2: media around it because it's going to take we the
- 9:32Speaker 2: people to get this to the finish line because Washington,
- 9:36Speaker 2: as we all know, they're very slow to adopt change
- 9:39Speaker 2: and embrace change. So we're going to need everybody all
- 9:42Speaker 2: hands on deck.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Well God to help them if they push against you
- 9:45Speaker 1: now that you're Mama in.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Waiting, I know, I know, terrifying. Kat.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Thanks again and we'll talk in a couple of weeks.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Appreciate you have a great week everybody, and go Gators.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Oh that hurt, but I know what you mean. Thank you, Kat.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Gator's in the NCAA Basketball Tournament and number one seed.
- 10:06Speaker 1: The four number ones advanced did I call that or
- 10:09Speaker 1: what did I call it? The top seeds we're going
- 10:13Speaker 1: to go. I thought ones and twos were going to
- 10:16Speaker 1: be in the finals. Here we go. It's guaranteed one
- 10:19Speaker 1: in one. Oh well, great visit with Kat Cammick. And
- 10:24Speaker 1: you heard call your members of Congress, House, and Senate
- 10:28Speaker 1: and demand background checks for staff members in Congress twenty
- 10:32Speaker 1: seven past the hour
